store and buy yourself some of that sweet mass here welcome everyone to episode 151 of the massonomics podcast the world's strongest podcast your favorite two hosts are here again today
tanner and tommy what's happening we're kind of on the 150 hangover right now we're still trying to
get over that like it was a big milestone and now now we're back to the old salt mines to keep picking away at this thing.
That's all we've ever known.
That is.
What are you wearing?
So for our weekly t-shirt unboxing segment we do here now on the show.
Before we get into this one, if you guys want to send us your t-shirts, we'll review them live on air.
Preferably not like your used t-shirts.
Yeah, they should be new and properly sized for us.
I typically wear an extra large.
Tanner wears a 2X.
But we can unbox and review t-shirts live on air if you guys would like that going forward.
For this week's segment, we do have a very special piece.
Friend of the podcast, friend ofonomics uh been on the podcast a
few multiple podcast guest appearances uh kind of fat kind of strong brad neitzel yeah is in the
process of launching his own chiropractic practice and strongman gym and powerlifting gym.
So he has a lot on his plate. And with that, he needed logos, T-shirts, all that good stuff.
And he resorted to the experts, yours truly right here.
We got him taken care of.
So he didn't do this himself.
He didn't do it himself.
He went to, you know, he knew the right people to go to.
But he wanted something that just had that kind of clean, classic look.
He said he was a big fan of the Masonomics logo.
So he gave a good direction, and I like that look too.
I was going to say, I thought you made it pop pretty good.
I did make it pop.
So yeah, it's Iron Range Performance is the name of it here.
I'm holding it up for those of you that are watching.
And I'm wearing it if you're watching too.
You can see how it looks on body.
But thank you, Brad, for sending these over.
It looks good on body.
It is a really nice T-shirt.
I love the thing of when someone sends you something
or you order something, you forget you got it,
and you're like, oh, what's this package in the mail?
And then when I saw Brad's name, I'm like, ooh,
I forgot that these were coming.
And I did send him a message.
I'm like, I might just keep both of them, not let Tanner have his.
He said we might have to fight over it.
I suppose I don't need two of the same one.
Yeah.
It is a nice-looking shirt, though.
The old white on black always has a good look to it.
It does, yeah.
We should probably do some more of that, shouldn't we?
Yeah.
Well, actually, we do have a new black shirt coming.
We kind of actually, yeah.
I don't know if we can spoil it.
Are we? We'll get to that. It's Arnold Week. We'll get to that later. Okay, yes. have a new black shirt. We kind of actually, yeah. I don't know if we can spoil it. Are we?
Well, we'll get to that.
It's Arnold Week.
We'll get to that later.
Okay, yes, we'll get to that.
This is about Brad.
Yeah, this is about Brad right now.
We don't want to step on your toes right now.
No, no, we don't want to take his thunder right now.
But thank you, Brad, for sending it.
Is Brad selling these yet?
Well, I think he did kind of like a preorder for them.
Okay.
And from what I can tell, I think most of them are gone.
If you really want one, though, I'm sure you could send him a DM and he could make it happen.
I think he likes it if you slide that one in.
I think so.
As we were talking, I was thinking about something else.
I don't know if you're aware of this.
We've got a little bit of a competition going on weekly when the YouTube video of the podcast comes out.
There is a pretty heated
competition out there to get first comment
it has become a thing I mean like
all the great YouTube channels that is a thing you know
yes so
I know we've said this before
the podcast it comes out
is published on Apple podcast and
everywhere you listen to your podcast that
comes out very early Monday morning
so it's there when you wake up.
Every morning when I wake up, I have the notification.
Every Monday I wake up, the notification is just sitting there.
It's there with your cup of coffee, and you pop it on,
and you've got an hour plus of just pure auditory pleasure.
But the video version published on YouTube comes out earlier.
That comes out Sunday evening.
And we've got a group that are pretty religious about watching.
We've got some diehards in there.
Yeah, that watch the podcast on Sunday evening when it comes out.
And I'd say right now there's kind of a three-way battle for first comment
every week.
And it goes quick now, too.
It's getting quicker there.
You probably see the notification for that.
I don't.
I just know when I check on Monday at lunch,
there's already multiple comments in there.
Yeah.
So the ones that race for it are Scott Dodds, longtime fan of Masonomics.
Yep.
CPA strength.
I think that's his.
Also a longtime fan.
Yeah, I don't know what his name is for sure.
I just know his handle on things is CPA strength.
And I think he was the first one to start getting first comment.
And I think he was the first one to start getting first comment.
And I think he probably kind of got lackadaisical on it and thought, like, hey, I always get first comment.
Like, there's nobody fighting me for this.
And then Scott Dodd showed up, and now Big Jim.
Mr. Swim Hat himself is throwing his hat in the ring.
Yeah, James Strickland has been fighting for first comment.
And sometimes they are commenting so close to each other, it's almost hard to tell who really gets the right to first
I mean YouTube could be wrong
yeah check us out on YouTube if you haven't
and check the comment section and let's see
who which one of them
gets that prestigious first comment
maybe there's a newcomer out there waiting to dethrone
all of them that could be
I'd like to see that if you're listening to this
stop and go to YouTube quick.
Even if you don't want to watch it, turn on the YouTube notification
just so you can beat someone else to it.
Yes.
Maybe someday we'll give someone a special prize for making first come.
We got some stuff sitting around.
We could make a prize out of this.
We're not going to do it this time, but we'll do it sometime.
So here's your warning to turn on notifications.
Yeah.
You might be
just entering yourself into a prize yeah we got to give uh scott cpa strength they have been doing
it for a long time james some competition here yeah so that's our uh but maybe we'll update that
could be a new segment each week of who made first first comment. Yeah, who did it first. I'm sure people would really want to know that, so we probably should.
Yeah.
So last week's episode, we were talking about the Log Lift World Championships
and wherever that's at, the Giants Live competition.
And do we have a – would you say we have a retraction to make?
We, believe it or not, are wrong already.
Our expert opinion.
We didn't even make like a week
we we made it actually from the day we released from the day we recorded that podcast to when we
were proven wrong was maybe five days maybe so we're really good at predicting the future yes
actually it's probably about the worst we've been wrong on something that we're aware of
uh it's hard with larry though, because he just does things.
Yeah.
So, yeah, usually we like to leave our Larry segment out until the end.
But because we were wrong, I mean, we should probably just admit to it.
A lot of people don't want to admit their mistakes.
We have nothing to lose, so we can gladly admit to it.
This is our where we were right, where we were wrong segment.
It's like that thing in, like, newspapers and magazines
where they've got to have the corrections right in front so you but yeah um yeah we thought okay he's done what 400 is his best 395 396
whatever it was 180 kilos okay if he has a even a 10 increase would be insane we thought like
maybe he'll do 420 ish yeah and what do you do this week he did just over 200 kilos which was like two i don't know if
it's 203 or something weird like that i think it was 445 or give or take a couple pounds of there
so all of a sudden like he doesn't look like a person that shouldn't be there oh he said a he
said a 50 pound pr in a week on log press he's like how what were you doing before yeah apparently he just wasn't doing
log press before is what was going on but still it's like so much improved you know the the 180
didn't look easy it was like a shaky rep the last week it wasn't it wasn't like he just blew through
and you're like oh he's gonna do way more than that That's what doesn't make any sense about all this. That's Larry.
Larry knows how to peak, I guess.
He knows something.
He's doing something that we're not.
But it did.
Here again, it didn't look easy.
You wouldn't look at it and be like, he's going to do more than that. But judging by what we know now, that means he's good for another 40 pounds.
Yes.
So he should set the american record when it
in like a week but now he is with 440 plus if he can do that it's still different in uh oh yeah
of course and that you know he can't hand anything to him yet but uh now you'd say he's in the
running for you know maybe he could place or yeah and based on his history you'd assume he's just gonna get what
if he just does even just 20 more pounds than that then he's up above 460 and he's definitely
in the range of placing at that point i don't know and it was funny too because thor was doing
the same weight that day he missed his first one yeah his second one he got it but it kind of
looked like a really fast lockout. It wasn't the easiest link.
He kind of had it and dropped it as soon as it was up there.
You know, Larry kind of held his a little longer.
I'm not saying Larry is not indicating that Larry is going to beat Thor at the log press,
but it's just on that given day.
It's like showing how not easy that is.
Yeah, right, right.
Yeah, it really is hard to wrap your head around what's going on there.
So if you had to guess just today how much you think he's going to get in the competition,
and they are on a big wooden log, and it's much longer,
and they all say it's a lot harder to balance.
I would imagine, yeah, you get that thing off of level a little bit, I'm sure.
What they say is the very hard part is actually holding it at lockout because like they even if
they get pressed up there you know they actually have to control it for a second and just with how
long and awkward it is and with that much when you get to those weights like 450 plus that gets
obviously that gets hard yeah it makes sense i don't know like if he has the perfect day
450 is that is that an? You would think so.
It seems really hard to believe that there's that much more there.
Right.
Because then it really makes no sense.
Like, what the hell have you been doing?
I would want to say that he might do less than the 440 that he did.
Well, that's the thing.
It's like with attempts in and the law.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Sitting here today, that's what I would think.
I wouldn't be shocked if. That's what sitting here today. That's what I would think is a, you know,
I wouldn't be shocked if he did less than that,
but obviously I'm not a good predictor of what Larry's going to do.
So he'll probably do like 550 and break the world record by 50 pounds or
something.
Yeah,
probably.
That's probably the safest bet here.
Yeah.
That's,
that's really all I can come up with.
Yeah.
He's going to do over 500.
You heard it here. Yeah. He's going to do over 500. You heard it here.
Yeah.
Breaking news.
Wow.
Larry.
Larry.
So you guys got your Larry fix real early this week.
Yeah, earlier than normal.
Let's go into other feats of strength since we're kind of covering that right now.
Okay.
There was something making the news this week,
and that was a powerlifter in Michigan lifting a car off of a person.
When I first saw that, I think it was just on Instagram.
I don't even know what page it was on, if it was a powerlifting one or just a random page.
I thought, oh, powerlifter.
Okay, yep, this guy's – it's really just a regular dude.
A guy that goes to the gym.
It's just like, yeah, just someone that we all know that goes to the gym
and he's done powerlifting meets just like any of us.
And so they're saying powerlifter and it's all this crazy thing.
And that was what I thought of it.
And I didn't even bother looking into it.
And then I thought I saw another post saying, like, that this guy's pretty strong.
And this was getting posted on, like, news accounts.
I think, like, news accounts.
Yeah, not just lifting stuff.
I don't want to say, like, maybe House of Highlights or something like that.
I saw it on, too.
So, like, some pretty big, like, sports accounts, too.
So just before the podcast here, we're looking, like, okay, like, let's find something.
Yeah.
So we pull up the news article.
I just google it and in the news article it claims that uh the guy's name ryan belcher uh you know
saw this car flipped outside story goes he ran out uh rushed to the vehicle saw this guy trapped
under it calling for help and then he basically just starts lifting the car and trying to pick it up
and eventually hears, yep, that's good,
and these people get this guy out from under the car.
There's interviews.
You can look at more of this online if you really care about it.
But the thing that jumped out at me was when they said that Belcher is 350 pounds
and can squat 950 and deadlift 800.
I was like, okay.
Is this one of those things where it's just people that don't understand lifting is 350 pounds and can squat 950 and deadlift 800. I was like, okay.
Like, are those just like, is this one of those things where it's just people that don't understand lifting and just start throwing crazy numbers out?
And maybe there was some kilo conversion issue, or maybe he's like a multi-ply guy.
We both made that comment, like, oh, maybe he lifts multi-ply.
Yeah, and it's like, okay, well, like, it's still very impressive, but it would make more sense if it was multi-ply.
He's squatting 950.
But because there's a thing called open powerlifting,
we were able to get to the bottom of this in a hurry.
Well, let me tell you, just hop on over to openpowerlifting.org.
You can type in anyone's name.
So I go on there, I type in Ryan Belcher in their handy little search.
And the amazing thing is when you type his name, just by the default sorting,
it says number 157.
And that default would be by Wilkes, right?
Yeah, like all-time Wilkes.
Of all male and female.
Yeah, male, female, all-time.
And this is sorted by Rob with Rep.
So number 157 all-time.
I'm like, really?
This guy's in the top 157?
His Wilkes, 558.
Okay.
That seems like a lot.
Click on his name.
And we're like, oh, he's not an equipped lifter.
This is Raul's raft.
Yeah, click on his name.
And right there, he has two meets to his name.
Just started last year, at least as far as open powerlifting goes,
they have two meets documented for him.
His most recent one, 308 plus weight class uh weighing 334 squatted 905
benched 525 deadlifted 800 for a 2230 total that's really really impressive you should go to the main
page again but then just sort by male 308 plus and see where he ranks because it's probably yep okay well even just male yeah
figuring male okay he takes him to 123 and then if would you say 308 plus yeah
that'll probably really shoot him up 308 plus he is number 34. Yeah.
Slightly ahead of Kelly Branton.
Yeah.
Slightly behind Luke Richardson.
Okay.
So, and even just slightly behind JP Carroll even.
So, I mean, like. Can you make it 2018 only?
Ooh, okay, okay.
Really, really, let's see where.
Oh, oh, oh, oh. Really, let's see where.
And 2018.
Well, it's not even moving because it's probably on the page here.
But that's the fun thing with.
Oh, 2018, he had the 18th highest total net worth. Okay.
Yeah.
That's the fun thing.
You can do this with yourself.
Start with the most basic.
See where you're at.
And just narrow it down until you feel better about yourself.
Move up hundreds of spots.
I did look at it.
This was, I think, when we were doing the Masonomics
stat of the week.
I looked at Larry's and I on there,
and we are very close in the list next to each other.
Oh, in the total list, really?
We're both, like, have the same,
I think it's maybe like in
the 17 000 or something like that and we're both in the seven we're like maybe a couple hundred
spots away from each other or something as far as the database goes yeah it's pretty great right
i was like oh that's funny yeah but we almost had like an identical wilks is why like it was
almost we're a few hundred spots away and almost had the exact same Wilks. Yeah. Oh, and with some of these, it has to be like a hundredth of a point.
It has to be a difference between like 50 places.
Yeah, for sure.
But, so yeah, this guy is the real deal, Ryan Belcher.
Strong people are just, there's just strong people among us in life just floating around.
They could be picking a car off you one day.
So that, he picked, was it a Jeep, I think? It was a Jeep, yeah. I could be picking a car off you one day. Was it a Jeep?
I think it was a Jeep.
I think it's a Jeep.
I'll get you the exact make and model here.
Jeep Cherokee.
Not the Grand Cherokee, just the regular Cherokee.
I could lift a Jeep Cherokee.
There's a reason they don't have Cherokees in Strongman,
because they're not that heavy.
I mean, if it was a Grand Cherokee,
then it has the additional suspension.
Yeah, the bigger has the additional suspension. Yeah.
You know, the bigger wheels.
Right.
It's all that.
And was the gas tank empty or full?
That's probably what the difference makes.
Yeah.
And was there a spare anywhere in there?
So I don't know.
All lifts aren't what they seem on the surface.
It is funny that at the surface of the story, though, you think like a lifter lifted a car.
And you're like, yeah, right.
But then you look at the guy and it's like, actually, this guy probably lifted a car.
Yeah.
When you look at his Instagram handles, I am one, the number one him.
So I am one him.
Yeah.
His page is all lifting.
And he is the real deal.
He's really strong.
Yeah.
That is pretty cool.
So who said there is no practical application of
there is this to the extreme and i think it was like the strength athlete or something
they had one and it was like um ah i'm gonna sound so dumb because i can't remember how it
went but it was something like um lifter approached the car uh it was quoted for saying
oh there was no and didn't have chalk sorry i. Yeah, no chalk. Sorry, I couldn't do it. I really got a kick out of that.
Yeah, it was something like, yeah, sumo wasn't allowed.
Right.
I was like, ah, that's really good.
Yeah, I did get a kick out of that.
Finally, a sumo joke that's kind of funny.
Yeah, rare, but...
Yeah, I like that.
Another good meme account, I know we've talked about it,
that I just stumbled upon that I hadn't followed before.
It's called Pen... I think it's Pen underscore G. I hadn't followed before. It's called pen.
I think it's pen underscore Gledley.
It's a play.
I saw, I saw they had one this week.
Uh, I don't know if it was frustrated strength coach or athlete, but it was directed at, uh, powerlifting motivation.
And it was the, the family guy one.
Like you guys always think you're better than me.
I think that was where I first heard about that account.
But yes, that, and I had heard about that account, but yes,
that,
and I had just found out slightly before that through,
uh,
the frustrated strength athlete.
And,
uh,
yeah,
that was fun.
That is a funny,
yeah,
there's a lot of,
I don't know the ins and outs of it,
but there was a lot of,
uh,
drama with like between some of the different accounts there that,
uh, Oh, I'm'm sure i don't you
know like i know they're getting on each other make you know blocking each other deleting them
yeah i couldn't even follow i bet you know it's like what they say about making a good meme you've
got to crack a few eggs to make an omelet that is i think where the uh phrase originated from
is it making lifting memes and then they carry it over to omelets it is kind of funny about That is, I think, where the phrase originated from. Was it meme creation? Lifting memes.
And then they carry it over to omelets. It is kind of funny about, you know, because we're in the business of making the occasional meme to lifting related.
And it is funny.
Like, you almost can't make one without it.
It will.
A good one is going to, like, upset some people on some level.
Well, yeah.
And I mean, that's kind of humor in general.
Yeah, that's true.
I think that means that you're doing something funny.
Right.
If you're just appealing to the broadest audience
of curling in the squat rack,
it's like, okay, well, that's one.
Not funny unless you have the...
If you've developed to a first grade level of thinking,
it might be funny to you,
but anyone else that's lived their life is like,
nope, not funny anymore.
Yeah, but not only does's lived their life is like, nope, not funny anymore. Yeah.
But not only does like people like take it as an attack, like there's people that can't look at a ridiculous meme and be like, that's funny because I'm kind of like that in a way.
They say like, oh, you're attacking me.
But that's the best part is like, oh, you find out who those people like.
Those people have to let themselves be known that like, yep yep they uh they really they really are that person yep they have that level of intellect they wanted everyone to know how dumb they are yep um so yeah i guess uh powerlifting
does have at least one practical application yeah 2019 has figured that out already so so
i'm gonna just walk around and hope to find people crushed by cars half to death.
I don't hope for that, but to each their own.
This is a big week, Tanner.
It is.
It's a really big week.
Do you want to tell people what this week is?
Assuming they didn't wake up on Monday just knowing,
feeling that something was different in the air.
Yeah, this was the week after President's Day.
Oh, that's what that feeling is yeah oh okay all right president's day is over we're past valentine's day we're waiting for the uh saint patrick's day yeah yeah it's got a little between
it all yeah that downtime between valentine's day and saint patrick's day yeah people always
talk about the downtime between Christmas and New Year's.
I'm like, oh, no, no, I'm on a whole other level here.
The downtime between President's Day and St. Patty's Day.
No, what it is, as you listen to this,
we're either almost on our way to the Arnold, at the Arnold,
or somewhere in that process.
Hashtag road to the Arnold is this week as you're listening to
this so uh monday we're still here in sunny south dakota tuesday we're in south dakota
about very early wednesday morning we'll be on the road to uh beautiful columbus ohio sunny
columbus ohio i think they refer to it as i hope i pray to god it's nicer there than it
is well it can't be worse but you know what let's uh let's check the uh 10 day here i really do pray
to god that the weather that it's not blizzarding you know that first year we went uh it was
actually like kind of okay and when i say kind of okay i mean it was like 30 something i think oh
my god it's 44 degrees there that wouldn't be too bad that sounds really and
maybe for some people they'd be like oh 44 degrees that sounds cold if we were somewhere right now
where it's 44 degrees and not windy you know how warm that would feel i well i just saw the
newspaper said the other day with the exception of like a couple hours on one day we're like
what day 50 of temperatures well temperatures below freezing. Oh, yeah.
It's like anywhere else in the world.
It's like, why would you do that?
But the average number of days that have hit zero is probably, over the last month,
we've probably hit zero or less a lot of those days.
I'm totally ready for my heat bill to come
and for the average temperature for February to say zero.
There's no way it can't. We had all days of like negative with wind chill like negative 50 negative 40
yeah it takes a lot a lot above the other side of zero to bring that average up above
it is weird even today though how warm 18 feels yeah like 18 and no wind that feels pretty nice
for some reason and that sounds like the dumbest thing in the world but it is true it does feel pleasant like yeah but 44 yeah it's balmy i hope it's like that do they have a forecast out to
wednesday says 35 tuesday 40 so we'll just assume somewhere between 30 and 40 i just hope it's not
snowing raining on the way big one What's it say for rain and snow?
Nothing really.
Well, we should be good then.
I can't picture the weather changing.
It definitely, I think it says 10-day,
yep, 10-day forecast is guaranteed to be 100% accurate.
So yeah, we got nothing to worry about.
Perfect.
I got to keep this website in mind here.
It's the one that's accurate. Yep, this is the one that's accurate um so we are going to the arnold
we are for we're not going to back out of it and we will have a booth there that's a question well
oh um i mean if something i don't know like i'm i'm pretty flexible with my schedule like if
something crazy comes up i can't guarantee that i won't say no to it but as of right now i'm probably gonna make it
so just don't get my seat away in the vehicle but like pencil you in at this point pencil me in yeah
that should be fine yeah don't don't i can't commit to anything though have you been thinking
about how fun the drive is gonna be though you know it's been a while since i've got to go on
a 16 hour car ride um i've done several actually you know what it's
probably been it's probably been a year since i've done a 16 hour car ride usually i feel like
once a year i'm good for a 12 hour car ride um but 16 you don't touch 16 too often 12 is usually
pushing the limit of what you want to do in a day um yeah i don't know if i've done it like i've done it one time and it was a
evacuation of a hurricane yeah you didn't even really travel that far no no it was just gridlock
traffic for from florida to atlanta georgia uh miserable yeah uh see that yeah that would be
just awful i'm trying to figure i think that was about 15 hours i think the last long one i did was
we drove back from missoula, Montana in one day.
And according to Google, ooh, according to Google, that's only 14 hours.
Oh, walk in the park.
Yeah.
You know, Colorado.
Colorado, you can do Colorado in like, what, 10, 12, or Denver, like 10, 12 hours.
Like, done that one multiple times.
But yeah, and we're only going 12.
We're only going 12 in one day.
12 in one day, 6 in the next. Yeah, we're only going 12 we're only going 12 a one day 12 and one day six in the
next yeah we're being dramatic here yeah so thursday we should get there hopefully around
noon ish and from our source many sources that i've checked into it's going to be an absolute
zoo when we get there as far as trying to set up our booth yep so hopefully we get that accomplished
and assuming we do we're going to be booth 528.
528.
Yeah, and we're on.
If you're familiar with the Arnold, if you've been there before,
are you aware of on the map kind of where we're at?
I think I have a general idea, yeah. So if you walk in the door and just kind of walk in some of the main entrance doors there,
straight ahead to the back is like the Strongman stage.
We're to your right.
Yep.
If you're going back towards the Strongman stage, we are to the right of the Strongman stage.
We're to the right.
Like to the left would be where the animal cage is towards your front.
Yep.
Kind of towards the center-ish would be where the amateur Strongman is.
Yep.
Far to your right would be the
highland games and where they do some of that stuff and like ninja warriors yeah yeah and we're
kind of not that far right yeah we're kind of between the the strongman uh the other amateur
strong yeah the amateur strongman and kind of the highland game stuff is kind of where we're at yep
and and closer to that entrance side than we are the backside
where the Pro Strongman is.
So that's kind of where we're at.
For those of you that have never been there before,
that was probably a painful couple of minutes.
So, yeah, if you haven't been there before, first of all,
I really hope anyone listening to this is going to come see us.
That is going to be really awesome.
We do have a secret product we're come see us. That is going to be really awesome.
We do have a secret product we're unveiling there.
That is true.
We'll get more to that in a second.
But I do really hope Booth 528, like we can meet and see some of you guys.
I know last year just walking around, some people were like, hey, we know you guys. And that was really, really cool.
Like if anyone does see us, like for sure stop us we'd love
to you know chat for a quick second take a picture whatever there's a good chance we'll remember
could even remember you and like scott dodds i know scott dodds name because he stopped set the
strongman yeah yeah if you do if you do meet us and say i've ordered something there's a good
chance we'd remember you like yeah not because no one orders anything but we do pay attention
to that stuff so it does mean a lot to us when people um you know when people acknowledge that
like we've maybe brought some value to your life in some way through the years here yes and and
what would be even better if you is if you're wearing something mass and that would actually
be really cool yeah if you uh you know if you have some massonomic stuff on we uh maybe we
could do something get some stickers or something you know just you have some masonomic stuff on we uh maybe we could do something get
some stickers or something you know just yeah we'll do something yeah we'll do something for
you yeah we don't know what it might suck but it might not be that cool but it'll be something yeah
uh i'd be interested to see if we see many people in you know i mean for sure we're gonna meet some
people that we have got to know in the past year or so.
And I'm really excited about that.
That probably is the coolest part of the Arnold is actually getting to meet and talk to people that, as far as you know, only exist in Instagram.
They could be fake for all you know.
Putting faces to the Instagram handles.
Yep.
And so that's what I get the most excited about.
Obviously this year we have a booth, and so ideally we would sell some stuff too.
That would be a huge letdown if we don't sell anything.
I don't think that's possible to not sell anything,
but right up there with selling stuff is going to be meeting you guys, though.
Yeah, and the past couple of years we've done a lot of interviews with a lot of cool lifters.
And if you're listening to this if you never check those
out definitely you know in all seriousness go to the youtube channel it's like the only thing we've
ever had on youtube in the last couple years besides the podcast yeah there should be a uh
what do you call that a playlist a playlist of just all the arnold interviews for the last couple
years there's some really cool ones i mean it really is the who's who yeah if we didn't get
people it was just because we couldn't.
Either they weren't there or we just schedules didn't work.
But, I mean, we got a lot of people covered in those interviews.
And those interviews probably averaged about five minutes long,
and we just hit some really cool questions.
It's just the really hard-hitting questions about training and specificity
and just training related.
I mean, literally, you know, we've interviewed Thor,
Ed Code, Stan Efferding.
I have a bad cold right now.
I know you.
Can you?
Yeah, you do.
It's making it hard to say some of these words that I even want to say.
Terry Hollins was a cool one we did this year.
Ray Williams.
I mean, Ray Williams, Chad Wesley Smith.
Jen Thompson. Pete Rubish. Yeah. uh terry holland's was a cool one we did this year ray williams ray williams chad wesley smith jen thompson pete rubish yeah uh a lot more than jp price jp price rob philippus uh brandon franklin uh james strickland yep uh some of these we've probably already said now but right either
way we've interviewed a lot of people and uh they're all good stuff like i I was joking earlier, it's almost none of them talk about training at all.
It's more just like straight bullshitting, like talking, joking around.
Michael Hearn.
Michael Hearn.
That is one of my favorite ones.
Yeah.
Because I don't know if anyone like hammed it up better than him.
No.
Okay.
So what – I always just like to ask these questions, like rating things and stuff.
What would you say is your favorite interview that we've done over the last year?
The favorite out of all of them?
Yeah.
As far as just, like, interest in being a really good interview, I thought the Terry Hollins one was really good.
Yes, the Terry Hollins one is really good.
And that one, it's still – I think I've said this multiple times, but it still shocks me just how big that guy's frame is i mean like he yes he's a
big guy but a lot of big people they just eat and eat and get fat and heavy and it's like okay yeah
but his frame his the broadness of his body like the size of his wrists he has to have like size 20
feet his feet are massive yes um he's just a really really big guy um so that that is one of my favorites the michael
hearn one is great because he kind of i mean he is at that legend status in the fitness industry
in general i mean he's just been around forever and he's done a lot of different things um
and like the way we caught him in the morning before uh the arnold was really open up to the
public and it was like oh is he
gonna do this interview and right away he was just like let's go guys like and as soon as we rolled
it was like he was yeah it was like the this like you get a camera in front of him and the switch
flips and he's like showtime yeah he was and he's like joking about you yeah staying at his house
and leaving your pants there we talked to him for 30 seconds yeah prior to that and i
mean it was almost like you it felt like we'd like built this rapport with him over the course of
like months and it's like no we literally just met the guy so uh that one was a really good one um
those are as is good the cows i mean the cow's one is good it goes into some weird places but
i mean this really there's not a bad one like i can't say that there's one that's like
what were we doing there?
They're all really good.
Blaine Sumner, we interviewed him.
I'm just thinking of other ones as we go.
So this year, it's going to be different with the booth
as far as the interviews go.
We're probably not going to,
because our strategy before,
we walk around everywhere and just catch these people.
Just run and gun, baby.
And catch them where we can.
It'll be a little bit different.
It'll be more of us trying to pull people probably to our booth to interview them.
And some people have already said they want to switch guys.
So that is also something to look for is that you don't know who's going to be popping into the Massanomics booth.
Exactly.
Is there anyone that you would have in your mind that we haven't interviewed before that you think would be,
A, would be really cool to interview that we haven't interviewed before that you think would be A, would be really cool to interview that we haven't gotten
to before and maybe
B, that we could potentially, you know, it has to be
reasonable that we can actually get them to.
See, the ones that I think would be cool, they
kind of fall out of the reasonable criteria.
I think Brian Shaw would be really cool, but
for some reason, it's like he just
doesn't do that stuff. We've gotten Thor
two years in a row. Yeah, and like he's
just like gone
yeah during like he's one of the strong men that speaks good fluent english and you can't get him
for some reason like jerry pritchett we've interviewed yes yep yep um but so yeah brian
shot would be a cool one mark bell would be a cool one to do um brian sean mark bell would both be
ones that i just don't think that that would ever happen no not we in the right
situation where we're at their booth we could catch them yeah probably it hadn't worked out
the last two years but uh getting them there this year probably won't be an option yep jesse
burdick because he's always been cool we do need to get just we could maybe get jesse burdick to
come over to our booth and do it we almost do have to get him we've done him the last few years
to just ask about the power yes yes and we kind of almost have if we can him. We've done him the last few years. It's always pretty fun. Just ask him about the power shoes again.
And we kind of almost have.
If we can figure out a way with him, we need to try and get that done. I would like that, yeah.
Someone that's going to have a booth, I think, not too far away from us,
I mean, not very close, but down the aisle quite a ways,
who we need to catch when he's walking by sometime is Lane Norton.
Oh, is he?
Yeah, so we'll be able to catch him probably.
Be like, we are the masterminds behind that name.
Yes, pretty much.
And man, people hate you.
That's kind of what I would like to talk to him about.
I would love to.
What does it feel like that so many people are saying?
And he has to be like, no, you have no idea.
Yeah, I would like to ask him a couple of those questions.
And those are the things that are fun because you can ask people.
Like, we could never, like, if we sent him a DM, like, hey, man, people really hate you.
He'd be like, huh, yeah.
And, like, it would kind of end there.
It wouldn't really go.
But when you're in person and it's like we have this connection, now all of a sudden, like, I'm sure he can tell us some great stories about stuff.
Right, right.
So that's one that maybe would be doable.
What's he have a booth for?
BioLane, I don't know. I don't know if he still is. I think he's not doing the biolane i don't know i don't know if he's still
i think he's not doing the supplements i didn't think he was but that's a good question some
people i wonder that exact thing what do they have a booth for just uh because it's not cheap
to do this stuff right larry we've never gotten larry oh that would be a good one yeah but he's
actually at the point of like same thing like when it when you see. It's going to be like Bradley Martin.
Yeah,
it's the same thing when you see Bradley Martin.
Like I think Larry is almost at that point.
Yeah.
I mean,
he will be mobbed.
I don't know if it'll be like the Bradley Martin point where people just stand around him and like literally just look at him.
Like,
dude,
that's really weird for everyone.
it's so weird.
Last year,
Larry wasn't like that,
but I think he's between last year and this year,
he's gotten,
I think he's blown up a lot. Yeah. As far as social. as social well i mean his could almost say his life is social media as far
as how that goes but yeah i think he's on a whole other level from last year to this year yeah i
don't know how much we're gonna be be able to peel away we've talked about it before i don't know if
we'll get away from the booth much at all but it would be fun to get in the animal cage uh for a
little bit again if it all possible yeah it's just a it's just a it's just like oh if that's going on though we're not selling
it right exactly and then we're not meeting people that want to talk to us so right right um but yeah
you know hopefully we can get around a little bit and some of the alabama contingency and i'm
excited to meet those guys too yep uh big jonham, Bacon and Beer Bells,
Les Keys, the owner of the gym that they're at
is Matt. They'll all be around.
Yeah, that'll be awesome.
They don't call them the
Alabama Contingency for no reason.
You don't get to be a contingency on accident.
Is there anyone else that
as far as that we haven't gotten to interview
it seems like I was thinking maybe one or two more
but no they're not.
Oh, Martins.
He would be really fun because he's kind of a fun guy, and he's someone that we could probably get if the situation is right, too.
Yep.
Yeah, these are definitely all, like, wishlist perfect world things.
Probably won't all happen, but there's a possibility for a few. Right.
There's some other cage lifters that we haven't interviewed before, though, that would be good to get, like Joe Sullivan.
I'd like to just talk to him about bending that bar in half.
Rob Hall, it would be interesting to talk to him about that.
Like, he almost died from that deadlift last year.
There's some other cage lifters that would be cool to talk to, too.
there's some other cage lifters that that would be cool to talk to too that we probably and they are a little more accessible to us than uh some of those other ones oh maybe even like stephy
cohen too that would be a cool one yes that's one that we talked about too i don't even know
she's gonna be there i no clue but i think she's lifted in the cage yeah so yeah that would be cool
too yeah i think she's an animal sponsored athlete now, but I'm pretty sure I saw she's lifting in the cage again.
Taylor Wallum will not be there.
I know we had talked to him, and he's not going to be around,
so that one's off the list.
But we'll get some good ones.
We will.
Stay tuned.
And more importantly, you guys listening, come check it out.
Come say hi.
Yes.
Yes, do come say hi, and we'll get a picture and put it on the grams.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But we're not going to put your,
you on the gram unless you're wearing a mask.
Very strict rules for how we run this business.
But that is booth five 28,
five to eight.
That's where the party at.
Free LaCroix with,
with every $200 purchase.
Yes, exactly. Yeah. already at free LaCroix with uh with every $200 purchase yes exactly uh yeah it'll be a good time yeah um okay have we talked enough about the Arnold itself do we want do we want to get into
um some of these extra segments here Arnold uh yes yes yes do we want to do what about uh we touch on the one lifting
legend so let's uh let's let's touch on this lifting legend okay so you guys are all aware
of our lifted lifting legend series we just did an episode about it a little while ago that kind
of we went over several of them um we still have several more that we could go over with you someday
here but this one that we have coming up that'll be released at the same time as this episode is very pertinent to what we're doing and talking about
this week it's uh lifting legend on arnold schwarzenegger he actually lifted though he
didn't just pose no he did more than just pose as a surprise uh he's also did movies oh have you
ever seen kindergarten cop that's him okay is he the guy from jingle all the
way yes okay yeah yes okay yep i know those two movies that's it though he was the mayor of
sacramento i think uh i have shaken his hand you have you have that's probably should be bullet i took a shaky picture of him okay so our lifting legend we usually we don't feature bodybuilders all that much necessarily
we kind of look at what people have accomplished as far as lifting uh so that's kind of the take
we took on arnold a little more is what he actually did lifting so the number one bullet
on him he won two junior weightlifting meets, and that was in 63 and 64.
Well, was it a state meet or like a local meet?
Well, it wasn't in the United States, so I don't know if it was like.
What?
Yeah.
How is he supposed to be a state champion?
That's true, and that is the ultimate goal, junior state champion.
It is the pinnacle.
Gold medals are temporary, but junior state records it is the pinnacle uh gold medals are temporary but junior state records last
forever words to live and die by okay and i don't know what his weightlifting numbers were before
but those would have been about but it was actual weightlifting yes olympic weightlifting okay cool
and i don't know what his numbers were but that's how he got it that was kind of his very first
of anything lifting related.
Next thing, he competed in a handful of powerlifting meets at the ages of about 19 to 21.
And from what I saw, he had four meets in there.
And his best one, I think, was his last one.
And here's what he put up for numbers in that powerlifting meet.
And this would have been, I think, at age 21.
and this would have been, I think, at age 21,
a 474 squat, a 441 bench,
and a 683 deadlift for a 1598 total.
Yeah, it's not a bad day. Oh, and those numbers, like, this isn't on open powerlifting.
This is on, like, what I could dig up and find.
But I found it in a couple places.
I'm sure they're pretty accurate.
So a 683 deadlift yeah at 21 and and also the fact that 441 bench yeah 683 deadlift and a 441
bench like those usually like his two best lifts were benching and deadlifting those don't usually
go together right the 474 squat is a little less impressive as those other two.
And I would imagine that went up over his career, assuming he probably never maxed out again.
Well, here we go.
The next bullet is reported best gym lifts.
Okay.
5.45 squat, a 5.20 bench, and a 7.10 deadlift.
And there again, he wasn't a lifting to max out his powerlifting numbers.
But I mean, still, there you go.
What would that be?
Over a
1750 total
in the gym
for a guy that wasn't really trying to do that.
Yeah, just build straight up power.
And also, he weighed like 230 pounds.
It was a different time too.
Like then, how many people700-pound totals then?
We're talking the 70s.
Right.
Dr. Craig.
Todd.
Dr. Todd.
He was the first guy to have 1,600, 1,700, 1,800.
He was the first guy to have every total.
That wasn't a thing really then.
Probably lesser important facts here.
He was seven-time Mr. Olympia.
He won six straight.
A little asterisk there.
He won six straight, came back like five years later and won his.
Was it that big of a gap actually?
Yeah, I think he won 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75.
That would be a six straight.
Yep.
And then he didn't come back until 1980 i think it was 80
yeah and one dang again yeah and also last bullet probably the least important former governor of
california wow he must really gave up on lifting that yeah what a what a quitter
you kind of forget about that part with him now, I feel like.
Yeah.
It's like, that was a thing, actually.
Well, he was the governor for eight years.
Yeah.
Of California, too.
Yeah.
That's not some little state.
Oh, right.
I mean, to us, being the governor of South Dakota is a pretty big, like he, you know,
if the.
I mean, there's only 50 of them in the world.
That's true.
And he was one of them.
Yeah, that is really cool.
I mean, he does have, not even touching his movie career.
Right.
His impact on the world is insane.
Yeah.
To the point where he can shut down Columbus, Ohio.
Just watch out for his bodyguards.
Yeah, when they come flying through.
They will straight up just smash you out
of the way all right uh do we do we got big lifts this week danner um larry's was probably the
biggest one that was probably the biggest one you're probably there's a couple other big ones
that i thought but i don't know if i put pen to paper on do we want to talk about that guy
deadlifting that you just showed me oh yeah jamal brown i think is his name god i just pulled 950 i've just ran across him randomly and was like
this doesn't make any sense and almost like dismissed it because i couldn't wrap my head
around it it's jamal browner okay this is his name and his handle is jamal underscore b15 950 by 1
he pulls sumo
but it is so fast
his setup is so quick
and he pulls it so fast
it almost
it doesn't seem real
it doesn't even slow down
until he's getting to the point
of lockout
it is funny how it goes so fast and then literally
just like stop i don't know i don't know if there's i don't think anyone that pulls sumo i
mean how many people can pull sumo to 950 like straps or not anything like kaylor and yuri are
probably like are the only other two in there yeah i think he's beating both of them in office
yeah his off the floor
speed doesn't even make it doesn't make sense no because like that's where it should be slower on
a sumo you know yes um but he does it different i guess but yeah that that's probably the big lift
of the week right there outside of uh yeah that is a good one i'm glad you mentioned that one
he doesn't have a ton of followers either like 15 000 yeah he's not like this guy with
living the ig follower life over there.
Oh, I wouldn't be surprised
if he even has an Herbstrong affiliate code.
He hasn't made it that far yet.
Do we have a best Instagram YouTube comment of the week?
We do have that.
We definitely have that.
Let me pull it up here.
It doesn't disappoint.
We've had some good Instagram YouTube comments of the week here,
and this one is one of them.
Out of all the ones we've had, this is one of them.
What this was on is, speaking of the Alabama contingency,
Bacon and Beer Bells.
They actually had.
This is almost.
So the name of the gym is actually CrossFit Irondale, right?
CrossFit Irondale, and then it's Diamond K Powerlifting is like a part of the gym.
Yeah, so if you're not familiar with what's going on in this gym, you need to check it out because the amount of stuff they have between people popping in, the people that go there, what they're doing, like it doesn't make sense what they got going on.
And so they had a deadlift party, I guess you'd say, or a deadlift event where it was not a sanctioned meet or anything like that,
but just a bunch of people getting together and see what they could pull, see if they could pull some PRs.
And Frank Natty was there, Brandon Franklin, I think he pulled over 700.
Pete Rubish was there, but he was injured and didn't deadlift.
I think he was planning on deadlifting.
Ray Williams was there, and he squatted 1,052.
And it looked really fast.
There's a big lift.
Yeah, actually, that and even what we're going to talk about.
Yeah, right, right, right.
Yeah, so we're kind of on big lifting, but still.
Yeah.
My brain's not working.
John.
Yeah.
John had an 800-pound deadlift.
Yeah, so he won the deadlift competition, actually, for the day.
There was a few of them, I think, that were right around that 800,
and he was the only one that got it successfully.
But that was like a huge PR for him.
I think maybe he said 60 pounds or something like that.
Yeah, it was an awesome lift. Yeah yeah 800 pounds ain't nothing to mess with that's uh it's uh it's a good club to be in but so that
gets us to the comment of the week we shared that video of uh john doing that big pull and
someone on there got gets on and of course of course they have to question their manhood
because someone lifted more than yes and they say let's see you pull that conventional and i i like john's comment
what do you say i probably probably i he goes i won't i can't yeah it's like what is that what's
the point it's like what so what are you trying to prove man right like he's not doing it the way
you want him to do it like okay like okay. Like, what does that mean?
And I liked,
I do like that.
I was just like,
well,
no,
I can't do that.
Was there a part of this where I said,
I can do this conventional.
And like,
what if someone's,
some people are better.
Sumo pullers,
the conventional and sumo pulling is allowed.
I wouldn't see you bench and be like,
all right,
do that narrow grip.
Cause it doesn't matter.
In the records, it's not like the list of best sumo deadlifts,
the list of best conventional deadlifts.
It's just the number.
And this wasn't in a meet.
So, again, none of that matters.
It's just these guys were lifting.
But I think it goes back to what I responded to him is that, in all honesty,
I don't think even a conventional deadlift is horseshit.
If it's not a Jefferson deadlift.
Yeah, so you did raise the standards bar here and say that only Jefferson deadlifts count.
That's actually my new thing is, like, I think not only are sumo deadlifts cheating, conventional deadlifts are cheating.
Yeah, because for some people it is the easiest way to do it.
Right.
If it's not, Jefferson is borderline.
I'll accept it.
People don't know what a Jefferson,
the Jefferson deadlift is when you straddle the bar,
and you pick, yeah, one hand's in front of you,
one hand's behind you,
and you pick the bar up between your legs.
It is a real thing.
It's called the Jefferson deadlift.
Jefferson deadlifts all allow.
They're all right in my book.
Also, which is one other variation that's not cheating, is a Zurcher deadlift and that jefferson deadlifts all allow they're they're right in my book yep um also which is not one other variation that's not cheating is a zurcher deadlift where you bend
over and put the bar in the crease of your elbows fold them over get it onto your knees
and that would be okay also yep only deadlifts that count from now on. Yes.
Zurcher deadlifts or Jefferson deadlifts.
Everything else is cheating. Do you allow straps with your Zurcher deadlifts?
Like you can wear them if you want.
Yeah, you can put the straps on your wrist.
I'm not sure how you're going to implement them.
Definitely not a Jefferson deadlift.
That's cheating.
Oh, yeah, for sure.
I mean, I could Jefferson deadlift 800 if I used straps.
Well, we all could.
If you wanted to use straps, next you're going to use a belt.
Yeah, so I think.
I lift raw.
This is to start our campaign that the only deadlifts that ever count from now on are Jefferson deadlifts.
So you can just reply to anyone that has any critique of your deadlift from now on
and say, well, until you've done it, Jefferson, it doesn't count.
It doesn't count, Jefferson, or it ain't shit.
I like it.
I like it.
Whatever your name was, you are the lucky winner of best Instagram
slash YouTube comment of the week.
We don't have a stat a week to go over today.
We probably will have one for you next
week so we'll get you back on that then yeah um we do have probably what everyone's been waiting
for what you come for larry wheels you come this is what you come for you come for larry wheels
you come for lacroix you come for herb strong you come for the lift shorts plug for the lift shorts
world's most expensive shorts i don't think we you come for the lift shorts, plug for the lift shorts, world's most expensive shorts.
I don't think we've talked about the lift shorts yet on this episode.
That's kind of some of our major bullet points.
But most of all, what you wait around for is the underrated, overrated.
Those other ones are just, you know, it gets the eyeballs, but this is what keeps the people in the seats.
So that's where we're at.
We're going to go through underrated, overrated.
And my favorite part about underrated, overrated,
if you don't know by now, is the rules.
And they're pretty simple, but I'm going to cover them anyways.
What underrated or overrated is, it's lightning round questions.
Some of them are pop culture questions,
and we also mix in some lifting-related questions.
There's no set ratio of number of lifting-related questions to pop culture,
but there just may be lifting-related questions in there, and that's no exception today.
There may be lifting-related, underrated, overrated.
The other rule about it, the questions are, in fact, lightning round.
The questions come at you quickly.
The answers are not lightning round.
I ask these to Tommy, and Tommy has his choice of answering them as quickly or as lengthy as he wants to if
he wants to make this a four-hour podcast to give you very long underrated overrated responses he
can but that's up to you yeah um you did it tanner yeah that was that was very good so that's the
rules yeah i think for me you and i are both on board with the rules, and I believe everyone out there is up to speed.
So here we go.
Number one, underrated or overrated.
People asking, what is your why?
Are you familiar with that phrase?
What is your why?
For marketing?
Yes.
Like, what is your why?
And specific to that, to saying it that way.
Okay.
Like I'm only, so there, there is a Ted talk.
I think it wasn't Ted talk.
It was Simon said Simon cynic.
I think it's how you say his name.
I haven't seen that or, and maybe even I've only, I'm only familiar with this question
regarding marketing purposes.
Yeah.
That would be like, they, it would be that or like uh just like
your for your reason for existence yeah yeah yeah um i think he's the one that really made this
popular like if you if you google like finding your why simon cynic has this talk about how i
mean it has some merit like his whole thing is people don't buy what you do they buy why you do
it yeah okay yeah yeah i get like People don't buy Nike for the –
I know a lot of people don't buy Nike just because of the shoe.
They buy it because they have Michael Jordan and LeBron
and all these guys doing this crazy stuff.
It's like, ah, I love that.
It's the same reason people buy CBD oil because they see other people –
it's kind of the affiliation thing a little bit.
But he really popularized this concept concept and he wrote a book called start
with why and i read the book and he kind of mixes in some pseudoscience about the middle of your
brain matches the diagram that he made for or actually the diagram of your brain for the
different levels of your brain the corpus callosum and all this stuff how it matches his diagram for
why and all this stuff i'm like well
okay that's like it's let's dial it down there a little bit um i do think it has some merit in the
way that yeah um just because you have a product nope here here's our product it's the best like
that for the most part doesn't really cut it nowadays um but i do think it's very overrated
people being like oh i read this one marketing book, and I'm on a whole other level here.
Yeah, I don't like saying what is your why.
Like using not nouns.
It's just annoying.
Yeah, it's annoying.
Yeah, I would agree.
Underrated or overrated?
Bohemian Rhapsody by queen okay when i was a kid the first time i
saw the movie wayne's world yeah i was probably in like third grade and you're like and i want
to grow my hair out well first of all i'm like this is the fun as a third grader clearly didn't
understand half of the jokes but i thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen.
And that was the first time as far as I know in my life that I heard the song Bohemian Rhapsody when they're in their car, you know, doing it.
And it's a very iconic movie moment.
And I was like, that is so cool.
I need to know.
And like my parents, like, oh, yeah, we know what the song is.
The song has been around forever.
And then I remember Napster downloading Napster.
Yeah.
And that trying to be the first song I ever downloaded.
I'll be sure to see what the police will think of that. Well, I didn't say I did.
I said I tried to.
You wouldn't download a car, Tanner.
And that's why I was like, I thought it was the coolest thing ever,
and then I had a friend that had a Queen CD,
and I was like, man, they get the guitar going.
It's like, yeah, this is so cool.
I do really want to see the movie.
I have not seen it yet.
It is on my list of things I need to watch.
So what's the name of the movie?
Bohemian Rhapsody.
Okay, and I'm not talking about the movie.
You're talking about the actual song.
I'm talking about the song.
The song's great.
I love the song.
I barely knew that that was a movie.
I think I saw that.
That was probably subconsciously why I said this. But yeah, the movie. I think I saw that was probably like subconsciously why I said this, but like, yeah, the song.
I think I read that it is the only song in like the top 100 most played songs on Spotify
that's not made in the last like five years or 10 years.
Okay.
That's cool.
Yeah.
It is like for whatever the age group, it might be since 2000.
Either way, it's like that song is the far outlier for the 100 most played songs on Spotify.
Okay.
That's kind of cool.
It is like it is.
It's a work of art.
It's totally on a different level.
There's not other things like it.
No, no.
Yeah.
Do you know what a scaramouche is?
I do not.
I don't know what any of that stuff is.
Can you do the fandango?
Yeah, I don't know what any of that stuff is.
I think a scaramouche is like a clown or a court jester type thing. Really? is i do not i don't know i don't know what can you do the fandango yeah i don't know what i think
a scaramouche is like like a clown or a court jester type thing really and can you do the
fandango i think the fandango is a dance maybe i would assume so i think that's what they're
saying like yes i've i've honestly never even looked into what the lyrics are yeah it's
scarabooch scarabooch can you do the Fandango? Thunderbolt and Lightning, very, very frightening.
Me, Galileo.
Is it Galileo or Mamma Mia?
Galileo, Galileo, Ficaro.
Yeah, there's a lot going on there.
Yeah, I don't know what it means together.
Have you ever seen me and Ryan's Wayne's World costume?
Yes, very good.
We might have to include that in the notes on this thing.
But, yeah, I went one year as Garth, and my brother went as Wayne.
Did you straighten my hair and uh was that a process
it was a process yeah um we won some money out of it though oh we got second place in a pretty
pretty big halloween costume contest at a bar at a bar i think they gave us a hundred dollar bar
tab and it was gone in five seconds.
Literally five seconds.
Yeah.
Because it was like, we must share this with the world.
Yeah.
And it was like, oh, okay, well, that money's gone now.
Right.
That's how it should be, though.
Well, yeah, you can't just be stingy and hold on to that.
Right.
You've got to get rid of it.
But I do want to see the movie really bad.
So are you saying?
Bohemian Rhapsody, underrated.
Yeah, I like the song also.
I like Queen.
Queen.
Yeah, underrated.
I like We Will Rock You.
Maybe that one could be people could think that that's overrated.
That one is just, you could say, overplayed.
Do they still really play that at sporting events now, though?
I don't know.
I like it for lifting.
That's a song I listen to.
I feel like it's coming back, though.
It is.
When we were growing up, I'd be like, oh, you're going to do a sporting event.
You're going to hear We Will Rock You probably five times.
Yeah.
I don't think that's in the, like, Zombie Nation is in the regular rotation.
Oh.
Yeah.
Oh.
And, hey, I like that song, too, but the sports rotation has changed a little bit, I think.
All right.
So I mentioned that sometimes we mix in some lifting related topics.
Underrated or overrated?
One rep max calculators.
I mean, they can be a useful tool if you're using it to project something that you did one time and it's going to carry over.
Well, I mean, it's going to give you a ballpark, but they're kind of overrated because they're not actually true to what you're going to do
there's all these variables
from person to person and
how you did that set of
five with straps not to
competition standard and it's probably not going to
carry over to a one rep max standard
so I think they're probably
overrated they can be useful to
but yeah they're overrated as far as actually
saying y'all my one rep max is right here yeah i'd agree with that pretty much exactly
right unless you did a 15 rep max and then you're using it to calculate your max that's the perfect
conversion then i'm saying they're way underrated a 15 rep max deadlift uh touch and go with straps
is a perfect yeah that is actually how i figure out like my third attempt in a meet is like what you're 15 like 20 weeks ago yeah 20 weeks out from the meet yeah i do a 15 rep max
touch and go with straps look at the old chart drag my fingers across see oh boom right there
800 pound 800 pound that's how that's what i'm gonna deadlift in the meet now i know my third
you don't really have to do it though if you know well but then yes also that also does bring up the point of like well now that i know what my one rep max is why
do i need to pay meat fees you can already put it in your association federation fees all this stuff
you could just put it in your instagram bio then well yeah it's it's more economical saves a lot of
extra hassle and work like yeah you know your one rep max now so yeah 15 rep max calculators good
one rep max calculator not so good i max calculators good one rep max calculator
not so good i do agree though it has its like it's can be a helpful thing like we have on we have a
big sheet uh you know on the board at the gym that people refer to often it gives you a ballpark
like i remember last year looking at it that first time uh um i can try to think of what squat i did
like a set of five at like 455 or something.
And it was like, according to that, my squat would be like mid fives.
I'm like, no way.
I can't squat that.
And I squatted mid fives.
I think everyone knows this.
I think the lower the number of reps, the closer to accurate it gets.
Like if you, when you get up to 10, it's who knows, it could be right.
But, uh, you know, the closer you get, like when you get three, but 10 It could be, right? But the closer you get.
But 10 is not.
15 is the sweet spot.
That's right.
3 or 15 is kind of where those things are made to succeed.
I agree.
So what, I guess, is your answer?
They're overrated.
Okay.
Underrated or overrated?
People saying, don't yuck my yum.
That's actually a thing? Yeah, yucking someone's someone's yum and you know what that is by by hearing it if uh say you like yeah don't don't wreck what i like
yeah right right right uh that's super overrated that's so lame and that one's in there just
because i thought of it after saying what is your why that reminds me of the same sort of thing like
yucking someone's yum.
Sounds like something that doesn't know how to talk.
Yeah.
I'm not saying we have to be smart here.
We do a lot of dumb stuff, but that's really dumb.
Yeah.
Okay, so overrated.
Yeah.
What if I like it, though?
You're kind of yucking my yum.
I kind of am.
That's okay in this situation.
Underrated or overrated, by design, almost yucks someone's yum every time.
It does.
You have to have an opinion here.
Yeah.
Underrated or overrated?
Chapstick.
Oh.
All right.
I, for me, if you said chapstick no longer exists, I'd be like, okay, fine, whatever.
My wife would lose her mind.
Is she a Burt's Bees?
She doesn't care what it is she needs it on her
whether it's carmax chapstick burt's bees whatever the things are she wants it and she makes fun of
me because she claims i always have chapped lips which yeah we live where it's negative 40 for
weeks on ends you probably do have chapped lips but i don't know if i'm just too dumb to even know it and uh i don't use chapstick like ever like pretty much the only times i use it she says you look
like you have white crusty lips put chapstick on and i'm like okay and uh it's almost like an
accomplishment if i like see her i'll be like look i'm putting chapstick on she'd be like oh
i'm like actually impressed right now um i think chapstick's
overrated but uh yeah i think it's overrated like all the way through high school i'd never
had a chapstick like i maybe used someone else's before or something which is kind of gross too
but i've never really had my own and then later i slowly got into it but then i was
i had to i have i had like, I have like prescription strength chapstick because
like I was taking some of those really dragged my lips out, you know?
So in that case it was a savior because my lips got like, like insanely dry to the point
where it'd be like bleeding if I didn't use it, you know?
But I do, that's why the reason I put it on, on here on the list is because I do think
some people are like almost probably addicted to having ChapStick when it's not even necessary.
There's something where once you get the bug, it seems like you love it.
I have not been that person yet.
I do believe it serves a purpose, but to me, it's completely overrated.
Yeah.
That's actually the end of the official list.
There was one other thing that since we talked about it, underrated or overrated, abducted in plain sight.
I've only heard – I haven't watched it yet, but I've only heard people say really funny things about it.
I don't think that's supposed to be the takeaway from it.
It's ridiculous.
There's several times where I'm like, what in the world?
Is it a series or a one –
Oh, it is a one.
I assumed it was like multiple episodes.
That's why I'm like, I can't devote my time to this yet it's oh well now i'm for sure just gonna watch it one of these days
i guess a documentary movie okay yeah i gotta see this then yeah you gotta see just the way
we'll talk about it after yeah yeah the way it's been explained to me though my friends are like oh
and then he said this yeah okay yeah and they're like that's not something you would say what i'll just say one thing about it
at one point in time this this this family their her their 12 year old girl had been missing for
five days they did not report it to the police until five days yeah and when you have like people
like that it's like what's going through your mind? Right. Like, that's one of the parts where I was like,
okay, so there it's obviously not like me
in very many ways, you know?
Yeah.
Like, yeah.
I mean, you have to watch it.
After you watch it, we'll talk about it a little more
and spoil it for all those that haven't.
So here's your warning people to watch it
while you have a chance.
A week. Yeah. I guess that probably wraps us up with all the hard-hitting segments
are we kind of towards land where are we towards that part yeah it's uh it's time to break it down
um the biggest thing we said it before a majority of the episode here is you got to check us out at
the arnold if you're going to be around come to booth 528 we're going to have everything for sale there and we're pretty much bringing it all so we're
bringing the house so so for that matter if you want to buy anything off the store you probably
should do that because there might be a period of time there where we don't have much of anything
left if if it goes gangbusters and we sell everything at the arnold we're gonna we're
gonna have to turn you guys away for a little while.
Put up the clothes sign for a little bit.
We'll see how that goes.
We do have the new shirt coming out.
And that is the big one.
We do.
We do have a new piece of Mastanama's apparel.
Could we say what it is now or not?
Because it wouldn't be out yet.
I guess we could tell them.
We'll just say it's called the Curl Hard Shirt.
Yeah, okay.
It's the Curl Hard Shirt. Check it okay. It's the Curl Hard Shirt.
Check it out.
Yeah, you have to do some investigating to find out why. It's a visual.
It's a visual thing.
You've got to see it.
Right.
But, yeah, the Curl Hard Shirt will be making an appearance at the Arnold.
If there's any left, we'll probably get some thrown on the website.
If not, it might be a while.
It could be a while.
So you're going to want to get those.
Yeah, come by the booth.
Buy something.
If you really don't think you need to buy anything because you're one of those people that already has everything,
well, then you can come say hi and hang out.
Yeah, for sure.
And I am wearing the first ever Mastodon shirt ever made.
Yeah, that is the OG.
It's got some holes in it and a lot of stains.
There are a lot of stains on that thing.
And this was out of the wash it just has
like stuff on it everywhere it's just been through some stuff and i would sell this for the right
price but the right price on this like this does actually have some value to me like yeah like that
is from the first run of massacres shirts ever this is the first that's it i think that was a
run was that a run of like 25 shirts. Yeah, tops, I would say.
It has good holes.
I'll probably keep this one in the rotation. But you could make me an offer, and maybe we would let it go.
But I don't know.
It's a vintage shirt, though, so you've got to have vintage pricing.
That's true.
But, yeah, check out our store.
You can buy all that stuff.
We've got newsletters coming out,
so make sure when you're on the site to sign up for the newsletter.

The podcast numbers are we're hitting podcast number prs we are we're uh on a
weekly daily monthly level we're hitting podcast download pr so that's pretty cool and that's
because of people like you yeah that's because of you guys so and we like that yeah share share it
around uh you know uh we put posts sometimes out on instagram you can share those or just probably
more importantly just tell some of your lifting friends about it.

it is the fitness industry's best kept secret.
The Massanomics podcast.
And CBD oil is quite the secret.
It's booming right now.
So this could be the next...
It's definitely not a bubble.
This is definitely not a bubble.
This could be the next real thing.
Just like CBD oil.
We're at the least as real
