guest this week that I'm very, very excited about. She's the CEO and founder of Just Thrive.
It's a company that has been taking the health and wellness world by complete storm. Ladies and gentlemen, I have with
Métina Anderson. Hi. I'm Melissa. I'm so excited to be here. I'm so excited to have you and I just
have so many good questions that I'm actually, you know, so into this whole subject. So I can't wait
to like get into everything with you. How are you? How's everything going? I am so great. I landed in Scottsdale today. It's sunny and beautiful. And it's all great. I have a
conference here. So I'm doing great. How about you? Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Good. I'm good. It's
actually sunny. Yeah. It's beautiful. Are you in New York? Where are you?
A Chicago. I'm basically a Chicago. Okay. Well, in Jersey, it's a beautiful sunny day. It's
like so gorgeous out today. It's like our time. This is when we start
I know we get so excited about those days. Yes. So just thrive has all sorts of products that are out there to help people
But before we get into it, I want to know a little bit about your background how this company got started give me give me all the juice
Sure. Yeah, I've had a very interesting journey. Actually, I started out my career as an
attorney. I was in litigation for many years and working crazy hours and then started
having children and decided I didn't want that crazy schedule of weekends and nights.
So I was fortunate to be able to go to a family pharmaceutical company where I was able
to be an attorney, be a general counsel attorney
for our family, far from a pharmaceutical business. But after being in that industry for a while,
I started to notice the abuses in the industry. I started to notice, you know, the over-prescribing
of medications and starting to notice that there was never a focus on prevention and maintenance
of health. The focus was on treating symptoms
and not really thinking about, you know, it was like a health, it wasn't a healthcare system,
it was a sick care system. And so it really wasn't the way we lived our lives with our kids,
we really were careful about giving pharmaceuticals to our kids. Of course, you know, pharmaceuticals
are wonderful in certain types of situations, you know, we know that there are life-saving medications out there that will help save lives.
And there are times that are acute situations, but we just don't feel like they're a place
for chronic conditions.
You know, when you have a chronic condition, you want to get to the root cause of it.
Why are you having high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or whatever it might be?
Why do you have an allergy?
Why do you have an autoimmune issue?
And so it was really important to us to get to the
root cause of things and to go into business in a space
that really meant something to us in a place
where we wanted to impact the world.
So through a lot of prayer, meditation,
being at the right place at the right time,
we were able to license these very exclusive
probiotic strains.
And from there, just thrive was born.
And it's been the most gratifying career journey I've ever, ever been on.
Wow. Well, that's an amazing story. And I like the concept for a mention before treatment,
right? So I think that's also like an amazing concept. Talk to me a little bit about like
gut and stomach health. I know that you know,
just drive is known for promoting a healthy stomach, right? And it helps tackle issues with digestion,
bloating and everything that stems from the gut. So this might seem like sort of a silly question,
but I think a lot of us don't really think about it too often, right? Right? No, they don't. And until there's a problem. And
that's why that's my big mission is it's good to think about it when you have a problem. But it's
also good to be thinking about it before it becomes a problem. Because I think it's important to your
question was great about, you know, gut, what is the gut even? You know, the gut is really so so
important for our overall health. So we know the gut is made
up of microbes. And so we know that these microbes and bacteria are really dictating virtually all
aspects of our overall health. So for many years, we used to think, oh, you know, we have gas or
bloating or diarrhea, constipation. Oh, that's a reason that, you know, we must have some gut issues
going on. And yeah, those are definitely, we must have some gut issues going on.
And yeah, those are definitely signs
that you have some gut imbalance.
But what we're starting to understand now
is that there's really no condition out there,
no disease out there that's not associated
with some imbalance of the gut.
So when you talk about skin issues,
you talk about mood disorders, you know,
if you talk about allergies,
autoimmune issues, like I mentioned, all of those conditions are all associated
with our gut health. And recently there was a, but not recently, now 12 years ago,
the National Institutes of Health came out with a human microbiome project that
told us more about the gut than we ever knew before. And it basically told us that
we are 10 times more bacterial cells
than we are human cells. So that's worth repeating 10 times more bacterial cells than we are
human. So it's our bacteria that is dictating our overall health. And you know, yet we live
in this world that's so antibacterial, you know, from antibacterial hand sanitizers
to antibacterial hand soaps to all the cleaning products out there to antibiotics. I mean, we have so many offenders to our gut health every day, you know, the toxins that we're, you know, breathing the air we're breathing on on a daily basis. And it's why we're seeing this rise in allergies with kids.
It's why we're seeing this rise in
audio immune issues with kids and with adults.
We're seeing a rise in mental health disorder with children
and with adults.
And this is all due to this imbalance going on in our gut.
Well, it's really crazy how important it is to really have a healthy gut, right?
Because I feel like first of all, nothing's worse than when your stomach's not right, right?
I feel like it really does affect, it affects my day like crazy.
Like lately, you know, I think as I get older too, I am like dairy, right?
So dairy will just drive me crazy.
The milks, the cheese, the cold ice cream,
the having like, I love cereal. I've always loved cereal, but the cold milk in this
year, I now have to buy all the lactose and buy all the right things. I don't know if it's
like an age thing or what, but like for me, the gut is everything, especially bloating,
right? And that goes for all ages because I have my 17 year old daughter who will notice
that she's bloated
when she eats certain things
or when certain things enter her body.
And no one feels great when they're bloated.
I feel like that's just a huge thing.
Being bloated is just such like a,
it's like a thorn in your side
for the whole entire day.
And it kind of, it puts you in a mood, right?
Yeah, absolutely.
And we aren't supposed to be bloated after we eat something.
You know, it's like when, you know, they say,
Oh, I can't eat broccoli because it makes me bloated.
Well, that's a sign that there's something going on.
You know, there's some imbalance going on in our gut.
I mean, it's really, I would say it's hard to find anybody
that really doesn't have imbalance going on in their gut right now
because of this world we're living in, because of the things that are sprayed on our food supply, you know,
Roundup is sprayed all over our produce items. And so we're you know getting these glyphosate and these all of these
You know chemicals that are really destroying our gut bacteria
And so we're seeing people just get bloated after just eating anything or eating vegetables or things that we should be eating that are good for us.
So, you know, if you are bloated, we don't want to be bloated anymore. We want to figure out what that is.
And by, you don't want to just start eliminating foods, especially foods that are good for you.
And that's what I think our society has come to do. It's like, let's just eliminate things.
Let's go on a keto diet, a paleo diet, a vegan diet. I'm more of a fan of we need to be eating a diverse group
of foods. We need to be introducing tons of different kinds of fruits and vegetables and
different types of foods because that is so supportive of our the bacteria and our gut.
So, we don't want to be bloated and if you are bloating, that means there's some imbalance
going on in your gut. It's a sign. There is a sign. What are some of
the biggest disruptors that cause issues with stomach health? What do you think are the
biggest disruptors? Yeah. Probably one of the biggest ones out there are antibiotics.
And we know a lot of times we try to avoid antibiotics because we know that they're very
disruptive to our gut health. But we have even antibiotics in our food supply and animal
products. You're seeing them, you know, the animals are being fed antibiotics to make
them larger and bigger. And now that's being passed along to us humans. And so we also
are glyphosate. I mentioned the active ingredient in Roundup, which is being sprayed all over
our produce is very disruptive to our gut health. It's killing off those
beneficial bacteria in our gut. Stress is a huge offender to our gut health and people don't realize
that, but there is a huge connection between your gut and your brain. And so the more stressed out you
are, the more signals are being sent from the brain to the gut. And just to like remind everybody about
that that connection is like,
you know, you know, when you're excited about something, you have butterflies in your stomach.
That is because the brain is sending signals to the gut. And then the gut sends signals back to
the brain. So every, we are living in this society that is so stressed out constantly. We can't get
out of that fighter flight state. And we're literally getting, you know,
we're doing things that are so detrimental to our gut health.
So that's another big offender.
A processed foods is another big offender to our gut health.
Sugar, alcohol, I'm sorry to tell people,
but it's like, you know, they're offenders, you know.
And again, I'm not saying that we can't ever indulge
in those things.
It's just to be aware that those are really disrupting
our gut. And remember, it's our to be aware that those are really disrupting our gut.
And remember, it's our gut that is dictating our overall health.
It's really the core foundation of our overall health.
I mean, that's interesting.
And it's true.
Like, think about even if you're super nervous about something and you need to run to the
bathroom, right?
It's just because it's like your emotions, your feelings are connected to your gut. And I think
people do forget that I forget that sometimes, but it does make sense that when you're excited,
right, you get the butterflies, when you're nervous, you need to run to the bathroom. It's like,
I have this thing that whenever I'm going to go live, right on TV, I just, I have to pee 50 times.
Like it's just a thing inside my head. I just I have to keep running to the bathroom
I don't know why and I've heard multiple people who go live on television or if they get nervous about something
They constantly just need to keep like running to the bathroom. They don't know why and it's it's just a thing
I even feel that stress on an airplane if for some reason reason, it doesn't matter. The second I get on the plane,
I just feel like I just I have to run to the bathroom. I've used the bathroom. I've used the bathroom.
And it's just in my head. Or if I'm somewhere where I think there's not going to be a bathroom nearby,
that means I have to use it. Yeah. Yeah. I get like that with food. I'm always like, oh, if I'm
traveling somewhere, I need to make sure I have food. And I'll never touch the food in my bag. But I have to have it with me. So
absolutely. Oh my God. I mean, outside of bloating, I know we touched a little bit about
this, but outside of bloating, what are like some of the specific issues that can be caused
by these things? Outside of bloating. Yeah. So like gas. So flatulence, you know, people are having more
gassy diarrhea, constipation, a lot of, you know, mood disorder. So anything from anxiety, depression,
Alzheimer's has been leading to gut issues. Dementia, all of these things are, you know,
gut issues. Dementia, all of these things are, you know, ADD, ADHD, autism, all these types of conditions are all associated with some type of imbalance in our gut. Even like cancer
diabetes, you know, heart disease, all of these types of, you know, metabolic issues are
actually can find a root in the gut. We know that the gut is responsible for these because it's our microbes that are actually
Dictating how our immune system reacts to things so even our immune system 80% of our immune system is found in our gut lining
Any autoimmune issues or allergies skin issues is a big one people don't realize acne and different skin issues
is a big one. People don't realize acne and different skin issues rashes. Those are all stemming from imbalances in the gut. And it's not to say that there might not be topical treatments
that you might want to take, but we have to remember the focus should be getting to the
root cause and the root cause of so many skin issues oftentimes stem from the gut.
Right. I mean, that makes sense. Well, let's talk about probiotics for a minute.
Right. I mean, that makes sense. Well, let's talk about probiotics for a minute.
I think that we all need to know the science behind them. So what are probiotics? Yes. Well, probiotics are the friendly bacteria that you take. In our gut, we have
friendly bacteria, beneficial bacteria, and then we have pathogenic bacteria or the bad bacteria.
And so probiotics are meant to support, give your body more of the
friendly bacteria. But the problem with a lot of probiotics on the market is that the stomach acid
kills them before they get to the intestines. So we want a probiotic to arrive alive in the
intestines. So in order to get to the intestines, it has to pass through the stomach. And that stomach is very acidic. It's meant to be the gastric barrier.
And the overwhelming majority of probiotics actually are dying through that journey. They just the stomach acid will kill them. So really what you're getting is dead bacteria will give you some symptomatic relief. You might feel a little something, but you're not making a true change. You're not getting to the root
cause, making a true change in that intestinal tract, in those intestines. So,
it's really important that you take a probiotic that survives that journey
and gets to the intestines 100% alive and actually has the ability to make a
change in the gut flora. Is it okay to take a probiotic each and every day?
It depends on the probiotics.
So the probiotic strains that we work with are something called spore-based probiotics.
And those spore-based probiotic strains are the same type of strains that were found in nature
with our ancestors evolved eating off the land.
They would eat roots and tubers and vegetables off of the land.
And they would eat those bacteria or the soil and they would get that bacteria.
And they were meant to be consumed on a daily basis.
And because we are gut is disrupted on such a daily basis with all of these offenders
to our gut health, it's not only okay to take it on a regular basis,
it's critical to be taken on a daily basis because you want to counteract all those disruptors
that we're being faced with.
So yeah, the spores are really unique because they have this ability to survive the gastric
system.
We call them spores, they're not mushroom spores, they have this endospore shell around themselves,
making them very hardy.
And they are able to get through that gastric system in the stomach, they get to the intestines
alive, and then they take their spore shell off. And then they work there for about 21 to
28 days, doing all kinds of works throughout the entire intestinal tract. So it's why we
see such profound results with the product. And so different, we were disruptors bringing this category of probiotics to the market.
And it's why we see such profound results because they are getting, these are actual bacteria,
they're getting there alive and changing the environment in the gut.
I love to use this garden analogy. So if you envision a garden and the garden has been stepped
on and trampled on and there's weeds growing all over that garden. You kind of compare that to your gut. Your gut is you've got some like bad bacteria that's
overgrowing and it's taking over all the good bacteria. Well, what the spores do is they have the
ability to get that into that garden, the ability to get rid of those weeds in the garden and have
the ability to bring some of those plants that have been stepped on and traveled on back to life.
So if you bring that back to your intestines, it has these spores have the ability to attach
to the intestinal cell wall, help get rid of that overgrowth of the bad bacteria and help
the good bacteria come back to life in flourish.
So it's such an effective approach.
And again, why we see such great results with the product.
Hi, you're stomach.
It's kind of like its own ecosystem.
Like that's a great word Melissa.
That's what I use all the time.
It is an ecosystem and it works so beautifully together.

myths about the probiotics? I'll tell you this, I know that my doctor tells me
whenever I'm on antibiotics, right?
They always tell me to take a probiotic just to keep everything balanced and that makes
sense, right?
Well, that's a great doctor that's saying that on the problem is, yes, I mean, you should
definitely be on a high quality probiotic when you're on an antibiotic because the antibiotics
getting rid of the bad bacteria, but it's also getting rid of the good bacteria.
And there are studies that have shown that just a single course of clindomyosin,
like an antibiotic out there actually wreaks havoc on your gut for up to a two-year period.
So it is really important to support your gut while you're on an antibiotic,
and after you're on an antibiotic. But the problem is the majority of probiotics are destroyed
by the presence of an antibiotic.
So we've tested ours.
One of the big core values of our company is having research behind it.
And we have tested this that our product actually survives the presence of an antibiotic.
Just like the stomach acid kills the majority of other probiotics on the market, so to
do antibiotics. But we know that the spores actually survive the presence of other probiotics on the market, so to do antibiotics. But we
know that the spores actually survive the presence of an antibiotic. So yes, it's super,
super important that you are on an antibiotic, a spore-based probiotic, when you're on an
antibiotic, and then a good two months, three months after because you need to rebuild
that gut flora.
That makes complete sense. I mean, I know that one thing that just thrive
really does talk about is the connection, right?
Between how our bodies connected to our gut
and to everything else,
and it does have a direct impact on our mental health.
And I think stress and anxiety are more,
you know, they're more relevant
than ever
in our country, even with children. So can you talk to me about that a little bit and
how the two really do go together?
Yeah. Well, they're like I mentioned, I think I mentioned, there's something called the
Vegas nerve and the Vegas nerve is this bi-directional communication between the gut and the brain.
And so the brain is sending signals to the gut and the gut is sending signals and the brain. And so the brain is sending signals to the gut, and the gut is sending signals to the brain.
And what we have to remember is that, you know,
90% of our serotonin, which is our happy hormone,
is produced in our gut.
So all these really important neurotransmitters,
like serotonin is produced in our gut,
dopamine is produced in our gut.
Gaba, which is our calming hormone,
is produced in our gut.
So really important to focus on our gut health when we're talking about our mood health
and our mental health.
And you know, we've, I feel like psychiatrists have had their hands tied for decades now.
They've been using the same class of medications that SSRIs and anti-anxiety meds with really
minimal success.
I mean, there are some people who do have some success.
Thank God.
But, you know, there are a lot of other people who just don't have any success with those class of medications.
And I really feel that psychiatrists have had their hands tied because they are not looking.
They were not looking in the right place.
They're looking.
Now researchers are looking in the gut.
They're realizing it's the gut that is so responsible for our mental health.
We know, like I said, all these neurotransmitters are being produced in our gut and there's
this communication going back and forth to our gut.
So really, really important to be focusing on that gut brain connection and never underestimate
that your gut is responsible for your brain health and your mental health.
We have so many customers that will go to the product because maybe they have some gastrointestinal issues,
you know, their gas or bloating, whatever.
And then they'll say, you know, I have more energy,
you know, or I'm sleeping better.
I better weight management.
We hear that one all the time.
I mean, it's crazy what our gut is responsible for.
But, you know, we see people who are in better moods
after being on the product.
And, you know, it's kind of an unexpected, you know, side effects. You know, we laugh in the pharmaceutical
industry like side effects include, you know, suicidal thoughts and like death and bloody
stools, all these awful things where as in the our space, what we see with our product side effects
are like more energy, better mood, better weight management. So it's really, it's so exciting.
And I always say like, you have nothing to So it's really, it's so exciting.
And I always say like, you have nothing to lose by taking this because it's so important for your
immune system. It's supportive of your immune system. It's supportive of, you know, digestive
system, but also your mood health and your energy and and who doesn't want that.
I mean, everybody wants that. And we all want to improve all of these things. But I did hear a stat since 2020, okay, two out of three people report feeling
extreme stress.
And I think most of us are just trying to bring some sort of calmness into
our life, right?
At this point, we're appreciating the small things we want calm.
We are embracing the calm things. Can you tell me about your product?
That's called just calm. I want to hear all about that. Yes. Well, this is super exciting because we know the our probiotic alone
is going to be supporting that neurotransmitter production and and it's also going to be supporting
on signals that the gut would send up to the brain. So we know that alone will help.
What the just-com product is taking care of
is taking care of this other product.
There are this other issue
is these external stressors that we deal with.
We have these external stressors,
whether it's a, we get cut off in traffic
or we're in a fight with a loved one,
whatever it might be,
you have a fight with your sister-in-law or something along those lines.
So, you know, we've got to, we know that these things are going to happen to us.
And back in the day, you know, we had this fighter flight response.
So our ancestors would be chased by a saber-toe tiger and they would, you know,
go into this fighter flight state and, you know, that we wanted that.
It's a protective state to be in the fighter flight state.
And we want to be in that because, you know, we don't want to be killed by a saber to tiger. So we want to run really fast. Our adrenaline needs to go.
And that's great. Our cortisol levels go up and that's great. And but back in the day, people used to come be able to get down from that fighter flight state and just go into that rest and digest state.
be able to get down from that fighter flight state and just go into that rest and digest state. The problem now is we get a tweet. We read a tweet and
we are in this fighter flight state. And then we can't get down because then we get
cut off by traffic. And then, oh my god, then, oh, you're talking about the
story of my life. I love this right now. I need, where's the just calm? Give me
the just calm calm. Well, my Well, my God. I know.
I mean, and your story is just like everybody else is like,
we're dealing with so many of these stressors every day.
And the problem, and I will laugh you about it,
but it's really not funny that we cannot stay
in that fight or flight state.
We need to get down from that fight or flight state.
We need to get more in that rest and just state
because it's so important for our overall health. And so just calm is a product that is a really
important probiotic ingredient called bifidolongam 1714. This strain is so important. What it does
is actually helps, the studies have shown that it actually helps us be able to perceive stress
better. So we're able
to handle those daily stressors on a daily basis better. It brings our cortisol levels down.
You know, we are in that fight or flight state and we have this this rush of cortisol that gets
dumped in our gut and causes inflammation. We don't want that. You know, we need to be getting
down from that state. So we know this just comp product actually,
the studies are showing that it's actually
changing our brain wave activity.
So bringing us into a beta wave state,
which is more that flow state, that calm state.
It doesn't make you tired.
It makes us just more in that calm state
where we're able to handle things.
In fact, there was another study on this strain
about cognitive function, that it helps perform, helps you with cognitive function, so your ability to perform. So,
you know, I was speaking at an event last weekend and I was so excited that I had that because
I'm like, oh, I need to make sure that I'm able to be, you know, on my best game when
I'm speaking. My son just took finals in college and I'm like, you need to be on this
before your finals. So it's because it's really supportive of your cognitive function as well.
And again, it's all studied. It's profound studies.
So it's something called a psychobiotic. So it's kind of a new term in the industry.
It's a psychobiotic is a term to identify probiotic strains that help support that
brain connection, help support mood and mental health. So really exciting new product.
We again, we're disruptors when we launched our probiotics scores that we first talked
about.
And we were disruptors when we brought these psychobiotic strains to the market.
And we're seeing incredible results with the product as well.
You've had some personal incredible results, correct?
From that to help me about that.
Oh my gosh. If you knew me back
before I started this, I was like hyper hyper, you know, really? Yes. Yes. I mean, I was
wanting a business. I have three kids. They're all in sports. They all play college sport. I mean,
it was, you know, running around, you know, I'm saying, my if you're living running around, it's crazy.
And is it something that you would take every day also?
It is something you take every day.
A lot of times people will say, oh, maybe I should take it before bad because it's calming
and it's certainly fine to take it before a bad, especially if you have a lot of trouble
sleeping.
But we actually suggest to take it during in the morning.
So you start your day off in a really great mental state, you know, your sharp, your calm,
you're able to deal with things better.
So take it in the morning or you could take it in the morning and at night, it doesn't
matter.
And it doesn't cause sleeping ifs.
That's what you're saying.
So it's okay to take in the morning.
Absolutely.
Correct.
Wow.
I mean, this has been very insightful.
I love all of it.
Where can listeners go for guidance with Just Thrive?
Where if they want to read up more and learn more about it.
Yeah, I would definitely recommend that people read up more. It's a great, we have a great website.
We're very focused on research and our blog. So if you go to JustThriveHell.com, you could read up more.
You could contact, we have a product coach on our team, if you want to know which product to start with.
But I would always recommend you just start with a probiotic that is where you start. And if you want to know which product to start with. But I would always recommend you just start with a probiotic that is where you start.
And if you want to introduce the just calm,
I would wait a couple of weeks just so you could, you know,
just so you could see what results you're seeing
with a probiotic first.
And then maybe three weeks later, four weeks later,
you could start introducing the just calm.
So many people want the just calm right away.
And if you want to start at the same time, go right ahead.
But I always like to see, you know, there's no problem just calm right away. And if you want to start at the same time, go right ahead. But I always like to see, you know,
there's no problem starting it right away.
It's just, I like to see what one does
and then see what the other one does.
