Starting point is 00:00:00 Sort and scale contains adult themes and violence and is not intended for all audiences Listener discretion is advised Okay Oh my god. Hello and welcome to season 4, episode 97 of Sword and Scale, a show that reveals that the Wars Monsters are real. The story we have for you today is one which is so hard to fathom, one in which you're not really sure who the victim is and who the perpetrator is. In fact, we still don't really know, because this case is still evolving. But we need to bring it to you right now so that we can figure this out together.
Starting point is 00:01:12 It's pure insanity. Look, I don't want to give anything away, so let's just go ahead and get started. If you've ever been to a gender reveal party, you probably had a good time. An expectant mother finds out she's going to have a baby boy or a baby girl, and she wants to share that excitement with her close family and friends. That moment when an expectant couple slices a cake, pops a balloon, or opens up a box of confetti, and sees pink or blue, is one of the happiest and most exciting moments for soon-to-be parents. A gender reveal party is almost always a joy-filled experience, but it was far from that on Saturday, July 8, 2017.
Starting point is 00:02:36 That day, Cheyenne Willis planned to reveal her baby's gender at her home on Captain Drive in Colrain, Ohio. She invited close family and friends to join her in celebrating the new life that she would be bringing into the world. On that afternoon, she revealed her baby's gender. The party began at 4 p.m. At 7.14 p.m. on that same day, Cheyenne Willis
Starting point is 00:03:01 posted the Facebook status, It's a boy. At 8.44 p.pm, she uploaded some photos from the event with the caption, Family is Everything. Thank y'all for coming and showing support and love. As the celebrations wound down, more than a dozen of the original 30 or so partygoers gathered around a television set in Shayan's home to watch one of the spider-man movies. At 11.21 p.m. at least two men showed up at the front door wearing hoodies and carrying guns. They burst into the home and without a word began to shoot at the group gathered around the TV firing off at least 14 rounds into the living room of Cheyenne's home.
Starting point is 00:03:45 911 calls started coming in almost immediately after the gunmen fled on foot. One of the party guests was outside in her car when she saw the two gunmen approach the front door. 99? What is the name of this? Somebody in the house? A kid? What happened? 99? 99? 99?
Starting point is 00:04:36 17. You guys are just aiming? Yeah, two guys are just aiming and shot at people in the house. Who are you? What's up, there's a guy in the kitchen. Who's my machine? Okay. That's 9917.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Is somebody actually shot? Yes. Okay. Who was shot? Is there a little kid part in everything? I was sitting in my car. They just ran in and started shooting their pregnant girl here. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Okay, are they there anymore? The people who were shooting? No, they took off running. Okay. And do you live at that house? No, we were having a baby shower, like a reveal party. Are there people hurt? Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:34 Yes, there are people hurt. My neighbor, Lori White, a female. A female. Yes, she's a female. This pleasant evening had turned into complete chaos. Imagine one minute watching Spider-Man with family and friends, and the next minute trying to figure out how many of those people had been shot. It's an unfathomable situation, and amidst the confusion, the 911 operators try hard to stay calm and sort out exactly what's happened. I don't even know. Are the people who shot them still there? No, they come out front and it was where they run.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Where did they run to? They ran down towards Redskin. Ran towards Redskin. Blue hoodie. One hat on a blue hoodie. One hat on a green hoodie. They just ran in, searched shooting. Were they male whites, black, white, white, white, white? I don't know. They had their in search shooting. Were they male whites? Blanc was on the panics?
Starting point is 00:06:45 Female's whites? I don't know. They had their hoods up. I don't know, but if I was in my car in front of the house, they didn't see me. And me and one of the guys that were here, and they were walking by and I said, well, they were not going to speak in, and they turned back around and ran in the house. And then I was in search of shooting. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Okay. Can you tell me about the people who were shot there? back around and ran in the house. We started shooting. OK. OK. Can you tell me about the people who were shot there? I have not even been in the house yet. OK. Can you hurry or are you able to go there and find out because we need information for you and us. How long has that been?
Starting point is 00:07:21 Is anybody injured? Yes. Yes. How many people are injured? I don't even know. There's a kid. He was sitting down outside. He was hurt. Where is he? They're all in the house.
Starting point is 00:07:36 There was probably about two or three people in the house. Can you go there and ask? Can you go up to the residence and ask or check and make sure the condition of these people. Okay, she's pregnant. How was she hurt? She said she's bleeding. That's all I know. Okay, where is she bleeding from? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:58 I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know that's all I know. Okay, where is she bleeding from?
Starting point is 00:08:08 I don't know. The pregnant woman they're talking about, who is now injured, is Cheyenne Willis. I don't know what kind of vehicle are you in. I'm a black car. I'm going to get a black car. I just see the cop light. Can you talk to the police now? I see them.
Starting point is 00:08:38 You see who, the police? I see the cop light, but I don't see. Well, because there's a shooting, they're gonna wait for backup, okay? That's why we need to have information about the people who may be injured inside. We need to... We need to wait. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:52 It's... It's... It's right here. Right here. Okay, thank you. Thank you. As confusing and chaotic as the scene appeared from the outside of the house,
Starting point is 00:09:01 the scene inside the house was one of utter turmoil. Hello, nice one. What is your name? What is your name? Details are hard to pin down. The caller isn't even able to say with certainty whether or not he'd been hit with a bullet. What is going on there? I want to say look at that. Tell me what is your name here and shot all of us.
Starting point is 00:09:46 It's 9-9-1-7-1. Is this Captain? No, no, I want to say look at that. Okay. I think, I think, I think, I got hit. Is the couple of people that got hit? How many people are shot? I don't know what to make you wear every shot on a leg.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I'm shot. There's a whole lot of people here. I have several people. Yeah. Okay. Where are the shooters? I don't know. I just think two people are blind. I'm looking outside. That's what I know. They just weigh in and it just works. Okay. It's in his way, this way, you see. Is everyone breathing? Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:30 That's all. We have the paramedic already on the way. You guys need to be the shooter anywhere? No, they know. Do you have a description of them? No, I don't know. They may make my ass out for these dogs. They're just for suing.
Starting point is 00:10:50 No, not so. We out there watching TV. They just wear their source suing at every time. Okay, nobody, nobody has a description of them? No. Okay. All right. Do you need any medical instructions for me?
Starting point is 00:11:04 I don't know. Everybody needs to. Alright, do you need any medical instructions for me? I don't know, everybody needs to do this. Do you, where are you shot? I don't know, I'll take you my stomach, you son. I just throw my stomach at you, I'll take you on time. I'll take you on time. In case you missed that, he said, I think my stomach is shot. The 911 operator is doing her job by keeping the collar on the line and pressing for more
Starting point is 00:11:33 details. But considering the collar is trying to figure out whether or not he's just been shot, it's understandable that he starts to get frustrated answering her questions. Okay, are you bleeding? Yeah. Okay. There, there, there, all their way. How many people are inside the house right now? What?
Starting point is 00:11:57 How many people are inside the house right now? I came and Steve talked to while I was in the car and then he shot me. It's a couple of miles plus a bigger shot. Who used to ask me to talk to questions about something? Sorry, I'm telling you all I could talk to those guys. Sorry, you don't know how many people are inside the house right now. Can you come to the security room? There will be two.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Okay. All right, I have them on the way. There should be an obstacle in the right now. Another 911 call is placed as a different party goer heads over to the neighbor's house for assistance. By now, the 911 operators are pleading for details, trying to figure out just how many ambulances need to be sent to the Capstan Drive home. 911 emergency dispatcher young. I need to get some rest.
Starting point is 00:12:46 I need to get some rest. I need to get some rest. Okay, okay, I'll open it up. I'm looking, listen, wait. Hello? I'm looking, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait How many people? How many? How many? How many? How many? How many? How many? How many? How many people have been shocked and someone answered that question. I need to know how many people... If you're getting frustrated with this call, let me remind you. This woman has just been shot at least 14 times, unexpectedly, while watching a movie in a friend's living room.
Starting point is 00:13:57 At this point in the call, she apparently hands the phone off to a neighbor, and the line of questioning starts over. Hello? off to a neighbor. And the line of questioning starts over. Hello. Um, to address, I have a address, but I, I got the address. Man, please listen, listen, listen, listen. Uh, somebody just danger on my door. She's been shot. And how many people, uh, how many people have been shot? Hello, uh, Hollis and Red Steel. I have been dispatched. I know where it is.
Starting point is 00:14:30 I need to know how many people have been shot. Let me see. I guess I can get more of this with 99.82. Five people? Yes. Okay. Can you give me their ages? 5 people? Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Can you give me their ages? She looks, I can't see his dark. I don't know where she's in labor. She looks... Okay. That's on her leg. What does it matter if the people are blind? I may have, I know that.
Starting point is 00:15:02 I have the police and ambulance this fish. I'm trying to make sure I have enough ambulances coming. Okay, that's what I'm trying to get. We have said, we're close. I'm just trying to make sure we have enough. Okay, the people with the gun, they're not still there, correct? We'll have to say. Okay, we just want to make sure everyone is safe.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Now, can you tell me, like I said, we've got to go. Hello. Yes. Do you guys think it's someone here? Don't get asked quickly as they can, okay. Can you tell me anything else? Ma'am, all I know is, I don't know what's going on, I just know she's a neighbor. I was at home, and my business, and I just heard someone in distress banging on my door, and again, lady was bleeding and she said she's been shot, and so has someone else, and I just tried to come out and see who was going to win.
Starting point is 00:16:01 I understand that, and I appreciate it. Like I said, we've got them dispatched, We're just trying to get more information for them. They're coming as quickly as they can. Okay. Okay. And I would keep everyone in your house inside away from the door of the window so that you guys are safe. Okay. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Everyone in your home is safe. No one's been hurt there, right? Right. No one's been hurt there, right? Right, no one's been hurt. Okay. Okay, just call us back if you think of her, find out anything else. Okay, thank you. Bye-bye. Throughout all of this, the 911 dispatchers have other calls coming in.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Dr. Turner, I'll channel 5 too. Please dispatch her on us. Okay, Mo. Hey, it's Frank's with Townsroom, are you? Good, how are you? have other calls coming in. Listen closely as you'll hear shouting from one of the Capson Drive 911 calls in the background of this unrelated call about towed vehicles. We'll call on Township. Yeah. How many grades?
Starting point is 00:17:14 Okay. Let's see. Corrin. Like within the last 12 hours? Yeah. Like within the last 12 hours? Yeah, apart with the last six. Um, one is a Toyota Sienna. What's the plate on that Toyota? The juxtaposition of this mundane everyday call about towed vehicles against the yelling
Starting point is 00:17:55 match in the capstone drive call is astounding. Maintaining composure in such an extraordinary scenario is a tall order. Finally, a woman who sounds to be the same neighbor as in the previous call places one last call to 911. Yes, can I have an ambulance please? Okay, let's see a dress. The address is, I don't know their address, but it's where in Colerine Township when redskins young lady
Starting point is 00:18:29 does bang them my door she's been shot okay someone else has been shot okay and okay what's your address I need to know an address on or an intersection on redskins hollas and redskins okay and you don't have an she has been shot at. I can't see her dark. I don't know where she has been shot at. I can't see it dark. I don't know where... As far as she's been shot at.
Starting point is 00:19:10 She's been shot on her legs. What does it matter? Did people or dine? People have been shot with differences of make. Okay, I was just trying to find out if she was shot in the head or the chest. You're getting upset and it doesn't matter. She's walking dine and saw us someone else. Okay, we already have, we already have...
Starting point is 00:19:28 I've already got the ambulance dispatched for a shooting on Capstan. Is that where she came from? What is your name? Yes. Hello? On July 9th, the day after the gender revealed party, Fire Chief Frank Cook labeled the shooting a mass casualty incident. He compared it to the April mass shooting at the cameo nightclub in Cincinnati in which two people were killed and 15 others injured. In Fire Department terms, we consider it a mass casualty incident. The shooting victims at the
Starting point is 00:20:13 gender reveal party were transported by ambulance within minutes of the 911 calls. In last night's incident, our first arriving crews were able to enter the scene, take a look, wrap a look at what they had, determine and prioritize, who was treated first, who was transported first. Just from a performance measurement, the first ambulance unit on the scene was able to conduct its initial triage and was able to transport the very first most critical patient within five minutes. Subsequent arriving units because of the work being conducted by on-scene firefighters and paramedics and EMTs, subsequent arriving units were able
Starting point is 00:20:58 to transport in about a minute to area facilities. Nine people had been shot. Five victims were taken to UC Medical, and three injured children were taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital. They're ages eight, six, and two years old. Yeah, Tamiqa, we did just get a little bit of information about those who were brought here to UC Medical Center. They have five patients that they are treating right now
Starting point is 00:21:22 from this shooting incident. We're told that one is in critical condition. Another is listed as serious and they're working to stabilize three others. Now, as you know, there were also several children that were hurt and they have been taken to say children's hospital not too far from here. Three children are being treated there. The hospital is not releasing any information on their conditions. We are hearing, however, that their injuries are not life threatening, but the hospital
Starting point is 00:21:52 is not saying at this point what their actual conditions are. And that's the very latest we have here, again, eight people total being treated from this incident in Colman Township. Of the nine shooting victims, eight sustained non-life threatening injuries, but one did not make it to the hospital. When first responders arrived, Autumn Garrett, a 32-year-old wife and mother,
Starting point is 00:22:17 was pronounced dead. Her husband and children were among those injured in the shooting. One of the victims, Autumn Garrett, died before she could even make it to the hospital. One of the victims, Autumn Garrett died before she could even make it to the hospital. We now know her husband and two children were also hurt,
Starting point is 00:22:30 but survived. Autumn Garrett's co-workers back in Huntington, Indiana say the mother of two was in a really good mood Friday. She was excited to go on a family trip to Cincinnati. I brought in a pair of red heels,
Starting point is 00:22:42 shoes for her dress because she was going to her brother's wedding and she was part of it. Garrett's colleagues at M&S Fabricators were just as excited to hear about the wedding but it never happened. It didn't really hit home until you hear the Cincinnati, you know, say that that's who
Starting point is 00:22:59 it is. That quick, you know, like it was like a snuff boom she's gone, you know, it's like you can't believe it. For a whole family to have to go through this and to have these little kids so young, have to grow up without their mom. And you know, she never gets to see her kids grow. And as a mother myself, that is the worst, worst thing I can think of, they were her world and so was her husband. They were teenage wee hearts and just loved each other. On Friday, July 7th, Autumn Garrett left for work in Huntington, Indiana, excited to attend a wedding and her cousin's gender reveal party in Ohio. The next day, she was murdered. A husband would never again have a chance to tell his wife, I love you.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Two children would grow up without a mom. There had not been a reported murder in Colrain Township for more than two years prior to the July 8 shooting. The woman who died in Saturday night shooting represents the only murder in this area in two years. And this shooting came as a shock not only to neighbors and community members, but also to law enforcement officials who hosted a news conference the day after the shooting took place. 11.21 pm.
Starting point is 00:25:00 West night our officers were dispatched into 9,00 block of Capstan Drive for shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered nine people who had been shot inside of a residence. The Corps and Township Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, along with the assistance from other agencies, transported the victims to area hospitals. But sadly, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene. That victim is Autumn Garrett. She's a female 22 years old from Indiana. Also, included in those victims were three children,
Starting point is 00:25:26 ages 86 and two, who were taking the children's hospital and have non-life threatening injuries. The conditions of the other five victims at this time are all believed to be non-life threatening. Our criminal investigative unit is working hard to follow up on any leads and interview witnesses. At this time, we have no suspect information to pass on to you.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Between the shooting and the press briefing, news broke that there was a tenth victim in the shooting. That victim was reported to be the unborn baby of Cheyenne Willis. authority say a 22 year old woman is dead and friends and family tell us a pregnant woman who was also shot lost her baby. The gender reveal party going on at the home was for that unborn baby according to those friends. You know in March we had the cameo nightclub shooting. I think we all remember when we heard the news or
Starting point is 00:26:14 what had happened at cameo in the extent of the violence in which 17 people were shot and two killed. If you go back to last year we have eight members of the rodent family down in Pike Kentucky who were shot and killed, murdered in their home as they slept, and still this day, no idea, the motive, no idea who it may be. Saturday night, Coleraine Township, we wake up Sunday to the news that a mom to be invited friends and family to gather her home in Coleraine, revealing as she was pregnant, but
Starting point is 00:26:44 they're going to reveal to the party goers, the identity, the gender of the baby, and it turns out it was going to be a boy. And so, General, this is cost or celebration. The big question this morning is, yet again, how did nine people at a gender reveal party, essentially at a baby shower? How did nine people get shot, one die, and the mom lose the baby. The unborn baby, whose gender had just been revealed at the party, had been lost, according to his mother, Cheyenne.
Starting point is 00:27:15 She had been shot in the leg and reportedly suffered a miscarriage as a result. Yeah, a couple of moments ago to make I did approach a woman. I know it's off to the side on crushes. I asked her, you are a part of this. Are you a victim in this? She told me she is actually the mother we've been hearing about shot in the leg, lost her baby.
Starting point is 00:27:32 She told me at the center of revealed part of me now. No nine people shot one person died here on seeing several others transported. So we are still working to learn a lot more about exactly how each and every one of those people are doing, particularly the children at Children's Hospital.
Starting point is 00:27:48 But that is the latest we've just learned down here on scenes and very sad news. She's seemed down but in relatively, she's holding it together. She's not in great spirits, but she was kind of after she had that information with me. We want to pass it along to you. At the press briefing, reporters wanted to know what future charges would be filed in the death of this unborn baby boy. As you might remember from episode 44 of sword and scale, charges in the death of a fetus are complicated and vary from state to state. If you can sit in the unborn baby at 10th of April, we're one of the women
Starting point is 00:28:21 who asked to keep their baby. We've heard that too from social media and third party, we've not confirmed that. I know a high law does allow for charges on death of a fetus. So that's something obviously we'd have to talk with the doctors in the prosecutor about. The officers were still working to confirm that a baby had been lost as a result of the gunfire.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Now what do we think lost a baby was this, whom the shower of the party was for? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. We don't know who that is or where... You don't even know if that's true. Again, we've not confirmed any of that individually at all. That's just...
Starting point is 00:28:52 We're hurting that third party from the median from social media. Okay, but nobody you guys have talked to reported missing them losing the baby. Correct. At this point, there was nobody to charge with anything in the first place. The gunmen who had fled on foot had not been apprehended, and there was nobody to charge with anything in the first place the gunman who had fled on foot had not been apprehended and there was little explanation or evidence as to what their motive might have been i noticed it uh... uh... and saturday night early sunday morning told residents of the air is kind of locked their doors
Starting point is 00:29:17 turned their lights on it is there still a danger that was there ever a danger to residents or this is a specific targeted event what i mentioned yesterday i had in my love to be able to tell the community everything's safe. It would never be an easy thing to say, and it would make everybody feel better, but I'm not going to do that because we don't know why they did this and who the suspects are. So I encourage the community to use the regular precautions that they always do lock the doors, call the police if anything seems suspicious and use your common sense.
Starting point is 00:29:44 There's nothing specific that leads us to believe the communities in any danger at all but again i'm not going to the family all clear and and somebody i'm injured which indicates uh... again back to motive you have no idea at this point by the sounds of it what motivated two people to shoot nine i can't imagine what the matter would be uh... i mean we all have in our mind what things may have happened but when you start including children and the
Starting point is 00:30:08 that kind of takes everything out of out of the norm and you you can't come up with a reason for what would be an adequate reason to shoot a two-year-old job. Can you tell us if the people at this party were actually the target of the people who went in? I don't know. I don't know if this was I mean there's a a myriad of circumstances that can show what happened there but we don't know. I don't know if this was, I mean, there's a myriad of circumstances that could show what happened there, but we don't know if they were targeted or if this was intended for someone else or they just happen to be there, we don't know that. Because the perpetrators escaped on foot and left little physical evidence behind, witness
Starting point is 00:30:37 cooperation would be incredibly important to this investigation. According to police chief Mark Dennyney witnesses were helping law enforcement to the best of their ability. Chief Mark Denney, Colrain Police talking about the shooting Saturday night, early Sunday morning and a Colrain township on the Scottslow Show News Radio 700 WLW. Are you getting cooperation from the victims? Are you able to get a good description of the shooters? We are getting cooperation in the with victims we have limited information about a description unfortunately uh... what we're starting to see as and we kind of thought this might happen when
Starting point is 00:31:10 you again when you start including small children in your victim count people who normally don't cooperate the police begin cooperating you crossed the line with the people that may be wouldn't cooperate and give us information we are starting to get some information people now that is given to get some information for people now that is given some good leads. The individuals that you speak of
Starting point is 00:31:28 are they outside of that house outside of that room on Saturday night or does that include the people inside? Everyone inside. Everyone inside neighbors, friends, and family of anybody that might have any kind of information is is stepping forward. And they had hoodies on right so it's probably even hard to see their face. That's what we were told yes. At this time, we're not going to any talk about any specifics in the investigation. There's nothing that's at suitable to be released right now to the public, but our investigators are getting some information from the witnesses. And they're being cooperative and they're working with you in this case. Yes, they are.
Starting point is 00:31:57 At the end of the press briefing, the call-rain public information officer addressed the media directly, urging them to make sure all of the reports were factual and accurate. I want to thank you for being here. I would also say that some of the things that you've heard you've asked about, I've come to find out where different media sources ask in neighbors and then take it down. So I would urge caution to make sure that your information is verified. Because I'm getting called and want me to verify things and come to find out it was just a neighbor guest guessing So show some
Starting point is 00:32:32 Professionalism in that area if you would please make sure that what you report is totally accurate This statement would be more pertinent to the case than he or anyone else in that room could have imagined CBS ran an article titled, expectant mother loses baby after shooting at her gender revealed party. Local ABC station ran the headline, unborn baby killed in shooting at gender reveal party. A New York post headline read, pregnant woman loses baby after shooting at gender reveal party. News outlets all around the country ran similar stories.
Starting point is 00:33:09 Apparently, they were confident in the source of the information. After all, that source was the mother of the unborn child herself. A pregnant woman who wanted to celebrate a new life lost her child in a shooting at a gender reveal party, police say two men burst into a home near since an ad last night at Open Fire while people were watching a movie. One person was killed, eight injured, including the expectant mother. She says she was shot in the leg and lost her unborn child. Police do not have a motive for the shooting yet.
Starting point is 00:33:40 The gunmen are still on the run. Now here is where the story gets weird. Cheyenne Willis, the expectant mother who reportedly lost her unborn child in the shooting, had been at the center of another bizarre crime story just two and a half years earlier. We have learned that the woman for whom the party was thrown has been a victim of violence before.
Starting point is 00:34:01 On Christmas Eve, 2014, Cheyenne Willis got new a fight with a woman named Cheyenne Fisher. Fisher had apparently lent Willis her car and claimed that after repeatedly asking for it back, Willis refused to return it. A video posted on Facebook shows Fisher and other alleged attackers slapping Willis, pulling her hair, shaving her head, writing, I got my ass whooped on her forehead, and then signaling their names. According to Willis, her boyfriend at the time had set up the attack.
Starting point is 00:34:33 She says she was betrayed by her boyfriend and now pictures of a battered tri-state woman are spreading on social media. The alleged attackers captured it on camera and proudly posted it. Evan Millward is on your side tonight. He is live with her plea for help, Evan. Well, we have confirmed that Forest Park Police are investigating this case, but Cheyenne
Starting point is 00:34:57 Willis says she is frustrated and humiliated because her attackers are still out and bragging about it and I'll warn you. Some of what you're about to see can be very hard to watch. I wouldn't just die, I really wish they would have killed me. I don't want to be here no more honestly. Shion Willis has bruises and a concussion but her emotional scars are so much worse. It's hard for me to talk about. I'm traumatized, I jump in every noise I hear. are so much worse. Willis says this is all about a car she tried to buy. It's owner, one of her attackers now says Willis stole it.
Starting point is 00:35:47 The people in this blurry video cut her hair, slapped her, then wrote a threat on her forehead, even signing their names. Willis says her then boyfriend set her up. She knows a couple of the girls who attacked. to attack. I'm humiliated. I don't I'm scared to show my face if I'm out. And as if that wasn't enough, these photos have spread all over Facebook. Shion's sister Amber. It had my blood boiling to be honest. I was really mad and upset. Willis filed this police report, but she says it isn't accurate. Now she's just waiting more scared than she's ever been. I don't really like saying that I'm scared of somebody because it makes your
Starting point is 00:36:28 appearance weaker, but I am scared. That's the truth. And she tells us she agreed to talk about this because she wants her side of the story out and she's found hope from the people who support her. But Cheyenne Fisher also wanted to put out her side of the story, claiming that Cheyenne Willis had picked a fight that she couldn't win. One attack, two different stories. A fight breaks out. The attack caught on video then posted on Facebook.
Starting point is 00:36:55 But it seems there's no clear cut victim in this case. Welcome back, a woman yelling for help, dramatic video of a Christmas Eve fight spreading across social media. Last night, no one on your side spoke with Cheyenne Willis, the 19 year old who was seen being slapped and having her face written on, on camera. Now one of the people behind that attack is sharing her side of the story. I didn't really punch her or anything, I just slapped her up and pretty much with fear
Starting point is 00:37:23 in her heart. Now one of the woman behind that atac I'm like, that's not the Fisher says Willis was the cameras didn't start rollin back. She's hollerin me out and she charged a on fighting her anything.
Starting point is 00:37:44 get in my car and leaving. She admits she loaned Willis her white Chevy Impala. But says for nearly a month, despite repeated messages, she never got it back. Willis says she put $80 down and was in the process of buying the car. Fisher says that's just not true. She stole my car, everybody saying that I sold a tour. She did not give me no money for anything. Willis filed a police report following the Christmas event incident.
Starting point is 00:38:14 Right now documents appear to show arrest warrants out for Fisher and another man Willis' ex-boyfriend, Quincy Gardner. I am scared. Scared because of a violent fight, Fisher doesn't deny. She says she just wants her side of the story to be out there. It was petty, but I mean, it was happening all fast. I mean, it is what it is. A grand jury decided not to file charges against Cheyenne Fisher, suggesting that Cheyenne Willis may have lied about the incident and misled investigators. Following the shooting at her gender-revealed
Starting point is 00:38:46 party, Cheyenne Willis would mislead investigators again. Only this time, she was interfering with a murder investigation. The guest of honor at a deadly gender reveal party was never pregnant. That's according to Coleraine Township Police. Now we call the prosecutor's office and we're told it's still too early to know if she'll be charged. and Willis was hosting a gender reveal party for a baby that never existed. ["Police and Police"] We are at the Colrain Township Police Department and for officers who work here and across the tri-state,
Starting point is 00:39:43 it really is about trust. When you light a police in some cases, you could end up in jail. Now, Colrain Township Police tell us Willis was not pregnant when two black men barged in the front door for home late at night and opened fire. Detectives also say other information they've gathered about the shooting from other people has turned out to be lies. The only facts they know for sure are the gunmen also shot three small children and killed Autumn Garrett. If you lie to us on the forefront, then it just destroys any credibility that you might have as a witness in a court of law. In Ohio, anyone who gives false information to police could face criminal charges for
Starting point is 00:40:24 obstruction of justice. In any case, leading police down a rabbit hole also puts a strain on public resources. You put a lot more over time. You spend a lot more of money. Investigators always have to verify everything. Coloring police will continue doing that to figure out who shot nine people in less than a minute and why they were led to believe for nine days that this woman's unborn baby was murdered in the process. The community expects us to tell the truth. We expect them to tell us the truth, too.
Starting point is 00:40:55 It goes hand in hand. Let's think about that for a second. Cheyenne Willis lied to reporters and investigators about losing her baby. But before that, she had to have lied to her family and friends about being pregnant in the first place. But what kind of a person would lie for months about being pregnant when she wasn't?
Starting point is 00:41:15 This is the same woman we reported on a couple of years ago after cell phone videos showed up of her being beaten, her hair cut off, her face written on, we've since learned a grand jury failed to indict the people accused in that incident. Now I spoke with psychologist Dr. James Dom today. Why would a woman lie about being pregnant and then about losing the baby? He said one of two things could be at play here. You either have a narcissist
Starting point is 00:41:46 or you have someone with low self-esteem. Now, he's not treated giant well as he's speaking generally. He said, this is a way for a woman to get control over numerous people to perhaps get sympathy at the very least to get attention. And so if this is some kind of pattern in her life, that might be what is it play here. She could also face some legal issues as could other witnesses and victims in that house
Starting point is 00:42:11 who gave false statements to police. Right now, Colerayntownship police are conferring with the prosecutor's office to see what their options are and how should they should proceed legally. According to Dr. Caleb Adler, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati, there are two possible explanations for a fake pregnancy. The first of which is pseudosciesis. Someone with pseudosciesis will actually believe that she is pregnant.
Starting point is 00:42:38 Sometimes this phenomenon, which goes by the layman term of false pregnancy and occurs often in dogs and mice, is caused by changes in the endocrine system, leading to the secretion of hormones which mimic pregnancy. But in other cases, a woman's belief that she is pregnant can actually spur the development of real symptoms, such as a swollen belly, enlarged breasts, and sensations of fetal movement. Someone experiencing pseudosaisis could realistically exhibit all of the characteristics
Starting point is 00:43:09 of a pregnant woman, just without an actual fetus. I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant. Then why are you denying my kid? Because you're not pregnant. My daughter thinks she's pregnant and she's not. My daughter is a compostable fire and delusional. She lives in like her own little fantasy world.
Starting point is 00:43:26 My sister really is crazy. She actually thinks her baby's Jesus. First time I heard her say that she was saying it was Jesus Christ and her stomach. It's not all you can say. You're not pregnant. You're not pregnant. You're just a f***ing jealous.
Starting point is 00:43:41 I looked at her like she had lost her mind. She was just going off into a delusional tailspin. She's not pregnant and never has been. I gave her two home pregnancy tests and they came up negative and then I took her to the clinic and they even did a pelvic exam and it was all negative. And then I took her to the health department and they gave her a pregnancy test and it came up negative.
Starting point is 00:44:03 Where the hell was it about? The apartment. F*** hell was that? Department. The hell's the department? They already denied my baby. I'm still showing he's fully kicking and I am pregnant. So what are we gonna do about it? Haley, a teenager who believed
Starting point is 00:44:19 that she was pregnant with baby Jesus went on Dr. Phil. And after ultrasound results showed that she was not really pregnant, she was forced with baby Jesus, went on Dr. Phil. And after ultrasound results showed that she was not really pregnant, she was forced to embrace reality and receive the treatment that she needed. How did you find out you weren't pregnant? Tell me about that.
Starting point is 00:44:34 I waited like full term, even a week after my due day and nothing happened and my stomach got flat. So I was like, that's weird. And then I started my period and nothing happened. So I mean, it kind of like urged me. It really upset me, but I was just, I was dead on set, you know, thinking that I was pregnant and I wasn't about to back down.
Starting point is 00:45:00 Some historians believe that pseudosysis caused the first queen of England, Mary Tudor, or Bloody Mary, to fake a pregnancy in 1555. However, pseudosaisis is exceedingly rare, only occurring in roughly one out of 22,000 pregnancies. The other category of false pregnancy is volitional. A woman who fakes a pregnancy of her own volition knows full well that she is not pregnant. I'm having sex, I'm having sex, I'm having sex and nothing is happening. But then finally, I miss my period. So my period didn't come one month, didn't come the second month. I said, okay, I'm pregnant.
Starting point is 00:45:40 This is a blogger who goes by really Rashida talking about a pregnancy she'd faked when she was younger. And at that point I told my boyfriend I was pregnant. I told everybody you know my friends I just didn't tell my parents or anybody but I knew that I was pregnant. I knew I was pregnant and I had to figure out what to do about it. So my friends told me about Planned Parenthood that I could go there by myself. They would not call my parents. It was something that would be very private. I will find two two good asses because I'm sweating to death. Oh my god. I go to play parenthood. I explain to them what the situation is. I take the pregnancy test and it comes back negative. Yeah, that was confusing. And I just could not bring myself to tell my boyfriend
Starting point is 00:46:26 or my friends that I was not pregnant, that somehow I didn't have a period, it was for some other reason. And I just wrote with that story until I couldn't anymore and I made up a story about having a miscarriage. So I did fake a pregnancy for about four or five months. And of course, there's also a pretty twisted website trying to make money off of fake pregnancies. It's advertised as a great gag gift, but plenty of people are using this to pull the wool
Starting point is 00:46:56 over their boyfriend's eyes. FakeaBaby.com is a website that has everything you need to fool someone into thinking you're pregnant. But at least a Guerrero report. Not everyone is laughing. According to these documents, you're pregnant. Oh my gosh. I sure look pregnant.
Starting point is 00:47:13 I've got this baby bump. I've even got these sonograms. But looks sure can be deceiving. I'm not really pregnant at all. This belly fake. These sonograms fake. These all. This belly, fake. These sonograms, fake. These documents, fake, fake, fake. And they all come from one place, a website called fakeababy.com.
Starting point is 00:47:34 Fakeababy.com. Seriously, it's a real website. They're even having a sale right now on fake ultrasounds and sonograms. Faking a pregnancy is a really messed up thing to do, especially to close family. Faking a miscarriage, however, is absolutely sickening. After the shooting, a sister of one of the victims left the following comment on Cheyenne's Facebook. Sad my sister was there and thought you were pregnant and that's the whole reason she was there because of you. Now she has three more weeks in the
Starting point is 00:48:12 hospital and therapy to learn to walk again. Let me find out you plan this Cheyenne. As the investigation into the gender reveal party shooting continues, we may learn more about what was going on in the mind of Cheyenne Willis and the extent of her involvement in any way. But what we know right now is that almost immediately Cheyenne Willis tried to use this mass shooting as a way to get out of her lies by faking a miscarriage. Now police say Cheyenne Willis made up the story that she was pregnant and lied that she lost the baby.
Starting point is 00:48:50 The gender reveal was all a sham. In this latest attack, Willis was shot in the leg. But after allegedly lying to police about the pregnancy, Herolas victim only is being called into question. Now in that beating case against Willis, those charges were ignored. In this case, it all raises more questions about what was the motivation for saying this was a baby reveal party. Who knew about it? Could there be some other motivation behind all of this?
Starting point is 00:49:21 Police are clearly frustrated by all this. They say that they have spent hours even days chasing false leads. Cheyenne Willis even had the audacity to set up a GoFundMe page titled Justice for Cheyenne that raised $85 before it was taken down. On July 7, 2017, investigators put out a news release in which they expressed their frustration with the information they'd been given. The release states, sadly, the police department, media, and public have been given information
Starting point is 00:49:55 that we have learned is false. Hours and days have been wasted following leads known to be lies when they were provided to our officers. From the very beginning of this investigation, we have met significant resistance that is uncommon from victims of crime-wanting resolution. As an example, we were led to believe an unborn child was murdered in this incident. Only to find out, that was not the case. That information is not provided to embarrass anyone,
Starting point is 00:50:25 only to provide a fair understanding of the challenges we have faced in the past nine days. The Colrain Police Department will not comment further on any other misleading information, other than to say we wish our time had been spent on true leads that would help us remove these dangerous criminals from the streets. An eight-year-old, a six-year-old, and a two-year-old had been shot. Five additional victims were hospitalized, and one woman died. Instead of doing what any rational person would do
Starting point is 00:50:58 in the situation, Cheyenne Willis used this murder to cover up her lies. Instead of doing everything in her power to make sure that the perpetrators of this act were brought to justice, she derailed the investigation. The woman who died at the party, Autumn Garrett to learn about the woman who was senselessly murdered in cold blood on Caffston Drive, on July 8th. My name is Marie Jones and I'm from Huntington, Indiana and I worked with Autumn Garrett at M&S Fabrication.
Starting point is 00:51:49 Can you tell me a little bit about your relationship with Autumn? It was a work relationship. Yeah, we talked. We worked together. We talked. She's always happy at work. Always. Not too much ever got her down.
Starting point is 00:52:01 We talked about our kids and her husband, my boyfriend, how they annoy us and what they do to annoy us. You know, typical, you know, typical, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old,
Starting point is 00:52:18 old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old, old that type of person that was very well-liked and she was just an awesome person. How long had you been working with her? For about 10 months. She had started about 10 months ago, but it was our factory is like the department that we have. It's very close. You work really close next to each person. And so, you know, I want to say intimate but not you know it's just a very intimate
Starting point is 00:52:46 working relationship because you're just usually side by side with that person. So you get to know people pretty quickly. Yeah. It sounds like she was a pretty special person. Oh a very loving person. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She loved her kids. They were her. Sorry. They were her everything. So was her husband. She had an amazing personality. She would always come in with a smile. Her laugh was just infectious. It was just a very loving person. She always cared about everybody. There's always, when you work in a factory, there's always drama somewhere.
Starting point is 00:53:36 She never bothered with that. She just, like every single person for who they were and she never judged any more not anything. She was a very caring girl. It seems like she was pretty loved. Oh, by everybody, not just her work family, you know, her family, her friends, everybody. I mean, she can use the type of person that when you came in contact with her, it was just instant, like a gravity just instantly made you just pop and laugh and everything you
Starting point is 00:54:07 know she just it was just that personality that she had to bring the best out and you know. Did you talk to her at all on the Friday before she headed up to her cousin's house? Just a little bit she wasn't really in my department that day but we did talk we didn't I just knew she was going to a wedding and just told her you, have fun. Be careful, because it's a long trip. And just have fun, be safe. And just the normal, my kids do that kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:54:35 Can you tell me a little bit more about her family? I only know about her husband and her kids. I don't really know any of her other family. I read that her husband and kids were injured in the shooting as well. Have you heard anything about how they're doing? I just know they're home. I haven't, you know, I haven't really heard much of anything different than anybody else has their home, their resting. That's why it. Yeah. I think that one thing that people who may have just read about this or seen it on the news don't necessarily think about is that they have the option to turn off the news and just
Starting point is 00:55:09 go on with their lives. But for Autumn's family and for her friends, that's not an option. It doesn't stop. No, it's not. You know, like I said, she only worked with us for about 10 months, but when you work with someone 10 months a year to years, it still kind of becomes like a family to you. And when you work with someone for so long and then you have to come in and know you're not going to see them again, it just leaves a big void. And
Starting point is 00:55:37 you know, for one, you don't have closure. And two, you just don't have that happiness that you had before. And you know, it's kind of like going to work, I mean, work is work, but, you know, going to work knowing that two weeks ago, you had just seen her, and then you have to go and not see her walk in at the fat feeling. What are you going to miss most about her? Her laugh and her smile and her just her lovingness. You know, just how friendly she was in her personality, really. It is how much she cared about people.
Starting point is 00:56:12 What is there? Her in general, going to miss everything about her. Ruby, thank you for speaking with us. Is there anything that anyone who listens to this can do to support her family? I would say, you know, if you know anything, let the police know, since it's an ad, you know, just let them know and just make sure that, I can't really say, make sure you're safe,
Starting point is 00:56:33 but you know, still by the news, don't really, to support them, don't really make things up or listen to other things, just send your prayers and know that what it hopefully just gets all of them, they can have closer. There is a legitimate GoFundMe page set up to help Autumn's family. You can go over to GoFundMe.com and search for Support the Garrett family and we'll also link to it from our show notes. Never take anything for granted. Autumn didn't think this she was never going to see her kids again, no after that, right?
Starting point is 00:57:05 Always make sure that you tell people you love them and they know because she'll never, she'll never get to do that again. Thank you Ruby. You're welcome. Autumn Garrett, her husband, her kids and the families of all the victims of this shooting are the reason that the integrity of the investigation
Starting point is 00:57:23 is important. Autumn's killers are still on the loose.
