The first is that there are some people who are simply genetically predisposed to superior fitness or athletic prowess, something that it would be hard for anyone to refute. The second is several times it has come up in reference to western medicine's ability to treat chronic health concerns. It came up recently when you spoke on ADHD. So if there are people who are simply genetically predestined to be superior in certain aspects, why would someone not simply be genetically predestined to be much weaker in a certain function such as focus? Is it realistic to think that there are people who will simply never be “normal” without some sort of daily pharmaceutical intervention? Does this represent a true belief for any of you or is it just a result of interpretation? (53:26) Quah question #3 – Any tips for an adult male with acne? If you want to pump your body and expand your mind, there's only one place to go.
MIND, MIND, MIND, MIND, MIND, MIND, with your hosts.
Salda Stefano, Adam Schaefer, and Justin Andrews.
In this episode of Mind Pump, for the first 40 minutes, me, Adam and Justin, have some fun conversation.
I talk about my carnival adventure.
He loves him.
Carnies. We talk about my carnival adventure. He loves them. Carnies. We talk about.
I love her.
We talk about all the fights and events that happened over the weekend.
We had Luke Rock Hold versus Branch and MMA.
We had not the older one with Machita.
Yeah, we have Canelo versus GGG and we had the Olympia that just happened.
We talked about how Amazon streamed the Olympia on Amazon owns everything.
It's crazy.
It wasn't the rock hosting it.
Yeah.
Pretty insane.
We talk about Justin's Thrive Market Order of Organic Hydro products for a ridiculous price.
By the way, we are sponsored by Thrive Market.
You can get a massive discount if you go to thrive market.com forward slash
MindPump just and actually talked about his favorite peanut butter from there.
And you'll get a name like $60 with the organic groceries, I believe, with that coupon code.
We also mentioned Organify.
That's another company we're working with.
If you go to OrganifyShop.com, enter the code MindPump.
You'll get a discount on your supplements.
Then we get into the questions. The first question was, can we talk about dieting strategies for women
who have screwed up their hormones from competing and who've gained a ton of weight and can't lose it?
This is actually quite common. Otherwise known as some people call it adrenal fatigue,
some people call it HPA axis to function,
some metabolic damage, it's messed up.
The next question was,
they probably call it that.
Somebody asked us how we can have conflicting views.
On the one hand, we talk about how genes
play such a big role in how you can perform in sports.
And we also talk about how maybe you can cure
most of your problems through changing your behaviors.
Basically they're saying, well, can't genes
also give you issues that you just can't fix
through changing behaviors?
We have a good conversation with that.
You won't want to miss it.
Then we talked about somebody who has persistent acne
and they've had limited success with changing their diet.
So we try to give them some options
because of course we know everything.
Yeah. And finally, somebody asks us if we can give them some pointers on avoiding lower back pain
when they're doing an overhead press. That's a common problem. Many times it comes from the
thoracic shoulder area. So we give you, we give them some remedies. Also, this month enroll in
any program or any bundle and you will get something for free this month, enroll in any program or any bundle
and you will get something for free.
If you enroll in any maps program,
you're gonna get maps primed for free.
If you enroll in the maps prime and prime pro bundle,
you'll get maps performance for free.
If you enroll in the super bundle,
which is one years with the exercise programming,
we're gonna give you maps prime pro for free. Basically, if you get the exercise programming, we're gonna give you maps, prime, pro for free.
Basically, if you get the Super Bundle, boom.
You'll get everything all set up for you,
all planned out, you can get all of this
at mindpumpmedia.com.
T-shirt time.
Give away some shirts.
T-shirt time.
T-shirt time.
Throw the fucking T-shirts out.
Doug!
All right, we had 28 reviews.
See, this last week. It's just gotta tell people how to do it. It's so confusing.
It's an idea. It's got to do that to us. Yeah so we have eight shirts going out to Elijah Finn 3123 Mark Man, sounds like it hurts. D-nickles, Erica Nase, Roman Coke, KC.
That's party.
Racer racing and blastastic.
Yeah, I saw that movie.
All of you are winners, and the name I just read
to iTunes at MindPumpMedia.com, send your shirt size
and your shipping address, and we'll get that right out to you.
Are we ready a roll?
Yeah.
Bring on the meat spins. Shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo, shoo You've seen that to your wife. Yeah, and then he comes and he's like I don't know why my wife does one have sex
I have no idea. I'm like, well, maybe you just stop doing the stop on top of it with your weaners
Yeah, dude, you know, they made a whole like tour out of that so oh yeah, they didn't do it
There was a there was a women like love that there was a guy, yeah, it was a guy who, what was it called?
I was, I don't know, meat puppets.
No, that's what it was called.
No, that was a band.
But he would like do things with his,
something's junk.
And he would make like animals and stretch it
into weird shit and it was a fucking show.
Like the bat wing and all that stuff.
Well, like a, like blue animals kind of,
yeah, yeah, but with your business is Johnson.
Yeah, and he did it and he sold a lot of tickets.
Yeah.
Wow.
I know.
I'm trying to think like, really?
What kind of animals I could make with that stuff?
I think right?
Well, they have a whole, you know, like a plethora of animals.
I can do the draft.
I could probably tie it two knots.
That's about it.
No, if I go to the two knots, that's the most fun.
I can only fold mine seven times. I can't. You don't have to. I can't fold something two knots. That's about it. Two knots. Two knots.
I can only fold mine seven times.
I can't.
What's that rule?
You can't fold something more than seven times.
Here's the thing.
I do origami.
When someone tells me, you know, I can't make any money.
Yes, you can, dude.
You just have to get more creative.
You just have to be willing to do some horrible stuff.
Like to embarrass yourself.
You'll make a lot of money. You just have to be willing to do some horrible, like to embarrass yourself. We'll add to it. You'll make a lot of money.
You just have to be willing to do it.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
What do you think?
What about like what we talked about before?
I think there's a lot of money to be made in these.
I just saw another girl doing this that does her page
is full of like, almost naked photos.
And then you click the link in her bio.
And it sends you to a paid
behind the scenes of all these photo shoots.
I was pretty clever.
I thought it was pretty clever.
It was just like straight teaser.
Yeah, I think it was pretty clever.
I think it was like for 34, 99 a month, I get full access to...
How long have you been a member?
Not very long.
It's, you know, that is the way to do it, but what I find interesting is that these people will then,
who someone pointed out was you at them,
they'll have a link in their bio to where you can go to it
and then you can like buy them stuff.
So yeah, they'll have like a wish list.
And if you're like one of their followers,
you can go there and buy them something and mail it to her.
It's so brilliant, you think about it.
Oh my God, I'm not gonna lie, it's a part of it.
I want to try it. I'm gonna write a list on how to come to me. You can't do it, it's a's so brilliant, you think about it. Oh my God, I'm not gonna lie, it's a part of it. I want to try it.
I'm gonna write a list on how to come to be your...
You can't do it, it's a dawn of Amazon, they may do that.
You can't do it, am I pretty enough?
You're a man.
I still think, maybe...
Women don't fall for that shit.
You don't think?
Oh, I think there is a...
What if there is a...
How do you know there's not a bunch of gay men
that are ready to buy me to go?
Oh, that's different, I'm sorry.
If you're trying to sell the man, you're right.
But if you're selling to women...
Well, I don't think I need to...
Why do I have to...
It doesn't have to be like just to men or women. It could just be people that
would want to view. It's just not as big. The market's just not as big. Well, yeah, I'm
not going to compete against the, you know, yeah, hot chick. No, I just, it's just one of
those things to something that I want to do actually, is I want to introduce legislation
because I think it's a very sexist market against men. We do not have the opportunities to make the same amount of money with our nude photos.
There's clear sexism going on.
Clear.
Do you have any male porn stars?
Do it for freaks.
They do it for free.
They didn't get paid.
Do you know what I mean?
I feel like that's sexism.
Have you watched the JPCers video that is?
All the millennials?
He's so good.
He's so funny.
Did you know he's a cheque?
He's a Paul Cheque certified guy, right?
Yeah, no, for sure.
He actually is an instructor.
Yeah.
He totally gets it.
Well, we've been in contact with him for quite some time now.
It's just he's all the way in the East Coast
and I don't want wanna do a phone interview.
Like he's somebody I'd wanna hit.
I need to do a video with him.
Yeah, it would be magic.
I bet you he's a badass.
Like you know how he comes in his videos,
he's like hilarious and smart, whatever.
But I bet you physically he's probably a badass.
You know what I'm saying?
I think so.
Yeah, look is you that impression.
Because he's very well educated knows a stuff.
I don't mean like it was translates into hell strong.
All right.
Well, I mean, it doesn't have to be hell strong, but I bet he's like super mobile and functional
and can do a lot of I bet you physically he's impressive.
That's all I'm saying.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, I'm just saying.
Okay.
Like a zero logic.
I don't know.
All right.
So anyway, go with it.
Did you guys see my photos from the Carnival this weekend?
Yeah, you got some huge pig or something?
Dude, how did that work out?
Carnivals are the funnest and most frightening places to take your kids all at the same time.
Because there are carnies there.
There are, and none of them have a full set of teeth.
That used to be, that used to be a total slide that we used to do each other
Cut low what we used to say carning you carny worker. Yeah
Well, I mean very few of them have all their teeth
It's here and if if I'm insulting. Yeah, we're we're in fending somebody right
There's always exceptions to rules. So maybe the person listening to this right now. Well, do they travel?
How does it work? Why are they like that? Do they travel with the carnival? Is that they're well back when I was working for them
They they just yeah, no, I don't know how they do it, bro
I think it's like cuz I feel like maybe these people travel with the card
Ishing or something from their family and I think and it's like it's like they're only opportunity
I mean I think it's more like because the carnival is always traveling all over that they don't even have the workers until like the week before
They're coming in they put on their work put them their credit on Craigslist like, you know, people willing to operate a
Ferris wheel for low money and possible.
All you can eat Carmel Corn.
Lots of, yeah, who will work for Carmel Corn in Cotton Candy?
And the rides, the rides at the Cornivals are...
Meth heads pretty much.
They're, they're, they're, they're,
Hey man, I hate to play, it's true.
It's true, it is true.
And the rides are the same rides that we rode
when we were kids at the carnival.
And I don't mean like the same kind of rides.
I mean, the same, like the same color.
Didn't change.
The same paint, like I carved my name on it
when I was eight, it's still there.
Same rides.
And so I'm almost like,
oh, this one's right. This one's right, this one's right.
Salad, Karen, yeah, yeah, it's still there.
The Gravitron, the one right I've never done in my entire life.
It spins, I'll never do it.
The Gravitron, I'll never do it.
That sounds terrible to me.
So it's not his back case, so I can't throw up.
So I can't do the T-Cups and it why can't I've done it?
We were the egg beaters.
So that's what it is, yeah, those were the scramblers.
The scramblers, the egg beaters.
Yeah, those are awesome.
The ones that, so T-Cups and Disneyland's made me throw up.
Like, I can't, I can't just spin in a small tight space.
If it's a big space and you spin me different.
Really?
You don't get dizzy in there?
Yeah, yeah.
So, because you're going so fast, it kind of presses you
up against the wall.
That's what's neat. It presses you against the wall and you hover up.
It doesn't feel like a tight circle that makes you dizzy.
Oh, so that one you're leaning against the wall and everybody's leaning like in a big circle.
Yeah.
And you're on these sliding things, right?
So you're it the the um, the centrifugal force.
Yes.
That's the word I was talking for.
That's the word I was talking about.
I'm gonna start throwing it to the wall.
I appreciate the fucking pass that I'm how to answer for sure. Good job.
So there's some typical force has got me pressed against the wall.
And then you, you, as it speeds up, it's a, you're on these, uh, the wall.
Everyone has like these pads and the pads are on rollers.
So it pushes you against the wall and then you kind of, whoa, you slide up and you're hovering off the ground like four
feet or so, three or four feet.
So it's kind of cool, right?
But you don't get, I don't get dizzy, like teacups because you're in this tight little
thing and you're spinning really tight.
You can't even look at anything.
And that makes me try and look outside.
Talking about it actually makes me dizzy.
Oh, I hate it.
I hate it.
My daughter, she's barely about to turn eight.
She's not eight yet.
She cries because she can't get on these rides yet
because she's not tall enough.
She totally doesn't take after me.
I didn't get on a roller coaster or a scary ride
until I was like 14.
Like I refused, I'm like, fuck no.
And the only reason why I went on when I was 14
was because it was a girl that said I was a pussy. And so yeah, and so I was like, I have to, fuck no. And the only reason why I went on when I was 14 was because it was a girl that said I was a pussy.
And so, yeah, and so I was like, I have to go on.
Come on me out.
And, but I hated them and my son's like me.
And my son's like, I don't wanna go to the carnival.
I'm like, why?
And he's like, my friends, I'm like,
your friends are gonna be there.
And he's like, yeah, I'm like,
is it cause you don't wanna go on the rides?
You feel the pressure?
So he's like, yeah.
You called him out?
I did and I told him, you know why?
He admitted it cause I told him that that's what I did.
Like I hated going to places that I don't want to go
on the rides.
My daughter's the exact opposite.
She fricking cries once I go on it.
This carnival in particular was at this,
it was in the church, it was in the parking lot
of a Catholic church and it was part of the church's
carnival and Catholic church carnivals are the best
because they always serve alcohol.
This is what's great about being Catholic,
is we drink whiskey, you know, the drink.
We do.
There were margaritas and there was wine,
and it was cheap wine, like you could pay three bucks
for a big old glass of wine.
So me, my girl, my kids,
no birth control, but plenty of alcohol.
Yeah, exactly.
Sounds like a good idea.
They want you to reproduce.
Yeah, we go there and we're just. They want you to reproduce. Yeah.
We go there and we're just drinking.
So we start getting tipsy and alcohol and carny games
are a very fast way to go broke because I'm like,
I'm gonna fucking win, dude.
So I, and I know they're all rigged.
They're all bullshit.
So I go do the one, my favorite one.
I always love doing this one.
The one with the pellet gun that you're supposed
to shoot the star out of the paper, you know what I'm talking about?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And you got to shoot the thing out.
I spent a hundred bucks trying to do this.
And hundred dollars, didn't you get a step out of it?
That was 30 bucks.
I got you better on some shit.
No, I didn't.
I spent a hundred bucks on it.
And finally, I look at the paper and I swore to God
this fucker that Karnie dude.
He's like, no, it doesn't count.
There's a red spot there still.
And it was debatable, dude.
And I could have won.
Oh, because you're supposed to blast out all red.
Dude, I could have won a frickin' radio control car,
but I didn't.
Did you guys watch any of the fights?
Since there was so much going on on TV this weekend?
Did you want to know?
God you didn't watch you see fights. You didn't watch the canelo triple g fight. You didn't watch Olympia
There was so much who was fighting in UFC. So that was
Oh my god. What is the name right now to fricken David branch versus
Rock rock hold rock well. Yeah a rock hold. Yeah, who look rock hold? Yeah to freaking David Branch versus Rock Hold.
Yeah, a Rock Hold?
Yeah, Luke Rock Hold.
Yeah, I watched that fight actually.
Yeah, Luke Rock Hold versus David Branch.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That was Friday night I think.
Luke, no, it was all the same time.
Oh, was it?
They were all on the same time.
I had, so I had definitely watched that fight.
On the laptop, I had Olympia being streamed, right?
So I'm watching that, which by the way,
we're gonna get into that in just a minute.
And then also, I'm flipping back and forth
between the Canelo triple G fight with the UFC fight.
So I put money on David Branch,
just cause he's 11 and an O, he's got knockout power
and Luke is in a new camp and he's coming back off.
You fought Machita.
Who?
Rockhold. Went, no. Does he? Well, I off to Machita. Who? Rock Hold.
Went, no.
Does he, he thought it was a different fight.
He fought David Branch.
I was trying to tell you right now.
So that's a different fight.
Yeah, no, he just fought.
He was Rock Hold on FS1.
That was like Thursday, I think.
So it's been a lot of fun.
So he's been in all fights.
So you watched it in all fights.
Yeah, he watched it in all fights.
No.
He just looped Rock Hold just fought David Branch and David Branch was a this is a
salivates to do this right anytime there is these huge underdogs. He's always telling me
to put a hundred bucks on the underdog. So you were in my head this weekend and this was
actually a great time to do it. He was a minus four or a plus four 25. So you know,
I bet that's a great bet. Oh yeah. So I bet I think three or four hundred dollars on him to win
almost two thousand dollars. And oh man, he had him, he stumbled him in the first round. He got
it. He caught him, lost it, almost, almost went. And I was so excited. He got himself back together
and then he ends up beating the shit out of David. And he beat him. He got it. He even
full mounted him.
Oh, I'm just kidding.
Yeah. So Rock Hold,
fuck, I missed that.
So Rock Hold, when he did his jujitsu,
when he first started in jujitsu,
he trained at the same school that I trained.
Not at the same location,
he trained at the Santa Cruz location of Claudio Franza.
And one of the guys that I trained with,
Carlos, what's his last name?
Can't believe it, mellow.
Who's, he's a Mundial competitor
and he's one of the Pan Americans,
like super good Jiu-Jitsu guy.
Used to hate going against him.
He's one of these guys, if you go against him.
He, there's one movie he's gonna get you on.
You know he's doing it, can't stop it.
It's very frustrating.
He came back one day from training
at the Santa Cruz location.
He was the one telling us about Luke.
He's like, dude, there's this kid over there. It's fucking amazing. Ed Jitsu. And he told us
the name and I didn't forget the name. And now to see him fight. It's pretty cool. See
this guy's kicking ass.
Well, do you know he's a badass too. Yeah, like, yeah, they have really high expectations
from him. I mean, it was a good looking dude. He's fit. He's very marketable. Yeah, he's
lost a couple times. And at each time he's lost, he was the favorite, like he was supposed to win, which is also what made me he just switched camps too.
So he's fighting now, I think in he's in a camp and I think in Florida, I want to say,
with a team that I'm unfamiliar with that's up and coming.
And you know, I know he was with AK before.
So I'm like, okay, he just came off a big loss.
He's with a new team and new coach right now.
And then you've got this guy right now
who's up and coming.
He's, I think he's 11 or 12 fights in a row.
He's an X boxer with two belts and boxing.
Like, so, and I've seen David Branch fight a couple of times
and he's definitely got, for sure,
Rock Hold was supposed to be the better fighter.
I was fully aware of that going in there.
But, you know, you want to talk about those fights
where you take a chance.
It's like whenever there's that knockout chance
and then all those things are all,
I was like, there's a good chance
this guy could get upset.
I was wrong, I lost.
But that was going on.
The triple G fight, I know lots of people
are shouting, fuck, and fixed fight
because one of the rematch will be worth.
Well, one of the judges, in my opinion,
if I was, I did not know who to give that fight to.
I thought Triple G did enough to win it,
but I'm not disappointed with the draw.
I know a lot of people are because one of the judges
scored it like one 18 to one 10 or something like that.
Yeah, one 18 to one 20 something or what.
It was a major discrepancy and in Canales favor and it was not like that. Yeah, it was, yeah, one 18 to 120 something or what, it was a major discrepancy and it, in Canales favor and it was not like that at all. So that was pretty like, whoa,
with the fuck so everybody freaked out. Was Oscar De La Jolla part of the production
of this or what's his role in this little thing? Well, you have, you have De La Jolla,
you have Mayweather and you have, who else is another big? Fulking Mayweather. Ooh, I
mean, that Fulking, I won won't almost every major fight these days.
They're like huge, huge promoters now.
I mean, I'm sure De La Jolla was in this one.
I can't remember.
I've just been seeing all these memes with him
after wearing that like a fishnet outfit or whatever.
Oh my God.
It's De La Jolla?
Yeah.
Oh, I didn't see it.
Oh my God.
You ever saw that old photo?
It's so funny.
That late.
It was, it's old.
It was leaked somehow a long time ago.
De La Jolla wearing this fishnet outfit, wearing heels,
like full on.
Oh, oh.
It's hilarious.
Oh no, I haven't seen that.
Oh, I haven't seen that.
That's a good time.
So that was, I thought it was an,
in my opinion, that was five of the decade.
I haven't seen a fight.
Yeah, no, it was incredible.
100% incredible.
And of course, like I said, people are upset calling,
or calling that it was a fixed fight.
I don't think that fight was fixed at all.
I think to try and script a battle back and forth
to look to come on.
Could you tell, based off damage or anything,
like or just your shots landed?
Both guys put, I mean, each guy was fucked up.
Each guy got an incredible power.
I mean, it was like a rocky brawl for 12 rounds, dude.
That's awesome.
It was fucking awesome.
Everyone's the one awesome.
And these are good for boxing because when you get these battles where you have two fighters
like, you know, Ali and Frazier and, you know, there's a bunch of other, you know, battles
where they would go back and forth.
They're so good for boxing people.
So, love watching that.
My theory on this one, which I was wondering is, I wonder if De La Jolla, who I think is that was who put on the promotion for the Canelo fight,
part or talk to Mayweather, who was responsible for the McGregor and Mayweather fight. I wonder if this was all a
strategy to drive more people to the boxing sport and they worked out some sort of deal because when
you think about it, a lot of like the your pierest were really upset about the McGregor Mayweather
fight. And the reason why the pierest were upset was because they're like this canelo and triple G
fight. It's supposed to be five century.
But when you think about it, a lot of people watch that canelo fight triple g now because
the may weather and Gregor 100% because it took so much attention.
And now you have all these people that normally wouldn't.
What was the good thing?
They would have just gone way under the radar otherwise.
Yeah.
I would be fascinating to see the viewing stats and paper view.
I'm sure somebody knows.
I'm sure somebody's like,
I'll guarantee that McGregor fight did like enormous things for boxing,
whether they want to admit it or not.
Like, of course, you know, brought a lot of eyes back.
What about the Olympia?
Olympia, man.
So all I saw were the highlights and the, you know, the finals.
I didn't watch the whole thing.
I'll tell you what, though, one guy I was not aware of,
and I'm not super on the up and up with pro body building.
I kind of keep my finger on it a little bit,
and I was really big into it, like I said when I was a kid,
but that one guy, Bone Act, is everybody else the same?
Yeah, William.
Crazy physique.
I've never heard of this guy before,
so my first time ever seeing him was on the Olympia stage
just this week end, and you couldn't fit more muscle on his frame. Well, that's that
was their knock on hit. Well, not knock, but that's where they said was he's just
small. It reminds me of back in the days with Arnold and Franco, right? Because he
you know who he reminds me of a Lee priest in the sense that he's got a
different looking physique, but priest is one of those guys that just had so much muscle
on a small frame, just looked insane.
Yeah, and I think that's just it.
I think you cannot get him any bigger.
He's a...
Let me show Justin, because Justin doesn't have...
Did they?
Look at this guy.
Holy shit.
Yeah, like I...
Musculate.
Pitchers from muscles.
Yeah, look at that.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, just to just, and by himself, looks unbeatable.
The problem is that when he stands next to somebody who's tall
or whatever, then he, you know, you put it in.
Yeah, you put it in.
So, did they have like the men's physique classic
compete set, Olympia?
Yeah, and then the first time or was it the,
yeah, this was the first time classics were on there.
And, what did that look like?
That guy, the guy who wanted to forget his name looked phenomenal.
I thought it was, I thought he looked great.
I thought the categories were awesome.
I did think they were going to give it to Sadeek though for reasons of like just for
marketing reasons because Sadeek has got like two points, something million people attached
to him already and I thought they would do that.
Yeah, you probably think that they're going to weigh that heavy.
Yeah, because I mean, I don't give a shit what anyone says.
I had, I actually, our forum was kind of talking about this and they were speculating
on who was going to win.
And I said, it's going to be Phil Heath because big Rami is his closest competitor.
And from a marketing perspective, Kai Green was closer to dethroning Phil Heath in my
opinion because Kai Green was interesting.
He had a different look.
He was very marketable.
Big Rom, he can't string two sentences together.
He looks crazy, huge and impressive, but he looks kind of odd.
He doesn't have the same kind of swag as Phil Heath.
He's not pretty like Phil Heath. He doesn't have the same kind of swag. It's Phil Heath, he's not pretty like Phil Heath.
He wasn't a sharp.
His physique wasn't as, from the pictures that I saw at least,
especially from the back, he's massive.
He's got crazy proportions.
The guy's legs and delts and chests are just insane,
but he doesn't have that sharpness to his look,
which Phil Heath does.
I will say this though, Phil Heath's gut
is getting out of fucking control.
I don't think it's Phil.
I don't think you said that too.
And I don't think Phil Heath is any worse
than any other guy that stood on this.
No, but it's worse than he's looked before
in terms of his gut.
And I think the longer you do this,
that's got to be the thing you gotta do.
Yeah, I'm sure.
I think we talked off air about this.
Like, it's, it's crazy to me that these guys, you know,
being somebody who's taking anabolic steroids
for a very long time, like there's,
there's always the fear in the back of your head
that like, you know, what kind of internal damage
in my potentially doing, whether it be from shutting off
my hormones completely or growing internal organs that you
don't want to go. I mean, when you're taking HGH, everything grows, your bones, your joints,
your ligaments, like you're fucking internal organs grow. And when you're taking 10 I use
or more a day of that stuff, I mean, that's what's happening is that all the internal organs
have grown so much that it doesn't matter how lean they get,
they're gonna have this distended belly.
And here's a question I have for you.
So growth hormone does enhance hypertrophy of cells period,
and in the wrong context, that's dangerous, by the way,
growth hormone in the context of cancer,
you're gonna get some aggressive cancers
because it makes the cells grow more.
But here's an interesting question.
Do you think that it's the combination of growth hormone
and the amount of food that they're eating
that could promote more hypertrophy
of their digestive system?
You know what I'm saying?
I'm wondering if that's the problem.
Think about that.
If you know that I know the kidneys grow
when you have high protein intake,
they show that the kidneys do grow. And it's an adaptation to be able to process more protein.
Think about every other system in the body, the more it's worked and pushed, the body
is going to adapt to make that an easier process.
So you've got to think that digestive system would work the exact same way.
I'm wondering if it's constantly being stimulated in work
because you're having to consume 8,000 calories a day
in addition to you in taking a lot of logical sense.
Yeah, I mean, so absolutely.
So I don't know, these guys, it's a, I don't know,
classic, it's classic physique to me look
as way more appealing to look at.
Like I look at the guys in classic physique and they look awesome. They all look like Frank Zane's.
So it's like a bunch of Frank Zane kind of a step below bodybuilding or way less size.
Yeah, yeah, which size they don't which their legs. Their legs they still have to show off.
They got fucking legs. They got bodies. They look like bodybuilders from the Frank Zane.
Yeah. To me, classic physique in bodies, the Frank Zane looked to me. They
really score well for the smaller waistline still, but you absolutely they want they want
that X look. So you got to have wheels on you for sure. So yeah, no, the classic physique
looks awesome. I think the guys in it look great. And of course, I everyone's geared up.
I mean, there's no fucking natural guys in there either,
but at least, you know, and we don't know,
but I'm speculating that the amounts
that they're taking are much lower than what the guys at the.
Phil Heath just has one of those physiques
that you wanna talk about genetics,
like in terms of the shape,
and muscle insertions and all that stuff.
Like he's just, he's got the craziest, most bubbly mass
that I can think of.
You, cause he's got that, he's got that combination of the two.
Usually you've got either shape with a bubble look
or you've got like this mass, but he's got both of them.
Cause he's, although he's not very wide,
he's not the widest body builder.
He's so thickly muscled, even his back looks insane.
I mean, even up there doing those back shots.
He looks, he's got a great physique.
He's got a good, his quads look crazy.
He's a Olympia.
He's a good looking guy.
He's got great balance and overall symmetry
from all the way down from his calves up to his traps
and every other small muscle group on his body.
I mean, he looks great.
The moment I saw him, I thought he brought as good
or a better package than he did last year.
I'm like, you're not taking this title away from him.
It's in the IFB's best interest to keep him worries at
until somebody who's far more, it's no different
than what we see with UFC fighting and McGregor
and we talk about all that shit.
I mean, this is a business at the end of the day.
Speaking of that, let me tell you,
what I was most fascinated in over everything was
to see this being streamed by Amazon.
And I thought they did a pretty shitty job
for their first time around.
I thought it was funny that...
Well, Amazon's what the biggest retailer
of supplements now, aren't they?
And so not only that, but they did say,
probably the worst part about bodybuilding
is the downtime in between.
So now that's now chopped up with good commercials, right?
And by good, I mean, they're well produced, right?
There are some, most of them are all supplement commercials.
They have like reporters almost like in the field, like talking to
interviewing athletes and stuff or was the vibe not that far, but they had Sean Ray and
I forget who the other two announcers were. They had announcers that announced it and they're, they were talking the entire time.
Um, and then you would cut during the, you know, bodybuilders coming off stage, they
would transition over to a commercial, but man, to see Amazon getting their hands in
this, to see the rock, the rock came up and was the one who presented
the awards and talked about like, you know there's going to be a lot of eyes next year.
Oh, it's he called it. He said it. This is going to be bigger and better than ever next year.
Watch. And with the Amazon getting their hands on it with the rock putting his hands in it,
I watch out, watch for what you're gonna,
and we've been saying this for a fucking some time now.
It's been doing nothing but growing on its own.
Yeah, exactly.
It was already growing, and you're about to see it accelerate,
because the piece that was really missing was,
they just didn't present it very well.
For so many years, it's been weird.
It's been like almost a supplement display,
like a competitive space for
supplement companies to like, you know, put their presence there. Oh, and it's going to
become that. Well, I think that they have to go this route because the social media,
fitness bodybuilder stars or whatever are surpassing these competitors in terms of, you
know, the reach for popularity and more ability. So this is just, they're just, they're evolving.
They have to. And you better believe it's going to get even more political. Yeah, it's going to get more political once you start getting there. It'll be interesting to see what it does financially if it changes how much they get supplements and then also to subscribe to a monthly
just automatically get your protein for a really cheap price.
I mean, it's brilliant.
It's fucking brilliant.
I mean, it's crazy to see where it's going, man.
I'm super fascinated.
Speaking of purchasing things online, Justin how's your orders doing with Thrive?
Thrive, that's great.
I just got into their whole website
and dove through all their products
and stuff over the weekend and ordered some cool stuff.
What's great is they vet all these products
and it's all organic and I was able to actually get
a lot of soaps
and things like that for dish soap
and for shaving cream and all these types of things
where I'm like, oh, I'm trying to kind of reduce
a lot of the chemical exposure they have on a daily basis.
And it's not anything I ever really focused on before,
but it's like, what's cool about this?
It's like I can buy all these soaps and shampoos
and all these things to where I know that,
you know, it's organic and I'm not like just pounding
myself all these chemicals all the time.
So that's cool.
How's the pricing comparison?
Because I know when we first,
dude, it's fucking good.
It's great.
I know when we signed with it, that's what I said,
but I haven't gone through it because I just made it,
I just talked about this on the show recently about,
you know, the soaps and the shampoo I felt were of all the things that were making a difference
that I've changed.
I haven't really made that big of a difference, and the price was just astronomical to buy,
so I was just like, whatever about it.
But now that we're connected to thrive, that's been what I've been wanting to check out,
is to see how comparable the prices are.
You're not paying $30 for a bottle shampoo.
Yeah, it's almost like it's wherever you get it,
like normally it's like 30 something percent off
on some of these products, man.
And they kind of recognize what,
like I've purchased before and I was kind of trying them out
in the Thrive Market and they're already kind of like
retargeting sort of like some of my purchases
and then it's, they even gave me an additional amount that I say if you know to incentivize me to kind of
they're gonna buy some of these products. They're gonna kill it. They're gonna kill it. If you go
have it, you go on there. If you buy organic non-GMO products, go on there and look at the prices,
they are gonna kill. I don't see how anybody can compete with that.
Only person that will and I told you this already,
they're in a race right now.
They're in a race.
They're in a race with Amazon right now.
Yep.
Amazon bought whole foods after seeing the thrive market
and really understanding their business model,
which is fucking brilliant because it's,
and the reason why it's so brilliant,
it's a win for everybody.
Like the consumer absolutely has to love it
because it's the Costco of organic foods.
It's the one knock that everybody has on Whole Foods
is what, what's their nickname?
The whole paycheck.
Whole paycheck, right?
Because it's like, if you want this great, great food,
you gotta pay for the crazy price for it.
Right, the premiums.
So if you could actually find a way
to get connected to the best sources or organic farmers
and be able to provide that at the farmer's market
type of price, which that's what Thrive is doing.
They've now taken the farmer's market prices
that everyone knows is so great
and you get these organic foods
and then you can get it shipped to your house
within two days, holy fuck.
Like it's a game changer.
It's a game changer. It's Costco with whole foods Like it's a game changer. It's a game changer.
It's a game changer.
It's a game changer.
I always have a conversation with my parents
over the weekend and I was looking at my mom's cupboards
or whatever and I'm like, mom, at least if you're gonna
buy some of these snacks or whatever get organic.
And she's like, what's the big deal?
It's expensive.
It costs more money this and that.
So pull it right up.
Yeah.
I said, how much did you pay for this?
She tells me the price. I said, here you go, so pull it right up. Show it, I said, how much did you pay for this? She tells me the price.
I said, here you go, the organic version of it.
I was able to find with all the products
that we were arguing over, either they were the same price,
or cheaper.
Or cheaper.
Yeah, it's crazy.
It's a game changer.
Thrive market is an absolute game changer though.
So Justin's peanut butter, I got a bunch of them.
That's my favorite peanut butter, man.
And I was like, wow, it's so cheap. They even has your name on it. I know, it's mine. Well, it was there for I got a bunch of those. That's like my favorite peanut butter, man. And I was like, wow, it's so cheap.
They even has your name on it.
I know, it's mine.
Well, it was there for me.
It'll be interesting.
I'm really, I mean, of course, we partnered with them
because we are rooting for them.
I hope that they continue to do well.
And I'm sure the race is on for who can get to,
because they're on, I think they're fourth round,
they're on their fourth round of funding right now.
So they're making moves right now.
They're pushing, they're pushing hard to, to go over.
Well, even like, or like environmentally,
like they think beyond like most of these companies
we even talk to where they're seen like how
everything is sourced and like, you know,
what kind of footprint they're leaving.
Isn't it beautiful?
I can't believe it. It's all market driven. It's all market rad. It's them coming up, you know, what kind of footprint they're leaving. Isn't it beautiful? I can't believe it.
It is all market driven.
It's all market driven.
So rad.
It's them coming up, them saying, this is what consumers are looking for, which we've talked
about on the show, that if the consumers want it, they're going to get it, and that's what
they're providing.
Like, super transparency, they're providing, the environmental factors are very important
to them.
They give a free membership to like families in need.
So it's like, I don't know how you can hate
on the right market.
You can't.
And the products are good and cheap.
Well, and then you figure the way you get signed up, right?
So I was explaining this to Katrina the other day,
she's like, well, how are they making their money?
I'm like, this is crazy is that you get,
they take out the broker, they take out the broker fee
of all the middlemen.
So you're getting the rates for the groceries that they're pretty much getting it for, which
it already sounds like how can they do that?
Well, okay, then they get their membership, you know, annual membership.
But then on top of that, you get a 60, they're at memberships, what, $60 a year, and you
get $60 towards shopping your first, your first time.
So by the second time you've actually utilized them,
you've already paid for your any-
Yeah, so if you use them two times an entire year,
you've paid for, it's like Costco, same thing, right?
Costco's the same ways, if you have used Costco,
if you use Costco two times in a year,
you've pretty much paid for what you pay for,
for the membership fee, so it's a brilliant,
it's a brilliant model, they got great products,
it's only gonna get better, like I mean it's a brilliant, it's a brilliant model. They got it. They got great products. It's only getting it's only gonna
Get better like I mean, it's it's pretty exciting to it's pretty exciting that and it makes me happy that
We waited as long as we did to align with anybody because I remember it was really tough
Early on when there weren't a lot of companies that thought this far ahead
No, well not only that but the type of type of companies that were coming after us to partner
with them were all these supplements and clothing and all the shit that none of us were excited
about.
And it was pretty cool to have been able to say no to so many companies for so long, to
wait for the ones that we are excited about that that. I think a line with our message.
I can actually get like energetic about mentioning that.
Well, they align with the message
that we've been given for over two and a half years.
So that's pretty exciting that we're able to do that.
I'm super excited about this partnership.
I look forward to see where it goes.
Parker.

Alright, our first question is from Laura B. Fit X. Can you talk about dieting strategies for women who have screwed up their hormones from competing and have gained a ton of body
fat and can't lose weight?
So it's funny, I met with someone recently who this lady is working on a project for her work and she's creating
It's a fitness space and I had never met her before but she had known of me through someone else and she wanted to ask me some questions
And so I don't want to go into too much detail because I think it's
Supposed to be kind on the DL but anyhow
She walks in and immediately,
because I've been doing this for so long,
I can see some of the signs of when people
are in this particular state of being.
You can see it on their face.
They have that look of like they're drained.
Dark gray circles out of their eyes.
Yeah, you know, you could just tell.
And she sits down and we start talking.
And you know, she's training for her third marathon. She just had her second kid, you know, you could just tell and she sits down and we start talking and you know, she's training for her third marathon
She just had her second kid, you know, and you know, we start talking and she's in this particular situation
You see women who compete on stage bikini and stuff who get in the situation and it's really just
You know, you have really caused your body to adapt to this stress of dieting and training
in a way where you may have caused yourself some what they'll call HPA
dysfunction, you know, the hypothalamus pituitary and adrenal gland dysfunction to where
your body, and that's what you said in the question, my hormones are off, and a lot of women will know this.
They'll feel like, fuck, my hormones are off because I have low libido, I'm super fatigued,
I have strange cravings, or I'll get cold sweats or at night, sometimes people will tell
me, in the middle of night, they'll wake up and be drenched in sweat.
That's another sign of this.
It's really your body is either your hormones are, in fact, off off or your body's not responding to them anymore
because your body has down-regulated its receptors
for some of these hormones because you've hammered
your body for so long.
So in order to get out of this situation,
you can't hammer your way out of it.
So what you did to get into it is not
where you can do it, to get out of it.
In fact, you can't even go in with that attitude.
You can't go in with the attitude of, I'm gonna hammer this so I can do it to get out of it. In fact, you can't even go in with that attitude. You can't go in with the attitude of,
I'm gonna hammer this so I can fix it.
You need to take a few steps back.
So the first thing I do with people like this
is I start to reduce, believe it or not,
I start to reduce their cardio activity level.
And I know I say believe it or not
because people will think, well, they can't lose weight.
Why are you having them reduce their cardio? At this point, the cardio
is only making their metabolism slower. And so I slowly start to reduce it. Now, you
got to be careful when you do this because you will in fact initially start to gain body
fat and you have to be okay with that because you want your body to start adapting. So with these individuals, I'll reduce cardiovascular activity, I'll take their total caloric intake,
I'll keep it where it's at, or I'll even slightly decrease it at first with the intention
of bumping it as we move along, and then I'll change their training to be completely focused
on getting stronger and building muscle in a very slow old fashioned
straight sets kind of way.
The goal is to eliminate cardio at some point, completely, which is, you know, don't freak
out, we're going to reintroduce it later on, but the goal is to eliminate cardio, focus
on the resistance training, building muscle, and slowly increase your calorie intake.
The first thing I do with these women too is I'll reduce their processed carbohydrate intake
if it's not already low, but I'll increase their fat intake because many times they need
the fats to kind of nourish their hormone creation and production, and also it's got a protective
effect on the body. But it's a process.
This is a process.
If you're in this situation where you've competed back to back,
and now you're eating a little bit of calories,
and for whatever reason your body won't lose weight,
and your think your hormones are off,
and it's just not responding anymore,
give yourself some months.
It's going to take some time, three months, six months,
and bad situations.
It's taken me a year with some people to get to the point
where, you know, I had one lady I trained years ago,
it took us a year, but at the end of the year,
she was eating significantly more calories,
was much leaner and was doing way less work,
but she was patient, it took some time to get to this point.
I know Adam, this is kind of your specialty,
it's good to invent this.
I made a pretty good little business
out of helping clients that got coached
by other trainers or coaches in the industry
for shows for this exact reason.
And it started off with actually me just kind of helping
a girlfriend of mine who had gone through this.
And I remember as she was going through it, she was telling me like, Adam, you've got to help with actually me just kind of helping a girlfriend of mine who had gone through this.
And I remember as she was going through it, she was telling me like, you know, Adam, you
got to help these other people.
There's so many, I had so many teammates that we were all in the same diet and this coach
is well known and this coach is well known.
And they're all telling them to do this.
And I just wasn't aware of that until I got into the competing world.
And then it was really apparent to me. but I started off by helping mostly this exact
client.
So one, it's tough for me to give specific things to help them.
I will give you some general stuff, kind of like what Sal just did because everyone's
going to be unique and different, right?
And your baseline is different than everybody else's and your hormone profiles different than everybody else's. So to give specifics would
be silly for me to pretend like I have that for you. But I will say that a couple general
things. One, the goal and I think is getting their mentality wrapped around like what they
how they should be looking at themselves and their current goal.
And our goal is for me to get you to eat more calories with less of less cardio exercise
that you're probably doing, right?
Because that's what's happened.
Most of them are stuck in this having to hammer the cardio like crazy starve their body
just to be able to maintain with their at so it's a scary trap to be trapped.
Yeah. No, it is a very scary trap, especially when they try
and do something about it and they see this spike
and weight, you know, in the first couple of weeks,
which is normal.
So I normally have to tell these clients,
okay, I want you to weigh and provide me your weight for me,
not because I care for you to be paying attention to it.
And that's, so what I mean by that is I'm using it so I can kind of get an idea what's
going on because I'll be manipulating your calories up or down based off of this.
But I expect there to be weight gain if I increase calories, just bottom line, especially
somebody who's in this situation.
Plus, I'm going to do what Sal said, which is I'm going to eliminate your cardio.
I'm going to what Sal said, which is, I'm gonna eliminate your cardio. I'm gonna completely eliminate it,
and at the beginning, what I'm gonna try and do
is replace it with just walking.
So walking, or as a no more high-intensity cardio,
no more long bouts of cardio.
So if I'm gonna get rid of all that,
I've got, I don't wanna take you from,
let's just say hypothetically,
what you're doing cardio or doing,
whatever it is you're doing,
you're stepping 20,000 steps a day. I don't want to take you from, let's just say hypothetically, what you're doing cardio or doing whatever it is you're doing,
you're stepping 20,000 steps a day.
I don't want to eliminate that,
take you down to 10,000 and think that you're not going
to blow up because you will.
So what I would do is say, hey, let's get somewhere
between 15 to 18,000 steps, but none of it through cardio.
So I just need, I want need, increase your need
through walking and moving around.
Typically, too, the diet, as far as macro ratios that work really well for someone in this
situation, is a 40, 30, 30.
So a 40% fat intake and a 30, 30 on protein and carbohydrates.
I have found that to be, and then if anything, I will continue to increase fats and lower
carbohydrates at first. But again, this is where I kind of start at the and lower carbohydrates at first.
But again, this is where I kind of start at the 40, 30, 30.
See how they respond.
And see how they respond.
And then I manipulate that based off of what I see.
And if I see you putting on weight really fast, I'll probably drop the carbohydrates and
do most of my caloric intake increase through fats and depending on how where your protein is.
So you give it this way, your body has adapted
to a tremendous amount of workload with low calories.
So this is what's happening, this is why you're in the
situation.
And so your body become desensitized to all that.
So your strategy is to resensitize your body to the
hormones and chemicals that are produced through activity.
So there are some other techniques you can do to do that.
For example, reduce all the things that can cause
spikes in stress hormones like cortisol.
So what I mean by that is when you do go lift weights
in the gym, put on some kind
of slower music. Approach your sets, do your set, but then take a long rest. Meditate, have a great
sleep schedule where you an hour before bed, you turn everything off. You're basically trying to
get your body to upregulate its receptors for these stress chemicals and hormones so it can start responding again.
And the way you do that is by giving your body, you know, kind of presenting your body
this space of relaxation and serenity.
Yen yoga, meditation, these are all things that are really good.
I've even had clients who have home gyms, I'll tell them to work out in low light.
So I'll tell them, use dim lights.
Don't put on any music.
Lif'ts in the quiet.
I know it sounds ridiculous, but I'm trying to, again,
I'm trying to lower your stress response
to your resistance training because we want
to resensitize your body to those things.
Then when you go back to your normal workout,
you get crazy results again.
That's really the game.
As far as like, supplementing and things you could do,
because then people always ask me,
like, well, what can I take?
What can I take?
If you're not doing the sleep,
if you're not doing the diet,
if you're training isn't proper,
then supplements are a complete and absolute waste of time.
If you are doing those things,
supplements can help.
They can help take the edge off. So one
of the supplements that I will recommend more recently is the green juice through organifi.
It does have adaptogenic properties or things in it. And it does have, and I've noticed
this with myself, and clients, it does seem to help balance people out. Again, it's not
going to do shit for you. If diet and training are it does seem to help balance people out. Again, it's not gonna do shit for you,
if diet and training are,
if you're still doing your tons of cardio,
lifting the weights the way you were
and eating nothing like you were,
it's not gonna help you.
Additional supplements are things like Ashwaganda,
Ulithro root, these are things that are adaptogenic,
but really it's about slowing things down,
focusing on building muscle, getting good sleep,
slowly increasing calories, and changing your mindset to a build strength, build muscle mindset.
That's your goal.
Another really good strategy along the lines of what you just said about building muscles.
So this is something that I do too.
Again, this will, this would depend on each person individual,
but most of my competitors are coming off of,
if they were following Maths Black,
you're coming off of high volume hypertrophy type of training.
So I want to switch your adaptation for sure.
So I know that if I'm going to reduce your cardio
and I'm going to try and implement more calories
into your diet, we are gonna put weight on,
but if we can do, if we do a really good job,
great point.
Most of this weight will be muscle,
which is only going to help our metabolism.
So, it's really yet.
So, phase one of any of the maps programs.
Now, the only way this would be different
is if you just came off of that
And then I would put you somewhere else
But if you're most people are not especially my females were not training like this
And they trip out when I tell them this is what we're going to do like okay
We're gonna be running some and I would even if it's someone I have a close if I'm helping them and I have a close
Eye on them I would even push them as low as singles and doubles and triples like it's perfect for this
Yeah, because this person that's so close eye on them, I would even push them as low as singles and doubles and triples. Like it's perfect for this. Yeah.
Because this person that's so abnormal for them, it's such a new adaptation for their body
that this increase of calories is going to make sure that, okay, yes, you're going to
put weight on, but guess what?
Like the five pounds that we put on over the last three weeks that you were adding calories
hopefully was muscle because we've changed your adaptation.
It's new to the body, so your body hopefully puts on some good muscles.
So I would do some heavy lifting and don't be afraid of that scale.
If you're doing your job correctly, if you're throwing a new adaptation at it and you are
training heavy and you're not used to training that way, and you're running like a map's
phase one, and you're doing heavy and you're not used to training that way and you're running like a maps phase one and
you're doing that
While you're increasing calories who cares if wake goes on because I'm telling you right now
You're adding some muscle and if you do it right when you when you go back the other direction your body will respond
Yeah, and again, don't forget we're literally trying to repair your body and here's two things
That you should not do that I want to make sure I mention.
Number one, if you're in this category of people where you're, you know, your metabolic damage or
HPA access systems dysfunction, adrenal fatigue, whatever you want to call it, fasting is not a good idea. Fasting is not a good idea. In fact, fasting may keep you there longer.
So this is where I tell people to,
you know, listen to your body, eat when you want.
We're not gonna purposely fast.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is absolutely fine.
And the second thing is whenever I find people
in this situation, nine out of 10 times,
they excessively consume caffeine.
Nine out of 10 times. And the reason why they excessively consume caffeine is because they're fucking tired all time
And they're like it's almost like they're artificially providing their body with cortisol so
With these people the other thing I do is I slowly reduce
Their coffee intake and their caffeine intake until I take them off
Coffee completely you don't want to go cold turkey coffee because you will feel terrible. You will die.
You will feel terrible.
I would.
But I slowly reduce their caffeine intake
to the point where I get them almost off or off.
And then we can start building things back up.
Quick commercial break.
Hey, people ask us all the time
how they can support mind pump.
Here's what you can do.
You can go to www.brain.fm-forwardepump and get 20% off brain FM for meditation or focus.
You can also go to audible-trial.com-minepump and get a 30-day trial plus one free audio
book. Lastly, you can go to www.getnatureblend.com-minepump and you will get a discount on Ben Greenfield's
CBD product. The next question is from Justin Lacky.
There seems to be two views frequently presented on the show that seem to be conflicting.
First is that there are some people who are simply genetically predisposed to superior
fitness or athletic prowess, which is hard to refute.
The second is that chronic health challenges, such as ADHD, can be largely overcome with
diet exercise and improved sleep.
So if there are people who are simply genetically predestined to be superior in certain aspects,
why could someone not be simply genetically predestined to be much weaker in a certain
function such as focus.
Is it realistic to think that there are people who will simply never be normal
without some sort of daily pharmaceutical intervention?
Oh, there's several things going on here. And before you clown on it, because I know you're going to,
there's some of these are true. So these don't all add up, right? Okay, so absolutely, there are people
that are genetically blessed and that respond to steroids,
respond to muscle building different than other people
and will have a superior genetic,
just like there are faster athletes
that just have it and are gifted.
And then there's also people that have,
and this is getting into
like epigenetics that are predisposed or have potential to getting certain.
There's there, but you have to set them off. Right. That could potentially get certain
things, whatever that disease or chronic illness could be. And because of their choices,
or their choices that they've made that has now got those genetics to express themselves
and they're dealing with that.
And then you drop into questions,
he got one into ADHD.
Well, he's basically saying that we talk about how
genetics can make you can provide you
with these superior benefits.
But then we did an episode, excuse me,
where we talked about ADD and we said,
geez, if you just fix your diet, your sleep,
and you know, exercise and all that stuff,
that you know, most people wouldn't have ADHD
and he's like, well, why can't people have genetics
to have ADHD?
You also, and that's true, but here's what you want to consider.
This is very simple, it's very, very simple.
Your genes give you potentials.
So imagine if you look at a graph
and you have an upper limit of potential
and a lower limit of potential. In other words, at my best, this is the absolute best
that my genes will ever let me get at my worst. This is where I could get with my genes.
Those potentials exist where you fall in between them.
That's up to you.
Is your behavior?
Is your eating, your sleep, your diet're everything you do in your daily life.
So I could have, like, just have horrible luck
with my genes for heart disease,
but I could speed that the fuck up
or I could slow it down quite a bit
through what I do every single day.
This same is true for ADD.
Now the reason why we talked about ADD and ADD and ADHD,
the way we did in that past episode
is because when you see all of a sudden a huge explosion of people getting prescriptions
for or that are just getting diagnosed with something, you've got to ask yourself what
is going on. Is it either we're looking for it more and now we're categorizing people easier?
Or is it because these symptoms
are displaying themselves more,
or is it both and why?
It's just like obesity.
Let's talk about it.
This is an easy one because I'll talk about obesity
because everybody can connect to this one.
If you look around at the average person today
in modern societies, the average person today in modern societies,
the modern person today is far fatter than the average person
was 500 years ago or a thousand years ago.
Cheating here with that far.
Or a hundred years ago, right?
You don't, 50 years ago.
You don't have to go back that far.
Did we, did our genes change that much in 50 years?
No, our potential is the same as it was 50 years ago.
The difference is now we're hitting the fat limit
because of our lifestyle.
So my belief is when it comes to things like 80D and 80HD,
that those potentials were always there,
it's just our lifestyle has changed dramatically.
Like kids' diets, their activity level, their exposure to electronics, the fastness of life
and the fastest of getting information, very different than what it was when I was a kid.
So it's pretty safe to say that those things probably are playing a role in this explosion
of diagnosis of things like ADD and ADHD, absolutely.
So it's all about the potentials and your lifestyle
is what expressed.
Yeah, I feel like, I don't feel like there's things
that we say that are contradicting themselves or that,
because just because Phil Heath has great potential,
he's still got to go work out.
He's still got to do the things to get that potential.
Even somebody who has the potential to have ADHD
or there's still things they do
to make that a bigger issue in their life, right?
So everything that would be, are.
I don't know about you guys,
but when I have my diet is off,
when my sleep is off,
when I'm not active,
and if I'm in front of electronics and shit all the time,
my focus is way the fuck off.
My focus is way off.
I don't know anybody who this is not true for, okay?
Where it just affects your focus.
Now, maybe you're one of those people that affects your focus,
but you're still able to be really focused and do well.
And I'll still challenge you and say,
if you get good sleep, if you exercise, eat right,
it's gonna get even better.'s going to get even better.
Right.
You know, it's going to get even better.
So, there's always the genetic component and always the environment component.
The genetic component, there's parts of it we can't control the hard genes, but now
we're learning with epigenetics that even those can change through your behaviors and your
parents' behaviors and your grandparents' behaviors.
And then there's the environmental component which you're in total control of.
Like, why not do all the things you know you can do and not really work on all those
environmental factors and see what your true range and capacity is.
And then, you know, from there, you can see whether or not you need medication to kind
of provide further.
Dude, I took my kids, so we talked about how I went to the carnal those weekend, right?
So I had to do a lot of work this weekend.
I was organizing some stuff.
I did some writing.
I had my kids with me.
And it's just, again, nowadays, like kids don't go outside
and if they do go outside, there's no other kids out there.
So my kids are on their devices.
Time got away from me.
It was noon before I was finished
and my kids had literally been on their devices
from 7 a.m. till noon.
So fucking hours were there on their devices, right?
I take them off their devices.
Of course, they're pissed off.
My son's always like, five more minutes.
I'm like, listen, Kate, you've been on this thing for fucking five hours.
It's not five more minutes. I'm like, it's okay. I'm like, listen, Kate, you've been on this thing for fucking five hours, not five more minutes.
I'm shutting it down.
So I shut it down.
I take him to lunch.
Both of them are grumpy.
Both of them are quiet.
Nobody's really talking.
It's completely because that's what they were doing
all morning.
Then I take him back, we eat lunch.
They start to kind of warm up a little bit.
Then we go to the carnival.
And we start having fun. On the we go to the carnival and we start
having fun. On the way back from the carnival, everybody's talking and joking and engaged
and we're having a great time. And my daughter, who is extremely perceptive, one of her gifts
is she's incredibly perceptive, just brilliant in this aspect, especially for age. She stops
as we're opening the front door and she goes to my son, she goes,
did you notice your mood before we left?
And now she goes, you're a different person.
She said to your brother.
She said to her brother.
And she goes, I'm a different person.
And I'm just like, I'm on a cry,
I was so excited that she notices.
And I'm like, it's because when you guys are
in your front,
your computers and devices and sitting down and not moving,
your brain starts to adjust and turn, you know,
and adapt to that.
And it takes a second to get out of that.
It goes, do you see how much different you feel?
I said, do you see why it's important
to do all these different things?
And it was a brilliant observation on her point,
but I mean, fuck, man, kids today, they don't move.
So I have a question for you guys and more so, because I don't know if Justin, you deal
with it as much because yours are a little bit younger, but if you do chime in, if you
could go back and do things differently with the introduction of these tools, i.e. phone,
iPad, video games, whatever that.
What'd you do anything different?
Like, do you look at yourself and go,
like, fuck, I wish I would have done this
or set these guidelines or been,
what, like, could you have done something different or better?
It's, it's, it's, um, these devices, you know,
using the internet, navigating whatever,
is a incredibly valuable tool and a blessing
if you use it properly.
And the way I look at it is like this.
When we were kids in the 80s and then 90s,
processed foods became massive.
They were huge.
If you go before the 70s and 60s,
processed foods weren't that big.
Like kids ate kind of what their moms made
and things were homemade and stuff like that.
And then it kind of got really grew.
And then when we were kids, it was so big.
And everything we ate was process.
It was a hungry man.
Everything we ate was process.
When I was a kid in school,
like everybody ate everything processed all the time.
I'm Tarts.
Because it was new, right?
It was new in the market. Now my kids, and I know a lot of kids now,
still eat horribly, but a lot of kids,
you weigh better than the kids when I was growing up,
because I think now we know we need to monitor it.
The same thing with electronics,
like I'm not trying to take them away from my kids.
I just have to create guidelines,
because it's a reality of the future of the economy.
Like, my kids are gonna work with these things.
If I eliminate them completely, that's gonna hurt them.
But if I don't monitor it and parent it a little bit,
then they're gonna get the negative.
So there's nothing that you could have done
or you think you would have done differently?
I just, I'm learning as I'm going along.
Like, one of them is like, if I want them to go outside,
I gotta go outside with them.
I can't just tell them to go outside.
I kinda, it does remind me a little bit of,
you guys remember when video games first came out,
you know, and how like crazy awesome that was,
and like, I was like so stoked to run to my friends house,
and like, we're gonna play Super Mario, you know,
and like, we were consumed by it.
And it was because it was the new technology
that, you know, your next neighbor, your best it was because it was the new technology that your next for neighbor,
your best friend had that was the cool thing.
And so I kind of get it from that perspective.
If you try and kind of trace back
when we were sort of consumed, really consumed by something,
you can figure back then that was the thing.
It was video games. But yeah I I think about all the time
I'm not like at sales like levels for as like the introduction of it at schools like way like you know like a
Greater challenge, you know with older kids. So I'm I'm still in the process of trying to kind of figure a lot of that out
But I'm definitely like introducing it,
but like setting a timer and then, you know, pulling away
and like giving them warnings a couple of times
before I take it away.
Well, that's so, that's so key.
Yeah, that is so key because if you just walk up
to your kids and take that shit away,
they'll go crazy.
Yeah, so you got to tell them like, okay,
I'm gonna set the timer five minutes left
and then they seem to be cool with it.
They'll turn it off. It's not a problem. And I have them hand it to me, so I'm gonna set the time or five minutes left and then they seem to be cool with it, they'll turn it off.
It's not a problem.
I have them hand it to me, so I don't take it away from them.
Like I have them like, you know, turn it off
and literally hand it to me and look me in the eyes, you know,
cause it's like, they just like, they really like get
into it like so focused on it that it takes a while
to process.
I think that every parent should have to read the book
irresistible.
I know, I urge anybody who's listening to this that
has kids, especially if you have young kids, you know, Justin, you talk about remembering what it
was like. And I was a video kid, video game kid, and addicted to video games for many, many years
of my life, for sure. I played it all the way into my young adulthood. So I can relate, right?
But there's this monster is a little bit different
and we've only had it for 10 years,
so it's not like we haven't really,
we didn't really truly experience it.
10 years ago, the three of us were not consumed
by my space and Facebook.
Like, it wasn't a lifestyle.
No, exactly, it wasn't a part of our lives.
It's not only now a part of their lives,
but it's how many of them connect to themselves and it's a lot of them identify
with their online personas and and that whole
virtual network and social media more so than the else so and the and I said, why I say I urge everybody that's a parent to read the
book because it just, it really opened my eyes up to things that I wouldn't thought to think about.
And that's one of them, like it's that to talk a lot about a VR and like how that's what that
looks like with, you know, people growing up with it. They touched on it at the end, like caution
towards it, but we because again, it's not something that we're dealing
with yet, they really addressed everything
that what we can talk about the 10 years.
Like, we now have at least 10 years of data to show
what's happening.
What do we learn in the last 10 years
from the social media, and those that grew up with it,
and those that adopted it, like,
and what does that look like for us? And it was very interesting to hear some of the things
that they compared it to,
but getting into drugs and stuff like that,
and being even more so dangerous than that.
So, you know, with things like drugs,
when you become addicted to them,
or you're doing them so much,
they're like, Sal said earlier about signs on someone's body
when someone does a lot of drugs,
it's hard not to notice it.
And they know they look up, right?
So there's a different type of policing
that naturally happens because you almost feel guilty
or ashamed, you're trying to hide this addiction
that you have because you know it's bad, you know it's bad for you.
But the social media thing and the internet
and the phones and the iPads,
we keep referring to them as tools.
Nobody's referring to them as a drug,
but they're actually closer related to a drug
than they are a tool.
And so when you start looking at it,
it's even worse than food addiction.
Right.
Because now it's like, yeah, we at least identify with food
that, you know, there's a potential towards obesity
or a potential towards some, you know,
like catastrophic health issue, right?
Right, we get this,
nobody's got that relation established with with these.
There's more of a tangible feedback, right?
There's things that you see somebody who overeats
for a long period of time, you can see it on them.
You can see it.
You see somebody who does drugs and smoke cigarettes
all the time.
And we're just trying to see it from posturing
and from ways that you have communication skills.
Right, right, right.
So.
It just requires more parenting.
I mean, yeah.
Yeah, no, absolutely.
I know that's why I was at me prodding those questions
from you guys, because I'm just curious, because being someone who doesn't have a kid, these are I know that's why I was at me prodding those questions from you guys because I'm just curious
because being someone who doesn't have a kid,
like these are the things I think,
like if I were to, like, how would I do this?
Like, how would I?
It is important to you all.
I also challenge you guys just the way
to weaker to a go about, you know,
that it's important
because now you're also affecting their future, right?
Because in the future, to get a job,
they're gonna have a social presence.
So it's like, how do you teach them that it's a tool and a drug at the same time?
It's a currency, right?
Like you said, going forward.
Next up is Fricky Jake, who struggles with persistent acne and has had limited success
with the elimination diet.
Any tips for an adult male with acne?
He already eats organic and processed foods and avoids common food and tolerances.
So this is a tough one.
Freaky Jake.
This is a tough one because the changes to your skin,
especially when you present things like acne,
can take a little while when you start to make changes with your lifestyle and people tend to get frustrated like
they'll change things and then they'll be like,
my skin's still bad, you know, what's going on.
And it could take a little while.
Your, there's a couple of things here.
Skin is obviously affected by hormones.
Hormones change with your diet,
but they take longer to change than other things.
So you can't fix your diet and have a shift in hormones.
It takes a little bit.
There's also a microbiome on your skin that is, it's like your fingerprint, just like your
microbiome of your gut.
And if your microbiome is off in your gut, you get digestive issues.
If your microbiome is off on your skin, many times you get displays of it being off with things like acne or other
types of skin issues.
One of the things you can do to help balance out your microbiome on your skin is believe
it or not you can first wash your skin with a stringent that kills everything, but then you can use, they actually have,
believe it or not, probiotic sprays
that you can use on your skin.
And some people have had success with those
where they'll put these beneficial bacteria on their skin
and they'll see changes, positive changes to their acne.
You can just wipe shit on your face too.
This is a bad bacteria.
Oh, it doesn't work that bad.
Oh, no, no, no. Sorry. Maybe you can wipe just and shit on your face. You got good, you bacteria. Oh, it doesn't work that well. Oh, no, no, no.
Sorry.
Maybe you can wipe Justin's shit on your face.
Yeah, I've got good tissue.
We tried that.
I actually haven't dealt.
I've actually haven't had a lot of people
that I've helped this with.
It's very rare that we get a question that I'm like,
hey, you know what?
No, they think I am a dermatologist.
I am a dermatologist.
I just, I really, most guys that were concerned with that,
most of them are around that 17 to 19-year-old
range with that, and it's pretty normal.
I had bad acne in high school, and my junior senior year, like going through puberty,
and when I grew up hit about 20, I think it was almost a limit, and I watched it slowly
get better and better and better naturally, right?
So the thing to consider too is he says he avoids...
I said like bad sits every now and then.
Yeah, the massive ones.
Oh, the big cystic ones.
Yeah, he says he's avoiding common food intolerances.
Here's something you need to understand with food intolerances.
They are very individual.
So there's the common food intolerances because when people have food
intolerances, they tend to have these typical ones, right, dairy, gluten, nuts, soy, corn,
egg whites, those are the common ones. But I've trained people who have it intolerance
like bananas or intolerance to red meat or intolerance to broccoli.
So, you have to really...
What's a good test for him to go do?
He's done the elimination diet.
He has, I wish I could talk to this guy
to see how he did it because a real elimination diet,
you eliminate foods, and then you eliminate other foods,
and you give yourself three weeks or longer
without that particular food,
and then slowly reintroducing
and when you eliminate products that you use,
like shampoos and soaps and all that as well,
kind of like introduce other ones.
And it takes a while, dude, it takes a long time.
I have a young lady that I've worked with
who it's taken us six months of,
everything was fine, her digestion worked,
her body's feeling great,
but she's like, my acne just won't go away. And I'm like digestion worked, her body's feeling great,
but she's like, my acne just won't go away.
And I'm like, well, let's see what happens.
Let's give it some time.
Six months later, now she's starting to have
the effects on her skin.
It's just, you know what sucks here is like,
here we are answering it like we're a bunch
of dermatologists, which we are not.
But then it sucks because I don't even feel comfortable.
You go to dermatologists for your,
for your service.
That's how effective it is.
That's where I'm going, you know, it's like,
and I've had people before, crack jokes before,
about some of the questions that people ask us,
and they're like, they're not even doctors,
or they're not a dermatologist.
You know what shitty is, I wish I could just send you
to a dermatologist and say, go see your dermatologist,
and hopefully they're gonna give you the answers
and help you, but the shitty part is,
they're the ones that just wanna give you the creams, help you, but the shitty part is they're the ones that just want to give you the creams
and pills and things to help suppress it or
and in reality none of them ever talk or most of them don't ever talk about
at least in my experience I've never had a dermatologist and being someone that's
battled with psoriasis for you know 10 plus years now I've seen quite a few of
them and it wasn't until just recently that I even start addressing my vitamin D deficiency.
And that should have been like one of the first things that they-
Well, dude, you know, we just need somebody to reach out.
That's a dermatologist that thinks that way.
And then that way we can start referring them to these types of professionals.
That's a good point.
I would love to have a team, a virtual team of people that can give quality answers, you know,
for these types of things.
Yeah, because they almost never tell you dietary things
when you go to the dermatologist now.
You know, you go there, you've got, you know, Acne
and they don't tell you like, well, let's look at your diet.
In fact, I've had many people tell me,
my dermatologist says that my diet
does nothing to do with this, which is ridiculous to me.
Of course, your diet has to do with, it affects everything.
It's what you put in your body every day that becomes a part of your body.
Here's something you can try to.
You can try and I've had success with this with clients.
You can try starting off with a fast, like a 24, 48 hour fast.
You may break out more during this period because fasting does alter your microbiome and then do a plant-based diet for a while.
For whatever reason, and this is anecdotal,
but I've had it now with enough clients,
where when they switch their diet to more plant-based,
where they're eating more greens, more cooked vegetables,
less animal products, no processed foods,
that seems to do the trick with a lot of people.
I had one person I trained a long time ago
where we were like, we couldn't figure it out.
Like, we didn't know what it was.
And she did everything right.
And then she went almost vegan,
where she had some animal products,
but not much, and it was very, very plant-based.
And her freaking acne, like, she, her skin went
from total acne to incredible.
So that's another option.
I really mess around with your diet because that has going to have the biggest effect
from my experience.
Quick commercial break, you guys.

Next question is from who is ZQ77?
Can you give some pointers on avoiding lower back strain
when doing a standing military press?
Oh, almost certainly they are.
They're probably pressing the way I used to press,
which is-
So this is arch and lean back?
Yeah, you arch and lean back
and you gotta get underneath the bar
and you're for sure this is like Justin
just said this is our compass test inside prime. So in prime they'll go through a three part test
and this will tell you pass or fail. So it'll give you specific movements to help with those
mechanics. I also talked like I think this was last year when I was going through my whole
shoulder mobility series and I was putting videos up on my Instagram of different shoulder
mobility stuff that I would do and then getting to the point where I started off with behind
the neck pressing with just the bar because I couldn't do any weight and I slowly progressed
you know 10 pounds and 20 pounds and 30 pounds
that eventually 45s on each side, but it took me a long time to have that mobility of
and to be able to pull my shoulders back to press properly.
But if you're maintaining that deep core connection, you know, like you just have to get
in a place where you actually feel like what it's supposed to feel like and supporting
your spine as you're lifting anything overhead.
And if you can't maintain your anterior pelvic tilt, always wants to go into that position
and you get the successive back arch, let's work on that.
Let's do the necessary exercises and isometric holds and these different types of tests
that we've created in Maps Prime.
Like go through that process and fix it.
You know, it's going to take some time and work, but you need to know what it feels like to have proper support,
you know, pressing something on it.
Yeah, sounds like a good point.
Yeah, Z Press.
That was a good, that was a good, like a broomstick.
Yeah, that was a go to move a mine when I was working on the overhead.
Right, I don't have legs.
Yeah, it doesn't, yeah, I won't allow you to arch like that.
You just can't.
If you go into that position, you'll fall backwards.
So that is a good point.
And it's definitely an excellent way to start off.
So I would highly recommend adding Z presses into your routine.
Put a lot of emphasis on the overhead holding part.
So if I was doing, I would do a Z press.
After I Z press, I would hold and stabilize above my head,
gather myself for good three to five seconds,
then pull down, then press back up.
So the reps are real, and like Sal said,
start with a really lightweight first
because you're just trying to work on mechanics.
So adding your Z-press in there.
So Z-press, prime, those would be the things.
But obviously the reason why it's training your back,
you're arching your back, you're arching your back
to do that.
If your joints were stacked and you were neutral and stable,
you should not feel that at all.
No, you're two areas that are most common with this
or two issues.
Like what we're talking about now,
your inability to get scapular retractions
so you're not able to press directly above your head,
overhead carries help a lot with that,
like where you're holding one dumbbell
or one kettlebell arm straight locked out,
bicep next to your ear, so you're just one straight line,
and walking, but also brace the shit out of your core.
Just like pretend like someone's gonna punch you
in your stomach when you're overhead pressing,
and your back will stop hurting.
However, if you don't have the ability
to press straight up above your head,
and then you'll find that when you brace your core,
you're unable to get the bar straight up above your head.
So you gotta go way, way lighter.
The good news is this, people typically progress quickly
with this. If you do this right, within weeks,
you should be able to get to the point
where you can press up above your head
and not have any issues,
and then you can start adding weight
and then watch what happens to your shoulder development.
It's pretty awesome.
