hello and welcome back to even more news the first and only news podcast my name is katie
stole say it again katie stole hi i'm cody johnston cody johnston thank you say it again cody johnston
okay joining us today just a thrill to have her a writer for some more news host of the creature
feature podcast and the new co-host of the secretly incredibly fascinating podcast that's right you guessed it
it's katie golden that's me i'm katie golden nobody else nobody else nobody else i made sure
of that nobody else you made sure of it that was so sinister sounding yeah it was meant to be As is her right I did crimes
You look so cute right now to say something like that
Because the way you are situated in your frame
You're very small
And it's like
Tall behind you
And the microphone is positioned in such a way
That it looks like it's bigger than your head
It is
You're like I did crimes anyway
I'm just very small I'm about two inches high I do small crimes it's bigger than your head. It is. And you're like, I did crimes anyway.
I'm just very small.
I'm about two inches high.
And I do small crimes.
You know, petty theft.
Small crimes in a big way.
Nothing to get indicted over.
No, I'm too little.
They try to put the handcuffs on me and whoop,
they're like hula hoops.
They're like hula hoops on me.
And they're like,
ah, dang, she's little.
You're like, what's this? Oh,. Ah, dang, she's Lil. What's this?
Okay.
Get her, she's Lil.
We got some holidays, y'all.
Y'all.
Are they good?
We got some holidays, y'all.
Yeah, let's just say April 6th is Passover.
First night of Passover tonight.
There's multiple nights?
Oh, I'm sorry. Congratulations on not getting killed. Passover tonight. There's multiple nights? Congratulations
on not
getting killed by a
wrathful God.
That's the wonderful thing
to celebrate. This one is
really good for you,
Katie, because
April 6th is
National Carbonara Day.
Ah, yeah. that's right actually is brought to us by the
pasta lobby which is a thing apparently disgusting yeah it's a big pasta is a real problem we don't
need lobbyists to say that pasta is good we know we know it's good. I want some now. We don't need them
to tell me. But I don't
I mean the Italian variety is better.
Does the pasta lobby
show up to Congress with like
suitcases full of
noodle? Like penne
and just like going hey
why don't you try some of this? Just
try some of this.
You want some hot nudes?
It's too spicy.
That's Ted Cruz.
It's literally just butter.
It's just butter.
Butter and salt.
Oh, it's hot.
Katie, I have a question for you.
Get it off me.
They're wriggling.
Thank you, Cody.
He thinks they're worms.
Is carbonara like a thing in Italy,
or is it kind of like how we're like
we love taco bell and mexican food you know what i mean capybara i mean yeah it's a thing
uh it's a thing it's legit the thing that is i'm trying to remember the thing that's not a thing
alfredo right yeah alfredo's fake. Fake Italian.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But Carbonara's a real thing.
All right.
But like the Alfredo where it's like that white creamy sauce.
No. Yeah.
It's like Parmigiani sauce.
A little Cheeso.
My favorite way for me to enjoy pasta would be with something like that, to be honest.
Yeah.
Because it might taste good, but it doesn't feel good later.
Yeah.
It might taste good, but it doesn't feel good later.
Yeah.
No, I mean, like, honestly, the stereotype about Italy loving pasta is absolutely true.
They love it.
Well, one would hope.
Yeah, one would hope.
It would upset me if I found out that they didn't like pasta.
Most Italians didn't like pasta. But I think that people everywhere enjoy pasta.
Got to.
Yeah, it's kind of
how could you not yeah i think every culture has pasta in it some kind yeah some kind of noodle
also almost every culture has like a dumpling also almost every culture has like meat in a
pastry kind of thing so i think that it's just like we're all humans
and we like the taste of carbs and salt.
And fat.
Yeah, and we think like, oh, well, we can put it in here
and then it's easy to eat.
When we break it down like this,
we all don't seem so very different, do we?
But only when we break it down like this.
But only when we're talking about pasta.
Exactly.
Okay, we got more holidays, though.
Thank goodness.
April 7th is Good Friday.
Congratulations?
Just going full circle here.
I don't know anything about this holiday either.
Neither of these holidays.
This one's a Christian holiday.
I know that.
Yeah, it's about um the
crucifixion of uh jc right did we blow right through ash wednesday when was that
oh we blew right this week blew right through ash wednesday if it's about christ being crucified
why is it a good friday i'm all right he's back don't worry he's back yeah soon yeah soon soon folks and then ending on
something of a lackluster i don't know april 7th is national tempera day
yeah a day to commemorate a delicious japanese dish of crispy fried fish or veggies
look this one i guess people don't enjoy around the world. This is less of a unifier.
I mean, not that they would, but it is on there.
But like, do we have, well, I guess we've got fried food and all that.
I feel like tempura is like obviously a specific kind, but we love fried shit.
Yeah, we've got like breaded and fried zucchini flours here.
We've got fried Snickers flowers.
Is there an equivalent to tempura in Thai cuisine?
I don't know.
I think we've gotten a lot of mileage out of the holidays today.
Like Jesus got a lot of mileage out of his death and resurrection, right?
Yeah.
Got a whole religion out of it.
He slaps a hand down on the cross got a lot of
miles out of this baby what can i do to put you in one of these die for our sins is what you can do
before we talk about the news katie how's it going uh how you co-host we've mentioned it up top but
i'm going to say it again secretly incredibly fascinating
with our pal alex schmidt schmitty the clam yeah schmitty the clam and i have entered into an
agreement that we both find mutually satisfactory where we uh host a podcast together and like we
like outside of the podcast though dead silence we
like once we stop recording we're just like yep it's done so it's totally ruined your friendship
yeah yeah it's kind of like Penn and Teller except that if one of us was silent it would be a
difficult podcast right it would be but that's fun that's great more places to listen to you more things
yeah no it's great it's it's a real fun podcast if you haven't checked it out we talk about things
that you might think aren't fascinating but spoiler yeah they are okay katie save the plugs
for the end of the show damn it i sure did um you walked right into that trap no i'm thrilled
about this development when i first saw you guys post about it i was like yes this makes sense
this is a good duo i think you guys work your energies work well together yeah a little secret
about alex schmidt though total diva oh yeah yeah total diva what's he been up to now
throwing things asking yeah yeah he just throws things a lot like he pauses the podcast and he
picks up like i don't know a box of tissues and throws it wow wow i am shocking keeps going like where's my macchiato where's my bugatti and then you know
we don't know like i'm in italy i don't know yeah i don't yeah i don't know what you're talking
about he's like where's my rolls royce dang does he ever find it uh yeah
well it would be hard to misplace that for too long, I would think.
I mean, that's shocking, but I guess it makes sense.
This is how one, because he seems so calm.
But how can anybody be that calm and sweet without having a dark side?
So thanks for sharing that secret.
Yeah, he seems like a very kind, enthusiastic person, very wholesome, very curious about the world.
But no, it's really all about his Rolls Royce.
All about his Maseratis.
It turns out nothing is what it seems.
Hey, good looking.
What you doing?
Practicing your ventriloquism routine again?
I hear that.
What you doing?
Practicing your ventriloquism routine again?
I hear that.
The body is a lot like a ventriloquist dummy in that they both have eyes
and you gotta fill them with vitamins every day.
Like how I take AG1 to make my skin felt feel its strongest.
You see, it's a vitamin drink
that takes what you'd normally have in a multivitamin
and puts it all into a single drink.
You just mix a scoop into some water
and you're elbow deep in that nutrition hole.
Boy, oh boy, I get so excited talking about AG1.
They even offer a travel cup for you
to take your ventriloquism vitamin act on the go.
So if you're looking for an easier way to take supplements,

I'm great at it.
It's an ad.
Listen, I sure like it when things go fast.
Cars, bikes, pennies whipping through the air.
I throw pennies everywhere I go.
I heard there's a movie called Rocketman.
That's surely about a fast person, right?
Unfortunately, Netflix doesn't carry Rocketman unless you're in the UK.
And that's why I use ExpressVPN.
They can change my IP address so I can decide where I want Netflix to think I'm located.
Vroom, vroom. One ticket to Rocketman, please.
You know what else goes fast?
Their blazing fast streaming speeds.
ExpressVPN also works on all your devices so you can watch the Rocket Man go fast from your phone or your smart TV or your laptop while you go really, really fast in a train.
Throw pennies in the train and then the pennies go train fast.

Okay, enough with the chit chat.
Yeah, get out of here.
We gotta talk about some news.
Go on.
Last.
Get.
What were you gonna say?
You were gonna do a joke.
It wasn't even a joke i was just yelling at
the idea of news sorry do you want me to leave no no no just the chit chat leaves yeah just the
chit chat so last week we recorded uh a wild ride of an episode and then when we were done trump was indicted and we hopped on real quick just to say
whoops lol trump got indicted but we'll be back next week and lucky for us yesterday of this week
is when he was actually arraigned i believe this is the words arrested officially but not in like
a satisfying way where we got a mugshot but you know
or yesterday two days two days ago two days ago by the time three days oh yeah it was three days
ago by whatever guys it was earlier this week earlier this week arrest on a tuesday arrest
today so uh yeah that's right it's right there if i'd looked at my notes on tuesday trump pleaded not
guilty to 34 felony charges in manhattan i just want to say every time i read pleaded it feels
wrong like trump pled pled not guilty sounds right but it is not right let's talk about that
instead of donald trump pled guilty he guilty. He plaid guilty. Not guilty.
He is the first president, current or former, to be charged with a crime.
Not that all of them shouldn't have been.
No, none of them ever did crimes.
First president to ever do crimes.
First crime.
First one.
First crime ever committed.
First rich guy crime.
What a trailblazer.
one first one i'm ever committed first rich guy crime what a trailblazer um all of these charges are uh related to the 130 000 hush payment to uh stormy daniels um who had said she had an affair
with donald trump in 20 2006 26 reading good today it's going well all right i'll read some key facts for this case uh the charges
against trump are all counts of falsifying business records usually these are misdemeanors
in new york but prosecutors are are elevating them to felonies by linking them to violation of
violations of election and tax laws during the the arraignment, prosecutors brought up
Trump's recent social media posts regarding the case.
I don't know why I'm giggling.
It's awful.
But specifically targeting Alvin Bragg,
the first black district attorney in Manhattan
with a pretty terrible,
but not surprising, truth social rant.
What'd he say?
Bragg refuses to stop despite
overwhelming evidence to the contrary he is a soros backed animal who just doesn't care about
right or wrong no matter how many people get hurt then adding there is no legal system this is the
gestapo this is russia and china but worse disgraceful but worse into russia and china
but worse and it's like the gestapo but worse also backed by soros
it's all the hits yeah yeah they also showed uh his now deleted post of an article that included
a photo of trump holding a baseball bat juxtaposed next to a photo of DA Bragg.
Do you think it's because he likes baseball?
I think that might be the reason, but I can't.
Do you think it's because he's athletic, too?
Yeah.
I mean, he doesn't have knees, but...
Do you think it implies something else?
Could.
What do you think, maybe?
I don't know.
According to certain political cartoons,
he's absolutely yoked
i have seen that are we still talking about donald trump or yeah uh trump he he's he's a
swole fella uh according to one cartoonist i think it's funny that um he refuses to stop
despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary maybe there's part of the post that i'm missing but
uh evidence the contrary that he's gonna stop no the uh because he's pleading not guilty but he did
these things like the the arguments that i've seen around this uh whole situation from uh little
wieners like jonathan chate specifically uh is that like there's no real legal grounds to...
It's mostly just that it seems like a political thing
and maybe they shouldn't do it.
But it's true that this happened.
So it's not that there's overwhelming evidence
to the contrary that it happened.
It's that there's some people saying
that maybe it's not worth it.
Right? Yeah, it's not worth it right yeah it's also like the arc the legal argument i think has been that because so it's something that the the business like um falsifying
the business records is only a felony if it is uh covering up for another crime right like in the facilitation of another crime and that other
crime is the campaign finance sort of crime and so like the argument is that because the
falsifying the business records is like the state law and this is being
pursued as a a state in the state's legal system in New York, like that because the other crime is a
federal crime, that that's somehow not wouldn't hold up legally. But then there are also arguments
that yes, it does hold up legally. So it's like there could be some like, legal thing like legal,
I wouldn't say loophole, but problems in terms of the process, but or not.
It's not super clear, but it's not that like he didn't do these things because it's extremely clear he did.
Right.
There's no question that he did the thing.
I mean, Michael Cohen was in prison, right?
Was it over this?
Lying about this?
Yeah, it just seems like, I mean, mean you know and i don't disagree that like
there are other crimes that are worse that he's done and should be prosecuted for that is true
but maybe all crimes maybe we do all the crimes that he did maybe maybe yeah maybe
yeah i mean it's frustrating because like the campaign finance crimes he did, I think, may have passed the statute of limitations.
There's some argument that maybe they haven't because he moved around from state to state.
But they may have passed the statute of limitations, which is super frustrating because they've been investigating this for, what, like five years?
A long time and they haven't they
never charged him and maybe it's past the statute of limitations why wouldn't we know specifically
if it's past the statute of limitations this is not on you like why no it's because it's because
because like there's law can be hard to interpret sometimes.
So it's like there's some argument that like because statute of limitations depends on like where you which state you've committed the crime in.
And so like if he since he moved from like New York to Florida or I'm not a legal scholar, so I'm probably fucking this up.
I'm not a legal scholar so I'm probably fucking this up but there's some
argument that perhaps the statute of
limitations does not apply in this case because
of him moving
from state to state but
yeah
I guess part of what I'm getting
at here is
like yeah these are crimes
are they the most damning
sounding crimes
the crimes that I wish we led with maybe not
i hope these other ones come through he's got a lot of other uh legal situations hanging around
uh he tried to steal an election he tried to steal i don't know if anybody listening knows
about that but well i was just about to say that that would be the one that i would have led with potential racketeering and
conspiracy to commit election fraud in georgia that would be great there's an element like i
keep seeing like why they do this why don't they um why don't they do this one first and stuff and
it's just like that is that how the legal system works like you like all the da's get on get on
the horn and they're like well who's gonna do
their first well i'm not ready let's like well you wait i'll do mine first and then you go but
i gotta push back slightly probably not that's how the legal system works but this is dragging on
this is going to be an important part of our all of our lives for the next couple years it will be affecting
the election that we are now entering it will get him the nomination i'm sorry but i think that you
have to be pretty smart about how you're trying to prosecute donald i mean sure i just don't know
if that's how it works right like maybe but i don't like if you know oh we have like uh wait
wait for four years.
But especially if we're not even positive about the statute of limitations on this one.
Well, right.
Exactly.
Like, so we're if we're saying like, oh, why they wait so long if maybe the statute of limitations is up.
Why didn't they wait for this other crime?
Well, then this would, you know, like you prosecute what you can when you can.
I mean, I think that they've been like extremely I mean, it is a question.
Why didn't Merrick Garland prosecute him like before the statute of limitations ran out?
Wokeness.
Presumably on the on the campaign finance crimes.
And it's like, you know, it is I think it is frustrating how long this has been drawn out, because I think for like anyone else that you're like trying to get for crimes, they would be much faster.
And I think because it was Trump, I think that they were really worried about it looking political or causing outrage. So it's they wanted to like cross every t and dot every i precisely
and you know what like that's great actually i think that you should be extremely thorough when
you're about to prosecute someone it just seems like for powerful people they do that a lot more than for, like, say, some 13 year old kid who like had maybe some weed near them.
Like and then they're you know, so it's like I think that, yeah, maybe.
Yeah, it's great to be really thorough and make sure that you're really kind of making sure that you absolutely have the evidence for it but why do we only apply that to
rich and powerful ex-presidents yeah that's a good point um also not wanting to seem political
so let's do it right as an election is gearing up that seems less political um but you're right
i know you're i complete i agree with everything you just said
i just uh i i'm not looking forward to watching how this unfolds um i oh yeah everybody's been
very excited about it and i have this sense of foreboding in my chest in my belly i'm like i
don't think this is gonna go well but But Katie, I got a joke about orange man
in an orange jumpsuit.
Yeah, I think it's really gonna-
Oh my God, the colors are the same.
Oh my gosh.
Yeah.
That does sound funny though.
Yeah, he's orange as is his jumpsuit.
As will be the jumpsuit.
As will be a darker than orange. His face will be red jumpsuit as will be a darker than orange it'll be red his face will be red from
embarrassment which is close to orange um it will be i mean obviously it's very funny um and we
nobody can take that away from us um no matter what happens but it's impossible to not have this
be political because he's a the most one of the most popular political candidates
and like former president of the world and like what's the time like what's the day when it won't
be political when he's dead do we have to wait until he dies to prosecute him for crime so it
doesn't seem political um it's like well like i don't know what you're saying i'm i'm saying
two years ago would be better. Even two years ago.
I mean, like, but that would be political, too, right?
Like, it would be like, sure.
But I mean, the timing of it.
He has declared that he is running for office since this.
All of this.
He has raised more than seven million dollars since the indictment was announced.
All of this donor money could even be paying for
his legal defense he spent nearly 10 million dollars from his pack save america on his own
legal fees which i'm sorry it does sound like doing the same fucking crime yeah it's very
he's selling a shirt he's selling a shirt that uh has a fake mugshot of him on it because they
didn't want to do it yeah yeah because they didn't want to do it yeah yeah because they
didn't want to do an actual mugshot mugshot so it's like i'll look hard in this photo it's very
funny anyway my point my point is like obviously this is politics so it's going to be political
but it's way more political than this election's coming on and he could just use it even if we're not trying to
he's making it so i don't know and we're basically we've handed him the nomination which to be a
further honest i'd rather have him have it than desantis at this point i mean there's no way
meatball ron was gonna get it was he uh there was no way i thought maybe he could as soon as trump
dropped the meatball Ron there was
like obviously this helps him in the in the primary because of our diseased country I don't
think it will help him in the general because we're not that diseased but I don't I even without
this I think he would have got the nomination like i
don't think that i have such anecdotal stories i know i mean the closer we get like i just don't
think like we've talked about this ron meatball ron doesn't have the juice it's a dry dry dry
meatball the dry meatball um even though he's also wet like it's somehow a wet, dry meatball. Yeah, because it's moist over there in Florida.
Carbonara.
Capybara.
It's a meatball that's dry on the inside and wet on the outside.
Yum.
A sweaty, dry husk of a meatball.
All I know is that prior to this, in my little mountain town, which everyone has got to be sick of me talking about but
is people were kind of like i like desantis you know maybe he's an alternative like those were
some of the conversations that i was having and i was like i don't like him which oh i believe that
i just think that um there's something i wasn't quite finished okay no it's okay i just so but
the second part of it was conversations since this have been a little bit defense defending Donald Trump.
A lot of conversations that are like, this seems ridiculous. This is an absurd like situation.
This isn't going to stick. Nobody seems to. I'm like, there's lots of other crimes, things.
They're like not. But they're all focused on this one and it's like drumming it
does feel like he's drumming up support at least yeah and of course it's so anecdotally but uh
i don't i don't disagree with any of that i think that was always the case um and i like him again
like this will get him the nomination for sure i think he always had it um because it's his party and it'll be his
party until 20 years after he's dead um and again ron don't don't don't got the juice um but like
to your point because i think that people have people do like ron because he's been tucked away
in florida and he can do like little florida politics and he can go after the wokes and do his little crt stuff arrest 13 year olds of his uh ideological opponents exactly um but once that
gets to a national level and he has scrutiny i just don't think it would i just don't think he
his like i like ron de sanis i don't think that carries when he's actually like against Joe Biden. It would have maybe.
Yeah, but when he's but if he's up against Trump, though, I think, well, definitely up against Trump, but even up against Biden, I don't think he has.
I think his national appeal personally, again.
Well, he definitely doesn't have national appeal to me.
It's just the thing that i was afraid of and i don't think
because i i thought that if you could get ron desantis and joe biden a lot of people don't
like joe biden and a lot of people that voted for joe biden because they didn't want to vote
for trump would probably vote for desantis and give another guy a shot but i don't think that's
the situation we're going to be in i think it's going to be donald trump and we will be in a whole brave new world by the time we get to that yeah stage of this next
election and we'll get to this a little bit and we've talked about it before um in other episodes
of shows that is this one like the because ron obviously has been doing a really bad trump
impression uh for years and he also is basically
going politically his instincts i think it's just again good for florida and but not good for uh
the nation because as we'll discuss later he's leaning into all of this like it's the libs of
tiktok stuff it's the uh the wokeness the the CRT thing, all the trans, the grooming, all this kind of
stuff, which I think is really off-putting for maybe not all of the country, obviously,
but for more than half. I think they're really put off by these weird, obsessive freaks with
bad ideas. And I think once you elevate him to that national level i just
think that the nation will be kind of sick of it because he doesn't really believe it he watched a
guy like people get tortured um and i just think that once uh the national lens gets on him i think
people would reject it whereas trump is able to carry that stuff forward
to an extent because he has the sort of like weird like demon charm that people are attracted to um
which i think is necessary for that to work he somehow manages to come across as like i'm one
of you guys while like traveling in a private jet which is yeah it's wild his yeah is his real real strong point
is being like hey i'm just like one of you i like mcdonald's in my private jet and i just don't
think i think ron is like trying to do that really hard but i he he doesn't he's not that no and like
we've talked about you know like yeah like obviously like we've talked about like the uh
the fascism word a lot in this show but and in order for stuff like that to take hold, you need
somebody who's not Ron, fucking Meatball Ron.
I don't think he's got
the flair.
I feel like that's similar to here in Italy
with Maloney, who is
literally a fascist.
And I'm
really horrified by what she's doing
in terms of trying to
clamp down on LGBT rights and migrants.
And it's really horrifying.
But I'm not, at this moment, at this current juncture, I'm not super worried about a fascist takeover.
Because I don't think she's got the juice either.
I think she is also a little bit of a meatball.
Yeah.
She's like a dry tempura.
Yeah.
Guys, we got a...
Speaking of meatballs and tempura,
we've got some sponsors.
They are not sponsors for either of those things, though.
Oh.
So...
Okay.
But enjoy this.
I guess.
Hey, it's breakdancing Cody.
You know, ever since I broke my leg trying to dance at a wedding, it's been hard getting to sleep.

spicy mario i'd like to see an italian tempura there i just there is one it's um fried
zucchini flowers oh yeah spread it in zucchini flowers that is italian that's not just an
american i okay well no no no that's here in uh here in northern italy yeah well speaking of all
that stuff we were just talking about do we want to talk about marjorie taylor
green only barely um she was all about donald trump so fucking much um yeah god there's just
so many awful people just like flying around why would you let her on your fucking show
what is this 60 minutes bullshit well i, I was going to talk first about.
Yeah, but we could just do that.
No, you know, I mean, outside the courtroom at the arraignment, everything.
I like the way we have Marco doing research for us while Jonathan's gone.
Shout out to Marco.
I always like to credit our.
Anyway, I like the way he phrased this.
The coverage of Trump's arraignment was breathless.
Yeah.
That's kind of what it felt like.
Everyone's like.
Oh, yeah.
You get a hundred.
It's so cringe.
Yeah.
Big circus.
Big media circus.
But before the arraignment.
I think my favorite commentary was like someone on some network saying like, in this photo,
he really does look like a defendant.
Oh, my God. I saw i saw it like what are you it's so fucking pathetic um there's like because they
build it up obviously they're building it up like this is the trial of the century this is
this has never happened to a president this is the biggest thing in the world we're all gonna die
and then they the thing happens and
they're like this wasn't this was like this seems like kind of like standard like kind of you know
milquetoast charges and stuff this doesn't seem well what did you expect he wasn't on trial for
murder like you didn't think it was gonna be murder you knew it was related to this thing we
all know about like it just like they're they're so fucking bad at this yeah they
are and uh like i even saw like i saw something similar to like he really looks like a defendant
it's like uh talking like it really looks like the weight of this is like really finally hit him
like what the fuck are you talking about he's gonna sell his fake mug shot in an hour trying
to pay for it you know it's like everybody needs to show their linguistic skills or like
paint the picture and you're like just shut the fuck up turn on the camera
but uh i was gonna talk about this element of marjorie taylor green she tweeted she would be
holding a rally to protest the charges but it lasted just like five minutes before she had to
get the hell out of there because it was such chaos.
But she had tweeted, got ahead of things. I also reject any attempt and anyone who dresses in MAGA but incites violence or commits violence while pretending to be one of us.
You are not one of us.
You are one of them.
So love that little nugget there.
She's like, God.
she's like god when it's like when you're live streaming yourself and your entire history online has been being a trump supporter and you are or you're well known in the movement as like a trump
supporter and everyone else also live streaming also trump supporters they're all just plants
actually that's the takeaway.
That's what she wants everybody to know.
Well, also, like, yeah, Janie Sixth was an Antifa CIA operation.
But also, everyone in prison is a patriot.
Exactly.
So which one is it, Marjorie?
But I just share all of that to set up.
I mean, I guess this happened before then the 60 minutes but this
is the person we're talking about and talking this whole thing so you had some thoughts on this cody
you were getting ready to go it's whatever i just like obviously the attention is what fuels her
i don't know what she actually believes i don't know if she thinks anything is
true about the jewish space lasers or whatever um but they had her on 60 minutes for reasons i still
can't figure out beyond they want those ratings which i'm sure they got so there's the fucking
reason um in the interview she said the democrats are the party of pedophiles yeah wow wow yeah and
that was that yeah that was like les leslie stall is was the interviewer that yeah wow okay wow okay
okay and she's like being like well you know you want to maybe you should stop name calling it's not name calling
yeah like it's if you if you think that is true you want those people to be in prison or dead
like that is what she is saying it's not name calling it's not like oh the donkey's over in
the democratic party no you're calling them like like it's i have a question is matt gates
still in office uh yeah yeah don't worry about that to me i did but it's just like i get so
frustrated every time you know it's another thing i hear from people like there's so many pedophiles
in democratic party show me your evidence but also i can literally point to the ones in the republican party are
you not i mean like you can point to of course a former speaker of the house who was a republican
who went to prison for molesting children dennis hastert yeah oh yeah that guy yeah not that long
ago i mean it's just bonkers that like like, Leslie Stahl, the 60 Minutes interviewer, is just, like, acting like a preschool teacher who's just gently reprimanding, like,
Now, Marjorie, maybe we should do our indoor voices when we accuse half of the country of being pedophiles.
It's pretty embarrassing.
Seriously, it's like, you're being a little mean right now.
What?
No.
seriously embarrassing you're being a little mean right now what no just like in the interview when marjorie was going on about how like basically the lgbtq agenda is like uh you know sexualizing
children or something and and her response was just like i don't know if that's true or you know just like like that you know like
wow you know just like oh geez oh heck oh geez oh gosh you know it's just but the response should
be like how how it like how are you like just by if you teach kids right that homosexuality exists
you're like oh that's sex that's sexual content well then you can't teach
kids about heteros like you can't teach kids about marriage in general because you know if you're
like say if you are saying that just knowing the existence of gay people is sexual inappropriate
content for children knowing the existence of straight people is also sexual inappropriate
content for children
so you couldn't even you could you would have to as parents you would have to pretend not to be
married in front of your children like what are you talking about why like why wasn't her follow-up
question of like what do you mean that's sexual content exactly how is that sexual content okay
Exactly. How is that? Okay.
Okay.
When people were talking about this and upset, I, you know, I try to stop and think, like, obviously, I don't think Marjorie Taylor Greene needs to be platformed or any exposure.
In theory, I don't want to shut down and say, like, no, we can't interview people.
But I don't didn't.
I was like feeling back and forth conflicted um and
this interview was everything that everybody said it would be like a softball thing uh you know it's
just such a it's just absolute waste of everybody's time um and just makes the situation fucking worse
yeah like bring her on and like you're gonna do it do it shit or there's like be prepared
like you know she talks like you always know she do it. Do it. Or there's like be prepared.
Like, you know, she talks like this.
Say the thing, even if it means that she's going to get up and walk out.
If she's not going to answer the question and leave, do that.
Do the actual interview.
Right.
I mean, that time.
It's a real example of how this idea of sort of impartiality is kind of a fraud.
Right. Like 60 Minutes is supposed to be this thing where Leslie Stahl is sort of of impartiality is kind of a fraud, right? Like 60 Minutes is supposed to be this thing
where Leslie Stahl is sort of an impartial interviewer
who's just kind of a stand-in for the audience,
sort of this like every woman
who doesn't get too political.
And what a just like lie it is,
that lie of impartiality.
Because if you're impartial,
you are allowing certain ideas to kind of flourish, right? Because if you're impartial you are allowing certain ideas to
kind of flourish right because if you're like someone's like i want to kill this group of people
and you're like oh okay well that's your opinion you are allowing that to go uncontested right like
it's you're validating as like as an opinion that's as impressive
discussing or exploring um which is not do you guys want to talk about some good news
yeah this is some good news janet protis say with one i am so impressed you could say that
and they spelled it out phonetically for me but i also practiced and um when we shot our episode on
on wisconsin i heard cody had to it took some time a bunch of times we had to start a takeover
so a bunch of times that's actually not true uh that's true of other uh words that i don't always
nail but it wasn't like a big long time but we had to stop i think you're making it up okay he got this one right out of the
gate i got it wrong out of the gate got it right out of the gate she won she won a very expensive
race uh for the wisconsin supreme court uh it's a 10-year term which means that democrats in
wisconsin will have a four to three majority that will last until at least 2025 when there's another liberal judge's
term set to expire. And also, I guess, as I'm saying this out loud, something terrible could
happen to somebody and there needs to be an election. But that's not what's going to happen.
The Supreme Court in Wisconsin has not had a liberal majority since 2008 and will have a very, very big impact on the state's abortion and election laws.
So congrats, Wisconsin.
Congratulations.
It's really fun to see in a very sadistic way, which I fully own,
the way in which these right wing ghouls are squirming and crying about how people need to calm down about the abortion stuff because you're scaring everyone off.
They're like, you can't you can't like go too hard after like abortion.
Right. Like you can't do these like extremely scary abortion laws because you're scaring everyone.
And then they're voting you out. Like Ann Coulter, there was like a,
in the Wall Street Journal,
there was some like article about it.
It's just like they are freaking out that,
oh, shit, we've gone too far with the like abortion stuff.
Like the abortion stuff, we gotta like rein that in
because people actually don't like it
when you take away
their human rights such a stupid hill for conservatives to be dying on this issue they've
been climbing that hill for decades and decades you know running up there what are you gonna do
if not die yeah they're tired and old now yeah exactly fine die up there we'll be down here mcconnell climbing up that
hill for so long you know yeah it's pretty heartening that this happened um is this
positivity that i believe i don't think that we're lucky that they've been going after abortion
but i do think that it has been helpful in getting people to vote for Democrats.
So there's that.
When they do horrifying shit that hurts people, sometimes people will be like, oh, yeah, maybe that's not good and vote against them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
them yeah yeah it's a hopefully it's one of those things you know hopefully the democratic party will use their power um to do good things and protect people who need protecting that would be great
there's an idea there's a new idea it's a pretty good idea if i yeah you can toot toot my own i don't know what i'm saying to toot my own um sorry are you gassy or i don't
know i don't know what i am to toot my own butt it would be good if they did that um but and this
i mean this is the trumpy thing right oh trump's bad so we're gonna vote for democrats oh this
thing there the republicans did is bad so we're gonna go for democrats and to sort of what i alluded to earlier uh aside from like the abortion
issue which uh is driving so much of this and hopefully things can be done um to protect that
right and it is very funny to see everybody sort of panic and like oh my god actually
oh it's we shouldn't have done that but every sort of step
of the way it's like oh red wave red wave red wave and like elon musk and like i'm voting republican
now because i'm a smarty um it's all smoke and mirrors it's not actually true that like yeah the loud people really really want uh the the demon dems the demon crats to to tank
but largely i think i hope most people in the country can see the republican party for the uh
weird freaks with no ideas that they are um and every single election we see they lean into this stuff again like desantis is like a
campaign manager or a publicist i forget uh her position but like she's just a huge libs of tiktok
fan she's into all that stuff and a lot of people are but not most people um it's off-putting i saw somebody share a text from uh uh kelly um
produce was uh produce is uh opponent and it was like the democrats are sexualizing children they
want to groom your children like it was like really hard in on that it's like people don't
like that shit it's so off-putting and weird um and more and more people i think are realizing
that they're just weird freaks who are obsessed
with this kind of stuff and they don't have anything to offer they don't have ideas to help
people and which is why they have to lean into all this other stuff the only thing that people
seem to like about conservatives are like taxes or something and yeah or but i'm like are they
that much better for your bank account
for your wallet for your taxes at the end of the day they might do a bunch of stuff to say they're
working on taxes want to cut taxes but are they are they actually because i know that my taxes
got worse after donald trump was in office personally uh yeah well they get better for
you know uh people rich a lot of money.
Like, yeah.
Yeah.
But I mean, it's the thing is like about what you're saying is like, I think that the only that conservatives are now publicly saying that the only way they win is through rejecting democracy through undemocratic means. I mean, there was this tweet by Ali Alexander, who was the he's a far right activist. He organized the Stop the Steal
protests, the January 6th protests. And he tweeted, we just lost the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
I do not see a path to 270 in 2024, meaning the the votes needed to uh win the presidential election
and saying like you got to put someone popular on the ballot absent of that gop has less than
10 chance uh talking and so he is he is uh basically saying that without the wisconsin
supreme court they can't win the presidential election now that sounds weird
you're you're correct because he's basically saying they need to have control of the courts
so that they could invalidate democratic election results using the courts and they are just
publicly saying that now you've got like i get them kind of confused because they're both like the same brand of demon ghoul.
But like Bo Bear and Marjorie Taylor Greene, like one of them is like saying like one of them.
I think it was Bo Burt saying that we're not a democracy.
And it's like this idea of like we like they are out in the open saying like, no, no, no, we're not a democracy.
You know, saying like, well, we're a republic actually instead, even though we're like a democratic republic.
Representative democracy.
Yeah, representative democracy.
But, you know, they are really out in the open saying like, yeah, democracy is bad because we lose when we give people the vote.
Which is what we specifically lose when democracy
because our ideas are bad we're weird little freaks like right it's yeah the fact that like
it's so it because also like and then like the both sides stuff the extremes the radicals in
both parties like you see like you could have uh you know many critiques of uh alexandria
ocasio-cortez um but like putting her next to like marjorie
taylor green there's there's there's so much space between them like uh aoc is like again
you can have critiques of her and like she's not perfect but she's normal you know like and
the more like boberts or greens that get in the party it's just i don't know unless they
do the illiberal democracy sort of uh approach that they like hungary and wisconsin in a way um
wants to do then uh like a fun a fun kind of test to see like hey which far side of the political
spectrum is worse or are they the same is like,
which side is like openly advocating against democracy, right? Like, are people on like,
are the far leftists, which we don't really have any far leftists in power, but whatever,
like, is, are the AOCs, right, of the world or Bernie Sanders, sanders um ilhan omar is like are they ever saying anything to
the effect of we need fewer people voting like do we are they saying like hey we need to get
the vote not out you know like are they are they saying like we need to
limit the amount of voting happening because when you look at like far right uh far right activists
so you know or people like active congress people they're like say like saying hey actually we're
not a democracy we don't want people voting uh that seems to me like a bad thing and that's like
that's kind of like the scariest thing to me, right? Because like if they do manage to somehow through like, I mean, they're already doing it.
It's been a long project, right?
Like redistricting, redistricting, gerrymandering, suppressing the vote, voter laws that make it difficult for women, minorities and young people to vote.
Like they are really trying on all cylinders to stop people from
voting and now they're just saying that right they're saying like the quiet part loud yep
yeah i don't know how winning of a strategy that is so far it's not yeah i mean like i have
i've seen or heard from people at certain points it's like well i wish i had like a benevolent authoritarian
that's what we need and i'm like i'm not gonna touch that i do but um i'm like i sometimes i'm
like does this kind of thing are people just so fed up that this that kind of messaging can work
i don't think it is working but maybe on some people yeah they want iron man they want like a
leader who like is a movie and that they know
everything they do is good because i see all the scenes of them i see when they kill it's for a
good reason right like i can see in in the i can see the scene of them like saying like oh they're
struggling and they do the right thing like it's just uh that person doesn't exist world it's like yeah uh guys we did it we just chatted careened our
way into the end of this hour we chatted we destroyed the news it's done now oh uh just
real quick we're not going to talk about this uh at length but i feel like we should mention the
like in the context of like what we're saying about like the courts and this sort of like corruption and you talk clarence thomas trump yeah getting indicted yeah clarence
thomas seems to like he did a little bit of crime oh boy just a little bit just acceptance of lavish
gifts and vacations and whatnot yeah cool from republican donors so like from republican donors he got these like very lavish
gifts of vacations and stuff and he's supposed to report those uh and he did not well it would
have looked really bad katie if he had reported that it would have looked bad especially with
his wife and the january 6th stuff you know the thing that's bananas and again i'm not a lawyer
so maybe i don't know what
i'm talking about but like it seems weird that the problem is just that he didn't report it and not
that he accepted gifts from republican donors like that part is apparently okay if you report it
that seems weird that seems weird i certainly don't want a judge with a lifetime appointment to be able to
do that i'll tell you what sounds bad don't always have great laws yeah some of our laws are bad
and the rest of them are also not great okay katie now is the time when you can plug your shows. Ah, damn it. I've forgotten what my shows are now, though.
One of them's about like squirrels or something.
Love squirrels and stuff.
No, so I am the host of the iHeartRadio podcast Creature Feature, which is a show about evolutionary biology.
It's a fun little romp through the world of nature.
It makes biology something we can all enjoy.
Talk about stuff.
I do talk about squirrels sometimes on that show,
or gross worms, or cool snakes, or bats,
pretty much anything.
But also, hey, there's another show I do.
It's secretly incredibly fascinating.
And I co-host that with the incredible diva, Schmitty the Clam, Alex Schmidt.
He is, in actuality, an extremely nice person.
And he is very fascinated by the world.
And every week he teaches me about stuff that seems like it is on
the surface, like, I
don't know, it seems normal, but then
you dive into it, and there's a whole
wacky world behind everything, like
paperclips, we just recorded one on
chalkboards, we're
gonna do one on crows soon.
It's really excellent.
Please do check that out on MaxiMap.
It is really really interesting both of
these shows are great um alex schmidt is a rare gem of a person and so smart and sweet
he also wrote a recent episode about the wisconsin he sure did situation so multi-talented
and it is remarkable how interesting even the most mundane things can be once you peel back
the layers and what i love about him and you both of you this is why you guys are a good team
is that you are curious about life and you do peel back and look at it and there's a joy to that i
think personally yeah no wonder where we we're like little children opening presents except that the
presents are the world and knowledge and you don't get overstimulated and have a crash like
an hour later because you know everybody brought too many toys and it's like what is the value of
this actually you could have a box and discover joy in that. Yeah. Yeah.
It's better than Christmas is my point.
Right. Okay. Well, we're done now. Time to
go and get out the not vote.
Time to get out the not vote.
And while you're doing that,
stop the vote.
Hey guys, just
you gotta know that we love you very much.
Much.
