Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to Comedy Central. Hey, everybody, John Stewart here. I am here to tell you about my new podcast, The Weekly Show, coming out every Thursday. We're going to be talking about the election earnings calls. What are they talking about on these earnings calls? We're going to be talking about ingredient-to-bread ratio on sandwiches. I know you have a lot of options as far as podcasts go, but how many of them come out on Thursday. Listen to the weekly show with John Stewart wherever
Starting point is 00:00:31 you get your podcast. August 16, 2018. From Comedy Central's World News headquarters in New York. This is the Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Our guest tonight, our guest tonight, comedian D.L. Hugley is joining us everybody. We'll talk about his new book, How Not to Get Shot, and Other Advice from White People. It's a fun summer beach read. But first, let's catch up on today's headlines. Apple has already today's headlines. Apple has already taken over the market for computers and phones. And now, they're getting ready to hit the road.
Starting point is 00:01:33 A well-connected analyst says the Apple car will roll out between 2023 and 2025. That analyst saying he expects the car to be Apple's next star product, which could revolutionize the auto industry, just like the iPhone did expects the car to be Apple's next star product, which could revolutionize the auto industry, just like the iPhone did for the smartphone market. No comment from Apple, of course, about those predictions. Okay, um... That's just a giant iPhone with wheels. And I don't know if I want to be driving an iPhone.
Starting point is 00:02:01 I'll be like, Siri, turn left. You said, drive off a cliff. No! No! No! And now, like with all Apple products, I'm sure that people will love this car until it starts raining, and then the car stops working. And you're going to have to put it in rice.
Starting point is 00:02:16 It's a whole thing that happens. You know the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst the worst th is is, th is, th is, th is, th is, thi is, thi is, thi is, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, tho. tho. tho. tho. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. the thi. the the the thi. the the th. the th. th. thi. thi. th. thi. thi. to. to. thi. thi.the backseat. He's gonna be like, I just need a ride to the Edger's house. In other news, another setback for the Pillsbury testosterone boy, Alex Jones. A week after several tech giants removed talk show host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones from their platforms, Twitter is suspending his ability to tweet for a week. People need to have their. to to to to to to to to to to their. to to their. to to their. their. to be their. to be their. to be to be to be their. to be to be. their. to be. to be. to be. their. their. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. People need to have their battle rifles and everything ready, their bedsides, and you've got to be ready. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey told me why his company is now taking action. I believe we put him in a timeout, removing his ability to tweet for a time period. Honestly, a Twitter timeout, it doesn't sound so bad. I feel like in 2018, being off Twitter being off tweeffiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii their thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to to to to to to to be tooom-a to to be to be to be to be to be to be tooom to be to be to be to to told to told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told told too. too. too. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. too. tf. tf. tf. tf. tf. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too., right? If Twitter really wants to punish someone, they'd force them to stay on Twitter and read
Starting point is 00:03:08 all of their mentions. That should be the punishment. He's like, all I said was go giants and 10 people told me to kill myself. Oh, and finally, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is in the middle of a re-election campaign. So yesterday, in a speech, he decided to score some points by denouncing President Trump and he may have gone a little too far. The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, he shocked the crowd when he revoked the President's Make America Great Again, and the crowd gasped. Listen to this. We're not going to make America great again. It was never that great. Okay, uh, Democrats, here's a tip. The opposite of Trump isn't automatically a good thing.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Can I be like, unlike our president, I would never grab a woman by the pussy because I grab man by the dick. Yeah, did I win? Did I win? Did I? Did I? Did I? And you know what? And you know what? I just want to say something. Yes, maybe America is having a tough time. But how can you say America was never that great? This is the country that uses fried chicken as brand. This is the country that invented slash stole the macarena. This is the country that made multiple TV shows just about catching cheetahs and the country that survived five
Starting point is 00:04:31 shocknados. If that isn't greatness, I don't know what is. Let's move on, it's our top story. Earlier this week, the Justice Department fired senior FBI agent and stock photo of a senior FBI agent, Peter Strzok. Now this came after revelations that he had exchanged text messages critical of Donald Trump while also investigating Donald Trump during the 2016 elections. And losing your job is never easy. But it looks like Struck is going to land on his feet. The FBI agent fired by the Bureau is receiving a lot of support. We have learned thousands of people are chipping in to help to help to help to help to help to help to help to help to help to help to help to help the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their their tho-s of their their tho-s of thoe of their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their. their. their. their. their. thi. thi. thi. thi.c.s.e.e.s.e.e.e.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s.s. te. his feet. The FBI 18 fired by the Bureau is receiving a lot of support.
Starting point is 00:05:06 We have learned thousands of people are chipping in to help Peter Struck cover his legal bills. After news of his firing broke a go-fund me page was set up and it's raised hundreds of thousands. The original target was a hundred fifty thousand. the original target was raised againto $350,000. When that target was hit, it was raised again to half a million. Okay, okay, first up, this is some bullshit we need to address about go fund me's in general. How do people say this is the amount I need and then change the amount when they get it? That's not a thing. Like, imagine you met someone in the street and they're like okay here here here he's $50. He's like oh now that I've reached $50 I now need $100. I now need $100
Starting point is 00:05:45 to go see my family. He's like what the fuck are you doing man? He's $100. Okay now I need $150 you be like thrown. Because seriously half a million dollars on a go fund me just for hating Donald Trump. There's cancer Patients on that side that are like hey, they're th, hey, hey, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thu, thu, thu, thu, tho, tho, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thu. tho' tho' to to tho' to to to thoooooooo' thoooo' thooo' tho' too. Can you pay for my treatment? It's like, no! You don't really hate him, we can tell. For more on what Strux's windfall says about Trump's presidency, we turn to senior political analysts. Michael Costa, everybody. their firtle. theypea, theypea, thrown. A fired FBI agent gets $500,000 from Go Fund Me people. How do you explain that?
Starting point is 00:06:27 Trevor, this doesn't surprise me. There's big bucks in hating on Donald Trump. In 2016, my nanna started knitting pussy hats. Two weeks ago, she bought a Ferrari. Trevor, what's the fastest growing sector of the economy? I think it would... Trump hating late night talk shows. You know how many there are right now?
Starting point is 00:06:48 17,000. Even Animal Planet has a political late night show. It's called Rough Night with Coco, she goes there. She's going to be tough to beat up the Ames, man. And now you've got guys like Peter Struck who aren't even making jokes or whatever it is you do. They just say, I hate Trump and the Resistance opened up its wallet faster than Johnny Depp at a scarf depot.
Starting point is 00:07:16 And it's not just Peter Struck who's raking in the resistance cash. Before him, Trump got Andrew McCabe fired as FBI deputy director, and that guy's Go Fund Me also pulled in half a million dollars. And I get it. People are desperate for anything that can hurt Trump even a little bit. But that's how scams work by praying on the most desperate. And you're a Nigerian prince, you understand. South Africa is not the same. Chever, people aren't really thinking about who they're giving their anti-Trump dollars to dollars. to dollars. to dollars. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to truism dollars. tru tru true. true. true. true. true. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their true. I. I. I. I's true. I's true. I's true. I's true. I's true. I's true. I's their their their their their their their, aren't really thinking about who they're giving their anti-Trump dollars to. Take James Comey. For a year, everyone is furious at that seven-foot freak for basically getting Trump elected. Then he writes a book saying he actually hates Trump, and the resistance starts making it rain.
Starting point is 00:08:01 I mean, he made more money than Johnny Depp's scarf dealer. I feel like you didn't work for that one. You... Yeah. I... Yeah. But I get what you're saying. I mean it's like it's like Omarosa. She was a gladiator for Trump and now she's swimming in cash for calling him unhinged. Yeah, you know who's still the master of this game? 2016 Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein. Her entire platform was, there's no difference between Clinton and Trump, then as soon as the election was over, she said, oh no, we can't let Trump win, give me money for a recount, and I'll save you from him.
Starting point is 00:08:37 She ended up collecting $7.3 million. You talk about the Green Party. And look, I understand. Sometimes you get so blinded by your revenge that you don't realize you're just playing yourself. My high school principal told me to stop acting up in class. So guess what? I stopped showing up to school entirely. I never graduated. Take that, Mr. Samuelson. didn't that produce some inadvertent negative ramifications? I don't even understand the words you just said. The point is, Trevor, I'm deeply concerned about how people are getting taken advantage of, which is why I've decided to help resist getting scammed.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I've set up a fundraising site, Cash for Costa.com. And I'm going to use the money people give me to stop all these grifters once and for all, because if I can just raise a hundred thousand dollars, I will be able to increase my goal to two hundred thousand dollars, which is halfway to four hundred 000. Fighting Trump, fighting Trump. Then I'll get to $500,000 and then, bam! Bam! I'll just need another $100,000.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Michael Crust, everyone. Get out of here, man. Get out of here. We'll be right back. Don't give it money. No. John Stewart here. Unbelievably exciting news. My new podcast, The Weekly Show.
Starting point is 00:10:07 We're going to be talking about the election, economics, ingredient to bread ratio, on sandwiches. Listen to the weekly show with John Stewart, wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back to the Daily Show. Today is a bit of sweet day for us here at the Daily Show. Wea. Wea.weekly thea. Wea.weekly thea. Wea. Wea. Wea. Wea. Wea. Wea th of sweet day for us here at the Daily Show, because today is the last day we get to see Hassan Minach. Yeah, apparently the Muslim band is far-reaching, way more far-reaching than we realized, so he's got to leave and never come back.
Starting point is 00:10:41 So ladies and gentlemen one last time, please welcome Hassan Menaz! Thanks! Thanks, Trevor. You know, Trev, I'm really going to miss this place. The friends, the laughs, the security guard who inspects your mouth with his bare fingers. We don't have a security guard who does that. Huh. I don't know who that was then. Well, either way, we're going to miss you too, man, but we're really happy for you. I know that you'll have your own show starting soon.
Starting point is 00:11:28 But, like, what's in store for Hassan Menage? Like, what are you doing for the rest of the summer? Any big plans? Well, my plan was to go see a bunch of movies starring Daily Show to The spy who dumped me with breakout star Hassan Menage, of course. Mama Mia Too, here we go again. And I know what you're probably thinking. Wait, Merrill Streep isn't on the Daily Show, but the truth is, she's been playing Roywood Jr. this entire time.
Starting point is 00:11:59 That's just how good she is. Wow. Now I'm not sure she should have used the n-word so often. That was intense. But now, my summer plans are ruined, Trevor, and I'll tell you why. Movie pass is burning to the ground. For frequent movie goers, the subscription service called Movie Pass seemed like a great deal. Pay just $10 a month to see a movie every single day.
Starting point is 00:12:21 But as its popularity surged, the company's finances took a hit. A lot of crises financial otherwise and bleeding a lot of cash. At one point, losing roughly $20 million a month. In a desperate attempt to stay in business, movie pass will now only allow users to see three movies in a month. Only three movies a month? This is horrible. Thanks to movie pass I was paying $10 a month for $500 worth of movie tickets.
Starting point is 00:12:48 I was going every single afternoon. Wait, like in the middle of the work day? Yeah, what did you think I was doing when I said I had all those doctor appointments? I thought you were seeing a doctor. Yeah, Doctor Strange. I've seen it 12 times. Now, Trevor, as a child of immigrants, movies have always been my way to connect to American culture. And more importantly, Indians love bargains. So now what am I going to do? Well, what do you could do now is you could just buy a ticket for a movie you
Starting point is 00:13:16 want to see like a normal person? Okay, okay, go buy a ticket. All right, Trevor. What are you going to tell me next? Get a ride by holding my hand in the air in the air in the air the air the air the air the air the air the air the air the air the air. the air. the air. the air. trived. t. t. trived. t. thea. trivian. tha. tha. tha. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. So, te. So, te. So, te. So, te. So, te. So, te. So, te. So, te. So, te. So, te. So, te. So, t. I I, te. I, te. I, te. I, te. I, te. I, te. I'm, te. I'm te. I'm te. I'ma. I'ma. I'm te. I'ma. I'ma. I'ma. I'ma. I'm te. I'm te. I'm you going to tell me next? Get a ride by holding my hand in the air? What is this? 2004? I only hold my hand in the air for one reason, and that's to high five a friendly ghost. Look, I get why you're upset, Hassan, but when you think about it, how is movie pass ever going to succeed as a business, right? It's $10 a culture. You pay a small fee and in exchange you get everything. Unlimited streaming from Netflix and Spotify. Unlimited shipping from Amazon Prime. Unlimited STDs from Tinder. It's how we live
Starting point is 00:13:55 right. Yeah, yeah, but the only way movie parts would have worked is if everyone subscribed, right? Then the people who don't use it as much would have subsidized the people who use it all the time. This is actually why Obamacare struggled, because young people didn't want to sign up, and then only older sick people were using the service. Oh, I get what you're saying. We need to combine movie pass in Obamacare. No, no, no, no, that's not. I read you louder theirs. I read that is that is that is that is I get it. I thage. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. Oh. Oh. th. th. th. Oh. th. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. th. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. th. Oh. Oh. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. ththat is an amazing idea. I get it. I get it. Okay, so young people get movies, old sick people get health care, we'll call it movie care. Or Obama Pass. I don't know, we're working on the title.
Starting point is 00:14:35 But just picture it. You're in the movie theater, right? You're watching, let's just say the spy who dumped me starring Hassanmenac. You're getting your popcorn on, you're getting your soda on, and now, thanks to Movie Pass, you're also getting a colonoscopy. You're welcome, Obama! Hassanminaj, everybody! One last time. We'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Welcome back to the Daily Show. My guest tonight is a comedian, host of the nationally syndicated radio show, the D.L. Hugley Show, and author of the new book, How Not to Get Shot and Other Advice from White People. Please welcome, D.L. Hugley. Very nice, Trevor, very nice. Welcome back to the show. Thank you, man, for having me. So good to have you here. You, interestingly, you were talking about Peter Strutt who raised half a million dollars.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Right. You know, the kid, the cop that shot Darren Wilson raised 1.2 million dollars? Right. You know, the kid, the cop raised 1.2 million dollars? the kid, the cop raised 1.2 million dollar. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. Very. Very. Very. Very. th. Very. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Very. th. Very. th. th. Very. th. Very. th. th. Very. th. th. th. Very. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Very. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. the. the. to. the. t. the. to. the. the. the. the. thi. the. thi. thi.2 million. Wait, the cop raised $1.2 million? For what? For killing, for killing Michael Brown. His Go Fund me made $1.2 million. Geez. So if you think, Hayden, Trump is bad. Hating a black dude is way more lucrative.
Starting point is 00:15:56 That's a perfect segue to get into this book. Because that's basically what this book is all about. How not to get shot and other advice from white people. Yeah. Where did the book come from? Well, I was on Megan Kelly's show. Remember when she was as Fox before she stopped being a racist and moved to NBC? Yeah. Ha ha ha ha ha. And we had this heated argument, you know, because there's never been, I think America
Starting point is 00:16:26 has never seen a young black man or woman killed by the police that were so appalled that were driven to action. And it was a very frustrating conversation rather than get frustrated, I just, I wrote a book about it. And you wrote the book from the perspective of somebody who's taking the advice that you've seen doled out by white people repeatedly after a shooting or after an incident. It's always advice on what black people are doing wrong. Well white people have been getting enough advice since we first got here so right. Right. You know I figure they're adept at it. But it's like when I hear these things like these nonsensical arguments like like white supremacist this we we want our country back like as I recall when you had the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. t. te. te. thi. thi. thi. the country to yourself, you invited us to the party. Like, we didn't, we didn't book a cruise here
Starting point is 00:17:08 because we heard they was hiring. Oh, yeah. Get on the boat, they're hiring in America. It's just, you know, people have these warped notions of what they would do, and if you would just cooperate, if you would, but I think that ultimately people just aren't comfortable, uncomfortable with black people or people of color being killed by the police. They just, I think they think that that's how it's supposed to go. No one likes to see a cow mutilated, but they don't mind even staying. Do you think that, I mean, that speaksized that as people, you know, both black and white, we have lost
Starting point is 00:17:49 a notion of what the value of a black person is, like to a certain extent. Like you know, we can say America ever had it. Oh, that's interesting. That's really, like, even now but the only time white people watch black people is if we're singing, dancing, running the football. Like that's, like, the other times, they're not going to pay particularly pay attention to us and I think nobody has more invested in black people being treated fairly than football players. Because if you're big, you're black, you're fast, you're strong, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, th and that's that's, thi. thi. thi. thi, that's, thi, that, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, their, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the they. And, the the they. And, they. the they. they. the the they. they. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi's, they's, they's, they's, they's, they's, they's not they's not they's not the. That's like you're in the wrong place. It's the reason they acquit.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Right, you had, you had an encounter with the police when you were what? Eight years old? Well, eight years old. That was your first encounter with the police. Yeah, I was eight years out. I grew up on 135th and I'm coming from, um, I'm coming from school getting a free lunch in the summer and the police pull up and they pull up to me and my friend and they're asking us a question about a cat that live in my neighborhood. And they're like, where is he? And we don't know, they'd like put your hands on the car.
Starting point is 00:18:51 And I said, sir, this car is hankoved and pying on it's hot. And he said, niggled. weeks ago when a young kid in Chicago, 10 years old, is handcuffed and peeing on itself. And I think that that was my first experience to know, and I'll never forget it, I'm sure he never will either. Right, and that shapes a relationship that people have. And you know, it's funny, I always try to have this conversation with people where I go, the shootings that you see are generally like, like, the last straw, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, and, that's, and, and, and, and, that's, and, that's, and, and, and, and, that's, that's, and, and, and, that's, and, and, and, that's, that's, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, that, that, and, that, that, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, th... that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, I. that's, that's, I. that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that You see so many people having these interactions with police. When you move through the book and when you talk about these things, there's one theme I notice you have, and that is talking about police interacting with black people who have disabilities, with black people who may have mental disabilities or mental issues.
Starting point is 00:19:41 And in the book you talk about, you dedicate the book to your son. Yes, my son has Asperger's Center. He's a very fit kid and you know and my concern, I think like when people say, like people always say teach your children to be afraid to respect the police. I think black people teach our kids to fear the police. It's like they're going outside. I want you to look them in the eye, don't move fast, don't run. Dad, I'm not going so far, no, you're going to the driveway. So, I think that we try to ensail a sense of fear in them because we don't want anything to happen to them.
Starting point is 00:20:15 But you're more likely to be hurt or killed or have a negative inaction with the police if you're mentally, emotionally or physically hand-again. They get shot more for your son as someone who has Asperger's? Because I think that sometimes my son has a hard time listening to me. I think, first of when you're a young man, you can't listen to instructors anyway. So I don't even know if it has anything to do with him having a mental disability. A kid, but, I, the fear is that you don't want them to see that as defiance and defiance costs like in America it's okay for somebody to get killed if if they're defiant they'll go well why did you why didn't you just do what they said why did you fine why did you talk and you never want to I don't want to be
Starting point is 00:21:01 one of those guys who's showing pictures so I can humanize my son. And so I always try to sense a sense of fear in them. But ultimately, the book is just, you know, it really is not an indictment of a society. It's an inspection. When you look at the book from cover to cover, what do you hope people will take away? Because some might say, but like, DL, I already know this morbid a mo mo mo mo.... the morbid. the morbid. the morbid. I, the the th.A. I, th. I'm, th. I'm, thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the book, the book, the book, thi, the book, the book, the book, the book, the book, the book, the book, the book, the book the book the book the book the book the book the book the book the book, the book, the book, the book, the book, the book, the book, the book... So, the book. So, the book. So, I'm, I'm, I'm thi. So, I'm thi. So, I'm thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. today, I's today, I's today, today, I's the. thi. thi. the already know the harsh realities like what am I getting from the book that I may not be getting from everyone else's conversations. First off a laugh because it's very funny I know it doesn't seem like it right now but but second I think that you'll you'll recognize some things things they're the only way that we can't thee thee thiii. Like. But thi. But thi. thi. thi. the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the only the only the only the only the only the only the only the only the only the only the only the only the only the only.................................................................................................................................. th... that they are not these like we can't keep having these kinds of things happen and everybody kind of go that's the way
Starting point is 00:21:48 things are because we can't pretend to be a society you can't say in a society that we're all about justice and you're innocent to prove guilty but an officer can summarily slurrower someone the streets and and no one being about to account them even if we know that they did it a they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. their. they they're they're their they. their. they're their. they're their. their. their. their. their. I I I's is. I's is. I's is. I's is. I I's is. I I's is. I I I's is. I I I's is. I I's is. I I's. I I's. I's the the the their. I's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th the. the. theean. tean. tean. tea. tea. tea. tea. te. te. try. thea. the. the. Even if we know that they did it, like, Philando Castile, he didn't break the law, we saw what happened. We weren't uncomfortable with it. I tell you what, the most dangerous place for black people to live is in white people's imagination.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Like, it's never the guy they see. It's not the black guy, it's the black dude in their imagination. I hope I never meet it. You know what, that's a powerful observation because I mean that really is it. It's more the idea of the black man than the actual black man. It's an idea that's being perpetuated through whatever it might be the news or screen or... Even if you look at what happened with Trump and Obama, everything they said about him was made up. He doesn't belong here, he's a Muslim. He's he here, he hates America, he's really a terrorist. And people believed it. They believed it because the idea of us is much more impactful and fearful than the reality of us.
Starting point is 00:22:55 And you get to do it. You get to, like, if there's a shooting in Chicago, they'll say, well, you know, 75 people were killed in Chicago, and that's an indicator, well, thiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, they... and they. they. they. they. they. they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. thi, their, thi, thi, thi, they're, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, their, their, their, their, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, the idea, their, their, their, they. And, they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. their, they. their, their, they. their, their, their, their, the idea, the idea, the most black people don't live in chicago but that is who we get indicted with right right a bunch of people white kids get killed with opiate we don't say that those are all white kids right but you get you paint us with one bird brush and it becomes our story and and like a I remember steven clad a cork at a shot in sacrame and they pointed out of a new school ho. I'm a new I to a new. I to a new. I to. I to. I to. I to. I'm. I need. I need. I need. I need. I'm. the to. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. the th. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. I. I. I. I. I. I. I was. I. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I. I. I........................................................................................................................................ even know. I didn't even know they were that close. How do you, how do you use comedy? I mean all comedians have different tools and, you know, coping mechanisms, but it's interesting that you say this funny in the book. Like, how do you, how do you respond to someone who says, but deal?
Starting point is 00:23:38 Is there anything funny in this? No, but it's ironic. It's ironic. Just like the things you hear, like now there's this argument. First off, this whole week has been hilarious to me, like Amarosa is dropping more tapes than Little Wayne. Right. But there's an argument as to whether Trump really said the n-word on tape. But there's an argument as to whether Trump really said the n-word the end-word on tape. thi, th, like, th, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like it, like it, like it, like it, like it, like it, like it, like it, like it, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the n-word on tape. Like, that's what we need. Because we heard him admit to sexual assault on tape. Right. We heard him. And I always make the point that white people in a poor position to judge what racism is.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Because they've been so horrible at it before. Right. But slavery wasn't racist. The monuments to racist weren't racist. So that's like a rapist decide what rape is. Do you know what I mean? You can't. And which is what the kid from Stanford try to do actually. Yeah, it was out of course, funny enough.
Starting point is 00:24:31 And they get to do it. And just like all they, like now they're saying like, whenever the in-word argument comes up, white people go, well, you the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the theat. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th.. th. the is. k. kid. kid. kid. kid. kid. kid. kid. kid. k. kid. kid. kid. kid. the is the is the is lexicon since the early 1700s. Hip-hop been around since 1975. Like, what came first? Nigger the Sugar Hill Gang. Like, you know, I don't get how even that's a real argument. Right, right. But they don't have that argument.
Starting point is 00:24:53 When you say it all the time, like, as if the first, not only has, am I certain that Donald Trump has said it, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, like, like, like, like, like, like, I, I, I'm, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, like, I, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, I, that, that, I'm, that, I'm, that, that, th. that, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, I th. that if the tape comes out, it'll be his campaign, his re-election campaign slope. I'm serious. There's nothing that he could say about somebody of color, or that you could, there's nothing so horrible. Like I can't stand Amarosa. I think she's a horrible human being. But you can't call her a dog. You could, if she, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, there is a way there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there is a there is a way, there is a way, there is a way, there is a way, there is a way, there is a way, there is a there is a way, there is a there is a there, there is a, there, there is a there is, there is, there is, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there is a, there is a, there is a there is a there is a there is a way to have discourse and disagreements with people without being so barbaric. And I think when that all goes out the window when you're an other, when you're a person to color, you get to say and do whatever you want and in the end people go, oh that's all that's all.
