Massenomics Podcast - Ep.169: What Counts as a World Record
Episode Date: July 1, 2019What and who actually decides if something "counts" as a world record or not? After discussing it, we still aren't sure if we know. We also discuss some big benching, and some overrated/underrated... controversy.

Welcome, everyone, to episode 169 of the Massanomics Podcast, the world's strongest podcast, the
lifting podcast about nothing.
Your two hosts are here again today.
If you don't know us, if this is your very first episode, tuning in with us on the Massanomics
Podcast, my name is Tanner and to my left is Tommy.
What's happening
guys do you think anyone is tuning in for the very first time ever right now i think there
might be at least one out there i bet there is the numbers have been climbing do say there is at
least one so that means someone someone is catching us that would be weird that's a weird
thought to me that someone is on episode 169 they just just heard about the Massanomics podcast.
And I can't like, I never think of it that way.
I just assume like at this point,
they've been in it a long time with us.
I picture all like the people that I kind of know
that always give us feedback.
And I picture those 50 people in my mind,
but we know it's many, many, many more people
than that listening.
Like they're battle ready people.
It's like they've been through the trenches with us.
They know how this goes. But hey, there are some new people so if you are new welcome yeah welcome
uh one point of uh discussion to start off we did get some feedback about the last episode
specifically about the over under segment did we yes i? Yes. I always liked that. And there was some criticism on you.
I'll read this to you, and you see how you take what you make of this.
I thought there was certainly some logic in this.
Yeah, I'm all game.
I'll just read what they said rather than explain it myself.
I would like to point out that tommy didn't follow his
own logic in underrated overrated if highly rated topics like the rock can't be underrated
since they're already basically at the top can hot dogs truly be overrated if they can't really
be rated any lower especially since tommy already rated them lower than all other grilled meats
i think a formal investigation is required that is pretty good see and what you know so i i felt
like yeah i don't know if he's necessarily guilty off the bat but an investigation is probably
required and i don't know your druthers could be at stake here my druthers are at stake um
i do feel like i have to go to
trial for this yeah uh you can see i could i could at least at the very least i could follow
his logic i do follow the logic on the on the hot dog one especially um and i'm i i cut his name off
here so i don't remember that so sorry you know who you're out there you're listening i'm sure
uh and credit goes to you for this you do do really have me thinking. Because the part that really gets me is that you did say in there that it is, you know,
we kind of unanimously said it's the worst of the grilled meats.
Well, and that was my opinion.
Right.
It's not unanimous.
See, that is what makes it a little trickier is that unanimously, like, The Rock is kind
of the action hero,
and he's at the top of all lists.
If people make lists of, like, the best barbecue
or the best foods to cook on the grill this Fourth of July,
hot dogs probably aren't going to be on the bottom of that.
They're probably going to be towards the top of, like,
oh, yeah, you've got to have the hot dogs, you've got to have the burgers.
If you feel like getting crazy, get the brats.
That was more, I mean, I probably totally sound like I'm backtracking right now,
backpedaling, but that's more of my thought process.
I don't catch a lot of people having hate for hot dogs.
But in my mind, I think my bias was already slipping into that.
In my mind, hot dogs are already overrated.
So I was just saying they're overrated.
But I'm glad someone's listening that close.
That's an interesting interpretation
they kind of are going with what i said yeah they're they it's almost like you get it brings
these topics on me in the heat of the moment i gotta just decide right then and there it's
exactly like that and uh truth be told you know we have had these topics like the rock and joe
rogan and stuff where where they've been've been – I purposely picked these ones that are very highly rated.
It's like, oh, let's pick something really that people don't like.
It's like, well – or something that people don't care about.
It's like that thing isn't that hard to do.
It's like you pick things that have universal praise and then say is it underrated.
That's harder to form an opinion on.
It's not the opinion as to whether you like it or not.
It's whether it's overrated or underrated.
Right.
That's where most people
get hung up on
the incorrect process.
And that is tricky though
is separating them out between
and that's where the hot dog one
really does get tricky
is separating out between
do you like it
and not like it
and then separate that from
is it overrated
or underrated.
Yeah, right.
And my thought process
on hot dogs was
I mean I like hot dogs.
They're good.
But I just
they're so low on the
list of what i want uh-huh that that's why and yet some people still are rating them relatively high
oh they were uh i think they're underrated right i looked at which kind of surprised me yeah um
um but i have been in the past there's probably been more of the those in there like the rock
and stuff that are universally pretty highly rated
just kind of universally well yeah so i've tried been trying to mix in more that are um i've been
trying to think of some that are a little on the flip side of the spectrum and that's where like
hot dogs and nickelback came in uh this last episode but yeah those were those were tough
ones for me i did have to think for a while about that.
But yeah, I'm glad whoever that was,
I'm glad they,
I'm not afraid to be called out on things.
So I'm glad that they are listening that hard.
That's good.
That's, I mean,
I got to give you high praise there, man. Right, right.
But we will get to more overrated, underrated later.
So yeah, we can see how well my logic holds up
here is it what is it to you is it overrated underrated or is it underrated overrated
was it over under under over is that what you yeah i think it's over under isn't it
i don't even know what does it say right okay do what you just said right there yeah now that you
said that i will never know for sure and i always think twice and this is the other one i might have said this before that always makes me think twice in the car
is it a if you want to keep your butt warm is it a heat seater or a seat heater that's a seat heater
yeah but once you say heat seater yeah it messes up your brain and so i always say heat seater just
to like mess with my wife but uh and then she doesn't know the right word.
She's like, well, what is it?
You're mixing me up.
So that's another one that you can do that with.
Oh, what were you just saying?
Look at what?
Oh, I just wondered how it's written right there in our show. We have underrated or overrated in the official show notes.
Okay.
So that's the show notes, which is kind of like the Bible of Masonomics.
Yeah.
It is.
That's what that is. which is kind of like the Bible of massonomics. Yeah. That is. That's what that is.
That is exactly what that is.
Tanner, I think we need to check in with how the hashtag road to recovery is coming over there.
Pretty good.
I mean, you have less and less robot pieces on you every week.
Yeah, I've kind of ditched the crutches altogether.
You've gone from two crutches to one crutches to a knee brace.
Now I'm kind of, I don't know if i'm authorized i'm off the brace the brace is gone the brace at this point is
really just a protective measure from like doing something stupid it's almost would be like a
reminder to just be like oh yeah remember you're not supposed to, because it's feeling better enough
that I could almost do something stupid if I wasn't thinking about it. Right. Right. But it
is feeling a lot better. Uh, it gets, once it's warmed up and loosened up, I can walk almost
noticeably. You know, if I think about it hard, you could, if you were watching, you probably
wouldn't notice that I have a limp, but like when I get up from here sitting here for a couple hours, it's going to be really stiff.
And, you know, it'll take me a little while to get moving normally.
But physical therapy three days a week.
And today was the first day where I was getting to be able to do enough that I was even working up a sweat at physical therapy.
Where I was like, damn, this is like.
And then I went to lift later today.
So I was like.
My second one. Yeah. That's like two a days this is like, and then I went to lift later today, so I was like. My second one.
Yeah, that's like two a days.
Two a days, yeah.
Have they let you do an AMRAP yet on the chest press machine?
No, I'm.
What are they waiting for?
Yeah, that's what I was, I keep wanting to do the chest press machine because it's just sitting there and.
Just teasing you.
Yeah, I'd be like, let's put that pin all the way to the bottom.
Let's see what we got here.
Like, let's put that pin all the way to the bottom.
Let's see what we got here.
What I do, this is probably maybe the most interesting part about physical therapy.
And I'd be curious to hear other people's takes on this because I don't know what my opinion is yet. But what they have me do a lot of is BFR, blood flow restriction, in that leg.
And they have the actual machine.
I'm sure it costs many thousand dollars that has a display
screen on it and the it has an air tube hose that runs to the so they're not just putting a cuff on
no like let's clamp this down and take it off after 20 seconds what it does the way it works
is it's this cuff that goes around the very top of my leg kind of like a giant blood pressure
yeah yep just like that and uh it's got the display so so the way the machine works is it
first cuts you off all the way to 100 to find out where that where that is and the display actually
shows a picture of like your uh blood just disappears yeah yeah yeah you know just that's
how it it shows it uh by a picture
that way of it getting smaller and smaller and smaller and they find out where 100 is
and then it cuts it back to 80 and 80 is where you train at okay so it is much more submaximal
training i believe is the ah yes uh so and i think the way that 80 works is it's cutting off um
a hundred percent of the blood that would be coming back out of your leg but it's only and
it's cutting off 80 of the blood that would be going into your leg so blood blood is continually
going into your leg but none is coming back out so uh there's a lot of blood in my
injured area while i'm training yeah more than normal interesting and i think uh they can only
leave it on there for like eight minutes so i have like eight minutes i'm taking it to the limit
no it oh my god yes really so i don't so what I don't know if it's, I guess the research, there's research that exists that shows that there's more hypertrophy effect with using less weight if you're doing blood flow restriction training.
You can use less weight and get more hypertrophy out of it under BFR conditions.
That would be the research that supports it. and get more hypertrophy out of it under BFR conditions.
That would be the research that supports it.
I would almost be willing to bet there's people out there that would say that it's...
Yeah, and I don't know what's true.
I'm sure people listening have their own opinion on that.
You're not going to take days and days to research it?
No, and I've done it for a few weeks, and I have no idea.
I have absolutely no idea, but what I do know is that it hurts it does actually hurt it hurts yeah uh it's not like i don't know if it was like it was just
you're feeling the burn or if it like it hurts uh it hurts by the end of it especially like when it
when you're done and it loosens up it's like oh just yes yes yeah my leg gets like noticeably purple while it's uh going on wow
yeah so i don't know if it's be curious to hear what other people's opinions are on that i've
never really done a whole lot of research on it i've never done it have you ever done any
bfr in the gym we have you know we have some tourniquets and stuff in the gym and they with
the physical therapists when they brought it out
they're like oh do you know about uh blood flow restriction training and i you know they know that
we have the gym and kind of know a little bit about that and what we do what we do there your
reputation i don't think it was no that that was good or beneficial for anyway but i said yeah we
have some tourniquets there and you know they kind of laughed at that
they have this machine that i assume costs one you know fifty thousand dollars more than everything
yeah right um but yeah so that's what i'm doing you know and i actually did some leg press today
with that on how do you feel about their leg press machine it's good for the purpose that i need to be using that in a gym not it wouldn't exist in our gym
it would exist in a commercial gym for sure it would be just like what you would see and
but it's it's uh selectorized you know it's a pin stack and it is horizontal where you're
sitting like you're sitting in that chair right there only lean back slightly but they call it like more of like a recumbent type position that that's what i would
i don't know if that yeah that's what i would think like a recumbent bike yep yep yep yep um
but to take that back it wouldn't be a terrible piece in our gym but it wouldn't be my it probably
wouldn't get used a ton it wouldn't be you know we probably wouldn't get used a ton. It wouldn't be, you know, we actually,
we just bought a,
you know,
mass dynamics gym is just getting a leg press right now.
And what we got is a,
uh,
Cybex 45 degree plate loaded leg press.
It's probably kind of the one that people think of when they think of a
leg.
Yeah.
I think it's a pretty,
it's a common one.
It's a very,
very good quality one.
And for a gym like ours,
I would much rather have that.
Yeah. A it's plate
loaded it has a certain look and i like the idea of the the gravity of the weight is what causes
the resistance yes you know that's just superior to me so and you look at way more equipment than
i ever do yeah does anyone like rogue or any of those, do any of them make a leg press? Elite FTS makes the leg.
They make a few different models, but they make the leg press to end all leg presses.
If we had an unlimited budget.
I got to do a quick one.
Yeah, you got to look up the price.
I'm going to say it's $6,000, and it is monstrous.
And it has a.
Is it the Monster Mondo leg press?
That's probably what it's called
yes yes yeah i was close i said six thousand sixty four hundred and it you see it has separate
the you can move the left leg and right leg independently but that thing is wide that
picture doesn't do it justice the size of what that thing actually is give me more pictures here
yeah it's uh it's pretty yeah yeah um if we like i said if we had an unlimited
budget completely over designed yeah which is great yeah if you're in the market for one that
would be the leg press we would own if uh if money was no object but that leg press alone would cost
uh at least a fourth of everything that we have in our gym does look pretty yeah no doubt about that what rogue makes i'm not sure but okay
okay yeah wow yeah the actual photo yeah using it yeah it's that's damn it's enormous that thing is
like it looks like he's on like a giant love seat yeah laying down like that's not a chair like that
is a you could fit a very very large man in that thing i that thing. I've never used one of those in person.
I've never seen one in person at a gym that I'm at.
I mean, not a lot of gyms probably are selling out $6,000 for a leg press.
Wow.
They even have a little video here for it.
I mean, it does take a forklift to get it off of a truck, obviously.
The nice thing about Elite F fts equipment when it comes you
know we bought a few benches from them they basically come fully assembled on a pallet
there's maybe a little bit of assembling to do but it's not i i can't speak for that leg press
specifically but uh it's very little work to do because most of it's welded together like i don't
think they want a lot of uh uh together. Yeah, versus like Rogue.
I mean, you kind of are putting most of that stuff together.
Rogue or even more so Titan is definitely going to be much more bolted together.
Which they have to do for their shipping.
Yeah, for their free shipping.
Was there some Titan boxes that came in today?
Yeah, we got some other equipment, too.
Nothing all that glamorous, exciting.
Just medicine balls, medicine ball rack.
And then their, I think it's a Monster Storage Rack,
and it's used for storing dumbbells and kettlebells and stuff.
Okay.
I saw those boxes.
Yeah.
I was wondering if there was some exciting toy I missed out on.
Those are still nice things for the gym to have.
Yeah.
It's just things.
Some of the essentials.
Right.
Right.
I've been working on kind of decluttering,
getting some things that have been sitting on the floor in the gym for years,
like getting them off of the gym floor.
Yeah, it's always a nice addition.
I recently did the peg hooks for the cable attachments.
You don't realize most people, you know, most gyms have this.
Think about it like next time you're in the gym, you know, any of your cable like crossover type machines.
If you're in a decent gym, chances are there's a lot of different attachments for those things.
And we just had one massive bucket with them all in it.
Whichever one you want, you like.
It was like, you just hope that when you want it was on top.
Otherwise you're like, no, I'll just use what's on there.
I'll just skip it.
And you put up like a pegboard kind of like you'd see on a workbench and hung all of them.
It's like, damn, we actually have a lot of attachments there.
Why do we have so many?
Some of those I didn't know we had because they've been buried for so long.
I didn't.
Almost none of those did I individually buy.
They all came when I bought cable crossover and lat pulldown.
There's just like
attachments everywhere bring to the gym yeah uh but we interesting point about that one of the
gym members i think it transpired because they saw all the attachments on the wall they put in
a request for something an attachment that they want and i'll show you this see if you've ever
seen this before well i was like oh geez that that is an attachment that we don't have it's called the troy supra bar cable curl attachment and i don't know if you can tell
by the picture but the handle like yeah the handles rotate within there so that you could say do a
tricep press down and like extend out yeah you can rotate your full range yeah locked in in one
dimension so hard and i thought that was intriguing so i think i'll probably order that and it's fairly cheap as far as stuff
goes right and i just like to have all the toys the things yeah i like to have the things
yeah i like it that's cool yeah so that's the gym news that's the gym for all the
listeners that want for all the first time listeners out there um you know if you haven't
if this is your first time listening or if you do listen regularly,
we talked almost about lifting the entire time last week,
so we have to make up for that this week by talking about lifting almost not at all.
It's tough because the gym is a little bit borderline if we're talking about lifting or not.
It's at least not talking about general public pop culture lifting.
So we're at least avoiding that to a degree.
We're sticking to our corner of the road here.
We could talk about the other exciting news regarding the podcast.
Yes, we're on 169.
We are on 169.
We have a lot of 69 jokes planned.
Just wait.
We'll save it for the end.
jokes planned just wait we'll uh save it for the end um but uh this for the for the watchers of the podcast this will be the last ever episode in this right here in the podcast this is done
i guess we're at 169 we're done now actually the podcast is moving and why well uh first of all how
long do you think the podcast has been here now? How many episodes?
I looked, was it around, I think like last August or September?
Would you think like 120 or?
It's something like that.
Teens maybe?
Yeah, because we're getting, I think we're around like 40-ish episodes here.
Yeah, so a little less than a year.
Yeah, we are a little less than a year.
It was like last September or fall-h when we started doing them here yeah so why is the podcast uh relocating
so uh i am moving to a different house uh you know it's selling off lift shorts i guess
you know you know the old saying lift short cash you know the old saying sell a pair of shorts and
a man eats for a day sell a pair of lift shorts and a man eats for life.
And a man gets a new house.
And I guess we sold enough lift shorts so I can get –
but no, really the lift shorts have nothing to do with it.
It's due –
Unfortunately.
We wish that we actually were –
I really do wish the lift shorts –
I really wish I could truthfully say the lift shorts had an impact on me.
Someday.
Getting a different house.
But unfortunately, no.
It's just because of actual career opportunities.
Unfortunately, that's still basically just a joke at this point.
It still is, sadly.
Someday, hopefully, I can laugh and say, you think I'm joking.
My wife and I are moving to a new house.
And so with that, we will have a different
podcast studio where it's at i don't know what it will look like i don't know but we'll find out in
a week i guess will there be room for the uh i mean really all that matters is we have a table
uh two microphones and a lift leg i think is really all it comes down to so that's right
and that bowling ball yeah you can't see but uh directly behind
the camera is just a pile of shit uh we have snowboarding boots a couple cases of beer
um cds cds used to be a thing um what and then it's like do i throw them out or just do we hang
on to these for the next 50 years like i bought cds for a long time yeah and uh like yeah i don't
know do i keep those get rid of them?
Like, I thought we got snowboarding boots, stereos.
Yeah, we got some of those old stereos.
Yeah, some odd pieces of furniture.
DVD players, another thing that's, like.
Well, actually, while I was cleaning up, I found two DVD players and a Blu-ray player.
And part of me was, like, I don't need any of these.
But then I thought about i'm
like you know what there might be i don't know when that day would be but there might be a day
when i want to play a blu-ray i don't have a ps4 so i'll hang on to the blu-ray player dvd players
all no point for you existing ever at this you know a lot of people don't realize this either
tanner so you know when you're streaming from netflix you're watching stuff in hd
blu-rays are not blu-rays dvds are only playing at like 480p so they're not playing
at hd quality so already i mean do you even want to see the pixels when you're looking at this stuff
you got to keep that in mind right there's a certain level of quality you gotta i don't have
the problem because our television is only like 25 inches across so it can't get pixelated that is have you ever seen
how small our television is it is somewhat small yeah it's almost like a point of pride up like
we could certainly go out and purchase a larger television if we wanted to especially this day
yeah they don't cost anything like that was one of the things like well we're moving into a house
we'll have like another kind of like living area like maybe we'll put another tv i'm like i haven't i haven't bought a tv for like six years i don't even and
until then i'm not in the market i'm gonna waste my time seeing what they cost and now i'm looking
at my god tvs are really cheap like like who's making money in this whole thing so yeah tanner
you are definitely just just i bought in 2007 so that's 12 years ago.
Over a decade.
I bought a 50-inch Sony television.
And I'm sure you paid a lot of money for that.
Yeah, guess how much it cost.
50-inch in 2007, I would say that was probably at least $1,500.
Yeah, it was $2,000.
Yeah, yeah.
$2,000.
I mean, I still have it.
It's a flat screen.
It's a project.
See, it's been so long since I've ever even turned this TV on that I can't.
Was it like a rear projection, actually?
It's a, yeah, it's not flat.
The front is, the screen is flat.
But it has depth to it.
Yeah, it's two feet deep.
It's heavy.
You must have caught the last end of that wave.
But it is a, it's still, even now, I think it's a relatively good picture because of the type that it is.
And I can't remember what it's called.
Probably the bigger thing would just be the definition level.
Yeah, right.
It's like maybe 720p probably.
I think that is what it is probably.
I don't think it was 1080 yet.
Because even like I bought.
But it was $2,000.
That's my point.
And now you can go buy a 50-inch for like two hundred dollars if you wanted i mean if you're that's
better if you're gonna spend two thousand dollars on a tv you are definitely can you even you can
but you're in the premiere like a curved uh with light well ambient light it's more the difference
of like you can go to walmart and there's a lot of tvs you can get at walmart for under a thousand
bucks pretty much any tv but if you go to Best Buy, like they carry some like the really high end, like Samsung.
But what does it even do?
At that point you're just looking at black or blacks,
like better color, like better color saturation,
like more accurate color representation.
I don't even really know because I'm not in the market to buy one of those.
So, and then on top of that, you're looking at a massive size too, you know?
Right. Yeah. I mean, it's probably like 70 or 80 inches to get that right.
I would think probably, yeah, 75, 80.
Yeah.
Well, TVs.
Yeah.
But so you're moving.
Oh, yeah.
That's right.
Like within a week?
Yeah, actually this weekend.
Yeah.
So the next time we record.
Yeah.
A week from now, we will be in a different studio.
Moving is fun, right?
Like for anyone that hasn't done it.
Yeah.
If you haven't moved recently, the one, okay okay the one good thing about moving is that it's a great way to purge
your shit like that's yeah that's and i i'm all for having less stuff um and so it's been a really
good opportunity to just get rid of a lot of things and actually that's kind of been a slow
and steady process over the last year or so it's just being like ah why do we have this get rid of it get rid of it get rid of it yeah and uh
now you're actually like kind of seeing like oh like all that stuff we got rid of it's making
packing fairly easy now yeah but uh i guess the other side of it is we'll move into a bigger house
and we'll just have nothing to put in it so that's good too i guess yeah but you'll presumably be
there for a long time so it like will just slowly take care of itself again.
That's usually how the accumulation of stuff goes, is it takes care of itself.
It does.
Trust me.
I mean, I don't even have kids yet.
So, Tanner, I'm sure you can test to a whole different level of this.
Kids very much help the process of accumulating stuff, believe me.
Things just show up that you don't even know.
You don't even know. Whose is this? Yeah, not exagger up that you don't even know you don't
even know whose is this yeah no not uh exaggerating you don't know how it got there you're like why
where do we have this and then things you you want to find you you say i know i have this where is it
where is it at yeah i've already been doing a little bit of that i'm sure it'll only get worse
once we start moving and trying to figure out where it all went.
So, yeah, I guess if you don't watch the video podcast,
maybe check in next week, see what it looks like,
and maybe even the following week, see if we can get that studio.
Maybe we'll bedazzle out the studio a little bit, Tanner,
really get it to that next level.
Yeah, we are talking about bedazzling the gym a little bit,
some new decor at the gym.
Something to watch out for.
I think there'll be a pretty cool look to it.
There's some visual upgrade plans coming, so
stay tuned. They'll be here sometime.
Talking about flags,
we were talking about our lift flag here, which you can
see directly behind us, but
are we telling people yet that we have another flag?
We very quietly dropped it because there will be more coming.
But, yeah, we can hint at it.
If you're one of those few people that doesn't hop on the Mastanomics store every day

If you don't have that saved as your homepage.
I know most people, yeah, they open up Chrome and it just defaults to the Mastanomics store.
Don't they call that the front page of the internet?
I think some people have said,
especially in the fitness circles,
that the Massanomics store is the front page of the internet.
We took that title from Reddit.
Yeah, so in case you haven't very carefully
browsed that section lately,
about halfway down, we did add a new flag.
Yeah, we did it to them.
We did do it to them, and I like it.
It's a flag you're going to want to buy.
Yeah.
How detailed do we want to go on this?
Maybe we should still maybe keep it kind of a surprise.
We could because this will come out in a week.
So our companion products won't be along with it yet.
So we maybe want to drop that one.
We'll just say this.
There is a product on there right now that you can get and there will be some companion
pieces coming yeah um i think i think people are gonna like them yeah actually i would be i would
actually be i would go as far as say this i would be shocked if people didn't like yeah definitely
a little different than other things we've done before but also in our wheelhouse yeah yeah
you guys know what to expect of us so it's uh
you shouldn't be surprised you might be like oh okay they're maybe not as dumb as we thought
or actually you might say yeah they are as dumb as yeah oh that's just what we suspected actually
it could go a lot of ways for yeah check that out though take a deep dive into the store it's not
towards the top you're gonna have to dig a little bit.
Dig a little bit to find it.
It's one of those Easter eggs.
Yeah, it is like an Easter egg right now.
So we did discuss the birth of a new thing, the new studio.
And with that, we must discuss the death of another thing.
Yes.
And that is the Masonomics Strongman Showdown.
Ah, that's right.
I forgot where we were going with that.
At least temporarily. It's at least temporarily at least uh as of as of life support say because we have not a ton of people not a ton of people
know but people that pay attention do know that uh massonomics for the past three years we have
hosted a uh you could call it kind of an exhibition strongman competition yep that has grown to be a
relatively large competition. A thousand.
Yeah, a thousand or more competitors last year.
Depending on the year, anywhere from 300 to 1,000 spectators.
It just kept growing year after year for us.
We've given out some pretty significant cash prizes.
Yep, cash prizes, trophies.
We have an emcee, a soundtrack.
It has really grown to be over-the-top production almost.
Yeah, and our idea with this was always like,
okay, if we're going to host a Strymon competition,
we want it to be almost more of like a WWE promotion than a competition.
And that's really what I think we're probably pretty successful at that.
I think that's what it has been.
And traditionally this has been and
traditionally this has been uh just the way it's always worked in the past is um we the county fair
where we live is the biggest fair in the state yeah and so it's work that that generates a large
crowd and so we've kind of always piggybacked off of that and that's always been held about the
middle of august this year though due to some scheduling
things some changes with the lineup of how the uh the fair staff wanted things it didn't work out
best for you know for us for our competitors for the spectators it just didn't really work
out best for anyone for our vision and what we know is best for the competition
some of the things that yeah it didn't align and we're not of the
idea that we want to put something on and be like ah we kind of have i would be very disappointed
if we went and did something every we've done it three years every year has been at least in most
ways better than the prior year yeah it's grown and gotten to be cooler and cooler and cooler and
almost double of what the previous year was and i don't want to do it and have it go backwards whatsoever.
That would be really disappointing for me.
Even just like, well, it was about.
It was still pretty good.
That would even be kind of, eh.
We want it to be like, wow, these guys really don't know how they do it,
but somehow they always pull it off.
Right.
And, yeah, we weren't in a situation to quite capitalize on that.
And so, yeah, we have had a lot of people asking,
what's the status on this?
We haven't – because usually around now,
we're kind of starting to talk about it a little bit or tease it a little bit.
And getting –
Athletes ready.
Yeah, athletes ready.
Sponsors.
Well, because that's the big thing.
Like, over the last year especially, we really expanded the athlete pool.
Last year, we made it a team competition and had 20 people
and really got some of the region's, you know, top amateur strongmen involved.
I mean, people that placed first and second in nationals.
Nationals.
You know, very competitive national level amateur competitors.
And I think this year, you know, had we done it this year,
that would have only even grown too.
I think that's a safe assumption.
We talked with actually some people that have competed at World's Strongest Man before that very well could have been competing this year.
And we still could maybe arrange that in future years.
So I guess that was kind of maybe our message or our thought process on this was just because it's done this year and not happening doesn't mean it's again and that's you know all this stuff that's not nope it's now or never right it's just this
year the way things aligned it wasn't in anyone's best interest but maybe we'll be lucky and things
will work out and next year will be a better year we still would have good ideas and and be able to
put if if things work out better we'd be able to put something together that's really cool i think
again and i know there's going to be some of the competitors that are going to be really
disappointed yeah yeah a lot of people a lot of them have been asking yeah and saying it was the
most fun strongman competition they've ever done i i think it is i think it all of them would agree
agree that that's the case because i think what makes it so fun is having a thousand people
excited and screaming
at you when you're competing it's like whoa i'm like pretty cool right now this is what it'd be
like if this sport was real it's like that meme with the guy with the butterfly like are these
spectators like it's almost like how it goes actually yeah yes so it's a little disappointing also a little bit relieving because for you and i it is a lot
of work it's a lot of work for us even more so for you and it's also a ton of work for our
volunteers yes like it takes what 15 volunteers to make it all work yeah maybe more even i'm
maybe most relieved about not having to call in all those favorite,
you know,
call in all the,
Hey,
can I count on you to help again this year to do all that shitty stuff that
you did the last three years?
Can you,
we do that.
And I think most of them enjoy it because it is still,
it's still fun.
And it's like a,
just a group group thing.
And we always party.
It's kind of a way to show like,
Oh yeah.
Like we are doing something in the community here.
We're not like completely shut off from the world.
Like we do have a group of engaged active members that,
but like for the volunteers that help spot and move equipment,
it is fricking pretty intense.
It's like an all day workout.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yes.
So it is nice not to have to call in all those favors again.
I think if we do it again in the future years,
our volunteers will have, we'll thank us for having at least had a year of not having to do it yeah i needed that
year to recover from the last three yeah so will we see it again we don't know we uh probably the
biggest reason we had to not do it is because i got a really cool thing framed and made earlier
this year in the gym of of all the past, all the three years.
Of the programs the last three years,
and there wasn't room for a fourth program.
So I was like, ah, I guess we can't really do it again.
Yeah, it would ruin the picture frame.
So yeah, that was actually the deep down reason.
Yep, there's always something.
Also, Masanomic, I put it out on Instagram this week, actually.
It was a chart showing the growth of Masanomics over the years, I put it out on Instagram this week, actually.
It was a chart showing the growth of massonomics over the years 16, 17, 18, and 19,
and how we're not even halfway through 18, and 19's already, we've surpassed that.
My point being there is that we've started to grow enough here that this thing is a little bit of work yeah significant blip on the radar right right
right yes it's we're getting there's enough other things moving here that we have enough moving
parts that it's it takes us some time and work just to keep all of those uh oh yeah like balls
rolling yes yeah with with the uh increased growth it means increased attention on a thousand other
yeah yeah and so yeah it does turn into one of those things you just have to have priorities the increased growth, it means increased attention on a thousand other things. Yeah.
And so, yeah, it does turn into one of those things that you just have to have priorities
and it does get tough to split your attention that many different, that many different avenues
and still do well at them, you know, like something, it comes to a point where we're
not there yet, but at some point, one thing we'll have to give, whether that's families
or Masonomics or jobs, I don't know, but it will be one of them.
Probably families. I mean, let's't know but it will be one of them probably families I mean let's be honest it will be families so
if you guys buy more stuff we'll get to that point
sooner and find out how it works out for us
it is cool to see that
chart though how much you know more
support we've gotten over the years and how
how you know steep
the growth is where it's like dang
I didn't know if we'd ever be able to do as good as we did last year.
And also the fact that people commented on it and it was like,
it wasn't like just for us.
People were like, oh yeah, you guys are, we love what you're doing.
Keep at it.
It was like, okay, cool.
Yeah.
People are appreciative of this whole thing, which does make it all worth it.
Yep.
Yeah.
That's pretty cool.
Pretty cute.
So thank you everyone for being a part of this,
being a part of this wave.
Whatever this is. Whatever this is.
Of this thing.
All right, Tanner.
I'm looking at the show notes here.
What about, we did have some big lifts for the week.
I know that.
Oh, yeah.
We should probably talk about those.
Because we do want to talk about a little bit of lifting.
Like, not too much.
No, not too much.
But there was some really big, big lifts this week.
Yeah.
The first one, do you want to talk about this?
Should we get right into this?
Yeah.
So what do we have there?
Big Julius Maddox, Massanomics supporter, by the way,
broke the American bench press record.
He benched 723 pounds on his second attempt of his bench-only meet this weekend.
And that, when I saw that, I thought, so he did go on to a third attempt,
and we'll get to that. But I thought that that was the third, when I saw that, I thought, so I, he did go into a third attempt and we'll get to that.
But I thought that that was the third attempt when I saw it.
And I was like,
cause I 723,
I'm like,
well,
yeah,
people don't have an attempt after seven.
Right.
Right.
And I thought that has to be the easiest seven 23 ever done.
That was a really good,
it was so fast,
especially like,
yeah,
I don't,
it looks like he could,
if you want to do a half rep, it seemed like he could do 800 plus pounds.
At the speed he moves, 723.
Yeah.
I'm not sure I move 220.
I actually feel pretty safe saying I don't move 225 off my chest as fast as he moves 723 off of it.
Yeah.
So he beat Eric Spoto, the old American record holder, I think at 722.
Is that what it was?
Yeah, I think he chipped him, I suppose you'd say.
Passed it up by a pound maybe.
And then, so then he goes to the third attempt.
To break the all-time world record bench press.
Held by Kirill?
Kirill Sirachev, I think, has 738.
And so Julius was either going, I don't know know how it comes out if it's 739 or
740 that he attempted and did you see that rep yes he made a good run at it the first half of
the rep yeah again looks like the weight doesn't matter and for him it was it was like the one arm
was basically locked out yeah you know it was just he couldn't lock out that last little bit
and that's after him benching seven 23.
And that's the thing. It's like with this, do you almost just not even like,
do you just make your second attempt? Oh, no.
And maybe now that he has that maybe from now on his second attempt is just
700 pounds.
Well, I think his second attempt is probably just seven 40 until he breaks it.
I think that's what he, I think. Cause that's the only goal. Like, yeah.
So he knows like some of those guys, you know, it's like,
well, I do like to fill one out in between.
The reason I say that, I know his last – the meet that he did prior to this,
he broke – he got into – I think he made third all time,
and he just took it as his opener.
Oh, okay.
So I could almost see that where he either just –
he's just taking it as his opener or a second
yeah probably a second i think it's figuring out what that last one you need yeah he gives
yourself a second chance in case something weird happens that you get a uh but i would imagine
there's no there was a reason to do this to become the all-time american record holder now nothing
you know i'd imagine he doesn't care about anything other than breaking the all-time world record.
So now at this point, it's like maybe you go out on the first attempt and do 600.
Yeah, right.
Yes, do something that's relative very easy for him.
That should any day of the week be there for you.
And yeah, assuming that's an acceptable jump for you.
Whatever the normal jump he would take.
Which still, 123 pounds seems like a crazy jump on bench.
But when you're at that level, maybe that's not.
But by the way he benched, to me it just looks like it's a matter of time, right?
That is what I thought.
Yeah.
You didn't – I mean, there was – watching it at first, it was like, oh, he has this.
And then it was almost like shocking that he didn't.
Yeah.
And by matter of time, I would say not long time, like matter of –
Oh, I would just say –
When he competes again, if he has a good training leading up to it.
As long as he's going into his next meet feeling good.
And, yeah, I don't see any reason why he couldn't be there.
Right.
And I don't think the way that – I mean,
have you ever seen Kirill Sergeyev lifting lately?
I don't think he's going to be coming back to challenge him anytime.
Yeah, I almost wonder if maybe that's like his...
Unless something changes, you almost just wonder like is his...
Is he done with that?
Is he just done chasing all-time world records?
And he will forever just be an incredibly strong guy.
Yeah.
I don't think he's competed in...
I think it's been a couple of years.
Yeah, right.
And I want to say even the last time he did, I don't think it was...
I think he did a full powerlifting meet at one point in there where he deadlifted a whole shitload, too.
Yeah, I want to say that was in December a couple years ago.
He deadlifted like eight-something.
Yeah.
But, yeah, I don't know.
I don't know where his.
I'd like to see Julius Maddox bring it back to America anyways.
Oh, yeah.
That'd be very cool.
Yeah.
Why not?
All right.
yeah why not all right and then uh number two up on the big lift segment we have a 953 pound unofficial world record deadlift by mr deadlift which is christoph is it we're becky something
yeah i was hoping you knew i think i think it's i think they say at least i've heard it looks
there's like a z in there yeah there's all those weird polish letters yeah i believe i've heard people say we're becky before okay um yeah not spelt like it sounds at all yeah uh so he and
yeah he's kind of been gone from the scene for a little while too so i was wondering where he was
at because you know ipf worlds was just like this last weekend and he obviously didn't compete there
right i think i've also maybe heard that maybe he's done with ipf that's what i was gonna say
is maybe he not meeting the criteria to see that the criteria to continue to lift in the IPF.
Because I think this is, so this 953-pound deadlift,
I believe is well above his previous world record in the IPF.
His IPF world record, yeah.
Which I think was around like 80-something, you know?
So we could guesstimate that he has gotten into some tainted supplements at this point
i think i think yes it's safe to say his supplements have been tainted
now the real question is does he realize is he gonna plead ignorance i was like i don't know
why i got so much stronger in such a short period of time polish supplements
so yeah he did 953 uh this one is so the big thing there was unofficial and unofficial being
it wasn't done in an actual powerlifting meet it was deadlift only he only did and it was more of
kind of like a strongman type meet uh-huh there wasn't there was like one judge i believe there
was there was a judge but there was just just one judge there wasn't three judges like there would typically be at a powerlifting meet.
Do you know this for a fact, or is this just –
That's hearsay.
I don't really know.
I didn't know if it was like –
No, I'm not sure.
That's something else I heard.
It always gets tricky on these things.
So if there is only one judge, then at that point it's like, well,
that's not really by the powerlifting rules at all.
Like it kind of doesn't fit the sport.
So, yeah, it probably doesn't make sense.
But now if there are three judges,
should it be an unofficial world record or should it just be a world record?
Well, what did the eye test tell you
based on you watching the...
It looks like a good deadlift, doesn't it?
Yeah, I was going to say,
I've seen worse deadlifts than this.
Yeah, I think it looked...
Like, he didn't have shaky knees.
No.
It wasn't, like, a really, like,
weird soft lockout or anything.
Like it was a pretty clean deadlift.
Yeah.
Especially for being over 900 pounds.
You know,
you would,
even if you did count it,
you would have to categorize it as a deadlift only.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Not a full power,
you know,
Taylor,
Taylor did full power,
whatever he did this year.
Did he do nine 50 at,
uh,
the,
uh, it's right. I forgot what it actually is but it's right
in there but this is so this also brings up the question wasn't because don't a lot of people
consider the the kind of like power lifting deadlift only world record that's is it benedict
magnus yes and that's like that 1015 yeah yes and that was done without a singlet like he's he's wearing it's like remember
it's that mhp and he has the t-shirt on yeah he has he always curls in the sleeves of his sleeves
are curled in and it's definitely like not yeah it's right it's like an exhibition it shows up on
open power lifting and it does and it does and it's like and that's and well this is no less
of a thing than that exactly that's the thing's the thing is most people do kind of consider that to be the highest power lifting deadlift of all time.
But even that one, it's like, well, that seems to be under even different conditions than what you would.
Right.
It was no straps.
Neither one of you seen straps.
And no hitching.
No straps, no hitching, no suit.
Which is probably the biggest two criteria that matter.
I would place those above one judge as matter of war.
Yeah, I think it's no straps, no hitching, no suit.
Because that stuff is when you get into strongman and all that stuff.
And then probably the next criteria down would probably be that three judges versus one.
Right.
And traditionally powerlifting always is three.
Yep.
But traditionally also in powerlifting
you are a single yeah and that gets to be that would get into be be in there like the three
judges i think that's probably just as important of a criteria and that's just where like these
world records get so hard to like actually it's like how it gets the point of like how do you
even say one's right and one's wrong yeah it's like they it almost really turns into they lifted
it didn't right yeah i thought kaylor was very you know he basically said uh from what i what i
saw him say he he said well to me that pretty much counts so he beat mine and you know you know
the old saying goes unless you can lift it how can you really even be a judge that's true that's
true you can't only technically kaylor hasn't even be a judge of it? That's true. That's true. You can't.
I mean, technically, Kaler hasn't lifted this, so he probably can't even judge it either.
To get judges, you would have had Uri and Benedict Magnusson, and that's only two.
Still, you don't have three.
Still missing a judge.
Yeah.
But, you know, I have read in a lot of comments that until you can lift it, you can't actually be a proper judge of things.
That's true.
The other thing that this brings up is, so this, he was Mr. Deadlift.
Is 953 enough to qualify him as a PhD so he could become also a doctor of deadlift?
Well, is the world big enough for two doctors?
That's the other question.
And there also is a PhD of deadlift that exists out there too.
Ben Pollack.
Yeah.
Let them figure it out.
Yeah.
But Ben and Kaler have the higher status here,
but yet Mr. Deadlift now has the highest deadlift.
That's going to play out in the next year or so.
I wonder if they'll have to trade handles.
Your followers are mine now. The handle swap. I hope they know have to trade handles. Figuring out your followers are mine now.
Yeah, the handle swap.
I hope they know how to read Polish.
I can sense a lot of Instagram drama coming out of this,
so we'll have to keep our eye on it.
And that's really all this other baloney aside,
how it affects Instagram is probably the most important.
Well, it is the most important part, yeah.
You know, the world record and the standing on open powerlifting,
it's down on the list as far as importance. But the one thing is how will this affect instagram right and what will the
people on reddit say yeah most importantly uh we're kind of getting down there on time tanner
well do we have time for overrated underrated i think we can fit it in you did say over first
there ah the official show notes say under first so now you're
mixing up contradiction here you are mixing up the listeners now yeah we'll probably i'll probably
continue to do that um first i would like to review the results of uh the instagram poll of
last week's overrated underrated and here our graphic it does show graphic does say well because over
would be above under yeah you do read top to bottom right okay so topic one was of last week
was brown bananas you said overrated yes uh the poll on instagram instagram came back just slightly
overrated 56 why it's so slight i'm not sure but that's what the people say some people like it i
guess uh topic two was middle class fancy you said underrated underrated very strongly underrated
79 i would like to think we maybe turned the world on yeah turned a few people on yeah
um nickelback you said overrated overrated it did come in. I mean, it was fairly strong, 61%, but it wasn't a runaway overrated like I thought it may be.
Well, I was torn on that one because I still kind of did say,
I'm like, they're not really underrated.
That was one of those where I was like, they still do get a lot of fan play.
They still are somewhat relevant to certain people.
Yeah.
Then the last one we talked about at the beginning of the show, hot dogs.
You said.
I said they were overrated.
The people.
Do you know what the people said?
They did probably say underrated.
They said underrated by 56%.
So pretty close.
But yeah.
Yeah.
I'm almost surprised it was in favor of underrated though on the hot dog.
Yeah.
God.
Whoever that was, they really got me thinking that I'm caught in some mind trap with myself now as to how I rate things being overrated or underrated.
You know what?
I'm just going to keep going to what I do because this is an opinion piece.
We're going to see how that plays out right now in this week's.
Let's see here.
Let me get to the topics, the new topics.
Rules this week. We're going to here. Let me get to the topics, the new topics. Rules this week.
We're going to gloss over the rules a little bit.
I guess we did.
I mean, the rules probably matter more ever this week.
We did go under official review of Tommy.
And I guess I suppose what was at stake is his druthers,
whether he gets to maintain those or not.
And at least for now, his druthers have not been suspended.
You still have those for this week here. So we're going for now uh his druthers have not been suspended you still have
those for this this week here so we're going to continue on your druthers topic number one
overrated or underrated this is a timely topic for this podcast coming out fireworks
i want to say that they're underrated because i believe not in our state but i believe a lot
of states they're illegal, aren't they?
I don't know the, yeah, that's probably true. I don't know.
I think so because people come to certain states to get them.
And maybe that's changing more and more,
but I could have swore growing up that Minnesota, they were illegal.
I think that that's true.
There would be tons of stands on the state line on the border. Yeah.
And so the fact that people can't partake in the joy that they bring,
I want to say that they are underrated.
And also, I did have some pretty amazing times with fireworks as a kid
that you can't actually put a number on those.
So I'm not saying so much of going to fireworks shows.
I'm saying more of doing my own fireworks thing as a kid.
So yeah, I'm going to say fireworks are underrated. of like doing my own yeah doing my own fireworks things as a kid um so yeah i'm gonna say i'm gonna say fireworks underrated they are pretty expensive yeah they are have a men to a fireworks yes they are i think uh furniture they're up there with
furniture on like the markup yeah probably exceeding just different types of gunpowder
put into a piece of cardboard yes different shapes and colors of cardboard um but you're saying underrated on
fireworks underrated okay overrated or underrated friends the television show i'm not just having
you're really gonna make me yeah i can say that i really do believe the TV show Friends is overrated. And one, it is one of those shows that it is pretty universally loved
by a lot of people.
I had a roommate, and we've talked about this a lot before,
and I will get in depth on why I don't like it,
but he was a Friends fanatic, like Friends fanatic.
He had the entire series on, I think, DVD.
Yeah.
And that was before it went on Netflix,
when it just became easier just to hit the button on Netflix and watch it.
And my biggest thing is, I am not a fan.
Well, it's probably relevant to 90s stuff,
but at that time, when I was growing up, I didn't want a cartoon.
I did not want real people stuff.
I wanted cartoons when I was young and that was on.
And also these people in New York, I'm like eight.
This does not relate to me at all.
And then by the time it did maybe relate to me, I'm like, well, this looks so 90s and dated.
It looks old.
I don't want it anymore.
And the other thing, what do they call it?
The three-camera sitcom or whatever where people are in these are in the Big Bang Theory or Two and a Half Men.
I don't like shows that are shot in that way.
I don't like it.
It's not fun for me.
I'm not a fan with the laugh track.
There's another one.
Take any show with a laugh track.
The Big Bang is a really funny one to do this on.
There's clips on youtube where people will take
the laugh track out and you're like oh my god this isn't funny at all yeah this is terrible yeah
um it's funny so yeah i don't like shows that rely on a laugh track i don't like the the the
fixed studio thing i don't do that i don't like it it. To me, that's like The Office, that style of show,
completely made that version of show obsolete and done.
And for the most part,
I mean, it kind of really has been obsolete,
but I am so glad that the world moved
in the evolution of your shows,
like your Office, Parks and Rec,
like Modern Family,
where you have,
and I don't really watch those other ones much,
but where you have these different I don't really watch those other ones much, but where you have like,
you know,
these different settings and there's no laugh track and it's like more shot,
like an organic,
like movie,
you know,
it's a more organic thing.
Um,
yeah,
to me,
friends way overrated.
I think that's the right answer.
Um,
we have had Starbucks on overrated underrated before.
If you think back,
we have,
I think we've done Starbucks. So, uh, what, what we're doing today on overrated underrated before. If you think back, we have, I think we've done Starbucks.
So, uh, what, what we're doing today, overrated underrated, a little more generic coffee.
We have not just looked at just coffee.
And I think it's, it's worthy of giving a run on overrated underrated.
It is.
Now, this is also one of those where the world freaks out about coffee and caffeine i okay i
personally i'll say this is like right i personally i enjoy coffee um like i don't i haven't had a
cup of coffee this week i for sure had a couple last week um it is good okay you got me tanner
this is a tough one yeah my druthers are really going yeah
your druthers meter is ping pong it is really bouncing around uh i don't know if we use
druthers correctly most of the time when i say that to me druthers is generic
very abstract yeah you can't quite define it describes my my thing although we do have
the rules of overrated underrated do clearly
state the the dictionary definition of druthers but yes it's not how we choose to use it i don't
know i think coffee is overrated because it also kind of falls in line with the friends thing is
like it kind of has like universal love i mean you cannot deny the fact that a good chunk of the world runs on coffee.
It absolutely does.
Dunkin' Donuts said so.
Exactly, yes.
I mean, there's taglines that say that.
I think coffee's overrated.
With that being said, did I say Starbucks is overrated?
I don't even remember.
I think so, yeah.
I think I did.
That seems like it would make sense.
I do have to say, though, it is is summertime and so my go-to ice coffee action is the sea salt
cold foam cold brew at starbucks that thing is so good god i love it's like it's amazing i just
love it but have you ever in the fall had PSL?
Do you know about PSLs?
I do know about PSL.
PSLs are a thing of their own.
There's been studies on the whole.
Yeah, it is, and it has this whole.
Pumpkin spice has also been on overrated, underrated before.
Yeah, it has, yeah.
I mean, that's one of those things that's almost turned into a meme.
It is itself, yeah. I don't turned into a meme. It is itself. You know?
I don't like pumpkin spice stuff.
They're fine.
Yeah.
It doesn't taste bad.
I'm not going to say it tastes bad.
I just wanted to bust out the PSL reference mostly.
Yeah.
And you did.
Yeah.
You did.
But yeah, I will say coffee is overrated.
Yeah.
I think I drink coffee more days than I don't, but I would agree that that is, it is overrated.
That's where you have to separate the, do would agree that that is it is overrated that's where you have
to separate the do you like it versus is it overrated last topic for the day overrated or
underrated i'm just trying to do more dramatic pauses i thought you were actually gonna say
overrated underrated no no uh no. Overrated, underrated.
Airplane mode on your cell phone on an airplane.
You could say it's appropriate.
Is it?
Well, I mean, by law, you're supposed to,
so it would be appropriate to follow the law in this situation. But is it uh well i mean by law you're supposed to so it would be appropriate to follow the law in this but is it reasonable well most importantly is it overrated or underrated but these are other
questions that side in um i mean to answer the other questions first i believe the reasoning is
i think what what's the faa i think their logic is that it has to exist because they have to test every, like, configuration,
every, like, smartphone configuration, like, between the processor and the chip and all that stuff.
They have to test every configuration with every plane in the world to know that it's safe.
And that's, like, just not possible to do, especially with the rate the phones come out.
So to do that, I believe they just do a blanket airplane mode.
Do they even tell
you that anymore they do yes but nobody i'm busy on my phone while they're uh going over that thing
but also the thing okay so the thing i never understand is i mean if the plane
if you don't turn your phone off your phone doesn't do anything when it's not on airplane
mode i mean if you leave it off of airplane mode you don't turn airplane mode on and you get on the plane it still is the
same thing as being in airplane mode as far as what you can do with it right you just if you're
on an iphone you just pull down from the top and hit the airplane button so it's really quick um
i don't know i'll maybe i'll go with the uh
it's the right thing to do and say it's underrated
it's underrated be safe out there maybe that's how i should reply to that one do you think it's the right thing to do and say it's underrated.
It's underrated.
Be safe out there, people.
Maybe that's how I should reply to that one.
Do you think it's ever crashed a plane?
I don't think so, no.
I don't think it ever will either.
But, you know, the U.S. government and airports is a very touchy subject. So maybe it's best just to do what they say.
You don't say bomb on a plane, right? Yeah, yeah plane yeah yeah or like try to cause a scene or problems at all you know as as much as most people
have a terrible attitude going through you just got to put up and deal with it yeah so yeah i'll
say i'll say it's underrated okay that wraps up overrated underrated for the week and on that
token as per use it also wraps up the podcast and it wraps up our stay here in studio
three uh and two at tyler's we kind of had one at massonomics for a little bit oh that's true
do you count that or i don't you know well we did multiple setups yeah i completely forgot about
that multiple setups in one location that's weird i I completely forgot about that. There's multiple setups in one location. That's weird.
I forgot about that.
Yeah.
So this is Studio 4.
You could say this is the fourth one that we've done.
Yeah.
That's right.
I didn't forget about that.
We did a couple at my house in the backyard, but I don't count that.
You know, we did.
Yeah.
I think we needed the full gear.
You need the full gear.
Yeah, that was because that wasn't, yeah, with this.
That was with the run and gun gear run and gun gear so it was quite the same so next time you do hear from
us we'll be in studio 5 version 5.0 studio 5.0 you know what they say the best is yet to come yes
uh we'd like to remind you to do all the things that we usually remind you to do at this point
so number one would be going to the store we talked about the secret uh easter egg flag that you could you could find if you're ever so
dedicated and diligent and who knows maybe one day it'll turn into a secret easter egg t-shirt
exactly uh we do have new stickers coming soon just be on the lookout for that that's going to
be super gotta have those sticker packs uh new shirt coming soon we dropped
the tank tops they're still available for your pleasure this summer the lift tank top the dead
lifter tank top maybe even yet this summer there will be more to that collection they are getting
down there in sizes yes so we're selling a lot of the tank tops more i would say that was a product
that we've sold more of than we would that we would have initially guessed yeah we're not sure
if that will be a product outside of summer so So if we don't get it this time, you might have to wait a while to see those again.
Right, yes.
So keep that one in mind.
We don't know if we want to sit on hundreds of those over a winter.
Yeah.
Not the best use of inventory.
I should show you my basement sometime.
You should.
Yeah.
Make my head hurt.
Yeah.
You can see the number of shirts that we have.
We have a lot of Masonomic shirts.
So we don't know what's going to happen with the tank tops,
so get those if you want them.
We did, at the time you're listening to this, it doesn't do you any good,
but we did run a sale on the Jefferson deadlift shirt.
My warning would just be stay tuned and watch us closely
because it was just a one-day sale that we put out that day.
So maybe there'll be something else like that in the future
where you can save some coin. Will it be on the lift shorts no absolutely not no that's
we reserve that for black friday yeah so if you if you really want to make a deal on the lift
shorts mark that on your calendar count the days yes and it won't be very good to begin with
well it won't be very good for us right you might think it's
good for you that's up to you to decide but yeah um besides that the store that we covered leave
us a podcast review kind of got on on that topic last week and i don't know i haven't checked yet
but we'll reserve that for next week we'll go over all the mini reviews that we probably have
on apple podcast five-star reviews like us on youtube battle for first comment uh that battle
just heats up every week the youtube first comment it's actually turning into a competition there's
more competition on our youtube first comment than there are at some point then there aren't
most powerlifting and that's that's true that's something right there um it is going to be very
hard to place to podium uh top five at this point is an accomplishment.
Actually, it is turning into podiuming on the Masonomics YouTube first comment
is becoming an accomplishment.
To get first, you need to be less than a minute.
And I do appreciate all the sportsmanship involved too.
Like congratulating each other.
Well done. Oh, I got to read something. I'm glad I almostmanship involved, too. A lot of people. Congratulating each other. A lot of people. Well done.
Oh, I got to read something.
I'm glad I almost didn't forget this.
I actually did check.
I mean, I check the comments every week, but while I was checking them this week, I was laughing.
So I'm like, there is some legit camaraderie happening in the comments of the YouTube.
There is one comment that just struck me as so funny that I feel like when I thought about it, I was like, this has to be read because it really, I was like, wow, that is well done on that.
Now let me find it.
It might just take just a second.
We got people waiting, Tanner.
The suspense is killing them.
Everyone wants that comment.
Okay.
Who's going to get the shout out?
Okay.
It's really funny to me uh brandon amos who's typically in the battle for one of the battle you know uh swim hack probably as our reigning most frequent he does have the most titles to
his name i think it's safe to say brandon said uh this is what i get for being a good dad and
taking my kids to swimming in reference to not placing not placing, I don't think he even podiumed this week.
I think he recently has hit first in the past month.
Big James Strickland said, commitment is taking your phone in a Ziploc bag and still getting it done.
Talking about being a good dad and taking his kids swimming.
about being a good dad and taking his kids swimming yeah brandon's reply to that which made me literally laugh out loud to myself is swim hack that is literally a swim hack
and i was like i didn't forget about that i was like oh my god that when could it ever come up
that james could literally be leaving a swim hack in the comments on our YouTube?
And it did.
It applied.
Most people would go, hey, thanks for the advice.
That is an actual swim hack.
Yeah, swim hack was actually giving out swimming hacks.
So another reason.
So it's not just a clever name.
No, he actually has swimming hacks.
That's the first one I've seen, I think.
So even more incentive to subscribe to us on YouTube
