Murdaugh Murders Podcast - TSP #80 - "Keep Checks" and Chaos: JP Miller's Costly Pattern Of Tithing The Taxpayers - Plus! The Curious Case of the Vanishing Traffic Tickets
Episode Date: December 27, 2024Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Beth Braden look at the actions and interactions of JP Miller, a South Carolina pastor, following the death of his wife, Mica Miller. Our investigation dives... into 'sooooo' many police reports filed involving Miller, his church, and protestors, raising questions about potential police bias and insufficient investigations into serious allegations against Miller, including potential human trafficking and assault. The reports also highlight Miller's frequent traffic violations and his apparent disregard for advice to avoid further police attention, especially given an ongoing FBI investigation. The overall narrative suggests a pattern of questionable behavior by both JP Miller and local law enforcement. Hey! Get away from my fries!
Oh yeah, book with your local travel advisor or at...
I don't know what exactly the FBI was looking for when they raided JP Miller's house with
more than two dozen agents, but I do know that the police have generated more than 60
reports regarding JP Miller, Solid Rock Church, and or the Justice for Micah protesters since
Micah died in April.
And we need to talk about what is inside those reports.
My name is Mandi Matney.
This is True Sunlight, a podcast exposing crime and corruption previously known as the Murdoch Murders Podcast.
True Sunlight is a Lunashark production and this special episode is written with journalist Beth Braden. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a Happy New Year from the beaches of Florida!
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible members, steadfast pescatarians,

of our sponsors makes this work possible.
Our stockings this year and those we care about were filled with great gifts from Etsy,
Quince, Peloton, CV Distillery, Blue Nile, Pros, Bombas, Me&Bs, A, aura frames, and more. This week we're diving deep back into the ever-complex world surrounding J.P. Miller
and believe us when we say, there's a lot to unpack.
We will start by unraveling the latest filings from J.P. Miller's churchy business, including
some interesting name changes and a haunting payment receipt. Then we'll be examining the costly pattern of police interactions with J.P. Miller and
his church by whatever name they're going by these days.
But it gets even more shocking as reporter Beth Braden got back some very bizarre 911
calls in the stack of FOIAs that she has been filing.
From an accusation of
alleged human trafficking at his home to a string of reports involving
suspicious cameras and potential stalkings, you will hear about the numerous
times police were called to JP Miller's home or church for various reasons. We
will also dive into JP's own calls to the police revealing how he presents himself
versus the reality of the situations.
And we will explore how law enforcement's interactions with JP Miller sharply contrast
with their treatment of Micah.
Finally, we will look at JP's continued disregard for the law with a series of traffic
violations and what this all could mean given
the circumstances of an ongoing investigation.
Again, this episode is packed with information that continues to raise questions about accountability
and justice.
Let's dive in.
Last week, we reported on some new business filings in J.P. Miller's ecosystem, including what looked like somebody's
attempt to start a new ministry called Mercy Church Ministries using a misspelled version
of J.P.'s maternal grandmother's name, as well as the names of two other women associated with Solid
Rock and Faith First Academy. Since our last episode, Mercy Church Ministries has filed a series of amendments with the
South Carolina Secretary of State.
Its address is now at Pro Pack and Ship in Myrtle Beach.
That's one of those places where you can ship packages and also rent a box to have your
mail delivered to. The registered agent has also been updated from M-O-L-L-I-E Fleming to M-O-L-L-Y Fleming,
the correct spelling of JP's maternal grandmother's name.
Just like I did last week, I also asked the Secretary of State's office for the payment
receipt so I could see who paid for these changes to the Mercy Church Ministries filing. It was J.P. Miller.
Last week's receipts from the Secretary of State's office were so revealing
that I also asked for the receipts from October,
when Solid Rock updated its official address
and when Living Water Ministries was registered with the state.
The Solid Rock address update from October 23rd was what I expected for the most part.
But the October 17th filing from when Living Water Ministries was registered? That one
made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The registered agent for Living
Water Ministries is JP with the Cold Water Circle address, but the customer
information has the name of Trisha Ross with a mailing address on Cold Water
Circle. The phone number listed is Trisha Ross with a mailing address on Coldwater Circle.
The phone number listed is Trisha's number, according to sources.
The username used to sign into the Secretary of State's website and the email provided
in the Customer Information field is mica miller 777 at gmail dot com.
Now, first let me point out that we already know that the Secretary of State isn't necessarily
fact checking the information they receive.
We don't know for certain that Trisha is the person at the computer who filed this document.
But we absolutely know that email address was Micah's, and she was using it in the
months leading up to her death.
Earlier this summer, we discussed a series of emails Micah exchanged with the Secretary
of State's office. In January 2024, she used Micah Miller 777 to contact them regarding a typo
in her notary paperwork. On February 17th, Micah's sister Sierra texted Micah's friend Charlotte
to let her know that Micah didn't have access to her phone, Facebook, or email. That same day,
Micah used an email address of micahmillerd2cm at gmail.com to reach out to the Secretary of State's office and tell them that JP had
her notary stamp.
The D2CM after her name is likely a reference to the Dare to Care ministry that she was
reportedly trying to get off the ground around that time.
Three days later, on February 20th at 11 a.m., the Secretary of State's office replied to Micah's email
and let her know that they would make a note about her stamp
and encouraged her to contact police and a lawyer
regarding her situation with JP.
The Dare to Care mission email address
was no longer deliverable and kicked an error message back.
So at 11.14 a.m., the Secretary of State's office forwarded the response to Micah Miller 777,
the email address they'd used to communicate with Micah in Tricia Ross's email address.
And at 1140 AM, JP emailed the Secretary of State and copied Charles Randall on the
email.
Here's David reading the email JP sent.
Greetings, Kataria.
My name is JP Miller.
I'm Micah Miller's husband.
I have also included our bishop, Charles Randall, on this email.
I saw the email you sent to my wife and I just wanted to assure you that she is in no
danger and all is well.
She was recently left the mental hospital here in MB at South Strand and since getting
out she has not come home and is still suffering from bipolar and
schizophrenia. We are doing all we can to help her and her seal that she is so worried about
is perfectly safe. Thank you, JP Miller." According to JP's own words in his July 2024
probate filing, he went to Waccamaw the next day, February 21st, to fill
out probate papers in an attempt to have Micah hospitalized again.
We don't know if Micah ever had possession of Micah Miller 777 at gmail.com again after
JP reportedly took control of it in February.
But after seeing the receipt from the Secretary of State's office, it looks like JP or somebody in his orbit is still using the account.
The other situation we want to take a look at this week is all of the times police in
Myrtle Beach and Horry County have been called to handle something to do with JP Miller,
Solid Rock, or the protesters. And as we talk about J.P. Miller's contact with police, we have to hold a thought in
each hand.
On one hand, we're dealing with a guy who has had regular contact with the police for
arguably negative reasons.
He's had more than 50 traffic tickets since he started driving in the mid-90s.
There's no way to know how many more times he might have been pulled over and let go
with a warning down of, please slow down, pastor.
He was also charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in 1998 after
a woman was struck with his truck twice.
He ended up pleading guilty and was a convicted felon until he was pardoned on May 31, 2022.
Now let's switch over to the other hand.
On that hand, we're dealing with a man who wants police to see him as a credible community leader who deserves respect.
Think about the audio from the pardon hearing.
How's it going to help you? What are you looking to do?
I guess I'm just looking for a little bit of forgiveness.
And I think that it would, with the lieutenants and the police
women in our congregation, it just adds to my,
I guess the things that I've accomplished in the past 20
something years.
It just feels weird having a charge on your record like that, especially one of how it took place.
A pardon would help him with the lieutenants in his congregation. How so? Because when he called
on police for help, they would see a reformed man forgiven in the eyes of God and the government?
That's certainly what it looks like. We've talked about how
JP allegedly weaponized the police against Micah and her family in the months leading
up to her death, and how cops didn't appear to find her credible. The first time we see
it so blatantly is in November 2022, less than six months after his pardon, when he
name dropped Lieutenant Heather Wilson in the parking lot of Waccamaw Mental
Health Center where Micah was seeking help that JP allegedly didn't want her to get.
Then, remember how an Horry County CAD report from February 2024 noted her as 1096,
which is the code for a mentally unwell person? In that call, Micah was at Buckees in Florence
and told officers she was concerned that family
members at the Coldwater Circle home would misuse naked photos of her on one of the two
laptops she knew was there. Micah was to be ignored, but JP appears to expect the police
to ask how high when he says jump.
I took another look at all of his contact with law enforcement since her death because it's a lot.
There have been more than 60, that's six zero, reports generated by law enforcement
regarding JP Miller, Solid Rock Church, and or the Justice for Micah protesters since
Micah died.
And that doesn't include random patrols around the church, a handful of medical calls, the time Suzy Skinner reported that she was being harassed,
or the assault call in which church member Robert Lachell allegedly used a sprinkler to spray protesters with water in July.
So as for the dozens of police reports generated since Micah's death, that number also excludes JP's newer traffic tickets.
Since Micah died, he's gotten five tickets, the newest of which was issued on December
6th for going more than 15 miles over the speed limit.
And this is after the FBI raided his house and after he was arrested for assault in November.
How does this guy still have a driver's license?
As we walk through some of the calls, I'm going to skip most of the keep check reports
I see in the Myrtle Beach Police Department CAD reports. There have been 21 of those logged
since Micah's death. Keep checks are when an officer on patrol calls in a specific area
where he or she is patrolling. But, there is one keep check that stuck out to me.
It happened on April 28th at 9.23 a.m.,
the morning after Micah died.
Solid Rock was still having two Sunday services then.
The first one was at 9.20 for the early birds,
followed up by a second service at 11.
Sources tell me that JP made his bizarre
announcement about Micah's death after both services. We already know that
Myrtle Beach Police knew that Micah was dead because they had attempted to make
a next-of-kin notification the night before by going to Micah's apartment.
And it's clear that the investigation was still very much open. Was the Myrtle Beach Police Department keeping an eye out to report back to Robeson County?
This April 28th keep check seemed odd because it's not like this was happening every other
Sunday at Solid Rock.
Prior to April 28th, police weren't logging so much as traffic control after church services
let out. There was a keep check on April 17th and a public assistance CAD report generated on
February 8th, but that's it for 2024 prior to Micah's death.
And the February 8th incident appears to be an officer happening upon a situation where
somebody needed assistance and Solid Rock was the closest address to call in to dispatch.
But Micah's death changed everything about police contact with JP and Solid Rock
in both Myrtle Beach and Horry County's jurisdictions.
Instead of just JP's traffic tickets and occasional traffic control,
police have had to deal with something Solid Rock related basically every week,
sometimes multiple times a week since April 28th. Police have had to deal with something solid rock related basically every week, sometimes
multiple times a week since April 28th.
We think the people of Horry County need to hear this because guess what?
JP and his church are costly to the taxpayers, and they need to know what's going on here.
First, let's go through all of the significant times that people called the police regarding
J.P. Miller or the church.
On May 1, there was a late night call from a neighbor reporting alleged human trafficking
at J.P.'s house.
This call was Horry County Police jurisdiction.
The report notes that someone called police because, quote, there are a bunch of young Oriental females,
yes, it actually says Oriental females,
inside the residence, end quote.
The report notes specifically that this is the house
where the preacher's wife came up 10-7,
two days after file divorce.
Here's the 911 call.
Part of it is redacted,
but listen to the details we have here.
Hello, Kenny. Hello? call. Part of it is redacted, but listen to the details we have here. This is Rory Kenny Dispatch. Can I help you? Sure, I was talking to a lady. She sent me
you. What I'm calling for, we're in the neighborhood of Cache Gates. This is where that creature
guy, which everybody knows he's crazy out here and his wife apparently, which we know she didn't shoot herself. But
what's happening and he's had a bunch of Filipino girls or ori except I don't
know if six to what's going on in there but the neighbor also saw him beating
one of those girls up not too long ago he can be you know tell them of the
police about it. The male lady just went down and she said there's always different Oriental
girls young Oriental girls in that house and then they're now I guess he's I don't
know what he's going to know they're doing an investigation in their death
because she had just filed for divorce and all and you know we all know her from
running and everything and she ended up dead but I think y'all might somebody
might want to go by that house
and see what's going on
because it don't look good for this neighborhood.
And her mom's out here,
there's older people out here in this neighborhood,
something's going on.
Yes, ma'am, that's the address.
And the male lady said she went by there
and there's young Filipino girls,
you know all that sex trafficking and all going on.
I heard he was involved in that,
but I'm not saying it because there's a lot he was into.
Okay.
And the little girls and all, and that's why it's going to all come out in the long run.
But they're over there now, the girls are. There's nobody else. That's not their house. It belongs to her.
You know, and she had filed for divorce.
Y'all might want to check it because there's something going on.
They got like sheets all over the windows and don't look right in this neighborhood.
They have what all over the windows? don't look right in this neighborhood. They have what all over the windows?
Oh sheets.
It looked like they got sheets put over it now since all this.
And we did see him fly in there then fly out of there because he almost hit us in his blue
truck and he took off that was on Saturday morning and apparently sneaked in early but
those or he was in there and like I said that I think that was her house.
But you heard about it everything going on but the wasn't it Rock Church of Solid Rock Church okay
it's the Miller JP Miller and you like to say she filed for divorce two days later
she's dead so there's something going on in there it's been going on a while like
I said the neighbor saw one of them the boy because he's real crazy beating the
girl on the back but I'm Hawaii didn call the police, but he didn't know either. A lot of people don't
like getting involved. I don't believe he's involved in sex trafficking, which I think he is,
but y'all can find out because they got no business in their house. Okay. And what is your name?
I'm sure we have talked about this report before, but we need to talk about it again.
First of all, this neighbor is making some
serious allegations that the police should have taken seriously. Not only is he telling the police
that he believes that there is sketchy activity going on at JP's house that could be related to
human trafficking, but JP's neighbor also told police he assaulted a girl and claimed that he
saw JP on the morning of Micah's death
when he told police he was in Charleston.
This is May 1st, before Micah's body was cremated, before the Robeson County Sheriff's Office
ruled Micah's death a suicide, and when police should have been paying very close attention
to JP.
You would think that this would have set off a
bunch of alarm bells. You would think that the police would have been like,
what do you mean there's a report about potential sex trafficking at the home of
the preacher that the entire internet is talking about right now? Maybe we should
investigate this more or maybe pass it on to the jurisdiction investigating
Micah's death? The report and 911 call mentioned at least two other potential witnesses to this scenario.
So you would think that they would maybe at least ask them if this is true.
But of course they didn't, or at least it doesn't look like it, according to reports.
Instead, the report says the officers, quote, made contact with the
homeowner, who advised everything was 10-4. Officers were able to look inside the residence,
and nothing appeared suspicious. Owner believes it could have been her husband calling to make
complaints on her due to them going through a divorce. This is such a frustrating report as it references a female homeowner.
The actual female homeowner was Micah and she was dead.
So who are they talking about here?
We think it was likely JP's sister Lacy.
Remember in February when Micah called 911 from Bucky's, she said that Lacy had been
staying with him and she also said she
didn't trust Lacey further than she could throw her.
We questioned the amount of investigating that the police did in the house if they didn't
even realize that the woman that they were talking to wasn't one of the homeowners and
that the homeowner was actually dead, like the neighbor said.
And the bigger question, did Horry County relay any of this
information to the Robeson County Sheriff's Office? Because we know Robeson County found
information during their investigation into Micah's death that made them alert the FBI,
and we also know that human trafficking is right in the FBI's wheelhouse. As we continue to ask ourselves what the FBI was looking for when they sent over two dozen
agents and a US attorney to search JP Miller's house, we keep thinking about this report.
It absolutely could just be a neighbor who doesn't like JP, but it is unfortunate to
see how little effort they put into investigating this accusation,
which should have been a big deal to them considering the context they were given.
Just a couple days after the sex trafficking allegations, there is another report related
to Micah filed on May 3rd.
I didn't get this report back until November when I sent in a FOIA request to Horry County
that listed Micah's siblings and their addresses.
I'm not sure why we didn't get this report when we first asked for reports listing JP
Miller, since he appears to be the alleged suspect in this CAD report.
It appears that this call is from one of Micah's siblings to 911 around 953 that night to report an alleged burglary.
The alleged burglary, however, wasn't at the siblings' home. Instead, it looks like
it was at Micah's apartment. It also lists the subject as a 43-year-old white male. J.
P. would have been 44 at the time of this call. The report says, quote, Sister recently passed away, ex-boyfriend trying to get inside,
sees him on camera, her old roommate is inside, end quote.
There are also other notes including, quote,
He is on camera at the apartment, he is wearing a dark t-shirt and white ball cap, end quote.
And, last known vehicle is a silver pickup truck.
According to the CAD report, the roommate was home at the time of the call and was in her room
and afraid. There's this note in the dispatch report too. Caller stated that Redacted is being
accused of murdering her sister. The report was ultimately closed with the note,
"...unsure whether it was the suspect or not. No one on scene on arrival."
We don't know if police ever did any follow-up work to confirm whether or not it was JP for
certain because of how much was redacted. If one of Micah's siblings had access to
the doorbell camera, that should have
been very easy to confirm. I was hoping the 911 call would shed some light on this report,
but get this. I found out about it too late to request the 911 call. Those calls are only
maintained for 180 days in Horry County. The state law only requires them to be held for 90 days, so while 180 days is better,
I'm not sure we should celebrate this too hard in a world where we have basically unlimited
digital storage. But that's a complaint for another day. And why doesn't news of FBI
involvement mean every government record involving a suspect is automatically preserved?
involving a suspect is automatically preserved. Again, considering the circumstances surrounding Micah's death, you would think that this
report would be thoroughly followed up on.
But we don't see any evidence of that.
If it was JP in Micah's apartment, why would he be there?
Was he looking for something? If he had nothing to do with Micah's
death as he has proclaimed many times, then why would he risk doing something that would make him
look so suspicious? Then again, after taking a closer look at all of these police interactions
with JP, we can see why he wasn't worried. JP didn't lay low at all throughout the month of May,
which again was just weeks after Micah's death. And that brings us to the May 14th
Little Tokyo incident. Or as the police report said, Lil Tokyo. We have briefly talked about
this Lil Tokyo incident in May, but we should talk about it again after a short commercial break,
and we will be right back.

Little Tokyo is the Myrtle Beach sushi restaurant where JP was seen with his alleged paramour
Susie Skinner on May 1st, three days after Micah's death.
Apparently, JP likes this place. We've previously talked about the incident from Little Tokyo
Restaurant on May 14th. I want to have David read this report because I think it's important
to note how serious this situation was. We are not sure who the victim noted in the report was, but we believe the suspect
was JP because of a follow-up call at JP's house the same day.
On 5-14-2024, I, PFC Waite, responded to 780 Victor 02 Coastal Grand Circle, which is Lil Tokyo, for an assault call for service.
Upon arrival, the witness 2 approached me to discuss the situation.
The witness 2 stated that the victim was still on scene, but the offender left in an unknown
direction.
The witness 1 stated that she was behind the bar for the entire incident.
The witness one stated that she did hear the offender attempting to quote have
words with the victim. The witness one stated that the victim ignored the
offender the entire incident. The victim stated that he was sitting at the bar
with the involved other when the offender approached them.
The involved other was sitting to the left of the victim, which is where the offender approached.
The offender then moved to the rear of the victim and the involved other. The victim then turns
around to see what the offender is doing. The victim braced his left arm upward due to concern for how close the offender was coming to him.
The offender then uses his left hand to strike the victim in the left side of his face.
The victim extends his left arm up to protect from the offender.
The victim turns away from the offender, which is when the offender pushes on the victim's back with both hands.
The victim stands up, but never approaches the offender.
The offender continued walking towards the door to leave.
The victim had no visible marks and did not want medical attention.
The victim did not wish to press charges at this time.
medical attention, the victim did not wish to press charges at this time. That incident sounds a lot more serious than the assault incident JP was actually arrested
for in November, right?
In the Little Tokyo incident, the victim did not want to press charges, which isn't required
for assault charges.
But this appears to be another incident
where JP just got away with something most people wouldn't during a time he should have
felt the pressure of sunlight from media around the world.
The good news is that our request for the 911 call was denied, citing an open investigation.
So it is possible that Myrtle Beach Police could still press
charges related to this incident. But we have our doubts. As for the follow-up call to JP's
house, a CAD report from Horry County PD revealed that Myrtle Beach Police called them to check
in with JP. Quote, MBPD requests welfare check on an individual that was involved in an assault in MB, end quote,
and lists the person as John Redacted Miller. The report goes on to note,
Person 1 was the suspect in the assault on video. Victim in assault did not wish to even file report or prosecute. MBPD doing report anyway.
Chief Prock was requesting welfare check
due to recent events involving Person 1.
Conferred with 230, who agreed?
No reason for HCPD to agitate a potential suspect
when no investigation or prosecution will be occurring.
Lieutenant Fullwood was advised of situation.
A potential suspect?
Recent events involving Person 1?
As a note, this was also around the same time we confirmed that Robeson County had asked
the FBI to investigate.
Was the Myrtle Beach Police Department already aware of the investigation when the
Little Tokyo incident happened? And if Myrtle Beach Police knew, did Horry County also know
since JP's house is in their jurisdiction? A few weeks after the Little Tokyo incident,
on June 3rd, one of Micah's siblings called 911 to report JP for allegedly sexually assaulting Micah's dog, which we talked about
in episode 68.
That case was closed on the same night with the note in the CAD report stating, quote,
nothing suspicious observed while driving by.
Area is quiet.
Front and garage doors are closed.
End quote.
Again.
You would think Horry County PD would have done just a little more follow-up than
driving past JP's house before giving the all-clear on such a serious allegation, but no.
On June 23rd, Micah's best friend Charlotte Corn filed a police report alleging that she had
received a text message from an unknown number that purported to have sensitive information that
was known only to her and a few others. The report accused a suspect, JP Miller we presume,
based on what we know of, of harassing her and telling her that he paid someone to gather info
on her. Again, this should be a serious accusation and we can't find any evidence of any follow-up
whatsoever. This is simply more evidence of any follow-up whatsoever. This
is simply more evidence of Myrtle Beach police telling women through their actions, or lack
thereof, that they don't care about women and they're not concerned about J.P. Miller."
A week later, on June 30th, church member Robert Lachell allegedly sprayed protesters
with a water hose, which generated a flurry of reports to police over
the spraying incident itself and over the next week regarding social media threats allegedly
made against protesters. Lachelle was charged with five counts of third degree assault and battery.
He turned himself in to the Myrtle Beach Police on July 8th and was released on a personal
recognizance bond the same day. Lachelle has requested a jury trial.
His attorney is Russell B. Long, the same attorney who represents JP in his own third-degree
assault charge.
In July, Myrtle Beach police fielded a complaint about the temporary barricades that blocked
the sidewalk in front of Solid Rock Church, as well as a complaint about a group of people
blocking an intersection near the church.
On July 21, YouTuber Robbie Harvey called the cops in Horry County at 11.13 p.m. after
he got a phone call that had a blocked number with a woman on the other line.
A note in the CAD says, quote,
Complainant received a call from a Katy subject alleging she was being held against
will by JP Miller.
Officers went to location.
Homeowner gave us permission to search house.
No other persons were located or signs that any other person was living at location.
End quote.
The CAD report also notes that Robbie said he could hear JP and the background of the
call.
According to the CAD report, officers arrived at JP's home at 11.46 p.m. and cleared the
scene at 12.01 a.m.
On August 18, a Justice for Micah protester reported that a church parishioner had lifted
his shirt to show the gathered protesters that he was carrying a weapon. According to a CAD report from the Myrtle
Beach Police Department, the protestors, quote, claimed that they felt threatened by the security
because he had put his t-shirt over his gun on his hip, end quote. And, quote, complainants
say this is ongoing issue, end quote. The report goes on to say that no crime was committed and noted that the protester said
the man did not make any kind of threat or comment.
On September 29, the protester dubbed Jesus J for dressing in long-flowing robes told
police that JP assaulted him.
In reality, JP was walking towards a Myrtle Beach police patrol car to
make a complaint of his own when Jesus J approached him quickly and JP held up an arm to keep
J away. According to the incident report, quote, the probable cause threshold of assault
has not been met, end quote. We've seen the video and we actually agree with that assessment. Again, we're telling y'all about these reports just to understand how much extra work and chaos JP and the church are making for police.
On November 3rd, the first church service after the FBI raid, somebody in the neighborhood reportedly called police to complain about the noise. Then, on the 6th, is when
JP was charged with third-degree assault for tapping a protester on the hat with
his phone. On November 17th and 21st, with the church building apparently
abandoned for solid rock to scurry over and regroup at the rat hole, police noted
a broken window on a back door and then the front door propped open.
There was nobody there when police cleared the property and closed the door.
This reminded me of something else that happened in the Miller world.
In 1999, JP's father, Wayne Miller, was president of Cathedral Bible College and
pastor of Cathedral Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach. Cathedral was how he rebranded after he
fled Florence in the aftermath of sexual misconduct allegations in thertle Beach. Cathedral was how he rebranded after he fled Florence in the
aftermath of sexual misconduct allegations in the early 90s. Wayne's building in Florence,
known as Tabernacle Baptist Church and Gloryland Bible College, was completely vacant and about to
be sold when it burned down on March 30, 1999, just five days before Easter Sunday that year.
On March 31st, 1999, when News of the Fire was printed in the Florence Morning News,
the initial report quoted Wayne Miller explaining how a Florence County Sheriff's Deputy had
seen graffiti in the building the month prior. The real estate agent for the sale said that
she had walked through the building the week before and, quote, noticed several openings where people could have snuck in, end quote, according to the article.
Several openings where people could sneak in just before a massive fire? Hmm.
There was no insurance on the building, according to Wayne Miller in that report.
He told the reporter covering the fire that he couldn't get insurance on an abandoned
building.
Interesting, right?
On April 3, 1999, another article in the Florence Morning News quoted the Florence fire chief
saying that the fire was suspicious.
He was quoted as saying, We've eliminated all accidental ignition as the cause.
To our knowledge, nobody was ever named as a suspect in the Gloryland fire, and the case
of alleged arson was never solved.
Anyway, fast forward back to present day and our look into J.P. Miller's contact with
police. As of right now, our most recent report of somebody calling the police regarding JP or
his church is from December 8th, when the same protester from the hat-tapping incident
called police to allege that JP swerved his new truck towards her after church at the
rat hole.
Again, all of these incidents individually are not a big deal, but put into context,
some things become a lot more clear for us.
1.
Both Horry County and Myrtle Beach Police consistently give JP undeserving grace.
2.
JP Miller faced serious accusations in the months after Micah's death that the police
apparently never bothered to investigate. 3. You can tell from these reports that the tension
between J.P. and the protesters is only getting worse and more dangerous, and we hope that
everyone who is getting close to J.P JP and his church members are careful.
Now, let's go through all of the police contact initiated by JP or others apparently affiliated
with him or Solid Rock since Micah's death. Before I highlight specific dates, let's first
establish that 34 weeks have passed since Micah died. That's 34 Sundays.
According to Myrtle Beach police records, police were at the church during service for
23 of those weeks. That's a lot of money and resources sucked up by one church. Some of
the Sundays were directed patrols with notes about the approximate number of protesters and observing
to make sure things stayed orderly. Other Sundays, there was more chaos for police to
deal with, such as the time that a parishioner allegedly sprayed protesters with a hose,
or somebody from within the church made a noise complaint about the protesters. Each
of the noise complaints we have a record for results in an officer going inside the church and noting that he could hear faint chanting that did not disrupt
services. So nearly each weekend for the last seven months, Myrtle Beach police have had
to essentially babysit Solid Rock Church while also dealing with other Solid Rock and J.P.
Miller related issues. And don't forget, J.P JP's home is in Horry County jurisdiction, so the Horry County police have
also been quite busy with this situation.
I also want you to listen to the times that JP overstates or exaggerates the problem and
the cops note that the issue was not as serious or as extreme as first reported.
On April 30th, JP called Myrtle Beach police because he was trying to get Micah's things
from the apartment she shared with an elderly roommate.
According to the report, JP told the officer that the apartment manager didn't like him,
and that's why she wouldn't let him in.
Never mind the part where he wasn't on the lease, but this is JP's world we're dealing
with here, right? From the report, it also appears that JP was
permanently trespassed off the property. Part of that report says, quote,
In-Def Warning for Redacted for Entire Complex. Mail moved along with no issues, and responding
officer provided staff with a vent number. End quote.
But don't forget that earlier in the episode, we talked about the May 3rd call, apparently
from one of Micah's siblings, alleging that they could see JP on the doorbell camera at
an apartment he was reportedly trespassed from just three days prior.
The next day, on May 1st, at 2.56pm, Church Secretary and close JP Miller associate,
Trisha Ross, called Myrtle Beach Police to report harassing messages and emails in the
aftermath of Micah's death. This report says, quote,
Responding officer was shown multiple posts and messages being sent to the church.
No direct threats of violence seen. The posts are just very vague about
canceling and ending the church for its quote lies. Certain Facebook groups and TikToks
have been dispersing the stories about the church in hopes to quote end them. No direct
person is being harassed. Pastor John Paul was not on scene to meet with officers." The report ends with,
At this time, there is no harassment. A little over an hour later, at 4.09 p.m., somebody from
Solid Rock contacted Myrtle Beach Police again to discuss having officers present at Micah's funeral on May 6th because, quote,
possible issues or protesters may attend, end quote.
The internet was buzzing with allegations and accusations around Micah's death, so
it does seem logical that the church might request officers to be present for a funeral.
Apparently, the caller was given options including paying for the
police to work overtime, private security options, and quote, KC request via department
email, end quote. KC is more than likely one of those keep checks we saw before. I called
Myrtle Beach police to ask them to clarify what KC is and elaborate on how keep checks are decided on, but I haven't heard back.
On May 7th, JP called the Horry County police about a woman waving a gun at him. That's the
one where we later learned that it was Jesus J, who does have long hair but did not have a gun.
We talked about this incident in detail on episode 58. But for a reminder, take a listen to JP here. She stays behind me. I tried to drive the Target, she stayed behind me. She was in front of my house with either a gun or a camera or something.
And she's still following me in my neighborhood now.
And I've received death threats over the past few days, so I'm kind of worried about this."
This incident sent police on a wild goose chase that ended with police searching Jesus J's
car, finding nothing, and telling him he was free to go.
Police did what they should do when they are called about someone threatening a citizen.
But imagine where Micah would be today if the police ever treated Micah's calls with
the same level of respect as they did with JP's. JP also called Horry County on May 24th to report a TikTok creator known as Guru.
According to the report, the problem is, quote,
states that there is a female that is putting pictures of him and his children on social media,
and when he went to ask her to stop, she started waving a gun." End quote. Guru, whose name is Jan Lancaster, is a man.
Does JP think calling a man a woman is derisive?
That also makes me think of him purposefully mispronouncing Regina Ward's name
as Regina in his NewsNation interview.
Does JP just hate women?
So as for this report, the police apparently told JP that social media is protected speech.
Later, on June 3rd, Lancaster called back to the police to say that he wasn't even in town
when JP says Lancaster waved a gun at him.
Also, JP allegedly posted a nude photo of Micah on the internet months before this without her
consent.
Police knew this and they did nothing.
Think about the audacity JP has to think that police would take action for his non-nude
photos being on the internet without his consent when he knows that they did nothing about
something he allegedly did that was much more serious.
Again, the resources that are being wasted here.
On the afternoon of June 2nd, Church Secretary and JP associate Tricia Ross reported that
a bomb threat had been called to the church.
The building was cleared by an explosive sniffing canine who found nothing.
Hear that, Horry County? That is the sound
of your tax dollars being drained by JP's no-income tax-paying churchy business. You
all have the right to tell your county council and your city council that this bothers you,
by the way.
Speaking of the audacity of JP, on June 18th, JP Miller called the police on YouTuber Robbie
Harvey.
The Horry County Police Department CAD report says in part, quote, Coller states that there
are people following him and taking pictures of him and posting about him on social media
slash has already issued a cease, end quote.
And then the note cuts off.
In the police report, the officer noted that the photos JP was reporting appeared to be
taken in public areas.
The officer apparently called Robbie Harvey and wrote in his report that Robbie is an
independent journalist reporting on a topic involving the victim, meaning JP.
The officer closed the report noting, quote,
At this time, no actions are believed to be criminal and no subjects are identified as subject
taking photos of victim one, end quote. Apparently, JP doesn't understand that taking someone's photo
in public isn't illegal. The next day, on June 19th, JP reported finding a tracker mounted to the frame of his truck.
But pay attention to what the officer wrote in the report.
Quote,
Victim states that he hasn't seen anyone following him the past few days and hasn't
seen anyone in his driveway.
End quote.
Except for literally 22 hours beforehand, he'd called the cops to report he was being
followed around town. Also, the June 19th report notes that JP had already touched the
tracker without gloves, but that the police would see if it could still be processed for
evidence.
Something struck me as I was reading this report in comparison to the three previous times Micah and her roommate called police to report trackers on their vehicles.
In this report, Horry County Police actually took the tracker back to their office and obtained the serial number and model for the tracker.
Something Myrtle Beach never did once when Micah was terrified for her life.
In fact, the last time Micah called Myrtle Beach police, she was told since she believed that her
estranged husband put the device on her car that it was actually marital property and the matter
was a civil issue. That decision by Myrtle Beach police will always haunt me and I hope it haunts them."
Micah was dead less than two weeks after they told her that.
It was the last time that she called the police before the day of her death.
To me, that incident closed the door for Micah's hope that law enforcement would ever help her.
And I hope that it haunts law enforcement as much as it haunts us.
On this June 19th incident, it is interesting how again there is no follow-up whatsoever.
Shouldn't a serial number be enough for a cop to get to the bottom of this?
Two days after that, on June 21st, JP reported finding a camera in the bushes at his house.
Apparently, JP found the camera in the morning and took it inside before officers arrived.
Then, he called the police at 4.55pm to report it.
The report says in part, quote, victim states that he has a list of people who have been
harassing him, end quote.
Police at least took a photo of the camera for evidence, but the case was administratively
closed because there was no further information.
On June 28th, JP went to the Myrtle Beach Police Department to report a libelous website.
That website made allegations that JP was a quote,
"...murderer, sex trafficker, abuser, and money launderer." All of those are accusations that JP Miller has vehemently denied, and he has not been
charged with any of those offenses.
The website he complained about has since been taken offline, and it is unclear if anybody
was ever cited or sued for its content.
Interesting they didn't tell JP, sounds like a civil issue, but anyways.
The next day, June 29th, JP called Horry County Police to his house because he had found another
camera hidden in a bush on his property. This time, he provided police with a name and address
and informed the police that his lawyer had sent her a cease and desist order. He also
told police that the suspect was carrying a gun when he saw her on his doorbell camera.
The camera was taken into evidence.
Take a listen.
I have a picture of her and I have her address and everything.
And she even made a video on Facebook of how she, okay sorry, yes.
Okay, so you know who the person is that did this?
I mean, I don't know him personally, but I sent it to a friend of mine.
Yes, yes.
Okay. Are they in the area?
Yes, they live in Myrtle Beach.
Okay. Were there any weapons involved?
I swear there was a gun on her side, open carry, but I thought about that before I called you.
Okay.
I saw her through my ring camera doing it and so I started talking and saying to leave
or you know I started saying who are you or whatever and then she left.
Okay, a couple things here. One, notice how he said, quote, sent to a friend of mine,
like this man who calls the police
more than the rest of us call our besties,
still has connections within the police department.
Number two, if JP did have a video from his ring camera
of this woman trespassing multiple times,
why didn't the police follow up with that?
And notice how calm JP is here.
Like he isn't worried for his safety and he isn't worried at all about convincing the
police that this harassment is a big deal.
I'm wondering if JP made a lot of these police reports because maybe he knew how little the
police actually do to investigate claims and at the same time he
also knew it was important to document alleged harassment with the police if you want to
sue someone for harassment.
Remember JP's ex-wife Allison saying that JP was telling his children he was going to
get rich off of lawsuits after Micah's death?
Also this was a time when JP was active on TikTok.
You would think that he would post videos of people harassing him at his home, planting
cameras on his property, etc. etc. as a part of his campaign to tell a side, right?
What I'm saying here is that JP's repeated calls to police for cameras being planted
and him being allegedly stalked and harassed aren't adding up.
In my opinion, he is coming off as a man who just wants to document these incidents
and doesn't actually want them to be investigated.

Next up is a Myrtle Beach Police Department CAD report from July 6th when somebody at Solid Rock reported an alleged threat to quote, put a bullet in the pastor's head, end quote,
on Facebook.
The next morning, on July 7th, around 8.26am, Horry County police were called for a wellness
check to JP's house.
It turns out that JP was just in the bathroom and didn't answer the phone when the female
complainant called him, according to the CAD report. On July 19th, the day before the News
Nation interview aired, Trisha Ross, JP's right-hand woman, called 911 around 3 315 to report that an elderly man and a white
Nissan Rogue had been in the parking lot at Solid Rock for three hours and
wouldn't leave. On Sunday, July 28th, Myrtle Beach police were doing their
regular patrol at Solid Rock when someone summoned the officer inside
because of protester noise. The person's name is redacted, but the officer noted, quote, he stated his attorney
had stated the city attorney had stated that we would push the protesters across the street.
I informed him we had not been given that order and there was no current reason for
us to do that. End quote. Hmm. who could that be? On October 2nd, JP called Myrtle Beach police to say that the quote
old ladies at the church were having some kind of meeting and that they were afraid to leave,
quote, with no men there. Take a listen to the whole call.
Myrtle Beach 911, what's the address of the emergency?
803 Howard Avenue and I was asked to be transferred as quick as I can, but I told them I would call you guys. I'm trying to get there as quick as I can, but I told them I would call you guys.
I'm trying to get there as quick as I can, but I told them I would call you guys.
I'm trying to get there as quick as I can, but I told them I would call you guys.
I'm trying to get there as quick as I can, but I told them I would call you guys.
I'm trying to get there as quick as I can, but I told them I would call you guys.
I'm trying to get there as quick as I can, but I told them I would call you guys. I'm trying to get there as quick as I can, but I told them I would call you guys. An officer checked it out and noted that there were three protesters on the sidewalk and
that everything was peaceful.
JP claimed that the protesters were quote unquote causing trouble, but he didn't mention
any specific crimes.
Yet that was enough for Myrtle Beach Police to respond.
I point this out because I would love to know if Myrtle Beach Police do the same thing for
domestic violence victims who call them for protection because they are scared of their abuser.
Do police come running to protect them every single time?
I'm gonna guess no, based off of the numerous times Micah called both Myrtle Beach and Horry
County police for help and was met with hostility and resistance. I keep thinking about that now, that Micah's family gave up their right to sue on Micah's
behalf.
I would never judge a grieving family member's decisions, but I can't help but think there
could have been a monumental lawsuit against these police departments for greatly contributing
to Micah's feeling of hopelessness in the end.
After seeing the stark difference between how they treated JP Miller in the last seven months
compared to how they treated Micah in the two years leading up to her death,
I can only hope that one person between those two departments can see what we see
and initiate much needed change
that could literally save the lives
of countless abuse victims.
And again, we hope that the taxpayers
think about these reports.
We hope the people making decisions in Horry County
and Myrtle Beach think about this question,
how much taxpayer money has been spent on JP Miller and his church at this point?
If the police were called to a bar or a place of business this often, wouldn't they shut
the place down as a public nuisance?
At what point is a police department allowed to say you are welcome to pay for private security to a church
like this that has been nothing but a consistent headache to the community.
After that October 2nd incident with the old ladies, things appeared to slow down a bit.
There were some police reports generated on Sunday, October 13th when a protester flagged down an officer
to report someone for allegedly violating a no-contact order, and there's a call from
the Tech College president complaining about protesters lingering in their parking lot
for too long.
And then, of course, the FBI rolled into town on November 1st with their evidence collection
truck and spent about five hours going through JP's
house with a fine-toothed comb. Get the details on that one in True Sunlight episode 73. We don't
know when we might see movement on any potential charges or an arrest, but we are watching closely.
Before we go, we have to talk about JP's other run-ins with the law. His traffic tickets. JP has received five traffic tickets since Micah died, but he had two more in 2024 prior to her death,
one of which is missing from the public index.
His most recent traffic ticket was Friday, December 6th, when he was ticketed by Myrtle Beach police for speeding.
According to Myrtle Beach records, the traffic stop happened at Damon's Bar and Grill. The exact charge was speeding more than 15 miles per hour over the limit.
For this one, he's represented by logger legislator Val Guest, and he has requested a jury trial.
Prior to that, he was ticketed on Saturday, October 12th by Myrtle Beach Police just down
the street from Solid Rock. This charge was
for speeding less than 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. Once again, he's represented by Val
Guest and has requested a jury trial. On Saturday, July 27th, JP was ticketed in the small town of
Ainer for speeding more than 25 miles an hour over the limit. At the time, I called and spoke to the Aynor police chief who told me that JP was pulled
over on Highway 501 about 645 that evening.
The police chief was fairly certain JP was headed northbound, away from Myrtle Beach,
when he got the ticket.
According to my notes from July and August, JP was tried in absentia,
meaning he wasn't there, was found guilty, and was fined $440 in August. Then, the ticket
disappeared from the public index in late August. When I called back to the Aynor police
chief, he told me he couldn't talk about it, and instead referred me to JP's attorney.
I asked the chief for the attorney's name, and well, I'll give you one guest.
The citation mysteriously reappeared on September 5th with a new case number.
It had the July 27th date and the correct police department,
but the charge was a much lesser offense.
Failure to possess a registration card.
And according to the public index, the fine was $232.50.
Prior to the Ainer ticket, there was a Monday, April 15th, 2024 ticket, the last one he had
before Micah's death.
I don't know when this ticket went missing from the public index, but I have the case
number and I have the ticket logged in my timeline.
According to my notes, JP was ticketed then
for disregarding a stop sign. April 15th is a notable day in Micah's timeline. It was
the day she reported a tracker on her black Honda to the Myrtle Beach police. It's also
the same date on the documents for her new divorce filing against JP. It's also the same
day that JP allegedly sent Micah an email apologizing
for damaging her car and promising to buy her a new SUV if she'll just come home.
And finally, the first ticket of 2024 was a citation for careless operation on Thursday,
February 22nd. That ticket was issued by the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 11.49pm.
According to records, the ticket was issued at the intersection of US 17 and 21st Avenue
North, which is a major intersection near Broadway at the Beach, home of Crocodile Rock's
piano bar.
This date is also notable in Micah's timeline.
Earlier that day, around 4 in the afternoon, the Horry County Fire Department responded to JP's address because of a quote,
big fire in the yard beside his house. According to records from the fire department,
firefighters extinguished the fire with a garden hose and quote,
occupant of the house came out and reports it was a small fire in his pit and he was
watching it through the window from inside." The next day, JP sued Micah for divorce, and two months later, she
was dead.
The other day, I was watching an early episode of The Sopranos. In the scene, Tony was speaking
to his attorney as the FBI investigations into Tony's crime
ring were clearly heating up around him.
Tony's attorney was clear with his advice to Tony, lay low and do not give the FBI
an inch.
He specifically said do not speed, do not get pulled over, and do not do anything to
attract the attention of
the police.
I know that it's just TV, but that sounds like standard advice for someone under an
FBI investigation, right?
It got me thinking, what is actually going on with JP's attorneys right now?
Have they given him this very simple and solid advice to lay low?
Or is JP just ignoring them all?
While we don't know what JP Miller's attorneys are telling him to do,
we know that JP has done the opposite of laying low and staying away from law enforcement.
And we know that he cannot hide from the sunlight.
