Starting point is 00:00:00 to circle back to RFK Junior briefly, you know I'm a freedom of speech absolutist, nominal libertarian, but the way things have been going on Twitter lately, I'm kind of like, maybe I don't like freedom of speech. I'm like, I'm like kind of pining for the days of that Indian guy like clamping down on me. I'm like, let's clear some of the riffraff out, if you know what I mean. I was away from Twitter for a while because I was palling around with some downtown New York skate wiggers. Good for you. Which was a real breath of fresh air. What was I going to say? You are going to read that. Oh yeah, I mean, but I you know my feeling is if Twitter feels increasingly unbearable, it's not because people are like uncharacteristically
Starting point is 00:00:51 cruel or increasingly mentally ill. It's because the whole thing feels so exhausted. Yeah, everything is just a series now of like inside jokes and memes, which makes things feel not only intellectually stultifying, but also spiritually impoverished, because self referentiality is a dead end. Yeah. It just a lot gets lost in the sauce of like churning out the hot takes. Yeah. Someone asked me recently, do you think you'll get in trouble for your tweets? And I was like, no, because they're so like, encrypted. And like, it's so like, if a civilian were to look at my feed, they wouldn't even understand what I was talking about. Yeah. But he so basically in this article, he's kind of attempting to reckon with what we've all been feeling lately, the articles called
Starting point is 00:01:52 what was Twitter anyway, whether the platform is dying or not, it's time to reckon with exactly how it broke our brains. And he has like this one man's struggle session describing the ordeal he went through when he fired off an innocent and harmless tweet about the Lee Crusade X Star Wars collab. And yes, it was being dunked on by various corners of the Twitter community. I mean, there's two cardinal rules of Twitter. Number one, only the dumbest tweets do numbers. And number two, only the most obviously inane and joking tweets are ever subject to pile on. Right. And he kind of learned this the hard way. I'll quote him. Luckily, the sheer inanity of the topic offered a measure of safety you don't typically get when you bring negative attention
Starting point is 00:02:48 to yourself on Twitter, I could afford to take the anthropological view I felt like Bill Paxton at the end of Twister strapped in and able to see the down the barrel of the sing and admire its beautiful treacherous contours. So he became acquainted with the inner workings of the Twitter formula in a fairly benign way. Mid discourse is now functionally just Twitter discourse. Yeah, it's like a microcosm. There's no one. These people won't say is meant.
