Starting point is 00:06:39 Okay, so in since the Cincinnati Zoo a four-year-old Okay, so the Cincinnati Zoo, a four-year-old got into the gorilla enclosure. And so a 400-pound Western lowland silverback, which if you're not familiar with your gorillas, this is a big amount of fun. This thing is strong as shit. You ever seen one of these things shave down? Pure muscle, dude.
Starting point is 00:06:59 It's scary. But anyway, the kid was in there and his four-year-old fell in there and the gorilla was videotaped, like it was holding the child, the kid was screaming and then he was like dragging him through the enclosure, which they edited out out of the video because it's kind of disturbing to see, but then you can find online and you can see this gorilla dragging this child around the enclosure. And so the zoo officials were watching very carefully
Starting point is 00:07:25 trying to figure out what to do. Because on the one hand, you have a child that, you know, maybe on endangered. On the other hand, you have a, you know, very expensive and protected animal that you don't want to have to injure or, you know, kill. And there, you know, we got to keep in mind that these are the professionals.
Starting point is 00:07:40 These are the zoo professionals. They're watching this thing and they deemed the gorilla a threat and they had to shoot it to kill it so sadly, you know, an endangered animal was killed However, here's what pisses me off. I'm seeing now All over social media just like every fucking time some shit like this happens. Yeah where people are like There's like visuals for the gorilla
Starting point is 00:08:03 People are fucked up, damn dumb parents, who didn't watch their kid, let their kid fall in the, and they should have tranquilized, and they don't understand anything about wild animals. I mean, when you shoot a tranquilizer at an animal, it takes like three minutes for it to get tranquilized. In the meantime, that motherfucker just got shot. He's holding a kid.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Yeah. Like, as if the lesson for those parents is that their kid dies. Right? Like, what the fuck kind of logic is that their kid dies. Right? So it's got a four year old, even if it didn't have bad intentions, it could have just, you know, they handle baby gorillas, which are about 85 times stronger than a child, they swing those things around like,
Starting point is 00:10:02 it would have killed the kid easily. The professional saw, you know, the actions of the gorilla deemed it dangerous. So it's sad, but fuck, man Like stop hammering like stop talking shit about people, right? Starting point is 00:15:07 There you go. Oh, all right taking this home. All right moving along all right fit quest mom is asking about the best general nutritional Approach to follow in order to support auto immune conditions interesting. That's a good question Right now there's a lot of science coming out, supporting a ketogenic diet for autoimmune conditions. As a matter of fact, they just published a peer-reviewed study done on mice that showed incredible improvement in multiple sclerosis, which is an autoimmune disease. And I totally speaking, because I do surf a lot of these forums having to do with autoimmune issues.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Number one, because I deal with some very mild ones myself, but number two, because I have family members who have one in particular with Crohn's disease. So this is something that's always an interest to me of interest to me. And anecdotally ketogenic diets seem to work really well for these types of things, and they're not quite sure why. I think maybe it might have to do with the anti-inflammatory effects of some of the ketones, or if because autoimmune disorders may be stemmed
Starting point is 00:16:16 from some kind of metabolic disorder, and so switching the fuel that the body uses to ketones may help. Yeah, as far as like a vegan diet too, maybe like that would have some relevance there as far as the anti-inflammatory effects or. You know, there's, and that's the thing, like we gotta look at.
Starting point is 00:16:31 I think it's more like this. And this is, I hate for us to put ourselves in boxes again. I hate this like a vegan, a ketogenic, or maybe paleo type of way. No, how about this? Like what we do know is like, you know, you probably should stay away from some starchy carbs. You probably should stay away from stuff that's high glycemic. Right.
Starting point is 00:16:51 So you want foods like that hole and that are natural. So higher in fats, for sure, you definitely want to get after your like your fishes and things like that. You know, I think it's more like that. I hate the, I hate things like this where this where somebody wants us to give them a diet. I don't, I hate that. I hate the fact that we've, it's all marketing. Even as big of fans as we are of the ketogenic diet, I'm not a fan of the ketogenic diet.
Starting point is 00:17:18 I'm a fan of eating higher fat supposed to higher carbohydrates. I find that not only does my body run just as efficient as it does on a high carb diet, as it does now that I have a higher fat diet, but I feel healthier. My skin feels better. I notice my things like my psoriasis are suppressed. The inflammation is down.
Starting point is 00:17:34 So I think less of what diet is best for autoimmune, there's certain foods you want to avoid. We just think what closely relates to those like macro breakdowns. Some of these diets do have some of those qualities they present. Well, that's why I brought it up because you both brought up completely different diets but both have great influences on things that like your autoimmune. Well, I think here's the thing too.
Starting point is 00:18:03 You also got to look at food intolerances because food intolerances can be pretty unique to the individual and if I'm, you know, if I'm like, oh, you know, I heard on Mind Pump ketogenic diet, they showed some science that might help on autoimmune disorders, but I have a food intolerance to red meat and chicken
Starting point is 00:18:24 then it's gonna be difficult to do a ketogenic diet without eating those types of things. Or I have an intolerance to, let's say, a popular fat that people in keto will eat, which is coconut. So, that's another thing too, is you wanna identify food intolerances, because they can be anything.
Starting point is 00:18:38 I mean, I've had clients with food intolerances to the healthiest foods, and removing those foods then reduced some of their symptoms because you want to consider an autoimmune literally is your immune system attacking itself or attacking parts of your body, whether it be your gut or whether it's attacking your joints like rheumatoid arthritis or attacking your, like multiple sclerosis. If you're throwing in something that the body has developed a mild allergy to or an intolerance to,
Starting point is 00:19:11 it's just gonna make that immune response, that systemic immune response stronger. So you wanna identify those things, but there's a lot of science now coming out showing that, these auto, this explosion of autoimmune disorders is likely due to the fact that we do not have nearly as diverse of gut microbiomes as we used to, that it's this clean hypothesis
Starting point is 00:19:34 that we've eliminated this diversity. We kill so much bacteria with the things like antibiotics, you know, in our foods, in our water. We take a lot of antibiotics and less diverse pesticides and foods, your artificial sweet, your... Yeah, glyphosets and GMOs. All these things affect bacteria and reducing your diversity has been very, very strongly connected or correlated, I should say, to autoimmune disorders.
Starting point is 00:20:02 And here's what's interesting. You're pretty much your first introduction to bacteria is being born when you're going through the birth canal. And then when you breastfeed and you do all these things with the mom, with your mother. So you inherit quite a bit of your,
Starting point is 00:20:17 what they call your microbiome fingerprint from your mother. Well, if her microbiome is less diverse because of exposure to antibiotics, you know, antibacterial soaps and all these other things, she's going to pass along less diversity to you. You're going to pass on less diversity to your children. And so what they're finding is that through the generations, that diversity is getting worse and worse and worse, which may explain why all of us, like it seems like this ramping up and explosion of autoimmune disorders
Starting point is 00:20:46 where they started really popping up a lot in the late 80s and early 90s. And then it just seems to be getting worse and worse and worse. And part of that may be because they're identifying more of them, but definitely that's not the only reason. So it's an interesting thing. So I would say diversity of food is important.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Avoid foods that are intolerant to staying away from processed foods is probably a good thing. Eating more fats tends to be a good thing, but this can be so different from person to person. It's like you guys are saying so. Yeah. Taylor made 78. Why do some people look bigger but are weaker?

Starting point is 00:21:47 I finally get you back for hitting me in the nuts that one day. Well, that's true. I've been holding that. So I, but you know, for sure it is my world, though, man. I mean, if you're gonna see that anywhere, you're gonna see a body builder who looks, you know, impressive, but is not super strong. And it has, it goes reflexes training, you know,
Starting point is 00:22:10 hyper, if you live in the hypertrophy, you know, where you're, you're chasing the pump, which let me tell you in the bodybuilding world, thank you Arnold, you know, has definitely, got everybody focused on that. Everybody focuses on the pump, the pump, the pump, the pump. So you have supplements that are geared towards getting you a better pump and you have supplements that are supposed
Starting point is 00:22:31 to pump nutrients into the pump. You know, like everything's about the pump for body building. And so they get so caught up in the volumizing of the muscle versus actually building strength in it, which it's a different way of phasing and training. So it's actually more common than you would think when you would see somebody, you know, who's got all these big, bubbly muscles and they're not. I'm actually, I'm more impressed when I see a bodybuilder like a Ronnie Coleman, who I see still deadlift, 800-something pounds. Like those type of guys, I see that and I'm like, oh shit, that's impressive to me. You know, because they are not just training
Starting point is 00:23:07 to look all bubbly and stuff like a fill heath looked. So, it makes the body look different. We've talked, Sal talks about this before and it's a tough topic because it's not like we have a bunch of studies to prove what we're saying, but you can. Yeah, super observational in our part. I don't think there's any studies that'll come out and say,
Starting point is 00:23:26 this kind of training made the muscle look this way, and because there's so many genetic and individual factors, I mean, I'm gonna partially disagree with you. Let me tell you why. Definitely the way you train will influence more size versus strength or more strength. Genetics always play the best. That's the biggest one because you're right. You know, muscle size, first of all, let's look most genetic size. Genetics always play the best part. That's the biggest one because you're right.
Starting point is 00:23:45 You know muscle size, first of all, let's look at muscle size. There's a lot of things that make up the size of your muscles. Your muscle fibers is one of them. There's other non-muscle fiber structures within muscle, circle plasm, for example, that'll make up the size of a muscle. And so muscle can look bigger
Starting point is 00:24:00 and I actually have more real muscle inside of it. But all things being equal, there's muscle attachment advantages. If my bicep attaches a little lower on my forearm than someone else's, I'm going to have better leverage to curl. There's central nervous system genes, like some people just can really apply more max force at any given moment than other people can. Now training influences that quite a bit, but genetically speaking,
Starting point is 00:24:31 that's probably the biggest factor. And sometimes I think people are, what they're good at is where they tend to travel and train in. Power lifters probably were good at powerlifting and so that's the direction they went versus bodybuilding. You know, you sometimes you see people cross over,
Starting point is 00:24:47 either way. Well, don't you think too though, that you know, based off of the way that they're training, like say they're going like half reps or they're on machines all the time, they develop and they build a skill for those specific things. So they're really strong at those things, however,
Starting point is 00:25:03 that doesn't translate at all to barbell squad or deadlift or bench press, you know, whereas maybe it is like impressive the size, but the skill set to produce, you know, what we consider, you know, good for a PR on this particular exercise is completely different. Yeah, I'd say, you got a lot of factors that go into why someone may be stronger than someone else, but maybe smaller. And look at, here's the thing too. When you're looking at things like leverage
Starting point is 00:25:37 and attachments and whatever, look at yourself, look at how all of us, most people tend to have like one exercise they're really good at, right? And others that they're not so good at. So, that a lot of that has to do with leverage. Like, I'm really good at pulling. I can pull off the floor, I can roll a lot. But I'm not as good as I am, you know, what comes to pressing.
Starting point is 00:25:59 I'm not nearly as good. Does that mean I'm not a strong person? No, but I'm pretty sure my leverage when it comes to pulling is better because I always train pressing too. It's not like I avoid it. For God's sakes, you know, chest has been a weakness of mine since I started lifting up. Trust me, I never skip, you know, time and opportunity to press. It's just my leverage seems to be better when it comes to pulling. So there's just a lot of these things. I mean, personally, I think if you have the jeans to just be really strong and that have to be big, that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:26:28 I think that's cool. I love nothing more than seeing the kind of, you know, sinewie cut, kind of musk-looking person that's not that big and then watching them lift and they're just lifting an incredible amount of weight. That's just so, I don't know. It just impresses the shit out of me to see. No, I find that very impressive too.
Starting point is 00:26:46 I think it's always neat to see the guy who is totally, doesn't look like the person that would go over and rip off 500 pounds of the floor and it goes and does like it's nothing with good form and clean, you know. Have you seen that dunk competition after the NBA, the playoffs? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Did you see that one guy who was like five foot six or something? No, I didn't see him. Dude. So he jumped over a Shaquille, he jumped right over Shaquille and Neil and dunked and he won the whole thing. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Yeah. Like the last time was like what, Mugsie Boggs. Yeah, he was, Boggs was though like five, three, four maybe. Yeah, I think it was five. I was short. He was really short. But Sp was though like five, three, five, four, maybe. Yeah, I think it was five. I was short. He was really good. But Spod Webb was the other one, but he couldn't dunk.
Starting point is 00:27:29 One of them couldn't dunk. Wow. So, but anyway, the, it's so impressive, but like so genetically gifted, it's ridiculous. Yeah, I mean, I think it's just, it's impressive. And there's, look, and there's also people who, uh, have fantastic it's just, it's impressive. And there's look, and there's also people who have fantastic muscle-building genes, but they may not have great strength genes.
Starting point is 00:27:50 That doesn't mean they're not gonna get stronger, you know, a bigger muscle stronger than a weaker muscle. But I've known guys like this too, who lift weights and they just build muscle and they don't really lift, you know, that much more, you know, they're getting stronger, but it's not like, it doesn't match the amount of muscle that there was one guy I worked with years ago. And I mean, this guy was natural, 19 inch arms. I mean, he just just built ridiculous muscle.
Starting point is 00:28:13 We go workout and I would wipe the floor with him in pretty much any exercise I decided to, but he just, and of course, would talk shit to make myself feel better. But he had those muscle. A lot of times too, it's the guy who's all, he's all hormoneed up too. So if he's on tons of anabolic and he's, you know, got an extra, he's holding a ton of extra water weight in his body. So he looks more impressive and bigger than what he really is. And then he trains like I said, chasing the pump the whole time.
Starting point is 00:28:38 Like it's probably what Taylor is talking about right now is, you know, he's probably seeing other dudes because he's a big guy. He's a big guy. Yeah, he's comparing himself. Yeah, he's somebody else in the gym and it's like, you know what? Yeah, because he's not a small guy. He's a big guy. The other thing too is you got to keep in mind, you don't know what that person's training for.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Because I could be in the gym, training for mobility or training for form, trying to get better range of motion. Maybe it's a trigger session, maybe it's a focus session. Who knows? Maybe I'm just trying particularly training. No, it's such a great, it's someone might look at me and be like, wow, wow, I'm so much strong on them. But you don't know that I'm not trying to lift heavy. So you might not know that.
Starting point is 00:29:20 I bet you, I wonder how many people, because I'm definitely, I was just doing this. Especially when I was doing volume and doing squats like I was not loading the weight on there and like doing all those reps I'm just not used to it so I had to go light you know how light do you go that's a chemicarious be honest don't fucking lie I want to feel better about my work I don't know I don't want to hear you don't worry so long how How long? I was in like 265. Oh, that's still heavy, bro. For how many reps? I think it was like 185 or less, bro.
Starting point is 00:29:49 That's 265 for 12, how many sets? Yeah, just two. Two. So I'll do, if I do, this is what I did today. If I do four, I'll do like two, two 25. Yeah, see that's me. So there's a four, two 25. So I did, so today today so I can front squat
Starting point is 00:30:06 I've my PR's like 315 or maybe a little over that and today I did super set right I did sissy squats to front squats and I haven't done this in a while I haven't done anything over four reps in a little while stupidly so I held a 25 pound plate on my chest Did some real good form deep, you know sissy squatsci squats, 10 reps, had 135 pounds on the bar, 10 reps. I did four sets of that, gasped, pumped. My legs were going to blow up. Fucking rest of the workout was ruined because I was off a teag. 135 pounds. Yeah, I'm saying. And I, and it sucks because it feels light. Like I'm holding it on my shoulders. Like, fuck, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:43 This is light. Yeah. But my legs are just for I feel you on that completely dude. Oh, 100%. 100%. Damn it. Jake X Walker. What do you think of Guru suggesting heavy strength training being the sole method of muscle building and our anti high rep?
Starting point is 00:31:00 Wow. It's right after what we just talked about. Perfect little segue. Um, first of all, are either one of you familiar with who is putting it out there? He says it's a guru. This isn't like Westside Barbell stuff, right? This is... Starting point is 00:31:25 I don't know. There's, you know, here's the thing. I've heard the same thing too. And I have, I just haven't addressed it because I don't know who's coming. Exactly. I'm trying to think if, because I have heard some of the lifters in my gym talk about it. But it's funny, man, how the pendulum swings because, you know, you'll see all people saying, oh, you know, you don't need to lift heavy.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Just focus on getting the pump and getting for, you know, good form. And then these other people will come out and say, no, you don't need to lift heavy, just focus on getting the pump and getting good form, and then these other people will come out and say, no, strength training is the way to go. If you're training to be an athlete, you have to train very specific. So if you're a power lifter, then yeah, you gotta train strength training for the most part. But if you're just trying to be more muscular,
Starting point is 00:31:58 more muscle less body fat, if you neglect those rep ranges, you're missing out on another form of adaptation for your muscles. And you're not avoiding plateaus very fucking well if you're doing that. So it would be like, it would be, and it's the opposite.
Starting point is 00:32:14 Look, if all you ever do is high rep stuff and name for the, you know, chase the pump, you are missing out and don't get me wrong. I love strength training. And strength is the foundation for all physical pursuits, but, you know. But you're not stretching out the potential. At all, right?
Starting point is 00:32:28 The potential increases when you are able to then experience a different type of adaptation. You're not gonna experience that and not stretch it out to a new level if you don't take yourself outside of that same level. Well, you know, I know where this theory is coming from because I've read a lot on and you've heard This is why I talk a lot to volume and there is a lot there is a lot of material out there right now that you know explains that this this is the the B all-in All is that vault at the end of the day all the stuff that we talk about three three sets of this five sets of this 15 sets high reps low reps
Starting point is 00:33:02 talk about three sets of this, five sets of this, 15 sets, higher reps, low reps, super setting, but at the end of the day, it really, look at as a gradual volume increase. In progressive overload on volume, and if you're truly doing that, then it all kind of equates out the same to how the body will respond and adapt and continue to grow.
Starting point is 00:33:17 So I've always read that stuff and interpreted it for myself as, it just shows how important this piece is, but some people believe that it's you don't have to leave it. You don't have to go outside of that. You can literally just stay in the five, five rep range and then just keep, you know, just keep on adding progressively overloading with weight slowly, but surely every single week or month or however you can press your body up. So, you know, there is some truth to it.
Starting point is 00:33:44 There is. I mean, I think that's the think that's the part that it's hard to, to make you will see progress, right? I mean, you'll get better at that one skill. Probably what, when you think about it, right? From a program designing, it's probably one of the better, right? It is one of the better ones out there. Like, if I were to pick a rep range that I was gonna,
Starting point is 00:34:00 if you told me like, okay, it's still too dimensional though. Yeah, you're right. It's not three dimensional. No, you're too dimensional though. Yeah, you're right. It's not three dimensional. No, you're right, 100%. 100% you're right. But if you were like, if each one of us were to pick a rep count, that you were gonna take somebody and keep them in,
Starting point is 00:34:13 and you couldn't go anywhere else, what number would you pick and why? I bet our best argument would probably be right around that rep range, wouldn't you think? I think so. Because you're getting close benefits of, yeah. I think so. No,'re getting the close, you're getting close benefits of, yeah, you know, I think so. And you know, though, here's the other thing too. And this is my, my personal personal observation. I don't know if you guys can chime in on this, but certain exercises
Starting point is 00:34:34 lend themselves better to lower reps, strength training and other exercises. Oh, good point. Let themselves better. Very good point right there. You higher rep and body parts, like training, you know, a curl, a dumbbell curl doesn't lend itself as well to singles. Like you rarely ever see me advocating doing one rep of a bicep curl, but deadlifts lend themselves very, very well to singles. And on the vice, on the vice versa, deadlifts do not, are not really a great exercise than high reps. Yeah, let's look at the number of muscles that are involved in those different lifts, right?
Starting point is 00:35:12 Right. If you're putting that much, if you're trying to overload, you know, on a single joint exercise like that, yeah, that, that seems silly to me. It just go back to the volume perspective again, though, too, right? So that one rep of you pulling 500 pounds, your biceps are extremely involved in that movement still. And they're probably getting more stimulation or overall volume in comparison to the one rep that you could, the most you could probably bicep curls, what, 135 maybe one, maybe 155. I mean, no, probably not. So let's say, yeah,
Starting point is 00:35:42 probably not. But I mean, even if you, even if you could, right, with good strict form, so like that, that one deadlift is probably doing you more gains or more growth in that bicep croak hood. So, and that's comparing a one to one, but that's all relative. When you talk about, you don't ever go deadlift for one time, for one rep, you do five sets of singles. I think of the total volume that the bicep
Starting point is 00:36:03 is actually getting right there and comparison to what you would be doing. It's interesting too, because I've actually heard the argument. I don't know if it was povl, but somebody made the argument that you should never really do more than five reps, because your body is never going to be as effective after that. So he was saying that in terms of strength, of course, but he was saying that anything more than five reps, at that's, you know, at that point, like, what are you doing? He doesn't advocate some of the higher rep kettlebell movements, like swings and stuff like that. Oh, yeah, for swings. So he must have just been talking about. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:36:35 See, that's my point. Yeah, exactly. That's my point. Like, I found that when I do, there's certain exercises that look, look, if you deadlift, and you're going over 15 reps, it's not a good use of a deadlift, it just isn't. Deadlifts do very well at the low rep range, and they don't do very well at the high rep range. Yeah, but right there, they'll stop here, right there, because I feel like why that's so important is wouldn't you agree that it's primarily all
Starting point is 00:36:59 because of the CNS? It is, and it's also because when you fatigue in a big gross motor movement like that Things start to like a deadlift your four whole body fails a little shut off It not only that but there's okay There's a really fine line between a safe and effective deadlift and a very Unsafe dangerous deadlift and the way you move from one to the other is you get fatigue like you you fatigue yourself with reps You can start you can still pull the weight off the floor, but your form starts to go off and then your
Starting point is 00:37:27 injury potential goes up high. A squat on the other hand, you can do high reps with a squat if you've got really good form, if you get really, really tight with it. It's just some exercises work well with higher reps and others don't. Like cable exercises, I don't think it'd be smart to go use cables and go one, two, three reps with cables. It just doesn't lend itself well. It would be funny, right?
Starting point is 00:37:48 I'm gonna do it one day. One arm, cable, rope. I'm gonna do it one day. I want to do it one day. One arm, cable, rope. I'm gonna do it one day. I want to do it one day. I want to do it one day.

I want to do it one day. because exercises tend to work, some exercises work better in certain tempos too.
Starting point is 00:38:06 Yeah. Like some should be done faster than others. Somebody, Well, this lends it back to that whole thing about like, well, how hard is it to really program for your workouts and all that? Oh my God, it's so complex. Like we're just mentioning a whole nother dimension to it
Starting point is 00:38:22 that we didn't even explain when we were answering somebody's question about it a long time ago. But we think about all those things. People, people have been asking us, how do you, how do you program? Like, how do you program routines for people? There's very basic ways to program. But then when you got, guys like us that go into it, we go into it. Like, I guess the best explanation, it sounds, this is gonna sound totally like self-absorbed in pompous, but it's like an artist.
Starting point is 00:38:49 It's like asking artists. You don't wanna give the goodwill hunting. Yeah, it's like asking an artist, hey, how did you just make that masterpiece like explaining me like breakdown the steps that it took to do that? And it's like, I can't, I just kind of did it. If I try to break down all the factors that go into exercise programming,
Starting point is 00:39:10 there's so many of them. And what we're just talking about is one of them, like, some exercises do better at certain tempos and speeds than others. And some exercises need to are better performed with heavier weight and others with lighter weight. And that's why we'll put certain exercises at different phases and put them in the certain order and also. Now plug in a different person entirely that's why we'll put certain exercises at different phases and put them in a certain order. Now plug in a different person entirely that's going through this program and experiencing it.
Starting point is 00:39:31 We're talking about that person as they're going through it. Oh no, this kind of person wouldn't do well with the combo of this right after this. So you have to consider like so much shit a lot. Well then, we sound like asshole. No, I'm just, we sound like, no, we're not gonna be in perspective. Starting point is 00:39:49 I think that's why it's so complex. It's in experience. We've tried it. We've tried it a few times, and I think we, I thought we did a decent job, dude, I think people just wanted more, and I think it's okay. I think this is more.
Starting point is 00:39:57 I think the more and more you listen to mine pump, the more and more, I think you, you start to understand that in a sense, everything we talk, anytime we're talking about retraining, right? Other aside from nutrition, right? Well, if we're just talking, besides nutrition and more, I think you start to understand that. In a sense, everything we talk, anytime we're talking about retraining, right? Other aside from nutrition, right? We're just talking about besides nutrition and supplements. When we're talking about program design, lifting weights, stuff like that, we're always kind of explaining it
Starting point is 00:40:13 indirectly. You know what I'm saying? That's in the more you listen, the more I guess you'll piece together because the next step is to understand that we've talked about the combined of all of us have trained thousands of people. So, it's also about understanding the majority, you know, that I feel like that. Yeah, we understand where most people are going to respond.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Yeah, we're always trying to speak to the majority, not the minority, which in my opinion, the fitness industry does the opposite. They're always trying to speak to the minority, you know, the few super humans out there that are going to respond this way, you got to do this and you got to train this way. And the few that do, they're like, they're all fit in this very, very small little category of people and when in reality, most people are your average Joe or Jane
Starting point is 00:40:54 that just want to feel better, look better, like perform better. Or they completely patronize you and are like, well, you know, I'm just glad you got out of the house today. And here's a program where you just dance move. I'm just gonna dance move. And I'm gonna get the gains. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:11 I mean, when I look at through my eyes as an experienced trainer, when I look at programs, I can completely tell that they're, like you're saying, Adam, they are catering to people like themselves who make up less than 1% of the population. Because I look at some of these workouts, I'm like, I don't know anybody that will respond well to this type of routine, aside from the calorie burn,
Starting point is 00:41:32 there's no rhyme or rhythm that goes into how they've designed the routine, but it's all based on intensity and volume. Well, exactly, and that's, in the reason why it's so easy for us to call it out or see it, so for me, I used to write programs like this. When I was a trainer and I first started, it was the way we programmed design back then,
Starting point is 00:41:53 it shouldn't even be call programs either. The way we wrote workouts back then is just like CrossFit does the wads. You know, that's how I feel like that's, I was that bad of a trainer, which is also probably why Justin and I are so passionate about being anti-crossfit because we probably, we probably caught ourselves even doing that ourselves when we first started because it was, when you're in it and you're in the world of trainers and working with each other and training clients, it turns into this competition who can put clients through the most grueling workouts, the most challenging or the most unique.
Starting point is 00:42:25 What are you doing over there that's so different than everybody else? And so you were always challenging yourself on new movements and different stuff and that, you know, and that's how you put the, oh, check this out. I'm going to put this. We're going to the other. She's probably never done this before. Oh, wow. When I put this to this, she's going to feel the murder.
Starting point is 00:42:40 She's going to, oh, she's going to be sore for sure from this. And then I'm going to add this to that and, oh, God, yeah, wait. Here's what I'm saying. Like, that's how you programmed this. There gonna be sore for sure from this. And then I'm gonna add this to that and, oh God, yeah, wait. Here's what I'm saying, that's how you program to serve the blackout. I'm gonna throw up. Here's what it went into my program design back then. Oh, I did this combo of exercises and it kicked my ass. That's definitely going into a workout that I'm gonna program.
Starting point is 00:42:58 So I know that this is hard, just like Adam said. But here's the factors that I used to factor in. We're gonna work chest. Let me pick four chest exercises. We're gonna work chest. Let me pick four chest exercises. We're gonna do biceps. I know four bicep exercises. Like it was all about, I knew exercises that worked that body part.
Starting point is 00:43:11 And I'd pick my favorites, throw them in. I had some- Roses the body parts around. That's it. You hit them all. That's it. And I had some semblance of understanding that I should probably do compound movements before doing isolation movements.
Starting point is 00:43:22 And that's pretty much it. That's where the program design stops with 99% of the programs out there. No, I think for me, I would love to teach any kind of sports-related type of training or some kind of protocol. I would love to get my grips in with other coaches and then have them implement sound,
Starting point is 00:45:51 write programming for their sports teams. I feel like that's a whole nother avenue that we haven't really addressed specifically yet. I would have a lot of fun with that because you'd be able to see all these kids really benefit from it and a lot less injuries and all these kinds of things that motivate me that I'd determine a good program if the team is healthy and performing at its highest capacity.
Starting point is 00:46:14 So anything related to that are just like, how about biomechanics? So I think you're in the habit. That would be just, Justin would do all that for us. For sure. He'd be the exercise, he'd teach them all exercises like, exercises and, you know, technique and program design.
Starting point is 00:46:27 You know, I, yeah, when I'm listening. Me and Adam would be like, sales class one. So, you know, I'm listening to you guys talk, and I actually, the more I think about it, I actually, I mean, maybe why it was grow. Well, sales online. I would love to teach the online portion of it because like, that's really what I thrived in,
Starting point is 00:46:43 but, you know. You got excited. I'm like, I'm gonna go from this angle. You just got so excited. Adam was talking like, oh yeah. Sales online. Sorry. Sales online.

Starting point is 00:47:32 if you, my success in entrepreneurship has a lot to do with the whole Henry Ford approach. I've always had a talent, but I've always had it even greater talent to put those that are even more talented than myself around me and surround myself around those people. And that's, and that's, comes, goes back to what I've told people a lot too. A part of success, I believe you have to have this bit of cockiness to you with this unbelievable amount of humility that goes right along with it,
Starting point is 00:47:58 which is an unbelievable juggle that you must have. But I think in order to do things like that, where you lead even greater amounts of people, you have to be willing to let go of some things. And I think I would be able to let go of wanting my hands and control of everything of our academy. And I would love to just bring other brilliant minds in and help foster them. And that's how I would want to teach leadership.
Starting point is 00:48:20 Like Sal talks about teaching leadership and stuff. You know, one thing I've learned in it for the many years that we've been in fitness already is that, you know, I'll get somebody who's just fucking brilliant. And we'll talk about, you know, functional mobility since that's been like my world that I've been in and reading a lot of gurus. But they typically have, they don't have the greatest personalities. Or they don't have the greatest communication skills, but they have this brilliant mind,
Starting point is 00:48:42 you know, but their social skills just aren't there. So I know it takes another, I know it takes somebody with some serious talent to be able to put a bunch of people like that in a room and get them all to work together and to do what they do well, you know. And I've always been able to get that out of my people is to get the past out of them. So I feel like if I brought the right people in those places, I would want to roll like that where I'm. So you'd be our recruiter?
Starting point is 00:49:04 Yeah, maybe a recruiter and like overseeing a lot of the what's going on and making sure that it's running smoothly. That's, I don't know. I can totally see that. I can see that totally. Yeah, I think you make good points. So I think that initially like will sort of be like the set up, the framework for all that's right.
Starting point is 00:49:23 But I definitely like like for growth, like 100%, like there's people that know so much more about, you know, mobility or like sports performance or all these different, like I could bring in and just be stoked that they were teaching our community or being a part of our community and then helping everybody to accelerate, like a better message.
Starting point is 00:49:43 It'd be cool to take the classes right along. Absolutely. For me to learn. Yeah. I would love, I've always thought of doing like a motivational class. I would love to do that. I'd want one of those headsets like the Tony Robbins one, you know, that comes down here by my, like,
Starting point is 00:49:57 Britney Spears, and just, I want a big stage and I want to just fucking run across the stage and get everybody excited. I'll be your hype guy.
