Welcome everyone to the Massanomics Podcast, the world's strongest podcast.
Special, very super special episode this week.
This is episode 156, marking our third year anniversary of the Massanomics Podcast.
And your favorite two hosts are here again, Tommy and Tanner.
What's up?
Tommy, what do you think about big three-year podcast?
This is three-year podcast anniversary. Do we just big three-year podcast? This is a three-year podcast anniversary.
Do we just say three-year anniversary in general?
It's kind of tough because this isn't really the three-year Masonomics anniversary.
Masonomics is older than that.
Can you really assign a birthday to something that just is?
That would be saying Masonomics has only existed since 2016, and that's definitely not the case how long has it
was it a full year it was a full year before that at least wasn't it yeah at least the gym that was
called massonomics gym right from the day that it started what that was in 2000 that opened in like
october of 2015 and it was around before that yep uh it might have been even into early 2015 like because we actually it existed before the
power before the power lifting we had shirts so it's almost borderline 2014 i want to look just
to see if i haven't resaved over anything right here looking at my computer my first well i have Well, I have a folder here, January 22, 2015.
Yeah.
Let's see if I have anything older than that.
January 22.
It may.
I have.
Yeah, for sure.
January 2015.
The oldest stuff I have is, yeah, January 2015.
But that's also, it existed before that because I didn't just make up
mass anomaly stuff.
So it would have existed
in 2014 yeah so we're at close to four and a half years there but of the website and the podcast
which those would have started about the exact same time yeah we're at uh the three-year mark
well it's pretty cool though yeah all the doubters thought we'd be packed up shop long before now
they underestimated our ability
to put out thousands of pieces of content kind of a nice thing is we have so many various
anniversaries that we get so many opportunities every year to like revisit where where we're at
and these milestones yeah it is kind of cool like that that is that that can be a thing um
god it's it is as hard like i don't want to
like go into because we've talked about like the history of mass economics and like reminiscing
it's kind of whatever but it is just weird to think like that here we are three years later
still doing a podcast yeah one we have had a new podcast out every monday every single monday
for three straight years.
I do not think we've ever...
Well, we've had a few
like Tuesdays.
Right.
So every week.
Every week for three straight years.
And 90-some percent of them
it has been on Monday.
Yes.
And we haven't missed a Monday now
for a very long time.
But yeah, every week
we've had a brand new episode
never replayed.
That is actually
probably the craziest part
is that there's never been
a replayed one or a week off. Because we could do
that if we had to. Oh, easily.
Even Mark Bell's podcast used to always do that.
One of these weeks, we probably should
drop in the episode one
replay. It's so bad.
Just almost as people can listen
to it and be like, ugh.
I almost should go back and listen.
Yeah, I haven't.
Oh, we weren't good at carrying, like, had no tempo or pacing or anything.
And it was, like, almost interview.
I'm sure it was interview style.
Yeah.
Because, like, we didn't know what the hell we were doing.
And Tyler sort of had an idea in his mind.
And I think it was just, like, him asking us questions.
And it was like, ah, yeah, yes.
Nope.
It was probably like, God, these guys are terrible at interviews.
Yeah, I haven't listened to that since it was brand, you know,
since it was new, so three years ago.
It's just really funny to think of those ones.
Even the people at the Arnold, they're like, one guy told us,
I started at the beginning.
It's like, what are you doing now?
At the beginning?
Start at like 100 or something.
Because you're going to get burnt out way before it starts to get entertaining, I think.
Yeah, right.
I guess it probably has developed a little bit.
I mean, obviously, that's what we're saying.
It has developed.
But I think in the beginning, we were maybe more concerned about having guests as interviewed.
Yeah, and not that there's anything wrong with it, but that's like the easiest, the easier, obvious thing.
Easier in the way that you're relying on someone mean, come in with fresh ideas, new content a lot of the time.
Not easy in the way that you got to find people and either travel or work with people's schedules.
Like that part would suck.
It's not even easy for just the two of us to make it work, you know?
Right.
But then we realized like, we like, we would, would one we prefer to do interviews in person.
You know, way better chance to just. Yeah, that's kind of the only way.
Yeah. I mean, that's still to date is the only way we've done it. Yeah.
But I did not ever see it going this way of like it just kind of turning into more of a, you know, like someone said last week, the podcast about nothing.
The lifting podcast about nothing. That's what we are it's almost
could replace the world's strongest podcast the tagline could be the lifting podcast about nothing
that's more accurate probably it is i believe in in a number of ways uh but that's even even that
in itself is a way that has changed i don't think at at the very first i knew you know i don't think
any of us thought went into it thinking that we're going to be the most serious and uh informational source and or
anything like that but as we've gone along we've certainly figured out more that like yeah we're
definitely not that we're not even going to pretend like there's a lot of people that will
pretend to be we're not even going to pretend right and we'll just let someone else have that
yeah exactly and like we will just be the one that it's guys kind of just bullshitting and yeah uh that maybe
have some opinions and yeah we're far enough removed from everything geographically that
we're just kind of in our own world over here yeah it's just if we wanted to do phone interviews we
could have interviewed every single person that you you know that but there's so many people
already doing that that I don't think.
I don't know if we have anything to add to that.
No.
I think enough people have that one covered that I don't know
what the massonomics take on that.
In person, yeah.
I think we could inject some fun into that and do all that.
But we're just not in a position where we have that.
If we could get Steffi Cohen on the phone and and do a uh phone interview
podcast with her not going to be that fun like she kind of i know she kind of gets massonomics
and stuff so there could maybe yeah but any little bit of sarcasm you might have or just
timing goes out the window right and all of a sudden it's like okay uh do these guys have
something wrong with them or right and whereas if we're in person with her
and uh hayden yeah the two of them like kind of get into the whole thing a little more you know
it's just yeah so that's that's not also i don't think it's a sustainable like if you're relying
on having guests on your podcast to have a podcast most of the time that gets real like
you the well runs dry at a certain
amount of money if we had that every week if we've done 156 interviews up to this point it's like man
who else do we talk to that we haven't already talked to twice i know yeah you it's like how
many people are worth listening to now and then you have to figure out what to do if you're going
to have an episode and not have a guest on there.
Where we found enough things that we revisit each time, like LaCroix and Left Shorts, etc. How many times can you talk about LaCroix and still people just love it?
I mean, no one gets tired of that.
Speaking of that, how is our LaCroix sponsorship coming, Tanner?
Nothing yet.
I feel like they haven't followed up with us, so I'm probably going to have to follow up with them.
They're probably kind of like the hippie type.
They don't really check their emails. They're playing hard to get, I think. Yeah They're probably kind of like the hippie type. They don't really check their emails.
They're playing hard to get, I think.
Yeah, it's kind of like the college acceptance letter.
Like, we're just like, oh, are we going to get in?
Yeah.
But they're probably playing tough ball right now.
Maybe our fans could do us a favor and DM them on Instagram.
I am shocked at the number of people that have screenshots that are like, oh, I get LaCroix ads now because of Massonomics.
We've probably gotten 50 of that DMs.
It's like every other day you get a screenshot.
And I get the ads all the time too.
Yeah, yeah.
I do think there's a correlation to that too.
And I don't know if it's just – I don't understand how that works necessarily,
but our fans are getting more LaCroix ads.
So I don't know.
We're doing something.
Yeah, I guess LaCroix doesn't feel like they have to sponsor us
because they haven't already figured it out.
Those losers will keep doing it for free.
We're feeding them anyways.
Tanner, I noticed with the World world log lift championships coming up you were
working on your last minute entry yes i was like if larry got that invite without really any
credentials what's stopping uh what's stopping me i could tell what i can impress an excessive
200 pounds over my head on a log well what were you doing for sets tonight when i did uh 235 for uh three sets of three is that uh two actually is that
in your range is that working for you yeah yeah that's not super easy for me like i i've had it
a little higher before yeah yeah i've i think i've logged press maybe the most i've ever done
for a single is 275 275 i've overhead 300. And it's a big log, too.
Yeah.
To make it sound tougher.
It looks big.
It's not actually that heavy.
But it is a big.
And the bigger ones are harder just to maneuver.
Yeah, I think certain times it's harder to clean.
Certain ones are harder to press.
Also, yes, that whole thing.
And like log, I'm not super good on log versus other.
I'm better at pressing.
I can do more with an axle than a log, and that's maybe common for people.
I'm not really sure what typically people can do more on between the two,
but I can personally do more with an axle or a barbell than I would be able to on a log.
So, yeah, I was doing 235 for three sets of three.
And that's not super easy for for me.
Yeah, it's like do you do you is the press the hardest part versus the clean?
Yeah, the the clean. Do you ever have an issue with the.
Well, so I've just this is my week for I've kind of programmed log.
Like I'm looking at maybe doing a strongman competition where there is a log clean and press away for reps.
So are you alternating weeks between AMRAPs and max out to prepare yourself?
That's the only way I know.
And I didn't have, I think I had like seven weeks total from when I thought about doing it to when it is.
So I was like, well, I'll give it it a shot see how it goes uh train up so this is the heaviest you know I'm like for my third or fourth weekend
and this was the heaviest I've I've gone up to that uh like last week I did uh 225 for two sets
of three and a set of five at the end and like a set of five at that for me also wasn't super easy
like I videotape it sometimes and if you look at it on tape it's like oh it looks pretty good that is always but like in my head yeah you
don't just grind right i mean maybe a couple people do but uh overhead reps are not yeah
something you're ever just grinding out a big thing with me on the log is just getting a little
more comfortable being standing there with that thing in your mouth,
you know, like right in your face.
Yeah, with your head tipped straight back.
Yeah, like just getting more comfortable with the balance.
And also it's just the lockout of the log.
Like you can always, if you do a little bit of a push press,
you can always like throw it up over your head.
Everyone can push it out about halfway to 70%.
It's that.
Getting that.
And then even getting to the point where you're holding a lockout too is a whole other story.
And with those weights for me that are reasonable, you know,
it's just a matter of getting that balance figured out and just getting more comfortable.
And just a few weeks in, it is starting to feel better already.
I think the competition weight is 255.
And I think, you know, if I just stick stick to the plan i think i'll be able to
go and do that for some reps yeah but i did see though i did see though you have a secret weapon
yes secret weapon pulling out all the stops this is what i really i figured you i figured this is
what this was getting what this was getting to you have finally stepped into the territory of that one
tool that the one thing that yeah the one the one thing i didn't have the one thing that you didn't
have yeah that any person that competes in strongman that that wants to say they're serious
besides reband warm pants this is the next one on the list because everyone has elbow sleeves and
knee sleeves i'm not talking about that stuff no you want to tell them what the secret weapon is tanner the reband belt like the two the two part what do they call
it even it's um it's like the strong strong something belt like they have they have a couple
different different classifications of belt and this is their more kind of heavy duty ish one
see there's pictures of ones there that are just like the soft core yeah and what do they call there's like they have do have a name for it it's like the strong well this one says oh
this one says strongman back support medium this one's like the 7730 back support yeah they all
have a number too yeah the core line back support x stable see and maybe it's 7732 i hate companies
that do like just numbering things because it gets so hard.
They have a 7792, 7930.
It's the most, it's the one that's like 80 some dollars.
7732.
Ah.
Oh.
But it's the two part one where, yeah, it's not that one. Because that's kind of, that's like just kind of the inside of the one I have.
That back support.
That's kind of almost like your like kind of generic belt.
That's not really a belt.
Yeah, so what the belt feels like and looks like,
it is two separate belts.
You can just wear the neoprene center part.
It's a lot taller than your typical powerlifting belt.
Because really the name of the game, at the end of the day,
it's all about how much neoprene you can fit on one man's body.
You want to get done with a strongman competition
and just be drenched with sweat even if you were just
sitting there and people not know is that man machine or neoprene what am i looking at like
that guy has so much neoprene going scuba diving what sport is this uh i can't even find it on
rogue so it's got that neoprene 12 inch tall tall sleeve that goes around you that's almost just for purely warmth, I would say.
It's not going to add anything for you to push against or anything like that.
And then it's got the Velcro belt that goes outside of that that allows you to tighten down again a little bit.
Because don't some of the, like a lot of the guys, like Halfthor and them, they just wear their actual lifting belt over it, don't they?
a lot of the guys like half thorn them they just wear their actual lifting belt over right yes because if this the stronger part of the belt the actual velcro piece of this it is not like a power
belt still yeah you know but my theory is i would probably wear that for events that maybe i wouldn't
be wearing my power belt or my power lifting belt for and log might be an example of that like i
don't know if i feel comfortable wearing my super
tight uh oh yeah because you have a lever belt too so yeah yeah or maybe like atlas stones you
know i could i also don't know that i want a big old power lifting 10 millimeter pioneer belt on
for that but something like this um doesn't really feel like it's getting in my way or restricting me as much.
But then if I'm doing like a yoke walk, I would still put on my powerlifting.
With this one?
No.
Well, I would maybe put the neoprene part on underneath.
Yeah, that's what.
Yeah, that's what I would probably do.
When you unlock your ultimate potential.
I mean, that neoprene thing could just as well stay on all day.
You don't want to take it off.
I want rashes over my
entire body by the end of the day like i need heat rashes everywhere not just my elbows and my uh
legs from the warm pants i want it everywhere yeah well naturally um so do you feel like i mean do
you feel like it makes is it does it have a different feeling lifting with it on yeah it
feels different than not having a belt on.
It still isn't like you cannot push against it like you can.
An actual belt.
Yeah.
If you were going to squat or deadlift with it, I don't see the application.
Maybe the neoprene part underneath for a deadlift and then a real belt over the top of it but um yeah i think it's probably not necessary like most of
the stuff that a lot of people wear but it's just another thing yeah it's at the end of the day it's
like still a really cheap hobby yeah that neoprene thing around your back makes you feel nice and
warm you know it's like it does i and some you know my back gets tight sometimes, and that makes it feel better.
Even if it's just 85% mental.
Yeah.
That's still something.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, placebo is working for you.
Right.
I'm not saying it is placebo, but even if it was, it's like, I'd take that.
Is it necessary?
No.
Did I get it because I need it?
No.
Did you get it because you told the family they can't eat for a week,
so this is what it's coming to?
Yes.
Did I get it because I rarely purchase anything for myself
outside of food and gasoline?
But did I get it because I kind of see other strongman people wearing it,
and I was like, eh, maybe there's an application for that for me?
Yes.
That's why I got it.
I don't see anything wrong with that.
I think ReBand is...
People spend $40,000 on trucks.
People spend $50,000 plus on trucks.
People spend $40,000 on trucks with probably less deliberation than me purchasing this ReBand belt.
Because I probably thought about buying this for a few years.
You don't want to just hop into something
and not know what you're getting into, though.
It was nearly $100.
Yeah.
I mean, it's getting close to the three-figure mark there.
So, yeah.
You don't want to make any dumb decisions.
As long as we're talking about equipment,
I mean, does that cover us on the neoprene?
I guess in case anyone's confused,
just when in doubt, the more neoprene, the better.
Especially in Strongman, there are no limitations.
You know, I do have a full neoprene vest
that I wear when I wakeboard.
I could probably just wear that in the gym.
Is it tight?
Oh, it's to the point where it's tight enough
that when you actually breathe in enough
to let air in between the vest,
you can feel the cold air come in.
It doesn't have sleeves, though.
No, it's sleeveless.
If it had sleeves, you could mention it then.
Well, doesn't Reband make a warm shirt?
Oh.
I think they do.
Yeah.
Maybe I need one of those.
Okay, they have to have.
I'm like 90% sure I've seen a blue Rebann shirt.
You would almost want to go with the blue, too.
I have the blue warm pants.
I know they make the black, but if you have black, you almost can't tell.
Is that guy just wearing spandex?
I mean, they're maybe a little more modest, you could say.
You're not screaming to the world that you have them.
That you are wearing warm pants.
I could have sworn at one point I saw a –
I feel like we've looked at that even before.
I talked about it on a podcast years ago, literally at this point,
where they have –
I remember doing that.
In this ridiculous pose of whatever this is of this guy with these pants on,
with his one leg forward,
I feel like there is one of a guy with the shirt, too.
I just wish I could find it again.
And they probably don't even make it anymore.
It's one of those oddities.
I saw a funny meme about the reband warm pants.
You've never worn a pair, right?
I haven't, no.
I should just buy some just to get it over with.
And it was something,
I wish I could remember the meme exactly.
I'm pretty sure it was on World's Strongest Memes
was the account.
And it was something referencing the fact
of how when you wear those,
you spend almost your entire day pulling them back up
because they do like in the back.
I don't know if they're like fitted quite correctly
for actual like the shape of the human body.
Because they constantly are falling down.
And they have a drawstring, but not good elastic at the top of them to hold them up.
So they're leaving the market open for someone to come in with.
They should have reband suspenders to go along with the reband.
Yeah, I like that.
That'd be cool.
Real fashion piece.
Yes.
The other piece of equipment that I have that I actually picked up at the Arnold is the Frank Daddy.
The choker.
The choker wrist wraps.
Yeah.
You've got two pieces of equipment in one month?
Yeah.
I'm going nuts over here.
One month?
Yeah.
Going nuts over here.
And those are much more severe than my gangster wraps,
than my four-year-old gangster wraps that I'm used to.
Much, much, much stiffer.
So that's kind of a... When you got them, I had to put them on my wrist too.
I'm like, yep, these are nothing compared...
Because I have the short gangster wraps too.
Yeah.
And mine are also like three years old at this point.
Yeah.
So like between the length difference and then just the material difference,
it wasn't even like the same product.
No, it's not.
It's a completely different thing.
It's not.
Since then, I actually seem to have misplaced one of my choker.
You did?
Yeah, because I took them on a trip this weekend where I lifted,
and now since I've gotten back I cannot locate the other
one so that's not good no I'm not super pumped about that right now having purchased a product
and now a couple months late yeah yeah I think all hope isn't lost but I'm a little bit concerned
about what I'm going to do with just one choker wrist strap I would be concerned if I were you
yeah yeah they probably don't sell them in singles either.
Probably not.
I'll have to ask. You could probably get a word
in with someone to find out.
Wow. Not good.
So that's been my equipment purchasing.
That's pretty exciting.
I can say I've had equipment purchasing
lately. And you did get the shoes
a little while ago too.
It's been a pretty crazy year though. It been it has been a wild year lifting wow still like you you
slipped in there a pretty cheap even with as much stuff as i bought in the last year still pretty
cheap hobby compared to most yeah like almost any sport yeah you can't do almost any hobby for that
price even like you've talked about you bowl.
I bowl. I don't even really care.
I mean, I have fun bowling.
I'm on a men's league bowling team.
I don't even really care about it.
I don't know how many hundreds and hundreds of dollars I've spent
because when you bowl, you buy alcohol.
You can't hardly not.
No, I don't know if bowling would exist if it wasn't for alcohol even.
And I don't know how many hundreds of dollars I've spent even this it wasn't for alcohol even and i don't know how many
hundreds of dollars i've spent even this year on i mean even in tournaments and stuff i i now do
bowling tournaments i guess yep so it's like yeah if you're into golfing oh i don't think
like powerlifting or strongman could ever compare to the cost of golf or hunting yeah yes hunting
too put that up there anything anything with a motor of any kind fishing would be you
know any any uh boating activities you know like i like wakeboarding i have a wakeboarding boat
don't even talk about gas for that thing like that will blow any hobby you have on the water
yeah anything like anything with a motor yeah that will uh yeah that will occupy your wallet
for as long as you have it.
But it's fun while it goes.
That's true.
It's fun those two months of the year we have summer.
We are kind of like actually like some nice weather is on the horizon here finally.
Today was like 50.
Yeah.
And I had to like reevaluate like my perception of the world because it was weird.
Yeah.
There's still feet of
snow oh yeah everywhere but and i'm also lucky enough that i have a dog that's very hairy and
whenever he just he can just touch the grass and it's just like someone just sprayed mud at him and
i don't understand how that how that works so uh so do you have to wipe them down every time we
bring them back all right well last night we gave him a bath. And like today, I thought, damn, I did really good.
He went in the grass literally to take a shit.
He did so good.
And I'm like, oh, I should probably wipe his paws off.
And it's just mud stains are just smearing.
Like, where did this come from?
So I'm evaluating some different options right now.
But it's super annoying.
And it'll probably be like that for at least another month.
Yeah, yeah.
Do we?
Okay.
We have a few things,
personally,
people that we know
that have been popping up
on videos and memes online
and we've never talked about.
Like big time videos.
Yeah, yeah.
Not just like.
Not like, oh yeah,
that thing had a thousand people like it.
No, this is like things
that have been shared around a lot. Like of yeah and like pop up a lot uh
the first one should we talk about jonathan yeah okay so fellow massonomics um og supporter fan
lifter athlete um everything um jonathan oldham in bacon and beer bells Bacon and beer bells. Bacon and beer bells.
Holding it down in Diamond Cape Powerlifting in Alabama.
He, was it the Daytona 500?
Is that what it was?
I don't know that it was that.
Maybe it was, but it was a NASCAR event.
It was a NASCAR event.
And if you're on the internet at all, you've probably seen the video.
There's a guy, he's wearing jorts without a shirt on.
He's in, you know, he's in the stands at the race. The cars the cars are flying by and he has a beer can he's smashing it against his head and then he
just chugs it yeah i think so yeah i think that's the video yeah um and i think i've seen it on like
white people doing things and like i mean i've seen it like regularly pop up in my facebook like
it never dies and then he just and he i think he admits it too like yeah it just doesn't go away
and always keeps coming back and then just the other day was it him that had the video of it
yeah it was so rob dyrdek has ridiculousness on mtv didn't even know that was still a show
apparently it is um and they had his video and they were talking about it and just the fact that
it still is going around it's crazy
and it made it on mtv yeah that's better than we've done that's ridiculousness you know what
they say everyone's only six shades away from mtv ah it's not how the saying goes i think that's
what it is that's definitely what it is or is it kevin bacon maybe it's kevin bacon yeah rmtv i don't know what's the difference
it's something like that so yeah i don't i again have you ever been to a nascar race
tanner nope me neither no i've been to local dirt track racing that's that's about as crazy
and not recently we don't live in a part of the country that is uh really friendly to nascar races
no as in what's the
probably the closest one to us indianapolis motor is there maybe is there one in kansas city oh yeah
probably yeah but even that what's kansas city yeah it's not close yeah yeah we're so we just
miss out on all that culture yeah i do have a pretty pretty sick jeff gordon shirt though
yes you do and i don't know if i've ever gotten more compliments
on my a shirt just wearing it public than when i wore my jeff gordon shirt on holly i wore it on
halloween i went it's kind of like this redneck yeah and people were just like i just be walking
down the street people jeff gordon he's number one people really like this guy you know who his
sponsor is in that?
Is it DuPont?
I think it's DuPont, yeah.
It's like the – The chemical company.
Yeah, yeah.
It's like that multicolor thing.
It's like that red oval.
Yeah.
But then he had – does he have like Tide or something too?
I don't even know.
I don't think he does have Tide.
I think that's almost like a – that – you know, people think that there's a sequel uh to the like kazam people
think there's this like fallacy or it's some effect that people believe there was a sequel to
kazam called shazam that like shack starred in it with oh no it was okay so yeah you're right it is
just no but people think it's tied because because it just just rainbows out, which is really weird. Yeah. Oh, I didn't realize that.
No, I think that.
Oh, yeah, like the shirt right there.
It's so awesome.
Yeah.
The top of the shirt's red.
In the middle, it's yellow.
Then it has a green stripe, then a blue stripe.
Then it goes dark blue.
I mean, it's just like his racing jacket.
Yeah.
Man, NASCAR fashion is on a whole other level, though.
Yes.
Like the sponsor.
Like, just the.
You cannot. I mean. You can't pull that off but oh it's so awesome just the number of sponsors you can put
over something it's pretty impressive we should do that with some massonomic stuff just logo it
out like crazy do a uh do that jeff gordon dupont uh we need the Massonomics. Yeah. We need it badly.
That's a lot of good Jeff Gordon stuff.
This is really awesome.
Yeah.
So much style here.
Yeah.
Actually, this look is kind of coming back to you as the thing.
Oh, it's back.
Oh, it's back.
All right.
Yeah, they look funny.
Maybe a Massonomics one like that i did have who was uh
um the uh the classic is kind of like the nascar viagra jacket have you ever seen that one i don't think i have oh oh that does kind of look like i had a buddy that had one of those and it's like
that is like the classic jacket that you are just so
loud and proud about viagra just huge across the chest viagra with some with some numbers
with some numbers and checkered stripes around it it's pretty sweet outside of a joke like
people actually bought that stuff i mean if it's your favorite driver yeah mark martin
favorite driver i suppose you got to take them for the team and just confess your love for Viagra everywhere you go.
Ooh, now that one right there.
A Miller Lite one.
That one's pretty cool.
That one's getting pretty close to home.
I like that.
Wow.
Okay.
Well, I could probably talk about NASCAR jackets for a whole podcast episode.
So who was the other guy that made it?
Oh, yeah, that's what we were talking about.
John had his big moment in the sun.
So John had his big moment.
The other one, and we should post this so people can see.
Yeah.
Long-time Masonomics supporter.
He's been lifting with us for years.
Yeah.
Big Chris. Yeah. And Big Chris, was it after he graduated high school? massonomic supporter he's been lifting with us for years yeah uh big chris yeah and big chris uh
what was after he graduated high school joined the joined the national guard yeah he was active
army for i think four years so he's just kind of been gone yeah like he literally have not seen the
guy like at all and then just the other day um and big chris is big yeah yeah yeah and just the other day, and Big Chris is big. Yeah.
And just the other day, Ryan sent us a screenshot of a meme.
And it was, what's the?
Dash from Mr. Incredibles.
Yeah.
And it's like, remember Dash?
This is him now.
Yeah.
And Big Chris looks exactly like him.
Big Chris has blonde, slicked back hair, exactly like Dash's.
Yeah. And it's not just the hair.
No, he does look like him, yeah.
If you said make like a caricature 3D rendering of Chris, that's what you'd come up with.
And you'd be like, damn, that guy did really, really good.
And so like this was going around.
Like the screenshot that Ryan sent us.
Let me see if I can track this down super quick here.
Of what account that was on.
Yeah.
And I know Chris said that it's been on multiple. see if i can track this down super quick of what account that was on yeah and i know chris said
that it's been on multiple like he's gotten tagged in so many different accounts that have uh
you know from his friends that found it on different accounts that it shared
and one of them he said there was like a few hundred thousand comments on it yeah like the
screenshot ryan has is from grape juice boys which I know is a fairly big meme account. And it's Chris with his iPod on or with his earbuds in,
wearing a red animal shirt, like totally, you know,
like lifting being a bro and then a close up on Dash.
And it's the resemblance is uncanny.
So we'll have to like share that, post that again.
But yeah, he's back in town.
It's kind of the moral story. He's back at Massanomics Gym. He's back at Massanomics Gym, lifting for a while But yeah, he's back in town is kind of the moral of the story.
He's back at Massanomics Gym.
He's back at Massanomics Gym, lifting for a while.
I think he's going to move again here.
I asked him if he has gone through many of the comments to see if people are bashing him
or what people are saying, whether it's good or bad.
And he said, yeah, there's quite a variety of stuff in there.
That's kind of his personality.
Okay, so yeah, Grape Juice Boys has a million and a half followers.
He's been getting posted on.
I don't think his name is ever associated with it because no one knows who the hell he is.
Right, right.
It's really funny.
I couldn't imagine just randomly going on the internet one day and someone
sends just like a screenshot and it's like,
Oh,
just a picture of not even a picture of you doing anything embarrassing,
just a picture of you.
And it's like,
you're a meme now.
Or like you're a meme that is on account with like a million plus people.
Like,
and that's it.
Would you want to go through all the comments?
Like,
wouldn't you be curious?
Oh yeah.
At some point,
I mean,
you're just going to be like,
Oh,
there's too much here to process, yeah you're gonna want to read them
for a while yeah just see how dumb everyone is you know i mean for all i know i have a workaholics
one sitting out there that i've never well that's probably a realistic thing a lot of people probably
have memes of them that they don't even know we're out that's true someone uh came by at the arnold
by the booth thing and called you diet juimufu. And I liked that.
That was really funny.
What was the context of that?
Did he just yell at you as he was walking by, or did he stop and talk?
Oh, no, no.
Well, it wasn't the one guy.
He came running over.
He's like, oh, dude, I thought you were Jujimufu.
And I'm like, what the hell?
Why is there no line to see you?
And it's like, oh, sorry to let you down, man.
And then, yeah we did someone leave
the comment then like oh diet juju yeah yeah that's just who i am and i had never heard that
before like calling someone diet are you familiar the first time i ever heard that that's pretty
good yeah i mean i am thinner than him i Yep. But we are fairly similar inside of that in our love for the splits and tricking and acrobatics, you know.
That kind of led me to, I think I said it at the time, like if you could just learn like kind of half-ass learn splits and stuff, you could start doing it.
Just start the Instagram account, DietJuJuMufu.
And I just do a way shittier version of everything he does.
And just wait for his video to come out and just copy them exactly.
And just do the same thing.
I should probably do that.
That could actually be a thing.
That would be popular.
I would just about guarantee it.
I think it could be.
Well, if I'm not on the podcast next week, you guys know why.
You made it big as Diet Jujimufu.
Diet Jujimufu.
juji mufu so that's um kind of what the uh uh massonomics fans supporters homies have been up to in the world of memes and popping in there lately but the other thing we wanted to talk
about uh we have a new mass massonomics athlete we do and we like to use the word we like to use
the word athlete pretty loosely yeah because we always say we haven't came up.
We don't really like the word, but we haven't came up with a bigger, a better name for it yet.
All right.
You know, the word sponsored is also kind of weird.
Yeah, I don't know that.
It sounds like there's like obligations on people's ends or sponsorships.
And we don't really want to put obligations on ourselves or other people.
It's more like I guess the way it works is it's lifters that are.
Yeah, it's like you're kind of in the club.
Right, right.
And the ones we like to work with on that are guys that have actually been big supporters of what we do.
Like that's a big part of the criteria.
It's not, we're not just like, oh, that guy's strong.
Yeah, you have to
get it yeah right because we have a little bit of a unique thing in comparison to some other
uh brands out there where it's like yeah you got to kind of understand you got to be in on all the
stupid jokes and yeah if you don't like if that's not your thing then it's probably not the best
fit for right right right and there's other there's other companies if that's your yeah and then it's also cool on top of that that the guys are also
really strong yes yeah that's not that it's definitely not a requirement to be strong right
but it it helps yeah you know right we're talking about the gym to like say you know a thing or two
about going to the gym well and it makes it you know quite frankly on our end it makes it more
you know it makes it appealing for us if we there's guys
wearing our stuff that go do really cool stuff in the gym and you know yeah we always like to
see that it looks good for us that's exciting yeah yeah it's cool so new person
i was gonna say sir but that's more of like a british thing i don't know if there's a proper
like salutation for canadian people we had the biggest part of this is we went international like yeah we've expanded we're still okay we haven't said
the name yet but we we did go international we finally crossed our first international
international borders to uh the more northern part of north america yeah we didn't change
continents yet like you know with the time zone and things we haven't figured out how to do that
but i should explain the actual geography to you of where he lives i looked it up and i was like
oh that guy like he kind of lives in canada guess what and i did not like i hadn't you mean i mean i
should know this but like i hadn't really looked at the geography of this specific area close enough
do you know what u.s city he lives really close to really really
close to well i don't was he in calgary or where is he uh chatham uh ontario yeah ontario so
toronto is in ontario oh okay uh like detroit yeah really close like i didn't realize i didn't
know that detroit borders canada like essentially they're farther south than us. Yeah. Like our neighbors to the north in South Dakota.
Yeah, right, right.
I didn't know it was Ontario.
I never paid attention because, honestly, Canada is just one big mass to me.
So you could say anything.
But, all right, I got to – okay, so we didn't say yet.
Kyle Hendricks is the –
Big Kyle Hendricks.
Big Kyle, yeah.
That's the proper salutation.
Yeah, it's big, yeah.
Big Kyle is the newest uh
member uh team member of massonomics here and kyle i'm looking up where you live right now i
gotta i gotta get a visual for where this is actually at other than just canada uh oh wow
yeah i mean you practically live in a suburb of detroit yeah exactly well i'm like he's not very
far from columbus like oh we're in uh his drive to columbus versus ours whole different story
across the globe his is like a hop skip and a jump i mean he could hop on a quick little boat
ride and be in cleveland in no time what lake is uh like erie. Okay. Wow. Yeah. Really?
He is almost a suburb of Detroit.
That is just nothing.
Crazy.
But it is funny how he lives south of us.
Yeah.
It doesn't make any sense.
Even if you curve the longitudinal lines...
Even if you think the earth is curved around or something, it's still south of us.
Yeah.
Wow. Wow.
So what about Big Kyle there?
Yeah, so let's talk about Big Kyle.
Kyle, I'm just going to read kind of off his bio here quick on the website.
And you can check out all of our athletes on our website.
We have an athletes tab on there.
Yeah.
Kyle, he's been powerlifting for a little over seven years.
Did his first meet in 2012.
He totaled 13.89 in sleeves, and he'd only been training for about nine months before that,
which respectable total for a first meet.
Actually, I was surprised by this.
He had ACL reconstruction surgery from a football injury, and I thought, oh, Canada, football?
Are we talking soccer?
But it has to be football
yeah but also football in canada still didn't think that was really much i mean i know they
have the canadian football league but i i don't know do just high schools in canada have football
probably i don't know i but like i don't know maybe i bet if you live there you do like in
the suburb of detroit right yeah well and also i'm pretty sure kyle
posts everything in pounds when he posts his lifts yeah you know and there's just so much
culture i learned about here but um anyways with kyle though he has been competing drug tested his
entire career uh he approaches lifting with a this is this this is an interesting one kyle does
approach lifting with a calm demeanor like is an interesting one kyle does approach
lifting with a calm demeanor like big time it's uh lifts always seem pretty effortless and um
like he's he's not like chipping away at work his feet and throwing stuff and smashing his head
against the bar you know everyone's got to do what they got to do yeah it's cool to see someone
have a different take because this is definitely not how most people handle it right so that's
how he's especially moving the kind of weights that he's moving yeah okay so now talking
about his uh biggest total to date uh we said his first one was uh 1389 his biggest total 1989
you know a modest 600 pounds yeah um and that's with a 777 squat 474 bench and 760 deadlift
and um i don't know i think he's still getting stronger
yeah i think he's got a meet coming up here within the next uh couple months like he told
me the date and i just can't remember it now offhand and i wouldn't be surprised the way his
training has been going if he doesn't increase the you know if he doesn't break 2000 yeah i'd
almost be surprised not just i mean what he's doing is super impressive right now but if he
was like oh yeah i broke 2k i would be like yeah i mean the way you're going that i'm not gonna be
shocked to hear that like the reps of squats that he puts up and stuff and be like oh i did a set of
you know i did a set of eight with uh 680 pounds and then like later that week he's like oh i did
a set of six with 712. He's really, really strong.
Before we forget to say, his Instagram handle is khendrickspower.
Definitely follow him on there.
But that was kind of like the first time he popped up for us.
It was like, oh, this dude in Canada is wearing Masonomics stuff,
and he's really strong.
Well, do you remember the actual thing?
He ordered a Lyft shirt, and I think he was maybe going to be it was
before we had international shipping to canada oh and he was going to be in like detroit or something
like that and he had arranged it ahead of time he's like i'm going to be there in like two weeks
if i buy it from you now can you ship it to such and such address and i'll pick it up and he was
actually somewhere else in the states he was just like flying back through, I think, Detroit
and was going to grab it while he was there.
And we got it all worked out, and I hadn't come across him on Instagram before,
and then I eventually did.
I looked it up, and I was like, Tommy, remember that guy that we did all that
arranging to get that lift shirt to?
That dude was actually really know i saw some of his
lifts or something i was like you got to check him out he's really really strong yes and i want
to say i think it was about this time last year didn't he have a meet because i think i remember
watching the the college in town they were the ncaa championship and i think i remember during
that game or shortly after the game uh we were sitting around with some people and someone's
like dude look how strong this guy is wearing this Masonomic stuff.
And I was like, oh, shit.
Like, whoa, he is.
And I didn't know who he was.
And that was, like, the first time it really popped up on my radar.
Yeah.
But, yeah.
He won.
I'm pretty sure that last meet he did.
He won either a Texas deadlift bar or a Texas power bar or something.
That's a pretty cool prize.
That is pretty sweet.
I'd take that prize every day.
Yeah.
So, yeah.
What's his occupation?
Occupation.
Kyle is an arborist, and then it says foreman and bucket operator.
So, tree stuff?
Yeah.
He knows a thing or two about a tree.
Man.
That's going to come in handy for us when we have our next tree question.
You know, when we're sourcing materials for our next log,
our natural log we're going to build.
I wonder how he feels about log pressing.
He's probably like, I don't kill those trees for those logs.
They're stupid sports.
I have to assume it's something like that.
Yeah.
But, yeah, go follow Kyle at KHendrixPower.
And congrats, Kyle.yle yeah excited to have you on
the team welcome on the team yeah and then we could review that i don't know how much we've
ever talked about uh you know since we've we've had this athletes page up for i don't know what
do you think six months or something like that yeah and i don't know how much we've ever talked
about them but the the three guys that he joins here would probably be
worth mentioning too yeah uh the first one on the page and these are in no particular order
but uh the first one on the page is brad night moves night soul oh yeah and uh brad he i mean
we've known about brad for a while now he's been on the podcast three times been on the podcast
three times i mean he's up there with you with the most in history for someone to be a guest on the podcast.
And Brad is just constant progress.
He's been doing a lot of strongman lately.
A lot of strongman powerlifting.
But he's just continually, he's not getting hurt.
He's not taking time off.
He's just always, always working away in the
gym i think his biggest lifting thing so far is that he he pulled 900 pounds uh at the uh
at the south carolina yeah one of the carolinas like log press and deadlift championships yeah
i pulled 900 which i'm not sure if you know but that's still a pretty big lift nowadays yeah um
and i don't think that's gonna like be the – I don't think that's the cap either.
No, I don't think he's like, oh, finally, I'm done.
Yeah, I think there's more there.
So I'm really excited to see at the rate Brad's going,
what's going to happen in the next year or two.
Yeah, for sure.
Or even three or four even for that matter.
But, you know, we've had multiple podcasts with Brad.
If you want to know more about him, there's tons to listen to there.
He's out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
Yeah, he's out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
He's also going to be opening up his own chiropractor clinic pretty soon here.
He's got all types of exciting stuff going on in his life.
Brad, you can follow at kindofatkindostrong.
Good name.
Check him out.
Next on the list.
Big John. Big John.
Big John.
Jonathan Oldham from Alabama.
Birmingham, Alabama.
And fun fact, we kept calling him John at the Arnold.
Said, does anyone else call you John?
He's like, nope, you guys are the only ones that call me John.
So everyone else says Jonathan.
Oh.
But, you know, we kind of have that rapport built up.
Yeah.
But we just say things. I don says. Jonathan. Jonathan. Oh. But, you know, we kind of have that rapport built up. Yeah. But we just say things.
Yeah.
I don't.
Yeah.
Most people that have names Jonathan go by John, I think, around here at least.
I don't really even know many Jonathans, to be honest.
But Jonathan, he lifts that Diamond K.
You cannot follow Massanomics and not know who he is because they Diamond K.
The number of things that either one they repost
or they post and it's just like guys lifting out of their wearing masks yes you just you've probably
seen them if you're not aware of who they are like if you saw the video you'd be like oh yeah yeah
i've seen that one yeah so um but yeah their gym is just nuts down there like the number of guys
squatting 700 800 now is like getting completely out of hand yeah the number of guys squatting 700, 800 now is getting completely out of hand.
The number of guys deadlifting over 700.
In one gym.
Yeah, it's just like small.
You're not even really exceptional at that gym anymore.
It's like, okay, you're kind of like, all right, you're in the majority now.
Good job, man.
So it's getting pretty nuts down there.
But Jonathan, he, like, I don't know.
You probably couldn't say there's been more of an OG
Masonomics supporter than him.
Yeah, and no one that was, like, probably more passionate
about supporting us, you know?
No, he gets that title for sure.
Like, it's just.
He was kind of a, so that was kind of a no-brainer, you know.
Yeah.
And, you know, we finally got to meet these guys at the Arnold,
and that was super
awesome we're extremely disappointed to be like oh we've been talking to you online for how many
years now and we've just met for the first time so it's kind of crazy how like instagram can
actually kind of turn into like a thing of building like relationships and friendships
with people but and i know big john gets like just as excited about seeing us do well as we
get excited about it yeah those are awesome people to like yeah around like people that want to see
you succeed like same thing like we want to see him crush records and like what's good for the
goose is good for the gander exactly is that like an alabama scene or something it is they've got a
lot of geese and ganders there but no no, those guys are all awesome, Jonathan especially.
And he could almost start up a satellite importing massonomics business.
To Alabama.
Do bulk shipping rates.
Yeah, he starts up a second location down there.
Alabama is, we do ship a lot of massanomics goods to alabama
that is without a doubt and had he never come across our page that probably wouldn't be the
case i feel like he has i think that's safe to say yeah yeah um and jonathan uh his when we posted
this online his best meat lifts at the time were a 711 squat 374 bench and a 678 deadlift
i think all those have moved up by 50 to 100 pounds since
then he'll be competing also not not too long from now i don't know if that's in april or may
that they've got to meet coming up with a bunch of them we're competing in and yeah he'll completely
smash every one of those numbers i obviously like his lifts those are all training weights for him
now at this point yep so that'll, I'm excited for that one.
And in case you didn't catch it the first time, his Instagram handle,
you should definitely follow him.
It's at Bacon and Beer Bells.
So check him out.
Yep.
And then last on the list here, another guy we've talked about quite a bit.
Yep.
Mr. Unleash the weast chris weast and um
you know when you have one of the big biggest deadlifts of all time i don't even know like
how much more there is to say about that what's the fact there uh number two he has the second
biggest deadlift all time in the 308 pound weight class he only trails constantine constance to
or however you say that kk and uh he has his sights
on the all-time world record yes and i don't think that's i don't think that's unreachable
unreachable he actually did a meet where he attempted uh attempted that here not too long
back after the arnold he did a meet and he he did attempt that all-time world record deadlift didn't
get it uh but it's it almost would be unreasonable to think that he's not going to get it
at some point in time, I would say.
Short of him just quitting lifting.
Yeah, at that point, it's just basically him quitting or major injuries.
What's going to stop him?
Otherwise, there's no reason he won't get it.
Also, probably the only person in the history of the world
to do a pause 900 deadlift.
Yes. So he's got that on his resume and uh chris is much taller than your average power lifter he is
yeah he's probably six four six five yep right in that region yeah and a lot because he's one
of the few that is like taller than us yeah yeah it doesn't amongst the power lifters that rarely
happens uh but so i think people are shocked when they
like i remember john saying that at the arnold like oh my god he is huge you know and obviously
he's big muscular you know got enormous traps and everything too but being six four six five
amongst powerlifters is huge it is yep that's usually not powerlifter friendly uh heights
right um yeah he's making it work.
So that's kind of the – that's basically the Massanomics athletes.
And, you know, team, whatever, whatever you call them, the homies.
Yeah, the homies.
All good guys.
Make sure you follow them.
They're the real deal.
They're doing big stuff.
Yep.
And they help us.
You know, we help them out a little bit, and they get to help us out a little bit, and it works pretty cool for all of us, I think. I think so. Super cool. Yep. And they help us, you know, we, we help them out a little bit and they get to help us out a little bit.
And it works pretty cool for all of us.
I think,
I think so.
Super cool.
Yeah.
Um,
we're,
uh,
we're kind of getting down there on time.
Tanner at the 52 minute mark.
Snap.
But because this is the 156th episode,
we are going to do 156 minutes of airtime.
Yes.
Some of them might just be completely dead at the
the end of the actually the last hour is going to be us doing karaoke right that was my plan
uh we're kind of we don't have an extensive amount of segments to go through this week
but we do have the fan favorite favorite segment for sure so that's going to be exciting do you know what the fan favorite segment is um what's
in tanner sack that's also that's a good throwback uh for our three-year anniversary
segments of the past i did bring a sack item today it's already out of my sack
i was so excited i had to throw it out of my sack the second I got here. So, yeah, as a special throwback segment to the first-ever segment
that we ever used to have, maybe we need to bring it back.
It's hard to –
Well, your sack has some stuff.
Sometimes it's hard.
I emptied my sack so many weeks in a row that it just wasn't rejuvenating
more things in the sack.
But now you've had a long time to sit and fester on this thing.
For those of you that haven't been listening as long since the beginning,
what's in Tanner's sack was the original segment.
It was the segment.
Tanner was pretty good about putting something in his sack every week for us.
And then sharing it with you and Tyler every week.
So this is, I did bring it in.
Here's my empty sack.
I also bumped the control board here.
Hopefully you can still hear us.
Let me crinkle this in front of the,
that's also an important part of what's in Tanner's sack.
It's crinkling the sack.
To know that there was in fact a sack involved.
But this is what was in the sack here.
And what would you describe this as?
Old glory behind us here.
This is a
beautiful three foot by five foot navy blue flag with a giant a giant lift print on it yeah and uh
i mean though that word lift is probably what two and a half feet tall i mean there's no confusion
about what this is no you see it this hasn't been seen anywhere yet on our Instagram or anything.
So if you're hearing this, the one way for you to look at this right now would be to check this episode out on YouTube.
And you can see it here.
We've got it posted up on the wall right behind us here for this episode.
And it's pretty sweet.
They look good.
Yeah, it does look really good.
They look really good.
This is the biggest change to the Masonomics studio since it's been down here.
We replaced the backdrop.
And it does have four grommets in each corner.
So you could use this like a flag or you could use it more like a banner as we are doing at this point in time.
Which it looks good in a gym setting.
You need one of these.
Home gym, garage gym.
Even if you're kind of one of those rich people and, garage gym. Home gym. I mean, even if you have like,
if you're kind of those rich people
and you have like a mantle,
this would look really good above it.
This would be an excellent mantle.
It'd look really distinguished.
So these are now for sale.
You can go onto our website
and purchase one of these.
And you should.
Yes.
Yes.
It's our first flag.
It's our flagship flag
in the flag program. Everyone needs a flagship flag and we finally got one. It's our flagship flag in the flag program.
Everyone needs a flagship flag, and we finally got one.
It took three years, but we got one.
I think this was a home run, though.
Yeah, I like it a lot.
This Masonomics below the lift is also a la the sticker.
Just like the Masonomics black name sticker here.
Yeah, I like that.
I like the way that this Masonomics is.
Yeah, so definitely get one of those
and if you guys stick around until after over under we have a few more exciting announcements
for you so but probably get to after now that we're done with what's in tanner sack as a
tribute to our three years on the podcast to throw back to the first original segment
um now as another tribute to this three year we will go to the fan favorite segment, Underrated Overrated.
So, everyone knows the most important rule about Underrated or Overrated is the rules.
Because, I mean, it is a three-year anniversary.
The rules could be different this year.
In honor of the three-year anniversary, I did write out the rules more specifically.
So, now I can read the exact rules verbatim so that way it's
less ad-libbing like it i was worried that that was confusing people that i would change my wording
it turns into a game of telephone right and it's like well he did say this one time but i heard it
this way and it just gets out of hand so i'm going to read the exact rules okay as they are as of
today underrated overrated consists of lightning round questions
asked by myself to you tommy the questions come from a variety of topics including but not limited
to pop culture current events food and technology there are also lifting related topics sprinkled in
it's important to remember though that the questions are in fact lightning round but the
answers are not necessarily tommy has his druthers when it comes to the length of the answers.
You can answer as long or as short as you would like to.
That was really good.
So to recap, questions, lightning round, answers.
Druthers, I heard in there somewhere, too.
So to recap, druthers sprinkled in food and technology.
Yes, that's more what my takeaway from it was.
I did consciously use the word druthers because I think it's funny.
Still not really sure what that means for the rules, but I guess we'll wing it and see.
Yeah, so I think everyone knows.
Now there's clarity, though, that the rules are written.
Like, look at how long.
Yeah, they are.
They are there.
I think my dream with these rules is I'll keep expanding them.
They'll get longer.
Well, because there's always going to be someone that's going to exploit the rules.
What about this?
And you've got to have these situations covered.
So the rules are subject to change.
They'll never get shorter.
They'll only get get shorter in the event
a loon pole is exploited and i picture maybe even a full policy like with with that with an index at
the beginning where you can if you got questions about a certain area of the rules by law section
3a yeah yeah for the rules of underrated overrated okay underrated or overrated topic number one
ordering fajitas at a restaurant.
Okay, so the common knowledge is you have to know you're the asshole.
That's like, look at me with the fajitas.
That is the policy on fajitas.
Now, if you know, I mean, you might not know that, but that is the perception of everyone because everyone else knows that when you're ordering it so if you're aware of that rule it's what this is one of the ones that falls under the
classic classic situation of you have to know the rules to break the rules so if you're aware of
that rule and you want to knowingly break it i would say do so with caution it's all on you
you're going into this on your own but um i do not order fajitas at restaurants because what is
the if someone hasn't seen someone order fajitas it's an experience it's it's when they bring out
it's like they bring out you know like well it's like you know when the waiters bring out like
the huge i've never been a waiter i don't know what the hell like the serving tray you know
they come through with the 10 different plates on it like all right here you go everyone well
they bring out one of those just for you. And it's like going.
And it's crackling and steamy. It's like you get like four plates.
Yeah, like did they bring a hot plate out with it?
And so the whole thing is just like making this ruckus in the restaurant.
And because it's so enormous, everyone has to like duck their head and watch out for like your food.
It's like why can't they just put all that stuff together in the back?
Well, it wouldn't be fajitas then.
It would just be the other stuff. It would just be the other stuff on the menu.
It would just be the other stuff.
So, yeah, then you have your tortilla plate, like your toppings plate.
You have your meat plate.
You have them all together.
And then you kind of get to take up your whole section of the table.
Yeah, and if you're cool with that, I guess that's kind of a look at me move at a restaurant.
As far as restaurants go, it's a very look at me thing.
But at the end of the day, Mexican food is still the best.
Fajitas, overrated.
Okay.
Always have to end in a heart.
Put them in the stuff they go in and bring them out that way.
I'd say something I need to add to the rules for future,
and I'm thinking about it already. You can answer as long as you'd like but
at the end of it there does have to be a hard answer i mean and i i was torn but i knew what
i knew what the rules were so you knew but not everyone might not know that yeah there's no uh
beating around the bush we so one one time one of the topics was the penny and we had some
discussion about that.
Which leads me to our next topic.
Underrated or overrated?
The $10 bill.
That's the context of why this is a topic.
I think 10s are pretty underrated.
Get enough of those in a stack.
Got a lot of money on you.
I do like 20s more.
I would prefer a 20. The 10 seems to be kind of money on you. I always like an, I do like 20s more. I would prefer a 20.
The 10 seems to be kind of rare almost.
Yeah, well, because ATMs don't dish out 10s. Right, right, exactly.
Like 20s are just kind of the standard.
And 5s are more common because like.
So you know what, 20s, overrated because that's all ATMs dish out.
I remember the first time I went to an ATM and took out 200 bucks.
I thought, I'm going to get two $100 bills.
This is going to be awesome.
And I got 10 20s.
It's like, what the hell is this?
You don't see 50s ever.
Like that entire weekend at the Arnold, all of the cash that was exchanged,
that was more cash than I see ever because who carries cash on them
unless you're like a rich person.
And out of all of the money we got was there 250s in the stack
350 yeah that's probably it there's many more hundreds than that than there was way more
hundreds than 50s a lot of 20s of course yeah um tens tens are underrated yeah mostly the hundreds
i noticed there's a correlation to p between hundred dollar bills and people purchasing the
lift shorts yep and this is most of the people
would what's the old saying causation and correlation here there's a yeah they would
and it wasn't because they had like they'd take out their wallet it was like wow that is an
enormous wallet and it was just a hundred a hundred yeah and it's like they would lick their
yeah and they just slap it down the table like you got change for
one of these things they'd slap down they'd slap down their their stack of hundreds and be like
one pair of lift shorts please do you got change for these you ain't getting change
change where we're going you don't need change
yep um so yeah tens are underrated. Underrated or overrated, income tax returns.
Tis the season.
Tax is the worst.
And I don't do my own taxes, so I guess for me, from a mental capacity standpoint, it's really nothing.
I just send them.
Just have your information.
I give my stuff to someone, and they do my stuff, and then they tell me it's going to cost me this much.
They have your information.
I give my stuff to someone and they do my stuff and then they tell me it's going to cost me this much. But here is where you really, really – I worked a job.
Just like almost everyone in America, you work a job.
They take withholding, social security, all that stuff.
And you just, okay, I get paid this amount.
This is what I take home.
Whatever.
No big deal.
If I'm lucky in April or whatever, I'll get a tax return and we're all good.
deal. If I'm lucky in April or whatever, I'll get a tax return and we're all good. But when you are self-employed, I do think there's a valuable lesson here that would shock a lot of people.
And when you run your own business, self-employed, whatever, you pay taxes in on kind of your own
accord. Like it's, you don't have anyone saying, all right, give us that money. I mean, they're
there. Every time you collect a check, someone's like, hey, we need 15% of that.
It hits your bank account first, so you have it first.
Yeah.
And then you give it away.
It's your responsibility.
And it's definitely one of those things where money especially, you don't really miss what you never had.
You can say like, oh, it'd be cool to have that.
But you never had it in the first place, so you don't really miss it.
But when you have that money, and you might have it for a month or a couple months
or however long you waited to do your stuff,
and then when someone says,
all right, we need that back now,
and you're talking like many, many, many, many thousands,
it's weird to be like,
God, the government takes that much of my money?
And I'm not saying like I'm like this,
the government's evil
and I hate everything.
I get like it's necessary
for us to function
and like, yeah,
we need roads
and we need schools
and well, yeah.
I guess.
I guess, yeah.
Like I'm sure,
I'm happy to contribute to society,
but it's like frightening
the amount of money
that just you pay in.
It really is nuts.
And you know, now with tax tax time, I'm married now.
I'm literally talking to my accountant today like, oh, I never even crossed my mind that I'm married.
That kind of changes how you do your taxes, doesn't it?
Yes.
Yes, it does.
And I have no idea what that means.
They could be like, you owe us $10,000 or we're giving you $10,000.
And I'd be like, either one's probably right, I guess.
And that's Texas and America.
The other thing I would add to it is people that work –
a thing I hear a lot is people get a tax return.
They're getting money back and they're excited like,
ooh, I'm getting $2,000.
They're giving me $2, and which i it's a good feeling
when you do get money back and you know because it's nice to have money but the thing i sometimes
like to remind people that aren't aware they forget about it is that was your money yeah you
gave that to them and you're just getting like it's not like you gave them like don't free loan
don't praise them like you're like you're just getting some of your money back.
Yeah. You know, like.
Nope, they took too much of it.
And now they're kind of saying, sorry, here's it back.
Right, right.
We held on to it.
Yeah, because of your withholding selection or whatever.
But, like, that was money that you earned at your job.
You know, like.
And I guess you could say, like, you tricked yourself because you assumed you didn't have it.
Right.
And that is what actually a lot of people do.
And then, like, ah, it's a bonus. You. And then they're like, ah, it's a bonus.
People think it's a bonus.
What am I going to spend this bonus money on?
I was like, no, that was your money the whole time.
Yeah, right, right.
It's like, I know, your checks just got swiped for a lot.
Yes.
So what's the verdict?
What was the original question?
Income tax returns.
Oh, so overrated.
God, they're the worst.
Okay.
Underrated.
Oh, no, the return, though.
Is the return the money you get back?
In what I was saying, yes, the return the money you get back.
I mean, okay, sure.
It's more money.
I'll say it's underrated.
No, I'm saying it's overrated.
It's my money, and I want it now.
Exactly.
It's your money anyways.
It's your money, and you want it now.
J.G. Wentworth. Yeah want it now. JG Wentworth.
Yeah.
Call JG Wentworth.
What even is it?
1-877-CASH-NOW.
What is it, though?
Is it settlements and annuities?
If we think long enough, we'll have the entire script of the commercial.
Call JG Wentworth.
877-CASH-NOW.
I don't remember that part.
Your structured settlement or annuity.
I don't know what a structured settlement is.
I'm too stupid.
How many people is this affecting that have structured settlements that want to get that cash early?
Just so I understand what that is.
That's like, okay, you got in a lawsuit and they're paying damages to you.
Someone owes you money and it might be over the course of whatever period of time.
Yeah, I'd say that's a structured settlement, or an annuity is just where you're getting
a set amount of cash per month, and it's an annuity, so it's going on for a period of
time that you're always getting that set amount every month, but you want the lump sum.
And these guys are like, all right, it's just like the lottery.
You can take the lump sum and lose 50% of what you have right now.
Yeah, and I'm sure it's a terrible deal.
Because then they're taking the annuity then.
I'm sure they're getting the rights to the annuity.
They did have a bit of marketing genius there with,
it's my money and I want it now.
How old is that freaking stuff?
How old is that, it's my money and I want it now?
I have not seen that in so long.
Is there a person in America that wouldn't know what you're talking about if you say, it's my money, I want it now. I have not seen that in so long. Is there a person in America that wouldn't know what you're talking about if you say,
it's my money, I want it now?
Maybe people like that were born more recently.
Is that like 15 years old?
I think so.
I feel like I remember hearing that on Cartoon Network.
This network is marketed to people under the age of 10.
How many 10-year-olds have structured annuities?
Maybe they're just playing the long game.
They knew at some point this was all going to be free advertising on the
Massanomics podcast when their structured annuity talk comes out.
Wow.
But again, what was the original?
Agent tax returns.
The return being the money?
Yeah, the money's overrated.
Yeah, because I want it now. It's my money. I want it now. Under return being the money? Yeah, the money is overrated. Yeah, because I want it now.
It's my money.
I want it now.
Underrated or overrated?
Paddle boats.
Oh, paddle boats.
So a paddle boat, you know what I'm talking about.
Oh, yes.
Okay, so maybe if people don't know, maybe.
I think everyone does, but it's a little tiny boat you put in a lake.
It's usually made completely out of plastic, and you pedal like you're on kind of a stationary stationary bike but you're sitting and the bike's in front of you like a recumbent bike
yeah paddle boats in theory sound fun oh yeah until you've ever been in one yeah and uh yeah
it's like a recumbent bike position where you're pedaling ahead of you there's two seats you win a
person right next to you both have the pedals and you are driving the paddle in the back. And that's one of those things that I remember being a kid in the Midwest.
There's a lot of lakes around.
A lot of people had paddle boats.
And as a kid, you think, oh, paddle boats are so cool.
And the first time you get in a paddle boat, you're like, this is so not cool.
There's nothing cool about this at all.
It's a lot of work.
It's a lot of work. And do not know yeah it's a lot of
work and i don't know what's the top speed achieved in a paddle boat three miles an hour
and that's probably for a span of uh 30 seconds and then like oh like i i'm if i had to get
somewhere in a hurry i would definitely swim before paddle boating and i could swim incredibly
slow and beat a paddle boat like there's no way that's not happening right and they got to be
kind of expensive too oh i'm they can't cost less than 700 could they or you know don't know how they
could yeah i mean i mean like can you just that much fiberglass more than that and they're way
smaller yeah and these things have paddles in them so oh yeah paddle boats so bad if i ever
own a lake house no paddle boats someone probably made a lot of money off that invention.
And it's just, I bet when they're inventing it, they're just like the thought you have,
like, this is going to be so cool.
Like you just power it.
And they're probably like, God, they probably tried the first one.
Like, oh, this thing sucks.
Actually, this is really shitty.
And they probably don't know until they buy it or rent it.
We invested so much money into it.
Now we might as well release the damn thing.
And they just took off.
Yeah.
Yeah. Paddle boats. Don't do it. Overrated. All right. Last topic. Underrated or overrated. into it now we might as well release the damn thing and they just took off yeah yeah paddle
boats don't do it overrated all right last topic underrated or overrated lift flags lift flags
very underrated um uh you know i don't even know where to start with these things uh i mean one the
fact that it marked the return of tanner sack uh is in its own a bit of a hallmark moment for the podcast.
That is.
So fitting for 156.
It's such a just in-your-face, navy blue, white letters,
Massanomics logos, lift.
It just says it all.
It leaves nothing to doubt here.
I am going to get this up on a flagpole soon to get a video of it majestically flapping in the wind.
Yeah, it's going to look really good.
So, yeah, people need lift flags.
So lift flags, incredibly underrated.
Yes.
And I think this also is a good time to make our big announcement.
Yes, the big announcement that we saved for Episode 156, our three-year podcast anniversary.
And that is, we got some new product.
Lots of new, new.
And the first one,
so we've had several,
several different shirts,
lift shirt colors floating around.
There's been the great debate,
you know, obviously everyone has come to know
and love the blue lift shirt, but
there's been some gray ones out there, some ones out there there's even been some suggestions for other
colors yep um but we have gone a slightly different route with it and are happy to announce
that by the time you're hearing this um if you're one of the first listeners, you're not going to see it yet, but just days away from you hearing this,
the black on black Lyft shirt will be available.
And that I think is something that people,
that's something that people maybe didn't know they wanted,
but they need it.
We haven't laid our eyes on them yet.
We know what it's going to look like.
They are in route.
Yeah.
And they are going to be pretty sweet.
Because what do people always cry about?
Not having enough black shirts.
Because we're kind of the blue shirt boys.
The other booths are like, ah, you know, your blue shirt's over there.
Because everyone else has black.
Everything's black.
So the Lyft, our most iconic shirt in the black on black, is going to be pretty cool.
Yeah, it's going to be good.
Yeah.
Yep.
Same fit, same style of tee.
So, yeah, if you got the first one and you love it, I mean, this is going to be the same thing, but in black.
It was almost a light bulb moment when we thought, because we knew we wanted to do the lift shirt in another color.
The answer was in front of us the whole time.
Like we solved some crazy math equation at the moment. i'd never heard the suggestion once no in all of our years no
that there should be a black on black left shirt and i'm really excited for this thing yeah it's
gonna be sweet so yeah that's gonna be here any day now we'll get that up on the site right away
so you guys can get that thing um product number two couldn't say number three i mean because we
have the flag here yeah here's number one black on black left shirt number two but Couldn't say number three, I mean, because we have the flag here. Yeah, here's number one,
black on black left shirt number two,
number three.
But it'd be shirt number two,
product number three,
and that is the Deadlifter shirt.
Now, the Deadlifter shirt,
it is brand new.
Brand new design.
Brand new.
You know, we have the world famous bench shirt,
the best raw bench shirt in the world for squatting has made its reputation
on that yeah um you know we have shirts that tell the world you like to bench we have shirts that
tell the world you like to lift we have shirts that tell the world you like to curl that you
like massonomics um yeah buddy that that you like to scream things while you lift weights
and we needed a shirt for the deadlifter guys out there.
And, you know, deadlifting, you either got it or you don't.
And if you don't got it, this shirt might help you get it.
But the people that got it, you're going to want this shirt
so people know you got it.
And just be on the lookout for it.
It is also a black shirt.
It has a red and white print.
It doesn't have white on it, does it?
I can't even think of stuff.
Yeah, it has white on it.
Yeah, red, white, and gold.
And a little touch of gold.
Yeah.
And this is in line with our other products.
You're going to have to do the work and see the visual on it.
Yeah.
We can't do the exact description of justice.
If you follow us on Instagram, you'll get the visual on it yeah and you know if you can't do the exact description if you follow us on instagram you'll get the visual but uh and also it's probably always important that we're careful
of how we describe what we compare these shirts to an exact comparison you know you can use your
imagination figure it out but yeah check out that shirt the deadlifter that one's gonna be hot for
sure oh that's gonna be real hot yeah i think the black of black and deadlifter shirts i think kind
of goes together too yeah
that's a good mix for sure for sure so that was product number three shirt number two
um we do we have something a pairing to go along with that new shirt then also
the fourth thing is uh up to this point we've only had one koozie design it's been the
the koozie yeah the navy blue uh koozie with the lift logo on one side and the Massanomics...
Which we are getting very low on those things.
And when those things are gone, they are gone.
They are gone because we're not getting that style.
We're replacing it with this new style.
And the new style is the deadlifter koozie.
Yes.
It'll be a red koozie with the new deadlifter logo on one side and the Massanomics logo on the other side.
Yep.
And you're going to want to get those.
So, I mean, when you're getting all this other stuff,
you might as well just throw the koozie in the cart.
Oh, you'd be an idiot not to.
You'd be a pathetic loser not to do that.
It's your koozie, and you want it now.
That's not true.
I can see a meme with JG Wentworth.
No one will really remember.
It's my lift shorts.
I want them now. St remember it's my lift shorts i want them now
structured settlement for my lift shorts there's definitely something there
but uh uh yeah those lift koozies though those will be gone we're not doing more um i don't know
maybe in a few years maybe they might come back around, but can't bank on that. It could be a back-by-back of their mans. Can't bank on that in these trying times.
In this economy?
Yeah.
Maybe if we fall into some structured settlements or annuity, we'll come buy some extra cash to get some.
Maybe we can fleece some people out of their structured settlements and annuities.
But until then, they're just going to be gone.
So check those out.
All those products, they'll all be dropping.
There also is one.
We got another thing coming.
We got a couple more ideas in the works here.
But we're too far out to get anything away on those.
Just anything.
We got some other stuff out there.
So yeah.
Just keep being fans of us, and we'll keep giving you guys fun stuff.
So that's going to be our big April drop release unveiling,
whatever words we use for that that's going to be what we do that's our gift to you guys your gift to us can be buying all of
those things and what a gift it would be yes uh so do stay on the lookout for all of that by the
time you're hearing um hearing this episode later this
this very week most of that stuff will be coming out and live on the website the shirts are going
to be the huge items that we're going to see move quickly i believe so those if you're interested in
those shirts those new shirts do not wait on those don't sleep on them because that could be gone and
then it takes us a while to get those uh sizes back in inventory so if you want
those new ones hit them up quick also flags we have a relatively limited supply of this first
run of flags we want to see how this does so if you're interested in a flag this is pretty sweet
at a pretty sweet price point actually too so um don't don't wait on that either yeah well said
yeah that's it um subscribe to the podcast on youtube it's your way to look at
this lift flag first and foremost uh help us get to a thousand on there we're getting dangerously
close to a thousand it's gonna happen any one of these days now we're gonna hit that grand and
is that when they send you the silver play button yes yes uh i think it's the bronze one
you got to get to a 1500 to get the silver play button
because then you're in the top tier of of youtube content creators right like 10 year old kids that
have youtube channels we're getting we're getting close check out our website all the new stuff we
were talking about subscribe to our newsletter that's at the bottom of the page uh we do send
out other things that are related to new items that we're dropping maybe they'll even be
promotional offers offers in there we do have other new ideas that were in the works so you
might catch some of that and newsletters coming out in the future as well apple podcast give us
a review as we're seeing those uh numbers go up and that's really super cool and we read them on
the air yes we do
read we have and we'll read every review that uh shows up in apple podcast we will read that on the
air so that's your your chance at 15 to 20 seconds of fame on the massonomics podcast make sure you're
telling your friends about the massonomics podcast specifically if they're into lifting
and they're into us talking about lifting sometimes and sometimes not talking about lifting uh but let them know i think that
word of mouth thing is still probably the fastest way to grow our audience yeah for sure and that
means a lot to us when we do see the uh the numbers going up because we know that you guys
are getting the word out and that someone's finding this entertaining yeah and we need that
if we're going to try and do this for three more years oh man yeah i'm going to be an old man three
years from now so like at a certain point be like oh am i too old to be uh we're too old to be doing
a podcast about i mean you'll be talking about jg wentworth commercials and for sure no one then
will know what that means back in my day we wanted our cash now back my day, we had to call 1-800 numbers to get our cash now.
Most importantly, Instagram handles.
What do you got, Tommy?
At Tomahawk underscore D.
You were saying there's been a big spike there.
You know, I rarely post.
I've been trying to do it more because I've had a lot of people start to follow me this last month.
Yeah. So thanks for that, guys. Yeah. Thank you, guys to do it more because I've had a lot of people start to follow me this last month. Yeah.
So thanks for that, guys.
Yeah.
Thank you, guys.
But more importantly, you should follow Mastonomics.
Mastonomics, the official Mastonomics.
That's really the one that matters.
At Mastonomics.
If you're at your limit and you can only follow one account, definitely don't follow me.
Follow Mastonomics.
If you only have room for one.
If you have a hard line, don't waste it on me.
And also my secret one that you can check me out at a secret undisclosed location
if you really want to see
pictures of my children.
Or Tanner jumping off
or something.
Hey, they might want to see that.
Some certain one actually.
That's it for the big three years.
And that I believe marks
our first ever podcast hour and 21 minutes whoa
should i could turn this into a two-parter we can't make a habit of that it's also like
30 minutes past my bedtime yeah wow yeah i gotta get to bed stick around i'm not gonna be able to
enjoy my evening lacroix tonight because it's way too bad yeah you don't you'll be up all night
if you don't just chug that
thing and hop right into bed. If you get those bubbles in you
right before bedtime. It's not going to sit well
all night. You'll be up farting all night.
Well, I'm sacrificing that for you guys.
Stay tuned. Come back for episode
157. See if we can make it an hour and a half.
Woo! Alright.
Later. Alright, see ya.
You just
