Tonight's reality check.
The allegations of corruption at Pritchard Water Works and Sewer Board are not new.
New tonight, Lanyet newspapers reporting online the accountant with the Pritchard Water Board said, quote,
this is the biggest case of fraud I've ever seen.
Former Pritchard Water Board manager Nia Bradley arrested prosecutors charged former operations manager with theft by deception and aggravated theft byception Mobile County Metro Jail Written by the Big Homie, Brendan Kirby Updated February 28, 2022
Mobile, Alabama, WALA, the former operations manager of the Pritchett Water Works and Sewer
Board surrendered Wednesday on charges related to allegations of improper credit card charges.
Nia-Malika Bradley, 47, is locked up at Mobile County Metro Jail without bond.
She will have a bail hearing on Friday. The criminal complaint alleges that Bradley stole
more than $200,000 dating to January 2018.
But we believe this is just the tip of the iceberg in this investigation, Mobile
County District Attorney Ashley Rich said. As I said at our last press conference, these things take time.
There are thousands and thousands of records.
The arrest is the first in a probe launched by the Mobile County District Attorney's Office
and the Alabama Attorney General's Office earlier this month
and comes a day after federal agents raided the water board's headquarters.
Rich said Tuesday's raid is unrelated to the charges filed Wednesday,
and she added that she expects more arrests in the future. board's headquarters. Rich said Tuesday's raid is unrelated to the charges filed Wednesday,
and she added that she expects more arrests in the future. The review that we've done over the last couple of weeks has led us to this, she said. This is, again, the tip of the iceberg.
And as we continue to review more records, it'll lead us elsewhere. And it may lead to additional
charges being filed against her. The District Attorney's Office filed two charges against Bradley, first-degree theft
by deception and aggravated theft by deception. The latter charge stems from a relatively
new law passed in 2019 and intended to target large-scale fraudulent schemes like the one
run by financier Bernie Madoff. The offense, alleging theft of more than $200,000, is a Class A felony, which comes with a possible
prison term of 10 years to life in prison upon conviction.
It also has a longer statute of limitations than the standard theft by deception charge,
six years after the fraud is discovered, and increases the maximum probation period from
five to ten years.
Bradley's attorney, Jason Darley, said his client was at work Friday morning when law
enforcement officials went to her home to arrest her.
She turned herself in at the jail.
Rich did not offer many specifics on the allegations but did confirm they are related to reports
of charges made to utility credit cards.
The Louis Vuitton bags and some of the other things are included, as well as a lot of building
materials and building supplies that have been purchased on behalf of the Pritchard
Water Board and not used at Pritchard Water Board facilities, she said.
Darley repeatedly has said the Water Board authorized the credit card purchases his client
made on utility credit card.
We've got authorization and contracts, he said.
Like I said, if there becomes illegalities from people above her,
well then, obviously, that's something that's going to have to be dealt with.

Damn, they was tearing the Water Board ass up. You hear me? Hope they had fun. V then feds on their top. Now, anyway,
it's your girl, Envy Allison. I'm out. Up first at five, we've got this incredible video of
literally hundreds of high-end designer bags, shoes, sheets, even a safe. All the stuff taken
out of Nia Bradley's house during a raid by sheriff's deputies and investigators with the DA's office.
Bradley is the former manager of the Pritchard Water Board.
She's facing serious accusations of questionable spending.
Investigators telling Fox 10 News she racked up more than $200,000 worth of illegal charges on utility cards.
Now we've got live team coverage to break down the very latest on this
case. Fox 10 News investigative reporter Brendan Kirby found out that Bradley may have been getting
ready to skip the country. But first, let's go to Fox 10 News' Dacian Smith. He was at that
treasure trove of a raid today, and Dacian, a lot of stuff.
Yeah, Byron, the number of items they brought out of the house was huge.
And I can tell you the front yard and porch was filled with items believed to be purchased with money from the Pritchard Water Board.
Investigators were also able to make another arrest during the raid.
Sheriff deputies spent hours going through Nia Bradley's house with members of the Mobile District Attorney's Office.
The items that are being taken from the home, we believe that to be proceeds from illegal monies.
Investigators searched room by room and even the attic to find several items believed to be purchased illegally by Bradley with funds from the Pritchard Water Board.
There's just a lot, a lot here. I've never seen anything like it.
Some of the items include a large variety of long guns, including rifles and shotguns, along with several handguns.
But that wasn't all. Investigators found several Gucci bags, stacks of name brand shoes,
including Nike, Adidas, and Jordan, along with multiple Louis Vuitton bags.
There are potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stolen merchandise in the house. The yard being filled with items truly puts into perspective how serious this investigation is.
The yard being filled with items truly puts into perspective how serious this investigation is.
It's just mind-blowing that, first of all, that somebody would steal public funds, but then to purchase these vanity items, it's infuriating.
The Mobile County Sheriff's Office also arrested Nia Bradley's husband, Anthony Bradley,
and charged him with receiving stolen property in the first degree.
As investigators load a trailer full of evidence,
Chief Assistant District Attorney Keith Blackwood says it's the start of a long process.
This is an investigation that will take a period of months.
The prosecutions will take months, but they are going to happen,
and they're going to be done the right way.
The items taken from Nia Bradley's house will be taken to a secure facility
as investigators continue to inventory exactly what was taken live mobile dacian smith fox 10 news
