Starting point is 00:01:08 Check them out online at spud-ink-straps.com. And now Tommy. Wow, that was big time right there. That was good stuff. Yes, so if you didn't notice, we do have sponsors to the Massanomics podcast now. It's a wild world we live in here. We've joked about it for probably about 178 prior episodes about all of our fake sponsors, but we have real ones now.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Here we are. Yeah, we don't even have to pretend about it anymore. Yeah, amazing. It is kind of messed up that we don't have anything to pretend about now. We'll find other things. Yeah, we'll figure out something we'll find other things we always have a way of doing that yeah um so uh we got those uh we'll hear more from our sponsors later in the episode but uh exciting to to do that for the very first time oh for sure for sure so on the podcast we if you've listened for for more than for one episode or more you know
Starting point is 00:02:07 that uh we don't talk about all that serious of matters all that time in fact you could say we almost avoid it yes we do almost by design we do that uh but i did have something go on in my life here really recently that you know it's pretty personal thing. And, but it is something I kind of wanted to share on the podcast for a couple of reasons that I'll get to here, but I had probably the most, uh, you know, hard to deal with tragic, um, you know, heart-wrenching thing that without a doubt that's ever gone on in my life and my family's life, my older sister, uh, passed away. Uh, Starla Baird, she was at the age of 35 here just really recently. She passed away from a pulmonary embolism and it was completely out of the blue shock
Starting point is 00:02:54 to me and my family, of course. And, you know, there's been a ton of tears shed and we're still in the, as of the time we're recording this it's it's only been been a few days since it's even happened but um i guess what i wanted to say is that she's always legitimately been my my largest supporter with everything that i've done in my life but almost especially massonomics you know that's uh been a really big deal to her and she has legitimately not missed a minute like this recording now will be the first thing that she ever, you know, didn't didn't tune into on Sunday evening on YouTube. She she would either watch on YouTube or listen on Monday. or listen on Monday. And I would always have a message from her, you know, saying something funny that she liked, or, you know, maybe, maybe even a criticism or, uh, advice or advice about topics or something that she thought, usually it was something she thought was funny or like
Starting point is 00:03:57 sending me a meme that was related to something we've been talking about. And, um, she's a, was a big animal lover and would always have a comment to me about Bernie whenever he's in the scene. Yep, yep. I've seen all those. When we used to record with Tyler when Fletch, his dog was in there, she always picks that out and always wants more of the dogs on the show. But she honestly has been my biggest supporter and um just talking relating to other things to what we do on this show and her she was also uh really big into the gym scene herself personally you know she didn't have to want to be interested in mass economics just because it's her brother
Starting point is 00:04:39 she was legitimately interested in it because she was also a lifter she's been doing crossfit was legitimately interested in it because she was also a lifter. She's been doing CrossFit for over five years. I can't remember when she first started, but she's, uh, has always been in huge, huge to that. And she, you know, I was kind of jealous of her in some way. She has much better looking squat than I ever, ever had, or that I ever will have. And, uh, you know, she's also more talented at it than I ever will be too. Like, uh, she has a, it's, you know, usually people, uh, when you're comparing people, you like to use a genetics as an excuse. So I, someone could be stronger, but when it's my own sister, I could never really use that excuse because I think we're dealing with pretty, pretty similar set of genetics, but, but uh she just always had an ability to
Starting point is 00:05:25 really excel at the strength stuff and uh something that i was thinking about was um i threw shot put and discus in high school just as a comparison of how much better she could be at this stuff than i could be with no matter how much i tried you know she just took to it naturally uh it took me until my my junior year to finally make it to state track and field to throw discus and shot put you know I went my junior and senior year and I never could place you know my senior year I should have placed in shot put but I choked and uh and by place I mean like top eight you know not like I was never in contention of winning it uh you know if i would
Starting point is 00:06:05 have not choked i could have maybe got fifth place or something which would have been exciting for me when i'm an 18 year old and she either five or six years straight made the finals of uh for shot put at uh the state track and field tournament and you're only in high school for four years typically yes so she she also went as an eighth grader and i think even a seventh grader wow which she didn't she didn't end up winning she placed in the top three of the podium several times and as a senior she got second and then i still remember it there was a girl that uh had my sister had at one and a girl came up on her you get three throws and the prelims and in the finals and in the finals on the third throw this girl came up and threw
Starting point is 00:06:54 one to beat her by just a few inches really and this was uh my sister talked to this girl years later and um that was the farthest she had ever thrown in her life by far and never threw that far again in her life. So it just it just, you know, and it's probably the way it was meant to be or whatever. But it's just she kind of I always felt like she got kind of robbed out of that one. Besides that, I also looked up to her in softball, too. I can remember being I was probably in junior high or even younger than that, maybe grade school. And they were at state softball and I was there watching and she was a power hitter. And she hit one to left field that was like, it was a home run, but it was like a line drive home run that the scoreboard was in left field.
Starting point is 00:07:40 And it hit the scoreboard, not in a way that it was like a high arcing ball. It wasn't coming down. No, it smashed the scoreboard. Like it legitimately broke part of the scoreboard because it smashed into it so hard. And as a kid, I just, you know, my sister that was three years older than me, I remember thinking, wow, when do I get to be able to do that? And it turns out I never could do that in softball.
Starting point is 00:08:04 You don't get to be able to do that and it turns out i never could do that it's awful uh you don't get to yeah so those those are just you know kind of the couple of the um fun memories that i think of about her as it relates to massonomics and everything and i i know that uh you know she's not here anymore but she'll find her own way to listen to this and i did would just kind of want to dedicate this episode to her and she means a lot to me obviously and that's kind of tough to say yeah i mean it's it's it's not hard to say in the way that uh it's easy to say because i mean it all of course and everything and it's you know but i don't often talk like that all that often but this last few weeks there's been a lot of uh talking like that where i'm me as a guy and as a guy that
Starting point is 00:08:45 doesn't talk like that very often it's difficult to say but i did want this to have this record of this to be able to listen to you know in years to come yeah i i think that's amazing that you did that tanner uh you know i i only had the chance to meet her a couple times and every time i did like it was obvious she was like Massanomics number one fan. It was probably more unusual for her to not leave a comment on a post or anything that we were doing. And she was very in the loop on all of it. So it was obvious from day one that she was 100% all about this. And like the strongman competition,
Starting point is 00:09:20 she was there like two hours before anyone else just to be there and see what's going on yes she never met if she did miss a few of my competitions but never by choice like she would do whatever uh you know and oftentimes it was a five hour plus drive from where she was at and they're not fun outside of the ones that we put on like just in case someone's been to it before action packed isn't typically the word you use but she loved it you know she she really it's easier to glorify people after things happen but she was legitimately my largest fan you know and uh i don't have that doesn't offend my wife saying you know my my wife is a good supporter of mine but she does think some of the things are a little silly or a
Starting point is 00:10:02 little stupid sometimes but my sister did not. She loved every bit about this stuff. There was one other thing I was just thinking that I don't want to forget, but now I can't remember. That's unfortunate, but that kind of sums it up. I'm going to miss her, and my whole family is going to miss her, and I was fortunate to see so many people from, uh, work and like her,
Starting point is 00:10:28 the different CrossFit gym she's been at that I've gotten so many messages from like, uh, those communities. And it just kind of does show what those gym communities are, are really like, uh, in times of serious stuff like this,
Starting point is 00:10:40 you know, it's usually fun. Like I, I think of the gym as fun, but it also is a pretty big support system for something like this too yes and it absolutely is this show that like I mean there was a lot of people I think you could say coming out of the woodwork for this thing yes yes definitely and and the the gym for me uh has been pretty important uh pretty important for the last couple days getting to the gym when there's other people there and it's it's helpful
Starting point is 00:11:04 it's not like uh it makes me forget about her and i wouldn't want it to do that but it's just good to do things that are normal and you're you know a little more normal and just like recording this podcast that's recording this podcast uh you know i talked about it with my wife and said well i don't know should i should i do one this week or should i just give it a little more time or what and you know i think the consensus is my sister would be mad at me if there was not a podcast of to be listened to she would be upset with me she did not like in the past where we had somewhere i you know you or i weren't involved uh like and tyler went on some trips and that's oh yeah and she was would let me know that, you know, she doesn't want me to, yeah, that's not cool and that's not okay.
Starting point is 00:11:49 So I know she would want me to be, that she'd want me to be talking on it and talking about our normal stuff and having fun like we always do. And that's a great way to look at it. You know, I was going into this week thinking, I probably won't really hear from Tanner, and I completely understand. But when you look at it that way, it makes perfect sense. Yeah, that's great.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Yeah, and thanks to all the people. I wanted to share something on the podcast because I feel like the podcast is a pretty personal thing for you and I. It's literally you and I talking for hundreds and hundreds of hours out there that we have us chatting out there that has been out in the audio waves. Our Massonomics Instagram is a little less personal, you know, it's by design. So I'm not really going to post much of anything on there, but I did kind of put something out there that alluded to what's happening. there but i did kind of put something out there that alluded to what's happening and i would just say thank you got a lot of really good messages from you know people that i know have always supported us and that i appreciate that that's that's that's helpful for sure yeah and it just
Starting point is 00:12:56 shows that we got awesome people in our lives that really do care about yes the other thing that i was going to forget that i remember now is our products that we sell. She loved that stuff, too. And I would get an earful if we would come to like a Christmas or a birthday and I would not give her something. Oh, really? Masonomics. I would hear about that. So that this Christmas, I did not. We did. Me and my wife did not get her something Masonomicsics i thought oh let's get her something else like i yeah yeah i just thought i was doing something nice for her and it's been uh since then it's been you know six months of me hearing about how like you blew someone asked her if she i my mom or we were talking or someone said well do you have that shirt and she's like no he hasn't
Starting point is 00:13:40 given me that one you know and so that's what i which leads me to when we had the episode where you and i both picked up equipment here a few weeks ago and i traveled to minneapolis where my sister uh lived and picked up some equipment and i was this is just a few weeks ago now and i'm really glad i stopped and i planned it out with her and her and i had lunch together and i brought her one of the new lift glasses. And she really liked that, of course. And it kind of got her off my back on the massonomics merchandise for a little while. But that's probably, you know, like that's probably what I have to say about that for right now. But I appreciate all the support from everyone.
Starting point is 00:14:20 But now she would be happy if we went and she wouldn't want an hour-long dramatic episode. That is tough to follow up, though, Terry. But we will just have to go ahead and just transition into something fun because that's what she would want and that's the way it's going to be. I guess, man, it's the most heartfelt we've ever been easily on this thing. That's probably the one time. It's the most heartfelt we've ever been easily on this thing. That's probably the one time. So we, like I said, we probably recorded a, you know, $200 of this and I've probably never,
Starting point is 00:14:55 well, maybe then for more than five or 10 seconds at a time at most ever said anything that's really, you know, all that personal, like maybe things about our lives, but not very personal stuff about our lives. Yeah. So this is your first episode i promise if this is your first episode this um this is not the usual i mean yes yes but yes we'll get back to that right now though so okay okay i gotta switch the gears okay okay uh we do have some good good topics to talk about today i am really excited about us having the sponsors though that is i am too well and i and i told when i met with her we
Starting point is 00:15:33 had just found out about the sponsors and i got to tell her about that and she was so pumped uh that was really fun that we got to talk about having these sponsors and i am really excited to have these sponsors so we've got a couple what part of what makes it so exciting is because we like we like legitimately support the sponsors that we have now and we may uh at one point in time here have one or two more that we've talked with and also companies that we're ecstatic about working with because they're legitimate stuff uh when you and i have sat here sat around and talked about this uh moving towards having actual sponsors that was something that's pretty important to us is is working with some companies that uh we actually
Starting point is 00:16:16 get behind because we spend a lot of time on this podcast ragging about stuff that sucks we do and how would that make us look all of a sudden right so we do not want to be hypocrites and we can rest easy at night knowing that we, we aren't being hypocrites with the sponsorship. For sure. Yeah. But you did, uh, you kind of were up to some, some, some of your old school shenanigans this weekend. Some mischievous boys time.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I did have the privilege this weekend of having the second bachelor party that I've gone to in the last three weeks, four weeks. So, I mean, that's always a good time. And this one, we headed off across to the west side of the state. And where we live, heading across the state is just, you know, like six hours is all. A quick six-hour drive.
Starting point is 00:17:00 A quick six-hour drive. So we headed out to the majestic black hills of south dakota and uh my throat i don't know if you can tell my throat's feeling it a little bit still today even it was really having trouble talking yesterday but uh you know you rent a cabin out in the hills with the guys and just kind of see what happens and as you can imagine wild things start to happen uh yeah the the big the shirts come off the shirts do come off yeah the shirts don't last long at all um the the big plan we didn't really have much for plans besides you know one get together do some drinking and then the one planned event was to do some
Starting point is 00:17:35 paintball and tan have you ever played paintball in your days yeah in high school uh a high school classmate of mine had a of the his the, his family ran a paintball business. So we would get to go do that. So you got a little, it's been quite a while, but, and that was, I was in a similar situation where in high school,
Starting point is 00:17:52 I had a friend that lived on a farm, had the space for it. And so we'd get people together. And, um, I mean, I enjoyed it. I was never like,
Starting point is 00:17:59 it's the greatest thing ever. Uh, but this time was the biggest group I played with. It was, so this was also the first time I played in over 10 years now, I think. But there was, I think, 15 of us. And then there was like three randoms mixed in, which I was thinking, if you're the three randoms with 15 guys,
Starting point is 00:18:17 like that's got to be a... Oh, yeah. And on top of that, you know, we're all between the ages of like 27. And they were 16. And like 32. And I think the youngest one might have been 13 or 14. They were very... I mean, to the point where they had to have an adult there with them. So that was probably not the ideal situation.
Starting point is 00:18:33 But paintball was a lot of fun. We were talking, too. If you don't go with a whole crew of your buddies, it's probably not that great because you don't have the war stories to talk about with people. Right. I got you there, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:46 For sure. It was really good. The one thing that surprised us is when we got there, the guy running it goes, are you going to have the bachelor run the gauntlet? We're like, what's the gauntlet? He gets shot by everyone. Just all the guys just line up, and then the bachelor runs, and you guys just unload on him. Sounds great. It's like, well, yeah, of course we want to do it but why would a bachelor why would the bachelor
Starting point is 00:19:08 ever go yeah let's do that yeah and could you talk him into it it didn't take persuading he said yeah or like we made the joke like all right all right kev you ready to do that he goes okay yeah and we were kind of almost like did a double check like uh is he there is something about being the bachelor where you almost just know that like you kind of got it you gotta step it up a little bit and i mean he he stepped it up like it was uh did he take his shirt off or anything he didn't take his shirt off but like looking back in hindsight like you would think okay he's running like maybe like we'll line up you know 50 60 feet away to maybe make it a little tougher to hit a little more distance and also hurt a
Starting point is 00:19:45 little less from that yeah we were maybe maybe at the very most 30 feet it was probably closer to 20 that's awesome and he probably had to sprint about 25 30 yards like across you yeah across like we lined up so you kept shooting like yeah and i i i honestly felt bad i I don't think I legit pulled the trigger that many times. Not compared to some of the guys. I know some of the guys pulled the trigger a lot. But yeah, he did it. And he had the welts to show for it too. Was he screaming or anything at the time?
Starting point is 00:20:17 No, he just went through and he didn't say much at the end. And then later on, he was like, yeah, you guys really got me there. But he was a really good sport about it. And then, you know, we were in the Deadwood area. And in Deadwood, South Dakota, there's all, you know, it's like a little tiny mini Vegas, you could say. All types of table games and Wild West town shenanigans taking place. So, yeah, we hit up the town, did all the things. You know, some of the guys are up $500 to $600 and then not too long later down to five, $600 like you
Starting point is 00:20:50 would expect. Those are the, those are the things that happen. Yeah. You know, Tanner, I, the, it seems like I have a knack for seeing you at saloon number 10. I wasn't there this time. I was thinking maybe just maybe I'll see Tanner pop up on the Texas hold'em table. You didn't show up.
Starting point is 00:21:04 It is funny how we, that has randomly happened before. Were we recording the podcast yet at that point in time? I don't know if we even were. It was very early on, if we were. Yeah, and neither of us had communicated that we were going to be... Going all the way across the state to this gambling city. And I was sitting there playing poker or something. It was close to midnight, and I looked over,
Starting point is 00:21:28 and there's Tanner with his Masonomics hat on, gambling the night away with a stack of chips in front of him. He's like, oh, you made it, huh? Because I'm here, too. Yeah. That is so funny. Yeah. But, you know, yeah, just any time you have a bachelor party,
Starting point is 00:21:42 there's just bound to be some dumb things that happen. And most of the things are probably things you can't talk about on the podcast, you know, but definitely for the bachelor's sake. Yeah. Yeah. And probably everyone's podcast.
Starting point is 00:21:52 He does listen to the podcast. So he'll definitely be hearing this, but yeah. Yeah. Things we probably better off for everyone not talking about here, but as a group, we will talk about for a very, very long time.
Starting point is 00:22:03 So that is the way. So it was a, it was a win-win and also... But don't you want a win-win-win? Well, I mean, it would be that until someone gets mad about what I discussed and then it would be a win-win-win-lose. Yeah. But probably the icing on the cake then
Starting point is 00:22:22 was coming back on Sunday, the fact that Labor Day was Monday. So I had an extra day to recover in there, which was very much needed. Well needed. Yeah. And that was my weekend. Well, that's a good weekend. Yeah, it was a fun one.
Starting point is 00:22:37 Fun one for sure. Do we talk about lifting now, Tanner? We could talk about lifting. It is a lifting podcast about nothing. It's about nothing nothing but it still is supposed to be a little bit about lifting i suppose i suppose especially we have this contractual agreement with now all of our sponsors that we have or we should probably discuss lifting related things a little yeah that does make sense um probably the big one would be boss of bosses was this past weekend yeah i think there was kind of a lot of interesting stuff that happened at this power lifting meet about as much that can happen that can and full
Starting point is 00:23:10 disclosure based off of what we've just spent the last 20 minutes talking about neither of us didn't get a whole lot of time to catch up on what did go down i think we've caught most of the highlights probably off of instagram yeah since in the last couple days I've looked at some stuff and caught some of the stuff. There's definitely some noteworthy stuff that we're probably going to have to touch on. And probably even miss out on too just because it's hard to keep track of all of it. But I guess the first one would be highest Wilks. I mean, if you're concerned about Wilks,
Starting point is 00:23:43 CeCe had the highest wilks of the entire thing with uh a wilks of 663 so you could say that's a pretty big number right and her total were you saying that it was i believe i'd have to do some more research i thought i read somewhere that she had the second highest women's total of all time and it was a 1626 total that she put up via 650 squat 375 bench and 600 deadlift that squat is insane we it's like we do not have anyone at our gym that squats that much no no we don't and that's just like so far away from even like being a thing for me right now yeah it's like man it just seems like untouchable you know that's very and i don't think anyone's shocked by that either like no she was going to be doing that at some point and she'll
Starting point is 00:24:31 probably even break that again at some point here but 375 benches i mean all of them i don't we don't even have to just talk about every one of our lifts i know i know and that's really like what one is the more impressive there the 650 squat 375 bench 600 deadlift i still think it's the 650 squat because it's just i think so the 375 bench is a very close second especially when you consider this is a female weight 181 like yes that's really really like tough to wrap your head around and the 600 deadlift is still insane but you do see people you know pushing the deadlift a lot more right the deadlift is the one that can be an anomaly sometimes more often so yes definitely definitely but man like that is a killer performance uh
Starting point is 00:25:11 just and i'm on open powerlifting here looking at the uh results and the default sorting is by wilkes so you know if we look at the top five cc's number one christy haw Hawkins, two, Uri Belkin, three, Jen Smith, four, Suzanne Davis, five. I'm just trying to see if, you know, like those are all big names right there. And that's by Wilkes. You know, once we start to look at total, you know, there were several 2000 plus pound performances, you know, very notable. Uri Belkin going 2350. Right. Probably his biggest total of all time, I believe.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Yes. His biggest total of all time i believe yes his biggest total of all time and this is still in he weighed in at 220.4 pounds so he's in the 220 late weight class he squatted 917 benched 518 and deadlifted 915 also there again just like cc what do you even say i don't know what what's the most impressive i don't know. What's the most impressive? I don't even know. I don't either because he's so known for the deadlift. But also like a 917 squat there is really, really rare. And then a 518 bench. Like you're benching over 500. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:17 At like 220. And you're not like a bench specialist by any means either. No. I think less and less really is he a deadlift guy. And he just is a just the huge all around yeah he's just he's the i'm really really good at all of the lifts yeah i mean that's what you have to go yeah like you have to go about it like that if you're going to be putting up huge totals yeah that's 23 50 at 220 i mean he's just he's like right nipping on the
Starting point is 00:26:41 heels of the strongest super heavyweights currently and of all time. Just the more you see that, you just think, if he gained 20 pounds, would that just put him in just a stupid caliber of athlete? Or is it just like, no, the weight doesn't even matter for him at all? That's just what he is. You'd have to think if he could get to the top of the 242 class. I mean, that's kind of like what Ed Cohn did through his career. He went up a few classes at a time. It'll be exciting to see if Uri does, in time, jump up a little bit. But that does not seem to be his trend.
Starting point is 00:27:16 It sure doesn't seem like he's interested in gaining weight. But does he even need to? He just keeps getting better at 220 pounds. He does, yeah. Why go up if you're still improving? What's the point of just putting weight on to put weight on? Yeah, as far as he's concerned, he probably doesn't think he's reached his potential in 220.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Right. I guess he hasn't really given us any reasons to think that he has either. Yes, exactly. So keep that rolling. Yeah. But then just looking at the biggest totals uh next one jeff yunker i don't think i've heard of him before yeah he competed at uh he just followed us messonomics on instagram today oh okay he competed at um tribute meet oh did he
Starting point is 00:28:00 and that was kind of my first uh okay uh getting a little more exposure to him but very strong guy also obviously but yeah with a 2199 total so yeah pretty much talking 2200 i know people don't like us to round up one pound but i am going to round up one pound and say you know essentially a 2200 don't do that you don't want the hellfire that'll rain down on you for that uh right shortly behind him james strickland who's that again a friend of the podcast you could say uh the 21 82 total we've talked about this before starting to look less and less like a bench specialist and more and more like a total guy yeah i keep sending him the hashtag uh commenting hashtag total only i have noticed that a few times. And I really, I'm really proud of that.
Starting point is 00:28:45 And like that, that he, James is now a total only guy. And his numbers, a seven 60 squat PR six 39 bench, a full meet PR and a seven 82 deadlift PR. I'm pretty sure also. So yeah,
Starting point is 00:29:04 for like a five 55 Wilkes, like that's a really good meet. Right. right he he really is not a bench only i mean like there's no way to say that anymore both of his other two lifts are almost 800 pounds and his total is pushing 2200 pounds yeah like i mean his squat and deadlift are pretty even which is not unusual at that level at all and his bench isn't far behind them uh and i do think that that maybe in maybe it's in the 308 class that is the largest bench press in a full power meet of all time i did see that pop up as possibly being a stat so yeah that if that is the case that's really impressive yes 639 bent that a40-pound bench when you're doing it after setting a squat PR is... Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me.
Starting point is 00:29:51 But also not surprised because after having paid close attention and keeping an eye on his training leading up to it, you could tell that he was going to hit some PRs assuming he was healthy. So not that surprising. that he was going to hit some PRs assuming he was healthy. So not that surprising. And I suppose now what do you think is a bigger honor for him, this performance at Boss of Bosses or his performance on First Comment on the YouTube channel?
Starting point is 00:30:16 That's always good to me. I like to think if he was in an over-under situation, what one would he say is underrated and overrated? And that would be one of those ones where you've got to really split. It's like I can see the merit in both, but it be very, one of those ones where you got to really split, you know, it's like, I can see the merit in both, but it's very, very tough.
Starting point is 00:30:28 I don't know what that is. Also, do you know James's age? Did I see, what did he do? 36 or 38? Nine. 39.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Okay. Yeah. So almost 40 and the strongest and continuing to get much stronger consistently. Would you, maybe his plan this whole time was just to peak for masters he's just going after those masters records yeah he wants to be his strongest right when he hits that's probably what it was i bet not a bad plan he's playing the long game yeah yes good thinking but it seems like he's staying injury free at this level which is yeah at this
Starting point is 00:31:01 level and starting to injury free as anyone well especially when you start to get north of 30. That is when it's a lot easier for that stuff to pile on. So keep doing your thing. Not too far behind him was Andrew Herbert, Herbie the Love Bug. Yeah, friend of the podcast. Yep, and Joe Sullivan was right in there too as well. Joe looks good rocking a lot of different Massanova shirts.
Starting point is 00:31:25 I really liked, I don't know who had the yellow shirt, yellow hair to match his don't curl in shirt. Yeah, and someone had a picture of him like, do the carpet match the drapes? Yeah. I really liked that. Big John posted that. Okay, yeah, that was really funny.
Starting point is 00:31:40 That was really funny. I think he kind of, I saw something he said, maybe he didn't have quite the meat that he was hoping to, Big Joe, but that happens to the best of them. We're still talking a 2,000, what, 66-pound total? Yeah. Still, really good. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:57 I'm just looking at the list quick here, just any notable names. Quads like Rob had his first meet in quite a while. Also, Rob hall come back for after over a year and a half out of lifting and put up a uh like a 21 fifth what was do i have that right rob hall was 21 44 what was quads like uh uh he had a total of 2105 okay and what did what did rob squat uh he had a pr squat 936 okay 936 937 yeah so it's a good squat yes yes uh is what he that is kind of his thing uh friend of the podcast hayden bowe competed in this meet and i think he had a total pr what was he can be in the 198 weight class and put up 1736 squatted 700 pounds and i think that was a pr squat for him i'm sure it was yeah
Starting point is 00:32:55 that's that's pretty impressive uh hybrid performance big hayden but one thing that we didn't catch here not in full power oh as long as we're on full power, where's he at here? It would be under, if we were sorting by total, Big TD Smash. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes, yes, yes, yes. We'd be remiss not to talk about what he did. Where's he at on here? This is for sure one of the more notable things.
Starting point is 00:33:23 Got to find it. Sometimes that's the tricky part i don't know if i see his uh oh what what is his it's davis uh thomas davis okay i found it so he was in the the super heavyweight uh weight class there we go yeah weighed in at 436. Big TD smash is a large man. And we know that because he, he stopped by the massonomics booth at the Arnold this year. And he is very big.
Starting point is 00:33:54 That was, I mean, besides seeing like the strongman guys that you know are like, we know when Brian Shaw walks by that guy's huge. Yeah. You know, we, we know when those guys go by,
Starting point is 00:34:03 they're going to look big, but TD smash, you see him on a bench a lot. don't really know how big like you're like yeah it's a big dude but yeah when you look at him like he's like as wide as three guys that lift actually yes he uh often seen in the overalls if you're if you're not very familiar but you should follow him if you don't him and julius are pretty good buddies. It always looks like they're hanging around each other. So he made the switch over to full power for the first time, kind of been a bench-only guy in the USAPL historically. And he put up an 810 squat.
Starting point is 00:34:36 And keep in mind, this is a quote-unquote bench-only guy. An 810 squat, a 623 bench in full power, and an 805 deadlift for a 22 38 total so there you go another guy that's supposed to be bench only that's squatting over 800 and pulling over 800 it just freaks out there everywhere i guess that that's that is the case and for someone like him the way how enormous he is like a lot of times people have trouble deadlifting it seems like uh for him to have an 805 deadlift is just just extremely impressive i think it really is it really is uh but but that was leading me into what i was thinking big julius had a day and also i want to see what julius weighed in at
Starting point is 00:35:23 can you find that i'm looking right now i want okay do you think he weighs more or less than thomas davis well i already looked i already looked okay so do i think he weighs more or less yeah what are your guesses for what are your guesses on the weight here he okay so we're talking about how big thomas td smash is we saw him at the arnold we also met uh julius at at the Arnold he came over and then you know he didn't need to introduce him but I knew who it was but somewhat recognizable but he is we're having a hard time describing Thomas Davis Julius Maddox is not describable he his upper body it like I don't even know how.
Starting point is 00:36:07 You've never seen anything like you haven't. I do not know which one of those. If I was to guess, I'd say Julius weighs more. Is that your final answer? That's my guess. That is your final guess here, Jay. Okay. This is the first ever segment of who weighs more. That should be a segment.
Starting point is 00:36:20 We could start doing this because the data is available. So the first ever segment of who weighs more you are picking Julius Maddox over TD smash Tanner on the first ever segment ever you are correct okay now do you want to guess some numbers here yeah so TD smash was 436 we said
Starting point is 00:36:38 we know that big Julius weighs more and like I said he is freaking big like I don't know to me in my head i'm thinking does he weigh more or less than 450 pounds i'm just gonna say he weighs 448 wow okay 449.5 so the lineup 450 was a really good spot to put that yeah wow he is that is a big man freaking big yeah that is just a really that's what brian shaw weighs yeah yeah and that's a big dude too their weights i mean their frame is a little different you know but talk when people say
Starting point is 00:37:21 that dude doesn't have a neck julius does not have a neck he has just this up this back that he does it just there aren't people that look like him like he's a complete uh complete uh what is it like a red herring or that's not what that is just a liar yeah yeah yeah and any of those things would apply yes uh we're gonna get back to this in a second we have a couple ads to run through quick. Beautiful. So you can take a break, think about it. I'm going to go slam or LaCroix.

Starting point is 00:39:28 but is sometimes difficult to get here in the States. So a great spot to check out. They got the connection on that for sure. Yes, yes, and good prices on both of those things. And that's not part of our ad. That's just like my own personal opinion on what they're doing there. From a guy that buys a lot of stuff. Yes, right. The Mass Anomics Podcast is also brought to you by sputting straps sputting has
Starting point is 00:39:49 a complete pulley system for your gym smash your triceps lats and upper back the options are limitless you can use free weights bands and even chains to do push downs for triceps lat pull downs and many other exercises there's no need to spend hundreds of dollars on a fancy machine when their simple pulley system does the same thing for less money. The Econopulley is designed for use in racks that are around 6 to 7 feet tall, and extensions are available for taller racks. The pulley system is much more affordable than a lat pull-down machine and offers limitless options of exercises you can perform. It is quick and easy to set up and take down,
Starting point is 00:40:23 and it's built with strong nylon-coated cable that can take constant wear and tear so you know what's going to last you want that you do want that check out spud ink online for their pulley system and other great products at spud hyphen ink hyphen straps.com and be sure to follow them on instagram at spud ink straps thank you to our sponsors yeah and on that that pulley system from spud inc we don't have that but a really good reliable source i know that i've heard talk about is brandon campbell brandon diamond uh youtube fitness guy reviews i'm not gonna explain you guys know who he is uh he has it and uses it and recommends it uh very economical choice and also just works very well so especially for someone that's like a home gym
Starting point is 00:41:05 garage gym person you're probably not going to go out and buy a lat pull down machine or maybe like a cable crossover spend thousands of dollars on that for like a hundred bucks give or take a little bit you can have that set up in your own rack at your home gym and he is a critical reviewer of products and gave it his stamp of approval. So I think that that really means something. It does. And we don't have the pulley system specifically, but we have countless other sputting. And not once have we ever been like, hmm, the quality was a little.
Starting point is 00:41:35 I mean, it's always above and beyond what you would call indestructible even. So it's top-notch stuff. And that's why we're excited to have both these companies on board. Amen. Because we completely agree with what they're doing. That's damn-notch stuff. And that's why we're excited to have both these companies on board. Amen. Because we completely agree with what they're doing. That's damn right. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Now that we're done with ads, Tanner, there's one more thing that we got to discuss. Kind of a takeaway from the boss of bosses. There's a lifter. I think if you're in the know paying attention to people, you're probably familiar with him. And his name is Jamal Browner. We were lucky enough to meet him at the Arnold. He swung by the booth, got to talk to him for a little bit. And he was in the 275 pound weight class, weighing in at 255.
Starting point is 00:42:17 So he was not weight cutting or anything, obviously. No, not at all. That's what he walked around at. So on the meet, he squatted 750 benched 475 and deadlifted 821 and mostly you'll be like damn that's a pretty respectable thing 821 that's pretty good um if you know him though you know 821 is not what you've been able to see him do right right and so his total was 2045 pounds. Shortly after the meet, I want to say this was yesterday, I think. Yeah, it was just maybe like two days after.
Starting point is 00:42:50 So it would have been, yeah, two days after the meet. He said, my coach gave me the approval for my annual post-meet YOLO deadlift session. Which I loved that way of putting it. And so what does he do? How do you follow up a meet deadlift of 821? What do you follow that up with? Well, if you're Jamal Browner, you follow it up with a sumo deadlift with straps of 1,015 pounds, which that's 195 pounds. Like that is a very, very different lift.
Starting point is 00:43:19 Was 820 whatever his third attempt or did he miss his third attempt? I think that was actually his first attempt. I think he had grip issues on the other two. Okay. And so I believe that one of his takeaways on the video of 1015 said, I am only pulling hook grip from now on. Which, okay, yeah, there's definitely a lot more. There's no doubt about there's more strength there.
Starting point is 00:43:38 It really is coming down to a grip issue. But 1015, so that brings up the conversation of, is this the strongest sumo deadlift of all time? Like by the numbers you're saying. Yeah, like actually not even like, oh, pound for pound. No, just like the highest sumo deadlift ever pulled. Not necessarily in competition. This was not in competition.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Yeah, this was not in competition. Anywhere that anyone's seen. A known recorded instance of it. And we know that Chris Duffin has pulled 1,000 for a double. Yeah, a touch-and-go double. Touch-and-go double. Also, I'm not poo-pooing it by saying, oh, touch-and-go double.
Starting point is 00:44:15 I'm just saying that's what it was. Yeah, that is what he did, yeah. Like, oh, not good. He didn't touch-and-go. So, yeah, I mean, there's standards in the gym. Also wearing straps when Duffin did it. Yep, yep, definitely. But I don't think there is a higher instance.
Starting point is 00:44:31 I don't think there's a higher sumo deadlift out there in the world. Not that I'm aware of. Someone could correct us if they take us up in something, if there's something out there. In fact, I would actually say there's probably not a whole lot of higher gym deadl up in something. If there's something out there, I would actually say there's probably not a whole lot of higher gym deadlifts in general. Usually people are doing their thousand plus deadlifts, not in the gym,
Starting point is 00:44:52 you know, right. The number of thousand like pound. I mean, I think Thor and Brian, do you think they're ever touching a thousand? Like, what is the point?
Starting point is 00:45:00 I think they did though. I think, I think they might have this last year they might have like touched like one training the last their heaviest training session because i thought jf and shaw trained together and i think shaw may have done a thousand pounds or something like that okay and i wonder i think thor did one where he breached a thousand pounds but that's also guys that are looking at deadlifting 1,100 pounds. Right.
Starting point is 00:45:27 And I'm not even positive, but I think that those two guys may have just barely done 1,000 in training. Okay. But I'm not even sure about that. I could be wrong, but that's my review. But either way, you want to think, it just seems like there's not more than just a handful of times that this has ever been done.
Starting point is 00:45:43 No. Regardless of stance you know like right it just uh you know i'm sure he gets in better positioning with his straps you know yeah oftentimes like sumo guys like that he's like a very vertical sumo puller and especially when he used straps he can get his range of motion to just something that uh almost looks ridiculous that he that that that can even be done that like the body and hips go in that position yeah yeah he there's definitely a another gear when straps are involved for him not not everyone but in his case there absolutely is so yeah strap is and it's funny to make me think that i've a lot of times i've thought that straps if anything maybe they make my deadlift
Starting point is 00:46:22 worse because it messes like i can't set up. And you are doing it right. Yeah, right, right. You have to think you could go out and do a meet and then do 200 more pounds of straps. Like even, you know, where I'm at, 200 pounds is just, 200 pounds is much more doable, you know, at my level versus when you're already pulling 100. But to think that I could have 200 more pounds just like makes my head like it doesn't spin yeah that's even possible when you start thinking what the actual numbers are then at 200 more pounds yes but um 200 it's probably an inflated number because that 828 was like his first attempt and he probably was planning on pulling like 880 or something yeah i want to say i believe his his third attempt got up higher you know closer
Starting point is 00:47:04 to 900 right Right, right. It is just when you see the number on paper versus the Instagram post. It's kind of one of those real life versus Instagram things, you know? Yeah, right. In this case, it's not a model picture. It is a video. Right. So Boss of Bosses was a good lineup.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Yeah. What I would ask you, so the, the okay so i'll take these three meets that existed here this year boss of bosses um the tribute meet which we did here not too long ago and then the kern that we had a little bit before that which one of those do you think was the best lineup of lifters or the best well i mean you could even maybe even put uh you know like big dogs yeah and that yeah right yes and i could put them it is a little different meat you know yeah right um like this we've talked about the different meats and then which is better and stuff like that but just like what we saw this year out of those ones i don't this boss of bosses one i guess my point being that
Starting point is 00:48:05 this boss of bosses one was pretty impressive yeah that probably is the the main discussion point probably here is that it's hard to actually pick one yeah i think in previous years you could probably like well uh the u.s open end up being a little bit of a letdown or maybe that would be my comment about this year almost two though that maybe these other two are are better still but you know are maybe better you could say it was it was the u.s open wasn't it though where like steffi and oh yeah the women yeah like that was like that's true yeah and it just depends you know when you're looking at the different kind of uh divisions in the sport you know and you get farther away from it it's easy to forget yeah yeah and like as far as women's powerlifting goes that might be the
Starting point is 00:48:43 craziest meet of all time yeah i, I think you're right. With Mariana having, what, like a 700 and something Wilkes and not being super far behind. Right. So they all have their interesting merits, and it probably really comes down to what part of the sport appeals to you more. If you only care about the biggest totals,
Starting point is 00:49:03 you're going to pick big dogs every single time. No doubt there right if you're really into the women's side of it the u.s open was probably the best meet you'll watch all year you know and and then uh depending on who you're a fan of there's probably one camp that's gonna say the tribute meet was a thousand times better and there's probably also gonna be another camp that says uh boss of bosses was hands down the winner here so i think that is pretty awesome that you can say we're at the point where depending on what you're a fan of there is a meet at these higher levels that will satisfy that need for you but yeah you're right one final thing that is kind of interesting that some people might not know is that boss of bosses was put on as an unsanctioned meet it was not affiliated with the federation okay because was there like a wrpf thing yeah because i think
Starting point is 00:49:49 dan green is kind of like tied to that or like maybe he's like the chair for the american division and wasn't that the big thing people were worried about about uh jb bosses uh same thing but you know it's but i didn't hear much about the boss of bosses maybe it's just been around long enough that people like oh no that's boss bosses that yeah we're not gonna worry about that one yeah i i don't know what people's logic is for like being upset about that we never i guess did we ever say it that what julius did we did oh you got caught up on his weight we probably didn't kind of yeah we probably should go back to that for a second yeah uh he set the world but probably the most you know the most notable thing of the whole thing is Julius broke the all-time world record, regardless of weight class or weight, heaviest raw bench ever.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Do you know what that number is, Tanner? 739 point something. It wasn't very much higher than what Creel's was. I don't know if it was a pound difference even or maybe as a pound. Yeah, I was going to say, without knowing the the exact numbers it is within just a few pounds with about 739.5 i think but the there was the the controversy of the lift was that i don't know if you watch if you watch the video when you watch it even with no sound on or anything the thing you'll notice is that once he locks it out it does come back down almost on top of him yeah um it just gets really hard to
Starting point is 00:51:06 hear from so then the argument is where was the rat call at like where was the rat call before it came back on him and if that was the case well then all right maybe the spotters just didn't do their job yeah um it's it's there wasn't a lot of time in between no there wasn't a lot of time and but you could also get fast rat calls like that's not unusual either yeah you know i think it's one of those things that the video i was watching it was just really hard to hear anything so it's hard to like be critical of the lift in any way uh it's probably one of those things that unless you were there it's hard to say it passed so like all records you open power lifting made that same comment that they've made in the past they're not the they're not the judges of the what's good not they are. That's what the judges are for at these meets.
Starting point is 00:51:45 It's their job to call them. You see a lot of lifts that probably look worse for things get called. My thing for anyone that's worried about it, in order for them to be able to rest their head on the pillow at night, what I would tell them is in a matter of time, it's probably not going to matter because I think Julius is going to do more than that and do it in a way that nobody's worried about it so yeah i don't think that individual record itself is going to stand for 10 plus years i mean it's it's also the way things are going it's not
Starting point is 00:52:13 unreasonable to think within even five years somebody that we don't even know about right now will come along and break whoever has it right now right because i think a lot of people would have said well when eric spoto said it like okay that guy's a freak that's not going and then carill came and i think for several years most people were like well carill like yeah okay let's see someone take that from him right and what are we did that record last maybe it's five years yeah five something like that but it wasn't four years not much past five years if it was no i four years is probably about right i'm guessing that sounds about right. Yeah, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that that will fall again.
Starting point is 00:52:47 Well, I think Julius will break it. Yeah. And I think he'll do it in a way that everyone can not worry about whether there's a rack man and all that. It's pretty crazy. He's going to be pushing close to a 750-pound raw bench. You have to assume as long as he stays healthy. Like watching it, the thing that just still blows my mind is how fast off his chest it is yeah with 739 pounds it makes you think that
Starting point is 00:53:11 if he had to do like uh like if he had like pins above him you know like uh what do they call like a pin push or whatever yeah yeah a pin press when you're going into the pins like if he had 800 pounds could he push to a half rep i think he could you know the way he moves it i sure think so too yeah it's it's and when you're talking that that's like uh um like a five percent more what is you know it's yeah we're talking a couple percentage yeah right right when the weight numbers are that huge yeah most people think that's like optimizing like just yeah the one percent optimal it's like at this point optimizing a couple per of percents is a big deal. Yes, yes, for sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:48 So overall, we didn't get the chance to either one of us to watch the live stream, but it sounds like if you were interested or even if you are a fan of the sport of powerlifting in any way, it was probably a pretty good weekend for you. I think so. It was pretty boss. If I had to sum it up in one word, I would say it was boss. I think that's how they sold it. Yeah, good. I know that that's not just me just thinking that, but that's really the way it was.
Starting point is 00:54:12 Do we have time for underrated, overrated? We do. Is it too early for underrated, overrated? No, it is not too early. It's never too early for underrated, overrated. Okay, good. I was hoping we could squeeze it in again here. It's kind of become a thing.
Starting point is 00:54:23 We don't want to just drop it no drop it on on uh on its face at this point in time um we left off last week where on underrated overrated i kind of skipped ahead oh well let's say we didn't recap though what happened we haven't uh i haven't put that out oh okay kind of off off our right well there's one thing to follow up on uh scott dodds friend of the podcast oh yes thank you for remembering i've got yes okay i didn't know this is great yes one of the topics last week was all sport he dm'd me today and said all sport very underrated and so glad it was a picture of him in his bedroom when he was 17 years old and had a massive like all sport flag hanging above his bed yes he had a room full of sports posters
Starting point is 00:55:04 covered in like you know probably just pages ripped out of Sports Illustrated, things like that. But he has, as big as this Don't Curl In Me flag behind us, an all-sport poster right above the head of his bed. And, I mean, if that doesn't prove that something's underrated, I don't know what does. Yes, big Scott, longtime fan of the podcast and Mastonomics. Really glad you sent that to us.
Starting point is 00:55:25 When I saw that, I was just like, no way. That is so awesome that he had that. Yeah, that was really cool. I'm glad you remembered that. But Allsport was kind of the mix-up of that got placed in there. Should have really been this week. There was something else that's in there. Yes, I totally forgot that.
Starting point is 00:55:44 I had this waiting for me all week so those of you that don't know overrated underrated is this uh one of our segments that we do and it's i believe it's the most popular segment in podcasting not just amongst our podcast but it's the most popular segment in all the podcasts yeah i've kind of seen um some instagram channels or uh not necessarily, but some Instagram pages in our space that have taken some notes from the underrated overrated. I'll just say that. Well,
Starting point is 00:56:14 and everyone knows we are the first people in the entire history of the world to do an overrated underrated segment. So we own that. We do own it. So we just know, I guess we get to live with that. No, we were the first ever.
Starting point is 00:56:24 Right. We get to, we get to live with that knowing that we were the first ever. Right. We get to wear that award. But this week, the topic that got flip-flopped with AllSport, number one topic this week, overrated or underrated, Capri Sun. Capri Sun. It ties in with AllSport. It does. It's been a long time since I've had Capri Sun.
Starting point is 00:56:44 I got to actually do some thinking here. You know the packaging. Oh, yeah. I'm going to think right away. Cons. Cons of Capri Sun. Way too small of a package. What are they?
Starting point is 00:56:54 Like six ounces of juice in a pouch? Is it juice? I'm probably going to put that as one of the sole things in the con category. Pros would be cool straw that you get to puncture a package with. That hopefully goes as it should. As a kid, that is the number one thing with that right there. Number two is, yeah, it tastes enough like juice, I guess, to be fine. To me, it's really the serving size is what's really throwing me off here.
Starting point is 00:57:24 Wasn't that a fun feeling, though, when you got to the end of the confetti? You sucked it in. It sucked in on itself. It's like, ah, I really got the last drops. That was a certain level of satisfaction there. That metallic pouch. And it comes in a box of metallic pouches, yeah. I still think Capri Sun is probably just a little overrated.
Starting point is 00:57:48 I'm going to say overrated. Is it the serving size that you're hanging your hat on? You know, if they made like, you know, if they like stayed up with the times and made like a 20-ounce Capri Sun, I'd be like, they're doing it, man. Like that's pretty cool. I think I'd be more about that. But yeah, I'm going to say underrated.
Starting point is 00:58:06 Okay, underrated on that. And you know with overrated, underrated, we do like to occasionally sprinkle in the lifting topics. So let's do that today. Overrated or underrated bicep curls. Curls. Curling. Curling.
Starting point is 00:58:19 Okay. I think performance-wise, I don't think I'm alone saying this, that most people would probably say performance-wise, I don't think I'm alone saying this, that most people would probably say performance-wise, if you're just purely concerned about strength performance, bicep curls are probably way overrated. We talked to Joe Nolio, a former world champion equipped bencher,
Starting point is 00:58:43 and I think he said that like curls were almost non-existent in his training yeah i can't remember now i think maybe it was maybe it was his favorite arm exercise was like or like uh assistant exercise was uh triceps okay gotcha but i think he even made the point of just being like well curls aren't a huge part of this whole equation here right anything it's probably wrong to think that he's not doing curls right probably just not like most people probably think oh he's got a really big bench he's just curling away yeah yeah because that performance wise with power lifting that would be the one lift you could say that maybe you do curls for is the bench press because they're almost like your bigger arms is like more
Starting point is 00:59:26 breaks to like stop the bench and the bar and like to just get things binding against each other to, to make the lift easier almost. But curls in general, God, it still is curls for the girls though. You know, like that's true.
Starting point is 00:59:40 Yeah. Um, but overrated or underrated, is there an exercise that's performed more than curls? Benching, maybe. Right. Those two are on their own pedestals. They are.
Starting point is 00:59:54 It's like if you look at the most performed exercises by anyone ever. Benching curls. That is where it's at. That's the bread and butter right there. That's the gym bro. Yeah. By that logic, I might have to say that curls, yeah, I think curls are probably overrated.
Starting point is 01:00:10 Will I continue to do them? Absolutely. Right. Are they overrated? I think so, yeah. Yes. Do our biceps ever grow from doing them? I don't think so.
Starting point is 01:00:18 Very questionable. Underrated or overrated? McGriddles. I really do think McGriddles are overrated? McGriddles. I really do think McGriddles are overrated. I don't even know that. You better explain it. Maybe some people don't know the McGriddle.
Starting point is 01:00:36 I could be wrong because it's been so long since I've had one. I might even have my McDonald's terminology mixed up here, but McGriddles are the ones, it's almost like a little pancake with syrup built into it that is used to make a sandwich yes correct yeah that is the mcgriddle yes that's the mcgriddle the one with the maple syrup inside yeah it's like you have this little muffin biscuit bread thing that not even really like a bit it's like a you have more i should just say miniature pancakes stuffed with syrup and that is your bread for the sandwich, for the breakfast sandwich. I've never been a fan of that.
Starting point is 01:01:07 I also probably haven't had one in over 10 years. So maybe my tastes have changed as I've, you know, gotten much more mature over time. But I would, I would assume that probably is not the case with the McGriddle, but that was never my, I'm always just more like a straight up,
Starting point is 01:01:22 like give me some type of biscuit with sausage, cheese, and egg on it. And always sausage over bacon because fast food bacon is the same thickness as paper. Almost at that point paying for greasy air. It's just non-existent. Couldn't agree more with you on that.
Starting point is 01:01:40 Sausage, there you at least feel like you're getting some substance. I'm sure on the price to weight ratio you know fast food bacon is probably like what two dollars a serving for maybe what maybe an ounce yeah where the sausage patty at least it's a couple ounces yeah so i agree so yeah i am saying mcgriddle's overrated i think some people live and die by the mcgriddle so i'll be really curious to see where that uh I mean, the fact that it exists does say that some people do live and die by it.
Starting point is 01:02:06 I remember when McGriddles were new. Really? I do not at all. Back in my day, I remember when McGriddles were new. Underrated or overrated? Last topic for today. N64 GoldenEye.
Starting point is 01:02:18 This is really funny because we were actually talking about this this weekend. The funny thing is, Tanner, I don't think you play a lot of video games. No. I was actually talking about this this weekend. The funny thing is, Tanner, I don't think you play a lot of video games. No. I was actually talking to some of my friends.
Starting point is 01:02:31 I said, I do believe that some of you guys play more video games in a day than I do in an entire year. I don't have a problem with them. I just don't play anymore. It's more of like a time thing. Well, we have to do this podcast. Yeah, we have to podcast. When are we going to play video games?
Starting point is 01:02:45 yeah we have to podcast like we're gonna play video games um gold and i we were saying like we used to play that crazy amount like stupid amounts of hours like yep like uh and now i'm gonna just sound dumb because i can't think of it but uh i think if the level is complex dude throw mines on complex uh-huh and that or the temple they throw the proxy mines on the temple doors just all the doors just blowing up all the time yeah or turn the golden gun on yeah someone would be odd job and they're just really hard to shoot see and i didn't i didn't do this my original thought was n64 golden eye playing golden gun is that overrated underrated but you can that's sub topic for this one answer that first playing. Playing Golden Gun in GoldenEye. Yeah, so if people don't know,
Starting point is 01:03:27 first of all, yeah, the Golden Gun was like a, I think it was always, was it always one-shot kill? Yes. Okay, so the Golden Gun was just one-shot kill, which you could turn on a mode where, okay, the only gun available is the Golden Gun.
Starting point is 01:03:38 Yes. And we're talking, the other crazy thing is you could do four-player, local, on your TV. The stack. Which now, you know when i think back that okay in my bedroom i had a 13 inch tv so like i think we were all playing on a phone smaller on a screen smaller than my phone and we'd be sitting you know i mean we'd sit as
Starting point is 01:03:56 close as we could but four people still have to be at least five but it seemed awesome and there was nothing wrong with it at all and i'm sure i mean the resolution was shitty but i'm sure it looked even worse than like i remember yeah um but it was the best thing ever we would play it all day long yeah uh was the original question gold and i being overrated underrated the game yeah i think the game is underrated the other thing is and this is what we were talking about too is someone i feel like i've heard this before a few times i believe gold and i was made by like five people like five like like five people like coded it and built it and everything which is in today's video game terms one like impossible and unheard of you know when video games now are like multi multi million tens of million dollar hundreds of
Starting point is 01:04:44 million dollar projects to like even take off yeah it's just such a different world you know it is a cruder game but yeah uh yeah gold knight is underrated it was it was so awesome it was pretty good it was so fun and like the story mode the story mode seems so cool at the time like you feel like you're the secret agent yeah sniping people and running through like you're in the the tundra of whatever they're in russia or something yeah you're just going to all these crazy places you're on like these secret bases like was it the best nintendo 64 game all right i did have it would have to be on the list yeah oh yeah i think everyone's i think i think a lot of people would make a very strong argument for
Starting point is 01:05:19 mario 64 oh sure at the time time, I was lucky enough that for Christmas, that was like the actual first video game console we ever had. My dad surprised us with that and it was like, oh my god, this is insane. We had Mario 64 and I remember playing that and being like, this is the craziest thing. To have an actual 3D world like that
Starting point is 01:05:39 was insane, but that one I think is in the running up there. Smash Brothers is going to be up there uh smash brothers is gonna be up there for sure up there pretty high yeah a couple others i liked 1080 snowboarding 1080 snowboarding was really fun um just oh nfl blitz i really played a lot of nfl blitz too smashing the guy and this is i mean we're talking like i think i was in fourth or fifth grade so clearly not knowing anything about football it was just like you pick the hail mary it's like oh the hail mary they throw it really far like yeah basically put that play every single time uh that was classic i'm trying to think of like what starfox was pretty sweet that was a good
Starting point is 01:06:14 one uh definitely definitely missing games uh i think we played like perfect dark there was uh jet force gemini i believe was one two there i mean there was a lot of games for that were that were really cool so uh n64 i'll say is underrated too you know yeah good times there good console good console simple a simpler time in the world you could say you know when you just play a console with four of your buddies in person and not complain about it it was that's what we did back in our day just you know You could look at everyone's screen to see where everyone was at. Yeah, that was like, you're cheating. You're looking at my screen.
Starting point is 01:06:49 That was the big thing, screen peeking. You're screen peeking. That's right. No, I'm not looking. It's like just everyone's doing it. Yeah, good stuff. Yeah, it is good stuff. That wraps up Underrated for the week.
Starting point is 01:07:01 Just thinking here, something I kind of glossed over we did have a sack segment today for today do we still uh can we bust out a sack segment we could do it quick we're at about an hour and 10 minutes here but we couldn't and this is a tanny tanner and tommy's sack segment a little double sack just so happy yeah i forgot there is two of them yeah uh they're kind of the same thing so whatever whether we open both and everything it doesn't make a difference but this is one of the few sack segments that is actually with a sack yeah it came with a sack and this is from uh one of our sponsors from lifting large they send us both uh some pretty
Starting point is 01:07:39 cool stuff the probably the most interesting item in the sack to me was these that you're holding also i'm holding them up you got them out of the paper out of the sack to me was these that you're holding also i'm holding them up you got them out of the paper out of the package already so i'll let you instead of me they're uh the lifting large branded ground lock uh slippers i guess deadlift slippers yeah is that what you'd go with my deadlift slippers yeah and i have not tried these yet but i'm excited to try them i've never worn deadlift slippers before and i mean you'll look really good around the house wearing them too so that's what i there's the style point showed my wife and said hey i got some new slippers and i'm sure she was like okay i haven't put them on yet but i'm gonna try them out here
Starting point is 01:08:17 maybe the next time i deadlift and i'll get back to uh everyone here of what my opinion was on the trying out the lifting large ground lock deadlift slippers for the first time. They're from Skull Smash. And also on the side, Lifting Large, 15 years of customer service. So they have been at this for a while. They do. They have. this is also unbroken yet uh i'm not gonna take a big whiff right now this isn't the time or the place so uh thank you very much for that we appreciate those we'll put them to use and
Starting point is 01:09:37 cherish them yes so that was a good sack segment. Like you said, interesting because we actually pulled it out of a sack today. Yeah. Doesn't always happen that way. So does that wrap up the podcast, Tanner? Almost. Okay. Do we want to run through these final ads? Yeah.
