Welcome to the Daily Stoic Podcast, where each day we bring you a passage of ancient wisdom designed to help you find strength, insight, and wisdom every day life.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Each one of these passages is based on the 2,000-year-old philosophy that has guided some of histories, greatest men and women. For more, you can visit us at dailystowett.com. The legacy is not for you, but this is. Why are we talking about the Stoics 2000 years since they died? Why do the works and the memories of Marcus and Epictetus in Santa Cat helped live them? It's simple, because they make our lives better. That's why you care about Marcus Realis, not because he was famous or important, but because
Starting point is 00:01:08 the ideas he jotted down, improve your own. This, despite all those reminders to himself about the foolishness of hoping for posthumous fame, we can imagine what actually please Marcus. We can imagine him nodding in agreement with what Prince Philip said about legacy shortly before he died. I'd rather other people decide what legacy I left, he said, I'm not trying to create one. Life's going to go on after me and if I can make life marginably more tolerable for other people, I'd be delighted. As we said a little while back, legacy is not for you, but doing what you can in the here
Starting point is 00:01:43 and now to make life better for others, that is. That is the kind of legacy you can work to stamp into every day you get. What did we do for others? Did we embody good character? Did we embody the philosophy? Not just talk about it. That is what really matter. Thanks so much for listening to the Daily Stoke podcast. FTX Founder Sam Bankman Freed lived that dream life, but it was all funded with other people's money, but he allegedly stole. Many thought Sam Bankman Freed was changing the game as he graced the pages of Forbes in Vanity Fair. Some involved in crypto saw him as a breath of fresh air, from the usual Wall Street buffs
Starting point is 00:02:59 with his casual dress and ability to play League of Legends during boardroom meetings. But in less than a year, his exchange would collapse. An SPF would find himself in a jail cell, with tens of thousands of investors blaming him for their crypto losses. From Bloomberg and Wondering, comes Spellcaster, a new six-part docu-series about the meteoric rise and spectacular fall of FTX, and its founder, Sam Beckman Fried.
