Starting point is 00:02:04 And I think you should all go get that free God, I love it. That's great. Audible is sick nasty. And I think you should all go get that free trial. I think they should add a little badge to their website that says Audible is sick nasty. Audible, we're sick nasty. That would make me click immediately. I want the sick nasty. Most people would.
Starting point is 00:02:21 They say Audible, we're sick nasty. I'd be like, yep. All right. I'm in. I'm in. I say audible. We're sick nasty. I'd be like, yep. All right. I'm in. I'm in. I'll join. Tell me about it.
Starting point is 00:02:30 You guys need to add this to your audible. Are you listening? I'm listening audible. Listen up. We have an idea. But today, other than talking about how sick nasty audible is, we're going to discuss the title Desperate Deadly Widows. It's actually the sequel to Rich Young Widows,
Starting point is 00:02:45 so definitely go listen to that first. It's another wonderful Audible exclusive. But today we're focusing on the sequel, Desperate Deadly Widows. I loved this title. This was made for me, I think. It was so good. It's so fun. I loved it. It was a lot of fun. I was a big fan.
Starting point is 00:03:03 And it was written actually by four authors, Kimberly Bell, Lane Fargo, Kate Hollahan and Vanessa Lilly. And each of them wrote for a different character. This blew my mind. Isn't that cool? I did not know that. Isn't that amazing? That is very cool. And then you could, now that I'm thinking about it, you could actually pick up on it. They're so distinct.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Yes. The characters. But it's interesting though, because the tone of the whole book overall is like very... So cohesive. Uniform and cohesive. Yeah. That's the thing you'd... Because I can't imagine writing with three other people. Like that must... I have no idea how these women did this and did it so well. Bravo. Because it sounds like such a task to undertake because you all have to be on the same page.
Starting point is 00:03:52 You all have to be open to feedback, to zhuzhing together. It needs to come out cohesive. And like it was written in one, you know. I wonder if they like locked themselves in a room or like a house for a few months and then wrote together. Yeah, first of all, they wrote this, I think they said in 12 weeks, right? That, my brain does not wrap around that fact.
Starting point is 00:04:17 And now I'm like kicking myself being like, right bitch. Because I'm like, what are you doing? Jesus. Well, instead of locking themselves in a house, they had Zoom meetings where, so they would all like write their character. Kim wrote Camille, Lane wrote Meredith, Kate wrote Justine, and Vanessa wrote Crystal. And then obviously, like as you're listening, there's pieces where like Camille will say something in Meredith's voice.
Starting point is 00:04:42 So they would give each other feedback and be like, oh character would say it this way. Yeah. So they had to like lock themselves in these zoom meetings. I think they said they had like hours long zoom meetings and they just kind of like got everything perfect and like in the right voices. I love that. I that's like the ultimate collaboration. It really is. And they nailed it. That's the thing. Like this could have gone It really is. And they nailed it. That's the thing. Like this could have gone wayward. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Group projects. Sideways. This could have gone into a different galaxy. 100%. And we would be like, whoa, ladies. But this, I'm like, whoa, ladies. Like this is so good. It's a good sickness to do that.
Starting point is 00:05:17 I wish you guys could see her face. She went from like this angry scowl, like whoa,, ladies, to all of a sudden, like, whoa, ladies. Like, so excited. And that's how I describe this is, whoa, ladies. Two thumbs up. Four thumbs up. Yeah, there you go.
Starting point is 00:05:37 And if you're listening or if you already have listened, you also know how incredible the voice actresses are. And the voices are so perfect for each character. They're what you picture when you, like it's just like, it makes sense. Oh, 100%. I have their like, I have them imaged out in my mind completely.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Crystal is my favorite. I'm obsessed with her. She's my favorite character, but also my favorite voice. The voice was amazing. She's so good. Her voice, this Italian mobster woman. Just like straight shooter.
Starting point is 00:06:07 I love her. So good. She is performed by Dina Perlman. Carissa Vacker performs Camille. Ariel Blake performs Justine. And Helen Lazer performs Meredith. So were you guys favorites of Crystal or did you have a different favorite? I really liked Camille.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I thought Camille was cool. I thought she was like, when I first started listening to her, I'm like, I don't think I like her character so much, but I just found her to be so warm as the book went on. And she's smart. And she's like unapologetic about who she was, the choices that she made, but she was also very kind. I feel like she grew a lot throughout the book.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Because in the beginning I was like, oh, Camille. Exactly, exactly. Then toward the end I was like, you get it. This experience made you flourish a little bit. Gross. That's how I felt. Krystal was just hilarious and awesome. I thought all of them were great in their own right.
Starting point is 00:07:05 But it was Camille that I was like, I love her because of her intense flaws, way about her. Her flaws and how she kind of overcomes some of them and works through some of them and is unapologetic for some of them. I was like, I love that. That's a character. Yes, and I love that she was like a lady's lady.
Starting point is 00:07:25 She was just power to her friends. Yeah. All the way through. And she could have been set up as something totally different. Very much so. Like, the total other way, and she wasn't. Like, that was what was cool. And even the way that, like, Justine and her
Starting point is 00:07:39 were still friends after everything happened, and like, worked their way through it. So, you know, like, that's girls being girls right there. We love it. And Justine had moments for me that were really, I was like, hell yeah, Justine. Yeah. Because there's one in particular that stands out to me. It's when, when they're talking, I think in the law firm and she says that she
Starting point is 00:08:00 stands up when Crystal is talking to her because she says, even if she's talking down to her, she's gonna have to look up at her. Look up, yeah. And I was like, hell yeah, Justine. Literally as I was listening to that, I was like, Alaina's gonna love that. I loved it.
Starting point is 00:08:13 It's just got like bad bitch energy. Yeah, 100%. Like what a good, like she, that was a mic drop moment. 100%, I loved it. I love a woman who just is like not afraid to be herself. Yeah. And I feel like none of them are. Like, even this is just like such a little moment.
Starting point is 00:08:30 But when Crystal realizes that Christopher Columbus is such an asshole, that's just like such a funny moment for her. And she's like, damn, he sucked. When she tries to use it as like a what? Like that's a day. Yeah. And Aiden's like, try again. I'm just gonna try again on that one. Well, even as simple as like her telling everybody
Starting point is 00:08:48 that like my son is a, like. Yeah. I don't know what language he used, but she's like, he's stupid. Yeah, he's stupid. He's an idiot. And she loved him anyways, but she's like, he's stupid.
Starting point is 00:08:59 She's just so real. She really is. And one of the other moments I was thinking of with Crystal actually is when Meredith and Crystal go to find Destiny and they're gonna go try to get information from her and they find her at the strip club and Meredith chases her off stage to interrogate her and the crowd is all pissed off.
Starting point is 00:09:18 And then Crystal gets on stage and everyone starts calling her like, Oh, hey, Mae West, like why don't you? And she does like a full on routine. And I was like, yes, girl. Lawyer with a side job. She knew it was important. She saw the in here.
Starting point is 00:09:34 She's like, you go do your thing. I will entertain these people. I will distract. We all got to play a part here. Exactly. It was so good. Exactly. There's so many moments like that too, that I feel like maybe we haven't all had
Starting point is 00:09:47 that specific moment with our friends, but it's like a... You have it? Maybe not that specific one. Not that one, but... But it's like, let me cover for you. Like, I got this. I love that.
Starting point is 00:09:55 But that's what's really special about this friendship. They all, I mean, apart from that little thing with Crystal and Justine, which they resolved, but I thought it was really nice that they all had each other's backs the entire time. They were all looking out for each other. They were all worried about, okay, I'm going, Meredith, even when she went to jail, she's like, we're not bringing anybody else in here. We're not roping any of these other girls in here.
Starting point is 00:10:23 And you could feel that they all had each other's backs the entire time. Even if it was like reluctant. They still would do it. Yes, yes, yes, exactly. Which is so real too. Sometimes you're like, I love you so much and I really don't wanna do this for you, but I will.
Starting point is 00:10:38 You're like, what the fuck, man? Exactly. Why are you making this choice? We'll discuss after I save your butt. Yeah, it's like the town, whose car we taking? Whose car we taking? Like it's just, okay, whose car we taking? Exactly.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Tell me the details. I also feel like the story as a whole had like almost, have you guys watched Desperate House Vibes? Yes. I still haven't finished it. I started it like last year and I'm in like this weird break where I'm like not watching anymore and I need to pick it up. And this title made me want to start it again.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Oh yeah, absolutely. Because I feel like it totally has that vibe. I never watched that, but I've seen like bits and pieces of it and it definitely has those vibes. I watched it and watched it and watched it and watched it some more. I watched way too much of that show. It's so good.
Starting point is 00:11:19 And I feel like the dynamic between the lives in Desperate Housewives is very similar to the dynamic here. Yeah. That's interesting. Well, so I actually thought of Desperate Housewives as well when I was listening to this title. And I think that I felt even more of a camaraderie
Starting point is 00:11:37 and even more of like a family feel with these women. And that's one thing that drew me into the book even more. Like they really felt like they were family. Yeah. And they're just like badass. Yeah. And that's the thing I love the most is just how capable they were, but also all flawed. Like they are real women that you know, that you've known, that you've loved, that you hated, that you've, you know, like it's nice to see that they aren't portrayed as like, they're like boss bitches for sure. All of them. 100%.
Starting point is 00:12:10 But they're not the kind that are going to step on the backs of other women to get where they think they can go by doing that. 100%. Like, I don't like reading about the kind of women who tell you like with pride that like, oh, I don't even know my employees names who gives a shit, you know what I mean? Like, they're just like, that's the kind of person I am. Like, I don't like those kind of people. Like, fuck those kind of people.
Starting point is 00:12:30 But I want to know these women more. And like, I feel like they came out as like so real and they have each other's backs. And I'm like, I want to hang out with you. Like, let's go out. And when those letters came out. Yes. I was like cheering up for Meredith. Like, let's go out. When those letters came out? Yes!
Starting point is 00:12:45 I was like, cheering up for Meredith. Can you imagine having people in your life that would do this for you? That means that you are a fantastic human being. Even though this is a job that you're doing that I wouldn't necessarily have chosen for myself. It doesn't matter. You're unapologetic about it. And you are doing it to the best of your abilities with the kindest of intentions. Yes, that's the thing. And I love reading about that.
Starting point is 00:13:11 I was like, yes, thank you for giving us those kind of strong, powerful women. And they were also different. That aren't fucking each other over. So, so, so different. So different. And I feel like that's what makes up the friend group. Because even in my friend group, I can point to who's the Meredith, who's the Camille, who's the this one. And it makes sense for like, it translates into real life.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Yeah, this is like Sex and the City all over. It really is. It really is. It's true. Yeah. And like a grittier Sex and the City. Yes, a little bit. The Rhode Island version. Yeah, the Rhode Island, the Providence Rhode Island version. I was going to say, make it Providence.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Well, that's the thing. It is gritty because obviously the entire story kicks off with the murder of- With the moita. The mayor of the town. That's pretty intense. Yeah. And you can tell pretty quickly that our widows don't have anything to do with the actual murder itself.
Starting point is 00:14:00 They're wrapped up in it, wrong place, wrong time. Yeah, very much. I feel like personally, and especially, obviously obviously you guys are listening to morbid. Me and Elena, I feel like we're pretty good at like predicting who a killer is. Yeah. Did you know? No, that's what I was going to say. Usually I do a good job of figuring it out, but I couldn't like they did a good job with the red herrings because I'd be like, oh, maybe it's this person. But then it would completely turn me around. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Well, at what point did you realize who the murderer was? And we won't spoil who it is. Oh, we're not? No. Shoot. I was about to. At what point did I realize who it was? Probably during that kiss.
Starting point is 00:14:42 That makes sense. During the kiss was when I realized what was happening. They were on my radar. The person who it was, but I was not. They were not like the final in my mind. Well, and what I like about it is like, it's very intricate. Technically, there's a couple killers. It's a complex web.
Starting point is 00:15:04 It is. And it's, like I said, like the red herrings along the way, like you start to point to one person and then you point to another and it's like everybody had their piece in it. Yeah, it's true. 100%. One thing that can tip you off though, if you're like, cause they did a really good job at planting little clues along the way that you don't know or don't think are gonna come back. And then when they come back at the end, you're like, oh shit, that's that person.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Like the death threats, the notes that were coming to me or Tom. There's a specific thing in those death threats that comes back at the end that someone, they're in all the notes and then somebody says it towards the end and you're like, wait a second. And it literally comes down to like one word. Yep. What did you call me? And that's like skilled writing. Oh, absolutely. That's skilled thriller mystery writing is to be able to carry that.
Starting point is 00:15:59 And have it hit the way that this one hit. You're like, oh shit. Right. Because sometimes you're like, wait, what? Like you heard that before, but they made it enough where you remembered it. Definitely. Yeah, and it was such a specific thing
Starting point is 00:16:10 that you wouldn't hear it in everyday sentences. Because when we got to the end and like that whole little thing happened, I was like, oh, I remember that. Like, it came back. As far as themes, I feel like we obviously like kind of touched on the theme of we see these women come together, they lift each other up.
Starting point is 00:16:28 I feel like one of the themes obviously is like sisterhood even through conflict. And obviously these women are bonded through tragedy if you listen to the first title. Anything else you guys thought of theme wise? I mean one of the themes that was super important in this story is the fight around indigenous rights. Yes, for sure. That's huge. It's really prevalent in this and like in the real world, to be honest, to see people
Starting point is 00:16:51 being so callous and cold about building over literal sacred land. Yeah. And people are just offering up and in the title, people are just offering up dollar signs to try and buy this land up. And then they're getting upset or offended or pissed when the members of the community don't wanna just like take the deal to develop over their ancestors' bodies. It's like, money's not gonna make me do that.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Thanks though. Absolutely. Thanks for asking. Yeah, thanks so much. Like, wow, that was so nice of you. And I think they touched upon it really well. And I mean, the whole damn, and it's real because the whole damn Providence Place mall is built on sacred land, like real
Starting point is 00:17:30 nuts and in real life. And one of the authors, Vanessa Lilly is actually an indigenous woman. So she, I love that she wrote that in because of it. And she did such a good job with it. And she took the conversation, the conversation that Aiden and Camille had, it was so real. And it comes from a real place. Yes. Definitely. In an informed place because she can speak on it and she partnered with members of the community to make sure that all the information throughout the title was accurate and coming
Starting point is 00:18:02 from a real accurate place, which is really cool. Yeah. It makes it really different. It's got like a special touch on it. Yeah, it does. It adds something to it. And like you were saying with the like Camille and Aiden conversation, I even feel like that's more of Camille's growth, like throughout the book, you know. That softness came out a lot in there.
Starting point is 00:18:19 It really did. But the fact that she was able to pick up on it, I said, like I said to myself, like that speaks mountains to her character, that she was able to pick up on it, I said to myself, like that speaks mountains to her character, that she was able to pick up on it, even though she was like, she came in guns blazing, like who do I have to kill to get myself free? And he was soft towards her and she was soft towards him. I thought that was really special.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Yeah, it's like they brought it out in each other. Yeah, they're sweet. Another one of the themes that I thought was amazing was just watching these amazing women, these empowered women stand up for themselves. Yes, big time. Like, no, I'm not gonna lay down because you all have money and you guys are throwing your money at this problem.
Starting point is 00:19:01 These are solid values that we are gonna stand by. We're not going to let you abuse these people. We're not going to let you abuse us just because you have more money than we do. We're not going to be your scapegoats. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. I loved that. It was definitely like, you're reading it and you're like, yeah, this is like a cautionary tale about society. Absolutely. Sometimes rich people are just wild as fuck. Yeah. You know?
Starting point is 00:19:27 But I love also that it all takes place in the 80s. I know. That's a fun part of this whole thing. It's funny because there's little bits where you're like, oh yeah, this is the 80s. We're in the 80s. Yeah. But it doesn't feel dated. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:19:38 No. But I forgot that that was the case. Yeah. When Camille goes up to the yacht, I was like, why didn't she just pull out her phone? Oh, that's why. She's lucky if she has a pager. Yeah, exactly. Truly.
Starting point is 00:19:54 But I swear, I was thinking to myself like, these girls, like, they're smart, but damn, use a cell phone. Where's your phone at? They didn't have any quarters with them. No, they did not. They didn't use a pay phone. The couple parts with the yacht, it got so intense. We won't spoil that, but that's a key point in the story.
Starting point is 00:20:13 I was like, what's going to happen? Yeah. Okay, so let's play a couple little games, because you know, at Morbid, we love a game. We love a game. I feel like we should take the four characters and almost pretend like we're casting a film and cast each one.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Love that. For that. So let's start with Crystal. Do you want me to start or do you want to start, Alina? Um, you can start. Okay. I feel like I see Crystal as Dreah D. Mateo, I think is how you say it, because she gives me Adriana LaCerba vibes from The Sopranos.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Oh, yeah. Right? Like the curly hair. And I could even see her doing up the accent like she did in Sopranos. Like, Christopher. I could see Marisa Tome. I just feel like she would be perfect. She would crush that. I think I agree with that. Yeah, yeah. I could definitely do that.
Starting point is 00:21:01 Okay. How about Meredith? Yeah, definitely. I could definitely do that. Okay, how about Meredith? Meredith, I think, and actually like Mikey came up with this one and I think it's, I was like, yep, that's it. We checked. Emmy Rossum. Oh, from Shameless?
Starting point is 00:21:15 From Shameless, yeah. Yeah. She's, because she's got that like scrappy. Yeah, very gritty. That hard edge. Yeah. But she's this like beautiful, just like take no shit girl. Like I just love her.
Starting point is 00:21:25 I think she would be perfect. I said Gillian Jacobs. And I was thinking of the same thing, like Scrappy. I don't know if you guys have watched Love, her character, Mickey. I haven't. I feel like you would love it. It's funny. She was in Community too.
Starting point is 00:21:37 In Community, yeah. And she kind of plays that, like, badass girl, who, like, once you kind of, like, break down the wall does have that softer side. Yep. I could very much see it. I see Jennifer Coolidge.
Starting point is 00:21:49 Oh my god. I would love that. That would be amazing. She would be my Meredith. That would be amazing. You do a good Jennifer Coolidge. Now I want to see this movie with Jennifer Coolidge. Yes.
Starting point is 00:22:00 I'm down. And as a nice segue, I see, oh gosh, Reese Witherspoon as Camille. Oh, now I wish I thought of that. That's a good one. I agree with that even more than the pick that I made. I thought Anya Taylor Joy. And that was my pick too, Anya Taylor Joy. Yeah, we agreed on that.
Starting point is 00:22:25 But now I'm kind of thinking Reese Witherspoon. Oh gosh, I would kill to see Reese Witherspoon in that. Yeah. I would love to see Anya Taylor Joy too. I think she's really good in like the menu and what was it? Last Night in Soho? Yeah, Last Night in Soho. She's good in that kind of like slinky, like I need to get the information I need kind of thing or get
Starting point is 00:22:45 what I need out of this situation. She's really good at that kind of role. She's got that like old Hollywood kind of face and like beauty. And simplicity, but like so beautiful. Yeah. But also like you were saying like, well, like has the vibe of we can get shit done. Oh yeah. You know? Absolutely. But yeah, Reese Witherspoon is also a good one. I'm tied now. Yeah. And then what about Justine?
Starting point is 00:23:07 What did you guys think for Justine? I said Tessa Thompson. Hmm. She's been in a few things. If you look her up, I just, I don't, she just like, I could see her. Yeah, she has false fits energy. I think one of the things I knew her from,
Starting point is 00:23:20 and I was like, why do I know this movie? Like, why did I, it's from like 2012 or something. What is it? It's Murder on the 13th Floor. I don't know if I've seen that. And it's one of those like, you know, she's a nanny for a family and she's having an affair with the father.
Starting point is 00:23:33 And the mom is like, the wife is like this awful human being and they don't even love each other. Oh, great. Love that. It's this whole thing. And there's like, you know, a murder happens. It's kind of like, it's got these vibes of like a murder mystery to it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:46 But she's really good. And she's like really likable and has like a badass edge to her, but it's like a softer badass edge to her. Okay. Like really capable kind of. Yeah. She just reminds me of it. I see that.
Starting point is 00:24:00 Yeah. I like that. I could see her. I said Zendaya for like pretty much all the same reasons. Yes. Like I think of her character in Eu Zendaya for pretty much all the same reasons. Yes. Like I think of her character in Euphoria and she goes through a lot of hard times in Euphoria if you've watched it.
Starting point is 00:24:11 But then you kind of see her character soften toward the ends of the season. And I feel like that's the same thing for Justine. Oh yeah, I could see that. Mine is a little controversial. That's okay. Meghan Markle. Meghan Markle!
Starting point is 00:24:24 No, I like that actually. That's an interesting one. I mean, I just loved her in suits. Yeah. And I just feel like she had this hard edge, she had this soft edge. No, that's a good one. She got shit done.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Yeah. Is she a lawyer in suits? I have a lot of suits. She's a paralegal. So boom. Yeah. She already has the experience. Yeah, she had that grit to climb.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Yeah. But also she was just super soft at times too. Yeah. I feel like that's a key theme among all these four women. They're well-rounded. Yeah, they really are. All of them have that hard edge, but all of them have their moments of softness. They're multifaceted like diamonds.
Starting point is 00:24:58 I feel like that's just like womanhood. All women. That's womanhood. Exactly. That's girlhood, baby. That'll be everything. Yes. I love that. Okay, now how about. Like all women. That's womanhood. Exactly. That's girlhood, baby. Yes. I love that.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Okay. Now, how about a most likely to? Let's go. So most likely to win Survivor. Ooh. Okay. I got to go Crystal. I got to go Crystal too.
Starting point is 00:25:16 Yeah. She's so scrappy. I would say Crystal. Maybe Meredith though. Yeah. Meredith was going to be one of my... Because I feel like she could get it done. She would make the alliances that she needed to make to get to like... Kill it with kindness. Yeah, Meredith was going to be one of my... Because I feel like she could get it done. She would make the alliances that she needed
Starting point is 00:25:26 to make to get to like... Kill it with kindness. Yeah. And then she'd get that final jury vote, I feel like. Maybe. Yeah, she's got that... Will. Yeah. Strong will. Yeah. Because she's like... Yeah, I think that Meredith is... And think about all the creeps that she's had to deal with. Exactly. Whereas sometimes...
Starting point is 00:25:43 She's had to think of ways around situations. That's actually such a good point. Whereas like Crystal was like, when you heard the thoughts in her head, you could tell that there was a lot of insecurity there. Like, oh, is what he's saying true? A lot of doubt. Yeah, there's a lot of self doubt. Whereas with Meredith, I never felt that there was that self doubt.
Starting point is 00:26:00 She's like, sit down little man. That's a really good point. Meredith was one of my first thoughts. And the scrappiness of Crystal might piss off the other contestants. It's true. And then they might try to spoken. They might just be like, see ya.
Starting point is 00:26:11 Yeah, that's a really good point. Yeah. All right, most likely to be the maid of honor in your wedding. You had strong thoughts about this right off the bat. Not Camille. You can't be Camille. Why not?
Starting point is 00:26:20 I love Camille. We love her growth. But she's gonna fuck your husband. She might, there's always the possibility that she will sleep with your husband. The possibility is never zero. This is true, but it's never zero, even if she's not the maid of honor. That's true. But I'm not going to invite her all up in bed.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Do you think that maybe it would deter her from being that person? No. No. I don't know. Camille strikes me as matrimony, you say? It's husband. I don't know. Camille strikes me as matrimony, you say? It's just, I don't know. So I think Crystal maybe, because she seems like she's scrappy.
Starting point is 00:26:52 She's gonna get you, if shit goes awry during that day, she's gonna be the one that goes up to your wedding planner and is like, listen bitch, my girl needs this right now and you're gonna go get it done. What about Meredith? Do it kindly. I'd rather to go get it done. That's true. What about Meredith who would like... Meredith. Do it kindly.
Starting point is 00:27:06 I'd rather Crystal. What? Just for the drama. I love the drama. For the drama. I thought Crystal at first too for those very reasons. But now I'm thinking, what about Justine? Because she is calm, cool, and collected.
Starting point is 00:27:18 Diplomatic. Diplomatic. Yeah, very diplomatic. Like she's the one rooting for Nancy, which is quite a choice. Yeah, it's true. But she looks at all sides of things. So she's the one rooting for Nancy, which is quite a choice. Yeah, it's true. But she looks at all sides of things. So she could give you the full picture. But did she?
Starting point is 00:27:30 Sometimes. Well, yeah. No, no, no. Actually, no. You're like, well, ehh. And at the end, she had this moment where she's like, I'm going to really reassess how I approach people. Yeah, so maybe not Justine.
Starting point is 00:27:42 So who's final verdict? Meredith or Crystal? I think Meredith. You think Meredith? She's going like, because Crystal's going to flip a table and get shit done. Do you want that on your wedding day? Yeah. Let's go. Again, if you guys can see the look on her face right now. She's like, let's go. Let's go. Behind the scenes. That's the thing. I want her flipping tables to get stuff done for me and then walking out and being like, hello. There is no way Crystal.
Starting point is 00:28:10 One thing that happens at your wedding that's absolutely insane. So if it's Crystal flipping a table, for me that's very Teresa Judiche. So let's go. I got to go Crystal now. You got to go Crystal. But I see Meredith. There you go. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Wait, can I just ask a question? Yeah. Was Alina that for your wedding? Like, was I, can I just ask a question? Yeah. Was Alaina that for your wedding? Like, flip the table crazy? No, but during the bustling of my dress, people were arguing and Alaina came in there and she said, step aside, bitches. I got this. And one lady was like, no, I know how to do it.
Starting point is 00:28:40 And she looked at her and that girl just backed her. She pulled a crystal. She pulled a little bit of a crystal and my bustle was perfect. It worked. I was like, I'll do it. She was like, I watched a tutorial on how to do it. The lady showed me, I got it. I got this, bitches. And they let me do it.
Starting point is 00:28:55 I was fully confident that she would flip a table if need be. She is kind of like a crystal. Oh, Alayna is a crystal. Actually, real quick moment. Who would you be? You'd quick moment. Who would you be? You'd be crystal. Who would you be, Sheena? Like who do you think you are?
Starting point is 00:29:12 Who do you think you are? Who do you think you are? I don't know. Really? Who do you think I am? I think you have elements of Meredith. Because you get shit done. I do get shit done.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Yeah. And you do it in like a kind of a fanciful way. I mean, I don't know if my family would agree with me. No, I think they would. But thank you. If you actually hold them, they'd be like, yeah, like mom, mom does get shit done. And she does it in a good way.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Yeah. And you're, I think I am a Camille. I think you are. I will not fuck I think... I am a Camille. I think you are! I will not fuck your husband, I swear. I swear. But like that good southern girl, like flirty energy. We always say that you have like a southern belle inside of you. And there's this like old soulness to you that just like rung out from Camille for me.
Starting point is 00:30:02 Very true. I could see that. I get that a lot. Yeah. All the nice parts. Thank you. Yeah, not the get that a lot. Yeah. All the nice parts. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. Not the fuck your husband parts. Not the fuck your husband part. I like that we all have a person.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Yes. I love that. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Most likely to cry at a rom-com. Camille. Justine? I was going to say Justine. You think Justine? Why? Yeah. She's had moments. She's going through a lot. She's going through a lot. She really going through. People are really mean to her. Justine? I was going to say Justine. You think Justine? Why? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:25 She's going through a lot. She's going through a lot. She really going through. People are really mean to her. Yeah. She needs to let it out. It's a true. She's got a rough time at home.
Starting point is 00:30:33 Yeah. Though I was super impressed with the way that she handled everything that went down with her mother-in-law. Yeah. Her mother-in-law is always so snarky and she still was like, no, I want my son to have a relationship. She held it together. So maybe not, maybe Camille.
Starting point is 00:30:47 But I found Camille to be like really smart about how she handled herself and things around her. She had a soft side to her. She'd do it in the privacy of her own home, not in front of others. Yeah, great. I could see that. I'm glad you brought that up about Justine's mother-in-law
Starting point is 00:31:04 because I was like, I hate you. Like, you're really mean and go away. She was really mean. She was awful. Yeah, it wasn't cool. And then didn't Chris... Wait, Crystal told her off. Yeah, she's like, listen here, lady. Yeah, she was like, fuck you. This is just not okay. Yeah, stop being a dick.
Starting point is 00:31:18 That's friendship right there. That's friendship. After she was horrible to me. Yeah, but that's such like, that's so hilarious. It's so much. I know. I could say whatever I want to you because we're besties, but she- Yes, because you're my family, but not her.
Starting point is 00:31:31 She can't talk to you like that. But I'll write it down for you. Yeah. Okay, because it was the 80s, who's going to be the biggest fan of the hair bands? Hmm. I think Meredith. I could see Meredith and Krystal being- Yeah, top two right there.
Starting point is 00:31:46 Because I think like back when Meredith was like working at the club, I feel like I could see her performing to the hair band songs. Like she could pour some sugar on me. 100%. I think my vote is for Crystal. Really? I see both. I could see both of them being down for like poison and like Molly Crue. And a sweat suit. Yes, I could absolutely see both. I could see both of them being down for like poison and like Mali crew.
Starting point is 00:32:05 And a sweatsuit. Yes. I could absolutely see this. I love that. I love the hair everywhere, like all the hairspray. The Hades feathered bangs. I can see that. Yes. All right. And last but not least, who does the best Madonna impression?
Starting point is 00:32:18 Camille. Camille. Camille. Yeah. Easy. Ultimate tie right there. Yes. That was a lot of fun. I love talking about that with. Yeah. That was a lot of fun. I love talking about that with you guys.
Starting point is 00:32:26 That was really nice. Anytime we can talk about things like this, like a book club, audio book club, any kind of book club, I'm into it. Can I send you guys another title? Please. Yes. So while I was listening to this title, I saw that they had A Court of Thorns and Roses. That's been recommended to me a lot.
Starting point is 00:32:43 That book series is incredible. So listen to this title. They have it on Audible. It's amazing. I feel like the fantasy element of that too, like on Audible would be really fun to listen to. Oh yeah. I bet the voices are really good. So yeah, so I think that you guys should listen to it. I actually read the book, but I'm so curious to know how they are going to approach it with the voices, the voice actors, that I will probably go home and start that one tonight. Hell yeah. I would definitely listen to that. Can we regroup in a couple weeks and do this first? Should we just do like a straight up book club? I love that idea. I'm always for a book club.
Starting point is 00:33:26 I'm in. One, two, three, book club. Do you have an audible recommendation over there, Broie? I do, actually. I love, love, love audible. I do too. Big audible gal. They're sick nasty.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Sick nasty. I really mean it. I don't call just anything sick nasty. It's true. She doesn't. No, she really doesn't. I really mean it. I don't call just anything sick nasty. It's true. She doesn't. No, she really doesn't. I really don't. So I started listening to Needful Things by Stephen King. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:33:52 And it's narrated by my guy, Stephen as well. I love when the title is narrated by the author. Oh, and it's just like, Stephen King does a great narration too. Of Stephen King's writing. Only he can do it the way that he needs to be done. I mean that checks. It's true. Yeah. I love that. My recommendation is Murder Your Employer. I love that. It's a really good title. Okay. And one of the narrators is Neil Patrick Harris. Oh, I love that. Who wouldn't want to listen to that? Yeah. I love that. His voice is like butter. Butter. Butter.
Starting point is 00:34:25 And hasn't everybody felt that way once or twice? Yeah. Who hasn't? Right. Yes. You can also listen to The Butcher and the Wren audiobook. You can also do that. Who's the one who narrated that one? It wasn't me.
Starting point is 00:34:37 It wasn't the author. But they were great. Joe and Sophie, my wonderful voice actors, did Jeremy and Wren. They're really good. And they're amazing. Love that. And Sophie is from New Orleans. You can tell.
Starting point is 00:34:51 So she has that perfect little Louisiana accent in there. Like it's got that good little like just a hint of it in there. Yep. They did a great job. Certain words that comes out and I'm like, oh, you're in New Orleans. Love that. But yeah, you can listen to that if you want. And The Butcher Game will be out on audiobook.
Starting point is 00:35:07 Same actors. In September. And I guess you'll just have to wait and see about that. Amazing. But you can preorder that one. Where? Two. On Audible.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Do it. On Audible. Do it. So do it now. It'll be sick nasty if you do that. It will be sick nasty. You guys don't understand what kind of a compliment this is because Alaina does not give out compliments like this.
Starting point is 00:35:32 No, but when she does, they're always in this form. They're always aggressive. She'll say, you're so beautiful, I want to punch you in the face. I violently compliment. You're a violent complimenter. You have violently complimented me a couple of times and I'm like, oh, thank you. I don't know if I should put up my arms in defense or say thank you.
Starting point is 00:35:51 You look so pretty. I want to punch you in the face. And you're like, wow. Thanks. Don't. Mikey always says, I am a trigger warning. Yes. I need a shirt that says, I am a trigger warning.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Be careful. I love it. need a shirt that says trigger warning. Trigger warning. Be careful. I love it. Proceed with caution. All right. This was so fun. Thank you, Shishi, Sheena Mellwani for joining us today. Thank you for having me. That was so fun.

Nancy's love story could have been ripped right out of the pages of one of her own novels. She was a romance mystery writer who happens to be married to a chef. But this story didn't end with a happily ever after. When I stepped into the kitchen, I could see that Chef Brophy was on the ground
Starting point is 00:39:02 and I heard somebody say, call 911. As writers, we'd written our share of murder mysteries. So when suspicion turned to Dan's wife, Nancy, we weren't that surprised. The first person they look at would be the spouse. We understand that's usually the way they do it. But we began to wonder, had Nancy gotten so wrapped up in her own novels,
Starting point is 00:39:22 There are murders in all of the books. that she was playing them out in real life? You can listen to Happily Never After, Dan & Nancy early and ad-free right now by joining Wondery Plus in the Wondery app or on Apple Podcasts.
