Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and welcome to muscle for life. I am Mike Matthews. Thank you for joining me today. If I sound a little bit congested, it's because I am I have a little bit of a head cold that I contracted from my daughter who contracted it from a friend of my son's, whose dumb shit parents sent over to my house while sick without saying anything. Fuck you guys very much. And yeah, so here we are. And what are we talking about today? Well, some funny fitness disappointments for you. For example, who else can vividly remember the disappointment of the moment you realized just how many calories are in a tablespoon of peanut butter and how small a proper tablespoon really is. And what about the moment that you realized that losing only one
Starting point is 00:00:57 pound per week? Yeah, that's actually a win. And the moment you realized just how much exercise it takes to burn 100 calories and just how few calories strength training burns and that you still have to watch your macros and you have to watch your calories when you are bulking or you just get fat and just how small a serving size of cereal is and pasta and ice cream and that the real reason so many fitness influencers are jacked is just vitamin S. And what about the moment when you realized just how lean you have to actually be to have a six pack and that nuts are basically pure fat, very little protein. And speaking of protein, just how little protein is in most plant foods. And just how many calories are in an avocado. I was shocked when I first saw it.
Starting point is 00:01:55 And what about the time when you realized that one serving of your favorite snack is not the whole bag? And what about just how hard it is to bench a few plates and that you can't out exercise a bad diet? That one is a chilling moment for so many of us, right? And what about when you realized just how small of a calorie surplus is required to maximize muscle growth. And lastly, a horrifying moment for so many people, the moment when they realize that they are just going to have to drink less wine to finally lose their gut. Well, you know what they say about such setbacks. Do not fear failure because if you're growing, you're likely failing.
Starting point is 00:02:44 And if you're not failing, you if you're growing, you're likely failing. And if you're not failing, you are likely not growing.
