Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, everybody. Welcome back to your favorite podcast, sex love, and what else matters? I have Luke here with me today. Hello, Kristen. Hello, honey. And we have no offense to the rest of my guest, but my favorite guest thus far. Wow. Josh Peck, welcome to the pod. Thank you for having me so honored to be here. Thank you for driving all the way to the valley to my humble little apartment. It's my happy place. I love the valley. That is true. So I'm going to start right away with the number one question. How the hell do we know each other? Oh my gosh, this is the best. People think like, I don't know, like you're so cool that like I don't deserve to be like friends with you or something. Stop it. In my circle, they can't believe I'm friends with
Starting point is 00:00:56 Christ. That's true. And we'll get into how I met, how I met your mother, how I met your wife. Yes. But I moved here in 2007 and you were like one of the first five people that I met your mother, how I met your wife. Yes. But I moved here in 2007 and you were like, one of the first five people that I met. That's amazing. Wild, right? So you want to tell the story? So my best friend's older brother is on my space. God bless.
Starting point is 00:01:16 Shout out to Gary. Shout out to Len. Shout out to Tom. Shout out Tom. You know? My space Tom, I miss it. I do too. And we're like these gutter rat valley kids, even though that I was like working on a
Starting point is 00:01:29 TV show and whatnot, like I grew up in a two bedroom apartment in North Hollywood. And we were, you know, typical 20 year olds, like basically just living by the seat of our pants, didn't go to college. My best friend, Len and his older brother, are running a refinance shop out of their two-bedroom apartment. I'm pretty sure they're completely to blame for the 2008 economic crisis. That's sick.
Starting point is 00:01:56 And I just remember that Gary was like, yeah, bra, I'm not this girl on my space, bra. Kristen. We did, it's true. I started looking up singles in Studio City, California. So there was a dating element to MySpace like that? Yeah, kind of. I knew just like three people.
Starting point is 00:02:17 So I remember being like, yeah, I could find people that were on MySpace in Studio City. And I lived in Tolalaik at the time. And then I saw his profile picture. I thought he was cute and then he asked me to go to, do you know where our first date was? No. Run in Canyon. Perfect.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Jesus Christ. Okay, keep going. And I remember he was like, yeah, brawn about this girl and he brings Kristen over and with all due respect, I'm like, what are you doing dating this smoke show? And how is she at your apartment, like where literally we like found the furniture in an alleyway? Like he had one of, they had one of the TVs that was built into a cabinet.
Starting point is 00:02:58 That was their first TV. Our boy Jaime, Rest in Peace, used to like sleep there and like he had sleep apnea. So he would snore so loudly. And Kristen would come out of Gary's room and be like, what the fuck is going on here? And we're like, Jaime needs his rest, that's what. And like Gary's room, shout out Gary,
Starting point is 00:03:22 I don't think he would mind me completely throwing him under the mask. No, he's mind me completely throwing him under the box. No, he's going to love all of this attention right now. It was a very standard two bedroom apartment and in Gary's room he had two desks, two white boards and it was called South Cow Financial. They were running this re-fi shop out of the apartment, but again, we were like these 20-year-old kids. So like everybody would wake up at 11 o'clock, Gary would wake up early.
Starting point is 00:03:53 He was responsible. But we would all wake up at 11 and then we would go eat like sushi at 12 and we thought we were like mad men in 2008 and everyone would get like drunk at lunch and then nap till four and then they'd be like, there was like some special time between four and six where everyone was getting home. Like it's it's rush hour rush hour. And like they'd bang phones for two hours trying to get someone who made $30,000 a year
Starting point is 00:04:19 to refi their home for two and a half million dollars. Right. And yeah, and so he was dating Kristen and we became friends and the rest is history. Yeah, oh my God, I forget, because I was, yeah, I was 24. Like I forget how young y'all were. And you were down the clown, you were part of the crew. Yeah, you were fun.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Yeah, I think so. Yeah, you were liking the lead-ass. It was super fun. No, I was a broke ass waitress at Sir, an aspiring model. And then I wanted to be, I think I've talked about this in the podcast, but when I moved here, I wanted to be in music business because I was a musician,
Starting point is 00:04:55 but I was like, I'm not gonna make it as like a band. I'm not gonna be a vocal performance major, seeing opera forever. And then I started, the music business whole thing. This was like the AOL and like Nokia days and like all of that. I had this mentor who was like, you're gonna read all these articles and do all this every single day and then I'll put my name on your resume.
Starting point is 00:05:15 And I hated it. So then I wanted to act because I did a lot of theater and musical theater and all of that growing up. And Josh, you introduced me to my first acting coach. Yeah. And I started taking class. And I'll never forget, like, I don't want to say it was my second week there.
Starting point is 00:05:35 And I was given these sides, which is like part of a script. So you're given, OK, I didn't know if you knew what that was. Sorry. So I was given these sides to play this, whatever this character was. And it wasn't, you know, this is like very early days of me, not grasping real acting. That's not just like theater, you know. And I was like, no, I've just refused.
Starting point is 00:05:57 I'm like, no, I don't know how to connect with this character. It just doesn't even make sense. And I think he was your coach at the time, right? Or at least least I don't know, you'd introduce his name as Greg. And he made me sit outside on the curb and go last in class. And I started crying and I was like embarrassed and I was frustrated. And that's exactly why he made me sit outside and go last. And he was like, see all the feelings you're feeling? Fucking use it. And it was like to this day, it's like one of my greatest memories
Starting point is 00:06:25 of like killing that scene in that class. It was very cool. But yeah, then I was a waitress at Sir and became a fucking reality personality, so there's that. Well, I remember Gary bringing up Sir, and he's like, yeah, bro, she works at some like restaurant in West Hollywood. And again, we were sort of, we lived 20 minutes from West Hollywood in that scene,
Starting point is 00:06:46 but we were sort of insulated from it. And so, I mean, obviously the show wasn't on yet, but sir had a reputation and people went and it was cool. And I just remember him being like, yeah, bro, she works at this restaurant. They have good Palma Doro, love the girl, whatever. And yeah, and but to your credit,
Starting point is 00:07:07 you were like down the clown, you were fun, you wanted to be part of the crew, you wanted to be with the boys. Yeah, because that's just some like Midwestern normal person, and it was just so cool to meet people that weren't, you know, what I didn't visioned, like I was so scared of like Hollywood. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Because my girlfriend that I moved here to live with for a bit, she was an actress, she did a lot of film in like soap operas. And I had been around for so many years visiting her that I saw the Hollywood era and the scene and the people. Actually, I think I told you this the other night, but Hillary and Haley Duff at the time lived in Tlucleic. Yeah. And I had like been to their house before I moved to LA, and I felt so fucking cool. Oh, yeah. I'm like, oh, this mansion with a pool,
Starting point is 00:07:57 like on a lake, and it's like Haley Duff, like I don't belong here, so rad. But it was very fun to like meet people like you guys that I just felt like I didn't belong here, so rad. But it was very fun to meet people like you guys that I just felt like I didn't have to impress. I wasn't scared. And then you became a big deal. Well, you were a big deal before that, but I was way too old for Josh and Drake.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Yeah, I mean, I don't, I, hopefully I never walked around with that air that, never, that there was an air at all to begin with, but yeah, I just remember and then and then you left Gary for Tom Sound of all. Oh my god, you broke his heart. Oh god. And then you kind of went back to Gary for a little, and then went back to Tom. Yeah. You got about straddling it a little bit. Oh yeah. I was, yeah, I was juggling the two at once. And then how about that? You're that Gary? Ouch, right? That hurts.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Yeah. And the way that I got called out on it one day, I was working at Sir. And this is great. Yeah. And Gary picked me up from work, I think. One of them picked me up from work. And they had just left the Belmont,
Starting point is 00:09:04 which is a bar in a bar restaurant in West Hollywood that we love. That was great. I dated a waitress at the Belmont. And they were at the Belmont together because Tom called JJ My Old Room Aid. And I'd carry it just like was taking me to landmark for him. Oh my God. It's all coming out, dude. Yeah. The cultist. Yeah, there's a chapter in my God. It's all coming out, dude. Yeah. The cult is, yeah, there's a chapter in my book.
Starting point is 00:09:27 You guys, he's making you crazy available on Amazon. But there's a chapter in my book called The Cult. And so any who Tom like tricks my roommate into giving him Gary's number, because he's like, well, I'm just really curious about this thing she's been going to for the weekend and blah, blah, blah. And it was really so they could like exchange war stories and so they went to the ball want together and they're like you're dating Or I'm dating are you sleeping with her? I'm sleeping with her. Do you think they ordered apps?
Starting point is 00:09:55 Probably like wings or something nice. Yeah, like wings in a brew. Yeah Yeah, there's something like potato skins when you're hearing about another dude slamming your girlfriend Yeah, there's something like potato skins when you're hearing about another dude slamming your girlfriend Yeah, so that ended exactly how you think it would I Essentially lost both of them for like five seconds and then got Tom back I'm gonna get a little later Skandoval of it all okay, so since we're talking about Tom's and a ball, I didn't ask me anything for you, which we'll get into some of the other questions later.
Starting point is 00:10:28 But how do you feel about the scandal ball? Well, can I redirect and ask you? Sure. And maybe you've been asked this non-stop, maybe not a lot. Do you feel like so vindicated? I don't because Ariana is so hurt. So it's like, nobody's winning here.
Starting point is 00:10:46 You know, I never thought he'd do this to her. Like to me, fine. We were young, we were dumb, we were broke, we cheated on each other. Yeah, it was so long ago, but like to Ariana, like your partner of 10 years, you stupid son of a bitch. So no, I mean, I guess to like, yeah, my middle finger to bravo and to everyone who thought I was fucking nuts. And why could you write a book giving dating advice? Rrr, rrr, rrr, rrr, well, it's not a book about dating advice. It's about red flags and what not to do. Yeah, the guy's not to date.
Starting point is 00:11:19 You write. Like literally, my book is not about all men. It's about those men. And so in that way, yes, I feel vindicated. Yeah. Just like I was in a liar. My Emmy girl, that was a real thing. So what are your thoughts? Is he in hiding? So what we just the the the rumors? Yeah, give us the update. The rumors on the internet and the rumors. I feel like you're like who's the one who covers on the murder or some Fox News Nancy oh what's her name oh I'm dying she's a blonde lady
Starting point is 00:11:53 she's like oh my god I just found him at a at a truck stop in Alabama like she's so good I can't believe we're blanking on her. I can picture you know she is the best She's like prosecutors right now are putting their case together Nancy Grace. I think it's Nancy Grace. Okay. Yeah, it's Nancy Grace If I think if I have a daughter I'm naming her Nancy Grace. There she is look at her Gorgeous page a blue font. I wanna be friends with Nancy Grace. You have Max Milo.
Starting point is 00:12:28 You have Shy Miller and now you want Nancy Grace. How great would that be? Nancy Grace Peck? She should be the next like. Maybe get a dog. Supreme Court justice. Yeah, I can see that. Maybe get a dog named Nancy Grace.
Starting point is 00:12:40 That's a good dog name too. I can see that. That's cute, Nancy Grace. I want a dog named John Melkovich so badly. Yeah maybe I named the name we get a pack of dogs. I don't know if people are gonna take this the wrong way and we name them all like popular like TV host like this is my dog Joy Bayhart. This is tough at Carlson. It's got an asshole. Yeah exactly. Oh my god I can't. Okay wait so do you have opinions on the scum deval of it all? Scum deval.
Starting point is 00:13:08 I think it's cheating ain't for me. Yep, truth. And I don't know how, I don't know how to show. It's seven month of fair, not even just a fuck up. Like I'm the ex queen of just mistakes, like fuck ups. But a seven month of affair with that person, with Rachel, come on. You just gotta like commit to the lies, you know? I don't know, I can't, I don't wanna spend any time in his head,
Starting point is 00:13:38 but I feel like committing that long to those lies, it's a lot. It's a lot, and I think you make a great point. I, and I've said this before, and I know that all my in-laws are gonna be listening to this, and especially my sister-in-law Taylor, who I literally think that if I dared to cheat on my wife, which I would never do, my sister-in-law Taylor, who's my height,
Starting point is 00:14:02 she would argue a little taller, high-taillor, she would beat the shit out of me. She and I both. She would beat, she would win me over in her brand new Tesla. Congratulations. Hope you're enjoying it, Taylor. She just got the windows tinted and she's very proud of that.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Not sure what she's hiding. Taylor, come clean. But I first and foremost, I don't cheat because of me. Yeah. Because I'm not willing to sacrifice my peace of mind. Yeah. Like we are all witnesses to our own bad behavior. And it depends on how loud that voice is for you. Now, I'm a sober guy for years. I was messing around and acting a fool and being a total cliche. And during that time, that voice was always there. And in the back of my mind, that voice that tells you to like, call your mom back.
Starting point is 00:14:53 And like, your grandparents would be ashamed of you for doing that. And all those, you know, that little voice that's there. Did you read my diary? You get it. Like your ancestors are ashamed of you. But that voice for many years was very low, because I was in the grips of... Well, it's easy to shut it up, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:13 Just to go. Ignore, ignore, ignore. When you're not mature enough, emotionally intelligent enough, to want to be better, to... Like you just said, live a more peaceful life. Well, at the end of the day, you have to, to, like, you just say, like, live a more peaceful life. Well, you know, at the end of the day, you have to, the one person you have to live with
Starting point is 00:15:29 for your whole life is yourself, you know, so it's like, like, lay your, rest your head on your pillow at night, being like, even if you had a bad day, it's like, but I, I was a good person today and look at yourself in the fucking mirror every morning. It is wild. Yeah, I just think we're all, we are witnesses to our own bad behavior. So it's not about karma or all these things. I mean, I'm sure that plays a part in it. But more so, I'm just not willing to sacrifice my own peace
Starting point is 00:15:57 of mind with actions and things that I know are out of character for me. And so I don't want to look over my shoulder and I don't want to be worried about keeping lies together and all of the things that come with that level of dishonesty. So in addition to like never wanting to let down or hurt like my wife, my family, my kids,
Starting point is 00:16:19 and my in-laws who like, I respect to the highest degree, but like I just am not willing to walk around with that. I am literally too neurotic and paranoid and anxious to deal with that level of dishonesty. That's such an interesting fucking perspective because I feel that like in my fucking soul. Like after so many years of therapy, it really is like, and not that it's not about you Luke,
Starting point is 00:16:44 but it's like, I would never cheat on you because I just wouldn't be with you. Like, what would be the point? Why would I want to hurt you? And I would not be able to lie and cover up lie and like live with myself every day? Because it would affect every piece of my life. It would affect my career.
Starting point is 00:17:01 I feel like I would be a shitty dog mom. I would be just, like, I would just be a shitty overall mom. I would be just like I would just be a shitty overall person because that would just be like a horrible ripple effect. Yes. On my own psyche. Do you guys think I'm interested to hear your opinion? Also that Jerry Seinfeld has this great quote which is find the torture that you're comfortable with and it's the key to a good life. That torture is not eating all the food that we want to eat every day and going's the key to a good life. That torture is not eating all the food that we want to eat every day and going to the gym and working at something your passion
Starting point is 00:17:31 or the thing that you want to work at and it's being married in kids which is incredibly rewarding and challenging and forces you to grow. And I think whenever I've had friends of mine who've cheated or gone outside the relationship, it's so self-serving. They just seem like they're obsessed with like, to me, I'm like, life isn't supposed to be
Starting point is 00:17:57 and granted, there's nuance to all of this, maybe. My wife would argue, there's no nuance. And that's fair too but I just think it's like it's just not all about like just getting laid right I think it that's because that's just such a it's like a quick pleasure like it's over it's done and then regret yes like what why was that worth it in that moment like it wasn't. Short-term gain, long-term pain. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:26 And then you get that. Well, that's a thing. Luke loves to get about a four-two. A nice little analogy. But this was like, aren't they dating now? Or essentially, this Tom Rachel? Oh, Tom? Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:18:39 So Tom, so the T with the T online and then within our, we have a group chat that Ariana is not in but it's like her support group chat is that Tom Sandivall happens to be in Tucson, Arizona and guess whose parents live in Arizona? Rachel So and they film the fucking reunion this week. Like, what? Was he a part of it? Or you don't know it? The reunion? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:08 He's, of course, he's going to be on it. OK, that's what I thought. Yeah. I don't know if she, I don't know the whole thing with her in China, the temporary restraining order. It's just such fucking garbage. If I had a way in deco with Mike, I'd be in guidance. Rick L. is going to make it a big thing.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Like, on Zoom or something. Have you ever been on watch what happens live? No. You need to be. I feel like I tried to be for my book and they passed. I know. I'm gonna do something about that. I was like, will you be a bartender?
Starting point is 00:19:35 I'm like, I'll literally be a sober bartender. Bortender, you need to be like the main guest. I'll be a bartender. I mean, as long as I don't have to try to drink. You're iconic. For the love of God. I feel like, I feel like, I feel like they'd want your take like Jerry O'Connell on there. You know, as long as I don't have to try I can't drink. You're iconic. For the love of God. I feel like, I feel like they'd want your take like Jerry O'Connell on there.
Starting point is 00:19:48 You know, if they've christened with her, if you went with christen, you know, I'd kill it, I'd kill it. Yeah, it'd be awesome. Thanks, dude. Hey, I got a question. I want to segue way back to this whole Taylor Killie in-law thing.
Starting point is 00:19:59 I knew you were going to ask this. Go ahead. So your father-in-law, Ken O'Brien, former XNFL quarterback. Yes. There ever a time where you were like intimidated, terrified of the man. He's, if it has a very intimidating stature. Yeah, physically. Physically, yeah. I just met him for the first time. Yeah, he could beat the shit out of me. He could step on you. He's 61. Damn. You didn't think that did you?
Starting point is 00:20:22 No. He doesn't die his hair either. He looks so good. Tell me. He is a massive human being. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'll tell you the story of when I proposed to page. Okay. Okay. So you guys have been together 12 years now since you started dating. Just about, yeah, Halloween. It was 12 years. It was 20, which is wild. She was 20. I was 24. Yeah. So we, we had dated for about five years and, okay, I'm going to turn this into a long story, but there's like some fun moments. So I decide that I want to propose to page. It's like 2015 and I call my big brother who I've had like a big brother from the big
Starting point is 00:21:01 brother foundations since I was eight. And we have like a marquee have a marquee storybook relationship. He was the best man at my wedding almost 30 years later, wearing each other's lives. And he's got this thick Boston accent. And I said, I want to propose to Paige. I want to get a ring like any suggestions. He's like, Josh, man. He's like, call your mother right now and tell her
Starting point is 00:21:26 to help you with this. He's like, she's going to thank you forever. He's like, because once you, you know, propose, it's going to be about your wife and her mother, but your mother's going to love you forever for doing this. I go, okay. So I call my mom. I'm like, I want to propose to page. She obviously already loves page.
Starting point is 00:21:44 I'm like, do want to propose to page. She obviously already loves page. I might do you have any suggestions. She's like, send me over the dimensions. And I go, okay. And so literally an hour later, like I tell her the cut and like what I'm thinking. Wait, how did you know to page tell you what she wanted? At this time in 2015, to great question, the oval diamond was popular. Yes. And Blake Lively had this beautiful oval ring. No, I didn't realize. Blake Lively's fucking ring.
Starting point is 00:22:15 It's like 18,000 carrots. So literally, if it was in the shape of an arm, it would look cute, right? So I tell my mom, oval and carrots, and what the band I wanted it to be like, and she goes, in our later I get a call from my mom, she goes, there's a rendering in your email. So I open the email, and it's beautiful ring,
Starting point is 00:22:44 and my mom's like getting it hooked up by her guy in Jersey. So you know it's good. And then I'm about to order the ring and I'm talking to my friend Pageant Brewster who's a great actress who played my mom on the show Grandfather that we did together. And I show her the ring, she's like, oh it's beautiful, but you know, oval at that time was sort of, it wasn't classic by any means. It was more trendy. It's trendy, yeah. And she said to me, she's like, did she say that she really wants this kind of ring?
Starting point is 00:23:11 And I said, no, but she's mentioned that she likes this ring and this kind of shape of a diamond and she goes, I wouldn't make sure, because if she hates it, she'll never tell you, but she'll hate it forever. That's so cool. That's good advice. And it was great advice.
Starting point is 00:23:31 So I went with, I knew she liked, you know, like a cushion cut classic, like she was cool with that. So I haven't made, comes like a month or two later. And then I just came to kind of sat on it, which is my way, because I just didn't know the perfect time. Yeah. So I remember we were going to Paris for... So from the time you actually get the ring how long until three or four months maybe?
Starting point is 00:23:53 A while. Did you freak out having to hide it whole that make sure you didn't lose it? Is it in the right spot? It was in my mom's safe. In her apartment. Okay. So I'm going to Paris and I'm just gonna shout out
Starting point is 00:24:06 all of my wife's family members because I'm sure they're listening. They're the best. They love you guys. We're obsessed. Shout out on Jenny, her aunt, who was like, I feel like she was like the one in the family who when we would come over for family,
Starting point is 00:24:20 you know, holidays and stuff, she'd be like, what are you waiting for? So like there's always one auntie who's like, come on already, stop it. So I knew we were going to Paris, I was working there for Paris Fashion Week and I was like, I'd really like to do it. I imagine that she's expecting something. She said she wasn't, but I imagine people were like, oh, you're going to Paris. It's pretty romantic.
Starting point is 00:24:45 I feel so hurt. Sidiabuff. So I'm like, I gotta do it. And if I don't do it there, I just imagine that she would be like this fucking guy, you know? Yeah, like it's never happening now. Yeah, totally. So we're going to Paris and it's the day before and I'm like, I got to ask her dad for permission. Oh, so you haven't, you have not asked Ken yet.
Starting point is 00:25:09 No. Oh shit. So we get back to Ken and the intimidation factors. So at this time, I show up at the house and it's a busy house because, you know, there's four siblings. Someone's always living at the house like temporarily. There's always people there. And I pull up to the house, and I remember Ken literally walks out of the garage, and he goes, Josh, you don't where everyone is?
Starting point is 00:25:34 It's like, I'm all alone, the house is completely empty. Oh my God. And I just look up and I'm like, good work, God. Yeah. Yeah, seriously. You're like, no, it's the time. Fuck, I'm gonna shit my pants. And I know that once I ask him,
Starting point is 00:25:48 like right now I have a ring, right? But like once I ask him, I'm in. It's the same as asking her. Yeah, there's no backing out. So I was like, hey, Ken, I wanted to ask you something and he's like, yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, yeah, no, he's a normal voice. We're like in the garage, we're like starting to buy tools. It's so masculine,
Starting point is 00:26:09 so pro-e, wrenches and whatnot. Man, shaving it. Yeah, like a second for it, like a meat fridge. And I'm like, you know, I wanted to ask your permission to Mary Page and he goes, oh, oh, and he goes, well, you know what, if you love her and she loves you, then yeah, I think that's great. Yeah, my permission.
Starting point is 00:26:35 And kind of a moment passes and I go, bet. Oh. I was like, how are you? And he's like, I don't think I can do small talk with you right now. And I was like, okay, got it, got it, got it. Um, we're like, it's pretty sunny out for Manhattan Beach. Woo. So we were, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:58 And the next day before we went to Paris, because I knew I wasn't going to try to smuggle it through TSA. I'm like, right. And then wait, so really quick. So before Paris did everyone all snow as I it through TSA. I'm like, right. And then wait, so really quick, so before Paris did everyone else know, as I just threw my pencil, I'm so excited. I'm like, did Stacy know her mom did like her siblings? Did everyone know her mom?
Starting point is 00:27:14 Her mom knew because Ken told her mom the next morning, and then she called my mom. Okay. And so that was really sweet. But I don't think the siblings knew. Which is probably better because the girls have big mouths. I love you guys so much, but they do. They love to chat.
Starting point is 00:27:35 And so yeah, I proposed the next day and in the morning, right before we left, and so we just got to go have this amazing sort of trip and be engaged and it was pretty perfect. So I was terrified of her dad in that moment, but I mean, again, I don't want to just... When you started dating or were you ever intimidated by him, or did you always just click, okay, it was cool? No, yeah, I really respected him.
Starting point is 00:28:02 And I feel like, because he's not hacky in the sense of, as a comedian person, what I hate is typical, right? That dad who's schmucky and makes like stupid jokes and is unnecessarily intimidating, he's a true alpha and I think alphas get a bad rap. I actually think the men who really suck are like beta Beta males shout out think we know a couple
Starting point is 00:28:31 Want to be alphas, yeah, right? Who's the main man in the group? Number one guy in the group. Number one guy in the group. That's right. Ariana now. Right. Ariana's a true alpha. Yeah, but like I think real alphas lead quietly. Great point. And I would say that about her dad. So he always made me feel like confident. And even when there would be family members,
Starting point is 00:28:54 because yeah, I mean, it's a family, even the extended family, it's all athletes, it's all like. And he would never make me feel less than even if like, an uncle was kind of ribbing me. He'd be like, well, what do you, you know, who are you? Yeah, like, and who are you to talk on goals? So, and so, like, I've seen you though, too.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Totally. So, it's all good. I love that. Maybe coming to Kid Actor, the circumstances that led to it were so specific that it was as though there was no other option for me. Yeah, you were a comedian. I mean, you loved comedy. You wanted to do like stand up and you wanted like you just had all the energy. Like that's just who you are. You're a performer. You're
Starting point is 00:29:36 an entertainer. Yes. You know, I mean, shy's a baby. Max is four, right? Going in five. So obviously, that's not where they're at yet in life. But yeah, let's say, I don't know, five to 10 years from now, and they're watching Dad do his thing and they're understanding it more. Would you be supportive of that? Would you want them to like wait a bit still? I would say two things.
Starting point is 00:29:59 The first was that as a kid, I was like overweight and I had this comedic, you know, I was like the theater kid. And so my mom being a good parent was like, I'm going to support this because if it were little league or anything else that gave him confidence, I would support that typical kid things. Just so happens to be this thing. And she kind of poured jet fuel on it because she always wanted it for herself, but she was really supportive, but also like she was a single mom. I never knew my dad and I was the only child.
Starting point is 00:30:31 So when I got offered a TV show at 13 and to move 3,000 miles from New York where I grew up where our whole life was, it was possible. My sons like, they don't have that. They have a really stable home. Right. They have like really stable home. Right. They have like a whole life here in LA,
Starting point is 00:30:48 like they don't have the financial insecurity that I grew up with. So the idea of uprooting everyone to go to, you know, if you got, they got a TV show in Toronto, like that's much less realistic. So I would say the circumstance aren't the same. And then for me, I would tell my kids, have fun, do it for fun,
Starting point is 00:31:09 and I would support them to go to acting class and do all the things that they love. As long as they enjoy it. But I also think that the difference between starting at 13 and 18 is only five years. But the public perception is massive. That's true. Because if you start at 13,
Starting point is 00:31:25 you're in quotes a kid actor, which infers freak, which infers like, oh no, what's going to happen to this person? Are they going to fall off? You know, just all the child actors, we knew growing up, like the quarries and like all of that,
Starting point is 00:31:42 you know, it's like, Yes. Either they're going gonna continue to make it or they're just gonna be complete failures. Like there was no really in between. Totally, or they could wait five years and it really will have no impact other than they won't have to fight
Starting point is 00:31:55 that whole public perception because it'll just be seen as adults. Yeah, that's a fucking good point, interesting. I feel like, because like as I was with your children, the other night, having dinner and my ovaries were just like on fire. Sure that. Oh, he knows. I started my period today and I said it with a sad face. And normally, I'm like, oh, thank God. And now I'm like, no, it didn't work. Are you guys trying? And how long have you guys been together?
Starting point is 00:32:25 That's a, we're not sure. Luke, we don't have like a... We don't have a date necessarily. We started dating, but it was early June when we, we're not wedding together and hooked up and we talked basically every day from then on. Yeah. But it like probably like October. They're probably around Halloween. But it's like he lives in Colorado and then he comes and stays in LA for like a month or three weeks or whatever and then he goes back to Colorado
Starting point is 00:32:50 or we're Indiana and then. Couple weeks here, a couple weeks there. Yeah. How well did you guys know each other before you hooked up in tune? Or did you meet in tune? We did. You met at the wedding?
Starting point is 00:33:00 We met one time before that through the same friends that got married and then we stood up in the wedding together and they paired us. Oh, and you guys, and I just got broken up with a week before that. Right. So I was, yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Week to week something. Something like, I think it was like a week, yeah. I don't know. Whatever. But essentially, the writing group at that moment were like, Luke, you could hook up with this girl, this girl, or this girl. And then I became single and then they were like,
Starting point is 00:33:27 oh, you could get Kristen's single. Yeah, they both were like, here's the single girl. You're also here, the single bridesmaids. Yeah. We got a wedding night, you guys hooked up, or are we talking for Herschel dinner? No, we Herschel dinner she was still distracted with her phone and ex and stuff.
Starting point is 00:33:41 And then what your friends took your phone and- Yeah, Jill Kimmel, I don't know if you do know Jill Kimmel, Jimmy's sister, she's a comedian. So she was at the wedding. So her and another friend of mine took my phone and they were just like, we're taking your phone, you're not gonna know who has it,
Starting point is 00:33:58 but you don't really need it. And I was like, you know what, you're actually right. Like if my, if there's some emergency back home, my mom knows how to get ahold of the friends that I'm with. There's no reason I need to be freaking out over the STEM X anymore. So for the rest of the weekend, I just didn't have my phone. And so I was no longer distracted.
Starting point is 00:34:16 And then at the wedding, I don't know, I was drunk, we took a little bit of mushrooms, and then we had sex behind a tent. No, while the wedding was going on. Yeah, I was in my talks. She was in a dress. Yeah. So you guys used protection.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Clearly. Yeah, obviously not. Yeah. And then that was, yeah, then I don't know, it was awesome. And then it was mostly just the conversation that we sat on the phone every day for like five to six hours. I'd be up til 3 a.m. sometimes and on Eastern, you know, in the Eastern time you're like, it's getting kind of late here and you're like, holy shit, it's 3 a.m. where you are.
Starting point is 00:34:52 I'm like, yeah, well, and he's a young man, he's only 31. Oh, yeah. I can't see that for you. I can't see that for you. He's mature. I get that. He's a lot more mature than the guys I was on a TV show with or any of the guys I've ever dated. And their old is dirt. Oh, it was on a TV show with or any of the guys I've ever dated.
Starting point is 00:35:05 And their old is Jert. Oh, it's such a turn on when you can really talk to someone that you're into and you can't be with each other physically. And you can just talk and text and you can dance around the fact and then get away from the fact and then jump right into the fact like that attraction I mean that's like the good stuff in life I was thinking back like because I didn't meet Paige right away But I was thinking back as long as I've known you I don't remember you ever dating anyone else
Starting point is 00:35:38 Did you have any girlfriends like when I knew you before Paige? I did but it was, it was pretty casual. I never brought them around. Yeah. I like literally thought back through all my memories and I was like, I don't recall seeing you with a girl ever. There was maybe like two girls in total that I dated before page that I would like say I, in quotes, dated, but I never brought them around. stated, but I never brought them around.
Starting point is 00:36:05 My mom, I never brought them around. My friends, there was one girl who I dated who I remember. I invited all my friends over to watch like a boxing match, like a pay-per-view boxing match and growing up the way we did. Like if you were shelling out the 60 bucks for boxing, like you had 30 people in your house. Yeah. I'm going to pay. I'm like, you have to see all bios coming over. Yeah, exactly. So yeah, I remember and I invited her to that and like, my boy, Len was like, wow, so that's her, huh?
Starting point is 00:36:34 Like, wow, I've been hearing about it for, you know, a couple of months. But yeah, I remember Paige and I met on Halloween and then I was actually funny enough going to- Where did you guys meet? I actually don't even even know we met at a Halloween party in the valley Just so randomly. Why was she in the valley? I know it makes no sense because she's like a beach kid. Yeah her best friend's boyfriend had a notoriously famous Halloween party every year. Okay, because he was from the valley Okay, and they had this big house and so we had gone a few years before that,
Starting point is 00:37:07 and she went because of her best friend. I just remember us looking at each other throughout the party, throughout the night. She says we didn't look at each other at all. That's not true. And- Calling you out, Paige. Shout out her friend, Aani, who kind of like
Starting point is 00:37:22 set up the handoff, because she walked up to me and started a conversation and I was like, so nice to meet you, who's your friend. Yeah. And I think she kind of knew that we were, I don't know, connecting. It was Sarah and Duffinus. It was really meant to be. And again, it sounds cooler than I am,
Starting point is 00:37:38 but I was headed to make this movie in France for three weeks in the next day. Oh, it's a 3D dance movie with Chris Brown called Battle of the Year. I don't mean to brag, but I'm a working actor. And with people like Chris Brown, um, no, we watched the wax. We did watch the wax. It's a couple days. I was like, this is what I told you the other night. It's one of my favorite movies ever of all time. Thanks. I don't, and it's not just because I knew you when you shot that movie, but I'm like,
Starting point is 00:38:08 Sir Ben Kingsley. The man, my favorite actor. Yeah, are you kidding me? Like, what a great cast, what a great movie, what a great role. And you came to the premiere, like the premiere party. I remember you were in a blue dress over the dress.
Starting point is 00:38:21 Oh God. Wow, memories. Not to be confused with the green dress, guys. Oh, is that a famous green dress? The famous green dress from Vanderpump when I went over to Tom's to get my DVR box back. VPR. Pretty. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:36 But anyway. But yes, so we watched the whackness and I was like, Luke, you have to write when we got back from the dinner and I'm like, you're going to love this movie. That's when we watched it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I thought that your little car was so funny. It's like, that's not a cover up at all. Yeah, Luke Shapiro. Luke Shapiro.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Classic. Such a movie. It's a great movie. And I actually wrote this down because right before we started this podcast, what did you ask him, you were like, how's it going or like, what are you working on right now or something like that? You said something about what are you ask him? You were like, how's it going? Or like, what are you working on right now or something like that? You said something about what are you working on? You're saying busy, you're working on. You're saying busy, that's what you said.
Starting point is 00:39:10 And in your book, one of my favorite things is, you wrote, what have you been up to is kryptonite for an actor? Yes. Oh, OK. Now I know. If you have, because in those law moments, totally. And I even feel the way. I'm like, because in those low moments, totally.
Starting point is 00:39:25 And I even feel that way. I'm like, oh, well, I wrote this book a few years ago and I'm getting ready to start a project. So if you're not just like, which you are obviously working all the fucking time. But in the low moments of your career, when you had a downtime where you were auditioning or whatever it was, it's like, how the fuck do you
Starting point is 00:39:44 answer that question? You're like, I'm raising kids. That's what I'm doing, guys. And the truth is, most people probably aren't, you know, not only 10 people, especially if they care about you, they're not doing that thing where they're, you know, the fear was always, oh no,
Starting point is 00:40:00 I hope they're not thinking of me. It's just like yet another out of work actor, right? Which for most journeyman actors, this business is a reality. It's, make hay when the sun shining. I forget what it's called. But like, there's, it's seasonal almost, right? You'll have a moment and friends and I've talked about it
Starting point is 00:40:20 where it's like, wow, like three or six months, or even a year where you're like, this is, if only every year was like this. And then it's like, wow, like three or six months or even a year where you're like, this is, if only every year was like this. And then it's like, oh no, now like get ready for the winter because it could be six months, it could be a year. And it could have nothing more to do with that. It's just not right. You're not right in that moment. So yeah, luckily I've much more, you know, I went over two years without working and I remember getting that question and it would elicit so much feelings where people like you
Starting point is 00:40:49 were probably just asking that because people ask everyone that. Yeah, exactly. I was gonna say that's like a casual see a friend from the Midwest, I'm like, Hey man, how you doing? You stay in busy? Totally.
Starting point is 00:40:59 Like that's just what you say. Yeah. But I don't mean nothing behind it, you know, it's just like, yeah, you don't know. It's what I want to do. Yeah, exactly. It's the things that we connect to that that question. And so luckily now I like can point to things that I'm working on and I feel like much more secure in that way. But surely I went through times where like I felt totally leveled by that question.
Starting point is 00:41:19 Because again, like you said, you don't know, you don't know what to bring up. Right. Yeah. Plus you guys have NDAs and stuff. So stuff you can't talk about, right? And when you do, you do certain shows. Yeah, yeah. That reality NDA.
Starting point is 00:41:32 No more, right? No more. That's right, we're free. Hey, we are free. And I like it. I can't believe it. So I got a question for you regarding work. What's your favorite role you've ever played in a movie?
Starting point is 00:41:44 Oh, wow. I mean, I'm proud of the whackness and playing Luke Shapiro. At that time I'm playing in New York sort of drug using hip-hop head. Yeah. During that time it's so your vibe. 1994, the greatest time for hip-hop ever, like, Illmatic, Ready to Die, and two-p I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm And we made 12 episodes of it and we were my wife and my son Max and I were up in Vancouver for almost a year and now being like in my 30s and it's not just about the project, it's about you know because inevitably like you hope the movie or the show you're doing does well but you spend eight months of your life making it whether it does well or not right so it's important that that doesn't suck, and that you enjoy your time, you like the people you're working with.
Starting point is 00:42:47 And I loved the people that I worked with for that year, and I was so proud of the thing that we made. And so yeah, I would funny enough, and it wasn't necessarily the flashy escape I've ever had, but playing the part I did on Turner and Hooch was what I was pretty proud of. That's all right. I had to watch that. Oh yeah, it's so.
Starting point is 00:43:08 It's sweet. I remember when you were on it and I was texting with you and we were talking what the dogs. Because it was two different dogs, right? It was five. Five dogs. And then there was like a robo dog. Yes. And then there was like a puppet dog that was controlled by three different people,
Starting point is 00:43:28 three different puppeteers with radio controls. One guy had his hand in the mouth, it was crazy. Yeah, and speaking of that, one of the ask me anything questions came from Becca Tobin. Does he miss me? Becca? Yeah, she said, she missed me. Terribly. Your friends with Becky. I am. Yeah. And she moved to Austin. I'm wild for her.
Starting point is 00:43:47 And has a baby now. I know. She's killing it. She's the best. You'll meet her one day. She's fantastic. Let's go to Texas. I love Texas.
Starting point is 00:43:55 Yeah. It's amazing. That show was six Becca Toements. It was like six gems of people who I just loved. I'm still friends with. And as you know, like you don't get to pick your cast. I'm going to be a little bit more careful. I'm going to be a little bit more careful. I'm going to be a little bit more careful. I'm going to be a little bit more careful. I like six gems of people who I just loved. I'm still friends with.
Starting point is 00:44:07 And as you know, like you don't get to pick your castmates. I mean, it's rare that you love them. And so that is why I feel so warmly about that time. And like what a cool project to like remake a Tom Hanks talking classic. And the critics thought I did a great, no didn't really no no they just was it's Imposs I mean we're talking legend status so they're like yeah But his shoes is in pot that they weren't terribly mean they were just like yeah he's a nice kid
Starting point is 00:44:37 He's not Tom Hanks and I'm like duh yeah, I was like who is but they would say they would say that about Colin Hanks You know what I mean? Fair enough. So it doesn't even, you can't please. And we all know, I think everyone at this table said, Chad Hank's guy. Am I right, guys? Chad Hayes? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:51 Shout out. Shout out. I love it. Make an accent. Oh my gosh. Oh my god, I have so many, OK, so many, so many, so many questions. So I'm not going to talk to you about sex,
Starting point is 00:45:01 because it just would like weird me out, because it's you. So however, I'm asking you, I'm gonna only ask you one sex question. When you and Paige were trying to get pregnant, any of the times, was it romance or was it like, I'm ovulating, get in here, hold my legs up because, you know, I have many girlfriends who have now like almost two year olds. Right. So, they all were pregnant at the same time, and I've heard all of their stories
Starting point is 00:45:27 that it was literally like ovulation stick, happy face, get in here, make it happen, holding my legs up in the air. Were you guys like, that or was it just like, I mean, no, we just one day, we just found out we can see you've didn't it was so precious? It's so funny, yeah. Where my buddy, honest, make, honest pop is the great
Starting point is 00:45:47 comedians is like when, when women turn their bodies into a pinball machine because they're trying to like move, move, the spur to their ovaries. Okay, pages, sisters, and mom, turn the podcast off. You can turn it back on in five to eight minutes, or maybe, shorter, I don't know. Okay, to my wife's credit, I would say our sex life
Starting point is 00:46:12 is great because of her, because for me, I, big surprise, I'm a sober guy, so I like to overdo things, and she was the one who was like, this is a healthy amount of time to hook up and by not like overdoing it, like the times in which we do it will be great. And I-
Starting point is 00:46:31 Look, do you hear that? I know, it's fucking bullshit. I don't hear it. You know what I'm saying? It's like, let's do it. My headphones are working. It's technical issue here. Looks like, what were you?
Starting point is 00:46:40 If only you and I. He's like, and another world would be you and I together. Cause I've used to do do five times a day like I know yes we used to but we're all living life happens we're all living in the shadow most men I would say not to project or living in the shadow of what it was like in the first three months
Starting point is 00:46:56 for sure we're like can we just get back there just for a couple days yeah in Mexico or something let's go let's go somewhere you want to go vacation yeah of course. Let's go somewhere. I want to go vacation. Yeah, of course. Let's go to, you know, Pachanga. Let's just get wild. So yeah, so we've always had a healthy sort of relationship that way. You know, we were young and Paige was, yeah, I don't know. I think she was 27 or 28. We got married in June of 2017.
Starting point is 00:47:27 2017, yeah. Oh yeah, and then you had Max in 2018. Yeah. So it was like, we weren't even married a year. And so it must have been March. And I remember it was like the only time that we had ever said like, let's just see what happens. We had had friends who had had a hard time conceiving.
Starting point is 00:47:46 So we knew we wanted to have kids and we imagined, like even if it takes us like a year if we start now, like that's a pretty good timeline. Yeah. A mom flater. Wild. She was pregnant. And it just was like casual.
Starting point is 00:47:57 Oh, my little. Oh, my little. And, you know, it's just- As is her mom, because they have four kids. I shout out my mother-of-laws fertility. Yeah. And it's about the people together, right? Like you just kind of have to mix in that way.
Starting point is 00:48:12 And I remember we were doing Luke, you're looking at Kristen. That was more of me I want to know. Yeah, nothing to say. He's talking. Your face is so red, right? There's quite a look. The people are asking them they're representative. It's quite a look. People are asking, I'm their representative. It's going on there guys, same more.
Starting point is 00:48:29 Luke's young, I'm not. I'm like, I'm on a baby, right? Christmas is a baby yesterday, last month, last year. Yeah. Fair. Plus, I just love them. I think that's my purpose on this Earth is to be a mom, to be matured.
Starting point is 00:48:44 And just be motherly with all my friends. I'm the fixer, I'm the mom. I'll take care of everyone else before I take care of myself. So I quit smoking cigarettes a year ago, as you know I smoked for like 15, oh my God, 15 fucking years I smoked cigarettes. And when my doctor was like, well you got to quit about three months
Starting point is 00:49:03 before you want to start trying. I was like, done. Wow. I understand. I mean, I understand this reservation just because it's it's Yeah, and I understand where you're coming from. We were like, let's do it already. So I would imagine those two things combined that you guys if it happens, it'll be the perfect time. Yeah, and I've what I've heard from a lot of people is like don't stress about it and the more you stress it's like just stop thinking about it. Yeah stress also just have sex all the time and don't stress about it. I'm here for it. Looks very supportive of that. Well the more we have sex, the less stress you have right isn't that like go hand
Starting point is 00:49:38 and hand. That part, listen I mean Luke let's be honest. We're with some, we're with some lovely looking women, right? We will. Right? I'm saying. And so I've always thought like when people would, again, like I said before, I hate hacky bullshit. Like I hate when people make old jokes or like old colloquialisms and whatnot.
Starting point is 00:50:01 And so when people are like, yeah, you know it's hot and it's exciting for the first couple of years, but then man, time takes over, you know? And I'm like, yeah, I fucking hate me. I'm like, fuck that. People that say that. Yeah, I'm like, because you let it, you let it get. Right.
Starting point is 00:50:15 They're like, oh, marriage, it doesn't get any better. Trust me. I'm like, you're so miserable. Like, I'm so excited for the rest of my life. Like, that's what I think about when I turn 40, I'm like, fuck, I'm 40, everyone's up saying I'm 40. But then I'm also like, dude, I have so many more years left to live.
Starting point is 00:50:33 I'm so stoked to be with my one person forever and have a family. And once the kids are older, we'll go back to being in our 30s or whatever. Again, my sister's 46 46 with a 26 year old. So now my sister's like fully living her life again, you know? Yes. And so I hate when people say that shit about marriage.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Yeah, I just think that there are certain things you can do to sort of mitigate that you guys falling into those things. And I also like Tom Ford has this great quote about his husband who passed away, but he was waived for like 30 years. And like you also have to accept that like, there might not just be bad times,
Starting point is 00:51:13 there might be bad years. For sure. With the right person. And not that it's gonna be bad the whole way, but like if you guys are, you know, everyone's growing at their own speed, but hopefully you're just growing. We always like to ask, what do we are, you know, everyone's growing at their own speed, but hopefully you're just growing. We always like to ask, we don't, what do we say?
Starting point is 00:51:27 Not achieving, but like defining a successful relationship. Yeah, defining. Because it's not a destination, it's a journey. It's not like get there and be done. So that's something like curious for, you know, you're a married man. You up now have two babies like what's something you think that keeps you guys staying best friends and staying in love and keeping the romance and like all the stuff.
Starting point is 00:51:49 Like, if you were to give advice, you know, say. Yeah, something to sum it up in a couple of sentences. There's something to be said about not giving up, you know, in moments of frustration where like, obviously, certain things can't be, not everything can be firing at all times. And when you both accept that like right now, this isn't ideal. We're not operating at our highest level in this area, but we're not just going to like lay down about it. And there's work to be done. And it probably means there's like more communication necessary.
Starting point is 00:52:20 And there's a great saying in the recovery racket of, we will be amazed before we are halfway through. To me, that means that it doesn't usually take some gigantic, herculean effort. It's like bearing your ego, being willing to put more skin in the game to be vulnerable, to communicate fully, and then to try, at least to make small adjustments that your partner is asking of you I would imagine for both of you because I know for me like when you see even that sparkle of someone because like people don't change
Starting point is 00:52:53 Right, and so when you see your partner like making like the smallest effort to address something you've been feeling you're just like I've never loved you more exactly. You You just like, thank you so much. One million fucking percent. Yeah. Everything you just said, you just kept saying communication and communication. Like that is, I think what I'm especially learning in my relationship with Luke
Starting point is 00:53:16 is by far the healthiest relationship I've ever had, because we are both willing to communicate on those things. And as long as I don't make you make decisions, then you're willing to get it. I'm really bad at decision making. That's okay. There's like fundamental, but like I know my wife sometimes looks at me and he's like, this fucking asshole.
Starting point is 00:53:35 Like, Jesus. Like it's utterly like, she used to say when we were dating, she doesn't say anything much anymore, like you're annoying me. And I was like, oh really? And then of course all my issues would come up and be like, well maybe we should just call it quick. I was like, let's pull the rip cord then.
Starting point is 00:53:54 I'm so annoying. And the reality is, Hey, you're looking at me, because that sounds like me. I know, that's, yeah. She's like, didn't just leave me then. Yeah, we have the issues, Chris. We do. Yeah, you're the page. I'm the Josh, that's, she's like, didn't just leave me then. Yeah, we have the issues, Chris. We do.
Starting point is 00:54:05 Yeah, you're the page. I'm the Josh, that's for sure. Because people with healthy family systems and my wife taught me this was like, you're allowed to have a bad day. You're even allowed to go to bed mad. But family doesn't leave. And so where are we going?
Starting point is 00:54:20 So we're gonna figure this out now or maybe in a week from now. It's never that long. But when we do, I'm gonna be here to figure it out now or maybe in a week from now. Right. Never that long. Right. But, but when we do, I'm going to be here to figure it out with you. And that's huge. Whereas I was like, I guess I'm just going to perpetuate the bad behavior of my father, even though I never met him. Thanks, dad.
Starting point is 00:54:35 You're the same because I can't stand. I call him my sperm donor, but I mean, he's actually, I, I knew him for most of my life. Yeah. And then from like 18 on, we just have, I only talked to him of my grandma, like asks me to, but I didn't know until I was an adult what a shitty person he was. So now I'm just like, no,
Starting point is 00:54:55 and now I look at my mom so differently, and I used to think my mom was such a pain in the ass and like rules and this and that, whatever. And now as an adult, I can look back and go, she sacrificed everything To like raise children. It's just it's pretty fucking wild Okay, so now we just have a few fun questions some from the fans and Some from us and some from your family in law. Okay, so question from the fans
Starting point is 00:55:21 Have you watched Vanderpump rules and then my follow up to that is did paid your wife a force you to? Shout out my friend Adam this is his quote he's a producer on how I met your father and I love him. Your friend of his. He said Vanderpump rules as a show but the first few seasons is maybe some of the best TV that has ever been since the medium was created. But I definitely watch it with my wife, and the reason why we've all become such good friends is because one day she's watching the show completely enrapsured, and up into this point, obviously, I knew you were on it, but I didn't watch it. And I walk into our bedroom and I go, oh, it's Kristen. And my wife goes, what did you just say?
Starting point is 00:56:06 And I'm like, that's Gary's ex, Kristen. That's my friend. And she goes, text her right now. And you did. And I did. And then Kristen quickly said, I don't wanna be friends with you. I wanna be friends with your wife. Yes.
Starting point is 00:56:20 And that was it. And I was like, yeah, Paige and I would like, FaceTime. And then I would like go over there. This is when you guys still lived in West LA. And I became friends with her little sister. And yeah. Okay, so next question, who is your favorite sister in law and why?
Starting point is 00:56:35 Wow, that's huge. Can you guess who asked that question? Blake. Nope. Wow. Hey, interesting. They both are great. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, That's fantastic. Right now it's well, I would say Taylor is slightly it's so hard. I believe in it. They're both great.
Starting point is 00:56:53 They are both great. They you know what? It's so funny because like Taylor will be like hang out like she should be at her house a lot. She's working from home right now and so she'll be like helping with the kiddos and be like and I'll be at our house a lot. She's working from home right now. And so she'll be like helping with the kiddos and be like, and I'll be like Taylor, like there's no one like you. And then the weekend rolls around and Blake calls Saturday mornings like, would Max like to go out to breakfast with me and my boyfriend and we're gonna have a lovely breakfast with your son. I'm like, maybe you're the best.
Starting point is 00:57:21 So I sort of ask late back and forth, I'm really lucky. I really like my in-laws. It's for me. You have a grave like family in law. I agree. And Luke's one of four also. Huge. So I too have not quite in-laws, but I love all of them like his three siblings and his mom
Starting point is 00:57:40 and his dad and just like, oh, how lucky are we Josh? We're lucky. I'm lucky. Um, would you ever do reality TV in which show would you want to be on? Oh, that is such a good, I mean, I don't know where I'd fit in on Vanderpump. Like, what if I wouldn't work to serve for like, well, you've been when we've been filming and no one knows that. Oh, yeah. On Sassy's birthday party.
Starting point is 00:58:01 Yes. But when we were dressed like dead. And gay pride. And gay pride. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we owe, baby. 100%. But what show would you be on Jersey Shore?
Starting point is 00:58:11 Yes. I feel like you're Jersey Shore. I'm still a Thursdays or Thursdays. OK. OK. So now we're going to do a little quick game of fuck Mary Kill. Great. And we'll start with Jersey Shore.
Starting point is 00:58:24 Wow. Amazing. Angelina. Sn start with Jersey Shore. Wow, amazing. Angelina, Snooki, J. Wow. Snooki, it was nice knowing you. Wow, which is unfortunate, but yeah, and then I guess I would hook up with Angelina and Mary J. Wow. Really?
Starting point is 00:58:40 Yeah, even though J. Wow sometimes, she can throw you for a loop too, but she'd protect you, like she'd be a protective wife. Yeah, and she didn't do that rest or guy, so I feel like, you know, Okay, yeah, your turn. Yeah, I got one for you. This is submitted by my brother, actually, he's hilarious. So fuck Mary Kill, Wayne Campbell, Austin Powers and Shrek.
Starting point is 00:59:00 Who's Wayne Campbell? From Wayne's World. Oh, Wayne Campbell, all my all my myers character. So good. I guess I would yeah, I would sleep with Austin powers because I think you would have you tag him. Yeah, I would marry Shrek because that's a franchise movie Shrek's fucking loaded. That is a great yeah, and I would be a great sugar maybe. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:59:26 I'm in for the money, guys. So I'll be honest. I can't have the love. Yeah. So sorry, Wayne. Yeah, Wayne's got to go. Wayne's broke. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:34 Yeah, he's got some public hacks. OK, and last one. Fuck, very kill. Schwartz, sandable, Peter, sir manager. Wow. Peter reminds me of Gary. He totally done it. Sandemo's got a coat because he has to pay for his sins. Yes. I would say, yeah, I'm gonna.
Starting point is 00:59:53 Peter's kind of weird though. Shut up Peter. Right. He seems lovely though. I'm a friend I'm going to run into him in real life. He's not weird. He just, he has, he's had funny seasons. Can we say that? Yes. But he might be more stuff. I think I'm going to hook up with Shortcy and, and Mary Peter. And Mary Peter. I think, what do you think of that? I think you could marry Peter and, like, have an open relationship.
Starting point is 01:00:16 Yeah. Peter's solid. Peter's going to pay the bills. Yeah. Peter's no monogamy in your relationship with Peter. Peter's comes off the most grounded. Do you guys think open relationships work? I don't.
Starting point is 01:00:26 Hell no. Hell no. So I don't think so. Look fine with me looking up with a girl, but otherwise no. Oh, right. Yeah, well, because what we talked about this in the last podcast, there's bi-romantic and bisexual. Which is so interesting.
Starting point is 01:00:39 And Kristen is not bi-romantic. No, what is her mean? That means she would never relationship with a woman, but she finds a female body attractive. So she's sexually attracted to it, but as far as relationships go, what's a man means a man. I'm full on dudes.
Starting point is 01:00:54 Yeah. It's probably because I'm so tall and I don't know. I like the Luke's taller than me. I'm always like, I feel like such a little girl. Oh, that's great. I think I want to believe that I can handle my wife being with a girl. Hell, oh, okay. But I don't think I got it.
Starting point is 01:01:08 It's just not her five. I think I'd be jealous. Yeah. What if you got to join? That's what I'm saying. That's just hell. I'm telling you, I've tried three sums and it's, no. It's weird, right?
Starting point is 01:01:20 You're like tagging in. You don't have to focus on it. No, because if a girl ever, if he, I've had one before with a boyfriend and all of a sudden it was like truly an out-of-body experience. Like I stepped away from the bed and watched them have sex and it was the worst, one of the worst moments of like my life. Hell no. That's a hard hell no.
Starting point is 01:01:40 Okay. Okay, damn it. Last one. Let's see, she it last last last last question Shout out to meatloaf rest in peace. I would do anything for love, but I won't do what? That's a I don't know how to do people usually answer that like well You're the first person we've asked really yeah, I have my answer. I won't do bucokey face really. Yeah I have my answer I won't do bucackey face. What's bucackey face? Take a bunch of dudes. So I thought it was just a guy coming on your face and
Starting point is 01:02:10 Luke told me today it's when multiple people do so I'm like that's an easy easier hard now. But what guys ever gonna say hey I'm gonna have my friends come over. I don't know. You have to do to show you actually love me. Let us all. It's important I don't know so that's my answer. I would do anything for love, but I won't do buccacchi. Oh, Josh. Fascinating. So this is more like, it could be anything.
Starting point is 01:02:31 It doesn't have to be. Chris is just dirty. Yeah. What about buccacchi, turd jewel? Because just spin this around. You gotta answer the question. Yeah, exactly. I gotta know, is it like,
Starting point is 01:02:42 like a black-averse spect. Well, yeah, and like also, I don't know my eyes, like, and just, I take really good care of my skin, I have bad allergies, I don't want it up my nose, like, it's just a whole thing. And yeah, so like a lack of respect thing. Like, it's one thing to gizz in my stomach, but on my face, like, I'm cool.
Starting point is 01:03:00 I, far before I met my wife, and I'm not about to drop a crazy bombshell here, I had a buddy who was dating a porn star. And so there were porn stars around. Yeah. Jaxie's the date of porn star, I've met. Yeah. And a lot of these people I met were lovely people, but I did notice a trend of bad skin.
Starting point is 01:03:20 And I wasn't sure whether it was just from bad living or from other reasons. Oh, I wonder if it's bucacu. You heard it here first. What a way to end the bod. Right. But you still didn't answer the question. Um, but I won't do that. I would do anything for love. I would do anything for love. I won't do that. What's that?
Starting point is 01:03:43 I think it's most things. You wouldn't do most things. I'd like, how do I say this? I think love in quote is overrated. What's not overrated is my wife. Like, I love my wife. I respect her. She's the greatest person I've ever met.
Starting point is 01:04:01 And she would do anything for love but you wouldn't do anyone but page. I would do anything for page. But I see we do anything for love but you wouldn't do anyone but page. I would do anything for page but I wouldn't do anything for love. Like I think people are obsessed with the idea of love like the whole marking and platitude. I totally am. I can feel that. Yeah I'm with left left target aisle one million percent. So like what about like jumping out of a plane skydiving, swimming with sharks like anything like that's a fear that you're like hard hell no.. So you're like that? Yeah, I covered with tarantulas. I do anything for page, but like...
Starting point is 01:04:28 Would you eat a cockroach, a live one? Yeah, if I had to, I wouldn't be stoked on it. But like... If Luke told me to eat a live cockroach, I would kick him to the curb and be like, we tried. See, we're so invested now. There'd be so much paperwork for Page Tonight to get divorced, so it's like at this point, we own property.
Starting point is 01:04:46 We have children. Yeah, you have assets. I don't want to get split in half. Yeah, I don't make that much. So you would need a cockroach. If I had to eat a cockroach, but what I'm saying is, and maybe even more sort of revealing, is if it didn't work out with Page and I,
Starting point is 01:05:01 I wouldn't ever look for another spouse. Like, I find like, there are people who are like, well, if love doesn't work out for me with my partner, my husband, my wife, my whoever, like, I'm dead set on finding love. I'm not. I wasn't interested very much to your point when I didn't have a lot of relationships before a page. I wasn't terribly interested in love before my wife. I just found someone who I was like, oh, you. You're my person. And I, and I'm terribly interested in love before my wife. I just found someone who I was like,
Starting point is 01:05:25 oh you, you're my person. And I admire her. And she's made me a better person. I think she's like the greatest mom. Totally. But if for some reason got forbidden, it didn't work out between us. I would just be like, yeah, all I cook up with like a CVS pharmacy tech here and there just to care my kids Free vaccinated Yeah, it's fun. So that's the answer. Okay, well Josh. I love you so much. I love you I'm obsessed with your book you guys happy people are annoying Buy it everywhere you can buy books probably mostly anything.
