You know, thanks for what you do with your podcast and all the rest.
You're doing a great job.
Hope everybody keeps tuning in.
You get a lot of good info, a lot of insights,
understandings on how to get strong, how to stay strong,
how to use your strength.
You do a great job, dude.
You make things better than they are in real life, I think.
If you don't follow Massanomics, y'all do it.
Social media, website, everything.
Massanomics!
Massanomics!
website, everything. Massanomics.
Welcome everyone to episode 176 of the Massanomics podcast, the lifting podcast about nothing.
Your two favorite hosts are back again today. Myself, my name's Tanner and sitting to my left is Tommy. How's it going? It's going good, Tanner. You kind of always sit to the left and I sit to
the right. You know, we don't the left and I sit to the right.
You know, we don't want to shake things up because the intro, I mean, that was a very well-executed intro,
but it could just send the whole thing into chaos if we start changing directions and all that.
Yeah, we don't want to do that.
No, that would not be good.
What would these guys do then?
Well, then the people on YouTube, I mean, they would be the first commenters would be in a whole
world of trouble again because everything would be all yeah we talk about it uh like most people
are watching you know a lot of times on here i talk about it like most people are watching us
but in reality statistically most people are not watching yeah maybe 10 percent of the people
very best yeah like yeah the the youtube viewers are the minority audience for sure uh but they are the
first they are in the but they are a devoted group there's no doubt about that yeah yeah
for sure we i don't know if we've talked about the first comment race for a while not or not
but it's it's really it has not slowed down it's only heated up farther and farther and farther
i've noticed that it's like uh placing to the 10 spot now of people battling up for the top 10.
The podium is long gone.
It's really just top 10 finish is what it's coming down to.
It is an honor to make the top three, though.
Oh, definitely. Without a doubt.
It takes devotion to get there, too.
And an internet connection and reflexes within a second, I guess.
And a Sunday evening with not that much else
going on that is key too yeah yeah a little time in your schedule helps for sure um tonight is the
series finale of the strongest man in history i've heard some people say it's up there with
the season finale of game of thrones as far as what could happen hopefully it doesn't disappoint as many people as that did you never know i have you seen any of them i watched the one um the only one i've
caught was they were in was it cody wyoming yes yes i think that's right and yeah they did kind
of they were trying to do the who was pretending to be the expert on that one was that robert
oberst in that episode? It was more,
well,
when I thought,
I thought it seemed more like Eddie Hall because the guy,
whatever his name was,
was from Britain supposedly.
Oh yeah.
So Eddie Hall was kind of being the historian on that one.
Yeah.
And then that was where Nick Best was like dying,
trying to haul that piano.
Oh yeah.
And then at the end,
you know,
they had to bring like the paramedics in for,
I think oxygen and everything. And then at the end he had to burn the piano you know they're out in the field
burning yeah they they that they wrap up every episode where they all it's dusk and they stand
around a little fire or something like that and they share a shot of uh oh that is every episode
yeah yeah i didn't know that was just a one-time thing and then they kind of walk away and it's
always like huh huh, what
shenanigans are we going
to get into next week?
You know, like this
last one, they walk
away and Brian says,
when are we going to
do Louis Sear or
something like that?
And then it fades to
black and that's the
end of the episode.
But we haven't talked
about it since.
We kind of talked
about it after the
first episode came out
and a few other, you know, I've gotten to understand the show a little bit more. We know more about it after the first episode came out and a few other you know
i've gotten to understand the show a little bit more we know more about it after their format
figured out yeah yeah uh my one thing is they really go to some extremes of finding these people
like most of the people outside of paul anderson i don't know if i've heard of any of the other
ones before i i didn't know if the Wyoming one was the exception.
I caught it because I didn't know who they were talking about.
I think Paul Anderson was the exception.
Really?
Yeah.
So it is really the unknowns of strength circus feats.
And they really stretch some of these feats out too.
Okay, that was the other thing I was surprised by is I thought for sure this was a half hour show but no it is the full hour i it's usually they do kind of a
couple sillier feats and then it ends with those guys doing something pretty legit well yeah
something on whether is this actually physically possible yeah uh it's also not really an episode until nick best cries
hey i guess if you got the skill you know you got to show it off then show your range also i don't
know if you caught it like either right before right after they come back from commercial
sometimes they'll have uh strongman follies or something like that and it's just instagram videos of people yeah and one of
them was uh john john cotton who he was log pressing out of a half rack and fell down or
passed out he passed out yeah he passed out and the log rolled off the arms he got it he got it
onto the arms but then while he was on the ground, it rolled onto him. It looked like he died.
Yes.
But John, supporter of Masonomics and owns a Masonomics shirt or two.
And I was like, ah, he's famous now.
He's done it.
Yeah.
The way he always wanted to.
He also had a funny story he told me where he was in the mountains of like Kentucky or something doing some hiking.
told me where he was in the mountains of like Kentucky or something doing some hiking and from a distance he saw another guy wearing a camo lift hat seriously yeah and he like from I
don't know if it was maybe 100 feet away or 150 but like not close enough that they could talk
from where they're at and he just yelled massonomics and the guy like just like waved back
yeah there's like a wave yeah
yeah we got to develop like that secret wave you know like the m of yeah yeah like that or something
yeah yeah we got to develop that secret uh you know so everyone knows you're in the club yeah
there's no confusion as to what level of massonomics love everyone's at here but i did
think that that was funny that he spotted the hat and then they had like a little uh the other guy probably didn't actually even know and he was like oh hey what did you leave
me alone yeah i'm just trying to hike over here uh i and actually that's funny too because one of
my buddies um just messaged me the other day said while he was grocery shopping in another town
several hundred miles from here saw a lady with a massanomics shirt on so it's it's all over the world it is it's it's global
uh strongest man in history anything else i'm thinking this is the last episode it seems like
it started and ended really quick but i'd be surprised if there's not another season of it
really and also on that because people in my life that necessarily don't follow
massonomics, but they know I'm into lifting a little bit,
I've had several people that don't care anything about lifting that have said,
have you seen this show on the History Channel about guys that lift?
Like, I mean, probably 10 people.
Oh, so you're saying just the awareness of what it's doing.
Yeah, I think a lot of, because with it being on the History Channel,
a lot of people are picking up on it.
They're reaching a much broader audience,
and people that kind of actually might be interested in that stuff
because it is something a little different.
Well, and like one guy, this was in a work setting,
and this guy is maybe 60 and probably never lifted,
but he's like, oh, the one guy in there, he's talking about how much he eats,
and it was Brian Shaw, you know, and going through his thing.
It's like, yeah, that guy weighs 440 pounds what you know i gotta do something to keep that
on but but i have talked to several people that said that seemed pretty interested in the show
yeah and i think it's good like it makes sense like there's just not entertainment around really
like what your entertainment was world's strongest man once a year um if you're
hardcore i mean you could catch the arnold and things like that but yeah the general spectator
your entertainment level was world's strongest man and i'm not even going to pretend that power
lifting was a thing that the average person would see because it's not on tv no i don't see it uh
helping i mean i see it helping all of their careers immensely but as far as their
competitiveness in like the strongman circuits eddie hall it obviously doesn't matter he's kind
of said that he had retired but for the other guys i do think it it sounds like it's probably
a pretty huge time commitment and travel commitment like that they spend a lot of days
filming i would guess each episode they're probably it's probably a week yeah right you know but by the time they get there figure out you know all this
all the sets and how they're going to do it and make the events out of them yeah so if you're
brian shaw who's as particular about his training as he is and you take eight weeks out of the year
where he's going to be completely gone from home and it's huge yeah so i i do think it probably does hamper it especially his competing because he's
is the way he is about wanting the you know his food everything in how particular yeah right
but he's probably smart enough that he sees the bigger picture that being a a star yes
your longevity of still being, you know,
we've said this before,
like,
does he have a year left?
Two years left?
Three seems like he's pushing it.
Right.
So,
I mean,
he's like,
this is,
I think good to already have things like this going.
Yes.
When you're looking at just,
you know,
income and all that stuff.
It's,
he's really grown his YouTube channel a lot too.
Yes.
I think he probably has like half a million subscribers on YouTube now and has a legitimate
YouTube channel with people working for
him that do the filming and editing.
So he sees that
you can tell he knows that there's
he needs a different light
at the end of his tunnel where
he can probably continue to make money off of the whole
thing. Yeah, that's
huge. I have seen
a pretty big spike in their instagram followings too i know
on nick best and robert over specifically that their instagram following is way higher than it
was prior to this show coming out i suppose with them too like not really being in that like that
real spotlight right yeah and i don't know i'm sure brian's and eddie's went up too but those
are so high i don't know what they were to begin. Eddie already had over a million followers,
but I know Oberst is almost like 400,000 now,
and I think he is probably about half that.
Really?
And Nick Best was.
That history channel bump in action.
Yeah, Nick Best was maybe like 70 or 80,000, I think,
and now he's like 125.
Yeah.
For someone like Nick Best, who out of the three is the least,
at least in the strongman world.
Yeah, just the least well-known.
And even Robert Oberst is at least a competitive strongman,
is a step below Eddie Hall and Brian Shaw.
I mean, those two are.
Yeah, but even with that, Robert Oberst is younger.
He's still at World's Strongest Man somewhat regularly.
He has more of a look's strongest man somewhat regularly he has
more of a look yeah he has a look and kind of an attitude six six plus or whatever he is and a big
beard like yeah he's kind of a guy that's hard to mistake right not saying nick best is easy to
mistake for people but he just he doesn't have that same look yeah he has maybe that age thing
working in his fat robert oberst has the age thing working his factor a little better where
yeah so nick best out of all of them, hit the jackpot the most, really.
I was like, all right.
I would gladly do this.
I will cry on camera every week.
I do not care.
I would really like to know the selection process.
If those were their first four picks, know they had to have asked thor right like or what but that's the thing is like did they ask some of those other guys and
they're like well we did an audition but you can't understand anything right or was that part of it
like oh we could have the wacky foreigner in here but yeah some of it just starts it probably is
turned into a real language barrier thing right guys and like, like, was there some guys that turned it down
because they thought it would mess up their training too much, too?
Like, could you see Mateus, like, doing this ever?
No, no, he definitely not.
What about Martins?
Like, he seems like he's pretty charismatic.
Wouldn't he be perfect for the show?
It seems like it, but, yeah, then, yeah,
it's also, like, he is kind of making a run.
He is at the pinnacle of his career.
So would he have turned it down?
But also, he's at the pinnacle of a strongman career,
but this is like a whole other level of something for your career, too.
That's where you could see, though, if they did another season,
it wouldn't be weird if one of those guys showed up.
Right, right.
I think Martins, now that we talk about it,
is the person that they need on the show.
Yeah, probably, because he's kind of the wild card.
Dimitar.
I would like that one.
That would be a favorite of ours.
Jerry Pritchett probably wouldn't be the most.
You know, he's pretty.
Which, I mean, it'd be cool to see him, but I just don't see him.
He's a little more serious and just focused on his.
And just kind of reserved.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I don't have anyone else coming to mind.
No, that would be i think martinez is
probably the missing piece of the puzzle yep you know i don't think they should get rid of anyone
but that's that's just let him pop in yeah every third episode or something yeah he would be funny
on there yeah yeah i like that so what is the what is the uh finale then do you know what it's
gonna be shit or shoot i can't remember um no i can't
remember i know i saw it on here but they did uh i guess i said they kind of make up all these or
they're using these people that you've never heard of when they're in scotland it was uh
dinny oh i guess yeah yeah so there was kind of someone you'd heard of before. But it's very staged, these guys being experts on these people
that I know they don't know either.
Yes, yes.
And, like, when they're in Cody, Wyoming,
none of those guys have ever heard of this guy before.
I like to think, though, that all the people that are watching are like,
wow, these guys are really well-versed in the history of this sport,
like just the average person.
To the average people, they probably don't
know that that's...
Anyone that really knows about Strongman, they're like, oh, come
on. You've never heard of that person before.
That ain't happening. No way.
Did you say
what they're doing in this last one?
I can't remember for sure what this last one
is. I guess you have to tune in and find out.
I think it's tonight.
All right.
Well, the other lifting television thing that I was thinking about is,
did you see what popped up on, is available on Netflix now?
I did not.
West Side vs. The World.
It is, really?
Yes, it's now on Netflix.
That actually didn't take very long.
No, it didn't. And I think it was fairly high up there uh doing doing well and it's i was gonna
say i could see that one doing pretty well just because anyone that's ever gone to the gym was
like oh okay this isn't a crossfit one which is a lot of like crossfit fitnessy ones on netflix so
something else and it's not super history lesson like a lot of the rogue ones are yeah so i could
see that one having some good crossover i've had had a couple people that maybe are a little bit into lifting
but not super into it also already ask me
if I've seen West Side vs. the World now
because they saw it on Netflix now.
Fortunately, my response gets to be,
yeah, but we didn't have to wait for it to be on Netflix.
We actually got a private screener from the creator, producer, director.
And the one guy was like, really?
I was like, yeah, I mean, like, I'm making it sound cooler than it really is probably.
It was pretty cool.
Yeah.
I mean, we, yeah, we got it pretty much at the same time as everyone else.
But it is a fact as a, you know.
Just when you said this just made me think of this.
So West Side vs. the World, Louis Simmons.
I don't know if you noticed, but Open Powerlifting had some photos on their story the other day.
I believe what they got going on is in their mission to document every meet ever.
They have a stack.
I think it's Powerlifting USA magazines.
And it sounds like they just got a scanner
documented to them where they can start scanning results and you know on to the next step of
getting these added to the database but they had some kind of uh i think they were posting like
some ads and even just some photos from you know from the old stuff of yesteryear two things really
stood out to me one was i saw an ad for an Inzer Power Shoe.
Do you mean the boot thing?
No, no.
We actually should message them just to find out what that was.
But I'm pretty sure it said Inzer Power Shoe.
And I can't remember.
It was all white, and it was a high top.
And I can't remember if it had Velcro on it or if it actually laced.
But it was a full-page ad for an Inzer Shoe which to me is kind of cool because that seems like that would,
that just seems like that's such a time pass.
Yeah, it is.
So I really want to know more on that one.
Also, it would be interesting just to see what type of,
I'm sure there's a lot of equipment being, you know,
advertising these things.
So it would be cool just to see that stuff.
And then they had, it was Louie Simmons and one other guy,
and I cannot remember his name off the top of my head,
but they had multiple photos of them lifting on the platform wearing sunglasses and i was like thinking like i'm actually shocked you don't see that yeah i don't think i've ever
seen that until i saw those photos no and like a guy that seems like so like as no nonsense as
louis like to see him lifting with wearing sunglasses yeah i think it was like the uh
it was seriously like the 1982 like yCA Nationals or something like that.
I wonder if their thought was that if they had spotlights on the platform, if it was –
Maybe.
Like Brian Shaw at the Arnold main stage where he throws the sunglasses on.
Maybe.
I thought the photos – I could be wrong too.
I'm just going off of memory.
It was just an Instagram story.
But I thought the background seemed pretty well lit up, like the whole thing was.
But maybe it was that intense of a spotlight that sunglasses were nice.
But I did think that was cool and surprising that no one else, you don't see people.
I think Blaine Sumner likes to complain about that.
The only way you can really express yourself is he can put chalk on his face and a headband.
And that's pretty much in the USAPL,pl at least as far as you can go for self
expression right uh you know in other plat in other federations you can wear like a hat yep or
you know you might have the option as to whether or not you want to wear a shirt on deadlift um
right i guess the usapl i think that just recently changed in the usapl i don't think that you i
think you have to wear yeah that's Yeah, that's a new change.
Yeah, but like other ones, you know,
but even there, you don't have a whole lot of options for,
you know, if you want to get stylistic with things,
what you're going to do.
I don't know why wearing a hat is a problem.
That one seems kind of dumb to me.
The only lift that I, you know,
that there's even something that matters is maybe the bench press.
Yeah, and that one, okay, the other federations even something that matters is maybe the bench press. Yeah.
And that one, okay, the other federations, I guess your head doesn't have to stay on.
Well, what do you have to do when you go, what do you have to do with your hair?
Well, they always say that they don't want the hair like right on the back of your head where it's touching the bench. Right, because you can almost like.
Almost hover it and they won't be able to tell.
And I think they also i've never
seen them do this but i always feel like in the rules meetings for the meets that we've been to
they say if your head is right to the point where or if your hair is behind your head to the point
where it could be confusing as to what is touching that they could ask you to adjust your hair for to
account for that but i've never seen that happen i guess i've never heard of it happening and to me
a hat almost makes it more black and because if you're wearing
a hat on your head like it's sucking that yeah you know to a tight line almost yeah it's just
part of keeping things no fun tanner i guess so but yeah it got me thinking on like who like what
do you see for style things on the platform and i'm just i just couldn't really nothing was coming
to mind for me so maybe sunglasses are that next big thing we need to we need to start a line of ipf legal
sunglasses ipf approved sunglasses if we can afford maybe we'll start with like a uspa approved
sunglasses there we go or maybe like an spf approved sunglasses there we go so just sunglasses
well the rule is they have to have a strap on the back so they don't fall off.
With the goggles.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I like that.
Yeah.
We can get something going with that, I think.
Start a market for that.
We'll build the market.
Yep.
Build the market.
Well, while we're talking about great ideas for products, I have a little something here, Tanner, called Fitness's Finest. Oh, I'm familiar with Fitness's Finest.
Are you familiar?
You remember?
You remember?
Okay. So for those of you that don't know, Fitness's Finest, we're going to look at some of the hot objects of yesteryear. And it could be a little bit of anything related
to fitness, right? It could be, yeah. I mean, we could be talking supplements, programming,
workout routines, equipment, looks, anything really. You know, we're going to reach deep
into the bag here and see what we come up with.
All right.
It has been a while.
It has been a while.
We have to go in our Wayback Machine to remember the last time.
This is the Wayback Machine.
We did it.
On the first one, we are going to go into the Wayback Machine for this.
And this is the Velcro Home Jogger.
Have you ever heard of the Velcro Home Jogger, Tanner?
I have not heard of the Velcro Home Jogger.
If you had to take a guess
what the velcro home jogger is jogger what would you guess velcro home jogger i'm just trying to
think of how velcro and jogger would go together let alone be it at home
i guess i would think it's something that you're wearing because of the Velcro.
And I just don't know what it could be.
I really don't know.
Maybe sweatpants that you wear.
Well, I don't know.
I really don't know.
The Velcro home jogger is the economic alternative in home fitness
because that is usually the problem with home fitness.
It's too expensive.
The economy of this, the pricing and everything. i'm going to show you a little picture here quick
tanner just so you can see what we're looking at oh it's a shoe so what the velcro home jogger is
and i'll read this it is wow it is just a velcro square just straight up i mean probably a foot by
foot yeah two foot by two foot velcro square And then you get the shoes that have the other side of the Velcro,
and you just run in place on the Velcro.
That is the Velcro home jogger.
If you want to know the finer points of the marketing materials here,
it says, why pay for an expensive power jogger's treadmill?
I guess compared to a treadmill, this probably is pretty cheap.
When a little, see, it's Japanese.
I don't know what
that word is uh when a little chindogu ingenuity can give you a full jogging workout for a fact
fraction of the price shot in special trainers sold with male hook velcro the exerciser jogs on
the spot over a specially designed mat of female loop velcro. The interaction between the two velcro services
produces sufficient resistance
to require considerable physical effort.
Ambitious indoor joggers may wish to consider
carpeting their entire house with loop velcro
to vary the available jogging landscape.
I want to know if anyone ever did that.
Or to keep fit while they do housekeeping.
Because that is... Two birds, one while they do housekeeping because that is two birds
one stone it is two birds one stone and like that looks really old like when do you think that's
from this is this has like 70s very old um this is actually from this is an excerpt from what i'm
reading here is a book called the big bento box as a bento bent to box of useless japanese inventions so this is an actual useless for sure
but one flaw i see with that is that every time you use velcro it becomes less effective
like every time you separate the parts if you're putting miles of yeah i mean it would eventually
also you're jogging in place which is a huge i mean
jogging already sucks and then jogging in place really like that seems insane that you could ever
market that to anyone i guess that would be why you don't see people doing it now but that's if
your whole house is full with it then you know yeah yeah if you did the whole house with it yeah
then you have if you velcroed your entire house yeah um and then the ultimate test with all these
the velcro home jogger does it fit under the bed? Yes. Yes, it fits under the bed.
It would fit under the bed.
So it is a viable product.
So it is a viable product in the scheme of things here because it does, in fact, fit under the bed.
So, yeah, just a nice little piece of ingenuity there.
That one is definitely hard to believe that it could have ever been a thing.
That, like, more than one ever actually sold um next up tanner we have and this is what i remember from my childhood
the ab rocket you remember the ab rocket and this one this one might be easy to confuse because
probably anything any word you can think of noun or verb after the word ab has probably been a product
right either before after the word ab has probably been a product at some time um but the weird thing
about the ab rocket is how it just literally looks like a chair like it's with rollers it kind of
looks like a video rocker with like weird like weird armrests armrests and then it just has like a a roller foam roller back and um that's the ab rocket
the yeah the amazing thing i was actually blown away by this is they still sell them on amazon
i didn't i thought for sure this was like a a thing of many many years past like no one was
buying these anymore they probably still have a warehouse full of them that they're trying to
they must but there's a crazy number just a well and then on top of that the uh the video here is
obviously how much does it cost so the whole thing though so the whole like gimmick with this thing is
so you're sitting in the it's like a video rocker you're sitting in it and you lean back
and it's comfortable on your back while you lean back,
and then there are springs in it to help push you back up.
To assist you.
So it's kind of like assisting in a sit-up of some kind.
Because that's usually my main concern with my fitness goals is pure comfort.
Well, yeah.
One, I'm not comfortable enough, and and then two i need assistance at all times
yeah whatever that is oh it says different size spring adjustable springs so you can really
okay so you can push the resistance in even harder that is what my workouts have been missing
though is like sometimes i'm not comfortable enough when i'm doing oh i thought you're gonna
say adjustable springs well that too but like the other day like uh last time i was dead lifting in the middle of
it i was like is there a way i could be more comfortable than this like my comfort level is
this does not feel all that comfortable to let them know how uncomfortable i am using their
products yeah oh this thing does assist with pilates though so you get that and then of course
the uh videos of people that are really ripped walking on the beach.
But does that fit under the bed?
Oh, actually, they're talking about how lightweight and compact it is.
They literally are putting it under the bed right now. As you say that, they slid it under the bed.
Wow, wow, wow.
Okay, okay, okay.
What was the price tag on that rocket?
I got so shook by the fact that they actually put it under the bed.
Okay, so they put it under the bed.
A Pilates machine can go for $3,100 no what are they going to give this to us for oh gym memberships
are expensive you know your ass can't afford 40 bucks a month for the gym all right ab rocket
how much are you coming to us for that's the uh you think it's over or under 50 dollars well
they must have took the price thing out of this video because it's so old.
But on Amazon, I can tell you these sell for $88.95.
It does seem like a lot to me, but I guess if you're getting adjustable springs.
Can you really put a price on really ripped abs?
I don't think you really can.
It is like you said, ab and then any word in the English language before or after.
It was like
on uh immortal barbell today that they had a post where it was uh how to name your supplement
and they had like a uh can of a supplement and at the top it's anabolic and then in parentheses
under that they put like any uh natural disaster uh and they list list off a bunch of different things that could be
and it's like, yeah, that's how people... They ain't wrong.
I'm trying to see if there's any good reviews on Amazon and
most people actually seem to think this works well and it'll relieve their
back pain, which I guess maybe that's possible
but it just seems like not not
the first piece of equipment i'd go to but um anyways the ab rocket that one did take me on a
little trip down memory lane i remember seeing those commercials when i was younger i've never
seen that and most importantly it did fit under the bed so coop should review that when i garage
gym reviews he's probably waiting for rogue to come out with their version of it. And, you know, ride that whole thing.
Because he's in their pocketbook.
He is in their pocketbook.
He's on their payroll.
For sure.
This next one, Tanner, this one comes from Instagram.
And this is the Eggweights.
Are you familiar with the Eggweights?
Eggweights, no.
Eggweights.
I am not really either.
Before I get into it too far, somehow they have 30,000 followers on Instagram.
Which.
Like it's like at egg weights.
Yeah.
At egg weights.
That is impressive.
I can't quite get a handle on what they actually are besides they're just
they're just weights they're just there's weights that are like i think you just hold them in your
hand like i can't quite figure out what the are they egg shaped yeah it says uh right here we use
denser denser and denser metals like small like to keep the size of the egg small um
the weight start at three pounds oh and you like hold them in shadow box yeah yeah that's really
like i think they're they're like trying to uh market to like fighters or even joggers to like
jog with them in their hands but i don't i don't get the science behind it even like is that i
guess maybe for a boxer or an MMA fighter.
It must be for a boxer.
There's a lot of what they're...
Yeah, or MMA, like you said.
Yeah, these are just kind of like a little...
I don't know.
It's almost like a little pill bottle
that's weighted, I guess.
That's really what it is,
and you just do exercises with it.
They're incredibly light on videos of yeah like there's people
boxing and for all i know they don't have anything in their hands like there's yeah you could take
any video of someone boxing and be like oh here he is with the egg weights and then there's just
a lot of videos of just people holding them like yeah the demos are almost non-existent here
but uh huh so someone submitted this one huh yeah this was actually uh submitted by
uh james underscore od
thank you for that but god i have no idea really what this thing is like
the instagram page this is probably how someone feels looking at the massonomics instagram page
i have no idea what the hell this thing is what What am I looking at here? They are Eggweights is following Half Thor,
Rogue Fitness, Arnold Sports Festival,
Martins, Mark Bell Slingshot,
Steffi Konan, Gracie V.
Just interesting that they're in the know.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's...
I guess we're not the audience, anner oh yeah just that one doesn't
fall on us but oh they even have a joe rogan podcast review wow incredible but we are not
their audience um it does fit under the bed though so again like all great products it fits under the
bed well that certainly would fit under the bed.
That would fit in your nightstand, even in the drawer.
That would fit under the nightstand.
Okay, and now this will be the last one on this week's Fitness is Fine with Tanner.
The last one.
And it might be a few weeks before we're back.
It could be.
It could be.
It could be, just depending on how busy we are.
Last one is called the Gorilla Bow.
Any guesses on the Gorilla Bow?
These are all really hard to guess what it is,
but I'm picturing it's a piece of fitness equipment that it has some bow-like bending with your arms, your legs,
like a spring of a bow.
So, yes.
Okay, so Gorilla Bow.
You can find them on Instagram, at Gor at gorilla bow they also have 17.5
thousand followers ha not as much as us this time no not as much weight has more than us the egg
weight did is beating all of us um really it's just like a big gigantic kind of like plastic
looking bow yeah and then we're like oh we're like the string is on the bow
it's just like an it's just like a resistance band uh-huh and oh yeah okay i was surprised
with their ingenuity on this one of they have you doing like squats with the like you stand inside
the bow and you can do squats with it you'd stand on the resistance band you can do curls in it
but at that point it's like i feel like just a set of dumbbells would be easier and cheaper to
or just a band like you can just stand on I feel like just a set of dumbbells would be easier and cheaper to haul around.
Or just a band.
Because you can just stand on a band.
Or just a band, yes.
Either way.
But what a full-body workout from anywhere.
This mobile gym has it all.
Improved balance, improved speed, build muscle, easy on the joints, 90-day money-back guarantee, and two-year warranty.
That's how you know it's good.
Well, how you really know it's good is that this gorilla bow would certainly fit under the bed and yeah and and most importantly it would fit under the bed
i don't see them following or being followed by anybody no uh the only one i see is a garage gym
experiment i wonder if they've reviewed it before maybe probably but yeah again just the uh
probably but yeah again just the uh you know just a lot of very very uh boring people doing odd exercises that i can't imagine they're actually doing much of this thing
no and then a bunch of stock images mixed in too so you know it's good i would not endorse
purchasing the gorilla bow i would say the egg weight there is maybe an app like
it's outside of our yeah yeah that that is the one for sure that we are definitely not the audience
right but i could see that having an application yes i could yes it's like that's a real thing
yep it's just a very unusual one yeah outside of like a fighter maybe some running carryover
yeah um yeah and also the fact of how many other things you could just hold in your hand that have a little weight.
Well, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Unless those things go up to like 20 pounds somehow.
Right, right.
They're just some crazy like.
Well, that is what they were kind of claiming, right?
That it's the kind of metal it makes.
I don't know how heavy they got.
But this bow thing, no.
Yeah.
And this isn't the first time we've reviewed something or looked at something of the bow variety. had uh what was the one let me look at the list the hawaii chair also a classic
that might be the one of the most classic that i still that people still will message us or send
us things about the hawaii chair uh the body blade was the other one where they would hold the bow
out in front of them and just shake it that one had a good name yeah yeah that was that yeah oh that was stupid yeah yeah that one that
was dumb this the gorilla bow is better than that thing yes the gorilla boat because it's i mean it's
a resistance band right right yeah you can make a resistance band do anything right you attach
to resistance band do a different piece of material like the body what was the one where the lady was
uh right what were they ride around on horses that prancer size yeah yeah
so yeah there's been some real doozies out there but yeah i can say after finishing this up the
egg weight probably has the most merit out of anything we've looked at so far i do i do it's
just it's just weird to us yeah it could be normal to someone i think yep for sure all right well that is fitness
is finest tanner so until next time um i guess keep looking for space under that bed what about
a new segment here oh we hinted at i the very end of i think the last episode we hinted at
this segment possibly showing it's uh rearing head yeah in the future uh where it's our
rest in peace segment where we do 30 minutes of silence for where we officially laid arrest
uh some of our fallen comrades whether that be instagram accounts podcasts uh because you know
when an account or a youtube channel dies there's's a good chance when it dies it's because no one's watching.
So no one really knows if it died.
It didn't get a proper burial.
So we need to bring that to life.
So we can properly put it to death.
Yeah, we've got to properly bury these things.
Yeah, I like this.
So today's account, this is an Instagram account that that will lay to its final rest,
send it on to the great fitness accounts.
With the great fitness accounts in the sky.
That have also moved along.
Because we pride ourselves on not being better at anything than anyone else.
But just not dying yet.
Yeah, but just lasting longer.
Yes, yes.
So it's fun to look at the accounts.
Okay, does the account exist still or is it deleted?
I think it's deleted.
This is an Instagram account.
It was a powerlifting meme page.
And the account is FrustratedStrengthAthlete.
Oh, yeah.
FrustratedStrengthAthlete is no longer with us.
They've actually moved on maybe even a couple of months ago.
They're in a better place now.
Yeah.
Is the account actually gone? Yeah yeah it's deleted wow yeah i didn't even i didn't even that
didn't like cross my mind yeah i think he had about 15 000 uh instagram followers and they
were entertaining and good posts but he there was some drama that he got involved in i cannot
i do not know what it was there There's some powerlifting drama thing.
You know how there's like these things.
Oh, because there's nothing else going on.
Right, right, right.
So there was something, and I asked a frustrated strength coach
what happened to a frustrated strength athlete.
Oh, the father of the athlete.
And his answer to me was short,
and I think he just said he deleted his account.
Really?
Yeah.
Wow.
So they're no longer with us but that uh you know
it's not for most accounts it's not really easy to get up to well over 10 000 followers like
especially when you're not just a purely a repost account yeah like there is no shortage of accounts
out there that just repost stuff um you know it does help to be a meme account because you can have a lot more of a viral factor with things but um yeah 15 000 is nothing
uh is no small accomplishment it's something respectable his dad frustrated strength coach
said uh he got over it and deleted it wow so that was the official word from his father
i'm glad we have the official.
Maybe we can do some more research on some of these.
Maybe we can do a where are they now.
This is actually probably pretty valuable,
but I have a Frustrated Strength athlete t-shirt even.
Do you really?
Yeah, it's that one that Immortal Barbell did the artwork.
Yeah.
But that was from Frustrated Strength athlete.
He sent those out or he had a a few of those available before he folded.
Like he had Immortal Barbell make those for him?
Yeah.
Really?
Like Immortal Barbell made that drawing for him.
Okay.
I thought, like I see you still wear that.
I just assumed it was an Immortal Barbell shirt.
No, that's actually a Frustrated Strength Athlete shirt.
Wow.
Immortal Barbell made the the drawing he came up with the
captions that are around the lifter you know because it's like a guy squatting and yeah it's
like i don't know has a hole in his knee sleeve and all these different things yeah that but so
that's a relic now of uh you know remembrance of that is instagram instagram accounts of days past
it's just it's like you want to pour one out for the homies here.
Well, that's kind of what we do in our rest in peace segment.
We pour one out for the homies.
And this isn't, we're not featuring, you know,
we're not featuring just garbage accounts either.
Like we followed frustrated.
Yeah, I remember telling you at the gym one time, like, man,
why did I wait so long to follow this account?
Like I actually really do think there's something valuable here right i'm still like shocked yeah i
mean i know i know neither one of them or strength frustrated strength coach had posted in a very
long time right but uh yeah shocking that's why we've had to pick up more of the slack wow yeah it's a it's a very very uh wide and vast industry that just someone
has to give people what they want yeah here we probably moved on to a job and more profitable
endeavors like just watching tv is probably more profitable almost anything yeah wow tanner thank
you for bringing that news to us today. Yeah.
It's somber news, but.
It was both sad and I guess, I don't know, maybe this is the first step to moving on now.
Yeah, it is.
To know that someone no longer exists.
But I wouldn't think frustrated strength athlete would be happy to know
that he's been properly laid to rest.
Properly, yep, yep.
By the Mass Masonomics podcast.
Okay.
How about reviewing last week's overrated or underrated?
See how the collective did versus you this last week.
Do you remember the topics?
Well, I do because I looked at them this morning,
but I actually kind of forgot them already.
The first one was scratch tickets.
You said overrated. And I think everyone said overrated yeah you said overrated i think everyone said over the people said overrated they were at 68
percent yep uh someone from utah did message and said they don't have lottery in utah and there's
people that will drive to the wyoming border just to go purchase well can you imagine what type of
just absolute chaos a whole state would fall into if they had a lottery that's true that's that's that's true
that's a good point good thing those mormons are yep so pure over there keeping it real
the next was whole life insurance uh when i think you said underrated i
oh i said overrated and when i checked this it was kind of splittable yeah um what i'm wondering
you know i don't want to second guess anyone's knowledge on it but i'm wondering, I don't want to second-guess anyone's knowledge on it, but I'm wondering if some people are just thinking life insurance.
Yeah, for your whole life.
Yeah.
I would guess there was definitely some responses of people that did know what it was.
Yeah, yeah.
It was overrated 56%.
Okay, okay.
Not as strongly as I.
Maybe we just have a lot of insurance salesmen that follow us.
That might be it, too.
Life insurance salesmen whose commissions depend on selling more whole life
policies. We did have someone, a follower that made a comment that I thought was, was pretty
valid. He, he said he used to be a financial advisor and he said a lot of times for high
income clients, like people making a quarter million dollars a year or more.
It's a spot for them to kind of get a tax break.
And he said,
it makes sense for them to have a certain amount of whole life insurance.
And I said,
Oh,
well that's probably a good point.
And we definitely didn't discuss that,
but that's not the average person isn't making over a quarter million dollars.
No,
no,
no,
not even the above average person.
Right.
Like that's a,
that's a,
even as a household income goes statistically across America,
that's a very high
income family
but that was a good point
I'll buy that
overrated or underrated hard knocks
was the topic and this was really close
they said 54% overrated
I did do my research this week and watched it
oh I think
did you watch the first episode?
I think the second episode was out last night.
Was it?
Okay.
It was the same thing like with Last Chance U.
Actually, literally had the exact same conversation.
I sat down, told my wife, I'm like, we're going to watch a show.
She goes, okay, what is it?
I said, well, it's like, it's like the show that follows a team.
She goes, what is it?
I said, well, they follow.
It's HBO.
Did you tell her it's HBO?
She knew it was on HBO.
I said, they follow a football team. She goes, I'm not watching, they follow. It's HBO. Did you tell her it's HBO? She knew it was on HBO. I said, they follow a football team.
She goes, I'm not watching a football show.
And I said, a lot of people don't like football. I've heard a lot of people say they don't like football,
and they found the show entertaining.
And I said, you said the same thing about Last Chance U,
and you end up liking that.
And she goes, fine.
And we started watching it, and she was laughing and smiling.
I'm like, okay, see.
And we got done.
I said, would you watch another one?
I don't know, maybe.
So she was playing hard to get.
I was entertained.
Did she like Derek Carr when he had his oiled-up biceps?
She didn't really care.
But the people said 54% overrated.
Overrated they did.
I think shows and movies are very hard to get the collective to vote underrated
because there's a lot of people that aren't into specific genres.
And if they just haven't seen it, they're going to say overrated.
And even if I heard about a football show and I heard four people say,
oh, you've got to watch it.
It's really good.
I'm going to be like, I think this is probably overrated.
Yeah, right, right.
But you were the only person that had really ever told me at that point.
So what did you think then?
I thought it was entertaining.
I definitely watched another one.
It's kind of always.
There's only like four or five for the year or two and then it's over.
Yeah, yeah.
And like it's fun when they get into their cuts and like the last episodes they make their last.
They have to make their last cuts.
And there's really a lot of drama behind like are these people going to make the team that they've been following and just to like
not see you know coaches especially they kind of have to put on like the politician thing when
they're in the media and to not see them like being very cautious with what they're saying
and just being a little more loose with things like that's always kind of right oh yeah there
is a real person yeah you know the team does get final, is supposed to have final say over what goes on.
Into what actually makes it.
Yeah, they're supposed to.
I don't know how that goes down exactly, but it should be a new episode for you to watch, though.
All right, all right.
And myself, I might have to watch that once we finish here.
The last topic from last week was escape rooms.
That was overwhelmingly overrated, 75%.
I did like the picture that accompanied.
And that is Ryan Gosling, rightling right yep and last week i was
talking about uh first man you know i was like i couldn't think of the guy that played near the
armstrong i said it was like ah like a shorter blonde guy that was it was ryan gosling yeah
that's who plays him and when i found that meme i was like ha that's the guy i was thinking of and
then i once i saw this then i remembered that's what his name was too but yeah he plays neil armstrong in first man well did my description fit though i said he's like kind of i would have
i would have never guessed that i don't know if he's short though i don't know i just he's an
actor aren't they usually short yeah yeah you do got a point there okay that wraps up last week's
overrated underrated segment so we can lead right into this week's underrated
overrated segment just the one-two punch yeah review and new stuff review and new out with the
old in with the new yeah as we like to say an overrated underrated topic one this was a fan
submit i can't remember who by but i did like this topic i was like that is a very good screen
you go through a pretty tough screening process with all these to really see how they could hold up under scrutiny
not every submission makes it we get a lot of submissions that have already been done before
that i say ah we've done that already we've covered a pretty vast array of topics though so
if you something comes to mind that you think that would be the perfect topic for overrated
underrated we've probably done it chances are you could just go to wikipedia and click on anything
we've probably done something there you know we've just covered
huge chunks of wikipedia this one was good though and i really i just liked where their
head was at on this one so overrated or underrated bars of soap bars of soap
um i but i just like this i was like that's a good topic for over and over. Because some people would be like, bars of soap exist even?
Yeah, yeah.
I actually personally do.
I think a lot of, I think some people would be like, bars of soap?
No, like it's a pain.
I personally enjoyed the feeling of bar soap.
Like you feel like you can really clean yourself with it.
Whereas I guess the other soap, you know,
it's like lotion and half it's like water,
the consistency of water.
Yep.
Um,
I,
I do think bar soap is underrated.
I'm not using any right now.
I did actually for several years use bar soap,
but,
we once got,
uh,
some bar soap sent to us for the podcast.
It was,
uh,
power cleans.
Yeah.
And whether you're cleaning your hands with it or even in the shower too.
Um, I only use bars of soap for in the shower, in the shower. Yeah, and whether you're cleaning your hands with it or even in the shower too. I only use bars of soap.
In the shower?
In the shower, yeah.
And that's what I did for years.
I switched once we got those power clean soap bars
and I have not gone back.
You haven't looked back?
No, I do not like out of the bottle.
Like the body wash is not as good as bars of soap.
Well, that's how I was.
And then I was a bar of soap guy for years.
And then I think just, I don't know if it was just wanting to try something different or convenience.
And when I say convenience, I'm talking about there's been grabbing soap and rubbing.
I mean, it's almost no difference.
But I try it.
And it might have even been just packaging.
The designer in me might have been pulled into the Dove body, Dove for Men, the body soap, whatever you call it.
And ever since then, I've kind of been like, oh, that's the one, and it smelled good, and I like it, and I just haven't changed.
I did one time they were out of it.
I bought some Old Spice stuff.
I don't know if I just got like a weird batch or what, but it was like the consistency just slightly thicker than water.
It just – Just running out of your hand. Yeah, like you dump the bottle upside down it comes out like the how much cleaning properties does this have so um if i
didn't if i went to the if i went to the uh the walmart target wherever and they didn't have the
dove body soap and i wanted some or i needed soap and they didn't have any i'd probably go with the
bar of soap yeah that would be my number two for sure but I still say bar of soap underrated I
think that's a good answer um this is all uh you from our last episode overrated or underrated
Quentin Tarantino you've made the comment that would make a good uh overrated underrated segment or uh i agree i did
ah wow this one is a really tricky one because i kind of think i i said this last week because
he's one of those directors that people like oh i love yeah and i don't think that's without merit
but he is also probably one of the there's probably very few directors that you can put
their name on a poster and could like get people in just off of his name being on something i mean i have a hard time just thinking off the
top of my head like who would i mean maybe steve and spielberg you know like people like that maybe
but um but he also produces so much more stuff than quentin tarantino too that it's it's a much
more rare thing for a tarantino film to pop up.
I feel like I'm kind of breaking my own rules here if I say underrated.
But you like him personally. I do like him personally.
But also he does get pretty universal acclaim for the most part.
I don't think he's ever really gotten dogged for having a bad movie.
There's probably some people out there that say,
I don't really like him.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
I mean, there was people complaining about uh once upon a time in hollywood and how it
was too male-centric and sexist and all this stuff and well wasn't that it wasn't hollywood
at that point in time probably like extremely that way yeah even like as of recently well and
also like you have a movie with brad pitt and leonardo dicaprio like yeah they're two of the like if you had a movie with two of the greatest female actresses of all time
like yeah let's just make it about them anyways like i don't know and at the same time he can
write a movie about what everyone wants to write about right yes yes yes um uh
i'm gonna say underrated i'm gonna say's a really, really tough one for me,
but I'm going to say underrated.
Underrated, okay.
Because he's so borderline to being overrated,
but I will say underrated.
Underrated on Quinton.
Overrated or underrated, Uri Belkin.
God, this is a list of hard hitters this week.
Wow.
Uri Belkin. I think yuri is still underrated
like you can't be as good as he is and be overrated like if he if he had like you know
what was it three years ago when he first kind of popped on the scene and just started like
destroying records and doing like a meet every other month if he did that and then just disappeared
i think you could make an argument that he was overrated,
like it was kind of a fluke thing.
But it's kind of getting to be a longevity behind it now.
But the fact that he actually has longevity now
and is a consistent performer.
And still does things that surprise people.
He still does.
And he doesn't always,
you don't see very often that he's going to meets
and going like eight for nine, nine for nine.
It's not unusual to see him go five for nine
or something like that.
But the fact that it's five for nine is still like the best in the world
yeah is crazy uh yeah i i still think yuri is underrated he is off one of his less impressed
you know as far as his standards this last meet you know the tribute wasn't yeah and i think he
got hurt so i think that's right but i think he's doing uh boss of bosses maybe i think he's like
staying in the the united states the entire time as far as i've seen on his i think he's like staying in the the united states the entire time
as far as i've seen on his i think he's like still in the united states maybe i don't know
that could be wrong but i know like he was doing a clinic for with oh yeah i have noticed several
of those popular i noticed someone i think he's probably used our image someone uh they used our
yuri belkin image to promote him and covered up our logo with theirs. Oh, really? I didn't see that.
Uri Belkin Clinic.
I think it was a gym in Georgia or something.
Really?
I didn't see that.
Where was the Massonomics logo on that one?
We just had the handle in the corner by him.
Oh, and they pulled it off of his post and then just put their logo really big over it.
Bastards. I mean, really, it's promotion for Uri then just put like their logo really big over it. Bastards.
I mean, really, it's promotion for Yuri.
It's not really taking much from us anyways, but I did think that was kind of funny.
Yeah.
But you did say underrated on Yuri American.
I do think Yuri's underrated, yes.
Okay.
And then I don't think we've done this topic before.
I'm sure we've done a lot similar to it, but overrated or underrated Pop-Tarts.
If you told me we had done it i'd be like yes yeah
if we have done it before it's been long enough ago that people don't remember so it's worth doing
yep yep yep and i could have there's a 50 chance that i'm going to just say the opposite thing
anyway so i think pop tarts because pop tarts are also kind of in the lifting world. Oh, put them up there with Skittles, Pop-Tarts, Donuts, Sour Patch Kids.
I should write down that.
Yeah, Skittles.
Basically, the fact that you have to associate any junk food in general with your lifting is kind of odd but um i will admit i think certain pop tarts every once in a while i'm like
oh that might be kind of like a tasty treat couldn't tell you the last time i had a pop
tart i would guess many years ago it's been a long time um so with that i mean i would say
pop tarts are overrated and then the fact that people hype them up too it's like yeah okay it
is a shitty little pre-packaged pastry like let's not dress this thing up more than what it is.
Would you be a strawberry man, the classic strawberry?
Or the other one I see most common is like the chocolate s'mores.
I would pick strawberry over s'mores.
Strawberry is kind of the classic, right?
Yeah.
The white frosting.
You want the white frosting.
Yeah, yeah.
I would pick that.
I remember growing up always having the, we had the strawberry one.
We had the cinnamon and sugar one.
That one is also, that has to be one of the original flavors.
That one, I want to say, I was going to say newer flavor,
but this flavor is probably at least 15 years old,
is like the Oreo cookies and cream one or whatever.
And that to me is, I just have a really hard time hearing an argument of
someone saying that that is not a candy bar right that is just so yeah so far they all are well yeah
i mean they all are it's just like a breakfast food well yeah it's like okay it's a dry package
donut is what it is like yeah how long has it been since you've had a pop tart probably a couple years
and the only time i can think of why i would have had one is like maybe when I was in a hotel.
Like I feel like maybe I got back to a hotel like drunk one night and I wanted food.
And like you went to a vending machine and there was Pop-Tarts.
It was like, oh, yeah, let's do some of those.
Well, but I can't actually think of the last time I actually had a Pop-Tart.
Well, do you want it toasted or not toasted?
You know, people toast.
Like I think that people almost have stopped doing that maybe. Well, the thing was when I was little, I always had a Pop-Tart. Well, do you want it toasted or not toasted? You know, people toast. Like, I think that people almost have stopped doing that maybe.
Well, the thing was, though.
When I was little, I always had them toasted.
Yes.
But I don't, do people do that anymore?
I would actually, there was a stage, this was probably in college,
where I would even pop them in the microwave for like 15 seconds
because they'd kind of get that warm and gooey center.
Yeah, yeah.
Because toasting, you know, just kind of dries things out a little bit.
Heating up a Pop-Tart turns that inside into molten lava.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
It's like, ah.
Will it melt your mouth?
It will destroy your mouth.
Yeah, no, Pop-Tarts are overrated for sure.
Okay.
That wraps up overrated and underrated.
Do we have any time?
There was something I was thinking that...
We have...
We're at about 55 minutes here.
So they won't cut us off.
The producers...
The producer will not cut us off this week.
I was thinking our big lifts.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Big lift segment.
We haven't done big lifts every single week necessarily,
but saw something just pop up today
that I thought needed to get in there.
Was big lift worthy.
Yes, it was from Big James,
Mr. Swimhack, Mr. First Comment.
And it wasn't a bench press.
It was not a bench. He made it into big lifts this week not benching.
So that's a problem.
He needs to correct that, first of all.
But he was deadlifting, and he did 783 pounds in the gym for an all-time PR.
I think his best deadlift before that was 777 in competition
uh and i commented on there that he needs to be careful otherwise people are going to start
thinking he's a deadlift specialist yeah it's like he's a deadlift guy yeah like oh who's this guy
that's always posting these big deadlifts does he do anything besides the deadlift yeah can this guy
even bench yep it's just gonna go on to go right on to the next thing.
And he's competing at Boss of Bosses 6 here.
I think that's coming up in two or three weeks.
And now you'd have to assume it's his goal is to deadlift 800 pounds in the competition.
I'd be curious to see if he gets one of his goals for the meet.
I'll be curious to see if he could get that 800-pound pull.
And then we mentioned it.
We talked about it before we started rolling here that
he if he does he will have benched over 650 in competition and deadlifted over 800 pounds in
competition and i just that has to be very rare i would think yeah like carill came to mind yeah
he's probably i bet he's the only other person that's done it.
Yeah.
Maybe I'm missing someone.
But the list of 650 benchers alone is so short.
Oh, yeah, it's a very, very small group. And a lot of them are just bench guys, you know.
Like only bench.
Yeah, that compete bench only.
I bet it's just him and Kirill probably, if he can pull 800 pounds,
which it sure looks like he can.
Yeah, based on how that one moved,
I didn't think by any means that that was the absolute top limit.
I think there's more there.
No.
Which is so weird about the combination of those two lifts
because it's like the literal things that make you genetically dispositioned
to be good at one are the opposite but each other you're not so
different either though those are your two that's true that is true like relatively you know not
necessarily the 650 800 scale but it's a little different split yeah on my scale those are yeah
that's true i didn't even think about that when i uh i wasn't even thinking about that but those
two don't necessarily out of any combination combination of the lifts, those two are the…
Well, yeah, usually the people you see that their deadlift is the best, you look at them and it's like, well, yeah, their hands touch their kneecaps.
Right, right.
It makes sense.
You're pulling off of blocks, your natural built-in blocks.
We'd have to…
And that doesn't carry over to a bench.
Right.
Those people typically have a bad bench.
I'd be curious. James can probably fill us in on this, and he probably will carry over to a bench. Those people typically have a bad bench. I'd be curious.
James can probably fill us in on this,
and he probably will after listening to this,
but I'd be curious.
We've done it on the podcast even before you can do your measurements
and see where you pan out on the ratio.
I'm curious where he does, because just looking at him,
he doesn't appear to have very short arms.
No.
He doesn't look like the bench guys that have these short arms. No, he doesn't appear to have very short arms. No. He doesn't look like the bench guys that have these short arms.
No, he doesn't.
But it's weird that bench was always like his first meet,
his rookie card that we did, his bench is 500 pounds and his squat is 400.
That may be an exaggeration.
Yeah, but it was like not the numbers you typically associate with a first meet.
No.
But that is interesting that he's kind of excelling so well at your combination of those two lifts.
You just don't see it very often, I don't think.
No, no, I agree.
You don't see that.
I think a strong bench and a strong squat are a fairly common combination.
Yeah.
I think a strong squat and a strong deadlift aren't that odd of a combination
either since you know a lot of it's coming from your lower body yeah but the deadlift and the
bench that's probably is the most unusual pain yeah yeah it is food for thought something to
think about for next week yes but congratulations james on making yeah yeah super impressive yes
the fact that he made it into the segment is well yeah i super impressive yes the fact that he made it into
the segment is well yeah i mean that yeah the fact that we let him in yes yes the deadlift is okay
but making it into big lifts that's what it's all about bossa bossa should be shaping up to be a
pretty pretty cool meat to watch though here yeah you know as a spectator like that's td smash sport
that's what you want to see he must be be competing in that too. I think so.
I don't know if he's doing full power or bench. I think he is.
Is he doing full power?
Because he posted like a 775-pound squat the other day and stuff like that.
Some of that stuff is, you know, it takes some work for him to hit depth, I think.
You know, he's a large, large man.
Yeah, there's a lot of guy there.
He is.
He's just enormous.
Yes.
I'd like to see Julius do a full power meet someday, too.
Maybe after he breaks the all-time world record bench,
he'll give it a go.
Yeah.
Yeah, that'd be cool.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I think that just about wraps up this show.
What do you think?
I think so.
I think we covered all the finer points for this week.
Yeah.
There's always next week.
Well, there is.
