Massenomics Podcast - Ep.76: Flyin' Ryan DeFea

Episode Date: September 18, 2017

This week, we sat down with the most mustachioed of the DeFea brothers and talked about all the nonsense we could cram into an hour. Tyler runs down a quick recap of the State Fair Strongman Competit...ion, while Ryan and Tommy provide color commentary.   Tanner absconded with our video setup this week, so we're audio-only for this episode. Starting point is 00:00:27 All right, guys. We are back in the Massanomics studio. We're not quite under all the hot lights since this is an audio-only version, which is why we brought on both brothers DeFay with faces for radio. What up? What you're missing is Ryan's tremendous fucking mustache.
Starting point is 00:00:43 You know I had to do it to him. We can get a picture and put that in the show. We have to. We can start the pictures now. Maybe we'll have a good one by the time the podcast is over. We'll piece it all together. Yeah. Jeez.
Starting point is 00:00:57 He's very stoic of you. Do we need to tell him why Tanner isn't here here yeah so tanner is in the middle he's a refugee he's down i think he's in the south shooting shotguns at the hurricane yeah so tanner immediately left the state fair strongman competition with his head hung with a 5 a.m departing flight the next morning to head to florida for a like week and a half long vacation of mass versus hurricane? Well, and then the hurricane decided that's what he was doing. It was kind of a bummer because we had sort of tentatively scheduled
Starting point is 00:01:33 a Bud Jeffries interview. Yeah. That would have been cool. But Tanner goes to Florida once or twice a year, I think, so I think that's something that will still happen. But I don't imagine that Bud is headed to South Dakota for any reasons. No. Unless all of Florida gets wiped off the map.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Which is possible. Or he could go on that book tour. Book tour? Is that out yet? I just hope when this book comes out, there is a tour. Because I would make a stop at one of those. So yeah, Tanner went to Florida. I think he got... There was like two or three good days of vacationing.
Starting point is 00:02:06 I think so, yeah. There was some Snapchat beach stuff happening and some pools. Yeah. And then there is what looked like an endless fucking drive in gridlock traffic. Really great. Time of the car. To Atlanta. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Hot Atlanta. ATL. You know? Hot laugh. ATL. You know? So Tanner also did all of this with a partially torn bicep that he incurred during the second event. From the hurricane.
Starting point is 00:02:31 From arm wrestling the hurricane. Tanner tore his bicep at the Strongman competition, flipping a tire on the second event. So for everyone that's worried, we're not talking so severe to the point of surgery it just sounds like it's uh something he's gonna have to lay low with for a while yeah and it'll make him more susceptible to a full tear in the future but it sounds like that sounds like a threat tyler yeah i'm coming for you yeah what are you gonna do your weak ass biceps tendon
Starting point is 00:03:00 you should tanner you should start deadlifting double underhand. That would be a really good idea. We should actually have a fourth lift on our board, which is the double underhanded deadlift. The dud. I like that. Very dangerous. Because you know whoever has their name next to ever doing that lift is a little reckless.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Doesn't really care about it. That guy's a real fucking fly. What's wrong with that person? But yeah, so I guess we'll just start by giving you a quick little recap of the state strongman comp. Since I'm the only one here who attended it. So why don't you tell us who all went down for this thing? Me, Tanner, Big Jakeake and oh big keith oh yeah yeah i didn't know keith was making an appearance nobody did keith also hadn't trained for this at all so that was a complete like last second thing kind of
Starting point is 00:03:57 i think so but like keith usually does is he won't train for it and he'll like just do pretty well really really really well yeah um keith comes in and takes first in the first event which is a stone throw like a hundred pound rock you just throw it um so what was the what was the technique we went about for throwing this and this is your second you're doing this one right yeah yeah yeah okay but we didn't have that event last year yeah yeah but it was yeah it was basically just like hold it near your chest and two arm press it while you ran forward and we tried a few different none of them were great uh-huh also there was like between the top five places there
Starting point is 00:04:32 was like five inches oh it was it was a tight pattern yeah it's a little tough actually for spectators to tell because you can't tell the difference between like a 10 foot throw and a 10 foot nine inch throw or even an eight foot and a 12 foot throw you're like i i don't know it happened really fast yeah um so but that was keith ended up edging me out by an inch on that one not the first time and then the next event was the tire flip and that that's when Tanner, I think, first flip, he felt a little pop, and it looked like super slow. I was like. Like the flip of the tire looked super slow?
Starting point is 00:05:12 Yeah, yeah. You know, Tanner can move this. Nobody enjoys that tire because it's so heavy, but Tanner can move it way faster than he did. Super easy. So it looked weird, and then the second one, he got it almost just like up to his knee. And he said he, he heard a pop pop and then just put it down and he was done, which sucked.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Cause you know, he drove me there and he couldn't drive a car. So he had to stay the whole time. But, um, I've never done, I've never had any kind of injury like that. I mean,
Starting point is 00:05:42 not that like a bicep tear is like a terrible, terrible, terrible injury. I mean, you've been pretty bicep tear is like a terrible, terrible, terrible injury. Yeah, you've been pretty lucky. Yeah. You've been coming up in the world. I'm so young, though. I'm only 19. He's got that young pliable body.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Ryan's so young, so single. If you're watching on YouTube, he's the one with all the abs. I'm so single that I can't even match with any of the bots on Tinder. I'm not doing something right now so um then uh but yeah big keith ended up winning that event too the tire flip like was it was that close you know i was pretty decisive i don't know if you remember him on the tire you need to get your conditioning on point tyler fuck all that you should join a crossfit gym i hear they can whip you maybe down the road you can open your own as a man who owns a CrossFit gym. I hear they can whip you up. Yeah, I should start doing CrossFit. Maybe down the road you could open your own. As a man who owns a CrossFit gym, I do very little CrossFit. That's the end goal, though.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Because it's made strongman stuff. Would you say you do walk around with your shirt off a lot, though? Yes. Yelling at people? Yes. Okay, that's probably the more important thing. CrossFit's 80% shirtlessness and 20% shortness. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:44 And I make up for the shortness with's 80 shirtlessness and 20 shortness yeah and i make up i make up for the shortness with with lots of shirtlessness so it's hand in hand um but yeah so keith keith won that event because he's fucking like he's a weird he's like rain man at flipping tires yeah we're like i don't know how he did that i don't know how he counted all those toothpicks like i could be wrong but the tire is now at the end of the track i could be wrong on this but i don't know how he did that. I don't know how he counted all those toothpicks so fast. I could be wrong. But the tire is now at the end of the track. I could be wrong on this, but I don't know if Keith has actually ever lost a tire flipping event, ever. I also don't know that Keith has ever trained for a tire flipping event. I don't really think so, no.
Starting point is 00:07:16 I also have either a mustache or a pube in my glass. Definitely a pube. That's probably from me either way. Honestly, it's too short to be my mustache. Well, it's probably one of ryan's poobs i mean what are you gonna do about it though still drink it exactly um we should digress a little bit with the pronunciation of the word pubes have we talked about this before no i've never heard this when you go tubing tubing you don't go tubing tubing you go tubing. Tubing. You don't go tubing. Tubing. You go tubing, right?
Starting point is 00:07:48 And you're riding on a tube? Or is it a tube? It's a tube. Tube. So from now on, they're called poobs. Poop. Yeah. They're called poobs. For sure.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Your logic is flawless. I attended my junior year of high school English class. I had to take that twice. Because you were so good? We'll say I just really needed to get school English class. I had to take that twice. Because you were so good? We'll say I just really needed to get more English classes. So that's why I know that it should be pronounced poobs. I'm an expert. I won't debate you.
Starting point is 00:08:15 So I had one of Ryan's poobs in my drink. But back to Keith. I'm trying to remember what the next event was. Next event was the, how long was the tiger flip event? Two minutes. I mean, distance.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Oh, I think it was 50 foot down and back. So a hundred foot. Yep. Enough to get a few flips in. Yeah. Yeah. I got one of those pointless flips where you hope you can flip it up and it
Starting point is 00:08:43 touches the line and lay it back down. But you can't. So you had to lay it all the way over, which means that flip was pointless. And then that means your next flip was also pointless. And so I did like two for naught. And then that was the end of time. And at that point, you were probably wishing that you tore your bicep also. Yeah, I was going to tear my own bicep.
Starting point is 00:09:03 I think my remark as I stormed off after two minutes of that was, what is this, a fucking endurance man competition? Couldn't we do this for 60 seconds? Yeah. Really go harder. But after that, I believe it was the press medley, which had a couple of cool new implements there. We had the rock press,
Starting point is 00:09:25 just a big old field stone. You press overhead. Then Chuck made a, um, a log dumbbell. So I saw this, this looked kind of cool. It looked pretty fucking cool.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Yeah. I liked that a lot. How much did it weigh? I think like 130 pounds. Okay. And had you done any type of like circus dumbbell? Never attempted a circus dumbbell at all. Uh huh. Played with that a little bit in warmup and got it in warm-up fresh and i was like oh i'm just
Starting point is 00:09:50 gonna leave it at that yeah again from our competition being a week or two a week prior two weeks yeah like my biceps were not in a great place either so i was like every warm-up i did they like didn't feel awesome so we just warmed up less which a good idea or not but i was like, every warm-up I did, they didn't feel awesome. So we just warmed up less, which is a good idea or not. But I was like, I got it. I knew I could get it. And I was like, I'm not touching this thing again. But that was cool. That was fun.
Starting point is 00:10:13 It made me want to get some loadable circus dumbbells to play with. Because that was cool. It was a cool thing. Yeah, they look cool, too. And then there was the barrel, which was heavier this year than it was last year. It was a barrel full of sand. Did you get the barrel last year? I did get the barrel last year.
Starting point is 00:10:32 I think just being large framed makes it a little easier. If you've got a small frame, trying to get underneath a barrel like that. Because you can't press it like you see a lot of strongman presses where you can be on top on one side and on the bottom on the other. You actually have to have both arms under it, which means if the sand is shifted forward, there's no way you can press it. It seems so awkward. It's super awkward. Like you had to do that because it was in the rules or just you had to do that because that was the only way you could physically press?
Starting point is 00:11:00 The rules was you had to have both hands underneath it. Okay. So that made a world of difference. Like that was the difference between me being the only person that got that. And like everybody would have got it if you could have done it the other way. Then it was, I think, a 180 or 200 pound sandbag. And then the big, huge tree, basically. They just cut down a tree and cut handholds in it and and put
Starting point is 00:11:27 handles in it and and it was like a rough lumpy like a real tree like a real fucking tree like put your hands in this tree and lift this thing so is there a bird's nest in it no did you get sap all over your beard no but i do got like bruises and scratches on my chest and belly from it but um no i was prepared because nobody everybody kind of dutted out on the on the barrels so i was like fully prepared to have to like well maybe if i just beat them on time like but i wanted to attempt the log because my eye on that since we started so if i wouldn't have got it i would have asked to just take a quick attempt because it would have sucked to have that thing sitting there and then have nobody get to
Starting point is 00:12:10 attempt it yeah the crowd would have been for next year yeah the crowd would be like well it's the coolest looking thing out there yeah but so that was pretty cool and it was i saw the video it was cool it was cool yeah then the next was, did we deadlift next? I think we did deadlift next. And what was the weight on there? Just for reps, right? 500 pounds on the deadlift for reps. Who won that one?
Starting point is 00:12:36 Big Jake got seven. Our wild card who showed up from Minnesota got six. Really? I remember last year when Jake, because last year was like 405 was the number for reps, and Jake got like 11 or 12 or 13 or something like that, but dropped his last one. Yes, that's right. And it doesn't count any drops, so he got the one he needed. Just like Eddie Hall.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Yep. And so the new guy hit his sixth, then hit his seventh i mean he was dying like he he was his last four reps were like rounded back the whole time perfect form flawless strongman deadlifts but like got the seventh up barely and then dropped it and then chuck's like sorry sorry, dude. Sorry, man. You got to go. So he had six, and then so I went up and I got six, which I had. That's 500, huh? Yeah, which I hadn't deadlifted. Over 500 for more than a single maybe? I haven't deadlifted more than 225 pounds in probably 12 weeks.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Well, see, you just don't need to deadlift. You need to deadlift lighter. I guess I just, well, and I've been doing a lot of like, like sandbag work and kind of nursing injuries and shit, little stuff here and there and just trying to stay generally strong. But apparently, I guess, I mean, I guess it worked because I honestly went to it like most I'd ever deadlifted was 545 a few months ago. And I basically deadlifted about two or three weeks after that.
Starting point is 00:14:04 And then with the gym and stuff, it's just been like training really quick just to get moving is all I've been able to do. So I honestly was like hoping for one. Yeah. And so it went and then none of them felt great, but like, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:18 it was more than I expected to get. So that was cool. And what was your time limit on that? One minute. So did you go like balls out right away or did you kind of like pace yourself with these things? I sort of paced myself. Like I pulled and then put it down and I didn't touch and go. Time under tension was not going to be my friend.
Starting point is 00:14:34 Could you use straps? No, no straps. Yeah, no straps. So otherwise I think it would have been a bit of a different story too. Because at that point your hands just start to. Yeah, my over under is not great when you really have to engage your hands so much you're like you know your shoulders come a little out of position everything gets weird when you're at the end of your grip uh-huh
Starting point is 00:14:54 so i feel really strong with straps because i just feel like my arms are fucking just chains you know yeah it's all one thing it's all all just a machine. No, I felt good. That was a win for me, I guess. That's really good. PR is always fun, too. I tied for second or third or whatever, but it felt good. It was interesting, though, doing that on grass. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:17 I forgot about that part of it. What happens is you end up doing deficit deadlifts. Because the spars will start settling. Chuck lets you kind of roll it out, but everything's kind of uneven. So you've got to find a spot that works for you. Deficit deadlifts. Because the spars just start settling. Chuck lets you kind of roll it out, but everything's kind of uneven. So you've got to find a spot that works for you. Then I think Big Keith got it once or twice, which I think was a win for him too.
Starting point is 00:15:37 He's not a big, big guy and not a big deadlifter. Well, especially if he really doesn't lift a whole lot. I don't think he's been getting much training in at all. I don't think Keith trained for the strongman competition we did in March. Yeah. I forgot he did that one. And then he said that he hadn't trained since then. Yeah. So, well, that's like those Celtic fair games.
Starting point is 00:15:57 We don't really practice for those, and we always do really, really well. My practice was the last time I did this. Are you guys doing them this year that's the next weekend i i was gonna ask you guys i don't i i was gonna do the same thing ask everyone else i will if right now i'm open and i just i didn't want to be the only one there by myself all day because i'll do it i am not because i with my elbow and oh yeah that kind of throwing is gonna be a thing i shouldn't do. Yeah. Tanner's probably out, though. I would assume he's out.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Big Shane's kind of retired from that. And Larry's super on the fence. What about Sergeant Ryan? He might be. I think last year he just couldn't make it. But, yeah, we could probably get him to do it. He did it last year, didn't he? He did.
Starting point is 00:16:37 He did it last year. He did it. For some reason, I was like, oh. I'm pretty sure he did it. Okay. Either he did or he didn't. I also think. It's usually the two options. I also think. think cory could be kind of good at oh yeah is he done i don't know he never has one when we have as far as i can remember i'd like to see how he would do us because i think he could be a good thrower like
Starting point is 00:16:59 he's just really yeah technical and leverage base yeah you could he would grasp the concepts pretty quickly yeah it's just fun i mean it's just so different so but yeah so tanner i'm assuming is out of that so that'll be interesting to see how that goes um trying to think what was after oh the deadlift then we were done with that then it was the stones the field stones to the barrels we had to load um they were like 240 pounds or something like that on up to i think 310 and you guys were going a little distance with those things too weren't you the early ones were pretty far it got closer as you got heavier yep and i got to the like 280 or whatever the one just short of the 310 pound one and i got that one up and i had some time, like maybe 30 or 40 seconds.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Cause I think that was a two minute clock too. And I got to the big one and got it sort of to my lap and was breathing pretty hard and realized that I was pretty far ahead of the other people anyways. And like it started to slip and I put it down and then it fell over and fucking hit me in the shin nice and not in a way that's like an injury or a big thing but you know if you just really annoying if you hit your shin on a coffee table or like the hitch of your truck yeah it's gonna make you really mad watery eyes for like 10 minutes you know and i did that with a 300 pound stone while i was fucking really tired so i was immediately i was like you know what i I did that with a 300 pound stone while I was fucking really tired.
Starting point is 00:18:26 So I was immediately, I was like, you know what? I don't think I need to do this. I just walked away. After that, then there was the, and Big Jake was, Big Jake and Keith got three stones. I got four. And the other guy got one and the wild card guy, I think he got one, tried really, really, really hard on the second, tore his hand up a little bit, and then was throwing up in the garbage.
Starting point is 00:18:52 What? Just, like, puking. At least he made it in the garbage. I think it was, like, fatigue. Oh, jeez. You know, the feeling after a deadlift. Yeah. Oh, yeah, you're done.
Starting point is 00:19:00 With the deadlift. Yeah, like you have the flu. Yeah, then he had to deadlift. And so he was, like, throwing up, and his hand was freaking torn. Tyler Like you have the flu. Yeah, then he has a deadlift. And so he was like throwing up and his hand was freaking torn. Tyler, you probably poisoned him. Yeah, was this sabotage? Not probably.
Starting point is 00:19:11 I definitely poisoned him. And he... But no, he's like... Normally, to be honest with you, the wild cards that come in to that event, normally, I don't think any of them listen to this podcast because they're all normally one and dones.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Normally, they fucking suck. Like the guys that just show up that we don't know who they are. Normally, they're not any good. And they do it and they do a good job of letting the crowd know that we're pretty strong compared to normal people. Because that's a normal person who can't do shit. Right. But this guy, God, I wish I knew his name. I think it was Isaac something or other.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Spelled S-O-M-E-T-H. And he was from, I think, Alexandria, Minnesota. But he was fucking strong. Like, he got second to Keith on the tire flip. And he was not, I mean, he was, I would say he was a little bit taller than Keith. And maybe of similar build. Like not a fucking giant or anything. Was his last name Omen?
Starting point is 00:20:09 No. Oh. Why? Well, because I lived in Alexandria for a while. Oh, okay. I was like, just a shot in the dark here. I was like, is this a fucking joke that I'm missing? No.
Starting point is 00:20:27 No, and this was actually the funny thing is this guy that I knew was – so I went to school with him when I went to college there. And he was the one that got really famous. Well, not really famous, but he got really famous. Oh, that's wild. Let me reel that back a little bit. He's the one that got known for having the deadlift video of him going – everything was like three plates going, and walking away and passing out and nailing his head on the dumbbells. Yeah. I've seen that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:50 It's really famous. Was it on, like, Tosh.no? I think it was. I mean. Like, just like one of those quick things at the beginning. Because that was eight years ago or more. I mean, like, gym videos weren't super common then. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:02 And I know the guys. I think he still lifts a little bit. I don't know for sure. We should get him on the podcast. Just be like, what was that like? A web redemption. Well, I want to know what has come of that. Like, do you still get shit from people?
Starting point is 00:21:17 Oh, I'm sure it was people talking crap for like three years. How much crazy shit was popping into your DMs? Yeah. I do feel like I remember him making comments on facebook about the number of people profiting off of him doing that like tosh.o showing that and like and he's not one of them yeah and he's not making because they're just swiping the video off of youtube like i just got a fucking scar on my foot yeah yeah it's yeah it's one of those things so so that but that guy so the wild card guy he had come in and he got, like I said, tied me in the deadlift.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Was in third right behind Keith and me on the stone throw. So I was like going after those first three events. And he did equally well. I think he got to the barrel just like everyone else and stalled out. So I didn't really know where he was at on time. But I was like, shit, I think he was in third place going into those last two events and i was like fuck we gotta fight this kid like in our in my head i'm like we can't have some new guy come in and make everybody look bad like jesus this is i mean we've kind of held this down for a while yeah other than
Starting point is 00:22:21 when big joe came in last year right but what big joe wants big joe takes absolutely but uh so anyway he was good he was really strong but it was a shame he just he was sick he was spent it was just all over for him after that he struggled on the second stone and then i think it was just puke city and torn hand um but then we went into the farmers carry and um the the competitors that were just there were just not necessarily small guys but smaller framed guys you know jake and with tanner being out and then you know keith and the other guy was all that was left none of them had hands well i mean i mean none of them have hands the size of mine. Yeah. So when we got to the farmer's carry.
Starting point is 00:23:06 And how heavy were they? He did 255 in each hand. Okay. What was it for us? Ours was 215 in each hand, right? No, no, no. No, it was way more. No, no, no, 265.
Starting point is 00:23:19 I was going to say. 265 or 265. Because we were 530 total. Yeah. And here we were 5'30 total. Yeah. And here we were 5'10 total. So anyway, so Jake went, and he didn't get very far, like 30 foot. Which is weird, because Jake did fine in ours. I think he finished the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:23:36 I guess it's the difference of it being second and last. Yeah, and this is no drops. Oh, okay. I got you. This is no drops. So this is you're going to failure, and when your hands give out, you're done. So that's a bit different. Because I think Jake, he did well, but I think he had a couple.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Yeah. He probably had three or four. Three drops. Was it down and back, or did you just go? You could go until you stopped, until you put it down. But you had to turn around. You had to hold on to it to turn. until you put it but you had to turn it you had to hold on to it to turn okay and we got um so jake got like i want to say like 40 some feet other guy withdrew so then it was just me and
Starting point is 00:24:12 then keith so and i was at that point like two points ahead of keith so i just had to basically beat jake and we were good to go but i'm pretty good at the farmer's carrier. So I, I carried it and I went down 50 feet and then turned around and brought it all the way back another 50 feet and then turned it around and brought it back to the middle. And then I kind of paused for a minute and screamed at the crowd, got them riled up. And then I walked to the very end of the other 50 feet and then I slammed the weights down pretty decisively. So you got a little conjuiced. And you got disqualified.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Then I got disqualified for dropping the no dropping. But that was one of those things where it's like, you know, let's put on a show here a little bit. There's only three people here. Do you have a ShamWow or anything? Oh, my God. That dog has rabies. This dog has juice all over the table.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Is that ectoplasm? Fletch's under chin is always wet. Yeah, and bubbly too. And so, yeah, the bubbles are popping as we speak. So he moved his face on the table to look Tommy right in the eye and just slimed the Masonomics table. Well, now it looks like weird. Like Tommy has some explaining to do.
Starting point is 00:25:25 What are you doing over there? I love podcasting. I love podcasting. Anyway, so it was fun. It was a cool event. I kind of like that it has... The thing I like about that event a little bit is that it has a very Fred Flintstone vibe to it.
Starting point is 00:25:42 As far as the Strongman competition, it is like... We're talking as a strongman competition. Yeah. It is like, we're talking, you're picking up fucking rocks, like not smooth. That was like rocks. Yeah. And you're pressing rocks and barrels and trees and trees made of wood,
Starting point is 00:25:57 trees made of wood, not a real tree, as opposed to our trees made of steel, a log made of steel, log made of a log made of wood it's very special and um and i just yeah i mean so that like on its own is a makes it you know that that's a pretty cool that does set it apart from ours it is very different whereas i think ours our implements are pretty polished and you know you know, purposefully. So it's a very kind of cool, like, rough competition.
Starting point is 00:26:29 It also seems to reward athleticism a little higher than strength, at least what I've seen of it in the two years, you know. Static strength is a little less of a factor here as it is in ours or in some of the other ones that I've seen, which always works out in my advantage because my static strength isn't that great. So, yeah, it was cool. We had a lot of fun. We had to drive back. Tanner, poor Tanner, he still drove.
Starting point is 00:26:56 And so he's, like, got his, like, he's got, like, his arm kind of curled up. So, like, when you tear your bicep can you really even move like yeah extend your elbow so because because it was only partially torn okay um it didn't detach so when troy tore his bicep last year picking up the stone there his had fully detached there's a fucking hole in his arm and then it had like coiled up so there's a big void there then everything sucks all the time i think until you get surgery like i don't know what you can get it yeah um tanner and i'm gonna preface all of this by saying i am not a doctor no you're dr effen effenstein or what is it dr stone yeah
Starting point is 00:27:37 whatever but like so i don't actually know these things but this is what i thought they sound good this is my understanding of them um and then for tanner was a partial torus so the bicep the tendon was still attached so he could articulate the arm it just caused a little bit of pain and so for him like he could it would hurt until he got it straight all the way out then he was all right like it never hurt didn't hurt too bad while he was just sitting there but trying to move it did did hurt and i don't know how he's doing with it now i haven't even even checked in with him. He's just been sending us Coach Hot Dog
Starting point is 00:28:07 snaps. By the way, talking to Big Shane this weekend, they removed Coach Hot Dog from Snapchat. See, I feel like he disappears every once in a while. Did you see that other one? I believe it's gone. They kind of have the wacky inflatable guy in there. I believe it's gone, gone
Starting point is 00:28:23 as of Thursday or Friday. See, I feel like this is part of a thing too. Gone but not forgotten. They're trying to create hype. Yeah, you're generating hype. It's the supply and demand. There's no supply, so the demand is over. Well, that is kind of a summer.
Starting point is 00:28:35 I think Big Shane was consuming all of the – Coach Hot Dog bandwidth. Coach Hot Dog demand, freezing it up. It's kind of a summer thing though though. So we're rolling into fall. So maybe they'll have like an apple pie. He'll come out with like some Halloween theme to him or a winter theme. Halloween hot dog. But how I know, I would have had no idea that Coach Hot Dog was or was not on there.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Without Shane. Without Shane. But Shane's like, yeah. Like how you find out about everything through Shane. Yeah. So Shane's like, he's like, yeah, so they got rid of Coach Hot Dog. I was like, how did you know? And he's like, well, I mean, I kind of
Starting point is 00:29:10 knew it was coming because they kept moving him further and further to the right on the list of them. And when he gets to the end, he's like, usually I think that's when their days are numbered. And then he was gone. And so I asked Shane if he could like maybe hit
Starting point is 00:29:25 up somebody at snapchat to just give him let him know that there's some people very concerned about just give him like a coach hot dog app well he can just take a picture or video and put coach hot dog on it this could be due to like intense political pressure i mean people in the vegetarian population might not like a hot dog being out there getting all this publicity. What is that fake hot dog made out of? That's obviously not real. I think that definitely was probably
Starting point is 00:29:54 a bunch of hippy-dippy bullshit came in and they got fucking Coach Hot Dog pulled. Coach Tofu's coming. The meat of this hot dog. Coach Vegan Hot Dog. He's on the vegan hot dog he's back you guys i get all my protein from beans that's not even possible right actually i have uh i'm trying to think if i can say i think i can say this so i know a person who doesn't eat those things and this isn't hot dogs this isn't one of the rational
Starting point is 00:30:25 um people i know who make decisions to not eat meat this is kind of an irrational knee-jerk reaction this person made and then and this person was like was like no i get most of my protein from beans and i'm like then you're not eating enough protein and they're like well and i'm like also like there's a lot of carbohydrates in beans, too. Like, and like, like, let's like, how much beans are you eating? And how does anybody live with you? Yeah. That would be smelly.
Starting point is 00:30:59 The worst. So hashtag bring coach hot dog back. Yeah. We need him. So, you never told us, though, how did the standings go for the strongman? Oh, right, right. Oh, shit, yeah. We kind of left it off on Coach Hot Dog.
Starting point is 00:31:11 So, I got first. Big Keith got second, and Jake got third. Very nice. And then New Guy would have been in fourth. Two do not finishes. Two DNFs. So, there was seven total to begin with? Five.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Five total. Yeah, not near as many as last year. Oh, okay, yeah. Larry did not compete this year. Did he watch? How do you win for world support? So funny story about that. So Larry was going to send some elbow sleeves down with Shane and my sister to go to the fucking deal.
Starting point is 00:31:42 So for Keith. Yeah. So Keith needed some elbow sleeves. He's Keith, he's got some elbow sleeves. He's like, I'll just bring them myself. So Shane was trying to get Larry to come with. And Larry's like,
Starting point is 00:31:55 no, no, I don't know. Just come pick up these sleeves, whatever. And then when they came to pick him up, it was like, all right, well, I mean, I guess I'll get it. I'll just go with. And then so, but to pick him up, it was like, all right, well, I mean, I guess I'll get in the car.
Starting point is 00:32:07 But then you're that close to just like, why don't you just throw your gym bag in, Larry. And so Larry went, and I think for him it was, I think it did kind of like, I think he felt okay about it. He didn't feel too bad about not competing. And then with Tanner getting hurt, it didn't give Larry a lot to be envious of either. He's not like, yeah. Well, that could have been me. He was like, fuck. Yeah, because Larry, I don't know about you guys, but how much did you feel like shit last week?
Starting point is 00:32:34 Did you still feel bad the second week after the competition? I felt fine last week, but the following days after that competition, i did not feel very good at all yeah i didn't i don't think i lifted for like three or four days and i was actually not going to lift for like a week or two but then i was like i'm just getting weaker as the days go by i gotta get back in the gym yeah i know seriously i um yeah i felt like shit for a full week um like really bad and i took like four days off and then I trained not heavy just like to move and some light shit like some sandbag squats and some bicep curls just to just get the back and legs pumping and but this was on Wednesday biceps were still sore and couldn't straighten my arms by
Starting point is 00:33:21 Saturday legs and hamstrings were fucking wrecked still on Saturday at that competition. It was like, I mean, I waited three or four days, did a light session, and it fucked me up for four days. And then in the next week, I did a thing, like on Monday or Tuesday, not much, a little bit of rowing, some more just like light, like 80-pound just sandbag squats just to move,
Starting point is 00:33:43 trying to get my back and legs just some blood pumping. Right. Same deal. Then I felt like shit until the next deal. I was like, son of a bitch, this is not going to be fucking good. Yeah, I was really glad that I was unable to do that competition. I mean, I probably wouldn't have either way, but at least I had an excuse to like, I can't make it, I'm out of town.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Honestly, well, I mean, I had an excuse to like, I can't make it. I'm out of town. Honestly. Well, I mean, obviously you're your own man and you'd have had, you had, you'd have had full right of refusal and stuff, but like we kind of really needed more people. So if you guys would not, if you guys would have, wouldn't have been out of town. Yeah. Tanner and I would have been like, man, come on. Put the pressure on. Like you would have just do it. You would have heard near begging from us just to be like, don't make us go there. Because then, you know, the fun stuff about the trip is like the ride down, eating breakfast at the most subpar breakfast place.
Starting point is 00:34:33 That's still on the list. We get down there and Tanner's like, so where do you want to eat? And I was like, honestly, let's go. Let's go to that off brand country kitchen. I know I can get diarrhea here. We shouldn't go there. I know I can get diarrhea here. We shouldn't go there. I know what diarrhea will be like. We shouldn't go there, but we do it every year.
Starting point is 00:34:51 And one of us seems to win. So we should just go there again. But same deal. We go there and the service is eh and the food is eh. Really? So that's the pace for the day. Yeah. Makes you want to compete but i went there and i ordered
Starting point is 00:35:07 i was like uh i need um six eggs and two servings of hash browns like that's going to be like 30 dollars sir yeah so i've been doing this at restaurants because i'll try to hit still like my food targets you know and like basically if i'm going to align with your money targets no especially with my new job that doesn't pay me any money um financially it's a problem you try to have breakfast at a place and say you order an omelet that you know has three eggs in it so i'm like they're cheap too well that's what's bullshit they charge like a dollar 70 for an additional that's like an 18 pack of eggs i don't know if you guys know this, but beer is also really cheap, and you pay a premium for that at bars, too.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Well, that's for the fun atmosphere. What you're describing at that breakfast place. Nobody ever had 11 eggs and got laid because they were being so fun afterwards. Hey, you see that girl over there? Why don't you send her a couple of sunny-side-up eggs on me? Ryan drinks 11 beers and can just seal the deal with all that charm. Go home by myself. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:08 I don't need beer for that. Four hours of lonely Ryan Snapchat till the wee hours of the morning. That's how I do it. But no, I did it there, and I don't remember what it was. On Mondays, I'll go to this restaurant downtown and eat breakfast between classes, and I'll go and I'll order an omelet and then i'll have to order another like four eggs and then a separate side of hash browns and yeah i mean it's like 30 dollars yeah you could have just got what i should have just gone home eaten fucking because hash
Starting point is 00:36:38 browns cost literally the closest thing to no money at that and then eggs are they're made of the second closest thing to no i think they're eggs are the second closest thing to no money. I think they're made out of potatoes, which are almost free at the grocery store. I would be willing to bet that grocery stores throw away more potatoes than they sell. It just blows my mind because I never would buy the bags of potatoes.
Starting point is 00:36:57 I always would. But you'd buy the bags and they'd be on sale for like $2 for maybe 5 to 10 pounds depending on what you get. People make money like, people make money off of this? Yeah, I don't know. There's like, someone is putting them in the ground. Someone is digging them up. They have to pay people to get these out of the ground and take care of them.
Starting point is 00:37:16 They're fucking cleaning them. They're washing them to a certain extent. They're going in bags. Somebody's weighing them. Quality control. Someone's selling them and driving them. And they're like, you know what? Two bucks for fucking a big old sack of them they're like one day this business will turn
Starting point is 00:37:28 around and we'll make money yeah i i do uh i actually used to do that i used to buy potatoes a lot and use a i would use a cheese grater and then i'd put them in a yeah and then i'd put them in a big plastic bag i wouldn't and then i just have them in a big plastic bag. I wouldn't do that. And then I'd just have them in the fridge. But now they have those little bags of hash browns that are already hash brown. Semi-goldeney. Well, no, no. They're like uncooked, but they're all flavored. Like the frozen ones or like the refrigerated? They're in like a green bag.
Starting point is 00:37:55 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I buy those. But they cost like five times as much. Yeah, it's like $2 for a bag that has maybe four decent-sized servings in it. And it's not worth the money, but you just take it out and make it. It's a convenience. I also would do some awful stuff when I was eating a lot of hash browns. I'd be like, they'd be frozen.
Starting point is 00:38:13 I'd be like, I ain't got time for this. So I would just put them all on a plate. Microwave them all. So they were like hot but soft. And then throw them on the skillet. And it's done in almost no time. Oh, okay. I thought you were going to say you would eat them after you munch them.
Starting point is 00:38:28 But this probably isn't ideal either. Then still only the outside edges are crispy and the rest are exceptional. We used to have kind of a corn dog hack similar to that. Back in the day we'd get back from the bar and the idea of having to cook a corn dog in the
Starting point is 00:38:44 oven just takes way too long. So you just throw a few corn dogs in the microwave for like 40 seconds to get them pretty much soft. Pop those things in the toaster, stick up, throw it in the toaster. They get in the toaster? Oh, yeah. What kind of toaster do you have? Just your regular toaster. Like a special corn dog toaster.
Starting point is 00:39:03 No, it's like a regular toaster. But like bread slides into it? Oh, yeah. It drops right in there, yeah. Because most toasters are made like pretty wide. So when they close, and it's not that hard of a pinching mechanism. It just fits around whatever it needs to. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:14 And you drop them in there. You close it. And in like a couple minutes, you'd have a fairly crispy corn dog. Do you know? Corn dog hacks. Here's a Tyler Fat Kid confession. Up until I started not eating corn dogs all the time, when I would eat corn dogs,
Starting point is 00:39:31 I would eat them in quantities of no less than probably six or seven at a time. That's impressive. Always. And the problem is, though, you can't cook those in a timely manner. Well, if you have a huge deep fat fryer, you could. The version of yourself that wants to eat seven corn dogs is the same version of yourself that doesn't have a whole lot of patience. Oh, it needs instant gratification. That person needs those corn dogs right now or the world's going to fucking end.
Starting point is 00:39:58 Before my two liter of dew runs out. Yes. I fucking never, ever cooked corn dogs dogs anyway other than just in the microwave so soft like super soft almost liquid just like at the state fair the opposite machine cold the opposite of you don't mean like a fried corn dogs all right little yeah yeah and this shit is fucking disgusting and i would eat so many of them wow i was never much of a corn dog guy growing up i just didn't to me it was like a hot dog but it had corn it just seems like they were like the breading pretty much what they are
Starting point is 00:40:36 so you're describing what you are describing is in fact a corn dog i think the breading around them just never really did it for me. I mean, I enjoy one now. I like one like at the fair. Like a foot long. Big, huge, thick, mean. So what about, do you have any fat kid confessions, Ryan? Well, right now, this is the fattest I've ever. Actually, no. About three weeks ago, it is the fattest I've ever... Actually, no.
Starting point is 00:41:05 About three weeks ago was the fattest I've ever... Because I weighed myself before I went to sleep, like, two or three weeks ago, and I weighed 280, and that's the most I've ever weighed. So you have to realize, growing up, our parents called Ryan Stickboy because he was so skinny.
Starting point is 00:41:19 Very skinny. Like, very skinny. I mean, there was a point in high school where you were probably, like, 6'3 and 175-ish. Yeah, I think when I graduated, I was, like, 185. Like, very skinny. I mean, there was a point in high school where you were probably like 6'3 and 175-ish. Yeah, I think when I graduated I was like 185. Like now? Generally speaking, you're just big. You have a lot of muscle on you.
Starting point is 00:41:33 You're not like 30% body fat or anything gross. Is that a challenge? Is it a challenge? Is it my neck? It's all mustache. Yeah. No, I don't know. The fattest I've ever been is like what i am right now so when
Starting point is 00:41:47 i was a kid it was just like you're just living it right now you know like i think experiencing all the fatness yeah it's really great but no not when i was a kid i don't know i would i don't have any any weird so i never and i never really as a kid we were both pretty skinny i never like really i remember what about as a really got fixated on food or anything. What about a fat adult? Like what's the most like drunk food eating you've done? Okay, here we go. I'm into this.
Starting point is 00:42:12 I like that. This was like, God, this was a while ago, six or, no, like seven or eight years ago. Doing some partying and at the end of the night, you know, you're getting pretty creative with food and everything and like depending on your age you may or may not have money or food so we had this deep fat fryer and we had these uncrustables it's like those peanut butter and jelly like pre-made things and they don't have crust on them like we should deep fat fry one of those things so we did and it was game changer yeah i thought it was okay and i hate like jelly like i like peanut butter sandwiches and i don't like jelly but that was actually pretty good but it was so just rich like it was like the the oil just seeped into the bread and it just was like you're
Starting point is 00:43:00 eating an oily peanut butter and all the other stuff gets kind of liquidy, like a little more viscous and moves around into the bread. Oh, yeah. Oh, I like that. Yeah, it was pretty gooey. But, yeah, that's all I can really think of right now. What about you, Tommy? I don't know. Oh, I have another one, actually.
Starting point is 00:43:21 I just went to be. I've always had a healthy relationship with you. When we used to live at your house, one night it was like me, Chris, and Brian. We got back from the bar, and I was just like, what did I have? Like bagels, little pork chops, and then a bunch of ground sausages, like those big tubes. I'm like, guys, I'm going to make some breakfast sandwiches, and you're going to love these.
Starting point is 00:43:41 I think I made them one time like the week before, and it was just a really tiny sausage patty one of those little tiny pork chops and i like hit it with i don't remember what it was to like make it even flatter yeah cooked all those usually remote yeah and just put all those together some cheese oh that was really good yeah that was just a good sandwich that's i'm not even ashamed of that yeah i uh i used to like when i was in high school i'd come home um allegedly drunk or something and i would eat on something i would eat like pretty regularly sent like sandwiches in quantities of also like seven so but but here's the deal. You go home today and make seven sandwiches. Or just eat 14 pieces of bread.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Yeah, do that too. Well, that would be even less interesting. But the process of making seven sandwiches. That's dedication. Like restaurants very rarely make sandwiches. You should have worked at Subway. So I'm sitting here. And so you end up getting this system.
Starting point is 00:44:43 And it's just like bread, bread, bread, bread, bread bread the bread next to it then has to obviously be lined up right yeah you ever make a sandwich the production line to the bottom is off it messes up the whole ratio definitely and then you lay all the stuff and then you do the mayo and then you put whatever other cheese and stuff you're going to put on and then you put it on a plate and it's huge but seven sandwiches whether they're good or not it's gonna get boring same thing seven times so then you grab a big old tub of salsa and a big old tub of ranch dressing so we have a variety of dipping sauces oh yeah you go downstairs and the lights are off so you want to wake your parents up yeah and you don't want to see what you're doing and you watch tv and you just have a bowl full of salsa and a bowl full of ranch dressing
Starting point is 00:45:26 and you're just dipping that part sounds disgusting and that sounds sad I would be willing to bet that I did that over a hundred times in my life
Starting point is 00:45:36 no joke like probably a hundred times in my life I've eaten that exact meal that's impressive that's a lot of sandwiches so now if I'll be like make a couple sandwiches and i'll be like make a
Starting point is 00:45:45 couple sandwiches and i'll be like you know i got some salsa wait a minute i've done this before bitch don't you dare do it i have a jug of salsa and ranch that need to be used up fletch is back he noticed already dried off the table oh god here we go dumbass but uh yeah i don't know i i've probably done more like fat eating things than anybody else that i know like it's i think especially last year before or like last spring when you were really hitting the food hard trying to gain as much weight as possible i think any one of those meals probably would have like killed the average person you know not not not even for each meal it was the the cumulative effect of them all yeah was a
Starting point is 00:46:25 lot but even that probably wasn't like that was still that was more disciplined than like disordered eating behavior you know what i mean that was like like a buddhist monk a higher calling rice and meat in my face all day long but yeah that was a lot of doing um but i don't know that that was hard not like like that was kind of i didn't enjoy that like i enjoyed it wasn't like the seven sandwiches it wasn't yeah i didn't walk into any of those meals like cracking my knuckles like let's fucking let's go someone's going down i'd come home tuned up and I'm going to eat seven corn dogs, I'm like fucking excited about that. Eating a massive pile of like rice and chicken and vegetables is not that awesome. That's one thing I get burned out on real quick is rice.
Starting point is 00:47:14 So how do you do – well, first, you know what? This just reminded me. Tanner says this one, and I don't know if you guys do this, but I tried it. And I hope I did it wrong because it was the most disgusting thing. What are you talking about? Tanner always talks about how he mixes protein powder with his oatmeal oh and never tried i tried that one day and it was terrible like terrible i and i don't know if there's some more water was it milk see i added more water maybe maybe he uh maybe he takes milk puts it puts the protein powder in it, blends it up, and then.
Starting point is 00:47:47 And that might be it. Like the consistency was off. He means like ground beef. Hot dogs. I was always going to ask him that, and I forgot. But I tried that one time, and I had something off because I had to throw it away. I couldn't eat it. Wow.
Starting point is 00:48:02 I don't know. I couldn't. Yeah. I'll just. Something was off. Something was very off. I'll even get. Like I'll get like my sweet tooth.
Starting point is 00:48:10 Which I don't have much of. Out of me. By making like a protein shake. Yeah. That's what I do. I put ice cream in it. I don't put ice cream in it. But I'll blend ice.
Starting point is 00:48:17 With whole milk. So it's cold. And has a bit of texture to it. And then that way. And then whole milk. And protein. And then like. You know.
Starting point is 00:48:24 Anything else I put in it. Like peanut butter. Or whatever. You know. And a banana. Like it ends up tasting. extra to it and then that way and then whole milk and protein and then like you know anything else i put in it like peanut butter or whatever you know and a banana like it ends up tasting okay and cold and sweet and yeah i i like that a lot but yeah i've never tried it with my oatmeal no i don't eat oatmeal very often i actually only ate oatmeal when i was like i would only eat oatmeal mixing it with protein shakes just when I needed carbs. Because I couldn't eat oatmeal on its own. So I'd just make a protein shake, liquefy a bunch of oatmeal with it, and just chug it. And that worked.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Because there's no way, you'll never catch me sitting down eating something as boring as a bowl of oatmeal. Porridge? Have you guys ever had gr grits no i always see videos of ronnie coleman not like always that's like i watch this every day but i have just chipping away on his grits yeah it's like oh what is that one of the things i was looking at was like strongman diets and one of the things they said was you want to eat about, I want to say it was two to three times your body weight in carbohydrates,
Starting point is 00:49:32 in grams of carbohydrates every day. So for me, that's actually about where I was. I was at about 600 grams of carbs a day, which sucks. It's a lot of... Six to seven. It's a lot of which sucks. It's a lot of... Six to seven. It's a lot of grits. It's a lot of stuff going down the old hole.
Starting point is 00:49:48 Well, that's like... The old meat hole. That's like 14 or 15 cups of rice a day. Yeah. But like, so for you guys, what would that be to you? When you say 14 or 15 cups of rice, do you mean like before you... Oh, cooked. Okay, so not...
Starting point is 00:50:01 Okay. Yeah, yeah. That's still a lot. Still a lot. Still a lot. Totally a lot. That's still like 14 to 15 more cups a day of rice than, so not. Okay. Yeah, yeah. That's still a lot. Still a lot. Still a lot. Totally a lot. That's still like 14 to 15 more cups a day of rice than I eat normally. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:09 That's a lot. What is, so what do you weigh, Tommy? I'm floating right now like 220. So even just roundabouts, you'd have to eat 440. That's about 8 to 10 cups of rice a day. Yeah. That's doable. Yep.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Definitely 8 to 10 more than I usually eat in a week. Yeah. And Ryan, you'd be at about 600 near. Yeah, I'm like 272 today. A light athletic 272. I don't know. I didn't put on a lot of fat when I did that. You keep your protein intake right.
Starting point is 00:50:41 And I would advise, if you keep your carbs clean everybody to just try something like that for like two months maybe you don't have to do the whole thing because like you may not be able to jump to so like corn dogs is that clean carbs well no what about the ice cream if it's like certified gmo free is that pretty clean no no i don't think that's a good idea either but like i would advise anyone if you're trying to just get bigger and stronger, like I've never felt stronger than I did near the end of that diet. Never, ever, ever. Didn't feel awesome walking up and down stairs and stuff.
Starting point is 00:51:13 I mean, but realistically places should have escalated more elevators. And we live in a pretty flat part of the country, so stairs are the least of the worst. Our tallest building is six stories in town. Huge. We have two of those, and the second tallest is three. I don't think there is a four or five. That's pretty awesome.
Starting point is 00:51:38 Anyway, yeah, I don't know. You should try it sometime. See how you feel for like a month. Just eat a fuck ton of carbs. To be made out of rice? It doesn't have to be rice, but just like take the amount of carbs you eat and just like double it and try it for a while.
Starting point is 00:51:54 Yeah, I was eating the most carbs I ever ate. And I have no idea how many it was, but it was last spring or like last winter going into spring. And I literally felt like I was getting stronger every week in the gym. Yeah it was i i every time i went to the bar i felt like i was stronger than i was before and my energy to train so now i'm eating probably an insultingly low amount of carbs just it's all accidental now nothing i'm doing nutritionally now is purposeful um and like and i have it's a weird combination of our competitions and shit like that and schedule and sleep. But I have like no energy to train at all anymore.
Starting point is 00:52:29 Like none. Just fucking taken out of me. Or the patience for it. Or the patience for it. Just don't fucking care. Or the ability. Canceling this podcast. The patience or ability.
Starting point is 00:52:40 Yeah, just give up. But, and I'm interested to see if I make one change is just to dig in on ramping up my carbs and to see what that'll... Would you also ramp up salsa and ranch consumption during this time? I should. I should. But I kind of advocate everybody, like, once you, as long as you're not in, like, a disordered eating pattern. You know, like, someone who needs to lose weight, I'm like, let's not do a bunch of experimentation. Let's just start chipping away at your bad habits.
Starting point is 00:53:09 But guys like you guys who don't have a bunch of problem areas in your nutrition. But I mean, you're doing the things you want to do. You know what I mean? Yeah. It's not like you've been trying to get leaner for the last year. Maybe I have, and I just haven't told anybody. Well, you haven't. You have not been eating.
Starting point is 00:53:28 I eat a box of Pop-Tarts every day. I can't figure out why. I put peanut butter on the Pop-Tarts for the extra protein. But once people are past that point, people are just kind of doing things intentionally, nutritionally. I like the idea of just experimenting with stuff like take something away you didn't get that out of your system in college no no touch my stuff all the time but like like like i want to try and do for like a month where i eat like
Starting point is 00:53:56 way more fish than i do other sources and i hate fish like i don't like fish yeah i just don't want i don't mind it's just but but i want But I want to do a version that's similar, which is going to be more miserable, similar to my bulking diet, but with fish. Because I was told from a couple people that have done it before that you could swim underwater longer. Your gills will develop behind your ears. I saw it on Waterworld. Honestly, I didn't hear any of those things. That's all they were going to tell me. But it's much less filling.
Starting point is 00:54:24 Well, cans of tuna are pretty cheap so you could start that is the thing i've noticed with fish is when you eat fish so much of it like yeah eight ounces of fish it didn't taste so disgusting it didn't taste like fish well eight ounces of fish to eight ounces of red meat is not even like the same amount of no and i would eat but i could eat eight ounces of red meat in each hand with no problem. I could eat eight ounces of fish and be like, I need a sauce to put on this because this is fucking gross. I do enjoy fish, but our issue more, I feel like, is a geographical issue. Right.
Starting point is 00:54:55 Like, oh, go to the store. Let me get a bag of frozen salmon. So your options are very, very expensive salmon, which salmon's good, but it shouldn't be the price that we have to pay for it. Or you get the shitty frozen stuff. I still have never had frozen fish that turns out that good. For us to get fish that's semi-fresh, what happens is
Starting point is 00:55:15 the fish has to be caught alive and then given a home, a temporary home, and a job, and allowed to raise its family while it migrates and writes and then they let it vote for a couple elections so it gets that out of its system it feels like a member of society and then it has to die of natural causes and then we get to eat it nine weeks later um it's the fucking worst so like yeah it's tough for us to get twelve dollars a pound it's big yeah it
Starting point is 00:55:42 is twelve to fifteen dollars a pound. It sucks. But yeah, I hate fish, but that's one thing I want to try is I just want to try eating a whole bunch. See if that makes a difference on how over full I feel. I wonder if, do you enjoy walleye or perch at all? I hate walleye and perch. I wonder if you put a call out on Facebook for like, hey people, I want your fish. I wouldn't say hate. I wonder if you put a call out on Facebook for like, hey, people, I want your fish.
Starting point is 00:56:05 I wouldn't say, hey, I want your fish. Here's my gripe with like fished, like locally fished. Locally sourced. Is that there's always fucking one bone. Yeah, there is. There's one fucking straggler. And once that gets you, you will never, ever, ever enjoy a single bite of it ever again. If you get one thing and you're like, ah, shit, and you've got to pull this bone out of your teeth, then you're never going to take
Starting point is 00:56:30 another bite and enjoy it. You're like, you're taking these little baby bites and you're like, is this going to happen? It's miserable. And it just sucks. And I don't eat like that. I eat like... Yeah, you just want to go all in. So if I got a bone and I fucking try to just wolf the fish down my throat, I'll die.
Starting point is 00:56:45 It'll be stuck in your colon. With all the other bones. So if I got a bone and I fucking tried to just wolf the fish down my throat, I'll die. It'll be stuck in your colon. With all the other bones. And then a fish bone. There's a lot of bones down there. It'll be stuck in your colon. The old bone yard, your colon. Stuck on the way out of my anus. Just excessively bleeding.
Starting point is 00:56:59 But yeah, that was unfortunate. But yeah, so I don't know. Try some shit, Ryan. Try eating a fucking disgusting amount of carbs. No. I want you to just add one large pizza to your, don't replace anything else with it. Just add one entire large pizza to your diet. I will do that.
Starting point is 00:57:19 Don't remove anything else though. Just add that to your diet. See what that does. Okay. For like a year or 10 or i think i think and then just quit lifting also yeah no don't quit lifting i think that would be a bad move but just uh that would be a really fast way to get diabetes i think just think so a pizza every day i can think of faster ways yeah okay and a two liter of D. Two liter of D.
Starting point is 00:57:49 I don't want to get too far into this because we're almost out of time, but did you guys see that? The movie It Is Out? CrossFit HQ posted that fucking picture of some nurse, guy nurse. Some guy had died, and the guy looked like he was about 115 years old. And the guy looked like he was about 115 years old. And some dude nurse picked up a can of Coca-Cola that was next to the old guy on his bed. Posted a picture. I would be like, this man had a Coke with all this sugar. And I am all about.
Starting point is 00:58:16 CrossFit HQ actually put that on their page. Yeah. And I'm okay with CrossFit doing a little bit of public advocacy against what the sugar, what the pop companies have done with science. Because they kind of fucked up a lot of research by funding specific things to basically demonize fat and make people think sugar is totally fine. But this is fucking retarded. Because this fucking person was old as shit. So like, man, if drinking Coke makes you be that old before you die, I should definitely be drinking more Coke.
Starting point is 00:58:49 Like it's not even a good, anyway. Yeah. That, that pissed me off a little bit. I think they went a little bit out of bounds. I'm actually surprised they would go that far. This is crazy.
Starting point is 00:58:59 Well, plus objectively, like, you know, that person's not 45 years old. Yeah. I'll show you really quick because I can pull it up in a hurry. It's just one of those things where it's like if someone was actually old and they had Coke next to their bed,
Starting point is 00:59:14 it's like, well, obviously the Coke probably didn't play a role in them really dying because they're old. And then if they're young and died, it's like, would you really be that much of an asshole to be like, this person died at 30 from drinking Coke and to call out on your facebook page this was it and now i don't want to comment on a guy who's old but that dude is old like coke did not kill that guy being 175 years old probably killed that guy yeah wow so maybe he just wanted can i see that one yeah maybe he just wanted... Can I see that one? Yeah, maybe he just wanted a Coke. Let the man have his Coke. You know? Plus, he grew up when...
Starting point is 00:59:52 He probably smoked cigarettes for 50 years. Oh, yeah. Well, back then... He grew up when you, like... They were good for you back then. Yeah, so he probably smoked from the time he was 12 to... Maybe he was in his late 60s when people were like, it's not good for you.
Starting point is 01:00:07 Crazy, right, Tommy? I've actually, like, to me, if you told me this was a joke, I would totally believe it. You would think it was a joke, right? It's like this man died with a Coca-Cola next to his bed. Yeah, he had a lot of other things next to his bed, too. His wife took this picture to advocate for him. It's like, yeah, I'm sure out of all the things he did in his life, they were like, yep, this is good.
Starting point is 01:00:27 I mean, unless he had some crippling, crushing diabetes due to a coke addiction. But even then, there you are. You still made it that long. Yeah. It's your future, Ryan. Coca-Cola kills. That's a hashtag, Coca-Cola kills. Is that really what it says?
Starting point is 01:00:44 Yep. Wow. Get fit, die hard, type two diabetes. So his CrossFit outlawed all of their, uh, all pre-workouts and everything that have sugar in them too. Oh, they don't, I don't know. They've picked it. They picked their battles. Who knows? Who fucking knows? They'd make their own rules basically. But, well, we better let you guys get going here. Ryan's got to go see... What movie are you going to tonight, Ryan? I'm going to It.
Starting point is 01:01:13 Are you really? Stephen King's It. Well, that's who wrote it. It's an audio book listening in there. Yeah, it takes... The book is like a thousand pages, so they said the audio book only takes 30 hours to listen to. so we're just gonna sit in the theater and listen to them talk yeah it should be done by tomorrow enjoying your coca-cola and smoking cigarettes the whole time
