Hey true crime besties.
Welcome back to an all new episode of Serialistly.
Hey everyone, welcome back to an all new episode of Serialistly with me, Annie Elise, Headline Highlights edition.
We are going to be going over everything today that is going on in the true crime world this
week and I know I say it every week, but there really is a lot to talk about because not
only are there some insane new cases that are breaking and that are
really unfolding this week, but we also have quite a few updates in some of the really large cases
that we've talked about on this podcast. There's updates in the Alexi Trevizo case, which as a
reminder, she's that 19 year old girl who threw her baby away inside the hospital trash can.
We also have Madeline Soto's mom who her interview just was released
from when Madeline went missing
and there's some very disturbing information in that.
It's brand new information that hasn't been out there
so we're gonna go through that.
There's some updates in some other cases
but we also have a lot of new cases.
So I feel like you might be with me
a little bit longer than usual today
but hopefully you don't mind.
But I wanna just jump right in and this first case takes us to Michigan. So in Lenawee County, Michigan,
a 53-year-old woman who was a wife and mother named Dee Warner first went missing back on April
25, 2021. She was last seen dropping her daughter off at school. Then she told a friend that she
was going to go and meet her husband, Dale Warner. But after that, Dee was never seen again.
So for months, the authorities were searching for Dee, but there was no sign of her.
There was also no indication as to where she could have gone.
Now obviously, many people were looking at her husband, Dale.
Not only because in situations like this, typically you look at the spouse or the partner first,
but also because Dee was going to see him right before she went missing. But Dale and his lawyers
claimed that D she just packed up and left. And this was something that he
said she had actually done before.
Well, I don't know. She's missing her. She just left. She's gone. She took all
her bags. So somebody picked her up. So she's with someone somewhere. However,
there was no activity on her cell phone. There was also no activity on any of her bank
accounts. So the theory that she just got up and left, it seemed pretty unlikely, right? And
wouldn't you know it, it was eventually determined that Dale and Dee got into an argument right
before her disappearance. Also, multiple people close to D came forward saying they saw signs that Dale was physically abusing D.
She said Dale and I got into a fight and he pushed me into the dresser.
D's home and the surrounding property were searched, but no evidence was ever found. However, in November of 2023, Dale was arrested for Dee's murder, despite never even finding Dee's body.
But now, a breaking update here this week,
is on August 16th, the police found human remains
on one of Dale's properties.
There was a body that was discovered,
and it was welded shut inside a large gas tank.
The tank had also been painted over.
It was kind of like to hide the fact
that it had been cut open.
So, an autopsy was scheduled on these remains for Tuesday, August 20th. However, the medical
examiner concluded that they were going to have to do further testing in order to confirm the
identity of these remains. That's how in poor shape they were, how decomposed they were. There
was going to have to be additional testing. But D's friends and family are positive that these
remains belong to D. So, we're still waiting on the autopsy, but we know Dale has been arrested.
He was arrested a little under a year ago.
So now hopefully the murder charges will stick.
Hopefully they'll have enough evidence if he is the one that truly did this to her.
I mean the fact that the remains were found on his property,
unless he is in the habit of just killing people and disposing of them on his property,
I would say it's pretty likely that it's Dee.
So at least if they do conclude that and are able to figure that out, not only will the murder charges
stick, but also hopefully her family and friends can actually begin their grieving process and
beginning to move forward. Now let's talk about a Miami psychologist who's accused of trafficking.
So a 45-year-old woman from Miami, Florida named Maria Duarte has been charged with child trafficking. This was after she apparently lured a 15 year old girl to
her hotel room. Sick.
So on Tuesday, August 13th, Maria saw the girl walking her dog around the pool area,
apparently of the Aloft Miami Daedaline Hotel. So Maria approached this girl and quote, quickly
gained her trust. She did this by telling the teen girl
that she was a psychologist.
So then the teen apparently confided in Maria
about a lot of personal issues that she was experiencing.
And during the conversation,
Maria started offering this teen alcohol, marijuana.
However, the young girl declined her offer.
The next day, however,
the teen met Maria inside her hotel room, and Maria then started
taking pictures of her.
She then sent those photos to a man, telling him that this girl was actually 21 years old,
and further, that this girl wanted to have sex with him.
However, the teenager told Maria that she didn't want to have sex with this man.
I mean, not at all.
However, Maria just kept hounding her about it over and over again.
So eventually this man came to that hotel room.
But instead of the teen having sex with him,
Maria started having sex with him.
And then she forced this teenage girl to watch and record it,
which how sick and twisted are you?
In the video, Maria is even heard telling this teenager
that she was quote, teaching her what to do.
After that, another man arrived.
Maria tried to leave this teenage girl alone with this man,
but the girl said multiple times
that she was uncomfortable with it.
And at one point, the teen girl heard Maria tell
these two men that she was in fact only 15.
Maria also told this girl to go
and make the man quote, feel good.
The girl continued to say no,
but the man then sexually assaulted her.
The next day the girl went to the police
and she told them everything that happened,
which thank goodness I am so happy
she was brave enough to do that.
Maria ultimately was found, she was then arrested,
and when she was appearing in court,
she wore a suicide vest and claimed
to have never even touched this young girl.
I'm a PhD, I will lose my license and my life. I need help. I've never even touched that girl.
Kiss her. The facts alleged in here are terrible facts. Maria is being held without bond and is
set to appear in court again in a few weeks. Right now, the men involved have not been named. They
also have not been arrested. However, I just want to go back to one thing I said really quick about this young girl's bravery, especially at just
15 years old. Because had she not gone to the police the very next day, it is very
likely, in my opinion, and just I mean statistically speaking, if we're gonna be
honest, that Maria certainly would have done this again. She would have found a
new target. She would have found a new prey. And if it wasn't for this girl, who knows how many people would have fallen victim to
that.
So, I mean, I've got to commend her bravery.
Now, I want to take a sidestep here and we're going to talk about a case that is true crime
related but it also is celebrity news.
And the reason I want to talk about it, I haven't ever really talked about it in Headline
Highlights or on my main channel.
Not for any particular reason, but it seemed like at the time it was very open and shut regarding the details. But now a lot more information has come
to light. And it's the case about Matthew Perry. You guys know Matthew Perry. He's the Friends star.
He played Chandler. He was super famous. He was in a bunch of things. I remember he was also in an
amazing movie that I loved called Fool's Rush In', but you also probably know that in October of 2023,
he was found dead in his jacuzzi.
It was later revealed that his cause of death
was quote, acute effects of ketamine.
But now five people have been charged
in connection with his death.
Two of them doctors,
one of them Matthew's live-in personal assistant,
a friend, and then also a drug dealer
who is known as the ketamine queen.
It's alleged that these people noticed Matthew's worsening ketamine addiction in the fall of 2023.
And instead of helping him, they actually used this as an opportunity to make themselves more money,
to make themselves rich.
In fact, the two doctors involved found out that Matthew wanted ketamine,
and they exchanged text messages with each other such as,
I wonder how much this moron will pay for it.
Let's find out.
I mean, truly just sick.
As a doctor, isn't there like some sort of oath
that you take, do no harm?
So not only are you inflicting harm
by giving this person drugs that they clearly don't need
and that they're addicted to,
but also you're trying to gouge him for money
to see how much he will pay you
and how rich you can get off of this.
These doctors ended up giving him 20 vials of ketamine, which Matthew paid for, apparently
55 grand in cash.
The doctors injected him with the ketamine, and they also taught Matthew's live-in assistant
how to do it as well.
I believe the assistant is like 59 years old or something like that, and I think he had
been working with Matthew for like 20 years or something, but don't quote me on that. But in another text message, one of the doctors said, it was all like a bad movie.
Now there were a lot of text messages that I found as I was researching this, and if you guys want a
deep dive on this case, I certainly will. Let me know either on the Spotify Q&A section or in the
review section on Apple. The only reason I haven't done the deep dive is because like I said before,
it seemed very open and shut. But when I saw all of these text messages that come out and I'm just skimming the surface right now. It is
Super unnerving. Not only are they talking about taking advantage of him financially, but the doctors also said, you know
We're not gonna be in the office
But I told my nurse to give you whatever you need
They were referring to it the vials of ketamine as Dr. Pepper for code and it's just really sick and it shows you,
I guess, not only how money can get you whatever you want, but how people take advantage of people
who are weak, who are addicts, who have money. So anyways, these doctors had brought the 20
vials of ketamine over which he paid for and then they injected him. Apparently at some point he
ran out because then Matthew's assistant contacted a friend who then reached out to the
quote ketamine queen. Together they coordinated more sales of ketamine for Matthew. On the day
of his death, Matthew's assistant injected him with three shots of ketamine. These were all
purchased from the ketamine queen. One of the doctors and the drug dealer have pled not guilty,
however the other doctor, the friend, and Matthew's personal assistant have all pled guilty.
They've pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine.
So, we'll see what happens with this case and what happens once it goes to trial for the two who are pleading not guilty
and what other information will surface because I would imagine through depositions, the discovery, all of that,
not only will more text messages surface, more information about how long they've been in contact, all of the things, but I would imagine
we're also gonna probably see some sort of client list
from the Ketamine Queen.
If they seize her devices,
if they start digging through everything,
I wonder what we will really find out.
Like how deep does all of this go?
I mean, I think we all kind of know
that drug use is rampant, right?
Especially with elites and celebrities and A-listers,
all of the things, but I'm happy that people are finally being held accountable because it is extremely dangerous.
And look, he was trying to get help. He said he needed help. He knew he was an addict. He was
battling it time and time again, day in and day out. And if he didn't have these people helping
and enabling him, maybe it would have been a different outcome. So it's nice to see that
people are finally being held accountable. I think the last time that we've ever seen somebody getting held accountable when
it comes to drug use like this was in the Michael Jackson situation. We didn't see it with Anna
Nicole. We haven't seen it with others. So I'm glad that we're kind of like going in this direction
now. Now let's talk about an update in Alexi Treviso. And I'm gonna try to keep my composure, but this girl gets under my skin.
So I covered the case of Alexi Treviso back in July of 2023.
I covered it on my YouTube channel, 10 to Life.
I also covered it here on the podcast, so I will link the full deep dive episode of
the podcast actually here in the show notes so that if you haven't listened to it, you
can go back and check it out.
But it's disgusting.
I just want to warn you of that ahead of time.
But to give a quick refresher, Alexi is a 19-year-old girl from New Mexico, and she
was charged with putting her baby in a trash can after suffocating him.
This is after she gave birth to him in a hospital bathroom.
Now this whole case is crazy, very sad, very horrific, but basically Alexi had been saying
that she didn't even know
she was pregnant, that she went in for back pain
to the hospital or something like that,
and then she went to the bathroom, delivered this baby,
put the baby in the trash bag, and then went back
to the hospital room like nothing ever happened,
and her mom was with her, and the body cam footage
from this is unnerving, so you definitely wanna go check out
that deep dive, but then, as we started digging,
the truth really came out. She did know she was pregnant. She had talked to her friends about it.
She also had been on the cheerleading team and she was seen cheering at different games and
different events where she was full on pregnant. So it's disgusting. It seemed very much just like
one of those cases we unfortunately hear about time and time again where a teenage girl or even
a young mother, old mother, whomever has a baby, doesn't want the baby, and throws them in a dumpster or trash can
of sorts. So it seemed as though, okay great, she's been charged, they have the information,
she'll be held accountable. Her case was scheduled to go to trial later this month,
but the trial has now been delayed. Alexi's attorney filed a motion to suppress evidence,
and he said that Alexi and her mom had made statements at the hospital
that were in fact protected by doctor-patient privilege,
and that Alexi was also not read her rights
when the police came.
And get this, a judge ruled in favor
of Alexi and her defense team.
But now the DA's office is trying to appeal this ruling.
However, the original trial date is now canceled,
and the New Mexico Supreme Court is considering this appeal
because after the hospital staff found the dead baby
in that bathroom trash can,
police were of course called, right?
And Alexi told a doctor, quote,
I'm sorry, it came out of me.
I didn't know what to do.
So the prosecution is arguing
that this is an admission of guilt.
However, the defense argues that these statements
along with Alexi's medical records
that were provided to law enforcement, should all
be protected by HIPAA. However, the prosecution has argued that HIPAA does
not protect medical records that are needed for a criminal investigation. So
the trial right now is currently delayed or I guess otherwise canceled, you can
say, which is enraging because Alexi is now in nursing school, none the wiser,
just going about life and literally unscathed, no accountability,
no justice for her dead baby
that she just left in that bathroom trash can
at the hospital.
This has been a case that has stuck with me
for so, so long because again,
you need to see the deep dive,
but once we uncovered all that information,
we also saw the body cam footage
and went through it where the mom was defending her.
She didn't want her to be arrested. She was saying that she shouldn't be arrested. She's innocent and all this.
I mean, it's the amount of privilege and
entitlement and just zero accountability is enraging.
Honestly, it truly is. So I will be following this very closely and I will keep you updated.
But if you want that deep
dive you can listen to it after this. I will link it in the show notes. And now we're going to move
into another enraging case, and this one is about a pair of teenagers in Vegas who robbed and killed
a man. If you guys have listened to the show before, you've probably heard me rave about Beam Dream.

All right, so now we are moving over to Vegas. On July 19th, around 8 p.m., police were called to
an apartment complex in Las Vegas. Neighbors had reported hearing multiple gunshots. And when the
police arrived, they found a 19-year-old boy named Connor in that parking lot, dead. He was bleeding
from his head, and he was also holding a gun in his hand.
It was determined that Connor had been shot in the head.
Now, someone who lived in the apartment complex told the officers that she saw Connor walking
with a woman, when then three men ran up to him, jumped him, and these men started beating
him up, and then they pistol-whipped Connor multiple times.
And then she says she saw one of these men shoot Connor.
So as they're investigating, an officer who arrived on the scene saw a woman and two men
get into a car in that apartment parking lot.
The officer noticed that the group matched the description of the suspects who supposedly
jumped Connor from this eyewitness testimony.
So the officers followed the car.
And eventually, these three people who were inside were arrested. They were 22-year-old Nathan Nava, 23-year-old Skylar Bailey, and also one of
Nathan's family members. Nathan said that they were at a friend's apartment when Connor, along with
two other men, suddenly just showed up. Nathan said that the two men with Connor said that Connor
owed them money, so they were going to rob him. Nathan said that he didn't want to be involved, also that he never even saw a gun. Skyler said that she met Connor
about a month earlier at a party. So eventually, police spoke to one of Connor's friends, and
this friend told the detectives that Connor had been talking to a girl named Emily on Instagram,
and he was actually planning to go and meet up and hook up with her, and that was the whole
scenario. They planned to meet up the day that Connor was killed.
Detectives searched the phones of Connor, Nathan, and Skyler and when they did, they
found messages between Skyler and this girl, Emily, whose full name is Emily Riddout.
They also discovered that Emily and Skyler?
They were actually sisters.
Now from their text messages, it was clear that these two girls were having financial
troubles. They had been evicted from their home,, it was clear that these two girls were having financial troubles.
They had been evicted from their home, along with their children.
These text messages between Emily, Nathan, and Skylar showed that they were actually
planning to lure Connor to that apartment on the premise that he and Emily were going
to hook up using that as the ruse.
Then once he got there, they just planned to rob him.
Now in one of the messages, Emily asks her sister Skylar, quote, How do you know he's even going to have the money on him? And Skyler replies with,
He always brings it with him. He likes to look flashy and show off.
Other messages between Nathan and Skyler show that Nathan had a history of robbing people,
and they were just talking about everything so casually. They were even talking about where
they were going to get a gun. On Connor's Instagram, detectives also found that he often did post pictures of large wads of cash.
However, they determined that he worked for an ATM company
and that all of that cash was just the money
that Connor was loading into these ATMs.
It wasn't necessarily his own.
It was like he was trying to flex
or show off that he had this money
when in reality he didn't.
And police ended up speaking with Connor's boss who said,
he did warn him not to post pictures of money online because it could make him an easy target for robbery. So Nathan,
Skyler, and Emily have all been arrested, as I said, and they've also been charged with open murder,
battery to commit robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Their preliminary hearing is
set for September 17th. Police do think that there is a fourth person involved because of the text
messages between
Nathan and somebody named, quote, Spaz Out.
I don't know who that is or what that possibly could be a nickname for.
Your guess is as good as mine.
However, at this time, the identity of that person is unknown.
So now, going into this next case.
It takes us to Washington.
On August 10th in Seattle, Washington, neighbors called 911 because there was water that
was flowing out of a neighbor's apartment. This neighbor was 25-year-old Andy Chu. Firefighters
arrived and they entered this apartment slash condo where inside they found the body of a woman
dead on the bathroom floor. The woman was later identified as 25-year-old Zoe He. She was Andy's
girlfriend. Now when she was found she had an ice pack on her throat
and also a block that was supporting the back of her head.
Acai powder was also sprinkled all over her body.
She had injuries to her face, head, neck, and chest,
and the bathtub and the sink faucet were both left on,
so the water is what had filled this apartment slash condo
and why it started leaking and why the neighbors ended up calling it in.
Video footage from a neighbor's door camera shows that the couple arrived at Andy's apartment around 4.45 p.m. on August 9th.
The next morning around 8 a.m., Andy left the apartment by himself.
Trash pickup was that morning, and he apparently brought all of his neighbor's trash cans back to their homes.
But this was something that he had never, ever, ever done before.
So that, coupled with the fact that the next day they found his girlfriend dead inside
his apartment, it wasn't looking good.
But police couldn't find Andy until the next day, until August 11th.
And that was when they received a phone call that a patient at a nearby hospital had groped
a nurse.
Now, that patient ended up being Andy.
He had apparently been taken to this hospital by his friends because of what they were
calling quote psychotic behavior. Andy was eventually taken to the police
station and he was interviewed. His story was a little bit hard to follow though
and it was constantly changing. However, eventually he stated that he quote
thought he may have killed Zoe. He claimed that he did remember choking her,
also twisting her neck and holding her underwater in the bathtub. He said he may have killed Zoe. He claimed that he did remember choking her, also twisting her neck
and holding her underwater in the bathtub. He said he may have also even broken her neck.
He then said that he took her out of the bathtub, placed her on the floor, and sprinkled her body
with acai powder. Then he placed a golf ball in her mouth to quote, fix her jaw. He says he wasn't
sure why he killed her, except for the fact that she was, according to him, quote,
acting weird. He later admitted to smoking weed and also taking two pills of molly, which is basically like ecstasy.
So he is currently in jail and his bond is set at five million dollars.
Now what a lot of people are fixated on regarding this case is the fact that he put this golf ball in her mouth to fix her jaw.
People are saying, did he really suffer a psychotic break? Was he having manic episodes like his
friends were indicating and why they took him to the hospital? Who's putting a
golf ball in somebody's mouth to level or reset their jaw that they had broken?
Or was that done to be kind of like a you know a jaw breaker where they choke
on it? Who knows? But it's definitely an unnerving detail. I also have no idea what the
deal is with sprinkling her body with all that acai powder. If you know what that could be about,
let me know, but to my knowledge that wouldn't do anything and that wouldn't affect anything.
Maybe I'm missing something, but let me know if you know what the deal is with that.
Now let's move into some Madeline Soto updates. This is a case that we have covered in depth many,
many times, and there continues to be
more horrific updates, honestly,
every couple of weeks, it seems.
So recently, the YouTube channel called Grisly True Crime
released audio clips from Madeline's mom,
Jen Soto's interview.
This was from her interview with the police
on February 27th, 2024.
As a reminder, Madeline Soto is the 13-year-old little girl who was allegedly
sexually assaulted and killed by her mom's boyfriend, Stefan Stern. This case is disgusting.
I will also link the deep dive. They found all sorts of explicit child material on Stefan's
phone, dating back indicating that he had been abusing her sexually for years. A lot
of people think the mother was involved and knew more, and that's why all of these interviews
that are being released now
are helping paint a clearer picture,
but the deep dive is over there.
Now, as of now, Stefan is the only person
who has been arrested for Madeline's death,
but many people have speculated
if her mom, Jen, knew what he was doing to her daughter,
and if she was more involved in Madeline's death,
then she's leading on.
Now, in the interview, Jen tells the investigator
that Madeline and Stefan had been sleeping upstairs together.
She also talked about the strange sleeping arrangements
that the three of them had and what happened on the morning
of Madeline's disappearance and death.
You send them upstairs, right?
How many bedrooms are upstairs?
Three.
OK.
Where?
In bedroom number four.
OK.
She's got like a semi, like a desk with a bedroom and a TV
and a dresser. But she does she'll hang out there during the day but she never sleeps
there. She always sleeps with me. And then the rare occasion upstairs. But most of the
time it's with me. Okay. Did you see her on Monday morning? Visually see her? No. Did you hear her? I heard many people in the kitchen.
I'm not sure if it was my roommate or her specifically. Okay is your roommate a male or
a female? Female. Okay. They're both females. When was the last time you physically saw her?
Wednesday 11 o'clock. I'm sorry Sunday when 11 o'clock. Sunday when you sent her to bed.
I'm pretty sure he was.
What was he doing?
He was sitting in my room at my computer desk on this phone.
What did you guys do?
We chatted for a little bit. I asked him what had happened
because he had called me earlier at 10 pretty sure he called me around 1018.
What did he call you for? To let me know that they didn't go to McDonald's as planned.
He had asked her multiple times if she wanted to stop at McDonald's because that was the
plan the night before, that they were going to wake up early, he was going to take her
to McDonald's, do like a special McDonald's breakfast and then drop her off at school
early because she wanted to get there a little early.
But on his way to school, she was very sleepy and wanted to sleep in the car.
And she said she did not want to do McDonald's.
She just wanted to be dropped off.
Okay.
Also to let me know that he left his phone at home, because I had called him multiple
times and he had picked up.
He had left his phone at home by accident. He had went to
the vape shop but they didn't open on time so he had waited for quite a while in front
of the vape shop. They didn't open so he left and came back and we hung out a little bit
and then I think he left again to the vape shop to go buy what he needed.
Okay.
Do you want the name of the vape shop?
Um, yes.
Um, if you have it on top of your mind, I'm sure we're going to talk again soon and we'll
have more.
No, I'm just saying because that might be helpful if you want to see like surveillance
or anything.
Okay so at some point I understand he gets like a flat tire and he's not able to go with
you to pick up his school.
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah.
And when you get to the school, how do you realize that she's she wasn't there?
So I left for I went to go I usually leave around 2 30 to pick her up she
gets out of school at 4 so I wait that it takes me about 20-25 minutes to get to the
school and then I wait about an hour for her to get out. I waited the whole time and then when the bell rang and then it was time for her
to come out, she wasn't one of the first kids like she normally is. And I realized I was
holding up the line because everyone behind me had children and they needed to get out
because I was the first in line. So after about, I'm say I think it was like 4 10 she didn't come
out and I was holding up the line so I drove away I said maybe I forgot to tell
her that I was picking her up that day because I don't know if she knew that I
wasn't working that day but I had assumed that she thought, you know, she knew that I was going to go get her.
So because she never came out, I left and I went to the school.
She works less than, I'm going to say it's like a three minute drive from the school.
It's very close.
She works in the Hunter's Week
uh villages area. I drove that way and I drove along the path that she would walk and I didn't
see her. And then office I asked, hey has she gotten here yet? They said no. And I said okay Okay, let me wait a little bit and I parked back again on Hunter's Vista, Hunter's Park
Lane, I think.
And I waited along that lane to see if I would see her walking.
And I didn't see her walking.
And it was about 430, 435.
At this point, she should have left the office.
So I went back to the office.
And then I was like, is she here yet? at this point she should have. So I went back to the office and then.
I was like, is she here yet?
Oh, she hasn't gotten here.
I said, okay, hold on.
Let me, let me see.
I called her best friend and I was like, hey, are you?
I don't know if I told her I was taking her up from school today or to
walk to the office, but I don't see her anywhere.
And she goes, no, she never came to school today.
She didn't come to first or second period and I said what do you
mean we dropped her off close to school she should have walked to school she
goes no she never made it to any of her periods and I said can you please check
with your other friends in your other classes to see if she ever made it she
got back to me said no at this point I started to panic because I realized
something was wrong. I emailed
one of her teachers, a few of her teachers actually, and one of them
responded to me. He said she didn't make it to his to his period at all and he
checked all her other classes and she'd make it to school at all. That's when I
knew something was truly wrong and I'm not sure if it was before that email or after that email but I started
panicking and freaking out because she should have been to school she should
have made it and then I understand she forgot her phone right yeah is it common
for her to not have her phone yes she's that ADHD she's super forgetful she
doesn't even she never realizes that she's in
the shower for a whole hour she loses track of time she loses she's very and
then you guys look went looking for her right yes where did you look like did
you drive somewhere did you walk like where did you go look for her okay so
after her best friend called me actually or I talked to her best friend on the phone,
I went back to the school to see, let me check her official attendance, let me see what's
going on.
They were already closed, nobody was at the school.
So I searched by backtracking into the school and then coming back out and seeing that there
were no kids at the school at all so then I drove to the office everything was driving and
then I think that response from her teacher at that point but um
did you come back to the apartment at any point yesterday?
Once you realized she was missing?
Stefan was at home, uh, waiting for us to get back.
And then when I told him something was wrong, she never made it to school.
He completely hauled it back to me.
And then we all stood there waiting for the cops to show up and they didn't show
up till like
7 30. It took them a while to respond. I think they were looking for other missing kids around the area too.
But yeah, no, we did not come back home until we were done with the police. We were done with
everything. There was nothing else for us to do except come back phone. Where was her phone when all of this was happening?
With me.
How did you get the phone if you never came back here?
I took it with me to go pick her up from school.
I was going to give it to her when she got in the car and be like,
listen, you forgot your phone again and let her play on it.
I'll do that sometimes when she forgets it.
I bring the phone with me and I just give it to her afterwards
But I had brought it with me to go pick her up from school. Okay, and you
works where
Yeah, and then
Did you at any point
Check her phone out while you had it? Yes.
Tell me about it.
Actually, I started looking but I could not concentrate on reading anything.
I was too panicked and too worried.
I handed the phone to my sister.
She's the one and my niece.
They both started going through her texts.
I saw her texts.
Nothing seemed weird.
No weird random people. Everyone is someone I was familiar with or had heard about.
And you know, I gotta say,
Jen is pretty cool, calm, and collected
for somebody whose daughter is missing.
Throughout this whole interview, I mean, she remains calm.
And the investigator continued to ask Jen
where Madeline's phone was.
And Jen just casually said it was at home,
before then saying that it actually was with the police.
She says she forgot that they had taken it,
which does seem like something weird to just forget,
but I get it, everybody panics and grieves differently,
but listen.
I think it's been home all day today too.
It's been home all day today?
I'm pretty sure, yeah.
What time did the police take her phone? I think it's been home all day today too. It's been home all day today? I'm pretty sure, yeah.
What time did the police take her phone? Oh, just kidding, just kidding. Yeah, they took it, they took it. I don't have it anymore.
And I've made so many phone calls today and seen so many people today that I don't know.
Was it light out or dark out?
It was light out, it was light out.
It was still light?
Yeah, it was during the daytime.
And then, but other than that her phone was here all day?
In the morning, yes.
Did you guys take the phone anywhere
other than when Detective Hunt took the phone?
I think it's been home all day.
Yeah, from, I don't think I left the house with him.
Okay, did Stefan have access to the phone?
I'm sorry, I took my medicine so I feel a little species.
Um, I think I've had it with me. I think it's been with me.
Okay, did you go through her phone today?
Yes.
Okay, where was that at?
Here.
And what were you looking for at that time?
To see if there was anything else.
What we couldn't access on Monday night was roadblocks,
so my niece came over and logged into her roadblocks
and checked out messages.
But then they were also look.
My sister was also looking for her phone to see
if there was anything here at the house,
and that was today. Yes,
so then the detectives tell Jen that they're going to phone to see if there was anything. Here at the house? Yes. And that was today?
Yes.
So then the detectives tell Jen
that they're gonna need to go and search the apartment.
So everybody who lives in the apartment
needs to go somewhere else for the night,
which did seem to really frustrate Jen
because she said she didn't know where they would go.
She also mentioned that Stefan went out
in the middle of the night, quote,
cruising around trying to find Madeline,
which if you've been following this case,
you know he wasn't exactly searching for
her during this time.
It was more as though he went back to the dump site and moved her body.
Because again, and I'm sorry to jump around here a little bit, but in case you're not
familiar with the story, the morning she disappeared, they said that they had dropped her off at
school or a parking lot adjacent to the school.
She was going to cross the street, walk and then go to the school.
Then when her mom went to pick her up, she wasn't there.
They reported her missing.
But then when they pulled the CCTV footage,
they showed that Madeline was inside Stefan's car with him,
allegedly at that point was already dead,
but he had her propped up in the seat to look alive.
He had dumped her school laptop, her backpack,
all of those things, and then dumped her body.
So at another time, the following night,
or I guess early hours of that same day
that she had disappeared,
they tracked movements from the car to the site where she was found.
So it's not confirmed, but it's suspected that either he was moving the body, he was
dumping more stuff, he was trying to conceal things, he definitely wasn't just cruising
around to find Madeline.
And like I said, just in general during all of this, Jen was very, very calm.
And at one point, the detective even
mentions the violent crime unit coming in to investigate, and Jen doesn't even question this.
She doesn't seem to flinch. Now, I don't want to point fingers and say I think she's guilty or that
she was more involved, but what I will say is this. If you are a grown woman in today's world that we
live in, and you're allowing your teenage daughter to sleep in bed with your boyfriend,
who is an adult male, when you are not there,
that is a problem and that is reckless, period.
Whether you know something is going on or not,
please never, never do that.
But also, by a lot of the other things
that they had uncovered, I don't know if she was
necessarily complicit in the abuse that was happening
for years allegedly, but I would think it's more likely
that perhaps she was involved in the coverup.
Like maybe something went too far with Stefan and Madeline.
He panicked, he did something.
She knows that he was involved somehow
and she was helping cover it up.
Again, that's just my opinion.
There's no proof indicating that at this point.
However, they are still investigating it
and a lot of people think it is only a matter of time
until the mother's arrested as well. So I will link the deep dive episodes to not only this case but also
the case of Alex Theatrviso that I mentioned earlier in the show notes so that you can listen
