Massanomics!
website, everything. Masanomics.
Welcome back everyone to Western Northeast South Dakota.
We are the lifting podcast about nothing. This is the Masanomics podcast.
My name is Tanner and my name is Tommy and Tommy.
We did it. We did it. We're here. We finally did it.
This is episode 260 of the massonomics podcast technically we are the only ones hearing this right now tanner it hasn't been published yet
so we still there's we still haven't really done it yet very close yeah we're very close to having
done it we're on our way this will mark five straight years pumping out a podcast every week, never missing one single week of having a brand new episode.
And that's not to toot our own horn, but that's pretty impressive.
I meant to actually, I'm just thinking of it now.
So we've got a few cool things planned for this episode
in celebratory, masonomic fashion.
You know what, I'm excited, Tanner, because this episode
is a celebration
and it's a celebration
about my favorite thing,
us.
We get to celebrate us.
We are going to pat ourselves
on the back so hard
in this episode.
Maybe this will be
three hours of us
just patting ourselves
on the back.
I was,
what I was going to do
is look up some statistics
as far as
the typical podcast duration but i have to think
it has to be less than 20 right
like oh i had a podcast well how long did it run like 20 episodes yeah that's like a half year
that's pretty good that's a good habit you stuck with for a half year i remember when we spec when
we started the podcast even tyler on the podcast mentioning how most some statistics on life it was like most don't
make it past 10 or 20 90 wasn't it like one in 10 maybe makes that far how many do you think
make it past five years oh i would say like a tenth of a percent that's i mean like it's like
outside wait we, way above.
I don't even count like daily news shows don't get to count.
No, no, no, no.
That's a different format.
Right, right, right.
Yeah.
I would guess it's like a fraction of a percentage.
It has to be.
It has to be.
Right.
We are elite.
And this is just the start of us patting ourselves on the back.
We're just getting started.
But before we pat ourselves on the back even harder and more, I want
to tell you about the sponsors for
this week's episode. This episode is

very true uh check out their plates and all their other made in america equipment online
at the strengthco.com that's the strengthco.com well tanner should we get this celebration started
let's do it uh i i think like any good
celebration we got to start out with a beverage right oh i mean beverage you know that's that's
how you celebrate right it wouldn't really be a celebration without it would it so i'm going to
say first tanner is this a what do i need to shield my eyes no no you don't need to shield
your eyes for this i just need to reach forward here.
That's what she said.
Or as the actress said to the bishop, if you prefer it that way.
Jeez, it must be a good beverage you're getting over.
So Tanner, we're no strangers to sparkling water around here.
What do you say about sparkling wine, Tanner?
Yep, it is the occasion.
It is the occasion.
This is a fine Martini Rossi Rose.
Ah, yes.
Now this is what I call cracking the bubbly.
This is cracking the bubbly.
I mean, how often do you hit,
how many times are we going to hit our five-year anniversary of podcasting?
And I'll have you know,
I did look for the expensive uh dom p um but um
surprisingly our gas our our grocery store gas station was actually completely sold out out of
a 200 don pairing young was it actually it was completely sold out because i know they always
have it and i'm like i wasn't gonna buy it yeah i'm like oh this would be the reason to get it
is that what a a bottle of Don Perignon costs is $200?
The one they had there was $200.
I'm sure you can get more expensive ones, but yeah.
I don't, what's the trick to getting these off Tanner?
Do you know?
I absolutely know nothing about it.
Do you need a corkscrew?
Nope.
Here it comes.
Almost.
Whoa.
I didn't think we were dealing with that kind of pressure.
That really.
That wasn't pointed in the ceiling.
That wasn't pointed at the camera.
And like any time you're enjoying a beverage with Mastinomics,
you got to get one of these cool-ass cups.
So Tanner, go ahead.
Beauty of these cups, actually, I don't know if anyone's aware of this.
When you're done with them, throw them in the garbage.
Just throw them away.
Just throw them in the garbage.
It's the world's most expensive disposable cup. oh it's the baby here we go it's also the world's most disposable
expensive cup the world's most disposable cup i like that that's really good that's really good
so i guess uh it actually cheers huh it's also fitting that you have the black uh
hey yeah there you go the red cup and I have the red cup.
Yeah, it is for our viewers of the podcast.
Yes.
I think you're supposed to.
Are you supposed to actually drink this or do you just spit it out in another glass?
Yeah, you swish it like that and then you spit it into the garbage.
And then when you're all done, you throw the whole cup in the garbage.
I will say that I think is the rule for champagne that doesn't actually have to be from France to be considered champagne?
Is that the rule?
I think that is correct.
So that's probably why this is sparkling wine from Italy and not champagne.
Pretty good.
I would say, compared to the Cook's champagne I typically get on New Year's Eve, which is like $7.
Yeah.
The $12 bottle of Martini Rossi is significantly better.
Let's say it doesn't taste bad.
Do you like champagne?
I would usually say no, but this tastes much better.
So if I had this, I'd be like, oh, yeah, it's not too bad.
Do you like wine?
Yeah, I don't mind wine.
I'm a Pinot Noir type of guy myself.
Actually, I'm just more of a red guy in general.
I'm a Pinot Noir type of guy myself.
Actually, I'm just more of a red guy in general.
I don't know that I've ever had a wine, a sip, a drink of any wine that I've thought,
I would like to have more of this.
You know, I could.
But this is actually not bad.
It's not bad.
I didn't pour enough.
I got to get a refill going here on this Tanner. You know, I'm never sure how you, the proper pouring technique into a silly pint for this stuff.
I think you just top it right off.
I think really.
Do you need any more?
I'll take a little more.
I think that really the main key is being sure that you don't have a garbage far away.
To just throw.
Yeah.
Okay, Tanner.
But what part of, what is a celebration worth if there's just beverages, right?
That's true.
Okay.
I don't,
I don't know where you're going with this,
but it might've taken five years,
but this is the first ever segment of Tommy sack on this tan.
Oh,
I'm going to,
we're starting a new era here in a new era.
Season two seasons two starts at five plus every,
every 500 episodes of the new season.
So Tanner,
are you ready for what's in tommy's sack
and i hope you're i feel like i've been waiting for half a decade for this tanner i think you
might get more pleasure out of this than i will are there oh that's good so i'm worried about how
shitty this is going to make the champagne tap taste though that's what we have here take one
more sip of this while it still tastes good you know not only does a cooler keep things cold but
a cooler could also keep things warm and in this case this cooler was keeping warm to mcdonald's apple pies now champagne and apple pies is there a better way to celebrate
tanner um no i almost this is almost worthy i need to take like a uh on air snap story of this but
let's point it at me. I don't need a selfie one. Mmm. Mmm, baby.
Here, let's cheers.
We'll cheers the apple pies.
You know, I had to hit these in the microwave
for a few minutes before I came down.
That's why they're still warm here.
Mine's like falling apart.
Oh, there we go.
That's the good stuff.
Now, it's been a little while since I had one of these bad boys.
I'm still good.
I'm going to give this a little.
I have not had, quite honestly, and I feel like maybe a little bit of a phony of saying this,
but in all of our discussions of apple pies, still haven't had one.
I had a couple.
For a dollar dollar not bad right
that's good you know what the problem with this is along with all food for me at this point in
time the beard uh my mustache i cannot i no longer can eat food without also eating part of
just looking just looking like a toddler and smearing everywhere i if when i eat to spend if anyone else is around i have to have my food in one hand
a napkin in the other hand i take a bite i wipe my face off i take a bite i wipe my face off
it's the mustache though donald's apple pies though not too shabby especially considering
these apple pies were purchased almost two hours ago, Tanner.
The warming it up and keeping it.
Really takes it to another level.
I mean, this is really good, isn't it?
Yeah.
What more would you want out of this?
Some people would say you would want a holiday pie.
I guess that was that big Julius Maddox that really sensual.
Or was it uh td smash
because we had those guys on back-to-back episodes i'm not sure we talked about food a lot with both
of them that's good tell me how the rose the champagne you taste after that though
i will i will this is a really good celebration you know i'm gonna be
honest i'm really will this is a really good celebration you know i'm gonna be honest i'm
really liking this celebration so far you know we're 12 minutes in and we haven't really done
anything besides eat and drink some stuff well we weren't gonna really change up our whole
podcast now yeah we were about to start doing something now yeah i would say just wait though
we got something we got something for later on
in the episode you know the sparkling rose wine compliments it pretty well if i don't say so
myself i i mean you can be the final judge there but there's a thing i have with mixing alcoholic
beverages and food it almost never is good for me.
I think it works in this case,
apple and then something sweet.
I think that,
I think they go,
I think they go.
Cause you know,
maybe I'm just feeling that five year buzz though.
That could be it.
You know,
pizza and beer is the thing people talk about.
It's okay.
But have you ever had pizza and milk?
That's good.
Oh yeah.
I could go,
I can actually just drink a giant glass of milk with any meal and i always like it so that's i i i'm getting more and
more away from the milk thing i'm just starting to care for less and less but not too bad that's
not bad yeah that's not bad wow all right so we're off to a smoking start here tanner that apple pie is good now i know
why we always talk about those things they're really good they they know what they're doing
over there don't they um so i have a little thing planned yeah where we're gonna make uh
yeah here i'm thinking how i want to how you want to approach this how i want to frame this for the
podcast because um we're we've done some thinking. Obviously,
you've pulled out some big stops here for some ideas you had for episode 260, the five-year
anniversary. And I wanted to do something to relive some of our past. It's like one of my
favorite things to do, honestly. The longer we go, I just enjoy more and more reliving stuff
that we've already done. A little reminiscing.
It's just like content that creates itself.
Like all we have to do is just you exist long enough and all you have to do is talk about your old stuff.
Longevity is a thing in its own.
Right.
So I did a little looking back at old podcast episodes and I found maybe about five or six.
We're going to make about five or six stops along the way.
This is a little time machine.
So what we're giving everyone is a Mastinomics podcast tour.
Okay.
And you and I are both along for the ride.
We do have to hop in our time machine.
And I like to think of our time machine, we made it out of like a 2003 Buick LeSabre.
That's a great time machine.
Because I want a time machine that's reliable, functional,
timeless.
Classy.
Timeless in its style.
Yes.
So that's what our...
One that you know is going to be colored silver.
No doubts about what color this time machine is.
And a DeLorean's just too flashy.
Yeah.
Too many hard angles to that thing.
Right.
So we're going to hop in our Buick LeSabre time machine
and we're going to take just a road trip down memory lane on a few and i consider these
like cornerstone moments in mass in mass economics podcast history so should i give you like a slight
background of where we're going on each one i think it might be necessary. If you want to, yeah. Okay. So this first one, and I guess maybe I haven't listened to, I haven't listened to, actually, I haven't listened
to any podcasts that outside of, you know, I do the editing, but when I do the editing,
I don't listen to the entire thing. Right. So I probably get, when I go back between the podcast
editing and the video on an hour and a half episode, I probably listened to somewhere between
30 and 45 minutes of it yeah
and usually i remember a few spots where the guest said something funny or we laughed a bunch and i
want to go back and listen to that so yeah i get at least half of them but i haven't gone back and
just listened to an episode right um in in years like years so this will be a for sure uh surprise
and looking back on these so this first one this is a bit of podcast trivia for you i'll
see if you know the answer okay to this which episode of the mass dynamics podcast is the first
episode that we ever recorded that was two wasn't it it is episode two yep that's a fun
mass dynamics pod to be fair i had to guess a number between 1 and 249 so the
odds were kind of in my favor tanner true true um yes number two number two is the first one that
that we ever recorded because number number two is just a little bit of a background on myself
you and tyler where we each talk about ourselves a little bit number the one we released number
one which we actually recorded second was uh like the gym and i was talking a lot about the reason was it's easier to talk about ourselves
but maybe the gym's more interesting to people is that why we did it i don't know
i'll tell you what it was a plan that tyler had yeah i know for sure i remember thinking i
sounds good to me you know and i mean look it got us here so it obviously
was a good plan it was obviously the correct foundation proof is in the pudding so we're
going to go to episode two which is actually the first one we listened to and we're going to listen
to about three minutes here it's we're going to listen are we allowed to talk while it's playing
uh yeah i don't care we're going to actually we're going to listen to four minutes we're going to
listen to the very intro all the way to four minutes because it's the old intro so it'd be funny to listen to the old intro
again and we're gonna listen to up through up through four minutes which is where uh we all
introduce ourselves basically okay so this could even be a little painful to hear yeah and i mean
we'll talk about this more after it's done but but I do have a few comments about this. Okay. One being, oh my God, were we boring.
And I do remember.
Were we so not fun.
And I do, I'll wait for, I'll maybe wait for this, but I do remember one thing from the
very first recording ever that I can say to you.
Okay.
So here we go.
Episode two, the first four minutes is what we're going to listen to.
Oh boy. Oh, boy.
Oh, boy.
Just that intro.
Yeah.
It's been a long time since I've heard that.
Welcome to Massanomics, the world's strongest podcast.
Also, Tyler sounds a little bit different.
I think it's the microphones.
I think it's just cheaper microphones.
And probably just cheaper process.
It sounds much more tinny.
Let's let that fade on in.
Okay, we're live here on Masanomics Podcast.
We're back for episode two.
Today we're just kind of going to discuss us, I suppose.
No real defined topic.
I'm Tyler. On my left here is tanner this is me
podcast land and across the way is tommy hello everyone all right so so okay we're just gonna
bring you guys so already we're just coming in with the energy right oh it's so bad
actually it's not bad it's just low energy Well, we didn't have a personality yet.
Right.
There's no personality.
And we had no clue what we were getting into.
Right.
Absolutely.
It was, at that time, it was, Tyler really wanted to do this.
And, hey, if he's going to be energetic, then, okay, we'll go with it.
Right.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
Continue.
With who we are.
Last time, we talked about the gym.
And also the sound quality.
You probably have an overview on us from that.
But today, we're just going to kind of talk about
where we are with our training and what we're trying to do me a little bit of background you
heard some of this last episode but I've been basically off the couch for about a year it's
about a year today before that I really did not do much so you know I'm kind of new to all this
these guys have a little bit more experience than I do.
So we're kind of trying to tap some of that knowledge for you.
Tanner, you've been doing this a lot longer than I.
Being pretty generous with tapping the knowledge.
Yeah, and it is kind of funny to hear,
hearing Tyler come from the standpoint where he's like,
yeah, I really haven't been lifting yet.
And yeah, he was new to his fitness jersey.
The other thing that a lot of people probably don't realize,
and I don't know if we ever talked about this is as of the time that we were recording that that was maybe the third time in my life i had ever met tyler like that was maybe the third time
i'd ever been in a room with him right so also was like i don't know who you are right i didn't know
him much better i guess like i think you had probably maybe a couple more times yeah yeah
uh he pretty much just had come down to the gym
yeah and like the first time and was like asking about massonomics and we had kind of like written
this piece for each other because he had this own website that he was doing and like within that
first time that he was ever there was just me and him in the gym and all of a sudden it was like
he had a lot of great ideas and like i was already like to do and i was
already like oh he's a part of astronomics i feel like we really got more going here because he's
like uh able to wants to explore these areas that we might not otherwise explore yeah that was the
first time he was yeah because i remember you basically saying that same conversation like yeah
this guy he came down to the gym and he had a bunch of these ideas and he wanted to do a podcast and all this. And I was just kind of like, okay. We've made, we've made two t-shirts up to this point.
So we are wildly successful. Okay. We'll keep rolling here. What, uh, what's your background
as far as strength training? Well, I guess I've, I've probably been lifting for about 10 years.
Uh, but when people ask me that question, I don't really like to say 10
years because it seems like it's a never ending developing thing. So 10 years ago when I started,
I was a complete idiot. And you know, I, I would say nothing that I was doing then makes any sense
to what I believe now. But i would say within the last five years
i've been doing some pretty good training pretty serious training and i've been on the right page
uh still improving since then um you know i i power lift competitively now i've done three
power lifting meets my last couple were the way these microphones make our voices sound, it sounds so wimpy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yeah.
Like we all sound kind of distant.
Yeah.
It's just,
yeah.
Okay.
Anyways,
that's no one's fault.
In February and March of this year.
And I've done some,
uh,
strong man.
It is my fault of just how boring I am.
I'm like,
I'm like,
man,
like I'm sure I am the exact same way.
Yeah. We all, all three in fairness, all three of us are like, and it like, man, like I'm sure I am the exact same way. Yeah.
We all,
all three in fairness,
all three of us are like,
and it's also nervousness too.
Yeah.
We were nervous.
Yeah.
This was the first minute that we ever had done this.
Well,
because,
and I remember this is what I was going to say before it started.
I remember,
I think it was the very first one or the second one.
Like when we're talking,
like we're going to,
like we're introducing ourselves and I go,
and I'm Tommy to Fay.
And I'm like,
Oh,
stop.
Are we not supposed to say last names? Like, like, like that was a thing, like should identify ourselves
on the internet, you know? And so I, that was, I think one of the only times we've ever started
an episode and we stopped and we're like, Oh yeah, we'll just, we can just say our first name.
And we restarted the episode. Like that was either the first or second one, which we're
both recorded in the same night, but right. but right competitions a few of those locally and then some celtic fair games so that's kind of what i train for um yeah that's that's a
little bit about it or i guess the the 10 000 foot view so you're kind of our our resident like
legit big strong guy though like when i when i first saw you through like some of your guys
through some of our you know facebook stuff before i got involved here you know the numbers that really
you guys out of your gym were putting up are pretty big but tanner specifically you know with
me only having trained for a year there was a lot of me going what the fuck you know like so it was
pretty impressive that's kind of a lot of what brought me to and what about you tommy how long
have you been oh boy here we go game so i would say i've been training in more of a just all-around power lifting type way for probably about four years now before that
i think i kind of had the basic experience that everyone has in high school which i you know how
however you want to equate that it's not the most valuable experience uh right and then through
college just with some friends in the name of staying active we spent some time you know lifting
weights but that mainly consisted of benching
and then maybe getting a squat workout in every so often.
So it was nothing too serious there.
And then slowly getting used to the 8 to 5 job life,
you realize you need to get something active going.
And I started going to the Y.
I was fortunate enough to have a roommate in
college at powerlifting domino that kind of provided the template for me at least for something
to follow having no idea what i was getting myself into and so i kind of followed that loosely for a
couple years and then i would say starting about two years ago is when i got a little more serious
with attempting to you know really really improve and taking a more analytical approach to certain
things i'm surprised so serious I'm sounding here.
So that's kind of took me up through
where I wanted to go on that one.
I mean, we could certainly list the entire thing,
but you get the, you know.
Just the seriousness on both of our ends
is really funny.
I'm not positive we should have monitored it there.
I think we went that full four minutes
without one of us laughing once.
Oh yeah, no, we didn't. We didn't laugh there. Right, once oh yeah no we didn't we didn't laugh there right like not even just no we're doing like it's right no that
that's the thing like it's it's funny to look back now but also if we were starting all over
again and had never done it before we would do the same thing because you don't uh have your
own voice or have a feel for us like it takes time to develop whatever the personality is around this right but
it is just hilarious wow to see okay to listen to now tanner i'm gonna reach into my goodie bag
here one more time is there still things in there still things in there my god care for one of these
i also have one of these crispy boys i would i'll celebrate with one of those okay that might wash things down pretty good. I'm feeling like it's a McUltra.
IPA stout.
Barrel-aged.
Ooh, and only 2.6 carbs, which is good because I'm fat.
Yep, got to watch that figure.
Tastes pretty good.
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
Okay, so that was five years ago obviously so that would have been
uh march of 2016 okay i was looking was the first episode ever released on like april 10th though i
think we've literally just posted one episode a week for um here every single week you know i was
i was actually looking into this and maybe
well I can tell you what Apple podcast says yeah it's April April 2016 is that the way
the time works I'm confused I don't know well you add in a leap year in there or something oh
I think it's it's because uh we posted a bunch of these like right away. Oh, is that what we did?
Yeah, yeah.
We recorded a few just so we had them in the pipeline.
So we would have recorded that five years ago from today,
but then we like pumped a few out.
And we had, we recorded several before.
Actually, there was a while where we were three or four weeks ahead of where we were at
because it had nothing to do with what was going on.
So we recorded that first one five years ago from today.
That's what I thought.
I was doing a bit of research.
Yeah, that's why.
Because like the first two have published dates of just like a day apart and then just a couple days later
okay yeah that's that's why okay so now we're gonna we're gonna jump pretty far ahead in time
this is taking a pretty big jump through the mass dynamics time sphere we're gonna go all the way to
july of 2018 this is episode 119 oh wow okay 119 so i took a this is our biggest jump in time that
we're gonna make here and i hope back when we're in 2016 we just went and made some bets on um
tesla i hope you and i when we were back there we just invested in tesla and i don't know even
amazon like how big was the amazon what did i just see the other day? If like all these people that bought like a Model 3 in like 2017,
what was like 60 grand?
Bought the actual car.
If you would, instead of buying the car,
if you would have put that money into Tesla stock,
you'd be worth millions now.
It's like, oh, that hurts.
That's funny to think though,
just that back when we started the podcast,
if we would each put like 10 grand in Tesla stock,
how rich we would be.
Just as far back as when we were even already doing this podcast yeah we're not talking about like investing
in apple in 1975 you know like just like actually i think if we even would have invested in apple at
that time even there yeah it still would have paid off pretty well i think uh it's probably why we
just need to go invest more in apple right now today because in five years from now it'll it's actually funny because i think in one of our articles we wrote was what would you
tell yourself five years ago and i think one of your tips was to invest heavily in apple is what
you would have told yourself tanner i think i remember something and it's like that still
probably would have been true like that was kind of a joke yeah in the time period since then it
yeah that advice probably so i do remember that now yeah i was kind of making a little you know
because we were talking about training stuff but then i said you know and invest a whole bunch of
money in that like that was kind of my closing sentence yep okay so we're gonna jump to episode
119 and i want to hit about the 9 minute and 25 second mark i think is where we're after and i'm
not gonna tell you what do you have any idea what this is that i'm about ready to take you to because this zero clue at all what i will tell you this is an epic moment this is a you know a top
five moment in mass and massonomics history i still have no idea what this is not just the
podcast but this is a like a earth altering moment had we not have this oh okay i think i think i
know i think i know now had we not had this conversation, things could be significantly different today.
This is Lipschartz related.
I better not say anymore, but I would just say
that a lot hinges on this.
I'm going to unplug and get to the right spot first.
Oh, you didn't want to hear the intro again, Taylor?
No, no. We don't need to all listen to that again.
I'm going to get to about right there.
I'm going to plug in here.
I think we're at a good spot.
Days later, sitting in it.
I did have a kind of a bee in my bonnet about something.
Do you remember me saying bee in my bonnet?
I don't remember that specifically, but it's like, yep, here comes the setup.
Oh, was something grinding your ears? Yeah, something. Did I look back with the rage? specifically but it's like yep here comes the setup okay oh well something it's funny how we're laughing about things now like the podcast has
significantly changed from episode 2 to 119 which is like two years and it laps right right okay
calm down over there
so our our new shorts are lift shorts that we have out oh yeah they're uh they're pretty cool
and we've gotten good reception from those we've sold quite a few pairs and uh i think people have
been pretty happy with them and i love them personally of course i'm biased though yeah
uh but we've had a few posts about them, and we got some negative Nancys.
Multiple?
I only remember the one.
It started with one.
Okay, there's more got pulled into the pool.
Yeah.
Jesus.
Jesus.
I mean, basically, you're going to get a brief lesson on what it is we do here.
It's an economics 101 right here, guys.
And you can't fault us i mean if if you think
we're doing anything uh unethical or anything i think you'll find out otherwise because well and
i think we played the long game about it exactly what you do and i think it'll be unethical yes
fairly reasonable and not reasonable so when we sell products from our website we try to sell them
for more than what we purchase them for believe it or not and we are not yet set up just like i
did no that's why you just laughed like the exact same at the exact same point we try to make things
for more than what we sell them for it's so stupid stupid. It's like that needs to even be said.
It's like, oh, three years have elapsed
and it still makes me laugh the same amount.
It still garners the exact same laugh
that it did three years ago.
It's still a good nose breath.
And actually, believe it or not,
we still don't take home any money.
Right.
So like, while we are charging for more than we buy for
that item somehow yet none of us have any money right so so let's start with that yeah just like
that's like uh the 10 000 foot level once you understand tables turn i reference the 10 000
how often do i do i do i say 10,000 foot level in every episode?
And I don't know because I've,
I've worked with someone that uses the,
the 10,000 foot or the 30,000 foot.
Yeah.
I say a lot.
Yeah.
And when,
when I heard you say it in the first episode there,
I thought,
wow,
I've never heard Tanner say that.
And now you just said it again,
which is surprising.
And I didn't know that,
that we're going to experience that in this time travel journey.
Now I'm like, do I say that every day?
Wow.
Maybe you say it in every episode.
Okay, so we're going to keep going and hopefully get you more of that 10,000-foot view.
Yes, I want the 10,000-foot view.
Then we can get into the next part of it.
So I posted about the shorts, and like I said, a lot of positive comments.
Almost all good, just one bad one.
I had to squeak in there and get a beat in my pocket. Fives of people loved what we were doing. almost all good. Just one bad one.
Fives of people loved what we were doing.
So he said something to the effect of
a brief line like
oh, so you bought these shorts
for $15 and just put your
logo on them and are charging $10 more?
No thanks. I'll just buy
the plain ones.
So I kind of had it right yeah this is back before i
mean now you listen to this and you say you idiot this phrase is nah i'm good with the plain ones
but i'm like i kind of did summarize that yeah welcome to massonomics day one yeah
which also if that's what if first of all if that's what you are into that's fine i don't
know why you would feel the need to like tell us that it is literally the equivalent of going
all right so lebron james just signed with the lakers okay but i can just get a plain
you fading us out there yeah okay i was just doing a fade out because i that that
i mean i think we got the point of that yeah that yeah that is yeah that is a trip that was pretty
good isn't it wow yeah that was really good what was that 100 and what 119 wow nine minutes and 25
seconds in july 2018 i the lift shorts were really really was the episode titled that or no so how did you know where to find that i went to our catalog on our website of all of them and i because it was in the description
so i did a control oh okay i pulled up all the summaries on one page gotcha and loaded them all
so i'm at was that 100 through two so you were just hoping it was in the description and i was
just hoping it was in the description and so i was just hoping it was in the description. And so I was just control effing for lift shorts or, you know, and like it came up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's kind of how I went about most of these, but it was a little bit of a process.
Yeah.
Wow.
Okay.
So next we're going to go not too far, not too far down the road from there.
We're going to just zip ahead five weeks in time is all we're going this time.
We're going to go zip ahead five weeks in time is all we're going this time. We're going to go to episode 124.
And this was also a pivotal moment in massomics podcast history.
This one is.
Yep.
You should.
This one may be more.
I didn't realize it was only five weeks apart.
Yeah.
Like so.
So the lift shorts were literally just but barely even a thing at this point.
Yeah.
They were a month. They were arguably not even a thing at this point yeah they were a month they were arguably
not even a thing yeah right and we want to get to let's see about right here i think is where we'll
hop in and this is of course a pivotal moment in mass economics history the robot lady was probably
starting to talk huge announcement so you might not have heard it. Our Australian robot lady.
So the big announcement
is this will be my
last episode. As a male.
As a man.
As a man who is
not
locked up. Who is the host
of the Mastanomics podcast.
I like how this turned into...
I like how we didn't like even allow him yeah
just in true massonomics podcast form we just had to like finish sentences and crack jokes
uh okay my own personal new gender reveal
but um yeah so i am actually i don't even know we've teased at some like
transitions i think that are going on not genital wise
but about i think about like teasing about me moving out of my house i think generally on the
podcast though if you're just a podcast listener you probably don't know what's going on probably not unless you follow us on instagram but so the situation is um tanner and i just fucking hate knock down drago i mean
just we vandalize each other's homes i'm in the middle of this i've seen it the other day
i was in the tyler squat rack in the gym and he came in and said, five minutes.
Kurt Kowalski.
And I didn't move.
So he threw the 45 pound play down.
So Tyler's going away message.
And that was 124.
And that was back in August of 2018. And he still didn't even get to it.
We were,
we were like several minutes into that conversation and he still hadn't
gotten to the.
With us turning it into him.
Yeah.
His transgender coming up.
Yeah.
Wow. So that was a coming out. Yeah, yeah. Wow.
So that was a good one.
Obviously, that rocked the Massonomics podcast world.
That did change the trajectory.
Funny sitting here now.
So that was August 2018.
Tyler was leaving to go overseas.
And I lifted with Tyler at the gym today.
He's back.
Wow, yeah. A lot of time went. a lot of massonomics podcasts the more they change the more they stay the same that's true
okay we are going to jump ahead now this is still 2018 2018 was a big was a was a pivotal year for
the massonomics podcast in a lot of ways you know we had the lift shorts uh tyler left now we're going to jump to november
of 2018 this is episode 38 or ah sorry episode 138 i was gonna say you're really tricking me now
yeah and we're going to go to about let's see um this is about 59 minutes in this podcast was titled who is tomahawk d i think i just kind of
interviewed you okay and because after tyler left we would have where would we have held 125 125 i
think was like in massonomics yeah i think we did like four of them in the gym yeah like you me and
ryan brother ryan and ryan did a few with us there where we did like uh we're gonna look at do it
like he was like the third new third man.
Yep.
And then I think at the time it was like,
ah,
we don't need to bug him with.
Right.
Right.
Well,
it was different.
He's not part of the company.
It's like,
well,
what value is really in it for him?
And like,
how can we make sure he has value?
And then we were doing them Sunday night.
It's like,
ah,
we don't need to tie up his Sunday after night.
Right.
Cause there was a point in time where we were like,
well,
how can we really do a two-man show?
That was an actual conversation.
Does this work with two people?
Tyler had always facilitated the host.
And he did the editing, the production, all that.
We didn't touch that at all.
No.
So that was actually a hurdle that we had to figure out
at that point in time then.
But now this is going to jump to episode 138 and we're going to go to a search for scrub for about the 59 minute mark
oh that's pretty deep in there yeah so this is a first on the massonomics podcast in episode 138
i think i might yeah now that we think about the time that's yeah yeah so this is the first and i think it's important
to note what year this what when this was this was november 2018 you heard it here first november
2018 so if anyone want to talk wants to talk about this going on on other podcasts you find out
were they doing it by november 2018 because we were yeah were they doing in october of 2018
right right then they beat us yes right but which i'm not claiming one way or another on any but
like this was at this point multiple years ago we're looking at like two and a half years ago
this first surfaced and several hundred episodes yes okay so here we go
there's a lot of stuff you learn i've learned even just from yeah just about the printing and several hundred episodes. Yes. Okay, so here we go.
There's a lot of stuff you learn.
I've learned even just from... Yeah, just about the printing industry.
Where do you think we were here?
Do you think we were in your basement at your old house?
I know.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure we were.
Yeah.
Learned a lot about it.
Right, that I wouldn't have known otherwise.
Now I'll get into these underrated and overrated.
And we got a little time, so we don't have to buzz through them.
And I guess I only did six or seven here.
So your options are, these are either to you underrated or overrated.
I feel like you've got to try to pick one of those because that puts it in a.
Yep, black and white.
Yeah, and it's tough.
I got it from right on.
Yeah, right, right.
So number one, underrated or overrated?
Second season of Making a Murderer.
Maybe we'll just listen to a couple of these and see what you said.
Well, I think people all say it sucks.
So, I think, I don't say it sucks,
but I think the general consensus is that it's not as good as the first.
So, by that, I'm going to say it's underrated because I enjoyed it.
Most people didn't like it.
I'm surprised myself. Okay, underrated because I enjoyed it. Okay. Most people didn't like it. So you're surprised myself.
Yeah.
Okay.
And you,
you have seen it all.
I haven't seen it.
And I haven't seen it.
So that was,
so that was like giving me some insight.
I'm going to say it's underrated just because when I got done watching it,
most people were like,
nah,
not as good,
not very good.
And you thought it wasn't,
was you thought it was worth your time?
It was,
I thought it was worth my time.
I did enjoy watching it. Still worth your time. Under thought it was worth my time. I did enjoy watching it.
Still worth your time?
Underrated or overrated?
Walked out squats.
Walked out squats.
Do we even want to?
I think they're underrated.
What's the other topic?
I don't know.
The aim is to really be strong.
Then let's do things that prove you're strong.
Let's see.
Ham's underrated.
Thanksgiving food.
Ham is underrated.
Well, I think turkey's overrated.
Definitely.
Turkey is overrated.
Turkey's good if you smother it in gravy and don't have white meat.
Thanksgiving food's overrated.
People love to freak out about it.
You can make that stuff.
I agree.
Do you know how easy it is to make stuffing?
I remember the first time I made stuffing, I was like, that's it?
You put this little box in the little pot and you wait five minutes?
Like talking about this?
Do you still remember the first time you made stuffing?
Oh, yeah.
I totally do.
That's not work, but the stuff in the box tastes really good.
It takes five minutes and it's like a dollar.
Thanksgiving's half done already there.
So overrated Thanksgiving food.
Underrated or overrated?
Wrist wraps for the bench press.
I don't like all these lifting ones.
Yeah, they're very lifting related.
Was that it?
I didn't even know that was a debate.
I don't think it is.
I guess, but I don't really know.
I guess if it feels like it makes you more competitive, sure.
Yeah.
So I think wrist wraps are underrated
just confused that way these are all gonna be just like went against the grain it's rated uh
this one goes back a little bit to uh this fall fall time year and food pumpkin spice
insert here pumpkin spice flavored overrated fall i think i don't. I don't have a problem with it.
It all tastes good, but I don't get excited for it at all.
So I'm going to say overrated.
The most pumpkin spice I get really for anything.
See, I'm an Apple guy.
You're doing it wrong.
You could be buying tons of music.
But a Spotify premium.
Oh, you have?
Oh, compared to other ones?
Yeah, that's not necessarily what I'm saying.
But now I'm asking you that now.
Is that the one that you would use?
I'm almost forgetting we're podcasting right now
because I'm just listening.
I don't think I'd use Apple Music.
It probably plays nicer with all my stuff,
but I like Spotify.
I don't think I would, like, Tidal's one, too.
I would never do Tidal.
Wow, that was the birth of it yeah
so that was spotify underrated and we kept let's see if there was one more don't be listening to
pandora you're doing it wrong yeah i think that's what i said at the beginning there's like six
which is more than we normally do it blows my mind how bad pandora is yeah um what are we at
are we getting we're at an hour five minutes i did just out of our normal segments
we'll just even skip big lifts for the week but i did also big lifts was because i went as i was
searching for this i found prior to over uh over under being our marquee segment we were talking
about how big lifts was our fastest growing most popular segment big lifts has been phased out altogether it has been
and actually i forgot that was even a thing because we still even talk about some big lifts
right this last year there's been very few big lifts but right but we don't refer to it as big
lifts no i mean we actually might even say the word big lifts but we don't call it a segment but
so should there be a return wow they might have to be they might have to roll time i totally forgot
that big lift segments preceded um anything else over under
uh sack segment is the og was that first yeah sax big event is very og that's uh very old school
okay so there is one more stop on the tour oh there's one more this is the last one we're
gonna jump to you're not gonna guess what we're gonna jump to here this is a wild card uh stop on the tour this is episode 157
april of 2019 this is our last stop because i think anything newer than this is just not that
old so as we just have too fresh of a memory on it so we're gonna go to 157 this is about 100
episodes ago how far in are we we're at 39 can i take one guess 30 can i take one you can i just
don't want you to guess it right. Oh, I might guess it right.
Okay, you could guess.
Okay, I have a feeling it might be ejaculate, maybe.
We'll just get to the segment, or get to what we're getting to here.
So I said about 3930.
39.
And what did I say?
This is April.
April of when when April of 2019
2019 okay here we go
what that really is supposed to mean
it's an unusual name
for your pre-workout maybe I heard
at some point I get three
and a half star rating
out of ten or five
doesn't say how much caffeine
it has in it?
I think I might be a little early here, but we'll get to it.
Actually, this must be kind of old because all the reviews are from 2014 and 2015.
So we're playing supplements.
It gets referenced a lot.
Another lost segment.
Another lost one.
I still don't understand what White Flood,
but why that way we picked that up.
White Flood.
That's what it really is supposed to mean.
It's an
unusual name yeah pre-workout maybe i heard at some at some point in time and get hit by the old
white flood okay okay so tanner this is pre what's on a can yeah 25 percent 33 soon to be 25
okay so this will be our final our final supplement the lightning round I remember I was very excited for this in our first ever supplement
real or fake
the final supplement
ejaculoid
you can say it, it's kind of fun
ejaculoid
I don't know if I said it
I'm giggling because it's so fun to say
and I made it up
when we say supplement
technically a supplement is
actually I don't even know if there's an actual
real definition for supplement
you could probably classify ammonia as a supplement if you wanted to.
Right, right.
Ejaculoid.
Ejaculoid.
If you're listening right now, feel free to say it out loud.
It's really fun to say.
It still is.
I try to think of what the product would be,
and that's one that would escape me of what the marketing would be and that's one that would escape me
of what the marketing would be
of what you would choose
to market as a capyloid
I would almost
if it is real come back to
being a pre-workout
that seems like it's the blanket thing
you just go crazy with
ridiculous names on a pre-workout
because it's just like oh there's so much
caffeine and muscle or skin-bursting pumps that you'll be ejaculating
all over the place.
Ejaculating.
I feel like it would be hard to make that up.
See what my answer was.
Are you doubting my creative skills here?
I'm pretty sure you said it's fake.
I'm pretty sure.
But then it's also when you're you
know when you're taking a test and you're like oh shit but all the answers can't be a you know
then you start to guess like oh i have to go back and change i think every single thing was true
i think they can't all be true i have you in a real riddle yeah and i think they were all
you were i was going to go with fake because I cannot pinpoint what the supplement would be.
Old me,
you're so stupid.
Or young me,
I guess.
So in the world's first ever supplement,
real or fake segment,
Tanner,
you went one for four.
Ejaculate is real.
Oh,
that is great.
So that concludes our tour. And now here we are back in uh march of 2021
that is that's really good yeah that was uh that was a fun we're we're well into this podcast we
got a lot to go tanner that was really fun that was a good little i'm glad you did that because
i would not have taken the time to do that that took a little while those were some pivotal
moments those were those were the five I wanted to come up with five.
Cause I think five was a sweet number of like,
not like during drain,
drawing it out too long,
but like hitting some good ones could have found some other good ones in
there,
but those are five pretty cool.
Pretty fun ones.
Yeah.
Wow.
That was,
that was,
that was fun.
That was good.
Also how we were like worried about when we're hitting the hour mark that
we need.
Oh yeah.
It's like,
Oh, it's good. We should probably get those guys yeah we're at 50 minutes
now we haven't even read our mid-roll ads yet so let's read those right now yes today's episode

Today's show was also brought to you by Texas Power Bars. Buddy Caps first started lifting
weights in the late 60s and began powerlifting in the mid-70s.
At the time, he was working for Image Barbell building gym equipment.
Around 1976, a local machine shop started making Olympic bars for them, calling it the Image Bar.
In 1977, Image Barbell became Champion Barbell.
It was then that Buddy started looking at the bars with an intent of changing them for the better.
In 1979, Buddy
bought his first lathe to begin addressing the known issues. In 1980, his passion, drive, and
purpose now had a greater mission. Buddy set out on his own to make what he believed was the greatest
bar he'd ever seen and trained with, and the Texas Power Bar was born. It was strong as a house with
the best knurling and was maintenance-free. Hundreds of state, national, international,
world, and massonomics powerlifting records have been

You know, you're probably on the beach in California
with a garage full of Ferraris.
I would assume so.
And books.
These Ferraris might be cool, but you know what?
You know what's cooler than a Ferrari?
Books.
I read three a day.
That's what I do.
A little YouTuber tip for you there.
Okay, Tanner, should we get started?
Oh, yes. Okay, well, Tanner.
All right, Tanner Baird.
You are the newest contestant on
Who Knows Masonomics.
All right.
A new sound button?
I'm already just... Do you feel pretty good about that?
This is already a success.
Yeah.
Okay.
So, all right, guys.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have Tanner Baird up.
Can we get a round of applause?
There we go.
Okay.
Okay, Tanner.
How's it feel to be on the show?
I'm just excited to be here.
We flew in all the way in from western Northeast South Dakota, and I've been trying to get
on for years, so I'm excited to play.
Just really happy to be here.
Okay, okay, very cool.
So Tanner, we're going to play a game called Who Knows Mass?
Do You Know Massonomics?
And we're going to talk.
I did some digging.
I have pages of data here.
Get a little research yourself.
Pages of data.
I don't know if you can see this. There's so much much data it took two whole pieces of paper to fit it all on
here that's a lot of data it is it is a lot and um i'm gonna keep score here tanner you will be
you will be scored this is a pass your notebook oh okay so it's a write-on yeah but um so i have
a series of questions that i researched for massonomics. How many is there?
Um, 14 questions.
Damn.
So that's a lot of questions.
I did some research here.
So is this, I'm the contestant that you are the contestant.
You are the crowd was cheering for you.
Didn't you hear them?
I'm just so nervous right now.
You should be, you should be.
Okay.
Okay.
So I'm going to ask some questions, some questions.
You're just going to have to guess.
Some questions, I might give you some.
Can I phone a friend?
Actually, if you want to phone a friend, I will allow you to phone a friend.
Okay.
Okay.
You're already changing the rules on me.
I will allow.
I will allow.
How many lifelines do I get?
I will allow one phone a friend.
Can I poll the audience?
Can I put an Instagram poll on?
I would allow that, but it might take too long. So, okay. I will allow a phone a friend. Can I pull the audience? Can I put an Instagram poll on? I would allow that, but it might take too long.
So, okay, I will allow a phone a friend.
If you come up with another good lifeline, I might allow that.
Okay.
I'm in control of the show, so I might allow that.
But I do have it marked right here.
One phone a friend.
One phone a friend.
I'll make sure to cross this off so I don't forget that you phone and try and phone another one and confuse me.
Right, right, right.
Should we get started?
Let's do it.
All right.
I just want to hear the theme song again.
All right.
Tanner up.
Thank you.
This game has a very like 70s vibe.
Okay, Tanner.
The first question on,
do you know Masonomics?
This is for the most part,
this is podcast related
questions are these in ascending order of difficulty like the million dollar no but
they kind of are grouped sort of by the category they talk about so okay so first up we are talking
i have to go like i'm so nervous yeah yeah i actually should have got the more intense music
that plays now just over and over.
But can you, all right, I am going to give you on this first one, I'm going to give you a multiple choice.
So the first question is, how many countries have downloaded a Masonomics podcast episode?
And so in case you're wondering how many countries exist in the world, that number's a little up for debate um which is funny which it's just funny well it depends on funny that that is
yeah so according to 190 according to wikipedia we have 195 countries in the world i think the un
recognizes 193 like they don't recognize palestine yeah like one other thing but
it's a big number i already know it's a big number. I already know it's a big number. So it's 195 countries in the world. So, so how many countries have downloaded an episode of the Masonomics
podcast? Is it a 101 B 133 C 142 or D 151? How many people, how many countries have downloaded an episode of the massonomics
podcast? I know it's a big number, so I'm going to say A's out. Okay. You're saying A is out.
A is out. I feel confident about that off the bat. Okay. You feel good getting rid of that one.
Yeah. Cause it's just a staggeringly large number I feel like. Well, it can't be
larger than 195.
But like it seems insane
that it has been listened to
in over like 20 countries.
Just someone, you out there
name more than 25 countries.
Also, the lowest number on the list is
101. So you're taking that
out. But like what if someone just told you name
25 countries? Could you do it? I could it i could okay i mean that's a lot yeah yeah right write them down
you'd have to write them down and not say yeah yeah um name a hundred nobody oh yeah i don't
believe anyone can do that like show me the person that can name 100 countries never been done before
never been done you'd be, you cannot do it.
Okay, so tell me B, C, and D again.
You took out A, so your choices are B, 133 countries,
C, 142, or D, 151.
See, those are so close. I'm just going to take a stab in the dark and say it's C.
I'm going to pick the middle one of those, 142.
You said C. There's
142 countries that have downloaded an episode of the Masonomics podcast. Tanner, that answer is
wrong. There has been 133 countries that have downloaded an episode of the Masonomics podcast.
Damn it. I was very close. I was within nine were i i mean i did make that kind of tricky on
you so 133 that is a pretty impressive number i would have never guessed that yeah i knew it was
big i've seen some analytics on that before and i just yeah you know i'm not going to remember the
number but i just knew it was and i should tell so these are pulling these analytics are pulled
from our podcast hosting platform which we didn't switch to like the first two and a half
or so years of the massonomics podcast we weren't on this one right so this isn't the lifetime data
of the massonomics podcast it's about the last two and a half three years i can't remember for
sure when the switch is but it's probably 80 i would say it's download probably even more
those first 100 episodes i mean there was many people listening um so this is for
the most part the data that matters okay damn it i wanted to start with a win next up next up
on do you know massonomics tanner what country is massonomics most popular in and i'm actually
going to say i'm actually going to say can you name two of the three most popular countries for Masonomics?
I have a list of actually the top five.
But can you name two of the three most popular countries for Masonomics podcast downloads?
United States.
Correct.
Then conventional wisdom next would tell me Canada.
What's the country?
Is it United Kingdom the country?
Yeah.
Okay.
Because I think those are the top two coming to mind after that.
I also would think Australia is up there at some level.
I'm going to go United States, of course.
Number one, got to be.
And then I'm going to say Canada because I'm pretty sure that's two or three.
Okay.
With Tanner.
Swapping that with maybe UK. And I'm not going to go into the exact details on the numbers yeah just because this
does involve our sponsors maybe a little bit but um top three countries from asinomics number one
is united states i don't think that's a surprise anyone number two united kingdom number three
canada okay the difference between those two lifetime since we've been keeping
track, about 150 down the list.
So they are almost identical.
So I kind of had that spot on, but I shouldn't be able to get that.
Rounding out the top five, we have Australia,
Sweden, and also Germany
makes an honorable mention there.
So Tanner,
you were correct.
You really had to redo the soundboard there.
I had to work on it a little bit.
So you were officially up to one point.
And it seems like you know which ones are which too.
I color code them for my brain to make sense.
Oh yeah.
Red is ant.
Yeah.
Green is thing.
Yeah.
It's a simple little system I taught myself.
So you can select which color those buttons show up as.
You pick what color you want.
You know, green there.
I know that the blue are the cool beans.
Obviously blue is cool beans, right?
Yeah.
It's cool.
Yeah.
All right. I know the top two are the cool beans obviously blue is cool beans right yeah it's cool the top two are the podcast start alright you are
you're doing okay so far Tanner
this is where things might get a little trickier
oh no
so we just talked about the most popular countries
name one
of the least popular
countries for Masonomics
and when I say least popular
I have a list of
i have a list of one two three four five six seven eight nine i have a list of nine countries
that have one massonomics podcast download in their history yeah and if you can name any one
of these countries you get a point so my challenge here is to think of the names of countries that you probably don't know i don't
think of the name but probably aren't north korea right they're probably not data for north korea i
suppose uh like we go in whoa we're like north korea is our number one country that's the first
one that this isn't my answer the first one that came to my mind as i'm scrubbing is indonesia and
i don't know why but as I think about it farther,
I think that that could have a few, you know, that could have more.
And then my next thought is like, what about like Iraq?
Like do you suppose they're listening to the Mastodonics podcast in Iraq?
Do you think there's one person that's listened to it there?
Or Afghanistan?
So that's my next thought was like the Middle East.
And then what I really want to get to is
african countries that i cannot think of the name names of them is madagascar a country i know it's
the island yeah i believe it is yeah i'm gonna say madagascar okay um your thinking wasn't wrong
and i i full disclosure i might not have grabbed all of the one download countries.
I think I did,
but I might not have grabbed all of them.
Tanner.
I do have to say you are wrong.
That was a hard one.
Countries with one downloads,
Turks and Caicos islands.
Where is that?
I don't really know.
I don't know what continent that's in.
Lichtenstein,
Mauritius,
Cuba only has one. That's interesting. Cape Verde. I don't know what continent that's in uh lichtenstein mauritius cuba only has one cube
that's interesting yeah cape verde i don't know where that is myanmar tunisia ghana and zambia
there would be some african countries for you there cuba out of the list of those is the only
one that i would even associate as being a country like readily available in my brain as a country i
believe like mauritius and turks and caacos i think those are like in the pacific somewhere maybe off of india i don't know right yeah i
don't know all of that so all right so tanner you are still at one point still at one point
that was a hard one that was a hard one this one might be a little easier for you name name three
sorry name two of our top three most popular states in America for downloads.
Two of the top three.
So he's, Tanner's drawing a map of the United States right now.
California is one of them.
Two of the top three.
So you have two left.
You have two guesses.
You have two left you got to get. All right, sorry, I said two of the top three. You just have to name one more have two guesses. You have two left. You got to get.
All right.
Sorry.
I said two of the top three.
You just have to name one more, Tanner.
You just have to name one more.
You get the point.
And I know I've looked at this before.
What I'm battling in my head is if South Dakota is in the top three or not.
And I know at times it has been.
I haven't looked at this data recently.
I feel like the longer time goes on,
the less pull we have within South Dakota relative to other states.
So then I'm back to what are the other top states
that I know it's hitting downloads in,
and I want to think about Texas being in there.
Okay.
downloads in and I want to think about Texas being in there.
Okay.
And I want to think about populous areas, New York State, perhaps.
It is a big state.
New York City is in New York State.
Yeah.
I guess I'm going to go.
My battle in my brain right now is whether I pick South Dakota or Texas.
I have a hard time there.
I'm going to say South Dakota is still in the top three.
I think you would be surprised to know that.
Oh, no.
In fact, South Dakota is not in the top seven.
It really has.
And see, that's what I'm afraid of.
It has fallen off.
Which is good news for me in this game, good news for the podcast, because as dakota moves down further it's because it's because other states are moving up more and
more yeah was texas in the top three texas is number two ah that's what i should have said so
california was one texas was two ohio three ohio that's and then uh rounding out the list we have
new york illinois florida virginia yeah and there starts to be a lot that i should have stuck with texas
says too because i kind of south dakota i'm pretty sure it was in the top 10 but it might have been
like 10 yeah and there was a long time where it was number one right so i think that's good for
us that that's going that is the direction i'm still counting that as a win even though i got
it wrong yeah so tanner you were still at one not that we don't want people in south dakota to
listen it's just that well statistically there's not as many people to listen.
Okay, now for this next one.
Can you name just one of our three least popular states?
I only need one.
We have three states where our numbers are pretty low.
I just need you to name one of them, Tanner.
Least popular states.
And I will give you one more lifeline you can use anytime.
It's called hint.
Okay.
And I'll give you a hint.
I still have a lot of questions here left.
You're only on question number five out of 14.
I'm thinking some of those New England states.
I like the way you're thinking.
Thinking some of those New England states.
You know, Rhode Island obviously being a relatively unpopulated one um if if our rhode island
numbers are down i do solely blame brandon diamond cam for not uh not promoting us enough
absolutely he the problem is i think he typically a lot of he's a youtube man of course as most know
well we're kind of youtube people too right right we do publish these episodes on youtube well and that's what i think he listened he watches on
youtube so all right that data that you do have a good point there those numbers are not included
in here right right um but then i i know there's rhode islands and a thought in my mind if you
need another beverage to tanner okay one more i'm leaning more towards those so what's directly southwest of maine there's
vermont is it is it vermont and what's the vermont and another one pair up to kind of form a why can't
i think of that uh yeah wow i cannot picture like where's bernie sanders from he's maine isn't he
or no he's vermont right okay he's vermont or is he the other one that I'm not thinking of?
Wow, why can't I think of what those would be?
God darn it, this is hard.
Let me just think of any geographically.
Wait a second, what about Alaska?
I wasn't thinking about Alaska.
Alaska, very unpopulated, very far from us.
Alaska intrigues me now that I'm thinking about Alaska.
Rhode Island still intrigues me, you know, is still, I'm going to say Rhode Island.
You are correct.
Rhode Island is one of us.
And now that you say it, I realized I had to look at the
map the way our analytics sort. It doesn't
give a list. It goes by a color-coded map.
Did you see Alaska? I didn't
even look at Alaska. Alaska could very
well be in here, but for the sake of this game, my
three least popular, we have Vermont, Delaware,
and Rhode Island. Delaware would
be another good one.
I was 100% on the right track.
What state is next to Vermont? Is that Delawareaware no delaware is the tiny little square yeah that's
right right and it's not connecticut it's not rhode island what state is that yeah there's
probably someone listening there right now and be like yeah there's definitely a lot of people
like god you guys are so dumb yeah um that would be let's get to the bottom i mean
i've been eating apple pies and drinking rose all night tanner i don't know what's going on anymore
that is vermont's the one on the left the one on the right it starts with an n new hampshire yeah
i was i could picture it perfectly in my head but uh I was right on the Rhode Island and Vermont.
And what did you say the third one was?
Vermont, Delaware, Rhode Island.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
What's up with the Northeasterners up there?
Not listening, not tuning in to the Mass Alarmist podcast.
But also New York is one of our biggest states.
So it's like also, this is just lower populated areas, I guess.
Right, right.
Okay. Question. Oh, I forgot to give you the well yeah my god that was that was well deserved that was well deserved i need those when i get them question number six now we are on to
most popular cities and this is the entire world that i'm saying cities for tanner so can you name two of our top three most popular cities for massonomics podcast
downloads two of our top what two of our top three most popular cities that's gonna be hard you know
what you know what no i'm gonna change this one because it is the whole world i'm gonna change it
to one you just name one of our cities that is in the top three for downloads. Of the world. Of the world.
Well, we know the United States is the most popular country.
Yep.
So I'm going to stick within the United States.
By a lot.
So I'm sticking within the United States.
I'd say that's a smart guess.
We know California is our most popular state,
although California is a very large state.
It is big.
With several large cities.
Texas was our number two, but also there's houston dallas austin there's houston
alice houston dallas austin would be the top three that come to mind mind their california
los angeles but also there's san diego san francisco um i think that's all of them yeah
and then new york was new York, our number three state,
which would be New York City as the...
New York was our number four state, but yeah, I mean, it was right up there.
And obviously that's probably hitting hard from New York City,
just given the population.
If I was to guess of which Texas city,
if I'm thinking Texas, would it be Houston, dallas or austin i guess i would think houston
if i'm thinking california what city i would just have to go with los angeles so i guess i'm just
going to say los angeles okay well uh los angeles is on the list but it is number one two three four
five on the list damn it uh number one one is New York City by quite a lot.
Really?
So I'm assuming New York State is basically New York City as far as our listeners go.
New York, Ontario, Canada is way up.
It's in the top three.
Also Chicago.
Chicago is up there too.
Sure.
Sioux Falls is very high on the list.
Oh, that's funny.
Los Angeles, D.C., the Bay Area, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose.
Then we have Minneapolis, Dallas, Boston, Atlanta.
All the major cities pretty much all just fall into place there.
Top five, not top three, though.
So the top number one is New York City.
It is New York City.
The Big Apple.
The Big Apple.
The Big Apple Pie, as they call it on the Mastodon podcast.
So I guess sorry for everyone from New York City that's listening,
which is the majority from New York.
Our number one city.
I apologize for just shitting on you and not picking you.
You were at least in the discussion of my thoughts, though.
Okay, so those were the geography questions of this.
We're going to move into, let's check out round two, Tanner.
He's coming in with two
points on the first six questions i feel like rejuvenated give him a round of applause
i kind of feel like i have a new lease on life okay okay so these are more about our actual
content now tanner okay so first one up here can you name the most downloaded episode on YouTube?
What is our most popular episode on YouTube of the podcast?
I think I would have got this because it always pops up in my recommended videos for some reason.
I don't know why.
I've never watched it on YouTube and YouTube wants me to watch this video so bad.
I don't know if maybe this would be the case for you, too.
Oh, no.
I basically can't open up YouTube ever in my life without this video being in my recommended videos.
And it's one of our podcast episodes.
It is one of our podcasts.
It is an old one.
It's a very old one.
When you hear it, you might be like, okay, that makes sense.
Okay, let me think.
when you,
when you hear it, you might be like,
okay,
that makes sense.
Okay.
Let me think.
Um,
you only have to think of,
it could be one of 249 episodes.
Right,
right,
right.
Well,
we didn't start video recording until like 32 with Nick Ty,
Lukey.
True.
Uh,
that's another podcast podcast trivia.
Yep.
Um,
what could it have been?
I will narrow it down and say it is in the first hundred.
Okay.
I'm thinking there was the Nick Ty Lueke.
There was Jonah Leo.
I'm wondering about the Dan Bell episode at the Arnold.
I know it's not in our top,
top all of YouTube videos because a lot of those are the,
Oh,
we have,
I just checked today.
We have our,
our most popular video ever is the Kaz interview.
It has over 90,000 views.
Oh, shit.
Shit, shit, shit.
Shit.
Top 100.
What else would have been super significant?
We weren't really having guests.
Would it have been Julian P pano when tyler interviewed julian that was another
one that i think uh got a decent number i'm gonna say that one
damn it this was a pretty hard question um it is episode 34 the bow tie in the inversion table
oh i think just because people think it's the just a bow tie review yeah inversion table. Oh. I think just because. People think it's a bow tie review.
Yep.
I think so.
And the thumbnail is literally the guy wearing a bow tie.
That's me wearing the bow tie, I think.
Brandon Campbell left a comment saying, I typed in bow tie and found you guys.
And you.
I should actually find it.
What did I?
And you said something like, we're a bad rash that won't go away.
We're everywhere.
And that was several years ago that he left that comment. But that on YouTube, that podcast episode, this is so dumb, has like 4,300 views.
Really? Yeah. Wow. For episode 34 of the Massanomics podcast. Am I wrong when I say
there's a lot of comments too of people saying like, this isn't a review of the bow tie or
something like that? There might be. I actually didn't read the full thing on it. I just saw
like the top. Oh, I wouldn't have guessed that yeah that's tough but now that you say it
i think i do recall that that doesn't make sense that it's like it probably is if you i bet if you
type in bow tie donnie thompson bow tie review it probably is one of the first ones that come up
yeah okay next up on the list hanner you are still at two points we're at we're at question
number eight you got a lot long ways to go is this like a weighted scoring system yeah it'll be very weighted against the other of the other
applicants okay um what is i just want two two i'll give you even a bigger range here two of our
top five most popular podcast episodes of all time i will give you a hint and this is this is not i'm not
counting in youtube numbers here right i'm counting just in our podcast download system
two of our top i will tell you they all involve guests yeah how about greg knuckles he is in the
top five greg knuckles i knew was a big one who else did we interview in the last
I know the Stan Efferding one is doing pretty well
I don't know if it's cracked top five or not yet though
it's pretty recent
that's the problem with the Stan Efferding one
it is only a couple weeks old
I think if it's not there yet it will be there in time
based on the trends I've noticed
two of the top five which one other ones stood
out to me that i know have top big numbers coop has a big number that's an older one it's like 173
that has a big number on it but it's also at a point when we weren't getting quite as many
downloads as we're getting now so that's what i'm worried about on that one that was uh almost two years ago now right when coop was here but i know that that was a well
received episode and outside of that who are some other big names that we've had on recently we had
you know stephy and hayden that's also been a little while that though now we had chad wesley smith is stan efforting in the top five he is not in the top bunch
damn it i'll give you one more crack at it i'll let you say one more name coop
so um some of our top five guests as far as podcast downloads this is not counting YouTube numbers, which could actually skew these.
For the most part, they're probably going to boost these.
Well, they're going to be consistent, yeah.
John Hack, Alan Thrall, Mark Ripto, Greg Knuckles, Joe Sullivan
would be all acceptable answers.
Yeah.
I should have remembered John Hack.
I knew that that was a big download one, too.
Yep. So, Tanner, you are writing two points in question number nine not good okay this one
can you name just one just one just making it like me like nah just just name anything one
of our least i have five downloaded episodes least downloaded episodes ever i have five of
them right here i just need to name one of them the party cast episode like 34 so the party cast
episode one and the party cast part two episodes 32 and 33 are both in the list the least downloaded
episode we have um since we've been on our new system of all time is Scott McGee of the
WODcast podcast, which is kind of
surprising because that's someone that has a
name to it.
He is our least popular.
The PartyCast, the State
USAPL Meet Recap, episode 53,
episode number 23,
Trevor Bata is also in there,
and then the PartyCast part 2.
Really shocked that the PartyCast part 2. Really shocked that the PartyCast Part 2
has more downloads than the PartyCast Part 1.
So I got that.
I knew the PartyCast.
I always remembered that that was a pour.
Yep.
Yep.
I would have guessed that one too.
I think you're going to feel pretty good about this one.
What is our first ever podcast episode on YouTube?
Nick Tyluke.
This guy knows his stuff.
Well, I should know that one too because I was always the video guy for years.
So I remember setting, I remember that one pretty vividly.
We made a trip to Minnesota to go do that one.
You know, that was.
Okay, Tanner.
I think you might turn your luck around a little bit here.
So these ones are.
I'm on a hot streak.
These ones are more guest related now.
Okay.
Okay. So think of, think of guests. We don't need to a hot street. These ones are more guest related now. Okay. Okay.
So think of,
think of guests.
We don't need to think of geography.
We don't think anything of numbers.
We're talking guests.
First ever guest.
Who was it?
Jonah Leo.
Oh,
wait a second.
Wait a second.
Wait a second.
Guest as in anyone that's not me or Tanner.
I should have clarified yeah yeah
yeah yeah you or tyler right right right i consider them okay yeah yeah
someone local it was someone local then i'm gonna say
you know because we had people from the gym on we had your brother
we had uh ross from the gym we had leah and megan from the gym
guest guest guest who else did we talk to we had um
i'm gonna say it was your bro i would would say it was Ryan DeFay. And the answer is. Oh, no.
Episode 10, June 12th, 2016.
Episode 10, Do You Even Eat, Bro?
Part 3, The Sean's Files.
Oh, right.
He was a call-in guest for us.
Yeah, we set up the call.
He had a microphone even.
Yeah, yeah.
I remember it now.
He had a call and a microphone.
I listened to a tiny little bit of it today in prepping for this and it made me laugh sean's files yes i remember that i remember that episode
that one sticks out to me okay so that was our first ever guest okay uh next question episode 12
can you name our first ever in person guest now i go back to the same line of thinking I was just on because I was forgetting Sean's.
Oh,
and I'm just not sure who of those,
which one of those was first in the order.
I said,
I'm going to go with your brother again.
Cause I feel like we had,
he's good access to,
I'm going to say flying Ryan.
No,
the following week,
episode 11 squat every Day featuring Ross Taylor.
Yeah, he was on my list, my short list.
Yep, you did say his name.
Yeah.
You did say his name.
Okay, can you name our first ever travel guest?
Jonah Leo.
I got to think it's Jonah Leo.
Oh, just wait.
Let me rethink it then.
Travel.
You haven't used your phone a friend yet. i could call tyler we have we have two questions
left i wouldn't save tyler for the last one so okay um first ever travel guest so did he go
somewhere before we went to jonah did he go to what was the trevorata? Trevor Bata.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yep.
Yeah. Trevor Bata.
Yep.
And that was,
uh,
episode 23.
Okay.
September 11th,
2016.
Yeah.
See,
that one's a hard one for me to remember because I didn't live that.
I wouldn't have guessed that either.
Right.
To me,
that was a few down the line for some reason.
Yeah.
Um,
okay.
Final question, Tanner.
Do you know Masonomics?
Which so far I've kind of proven not very well.
You have five points out of an available 13 so far.
Question number 14.
What episode number did Tyler leave?
124.
Correct.
Correct.
Yes.
And that is the end of Do You Know Masonomics?
Woo!
All right.
That was a fun game.
It really felt like I was on a game show there.
Yeah, it was.
I wish we had so much trivia that we could play that every week.
Well, you know, we could actually. It's just the questions might be really hard to answer that's true that was a funny not that those questions were easy to answer no those were very hard it's
one of those things i'm like i can't do episode numbers for like hardly any quite like the only
the only one you could really do an episode number four was like tyler's things i'm like i think
yeah probably no yeah and especially since we just revisited that,
it makes it hard to like go to in depth on what we talked about on certain
episodes,
because unless you can track down what that episode was,
it's really hard to even know what you talked about.
Right.
That was a really fun game.
Yeah.
I'm a little disappointed in my performance,
of course,
but you can't have it all.
Nonetheless,
a fun game.
Yeah.
Uh,
what?
Otherwise, like what, what otherwise like what did you have
any other notes on uh just five years of podcasting well it is kind of crazy that we've probably seen
more growth in our last several months than we have seen in ever yeah it took us a, that's always the thing.
Like it took us,
uh,
four years to get to like,
to get anything.
Right.
Right.
Anything.
Right.
And then,
uh,
uh,
that's true.
It is weird how,
when,
even when you rattle off our top five episode downloads,
they're all within,
not one of them is more than a couple months old.
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
With the exception of the Mark Ripto,
which was last summer.
Right.
They're all within a year.
Most of them were just a couple months ago.
Some of them weren't more than several weeks ago.
Right.
Yeah.
So that's a good sign for us.
That's a good sign.
It would really suck if all of our best episodes ever were from episode 30 to 50.
Right.
Which that's all of our worst episodes ever.
So that's what you want.
And also those episodes did have the most time to be downloaded too these are all-time downloads so right um the fact that these newer ones are beating out the older ones and they've had those
other ones have had years to collect downloads yeah that's a good sign for us that's a good sign
um another thing i was going to note is we just like when we started podcasting i was 29
we just like when we started podcasting i was 29 that's what i was actually thinking about today yeah how old were you when we started five years ago um i was 27 yeah it's like damn 27
27 i would wouldn't you feel young as shit if you were 27 again like yeah i am really young and like
so we both uh have had kids born since that time i've gotten married i have a
three-year-old kid that didn't exist yeah since that time i've gotten married i have a i have a
nine-month-old yeah you were married over the course of the i think i was married prior to
i think you were yeah far before yeah i think i don't even know honestly if i was
if you're engaged i wasn't even dating my wife actually at the time
when the podcast started that's kind of funny to think about it was crazy isn't it like yeah that
was a different guy completely yeah you're partying much much i was partying much much more um from
probably from the first episode to now i've probably gained 45 pounds lost 30 pounds um yeah gone through a lot of changes the massonomics has
gone through a lot of changes i've started a job and then started a business since then how many
jobs have you actually been at since you i just won i did have a previous job and then i quit that
to do tommy d creative my business i own now um but then i mean massonomics itself wasn't but you
weren't working at a prior, even a
employer.
No, no, not that long.
Okay.
Okay.
But, uh, yeah, I've worked at a couple of different jobs.
So I can't even remember because I actually work now at the, at a, I, so I worked at a
place.
Yep.
I left to go to a, a bank, a different bank or a different place.
Then I came back to the original place that i worked
and i'm actually like in the same office that i was and i'm not sure i think i may have been
working in my original job when we started the podcast oh the original yeah you could have
actually then i quit left to another job and have since came back to the same job it is possible
yeah it is possible yeah so but it is just funny like i can't even remember that it's so long i
don't even and it's like we're talking five years also right right yeah yeah wow yeah yeah so a lot
has happened yeah yeah you're late 20s early 30s there is quite a bit of stuff that does happen so
there is um but you have five years it's and would we have guessed if uh we would have ever hit the
five year when we we listened to that
us talking on episode two as dry and boring as that was my guess would have been no chance in
hell yeah so i take my uh training pretty seriously um look at it from the 10,000 let me
just get the 10,000 foot view here for you let me break it down for all you simple people out there
say this is the view when we're at floor
level if i'm going to take you up to 10 000 approximately 10 000 feet approximately two
miles uh and then we're going to look down and that'll be the overall 10 000 foot view and
miles 2 500 feet or 50 200 okay so what two miles yeah two mile view almost two miles approximately
10 000 feet that's gonna be our view i'll be your pilot on this ride this 10 000 foot view drive like it
would be hard for us to just especially sometimes when we have guests they talk for a while and
they'll monologue and say stuff you know they'll go into something serious and we won't laugh for
a little while when it's just you and i it would be so hard to go four minutes without laughing oh
well it's not fun to do that like i don't want to do this if it's not fun you know exactly that is
that is true there's enough people that do the serious side of things that's right we don't need to contribute to that part of
it oh i've actually just recently we've had a lot of feedback lately people i mean this stands to
reason with exactly what we're saying people that said i just found your podcast i think there's a
lot of yeah there's a lot of that every and feedback like i just found your podcast oh man
i'm so happy to find it because
it's refreshing to find some people that are interested in lifting but it's not about the
science and lifting you know it's like it's like because i don't want like and that's i'm just kind
of paraphrasing what people have said to me and i'm like of course that's what we're after like
if you're coming to us for the science of training or nutrition,
stick around for five more years, you're still going to be disappointed.
Also, that's what everyone's trying to do.
So it –
All right.
Like could you pick a more saturated spot in the fitness space to be in
besides maybe like fit tees and like quick abs?
Yeah.
Like that's almost what that is now.
Like even podcasting has drastic –
as a whole has
drastically changed from when we started a podcast it has actually it is crazy five years ago there
was a lot of people that still didn't know what podcasts were right now like it is so much more
mainstream than it was then it is i do know when we started it we had the thought that man we should
have started this like a couple of years ago.
Like, are we getting into it too late?
It's funny that that was actually a thought. We really thought that.
It was like, oh, everyone's already got a podcast.
You know, why are we starting now?
And now everyone really does have a podcast.
But their podcast doesn't have billboards, though.
That's true.
We've had billboards.
The amount of changes, I mean, it's just so immense.
Like, we can't even really. We could drive down a road in our town right now and see our We've had billboard. The amount of changes, I mean, it's just so like we can't even really,
we do have a,
we could drive down a road in our town right now and see our faces on a
billboard.
And it's a billboard that makes no goddamn sense to anyone that lives in
this town.
So if you just,
that's the note here is if you just stick out podcasting for five years,
you can have a billboard.
That's all you gotta do to get a billboard.
Do it for five years where people that I work with will say,
Oh,
I saw you have a billet board.
Have you got some feedback?
Yeah, I since have.
See, I forget.
I don't go into an, I'm a solo guy, you know?
Yeah, right, right.
So I don't ever have to hear people's reactions to my.
There's a couple people that have said it
that I know kind of get it.
They're like, ah, yes, this is something
that is at least supposed to be funny.
Like there's
there's satire involved here but an overwhelming amount of what i've heard was like oh it's like
oh they're really taking a shot yeah right like yes next time maybe they could pay someone to
make the letters straight instead of slightly crooked like and maybe they could find like
someone saying something good about them they must have paid a lot of money for someone to take those pictures.
Too bad someone couldn't have left a good review.
Only you knew.
Yeah.
Yep.
I don't know.
Anything else about...
We got to...
And I guess we're not done yet, are we?
No, I don't think so.
We do have...
It sounds so dumb to say, but we do have some big things,
some big things planned for this year.
We really do like more so than ever in the history of massonomics.
Do we have ideas and products coming out that we never thought were possible?
We are so much insanely busier with massonomics than what we were like four or five years ago to like five years ago we like recorded the podcast got the podcast ready and put it out and like we tried
to sell a shirt the amount of time that massonomics took was however long it took to go to tyler's on
a sunday night and do it that's what that's what massonomics was and then you would post stuff on
instagram that's what massonomics was now it's like we have multiple phone calls during the week
that ranged from most days at
this point from 20 minutes to an hour plus yeah several days a week um this podcast which the
podcast starts you come to my house around 7 30 you leave around 10 30 ish yeah so there's three
hours right there you add in the editing the production time of all of this all of the time on social media all of the
time designing all the times back and forth with producers of our apparel and our products like
just inventory like there's i mean making new art like it's it wouldn't be crazy to say we spend
like 50 times more time on mass and i'm like in a week now that we do that easy yeah because it
was almost a non-existent number before right right which is all good like i say that in the light that like it's what we
want oh i would i would spend 50 more times if that's what it took for it to like just be like
this is what the job is but um it's in a really good spot right now and it's it's it's a lot of
fun because we still kind of just treat it like monopoly money i mean that's the reason why we're
putting up billboards and doing things that right right we can do whatever we want with it like
we're not in a position like a lot of other businesses where we have to rely on this
for our livelihood which there's nothing wrong with i would love someday to rely on mass
for my livelihood that would be great but right now we're not at that spot so we can play really
dumb with some stuff if we want to and there's no repercussions to you know what and i think
what we're finding is the dumber we get the better it works the more it resonates yeah it's like it's
like uh people even kind of in our space would look at maybe some of the stuff we're being doing
and be like what like you're just wasting that money and it's like it's really not wasting it
it was like what a best a month ago two months Tim Ferriss, a guy that probably is worth how many millions of dollars was making a big
deal about having a billboard in the middle of like literally the middle of
the middle of nowhere on the interstate,
like in Ohio or something.
And he thought it was so funny.
And it's like,
dude,
we have like what?
One 50th,
the net worth of you do.
And we've done two of those now.
Like,
and it's actually an area that has people that go and can look at it like right i don't know i don't know ours are funny and also
i have a way different look on businesses that i know do well over millions of dollars a year
and won't spend a dime on uh well and don't spend on marketing and design i mean that
people are idiots but yeah that's one thing but the number of businesses that are even millions
and even billions of dollar businesses that do giveaways that involve a hundred dollar items
i'm like right what that is what you're if if massonomics ever got to the point where i was
making five ten million dollars and we're gonna give you guys and and are gonna do just giveaways
disgusting giveaways giveaway total for the year was a a couple hundred dollar giveaways. What? That's like literally pennies.
No, we even this year.
Shocks me.
This year we have giveaways in the work that are huge in my eyes.
Retail value.
Thousands of dollars.
Yes.
Like I think like some really cool stuff.
And I don't think that that's like crazy amounts of money on our end.
And our market cap compared to these businesses that do millions
of dollars fractional or like like now when i see like literally like these mega companies and you
can win a 100 amazon gift card i'm like really yeah really that's how much you value this is
that you're offering up to fill out our survey and two lucky winners will win a 100 amazon gift card
damn yeah this is not worth anything to you yeah it, it's crazy. I agree with that. It's really, it's really opened up my eyes to the type of money that people
will spend on things for the sake of their business that would make no difference to their
business at the end of the day, but just hand, they just hamstring themselves so hard. Right.
I think you said a good point though, where we get to treat it a little bit like monopoly money.
I also think of it too.
Like the money is cool.
And we make a lot of jokes about the lift shorts and stuff.
Those aren't jokes.
That's true.
Very true.
Nothing fake there.
But like it is like us trying to make progress though.
The dollars and cents are more points on the scoreboard than anything to us.
Yep.
Definitely.
Like that is what,
it's just the metric of how we know one of the most important metrics of how
we know how it's working.
Yeah.
And we're not saying that like,
as in,
well,
massonomics doesn't make any money.
So we're just happy to be here.
Like I've worked jobs or my,
in my life where you don't make,
I don't make as much money.
I make massonomics right now.
So massonomics definitely makes money.
Right.
But it's just more still is just like,'s like a byproduct of right the thing we do is try to do fun and cool stuff and then the byproduct of it is somewhere down the line some money shakes
so the more way that the way we know if we're we're making more money come back to us we're
doing stuff that's actually cool yeah like that's so the incentives is to do more stuff
that's cool so that it can produce more money basically you know like it's a it's like indicator
then at the end of the year we say yeah at the end of the year we're like we definitely did cool
cool shit like it worked yeah people agree we thought it was cool now people agreed with us
that said yeah it was cool yeah we voted for it with our dollars. And, you know, we are
kind of in the entertainment space.
Especially in the entertainment space,
things are fickle and change in a
hurry and they do have a shelf life.
I don't know. Maybe five years from now
there's just... the world has
changed and Masonomics stuff isn't funny anymore
and no one likes it and no one cares.
Seems hard to believe. Maybe that's the case.
But in five years I'll be... if we're sitting here in five years that means i'm almost 40
oh that means you are out of touch that's what i would think you know that's what but
34 is also too old to be in touch so that we're already that ship has sailed i would say at this
point also would you say you get internet culture better than anyone else you know your age
but also would you say you get internet culture better than anyone else you know your age i feel like that kind of you know like i mean most parts yeah for the like at least like 90
percent of people my age or 95 i do have a fair i do have a friend group that does fairly well
keeping up with things but i also do have friends that have no like right massonomics makes no sense
to them at all which is really funny too that how is that that we're the same age and we we have a very different understanding of culture in america yeah yeah right right
yeah like meme culture and stuff which are very involved in yeah and just like we forget how some
people just like they could see that and be like i what do you i don't get it that doesn't make
any sense and you spent money on that well i don't get that so clearly no one else in america
gets that that's a waste of money uh as far as the big things coming though like one of the things is we do uh i would say get out and
subscribe to our youtube channel yeah like now would be the time to be subscribing to our youtube
so you could say you were there before it was cool you could say you're there before it's before it
was really cool it's cool it's cool but so if you're listening to this if you're an avid listener
of the massonomics podcast,
get on your,
your might probably,
you have your phone in your hand,
just go to it,
go to YouTube,
search massonomics,
make sure you're subscribing.
If you're not already,
I would do that right now.
Do it right now.
Do it right now.
Yep.
Do it,
do it,
do it.
And this isn't reverse psychology.
We really want you to,
Oh,
we don't want you to subscribe.
I know that that also works like uh you
tommy do you know what the easiest way to get someone to think about a pink elephant is
tell them to not think about one that is the easiest way won't say any more than that it's
like it's like in joe dirt when he said i like it when you throw food at me and then they all
threw the hot chili dogs yeah and it's like oh no forgot it was hot chili day yeah uh what else do we have is there anything else we got to touch on
it that's that's probably everything this is a really fun episode i would say right
hour and 45 minutes i think if you're a reasonably long time listener of the podcast i'm guessing
you're gonna love this episode i i think like it's uh just entrenched in great massonomics history it is and if you haven't been listening
super long maybe you learned a little bit about our a little bit about our humble beginnings you
could go back and listen you know it's uh at this point i consider it like just it's just a badge of
honor to say you've listened to every episode after listening to those things though i can't
believe people go back and listen to all those the bright spot about that is most of those
episodes are like 22 minutes long they are pretty short and a lot of the early ones were like 40
ish minutes five years from now our episodes are going to be like four hours long because
our episodes do nothing but get longer i was actually thinking about case trying trying to
add up total hours of all of our episodes like ah there's no just said there's
no easy way to figure that out and i can't right i don't want to actually type in the number for
all 250 so yeah yeah no i don't want to do that either but it would probably i mean it's well
over 250 yeah for sure for sure i think it's safe to say it's well over 300 hours of pretty
that's i mean you could turn the podcast on and it would play for two weeks it's probably it's safe to say it's well over 300 hours of pretty. That's I mean, you could turn the podcast on and it would play for two weeks.
It's probably,
it's probably close to 400.
I,
and I'm basing that on nothing other than me just guesstimating numbers in my
head.
Oh,
I think it's no,
it's facts.
Yeah.
That's a fact.
At least 400 hours of audio.
Yes.
We do have it all documented and a lot of hours of video now too.
That's true.
Should.
Yeah.
A lot of think of the gigs of video that have
been uh recorded yeah it's a lot what would be the unit of measurement that you'd have to even go to
just since i've the largest unit of measure just since i've been doing it it's crazy the way this
thing records that we have right here one of these things like an hour and a half episode takes up
like 180 gigs yeah and then by the time i export it it's
around 10 gigs the 10 gigs gets uploaded to youtube i dump the 140 gigs i can't keep that
there's just no way to keep that much stuff around i keep the 10 gig video but i'm getting
the point where i'm starting to have terabytes of massonomics podcast videos yeah yeah and this is you've only been on this system for not very long right yeah right
yep uh this show episode 260 our five-year anniversary was brought to you by our sponsors

I think the calendar might have said 2019 at the time when we started having sponsors.
We're not saying these sponsors have to be with us forever.
If they don't stay, there's no more feelings.
But we just really like them,
so it's really great when they do want to continue to do it.
It's pretty crazy they've stuck around as long as they have.

at this point Tanner that's true do you remember our game
overrated underrated Tommy
oh do I it's this little game

with the rules it's been a while since you've played
on that end of the seat it's been quite a while
you know I'm kind of nervous
for it tonight you know why Tanner
do you know why I'm nervous of nervous for it tonight. You know why, Tanner?
Do you know why I'm nervous? Why? Because there's a live studio audience!
Woo-hoo!
Okay, okay, everyone.
Yeah, we got a play. Turn it down.
All right.
Thank you.
Thank you. Okay.
Topic number one, Tommy.
This is a special Mastonomics version
of Overrated and Underrated. Special M massonomics version of overrated underrated oh
baby special massonomics version let's do it special for episode 260 our five-year anniversary
250 260 260 oh yeah i just made an instagram post and i said 250 tanners 260 52 times five
what's wrong with me yeah okay topic number one this is a special massonomics version
okay okay overrated or underrated the lift shirt see it's a little confusing because you want to
say it's overrated because everyone loves it so much but also like that can't ever actually be
overrated so i do have to say underrated. Very fair.
Overrated or underrated?
The Massanomic Strongman Showdown.
The premier strongman event from 2016, 2017, and 2018 in western northeast South Dakota.
You know, it's really interesting because sometimes I think that out of all these strongman events held across the country that ours probably had to be as far as attendance goes at a national level.
Top top top 10.
Yeah.
Top 10.
Yeah.
And it was of amateurs at an exhibition level.
Yeah.
I guess we just know how to put on a meet.
Yeah.
Do we just know that?
And we know how to promote.
We're better at promoting.
I think it's safe to say we're better at promoting things than almost anyone in the industry, right?
I mean, I'm not just saying.
We're up there.
I think there again, we're top 10%.
Top 10?
Top 10.
I mean, we're just like, let's be honest,
we're just better at promoting and marketing things
than most people.
Here's how I look at it.
If you take it up to, right now we're right here,
bring it up to the 10,000 foot level.
Yes.
Look down on it from there.
It helps a lot if you frame it from the 10,000 foot level.
A lot of people can promote things,
but it's purely because of who they are,
not because of their specific marketing and promotion skills.
Yep.
We can promote things because of our marketing and promotion skills,
not because of who we are.
Because honestly, no one likes who we are.
And because we know how to look at things from the 10,000 foot level.
We get off the ground.
We don't know how to get up there, get the vantage point.
That's what we can do. So yeah, the Masonic strongman showdown highly underrated okay uh overrated
or underrated a mcdonald's apple pie wow yeah i we both had those tonight and i think we can
safely say they are still underrated yeah without a doubt um overrated or underrated
massonomics gym 1.0 wow taking it way back i also have to say
underrated here because how many gyms are the size of almost the studio we're recording in right now
um have a sewer pipe going right through the roof that every time the toilet flushes you can just
hear the shit going right by you yeah uh it had room for a bench two squat racks right next to each other
so what's what's that width right there is a barbell eight feet seven barbell seven feet and
there could be a couple feet on each side so there's maybe like 16 yeah the room was about
16 ish yeah and it was about 16 by 16 so that was a gym and you could cram in i think there
was nights we had eight people in there right yeah and the dew would like be dripping the mirrors would actually have uh condensation going down though but that just
shows that most people have a distorted view of what it takes to run a gym yeah um you don't need
to a gym doesn't need to be a full-time endeavor uh very true especially when it's starting it can
be a 24-7 access thing um you don't need a babysitter
there for it and you just need a modest investment to get it going so that shows how you can make it
work and not be an idiot do you know how many months approximately the mass time extreme 1.0
existed was it about a year exactly six months oh what's six six months is all yeah crazy isn't that
crazy yeah oh okay because the gym's been around for five years now.
I think that was the first time I ever benched three plates was in 1.0.
Yeah.
The memories.
And the memories.
So what did you say, though?
I said underrated.
It was very underrated.
Okay, I think we had one more bonus one.
Oh, bonus.
Because this is episode 260, our five-year anniversary.
Underrated or overrated?
Our hats.
Wow, okay. You're really putting me in a tough spot here
our hats are pretty overrated people should not buy them stay away don't get the hats really
some people are not taking our warning signs no i know i'm not listening really frustrating do not
do not buy the hats don't buy them don't do it don't buy them stop don't do it not buying the
hats i hope this next five years sees five
years of no hats being sold that's how we could improve on this next five years the hat embargo
goes into effect do not purchase one of our hats and that would be if they're gone we have to
restock them but don't buy them once they're restocked right right yes please please don't
buy them there's nothing good about buying our hats no not a damn not one thing okay now or is that
really yeah i just kind of was hoping we'd hit the two hours well we still could that's only
five more minutes i already read this read the closing ads we could get to i have some topics
but it's not us related and i kind of don't want to like taint this episode with someone else's
um stuff yeah we don't want that then probably i do have a couple podcast reviews we could
we could read here a podcast reviewer too because it makes sense on the five-year podcast right
right i think so kicking it back to the crowd and also you know if you do enjoy the podcast
if you like what you've listened here you know keep downloading of course subscribing our youtube
i think another key thing would be leaving us a five-star review on apple podcasts
just telling some of your friends
that are into a silly goose time,
into lifting,
especially if they're into lifting
and having a silly goose time,
it's insane that they don't listen
to the Maths Dynamics podcast.
Here's their spot.
Yeah.
Tell them about it.
And then last, definitely not least,
come be a supporting member.
We love to have supporting members of the podcast.
MathsDynamics.com slash join. Yeah, you can come be a support. It's a lot supporting members of the podcast massanomics.com join yeah you can come be a lot of a lot of fun being in there it is it's you're uh
of course a member of the massanomics family then you're a friend of the podcast as we like to say
it you can tell people in your social life that you are a friend of the podcast which means a lot
to a lot of people it means it means you're a personal friend of the podcast like a close
personal friend of the podcast and once you say that you don't have to explain it anymore people
people get that and there's different levels you can sign up for you can mix and match levels if
you want to you can go hog wild on those make your own make your own level uh but there's something
for almost any budget you know no matter what type of supporting membership you're getting
looking to get into whether you're rich to get into, there's something for your budget.
Whether you're rich or really rich, there's something there for you.
All varying levels of richness and eliteness.
We're actually in talks with a few luxury car dealerships
to offer them a complimentary year subscription to the...
Supporting membership.
To the supporting membership.
Instead of Sirius Radio.
Yeah, you don't get Sirius or any of that.
This is more valuable than Sirius Radio.
Yeah, you don't get complimentary maintenance, any of that. You don't get serious. This is more valuable than serious radio. You don't get complimentary
maintenance,
any of that.
You get a year.
And there's a lot of,
you know,
just huge perks
that come along
with being a supporting member
that we haven't named here
that we probably won't even name.
We won't name them.
There's too many to get into
and we only have
a couple more minutes
of the show.
We only do have three more minutes
to hit the two hour mark.
But we will read
a couple reviews here. And thank you for the reviews that have come in. We only do have three more minutes to hit the two-hour mark. But we will read a couple reviews here.
And thank you for the reviews that have come in.
We're going to be on that road to 400 before we know it.
Okay.
So this review is from
a weird name, and it's titled
The Road to the Road to 300.
So they were actually leaving this back
before we had hit 300.
And they said,
The Massanomics podcast has been called
many things the chevy
of jd power that's it that's the review okay yeah okay all right yeah okay this next one is from
sparkling underscore a the title is my boyfriend loves this five stars all my boyfriend who you
call big which he is it talks about is the Massonomics podcast and all the news clothes he is buying.
Also something about J.D. Power and Associates Awards,

Ejeculoid coming in clutch here.
He's gotten me addicted to LaCroix
and actually has me lifting in his garage gym.
Apparently, significant others have to leave reviews too
since he already left one.
Hashtag road to 300.
Well, thank you for doing that.
You were a part of us hitting 300. appreciate that yeah important point make sure to steal your significant
other's phone and leave a review on that yeah last one here we'll read today is called the

But yes, this podcast is well worth your time.
Thank you.
Wow.
Couldn't agree more.
Those are very good.
Great.
Tommy, where do they find you?
I don't think I'm ready for that yet.
I don't think I'm ready for that.
I just don't want it to end.
Yeah, because now I know we're on the road to 10 years after this.
But surprise of all surprises, is this our last episode ever? Maybe it is. Hmm. Yeah. Cause now I know we're on the road to 10 years after this, but surprise,
surprise of all surprises. Is this our last episode?
Maybe it is.
If you're still listening.
Now is when we're saying this is it.
Yeah.
Our big plans were,
is that we're not doing this anymore.
Finally,
finally can have some free time suckers.
Yeah.
This is,
I have a family life,
free time hobbies.
It's all going to be on my time now.
Yup.
Or maybe we'll just keep doing this.
Yeah, I'll just keep doing it, I guess.
That's fine, too.
Okay.
I'm just watching these things tick away.
We're getting really close to two hours here, Tanner.
