You're listening to the Adam and Mark Show.
Yeah, get it on, got to get on it.
Thanks for tuning in. Thanks to an index tell a friend mark Garagos filling in for dr. Drew this whole week and
we thought well he has a
Field of expertise and so we should sort of stay on the subject with that or on point with that
We kind of covered the Trump trial or the one of many in the last episode.
The Hunter Biden case is interesting.
Mark has taken him on as a client.
Now I'm sure there's privilege and not a lot you can say,
but you know there's some you can say.
And so I think it'd be interesting.
Yeah, it's a fascinating case.
I mean, Hunter is, contrary to maybe the caricature that's
been drawn of him, it's the punching bag for certain media
outlets, specifically Fox.
We wrote a letter to Fox Nation announcing
that we'd been retained, demanding
there was a mock trial of HunterMind
that they had streaming.
We pointed out the infirmities with them
using his likeness and everything else.
And sure enough, to their credit,
they took it down within about 18 hours.
And so we continue to have a discussion with them.
And I will report back how that goes
with
Maybe before the next episode Wow
Have you physically spent time with hunter? I have I have in fact just this morning
I had a long call with him
Before I went into court on another matter. I sat with him and and he's he's an impressive impressive young man
Anybody is younger than me. I could consider a young man. So
He's he's you know, it's
one of the reasons I get attracted to cases as
You know better than anybody is if I think somebody is getting bullied or stomped on or
or is being vilified and so I don't care which end of the spectrum you may be I
that that is still attractive to me that still gets me going so you know it's I spent a lot of time with Hunter before taking on the case and I have no regrets about it.
He seems to be a likable individual and, you know, in the, well, pardon the adage, but
fun guy to get a beer with, except for he'd be drinking a Shirley Temple now but that's how we sort of understand our politics that you know I believe
President Obama made a lot a lot of bad decisions and policy wise and also I
think he kind of stirred the pot racially in this country but I do very
much understand the it'd be fun to have a beer
with that guy, which... Well, I'll go one farther. I remember sitting with, in a hotel,
I believe it was in Washington state, and it must have been either 2007 or 2008, and I was sitting with a small group of people in the hotel lobby
Watching a speech he gave and you know, I appreciate good
Oratory oratory and speech giving and he gave one of the most impressive
speeches and I was watching it and it turns out I won't mention her name, but one of his
advanced people was there with
me and I was complimenting him and she said that's what he does best and turns out she
was traveling with him.
But I understand the allure of him and the charismatic nature of how we connected. I mean some of those speeches he gave in real time back then were
For the were for the ages. I agree
But there's also something wrong with him and he may be a sociopath because first off all he does is preach about don't you?
Have enough money when's enough money? He's got five houses and the average price of his house is seven point seven million dollars
So spare us the speech about paying your fair share when you're gonna have enough money
He also gave horribly destructive speeches like when he gave this one about you have a small business
You didn't build that yourself
You had teachers you had roads and then he ended it by saying, somebody else built that. Are you fucking high?
Or are you retarded? What kind of message is that?
Telling people that built the business, somebody else built it
for you? That's communism there. So he's a horrible, horrible person. There's no
doubt
about it, but a great orator. but Jesus Christ the guy's dangerous when he talks
He's inspirational
He's inspirational to dumb poor people
That's who he's inspirational
There are those who would make the same argument about Trump so I get it so rich guys love him, too
That's what I would say. All right. So by the way, that reminds me, I was
watching Bill Maher, who was on the cover of LA magazine, was doing an interview with Alex
Michelson. I think it was with Alex. And they were talking about living in California and how much he
loves Bill. Bill was saying how much he loves living in California.
Although he didn't think that we were under tax.
It was one of my favorite lines.
I don't believe we're being under tax.
But by the way, have you noticed what the discomfort that people have with some of Mars positions?
I mean, you better than anybody has noted he he's
He's come he's evolved or some people would say devolved, but it really has it's really kind of a
Interesting journey he's on well
I can shed some light on this because he I know
the moment he sort of changed some of his stances,
more sort of liberal democratic stances, and I know exactly when it happened because I used to
say it all the time. He had a moment that was sort of a, well, you want to defund the police and then
your 13-year-old daughter was brutally murdered in her driveway and now you want cops, you want to defund the police and then your 13 year old daughter was brutally
murdered in her driveway and now you want cops.
You know what I mean?
So there's moments that change people.
I've told everyone who will listen to me ever since there was a microphone in front of me
because I was a builder my whole life and the second I stopped building and I got into
show business, I just started building my own places and had to deal with insane regulation and red tape and, you know,
planning and city building departments.
I realized it was a nightmare and this is 25 years ago or more in this city.
And I said, the second you move out of your rent controlled apartment in Santa Monica,
buy a house and try to add a deck or a guest house onto your house, then you will join
me.
Right now, you're walking to the Whole Foods in Santa Monica and you got rent control in
your apartment and you're paying 600 bucks a month for a place they could get nine grand
a month for because it's on ocean and you're on their side.
But come out with me and try to start a business
or try to add a second story onto your single family home
and then feel my pain and my frustration
and you too shall hate the government.
And-
As you know, I have railed against this whatever you want to call it in California
for years.
I mean, how many episodes did we talk about the outdoor dining and the in-yousee in California
with that?
And it just, they keep doubling down.
Well, Bill Maher's Come to Jesus moment about four, several years ago, and when I say several,
I probably mean about six, seven years now, he attempted to put solar onto his house because
he can afford it, because he's sort of environmentally wired, and I think most people like the idea
of solar. I tried to put solar on
my house when I lived up above Lake Hollywood and they told me that I had
to put a breaker switch outside of the gate at the end of the driveway and I
said well to shut the solar off I don't know in case there was a situation and I
said well how about I just put it in the,
in the breaker box or sub panel in the garage
or something like that.
And they said, no.
And then they told me every other municipality
will allow that, but not LA.
LA, you have to have it on the other side
of the front gate.
So Mark, I know your home and my home was not so different than yours. It was a long driveway and front gate. So, Mark, I know your home, and my home was not so different than yours.
It was a long driveway and a gate. And so you want to put solar up on the roof of your
primary home, and the easiest way to do the main shutoff switch is to put a breaker in
the garage underneath the solar. But the city of LA says no other place requires this but you are gonna have to
trench from your home to the other side of your gate to go outside the gate. I
need a two foot deep trench going all the way so we can run conduit for 300
feet and then put a breaker outside the gate next to your squawk box so the fire
department can hit the breaker if there's a fire and shut the solar off and no other city will require
that and then I say well then fuck it I'm not doing solar and they go fine and
I go okay but you want me to do solar don't you isn't that the thing you're
encouraging everyone to get solar but you're making it so difficult to do that we can't
achieve it. So Bill Maher tried to get solar and then he started getting hit
with the regulations and the red tape and they told him he needed a little
solar shack or something and he would go on his show on an almost weekly basis
and say we're up to day 364 of me not being able to get my permit signed
off for because of a four-by-four solar shack that they keep coming over and
inspecting. I have my eighth inspector and he's like it's too much. It's too
much regulation. I'm like now you're joining us. Now you're joining me.
In my quest, I've been saying this for 30 years,
but you didn't try to put solar.
So Bill didn't deal with the system.
He didn't deal with the bureaucracy.
He just lived in a nice home.
He doesn't have kids, so it's not the thing
where it's like, I can't use my school
because it's unused, you know, it wasn't any.
He just insulated himself.
He sort of hived himself off,
and he lived in this place where he sort of hived himself off,
and he lived in this place where he didn't deal with it.
Then he came down and he had to deal with it,
and that's when he started getting pragmatic.
That's when he started talking about overregulation
and overreach with government.
You know what that reminds me of?
I don't know why, but I come back to,
you remember the old house you used to live in that where you put
a little, I don't even know how big it was.
It was like a three by three piece of cement
over a little trench.
Yes.
You remember what I'm talking about?
Oh, I wake up in a cold sweat thinking about this
almost every night.
Okay.
I, I walk by that location every single morning,
including this morning before this episode.
And I look at that and I shake my head every day.
It's like a daily reminder of people having lost their minds.
And, and it's such a perfect vignette.
For those who don't know this story,
Adam got into a, I don't even, how would you describe it?
How would you adequately describe how this came about?
Well, I lived on a lot that was below the street grade, and there was also a kind of
a runoff flume thing that were this kind of a street gutter thing where when it rained,
all the water would just come pouring down and go down what was supposed to be a storm
drain on my property.
And it never worked properly and it would flood and it would fill up and my
backyard would flood and my pool would flood and the neighbors behind me
started getting it too and it was a it was a clear issue. It was a it was an
issue. So I surmised that if I went and pulled the storm drain off the grate off
about halfway the water would go down without the leaves collecting.
And then I talked to a hydrologist or something,
and I brought him over and I said,
how do you fix this problem?
And he looked at it and he said, you need to do this,
and you need to pour slab over the top of it,
and you need to build a little dam behind it,
and that will solve the problem.
And I said, oh.
And like you, this is not, you talk about a hydrologist,
but when you look at what you built,
it's a fairly simple and ingenious little kind of project,
wouldn't you call it?
I mean, it's not complicated.
So then at my own expense,
I followed the plan of the hydrologist
and I built myself this little cistern thing
and it solved the problem immediately and thoroughly.
And 100%.
And then the neighbor-
Did you get rewarded?
Oh yes. I got a fruit basket from the city.
Then the neighbor from behind me came up and said,
well, I want you to tear it out because my property's
getting flooded and I don't agree it's going to work.
And I have my own hydrologist and he doesn't think it's
going to work. And I said, hydrologist and he doesn't think it's going to work and I said I have seen it at work it works very well and he
started arguing with me first off I don't even know where this guy came from
but I solved the problem then the city showed up and they said tear it out and
I said first off I thought it was on my property I just solved a problem that
was on my property you're just solved a problem that was on my property. You're welcome." And they said, no, jack it out. And I said, well, look, I said, here's the schematic from
the hydro expert drainage guy. Can we not go off of what the expert is saying? And then
they said, our expert disagrees. I said, I didn't even know that you have an expert, but okay, he disagrees with what my
expert said to do, which does work.
And they said, fine.
And I said, look, how about this?
How about we just wait till the next rain?
If it's effective, then we'll agree to leave it alone.
If it's not, we'll alter it or we'll jack it out or whatever.
They said, okay.
I said, fine.
By the way, was, you know, just my little commentary, that alone was one of the great
victories in this saga.
Yes.
It's telling them to have a real world test of this.
Right.
Then it rained very hard, you know, several days or weeks later.
It worked perfectly once again.
And then they came back and said, yeah, we're going to need you to jack this thing out.
They said, well, wait a minute, I thought we had an idea.
I thought we had a plan, which is we're going to see how it performs.
It performed excellently.
And we should be able to turn the page and move on.
They said, no, now we need you to check it out.
I said, you know what? You can come check it out.
I'm not going to check it out. It works perfectly.
Why would you want to do this?
Then, of course, I sold the house.
And then when you're trying to sell a house, there's contingencies.
And there's this thing that's hanging over your head, right?
With the with the city.
And I don't even remember how it got resolved.
It was many meetings, many arguments,
much expense, much heartache.
And that was eight years ago,
and no one has touched it, and it's worked perfectly.
And the lake that would gather
where the two streets sort of dipped
in in the middle has been completely dissipated. There's no more water gathering there. There's no
more flooding of the backyard of the property and there's no more flooding of the neighbor's backyard.
It's 100% completely solved and I did it at my own expense. For that, I was vilified and attacked.
That's sad.
And I think they, at some point,
I think there was legal action taken.
There was.
Right, I remember.
I remember having to kind of navigate that
and thinking to myself,
but this is the epitome of no good deed goes unpunished.
And Mark, who has walked those streets for all these years,
for the first time,
does not have to walk through a man-made lake
at the bottom of those two streets.
By the way,
the neighbor who's directly across the street
has applauded you,
the guy on the north side of the street, has applauded you. The guy on the north side of the street has applauded you for this ingenuity
because he had complained bitterly.
It got nowhere.
Right.
But the city and the way the city works is I did something without asking their permission.
Now, it also the city needs to understand that the reason most people or many people
bootleg many things is because if I went to the city and said, hey, here's what I'd like
your blessing on, we'd still be arguing about it today.
So I just went ahead and did it.
Yeah, and people would, there'd be flooding, there'd be accidents,
the whole bit, just wild.
All right, let me tell you about Shopify.

So, um, here's a question for you speaking of Hunter Biden.
Why is
when 51
former FBI, CIA, and intelligence analysts
all signed a document saying that Hunter Bynes' laptop
had all the earmarks of Russian collusion,
when in fact the FBI or the CIA had the laptop
and knew that was false,
why is that not election interference?
Well, it's very interesting because the more I get into this case, and we should, we could do a whole episode on this shortly, but not right now, because he's pending two criminal cases in June
as we take this. I'm not so sure that that laptop is where they say it is, and I'll leave it at that.
There is a backstory to that that we have developed during the investigation of this
action that we're taking.
I'll leave it at that.
I wish I could say more because it's fascinating to me. And
there is a certain irony to the 51 intelligence agents and then saying it at first, then being discredited and now looking like there may be something there. I mean, this will be fully
developed, I believe, in a matter of months. Really?
Yeah.
And I, you know, the election interference kind of mantra, and this goes back to what
we were discussing in the previous episode, you know, the election interference in my prediction going forward is that this Trump trial, and
I said it, I think in the last episode, picking out of eight years since this 2016 episode,
and when you indict somebody and when you put them on trial trial and you pick out of that, whatever, eight times 365 days is,
you pick it in the lead up to the presidential election, you can make a pretty good argument
that that is election interference. And I know that's blasphemy in the bubble in which I exist.
bubble in which I exist, right? Mm-hmm, but something I want to get your head on real quick
before we wrap it is Stormy Daniels took the stand
a few days ago and she was just sort of walking through
the process of meeting Trump and heading back up to the room
and what he was wearing and stuff like that.
Does that feel relevant to what this case is?
And-
I've got so much to say about the relevance of this.
Let's do it on the next episode because I will go,
I will also tell you that they are trying,
they being the defense.
And he's got a couple of great lawyers,
Susan Nicholas, who I've met a couple of times
and I have great respect for, Todd Blanch,
who's by all accounts a top flight litigator.
They are not, they're never gonna admit this,
and just as I would never admit it,
they're not looking for an acquittal.
They're looking for a hung jury.
They are trying this case on the basis of,
can we get a hung jury?
There is a shot, they have a shot.
And we'll talk about it on the next episode.
It's the jury selection, and I'll talk about that.
All right, you can go to adamcorolla.com
for all my live shows, Vegas and Irvine
and head into, God, where is it?
Timonium, which is a weird place,
it's outside of Baltimore.
New York and Eugene, Oregon,
and just go to adamcorolla.com.
Where are you in New York?
I'll be at governor's and
That'll be June 28th and 29th
Jake's birthday. We're gonna have to take him there for his birthday the 29th. Oh really?
In New York, absolutely. Oh, so you guys gonna be in New York? Yeah, I'll be in New York. We're come come to the show
Absolutely, right? I have to talk to August and you gotta talk to August to see what kind of mood he's in
You fly him out there he'll
What do you got mark oh? Oh, go to reasonabledoubt.com.
We still do it.
We're waiting for Adam to return.
Someday, Adam and I will tell you the whole backstory, but not now.
And also, if you're in Palm Springs, go by Gigi's at the V Hotel.
If you're in San Clemente, go by Constantropic Hollow and try Pearside Restaurant.
So until next time, Adam Pearl for off from Mark Garagas saying,
