Starting point is 00:05:09 I like somebody has used a little submarine thing and they've messed with people. Haven't they done the same thing with Bigfoot? Isn't that the people do that with Bigfoot too? Just don't mess with you. Don't mess with Bigfoot. Okay, okay. He's real.
Starting point is 00:05:21 I don't know if you can expand that picture, Doug, but it looks crazy, dude. Looks like there's a frickin' thing in the water. Yeah, but also the perspective. I'm not really getting the enormity of the size from this picture, either. You got it, dude, you got it. It could just be a fish.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Did you ever follow, Justin, did you ever follow those expeditions? What if you don't want to go, because I know you did it. There's no way you did. Did you? Starting point is 00:05:47 I know the answer, but I was. I know the answer. Your fall is expeditions that went to the lock and they'd get those boats and go under and like, surf. Oh, bro, I went deep. Yeah, that bigfoot and Nassier are like, peanut butter and jelly for me.
Starting point is 00:06:04 I was like, I was all about it. I mean, I told you guys, my brother and I were so crazy about Bigfoot for a while that we actually slept in the forest thinking that we might, like if we stay there long enough, we might catch Bigfoot. And then we did a whole tour of all these different Bigfoot sighting locations in Northern California and all, there's museums around it.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Obviously it's like, these people just profiteering off of like, like, schmucks like me and my brother. But, you know, it was fun, dude. Like, who doesn't want Bigfoot to exist? Totally, totally. And now, hold on, that doesn't seem scary, right? He doesn't seem like. Bigfoot seem grown.
Starting point is 00:06:42 Hearing the Henderson, no. Great, great. There's one story that I just want to believe. He's like, one story that I read that made me change my mind, because I thought he wasn't scary. And then there's a story of these campers, or I don't know, and it was like five of them that told a story of Bigfoot.
Starting point is 00:06:55 First of all, you can smell them, right? He's got a strong smell. Yes. And they do this yell. And then he was throwing boulders at them and chasing them. Do you ever hear about that story? Yeah, so the characteristics, So this is like a comp, this is what they try to classify as a commonality
Starting point is 00:07:07 as a bigfoot, right? So you hear like knocking noises. Yes. You get like things get thrown like mysteriously. You'll hear like whooping noises, like like real loud kind of like gutter roll. Yeah. Always have to make the example, huh?
Starting point is 00:07:21 Like, woo woo woo. Yeah. Yeah. Something like that. Oh my god, it's so angry. It was like. Woo-hoo! Woo-hoo! Yeah. Yeah. Something like that. Oh my god, it's so angry. It was like, you know, it was just throwing you off. Like you're in a tent and you're like, oh shit, what was that?
Starting point is 00:07:32 Okay, since you guys followed this stuff or read about it when you were younger, when you watched Harry the hitter, and I loved it as a kid, did they do a good job of trying to portray what Bigfoot was supposed to be like? I know they made him smell. I remember that was like all right. Yeah, he stunk. No, they made him goofy and funny or whatever Like the stories say that big cartoonish, but that's big foot is elusive Could be aggressive stories of him being aggressive, but mainly just very elusive like he doesn't like he doesn't want Obviously, he's never been found Like he doesn't like he doesn't obviously
Starting point is 00:08:06 Keep that all right so at I know you're you're a big scaredy cat was scary movie. Yeah, I was scared of Harry and the interstitial part when he when they hit him Oh, yeah, and as a kid I'd be like this Yeah, and he gets a I still watch movies like that as an adult, you know, I just pretend like I'm doing Yeah, yeah, I was like a scary part of my hey, you know, we go pretend like I'm doing something. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's like a scary part of me. Hey, you know, when we go, hey, hey, real important. I got real important email coming through right now. I'm not watching. We got to come up with a bet or something.
Starting point is 00:08:31 And then the, what we got to do is if you lose this bet, I don't know what the bet is, but I'm going to come up with something. Okay. If you lose Justin and I get to pick, when we go up to trucky, a scary fucking movie. Okay, Justin, I want to pick one that's going to make, that's really going to make it. Now I've got a few bets. And then you have to walk. Hey, I'm a gamer So I'm all about stuff like this
Starting point is 00:08:47 But it's gotta be equally fair that there's gotta be something that I get to do to you guys Or I have to put you guys to because that's torture for me right so I have already openly admit I can you come up with something? I'll think of something if we get it if we do something and we find something that's Competitive and I guess do yoga. I don't know. No, it's gonna be way better than that because an hour and a half are two hours, right? Cause that's a movie. Two hours of torturing me like that is just not. I just will film it. Yeah, like one yoga session is not like tortured,
Starting point is 00:09:13 you guys, you should be doing it. Well, when you were a kid, what's, what's a, was there any legend or anything, anything along that category that you did? What did you subscribe to? You had to think like, were you a big dream? There's some things that might, you know,
Starting point is 00:09:24 like Chubacabra. He's probably like a demons and spirit person of it because you grew up with such a religious. Well, okay, so again, to put up, you know, Chubacabra just because you're Mexican. Yeah, what? That's not a clarify. Oh, by the way, my sister,
Starting point is 00:09:38 he's, I'm scared of the chocolate. My sister, my sister, you know, it's so big, you brought up the other day, I gotta, I gotta read them because like like totally forgot all this was I scared of the pizza monster My you ever you ever hear of linguine Kills it out your kids Because with this pincher claws
Starting point is 00:10:00 But is there anything you believed in when you're well, Well, I mean, you know, my history with my parents being very religious. Yeah. So definitely, I mean, I had the mom that was like, you know, speaking in tongues and like, so I saw stuff like that, right? So, and like, they believed in spiritual warfare and that they...
Starting point is 00:10:18 You're gonna tell a story? But I saw you actually do this. It's one of my favorite Adam stories of all time. Oh, God. I love you for it. I don't know what I do. stories of all time. Oh, God, I love you. I love you for it. I don't know what I do. We were in Austin and Adam took way too much, was it AlfaBring?
Starting point is 00:10:33 Way too many supplements. We had all these supplements accessible to us. And Adam's a guy like, he'll just take whatever I take him. But then Adam, I don't know. Three times the recommended dose. I don't know, he's taking other stuff on top of it.
Starting point is 00:10:43 So he took a toxic amount of these supplements. In all't know, he's taking other stuff on top of it. So he took a toxic amount of supplements. In all night long, he's throwing up. But the next all vomiting. Yeah, the next day, he's like, there was some spiritual wars that dude might have had almost heard spin. So there were demons literally trying to fight for me. And I'm like, you got sick, bro.
Starting point is 00:10:58 I still, okay, so there you go. I still, I still subscribe to that there was some spiritual shit going on, right? And there's more of the shit going on, right? And there's more of the backstory there, right? So this was also our first introduction to like the onic crew and all that stuff with that. And they're very much so into this like open relationship.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Everyone's banging everyone. And there's been reference like they're pulling to me. There was some references. There was some references from Mike Partners that you know, Aubrey has a very like cult like Personality and it felt like that when we went in there. So there's already this kind of like you know Obviously direct hackles were up. Yeah Yeah, and if you if I if I come from the other side of like believing in God and Jesus and like that
Starting point is 00:11:39 So that side of the fence like that's like the direct opposite right this cult leader Everyone's banging each other doing I'll Oscar drugs and stuff like that helped a ram horn helmet on yeah yeah so all that's happened the imagine if we do it when he was going through it we just popped in the room to fuck and then sal gives me these these alpha brain pills on top of what I was oh heavily caffeinated and I don't know what other supplement I took. And so I didn't just get an upset stomach. I actually projectile-vomited harder and crazier than I ever have in my life. Like it came out of me like demons came out of me.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Like it, and it was like, I didn't even eat that much and drink that much fluids for the day. That was why it was so weird. And I remember being like, whoa, that was just, and we were staying in their house, the on-it house, right? So I was just like, you know, something about that. So when this is happening, do you have like, whoa, that was just, and we were staying in their house, the on-it house, right? So I was just like, you know, something about that. So, yeah, so many factors. When this is happening, do you have like a picture,
Starting point is 00:12:29 like my grandma, when stuff happens, she'll have like candles of saints and she'll burn them or say, are you doing that, or are you like, no, that's Katrina's side of the, Katrina's that way, like anytime that. Do some Hail Mary's, no, she does the sage, right? So she burns the sage, anytime that I've been around a lot of people, she says I pick up their energy. Like that's what they believe, right? So if I'm around a lot
Starting point is 00:12:50 of different people and I come in and they believe that you negative energy is transferable. So if I'm around somebody who's dealing with a lot of drama in their life, especially if I was communicating with them or close to them for an extended period of time of the day, I bring that home and she believes that she can sense it and feel it like the moment I walk in. So like I always, like she'll, and we've obviously just like wiping all off.
Starting point is 00:13:14 I got well originally, like I would, her and I would go back and forth, what the fuck are you doing? But now I mean, I'm a lover for it, right? So and I just kind of chuckle about it as soon as I walk in and if she feels that she senses that, she don't even ask me, I just all sun see it lit and she's over the top of my head. Yeah, you do.
Starting point is 00:13:30 And that one she's like, yeah, Adam, you're really attractive right now. Have you been around Sal? Exactly. No, no, so. Yeah, so, okay, so that was probably my, but I actually, I didn't believe it, right? So that was actually my pushback, like my family, when we were kids, I didn't believe it, right? So that was actually my pushback. Like my family, when we were kids, I think we went to seven or eight different denominations,
Starting point is 00:13:53 like everything from like Pentecostal, first Baptist, Methodist, non-denominational. Did you ever go to the ones where they passed around snakes? I had a friend that went to... No way! I swear to God, he went to, I swear, he went to one where they passed around. I've seen that I've never met friend that went to, no way. I swear to God, he went to, I swear, he went to one where they passed around. I've seen that, I've never met somebody that went.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Yeah, and apparently the snakes are poisonous, but they don't bite you because you, I don't remember what it was. Now I haven't seen that, but I have been to some where like when the worship part, like so normally when you get to church, that's kind of like the early, the first half is or the first 20 minutes or what if that is like worship,
Starting point is 00:14:23 right, so someone playing the music and everything. And when they, when you do that, like people get so much into it, people are waving their hands, speaking in tongues, and people are flicking their high heels off and dancing down the halls and stuff like that. And the pastor would do like slaying the spear. What's that?
Starting point is 00:14:40 What's that guy, Billy, something or the- Oh, where he touches down my phone? Yeah, yeah, yeah, so they they throw like this big Oh, this purple thing over the top like a purple blanket over top of them and then hit them and they fall over and stuff like that And then look at their going into convulsion. You know what ever and dude. I'm like, uh, dude That's like a James Brown move. Yeah, I'm like in Sixth grade. I want to say around that so I'm like taking all this in Wow, but I I rejected it like so you know
Starting point is 00:15:04 I had to go, as my parents are taking us there, but my sister and I who are one year apart, we both were like, like not. But this is, you know. You're like, can we just sing the song? Yeah, what's all that? You know what it reminds me of?
Starting point is 00:15:16 You ever watch, there's this, I think a page on Instagram called, I think it's called McDoddjo, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, yeah. You ever seen these martial arts experts? And they fake karate. Yeah, they're always obese by the way. And they'll do that where they'll just move their shoulder
Starting point is 00:15:28 or they'll do this with their hand and knock people out. You know what's the more? They're like the same people, dude. Yeah. It's ridiculous. David Caridine, right? No, no.
Starting point is 00:15:37 He was a white kung fu. Yeah, that was like one of my favorite shows. So no, there was this one guy. So I used to read, when I was a kid, here's something I don't know if you guys knew. I was super nerdy about martial arts, I used to subscribe to Black Belt Magazine and all these others, right?
Starting point is 00:15:49 And there was this guy that practiced this martial art called Dim Mock, D-I-M-M-A-K. Maybe you can look it up, Doug. And there's this one dude, and it's pressure point fighting. And apparently he would like, hit like two points on you and he'd knock you out. And it was like this big thing, and everybody talked you out. And it was like this big thing and everybody talked about it and was like this miss.
Starting point is 00:16:07 Anyway, there was this like investigative journalist that went to the sky and he said go ahead and knock me out with a thing and of course he couldn't and then he came up with some excuses like, oh your tongue was in the wrong position. I'm out of breath. And it blocked the G. You actually believe so.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Yeah, it's not working on you. Yeah, it reminds me of that, you know, because the followers of the sky would clearly get knocked out He would do this thing to them and they would test them. They're like, oh no, they're actually unconscious Well, that's what you would see at the church that that will part obviously was interesting, right? Yeah, you would see people go up there But I mean it just shows you to the power of like if you want something bad enough Totally like because you're your body into it. You want it so bad to happen
Starting point is 00:16:43 So you see acting on both parts You know both parties the one that's like telling you you body into it, you want it so bad to happen. So, you see acting on both parts, you know, both parties, the one that's like telling you you got this demon and you about, and then like, yeah, I do have this demon in me and then you try and act the part. Yeah, I've seen that. But this is the guy that did dimmock, Doug.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Does it say his name? I don't see it here. Yeah, maybe you look up dimmack of founder. Yeah. He was just weird, dude, but then he got kind of found out because, you know, MMA changed a lot with martial arts.
Starting point is 00:17:07 A lot of that mysticism and the, this is too dangerous to practice or whatever. Martial arts, like, wiped that out. I'm, excuse me, MMA wiped that out because then you saw people actually fight. See? The fight is... It's his Steve Aoki. No, I don't think that's right. No, that's not.
Starting point is 00:17:22 Oh, his dim records. That's the name of his record company. Dim Mack, he named it. Dim Mack records. It's the name of the Steve Aulke's company, I guess. That's pretty smart. But that's not... Now, look up who found a Dim Mack martial art or pressure point fighting.
Starting point is 00:17:36 Maybe I'm spelling it wrong, but anyway. Anyway, it's interesting stuff. I do think that, you know, if anything is true, I do think that spiritual warfare would be true. I mean, everything's such a duality in life, there's always two sides, so that would make me feel good. So yeah, I've come full circle in that journey in my life, right? So as a kid, so you guys were asking if I subscribed to it, I was the opposite.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Actually, I totally rejected it. And to a point when I became an adult, like I didn't want anything to do with church at all, and I was kind of anti-all that stuff, I've kind of come full circle now on that. Now, I don't subscribe to how some of these, how radical some of these people are. Like, you know what pushed me away from it was, you know when I was a kid, my mom would always say like that, you know, God told her this, you know, God told her to do this, God
Starting point is 00:18:18 told her to do that. And like it was a lot of really bad decisions. I was like, you all knowing powerful God can't be this dumb. You know what I'm saying? Like, did you tell you to get a job? I understand. So I had a really hard time with that for a long time. And then I realized like, okay, I can't totally deny everything just because of somebody else's one person's interpretation of it. Maybe I'll explore and see if
Starting point is 00:18:41 there's something there for me. And so, kind of like you, in a sense, although I never was like this staunch atheist over it, but I think I had a different opinion about it for a long time, and then over time, I've seen the, what you would say all the time, the spiritual wisdom that comes from that. And that's what kind of brought me back to being more open to it.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Yeah, I have a similar experience because I did see a lot of different variations of that, and I went to school and like, you know, so there was lots of applicable, like, sound, you know, moral type of, you know, application I could apply to my own life, you know, just just being through that. But also I saw how, like, different a lot of people were using it and, you know, you'd saw, I actually saw a lot of mental illness, like in those settings of like how I'm just like wondering,
Starting point is 00:19:30 you know, it looks, it's very much like multiple personality disorders. I saw that like happening. And so it's like, it's this weird thing where it's celebrated. And then they turn it into like, you know, it's this sort of spiritual battle that this person is in, and they're not recognizing the mental illness part of it. And so it's just, it's interesting to me to see how,
Starting point is 00:19:51 you know, how it's like such a spectrum, you know, within the religious setting. I really think because of all that, that's what makes me where I'm so the aunt, I'm the other guy who like, you got to really prove to me to me to get bought in. Otherwise, I'm always skeptical. I'm always gonna assume, ah, that's some bullshit.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Like until you prove, until it's been proven to me enough time. Like you were when I talked about carbon dating. Yeah, I mean, that just is like, you know, unless someone is like really, unless I have read something or somebody has made an intelligent enough argument to really convince me on something, I'll always weigh on the skeptical. I don't believe it's side until it's firm for me. Well, the truth is, if something has a lot of power and influence, it's going to get,
Starting point is 00:20:32 there's going to be people who are going to distort it, and there's going to be people who have to use it. I don't care what it is, by the way. It could be anything. Anything with power and influence, you're going to get people who are nefarious, who are going to use it for their own. So why are we now seeing mythical beasts pop up after the UFO I'm telling you do
Starting point is 00:20:48 Locknast monster big foot snacks, dude. I don't know. I feel like Hollywood's set in the table just for this And bomb it all snowman. I think movie in 2000 It is the end of the year you know say that's what it is. I read somewhere that I was coming. I read somewhere like things that are way more expensive. I read somewhere condom prices are up.
Starting point is 00:27:24 No, the purchasing of that, I actually read that. That's like, up condom purchases are up like 36, 6, 6, 6. Oh, purchases. Yeah, luggage is up like 400%. So what's, people are spending is what's happening. That's what's going on right now. The Airbnb stuff is going up. Everything's opening up.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Yeah, everybody's like starting to spend more towards that. Yeah, well, remember when we taught, well, we haven't aired this episode yet, but we're getting ready to an error. The Peter Linneman lineman, uh, economists episode, right? And he, he talked about the amount of money that people have saved up. So there's, there's a lot of money. And they're ready to spend it. And so it's, you want to try and predict where they're going to spend it to see. Yes. Price is going on. Yeah. I mean, what do you guys say? If you speculate on like smart investments or smart things, I think
Starting point is 00:28:02 travel travel for sure. I think travel is gonna explode. I think people have been so- Even hotels, which is I think crazy if you would have asked me that, you know, a year or two years ago because we thought that industry was dead because of Airbnb and in VR. Well, no, I think if you own Airbnb, you're probably gonna,
Starting point is 00:28:19 well, that's still gonna crash, but I'm saying there's gonna be overflow because of demand is still here. Yeah, I know, I agree with that. I think I can think about it. Everybody felt so cooped up. They were isolated. Now they feel safe to, and the first thing you want to do
Starting point is 00:28:31 is get the hell out of dodge and travel. So I would imagine that that's probably gonna explode. Yeah, talk about business. Totally. I was reading an article about Harley Davidson had like one of their, you know, worst years this past year in COVID and stuff, which I thought was interesting,
Starting point is 00:28:46 because I thought a lot of people would be buying bikes. Because it's a go road trip or something. Yeah, so, and they didn't, they had a dip. And so, but what they attributed it to is that they're not in like the touring bike market, and that's exploding, like the BMWs and the Honda's, like this generation kind of growing up, kind of, you know, Harley's are kind of like, like, awkward.
Starting point is 00:29:05 Like dad? Yeah, yeah, older generation. And it's not like the younger guys into the, you know, the touring bike. Plus immediately you have to like, join the bikeer game. Yeah, like if you have a Harley, like, there was a getting it pumped.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Yeah, you're low, right? So, so they're getting into that. So they actually are really getting ready to release their, they're, yeah, they're getting into that market. But the part that was really interesting about this article is reading further on to it. And it actually talked about something they did because they're talking about different things that Harley's done to explore different streams of revenue and try and like find other ways to increase revenue. In 1994, did you know that they actually tried to move into the, the Cologne and perfume market? Harley?
Starting point is 00:29:45 Harley did. What? Yeah, with a, with a, with a smell called Hot Rod. Yeah. That's what it was. Hey, babe, I want to smell like a biker. Yeah. Hot.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Fail miserably. Wow. As you can imagine, like rubbing out. Yeah. Now, have you, either one of you ever had a motorcycle license or nothing? I have, yeah. No.
Starting point is 00:30:03 I have a, I have a funny store, story, kind of funny story about how that was. So when I was 22, I was about to buy a bike. Now you were gonna do the racing ones, right? Yeah, I was actually looking at, I was exploring both ideas, right? Like I really like Harleys, but I also thought street bikes were really cool at this time. So I wasn't dead set on what kind of bike yet.
Starting point is 00:30:24 But I was going to buy a bike. Like I'd saved up money. I thought it was a good idea for here in the Bay Area commute and some of that great gas and like, and there's a bunch of trainers. I thought I'd probably get a chopper at one point. So yeah, I'm like, gonna make a purchase than the next six months to a year.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Well, before I do, I start inquiring from all my friends that have bikes, you know, just their experience and how much they'd love them. Oh, this is so crazy. I had a sim, I bet you're gonna do the same thing. And so there's a question I start asking. And because I know a couple of them well and they had shared their stories where they had crashed their bikes, where they had gone 17, the bike flies out from underneath them. And so I start asking them about, have you crashed your bike?
Starting point is 00:31:04 And what I start hearing back from everybody is like every one of every single one of those. You will. Say it said to me, you will crash it. Yes. And you hit my car. Well, they didn't all say that, but they all said, yeah, they told me it's inevitable. And you're going to lay it down.
Starting point is 00:31:19 You will either lay it down or get hit by a car, you'll crash your bike. It's just part of owning a bike. And I heard that from enough people, not everybody. Same here. And that, to me, I was like, I just don't feel crazy. I don't feel comfortable signing up for the fact I'm going to crash. Like, it just, it didn't sit well on me. And it was just anticipating it.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Yeah, it was enough for me to not pursue it. And I still think about it all the time because I do, I think Harleys are really cool I would love to have one yeah, but that sits in the back of my mind all the time these guys all tell me the same experience I but my my roommate in college he had one of those like crazy fast ninja bikes and You know he's in the air force everything. He's like, you know totally doing doing the whole, you know, Tom Cruise Top Gun, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, like with his aviators on it. He, like, so this person like backs out of their driveway, this truck, and it totally doesn't see him,
Starting point is 00:32:13 right in front of him, he had to throw his bike underneath the truck, and he like, totally messed up his face, and like his whole body got like, road rash and raw, he came back, and he never touched a bike again. Did you know you guys know that my sister Cassie had a street bike? Like a super yeah super fast bike her and Tom and I know they both she got he was already into it he got her into it and Tom yeah he's crazy. Well he right and so one of the like it was early on
Starting point is 00:32:42 when they first were getting together that it was one of the and one of the first times I met him I met him in one of those Full cast were you know their arms are stuck like this and it has the bar that connects it and he's all braced up That's how I'm one of the first times I met Tom. He was in one of those because he crashed it so bad Almost died and then my sister said we have to sell him and so he hasn't't ridden that since then. My great- my great- grandfather, that's how he died. On a motorcycle. Really? Yeah, he was riding his bike and, you know,
Starting point is 00:33:10 in Sicily in those days, you don't own cars or too expensive. You have one motorcycle for the whole family. In fact, I have pictures of my grandfather with his entire family on one motorcycle. It's all like- Oh man, yeah, that's crazy. No, no, seriously, him, his wife, she's holding the baby, kids hanging outside off the back.
Starting point is 00:33:32 That's crazy. That's all they could afford. And so if they had to go anywhere that required, that's crazy. An automobile that would take the motorcycle or whatever, yeah, my great grandfather, he died that way. He got hit by a big truck and died early. Well, I told you guys, my grandpa was like this real meek.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Like, he was actually an interior designer. Like, back in the 50s, which is like a totally different thing that is now, but like, he was really like quiet, artistic, and we found old pictures just lying around. And I found a picture of him on this like Indian motorcycle with with with a pistol and everything like he was in a biker gang legit I had no idea never told any of us wow I was like who are you wow that's really cool yeah it was awesome yeah my dot my dad still writes motorcycles he has the cruiser so he has the he's you
Starting point is 00:34:22 know he's got the BMW cruiser but then he also has a doc, so he's got the BMW cruiser, but then he also has a Ducati. And he's still to this day, it's his favorite thing to do. And he rides my dad's very scary with his motorcycle, because he's been riding since he was a kid. And speaking of my dad, you want to hear something funny? Well, okay. I got to tell you a Ducati and a spiritual story since you just freaking said that.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Oh, go, go. So this is a trip, too, okay? And this is true story, and to this day, it. Go. So this is a trip to okay, and this is this is true story and it's to the state still happens so Katrina's dad Troy who passed away what for four years ago now five years Wow, maybe it's been a little long when we first started the podcast. He passed you remember I think it's been like five years Yeah, it's been around that right so he was big in the motorcycles He had a few of them and his his baby the one he loved was his Ducati and After he passed and this and it's still in Tina,
Starting point is 00:35:07 won't get his wife, right? Katrina's mom won't get rid of this bike, right? And it has a picture of him and her that sits on it. She keeps it in the garage and it's like, it's one of the things that she won't get rid of of his. It's like that was his baby and stuff. And this is part of the reason why, is because it will, it cries every once in a while.

Starting point is 00:35:55 because it's happened enough times that it's just so wild. Everybody in the family goes like, did somebody start it, does somebody plug it in? No, no, no, no. Just randomly out of the blue sometimes. And it even weirder, it normally does happen around a holiday or like something like, oh, that was an anniversary
Starting point is 00:36:10 of Tina and his, like, trippy as well. That's weird. I told Jessica that if I died before her, I'm gonna haunt her. She's like, I'm like, babe, don't worry. If I die, I'm not going away. I'm gonna totally haunt the shatty. No, I'm gonna say about my dad, you wanna talk about like, you know, relations
Starting point is 00:36:26 and genetics or whatever. So my dad's a lairist. He's kinda like me with supplements. Okay, he's a little bit like me. He'll take something and then it's like the be all and dollar or whatever. So I actually, I'm glad it's not a mistake, I'm glad I did this, but I gave him a full bottle of Ned
Starting point is 00:36:42 to my dad, because my dad's got lots of things. The regular 1500, what did you give him? The regular, look this one. The hemp oil. Yeah, the strong hemp oil, so Ned says us the strong one, the 1500 milligram one, right? So I give that to my dad, and my dad's got arthritis up and down his spine, from working since he was a child,
Starting point is 00:37:00 hard late, whatever can barely turn his neck or whatever. So I give it to him, my mom immediately, she's like, is this good for him? Like, you know your dad, he gets obsessed with like, are you sure? Like whatever. I said, yes, it's fine. Is he gonna trip out? Oh, no, no psycho act.
Starting point is 00:37:12 No, he's been taking it for, you know, he'll take it for a few days and then, you know, he gives me a call and he goes, so I'm like, yeah, what's up, huh? And he goes, I like it. I'm like, what do you mean he like it? He goes, I feel really good. I feel like maybe I go back to judo.
Starting point is 00:37:23 I don't know, man, my mom's like, I fucking told you. I told you, you're wrong. Like I told you, what are you doing dude? Don't know, you know what I'm saying? I'm gonna go back and start trading again. My dad's 60 something and is like, he's stiffer than a board because of the arthritis
Starting point is 00:37:35 and he's already telling me, I feel good. Maybe, I feel, I don't know. I feel like I could turn and throw people. What do you think? I don't know, dad, maybe you should. Now is your weight a little bit? Is he like you or he's like anti-muscle relaxers and like pills like that?
Starting point is 00:37:48 Is he a void that or does he use things like that at all? No, he doesn't like medications. He does not, in fact, he doesn't react well to medications. The reason why I was asking you, because that's what I have found with when I introduce somebody to that product, it normally is someone who's like that, who is like, they've been kind of anti-pills, they don't want to deal with that, and you show them that. Is there something that, who is like, they've been kind of anti-pills, they don't want to deal with that,
Starting point is 00:38:05 and you show them that. Is there something, like if somebody is like, let's say you're like a heavy, like, Norco user and you've used that, is there something that's going on with the receptors that would impede somebody being able to really feel the benefits of that? Well, no, so, and just, you know, I want to be cautious,
Starting point is 00:38:20 okay, because I don't want to give medical advice here, okay? But they do find that when, in the studies that I've read, okay, that when people use cannabinoids, so like, you know, hempoil obviously is full of CBD and other cannabinoids, that when people use them, they reduce their intake of traditional painkillers. In some cases, in some of the studies, people stop using their traditional painkillers. Now, why is this a good thing? Because it doesn't have the same side effects, it's not negative to your body in the same way. It's not as addictive, for sure, that's a big one.
Starting point is 00:38:52 So, but again, it worked for my dad, it worked really, really well, because what he has is kind of the systemic inflammation and he feels much looser. Now, the side effect of this, that's bad, is now my dad thinks he's gonna go, do judo. judo, which you will probably hurt him.
Starting point is 00:39:06 So please don't do that. But I mean, but yeah, it's got that effect. Again, I gave him the strong bottle, 1,500 m, one that he's taking that he really likes. So, but it's hilarious to hear him do this, because he'll start to feel good and then we'll go over. And then I know what happens is he'll, we'll start talking and then it'll start like this
Starting point is 00:39:24 somehow, he'll be like, you know and then it'll start like this somehow. He'll be like, you know, I start to feel really good, you know, I start to feel really good and Jessica looks at me. She knows what he's about to do and then he'll come up with some like, Hey, you think you could lift this? And I'll, here we go. Here comes the competitions. Although he still kicks my ass a lot of stuff so I can't, I can't talk shit.
Starting point is 00:39:39 I kind of that, that old school, this is so he's in strength or whatever. Speaking of with training, how's the training, let's get a little training update. Everybody's super focused right now. I saw you working out yesterday, real hardcore. Yeah, I know. Are you trying to do it when we're not working out? I do, that's what I did.
Starting point is 00:39:53 Yeah, I did, yeah. That's the stupidest thing I'm at too. I know everything, I mean, I'm all under cover. Yeah, subdominal. Under cover Adam. I joke about that, but it's really not those reasons. It's lately, there's been a lot of stuff
Starting point is 00:40:05 that I've either got calls or emails I gotta respond to in the morning. Morning time. And so I still get here when you guys do, but you've been seeing me kind of sitting on my phone a lot of times when I'm here and then you see me maybe do a few exercises here, then I'm training at home a lot right now.
Starting point is 00:40:19 I'm also, I've cut back on the volume because of the golfer's elbow was bothering me so much so I've had to kind of reduce it reduce you look like you're building muscle though I wonder if you were doing too much volume period. I probably was that's I mean always that's our our thing Right, we always overreaching that funny. Yeah, no, it's definitely the what if you get them on better too Yeah, no, and I'm better I get better every year about you know seeing it and and realizing it quicker and backing off. And I've just been really good about my diet. So a lot of times you'll see me like I feel like
Starting point is 00:40:52 I make myself work out even if I think I shouldn't maybe work out because I know that my diet wasn't ideal and I'm like my thought process on those times are like, okay, I ate a lot of extra calories yesterday and not my diets and I dialed in. I need to be doing some training. I need to burn some extra calories. Hopefully some of these calories get partitioned in a ability muscle. And so that's the logic of training when I know I probably shouldn't be training. But when I'm really dialed in, I won't train. So a lot of times I've been taking days off just because I know that I probably should use
Starting point is 00:41:23 the rest and I don't need much or doing very little volume. Well, no, you guys are both doing really well. I love seeing it. Everybody's crushing. I know Justin, you were trying to flex your abs to add up. Which is so strange to me. I don't know why you asked me. I don't know what prompted me to do that.
Starting point is 00:41:38 I think it was the mind pump meme guy, like chatted it up, he's just doing cheese and Star Wars posters instead of showing my abs like you guys. I honestly, I'm like waiting because this is work in progress. I've been pretty dialed in and consistent with my nutrition, so I'm like, I'm in the sort of transitionary phase right now where I'm like, I don't really know what's on the other side of it because I haven't gone much further than this before, so I'm like, I don't really know what's on the other side of it, because I haven't gone much further than this before, so I'm really trying to kind of push myself through that normal, like I will block myself. Here's where I'm going to usually, we'll start introducing alcohol back in or let some
Starting point is 00:42:15 things kind of come and be like, ah, this is stupid. You know, like, I'm over it, I feel good, I feel great, like that's all I really care about. But now I'm like, I want to see if I can actually see something. Now, here's, this is the challenge for someone like you, because I feel great, like that's all I really care about. But now I'm like, I wanna see if I can actually see something. Now here's, this is the challenge for someone like you, because I feel like I'm in between the both of you when it comes to strength, performance, and aesthetics, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:34 The challenge for me is always, when I cut the calories, is I lose strength, and then that's a mind game. You are so strength and performance focused, and you could honestly give a shit about aesthetics for the most part. Are you feeling challenged right now? Yeah, dude. It's Yeah, and I've tried to adjust that by really trying to work more into movements and activity and and and upping that in terms of like how I feel athletic So I backed off a little bit on the intensity of heavy weights and grinding my way through that, which I love that.
Starting point is 00:43:10 I know you're the same way with some of that stuff, but I've been trying to refocus on getting more core work in and trying to add more multi-planar movement and just literally doing walks at every minute of the day, like that I can get up, like go shoot hoops with my kids, like I'm really like finding opportunities to, I'm gonna go climb on this over here, like I'll just think of something that I can do
Starting point is 00:43:37 that'll like activate my whole body. You know, one of the things I'm really enjoying right now about training or that I'm realizing about myself, my body, and stuff of getting older. There is some really cool benefits of getting older if you've trained, you know, pretty much your whole life. Like I see how little I have to do if I keep my diet and check. Oh, you're right. You do way less now than you did before. I mean way, way less. What a great message, by the way, it's like you set yourself up Oh, you're right. You do way less now than you did before. Yeah, I know. I mean, way, way less.
Starting point is 00:44:05 What a great message, by the way. It's like you set yourself up for when you get older. I mean, to me, that is like one of the haze in the barn. It's one of the haze in the barn. One of the coolest parts of getting older and have trained for over two decades now is that I don't have to do, and I have to do a fraction of what I was doing 15 years ago.
Starting point is 00:44:26 That's so true. And I have a better physique than what I did 15 years ago, which is very cool. It's so true and it's such a hallmark advantage of resistance training. I don't think you could do that with other forms of exercise, but because of that muscle memory,
Starting point is 00:44:39 like all the hard work you put in, like I see this with Jessica right now, she's seven months after the baby was born. She can barely squeeze in a workout here or there because the sleep is so bad. And I'm looking at her. I'm like, man, your body is so resilient because of all the work that you did beforehand.
Starting point is 00:44:55 You know, one of the values of supersets is, because oftentimes if you, you'll see in a program, supersets are put during the cutting phase and they say, oh, it's because you burn more calories. That's not the value. You know what the real value of supersets is for me? Is that I know I have to go lighter anyway. Super sets, you can't go heavy anyway.
Starting point is 00:45:13 So if I'm already not as strong because I'm dieting, then I might as well do a superset because with a superset, you can't focus on weight anyway. So it's all up here. It's all mental for me. So you'll see me do that with shorter rest periods because it's like, well, I'm not going to be hitting PRs anyway. It is so funny because I'm just getting back into cardio. Like I feel great.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Like, you know, we talk about ways to manipulate your body composition and everything by lifting weights and kind of staying in that train of thought. But like I was, I posted that stupid video of me just doing park court mess around and all that stuff. I could see how stiff I am in my movements and just doing one little jump and then landing on a hard surface, just totally jolted my lower back.
Starting point is 00:45:57 I was like, this is embarrassing. So I gotta work on that. I get work on the overall functionality of my body, athleticism, so I'm just leaning more into that. Like I get work on like the overall functionality of my body, athleticism. So I'm just kind of leaning more into that. Now is there something that you like a staple exercise or routine or move that you do when you when that kind of clicks for you? Like I remember I had the same feeling when I jumped out of the truck, remember I told you I thought my knee was going to explode. Just like,
Starting point is 00:46:21 what the hell? You know, like that's a skill that I never thought I wouldn't have. And I haven thought I wouldn't have, and I've had it since I was a kid. For the first time ever, I felt that. And so instantly I was in the gym, and I had specific movements that I was doing, right? So do you have things that you go to? Honestly, I adjust my squats more to the multi-planar lunges.
Starting point is 00:46:40 That's like my first move because to me, being in a split stance position and focusing on different planes of movement, it just feels like I'm just more athletic. I have more, I could stabilize myself from a lot more different factors versus like, I'm just so, been so rigidly in the sagittal plane, even though I talk on the show the time about
Starting point is 00:47:08 training, corporate, more rotation and all this. I just have to like, really start to lean into that more. Yeah, I started doing, I got doing the sled drives. That's a big one. And then I started doing box jumps. Me too. No joke. I started doing a little bit of box jumps here and there.
Starting point is 00:47:21 And boy, if you don't practice something, you lose that skill. Yep. For the first couple of weeks I was doing there. And boy, if you don't practice something, you lose that skill. For the first couple of weeks I was doing, I was like, this is embarrassing. Somebody saw me right now. This would make it on Instagram, it would be a joke. Some cobwebs there. Yeah, but I can feel myself getting better
Starting point is 00:47:37 each time I'm totally. Is that one of ours that you got in your hand right there? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You mean the mirror? Yeah, yeah. I'm trying to get it. You put the stickers on it though. Yeah, yeah, you know, this is cool. Yeah, right, I'm trying to get it. You put the stickers on it though. Yeah, yeah, you know, this is cool.
Starting point is 00:47:45 Yeah, right? Let me say a little bit cool. Let's get this thing authentic. No, no, no. Speaking of mirror though, I actually, I just asked Chokey to do, bring back the original ones that we did. So we've gone through and done like all,
Starting point is 00:47:59 I think we've now done maybe 12. I mean, what I love, by the way, too, if you've never been to the mirror website and gone through all the different, what do you, what do you, what do you call canteens? Yeah. Whatever, you know, all the different ones. Starting point is 00:48:10 It was a tumbler, you call it something. The ramblers. I mean, they have a lesson though, they have a tumbler, they have tumblers, they have, I mean, they have the mugs, they have the traditional coffee, they have the super size one, they have this, which is the Tesla. I don't know what you call.
Starting point is 00:48:24 What do you call these, Doug? What's the, what's the name of like the big water bottle like this? this, which is the Tesla. I don't know what you call. What do you call these Doug? What's the name of like the big one? I'm gonna like this. No, it's got like a name. Yeah, it has a name. Let me look it up. They also, so I don't have it on this one. Katrina has it on hers.
Starting point is 00:48:33 They make these interchangeable lids where you can flip it open and it has like a straw. Oh, okay. Which is pretty cool. She likes that one. But anyways, I'm bringing back for us. I'm gonna bring back the 16 ounce coffee one with the lid. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:50 Was my favorite and we did. You guys used to use those all the time. All the time, I used it. It's pretty, because I like the coffee mug, which that one's cool, but it's less coffee. So I think it's only like, it's a little small.
Starting point is 00:49:01 Yeah, I think it's only eight to 12 ounces. But it fits in my, in my, you know, cup holder in my truck. So I was like, that's pretty much what I'm doing these days. I'm making all my coffee before. And that's why I told Chokey I want the, because it's 16 ounces and it fits in the couple
Starting point is 00:49:15 and really good. Because the other one that's even bigger doesn't fit in there is good. I want some factor. Yeah, selfishly I want the one that fits in my truck. And it's also, it's taller. So it's more than like the little 10-ounce or 12-ounce or whatever.
Starting point is 00:49:27 They call that a wide mouth vacuum sealed bottle. Damn, so mouthful. Like that, yeah. But I'm trying to drink water more. I found myself doing a lot of the coffee, caffeine, and if I'm not mindful of it, if I'm not carrying this thing around, I'd under drink water.
Starting point is 00:49:45 It's like the whole tracking calorie thing. It's the same thing. You know, it makes me drink a lot of water. The element, I put that in my water and I drink the fuck out of it. It tastes so good. So I just drink a hell of water all the time with it. But if I don't, I forget,
Starting point is 00:49:57 especially when we're podcasting a lot, you know, I'll end up, and I'll get home after work. Oh man, I drink. I feel the difference. I feel like if I teagged or something, you know, like I'm like disoriented almost. Oh man, I didn't feel the difference. Like if it's chained or something. You know, I'm like disoriented almost. I'm not drinking water.
Starting point is 00:50:08 You were actually the first trainer of mine that I actually think I heard you say, this is a long time, it was funny you wrote that up. Then I heard you say that to a client that was talking about being tired and fatigued and like the first piece of advice you said is, you know, how much water you drink, start drinking water and I was like, energy,
Starting point is 00:50:24 why is he going that way? Water first. And I thought that was interesting because. No, it's a big deal. I know. And I know that I'm pretty bad about that. And it was like one of these things that, wow, it's not the first place I go when I think, oh, I'm getting kind of fatigued or sluggish in the day.
Starting point is 00:50:38 I don't think water first. I think, oh, how did I sleep last night or what did I eat? And sometimes it's that easy of a fix that if you are really under consuming water, you will feel side effects like that like fatigue. Especially headaches. People who get, oh, often get headaches. Starting point is 00:51:25 First question is from Sarah Haney. I love following strong female role models like Lori Christine King, who has worked to get her caloric maintenance up to around 2500 calories while maintaining the lean physique. Is this a realistic number that most active females should be able to consume? Or are people like her and anomaly? I pick this question. First of all, shout out to LCK, we love her. Oh, she's amazing.
Starting point is 00:51:51 She's one of the best ones on the show. She's phenomenal. She puts out incredible content. And I picked this because, one, it was liked by a lot of people. So there was a lot of people that had this exact same question. And this was kind of a number that it was a generic number. It's very generic because there's definitely an individual variance for sure.
Starting point is 00:52:12 But that was most clients, I could get most female clients regardless of their size and so that I could get up above to about 2,500 or above. And that would be a good, and what I have found for most of my female clients, this is a good amount of food, right? Now some people might say that 1,800 or 2,000 is plenty of food for them. Well, of course, this is where the variance is, right?
Starting point is 00:52:36 Or some people have crazy appetites and they want 3,000 calories. So here's where the individual variance comes in. But I always thought that 2,500 was a pretty good place for me to get most of my clients because it gave me plenty of room to- Yeah, because then you go down to 2,000 to cut. That's right, that's where typically you'll go.
Starting point is 00:52:52 That's right. It's a hard question to answer because it's so different from person to person. I think it is a decent target, but like here's a deal, 2,500 calories sounds good. It might be too much in the sense that you might be like, I don't want to eat this much food.
Starting point is 00:53:07 Also, it might not make you feel good. It's so different from person to person, but I will say this, if you're healthy, you're sleeping good, you have good hormonal health, and you're doing proper strength or resistance training where you're building muscle, you will burn way more calories than if those things are not there. You will have a metabolism that burns more calories.
Starting point is 00:53:27 And this is what makes or would make Lori look kind of like an anomaly because she's strong and she built and she strength trains. And you know what she builds muscle? And you know she came from a place where her metabolism was wrecked. Right. It was really slow. That's right. So you can do the same thing too. but if you're comparing yourself or you're currently
Starting point is 00:53:47 at, and you don't strength train and build muscle like she's built muscle, then yeah, it's going to be very hard for you to compare your 1,500 to 1,800 calories to her 2,500, and it may take you a while to get there to put on the muscle mass that she has over the last week. That part's important, by the way, is that you got to be patient sometimes. Yeah. I've worked with clients. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:09 Karen T, she didn't get to 2,500 overnight. No, and I've worked with clients where they did so many rounds of extreme restriction and lots and lots of cardio and they really train their metabolism to get really slow. It took us a year to get them to really make an impact with their metabolic rate. So you're going to be patient. Now rate. So you're gonna be patient. Now, why would you wanna be patient? Well, what a good place to be, right? At the end of doing all this, now you're in this position
Starting point is 00:54:31 where you're eating more than you did before in your leaner. And that's much more sustainable, right? I mean, that's the point, really. Is to achieve that. To even have that as a goal is a great mindset to be in. And I think that that's really why we're trying to promote that more that you can achieve that. You can achieve a level where you feel like you're eating quite a substantial amount,
Starting point is 00:54:52 but you're still in a really lean place. Next question is from B Soar, not Sorry. I hear you guys talk about the elimination diet frequently. I've got psoriasis and my gut is easily bothered but I don't know what is bothering it. Where would you suggest starting? What do you recommend to keep in the diet when first starting out? Okay, so a couple of things. If you find that your gut is very, very sensitive, I would suggest first off going to see someone and maybe getting tested for SIBO. SIBO is actually present in a majority of people
Starting point is 00:55:29 who have irritable bowel type issues. So that's number one. Now, why is that important? It can be cured. It can be cured with antibiotics or it can be cured with herbal antimicrobials. So besides that, you wanna take foods at your diet that are common in tolerances.
Starting point is 00:55:43 The most common offenders are dairy, gluten, added sugar. You could throw in egg whites to that. You could throw in nuts. You could throw in legumes in that if you want to go really crazy. But dairy and gluten, I would say, are the two most common ones that you can remove. But here's the thing. There's a big individual variance here. I've worked with clients, I had one lady
Starting point is 00:56:07 who had mild psoriasis, we couldn't figure out what it was. It turned out to be bananas. Well, look what's just happened to me with meat. Yeah, that's true. I mean, I just did like it, and a elimination diet all the way down to just meat. And I've found that if I was not eating grass-fed meat, that I was having my psoriasis was flaring up,
Starting point is 00:56:24 which blew my mind, because I'm like, I'm eating nothing else. And I've never had, and I've never actually felt an issue from meat. I didn't think I did, but now it's starting to make me connect the dots. So one of the biggest flare ups I get with my psoriasis, Beside Sugar, sugar is number one for me. And the next one would be when I'd eat like a five guys burger. Now I thought it was the gluten that was in there and maybe the dairy, but what I actually think it is, it's the combination of the red meat that's
Starting point is 00:56:50 not grass-fed, the dairy, and the gluten. It's like the perfect storm for me because all of them affect me. And something like that hits me harder than anything else that I've ever known. Yeah, that's an interesting, the combos, which I've noticed as well. Certain foods as they are by themselves don't react or give me the same reaction as they do when in combination, which is something too that you kind of tease out. And this is why I find this strategy so valuable though,
Starting point is 00:57:18 is just, and it's tough because really to perform it, effectively you have to be super strict and rigid, you know, in terms of like peeling back all the way down to something, I just don't feel like a lot of people have the discipline really to pulse off. You also have to be very open-minded because what happens a lot of times? It could be your favorite food.
Starting point is 00:57:37 That's right, it's almost always your favorite food. That's, I mean, you just still hear. Yeah, so when you do this, you don't want to believe it's something you really enjoy or eat a lot because that's hard for people. I eat that all the time though. How could it possibly that?
Starting point is 00:57:51 I know. And that's the other thing too. Your body is very resilient and it will adapt. Like if I, so, no, and this is another one that's really tough for me, I'm noticing that way affects me worse more than I thought it would. Now, in the context of it being by itself,
Starting point is 00:58:09 the only thing today, it's not enough. But if I start to do it multiple times a day or frequently in the week, it starts to compound and then it'll start to cause issues, that's really tough for me to break free from that because it's a food that I've been attached to for so long. And so you gotta be open-minded to be okay with the same thing with the meat. I love meat. And so I was like, it's a food that I've been attached to for so long. And so you got to be open-minded to be okay with it. The same thing with the meat, I love meat.
Starting point is 00:58:28 And so I was like, there's no way it's the, and when I thought of the burger, I'm like, it's probably the bread, it's probably the cheese. It can't be the meat, you know what I'm saying? There's no way it's the meat, like, because I don't want to believe it's the meat. So, but then I was on a completely all-meat diet. And I only had those issues when I was eating outside of grass-fed beef. So, you can start, I like like a paleo-esque type of diet. I think it's kind of a good place to start or like, or carnivore if you're willing to
Starting point is 00:58:51 go that strict of a place to start and then you slowly build up. By the way, if you eliminate something, you have to completely eliminate it completely. And you've got to give yourself at least 30 days. And then introduce one thing at a time. So if you cut out dairy and gluten for 30 days and then you introduce gluten, leave just gluten for a week. Don't introduce two things or three things because then you can figure out something.
Starting point is 00:59:13 And don't introduce it in a massive amount either. Yeah, I made that mistake. Yeah, because I'm like, so excited I'm gonna eat this and then it just hammers you. Well, what's really neat is, and speaking to psoriasis, because I have psoriasis too, about that, because it's a visual thing you can see. Like, it's very obvious when I have a psoriasis flare up.
Starting point is 00:59:32 I mean, if I'm really dialed on the diet, especially when I'm eating low calorie, it completely suppresses it, it goes down. The minute I eat in a surplus, and I hit some of these offenders, it flares right up. And if I've been doing a really good job of running like an elimination diet
Starting point is 00:59:47 or avoiding the things that I know that I have an issue with, the minute I take it in, I mean, it's 30 minutes to an hour after eating that food and I'm like itching right away and picking at it. Like so, you'll know, but you gotta be aware, you'll be a lot more sensitive too. Coming back to what I mean. You're more sensitive when you've eliminated it for a while.
Starting point is 01:00:06 And then reintroduce, if you've got all these foods in your diet, it's hard because the body is resilient. It will adapt. It won't flare up as bad, even though you're getting a flare up from it. When you pull it all out, and then you reintroduce it, you'll see it. You'll get a different reaction. Next question is from Marissa Lift Repeat. What is going to be the next big worthwhile shift in fitness?
Starting point is 01:00:29 Oh, good question. You know what, it's funny. Since I've been doing all these interviews for the book, I've been interviewed now by several doctors. In fact, yesterday I was interviewed by the author of Wheatbelly. Are you guys familiar with that book? Wheat Belly, it was like a best seller.
Starting point is 01:00:46 I didn't read it, but I was familiar with it. Right, so, and he has a group where people pay to listen to speakers. So in this group, I don't know how many hundreds of people were in there. And I'm talking about resistance training. He's been communicating this exact message for, and he was a cardiologist.
Starting point is 01:01:03 He's been communicating the exact same message now for the past couple years and him and I got talking and he says you know Sal he goes the research around Strength training a resistance training just didn't exist a couple decades ago I've talked about this before on the show. He said more recently Research is coming out where they're studying resistance training and they're looking at it for longevity purposes. How does it affect brain health, how does it affect heart health, how does it affect visceral body fat and diabetes, and he goes, the research is coming out is crazy. I think the next big thing, this is what I bet on when I wrote that book, is going to be
Starting point is 01:01:37 strength training. Now, not in the fitness space, we've all known this for a long time, but I think the medical community now is starting to come to it and start to push it. I think over the next 10 years, we're gonna see in terms of prescribing it. Yeah, I think over the next 10 years, we're gonna see strength training be a thing that everybody talks about, the average person.
Starting point is 01:01:54 So that's what I would predict is the next. That'd be great. Kind of big thing. Yeah, it's a little more general than the way I was thinking. I was thinking a little more specific. I think that glucose monitors are gonna become way more popular. I think you're monitors are going to become way more popular. I think you're going to see, and I think it's going to help a lot of people that have like diabetes and stuff, and it's going to unlock a lot of things nutritionally for people
Starting point is 01:02:14 that are trying to figure it out. I mean, we were just off air having a conversation with Melissa, and she was from Whole 30, and she was, she's using it right now, and we were talking about how she could eat oatmeal. She's telling me like and she was, she's using it right now and we were talking about how she could eat oatmeal. She's telling me like she could eat a whole big old bowl oatmeal, no spike whatsoever from it, but then she has a little bit of sweet potato and she gets a massive spike from it.
Starting point is 01:02:35 So I think there's such an individual variance in how people react to certain foods and I think for the most part, we are very clueless to that and I think that is going to unlock a lot of potential nutrition. I actually get behind that, I find it so valuable to get more accurate information that pertains to the individual. And I think the more we can hone in on that,
Starting point is 01:02:58 nutritionally will really provide people with a lot of good, valuable things that they can then apply to their planning and their organizing of their shopping list. I would like for that to be a big thing. I think that's extremely valuable. I'm very fascinated. The challenge is going to be, are people going to do anything with this information? That's always going to be the challenge.
Starting point is 01:03:20 That's always with tech. I mean, because I was starting out as they're trying to make it cool. And then later on people were like, what's always with tech. I mean, because I was starting out as they're trying to make it cool. And then later on people were like, okay, what's the value here? I mean, it's the same debate that we made with the whole mere and tonal thing, right? Because I mean, that thing could be extremely valuable, too, but will people use it? And will they use it correctly? And will they be consistent with it? Or will it be just that much harder because it's in their house and it's easier to say,
Starting point is 01:03:42 no, to it, not do it? So, a lot of these tools, so I don't know, I think the glucose monitor because it's something that you literally stick it on you and don't have to think about it and then all you have to do is basically check your app to get the feedback on what you ate. To me, that's going to help a lot of people out and I'm interested to see where that goes. I think too, and I think that this was starting to become a trend before the pandemic and everything else, like where we saw like unique, like little gyms that were popping up that were just recovery based.
Starting point is 01:04:16 And I was getting excited about that, but then, you know, all this head, and so it was like, you know, retail took a massive, you know, lump to the face, but I can still see, you know, some traction there in terms of, like there's just a big community of people that are overtraining, don't realize it yet, you know, once they kind of step into something like that that introduces them to what a full recovery focus would provide them, I think it would be interesting

How have you faced paralysis by analysis in your own lives and how do you recommend people combat it in a world of information overload? I'm trying to think of the last, if this ever really, you know, I don't tend to be a person that gets paralyzed by analysis. I tend to just run.
Starting point is 01:05:03 We tend to be ready to shoot aim. Yeah, we're the opposite. Yeah, we kind of have the opposite problem. We tend to be a person that gets paralyzed by analysis. I'll tell you where, right now, purchasing a home
Starting point is 01:05:16 here in the Bay Area. So I can definitely go back and forth. Part of me's like, should I get one? And the other part of me's like, it's too expensive around here. It's crazy. Yeah, that's fair. You've been saying that for the last two years,
Starting point is 01:05:25 and if you would have bought two years ago, you would have made like 300,000. Exactly. And then there's that, right? And then there's that. Oh my gosh, I would have done, you know, so. Maybe something like that, I could think of, how do I combat it?
Starting point is 01:05:35 I mean, you just gotta fucking make a choice and be okay with the fact that you might have made all the choice. So the answer to how, like, this is not, I don't, I actually think I'm pretty good at this, right? I think all of us are. And one of the things that, when we've talked about this, you and I just had this conversation with my nephew
Starting point is 01:05:50 who I'm mentoring right now is, because he struggles with this, is you have to make peace with the worst outcome. So you have to think of this and all right, it's responsible for you to think about. Like, let's use your house example. Sure. What is the absolute worst thing that could happen?
Starting point is 01:06:06 The more market tanks. Yeah, the housing market tanks. Okay, well in that situation, what would you do? And would it really be that detrimental to you? Would you be able to still live in it or potentially rent it out and just hold on to it for 10 more years? Or would you lose your ass? Or would you be so leveraged that you would be screwed
Starting point is 01:06:22 like in your situation? So think of the worst scenario that could happen with your decision and make peace with it. And if you can't make peace with it, then maybe you shouldn't do it. But that's, I mean, that's how I look at all the decisions that we're about to make. I go like, okay, I want to do this in the business or I want to do this in my life. And I'm like, well, I don't think right, I'm not the type of person who goes, oh, it's going to work out so good. Like nothing in my life ever works out perfect. So I'm so used to things crashing, burning, failing
Starting point is 01:06:50 that I go like, okay, I'm gonna put all this energy over here, I'm gonna make this decision, this could go wrong, this could go wrong, this could happen, it could be this bad. And I think about all of them and then I go like, okay, now what would I do if all those things happen? And if I can see my way out of it, and I would be okay and I could survive it,
Starting point is 01:07:07 or I could make peace with that bad of a situation that I'm doing it. I'm jumping. I think that's good advice because if you're okay with the worst, then you'll just take a step. Like, because what happens if you're not okay with the worst, you take no step. By the way, no choice is a choice.
Starting point is 01:07:23 I think sometimes people are like, I'm too afraid to choose. Not choosing is choosing, right? You're choosing to not choose. That's right. You've done neither of them. And they say, that's the worst choice. Oftentimes, you're better off making a bad choice because a bad choice you can at least learn from that.
Starting point is 01:07:35 And there's a lesson in there where if you don't make a choice, you'll always wonder, what if I did that or didn't do that? I think it's always risk reward. And role-playing that and seeing it all the way through, like you're kind of describing in terms of, like, what's the worst case scenario? What could happen?
Starting point is 01:07:52 And I think that's really how I've been able to deal with most of it. And it's like, if I'm gonna be fine, then I'm gonna be able to work my way out of it, even if it's the worst case scenario, then what am I waiting for? I'm just getting in my own way. But it takes reps.
Starting point is 01:08:07 It's going to take smaller. I just think that if you can, you could find things that maybe don't sound as, you know, frightening for you and step in and just go, then do the next thing, step in and go and just just build off of that. Some people that maybe that would help to a strategy wise. Well, this is why I've always liked in business to come up with ideas, because I've done a lot of things that didn't pan out.
Starting point is 01:08:33 But I've always done things that I'm like, okay, well, here's my main core job that I love to do or that makes most my money, but I have this idea. I've never done anything that is so polar opposite of what I'm doing that if I left that and committed to that, I would be absolutely screwed if it failed. Yeah, I've always started to do things like, okay, I have this business idea
Starting point is 01:08:55 and this business could actually kind of help this business potentially grow. And then if it fails, I'm still in this space and so I'll be okay. So to your risk reward type of attitude. I tend to make decisions that I maybe not have as high of a reward because it's not that high of a risk, but that's because I played this game in my head of like,
Starting point is 01:09:13 okay, it's not gonna work out, it's gonna fail. Yeah, I'm scaffolding here. Yeah. And then you could branch out. Yeah, I definitely apply that same approach for sure.
