Listen to the making of a rivalry, Caitlin Clark versus Angel Reese, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Elf Beauty, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of America's Crumbling Trendfrastructure. It's courtesy of Super Producer Brian. I am Jack. women's sports. called Twitter Circle. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this, Mike? Oh, yeah. I love it.
Starting point is 00:02:25 As it is, I think only about 150 people see my tweets, so I would then like to formalize that into a circle of smaller people who have access to my tweets. Organize that group into a circle. It's like Instagram's close friends thing.
Starting point is 00:02:41 You do your stories and shit like that. I remember when this was a thing on Facebook like 12 years ago when they were like okay shots fired i i don't know like that that's fine like it's great like okay so you're a tough guy huh so you saw this 12 years ago on facebook uh i remember when this was a trend 12 years ago miles bring me something else bring me something fresher kid jack at jack if you even work there but yeah i don't know this is just cool i guess if you if you so care i'm as it is i'm pretty uh private about most things anyway until unless i feel like the urge to tweet something so i'm pretty private about my tweets which is why i make them bad so only a few people see them um like to be honest though i don't i don't hate that twitter is behind that
Starting point is 00:03:33 like you know facebook's whole thing is like move move fast and break society break human civilization and uh you know twitter's like no no, we're going to just go pretty slow. They also want to, they're also playing their part, Twitter, you know. I'm sure, but like they're bad at it, which is kind of, I find endearing. Like their ads are so bad. I don't think, I use Twitter probably a hundred times more than any other social network. And I've been, like i've clicked on multiple instagram ads i don't think i've ever clicked on a twitter ad no because they're they
Starting point is 00:04:11 show up in the weirdest spot like it disrupts the rhythm of it yeah or like those promoted tweets and i'm like get the fuck out of here it's like dude check out these epic clapbacks in the in the comment sections i'm like huh and then i'm like this is get this they're like tv level in terms of their targeting it's yeah it's not uh do better man to be like 25 no it's great i love how bad they are at their job rather than you be in bed yeah rather than you clicking it's like hey man miss your puka shells you're like uh maybe instagram i'll tell you what it's about i'll see what it's about how does a tiktok compare like do you do they guys you can kind of tell man because people
Starting point is 00:04:52 talk like the flow is all fucked up yeah like you go from real people talking to camera and then ones it's like guys i need to tell you about something that's changing the world and you're like this is a fucking and then i look at the bottom like there's the fucking no gone no they're not convincing because they look it's just a different energy it's a different energy level like they just can't seamlessly blend in the advertising when like you have like sincere like people talking to cameras a lot of the content that's why i'm creating a truman show world full of people who are raised not realizing what they're creating is ads so they have that natural flow um but they're actually doing ads for tiktok yeah that's the plan you didn't need that further uh i mean i knew yeah you made it pretty clear about
Starting point is 00:05:40 two sentences before that but i'd like just to reiterate because they're born like the the film truman show starring jim carrey is the reference point and they're born in this world um here actually you can you just open up the link i just sent you yep um wait it looks like that's a trailer for the truman show um except i photoshopped dollar signs over uh all the trees this is what you sent me looks like a crudely animated short of shrek making love to groot from garth oh shit wrong link wrong link don't look at that don't look at that uh here send it to me later okay uh kid rock is trending baby this is stupid this guy nick adams you know in usa nick adams on usa uh has tweeted this thing because taylor swift obviously at the vma we touched on and she's got
Starting point is 00:06:36 an album coming out and nick adams is like tweeting quote Kid Rock should release a new album the same day as Taylor Swift. People are craving real music with thought-provoking and emotional lyrics. Who better to give it to them than Kid Rock? Is this a bit? All caps, guarantee his album would outsell and outclass her. Who? Is this a bit? No, he's like a full-on you know right wing person he's from australia though nick um that's brian just sent us another one he said
Starting point is 00:07:16 june 23rd of this year kid rock is far more popular than woke Beyonce. That's so funny. Just he has like this fatal flaw where he's, it's like the kid from Royal Tenenbaums who can't see how big things are. This guy just like can't accurately judge the popularity of Kid Rock. Also like it's so sad
Starting point is 00:07:42 and it's like, it just has the vibe of like i wish my dad would come home because he's like a hero and bob it's like that's not what's happening at all you're you're soothing yourself with this idea also i i get it kid rock probably wouldn't spend more than three weeks making an album anyway so yeah you might be able to get that done in time if he just heard you right now uh so we're thinking about we're thinking about damn kid rock should make a movie i guarantee it would win best picture and out earn avatar too nobody wants to see that that's so fucking that but the the the energy of this tweet is really hilarious to me. Because in his mind, the next thing is, and that'll show him.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Right. Huh? Okay. Yeah. Go ahead. Face you bunch of losers. Nobody likes Taylor Swift. What could be more thought-provoking than,
Starting point is 00:08:39 Bah-wit-da-bah-da-bang-da-bang, diggy-diggygy said the boogie said up jump the boogie okay which is now you're gonna pull his old stuff and yes it was a little bit more cerebral also you're ripping off a black artist that's the sugar hill gang you want to say up jump the boogie for the rhythm of the boogie to be come on now yeah that but that's his old stuff he's had much more original stuff like that new one that is basically a note for note remake of werewolves of london you mean what about we the people remember that one that one is good actually it's coming to town we gotta shut our borders down fuck you fuck you you trust fund fake ass whatever the fuck you are
Starting point is 00:09:30 get out of here fuck facebook fuck twitter too remember that shit the twitter too and that's what we gonna do it's like your dad had to write a rap for like a work wear your mask take your
Starting point is 00:09:46 pills now a whole generation's mentally ill i mean bars that like the first one no good but fucking on that last one no bars no service no bars uh google play is trending yeah um this this just pisses me off all right okay ted this kicks me right off all right what's going on so true social the president you call it pay less twitter i call it truth social okay i'm sorry and, I did capitalize the T in truth and the C in social, weirdly. Still not approved for the Android App Store because of there's, what, no content moderation? Give me a break, Google.
Starting point is 00:10:42 What the frick? Wait, has it been approved of the apple store yeah that's how people are using it jesus christ yeah apple apple you're the best you're the best company in the world according to recent guests uh not just company people force for good in the world yeah i don't know i mean it's just funny when google when they're like bro like come on man it's fucking violent rhetoric on there what what huh yeah google when google stands up and is like sorry we can't do it you know you're in trouble yeah um then that's it's bad and uh even google can't do it. You know you're in trouble. It's bad. Even Google can't find a way to appease the mob.
Starting point is 00:11:30 All right. Let's take a quick break, Miles, shall we? And then we'll come back. All right. Okay. All right. Fun. I concur.
Starting point is 00:11:36 Bye. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions. Like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or, can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Santer. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career
Starting point is 00:12:34 without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church,
Starting point is 00:13:07 an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling first-hand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys.
Starting point is 00:14:05 I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire?
Starting point is 00:14:22 Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two
Starting point is 00:14:51 assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI
Starting point is 00:15:25 in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And so we're labor unions. They're back, baby. They're hot again. I mean, they're popular. They're popping. They're not fully back where all the workers are represented.
Starting point is 00:16:02 But they're popular. I now can stop paying attention to the news. Labor unions are back. All right. Better than ever. No. So this is interesting. This is I mean, this is a news everywhere.
Starting point is 00:16:14 But the top story on Yahoo, which is usually stuff like, you know, Trump said this thing you'll never believe. Or like Nicole Brown Simpson's last meal was this. Right. You won't guess how it was prepared. So poll shows historic shift in attitudes about labor unions. They are more popular than they've ever been since 1965. Big year.
Starting point is 00:16:41 When we actually had labor unions. Big year. That's pretty wild uh yeah holy shit i mean again makes sense you know people are really realizing how fucked up their work situations are in a lot of cases and they're like do we if we act collectively this is probably the way to make my life feel like uh something that isn't completely inhumane. So long may it last. I mean, the shitty part of it is this headline is probably triggered millions more in spending from like Amazon, Starbucks, Chipotle, like every, you know,
Starting point is 00:17:18 company that's like a mass employer. I'm sure they are. They're all they're probably in a group thread. They're like, OK, so all they're probably in a group thread they're like okay so um they've probably already been on a group that for years what the fuck am i saying but they're probably hey man we need everybody throwing them you ramp up the fascism because uh this is getting out of hand so yeah i i say you know keep it going keep it going uh if you if you see people picketing outside find out what it's about and make sure you're on the right side of that Macron trending because
Starting point is 00:17:49 Donald Trump has apparently been bragging that he knows intimate details about Macron's sex life and that is something that we talked about before that the intelligence reports that he has access to a lot of the intelligence reports that he has access to. This really, like a lot of the intelligence stuff just really triple underlines how much he should never have been the president.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Yeah. He has access. Talk about somebody who just... And you can just say that flippantly? Who cannot have access to that sort of information. You know, this also, though, sounds like some shit he would say because he was humiliated by how horny melania was yeah when they first met remember that was like a whole
Starting point is 00:18:31 thing where they're like yo bro like emmanuel is wasn't it also ivanka or was ivanka ivanka was trudeau i think and or one of them whatever woman that he covets was interacting with uh macron and i'm sure he's like that feels like a thing he's like yeah i mean you know i've got i've got intel on how he how he fucks not good not dude you're like what someone's like okay so do you still want your chicken fried steak for lunch yes yes yes extra sloppy it is it is so inhumane that like the president of the united states has that information that like yeah that you like go into a meeting and the president is just like you know has looked at pictures of you and your wife having sex because there is such a thing as the cia that's dark, man. Bad country.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Bad timeline we live in. Yeah. He's like, you know, I've got all intel. We know all about him, how he looks naked, how he bones. Let's just say the French would call him a champignon. You're like, dude, that's you, sir. Anyways, that is why just like now i want the tapes of them meeting where he's like dangling this information and like implying in very unsubtle terms that he like knows things
Starting point is 00:19:56 about him and like teasing him for various things like oh man uh anyways elon musk is trending because this is just like this is what he does he so he went on twitter retweeted a bbc article about the death of the dinosaurs okay said this will happen again just a matter of time that's cool which is true like probably true like i think most scientists would agree with that but it's like stoner high school star not even college stoner but because this is like everybody's like or the sun will explode eventually oh my god i had like a older relative be like the brain on that guy huh i mean he's his level of thinking is just next level. And I think that's how most of the country thinks of him. And it's like, no, he's just... He's a smart guy, but he shitposts.
Starting point is 00:20:55 He's a shitposter and he's good at branding and marketing. Yeah, pull yourself up by your emerald... By your emerald bootstraps like the rest of us. By your emerald mine bootstraps, daddy. Also, I just love that his dad hates him, which makes perfect sense. His dad, there's some wild shit with his dad that is too upsetting to mention.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Oh, yeah, I'm sure. I think we've already mentioned it, but- Probably a full behind the bastards series. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyways, Jackson, Mississippi is trending because of just a, as they discuss on It Could Happen Here, the crumbles, like as, you know, climate, the climate crisis worsens. It's not this big, massive dystopia.
Starting point is 00:21:39 All of a sudden, what it looks like instead is just like various systems crumbling at various times and small scale dystopia jackson mississippi is without running water without reliable running water um for the foreseeable future there will be no reliable running water in jackson uh impacting up to 180 000 people because of flooding and a water pump yeah they're out here like distributing bottled water and saying like try not to use it if you have to use water boil it for three minutes before like interacting with it internally yeah uh yeah it's that really my god like the idea of being like yeah it's just so you know what's coming out of there
Starting point is 00:22:25 is unusable yeah unless you properly sanitize it yeah this is all i mean yeah just i mean i know this isn't this is because of the river was rising right because of the flooding yeah there's flooding but then a treatment plant got damaged right and like just like the knock-on effects of all that and this is kind of like, there was that story yesterday. I don't know if you saw about one of like these, uh, like home insurance providers are kind of, they're beginning to look at if it's even possible to do business in Florida. And they're like, yeah, we might not be doing too much business there. Projections. And then that like Greenland ice cap, it was like zombie ice news too, that came out.
Starting point is 00:23:04 So a lot of, a lot of So a lot of stuff happening around. Hey, a lot of stuff. You know what I mean? A lot of stuff. Hey, but right now it's fine. Yeah. And I'll hold on to that. All right.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Well, those are some of the things that are trending on this August 30th. We are back tomorrow with a whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy and we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Hey, I'm Gianna
