It’s also easy to think you’ve got this life thing handled—because you’ve survived some big ...adversity in your time. In truth, we are all vulnerable. To our habits. Beware the little things. It can be easy to make an excuse. Oh, it's just a bad habit. Oh, it doesn't matter. It's also easy to think that you've got this life thing handled
Starting point is 00:01:05 because you've survived some big adversity in your time. In truth, we are all vulnerable to our habits to unexpected weaknesses. Great things can kill a man, but if they don't, he is stronger and better for them. John Steinbeck once wrote, a man is destroyed by the duck nibblings of nagging small bills, telephones, athletes, foot, ragweed, the common cold and boredom. All of these are the negatives, the tiny frustrations, and no one is stronger for them. From the Greeks, we get the reminder of the Achilles heel, a great and powerful man undone by his only weak point. From Xeno, we are reminded that small steps
Starting point is 00:01:45 are cumulatively no small thing. And the same goes for the list of ailments and entropies that Steinbeck mentioned. Cicero was undone in the end by a simple act of indecision. Marcus was troubled by a stomach ailment, and Xeno saw the end coming when he broke his finger. We must be aware of the little things. We are not invincible. We should not take our health, wealth, or strength or granted. We should be aware of our weak points. We should be aware of tiny frustrations, let's say come together and cease to be so small. Design your life and your defenses accordingly. And look, we have this Daily Stoke Habits challenge and it's six weeks of habit formation and positive habits are important but one of the whole week is about breaking bad habits and I do think that bad habits add up and they
Starting point is 00:02:31 they exact a pretty profound toll on us. Celebrity feuds are high stakes. You never know if you're just going to end up on page six or Du Moir or in court. I'm Matt Bellasai.
Starting point is 00:05:19 And I'm Sydney Battle, and we're the host of Wondery's new podcast, Disantel, where each episode we unpack a different iconic celebrity feud from the build up, why it happened, and the repercussions. What does our obsession with these feuds say about us? The first season is packed with some pretty messy pop culture drama, but none is drawn out in personal as Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears. When Britney's fans form the free Britney movement dedicated to fraying her from the infamous conservatorship, Jamie
Starting point is 00:05:46 Lins lack of public support. It angered some fans. A lot of them. It's a story of two young women who have their choices taken away from them by their controlling parents, but took their anger out on each other. And it's about a movement to save a superstar, which set its sights upon anyone who failed to fight for Brittany. Follow Disenthal wherever you get your podcast.
