Welcome, everyone, to episode 147 of the Mastinomics podcast,
the world's strongest podcast.
Your favorite two Mastinomics hosts are here again today,
Tanner and Tommy.
Tommy.
What's up?
How's it going?
It is going great.
What do you think we did exactly to earn the title
of the world's strongest podcast?
Well, I actually did.
It is written down if you look
on the internet after 140 episodes you can call yourself that we were a little pre-empted we were
a little early on it but uh we knew we'd get to at least 140 so um that's how we got it yeah i mean
it's an honor it is an honor and it with it comes a lot of responsibility that's true we are equipped
to handle that it's not that the people on the podcast are the strongest people in the world.
The podcast itself is the world's strongest.
It is.
And, I mean, what's stronger than something that doesn't die?
Yeah.
There isn't.
And what's colder than cold?
These are questions I don't know the answer to.
Ice cold.
You do got a point there.
All right, all right, all right.
Yeah.
We talked about Amanda Lawrence last time
that we need to get her on the podcast sometime
or that we're considering getting her on the podcast.
We need to vet her and make sure.
Oh, it's going to be a very, I mean, one,
we don't let guests on here often.
Right.
You know, we're performing at such a high level.
We don't want anyone to come and just bring this down and on top of that i mean when was the last time we had a
woman on this podcast that's true i don't even know we would know what to do that's for a couple
of sexist men like that's really questionable if we're gonna allow we have wives just like anyone
else but but they just do what we tell them to do. Right.
Just kidding.
Just in case my wife is listening.
But, yeah, we do, before we just let her on the podcast,
we have to make sure she's strong enough first.
I'm not 100% sold on that yet.
Yeah.
I have seen a lot of accusations of fake plates.
That's true.
We do need to do some more due diligence just to make sure that, yeah,
she is, in fact, as strong as she says she is. Yeah.
Who actually has these fake plates?
Well, we kind of almost do have one set in the gym.
Yes, we do.
We have a set of wooden.
But you would spot that.
Well, you would probably.
If they're painted red, though, you might not spot that.
But even then, you're going to notice.
Yeah, you're going to notice.
But, yeah, it is.
If you do want to just fake it it you can just get wooden plates and put
them on and paint them black and to the unsuspecting person especially if you start mixing in a bunch
of those random plates like we have yeah they might buy it yeah i actually i think didn't they
get larry with that a while ago wasn't shane or someone did they load up the bar i think they
were telling me they loaded up the bar and they had the fake the black ones and something else on
and they told larry they just got a pr he's like what no way man just wood the old wood plays they
weigh about a pound a piece probably yeah about that um but yeah so so we did get some responses
back that in fact people would like us to uh podcast with amanda lawrence so having heard that
we're still talking about maybe podcasting with amanda lawrence so having heard that we're still talking about maybe
podcasting with amanda lawrence someday so stay tuned for that there is a chance there's a chance
but with our weather though we could be locked in here for another six months that's true and
honestly until she gets either the 600 pound squat or the 600 pound deadlift i'm not that
interested like what's the freaking right right i agree we did have her in a mass dynamics rookie card here pretty recently and
she has over a 1300 pound total already yeah and it's probably going to grow a lot i mean it just
already has gone up what 150 pounds or more in the last year like yeah yeah on the up and up
never a bad thing to never a bad thing when you're in the sport of powerlifting.
No.
No, it's pretty, pretty legit.
Something else I thought about that you, you talked about it a while.
You brought up that you had watched the world's strongest man that when it was on TV.
Oh yeah.
And it was the American broadcast version of that.
Right.
I watched, I've seen part of the american broadcast version
but i came across uh within a couple days ago i came across the uh england england oh they actually
had a completely different broadcast oh yeah they always do they have different uh i just assumed
because they were so slow that it was just they were doing everything they could to get one yeah
because it wasn't british announcers when you i didn't think so no i'm pretty sure the ones i had were american was eddie hall on it or i can't even remember now yeah but i think it's a
completely separate broadcast like i mean is it edited different too or is it just a commentary
well i think so and that's what i was gonna ask it i didn't i don't know if you'll remember this
or not but when i watched the uh british version of it they made a big deal on the car deadlift when Thor had gone earlier and he got 12 reps.
Brian Shaw was last to go, and he got his 12th rep at the very end,
and it was like a questionable – Thor felt like it was a questionable call of whether he really got it.
And they kind of made a big deal on the show about Thor.
Like they had to like call all the judges over and thor was like
sitting in the tent and they kind of made it look like he was uh pouting about uh see i don't
remember any of that okay yeah and i don't this has been like six months ago so i don't remember
a lot of it but i do not remember that part of it yeah but they made a big deal i thought it
was interesting to play to the national taste. Yeah.
And then they would show a clip of Shaw being kind of pissed about Thor bringing it up.
It's like, I don't know what the ruling is, but he threw the challenge flag,
and all the judges had to get together and determine if it was really a good rep or not.
Wow.
Yeah, I see.
I don't remember. Yeah, okay.
But I was curious if it was just the British broadcast of that.
They were almost like throwing Thor into the bus in a way,
and I wondered if there's a big Eddie Hall Thor thing,
and I just wondered if that was playing out in that in any way.
It could be.
It could be. It could be.
Speaking of red challenge flags, did you watch any football,
any playoff football, Tanner?
I didn't watch any of it, but I heard about the controversy with the Saints.
Yeah.
And you're not a fan of either one of these teams, really,
so you probably didn't care.
No, I didn't care.
I didn't care either.
I guess I wanted the Saints to win, but that's about the extent of how much I care.
I'm like permanently just like not for the Saints after the whole Bounty Gate thing, you know, with the Vikings.
That's just like, what?
But what about the Minnesota Miracle?
Was that a good choice?
I mean, that was kind of, but this is even better now that they just keep getting screwed over.
It's just like, oh, it came around.
Yeah.
So that was the outcome you wanted?
I was fine with it.
I honestly didn't care.
And Tom Brady is going to his ninth Super Bowl.
Tom Brady's gone to more Super Bowls than me.
I feel like maybe we've talked about this for multiple years in a row,
and I'm like, yeah, I'm kind of over that thing.
We did a whole episode, actually, kind of ripping on Tom Brady's TB12.
If you're not familiar with that, maybe one Google it or even go back to our podcast.
I think it was the TB12 method.
Yeah, that's what it's called.
Probably over a year ago now.
Yeah, I'd say it's around episode 100, give or take a little bit.
Yeah, where we go very in-depth.
On the TB12.
We actually break down.
We legitimately break it down.
I mean, we make fun of it a lot because a lot of it warrants being made fun of but we break down the method in pretty good detail some of the highlights were uh drink a lot
of water uh keep your muscles pliable i think that was one of them remember that yeah there's a couple
other is there something about like salt or ph balance there was something weird with that or
maybe some electrolyte thing it all kind of tied back into products that they were selling anyways.
So he's now will have appeared in more Super Bowls than any other franchise ever has.
Another statistic I saw, he's been in 17% of the Super Bowls ever.
That seems like...
What's going on there?
How is that a thing?
One thing I saw people...
I saw a lot of people that basically have said,
yeah, I've always hated Tom Brady,
but now I'll admit he's probably the best quarterback ever.
I see that coming up.
I don't really have an opinion either way.
I don't know how you could have an argument that,
at least to say he's not one of the best.
I totally get it if you don't like him, because him because yeah that's super annoying to see the same teams
and the same people always there um yeah he's really really good at what he does and i think
the coaching staff is really good at what they yeah did he did he win it essentially or um not
and that was the thing is like kansas city like it without getting too into the game it just went
not a ton
was happening until the fourth quarter.
And then it went back and forth.
Like, especially it was my home's game kind of had this game winning drive with four minutes
left.
Tom Brady goes down, wins it with 34 seconds left and chiefs come back and get close enough
to kick a field, go to tie it with, to tie it. They had 40 seconds to do that.
And so it's like, okay.
And then because it's the NFL, it comes down to coin toss, you know,
and first team, well, Tom Brady having the ball, he's probably going to score.
So that's what happened.
They won a coin toss, and that was it.
Thing against his legacy that I keep seeing pop up now, too,
is that people say, they the uh they cheated at
what you know yeah the flight gate I guess well then they had the thing with the video
yeah or whatever and people are like well he's a cheater so none of this counts what how do you
feel about that like to me I don't I don't follow any of it close enough to really even care yeah
to me I would I would have a hard time discounting him because of that. I just feel like that's stuff that probably goes on.
Yeah, everyone's probably doing it to some extent, I guess.
I don't know.
But I really don't know.
I don't either.
I don't have a strong enough opinion.
Don't put that in the over-under, Tanner, because I won't have it.
But what about should we do predictions of the Super Bowl?
We should, though.
Yes, yes.
Probably Patriots.
I'm thinking Patriots.
Where's the Super Bowl at?
I don't even know.
Oh, it's in Atlanta.
It's in Atlanta.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah.
Is it where the Falcons play, though?
Yeah.
Georgia Dome?
Do they have a new place or something?
Yeah, it's their new.
Okay.
Do they have a new field?
We probably sound like major sports fans here.
Yeah, Georgia Dome.
Okay.
We'll go with that.
Yeah.
We don't know.
No.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Oh, okay.
Yeah.
That's because it's good to say that Georgia Dome is kind of old.
I was going to say, I can't keep track of all these new stadiums.
Yeah.
It's brand new.
I can't keep track of all the names and everything.
So, it's in Atlanta.
That doesn't make any difference probably for those teams.
But you think the Patriots?
Probably, yeah.
Lopsided victory?
I don't think it's going to be.
Yeah.
I mean, they're both – you got to assume it's going to be like, what, 28 to 30-something.
It's got to be right in there.
Yeah, I'm going to go with the Patriots too.
I just do not care enough at this point.
I don't know well enough anyways.
Like literally didn't watch either of those teams play like at all.
So I have almost no input here.
The L.A. Rams, do they have a big la following i think they
do okay they do uh they do really uh the one or two times i've seen them play they do really kick
it with the la music while they're uh well while they're playing at home oh you know like they
have like the snoop doggone all the time like they got their whole like the la vibe like they really
got their la thing going on.
That's good.
I guess you got to embrace that.
Yeah.
Huh.
So that's the NFL in a nutshell.
Mega NFL fans here, us, chatting away.
Maybe something we're more passionate about.
The other day I was in the store buying LaCroix's.
Yeah, hockey.
The other day I was in the store buying LaCroix Yeah, hockey. The other day I was in the store buying La Croix.
And I was getting – I've been on the –
The La Croix.
I've been on the Pamplemousse lately.
Or what are you –
Pamplemousse is great.
Grapefruitier commoners out there.
I love the Pamplemousse.
And I've really been a fan of that lately.
Yeah.
But I was like, you know what?
I got to go back to my old trusty lime.
It's been a while.
So I get lime.
I'm going to the checkout counter.
And the cashier goes, oh, lime. Have you ever had while. So I get lime. I'm going to the checkout counter and the cashier
goes, Oh, lime. Have you ever had key lime? They're amazing. And I said, funny thing is we
have a podcast where we've talked about the key line. The funny thing is I literally, that's the
only flavor I've ever gotten where I'm like, I don't want the rest of these. And I gave them away.
She's like, what? I was like, yeah, I don't think they're good. So did you ever have a key lime?
I never.
My wife was drinking one the other day, and I tried hers, and I thought, yeah, that's good, I guess.
And I asked her if she liked the key lime, and she's like, well, I mean, they all taste the same.
And I'm like, yeah, they taste.
I mean, yeah, to an extent.
Like, they all taste 90% the same.
You develop a finer, more discerning palate, though,
you really get those subtle notes.
You can tell how long it's been aging in the aluminum can for.
If it was bottled in, if it was canned in, you know, Wisconsin,
the home country of LaCroix.
Is that where it is?
I believe they're based out of Wisconsin.
Or some lesser bottling plant somewhere else in the country.
Massonomics.
We as Massonomics just started following LaCroix on Instagram this last week.
Did they extend a sponsorship deal to us?
I mean, that's the next logical step.
I suppose we're going to have to put out some sort of LaCroix post and ask for our followers to start tagging LaCroix
that they need to sponsor us because they should be sponsoring us. They should be. I mean, do you
think how many podcasts out there do you think have brought them up? They talk about LaCroix more.
You'd be hard pressed to find one. And if it was, if there is one, it's not as entertaining as this.
That's true. Probably still my you know the funniest thing
about LaCroix that always makes me laugh still when I think about it is the I think probably
the first one I brought first time I brought one to uh uh Tyler's house when we were recording
there the podcast still he said uh made the comment that say it was an apple flavored LaCroix
like the means that they flavor it by is setting it in a room next to apples.
Transporting the same truck as an orange.
But did you know that the blue can, the flavor is pure, which is unflavored?
So you can get straight up carbon, which that is a thing, though.
Yeah, that's like a...
That's not very good, though. It'd be weird., which that is a thing, though. Yeah, that's like a... Like, there's a Perrier and all that stuff.
That's not very good, though.
It'd be weird.
Whoa, there is a cola.
I'm on their Wikipedia page.
There is a cola flavor.
I imagine that has to be awful.
So is it dark, do you think?
I don't know.
No, there's no way it can be.
Yeah.
Let's see if there's any other things on the exotic lineup here so did you say where is
what you were saying is that you like pamplemousse better than lime then i think i do now yeah that's
my favorite one it is really good but like you said as the commoners call it grapefruit yeah
if you're more if you're deeper into lacroix's you know that it's the pomplemousse
yeah the subtle pomplemousse if you're a real og you know's, you know that it's the pomplemousse. The subtle pomplemousse. If you're a real OG, you know.
But I don't know what that means.
Is that just another word for grapefruit?
I want to find out.
Let's get to the bottom of this here.
Pomplemousse.
It's French.
French for grapefruit.
Now that.
So I imagine we're totally saying that word wrong then.
Oh, here, here, here.
We'll actually get the official.
You might not be able to hear.
Ballrooms.
Ballrooms.
We're in the ballpark.
Ballrooms.
Yeah.
Grapefruit.
Okay.
The fact that the Google Translate, the fact that the French one sounds like it actually has an accent,
the American version literally sounds like a robot saying it.
Grapefruit.
It's like the old Microsoft Word, like in 1996, where there's like the, do you remember the little paper clip guy that comes up?
Yeah, Clippy.
Yeah, Clippy, and then wasn't there different forms of,
like couldn't you change the clip guy to something else too?
Yeah, I think so.
Let's see, I want to, do you get some translating going on here?
Okay, I don't know if you guys can even hear this, but what's it sound like?
Grapefruit is my favorite flavor of La Croix.
That actually doesn't sound too bad for a robot voice.
I'll give props to Google on that one.
Yes.
So you do think of the old...
Le pamplemousse est ma saveur préférée de La Croix.
So now, if you're in France...
Here, we'll get that one more time in case you guys couldn't hear it.
Le pamplemousse est ma saveur préférée de La Croix.
La Croix.
And that is how you order La Croix in France.
Do you think they have La Croix's in France?
They probably have something way fancier.
Yeah, you're probably right.
Like Perrier or something.
I think we need that La Croix sponsorship, though.
I mean, it's up there with the Herbstrong sponsorship that we need.
It is.
And I mean,
the posts are still coming out for Herbstrong and we still have not got our
affiliate code yet.
So I'm feeling a little slighted by the social media industry right now.
I like when some people often say that we need to do a LaCroix shirt.
Like the people are very opinionated on the LaCroix.
Some people are like, Oh, I would love a LaCroix shirt. People are very opinionated on the LaCroix. Some people are like,
I would love a LaCroix shirt.
People that are
also our fans will be like,
don't do that shit.
Because they know they'd have to buy it.
They wouldn't want to, but they would have to buy it.
Someday maybe there will be a LaCroix shirt.
Maybe they'll approach us about a collaboration.
It's almost like a parody of our own parodies.
It kind of is at this point.
It kind of is.
It would have to be the Pampelmousse though, I think.
Pampelmousse.
Before we started recording today,
pretty much every day before we start recording,
we have to discuss our uh strategic
steps that we're taking here to get ready for our trip to the arnold this year and i thought it
might be interesting if we filled everyone in a little bit on uh what a behind the scenes what
about what it actually takes to get a booth when we peel back the curtain and you find out what
type of magic tricks are going on back here to make it all happen you peel back the curtain and you find out what type of magic tricks are going on back here to make it all happen. You peel back the curtain at Oz and realize that it's just a couple of idiots standing next to you.
It's like, oh, yeah, it really is true.
It's just what I expected.
There is a lot that goes into it, though.
I think the farther we get along, the more we realize that there's a lot of little things in order to hopefully not like fall flat on our face.
I mean, you could go really half-ass it and have a really half-ass product.
Yeah, we can't even say if these are the steps to be successful because we have no idea if that's right.
But I would say just the steps to show up.
It's not one of those things you just sign up for and just be like, I'll just wing it and hope for the best.
There actually is a lot of planning that goes into this stuff.
And especially like us, we've never done a big...
I mean, we've never done a show.
We've never done a big trade show like that before.
Yeah, we've never been an exhibitor before.
Right, right.
Let alone one that we have to drive 18 hours to, 16 hours to.
Yeah, yes.
So why not drive halfway across the country to get your first one in?
Right.
And we like to start with the biggest one that exists.
Well, yeah, if you're going to do anything, you might as well go big, right?
That is true.
But there is a lot of little things, even from just like our display.
You'd be surprised at what goes into having a good-looking display
or what we hope to be a good-looking display.
Yeah.
Just things when you're
getting there of where you even the if you haven't been to the arnold before the place is like our
biggest question still is we've been there we've been there twice now yeah and both times like i
don't even know where you park going into there like because every time we stay close enough that
we can walk to it yeah and last year the't recall seeing a parking lot ever that we've.
No.
And last year the one time we drove to it, like we got dropped off and we were getting out of the car.
We were literally getting yelled at by the cops for getting out.
So we did that wrong.
You know?
So we're going to.
That is still something that we do need to figure out.
Because otherwise we're going to get there and we're going to circle these blocks and be like.
Otherwise, we're going to get there, and we're going to circle these blocks and be like, oh.
And you do have to assume that the traffic in that area is going to be less the day we arrive than the day of when we show up.
Because we would always show up late on Friday when stuff is really starting to kick off.
Right.
So we should have that going in our favor.
And even Saturday is really bad compared to Friday.
So if we're there by thursday it should be hopefully
we're just battling with mostly the other exhibitors at that point and not the but i mean
the biggest one that we even talked about though is just the travel alone like you know with the
with the amount of like we have a 10 by 10 booth which is not big by any means but a 10 by 10 booth
you know we're talking hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of apparel items. Yeah. We'll probably have like 1,500 items plus that we have to fit in that space somehow.
Will we sell all of them, half of them, a quarter?
We have no idea.
Yeah.
We just got to hope.
I mean, hope we're making educated guesses here.
And if we don't, I mean, we have inventory, sure.
Right.
Just getting it there.
Okay.
We have a truck.
You cannot fit all of that in a truck.
Maybe it was just the apparel, but with the fact that we have to truck you cannot fit all of that in a truck a lot if it maybe was just the
apparel but with the fact that we have to bring stuff for the booth you know like shelving and
displays and just kind of everything that goes with that um now all of a sudden a truck doesn't
fit all that so now we have a trailer involved and it's not fun to drive i guess i've never drove a
trailer that far so i can't maybe it gets fun after i've like i drove you know i have a you haven't driven it quite far enough i have a good size
boat and i've taken that for a couple hours down the road and you know i've done things like that
and it's never been fun but i've never tried it for like you know over eight hours you reach the
tipping point where it gets fun yeah i think that's the problem is i've never right now i'm
really glad we got that trailer i think yeah and so i'm holding out that that's gonna be what
happens is like a an hour 10.
It's going to be like, this just got really fun, guys.
Maybe we can go live on Instagram and let people know, you know, keep them in the loop of what's happening.
So there's that.
And then also that where we live, it could also be a time of the year where the weather is super shitty.
It could actually be super shitty the entire way there.
Oh, yeah, it could be.
And the entire way back, too.
We could get screwed.
I'm very hopeful that it is not.
Yeah, so all of a sudden, like, a 16-hour drive could easily turn into a 30-plus-hour drive.
I really hope that doesn't happen.
You just got to hope we get far enough south and we get away from it.
Yeah, right.
That's not unusual to hear people tell stories around here about a three-hour drive turned into eight hours.
Right. So that's not unusual to hear people tell stories around here about a three hour drive turned into eight hours.
Right.
So that's always a thing too.
Um, and then, uh, you know, long distance traveling, there's the whole thing of like tires and stuff can happen to tires.
So we'll just hope none of that happens to us and that we just get there just fine.
And now all we got to worry about is driving around the city that we have no idea what
we're doing.
Try to get to some parking with a trailer.
Yeah.
Try to get some parking ramp that we don't know exists with a trailer that's doing God knows what.
So that's all we've got to do.
Yeah, and hopefully we get checked into our Airbnb.
Yeah, and hopefully nothing.
Because we've had issues with that before where the Airbnb cancels
like a week or two before, and then you're like scrambling.
So, I mean, there's only like 100 things that have to fall into place perfectly
for this to not be a disaster.
Yes.
We do have our inventory now, though.
We do have our inventory.
But we do have inventory.
That's a big checkmark, I would say, like having our inventory for the Arnold.
There's a lot of numbers that have to go into that.
To the point where Excel sheets and Excel sheets and Excel sheets all have to be managed.
They do.
I mean, I suppose you could take most of that from a different approach of just literally like,
eh, that's not really how we roll, though.
As dumb as we are, we do kind of keep an eye on those things.
We have our formulas.
It's a very advanced formula that we run through for everything and uh it gives us
better educated guesses but um yeah and then there's also the whole thing of like just setting
up a booth we've never set up a booth before right you know we've had we've set up you know
what we do like our strong man we kind of have our crude booth that we put together and right
there we have when i say crude i mean like we can make it as big or as small as we want like
we don't have any constraints it's our show so now we have like an actual 10 by 10 square that we need we got to keep to yeah and we are just gonna have to do like we
were talking we will just have to set up in a garage or somewhere tape off 10 by 10 feet and
just see like how the hell does this work like what is possible like kind of go through the system
because um that's really not the spot where you want to like have everything go perfect and then fall apart there.
Right.
That's getting so close and then just like not coming through when you need to.
Right.
It has some things that have been helpful.
One, Nick, the owner of Live Large.
Yeah.
Live Large Apparel has been there many years, is there every year.
And he's been feeding us some insider tips.
He's been giving us a lot of helpful advice.
And those are things that we as non-exhibitors would have never thought of.
No.
Another person that's been helpful that I've talked to is the owner of Lift Evil.
This is their first year at the Arnold, but they've done several other shows and meets before.
their uh shows and meets before so just even you know just like uh he's rattled off a list of things that he's like bring make sure bring fishing wire uh an extension cord this that
like these five things that like just have these things tape uh whatever so when you get there
a first starter for fires just like your basic survival survival kit.
But he did a helpful list of things like just have all those things because
you're going to get there and get setting up and be like,
Oh shit,
where,
how do I do this?
It makes sense to me.
Like,
yeah.
All right.
It makes sense when someone says it before then you're like,
Oh,
I would never thought of that.
But yeah,
that is one of those things.
Oh,
it is just nice to like be surrounded and have contacts with good people yes because uh they can kind of throw that stuff your way
yeah it is uh it is nice that like these companies that we have contacts with i in a way there are
competitors because they're selling shirts to the same group of people that we're selling shirts to
but i haven't come across really a company yet that's uh in our space or of even a comparable size at all at all that isn't helpful if you
yeah i haven't because because i most people at this point get it that like it's good to just
have people around because yeah everyone kind of feeds off everyone and it helps everyone else out
and you give people tips and people will throw followers your way people will throw posts
your way like there's a lot of give and give and give to it all so definitely not uh zero sum game
or you know it's like if if they're doing good we're doing good too and it is fun that we'll be
right in location that is what i'm really excited to actually like uh meet some of these people
because like even since last year there's some people that we've kind of popped up on a radar that we've um i'd be very excited to talk to you know yeah definitely uh
we will be going uh we'll probably be wearing a number of badges because we'll be going as uh
exhibitors and media this year so i mean we'll basically the arnold is our oyster i mean
there's no door anyone has more credentials than us
besides Arnold Schwarzenegger.
And even then,
he'd be like,
damn,
how'd you get that one?
Two badges?
I don't even have two badges.
I have a security team,
but I don't have badges.
So,
yeah,
I mean,
we got,
we got some,
we got the stuff going on here.
Yeah,
there's some places we can get to
that just your average person couldn't.
For sure.
Yeah.
Otherwise, planning wise, we, it's still not a done deal.
It's a work in progress.
It'll probably be a work in progress right up until the day we leave, I would imagine.
We'll be getting stuff ready.
Yep, it definitely will be.
It'll be a relief to get there and to get the booth set up.
On the Thursday when we get there and the booth is set set up on the thursday when we get there that is the setup
i'll be like ah actually i'm not even i don't even think i'm gonna go ah until i consistently
see people buying things and i know the transactions yeah yeah right because that was a whole other
thing it's like oh you have to have a point of sale thing which we've never done before i mean
i believe that reliably working then i might go okay now i think we can just worry about
selling yeah yeah that first transaction to go through uh what are we going to be selling there
like that that's probably interesting so this is the big announcement um i don't even know if i
should tell these people i don't know if they're ready for it so So we've started our own CBD product, and it's pretty powerful.
If you're into recovery and minimizing inflammation after big lifts,
this is the product that's going to be for you.
You know, we were kind of dogging on some other people,
but we were just jealous the whole time.
I think we're going to give away CBD oil and a LaCroix with every order this year.
I like that.
We will have a new old shirt that's returning that we have not carried for a while that we are bringing back special for the Arnold, the Huge Life shirt.
So it has not been seen for a little while.
Most sizes have been out of stock for probably a year almost.
Yeah, I would say close to a year. So we bringing it back specifically so it's peaking its little head
back just for this we've actually talked about just as of as recently as right before we started
recording maybe bringing in one other there could be more surprises yeah there could be no surprises
that could be the surprise that there are no more surprises surprise could be you get there and be
like oh oh that's it huh but there could be more that could be we don that there are no more surprises. The surprise could be you get there and be like, oh. That's it, huh?
But there could be more.
There could be.
We don't even know.
We're going to surprise ourselves with that one.
So to be continued, stay in tune with us to see what happens next on our journey.
But, yeah, I do think we're going to live stream on Instagram the full 16, 17 16 hours yeah i mean i i've planned on having
hundreds of gigs over my data limit that month so or just really you know finding out what unlimited
is made of yeah if it just where is the if it just throttles me to absolutely nothing and then we
can't process any orders through so i'm thinking about getting a new phone before we go i would
say that wouldn't be a bad investment i'm also thinking about getting a new phone before we go. I would say that wouldn't be a bad investment. I'm also thinking about getting new tires on my pickup before we go.
I'm just trying to minimize the things that could really.
I mean, tires, yeah, they're cool.
They might get us there.
But can your truck, can new tires take you on Instagram, though?
That's true.
So I think we've kind of solved that one already.
I guess I'm getting out.
I might get both.
I thought you were
like gonna get it like i'm looking for a tire sponsor i mean it is it is kind of like you could
trade off in price one for the other you know it's one of the other but um i just don't know if the
in either case i don't know if the old girls are gonna hold up uh through the whole through the
full trip because i know what the arnold does to a phone oh yeah it makes it takes
it through hell yeah it makes it almost unusable yeah uh and with this old that old girl this old
girl i don't know if she'll come out of the other side look at yeah smelling like roses or not like
it last year it was all i could do to get the video of Thor deadlifting that new Elephant Bar World record.
It was everything that it had to get it uploaded to Instagram.
So I don't know.
I don't know if the latest iPhone 6 is going to cut it for another year.
I mean, it is the latest iPhone 6, granted.
You might have to go to the latest iPhone 6S.
Oh, 6S Plus. 6S Plus.
Even better. Someone
responded on... Last episode,
we discussed the Texas Instruments
graphing calculators. Someone
said, I don't know if this was a high school student
or a college student or whatever, they said
we still use those. Okay, so
there you have it. So they are still a thing.
At least somewhere, somebody is still
using those. Texas Instruments still has their dirty little fingers on the education industry.
I don't know how.
You know, some things are slow to change.
Yeah, I guess.
That's really slow to change, though.
Yes.
Wow.
All right.
There's news about Larry Wheels.
Our favorite kind of news.
Yeah.
It's been a while.
News about Larry Wheels.
We haven't been talking. I'd say we haven't been talking enough about larry i mean he hasn't been pring every single
week now so he's doing all this wacky strongman stuff i don't know what he's trying to do there
but so he's competing at uh the strongman competition at the la fit expo it's put on by
odd haugen um it is
um an amateur show so it's not there aren't necessarily professionals there
which he has to do an amateur show though right the winner of that qualifies for the arnold
amateur show in columbus when it'll there. So I would imagine his plan is to
hopefully win
at the LA Fit Expo
and then he can compete at the Arnold Amateur.
That'd be pretty cool.
And I'm really hoping that that's his plan. I assume it is.
And if he wins that, then he could
go on. He could compete at the Arnold
actually, right? Yes, I believe the
winner of the Arnold Amateur
gets a place at the big table with the big dogs.
Larry, 2020, Larry Wheels for the Arnold Classic.
Start that campaign up.
I think from the little bit of research I did on it, I'm assuming as a heavyweight in this LA Fit Expo,
he has a chance of winning that based on the events and the weights.
Because it's just full of slouches.
Well, no, I think there's good jokes.
No, no, I do think.
I'm not saying he is going to win it.
But he will destroy everyone.
Yeah, I'm not just saying he's going to win.
I don't know if you've seen what Larry Wilson does on the internet.
I'm saying he is going to run amok, spit dirt.
It will be a man amongst little children. He is going to run amok, spit dirt, kick dirt, spit in their faces,
and laugh at them as he runs over the top of them carrying a yoke.
Because there's nothing that Larry can't do.
He will do it all.
But I do think he has a chance of winning that.
But if he does make it to the Arnold Amateur, I would say, I don't know.
Not an expert.
Someone that's really deep into Strongwind would know better than me.
But I think that Arnold Amateur show is like the best.
I think it's the real deal.
Yeah, and I mean, there's people that.
I shouldn't say I think it's.
I mean, it is the real deal.
Like, you're not winning that or even being in the top three on a fluke deal.
No, and there's probably going to be some of the events there that he'll do really well at, I bet.
But I bet there's going to be some events there that these guys
that have the technique and the speed down on some of these,
that would crush him, I think.
Maybe it, you know, I think the Larry Wheels fan club
would want to think that he would just like,
oh, it's Larry Wheels, he can deadlift 900 pounds.
He'll kill those guys.
But also, most of the guys in that can deadlift around 900 pounds.
Right, exactly.
And I think some of the events they're so proficient in,
that there's probably some of, say, it is an 800-pound yoke
or something like that.
People think, you know, Larry is, like, really ripped and cut
and just assume that he's going to be athletically a freak but i don't know that you can assume that no you can't assume at i don't
know that i don't i'm get i don't know right now that his agility really is on par with uh what
some of those people can do just from what i've seen and and like maybe just if you had a 40 meter
dash or 40 dash i wouldn't be surprised if larry people, but add an 800-pound yoke in or more, and I don't know if that –
Because the top amateurs in those weight classes are ridiculous.
They are.
You know, like I just –
Like how did you get so good at this when someone's not paying you full-time to do it?
Because there's people that you would consider to be extremely strong that struggle to qualify for for that or you know that that do qualify and then you'd be like wow that
was like the strongest guy i knew and then he goes to the amongst the best amateurs totally
average at best yes right right so i just don't i i do hope that he wins the la fit expo and i
hope that he competes at the arnold amateur and i don't think he's going to be a laughingstock,
but I don't think it's going to be what maybe some of the fan club hopes to see
or just assumes we'll see.
The thing that probably my favorite – I mean, Larry is insanely strong,
and that is awesome.
But probably my favorite thing about him and what makes him, like, to me, one of the best people in strength sports is the fact that he'll just do anything.
There's a ton of strongmen.
We were kind of all shocked when Thor decided to do a powerlifting meet because strongmen just don't do that stuff.
Dimitar did one last year, but besides that, there's almost no – and I don't blame them, but there's almost just no crossover.
It never happens.
Power lifters, do any power lifters ever do anything strongman,
like competitive-wise?
I can't think of any top, you know, I mean, at the very amateur level,
of course, people switch back and forth all the time, but like the actual.
But, yeah, so there's none of that going on like ever.
intellectual but yeah so there's none of that going on like ever um you never see anyone of notoriety really doing bodybuilding between those either so the fact that larry will just like be
like screw it yeah i'm gonna do it like that's what makes it so awesome yeah like and i think
it's i think almost like you need more people like that in the sport i agree that are just like
yeah i i get it like i'm i might be a good power lifter, but let's, let's give something else to try here.
That's what's really fun to watch about this whole thing.
That's true.
And I do hope that he, and I guess maybe based on the way I say it,
I actually hope that he does well.
Like I hope that he qualifies for the Arnold and does like,
if he even wanted, that would be awesome.
But I just don't know that it's, it seems like a big stretch.
Right.
Right.
I mean, he is training with, you know, he's's probably training in one of the best training camps in the world
with that, and he has every opportunity to succeed.
Yeah, and I said it before,
but these videos that he's doing with Thor,
these training videos, are really good.
Like, they are really good videos.
Like, he must have a team with him there i suppose and like
um they're it's good content living basically right who they are right for them to not have
like an actual videographer yeah it seems crazy but it's really interesting content with him and
thor you know it's not uh it's not just a gimmick of him being there and uh getting some pictures
with them and doing a couple lifts with him. It's pretty interesting stuff.
Yeah.
So I think the LA Fit Expo is not that far away.
Maybe it's just a few weeks here even.
I was going to say, it's February, isn't it?
Yeah, it's probably only a couple weeks.
Or by the time you're listening to this,
it's probably real soon, within a week maybe.
So to be determined on how la is
no official dates come on oh this weekend oh so we i guess by the time you're hearing this
it just happened okay even better so by the next time we record, we can recap how he did.
Man, we are timely.
Interesting thing about that competition, there's like eight events,
eight strongman events.
Really?
But your score is based on your top six of those eight.
So you can choose not to even do two events if you want to.
They actually do let you just not do them.
Yeah, you can completely not even do them.
Just scratching and not doing them. And one of the events is moss wrestling which is when you're you put your feet
up on that board against each other there's the dowel what do they call that like mas is i think
it's moss wrestling i never knew what that was called yeah that's one of them i would almost
think that he won't do that one and there was uh maybe one other really weird one that i thought maybe he would sit out of but
that's kind of an interesting format where that is not that is kind of cool well it's like a lot
of events i mean there's a lot of events where like that go by a score where there's a throw
you know your worst score right yeah that is a that's an interesting format yeah shake it up a little bit yeah i like it
and i think there's a max deadlift a max axle deadlift with no straps and you have to do double
overhand so it's really a grip event yeah curious to see how he does on that yeah that that's one
that definitely favors people with big hands yeah it's basically just a grip event and not a deadlift
event like a 900 pound deadliftpound deadlift doesn't mean anything.
Yeah, if you can't hang on to 500 pounds in an axle with your hands.
But I think he'll do well on that event.
You would just assume.
Yeah, yeah.
I think his hands could clamp down on about anything.
If you know what I mean.
I wish.
Do we want to discuss some big lifts?
Yeah, we better talk about a couple big lifts in this week's segment.
What do we got inside, hiding in this big lift segment?
Well, first of all, Chris Wiest, Mr. Unleash the Wiest.
Ah, yes.
Deadlifted 903, which that puts him at his second ever over 900.
I think his second 900.
Second 900.
Official 900.
900 or more.
Yeah, deadlifting competition.
He's done 915 before.
Fun fact there, 903 was a second attempt.
Yes.
Not a third.
No.
I think he tried 930 or 933 or something on his third.
I didn't see a video of that.
I don't know how it played out, but I assume it moved away. It was based on the way 903 looked that i don't know how it played out but i assume it moved away is
based on the way 903 looked i don't know yeah and that's uh how many people out there get multiple
900 pound attempts in a single meet like that's that's really yeah that's really elite territory
yuri and kaylor like there might be only one or two more people that even do something like that
this year yeah like it just kind of depends on if those guys are going to do a meet you know
and he did uh bench 475 so his bench was a big improvement i think he's probably knocking on
the door getting closer and closer to 500 yep and then his squat was 766 which also he's that's a
pretty big right yeah pretty a very big pr so he's getting to the point where if his squat is close to that 800
and his bench is close to that 500 and his pull is 9,
he's starting to get where he's like a 2200 total.
So where his total, not just as a deadlift only guy,
his total is getting pretty legit in that 308 class.
Really big numbers.
Yeah, big time.
And he did it in a massonomomic singlet most important part did it did it lift some of the weight i don't know
probably most likely uh iron baby is that his is that his actual instagram handle is that the name
yeah that's his name on instagram he had the 507 strict press overhead strict press yeah and uh that's insane that is that is a lot of pounds
like not many people bench 500 let alone strict press it yeah he is one of the strongest overhead
pressers in the world so I would hope so. Yeah.
I mean, and maybe, like, he's in the ballpark of the strongest, I think,
in the world, you know, but that's crazy.
507 pounds.
Yeah.
The old Iron Bibby, and he does it, like, outside.
Yeah, that was.
That's where he trains.
Yeah, the whole training environment. It just literally looks like they're.
And it was, like, kind of, like, nighttime out, too. Yeah. literally looks like they're – and it was kind of like nighttime out too.
Yeah.
That's what his videos always look like though.
It's like they're just on someone's patio just chilling,
and they're just lifting weights.
It's one of the most unusual gym setups I've ever seen for sure.
Just the way God intended it.
Yeah.
All natural.
Jerry Pritchard, 950 on the old deadlift so that was at the arnold yeah we didn't talk
about this event a little bit yeah um did you see anything from it or what was the official name of
this thing again the arnold america i think or arnold usa or something like that because the
one in columbus is the world arnold world or whatever martinez lisas won the competition i know that um jerry pritchett
won the deadlift at 9 50 matthias was competing so he didn't martinez beat him i don't know where
he finished but what i thought was interesting is they were all uh brian and thor were both there
too just like hanging out hanging out or whatever getting attention and they all uh
all the strongman competitors were all at arnold's house the night before really that he had a party
oh it was like they're all smoking yeah okay i didn't know what that was yeah that was a the
party at arnold's house the night before the event that is pretty cool yeah so that would i'm sure
for all those lifters that was a pretty I like that more teaming up of people.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's really cool.
Larry must have been there, too.
He must have went with Thor.
Because he was in the photos.
Yeah.
So you assume, yeah.
Looked pretty small next to Brian and Thor.
It is weird how small he does look all of a sudden when that's going on.
He had a comment, yes, I still feel huge or something like that.
Oh, it's your Larry, yeah.
Yeah. He's always huge. Oh, it's your layer, yeah. Yeah.
You can always feel huge.
So 950 deadlift.
It did look really easy.
That made me pretty hopeful of what he's going to do on the elephant bar here at the home.
Yeah, you always want to see some big numbers there.
Yeah, yeah.
That's got everyone kind of hopeful that something crazy is going to happen.
Because that looked pretty easy.
It did.
Like, if you were like, oh, that was his first attempt,
you'd be like, yeah, okay, attempt yeah yeah right and i think that was
on a normal bar as far as i know probably i mean a deadlift bar just regular plates his well the
plates weren't calibrated so it could have actually been like 850 you know but his stance and his grip
with he his grip is like almost to the end of the bar all of i mean all of them
they're just they're so wide anyways but yeah like you don't realize that those guys like they're
grabbing like almost outside the rings yeah like for a lot of people that's they consider that a
snatch grip or yeah like a snatch grip deadlift and like that is their deadlift. Their frame's just that big. It really looks crazy when he's on a normal bar like that.
It does.
Yeah.
Did we have one more?
And we have one final one.
Big Jim?
Big Jim.
You know, he was asking on Instagram if he was going to make it.
I said, you know, there's some pretty tough competitors this week.
No slouches this week in Big League.
There was no slouches this week. But James Strickland, we are happy to announce,
you did just make the cut for big lifts.
He was on the bubble.
Yes.
Last but not least, though, he had a 660 bench.
It looked really, really easy.
It did look really fast.
Really good.
Yeah, like really easy. It did look really fast. Really good. Yeah, like really easy.
You know why?
Well, so I was going to leave this part out, but if you're going to bring it up,
he did have, I think, some performance-enhancing apparel on.
He did have them.
I'd like to see that apparel tested.
I would, too.
What is that apparel made of?
And that apparel is the Massanomics Yeah Buddy shirt and
the lift shorts. He hit them with the
1-2 combo on that one. Not a lot of
people pull that off.
But not a lot of people bench 650 plus
either, and so to say it's connected,
I don't think you can say it's not connected.
No, I mean, causation, correlation,
we don't know for sure, but we do
know it happened.
So I think we, there's, yeah.
He did mention, you know, because he had to buy the lift shorts,
he does now have to live out of a cardboard box.
But if it means you're benching 660, what's a cardboard box?
I mean, what does a career or anything matter when you bench that much?
That's kind of true.
None of it matters anymore.
It's like
the guy on bigger stronger faster that he said exactly you know but if i can outbench him and i
can out squat him yep because he's living out of the van completely agrees with all this yeah
uh that's at swim hack in case anyone is so good good work big james i mean i am excited to see
where this leads after seeing the way that 660 went.
There's definitely more there.
Yep, I'm super excited for it.
The question is, is there 700 there?
And that's what we all want to see, I think.
Absolutely.
And the other thing that's fun is all the people that are like,
why does he bench so narrow?
Like people that feel like they have bench tips.
That is my favorite part of it.
It's like, he just benched a pause 660 rep.
Why do you –
Let's be honest here.
You probably bench under 300.
There's a good chance you probably bench under like 250.
I think it's all right people asking.
Just like maybe you're like, ooh, maybe should I be doing that?
Like you do that.
Should I be doing that?
Yeah, I love seeing the ones of people like, oh, he something wrong right those are those are the best they're so awesome like that
people are that dumb out yes and like have no problem letting people know that they're that
dumb yes and i'm sure he can like he probably has stories that we can't even fathom how stupid
this stuff is that he's probably seen over the years yeah it'd probably that'd probably be a
fun conversation just to, like,
get all the dumb comments, you know?
Well, I'm sure we'll talk to him at the Arnold.
He'll be lifting in the cage, so we'll catch up with him.
Yeah.
I assume he's playing on a big bench in the cage.
Well, once he winds his grip out, you know,
he could probably just, he's probably 800 or more.
That's true.
We'll give him our, we'll round up our list of technique fixes that we've got for them and see if we can get those implemented yeah we'll email him over to
him and he can take a look at it um do we have a youtube instagram comment we do have a youtube
slash instagram comment it's a lengthy comment but i think we can get through it uh this was on uh the recent massonomics versus post we
had joe sullivan versus james p sullivan from monsters inc and the comment was dumb
that was it we're not saying the guy's right or wrong that's what i was like yeah you you kind
of know what's going on that was my response is oh you get it and yours did get way
more likes than his so yes so so that people that really put it to him in the digital world
but it's just someone to come across one of our massonomics versus posts and comment dumb it's
like yeah that's kind of the point is they are dumb. Yeah. They're not. Yeah. You are stating the obvious.
Yes.
It's like, yes, this is stupid humor.
Obviously, like Joe Sullivan isn't going to battle the monster from Monsters, Inc.
I like to think like right after they wrote that comment, the next post underneath it was some really dumb meme.
And they like just liked that one.
Yeah.
Because it's the same freaking thing, you know.
Right.
Just dumb stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Cause it's the same fricking thing, you know? Right. Just dumb stuff.
Yup.
Um,
we got what?
Probably the most important part of the podcast.
This is a little bit of a shock here.
This next part.
Yeah.
Um,
I kind of thought you were messing with me at first on this Tanner,
but,
uh,
apparently our,
uh,
podcast reviews jump from 95 to one Oh seven this week. Yeah. Or do we want to read these right now? Or do we 95 to 107 this week.
Yeah.
Do we want to read these right now, or do we want to wait on this?
We could do them now.
I got them right here.
Were you getting something else ready for me?
Oh, I was getting something else ready.
But we better save that for last, the teaser.
Okay, yeah, yeah.
We'll do some podcast reviews.
The most podcast reviews we've ever gotten a week was this week.
And we finally broke the 100 mark, which is pretty crazy.
I am actually pretty excited that we broke the 100 mark.
That is a milestone.
Because we've said it before,
leaving reviews on Apple Podcasts is a biatch.
So that we've got over 100 people to do it.
I wonder what's more rare,
a hundred episodes or a hundred five-star reviews?
I bet a hundred five-star reviews? I bet 100 five-star reviews.
I don't know.
Have you ever left a review on a podcast?
I think a couple.
Yeah.
I think probably the only one I ever have is the Mass Anomics podcast.
Yeah, I have done that one.
Some people that have a following, I think that they'll get the 100 reviews fairly easy,
but they won't get to the 100 episodes.
That's a tough one to...
That'd be a good one if the open powerlifting
people can do podcast
statistics for us. I'd love for them
to track that one down. Well, could they just create an entire
database? A service
that distributes podcasts,
collects analytics on it
for free.
And has a team working on it all the time.
Working on it. Then once they do that after a
few years they could get us that statistic i think we should run that idea by them
yeah it's reasonable request it's not that crazy it's in their wheelhouse yeah uh so i don't the
way the podcast reviews work is not all of them even the number say might go up 10 but there's
only five that i'll read here because they do not all become visible and i have never understood exactly why that is so i will read the ones that are available so if
you think yours is not visible let us know and we will gladly read it yes yes shoot it over to us
all right and part of this reason it went up like this is we our our listenership has been growing
it has as of this last month so that means uh everyone listening is doing their job yeah they're telling them telling someone don't stop doing that yeah keep doing that
we like that it has been fun to see it see it grow but i think that's a big reason for the
influx and more reviews here but first review title pretty rad podcast five out of five stars
um it's from and who reads these anyways is his name, his comment was, first time listener would listen again.
Oh.
That's a pretty.
That's a good first time listener.
Yeah, yeah.
He left a review.
All right.
Five out of five stars.
Title of this is Funny Side of Strength.
And this is from Dadalus underscore MN.
Dadalus underscore MN.n he said really enjoy the pod strong dudes talking about powerlifting strongman and something called crossfit but mostly just cracking jokes a great
alternative to some of the more serious strength training content that is out there and he did
call strong dude yeah so he doesn't really know what we're about yet you gotta listen a little bit more
yeah uh you can tell by these reviews that we're getting reviews from people that are not people
yeah that are not people that have listened to us say this stuff for 150 episodes yet that's awesome
i couldn't remember if i read this one before or not but it was on my list and i liked it so i was
gonna read it i couldn't tell with the timing of it, but the title is An Acquired Taste for a Refined Podcast.
I think it trails off there.
This is from QB's 34, 5 out of 5 stars.
Much like a LaCroix, you are going to feel indifferent at first with the podcast.
After a little while, you will learn to love a LaCroix as well as Masonomics.
This money-hungry team of powerlifting capitalists will overcharge you on lift shorts,
but make up for it with something fun to listen to every week.
And not only that,
you will learn how to get strong,
be strong and use your strength.
We have listened to that one before.
Five out of five.
But that is a classic review.
Because what he does there,
he brings up LaCroix.
That's a big,
that's a big check mark on the box.
And then he finishes it.
Well, he brings up the lift shorts.
Yep, the lift shorts, the price of the lift shorts.
So he's definitely in tune with the Instagram presence.
And then he finishes it with Kaz's intro.
Yeah, how to get strong, how to be strong, and how to use your strength.
Which means that he either watches on YouTube or has watched Kaz's video on YouTube.
He's hitting a lot of the high points there.
That's someone that knows their way around the Mastodon universe.
Yes.
Last one, strong but funny, five out of five stars from Laebg,
L-A-E-B-G, among my favorite podcasts, entertaining and good info.
Awesome.
So there we have it.
That's some good stuff.
Yeah.
Thank you to all the reviews this week.
Yeah, making dreams come true over here we're
not gonna quit just we were thinking about this being the last episode but we did get some reviews
so i'll do one more i guess keep going for next week now are you ready for what brings the butts
in the seats i i think i'm ready for this all right right. I've been preparing all week.
Do you know what's coming?
Is this the CBD sponsorship finally?
Finally, it is our CBD sponsorship.
No, what we're going to go through is possibly our most favorite segment.
It's called Underrated or Overrated.
And if you're new to the podcast, which you might be because we have seen our numbers going up yeah we gotta we gotta go over the rules if you're old you've you've been
here for a while you know the rules but just a refresher in your case uh what this is is
lightning round questions some of them are pop culture and some are mixed in with little uh
lifting related topics and one other important thing here uh i asked them to Tommy, and Tommy can either respond with as short or as long of answers as he wants to.
It's lightning round questions, not necessarily lightning round answers.
Just to contradict the rules a little bit.
An important thing to distinguish there.
There is no time limit on the response.
Right.
So now that everyone knows the rules, we'll get to number one here on underrated
or overrated underrated or overrated chipotle i am going to say overrated simply because they
refuse to come to our part of the country so i don't have access to them uh the times i've had
them this is the big thing they aren't i think they have it now but they aren't really into the
queso in the same way qdoba is yeah and the queso is that nice lubricant for the gullet that makes
it all all work together i mean not only does it all work but it just the flavor i mean what's not
good smothered in liquid cheese yeah so uh so we are kind of kidoba people i mean we kind of are sort of by default
yeah but but um i i don't think it's a bad alternative if you were in another city and
there's a kidoba and a chipotle right next to each other city you're yeah but they're literally
right next to each other in the same little strip mall door down and you're like i really want a
burrito which place would you walk in well i probably would go to chipotle just to be like
what's happening here like i, I got to see.
But, I mean, Q-Dope was tried and true.
I know it works for me.
Yep.
So underrated or overrated?
Well, I thought Chipotle was overrated.
Overrated, okay.
All right, underrated or overrated?
We have discussed this topic at length in recent podcasts,
but it really hasn't been an underrated or overrated.
So underrated or overrated, underrated or overrated wilks scores okay oh man my brain's going a lot of directions right now
there's a lot of ways you can take underrated and overrated i am um okay so when you compare it to
like right now because the reason it's kind of like maybe getting talked about a little more right now is because ipf comes out with ipf points well ipf points i would say it looks like a
freaking disaster like that looks like a joke so it's like well wilkes is way wilkes is way under
rate in that equation like you should just kept it like it's dumb that you got rid of it yeah
um and at least it was kind of like one thing that powerlifting didn't agree on a lot of things.
And it kind of sort of agreed on that to an extent.
And even that people like to cry about.
But it is also annoying, though, like the system was made.
I don't know.
We had an article about it.
How long has it been around?
15 years, 20 years?
Yeah, I don't remember.
A long time.
And it was based kind of on, you know, totals and mathematical figures from way back then and powerlifting as a
sport has changed in a lot of ways since then and in a way that there was obvious flaws with the
formula like it does okay but there was definite ways for improvement and so it's not it's not this
one thing that you can pair people against everyone that people are looking for, you know, this kind of mystical thing out there.
Like, oh, so I can know how much a 100-and-whatever-pound girl to a 400-pound man and how their lists stack up.
And will that thing ever exist?
I don't know.
Like, there's different tools.
There's, like, allometric scoring, if I'm even saying that right.
And there's, like, go on Open Powerlifting. They have a dropdown. You can click around. They have all types of ones that I'm even saying that right. Go on Open Powerlifting.
They have a dropdown.
You can click around.
They have all types of ones that I've never even heard of.
I think one's Glossberg or something like that.
All types of weird ones.
And they all have their own pros and cons.
And depending on what weight class you're in, you'll probably think one is way better than the other.
I still think Wilkes is overrated because, to me, it comes out a total.
That's the whole point we're doing this.
That's really the question.
We're all doing this to lift more weights.
We're not doing this to drop 30 pounds.
Yep.
Drop 30 pounds and lift 60 less pounds than we could at a perfectly good day,
but because we dropped 30 pounds, our Wilks shoots up by 15 points.
Yep.
What's the fun in that?
That's not fun for spectators.
That's not fun.
I still think it's dumb when people have, like, the 24-hour weigh-ins
and lose all that weight, put it right back on instantly,
just to save for one point in time in the last 24 hours.
But they weighed that much, yeah.
It's just dumb games that people make to make themselves look stronger.
So you're saying overrated.
Wilkes is overrated, yeah.
Yeah, I would agree with that for those reasons.
Underrated or overrated?
Imagine Dragons.
Oh, okay.
All right.
Actually, funny story before I even.
Okay, they have that song, Bad Liar.
I would maybe know.
I'm a bad liar.
Like, it's on the radio all the time.
I don't really listen to the radio, but I will.
Okay, I listen to Spotify a lot.
And every once in a while, I'll throw it onto Today's Hits.
Because you've got to know what's going on in the world.
I'm not going to turn into the weird old guy that doesn't keep track of anything.
So they're on there all the time.
They're in Today's Hits.
I, for real, thought they were saying Bad Lion.
I thought they were saying I'm a bad lion.
And my wife is like, what did you just say?
I said, Bad Lion.
She goes, the song's Bad Liar.
I goes, what the hell's a bad lion?
And I go, I don't know.
What's an imagined dragon?
Like, it doesn't make any sense either.
So, okay.
So that's my thing.
But there is this whole thing where you can ask anyone.
There's the thing that people like to hate Nickelback, right?
Yes.
This is why this is on underrated or overrated.
Okay.
Okay.
So some people might be young enough that they might not really know this,
but I think it's a pretty well-known internet joke, internet meme that the joke,
especially a few years ago, was that, oh, Nickelback, worst band in the world,
worst band ever.
Well, the reason they kind of got that is that their music got kind of stale.
Were they sellouts?
Yeah, I think some people felt they were sellouts.
They kind of found a formula formula and they just did it yeah well you could also make that
argument for a lot of rock bands they kind of find their formula and just do it i think nickelback
even admitted though to like kind of pandering to that uh we kind of do what we kind of just do the
same thing over and over and just buy it like they kind of even admitted to that so um imagine dragons comes along and they are kind of the new nickelback yeah they
are like people like they're you can look it up there are things out there of people saying is
imagine dragons the new nickelback and they do a lot of things similar like they kind of have a
formula they kind of have the like kind of just the the song kind of chugs along and then it comes
into the epic chorus and it's like, and their songs are produced amazingly.
It's so sleek, and there's these electronic things in it,
and all this stuff happening, and that's how all their songs go.
Every single one of their songs are like that.
It kind of has its build-up, whatever it does,
and then it just gets to that epic chorus where everyone's like,
going crazy, and then it comes back down down and that's all of their songs yeah so imagine dragons i'll
say they're overrated yeah i would note that that's why they're on there because i kind of
heard that same thing i don't know about imagine dragons but i obviously know what nickelback was
and turned into and everything and nickelback got to the point for me where i didn't really like
making like i like people made fun of them so much that i'm like man i guess i like nickelback got to the point for me where i didn't really like making like i like
people made fun of them so much that i'm like man i guess i like nickelback because it's too much
like negative stuff about it it gets to be one of those things where it's like oh it's so oh yeah
really cool yeah right so that's i'm like yeah they're and then i'd be like yeah i guess they
had a couple good songs i remember when i was a kid and i heard the song this is how you remind
me i was like this is a really and i think that was kind of one of their first singles.
I'm like, this is a cool song.
Yeah.
And then their other one, their other song that I enjoy is that Rockstar song.
Yeah.
Just because it's like not taking the whole thing, like the message behind, like the music
video is kind of funny because it got a lot of cameos.
It's not taking itself too seriously.
Like, this is Rockstar.
We're just killing ourselves and whatever.
Sure.
Okay.
That was fun enough.
And after that, I'm like, I can't really do these things anymore.
But the making fun of them is.
That's totally played out and annoying.
That's like making memes about curling in the squat rack.
Or, oh, leg day.
Glad to know that you agree.
Legs are wobbly after leg day.
Hope there's no stares. I had leg day. Glad to know that you agree. Legs are wobbly after leg day. Hope there's no stairs.
I had leg day yesterday.
Like, who laughs at those things anymore?
Like, that's what I want to know.
Yeah.
Or, like, going to Planet Fitness and, like, being the badass at Planet Fitness.
Like, okay, we get it.
Like, people that are serious about lifting aren't allowed there.
Like, that's not a surprise to anyone now, you know?
Right.
Like, there should just be a rule
like it'd be so cool if there's like a thing that like when people had those really shitty memes
like like it went like facebook or instagram had a detector like this meme has been played out
sorry we're not allowed to post this like are if you post this it will be at a detriment to like
your hand your account do you want to proceed?
Just a way to throttle them down.
Oh, that would be so awesome.
Be more original.
Like those guys at Mastodonics.
Yeah.
Last one here on underrated or overrated.
The movie Pulp Fiction.
Ooh.
Okay.
Pulp Fiction was my favorite movie for years and years and years.
And would you say Pulp Fiction is a cult classic?
Yeah, it is. And so it is one of those things too now where I also feel like Pulp Fiction has kind of turned into like, oh, Quentin Tarantino.
It's his movie.
When I first saw it, I had – the only thing I knew about it is I remember being a little kid and seeing the box of this girl
laying on the bed, Uma Thurman sitting
there, and not getting what I was looking at.
It seems like the most boring movie cover ever.
And I remember watching it for the
first time in high school, and it was like,
what did I just see? That is insane!
That was the first Quentin Tarantino
movie. I didn't see Reservoir Dogs before I saw that.
And I was just going to say, quick note,
go ahead, finish this. I hadn't seen Kill Bill, I hadn't seen Reservoir Dogs, I saw that. And I was just going to say a quick note. Go ahead. Finish this.
I hadn't seen Kill Bill.
I hadn't seen Reservoir Dogs.
I hadn't seen any.
That was his first movie I ever saw.
And I was like, that was crazy.
What just happened to me?
That was nuts.
And now he does.
He kind of has his formula a little bit, which, hey, man, like we've talked about.
Just imagine Dragons, Nickelback, all this.
You find your thing.
You kind of stick with it.
And so it maybe doesn't feel as – like if he saw some of his other stuff now
and went back and watched it, it probably doesn't seem as crazy
because he's almost exploited and popularized that thing now.
But I still think it's an underrated movie.
There's still a lot of people that I don't think have seen it.
Yeah.
It's good. It's great. I mean, it's very dialogue-driven in There's still a lot of people I don't think have seen it. It's good.
It's great.
It's very dialogue-driven, like all of his movies.
It's not relying on robots blowing up the world and doing things.
Not at all.
It is driven on dialogue and story.
It holds up.
And it does hold up really well.
I don't know when Pulp Fiction came out.
I think it was like 92, 93. It was definitely early 90s. It holds up really well. Because it's old. I don't know when Pulp Fiction came out. I think it was like 92, 93.
It was definitely early 90s.
And it holds up really well, I think.
So my question was going to be, you brought up Reservoir Dogs.
Reservoir Dogs isn't as popular as Pulp Fiction, right?
Or is it?
I don't really know.
I don't think it is.
But I really like Reservoir Dogs.
Yes.
I like that.
That's my favorite out of his.
Like even the opening scene when they're arguing about talking about Madonna's like a virgin.
Yes, yeah, yeah.
And they're trying to talk about like is it saying like the sex is so good that it's like she's a virgin?
Or is it because that it's like, whoa, this is so crazy.
So just the whole thing.
It's like, man, that is a real conversation that they're having, you know?
I've also heard people say that's like what's like listening to the Massanomics podcast.
Like, oh my, the way these guys are coming at it, it's so crazy.
But Pulp Fiction is probably my favorite Quentin Tarantino movie.
But Reservoir Dogs is also amazing.
And you get the guys in the suits.
The fact that it doesn't actually show the – spoiler alert – it doesn't actually show the spoiler alert. Right. It doesn't actually show the action.
It's just the,
the before and the aftermath.
Right.
Right.
It's kind of a,
not the most common way to take on that story.
Right.
I've seen where he,
uh,
where the guy,
where he's cutting the guy's ears off and he's stuck in the middle of
the middle with you.
Steeler's wheel.
Yep.
I love that.
Like I could just YouTube and just watch that scene.
It's the whole kind of the way he dances to that. I love that. Like, I could just YouTube and just watch that scene.
It's the whole kind of the way he dances to that.
I'm just like, ah, so cool.
And, like, the contrast of, like, this terrible, like, torture thing happening and kind of like the fun music playing.
And it's over the radio, too, and it's the DJ.
Who's the voice of the disc jockey or something?
You know, I don't know who it is in there, but.
Yeah, I can't think of who it is.
But it's really good.
And, yes, like any Quentin Tarantino movie, the soundtrack on all these are on point. You know, there's classics in there but yeah i can't think of but it's really good and yes like any quentin tarantino movie the soundtrack on all these are on point yeah there's there's classics in there uh one
of my favorite i think it was from reservoir dogs little green bag oh yeah it might even be from the
opening credits it's been a while since i watched it but little green bag that is a classic yeah i'm
a big fan of that song and that's the they're slow-mo walking in all their suits and like that's
like the you know and it's so iconic. Yeah. It's awesome. Yeah.
Have you seen all the other Quentin Tarantino movies?
My wife is a big Kill Bill fan.
I hadn't seen those and we watched all those.
I don't like those as well as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs,
but I think they're good.
Yeah, and they're great.
They're fun to watch.
Have you seen Inglourious Bastards? Oh, I do like Ingl do like inglorious that one's pretty good yeah that one i feel like starts
to get a little more i really like that got that german got that actor yeah christoph yeah yeah
he's hard not to like right like it's he does so good yeah that one um brad pitt is good in there
too yep django did you watch django yeah yeah that's good too like but those ones they have
so much more action in them they're a lot they're a lot easier to just be like, oh, yeah, everyone likes this movie.
It's just newer the way things are.
It's over fast-paced.
Did you watch Hateful Eight?
No.
Or wait, what is that?
That's the one where they're kind of all in this cabin.
Okay, no, I haven't seen that.
Snowed in in the cabin.
That one is like three hours long, and it is straight up three hours of talking.
That is much more of a kind of like Reservoir Dogs style.
What about, did he do like the Magnificent Seven,
like a remake of that or something like that?
Or is that somebody else?
He might have been like a producer on it or something.
But do you know what movie I'm talking about?
I've seen it before, and it just reminds me of a...
Yeah, so there is... I'm probably off on that.
I don't know why.
No, it's directed by someone else.
Actually, I don't even think it had anything to do with it.
Okay.
I'm probably off on that.
I'm just getting my things confused.
Did you ever watch Jackie Brown?
That's probably the one that most people don't even know about,
or not much that they don't know about, but probably the least seen one is Jackie Brown.
That one's pretty good too.
That's more of in the – because all of his movies kind of have a theme. There's the war one. There's the kung fu one. It's Jackie Brown. That one's pretty good too. That's more of in the, because all of those movies kind of have a theme.
There's the war one.
There's the kung fu one.
There's kind of the crime noir one.
Jackie Brown's kind of
the blaxploitation one.
And so that one's pretty good.
I like that one.
That one was,
for not a lot of people
talking about it,
I do enjoy that one.
That's good.
I think he has another one
coming out pretty soon too.
Can't remember though.
We'll review it
once it gets here.
We'll get to that later.
But I've kind of fallen as close as I used to.
So what was the original question about Pulp Fiction?
And you said?
Underrated.
Underrated.
Okay, Pulp Fiction is underrated.
Okay.
So that wraps us up for this episode, I think.
