If you want to pump your body and expand your mind, there's only one place to go.
Mite, op, mite, op with your hosts.
Salda Stefano, Adam Schaefer, and Justin Andrews.
When was it that we went where we were down in LA doing this interview at them?
How long ago was it?
Um, it was about a month ago.
Was it 30 days ago already?
I would say pretty close to that.
Feels like longer.
Yeah, those. It was one of our podcast. At pretty close to that. Feels like longer. Yeah, those.
It was one of our podcasts.
At least a month ago.
It was one of our podcast hard.
It was our last trip, wasn't it?
It was.
Yeah, we were down there doing all these podcasts.
This was when Justin and Douglas were shooting
for the new program.
The new program.
The new program.
Yeah, and Bradley Martin was kind enough to let us use his gym.
Yeah.
What's the name of the school?
There you go, a zoo culture.
Great gym, by the way.
Yeah, it worked out perfect for what we were trying to do.
Did you?
Did you?
Did you?
Did you?
Did you?
Did you?

Did you? Did you? Did you? Did you? Did you? There's little little scuffles little kerbaffles really kerbuffles kerbuffles
Otherwise it was pretty good. Otherwise. It was fine. Yeah. Yeah. No. I mean we tried to be really respectful
What the fuck what happened? Is Jim and this and that you started fights inside somebody else's Jim bro?
We were really aggressive. We're coming in there with film and everything
You know what was get out of my way like we just took over the gym. Yeah, it was our fault
You liar. It was our little pre-mandana gym. Yeah, it was our fault. It was our little pre-Mondana cameraman.
Yes, it was.
So, 100%.
Taylor and his high water support.
Get out of here, like not fit in with the girls.
I need the lighting over here.
I need this over here.
He was like so demanding.
I get why everybody is angry with us.
No, no, it didn't happen like that.
But yeah, it worked out.
We went like the whole time and just shot like every video.
We got it done.
Yeah, so while you guys were doing that for like a full day and a half straight, Adam and I were doing Disneyland.
The hard work.
Oh, we went to Disneyland.
So it was hard.
So we got to describe what you guys, you know, covered in these in these in this episode.
No, actually, I'll tell you what, man, why I mean, okay, yeah, we were podcasting a lot. We got one. We got one. We got one. We got one. We got one. We got one. We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one.
We got one. We got one. We got one., and Brandon. We don't plan for it to go this direction.
I think just goes deep.
It's fire, dude.
I mean, the conversation got, it was good.
It's like we all, you know what it is?
It's we're all similar in a lot of different ways.
We're all different in different ways as well,
but we're also very similar.
In the sense that we've all come up in fitness,
we were all trainers.
They own a gym now. and so the conversation's easy.
You know what I mean?
We all have the same kind of interest or similar interest,
and it was pretty cool.
We had a good time.
I got pretty deep there.
I got a lot of connection to Bradley Martin too.
I feel like he's what, nine, 10 years younger than I am.
So I see a lot of myself in him in many ways.
He's obviously a lot of fucking stronger, you know.
But I'm a little bit more attractive.
So where he makes, where he makes up there.
I mean, there's similarities.
I have red water too.
Right, right, right, right, right, right, right.
Kind of the same thing.
He didn't want to do, he didn't want to work out on me though.
So I think he's, you know what I mean?
Scared.
Yeah, I didn't want to do the, is that true?
Yeah, well, yeah, because a lot of people scared to work out.
Yeah, there's three, you're throwing that back out there.
You know what I mean?
No, it was good.
And I really meant I really enjoy the boys, Mason, and Brandon, both, both the other.
Great guys.
Yeah, no, the really good dudes.
Um, I think like Salah saying we have a lot of things in common with these guys.
We got into a really good talk too, just about business.
Um, you know, we had a little bit of a disagreement on the show about, uh, you know, running
a facility. So that I kind I put my two cents in and I thought that Mason is a really cool guy.
He's not really outspoken and loud.
So you don't realize how talented and smart he is.
And it's obvious that he's responsible for a lot of the course Bradley is too because
it's his brand and he started this.
But you can also see that these are two guys
that are a part of Bradley's team
that are definitely responsible for this incredible culture
that they've created around their facility.
And you can just feel the energy when you walk in.
All of us have been in, fuck, probably thousands of gyms,
for sure hundreds of gyms, not thousands,
that we've been into.
And I know right away when I walk into gym,
like the vibe, like if this is a cool place.
Exactly, cool place.
Exactly, we talked about that.
Yeah, no, and it's, it's just not from like 11 to 12.
Right, it's got a solid vibe in there when you walk in,
and you know, obviously that's the testament
to the guys that are running the facility.
So we dove into that a little bit.
We got into some really good topics, but yeah, this was a fun one again.
I enjoy talking to Brandon.
He's like, in a smart guy.
Yeah, he's into the technical stuff and me and him could go back and forth on bodybuilding
history and drug use and bodybuilding drugs and supplements and all that kind of stuff
and gut health.
I mean, just we click with them pretty well. I mean, the podcast went on for how long
was the whole podcast like three hours? Almost four. Almost. Yeah. I mean, we ate dinner
and everything. You guys came back. I remember it was really late by the time you guys came
back. Dude, when's the last time we did a four hour podcast? We don't do very many podcasts
that long. And it was just the conversation just, it flowed and it kept going.
So it must be good, I haven't listened to this yet,
but usually that's the case, right?
If you just feel like you're in the flow.
Either that or we think we're in the flow,
that's the part you, you know what I mean?
That could happen too.
Yeah, but I think we did smoke a little lead on this part.
Oh, I see it.
Maybe it was passed around.
Yeah, so you know, it's one of those moments where you're like,
oh, I came up with the most brilliant idea.
And then you look at your paper, you wrote on it.
This was so good. Yeah, and you're like Cheerios on pizza. You're like, what, I came up with the most brilliant idea. And then you look at your paper, you wrote on it. This was so good.
Yeah, and you're like, cheerios on pizza.
You're like, what the fuck?
That's not brilliant.
But anyway, it's a long podcast, so we cut it in half.
So you are going to listen to half of the podcast with us.
And the other half of the podcast is on the culture cast podcast.
So if you like this one and you wanna go check out
the rest of it because we get in all kinds of different topics,
go check out the other half at Culture Cast.
Now, you can find Bradley Martin on YouTube.
He's got like over a million subscribers,
one of the biggest YouTube channels.
His Instagram is Bradley underscore Martin spelled with a Y, and then of
course I already mentioned Culture Cast, and then they have their apparel line, right?
bmfitgear.com. That's where they sell all their apparel. Also, I do want to mention that
this month we're giving away access to our forum, our private forum for free. All you
have to do to get that is enroll in any of our maps,
bundles. Now bundles are multiple maps programs combined and put together any longer programs,
like the Super Bundle, for example. That's a year's worth of exercise programming,
and it's discounted because it's all these maps programs together. We'll discount like 30% off.
So any bundle, get free access to the forum or you can get individual programs
like if you're interested in just maximum strength
and muscle, maps and a ball, because your program,
if you're more into body building and sculpting a physique
or competing on stage, that's maps aesthetic.
If you want functional athletic performance,
that's maps performance.
If you want to work out without equipment,
that's maps anywhere, or if you want correctional
exercise, expertise, this is especially true
for those personal trainers that are listening right now.
Do the prime bundle, and of course, as I said earlier,
the bundles come with free forum access.
So without any further ado,
here's the collaboration between mind pump and culture cast.
I don't think it's as much of that as it probably is the way
he talks to people
and the way he communicates because i want to expect that because i know i
know but i mean like
you know whether he did i know he's i watch all his deadlift ship which i'm
impressed i'm not shitting on that right now at all but i think that it's
probably the way that
he communicates on on the people personal for sure we all are mean but i
think that at on the one who handles relationships in the business why i
communicate with brand and that's why i'm talking i talk to you i Talk to you. I fucking talked to over 150 people on a very regular basis
Yeah, that are major major influencers and on the relationship guy now
Nope, not a lot of people like these guys don't that's not part of their job
That's not part of the business
So they don't even have to worry and think about it
But I fucking know how much that matters and that moves the needle right and so if he's that guy
It's less about those things to me and I'm not saying that it doesn't help because it helps these a badass that matters and that moves the needle, right? And so if he's that guy,
it's less about those things to me,
and I'm not saying that it doesn't help,
because it helps these a badass, you know what I'm saying?
That gets attention, people look at him,
but if he was a douchebag and he didn't know
what to communicate correctly
and get that point across,
then he's not that as valuable as you think it is.
So that to me,
so and this is just like how I used to interview people.
I used to hire people just like you,
and you sit down across me,
and I would drill you on behavioral-based questions.
I wanna hear, I wanna learn about your character.
I don't give a shit about your PRs.
I don't give a shit about your businesses that you've done.
I don't give a shit about any of that stuff.
I wanna know what kind of person you are.
And I'm gonna ask questions that are gonna throw you
all over the fucking place,
and I'm gonna find out about his character,
and I'm gonna fish it out.
When I fish it out, and I find that out,
now I know this is the motherfucker
who can put in in place what I need in place,
which is the touch people's lives,
make them feel a special way,
and we've built that culture.
That's hard to do, but can't.
I'm not saying you can't do it.
Of course, of course.
That was talking about one aspect of this,
the cherry non aspect, but I cannot say for a second
that he's not a good communicator with people.
Absolutely, like that's why,
because I have moments where I'm a terrible fucking
communicator, horrible.
Like I let my emotions get the best.
But like, he doesn't.
So that's why he does what he does.
He's better than me at that.
Like there's no way I could do what he does.
And if I, I mean it, I'm not saying
that's alright with me, but in general,
I just know, my experience is,
I was with a big company that, you know, is big in the fitness industry that I was with a big company that is big in the fitness industry
that I was with for 10 years
and they did not handle me or Brandon.
Where was it?
Same as that too.
I won't say because he'll have a strike
from the podcast here, right?
I don't like this company.
Here, you can write it down here.
I'm just curious.
I'll write it down here.
But in general, the thing was is me and Brandon
were loyal 100,000% to this company, right?
You're blood for them.
And we blood for them.
They did.
And I've seen this shit.
And just what we got on that.
I would've guessed, by the way.
Yeah, what we got on the receiving end was,
especially on the way out, was just like,
well, from Brandon, it was like,
hey, you owe us more money.
And for me, it was just like, hey, I'm leaving,
I don't wanna leave, I wanna find a way to move up
in this company.
I have a offer from this, and it just,
it financially makes more sense with the amount of time
I'm investing here, and they were just like, okay,
and that was it.
And it was like, all right then, there's my answer.
That's poor leadership, bro.
That's everywhere.
You know, great book for that 360 leader,
because I remember going through the same thing
in my career, and I was very, like the early years,
I was very successful, but a lot of the success was like,
I had this kind of mentality where it was,
fucking run with me or get ran over,
and I'm so good that I could carry this entire facility
And I did and then and I was very successful that way for good five six years
And I sort of get burnt tired because I would burn through staff and people when I wasn't good at that piece
And then I really I that was it also the same time too
I started really reading and stuff
I started getting a leadership books and things like that and I completely switched my game and realized that you know
It's not about me. It's about this team of five ten fifteen, 15, and what it's about is looking at, and I love using sports analogies because it's just like this, it's like I'm not going to try and ask my fucking quarterback to go catch the ball, you know, I'm not want to help them be great at that. If you're worried about the other stuff. Right, and if you're somebody who's really good at that,
and that was something I pride in myself on,
is once I figured this out, it was like,
you may go off and do other jobs and be successful,
but you worked for me, you made the most money,
and you had the most fun, it was the best atmosphere
you've ever been a part of, and I pride in myself
on that ability to do that.
People that know how to do that, it's very rare to come by,
and you can feel it when you're in a place
where someone has made an impact like that. And it's really special when there's multiple people
to do that. I remember one of the most effective lessons that I learned as a manager was when I
learned that, well two things, one, be as honest and true to your staff as possible because I'll
respect you over it. 100%. And the second thing was that, you know, there's a big misconception that people show up and
work hard for the paycheck.
And it sounds like it makes sense, but the reality is that's actually not true.
In fact, some of the hardest working people you'll ever meet are people who volunteer
at, you know, for charities and stuff.
The reality is people work hard when they, when they, when they feel like they're doing
something for something that's bigger than them or, feel like they're doing something that's bigger
than them or what they're doing at the purpose is bigger than they are.
When you can paint that picture to your staff, to the people working for you and they believe
in that and they believe in you because you're honest, like brutally honest, now you've got
people who will bleed for you, but the only reason why they'll bleed for you is they know
you'll bleed for them.
Exactly. And when you get to that point, man, I had a, so I ran clubs for 24-of-fitness, and one of
the clubs I ran was in Sunnyvale.
It was a flagship club, big club, and we were hitting numbers that nobody had ever seen
him before.
And at the time, the management was just not, they weren't cool.
There was people who were not acting very, very cool, and it was very frustrating.
And at one point, they fired several general managers who were not acting very, very cool and it was very frustrating and at one point they fired
Several general managers who were good friends of mine for doing things that they had previously said wasn't that big of a deal
So out of protest I walked out of my club literally just walked out
I didn't even tell my staff. I just walked out. I get a phone call
Maybe an hour and a half later from the president and he's like you better get in back in that club right now
I'm like, what do you talk mom? I'm not going back and he goes there's nobody in the club right now
I'm like, what are you talking about? He goes you're we're gonna
We're gonna sue you because you told everybody to leave and I'm like I told nobody I didn't even tell anybody that left
Yeah, so I hang up the phone and I call my assistant manager my aGM get on the phone with them
And I'm like and he's like were you at men? I'm like, what are you guys doing?
And he goes, we all found out that you walked out
and everybody walked out.
So I went and met with them.
Everybody, the porter, the porter,
the babysitting staff, the entire staff of the gym,
all everybody walked out because they figured out
that I had walked out.
The club was, nobody was in there. People could have taken supplements, don't whatever. Nobody was in there and they walked out because they figured out that I had walked out. The club was, nobody was in there,
people could have taken supplements, done whatever.
Nobody was in there, and they walked out.
I didn't ask them to do a single thing.
And that was because of the loyalty they felt towards me,
but mainly it's because we all believed in a larger purpose.
All of us were there because we believed in each other.
We all equally wanted success.
We had each other's backs.
I was always honest to people,
if I had a staff member who's car broke down,
guess who's gonna go pick them up to bring him to work?
I was, if something happened with their kid,
who was gonna give help him out with that,
I was gonna help him, and because of that,
and also, however, I also demanded a lot,
so it wasn't like I just gave you,
I also demanded excellence, and I didn't let you slip,
because I knew you were better than that,
it was a very different conversation, and that painted an incredible picture, demanded excellence. And I didn't let you slip because I knew you were better than that.
It was a very different conversation.
Well, Mason, what was it painted?
Incredible picture and we were incredible successful.
Mason, what was it that you guys were actually disagreeing on
with this topic of opening another gym?
Are you like totally not anti doing it?
Is that true?
No, no, no, we don't disagree on anything.
It's just, you know, we disagree on all kinds of stuff.
We literally like, I mean, we disagree on a lot of things.
We live by like the Mark Cuban rule, which is like, yeah, fucking if you have a issue you feel passionate about something you fucking yell at me
Dude yeah, again you get it. Yeah, I think that's the best way to do that. Yeah, dude
I write rather that than some passive aggressive pussy shit
Where you don't say anything and you get all butt hurt and then you're all now you're a shitty employee
Oh, you should see we get we in these arguments and debates and just blah blah blah blah blah
But it's not ego like it's not like I'm gonna my goal isn't to it's not like, my goal isn't to win.
That's not being right.
Yeah, my goal isn't to win the argument.
My goal is to, let's come out and answer.
Yeah, with the right answer.
Is to see the picture.
That's it.
So sometimes, you know, sometimes he wins the arguments,
rarely, and usually, just kidding.
Most of the time.
But at the end of the day, we come out with the right answer
and I swallow my pride or he'll do the same thing,
and we come out, and we fucking succeed,
because it's about that.
It's about the larger, the bigger picture.
And that's part of the culture, I think.
That's part of the culture that you want to try and develop.
And it can be hard to find someone like that
in my experience personally.
It's easier to develop and build that and find that
in people who are less experienced
Who you know want a shot then people who come in like when trainers will come work for me or sales people come work for me
And they got shit tons of experience and I got a master's and kinesiol
It's in the way and it's like they don't it's harder to develop that versus like I had a sales guy that I
Footlocker I want to go buy tennis shoes to do with selling me my shoes. I'm like this guy can fucking sell
So I recruited him and he became one of the most outstanding sales people ever had I had a sales guy that I, foot locker, I went to go buy tennis shoes to do with selling me my shoes. I'm like, this guy can fucking sell.
So I recruited him and he became one
of the most outstanding sales people ever had
because he came in, you know, starting from there
and we built that culture, so kind of cool.
I mean, the biggest thing for me is just,
it's always come from, you know,
just the way my family was, like, you know,
just treat everybody with respect, treat everybody nicely,
you know, and just, it's literally just treat everybody how you want to be was, you know, just treat everybody with respect, treat everybody nicely, you know, and just literally just treat everybody how you want to be treated, you know, and that's-
Don't let people walk on your own. Exactly. It's like if somebody's, you know, unfair to you,
like, speak up about it, you know what I mean? So that's been the biggest thing is just-
is relaying that to the staff, and I mean, whatever I do, it's all, I mean, I put it on the staff
because they're pushing that even when I'm not here.
You know, like, I don't have many negative things coming from them,
you know, in terms of like, oh, this person's doing this,
I show them how I want things to be handled, and they just, they do it.
You know, like, you're like, pop up air in here.
Yeah, I show them, I'm like, I'm like, just the way I want you to clean a toilet,
and I'll clean a toilet. I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't,
that's a sign of a good leader, by the way. I had one member in here who was like, I saw me sweeping one day, he's like, I'm like, just the way I want you to clean a toilet and I'll clean a toilet. I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I'm not a sign of a good leader by the way.
I had one member in here who was like,
I saw me sweeping one day, he's like, oh, they didn't do it.
You gotta stop right there.
See, that's something that's powerful.
You gotta stop right there.
Yeah, no, that is something that when you open a second
and you're a third location,
you may not see somebody do.
And that's what's fucking tough, is that, that is special.
And that little tiny thing goes so fucking far.
And so by the way
you know the three seas of why people wise convenience cleanliness and then
uh cost is why people get gym memberships and then one of the number one complaints on all gym
gyms is the bit restroom and if you're making a step to do something so basically smaller but you have no
idea what an imp will you do that's why you do it but a lot of other people may overlook some shit
like that or be like oh I'm a I'm your I, I'm, you know, Bradley put me as the GM here, I don't fucking clean toilets, that's what I tell my friends.
That's a kid to do. And that's what you got to, that's what it's up.
That's a real leader. No, General McChrystal was on Articharm podcast, our good friend,
Jordan Harbinger, who now has the Jordan Harbinger show, great podcast. He interviewed General McChrystal
and he, they were talking about eating and stuff like that. And he says, you know, when you're out,
how do you get food when you're out like in Iraq
and whatever, like what happens?
He goes, oh, he goes, I barely eat.
And he goes, what do you mean?
You're the general.
And he goes, I'm not gonna walk around eating,
you know, bacon and eggs and shit like that
when my soldiers in the trenches
and they have a need for 48 hours or whatever,
because I can't leave their posts.
He goes, I'm gonna make sure they eat first before I do.
And it's like, when you hear that,
that gives you chills, man.
That's like a real leader.
And you know those motherfuckers would have died for him.
You know what I mean?
That's hard to find, but if you can build that,
there's your culture.
There's your culture right there.
Yeah, that's the guy right here.
Yeah.
It's the fucking guy.
So, I so, what are you trying to get you guys
already decided you're gonna open a second one?
Are you kind of on the fence right now?
Where are you at with that?
We're working on it
But it's it's really just making sure like everything else we have is set like just with a gym here and other projects
That we've been working on but I think we do have a really good like second. Yeah, I think I think the person is
Similar cool. I mean, you've known him for a long time. I think he's I think you remember
No, okay, no, no, no, he's not a member
But he's I mean you've known him for how many years
Probably four years now so four years. Yeah, I mean you're good friends with him
So that's awesome there, you know the similarities for sure
You also have a franchiseable model or at least what you created here is very branded yeah, so
You know, you know that you know, the whole model behind that, right?
Open three, you know, three, four locations,
show that it can be done.
It's successful, you got systems in it, franchise,
that should look, I'm assuming you would be pretty close, too, yeah.
Yeah, okay.
Yeah, I mean, and that's what we're trying to do.
I mean, that's what we're doing now.
It's basically crossing all the tees,
dotting all the eyes and trying to make it
as, you know, packageable as possible.
Yeah. And, you know, package bull as possible. Yeah.
And, you know, so that way it's that much easier
for the next person we have.
Well, you know, it does have an interesting feel
and look to it.
That's very unique that I feel like you could duplicate
somewhere else and someone could walk in and know
that it's very unique.
I mean, I'm sure that's a lot of your brilliance for sure.
I mean, you're on your cutting edge, shit, for sure,
because this place does has this look and feel that,
and we've been, I've got to have been in,
100,000 pounds from.
That's what we did for a thousand gyms.
Well, I would like to hear Mason from you,
like what you have as far as,
like what do you think is the biggest challenge
about running a place like this,
because this is a very unique gym,
because of Bradley and what's going on,
compared to anything else, dude.
No, not because.
Tell him.
Yeah.
You know, the whole like the day, the free, like the events, the stuff we do.
Yeah, I know it's got to be, I know it's got to be a different unique experience.
What is it like compared to anything else you've done?
I'll just talk about this.
So sometimes people will come in, because I'll be like, oh, everyone's coming for free, right?
And so the people who come in for free are, they probably lived in the area, they've been in the area,
but they're not members.
But like, I'll see them every time we have,
oh, it's free.
They come in every time.
But they're not coming in the other times, right?
So, and I'm not, there's nothing wrong with these people.
I appreciate them all, right?
Cause they're showing love, right?
They want to come experience it, they want to enjoy it.
But they tend to be a little bit more careless.
Yeah.
So those are the days where you're like, it's cool because you see the, you see all the
people and then, but then it's like they just don't, they don't, they don't, maybe it's
because they're not a part of the culture.
So they're just like, this is what I'm used to.
They're the way to believe it.
Yeah.
And I think that's really what it is.
Do you really want to probably one of the,
the, the challenges?
That's, that's, that's, that's one of my biggest things and that's, that comes from
the old gym we used to, we used to train at where we had a feel and we had a certain
Because we were always the same guys. Yeah, we might put 10 plates on a leg press
We're gonna put every single one of those plates back in the exact shot every time
So you know, what maybe what you do is you tell your current members hey Friday is an open free gym day
Yeah, if you guys can help us out if you see somebody fucking with our shit that are you members will be
Gainster about it.
I have no problem doing it.
Tell them what you do.
Tell them what you do.
So this actually came from actually one of the guys.
It was like the second time and I was like, look man, I told them once and then I saw
he had left it out again.
So I DMed him.
I said, hey man, I don't know because he doesn't come in all that often but he's a member. And I said, look, I don't know what because he doesn't come in all that often, but he's a member.
And I said, look, I don't know what I'm seeing again,
but this is becoming an issue.
I just wanna let you know, you left your stuff out.
It was this, I took a screenshot of the cameras
when he was on it, when he left it,
the time stamps and everything.
And I said, I'm just letting you know.
And he was like, dude, I apologize.
Very nice about it.
And he was like, hey, because I even said,
I said, okay, this is becoming an issue at my gym.
I'm not gonna stand for it anymore.
I'm gonna start putting you guys on blast
on my Instagram story.
And he was like, you don't want to do that.
And he was like, look, I want you to uphold your promise.
And, you know, because I was like,
he probably wouldn't be that happy about it.
He was like, I want you to uphold your promise.
He's like, I owe you guys a box of donuts.
He's like, I just think it's a good idea.
If you start blasting people like that out,
and so now that's kind of what you do.
So like, that's powerful.
So we'll put on our story.
We'll put, I'll put your name, you know,
even my staff will do it, and we'll put a vote.
Pizza or Donuts or just cooking, anything,
and people bring them in.
You know, and it makes a fun thing.
That's fucking brilliant good. It is brilliant
That is brilliant. I have never said I mean
Well this is a social media and this is a story
Right, because it's so, I mean, let me tell you, the way I handle that exact same problem
I had to deal with that, I was about 25 or so's before fucking Instagram
You couldn't do that
So that's brilliant, maybe I would have thought that's I think it's a really great idea
But what I did, I was so fucking frustrated by my members and I'm like, this is my fucking gym,
I control it, sure that my name's not on the front
and that's not really my,
but I took ownership of it like that.
And I had like the messiest weight room.
And everyone just, all the guys before me,
which is accepted because it's on the fucking east side.
It's kind of, it's on east side.
And so it's the ghetto side.
So we just kind of let a fucking go.
I'm like, no, I'm a fuck dad, this is my place
and I'm gonna change this place.
And so I remember primetime hours, which those I don't don't know that it's like 5 p.m. Right?
So it turns the music off. Yeah, bro
I walked over with yellow caution tape and I'm loud. Oh, you swear to God. So I told everybody get out everybody get out
I'm taping it off and then I got my staff and we we racked every single way and I let the members
They all had to stand and watch us,
watch us put every way together and I said,
listen, you guys need to start holding each other accountable.
If someone leaves someone on that, you do that.
I won't ever do this again.
My fucking weight room is.
Because at the end of the day, it's pissing everyone off.
Right, everyone's looking down the road.
Who is the motherfucker, man?
I'm just my chest pump right now
because I'm gonna kill him.
And so it created this culture now
where if someone
left to wait on, three people would be heading over there
that are members that will let him know like,
hey, you don't leave that shit on there
and shut down the fucking gym.
So here's the thing with that, right?
So this is human behavior.
New York City, for example,
used to be just riddled with crime or whatever.
Then they adopted a policy where they said,
we are gonna fix every broken window,
we're not gonna have anything like,
even the small things out of place,
because what happens is,
when people are in a space or whatever,
and one person breaks a little rule,
and nobody says anything,
then it starts to cascade and it becomes this big thing.
So one of the best things you could do
is be fucking a hardcore about it.
One dumbbell out of place, no.
Because the second people walk in
and see a little bit of out of order,
they just keep adding, keep adding.
I walked in that same gym like two or three years later
because I just happened to be on that side of town.
And I literally walked around and walked back out
because every, I've never seen this a gym
until at least over this one time, walked in.
Was this capital still?
Yeah.
Every single dumbbell was off the rack, dude.
Chances.
Damn.
It's horrible. I'm like that.
I literally just turned right back and
walked out my this is fucking insane.
And that just, and that is a reflection
of the leadership within that facility.
Oh yeah, I mean, and that's another thing
with the facility that we used to train at,
is I mean, it wasn't the like people mad doggy.
It was a 25-year fitness.
But at the same time, while we were there,
at least our areas were clean.
And I actually just got a message from one of my buddies
who moved out of town and then he came back
and he was just like, he's like, you should see that place.
I was like, no, I know.
It's probably worse now, but I remember just going in there
and I'm like, the fuck happened in this place?
Like, that gym was brand new.
It was one of the first gyms I signed up when I was 17, 16.
It was a brand new gym, you know,
my sophomore year or junior year of high school.
And since then, it's just, it's a pilot.
I have one question.
Does Tio still work there?
I think so.
Oh my fucking, no.
Trollens?
No, no.
It's got name Tio.
It's a long story.
Oh, he's like one first.
He's training.
Literally since I was there,
which would have been 10 fucking 15, well for me.
Yeah, he was there even then. Yeah
Most old gyms have got that one guy right that one guy's been around. I have a similar story to when you went into a gym and yelled
Oh, yeah, I wasn't about putting the weights back on the phone someone stole my phone
So someone stole my phone. Okay, I'll just tell sorry real briefly. No, no, no, no, no, fuck no people don't steal shit
At Gold gym North Hollywood, okay, I had my had my headphones on Bluetooth, right? no, no, fuck no people don't still say that I wouldn't give it even do that here at Golds gym North Hollywood
Okay, I had my I had my headphones on Bluetooth, right? Oh, it's great
So it goes like it goes like it's like I fell lost or whatever right and I was like I fell lost
Like what because I had put it I did curls and I had put on top of one of the curl racks
And I think I turn and start doing chess or something like to my left. Oh, so you actually knew where it was at least
Yeah, okay, so you actually knew where it was at least. Yeah, okay.
So I put it, I'm like doing my chess and I sit up
and I hear it go like, you know, just connected.
I was like, what the fuck?
So I'm like, what the fuck?
And I'm tripping because this time,
my whole life is the phone.
It still is like all my Instagram, social media stuff.
It's all there.
So like, instantly I'm like, fight or flight.
I run straight to the front of the gym. There's only one entrance and one exit. The top of my lungs, I'm like, instantly I'm like, fight or flight. I run straight to the front of the gym.
There's only one entrance and one exit.
The top of my lungs, I'm like,
someone stole my fucking phone.
And I'm like, this lab, I'm like, fucking, I'm like,
I'm like, 265 pumped up, like,
and we probably like, my blood pressure was super high,
I'm mad as hell.
Someone stole my fucking phone.
I'm checking everyone, like, everyone on the way up.
So at the time, I was filming for my YouTube channel.
So I guess what happened was Kevin, who's my video guy.
The guy came up to him, on the loan was like,
I took the phone, I didn't know it was Brad Lee's.
I'm really sorry, I just wanna give it back to him.
And then I ended up getting the phone back.
And everyone's like, I just remember people looking at me,
you're the fucking crazy guy.
And it was funny, because I actually went back up to that kid later on. And I went to him and I wasn's like, I just remember people looking at me like, you're the fucking crazy guy. And it was funny because I actually went back up
to that kid later on.
Yeah.
And I went to him and I wasn't like, you know, I'm gonna beat you up.
I was like, I just said basically, like,
because I love that gym because I've been there for so long.
I was like, I expect this at like 24 hour fitness,
but like, I've been going here for so long
and like, I guess I just didn't expect it.
And it just sucks.
I'm like, you wouldn't want this happening.
And I was super nice to the guy.
And he's like, yeah, you're right, you're right.
But I remember like, just that, I was happening. You and I was super nice to the guy. He's like, yeah, you're right, you're right. But I remember like, just that,
I was so angry dude, I was so mad.
And with that moment, like, it's funny
because I remember people laughing like,
you're fucking crazy.
But I got my phone back.
Right, right.
Sorry.
And I was fucking happy dude.
And let's be honest, if you didn't do that,
I can't think of another way you might know.
No, because I got actually,
I got Jack's like that, playing basketball,
and which same feeling I had too
is a gym that I was like born and raised in.
You're like really?
Right, yeah, and you know, so you know,
it's just, you bring your sneakers with you,
you put your, you flip them out,
you throw your phone, your keys right there
and you play ball for hours,
like I don't check to make sure my phone's there,
like it's just as trust, you know,
fuck, bro, somebody took in, I'm like,
man, this is really shit, it's gotten to here.
But again, it's like, and that,
it's crazy how that belief, that culture that started with the leadership
and the people that are running it,
the people that are standing bleeds into the members
and then the actual members actually,
you train them to be that way.
That's acceptable.
And that's he's doing that.
He's for sure doing that.
I had done that thing before as well.
Like I put, I was like, all right,
I've done this too much tonight.
There's too much regulars in here.
Put the music on pause. I said your mom's gonna fucking work here. Yeah, no way, I've done this too much tonight. There's too much regulars in here. Put the music on pause.
And I said, your mom's gonna fucking work here.
Yeah, no way.
I said, pick up after yourself.
And then I play the music.
And then one time one of the members was like Ben Sheen
and he like dropped the weight.
He didn't have clips.
I was there when this happened.
And he's like, he turned the music out.
He's like, put fucking clips on the bar.
I love that shit.
That was great, dude. I think. And I'll be honest, at first I was like, I don't know if. That's a good idea. I love that shit. That was great, dude.
And I'll be honest, at first I was like, I don't know if...
That's a good idea.
We should do that.
No, no, basically.
But like, he is killing it.
So I'm like, you know what you're doing?
No.
Because it comes back to you.
It's like it's your house, man.
This motherfucker can communicate, communicate well.
That's what it comes down to.
It's because I don't do that that often.
It takes a lot for me to get there.
And it's like, if I have to get there,
then I think there's a message that's being sent off.
No, because 99 times out of 100,
I'm gonna shake your hand, I'm gonna say.
Dude, thank you, I'm gonna say, you know,
that's what gives it power.
That's exactly what gives it power.
If you were some asshole who write,
and on the show, I'm very passionate the way I speak,
but outside when the mics turn off,
I'm like one of the most compassionate people
and soft-spoken just talking to him, but I can turn it on and the mics turn off, I'm like one of the most compassionate people and soft-spoken, just talking to them,
but I can turn it on, and I turn it on when I need to.
So we're on a show, obviously there's a reason
when I turn it on, it comes off better that way
when you're listening to it,
but when I'm out in public, I'm a really nice easy guy,
but when there's something I feel very strongly about,
I'm the first motherfucker to say something,
and I got no problem saying it loud,
and when you do it like that,
where you have to honor yourself.
You're like me, dude. The People are respected, because like fuck,
he's a really good dude.
Someone must have pissed him off, dude.
He does it like that.
I got jumped so many times as a kid,
because that's a big mouth.
But you gotta say, you have to speak up, man,
because otherwise, what are you worth?
You know what I'm saying?
You gotta say something.
You can't be afraid.
And that's the biggest thing in the beginning was,
you know, when you're trying to set the tone here,
and you know, I just don't want people
to take an advantage, because you know, he always makes it, you know, point like, I set the tone here. And, you know, I just don't want people to take an advantage. Because, you know, he, he, he always makes it, you know,
point like, I don't want people to take an advantage of me.
And I told him last week, I was like, look,
says, as much as you don't want to be taking advantage of,
my time is very important to me.
I moved here from Orange County.
I don't want anybody taking advantage of my time here.
Because, you know, just like I don't want anybody
taking advantage of you.
All right.
So, this doesn't, it's not just on you.
It's also, you know, we're all in this together, 10 year friendship. I don't want anybody taking advantage of you. It's not just on units also.
We're all in this together, 10-year friendship.
I don't want anybody taking advantage of bringing in
or Brad because I love them both.
More than just friends, it's a family thing.
Have you guys thought about, for example,
because it sounds like these events can be kind of challenging
where you squirt in people with probably water guns,
you get like a thousand kids in here
that are probably disrespectful and stuff?
Is it something that maybe you scale back
or that it doesn't pay off as well?
First off, I just wanna say they were nerf guns
because if it was wild, I'd fuck a lose my mind.
Fucking crazy, because I actually wiped all the equipment
and shit didn't arrest that the fucking problem.
I have a story for that by the way.
Oh no.
So I mean, have you had, is that,
is, you know, have you thought about that?
Like, you know, I know your heart,
that's the reason why you do it, you know.
So, but sometimes it's more trouble than not.
Right, so Mason had told me, he communicated this,
this problem with me.
So next time, and I try to make this a point,
if I do it again, I'll be like,
if you, like it's free, make a point,
fucking clean up after yourself.
I'll say it.
Oh yeah.
So that'll make a difference.
And so I'll be running around being like,
hey, right, that, yeah.
And a lot of times, times to like there are people though
I just want to say that there are people who do come who are so they go above and beyond to help that like
This guy brought me a gun that I can use that day that was like the coolest gun ever that I took on my pictures with and he cleaned up
Everything yeah, he did it himself
So like there so there are people who come and they're just like, they go to a Bumbion because they care so much about this
and about what we're doing,
that they go, they just put their sauce out there.
So like, just like I'm saying, there's people who like,
oh, fuck it, they'll done well there, I don't care.
I'm used to this.
There are people who go and be a Bumbion.
Do you guys have to do a lot of like marketing and promote,
like going out to try and get new sales and prospects
or is it because now the word of mouth
is so good that people tend to walk in and then-
I think that's what it is now.
Because we did it in this, obviously.
I was like, and I got all the fitness people,
who knew people following fitness,
but then once people started coming,
I think at least locally, they're like,
oh, that's that gym, you know, I was here in a minute.
I was gonna get an invite to that party.
Yeah, I don't know, I'm fucking guy.
There, I think I saw it blocked by this.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
Oh, I fucking love you guys.
Look, we can open up more gyms in.
Oh, you guys are like, can open up more gyms in oh
It's funny. We know
Not a lot of some numbers man, but we know you know you can tell you what I'll tell you what you open a gym
And you want a couple guys to come in there and just blow that shit out for like three days then maybe
Yeah, yeah, I would love to do it. We'll do it. Just I'll compete with each other
I would do it just for you fun. I would I hear so here's a cool thing that we did you guys would like this when Tom I was I'll give you the other. I'll do it just for you. It's fun. I hear some cool things that we did. You guys would like this when I was giving the
score gun story, right?
So the way the score gun game that we had played was,
so we used to have these huge blowout closeouts.
And I don't know if you guys structure that now,
where you try to have huge sales days,
sell days or whatever, but we used to have these massive days.
And so I took all my staff and we had,
I bought like 10 different levels of score cuts and you had like the
little pu-pu little tiny little tiny one that was the small one then the size up and the
size up and eventually like the supersoaker and each gun represented a thousand dollars
in revenue that you drove that day.
And so and the rules of this game was all day long we're fucking working bell to bell
and you cannot squirt somebody with a bigger gun than you.
So you can squirt people that don't have a gun, or the same size gun as you, but you can't
squirt somebody unless they have a smaller gun, right?
So I mean, it was unreal.
Competition, probably.
But then by the end, this is no joke.
I mean, members, you'd have six desks going sales presentation, 40-year-old woman trying
to come in some old dude, some young cat in there, and trainers and sales guys squirting each other and shooting the members in the
face, but it was so dope, something that we could never do now, like that you could never
do that now.
HR would just have this was before HR existed in this billion-dollar company, right?
So this was so crazy, we could do this, but it was so rad to see, like, just people
think, no one tried to sue us us nobody tried to be dicks about it
If people got scored in the face. I have DJs I just have live DJs
I would do closeouts and have a live DJ come to the gym set up a set in the middle of the gym and spin music
No one of the people loved it. There's a gym like that in the UK that does it every time like for the body power
Oh, I'm the best environments. I've ever done it. Oh, dude. Oh, dude. And I want to do stuff
I was gonna say we should you get a live DJ in here. Oh my god. Oh, dude. And I want to do stuff like that. Yeah, absolutely. You get a live DJ in here.
Oh my God.
People fucking lose their mind.
It's amazing.
You know, that was part of why we had a bad taste in our mouth
because it started to become so corporate where we were at
that we lost that freedom.
We were there before.
I was there before HR existed.
So we had the flexibility to do anything.
I mean, we had to close us with those kegs in the back.
Like, people would be like, go on back and take it.
Take it drinks and stuff.
Oh, yeah.
You were still breaking the rule of the government.
But I mean, my point is that
it, and I'm not, I wouldn't do that now. I can don't that. But the point is, we got to
the point where we put so much restrictions on what we couldn't do or we were offending
somebody if we did that. It's like, man, you guys take a fucking fun at him. And that,
and that, what they don't realize is that that's, well, they stopped focusing on the people
that ran the clubs and they started focusing more on the you know if
we set the prices like this it'll just work and if this is how we're attracting people
is like no no no you need to focus the staff is what drives the gym that is what creates
the culture that's what drives the sales it's not all the other shit that you think is important
in reality it's the team it's the staff that's the most important thing by far I used to walk
into gyms and I double or triple the revenue within
a week. I didn't have more advertising and I have a different staff, same staff, it just
changed the culture of the gym. Next thing you know, it should start going off when we
start killing it.
Yeah, I mean, we have the same staff that we started with.
Oh, that's cool.
You know, which makes me happy because, you know, they've been right out of the Dyson
Day one pretty much, you know, so I can message them about like, hey, what's going on with
this and, you know, almost get an answer right away.
Now, we're a lot of them like fans of you
and where they, I mean, how do,
or they just random people that you thought
like, good character and would be where you have a job.
I would say about, let's see, three or four of them
were previous employees of Brandon's.
So, so that definitely helped.
Everyone's like,
I had loyalty to him or I was like,
loyalty to Brandon, I was like, okay,
they're obviously they're good.
Yeah. And then how those people,
some of those people tied in because of, you know,
friends of friends, you know, stuff like that.
Could do.
Yeah, I don't want for sure.
I worked at the gym that I was talking about
that I knew him for a long time.
And I was like, I can't tell him,
I'm gonna go to the gym, I'm gonna go to the gym.
He was like, he's like, fuck it, let me know.
I'm trying to, try to work in here.
What's your price point here?
Are you guys, you guys are probably more expensive
than the typical big box thing, right?
And less than that, like.
Not by much.
Yeah, not by much.
53.
That's not bad, really.
No initiation.
No initiation.
It's just not a month.
Really?
Yeah, and it's a $15 day pass.
That's a steal.
Because normal day passes are $25.
Like anywhere around your early thing is $24.
And if you cancel, you cancel.
I'm not gonna be like, well, that's another $30
just to cancel.
If you can, because I got it, you fucking don't.
Because I got a push button on my computer,
like fuck that.
And then on top of that, we always tell people,
like I always tell people, you know,
for one, if it's a day pass, it's a whole day.
I'm not gonna charge you for a pondry entry.
We'll just find your signature on the paper, cool,
you paid, you know, I always tell people,
because people come out to see him sometimes, they might miss him. I'm like, he's probably gonna be back in the evening. I'll the paper cool you paid you know, I always tell people because people come out to see him
Sometimes they might miss him. I'm like he's probably gonna be back in the evening. I'll tell him like you know
There's place to eat over here go grab some eat come back. You can train again
Most people are like oh for real and they'll they'll come and work out again later
Dude you guys are doing great because usually clubs or they give him like two years before they start to turn
You know, yeah, that's that's. You get a massive funnel feeding this thing.
You probably got that plus a good environment
everything. Right.
People are really passionate.
That's fucking great.
Most of the time, people are like, oh, you know, is it a
free day pass? I'm like, it's $15.
And I'll tell them, like, the majority of the time I can tell by the
person, I'm like, you're going to get in here, you're going to try this
shit, you're going to like it, and you're going to like the environment,
you're going to like the music, and you're going to sign up.
You know what I mean? So I already know that's the marketing behind it is it's like, and I'll tell them like you
I'll give you your 15 bucks back, you know when you sign up or we'll just apply it towards you at your month
You guys your personal training and stuff like that in here too? We've independent trainers
Okay, so they do a fee and then they train their clients. Yeah, how many of them you got in here now?
I think we got just around 10 right now
That's fucking good. Any challenges with that yet, because that can sometimes be challenging, because they're
not exactly your people, they're contracted to you.
No problems really.
No, no, and that's the thing is, I mean, we kind of been somewhat, you know, a little selective
with it.
Yeah.
And, you know, some of them are, you know, friends of the other trainers and stuff like
that.
But yeah, it's definitely something we keep an eye on, you know, if I was still training
and this is 100% gym,
I'd wanna work out for sure,
especially because I'd be able to be private.
Oh yeah, I'm sure you get a ton of time.
I, you know what I've always wanted to, Bradley,
about you being in here all the time is like,
you never get to the point sometimes
where you just have people that want your attention
and your time and you just can't get away
and just kinda be at work or do your own thing or you, yeah.
That's one of my biggest challenges.
Yeah.
I knew that was going to happen.
Like Mark Bellig, he's like, oh, it's going to be, he's like, you think it's hard now?
Cause like, I would just go to gyms and like 24 any gym.
They'd be like, you're that guy, not everyone.
But people come up and like, this makes some photos and pulled me away from my workout.
And that's fine.
Sure.
But in here, I have to make sure that I always kind of let it happen.
Cause you're representing a serious man. Yeah. And it's been hard to be honest, man. Like I haven't.
I bet you probably have to not work out here sometimes just because.
Yeah. I mean, I haven't been on my best because like I'll be in here and I'll kind of all let myself get pulled away.
Because I'm very like one thing. Sure.
One or the other. Yeah. I couldn't be like in here and here at the same time.
So it's definitely been challenging.
I think I'm, I think I'm honestly, man, I just started going
with therapy and I'm doing a lot of things different in my life and I'm trying to be
better at it. What are you learning right now? About myself? Yeah, yeah. I'd love to hear
that. Oh, shit. It's making me kind of emotional. Oh, shit. Oh, so why is it always happening
to me? Oh, I'm hanging out with me. I wasn't terribly in my whole life for all of a sudden.
But I mean, just to...
I told him because we have this conversation last week,
and I told him, you know, because we had...
I don't know if you guys have had an Andy Stump.
No, say Andy Stump's fucking dull.
Just badass Navy SEAL.
You know, he does one of those wing suits,
but Red Bullets.
Like, he jumps off and we get...
Oh, yeah, yeah, he just...
Monster. But anyway, like, he just mentioned
something about like, you know,
he does, he does, you know, big,
like, you know, seminars and stuff
and he talks to fortune 100 companies
and firefighters and he's like,
these guys know how to be brave,
these guys know how to make a billion dollars.
He's like, sometimes it's just the way
I have to put it in a perspective
for them to, for it to click in their minds.
You know, I told him that.
I said, I don't think this is anything on you.
I said because I told him, I was like, you know, me,
I can usually separate myself in terms of like,
what's going on, how I'm emotionally feeling
and be like, A attaches to B, B attaches to C.
What do you mean on you?
What are you ashamed about that?
Because I told him, I said, you know, this is something,
I told him I said there's been a point
because I heard Andy where I was like,
I might need some help, you know what I mean?
Well, let me tell you something,
I think it's so funny when people, it's,
dude, it's not a big fucking deal.
In fact, you're already a step ahead of somebody,
just everyone fucked up.
Just because you said I'm gonna go there.
Everybody is fucked up.
Everybody is 99% of the people that are listening right now
I'm gonna fuck here you piss a bunch of people off are driven by their insecurities. Oh, yeah
No, and a lot of them are rooted all the way to childhood. So I'm just curious what you're learning
So it is about childhood. It's about like I'm so used to shit kind of like getting fucked up
They're like oh fuck that you sell sabotage. Yeah, yeah, I know
fuck Fuck that you sell sabotage. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. Fuck.
But take your time, bro.
It's okay.
Now, I think, I mean, here's the thing,
this is where this was so dope about,
this is how therapeutic it is,
because when you start diving into this shit
and you start unpacking it,
then you're two steps ahead of it the next time,
because it's bound, shit, it's gonna trigger you,
right, shit, well, true you.
Yeah, so like basically I'll take a situation,
and I'll be like like the worst is gonna happen
That was oh it because I'm like I'm used like I'm used to like the fucking worst
So I'll just be like the worst is gonna happen and it could be something small and I notice like though
There'll be times when like I'm just by myself and I'll just picture situation
And I'll picture things and like literally like it could be the simplest thing
But I'm like I'll take it to like the hundredth level of like what happen to me, or someone that I love, or someone that,
and this could be a thing, and it's living in my head with it.
I'm like, what the fuck is going on?
So I'm trying to learn how to just be more at ease,
like just let shit go.
Like just like, it sounds silly, but relax more.
I overthink so much.
Are you putting together the things that trigger this?
Are you putting together what together the things that trigger this? Are you putting together like,
what are the things that trigger this self-sabotaging
or overthinking and over-analysing stuff?
Do you know what's just fear?
It's just fear, dude.
It's like, I feel like I'm gonna lose it all.
Like I feel like I'm gonna lose what I've worked for,
what I've built, what matters to me
and the people that I care about,
like the ability to help,
because I'm in a position in my life where like,
you know, I pay salaries for certain people's who like,
mean a lot to me, Mason, Brandon, people in my life who like,
and like, there's so much internal like,
pressure.
Yeah, and I'm like, fuck, like if I fuck up, we're all fucked.
And I know that like at the end of the day,
Mason can figure out his life and he'll figure out
what he needs to do no matter what.
But I feel a lot of internal pressure to be like,
I need to make sure this is what I want it to be
so we can all win.
And because, oh fuck.
Because like the family aspect of it,
because I think I've always,
since I grew up without a father,
I always kinda like long for that,
like that brotherly, that fatherly figure.
I have a brother, we were distant, we've been distant.
But like in friends and people who like,
I've divided in, like brands are the guy
who I'm talking to and like, I think I'm gonna die
like when I have anxiety attacks,
that I feel so connected, I want so much for these people
because they've been so much of my life.
So I have, there's so much around that.
We're like, now I'm noticing,
because I open the gym and they're a part of it,
that it's even more intensified
and it's a little bit more like emotional.
Because I wouldn't be who I am,
and I said this before when I started this podcast
without these people who have been in my life,
without anyone who's been in my life,
and the conversations I've had,
even the moments I'm having with you guys
about life and who we are and what matters,
and it's all shaping.
And just you guys listening,
everything you're listening to, it's shaping. Every the thoughts everything that goes your head is shaping who you are
So I I have a hard time letting go of certain things and I have a hard time just being like at ease
And I tend to think like the worst case and I'm working through being like it's gonna be okay
And like I have to kind of just like set that different type of tone in my brain like
When it starts to happen be be like, it's okay.
And I noticed this worked for me, but even before I went to therapy,
or started going to therapy, was when the road rage thing, I used to be like,
man, fuck, it's so easy to remind.
And then I personally was like, I need to stop this because it's insane,
because I would follow people where I go, like, get out of my car and try and punch a biker,
some stupid shit that I did.
And I was like, this is way too far.
Personally, I was like, this is way too far.
Personally, I was like, I need to stop.
So every time I feel like coming,
I'd be like, I would literally just talk to myself
and be like, relax, it's not that serious.
So I need to develop that same like pause
with other things like with like communication and stuff
when I get like, I get fucking,
I get passionate about what I'm talking about.
And maybe because it's like,
I need to make my point and like,
something's not going to be done, and I'm very upset or whatever. And it's like, I need to make my point and like something's not going to be done, I'm very upset or whatever,
and it's like, but it doesn't have to be that emotional. But I let the emotion like,
it's because things matter to you. Yeah. But that's a good thing. That's good. That's not a bad thing.
You're passionate. You're passionate. You're also have, you're very similar to me as your story.
It's crazy how similar we are, even to the fact that you're talking about. So, I'm closer to
my two best friends and their family and their moms than I am my own because I because I had so much shit growing up
Just like you father committed suicide. I I attached myself to other families that were more, you know
Normal and I got very very close to them
So and this is this was something I had to work through when I got into this relationship that I'm in right now because my, my girl Katrina, who's like my wife, we've
been together for seven years, she's the opposite. Her family, they're so close, bro, that
any decision that gets made, she, they all get together in the family. I've, I don't,
I've never experienced that. And the closest thing to that is like my brothers, like my,
my boys. And so, and I've always been the leader of the group. And I've always felt
so responsible
about their success and those things but here's what it took me years to break through in this.
Once I realize that if they because my family I'm closer then than I'm my own family so holidays
on there like you said like life or death thing I'm calling my boys or their moms before I even
reach out to my own family because of that but But sooner or later, you're gonna realize that
if they are like your family to you,
then they'll be your family no matter what.
No matter if they lose their job,
if everyone goes broke, if you become an asshole,
that's part of the issue.
That's part of the issue.
The thing that I'm working to is that
that's what you think about your father, right?
You think your father's gonna be that,
but he's not, he wasn't from me.
Right, right.
So that's part of my experience is that's not true. Exactly. So my ex, but I'm be that, but he's not, he wasn't from me. Right, right, right. So that's part of my area. So my area is that's not true.
Exactly, so my ex, but I'm trying to,
I'm trying to, and I know this,
like I know that it wasn't like my decision,
or my fault, like he made that decision.
I can't, it's, it, to separate it though,
even though I know I need to separate it.
Sure, sure, sure, sure.
It's so hard to separate that.
That's because, and the truth is,
some people are like that, and some people are not.
And that's the thing that, you know,
it's hard to understand is that
everybody's not, you know, one way.
Everybody's not the person that's gonna abandon you.
Some people are and some people are gonna be the people
that are gonna stick next to you.
And at the end of the day, you gotta go with your heart
and you know, just the way you've talked about your boys
is they're not like that.
They're not like the person who left and took their life
or whatever, they're the people that are gonna stay around here.
But this is literally what I'm talking to the therapist about.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm working on it.
I really do.
And the other thing too is, first off, high intelligence
is really strongly correlated with anxiety.
So people who tend to be really smart
tend to overthink the fuck out of things.
So it's almost like you're smart,
but then you gotta deal with all this other overthinking shit.
You have to be stroked your audience off now.
You see what I'm gonna do?
You got that?
Yeah.
Fine, I'll have mine pumped.
Yeah.
But the other guys are great.
Fine, I'm for sure.
Thank you.
The other thing too though is,
you know, here's an interesting game
that I learned how to play while I was going through my divorce
because I got divorced after 15 years of marriage
and I come from very traditional family.
I'm very, very family-oriented.
So breaking that apart was just absolutely devastating.
And then I met this amazing girl
and she's been very helpful with me.
And she told me, she said, try this.
Because what I used to do is I would think
worst case scenario all the time.
And then I'd freak out and then I'd say,
OK, think best case scenario.
That won't happen.
That won't happen.
Think best case scenario.
And she said, no, no, no.
She was try this exercise just first second in the
safety of whatever you're at home or whatever imagine that the worst case
scenario can happen and it does happen now think about that and think about how
you're gonna be okay at the end of that how you're gonna survive that be okay
with the worst case scenario and you'll no longer be afraid it was fucking mind
blowing like instantly I thought about I'm gonna lose my house I'm not gonna worst case scenario and you'll no longer be afraid. It was fucking mind blowing.
Like instantly I thought about, I'm gonna lose my house.
I'm not gonna be able to see my kids as all of a sudden.
Wait, who said this to me?
Who said the same exact shit you're saying to me?
I swear to God, I think it was branded.
Like three days ago.
Oh, awesome.
You're basically branded in another dimension.
I told you to, I'm fucking saying.
I told you that was fucking crazy.
I told you.
Wait, I swear it was, yeah.
Yeah.
Well, I'll ask him later.
But I mean, holy shit.
It works.
This might have been the conversation we had in the kitchen
that one time.
Where's me, you and me, you and him.
This, no, but literally, like what you just said,
like almost word for word about being okay with the worst.
Like, imagine if it was just all gone.
Right.
Would you be okay?
Yep. And how do you handle that? Yeah. And how you handle that.
And then you have to play that all the way out in this situation
that it probably actually causes anxiety for you.
Like what if you did lose everything and then what if your
boys all said, fuck you?
You lost your job. Then if you really think about that, then you're
better off anyways, because they really weren't there for you.
They didn't love you. They were there just because you were
providing a job for them. And so fuck them. You know what I'm
saying? But they wouldn't do that, you know what I'm saying?
But they wouldn't do that, you know what I'm saying?
But you play that in your mind that like, okay.
I'm just saying, I lose everything.
Everybody loses everything.
They're all mad at me and they hate me.
And they all then they're like, fuck off, right?
It's like, okay, well then they really didn't love me.
Care about me, but that's, yeah.
That's it, yeah, no, I went through that.
I had a family member that had cancer, terminal cancer,
and that made me super paranoid at one point. I thought, oh, something was wrong with me or whatever. And I went down that path like, no, I went through that, I had a family member that had cancer, terminal cancer, and that made me super paranoid at one point, I thought, oh, something was wrong with me
or whatever.
And I went down that path, like, okay, what if something did happen to me, then what would
I do with that?
And I became okay with it, and it's weird, man, when you get to that point, it's not
easy, by the way, but when you do, you start to feel invincible, because you're like,
worst case scenario, I know I can handle that, I've done that in my mind, I've gone through
that process, now let's see what happens with, you know, with little bit of life, which usually is,
here's a deal.
If you, if every single day, you aim to be just a fraction, an incremental fraction better
than yesterday.
That's it.
Amen, man.
Just a tiny, tiny, let me show you something interesting.
If you have two lines that are almost parallel, but one is slightly to the right, just the
slightest bit, one degree to the right.
If you follow those lines for miles and miles and miles
and miles, completely diverge in completely
different directions.
So if you try to be just an incremental,
just a fraction better.
And that should have been representation.
Absolutely.
Just a fraction better every single day.
And how do you do that?
People are like, well, what do you mean?
How do you do that?
Do you mind if I use that in YouTube video use that in YouTube before I'll quote you though
I appreciate it. Okay. I was fucking awesome. I would love that
So but yeah, if you and your people ask like how do you do that? Like what do you mean by that?
And I say okay, well here's what you do
Every day you're you're you're faced with decisions and every day those decisions
There is the inner voice that tells you do this and then there's the other side that's like
Ab it this is easier and this is expedient,
and whatever.
And we all make those decisions every day.
Always try to choose the one that inner voice tells you
is the right decision.
That's all, just do that,
because that more often than not will result
in a better outcome.
Maybe not every time, but for the most part,
that divergence will happen,
and you'll find that holy shit things are working out better for me. Oh my god my business is deceiving more
I have better relationships. I'm not as angry all the time. I feel better. I'm more relaxed and it's fucking weird
Part of that part of that radical honesty we were talking about earlier
It's who's being radically honest with yourself. Oh, bro. That's the hardest right there
Most people are just not truthful himself
You're putting on a whole façade and putting a front up when in reality
they didn't really like them.
And I think that's the first step is you can't be
really real to others until you're real to yourself.
No, if you're wearing a costume
and you're pretending to be something else,
then that's the ultimate.
Like you're the ultimate person
you have to be honest to yourself.
So sometimes I mean you gotta tell yourself
like I'm over this or sometimes you gotta tell yourself
like this relation is not working for me. You know, I've had friends who I still hold very dear to my
heart, people who I value very much, but I just out grew them. I grew to a
different point like, you know, I had friends that I connected over like we
party together and that crazy together. And then I got to a point in my life
where I'm like I'm I'm kind of over that, but that's how we bond it. And so like
what do I do? Do I go party with them just so I can try to bond with them
or because I'm beyond that, like, what do I do now?
So I still respect and honor these people
and they're still valuable people to me.
I just don't really hang out with them anymore.
And that was tough.
That was tough because, you know, you don't want to like
betray that or whatever, but in reality,
yourself is the most important person.
When you do that, man, shit starts to work out.
It's really crazy.
Yeah, and I think it's so important to make that point
that for yourself is the most important
thing because truthfully like you can't help make other people better or change other
people like all you can really do is be like an image of what someone else could look at
and be like oh I want to be more like that because you know everyone's like oh I wish someone
would change you would change you'd be different like good relationships is like I wish you
would do these things different be more like this and it's like you could just be a better
person and this is something I started to learn more in the fitness industry too is like, I wish you would do these things different, be more like this. And it's like, you could just be a better person.
And this is something I started to learn more
in this fitness industry too, is like, just be like,
what I, what if I wanted to be a certain way?
Like you guys talking about just being fucking honest,
then just do that.
And don't expect everyone else to do it.
But like you'll see that people will start to catch on
and what starts to work and what, but,
so bigger than that, like in your life with people around you,
if you're like constantly concerned with trying to make someone else be better
But you're not concerned making yourself be better like here's here's not gonna fucking work
Here's the thing there's there's the person closest to you the person that you know the most you know more than anybody is you
So really you can only impact yourself in a fundamental way and by doing that by doing that
You may potentially influence the people around you. They may start to do the same thing.
They may start to influence people around them and then now there's a world of change.
That's right.
I got a thought experiment for you.
Try this out.
Imagine you have a person that you truly care about.
Maybe it's a kid, maybe it's your son, maybe you have a child, right?
A person that you truly honestly care about.
How would you treat that person?
What about a dog?
Well, maybe your dog, right?
I love you, man. Right. How would you treat that person or that dog? How would you treat that person? What about a dog? Well, baby, a dog. I love you, man. Right. How would you treat that person or that dog?
How would you treat that person? How would you feed them?
How would you talk to them when you saw that they were stressed?
How would you talk to them when you saw them in a bad relationship?
Or not taking...
So how would you take care of that person?
Right? Now sometimes, that doesn't mean you give them whatever they want.
Like, you don't just give your dog a bunch of dog treats all the time.
Because you know, you care about your dog.
That's going to make your dog sick. It's not going to be good for you. Sometimes you all the time because you know you care about your dog that's gonna make your dog sick it's not gonna be good for you sometimes you challenge
that person because you want them to grow now flip that on yourself yeah I know you're
going there that's it fucking felt it that's it you treat yourself like somebody you care
about and watch what happens sometimes that's hard sometimes it's tough love sometimes
I mean you make the first step that's why I said being being in therapy is almost I think it's crazy
It's like you should be proud of that because you you knew something was going on inside of you
And instead of like pushing it down and let it continue I did for a long time right for fucking sure
Yeah, but you still made a lot of people don't bro
You don't they end up doing lots of fucking drugs to make them feel detached
Yeah, just keep burying themselves and burying themselves and burying themselves. I'm too afraid of
And they just keep burying themselves and burying themselves and burying themselves. I'm too afraid to do drugs Like I'm too if I'm gonna fucking kill myself. Maybe that's a blessing
Maybe that's a blessing in disguise for you, right? That fear of that at least drove you like fuck
I don't forget this out and the people around me Mason Brandon people that I love and care about saying like you should probably do this
Like you know, you're all good and everything but fucking do this, right? And I died and you know you need that
I needed that I'm actually feeling Great when you walk out of it.
Well, it's probably hard.
Every time you change, man, what you do,
every time you grow, that means the old you has to die.
And that shit sucks.
Well, here it is, though, with anybody, right?
Who cares names and stuff like that?
Just this is the way I look at stuff with that.
And I used to treat, this is how I used to like,
self-talk, right?
We were always a trainer.
I had surrounded myself with these trainers
that were really good.
Instead of like, looking at the things that like, oh, this guy's copying me. This guy's doing this.
It's like, you know what? Fuck it. I want, I want, I want, I want everyone.
I want everyone to come on. Yeah, come on. Yeah, I'm gonna give you all my secrets, dude.
And I'm still that guy today. Like, you can, I'm gonna open book. You want to open my business?
You want to know how I done this? I'll tell you how I've done it. I'm not afraid.
Yeah, so the intro thing, you got to tell them about that. Yeah, so the game changer first.
So for us, like, we, so the, like I was talking off air,
we were talking about the first 100 episodes.
We're back from a break, by the way.
It was gonna be like a hard, right?
So we could score that out.
We could transition it right now.
So we had like a, we had like a hundred some episodes in
and we got really good just the three of us
because it was natural.
It was like three buddies talking probably like you guys, right?
Yeah.
And then we start introducing guests and we start bringing guests in.
And it was just this, it was awful.
It was just in like the one liner guy who throws in these little funny comments
every now and then and you know we know him so well so we know when he goes
to speak up we kind of listen and it's always something funny and we laugh
well we guest is in and they don't know get the vibe get the vibe the
sarcasm so the important Justin would just be quiet the whole time because
you can't get anything for me lately yeahic. Yeah, tell me about this.
Yeah, and we would always start it off
with this introduction.
Okay, so we're on here with Bradley Martin here.
We're on the Mind Pump.
We're talking to Bradley Martin.
Right, go ahead, go ahead, introduce yourself,
and it would be so fucking terrible.
And we're just, we were doing that for a long time.
And then we realized like, you know what,
fuck this, because the really good shit
is when we're just being ourselves
and talking to each other like, hey, browse your bro how's your day going man you look fucking tired today
just having that type of conversation and so we're like you know what as soon as we get in studio
Mike's go the fuck on we turn it on we put our phones on and we just go even it's the first time I've
ever met you we're recording right away. What's kind of how we started it right? So then what we do
we could get I think okay now that's kind of rude to an audience to like they're listening to who for 30
minutes right so then we wait till the episode is over and then
we record the other one. This is yeah. And that's money because what that a couple
reasons why that's money because one it's the conversation will be more natural you'll
get into real good topics faster. And then when I actually talked to you and I get into
your care term, like now that I know you guys I feel really well and that was we spent probably
about five hours just fucking yeah yeah I'm
gonna be right together and shit right so I feel like I really know you so now
when I intro you're gonna feel that you're gonna hear that as a listener you're
gonna hear my passion talking about you guys because I like you guys and I
can say specific things about what I like about each of your characters because
I just learn that and so now when I when I when I pre so true so fucking
true because when we got done with the Andy one,
we were like, fuck man, this guy's dope is fucking,
it has all this cool shit.
We knew everything after the conversation.
And obviously if we had put that in front of like,
yo, this is who we're about to talk to,
this is where we talk to.
It would be so much more like engaging
for the people listening.
Yeah, so what we'll do is we'll open the episode
and be like, in this episode of Mind Pump,
we talk to blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
and then he'll chime in, I'll chime in,
and oh, remember we talked about the,
you're gonna hear it in this upcoming episode,
and then I'll say, here we are talking to so-and-so,
and then it switches right into the end of the video.
Yeah, and we gotta do that, yeah.
It's super easy, like, right after we leave,
that's how you do your intro.
It makes it so, and what's your,
there's all kinds of stuff you could read up on,
like the strategy of it from a marketing standpoint too,
because we're giving you little bits, like a,
for example, you know, and we'll talk about
you just getting emotional. Well, that doesn't happen until like to you would
never know right. So when I'd be ensuring that I'd be like, dude, bro, it was so crazy
when you know, Bradley opened up and talked about this stuff and I'll talk about it. And
you'll say, you know, happen an hour and I'll be like, fuck, it touched me when you went
through that. And so people are going to hang in there for that. And that's that all
that stuff matters, right? Absolutely. So it's a it's a very organic natural way for you to be real for you to talk about that
Intro that person and then the flow is like man that was like a game changer. Yeah, we gotta do this
We gotta make sure we do this. Yeah, we got it. We got it like another
Five six in the tank that we can yeah, okay, you can start that. Yeah
But it's but here's the other part of that. Try to record your intro right after the interview
because the energy's there,
you remember everything with you.
And some people like to do it with the guest,
we personally like to do it without the guest.
Like the guest leaves, let's record the intro right now.
So we can talk about them.
Yeah, and just say, our aunt and we're honest.
Like that's the other thing.
Like, we've said in podcasts, like, you know,
here like Dave Asprey was one.
Like you guys know Dave Asprey is right
Yeah, bulletproof guy whatever move Kaka okay. Yeah, we interviewed him and it was super formulaic super can like we couldn't break through every
Answer he gave us was like a commercial commercial and so we did the intro. That's what we said like yeah
We tell our audience we told our audience like hey, you know
It was kind of formulaic and this and that and you know
We're just very honest about our feelings about it and it makes the episode so much better.
We just interviewed Aubrey Marcus over at on it.
I don't know if he knows who that is.
Yeah, right.
So this is the second time that we'd interviewed with him.
And the first time we were like babies in the podcasting world.
So, you know, and he was kind of big time.
And so, you know, there was this like this respect thing.
I didn't want to like, if he said something I disagreed with or I felt like he didn't give me a good answer, I just kind of like took it.
And we were just talking to our buddy Jordan
and he was like, man, you owe it to your audience
to fucking speak your mind.
They're following their listening to you for a reason
because they love you and they love that your person
like the person.
Their responsibility is not to the guest.
Your responsibility is to your audience.
So when you think of it that way and you're talking
to the guy, because sometimes you're afraid
to like disagree or say something. Yeah. But you're like,
no, no, no, my responsibility is not to you. We're having a conversation just to my audience.
I'm going to tell you what I feel. And you know, worst case scenario, you get mad and leave,
which usually doesn't happen or never happens. But even if it did, there's a viral episode right there.
Yeah. Yeah. I'm so, so it's all off. It's interesting because like our dynamic with Brandon,
like we have a bit of all that.
Brandon's the guy who he'll be the one
who's really fucking challenge somebody.
We have that episode with the girl who was grace,
they had a bancer.
That's great.
That's perfect.
So I think it's good.
I love this shit.
People respect that.
That's one of the things like,
when people listen to Mind Pump,
like probably one of the number one things plug, right?
So one of the number one things
that we hear people talking about is that,
we don't all agree.
And we fucking will argue it out on the show.
And we do it intelligently.
It's not something where it's like this arguing battle
where it's just pointless.
It's, what I know is, like,
Sal a lot of times, it can get to a point.
If I wasn't in the show to interrupt him,
I know somebody's thinking,
like what I'm thinking right now,
which is, that sounds like bullshit, dude.
I know it's true.
So fucking real.
Right, let's go.
Right, I know that what you're spitting is true,
because I understand the science too,
but I also know what a 25-year-old me would've been listening
to that being like, no, fuck, no, bro, no.
So I interrupt and I say that.
Like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, no, no, no, no, no, no,
wait a second, I'll say shit like that.
And so I'm doing that because not because I'd really disagree
with him, but I think my audience needs to hear him work
through that and explain better what he's trying to get at
or hear the dialogue between the two of us go back and forth
when we and debate it and debate it in a healthy way.
So I think that's something.
It's funny too, because sometimes we'll have actual debates
and the audience, like we have a forum,
I have a private forum,
who's like our most die hard fans, right?
And they'll be stressed out about it,
like selling Adam, or are you,
and then people will, and then they'll make a poll,
like who agrees with Sal, or who agrees with Adam?
It's like, you're right, man.
Yeah, no, people, I'm trying to give all the little things,
like hats that we have found like during this like
Podcasting journey like that we've changed that we were doing before that we do differently now
You know, I think we are we are nervous a lot at the beginning So there was we probably swore more than we normally would we could high all the time just to calm our nerves and shit
We're now like I don't think any of that. We also know when to like let the other guy talk
We have this like sick this sick ability to be
in each other's head where Sal has this ability where he could carry the whole show for
three hours. I have the same ability. That's why we do a lot of single interviews all
of time. But we have this thing where you just kind of know when to interrupt the guy.
I know when he's feeling dead space and then I know when he's dropping fucking good information
where you're like, oh my god, can I use that for my YouTube? That's fucking fire. And I
won't interrupt him because I know he's making, he's coming to a really bad ass
point.
I can see where he's going.
And then I know like if no one, if no one chimes in like, let's say you guys really
suck like this happens, like you interview with some people, they don't have the skills
set to go back and forth and have dialogue.
So I have this ability to hear him just kind of having his like going off and go and just
fill in dead space and I'll go, I'll come in and I'll interrupt out.
And you think about that from an audio tour,
like someone who's listening to that,
if you're hearing that,
and even if he's given really good information,
you still have a little bit of it.
So this will happen with Brandon,
where you're just kind of like,
oh, but like, almost like make him explain it differently
so that I could understand it.
Of course, right.
Everyone else could understand it.
Right, right.
So for sure, just like jumping in
and like, the dynamic of the whole thing is, I mean, you guys have figured this out for sure. Of course, right. So everyone else could understand it. Right, right. For sure, just like jumping in and like,
the dynamic of the whole thing is,
I mean, you guys have figured this out for sure.
It's just real.
You're just having a real conversation, you know,
and that's how it flows.
Otherwise, it becomes formulaic and it loses its flow.
And rather, you know, you're listening to someone,
you're just thinking about the next thing
you're gonna ask them, rather than listening to them.
And then when a real question pops up,
ask that question and go down that rabbit hole.
And it's okay.
Because a lot of times one big one thing that I learned too is sometimes you go in with
an objective like I'm going to stay on this topic and conversations don't always work
that way.
Like a real life.
I'll come up to you and I'll ask you about something and next you know we're talking about
something totally different and it's more interesting like let that happen on the podcast rather
than being like no we we gotta stay on topic.
Like, we're talking about this thing over here.
Let's go for it.
And I can always tell when someone's like really terrible,
like story-arcing, right?
Where they'll, they're an interviewer,
and they're asking, yeah, right?
Story-arcing, yeah, yeah, that's nice.
Yeah, there's a term for it,
and it's basically like the transitions
that you make in conversation.
And I can always know when someone's not good at that skill set,
because they'll be talking to me when they're interviewing me,
they'll be asking me like about my childhood, right?
And I'm fucking inside, they don't know it,
but inside I'm like, wow, you're hitting me
in the fields right now, kind of like how you were feeling.
And then all of a sudden they'll like,
yes, which to like, they can't stuck there.
So what's it like running a podcast?
And I'm like, oh, yeah.
And it's like you lose that moment.
Oh yeah, yeah.
Yeah, there was the meat right there,
and you weren't smart enough to pick up on it and pull it out of me. And so there's a real art to that and some
people have a really good skills. And then there's times when you stand on topic probably
longer than you probably should, you're talking about something and it's just like, okay,
we can't beat that dead horse now. Let's brand in his fucking photo that he wants. How
do we transition from one topic to another? So there's definitely skills. You guys listen
to podcasts. Yeah. He
listens to a lot. I started to listen to a lot more when I
started this because once we started to listen to mind
pump, it probably do.
This is a culture cast. So I know I mean, as a podcast
or listening to other podcasts, I'm sorry I want to say
is actually do listen to my own podcasts. You should
listen. I was like, I'll listen, right? Pretend to be a
listener, right? I'm trying to hear jokes aside. I can say. Yeah, yeah, you should. You should do Now it's like a list show, right? Pretend to be a listener, right? I'm trying to hear jokes aside,
that comes down to the side.
You should do that.
I think it's good to do that.
Well, I think it's good to do that just because
I think you can listen to maybe things in yourself
where you're like, I should have spoken more up there.
Or, you know, I didn't like that I did this.
Or I need to talk to Brandon about doing this
or I need to talk Brad about doing that.
Cause I told him at one point,
I said every now and then,
we would get in with certain people,
and he'd be like,
I don't wanna make this about this.
And I told him, I said, look, dude,
I said, we have to play to people's strengths.
We have to play to people's strengths
because then we're gonna get the best out of them.
And like, we're not gonna have
Neil deGrasse Tyson on,
Neil deGrasse Tyson on,
and be like, all right, we're not talking about space.
We're not gonna, we're not talking about space. We're not gonna talk about physics.
I'm like, if we're gonna power lifters,
we're talking about powerlifting.
You know what I mean?
And eventually, you're gonna find a similarity
with that person, you're gonna be like, okay,
I can ask him this question based off of this.
And we had the Lovatoz on, you know,
what do you call it?
Yeah, we had the Lovatoz on it.
And for them, that was like a straight-up podcast between Brad, we have the Lovato's on it. And for them, that was like a straight up podcast
between Brad, Brandon and the Lovato's.
For me, I had moments where I chimed in,
but I honestly just had a blast listening to them
in their perspective.
And I was like, I feel like I'm listening
to a live podcast in the room.
And I was perfectly fine with that.
Because I was like, these guys have strengths
and they have experiences that I don't,
but I really like listening to it.
So I think there's some stuff to pick you back up
with you're saying, and then almost kind of a little bit
disagree is that one of the things that you'll see
with podcasts or that have this skill set is you'll see
some of the, and Jordan is a good example,
I keep using him, keep plugging him, our boy here.
But we've learned a lot, and what I appreciated about him was
when we were early on the game, this guy's killing it,
he has a chiquillo, he has all the big,
he's huge, huge, so millions and millions of downloads,
and he just opened up the game plan for us and just said,
this is how things work, and everybody else is so competitive,
they hold everything tight to them,
but when you interview, you wanna make them feel comfortable in their space
because they're a power lifter,
but where you get like a ninja and bad ass
is you learn to transition and get to the deep shit.
That's what I'm trying to do though.
I just wanna make this point real quick,
because like you're jumping on it,
I wanna fucking jump on it.
I'm on the credit.
I'm not the credit.
I just wanna make my point, which was like,
I didn't, I know that that's what people know,
but like I'm
thinking of the listeners and I'm like if because they know we work out they know we do this
I just don't want to be like just talking about powerlifting but like I always try to get to like the
deeper shit like what Matt like why do they want to power the why are they powerlifting what makes
them powerlif what makes them care about I'd like deeper shit that's always my goal just like
everything else is so serviced up when I just know I don't give a fuck oh too I was like I love
powerlifting but at the end of the day, I love who Mason is as a person.
It's crazy that I've been with him throughout the powerlifting, but that doesn't...
It's more interesting to be honest with you.
Yeah, what touches me is the person, not all the surface shit.
I don't want any of this shit that I can go find on YouTube or Google.
No, no, no.
Like if I can go look up Bradley Martin and find out all of your fucking PRs you've done,
I can find all that shit on the internet and follow you on Instagram.
That's insane shit.
Right, right, right.
Like I don't give a shit about any of that stuff.
But it's like how did you get to those fucking stats?
Right, right, right.
Or what makes you tick?
Or why do you even care about those stats?
Yeah.
You know, like I want to die exactly.
Like I want to fucking bear with you.
Yeah, I want to get into that.
So, but then that's sometimes hard to do.
Some people put a wall up and so the skill set is getting them comfortable with what
they are comfortable talking about in that arena and then story arcing over to something
you want to really get into.
Like the transition that you didn't even feel when we got into you going to therapy.
Yeah.
Like that's really where I wanted to go.
But I'm fucking story arc me in therapy,
you fucker.
So there you story arc me.
What I didn't want to do in buckets.
Now imagine, imagine if we would have walked in,
and me thinking that you potentially could have been doing
that, or maybe that was a doctor appointment
that you had today, and I said, just started on that.
And I started on that, you would have put a wall up
or got kind of defensive.
I'd be like, what the fuck is this person following me?
Right, right right right
it's like a fuck you bro I don't want to hear that but if I if I ease you into it
because you're comfortable
you're just how you pick up girls too are we talking
bro it's all communication bro it's all
communication effective communication it's all the same whether you're
selling whether you're picking up girls where you're talking to your friends
so fucking real and it's. And it's a skill.
It's a skill.
You can use it poorly, right?
Or you can use it in the right way, but it is a skill.
And it's just effective communication.
What are some other things that we picked up
from other really great people?
I'm trying to think of some cool nuggets to give you.
Because I bet you guys have some,
I bet part of your audience probably wants to get into it.
Absolutely.
Yeah, right?
Everybody wants to be a YouTuber now or a podcast.
We've got a lot of people for sure to listen and want.
Right, right. And everybody thinks they can, so they'll just get on there and start doing podcast. There's got a lot of people for sure listening, want, you know? Right, right.
You know, and everybody thinks they can
so they'll just get on there and start doing it.
But there's a lot to the game.
I think number one is, you know, being true to yourself,
like we talked about, right?
I think that's a game changer.
I think that you have to be able to provide value to people's lives.
And that might be entertainment,
that might be education, that might be a little bit of,
but I don't know, but what you need to add value to life,
or why else would I fucking tune into you every single day
Unless you're not you're giving me something right so I think if you give with that attitude or you approach it with that attitude
And you're not thinking about how am I gonna make the money which is all the questions people ask like probably how much money you make and when
Just oh man, this is with the fucking everything right do they always go like the money first is like instead of like why right?
Are they giving you the fucking money? Which is the why, right?
Right, yeah.
This doesn't just apply to podcasts, this is everything in life.
100% right?
Like, cause dude, I mean, I can't tell you how many times someone said,
oh man, you do this stuff online,
you bet you make a bunch of money doing it,
like I wanna get into that.
Like that's your focus, you're fucked, you're already fucked.
Like you're gonna, cause people are gonna feel that.
They're gonna be like, whoa, what the fuck,
you're trying to just, you're trying to sell me a car?
Like, this crazy.
No, you know what, it's interesting too,
because money is actually, and I say this,
people I'm sure think it's controversial,
but money's actually almost worthless.
Of course, money can get things for it.
Oh god, this is a whole nother fucking conversation.
Money can definitely get you things, of course,
if you don't have food, you don't have shelter,
but once you meet those basic minimums,
money is worthless unless there's meaning behind it
and challenge to get it.
And all the evidence you need is you look at the studies
on lottery winners.
They've done studies on people who win the lottery.
And within a couple of years,
the right back to where they were before,
depressed, unhappy, whatever, many of them lose all that money.
And that's because they didn't earn it
or they didn't go through the challenge. So money. And that's because they didn't earn it or they just go through the challenge.
So money.
And they just didn't go through the challenges
and the growth that resulted in that many times,
which is different from building a business from scratch,
earning your way, growing relationships,
and then you become a millionaire, whatever,
it means a lot more.
It's the alchemist.
It's the alchemist.
When you learn that.
That's a great book.
Well, yeah, it's a great book.
And the whole premise is that when you get to...
It's a good dogma girl.
I don't remember the author, but once you get to the end,
you finally realize, which for the end for a lot of people
is, oh, once I make $10 million or whatever
your fucking number is, you find out that the real gold,
the real money was in the fucking journey.
Yeah, the journey.
Was all that.
The journey.
And it's unfortunate, because I don't know if you guys
seen the documentary with Jim... gym carry he gets
not yet
i don't want to write he opens up a lot of this and that's this poor guy has been
what is it say like i wish everybody could be rich and famous so they know that
that's not the answer right but so many of us they we chase after these people
these instagram stars or celebrities that we look up to and we realize like
that the answer isn't their success that they have and really the things that
that's awesome about where they're at.
It was the journey they got there.
And I tell you what, a lot of them don't even realize that.
And so I think the sooner that you pick up on that, and I still, this is something I still
struggle with today, because I'm a visionary guy, I'm a grinder, I push, I want more, I
understand that.
They're like an older me.
I totally agree.
I'm probably sure.
But I've learned now to be able to step back and be more present.
I've put some things in place in my life, so this is what helps me do that.
I'll give you an example.
First of all, I've got an incredible partner of seven years, who is the better version
of me.
She knows that, and she's very attracted to this self-discipline, money-making machine
guy that I've created.
But also knows that it's very, very important
to have perspective and pull me away from that.
So something that we learned to do a long time
going on a relationship was, you know,
every two to three months, I already have something,
I don't even know where I'm going.
It's calendar somewhere and I'm taking off for four or five days
because she knows to put it in there
because if she lets me go, I'll just keep filling it.
You're exactly me.
Right, I'm a fucking hilarious.
I'm a maniac.
I'm a maniac.
My fucking relationship.
So these are things that you want to start practicing.
Fuck you.
What it does.
And that's when you find the right woman, bro.
Let me tell you, when the right woman will come around and she'll get the best at it
view and she'll bring that out and she'll compliment who you are and only accelerate who
you are by providing this part of your life.
I don't need another girl who's going to run as hard as I am.
I don't need that.
I need someone to help me find the balance and the but also allow me
to be me too because a lot of that is me. A lot of that push and drive. So she doesn't take it away. She
doesn't. When I'm working till midnight and I haven't even looked at her at the house with that,
she don't kill me. She might let me know the next day like, hey, you know, you didn't even look at me
yesterday, right? And I'm self-aware now when she says stuff like that that I know to make sure that
I come back because that she's just loving me. But I think that's one thing that we put in place
that was huge.
Another thing that just recently I hacked into
this last year was that we read together.
And it's something that, and we listen to audiobooks, right?
So we're listening to audiobooks or a podcast, anything.
But what it does is it's crazy where it allows me
to stop focusing about all the shit that's.
She does this in the culture cast I'm assuming yes normally actually
right
I just got that that's really creepy but I dig it yeah fuck that yes yes no
my my girl loves you for sure she's like this is like this is a buffer
version of you we like it's like a buffer younger version
exactly she's like she's got me out there trying to jump out
of a pool and stuff right now.
Oh my gosh.
You can do it.
That's how we actually heard of it.
That's right, I told her I tried to jump out of a pool.
No, I think as you get older, you start.
And I think for me, it took a couple of big businesses
of building and being successful and then getting there
and realizing like I'm kind of there all by myself.
And it's not as fun as I thought it would be.
I thought like, oh, once I got there,
it's just gonna be awesome private jets.
Everyone would be doing this, we're doing that.
All my friends and homies are with me
and it's nothing like that whatsoever.
And then I realized like, fuck, the real magic
was in the whole process to get there.
Yeah, I hope the whole journey, man.
That's it, man.
It's like building a physique, man.
You snap your fingers and make people fit and whatever.
It doesn't mean the same.
Yeah.
Not at all.
It's that journey.
How fast you get it, how fast you lose it type thing similar.
Similar.
Well, you know, you get people like, if I just lose 30 pounds, I'm going to be happy.
It's like, actually, the other way around, you got to be happy first and you lose a 30
pound.
Yeah.
That's just the reality.
Same thing with earning money, same thing with building a business, same thing with
any of this stuff.
It's all about that freaking journey, man.
So when you embrace the journey, wow, do you become powerful?
When you start to realize that,
instead of fighting what reality,
here's a thing, trip off this, right?
Reality is real, it's right in front of you.
You can either choose to make it your enemy
or to make friends with it.
That's where the two choices.
Now you can, damn, what do I gotta tweet that?
What's that?
Yeah, I'm serious.
That's some shit right here.
So you can literally sit there and be like,
this is not happening, I don't like this,
and just fucking hate and fight and make reality your enemy,
which will literally create a living hell for you.
That is what hell is, or you can make friends with reality.
This is the reality, why don't I just make friends with it?
You know, it's like one of those situations
where you're hating where you're at
and you just think to yourself,
what if this is how it always is gonna be?
What if nothing will ever change? Well, I guess I better fucking learn to enjoy this and that changes everything
That's when you start to enjoy the process changes everything absolutely just all kinds of naga bombs
I
Too really good YouTube videos
100% make sure you bet put the credit I got you I promise
videos. 100%. Make sure you bet. Put the credit I got you. I promise. I promise. I promise. I'm too good to really good videos.

I think I don't know if I haven't seen anybody else really do it
I or at least I know you were the one the first people to do this
Which is kind of the fuck the booth mentality? Yeah, and so we've talked about this so we were so anti those right we don't go to and we went to we spoke at one L.A. Fitt Expo
We spoke at one of the couple weeks ago or whatever month ago whatever it was was a month ago
It was a month ago. Yes, but I love that you just throw a bunch of shit in there and you go and say I'm gonna be here at this time
Mark around right because we've talked about like just if we go and we ever if you ever to see mind pump in a booth at a
Fuckin Expo
It's just to give shit away and just say what's up that's what I
that's what I'm doing to because I got to the point where a lot of people
complain to like I never found you so now I kind of have to be like here's a
place where I'm at and I do the same shit I'll just give shit away first come
first sir yeah that's awesome but this year at the Olympia I just want to make
this announcement now here first yeah we're gonna have a booth for zoo
culture and I'm going to squat weight on the hoverboard I heard you say oh
shit are you gonna do the cage or no catch yeah I think I'm going to squat weight on the hoverboard. I heard you say oh shit. Are you gonna do the cage or no?
Yeah, I think I'm doing so I just want everyone to see so I'm gonna tell everyone like 12 o'clock this time come to the booth
It's going down. You don't believe it watch me either die doing it watch me fucking do it, you know
I'm excited for this. Oh, that's a big one man. Oh, yeah
I love people gonna wanna. Oh, yeah, cuz I'm gonna I'll promote it for like two weeks prior
So I'll get people super hyped about it. Cause you know people be like fake.
Yeah, fake.
So come see it.
You still get that though, you still get a lot of people.
Oh my God, do people call our weights fake all the time?
When we, because I'll do something, we're like,
I'll do like, what's the name of that squat
where you hold onto the bar?
Jefferson.
Jefferson squat.
You hold onto the bar.
Like, use it to put it so we can play.
So we'd be like, that was fucking fake weights,
but it's like, no, I'm fucking using my arms
and my upper body to prop myself to pull myself through it.
It's not fake like Castleberry?
Oh my God, Jesus Christ.
I don't know shit about any of that stuff.
I just hear it, I see it.
That's what people say, right?
Yeah, he's still impressive.
Yeah, no matter what, yeah, no matter what,
he's fucking strong.
Yeah, man, man, man, man, man, man,
people say a lot of shit about me,
that's also not true.
So it's like, fuck it, you know.
I wonder how, I think more often than not,
it's that way, I think more of not,
it's distorted, right?
It's like, maybe even though, well, what does he do, more of not, it's distorted, right? It's like maybe even there's a lot.
Well, what does he do it?
What he does is he's lifting, but someone's lifting the weight.
Right, you know what I'm saying?
It's like, with seven plates, but the guy's like, deadlifting it.
Yeah, right, right.
I can get on here and do that.
No problem.
Basically, I lift 700-800 pounds on fucking deadlift.
Oh, shit, if I had you, you spot me,
I could probably bench 500 pounds.
Easily.
Like, especially that's how you always try to.
You probably try one hand, so it looks real. And that's kind of like, probably how he always kind of, not that he's like, he's impressive, but that's probably kind of how he's always in train.
So it's just kind of like, I'm just gonna put this on YouTube or Instagram and it's like,
people like, oh my god, cause they just see this.
They see the amount of weights that they've done.
I don't know, all I know is, dude is yacht as fuck, impressive, and I saw him do a kick flip on a skateboard in one of his videos.
I also saw that's impressive.
I also saw him do some of those dreadmills.
I can't think it's Kiflik. And I've seen him down on one of those dreadmills. I can't think it's Kiflik.
And I've seen him run on one of them treadmills, like 25 miles an hour.
Well, I think, I don't know.
Because I didn't even accept those fucking numbers.
I know I saw the video.
I mean, he put it on there.
I don't know if he fucking, yeah, but it's not hard to get it up to 25 miles an hour.
Oh, it's not.
Can you sustain that?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You can get that.
But motherfucker's moving for a big, big thing.
No, that's the thing, like fuck it.
But people say everything.
So that's how I found you.
I mean, it's rare that you see a guy your size
that moves like you, that can jump like you
as strong as you are.
So I mean, yeah.
Oh no.
Oh no.
That's all is you.
You don't.
Do you know very many guys that are like your size
that are on Instagram and YouTube that put up stuff
and put up the numbers that you put up
and do some of the shit that you've done
You've got a lot of crazy stuff that I've never seen anybody else
I'm the fitness and no like there's no
Like maybe like professional athletes who could jump really high, but not do all that right there
I'm trying a professional you might have a basketball player could out jump you but he ain't
Oh, yeah, of course, right or some football players who like will have like really crazy verticals
But they don't do anything else. Yeah, yeah, did you have to play football? You know
It's fucking lit
But yeah, dude no no one else really
When did you know that was like a skill set that you had that you actually could do some
of these things that we could potentially vibe on?
Honestly, when I knew it was when I did the hoverboard
and Nadine said, the guy who filmed all my stuff
at the time, this is when I knew it was a good idea.
And I knew that I could do it
because I was just stupid.
Number one, stupid.
Number two, he goes, you should for sure not do this.
And other times he'd be like, yeah, this is a good idea.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, do it.
But this one, he was like, you should definitely not try this one.
And then I was like, yeah, for sure I'm gonna do it.
That's a good idea.
That's what I knew, like I could do it,
because it was so fucking stupid.
That even he said that.
But he even was like, this is like first,
like I know we like do a lot of this,
but like don't even do this one.
Like really, I think you shouldn't do it. Oh wow. And that's what you do. And that's when I was like, that's the like I know we like do a lot of this but like don't even do this one right really I think you shouldn't do it oh like genuinely and that's what you do and that's
when I was like that's the one I got to do because that's in those are like those are always the
moments where it was like those were the best videos oh god with the ones he was like for like this
is a really bad idea and it I mean it is like yeah because the hoverboard one I mean that aren't
sure for the things gonna break under it did so this one did it went it had to go but it kept rolling okay so if you watched a YouTube video of me doing it feet? And it did, so this one did, it went, it had to go, but it kept rolling.
So if you watched a YouTube video of me doing it,
you could hear it go, but it's still rolling.
But yeah, that's the fear is like,
it's gonna crumble and you're gonna fall, right?
But I'm like, okay, well, I got bumper plates.
Did you should be sponsored by a brand?
Somebody should be paying you big money,
dude, that's like a commercialist.
Well, that was on ESPN, that was one of the things
that got really viral.
That was an ESPN, that was everywhere.
So I got, they talked about it, they're like, they said, Bradley Martin did this, Well, that was on ESPN. That was one of the things that got really viral. Oh, it was an ESPN. No way. I know that.
They talked about it. They're like, they said,
Bradley Martin do this. They was on the top 10 countdown of something shit.
And it was, I remember the guy who's on ESPN.
Yeah.
Oh shit. And then they're like, they're like talking about like,
yes, you do that. Like, oh, they get really, and then like, you know,
everyone has something to say, like, you know, other people are doing it.
They're gonna hurt themselves.
Right. Right.
But anyways, yeah, that's, that was one that went super viral.
Yeah.
So, I mean, that's another thing, oh, I always try to point out,
like, I don't train like that.
I was just like, you're not doing squats working out?
Yeah, like I'm not squatting on hoverboards.
Like, people think like, it was that what you do,
like you're fucking stupid, and I'm like, dude, I just squat.
And then I was like, oh, I'll just try it on hoverboard
because like, the reason why I did it honestly is
because you see videos like Mike Tyson, all these other people fall in shit. And then everyone's, the public perception was like, oh, I'll just try it on hoverboard because the reason why I did it on a seat is because UC videos are like Mike Tyson,
all these other people are falling in shit.
And then everyone's, the public perception of people
on hoverboard is like, that is dangerous.
You're gonna fucking fall.
And I did it.
And I first did it.
I was like, this is really hard.
And then I did it for a while.
I was like, this is not that hard.
And I was like, I'm gonna try and squat on this.
So I squat it.
And then I squat it by myself, which is me.
And I squat it with a barbell.
And then I squat it with a barbell on a 135,
you know, 135, 225.
So the whole point was like,
it really is not that hard.
It was just me being like,
fuck it, I'm just gonna try and do it.
Right, right.
So yeah.
Because when I first, yeah, that's me.
When I first got on it, I couldn't even write it.
I just ate shit.
Like I ate shit, like every,
so that's what's going on in the end,
and everyone's just eating shit.
So I'm like, if I could do this,
it'll go really viral,
because it's really, that's when it was super popular.
Yeah, I remember it was big.
So all the companies too, I want to say fuck all you companies.
They completely took this video and tried to sell their products with it.
Oh.
Can hold all this weight, and I was like, fuck, they probably made millions of dollars off me.
That's what I'm saying. 100%.
That was the first thing came to mind.
I was like, oh shit, right, get on the hoverboard.
Yeah, tons of hoverboard, they were like having people post that
to promote their hoverboard like sales
Shit, look at that. So yeah, I cracked right they cracked I think
Stoeter you when you got out of that hole though, dude when you came up and you had oh my god, I was hyped
Everybody was hyped what what I for sure that's one right what are you?
What do you say your top three your top three feet?
your top three feet. You almost ate it.
You almost ate it.
You almost ate it.
Almost ate it.
That one got shaky.
That one jumping out of the pool.
Oh my God.
Yeah, jumping out of the pool's sick, bro.
I remember the first time I saw that in a film,
I was like, man, that was,
I've never seen anybody do that.
Yeah, it was, the pool, the pool's the first one,
and then this was one of the later ones.
And then it's just like the strength stuff
and like still being jacked, I guess.
Yeah. And there are more guys like that now stuff and like still being jacked I guess. Yeah.
And there are more guys like that now
who do stuff like,
but the crazy shit.
And then like lifting the girls was another thing.
Yeah.
Cause everyone likes to see, oh girls.
Yeah of course.
I'm like, oh, I should have just put more girls
in my videos, more views.
I'll just lift them cause whatever.
I would say one of the most impressive ones.
Not, I mean, obviously these are all impressive
was just the, what was that song there?
Everybody was doing like the pause.
Okay, we did a, yeah, it was a weekend song
when it came out, the Da Punk one and the weekend.
No, no.
You know the one where you had all the girls at...
Ray Stremmer, yeah.
That Jim and Thousand Oaks.
The Black Beatles song.
Yes, that one.
Just because it was so, like, it was a long shot.
The Maddicate Challenge? Yeah, that was one of my most viral was so like it was a long shot the mannequin challenge
That was one of my most viral videos that was really cool
Because 50,000 50,000 50 million views in less than a day on Facebook what yes on my Facebook
50 million views 53 million views in less than a day and it got taken down
Sony always a sound yeah sound, yeah, the music.
Yeah, mine got yanked first.
We put a weekend song on it and Sony went and took it
cause they're like,
what the fuck was it was making money?
I wasn't, I mean, I guess in turn, I made money.
Sure, sure, sure.
But like, I'm just promoting, like,
if anything, I make the song fucking cooler.
Right.
You fucking asshole.
But yeah, if 53 million in like less than a day
and they got taken down a couple,
do you share with people too that I'm, because I know you get asked all the time
about wanting to start the YouTube channel
and do what you did and about the money
and so that I think there's this big misconception
on how much money you get paid from YouTube as it is.
Like you have.
Just the commercials or whatever.
Yeah, the advertising money.
You don't make much money on YouTube.
No, not at all.
Especially not now.
YouTube is fucked now.
Right.
YouTube is like the hardest platform to grow
and to succeed on.
Because the way they've set up all these algorithms
and all the stuff that they're trying to make YouTube into.
Oh, we know that, now we're grinding ours out.
It's the worst time ever, but like at the end of the day,
fuck it, you're just gonna try. It's a platform.
But it's the worst time ever to do YouTube.
Like YouTube doesn't want to be YouTube anymore.
They want to be Netflix.
Right. So they're catering to like certain, like legit,
like YouTube talking to Logan Paul or someone like
legit talking straight to that person,
like a preferred person.
And they're trying to make sure these people are successful
and then everyone else is just kind of like, good luck.
So you're favoring that content
because that content is what,
where they see themselves going
and they want it to be like,
oh, we want a channel, like,
this channel is like Logan's channel.
This channel is like, every see news, this channel,
they want their own channels.
They want to see something.
So it's like, everyone else is like, hey, we, you know, we know you guys kind of help build this, but like, you know, this channel, they want their own channels. They want to look for it. So it's like everyone else is like,
hey, we know you guys kind of help build this,
but like, we kind of don't need you anymore.
And it sucks because you're just like, fuck, man.
Like my thought is like, how do I get to be one of the cool guys?
And then another thought is like, man, fuck this.
Like, it sucks because it really, at one point,
you were getting subscribers and that's what it was.
It meant that they would get your notifications.
And then I got like a million, I think I got like a million
too.
And then it was like, oh now we have these notifications
that you also have to click to get any notifications
about anything.
On top of it.
So it's like they just, they were like,
all the subscribers that you had, get fucked.
They don't see shit now.
Start over.
Basically.
Hopefully they see these videos just starting to post now
and start over.
Like you have to get them to click another button
and then make sure they're phone sending notifications
so it's actually getting a notification
because they literally put in word text like occasional.
Like, imagine YouTube being like,
literally in the, in the verbiage,
when you go and you click an user,
give an accept accept and then you look in your stats,
your settings.
As a user, it says, subscribe.
Okay, you subscribe cool.
But then you subscribe automatic,
doesn't mean you get everything.
Your subscribe means you get occasional notifications
from that channel.
Occasional.
Literally, occasional.
Wow.
You can go to fucking YouTube right now.
So they have to set notifications
to get notified every time.
Yes.
And still some, it doesn't even work.
Cause I'll still get times when people be like,
I get unsubscribe from your channel,
I get all this stuff,
cause now they have this whole like,
back end people who are like,
who are like, cuddling the content,
like trying to make sure like,
oh this isn't good for advertisers.
This isn't good for advertisers,
so like we'll just, we'll just won't see that as much.
This isn't, we won't, you know.
It's a lot of shit going on and like,
they just don't really talk about.
That's the thing,
I wonder if it's something that they're not.
That's the thing that worries me about these platforms
is that like we, we have friends that built
seven and eight figure businesses
through advertising through Facebook
and then Facebook switched out.
Facebook is horrible right now.
Facebook is like, oh my God, it's like a joke.
I have a Facebook page with three million likes.
Dude, I used to get a hundred and like 20,000 thumbs up
and likes, I get like 5, get 120,000 thumbs up and likes.
I get like 5,000 now.
Cause they changed the algorithm.
I'm talking about 120,000, like millions of views,
60,000 views, 70,000 views.
It literally is worthless.
They just made it, they're just like,
that's the problem with all this stuff is like,
at the end of the day, I'm not mad,
I can't be like, fuck you guys, give me my shit.
It's like you're on their platform,
they do whatever they want,
that makes sense for their business.
And that's what they're doing.
That's right.
With no regard,
not much communication either.
It's gonna change, guys, good luck.
The goal is for us to get on as many platforms as possible,
but then eventually, once we get big enough,
and our media company gets big enough,
and we get popular enough to drive people to hell.
That's exactly right.
That's 100% that should be everybody's goal.
If you're trying to be successful at social media,
how do you do it wrong?
Exactly.
You, truthfully, you want to create your own social media.
You're not wanting to get everyone to be like,
okay, we're all in this shit.
Sorry, we're all in this shit together.
And now we're all over here on something
that you can control so that you can make sure
everyone gets the content that they're actually
looking for.
Because like, all these people have subscribed.
And it's like, people have had,
I haven't some people come to the gym,
you just stop posting YouTube videos.
It's like, I've never, I've got enough gauge
for like six months or I got a check.
And like, oh yeah, fuck, I'm unsubscribed.
Like, I didn't do that.
You're just like, what?
That's crazy.
Is that for running uphill the whole fucking time?
Is that the reason why I see you do this a lot?
Is this part of your strategy to stay engaged
with your people?
I know you'll like, you'll comment, like you're saying, comment a certain word and you'll have, is this part of your strategy to stay engaged with your people? I know you'll comment a certain word
and you'll have them drive to one of your platforms.
Yeah, because Instagram has fucked its algorithm.
Where it's just kind of like,
if you don't get engagement fast anymore,
no one's gonna see your shit.
So if you're not a celebrity,
no one's gonna see your shit.
And they've done, it's fucking crazy, dude.
Like, they just keep making it more and more difficult.
More and more difficult to be successful at it. Yeah. And so you have to play all these games like you have to
get to keep people engaged in certain ways so they're like they'll actually see. It's funny because
like all I'm trying to do is get people to see my content. Right. And it's like but you got to
you got to like it's not the people that you got to get to trick you don't have to trick the people
like the people want to be there. But like they're not even knowing that they're not there because
they just don't see it. They don't see anymore.
So it's like I can post a picture that would used to get
like tons of likes, but if I don't get enough engagement
fast enough, you might be a follower
and you might not see that because that got buried
because Instagram's not instant anymore.
It's like chronologic, it's like a different order now.
They have different chronological order words.
It's not chronological, it's just like,
what's you've clicked on the most will go to the top
and like so people are falling like the rock, you're gonna see like 10 what's, what's you've clicked on the most? We'll go to the top and like,
so people are falling like the rock.
You're gonna see like 10 of the rocks pulsed.
You might see like, none of mine.
Or something like that.
If you're somebody without a big of following,
because like, you're not getting enough engagement
fast enough.
So you don't rise to the top.
So how much does that play,
like how much does that affect your parallel line?
Like if you have like, let's say you have a dry spell
or like viral videos or getting people engaged.
So I've been, I can honestly say that I've been lucky enough that we've done so well that people
have really liked the brand and have liked what we've become.
At least I'll just say quality wise.
And what I stand for in a sense, I think we've done so well earlier on that it's stuck.
So people seek it out.
Yeah, that's been growing.
So we have a separate email list for that, a separate group of people who have
like been there.
That's why email list is so fucking awesome.
Well, so they're owning your own information and content is the most important thing right
now.
Right.
Right.
So then if it doesn't really affect the apparel business, because I'm assuming
I don't know, correct me if I'm wrong, I assume that's probably your biggest driver of
revenue would be the apparel line out of everything that you do.
Yeah.
Okay, so then.
And so if it's, if the ups and downs of the YouTube and all the drama
and bullshit, you have to deal with trying to
fucking hack the algorithm, if it doesn't really make
that big of a difference on the apparel line,
why even fucking worry about it too much?
Because no matter what, it's still a chance
to like find new people.
No matter what.
Like, yeah, the reach may have been like 10 million
before and now it's fucking 200,000.
Let's just say sure still 200,000
It's still 200,000 right right right right so that's the biggest thing is like I don't I'm not mad at
YouTuber Instagram anyone for changes because they're just trying to make more money in there and it's their business
Let's be honest. They provided something that you've probably made a lot of fucking money off of it
Exactly. You could not the only thing I'm trying to do the only thing that sucks is not oh I want to make a bunch of money
It's the reach right it's them squandering the reach.
Because then you can't teach the message.
You can't say the message.
You can't say what matters to you.
You can't connect with the people.
And then none of it fucking matters.
Well, that's the biggest fault.
That's the thing that sucks.
Well, I think you moved to the best medium for that.
Podcasting, it is.
Well, that's why I fucking love it so much.
Because it's just like, this is just real shit.
Right.
This is shit that I, if the cameras are off
and this was off, I'd be saying the same fucking shit.
Exactly.
And that's dope about this,
is you can make this live on Stitcher,
off, on every platform you can move
at any platform you want to.
I mean, that's why we stay spread across.
Like, if all of a sudden, you know,
YouTube or one of these other platforms
says, you know, it puts a bunch of new algorithms in there
and say, fuck you, you're gonna do all the time.
Right, exactly.
I mean, we anticipate that.
We anticipate that.
They'll come at time where iTunes is gonna be like holy shit
People are making millions of dollars off this like podcasting thing that no one give a shit about eight years ago
Now it's a big thing which is I think gonna happen, dude probably of course. I see this shit. It's already this trend is already going
No, yeah, absolutely. It's been going. I mean, that's what got us into it. We saw the medium
Increase six plus years ago. I mean, it's been around for nine, ten years. But we were watching it.
The podcasting is on a rip right now. Yeah, it's on.
It's a starting to explode. And if you listen to people like Gary Vee and stuff like that,
he talks all about that, you know, the future is all audio, man. Like we're going to be multi-tasking,
doing so many things and like this whole phone, it's not going to be like that, dude. It's
going to be in your ears and it'll just be, you'll be able to be able to get it wherever you want and so audio is gonna be the future of how we die of it
I love it. Oh, I mean, too. I mean, it's fucking awesome to me. I listen to podcasts one of listening music
Right me too. Yeah, same here. Yeah, so for sure you that are audiobooks
I mean that I consume so much that way now
I had I give you guys a cool little hack from Tom Billy
Man this kind of changed my life about
The first time we had him was two and a half years ago.
You guys know who Tom Billion is?
It was a founder of Quest Nutrition.
Oh, I know exactly.
I have his phone number.
He came, as I knew them before, like Quest is cool.
Right, right, right.
So that's Tom, right?
And he has impact theory now.
Yeah.
And he, one of the first times we interviewed him,
we were talking about, like, you know, personal growth
and this and that, and we got into like reading.
And one of the things I've always struggled with reading
personally is, man, I for sure probably have ADD.
I've never been diagnosed with it, but I trail off.
Like I'll read a chapter and I'll read it back again.
So a fucking book takes me forever to get through, right?
So, and I've tried to train that skill set to be better,
and I have definitely gotten better at it.
But he's like, you know, I listen all audiobooks.
He's like, and he's a brilliant guy, right?
So he's telling me that I do all audiobooks
and he goes, and I listen to it at three speed.
And I'm like, oh, and when he first said it,
I'm like, well, I wish I could do that, you know.
I can't.
It's a fucking dope idea.
So listen, it's really smart.
So I went, I so I went and applied this, right?
So, and you can't, by the way, if you're listening to this,
you don't just jump in, you don't, you don't,
you don't go to the one side.
It goes, it goes and increments. I'm going to this you don't just jump in you know it goes it goes an increment it's a three it goes it
it's a five it goes up by increments of point two five right so 1.25 1.5 2 and
so I thought okay let me try this at 1.25 and what I picked up on right away
and what I was worried about so what I was worried about was I'm gonna I'm gonna
listen to this and I'm gonna trail off even more because now it's talking like the chipmunks, you know what I'm saying?
And it's gonna make me distract me
I'm not gonna like it. I won't listen and that's what most people I tell this to they think when I say that I won't listen
Just fucking trust me put in years like this and pay attention and watch what happens and what happens is because it's moving
Faster it forces you to concentrate more and you as you continue to press that the deeper you get into it
So as I start to press myself from 1.25 to 1.
And I did what do it after like every book or two I'd read.
So I'd read one book or two books at 1.25,
then the next two books I'd push up to 1.5,
then the next three books I put,
and so I kept pushing myself.
Then once I got to three speed,
I'm digesting like a whole fucking four, 500 page book,
in a couple hours dude.
And I'm retaining more of it than I've ever retained
in my life because it's coming through a fire hole.
I'm having to focus.
Do this shit tonight.
2018.
I'm going to wait to four.
I got a year of a thousand books.
I don't know if a four exists.
I got to be three years.
You're a thousand books.
So, just so you guys know, like we talked to the knowledge.
It's like, it's like, me and your man.
We talked this a long time ago, and so we actually have a ton of listeners.
You guys ever had tie-lobes on your park? No. Did you get him?
I'll get him now.
Okay. I'm interested in what you think of him when you get him.
I'm curious to what you think of him.
Do you have you have thoughts on him already?
He's like, don't get him on the park ass first.
Okay.
I got him.
No, wait, I don't want to.
No, I want to talk to him on the park ass.
Right.
I want to text him actually.
Oh boy.
Good deal.
Yeah, to me, that was a big hack.
It made it was a game changer.
It was speeding up, speeding that up,
retained way more.
And so we now actually have a ton of,
because we have 750 episodes on Mind Pump.
So we actually, this is dope.
People actually listen to us at two times.
Everybody who listens to us goes back
and listens to all seven of them.
We need to record two times faster.
Yeah.
Six to four times faster.
Well, I don't know how people can listen to me and you talk at two times.
We talk so fucking fast anyway.
That's gonna say, that's, yeah.
That's impressive, man.
Yeah, but they, yeah.
I have yet to do the speed audio.
Your fans are awesome too, by the way, I want to say.
Oh, appreciate it.
Yeah, they're fucking awesome.
Awesome feedback.
Good people, right?
Oh, our best. Oh, yeah. Great.
You should have seen what happened on the phone.
So check this out. So Jordan is, I'm going to put him on blast.
We've already plugged in my three or four times.
He's gone through in Peterson. No, no, no, no, no.
Jordan Harbinger. Yeah, with Arda Charm, he's broke off from them,
bro. That's his company. He built from, on nine years, he's going
through legal battles and is potentially losing his entire business and is now pivoting and starting from scratch again.
How fucking shitty is that?
So we had him on the show and we talked to him about the whole thing and he didn't go
into too many details because of the legal stuff but kind of divulged about the anxiety and
the stress, the depression, his fears and we went to our forum and posted the episode
and told people, hey, check this guy out,
support him, he's a good friend of ours and man,
the outpouring, the vouchers are making.
Our forum, okay.
Together on their own, not I was doing the rally together
and got everyone to go over to his brand new podcast
and fucking flood the reviews and share it all over their social,
and we didn't have to do anything because we,
we do have pretty gangster fans.
We do, for sure.
We can charge, so our podcast can charge sponsors as much as podcasts
that are like four to five times bigger than ours.
Because we convert at such a high rate,
because our audience, first of all,
they know we're not going to bullshit them.
So when we talk about a product,
everybody go get out to that too.
We waited two years when we were getting offered sponsorships
to even take one on, because we were getting thrown
all the stuff.
All of our sponsors are like, you guys are the highest converting.
I don't know how you guys do it.
We waited for stuff, they were like,
okay, we truly believed in.
This is something that I will use on a regular basis
and I don't mind sharing them out.
And it's in the once we did that, it obviously paid off.
So I've done with all my shit on Instagram.
I've always turned on every sponsorship.
Unless it was something that like,
well, I mean, I think there was only one situation
where I just kind of let it happen, but my
My me their need from me was very minimal like they just wanted me to take pictures in like what they had
And so I was like, okay, I could do this right it was never me like you guys got to go buy this shit everything honest
Yeah, everything I've ever like been a part of it. It's been mine ours, right?
Like so it's well that makes me feel good for then letting us film in your gym,
you know, I appreciate that.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah, that means a lot, man.
No, you guys do, I already told you guys,
but you guys are fucking awesome.
Like, your fans are awesome, you guys are dope.
Like, I'd love to continue to do anything together.
I appreciate that.
I mean, we were able to film,
we created a new program that'll be coming out soon,
but you let us graciously let us use your facility to film,
you know, for the program, so appreciate that.
That was awesome.
Any time, man.
Yeah, and I think that we'll keep, I'm sure this relationship will keep going, especially since you guys are loving this.
If you're digging more of this, I mean this is definitely our...
You guys come up to San Jose, you'll have a fucking time of your life.
No, I'm serious.
I'll be a great... I'm gonna come up in the next three weeks.
Okay.
We'll schedule it for sure.
It's gonna be scheduled before we make it happen.
