Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey everybody, John Stewart here. I am here to tell you about my new podcast, the weekly show. It's going to be coming out every Thursday. So exciting. You'll be saying to yourself, TGID. Thank God it's Thursday. We're going to be talking about all the things that hopefully obsess you in the same way that they obsess me. The election. Economics. Earnings calls. What are they talking about on these earnings calls? We're going to be talking about ingredient to bread ratio on sandwiches. And I know that I listed that fourth, but in importance it's probably second. I know you have a lot of options as far as podcasts go, but how many of them come out on Thursday?
Starting point is 00:00:50 I mean, talk about innovative. Listen to the weekly show with John Stewart, wherever you get your podcast. You're listening to Comedy Central. All right. All right. It's all good. It's all good. Come on.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Four, three, two. Hey, ears edition listeners. This is Jubin Perang, co-executive producer and writer for the Daily Show. We are so happy to be back on the air with new episodes of the Daily Show and we have a special treat. Today I am joined by Daily Showrunner, writer and executive producer sitting right next to me, Jen Flans. Hey Jen, how you doing? Hi, how you doing? Yes, clap, clap, clap, clap. Who is that clapping? Well you'll be delighted to know. Zubin, your hosting skills in only nine years have improved. I don't know if you've gone to some type of adult learning center for the kinds of hosting skills that you're performing right now, but they've taken a leap forward that I I enjoy very much. Thank you I have. I've been to several boot camps to learn how to hold 24 hours. Wait, they have a they have a
Starting point is 00:02:32 podcast boot camp. They do. They do. You have to spend six months speaking into a microphone. Wow. You do a lot of push-up for some reason. And then at the end of it, you have to successfully sell a Casper mattress or else you were never heard from again. Can I tell you something? That would make a really great podcast. Someone should do. Like try to sell something to someone on the air? That's a good idea.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Someone should do a six month boot camp podcast. Maddow. I love it. I'm sure there's already like six Bushwick guys who are doing that podcast separately. There's a lot of podcasts. John's not really in our podcast studio. No, John, you are watching. But you can see how nice it is.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Yeah. Can I tell you something? It does look like definitely one of the places that they thought they might shoot between two Ferns but then decided, hmm. It was an honor just to be th. to be th. to be th. to be th. to be th. to be th. to be th. th. to be th. th. th. to be th. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. th. tho. tho. tho. tho. thathe. thathea. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's th. It's th. It's th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thought they might shoot between two ferns, but then decided, it was an honor just to be there though, to be in that conversation. You were definitely in, when they showed the three pictures to Zach Alphan Agass and said, what about this? And he went, it's close. It's close. Close. Close. But it may be missing one fern. And that's fair. If thi were just two people th. th. thi, it were just thi. thi. thi, it was just thi. thi. thi, it was just thi. thi, it was just thi, it was just thi, it was just thi, it was just thi, it was just thi, it was just thi, it was just thi, it was thi, it was thi, it was thi, it was thi, it was to be to be to be to be to be to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. It's thi. It's thi. It that's fair. It was our mistake. If this were just two people around a fern, we could shoot that. I don't think it's right for between two ferns.
Starting point is 00:03:50 That was our mistake to put one fern in the room for between two ferns. I, one of us should have said something about it. Where is that in the building? Is it in the room that you're in is the room. It was like props. I edited Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, the movie. Yeah, it was the it was your edit That's where we edited Rosewater. Yeah, was in that. My god, remember that? There's a plaque here in the room very much. It says rosewater was edited here. Yeah, that's right. And by the way. It must be annoying. It must the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the movie. It must the movie. It must the the movie. It must the the the the movie. It must the movie. It must the movie. It must the movie. It must the movie. It must the movie. It must the movie. It must the movie. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must. It must the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the movie. Because it is very similar to like the Lord of the Rings tourism where people, there's a whole rosewater movie tourist industry where they come in and they're... Well that's why we put the plaque up, but we didn't want to like, you know. I mean, I will say a lot of my Iranian relatives would visit for that Rosewater I will say that. Yes, no it was, it, it, it, it, it, it, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thus, they th, they they they tho, thus, tho, they they they're tho, they're they're they're they're they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thoooo, thooooooo, thoooooooooooooooooooo, thoo, tho, tho, th, Yes, no, it was a huge bootleg success.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Lots of my cousins at VHS. In Iranian communities, it was a huge bootleg success. That's for sure. John, let's just get right into this. All right, we've dicked around enough. You've been back in the building for a few weeks now. The question is that the mind John Stewart is back. What do you make of the snacks? There used to be potato chips? There's now a lot of veggie sticks. If people don't know, no, but it's not just veggie sticks, Juven. Don't sell the place short. There's popcorn. That's true. But people don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:16 What Trevor did not only was bring his own flare and intelligence and wit to the Daily Show. He apparently has a design sense. flare and intelligence and wit to the Daily Show. He apparently has a design sense. Like I did not know, I was there for 16 years. I did not know we were allowed to make the building and the office look nice. Yes, that was a big innovation on Trevor's part. Yes. He did walk in and he was like, are we allowed to? I had no idea. There's like tile flooring and there's steel-framed window panes that slide and open up into kind of a coffee bar area.
Starting point is 00:05:55 And when we were there, it was designed in plebeian chic. Yeah, I believe you would call it. It looked like a bureaucratic and administrative satirical movie about what it was like to work in a bureaucratic nightclub. It did, it was like Trevor did, when he came in, did have this idea of like, what if we had an office that that did not make people sad when you walked in? That did not... I didn't know we were allowed to do that. And by the way, we weren't sad, so we didn't know. I was like, oh, we're having a good time.
Starting point is 00:06:30 He's like, but it could look nicer. All right. I think you'll also be, you know, happy to see that we have had, what used to be, I think just one one, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, of potato chip has now been replaced by just endless organic gummies. Yes. That's so I mean the snack game now to be fair advances in snacking over nine years you are living in a different universe. It's really not fair to compare it. It's not. When I was there the only snacks that were available to people, and obviously this was years ago, were crackers salted and unsalted. And those were the only snacks that were made. And then there was an explosion in ingenuity and in snack technology.
Starting point is 00:07:18 And when I look, and you got, here's what people don't know. So do you know those racks? Yeah, if you were to go to a CVS and they have that one little rat, it, th, th, th, th, th, that, that, th, that, th, that, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, that, th, th, th, th, th, that, that, that, that, thrack, thrack, thrack, thrack, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they. Crackers, they, they, they. Crackers, they, they, crackers, they, their, their, they, you got, here's what people don't know. So do you know those racks? Yeah. If you were to go to a CVS and they have that one little rat, it's like a tree, a beautiful Christmas tree that you can hang snacks on? It makes the snacks even more appealing when they're hanging on that tree. So my question to you guys is, who stole it from a convenience storm?
Starting point is 00:07:47 guys is who stole it from a convenience storm and and is it a wanted snack treat? It is I don't think we should talk about that here no because no that would be maybe one of us had something. Jen Flans you know I remember you when you were in a company woman I remember you when you would speak truth to power I'm just try to stayto stay out of, you know, trouble so I could produce the show for you. Okay. Not to be too real, but I think the, that snack tree is also a way to, to get around mice. I know, I was just gonna say it. I know, I was gonna say it. then I'm like, should I give away the to. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to. to. to. to. to. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. this. this. this. this. this. the show. this. the show. the show. the show. the show. the show. the show. the show. the show. the show. the show. the show. the the the show. the the the the the the show. the the the the the the to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to Do you remember hot dog? Was hot dog a mouse? Oh, guys.
Starting point is 00:08:25 No, I don't know who I tell you. You don't remember, that's one of Maggie's favorite stories about the Daily Show. So we were doing a bit one night where we needed to get a mouse. And we got somebody scored, they went down to the pet store and they got a bait mouse. Yeah, like a little feeder mouse. That was about to be prey. And, and thage, and when, and when, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the th, th, th, th, th, thaguuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu- to, to, to to to, to to to to to to to to to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th, to th. Do, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thoomuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. to Yeah, like a little feeder mouth. That was about to be prey. And when Maggie got wind of it, she promised me that we would keep him safe. And so we had to build a terrarium.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Yes. She named him Hot Dog. And I don't know if you remember, she made that big folder of all the care of hot dog. And she brought it in. I remember that. Oh my god. What happened to a hot dog? I know the answer. Okay, he lived to be a hundred and three. Oh my god. Wow, all they mean is just a little bit. Oh in mouse. No, what happened Hot Dog was, he became a brilliant French chef and moved. And lived in Paris, apparently under a different name, and became quite well renowned. Oh, good for him. Good for him. I'm glad. I thought you were going to tell me he died. What? No, no, no, no, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:09:42 And by the way, if Maggie comes to the show to visit, you will tell her. No, yes. He moved to France to be a chef. That was the story that I told her. He's out of farm in France. That's right. John, let me ask you something else. You know, John, the media. Why do you keep saying my name? I feel like you're setting me up for something terrible. It's that kind of stuff when you say something over and over, get to remember what the name is? Jubin?
Starting point is 00:10:12 John, John, John, John, John, John, John, John. The media has changed so much. I have noticed you haven't said my name. Chief, let me ask you a question. Jen? Jen? Jeubin? I, Jubin. I'm asking you guys. About all the changes that have happened here, you know, all the changes. There have been a lot of changes. There's been differences.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Not so many. But Jen, you've successfully navigated this show through many, many, many eras of the daily show. so many. So many. John, Trevor, I believe 250 guest hosts in the intervening years. I was here with Craig. You were here with Craig. I saw John walk in the door. Jen Flans was there when I got there. It was.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Jen, were you, at that time you were a PA, yes? I was an assistant production coordinator and I sat right behind reception. Yes. And I remember when you walked in, you were the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their to to to to to to criqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq. to c. to c. to c. I was to c. I was to c. I was to c. Yes! And before the conference room. And I remember when you walked in, you were like, in your leather jacket, and I was like, this is gonna be cool. And he said, hi to everyone. And John, you asked me my name and not to disparage anyone. I don't think Craig knew my name.
Starting point is 00:11:19 And I was so excited. And you are, I said, Jen. I was like, I th, I that that that that that that that that that that that that that th th that's that's th that's th th that's like, I love th th th th th th th th th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I remember, I th. I remember, I remember, I th. I th. I th. I remember, I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I remember, I th. I remember, I th. I remember, I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I remember, I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thii. th. to thii. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I remember, thi. I remember, th. I said, Jen, I said, Jen, awesome. It's like, this is great. I love how you're the one person who was always fooled by a leather jacket, no matter who I'm like, you're going to be cool. I was in a leather jacket and I didn't say what's your name, I said, hey. Oh, what's your name? He's like, boom. You learned everyone's name pretty quickly, which I thought was so impressive.
Starting point is 00:11:48 It's the one thing I have control. Everything else is, you just, but anyway. It's funny how hard that is now. Like, in the old days I used to be able to do that pretty easily and now I made Jen give a, um, a Facebook. Yeah, it's like a list of everybody that's there and I like sit and I like point at the But even that's like for my brain is not as elastic so it's stuff. So everybody has a mind.
Starting point is 00:12:11 We got a lot of people here. We have more people than we did. I'm calling everybody Jen. It's just hoping that I'll tell you. It's good to ask you. What? You know, John, the media landscape has changed so much. When you left the show, there was no TikTok, now there's TikTok, now there's Tick Tock, there's a podcast, now they've blown up, there's YouTube. There's so much places to get misinformation.
Starting point is 00:12:36 And I'm wondering, John, where you get your misinformation? When I started at the Daily Show, there was only two ways to get information. The streets? Uh, what are the streets saying? The streets? You would go out on the streets and say, Can someone tell me what a dirty Sanchez is? Somebody just said that? Does anyone know?
Starting point is 00:13:04 They would say, come over here. And the other was, you had to wait for them to make a pamphlet from a printing press. So these were the only two ways that you could gather information. It's relentless now. I thought it was relentless when I left. Right. It's, it's geometrically past the moment. It's, uh, it's relentless now. It's relentless. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's relentless. It's rel relet's rel the the the the the the the the the the their. It's relet's relet's relet's relet's relet's relet's relet's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relentless. It's relet's relet's relet's relet's relentless. It's relentless when I left. Right. It's geometrically past the moment, and as I think the great Maria Ressa says, a lie travels 10 times or 6 times or 7 times faster around the world than the truth, I think it's a much more dire situation, but at least none of these social media entities have monetized that idea and incentivized misinformation because that would truly be dangerous. I'm really glad that they fight it so vigorously. Yeah. I, actually, I know somebody who, who was a content moderator on Facebook, who was one of the
Starting point is 00:14:04 people who had to like go through all of the, you know, it's a really terrible paying job. How can you make an individual do that? That seems like an impossible test. Brutal. They were there for like two or three days and they're like the amount of hideousness that you see. People just like very casually posting up just like video know, videos of murders, videos of brutal things that they are just putting up just to see if
Starting point is 00:14:28 it sticks, but someone's got to go through that and take that down and that's generally, you know, all the AI is being used instead to find out how to like, you know, right? To steal music and to and to write things instead of you know thi that, so, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, you thi, you thi, thi, you thi, you're thi, you thi, you thi, you thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. they're just just just, thi. they're they're thi. they're just just, they're thi. they're just just, thi. thi. thi, th'll be happy to know they don't pay very well. Oh, well then they are addressing it. I mean, I know how brutal like, all I need to do is like, you know, announce a tour date and it's only like two comments in before everybody's like, you know, you're like, oh, that's, all right, that seems weird. But they go at it, man. And let's ask a question here. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. So, th. So, th. So, that's, that. So, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. they they are, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, all right, that seems weird. True, true. But they go at it, man. Let's ask a question here. All right. Specifically about, you know, John, you're back to cover this election,
Starting point is 00:15:11 2024. What is it about this election that you are most eager to take on? Because I personally don't know what much there is to satirize. The candidates are very of sound mind, the media seems prepared to root all the issues. I think the word eager is the one that I find so interesting. Sure, you can you can reject that. For me, it's not just about the election, it's if you want to be present in this world, you have to be present in this conversation and you have to be as relentless and tenacious as the counter narrative that's being formed through, you know, so much of the
Starting point is 00:15:59 information that we see now is weaponized by all different and it keeps taking exponential leaps, which is what, you know, it's not just the election, it's AI, it's the way that we've militarized all our conflict. Like, it all ties together to, I think, this one larger idea, which is the form of government that we cherish so much is really an analog, I don't want to say dinosaur, but it is analog, and the world now moves at an increasingly, infinitely digital pace. And reconciling those two things I think is the challenge of the moment for people and I'm excited To be with you guys again and the best fucking news team and to just be a part of that conversation because I think you have to
Starting point is 00:17:02 register your thought and complaint so that it can be referenced. Because remember, AI is now the sum total of all that we do. AI really is an information laundering system, a vacuum that takes up all the pieces of human information and then spits some back out in a sort of reconstituted form. If you want this world of the future to be informed but what you think is the right part of the present, you have to register. You have to get it out there. Yeah, if only, if not to change the direction of the conversation, at the very least, so that when aliens come to the smoldering ruins of mankind, they can see something that was like,
Starting point is 00:17:49 well, someone had a different idea for how this should have been for gone. Yes. That makes a sense. Thank you, Juven. You also... That was much more succinct and much more on point. Well, that's why I'm the host of this podcast. What's what? that's? That's? That's? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? That was? Today, in this one episode. In this one episode. Hey, everybody, John Stewart here. I am here to tell you about my new podcast, the weekly show. It's going to be coming out every Thursday. So exciting. You'll be saying to yourself, TGID. Thank God it's Thursday. We're going to be talking about all the things that hopefully obsess you in the same way that they obsess me, the election, economics, earnings calls.
Starting point is 00:18:34 What are they talking about on these earnings calls? We're going to be talking about ingredient to bread ratio on sandwiches. And I know that I listed that fourth, but in importance, it's probably second. I know you have a lot of options as far as podcasts go, but how many of them come out on Thursday? I mean, talk about innovative. Listen to the weekly show with John Stewart, wherever you get your podcast. Hey, what's up guys?
Starting point is 00:19:12 Hey, everybody's all cleaned off. Look at that! The old suit on. It still fits! It still fits! John, let me ask you a question. You'll be working with a lot of our correspondence. You know Jordan Clepper obviously, you are at the show while he was the show while you were host. I don't. Oh, you mean Jen.
Starting point is 00:19:33 Oh, you mean Jen. No, Jordan is close. It's close. There's a lot of Jays. A lot of Jays around the building. You look, tall J-J-I's. I, you, you, you, the the the the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the th, tho, th, th, th, you're th, you're th, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you, you, you, you, you, you, you the the the, you the the th. the th. th. th. th, you th, you th, you th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho. thoa. tho-a. thoa. tho. tho. tho. tho. the. the. th We look tall. Tall tall. Yes. Exactly the same. Yes. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:46 It's easy to. No. Jordan is the man. And I, for the moment he walked in the door, by the way, like he was just one of those dudes that. Because you remember how a lot of times times times, times, times, times, the times, times, times, times, times, the, times, times, the, times, the, times, the, times, the, the, times, the, times, the, the, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, the, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the a, the a, the a, the a, the a, tttthe a, ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttta, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, today, today, today, t job. Just the weird logistics of, you know, what news people work on through, you know, communications go, that, John? Yes, and turning the camera and making your,
Starting point is 00:20:12 like there's a mechanical part of this job that it does take most performers who are not familiar with that, some uptick in learning curve. Jordan was just like, is this my camera? Boom! Like, he just, he knew all the roots, man, right off the brain. Right, yeah, his audition, we were like, I remember John came back. He goes, yeah, yeah, we should. Yeah, hire that guy. What we're saying here is Jordan is very good at faking authenticity is what we're saying, and I with that. He is. There are other correspondents though you haven't worked with Desi, Ronnie, Costa, Doolsay. What so far you've seen, you haven't seen much of them but so far as you go in,
Starting point is 00:20:50 what do you think their weaknesses seem to be? Mostly if I could be frank, health? Yes, it seems like a very, there's a lot of, and I don't want to say say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say. to say. And I to say to say to say, to say to say, to say, to say, to say, to say, to say, to say, to say, you, you, you, you, you to say, you their, you're their, you, you, you're their, you're their, you're they, you're they, you're they, you're they, you're they, you they, you they, you they, you they, you they, you they, you they, you they, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, to say, to say, to say, to say, to say, to say, to, to, to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. to thi. to thi. to, so so so, so, so, we keep events unclean and I think that's part of the reason. Yeah, air vents. Now, whatever's happening looks to be the precursor to what happened in the last of us. It could be a type of mold, a macellium, but what's really interesting about it, because we've always talked about this is finding correspondence for the show is a really arduous thing because it's a very rare individual that has the skill set. It's so many. They have to be a Swiss Army knife, but like a five-tool player at all times.
Starting point is 00:21:40 And so for you guys to be able to restto restock in that way is is very impressive. Yeah, I mean Joss and I watch so many people that... Poor Jossie. Yeah, that he... She was she was on tape patrol back when I was here. Oh, we left us. We're still on tape patrol. Yeah, yeah. It's like when we found Costa's tape we were like, We got what? You know, we're like Ghostbusters, antipods, like feeling in that room. It is like, you're like, oh my god, we found it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Yeah. I remember Trevor's. Yes. You put Trevor's tape in and it was and wasn't even a correspondent. I watched it for like 10 seconds and I was like, that dude could do my job. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that. that. that. th. that. that. th. th. th. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. th. the. the. the. theat. theat. teat. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. thea. thea. the. dude could do my job. Literally he said that. I've told this story before but you said it, you left the room, he didn't watch his whole, it was like a letter Mincet. I didn't watch the whole thing. He didn't even watch the whole thing. I just go, that leaving? And we got so worried and upset. And then we were like, I mean, and then the story goes on from there. But it was like, yeah, when you find a good one,
Starting point is 00:22:51 you're just like, oh, that's it. It's self-evident. It's so great. They're so great. Jessica Williams. I watched Jessica Williams today. And it was one of th, Jessica, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, th, th, th. thi, thi, the, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I was, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th......... th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. And, and, and, and by like an agent like it was one of those who were like, is that filmed in someone's kitchen? Like what is happening? Do you remember we plucked her from her parents basement I always said? Yes. She was like a, she was like a person like just doesn't a little bit of like that, that's supernova energy like just doesn't come around that often? Yeah. And so whenever we'd find somebody like, they're thi. that's like like like like like like like like like like like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, is like, is like, is like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that, that, is that, that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, like, like, like, like, like, like around that often. Yeah. And so whenever we'd find somebody like that, we were always like, we are going to lose them to S&L. Immediately.
Starting point is 00:23:27 No question. Michael Che, remember when Jay? Michael Jay was here for three weeks. I always say you, I was so happy that you did your on-camera internship, the summer internship with us for three months. That's so funny. Yeah, he's so, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, he's so, the, the, the, the, yeah, the, yeah, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th, the, th, th, the, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to. Yeah, to. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. I. th. Yeah, th. I. I, to. to. I, to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. that talent that you're like, oh, this is undeniable. Undeniable. But yeah, these, I mean, Desi, like, they're all just so tall. I think what I'm really looking forward to this year is just is also them taking turns being in the check. As each of them bring their own voice and their own perspective that I think it's going to be really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast contrast Whoa, whoa. Well, you're gonna, you're gonna keep doing the show even not on Monday?
Starting point is 00:24:06 I thought this was, well, I thought we talked about this. No, we did, but Monday. With you, Monday. Monday, yeah. Take a nap and then. Paramount likes us. Yes. To deliver multiple shows a week and,
Starting point is 00:24:19 Well, that, theyreau doing yeah well that's a thing though right because so you don't have to but just in order to keep the office ratings up that you know the bracket our show we got to have something on there you know so I didn't realize yeah so they're gonna they're gonna step in I mean I'm really sorry that you're gonna have to be working like that And it was, it's just like I'm like so psyched to see them at the desk. But that was part of the thought. And Jen and I had talked about this. You know, one of the things that, you know, the guest hosting thing, it was really fun. there was a th th tho tho tho th tho th. It was a tho th. It was really th. It was really th. It was really th. It was really thi thi. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really really thi. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really. It was really. It was really. It was really. It was really. It was really. It was really. It was really. It was really. It was really. It was really th. It was really th. It was really th. It was really th. It was really th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It was really thi. It was really thi. It was really fun. It was really fun. It was really fun. It was really fun. It was really fun. It was really fun. It was really fun. It was really fun. It was really fun. It was really fun. It was really th. It was a that is central as a point of view show, you are asking the staff to create a completely different show every week with a different point of view. And it's a really difficult ask, and I think part of this reset that was part of it was, let's
Starting point is 00:25:21 let the correspondence take that role and the stat and everybody can sort of calibrate around that sensibility. And I think it's gonna be really exciting to see what they do with it. We've been writing for their voices for so long and they're all friends, you know. Boy, John, I wish you had been actually, the, in that guess was error, where like every week the guests and their point of view would
Starting point is 00:25:44 the in that guess-so's era where like every week the guests and their point of view would like wildly change how I would have to explain just by looking at the writers in the room that that point of view was not going to fly this week so they would say something I'd be like good the next week they say something I just be staring them like right just try to look while they guess host I tole I told you guys that and the next week you're like Ukraine you're like you're the only thing standing between us and barbarism yeah it was there was that was hard lot a lot of weapon but high-degree difficulty for a show like you guys earned your your stripes on that like that's a very high degree of difficulty I think we we had some fun people come through that we earned our organic Yeah I we're the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they are are are the the the the the the the the the the the they. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their they. are are are are are are are are are are are are are are are are are are are are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are the the th are the are the are the are the are the are the are the are the the the the the the the the the the they. the the the are the is that. Like that's a very high degree of difficulty. I think we had some fun people come through them. We earned our organic gummies, I think for this.
Starting point is 00:26:26 I mean, we're the heroes. We are the heroes. Leslie Jones, like, Leslie Jones, like, the energy that she brought and the perspective, like, just great. We laughed so much. We laughed so fun. Marlin was such a good time and and just fun to work with and the respect that they had for the show and the desk because of you and Trevor it's like they were so excited to do the show is really cool. Oh that's nice. They're like oh I can't believe I'm doing the daily show.
Starting point is 00:26:54 I can't believe he got a new desk. I walked Trevor is deceivingly tall. Yes. Deceivingly tall. He doesn't seem, he seems like average. And explicitly handsome. And I don't care for that. Actually, we're getting another, you know, another dude desk. Wow, you were talking to accommodate. You know what I started thinking, can I? You just dropped a bombshell? I was like, am I allowed to say this? By the way I'm I to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say this. to say this. this. to say to say this. to say? to say? to say, to say, to say, this? this. th. th. th. th. th. hea? He hea? He hea? He hea? He hea. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. I was. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. th. He. He. th. He. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. t. t. t. t. tell. t. t. th. th. th. the? By the way, I'm like, we're in charge, but am I allowed to say this? I don't know. Anyway, it'll be new and accommodate co-hosts because we had a lot of fun when we did that the Jordan-Desi show and the Jordan-Yeah, I like the idea of trying out. Yeah, I like want to talk to a few people, our desk currently doesn't really accommodate that.
Starting point is 00:27:46 So the only thing that because I don't have the center of gravity by the, of having my feet like more firmly on the ground, that's a pretty slick plywood that goes beneath that thing. And I'm hoping that we at least put, because I don't know if you remember, like like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, to to to to to to to to to to to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to, the to, to, to, to, to, to, to know. He slide too fast out of the yes. He went to slide back and I don't think you realize like no break. Yeah and it's and the desk is on a platform so it would I think I think our stage manager might have saved his life. Oh my god. Yeah a hero. But yeah there have been multiple guests over the years that almost fly off the platform. And um. That's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's. It's. Yeah. Yeah. It's. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There there. There there. There there. There there. There have there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there have there there there there there. There have there. There have the guests over the years that almost fly off the world. And um... That's the fun of it. What a way to go.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Honestly, go big or go homes. That is like, they wake up in a hospital. What happened? You were plugging your movie. You had just thrown to a clip and then... It was it Anyway, yeah, we'll watch for that with the new desk. Yeah, we'll check out Maybe we'll just do a chair with no wheels. I mean just yeah, we'll say you know just some
Starting point is 00:28:55 Just get some double-sided scotch tape on there. That'll solve the problem too you do a You do a joke when you're talking to me, writing, producing, dressing the set, fixing the wheels. It's a grind, it's a grind. No stop at aging six days for every day. That's the important thing. Well, look, guys, we are so excited to be back on the air and to tackle all the issues and just fun characters and and goose and gaps. They're going to be happening this election season. Let me actually John before we let you go what is what's what's what's a what are you most excited for the
Starting point is 00:29:29 viewers to tune in for this this upcoming year. I'm excited for the audience to experience that split second of vertigo. That's going to happen when they see a familiar name in a familiar setting with a completely different face and head. And I'm excited to see them go, wait, is that also happening to me? Because that would be weird. If he's older, that must mean I'm older. How fast does this accelerator? This gentleman is heading to the event horizon.
Starting point is 00:30:09 What is going on here? I'm sure that's why everyone will be watching. Yes, everyone's going to be watching. It's going to be awesome. Yeah, I'm going to be fantastic. For the years addition, I am a Jube Mparence, joined by Jen Flans and the John Stewart. What's that? Bye-bye.
