Starting point is 00:02:39 That's Gloria, courtesy of Hannah Soltis. And I'm thrilled to be joined, always By my co-host Mr. Miles Greg Don't you know I got a cheese Quesadillas in the drink I'm a hot blast Order Mexi-Melt They say we don't serve that
Starting point is 00:02:56 Where the Taco Bell at Where the Taco Bell at Where the manager at I need my Mexi-Melt Thank you to at Soltis Hanna for, you know, a combining
Starting point is 00:03:09 my love for TI. I was just telling people off mic about my experience with the song. Shout out to Tiana. I was the one who left the speakers
Starting point is 00:03:16 in the Mustang convertible. Oh, no. Yep. And yeah. Yeah. Just on brand, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:22 Mexi-Melt. But also shout out to the Zyke gang who always bless me with this Maxi Melos men pack. They always eat my favorite items. Well, we are thrilled to be joined in our third seat by the hilarious James Mastriani. Hey, how's it going, guys? Hey, what's up, man?
Starting point is 00:03:38 Yeah, thanks for having me. Welcome. Thanks. It's great to have you, man. Did I get your super Italian last name correct? You did. Very good. Mastriani.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Yeah, it's a hard one. Mastriani. Mastriani. Oh. Is that Italian? That is Italian. Wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Do you know what region? I do, yeah. I've got half of my family is from Calabria, which is the boot part. Not the heel, but the boot. And the other half is from Abruzzo, which is up in the north. Wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Okay. Never been. I'm about to go for my first time. Oh, I'm jealous. Very looking forward to just starching my body. Yeah. Yeah. Well, be nice to all the Mastrianis out there.
Starting point is 00:04:19 I will. I will. And I'll be like, hey, I think I know your cousin? Uncle? Somebody? Yeah, somebody. Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Do you know, is that a common name in Italy? Mastroianni is very common. Yeah. Sounds like it should be. Yeah. And there's usually like, there's usually an O in it in Italy. But, you know, when we came over, they always change. The Ellis Island.
Starting point is 00:04:41 The old Ellis Island. Just randomly placed throughout the words. Yeah, they were like, I don't know how to do this. Oh, Mastroianni. Wing it. Yeah. That idea of the Ellis Islanding became very clear to me from watching The Sopranos so much. And Phil Leotardo tells it.
Starting point is 00:05:00 I don't know if you remember the show. There's a scene where he's explaining to the younger kids of the family. He's like, we used to be Leonardo until the Amerigons made us change it, and now it's a dancing dress. And then they're like, I think that's a unitard. And then he's like, isn't that different? He's like, no, it isn't. And it's like this whole thing about he has this whole thing
Starting point is 00:05:20 about being named after a unitard. All right. Took that on a tangent. Why would they make him change the N to a t or you think you think that was just self-mythologizing on on his part he wanted to be like uh related to no he no he was he was basically saying that but he was like but when you get here they took our identity and made us leotardo they're like you know it'd be funnier if your name was leotardo. Yeah. Seems patronizing for sure. Yeah, a little bit.
Starting point is 00:05:48 All right, James, we're going to get to know you a little bit better in a moment. First, we are going to take our listeners through a couple of things we're talking about today. We are going to officially congratulate the city of Toronto on being NBA champs. Good for you. Good for you, Drake. Good on you, Toronto. Good for you, Kawhi, Masai Ujiri. Good for you. Good for you, Drake. Good on you, Toronto. Good for you, Kawhi. Masai Ujiri.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Good for everybody. We're also going to ask the question in our basketball wrap-up, does Air Buds suck at basketball? The Onion AV Club came out with an article suggesting that. I'm going to have a contrary take on that. Oh, wow. We're going to talk about Elizabeth Warren, whether she's surging in America, and also where she is placed in the debates.
Starting point is 00:06:31 They split the field up, and it's tough to say whether she's disadvantaged because she's with a weaker field that people are going to pay less attention to, that people are going to pay less attention to, or if it's like, Miles, you were saying, it's like being in the weaker bracket of the NCAA tournament. Yeah. So just be out here clearing these people out. Yeah. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:06:58 We're going to talk about the attempt by the U.S. government, possibly, to start shit with Iran. We're bring in super producer anna hosnier for that uh we're gonna talk about elaine chow the uh new less fun scott pruitt uh we're gonna talk about cuba gooding jr being in trouble uh and the video of the incident that is just one of the weirder closed circuit videos i've seen and i watch a lot of weird ones. Yeah, I was going to say that. You send me a lot of live leak links that I just don't watch. And the new shaft came out this past weekend. We're going to talk about that because it's apparently, hmm, interesting.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Stuck in the past? Yeah, stuck in the past. Even further in the past than the original shaft. So we'll talk about that. But first, James, we would like to ask our guest, what is something from your search history that's revealing about who you are? Yeah, so I checked my search history, and the last thing I looked up was I was looking up the Mandela effect,
Starting point is 00:08:03 which I was not super familiar with, but I was high, and I was looking up things to talk about for a show that I do and I got I went down this rabbit hole are you guys familiar with the Mandela Effect? and the thing that blows my mind about it is specifically the
Starting point is 00:08:19 Berenstain Bears versus the Berenstain I can't get past it that's the only reason I heard about the Mandela Effect Berenstain Bears versus the Berenstain. Yeah. Right. I can't get past it. Yeah, that really, I mean, that's the only reason I heard about the Mandela Effect. I can't get past it. When that story came out. All right.
Starting point is 00:08:31 So explain that to me. Okay. So, you know, the Berenstain Bears books. Right. I grew up always just not really paying attention. And based off what I was hearing all the time, that they were called the Berenstain Bears. Yeah, me too. And it's stained. With an A.
Starting point is 00:08:44 Yeah. And they are the Berenstain Bears. And like, there was And it's stained. With an A. Yeah. And they are the Berenstain Bears. And like there was like a BuzzFeed article I felt like a few years ago that was like, we've been saying it wrong though. Like, look, just fucking read the thing. Yeah. So you were saying Berenstein. Berenstein.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Berenstein. Rather than Berenstain. Got it. Yeah. And so there's a whole, you know, there's a whole bunch of the population that knows it as Berenstain Bears. Right. And it's actually Berenstain.
Starting point is 00:09:08 So the whole theory is like that. I mean, there's different theories of maybe parallel universe. Maybe we live in a simulation and half the population is having a glitch. Right. Yeah. And the Mandela effect refers to the fact that a lot of people thought Nelson Mandela was dead before he was dead. Like they thought they experienced it. There's a whole bunch of people out there that specifically remember his televised funeral in the 1980s.
Starting point is 00:09:37 In the 80s? In the 80s. They remember in the 80s that he had like a internationally like televised funeral. Do you remember that? I don't, no. I don't remember that. Yeah, I don't either. That one didn't, I couldn't relate to that one. The Berenstain Bears one
Starting point is 00:09:56 though, just fucked me up. And the theory is that like those people just crossed over from a separate dimension or yeah that they're experiencing a glitch in the matrix or yeah huh or there's another theory that uh it could potentially be time travelers right i like that yeah time travelers are are you know the butterfly effect like they're traveling back in time and things are changing right yeah but they don't
Starting point is 00:10:21 realize it but they don't know it yeah huh they don't know it. Could you imagine? And then we just woke up one day and we were like, wait, it's Berenstain? It's not Steen. Yeah. Like maybe a whole part of the population got wiped out and then they just went to an alternate dimension and kidnapped them and brought them over. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Interesting. Sounds like a good movie. Yeah. Very specific one. Mandela Effect. I guarantee there's going to be a Mandela Effect movie at some point. There huh, interesting. Sounds like a good movie. Yeah. Very specific one. Mandela Effect. I guarantee there's going to be a Mandela Effect movie at some point. There should, yeah. I'm sure that, or it's like, I mean,
Starting point is 00:10:51 it feels like it's ripe for a Black Mirror episode. Yeah, yeah. Mm-hmm. Just how media could have created like a false memory. I'm like, hmm, who knows? Yeah. Oh, yeah, media. Yeah, that's another theory too is that the media did it.
Starting point is 00:11:03 I mean, the Berenstain Bears thing seems just like it's a name that sounds like it should be Steen. Yeah, because we know Bruce Springsteen, and there's a lot of other names that are Steen. I don't know anything that's a Stain. Me neither. So your brain just filled it in with other names. It'd be like if suddenly Seinfeld was like Seinfeld. Seinfold. Seinfold.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I'm sorry, what? Jerry Seinfold. Wait, no, that's not how I remember it. You remember it how? What? Well, it's also like when you realize certain celebrities let people, when people let them mispronounce their name like Chrissy Teigen, then we didn't know.
Starting point is 00:11:44 And I'm like, oh, she just stopped correcting people. Yeah. But she's like, yeah, if you want to respect the name, it's Teigen. Yeah. Oh, shit. That would be me if I ever became a celebrity. People would be like, oh, James Mastrani. I'd be like, yep, it's Mastrani.
Starting point is 00:11:58 That's me. Mastrani. Yep, good to see you. Whatever you say it is. What is something you think is underrated? I think the current most underrated thing in the world right now is sweatpants. Wow. DJ Daniel.
Starting point is 00:12:15 It's sweatpants as everyday type of wear. Okay. Because I feel like there's this thing of like if you wear sweatpants, I saw Jack just check to see if I was wearing them I'm wearing jeans I know I know the you know I know the social consequences of wearing sweatpants is like well James is depressed or James doesn't have
Starting point is 00:12:36 money or something's you know whereas getting divorced James is getting divorced yeah and um I fucking love sweatpants I think they're the most comfortable thing 100 i feel like myself when i'm wearing sweatpants um so for me sweatpants incredibly underrated oh yeah and i think we talked about this the last time was i think when carl lagerfeld died because he famously said something about like sweatpants just being like a just a sign
Starting point is 00:13:03 of giving up or whatever oh really but it's like no bro you've actually you've you've reached the top of the mountain yeah sweatpants hopefully hopefully that idea died with him i mean there are people who still like look at like why are you wearing sweatpants like because they're fucking that's the most baller shit you could wear oh man and and and like good sweatpants when they have pockets you know it's like it's got you've got now utility you've got you know function you've got you know joggers are pretty stylistic a little bit yeah i think that's kind of like i feel like now when i see somebody in sweatpants i just assume they're young like because younger people wear sweatpants like in a stylish way more than i mean you got you wear nike tech pants yeah but that's because i'm trying to be young oh okay well i wouldn't put you quite in that bracket where like
Starting point is 00:13:52 you because if you think about it even for you know i know you're a cusp gen x millennial cusp but like there was a while when the wave was wearing sweatsuits even when i was a kid looking up and that informed my sweat pant wearing, where I was like, yo, that's some fucking baller shit. Yeah. Fucking sweatsuit? Totally.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Yeah, yeah. So in a way, you know, you've known the wave. And in the Northeast Italian culture, as we all know, track suits are very popular. Right, yeah, yeah, yeah. Which is very close to, I think, sweatpants. Oh, absolutely. I think I'm thinking of a specific type of sweatpants
Starting point is 00:14:24 that's like drop crotch with like narrow at the bottom. Like that shit is... Aladdin pants? Yeah. That's the only thing I see high school kids wearing. Aladdin. Super high model.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Dude, you need to start watching my closed circuit videos. Just watching closed circuit videos of high school kids. High school is getting out. All right, Jack. Tell them to keep up on my slang, guys. They have audio? All right, man. Look, my story's got holes.
Starting point is 00:14:54 What is something you think is overrated? I'm on trial, man. Overrated to me is motivational speakers. Okay. Are overrated to me. And I'm not talking about like, you know, I'm not talking about like thoughtful sort of like TED talk type of here's why empathy is great. Like that sort of stuff is great. I'm talking about like grifters like Tony Robbins who are to me just like glorified like pastors almost. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Televangelists in a way. glorified like pastors almost yeah televangelists in a way um and i just feel like everything that that dude says specifically him i feel like he's like the pinnacle of it right but um it's such bullshit to me it feels so every time i i try to watch it just for like a character study i'm it i can't i cringe yeah it's like pretty empty as platitudes and the fucking like just like you don't know any of these people on a personal level so it's just like hey do this take this workshop for a weekend your life it's gonna change right yeah yeah it's gonna change because you've lost a thousand dollars i know extremely profitable and then i feel like it's led to this whole thing on like instagram or twitter where's like a whole legion of people just constantly posting
Starting point is 00:16:12 motivational quotes yes and like that's their whole brand and it's very annoying to me it's very yeah it's it's funny because it's annoying but i'm like at least that's your brand like you could be doing something awful but it's annoying as but I'm like, at least that's your brand. You could be doing something awful, but it's annoying as fuck. Because I know people who went from like, there was an old coworker I had a few jobs ago who was not the most introspective person I had met. And then suddenly this person got really into manifesting and law of attraction, things like that, and built like a whole YouTube brand around it. And their Instagram is just inundated with the exact kind of shit of like, today, open your eyes to all of the possibilities that are around you and have been around you. And I'm like, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:17:01 That's very vague. Yeah. Okay. That's not a practical thing. Yeah, I think what's more practical is like, how about you just take people's confirmation bias and how that relates to their perception of their own reality. If you have
Starting point is 00:17:12 an inner monologue in your head of saying, I don't get this all the time. I never get this all the time. If that's your inner monologue, then your confirmation bias is only going to look for details that reinforce that perception. If you then go change your inner monologue to a lot of things are working out for me. I'm actually very happy and things happen all the time that could help me.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Then you will begin to see those things because now you've switched your confirmation bias. How about that? And you can buy my tapes for $1,000. You know what? I'm back on motivational speakers. I'm back on. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:40 As long as it's Miles, I'm in. It's just me. But then featuring Tony Robbins. Not that six foot 10 monster that's just taking people's money. There's all teeth and groping people. Oh, man. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, that's what I definitely...
Starting point is 00:17:54 Yeah. It is funny because it is a step... It's like same thing as televangelist. Same thing. Except without the religion part. Yeah. But even the... At least the religion part, there's like a text it's coming from.
Starting point is 00:18:04 Like, I know the characters in the Bible. Right. right meanwhile tony robbins is like don't you want a rolex right yeah it's lower lower difficulty televangelist because you're just using the thing that everybody has which is like being an american right american consumerism is the absolutely that they're working off of it It does feel like some of them are like cheerleaders for capitalism. It feels like this productive, like cheerleaders for productivity. Because motivational speakers are never like, hey, you know what you need? A nap. You need, you've been working too hard, you look tired.
Starting point is 00:18:40 In fact, Tony Robbins' seminars are known to, like, he doesn't let you sleep. He doesn't let you go get drinks of water. People start hallucinating because he's like makes – because it's all like mind over body, man. You got to just ignore. You become septic because you're on your P for so long. Yeah. You're just making yourself a victim. It's just – yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Yeah. Well, yeah. Because at the end of the day, precisely what you say is they're motivating the desire to consume as many goods as possible as the the carrot that they dangle because you want the rolex you want the lamborghini you want the vacations you want to go here you want to go there you want to fly first class those are the things that they're motivating it's never like like i'm saying is like are you just trying to change energetically how you're looking at life to add more positivity rather than like you want a motherfucking Mercedes? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:27 This is how you do it. I mean, if you find it useful, like use it for yourself, but don't expect me not to judge you for it. And it's such a never ending cycle because like, let's say those people go and they get that Mercedes, they get that fucking Rolex and then they come back in six months because they're still unhappy because they never really addressed the real shit. Exactly. And so he just keeps getting paid because he's like,
Starting point is 00:19:46 you know, like, oh, you're back. Look who's back, you know, because you're unhappy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:50 Yeah. And he has people who pay him a hundred something thousand dollars a year to be like his inner circle. Yeah. Fuck that guy.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Yo, we should, oh man, I want to infiltrate. Get him on the show. Take over from Tony. Yeah. They make you sign
Starting point is 00:20:03 your life away in NDAs. I will. I will. That sounds like- For that Rolex. I'll get a Rolex, though. And finally, what is a myth?
Starting point is 00:20:12 What's something people think is true you know to be false? So this is a really important thing to me because aside from being a comedian, I'm also an advocate for cannabis and- Like all comedians. Like all comedians, yeah. And I do a show called I'm Too Effing High, which is also a podcast and a live show as well. We get comedians high on marijuana, have them do comedic challenges. That sounds terrible, like a show I would never do. You got to come do it. That sounds like an Olympic event that you would invent for yourself.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Yeah, just to create some kind of Guinness World Record. It is sort of like that. It is sort of like a little like Cannabis Olympics where it's just sort of we put comedians on the spot. And, you know, it's sort of our way of normalizing cannabis through the language of comedy, which everybody, you know, comedy is who doesn't like comedy. Comedy is who doesn't like comedy? And the myth is that, and Joe Biden recently resurrected this, the idea that cannabis is a gateway drug, which is crazy. I know it's 2019 and you think like, oh, that is so silly. That's such a funny myth at this point.
Starting point is 00:21:26 But my man Biden, he came out recently and he said he doesn't agree with it it's a part of the reason why the opiate crisis is happening which completely takes backwards yeah it completely and as somebody from you know i'm from pittsburgh which is um and i have i have family members and friends that are opiate addicts and uh pittsburgh right now is like right in the center of the biggest problems with opiates pittsburgh right now is like right in the center of the biggest problems with opiates pittsburgh west virginia ohio that that whole area and even from anecdotal evidence i've never seen anybody get hooked on opiates from anything else other than pharmaceutical drugs like it's never been smoke weed for 10 years and you know right uh now i'm gonna start doing heroin oxy yeah it's not a fucking thing it's this made-up thing that doesn't exist that we continue to say over and
Starting point is 00:22:13 over again right it's fucking infuriating and it's also when you look statistically like states that have medical marijuana they have much lower rates of opioid abuse they sure do they offer people alternatives when many people are like i was hooked on opioids right and then i got into medical cannabis or whatever to treat whatever my pain was and i'm glad i have that yep because i'm not fucking just smacked out the whole day yeah yeah but yeah it's true it's it's one of those things i mean you know at the end of the day because joe biden is big pharma's one of their biggest cheerleaders. Definitely going to be like, yeah, you know, it's probably the weed.
Starting point is 00:22:48 It's not the opioids. Right. Let's not talk about that. Probably the drug that nobody has ever OD'd from ever. Well, there was a thing. There was some recent thing where they tried to say some woman died of a marijuana overdose. Yeah, they sure did. And I was like, who, what, and where?
Starting point is 00:23:03 Because that's the first time ever on earth I've ever heard of this. Well, they acknowledge that. Like the headlines I saw, it was like, first person ever to OD of THC. It's like, well, maybe she died of something else then. If this has never killed anyone ever before, there's been a lot of people, and a lot of them have died. Some people may have been high at the moment they were dead yeah yeah but what can you do yeah so that's my myth you're wrong joe biden
Starting point is 00:23:29 and jack and jack i do always he's always like it's gateway drug miles i wouldn't touch that uh-oh gonna be a doper man jack uh just looking out for you man yeah doper a couple of dopers smoke dope dope yeah next thing you know you're snorting some coke first starts with dope doing some coke yeah i feel like coke is a real gateway drug was that no that's the one that'll get you yeah meth oh yeah yeah yeah what did your parents call weed dope um my parents called it i feel like my parents called it grass. Grass. I heard grass more.
Starting point is 00:24:08 My parents called it grass. Like, dope, to me, is still always heroin. Is heroin. Yeah, I've always known it to be heroin. Yeah, that's why with people who call it dope, I'm like, excuse me, officer? Yeah. Fucking dope?
Starting point is 00:24:21 What are you talking about, heroin? Yeah. Yeah, my dad called it dope well i think that's maybe he thought he was warning me against heroin i just thought it was your dad was edgy he's like no you can smoke weed don't smoke dope yeah smoke dope it's dangerous i remember i remember having a conversation with this older dude who like was talking to me he was like oh so um i heard you're a stoner huh and i was like uh yeah yeah and he was like yeah i used to be a stoner back in my day me and my
Starting point is 00:24:51 buds we would you know throw back a whole bunch of beers in college and i was like wait what you know keystone lights that you think that's what it is no i don't know i was like wait now i've never heard anybody right not once did he say anything about weed. Weed, right. That's weird. That's super weird. I mean, I know people call Keystone stones. They'll be like, yo, how many stones?
Starting point is 00:25:11 I've definitely, I think I've heard, it might all be like from this locus of New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia area, because I've definitely heard Billy Joel referred to getting drunk as being stoned. Oh, really? We just took the word and gave it, it started off maybe being inebriated.
Starting point is 00:25:28 Right. Now it's just like, yeah. Yeah. And next it's going to be like, tripping balls is going to be like, oh man, I just had a cigarette. I'm tripping balls. And you're talking to these kids like,
Starting point is 00:25:39 what? You hear your kids say, what the fuck? You're like, no, I have a cigarette. I used to trip balls, man. I used to trip balls. I used to smoke a pack a day. Tripping balls, man.
Starting point is 00:25:46 Tripping balls. I mean, yeah, they were dipped in formaldehyde, but yeah. Anyways, it's cool that I know most of my drug slang from Billy Joel songs, right? Yeah. That's a cool thing. Yeah. Cut to you being undercover DEA agent. That's the test.
Starting point is 00:26:02 All right. We're going to take a quick break. We'll be right back. Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist who on October 16th, 2017 was murdered. There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate. My name is Manuel Delia. I am one of the hosts of Crooks Everywhere, a podcast that unhurts the plot to murder a one-woman Wikileaks. Daphne exposed the
Starting point is 00:26:35 culture of crime and corruption that were turning her beloved country into a mafia state. And she paid the ultimate price. Listen to Crooks everywhere on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradenti. And I'm Jemi Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions, like how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or can I negotiate a higher salary
Starting point is 00:27:18 if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies.
Starting point is 00:27:39 Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it, like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports,
Starting point is 00:28:07 where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys.
Starting point is 00:28:23 I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire?
Starting point is 00:28:39 Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Starting point is 00:29:07 where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really in here. I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on.
Starting point is 00:29:26 From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is braggadocious. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained?
Starting point is 00:29:48 This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. Listen to the making of a rivalry, Caitlin Clark versus Angel Reese on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. and we're back and uh yeah shout out to toronto raptors fans yeah shout out to now kawaii should come play for the los angeles clippers he can do whatever he wants he he's uh he's done his thing but it's really the first time in NBA history that a one-year rental has just been like, and that worked right away. And he's talking like he knows that. Like, yeah, you know, gave the city what they needed.
Starting point is 00:30:35 We'll see what happens. There's some really cool videos of, like, there's one video that somebody took from a 37th floor of a skyscraper in Toronto, and it's the middle of the night, but you can just hear the city of Toronto going off. That's cool. Yeah, which that's, you don't think of Canadians going wild like that. Oh, I used to play hockey, man.
Starting point is 00:30:58 I've seen them fucking go wild. Actually, yeah, I've seen some of those hockey riots are pretty wild. No, don't fuck around. Shout out to anyone in Winnipeg. I've seen some weird videos from Winnipeg. Definitely some health issues for the Golden State Warriors, but at the same time, anybody who's pointing to that and acting like that doesn't count,
Starting point is 00:31:20 they won their first title when LeBron's team lost Kyrie and Kevin Love. So, you know. Kawhi Leonard, though, quite the resume now. He beat the Heetals. Yeah. He beat the Warriors. Yeah. He's been an MVP in both conferences.
Starting point is 00:31:36 In both of those finals. Yeah. On two teams. The only player to ever be finals MVP on two teams is Kareem and LeBron and now Kawhi Leonard. I feel like he should just keep going. He should go and beat Serena Williams. He should go and beat whoever the big soccer team is right now in Europe.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Let's say, well, Liverpool, they won the Champions League. Liverpool, go take Liverpool down, Kawhi. Yeah. Yeah. Take on the women's national team. Women's natural soccer team go beat merrill teams win an oscar beat merrill streep yep yeah with his lack of charisma could you imagine just like whatever that performance where somehow the universe is like
Starting point is 00:32:17 that was actually the best best actress okay award it's him and merrill streep's like there's something about that laugh yeah he gave the least of anybody I've ever seen celebrating a championship, but it was still more than I expected. Yeah, he was just moving his shoulders. I was like, is he going to smile? Because he wasn't smiling at the end of any of the games leading up to it.
Starting point is 00:32:40 He's focused. And shout out to y'all. Y'all got your thing. I wish Damon Sotomayor would have got his ring, but, you know. Yeah, yeah. Thanks. Tracy McGrady, you know, would have been great. Tracy, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Y'all had some great players. Vince Carter. Oh, man, that Raptors team. Woo. Yeah, really good. That dunk contest. Woo. Oh, are you talking about the 2000?
Starting point is 00:32:59 Your 2000? The first Vince Carter dunk contest? His first. His only, I think. His, when he just straight up did a reverse 360 windmill off the fucking rip, and I was like, it's over. Yes. It's over.
Starting point is 00:33:10 All dunk contests are over after that. That was my favorite dunk of all time. Let's talk about Air Bud real quick. I know it's the thing that's on everybody's mind. No, the AV Club had a pretty funny piece analyzing whether Air Bud was good at basketball. And if you don't know, it's a Disney film from 97 about a fucking golden retriever who plays on a middle school basketball team. Right.
Starting point is 00:33:31 And they're making the point that... They're making the point that... His game is fairly limited, right? You have to throw the ball at his face in order for him to score, and it has to be a pretty on-point pass, and he has to have a clear lay into the basket. He's shooting from knee height. Right.
Starting point is 00:33:53 He should be stuffing the shit out of that. He should be able to block it. At the same time, they're analyzing it like it's a high school basketball player. Shotmaking is severely lacking in 12-year-old basketball. Very true. Oh, yeah. You kidding me? Nobody.
Starting point is 00:34:07 The only kids who were balling did layups really good. Yeah. But what team doesn't need somebody that is, you know, he's like J.J. Redick. Right. What team doesn't need a cutter and somebody that's there to just like get open and shoot? Yeah. Yeah. That's Air Bud.
Starting point is 00:34:21 That's Air Bud. If anything, this should be more of an indictment on the opponents that he faced. Yes. Their defense was very... It's more about, why are you letting this fucking dog score on you? I think that's why I don't agree with this article. I think it's backwards. It's disrespectful because if you
Starting point is 00:34:37 look at Air Bud, does this dog suck at basketball? Objectively, no. Right. Definitely not. Put him up against other dogs and he's fucking, he'll fuck around and get a triple-double. That's true. I mean, he's not Teen Wolf,
Starting point is 00:34:48 but he's still. Teen Wolf is not a dog. Right. Jack, so that's not fair. Although, when Mick is talking shit to Teen Wolf, he talks about his mom
Starting point is 00:34:57 being a dog. Yeah. But that's just trash talking. I mean, I don't know. That's not about his lineage. He says his dad blew his mom's head off
Starting point is 00:35:04 with a shotgun. Is that what he said? Yeah, it's very weird. Oh, I forget that you're also a Teen Wolf historian. One of our greatest films. All right, let's talk about Elizabeth Warren. She is surging in California, eating away at Bernie's support, it seems. Love it.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Yeah, there's a new UC Berkeley LA Times poll. So in the state of California with Democratic primary voters, Biden leads with 22%, followed by Elizabeth Warren at 18% and Sanders at 17%. She's actually gained ground over Bernie, suggesting that she's eating into his support now. And then they say Harris, Kamala Harris has 13%, Buttigieg at 10%. So, yeah, I think right now that tie, like a lot of people are saying, that shows that with other recent polls, like with liberal voters especially, people are starting to put their eye on Liz Warren, the wonk, who likes to get her homework turned in on time. Yeah. Yeah. I love Elizabeth Warren.
Starting point is 00:36:05 She's – I feel like I'm an Elizabeth Warren hipster in that, like, she's who I wanted to run in – what is it? 2016? Yeah, 2016, but when the primaries were coming out. Right. Because I just love her. I love her ideas. I love her just – yeah, she's great. Good worldview, you know?
Starting point is 00:36:25 And I think just from coming from being like an economist and understanding how especially the financial markets work in this country, because that's really the driver of inequality in this country. To have someone so like vividly focused on that and using that as a way to create, you know, a more equitable state, I think is a good thing. So, yeah, I think is a good thing. So yeah, I think we'll see what happens. I think, yeah, with 2016, everyone just knew it's like, well, it's time for Hillary to get her shot. Right. By respect.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Respect, respect. And then now, once that went down, now everyone's like, there's 40 of us. Yeah. And also, she has a really smart take on it too. I feel like, you know, because in America, socialism is such a dirty word. Yeah. To Republicans.
Starting point is 00:37:08 To Republicans, yeah. Or even, like, I think some moderates and independents think that it's, like, a dirty word because they don't fully understand what it means. But I love that she continues to come out and say that, like, no, I'm a capitalist. I'm here to fix what's broken about capitalism, what's exploitative about it. And to me, I feel like that's kind of like for those independents and those moderates, I feel like it's like good phrasing.
Starting point is 00:37:35 Yeah, that's the gateway drug to socialism. Yeah. So I'm all for that. I don't think we can get capitalists hooked on socialism off the first hit. Yeah, no, no, no. But that's the other thing too. When I hear her say that, I'm like, God, is there a way to do ethical capitalism?
Starting point is 00:37:51 I mean, like, I understand that there is, if all of these things are like using policies like co-determination, like they have in Germany where like your board is like half non shareholders and people who work in the company. Right. Like that, those things can work. But I just, I hope it's like any like super liberal candidate. It's like, can all of the forces that are already at work, how quickly is that going to be able to change for the better?
Starting point is 00:38:15 And I hope it, I mean, shit, if you have the right leader and people behind it, hopefully it can. Well, we certainly haven't tried ethical capitalism. No, we've tried fuck you capitalism, and we've perfected it. It might be worth a shot. And so they also announced, I guess this is the first debate, June 26th, that they announced the two kind of lineups. Yeah, because they had so many people.
Starting point is 00:38:39 They're like, fuck, we're going to have to split this up into two nights. So it's 20 people and 10 on each night. The first night is Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Beto, Amy Klobuchar, John Delaney, Tulsi Gabbard, Julian Castro, Tim Ryan. Tim Ryan's running? Yeah. Bill de Blasio and Jay Inslee.
Starting point is 00:39:01 Oh, God. Tim Ryan is running? Yeah. No one asked him to. What? Somehow did. I think there's a lot of people on there. Nobody asked them tolee. Oh, God. Tim Ryan is running? Yeah. No one asked him to. What? Somehow did. I think there's a lot of people on there. Nobody asked them to run.
Starting point is 00:39:09 Yeah, a lot of people. I mean, Beto, please go back to Texas. Yeah. I feel like you should really run against John Cornyn for that Senate seat. That would be much more beneficial considering the mathematics of the Senate and the fucking ghoul who's running the business in the Senate. fucking ghoul who's running the business in the senate but um i mean she seems like the only candidate on that night that has she's the only top tier candidate yeah she's the only top tier candidate the other lineup has sanders harris biden and budaj all on the same night you'd think
Starting point is 00:39:38 you would have wanted one or two of those uh over on the other night oh but i like that though i like that um miles comparison of like she's of like she's in the weaker bracket. She could just. I like that. I mean, not that they're quite at the attack stage of debates yet, but I feel like from a policy standpoint, she is going to have, you know, she's had answers about with using policy to a lot of people's questions at town halls and things like that.
Starting point is 00:40:03 And then, but then also the Biden side, you have people like Kamala Harris, Eric Swalwell, Jill Brand, like people who- Andrew Yang. Yeah, people who are kind of not quite getting the percentages they need, who on those debate stages, those are the people who typically start putting the strap out. Yeah, that's true. They have nothing to lose. Yeah, and I guess at the same time,
Starting point is 00:40:27 I guess there are definitely people like Amy Klobuchar who would like to make a splash a little bit more and Beto. So I don't know if they're going to quite go at it, but I feel like with Biden being the top person, there's a lot more gravitational pull for something to go down. Who knows? Oh, man, that would be great if somebody like Eric Swalwell just swung for the fences and did something really entertaining.
Starting point is 00:40:50 It's a wrap already for him. So just, yeah, do something. Try something. Yeah. Why not? And then the other thing, too, is that along with her just general pole performance doing a lot better, just general poll performance doing a lot better. There are now, like there was on CNBC,
Starting point is 00:41:10 there was a poll of people who like had over $50 million or whatever, like just sort of millionaires polling them. And about two thirds of them support her wealth tax, Elizabeth Warren's wealth tax. We're like, yeah, please tax me more. Wow. Like I have a lot of money. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:49 And I'm starting to feel bad when I look at that. I might be the destroyer. Right. So which is interesting because a lot of people, you know, especially when you saw on Fox, like from like last summer when AOC started getting popular, they're like, I don't know, like they want to take they want to tax all these people to pay for this stuff. How are they going to pay for it with wealthy people's extra money yeah i don't know and now you have these things we're like yeah they're like please i get it like and also i think if you're smart you know that eventually if it gets bad enough you're gonna have a target on your back right like you're the things you know just like when you look at other countries where there's huge wealth disparities the uber wealthy tend to have to live in much safer conditions because the general population is like, I'm going to steal your things. There's usually kidnapping, like a lot of kidnapping. Right, like in Brazil too. People are like, oh, I don't even drive on the road. I take helicopters. Right. They have no choice because, yeah, the people are ready to eat the rich in some of those places. So, hey, yeah, come on, rich. We don't want to eat you so just uh come off those bucks so if there's
Starting point is 00:42:26 two-thirds that support that then then i mean one-third of of rich people or what is like completely tanking our society incredibly wealthy people who are throwing around their money who are like i don't see any problem here oh yeah moving on well especially when you look at sort of the direction the wealth's moved like i think the top the top 1%, like, I mean, these aren't exact numbers, but they created about, like, a little over $1 trillion in wealth for themselves. Well, like, the bottom 50% lost around $900 billion. So, you know, they're hoovering up the wealth, and they're hoarding it, and they're storing it. And it's just sitting there while other people are dying for terrible reasons. Like they don't have enough money and we don't have systems that support people enough.
Starting point is 00:43:09 So, you know, come on, y'all. We got our bibs on. We don't want to eat you. Just want to teach you. Well, if we have to. All right. Let's bring in Super Producer Ana Hosnier to talk about what is going on in Iran right now. Ever since.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Finally, content I can relate to. That whole other bit you guys just did, I was like, I am too rich for this. That's right. She was tucking all her gold coins under the desk. I was hiding all my jewelry. I was like, what do these people want from me? It is weird that you keep a whole gold bullion bar
Starting point is 00:43:44 in your car like that. Why would you tell people that? I had to let them know. In this climate? They got to know who we're talking about. I will be murdered. Thank you for joining us, Ana. I mean, Ana, what do you think?
Starting point is 00:43:56 You know, because to me, it looks like if I believe everything John Bolton and Mike Pompeo say. Which we do. Which we do without evidence whatsoever that, you know, Iran is really trying to start a war and we have no choice. They're attacking our oil tankers, except not really ours. Somebody else's privately owned oil tankers. And sure, the person who actually owns those oil tankers says that it's not them, but we have reliable... It's funny also, the people who own those oil tankers were just in Iran. Huh. Yeah, right. Shinzo Abe, right?
Starting point is 00:44:32 Yeah. So Shinzo Abe just met with the President Rouhani of Iran and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to basically... He went to ease tensions between the U.S. and Iran because Iran has very loudly stated they will not do any business with Trump. They have no interest in talking to Trump, negotiating anything with him. What's their fucking problem? Trump. What? He's fucking chill, dude. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:03 So they said they had no intention of starting a war. They have no intention of making nuclear weapons. They are not trying to fuck around with anybody. Please lift these sanctions. So naturally, they went and bombed an oil tanker. I don't know. It came out that the, I believe the Japanese oil tanker, the people running it, I'm sorry, I don't remember anyone's name.
Starting point is 00:45:22 The operators. The operators came out and said it's not possible that they came and shot- A torpedo. Like a torpedo from below because the attack came from above. There was some sort of drone attack. Above the water line. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:34 And whatever hit the tanker hit the top of the tanker. So it doesn't make sense. And then the Iranian Revolutionary Guard came and helped. So that's weird too. It's like classic visiting the scene of the crime and you commit the crime. We saw them removing mines. Who straps bombs or something and be like,
Starting point is 00:45:54 yo, the bombs didn't go off. Yo, that would be messed up if one of those errantly went. Let's go back. That'd be like robbing a bank and exploding the vault and then coming back and being like, hey, let me help you guys fix this. We made a mess. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:46:08 My bad. My bad. Hold on. I think I have a shop vac in the car. Yeah. There's no the Pentagon, the Trump administration. They're not sharing any evidence they have that Iran was directly involved. Iran has denied this.
Starting point is 00:46:20 And they have that grainy black and white. One of my least favorite closed circuit videos. It appears a grainy black and white video of the Iranian National Guard removing mines. But again, like we said. in the boats. That's their evidence. Like what you don't know is they reversed that video to fuck with us. Yeah. This is just so. That's the level of explanation they have going on.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Like Pompeo's being like, what you don't understand is what we don't understand is what you don't understand. So what that video presupposes is time moves forward. Yes. But yeah. I think they're playing a very dangerous game and um shinzo abe came out shinzo sorry i did not pronounce all those uh he came out and said like what you're doing is going to create an accidental war like you're pushing the wrong
Starting point is 00:47:15 buttons you're causing issues between a country that doesn't want to be fucked with because they're already dealing with an economic crisis because there's so many sanctions on them they can't do anything their Their money is worth nothing. They're in a very hard place. You're pushing them into a corner. And what do you think is going to happen? They're going to react eventually and be like, stop. That's why it's hard to know with this.
Starting point is 00:47:36 I can see why the US would exaggerate things to try and justify their increased aggression towards Iran. And I could also see Iran, because they have the ability to use proxies to affect things in the region, that they have no recourse because of these terrible fucking sanctions for, you know, all because Trump was like, let me blow up the Iran nuclear deal
Starting point is 00:47:56 and then use that as a pretext to begin punishing a country that was, for all intents and purposes, like following the agreement of not developing nuclear weapons. Right. And now he's back. First, he came up with him and Bolton.
Starting point is 00:48:08 And I think Pompeo had a list of like 18 things or something that Iran had to do before they would take the sanctions away. Clearly, Iran was like, we're not talking to you. Yeah. Like you blew up. Yeah. Are you a good person to deal with? And now he came back around.
Starting point is 00:48:20 I was like, all they have to do is call me and then we'll get back into the deal. And it doesn't make any sense. It's like you should have just not left the deal, obviously. And also, they're not going to call you. You've done too much to upset the region. It's a shit show. I think for anybody, I mean, I think we talked about this even back in May when those first tankers got sabotaged, that we're like were like yo this is not a war that anyone
Starting point is 00:48:47 needs wants or will be good for anybody anywhere except for maybe the people building the warped machine that's the only people who have been like there's strategically a war in iran is not good based on its size this is not iraq the people are not interested in being liberated. Like there's no the sort of forces at work that would sort of played into the Iraq war narrative are just not there. And also like the U.S. is completely isolated itself. Like no other country is like, yeah, we'll throw in on that. They're all like, don't do that. Everyone's trying to step in to ease the tensions. Right. And also they don't even, Trump says, I don't even want to do a regime change anymore. They don't believe him because they don't have a reason to believe him.
Starting point is 00:49:27 Also, you need to understand where these oil tankers were attacked. It's in the Strait of Hormuz. Hormuz, that that trade route is basically run by Iran. Like it's it's right next to Iran. They have a lot of kind of influence in that area. I I don't think it's in their best interest to go and start attacking oil tankers in their own area. Because then it really does look like they did it. And I think they're smarter than that, than to pull that kind of attention to themselves. And like you said, they have other,
Starting point is 00:49:54 you know, like there's Houthi rebels. There's people out here that can do dirty work and do do dirty work because they're rebels. And it's a very, I think it's too sensitive of a situation. I don't imagine Iran's going to go out there and give more reason for the U.S. to come after them. Yeah. Well, unless you're trying to just find out where these red lines are, too. Because if you're like, well, fuck,
Starting point is 00:50:18 like you're trying to fuck with me like that and tank our economy. Let me see how much shit I can do and see how much the world responds to us fucking pushing back on this shit yeah uh because and and again it's all it's just a terrible situation where a like the united states should just be acknowledging like well i mean it's never going to happen but they're like we're actually in an active process of trying to completely collapse this country yeah like without using military. And I guess that's not happening
Starting point is 00:50:45 on an aggressive timeline as John Bolton wants. Right. But like, please don't be fooled when you see the fucking foreign policy muppet John Bolton out here being like, we gotta fight them. I wonder what it is about attacking boats in gulfs because like that's how the vietnam war was started with
Starting point is 00:51:05 with the gulf of tonkin uh where it was it has now been acknowledged it is it was a made-up attack like that history has proven that uh you know this battle that they claimed like happened that the north vietnamese uh torpedo boats were uh trying to attack a uss destroyer that like that wasn't happening it was all just kind of bullshit to yeah i mean i think a key thing that the u.s plays hard on is the fact that they have put sanctions on they will put sanctions on other countries who continue to buy oil from Iran, which has pressured and strangled Iran's oil industry. So it's like their angle is like, well, look, of course they're attacking other oil tankers because they're pissed that we're not letting other people buy oil from them, which is the
Starting point is 00:51:56 unfortunate. It looks plausible. It looks like Iran would be upset about that. I mean, of course, there's no evidence, though. It's like, show me evidence, and then I'll believe what's really happening here. Yeah, there just needs to be more pressure in the United States for them to reach out or give some kind of overture that, like, I mean, it's not going to happen because clearly these fucking people, they're so hawkish right now. Like, they got the boners for a war right now. It's so obvious. Like, it's so transparent.
Starting point is 00:52:22 And I've read, like, Trump is anti-war trump doesn't want to have a war but like i don't i don't believe that i think that trump is just pro-trump and anything that's going to benefit him staying in office being a wartime president could potentially raise his numbers because you get that whole like yeah that bump sort of like patriotic fervor just starts you know um and it seems like we always were weirdly heading in this direction from the very beginning it felt like this is what i think yeah once he blew up the nuclear deal like yeah i was like yeah what the fuck is the point of this aside from trying to you know what what's happening now so and also bringing john bolton on i feel like is the most obvious the most obvious sort of like bring the most war hungry yeah you know uh psycho yeah
Starting point is 00:53:13 genuinely i wow i see him as just a mentally ill deranged person who cannot see clearly and has this bubble of insanity going on in his head and can't stop himself from just wanting to attack Iran. It's like, take a step back from yourself. Shave the little weird Muppet mustache off. No, his face looks so fucked up without that mustache. Well, that's what he needs. He needs to take a look at himself in the mirror. Yeah, he can.
Starting point is 00:53:36 I mean, these people who are so- Actually, I think- He's a sentient missile. In his right mind. Yeah, he's a sentient missile. To what his whole life is. I don't trust him. I think he's a dangerous human being, and I don't think he should be anywhere around what happens with Iran.
Starting point is 00:53:51 Yeah, and that's what most security experts say as well. Right. And I am a security expert. Oh, we all are. Yeah, yeah, yeah. At this point, it's not hard to be like, okay, I don't feel comfortable with that, and then become a security expert. With the amount of CCTV footage Jack watches, he is also a security expert. That's right.
Starting point is 00:54:08 And Anna, you were talking very specifically about this situation on the latest episode of Ethnically Ambiguous. Correct? Yes. So check out Ethnically Ambiguous episode that dropped today. To hear more about this, we get into further details about things. Right. Because we didn't do a good job. We brushed the surface.
Starting point is 00:54:27 Check out ethnically ambiguous for that. Yeah, this just reminds me of the run-up to the second Iraq war where it was just obvious to anybody paying attention who wasn't just fully swallowing the government's propaganda that it was being waged on false pretense. They had a benefit of a 9-11, though, to obscure people's mind. Yeah, because a 9-11 brings people together, approval ratings go up. Right.
Starting point is 00:54:54 Because they get freaked out. And they were probably at least three, four times more competent than this administration, which they weren't that competent. But I just feel like this administration, if it tries to stage a false flag, it's going to go bad. Was Cheney just a little smarter than Bolton? What are you saying, 9-11 is a false flag attack? No.
Starting point is 00:55:13 No. Whoa. Mark it. Cut it out. WMD evidence was false. Release it out of context. Got you, got you. He saw the CCTV.
Starting point is 00:55:22 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just saying the BLTs those weren't planes those were missiles alright we're gonna take a quick break we'll be right back

Starting point is 00:55:44 the situation is desperate. My name is Manuel Delia. I am one of the hosts of Crooks Everywhere, a podcast that unhurts the plot to murder a one-woman Wikileaks. Starting point is 00:56:46 Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it? Like you miss 100% of the shots you never take. Yeah. Rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself.

Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys. I just come here to play basketball every single day and that's what I focus on.
Starting point is 00:57:50 From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is braggadocious. She is unapologetically black. I love her. Starting point is 00:59:20 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And, all right, so Cuba Gooding Jr. Now we get to my sweet spot, baby. CCTV footage. Cuba Gooding Jr. is in trouble. He's been accused of groping a woman at a bar. And there's footage of the interaction that is just very strange.
Starting point is 01:00:07 It doesn't look, from what I saw, it looks like the biggest mistake he made was possibly touching this woman on her leg. So people who have analyzed it, CCTV footage experts, are saying that you can see him reach over and touch her chest. Oh. Yeah. So he's reaching over his girlfriend to do it. So it's very strange. And then there's this dude who walks up in the middle of it and just starts wagging his dick around. Well, not literally. It's like he's kind of dancing.
Starting point is 01:00:38 He's got honey in his hips. Right. He's got honey in his hips. He's got some honey in his hips. He's putting his dick within inches of Cuba in his girlfriend's face. And then he grabs Cuba by the neck and is giving him sweet wispies in the ear.
Starting point is 01:00:51 I don't know what they were talking about. The whole video just looks like a bunch of drunk motherfuckers. They look hammered. But yeah, we'll see. I know his lawyer, Cuba Gooding Jr.'s lawyer, I saw him make a comment. He's like, this is unbelievable. There's nothing that would suggest that my client did anything
Starting point is 01:01:08 and blah, blah, blah. I mean, we'll see what that video shows. Yeah, there's another angle. So there's one where you can see the actual event that's very grainy and from a distance, and then there's one that's closer that doesn't have a good angle on the actual event, but you see the people walking up and walking away from the event.
Starting point is 01:01:28 And in that video, you can tell two things. Cuba Gooding Jr. is fucked up. He looks real drunk. And also, he's wearing cargo pants. Oh, yeah. He's guilty. But you got that from looking at the cargo pants that he was fucked up right you're like he got cargo well he's fucked up yeah yeah yeah it wasn't anything
Starting point is 01:01:50 else that man got drunk or that man got dressed while drunk oh yeah he got drunk then he got dressed right yeah but cargos are coming back are they yeah i keep seeing them shits like people are like yeah these are cool cares. Pants or shorts? Well, no. I've seen pants. Interesting. And I've also seen cargo shorts. I just don't like these fashion cycles, man.
Starting point is 01:02:12 I wish I kept all my clothes from when I was a kid. Not that I could even wear them. Yeah. I feel like cargo shorts are less forgivable. Neither are forgivable. But cargo shorts, to me, should not exist. I mean, when I was wearing cargo shorts, it was a dark time yeah for all of us i used to wear them too and it was a dark time for all of us basically basic khaki cargo shorts absolutely yeah yeah i think that's all i wore
Starting point is 01:02:36 for like an entire summer was just everyone did yeah yeah for sure everybody did i i had some camouflage i had a pair of camouflage ones standard Okay, yeah, standard. No jeans, though? No denim? No denim. No jargos? No, no denim. I never wore jargos. Me neither.
Starting point is 01:02:49 You never wore jargos? I never wore jargos. Would you? I never owned jargos. Me neither. Okay. You can't prove otherwise, because those pictures have been destroyed. Oh, I got so excited.
Starting point is 01:02:59 I got an email from Taco Bell, and I thought it was about going to the Taco Bell hotel. No. I fucked up, and now I'm just on their fucking waiting list. Oh no. It says give dad something he wants. I feel bad.
Starting point is 01:03:10 I'm sorry I had to interrupt. I for a moment thought we were going to the Taco Bell hotel in Palm Springs. We're really trying to go. Oh man. Yum brands, please holler at us.
Starting point is 01:03:18 Is it open? No, no, it's going to be open in August, but they were saying in early June the reservation system would open up or people would begin to be able to get reservations.
Starting point is 01:03:30 Sorry to take that somewhere completely else. That's all right. You got to know what your brand is about. Weed and Taco Bell. I have a question. What is Cuba Gooding Jr.'s best movie? Poison Hood. Is it?
Starting point is 01:03:43 Yeah. I think so. That or Jerry Maguire. Jerry Maguire. I'd? Yeah. I think so. That or Jerry Maguire. Jerry Maguire. I'd say radio. Okay. Radio. Jerry Maguire.
Starting point is 01:03:51 Jerry Maguire. My grandparents are in Jerry Maguire. Are they? Yeah. My grandparents play... Who's his wife? Regina Hall or something? Yes.
Starting point is 01:03:59 They play Regina Hall's parents. First of all, my grandparents... Oh, during the football watching scene? When he gets injured. And my grandma's like, oh, girl. Oh, really? That's my grandparents. Yeah, my grandparents oh during the football watching scene when he gets injured and my grandma's like oh girl oh really that's my grandparents
Starting point is 01:04:07 yeah my grandparents are playing her parents really if you wanna yes yo they've been they're out here I've seen that movie that's amazing
Starting point is 01:04:14 a number of times also in Deep Impact their Blair Underwood's family wow they were just cause my uncle he's like a first AD he used to like
Starting point is 01:04:24 when they retired he was just getting them extra work. And then they're like, yo, get that old black couple. We need an old black couple. And they'll be like, you are now Blair Underwood's grieving family. Wasn't that Deep Impact? Blair Underwood? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:04:37 I did not see Deep Impact. Deep Impact was Morgan Freeman? Yes. Deep Impact. President Morgan Freeman. President Morgan Freeman. And then also. Yeah, he was in it.
Starting point is 01:04:44 Yep. Frodo, right? Elijah Wood. Uh-huh. President Morgan Freeman and then also. Yeah, he was in it. Yep. Frodo, right? Elijah Wood. Uh-huh. I don't know. And then that one dude who goes blind. Remember his, like he looked at the sun or some shit and he was all like blind, like when he was about to die.
Starting point is 01:04:57 Donald Trump? No, the dude, not Robert Duvall. Wasn't it Ron Eldard? Oh, I don't remember. I don't even know that name. That sounds like you just made that up. No, no. Yes, this dude. Yes. Yes. Fucking Ron Eldard? Oh, I don't remember. I don't even know that name. That sounds like you just made that up. No, no. Yes, this dude.
Starting point is 01:05:07 Yes, fucking Ron Eldard. He was like the man in the 90s. Ron Eldard? Yes. You won't recognize him like that, but remember this guy, this goofy dude? This is more his face from that period. I totally remember that dude. Yes.
Starting point is 01:05:22 I absolutely remember him. Anyway, he got his eyes. He looks like Gerard Depardieu meets Owen Wilson. Yeah, he does. Jirai Depardieu meets Fassbender. Fassbender. Yeah. Anyway, so yeah, check out, you know, Warren.
Starting point is 01:05:35 All right. Let's talk about some more old movies because Shaft, they're trying to update the Shaft universe with a new movie also called Shaft. Oh. The third movie in the Shaft franchise also called Shaft. They're all just called Shaft. Well, there was Shaft 2 back when it was Roundtree playing Shaft. Right.
Starting point is 01:05:56 But the latter day Shafts have always just been Shaft, huh? Yeah, but they're sequels. They take place in the same universe. Right. Yeah, but they're sequels. They take place in the same universe. Right, where- So they just release a new Shaft movie every decade or two and call it Shaft. And then who is- Because Roundtree was Samuel L. Jackson's uncle in the 90s or early 2000s Shaft, directed by John Singleton. That had a fucking great cast. Jeffrey Wright and also Batman, Christian Bale.
Starting point is 01:06:26 Christian Bale. Oh, yeah. But Jeffrey Wright, I mean, yo, he had people thinking, what was he, like, Puerto Rican or Dominican in that? Oh, scary as shit. I remember he was stabbing his chest and shit. Oh, man, I still remember that shit. Anyways, they have made a new Samuel L. Jackson
Starting point is 01:06:38 as second-generation chef. There's Richard Roundtree is his father. They've updated it. I don't know if something happened in between, and the character found out that his uncle was his father, because the last one was supposed to be his uncle. Now it's his father. And then Shaft has a son who is a soy boy in this movie.
Starting point is 01:07:00 Oh, boy. I just want to read a couple of the like advertisements for the new shaft uh hashtag shaft says this is from facebook uh and it's a image of samuel jackson with the sunglasses on and it says the only ipa i like is i'ma put yo ass through a windshield. Jack, let me read these. Oh, no. Yeah. Probably better. Another one. I'll avocado toast your punk ass. Okay.
Starting point is 01:07:32 I'll avocado toast your punk... Okay. Okay, and this other one. How the fuck do you milk an almond? I'm not drinking that shit. Uh-huh. Yeah. I mean... Oh, no.
Starting point is 01:07:39 I get... So, is it just sort of like old, salty dude can't take what the young generation is all like into avocado toast and almond milk? But then it gets really specifically homophobic and basically Shaft thinks his son is gay for liking almond milk. Oh boy. And for wearing skinny jeans. And it becomes apparently super problematic. See, why can't he like avocado toast? Right.
Starting point is 01:08:11 Why is liking avocado toast, which is just... A food. It's a food. It's a part of a plant on a piece of bread that's been toasted. How does that make you less masculine? I don't get that. Or less tough? Well, that's because it's sort of like this very superficial idea of masculinity,
Starting point is 01:08:30 right? Right. Well, because then this generation, they weren't raised by men that were as toxic as our fathers. Yeah. So it's like a Xerox of a Xerox, where the masculinity just changes a little bit, and they're like, what the fuck is this? Yeah. But I mean, that was sort of the thing about Shaft in general. Shaft is not woke by any fucking means. Right. He is like, this era too, that Blaxploitation era, fuck is this yeah but i mean that was sort of the thing about like shaft in general like shaft is
Starting point is 01:08:45 not woke by any fucking right he is like this this era to that black exploitation era was not about that but i guess as you evolve as the times go on you're like is this a person frozen in time well so this version of shaft is actually more regressive than the very first one. The first Shaft, Richard Roundtree, had a friend who was a bartender who was gay, and he was just cool with it. He didn't make a big deal about it. That was very progressive for the time.
Starting point is 01:09:15 Now, Samuel L. Jackson is just constantly apparently his catchphrase in this is you sure you like pussy? He says to his son repeatedly. Oh, wow. And at one point, the police chief says that his biggest problem is that his daughter wants to be known as Frank. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 01:09:35 So it's just nonstop toxic masculinity. Nice. Hit him with a trans joke. Who wrote this, approved it? Right. Why would Sam Jackson be like, great script?
Starting point is 01:09:50 Yeah. Well, I think for some, and I don't know, you know, like, I think for a black audience, you would just laugh a lot of this shit off.
Starting point is 01:09:58 Right. But I think that's, I think probably an issue a lot of people would take is that it's still a thing that would be laughed off. Right. And a lot of people are like, yo, this shit's hilarious. Because it reminds you of your problematic uncle or some shit. Right.
Starting point is 01:10:10 I was like, yo, bro, come on now. We don't do that shit anymore. But yeah, I think when you sort of distill it down to these points, you're like, yeah, that's not a great film. But I heard there's something about the director saying that he wanted this to start a discussion. Okay. Or something. Now, I don't know if that he wanted this to start a discussion. Okay. Or something. Now, I don't know if that's in the aftermath of all of these reviews. And you're like, yeah, actually, the reason it was so fucked up.
Starting point is 01:10:32 Right. Because I was trying to create this conversation around it and prevent people from seeing it because the reviews would be so bad. That would put off a lot of people who might have even been interested. If one side of the discussion is nowhere in your film then you're not starting the discussion right right oh i wonder if any yeah i wonder what if any of the other characters i'm sure there's a character who's like hey come on shaft we don't talk like that yeah shaft's answer that is like you sure you like pussy yes that's that's right that's shaft's son is son of shaft is the one who who's supposedly more progressive and woke,
Starting point is 01:11:05 but ultimately his journey is to become more like Samuel L. Jackson Shaft. He brutally guns down two dudes at a restaurant to win over his love interest, and she basically has an orgasm from seeing him be violent. So that's how the movie... So he just basically... It's that sort of standard he comes around to masculinity,
Starting point is 01:11:30 to toxic masculinity, because it's an action movie. But it's also... You don't need to tie that masculinity, the violence, to really broadly problematic views on sexuality and, you know, trans people.
Starting point is 01:11:47 And it just seems, we should go see it with our own eyes. Yeah, we should. Yeah. Cause I'm curious because, you know, black exploitation films were so exaggerated in general.
Starting point is 01:11:56 Right. You know that like, I know it's like, how do you do a, the balancing act of that kind of film now, given the minimal progress that's occurred societally you have a character who is gay who everybody's cool with and it has an actual like inner life as a character and isn't just a stereotype like the first shaft movie right this one like it i do think it's interesting that we are at a stage, in a lot of ways, you'd expect us to have come a long way since the 70s in terms of sexual politics.
Starting point is 01:12:31 And there's a lot of shit from the 70s that's super problematic. But I do think there's also ways that we've actually regressed a little bit because we do have this sort of conversation where it's like you know men's rights activists didn't exist in the 70s yeah well because they didn't have to they didn't have to man because our rights were fucking secured mainstream culture back then but that sort of reaction but that just shows you like it has to evolve right because then as sort of that's less accepted then you have to have this backlash of people who just want to maintain arcane patriarchy and just like well hey the one that writes yeah men's rights or something here yeah fuck so it's not a straight line progress no so what a weird thing for a dad to say to a son are you sure you like pussy? Yeah. It's such a weird...
Starting point is 01:13:25 Can you imagine if your dad said that? That would... I wouldn't even know what to say. I was like, what? Yeah. That would be... Shit, no, man. You need to get your ass kicked
Starting point is 01:13:35 for saying something like that. That's right. James, it's been a pleasure having you, man. Oh, man, it's been a pleasure coming on. Thanks for having me. Where can people find you? Listen to you. People can listen to me. I host and produce the podcast.
Starting point is 01:13:49 I'm too effing high, which is, it's a weekly podcast comes out on Tuesdays. Like I said, we get comedians high on marijuana, have them do comedic challenges. We also do a monthly show at the upright citizens brigade for the last three years.
Starting point is 01:14:04 And that's always a really fun audience smokes weed throughout the show. And it's just a really fun party. Is it true you've had super producer Anna Hosnia on your show? That's true. Wow. Anna was amazing. She was so fun on that show. She said she couldn't see straight.
Starting point is 01:14:20 Yeah. Because what'd y'all smoke? Like you said, it was dipped in wax and keefed up yeah had moon rocks in it too or some shit I think we
Starting point is 01:14:28 yeah we smoked we smoked some I think it was like a Kobani or something or not a Kobani what are those called Golani
Starting point is 01:14:36 Golani thank you I think Kobani is cigar isn't it Kubano Kohiba Kohiba that's what I was thinking
Starting point is 01:14:42 also there's a show coming out a TV show coming out on July 10th called Florida Girls. Yeah. I wrote on that show, and I also am a recurring character. So please check out Florida Girls. Along with scam goddess Lacey Mosley. That's right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:00 And then Twitter, Instagram, jmaz1111. You can find me there. Is there a tweet you've been enjoying or active social media? Yes. I think this tweet is very funny to me. So there's a senator from Alaska named, former senator, Mike Gravel. I'm not sure how you pronounce it. I follow him on Twitter and he always has some of the best sort of like shit-talking other politicians.
Starting point is 01:15:29 And I love this one. He tweeted, We're facing a global wave of right-wing authoritarianism bankrolled by legions of elites desperate to retain their wealth and power. their wealth and power. If your answer to this threat is the power of hope instead of transformative policy, you're a worthless shill named Beto O'Rourke. Holy shit. Wow.
Starting point is 01:15:58 I mean, major, major shade. Yeah. Who's the shade at, do you think? I didn't get the message. Yeah. Who's the shade at do you think I didn't get the message Yeah I think it was To I think it was probably to
Starting point is 01:16:10 Beto O'Rourke but I'm not sure To be determined Okay we'll reach out to him for a comment It's great too because he's also like 80 years old Is he really This senator He's retired
Starting point is 01:16:24 He's running for president but only For the messaging 80 years old. Is he really? This senator, he's, yeah, I mean, he's legitimate, he's retired. Like he's, I mean, he's running for president, but only for like the messaging, I feel like. So yeah, that's for the clicks.
Starting point is 01:16:32 Naming names. Miles, where can people find you? Find me and follow me on Twitter and Instagram at milesofgray. A couple of tweets I like,
Starting point is 01:16:43 you know, we're talking about weed. Juicy J, three six mafia. Shut the fuck up're talking about weed. Juicy J, 3-6 Mafia. Shut the fuck up. Oh, yeah. That Juicy J. He tweeted. His tweets are so fucking bad, first of all,
Starting point is 01:16:52 because he tweets like an old, washed dude who just smokes entirely too much weed and doesn't have, not very witty with his tweets all the time. But this one is just so funny. He tweeted, Would you rather smoke weed with the Democrats or the Republican Party? What?
Starting point is 01:17:06 Come on, Juicy J. Academy Award winner Juicy J with the fucking brain tingler. Wow. I was like, yeah, who do you want to get arrested by? Yeah. Who would I want to smoke weed with? Barack Obama or Mike Huckabee? God, what a question.
Starting point is 01:17:24 Actually, that's a good question. Well, actually, I would smoke Mike Huckabee into the fucking ground and just fuck with him. Yeah. And he's like, do you hate me? I'm like, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, everybody does. Mike, you didn't know?
Starting point is 01:17:35 Oh, yeah. Hey, have a good show, man. Get out there. Here's your bass. Do a solo with fucking Fieldy from Korn or whoever the fuck from Korn was. Oh, God. And another tweet i like is from danny fernandez who just sort of quote tweeted an image from a craigslist ad she says excited to
Starting point is 01:17:51 share my new job with y'all this is an ad that just was on post on craigslist it said massive booty sought for destruction purposes los angeles can your butt destroy looking for maximum roundness on a booty that can destroy things drop it on whatever it can smash or damage like a box or a cup a bottle a model airplane or whatever the lady in question must be lovely but all personalities are welcomed mean aggressive nice mellow whatever you could be a sweetheart just as long as your booty is mean i wonder if the gig is literally like, yeah, just recording stuff. Just drop the butt on this old shoebox.
Starting point is 01:18:30 Right. Dude, model airplane, a little specific, sir. Or miss, whoever it is. But I like that you put that in the ad. Like a model airplane. Is that because you had a parent who was into model airplanes and you just want to destroy that you're connecting that anchor with that is it that you were in the air force i do feel like there's a lot of uh model planes model cars like toy cars that get that people use like i i think i've read stories about them this is gonna sound like it's
Starting point is 01:19:02 me but that getting removed from people's asses. All right. Go on. That what? That people have model cars and model airplanes and model various things removed from their asses. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:17 But aren't they big ass? I mean, you couldn't put up. We're talking like a micro machine? Not a scale model. Like a Hot Wheels. I think like Hot Wheels. Like a car toy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:24 I'm assuming you saw this all on closed circuit television at some point. Definitely closed circuit television. Not. He's like that dude in Killing Eve who has all the wild hidden cameras everywhere. I haven't seen Killing Eve. Season two. You'll like it. Fleabag though.
Starting point is 01:19:39 Fleabag. Real good. Papademos tweeted, the 90s were two two separate decades one of which was actually a long 80s but 9-11 to present is all one decade and molly lambert tweeted correct the decades go past to 1966 1966 to 1971 1973 to 1982 1983 to 1994 1995 to 2000, 2001 to present. And I think that's right. I think she got it. Somebody pointed out that she did not include 1972 in a year.
Starting point is 01:20:14 Yeah, doesn't count. That's because that's the center. Oh, that's the center of the universe. Yeah, that's the fulcrum on which our universe swings. Isn't that when the Knicks won the NBA championship? Yeah, exactly. 72? Exactly. Mandela effect. Oh Knicks won the NBA championship? Yeah. Exactly. 72? Wow.
Starting point is 01:20:26 Exactly. Mandela. Oh, no. It was the Lakers. Ha ha. Oh, see, I remember it as the Knicks. Oh, wow. See?
Starting point is 01:20:34 There it is. Mandela. At Somali John tweeted, why about to go home and tell his family that the work trip went great? And Simon C. Holland tweeted tweeted the pharmacy will look you straight in the eyes with no line of people and tell you it will be 20 to 30 minutes for them to take some eye drops off the shelf behind them and put them in a little bag um it's 73 thanks oh also rachel snot tweeted i love the the NBA nice balls and ass
