Muscle for Life with Mike Matthews - #ThisF*&#ingSucks
Episode Date: June 5, 2020Golly gee willikers, 2020, you’re proving a rather harsh mistress, and nobody seems to know your safe word. Tamagotchi? Nickelback? Antidisestablishmentarianism? *sigh* Okay so I...m going to be indelicate here: This fucking sucks. The Current Situation is yet more evidence of the degradation and injustice of our times, where viciousness and villainy appear victorious at every turn and charity and civility are circling the drain. And I’m going to be honest—I don't know what the solution is. It’s certainly not virtue signaling, though, so I’ll leave that to the hordes of hectoring hypocrites who gladly posture on social media about Important Issues™ but give precisely none of their time or money to the causes they publicly champion. (Spoiler alert: they don’t actually care.) What I do know, however, is that Martin Luther King Jr. was correct when he said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” And so I reject any and all forms of hate, bigotry, and inequity, and strive to understand and uplift my fellows despite all reasons and invitations to do otherwise. Ultimately, we’re all in this cauldron together and subjected to its cruel pressures, and I believe the greatest lesson we can learn is to love. Anyhow, sermons aside, how about a quick hose down of some crass Legian commercialism? Let me load my potato gun with some Nickelodeons slime. All right, there we go. Well, gosh golly gee willikers 2020, you are proving to be a rather harsh mistress and
it seems nobody knows your safe word.
Tamagotchi?
Nickelback?
Anti-disestablishmentarianism?
No dice?
Okay, well I'm going to be indelicate here, because this fucking sucks.
The current situation is yet more evidence of the degradation and injustice of our times,
where viciousness and villainy appear victorious at every turn,
and charity and civility are circling the drain.
And I'll be honest, I don't know what the solution is.
It's certainly not virtue signaling though, so I'll leave that to the hordes of hectoring hypocrites who care so much that they'll gladly posture on social media about important issues,
but give precisely zero of their time or money to the causes
they publicly champion, spoiler alert, they don't actually care.
What I do know, however, is Martin Luther King Jr. was correct when he said,
darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.
And so I reject all forms of hate, bigotry, and inequity, and I strive to understand and
uplift my fellows despite all reasons and invitations to do otherwise. Ultimately,
reasons and invitations to do otherwise. Ultimately, we're all in this cauldron together and subjected to its cruel pressures, and I believe the greatest lesson we can learn is to love.
Anyhow, sermons aside, how about a quick hose down of some crass Legion commercialism. Let me load my potato gun with some Nickelodeon
slime. All right, there we go. Fire in the hole. First up is an update regarding Legion's new sexy
bottles. In my last meandering missive, I talked about the new look, which of course you can't see
if you're a podcast listener, but you could see if you went over to legionathletics.com, over on the blog, where there was a post that
showed the new labels.
And revealing that to everybody was a bit of a schvinkter-shrinker because I wasn't
sure how this new look was going to be received.
We had done some informal focus group sessions and gotten good feedback, but that's different
than emailing hundreds of thousands of people and mentioning on the podcast, which gets tens of thousands of listens per episode. And so I was
curious how it was going to be received. And much to my delight, the feedback was overwhelmingly
positive. Not everyone liked it, of course. Some people preferred the existing design to the new
direction, but even those people were quick to tell me that so long
as the formulations remain top shelf, they couldn't care less really how the packaging looks.
And many people wanted to see how the bottles were going to look because previously I only had
labels to show, but not bottles. And now thanks to the powers of computer graphics, I have
renderings of how the bottles are going to look.
And if you want to check them out, just head over to legionathletics.com, go to the blog.
If you just go to legionathletics.com slash blog or click on blog in the menu, you will find a
post, one of my monthly update posts that this podcast is based on. And in that blog post,
you can see images of several of the new products. I think there's Way Plus in there.
There is Recharge, Pulse, and Phoenix, I believe.
And if you want to share feedback, please do.
Good, bad, love, hate, roller skates, you know, just let me know.
All right, moving on.
Let's talk about getting a healthier gut.
Because did you know that what happens to your food as it goes from hole A to B has a profound effect on your health and well-being?
And did you know that Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician and father of modern medicine, once said that all disease starts in the gut? are actually tiny demon cabbages conjured by an occult sorceress named Lady Andromeda on the
cursed blood moon of 1133. Okay, so I made the last one up. The first two, though, real news.
And this is one of the many reasons it is so important to live a healthy lifestyle that
includes regular exercise, lots of nutritious food, and plenty of restful sleep.
And supplements can help too, which is why Legion is working on two products for improving gut
health. The first is called Balance, and it is a non-bacterial product, so not a probiotic,
non-bacterial that we'll be releasing next month. And it contains clinically effective doses of berberine,
artichoke extract, and digestive enzymes to assist in the digestion of protein and fat in particular.
And the primary benefits of this supplement will be one, less intestinal inflammation, which can aid with GI conditions such as IBD and Crohn's. Two, slower intestinal motility to allow more time to process food
and absorb nutrients. Three, enhanced food digestion. And four, improved insulin sensitivity
and blood glucose control. In other words, balance will help your body better process
and absorb the food you eat, and this can enhance your health and well-being in several ways. Now, the second
gut health product we're working on is going to be called Biome, and it will be a probiotic,
so a bacterial product that is still in the works. Unfortunately, the strains that we want,
the exact ones that we want, are patented and are very hard to buy. I don't really understand the point
of having a high quality patented ingredient that most manufacturers can't even get. But hey,
we'll get there. We'll get it done. So more on this soon. Okay. The next little bit of newsy
news how is shopping in our store and paying later. Buy now, pay later. And this is thanks to Sezzle.
No, not sizzle, not schnozzle, not zazzle, sezzle, S-E-Z-Z-L-E. This is our nifty new service that
allows you to buy our wares now and then pay later in four equal and interest-free installments over a period of six weeks and with
no impact to your credit either. Important point there. And so, yeah, there's no catch really.
That's it. You shop on our store over at legionathletics.com and then you choose Sezzle
at checkout and then your order is shipped to you and you pay over time. So do you even sizzle, bro?
All right, one last little bit of good tidings
is some knuckles to throw
to last month's champion giveaway winner,
Dylan S., who won two bottles of Pulse.
That's what he wanted,
as well as a t-shirt and a blender bottle
and 100 reward points.
And if you want to win cool stuff too,
then join Legion's
rewards program over at legionathletics.com slash rewards. Or if you just go to legionathletics.com,
you'll see rewards on the menu and you join for free. And then you get points whenever you buy
stuff and you can get points in other ways too. Like you get free points on your birthday,
you get points for spreading the word about Legion on social
media. You get points for leaving product reviews, and I'm probably forgetting one or two or maybe
even three other ways you can earn points. But again, it's all over at legionathletics.com
slash rewards. And then if you get enough points, you unlock the champion tier. And then once you
are a champion Legionnaire, you will be automatically entered to win cool stuff
every month. All right, Frandos, I think that's enough chin wagging for now. Stay safe and I'll
see you in the next episode. All right, well, that's it for today's episode. I hope you found
it interesting and helpful. And if you did and you don't mind doing me a favor,
could you please leave a quick review for the podcast on iTunes or wherever you are listening
from? Because those reviews not only convince people that they should check out the show,
they also increase the search visibility and help more people find their way to me
and to the podcast and learn how to build their best body
ever as well. And of course, if you want to be notified when the next episode goes live, then
simply subscribe to the podcast and whatever app you're using to listen, and you will not miss out
on any of the new stuff that I have coming. And last, if you didn't like something about the show,
then definitely shoot me an email
at mikeatmuscleforlife.com and share your thoughts.
Let me know how you think I could do this better.
I read every email myself
and I'm always looking for constructive feedback.
All right, thanks again for listening to this episode
and I hope to hear from you soon.
