Starting point is 00:04:24 is enough shameless plugging for now at least. Let's get to the show. Okay. So let's start at the top and answer what clenbuterol is and how it works in the body. So clenbuterol is a powerful stimulant and it does increase your metabolic rate and fat burning. It's sold under different names as well, including dilateral, spiropent, and ventipulmin. And I may be botching some of those pronunciations, but you can't find proper pronunciations online. So you kind of just read them however you read them, right? But most people just refer to it as clen or bute. Now, this drug was originally developed in the 1970s as a veterinary drug to treat respiratory disorders in horses and other animals. And it acts as a bronchodilator, which means that it relaxes
Starting point is 00:05:13 the muscles around the airways to make breathing easier. So in that regard, it works. And that's why, at least for a short time, Klen was also marketed as a nasal decongestion and asthma medication for us humans. And it's actually still used as respiratory medication in some countries, but most have switched to safer, more effective alternatives. question of course is how the hell did clen go from something to help horses uh breathe better and run better to one of the most popular cutting drugs in all of bodybuilding and the answer is eventually people in the bodybuilding world discovered that clenbuterol binds to the same receptors that respond to epinephrine which is, and that clenbuterol actually produces even greater effects than adrenaline, including fat burning effects. And even better for bodybuilders, it was discovered that clenbuterol also binds to muscle cells and it stimulates muscle protein
Starting point is 00:06:17 synthesis. And that's why it helps preserve muscle while cutting. And all this is why most people take clenbuterol to improve their athletic performance and to lose fat faster while also preserving muscle. Starting point is 00:07:13 Now, there is an ongoing debate as to whether it actually does boost physical performance, at least in us humans, but as of now, most studies that have been conducted on it indicate that it probably doesn't. However, there is no doubt that it speeds up fat loss. Both animal and human research has confirmed that clenbuterol does raise our metabolic rate and it does stimulate fat burning as well. And although it isn't a steroid, studies have also shown that it does stimulate muscle protein synthesis, which as I mentioned earlier, does indeed help you retain lean mass while in a caloric deficit. And now you understand why clenbuterol is all the rage among bodybuilding folk.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Some of these people even claim that clen's anabolic effects are powerful enough to enhance muscle building. So they would recommend using it even when you're not cutting. But I would say that this probably isn't likely given what we know about it scientifically as well as anecdotally. And as far as fat burning goes, just how powerful of a fat burner clenbuterol is, is actually a matter of dispute. So many experienced, many seasoned users claim that it dramatically raises your BMR, your basal metabolic
Starting point is 00:08:25 rate. A common number that's thrown around is 10%, but I don't know of any research that can either corroborate or refute that number. However, it does actually seem reasonable based on at least the anecdotal evidence that we have, which stretches back for decades. And that actually brings me to one of the big criticisms of this drug, given its health have, which stretches back for decades. And that actually brings me to one of the big criticisms of this drug, given its health risks, which we'll talk more about soon, a 10-ish percent increase in BMR just isn't all that great. So for example, let's say you're a muscular guy and your BMR is fairly high. So me, for example, I'm 195 pounds. I'm around 9% body fat. And my BMR is about 2,200, maybe 2,300 calories per day. So if I were cutting and I added clen to it,
Starting point is 00:09:13 that means that I could expect to burn an additional, let's say 200 to 250 calories per day, which would help me lose fat faster, of course, but would be no more than maybe a half a pound of additional fat loss per week. And you also aren't supposed to take cleanse for more than four to six weeks at a time because your body builds a tolerance to it. So it gets less effective over time. So you're supposed to take it for four to six weeks, cycle off to reset sensitivity, and then go back on if you're still cutting. So when you look at it that way, a cycle of cleanse will help you burn maybe an extra three pounds of fat or so. And that's of course, only if you have your diet and your training 100% on point. So you could do that,
Starting point is 00:09:58 or you could just stay drug-free and even supplement-free and just extend your cut by a few weeks to achieve the same results and not have to worry about any of the potential side effects. And make no mistake, there are side effects and risks. So most of the research that's been done on clenbuterol has been done on animals. And that means that we really actually don't know enough about how seriously it can affect us humans and especially people who use it for long periods of time or use it regularly over long periods of time. What we do know though is it's not looking good and that's why Klen isn't approved for human consumption in most countries.
Starting point is 00:10:40 So we can start with a list of the potential side effects, which include nausea, nervousness, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, facial flushing, headache, heartburn, insomnia, lightheadedness, and the list goes on. Now, everyone's sensitivity to this drug varies, but most people experience at least some of these problems when using it. And here's what else we know about Clen. So we know that Clen is probably bad for your heart, high likelihood that it's bad for your heart. And there are a few reasons for this. So first, because it is a powerful stimulant, it can spike your blood pressure and it can keep it greatly elevated for extended periods of time. And that's bad because it can in turn increase your risk of left ventricular hypertrophy or LVH as it's also known. And that is the thickening of the wall of the heart's left ventricle or pumping chamber. And LVH is a major risk factor for heart
Starting point is 00:11:43 disease and is also associated with an increased risk of arrhythmias and even sudden death. So something you definitely don't want to mess with. And as I mentioned earlier, there really haven't been any long-term studies on clenbuterol use. So we just don't know how much clen it takes to get there, how much clen it takes to significantly thicken the wall of the left ventricle. And really what we're going off of then is just case studies of people that have wound up hospitalized after taking or abusing clen. Another reason why clen is probably bad for your heart is there's evidence that it can just directly kill heart cells, which of course is bad for your heart and increases your risk of heart disease. Now it is worth noting, however, that the documented cases of this involved people
Starting point is 00:12:34 taking very large doses of Clenbuterol, like several times higher than even most bodybuilders would recommend. But it is very possible that lower doses also physically damage your heart, just not as badly as larger doses. The problem again is we just don't know. So another downside to Klen is that it interferes with your sleep. And I've said many times that Klen is a powerful stimulant. And I mean, it is a powerful stimulant. Not only does it spike your metabolic rate, it also stays in your system for far longer than milder drugs like caffeine and ephedrine. And specifically, research shows that Klen can actually remain in your blood for up to 24 to 26 hours, which of course explains
Starting point is 00:13:18 why it's known to disrupt sleep. Some people's bodies do clear out stimulants better than others, which means that some people can take Clen first thing in the morning and sleep just fine at night. But even these people tend to experience sleep troubles at some point during a Clenbuterol cycle. And considering the fact that many of us don't get enough sleep as it is, at least if we're anywhere in that bell curve, then we're probably not sleeping as much as we should be or as much as what would be optimal. It kind of goes without saying that taking drugs that just further exacerbates that problem, drugs like clenbuterol, is probably a bad decision for our overall health and well-being. Another potential problem with clen is that evidence
Starting point is 00:14:00 suggests that it may cause the body to lose large amounts of potassium and taurine. And that helps explain why many people that use Clen often report heart abnormalities and muscle cramping. Because potassium plays a very important role in muscle and heart function, and taurine may help prevent muscle cramping. Now, what about legality? Is clenbuterol legal? And the answer is yes, it is legal to purchase, sell, and own, at least in the United States and most other countries. And the reason many people think otherwise is that manufacturers aren't allowed to include
Starting point is 00:14:39 it in products that are meant for human consumption, like bodybuilding supplements. So that's why you'll never see a supplement on the shelf of GNC that has clenbuterol on the label, at least, and why it's often sold as a research chemical. Now, that said, clenbuterol is banned in almost every organized sport because it may or may not enhance athletic performance. And most developed countries have also banned its use with livestock because it can find its way into the meat, which then of course finds its way into you, me, and everybody else. And that's actually what happened a few years ago to soccer players that were participating in the Junior World Cup, which was held in Mexico. They ate food, they ate meat that contained clenbuterol and then got busted for it. At least that's the official story. Who knows? It might be fake news. Anyways, the bottom line here on clenbuterol is that it will definitely help you lose fat faster. It probably won't help you gain muscle faster,
Starting point is 00:15:41 but it will help you keep the muscle that you have while you are dropping fat. It is legal to buy. It's very easy to get. And that's one of the reasons why it is one of the most popular cutting drugs around. However, it's not nearly as effective as many of the drug pushers claim. At best, you're probably looking at a 10% ish increase in your metabolic rate in your basal metabolic rate, which yes, that's going to help no doubt, but you could also just walk for an hour or so to achieve the same effect. Furthermore, there is a very good chance that clan is much worse for you than the people trying to sell it to you would say. And it's definitely worse for you than milder stimulants. You could take like caffeine and ephedrine. And while we can't say for sure, evidence strongly suggests that clenbuterol increases your risk of heart disease and heart dysfunction. And especially
Starting point is 00:16:37 when the doses get high, which again is pretty common in not only the bodybuilding world, but the, you know, just the body composition world, the everyday gym goer that wants to be shredded, bro. Another problem with Clem that I actually haven't mentioned yet is that it's easy to overdose and it can even be lethal if you take too much or you take it for too long. So all that considered, here's my simple recommendation. Stay away from Clem B. Rawls. It's just not worth it. I think that the risks far outweigh the benefits and it's definitely not necessary to build a muscular, lean and healthy body that you can be proud of.
