Hello, the internet, and welcome to this best and worst of the decade of Dirty Daily Zeitgeist! I don't know if that even made sense, but I'm Jack. I'm joined by super producer Anna
Starting point is 00:02:31 Hosmy. Everyone has fallen apart. And two wonderful guests. Caitlin Durante. Hi. And Shireen Laniunas. I don't know what the fuck I walked into. I regret everything.
Starting point is 00:02:48 I know. I apologize. We just pulled Shireen in here as she walked in the building. She did not have any time to prep. And I had plenty of time to prep and I did not prep anything. So I'm just going to be commenting on everybody else's. So basically the idea is I wanted everybody to
Starting point is 00:03:13 come with a underrated, overrated, and myth about some different areas. Movie, music, person, news story, innovation. So, yeah. And everybody filled out parts of that.
Starting point is 00:03:33 And so we're just going to go through. This will be sort of our decade in review. So, guys, let's talk about movies up top. I think that's one that everybody has an opinion of about what is your overrated movie or movie trend of the decade. Caitlin Durante. Thank you so much for giving me this platform. I think you only wanted one from every category but I did list like five. I also have like several underrateds in movies.
Starting point is 00:04:10 I have a whole category that I made up that you did not ask for. I have several movies in that category. Okay, starting with our overrated. La La Land. That was my first one! That was Sophie Lichterman's too oh we are not original
Starting point is 00:04:29 same no we're just all on the same page yeah it sucked it sucked a lot uh i also hated i liked it just joking i love la la land uh number two drive Can't stand it. Wow, you do not like Riga. Riga. Riga. I think that's part of it. Riga. I don't mind Riga, but I just don't like that movie at all.
Starting point is 00:04:57 I also did not care for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Thought that was highly overrated. I've been here for like maybe five minutes and I got both of those already. I have a few more. Let's see if you got these. Okay, well. Hereditary. Yeah, I said it. It's overrated in K.
Starting point is 00:05:15 No, you just said it. I did. Spring Breakers. Spring Breakers. That was on a lot of lists of people's best movies of the decade. Yeah, and I was like, what are you talking about? It was just like a horny guy movie made by a horny dude. I know a lot of people who love it, though, and I simply don't understand.
Starting point is 00:05:36 The protagonist leaves 30 minutes into the movie. Harmony and Corinne has a lesion of such dedicated fuckboys. Truly. Yes. The same guys are just like, beach bum, perfect movie. Beach bum. Ugh. And then I think the same applies. These three directors, so Yargos Whatever's Face, who did Hereditary in Midsommar.
Starting point is 00:05:59 I may have gotten his name wrong. Yargos. Harmony Korine, I can't stand. And then, or no, sorry. Yargos is the lobster. That's my other movie. Yeah, yeah, I was going to say. Overrated lobster?
Starting point is 00:06:11 Lobster's also on my list of overrated. Did you like Dogtooth? No, I don't. I didn't. I don't like this movie. I like Yargos. I like Dogtooth. I can't stand him.
Starting point is 00:06:20 And then, wait, who did Hereditary in Midsommar? That was Ari Aster. Ari Aster. Forget it. Dog Tooth is 2009, so we're not allowed to talk about it. Yeah, well, you brought it up, Jack. Yeah, your fault. My bad.
Starting point is 00:06:35 My bad. Miles is, I don't know. Miles' overrated movie is all films with a white savior theme. Oh, sure. Of course. I mean, that's a cop out. I feel like you could just name a movie. Green Book.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Fine. Yeah, Green Book. I mean, no one liked Green Book. Did anyone like Green Book? Yeah, what the fucking best picture Oscar award? No, it didn't. Yes, it did. No, that was last year.
Starting point is 00:07:01 No, that was last year. Yeah, I fucking hate Green Book. I thought it was a mistake. No, that was last year. No, that was last year. Yeah, I fucking hate Green Book. And Miles' under is Blockers. Blockers was great. Miles loves Blockers.
Starting point is 00:07:13 I also think he only started watching movies last year. It is a fun movie, though. It is. I think overrated overall is the how much do I want my mentions just completely blown up a lot the Marvel movies
Starting point is 00:07:34 overrated okay Martin Scorsese I know it's not cinema it's not cinema I also think Martin Scorsese's movies are overrated I mean I put the Irishman on there. Overrated, yeah. No, I feel you on that. Fuck the Irishman.
Starting point is 00:07:49 It's just like, it's an okay movie but I couldn't get past the weird de-aging shit. I mean, everyone looks a little bit smoother, but at the end of the day they're still hunched over melty wax puppets pretending to be young again
Starting point is 00:08:06 and that was just sad as hell to me that was so sad Shireen coming in with the hottest of takes and more overrated movies than anyone even though she only had two minutes to prepare no but really that was more sad than any of the plot
Starting point is 00:08:21 seeing these old men pretending to be young I don't know. I thought the most effective performance was when Joe Pesci was pretending to be slightly older than he was when he was like the old kid. That was the whole movie.
Starting point is 00:08:38 They were all just like every other scene like okay now it's been two years. Now I'm really old. Now it's two years. I also was very frustrated that they, like, this movie spans all of the, like, 40s, 50s, 60s, and they played one song the whole time just over and over again. Which is, like, a fine song in the still of the night. All that CGI cost money. Yeah. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:09:05 You think Scorsese's made of money? No, I just think Scorsese should hire people with good taste in music to pick soundtracks for him. Not possible. Like you. Do you want to be his sound? What? No. I don't even like him.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Music supervisor? Like that. Okay. Like that. Like Kubrick used to use his daughter, and she had great taste in music. You're not going to ask me? Oh, did I forget to ask you? Wow.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Oh, man. Jack, erasing women from the conversation. So if you know, I'm going to go home and see my father so you're foreshadowing. Super producer Anna Hosnier, what is your overrated movie? Overrated? Dunkirk I'm over it Fuck it It was boring, there were no fucking women
Starting point is 00:09:53 We get it, war happened Enough of these war movies that take 45 minutes For one scene to happen I can't do it anymore Oh the one where they were She's like can I help you? And they're like get the fuck out of where they're like she's like can I help you and they're like get the fuck out of here
Starting point is 00:10:06 exactly they're like rude to her she's like she's a nurse she's trying to help you okay okay okay
Starting point is 00:10:11 okay can't stand you know I'm not a huge Christopher Nolan person really I liked Inception because I like
Starting point is 00:10:19 I like the visuals and how the story was really interesting but then he killed it for me when he said it was a filmmaking metaphor. I was like, Inception came out in 2010.
Starting point is 00:10:28 So that is a movie this decade. Okay. Well, whatever. So, what do you want me to say? Guys, I have very interesting insights to offer.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Underrated. Thanks for asking. I would say Spotlight. Oh, sure. I feel like it went by and people were just kind of like, yeah, I mean, that was Catholic priest. It did win Best Picture, right? Yeah, but then no one ever spoke about it again.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Yeah, it's not in the conversations that people are having. Yeah, for the year-enders. But also anything by Taika Waititi. Not Thor. I mean, like, his, like, true, like, boy, hunt for the wilder people. Yeah. What we do in the shadows.
Starting point is 00:11:16 I feel like there's one more I'm forgetting. Jojo Rabbit. He just got Jojo Rabbit out. No, the other, the, he, this is all previous to, to like Blockbuster Taika. I'm talking like. Right. I'm talking like working with the New Zealand Film Administration Academy or whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:11:33 Yeah. YTT. Because he was killing it. He is great. He's the great. I feel like he's one of the great film comedy writers of our time. He is hilarious. He's a great actor.
Starting point is 00:11:48 That's the other thing. He doesn't, he directs a lot, but he doesn't show up in a lot of his films unless, you know, it's like here or there he's there. He's around. But when he does,
Starting point is 00:11:55 and this is the most important thing is that he's hot. He's like, fuck a ball. Yeah. He's rock hard at all times. His. What? Also, the best thing about him him if you follow him on instagram he only posts photos that other people took of him trying to sleep on set and it's
Starting point is 00:12:15 hilarious that's a fun present and it's like he'll just try and sleep anywhere where it's like five different like chairs lined up to create a bed for him or like he's like asleep in a baby stroller or just wherever he can catch a quick Z he's there I love that about him Sophie Lichterman's Underrated which I like is Bridesmaids oh yeah I mean everyone likes
Starting point is 00:12:37 that movie though I think so but maybe it's just another thing of like people don't really talk about it anymore you guys ever see that movie Submarine it's on my list of people don't really talk about it anymore. It's not on their year-end list. Right, right, right. You guys ever see that movie Submarine? It's on my list, but I have not seen it. Oh, I thought you meant it's on your list of- Oh, my watch list. Sorry, sorry, my watch list.
Starting point is 00:12:55 It came out in 2010. I haven't seen it. Anyways. Can I share my underrateds? Yes. I would like to, too, when I get permission. You go first, Shreen. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:13:03 You're welcome. I have a couple underrateds. One of them is the Nathan For You special, Finding Frances, which is like a feature length thing. Yes! I'm obsessed with Nathan Fielder. He is the funniest.
Starting point is 00:13:16 His show is the best thing. It's the best. It's my favorite kind of comedy ever. And that special, it's like an 85 minute finale, essentially. And it is so, so good. It's incredible.
Starting point is 00:13:30 So that's one of my underrateds. No one talks about it. Do you have any that are actually movies? Yeah. I'm sorry. Wow, shots. She loves Love Actually. There's one, I saw this one,
Starting point is 00:13:40 not when it came out, because I didn't even hear of it until someone told me about it, but Brigsby Bear. No one talks about Brigsby Bear. It's this ending movie with Kyle Mooney. i didn't even hear of it until someone told me about it but brigsby bear no one talks about brigsby bear it's kyle mooney yeah it is so funny is it i really liked it um it's so underrated uh i thought spider-man is the spider-verse was really fun time oh my god the best movie of the ever uh and then i uh the handmaiden which was this yeah in 2016 i have told so many people fuck you jack no no i'm just laughing
Starting point is 00:14:09 at my own reaction to things every time i bring it up everyone's like the handmaid's tale and i'm like no there's a movie yeah there's a movie a korean beautiful fucking movie that's called the handmaiden it's been on amazon this entire time no one fucking fucking watches it. It is so beautiful. It's such a good story. It is so good. It is so good. Everyone needs to watch The Handmaiden. A South Korean erotic psychological thriller. Yes. It is so beautiful. And my last one
Starting point is 00:14:36 is one it's 2011. What's this decade? Yeah, that counts. This movie called Perfect Sense. It's like a really dramatic movie with Eva Green and it's like a really dramatic movie with Eva Green and it's like a sci-fi
Starting point is 00:14:48 that everyone loses their senses one by one and the reason why I love this movie is that I still listen to the soundtrack to go to sleep it's like this beautiful
Starting point is 00:14:56 like orchestral instrumental piano music soundtrack it is so so lovely and it's a really beautiful movie
Starting point is 00:15:03 but no one fucking knows about it yeah I didn't. The Handmaiden is by the guy who made Oldboy. Yeah. Oh, shit. That's one of my favorite movies of all time. You love Oldboy? That shit bums me out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:15 I mean, it's not like a fun romp. It's not on the romp-o-mator. Caitlin romp-o-mator. But the fact that you love Oldboy and had no idea that The Handmaiden existed, that is criminal. Proves your point. That's criminal.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Handmaiden is number one underrated. Okay. Okay, your floor. Thank you so much. The Handmaiden is number one on my underrated list. Oh, is it? Yes. Damn.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Followed by. Same number one. Well, I listed it first. I'm not necessarily ranking them. Followed by. These'm not necessarily ranking them. These are lesser underrated movies, just so people know. No, because what I had listed last are Paddington and Paddington 2, which I still feel are underrated because there are large swaths of people who do not think that they're like, oh, you like that movie? This is supposed to be a dumb kids movie, right? No one realizes.
Starting point is 00:16:09 See, Brigsby Bear was on my radar. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm aware of all bear content out there because of Paddington and Paddington 2. Jack the Bear? Jack the Bear? Isn't that a movie? Is it? Never mind.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Don't pay no attention to me. But the argument, like the children argument, I think it applies to my underrated Spider-Verse because everyone's like, oh, it's a cartoon. It's an animated. It's superhero. Ew.
Starting point is 00:16:30 But it's such a good movie. So good. And I love it. It's great. And then also Dora and the Lost City is one of the best movies of the decade. What? I have not seen it.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Holy shit. It's again, it's maybe perhaps, okay, it's just so funny. Everyone needs to see it. It's great. Everyone brushed it aside when it came out. I think it's a kids movie. What, Dora?
Starting point is 00:16:51 I saw it. It was fun. It's good. Jack the Bear is a movie, according to Sophie Lichterman. Sorry to doubt you. Where is Sophie right now? She's in the other room listening. Listening and sending me messages. This is strange.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Okay, so then I have the category that you did not ask me to list movies for, which is appropriately rated movies, a.k.a. what I think are the best movies of the decade, which that other people also agree are the best. Okay. So on this list, I have Mad Max Fury Road. Yeah. See, Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse I put on this list because I feel like
Starting point is 00:17:26 it is making lists it's making the list decade end the social network ooh I like it too but I was going to be ashamed
Starting point is 00:17:35 of admitting it I was too scared I'm not ashamed alright I'm here for it good and even though you know
Starting point is 00:17:42 Aaron Sorkin is whatever and some of the other people who worked on it are blah blah blah. But like it's a great movie. Trent Reznor. That movie belongs to Trent Reznor. Tell me about it. Hot take. Parasite, of course. Oh yeah, of course. And Get Out. Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:00 I think they're all appropriately highly rated. Yeah, I like that category. Thank you. I agree with everything you said. I don't know. I mean. Yeah. I like that category. Thank you. I agree with everything you said. I don't know. I mean, I'm not like a huge social network fan, but I love Parasite and I love, what was the one before that one that you said that I was not into? Fury Road?
Starting point is 00:18:17 Oh, Get Out. Get Out. Or Get Out, yeah. Get Out and Parasite. Yeah. Get Out is, will be, I feel like, the movie that people look back on this decade and are like, that is the movie of the decade, and it didn't even win the Academy. Don't remind me.
Starting point is 00:18:31 It won Best Screenplay. That was it. Yeah. Screenplays are stupid. What's your underrated? I told you. She said. You did?
Starting point is 00:18:39 Yeah. Any film by Taika Waititi and Spotlight. Who are you again? I'm your daughter. All right. Did I miss anyone's underrated? Nick didn't give us an underrated. Oh, are we doing myths about movies?
Starting point is 00:18:53 Oh, yeah. Do we have any myths? I got one that the movie The House with Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler isn't hilarious. That's a myth. It's so funny. It's fucking funny. It's hilarious. Is it?
Starting point is 00:19:02 I didn't see it. I've never seen it. It has one of the hardest laughs that I've had in the past. Yes. Yeah. I almost, maybe I did pee myself a little. It involves Jeremy Renner. Oh, baby.
Starting point is 00:19:15 It's the funniest thing I've ever seen. You know, it starts out slow, but it picks up, and people hate it. It has the worst reviews, but I find it so funny. Yeah. I don't like Renner. It's not like the movie's about him. He's just a random... You would like this
Starting point is 00:19:33 because of what happens to Renner. Jeremy Renner is my person of the decade. He, I think, is underrated as a performer now because of his Marvel shit.
Starting point is 00:19:46 But his performance in The Town is fucking good. I hate The Town. He definitely has good performances. He's so good in The Town. I hate Ben Affleck. I hate The Town. Ben Affleck? Ben Affleck.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Because you're very benevolent about Ben Affleck? Ben Affleck. I don't know. Ben Affleck. Ben Affleck. Wow. Oh, shit. don't know. Ben Affleck. Ben Affleck. Wow. Oh, shit. I heard that here first.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Ben Affleck. Cut to news story of him tomorrow going back to rehab because you hurt his feelings so hard. Fuck that guy. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Damn. All right. You guys ready for Dan's takes now that he's on his way to Europe? Dan said, overrated, real CGI remakes
Starting point is 00:20:24 of Disney classics. Lion King was trash. Get the fuck out. On the other hand, different styles of animation, less Pixar, more Into the Spider Verse or Kubo. Although I will say there were some good Pixar
Starting point is 00:20:39 movies this decade. Like Toy Story 4. Toy Story 4, which I really like. I think they did a good job with sequels this decade, actually. Yeah, they started making, like, at a certain point, they were like,
Starting point is 00:20:54 hey, you know what? Even if the, like, sequels can be better than the previous movies, and sometimes the sequel can be, like, good, and the previous movies can be terrible, like the Fast and the Furious
Starting point is 00:21:06 films and then he said myth premium food is not the upgrade that movie theaters need which I agree with and then he said weed smoking sections are man okay still he said it just like that why don't you do what we all do which is vape
Starting point is 00:21:22 in our hoodies okay right exactly what's wrong with this guy Why don't you do what we all do, which is vape in our hoodies, okay? Right. Exactly. What's wrong with this guy? All right. And Dan is a musician, so let's use him to vault into the music section. But before we do that, we're going to take a quick break. Hello, everyone.

Starting point is 00:29:13 Maybe you can relate to it as well. As a woman, I think it's a very powerful feeling to have a job at which you're able to see improvements in real time. On the show, we dissect everything going on in the game straight from the biggest players in the world. Starting point is 00:29:44 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. And we're back. And all right. Dan says, overrated. People releasing albums that are like 20 plus tracks. It doesn't need to be that long. I would agree with that. I would too.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Just as like, if you have that much content, like split it up. Like save the rest of it for next year. And then you can be like, yeah, I put out a whole other album. And people will be impressed that you're putting out like an album every year. Yeah. You know? As somebody who likes to be very selective in the amount of content that I put out, I totally identify with this.
Starting point is 00:30:26 What's everybody's overrated musical thing? Taylor Swift. Fuck Taylor Swift. She is so overrated. Yeah, she was on mine. All her songs sound the same. I don't like her personality. Her personality is fine, whatever. I'm not judging her personality.
Starting point is 00:30:42 But I think she's overrated. There are so many talented people out there. Like, she didn't time. I think they named her Entertainer of the Decade. Right? Yeah. Somebody did. Billboard.
Starting point is 00:30:53 Something. I don't know. I just think she's just, I'm over it. She should have went, like, White Girl of the Decade. And then she gave a speech about, like, if I was a man, I would just be the man or something. Like, I only get like people, no one ever says, I like his music, but there's something about him I don't like. Or like, whatever. She gave a speech where she was basically like, I'm only discriminated because I'm a woman.
Starting point is 00:31:15 But I was like, no, it's because you're bad. Right. And also, not true. People say that all the time. Yeah, right. Like Kanye West. Exactly. When he like went up and did that thing.
Starting point is 00:31:25 People were like, I hate him exactly um i would agree that she's like when i uh i talk about how in the 60s the year that give me shelter the song that like people associate in movies with the 60s came out the number one song that year was Sugar Sugar by the Archie band. Like by the Archies. Sing it for us, please. Sugar Sugar Keep going. Yeah, honey, honey
Starting point is 00:31:56 We can't afford this. You are my candy girl. Anyways, Gimme Shelter didn't even come out as a single. I feel like Taylor Swift will be the thing we look back on and we're like, oh yeah, people loved Taylor Swift back then, even though we'll all be listening to Nickelback. Wasn't there the whole thing where she like,
Starting point is 00:32:19 there was a long time where people kept being like, hey, Taylor, what do you think about white supremacy? It's bad, right? And she just like wouldn't comment. And then recently she was just like, well, I didn't think it would help to say that it was bad. And it's like,
Starting point is 00:32:34 what are you talking about? It's like all your fans started using you. It's white feminism 101 to only care about your own fucking thing and not give a shit about anyone else. And then she's like, well, I don't want to be political. But really her not being political was an act of
Starting point is 00:32:46 politics. Right. She only came out and said something because her fans were being like she's our white queen. Exactly. She's a fucking hack. What's everybody does anybody have a overrated anyone any other overrated
Starting point is 00:33:01 music? Ed Sheeran. Does anyone actually like his music, though? I guess. I mean, he's on there. Okay, I don't know if anyone saw the movie Yesterday, but he basically is in that movie saying, I'm the second best musician of all time behind the Beatles. Isn't that wild?
Starting point is 00:33:17 But he thinks he's great. But he's probably making fun of himself, right? Who knows? I can't tell. It's not super clear, but I cannot stand the sound of any of his songs. I have a personal vendetta against him only because
Starting point is 00:33:30 people think he's a similar name to me. Oh sure. Ed Sheeran Yunus? I just don't like that he has a similar name. I want to be unique. What else? Jack, I have one that's going to hurt you, but it's Chance the Rapper.
Starting point is 00:33:48 Oh. That doesn't hurt me. Oh, he's over it? Over it. Over it. Wow, that was quick. A month ago, you were singing his praises. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:55 I just, there's something about the, like, he's such a good guy. Oh, yeah. It bums me out. I don't know why. It's so, like, it feels so, like. I love acid rap. Okay, acid. It bums me out. I don't know why. It's so like, it feels so like... I love acid rap. Okay, acid rap was great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:10 The Big Day was bad. The Big Day is trash as fuck. I hate it. And I was like, okay, so you get some, you make some money and all of a sudden you put out, like, what are we doing here?
Starting point is 00:34:19 Coloring book is good too. I like... Also, I would say Drake. Drake is overrated. Thank you. He's very overrated. I think, yeah. Frank Ocean. I think people,
Starting point is 00:34:30 like Drake will be the Archie band of this decade, but Frank Ocean will be the gimme shelter. I love Frank Ocean. He's so great. He's so great.
Starting point is 00:34:38 He's underrated and also underrated Dev Hines. I'm obsessed with Dev Hines. Blood Orange is my, on Spotify, my artist of the whatever, like the person I love the most.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Oh really? Yeah. But like no one, I mean, no one else would have him as their top, but everyone should because he's great
Starting point is 00:34:52 and I love Blood Orange. Yeah, Blood Orange is good. Yeah, Dev Hines, underrated. Sorry, that made me think of the movie Tangerine,
Starting point is 00:34:57 which is another underrated movie of the decade. And Florida Project. Florida Project also underrated. I haven't seen it yet. Is it made by the same person? Yeah. I feel like it is.
Starting point is 00:35:05 Yeah, it is. Sean Baker. Under. From Miles. Carly Rae Jepsen. Yeah, emotional is fun. Miles says, I feel like she makes great pop music. It doesn't get nearly the kind of attention some of these hacks like Katy Perry get.
Starting point is 00:35:24 She writes most of their music too. Carly Rae Jepsen does? That's how she came into the industry. She was a songwriter and she wrote most of these. Her and fucking Robin. They're really underrated pop stars that write for everybody. They write for everybody. And then like Katy Perry
Starting point is 00:35:40 is like a pop princess. Robin was going to be as my underrated person, but what I put instead was the album slash soundtrack to Popstar Never Stop Stopping. Oh, yeah. I actually never saw that.
Starting point is 00:35:56 That movie is hilarious. So good. That movie's underrated because people, like it got panned by critics, but it's hilarious. It's hilarious. I love it.
Starting point is 00:36:06 It was like, to me, like Hot Rod all over over again where everyone hated hot rod and i was like this movie is fucking hilarious i loved hot rod it was so funny and so was pop star never stop what is it never stop stopping that's great um yes that is oh sorry selena gomez why does she make music oh overrated yeah yeah she's like the most followed person on instagram or whatever her music is trash it is the most basic crap i've ever heard i just don't get it robin's performance of dancing on my own and call your girlfriend on snl in 2011 everybody needs to go watch that immediately. Yes. She's so talented. That's my favorite musical thing of the decade.
Starting point is 00:36:49 Oh, wow. Those performances on SNL. You mean like the side-by-side thing that the, what is his name that he did? He did the dance that she does in the video to, I think it's Call Your Girlfriend. Call Your Girlfriend. I'm sick. But is it
Starting point is 00:37:08 Taryn Kern? I don't know. Someone does like a he like recreated the dance that she does in the video and then plays it
Starting point is 00:37:15 side by side and it's brilliant. Oh that's awesome. That dance is very hard to do. Like she like gets on the ground she like flips over it's really cool.
Starting point is 00:37:24 It's really like. It's a true study. I've watched it so many times. That SNL performance? No, the actual music video where she's in that gym. Which is like a one shot, right? It's like a continuous shot. Single performance.
Starting point is 00:37:39 Legend. Miles is overrated. It is Festival EDM. Shots fired to DJ Channel! No explanation, just like, yeah, fuck. You guys get it, right? Festival EDM. But then he also
Starting point is 00:37:56 said underrated as Kaytranada, who just released an album, and I think Miles is feeling that album very hard. He's Kayt up to his next album Super producer Sophie Lichterman listed a bunch of
Starting point is 00:38:08 good and bad songs I don't know which is supposed to be which I'm assuming Friday by Rebecca Black is one of her favorites Underrated Underrated
Starting point is 00:38:18 It's time It's never ring time And then Call Me Maybe is overrated she said Truth Hurts she said Liz Maybe is overrated, she said. Truth Hurts, she said Lizzo's overrated. What?
Starting point is 00:38:29 Adele. That's a hot take. Nicki Minaj, overrated. Wait, Sophie, get in here now. She's saying. I'm just joking. No, I'm pretty sure Rebecca Black is the only one that she thinks is bad. So she listed for the good songs,
Starting point is 00:38:45 Bodak Yellow, Formation, Beyonce. Thank you, Next, Ariana Grande. Shake It Off or Blank Space, Taylor Swift. Are those good? Tell us, Sophie. Clarify. Okay. Oh, so they're important,
Starting point is 00:38:58 not necessarily her favorites or not favorites. So this is very recent, but like a day ago, maybe even yesterday or the day before, Harry Styles covered Lizzo's Juice on like a studio performance. It is so fucking good.
Starting point is 00:39:15 Like it is so, so good. I think he is so, he's just like my white boy of the moment right now. I am all behind Harry Styles. Zach, mark this for cutting. No! We're cutting this.
Starting point is 00:39:28 He's talented. I like his brand of sexual ambiguity. His cover of Lizzo is fucking sick. He doesn't change any of the- I haven't seen it yet, but my friend tweeted it at me and I forgot to watch it. It is really, really fun. And I really love when an artist doesn't change the lyrics. Like, for example, he...
Starting point is 00:39:47 He's not like, she... Yeah, yeah, yeah. He just owns what it's supposed to be. Right. And it's fucking killer. No, Harry Styles is like a super human person. Like, everybody... I've had the privilege of being around
Starting point is 00:40:03 him and being around people who have been around him. And they all say he's like just. He's a good? Yeah, he's a good. He's like the best. But isn't he like, except for all his like One Direction former friends were like. No, he's just like he goes out of his way to like be really kind to people. I like that he's like genuinely seems like a good person. Yeah. I think
Starting point is 00:40:26 he gets a lot of flack for even being in a boy band and like maybe people dismissing his music but he's very talented. Very talented. And I love that one I forget which One Direction ex-member but one of them had this interview recently where he was like I don't even know who Harry is anymore like he wears an earring now and just he
Starting point is 00:40:42 got so uncomfortable with the fact that like Harry Styles was like expressing any type of femininity it just made me love him so much probably liam there was just like there's so much there's so much power there's so much power in like a cis man just like wearing a skirt if he fucking wants to like i fucking love that shit same i don't know harry styles man he's he's the one i could probably tell you right now i don't know. Harry Styles, man. He's the one. I can probably tell you right now, I don't even know what Harry Styles looks like. I have gone through my life not observing him at all. I don't know. I mean, that's on you.
Starting point is 00:41:11 He's just not in my world. That's on you. Yeah. That's on you, dude. I think I'll be okay. I think you need to take a long look at yourself in the mirror. I think I'll literally just continue living and everything will be fine in my life. My favorite take, because we're running out of time.
Starting point is 00:41:23 Actually, let's take another quick break and then we'll be right back with our, we'll just close out with some really hot spicy takes. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course,

Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis Podcast every Monday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. And we're back. And so miles over had Taylor Swift from an attention standpoint,
Starting point is 00:49:55 underrated women of color. But his innovations, because that was one of the ones that we put out there, his overrated was wireless charging, which I think is such a good point. I don't think it works well. Like heading into the decade. Yeah, like people are like, oh, and it has wireless charging.
Starting point is 00:50:15 And it is like, it takes up more space. It works less well. And it's fucking stupid. It works less well. It works less. It works less well and it's fucking stupid. It works less well. It works less. It works better. And then his underrated is microdosing psychedelic drugs. That's up.
Starting point is 00:50:32 I fucking love that. Wait, can I? That's innovation, right? Yes. So my overrated is Slack. Please don't ever fucking Slack me. I hate this whole concept of like, in your office messaging. It's like,
Starting point is 00:50:46 what's, what are we doing here? I'm not, I just don't like it. Please never slack me. Just shoot me an email. Okay, please don't ever be like,
Starting point is 00:50:53 didn't you see my slack? Cause no, I didn't. I chose not to. You hear that Jack? Stop slacking. Stop slacking me unless you're trying to verbally abuse me. Okay.
Starting point is 00:51:05 our whole, our cut, Stop slacking me unless you're trying to verbally abuse me. Okay. We have a company-wide Slack that I famously have never checked. Oh, wow. Yeah, I as well. I have no idea what's going on there. You can email me or call me. They're like, have you guys noticed the LA office never responds to Slack? Yeah. And my underrated is casting.
Starting point is 00:51:20 Genius. What? I'm sorry, what? Casting. What are you talking about? From your phone or your computer to a tv it's fucking oh but it always is slow for me then get better internet what do you want me to tell you so it's genius because it fixes everything you're like i want to watch this this on my phone
Starting point is 00:51:39 wait i can just fucking slingshot it to my fucking tv like i want to watch this it's chromecast the casting on iphones like to apple tv like i fucking love it it's my life i if i can't cast somewhere i leave okay all right it's genius i know you've left my house several times i'm not impressed tell you right now come on get some some casting devices. Because it makes everything so much easier. And I think it's the most brilliant innovation of the last decade. Nice. Okay, good to know. Very good.
Starting point is 00:52:12 I agree with Miles, it's underrated. Microdosing is so underrated. It is, I love shrooms. Me too. Overrated AirPods. I think they're stupid. And I also think what's hilarious is that they came out with a because people kept losing them they came out with a strap for them wasn't that or
Starting point is 00:52:32 it was either an onion headline or i just believe no they did okay great see that's that's idiotic just use regular headphones if you're gonna lose them anyway like i don't fucking know and for me they're just a sign of like elitism that i'm just like they're so expensive they're just over it i'm just over yeah i agree my overrated is driverless cars because even though i know it is human to error i think that uh driverless cars will run us all over and kill us all i do not trust them uh and my underrated is um menstrual cups and I know that they were invented decades ago but it wasn't until this past decade that we
Starting point is 00:53:10 saw more mainstream use of them so shout out to the diva cup I will say that I have never used one bold I know but I love the idea of it because I don't get my period I have a birth control thing that like just makes me have no periods which is actually maybe the best innovation ever of all
Starting point is 00:53:31 of all is uh birth control where you don't have to have a no mine's a next plan on okay um so i don't have periods but uh if i were i'd want them to go into a cup yeah word or or another one in mind period underwear oh sure there's nothing truly there's nothing like free bleeding and just like making your male employees deal with it just being like what's up i'm free bleeding and it just makes them so uncomfortable oh the power of just free bleeding all over an office is just's just, woo! Jack is so confused. When did that happen? You don't know it's happening. But I'm just, I'm like, just, woo.
Starting point is 00:54:11 Because she's wearing period underwear. I'm looking in your eyes and I'm having a conversation with you and I'm just bleeding into my underwear. And that is the most empowering feeling of being like, fuck you, bitch. But I was not made uncomfortable by it, I don't think. Was I? I can't tell you how you feel. See how these white men always try to put stuff on you? Oh my god. I will not answer that.
Starting point is 00:54:32 Yeah. Free bleeding. Free bleeding is the underrated innovation. Free bleeding. It really is an amazing feeling to know that I don't have to worry about my period. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:45 Yeah. That's beautiful. Yeah. Nick Stumpf's overrated innovation. He's like free bleeding. Free bleeding. Yeah. Transition from that, Jack.
Starting point is 00:54:54 Yeah. His overrated innovation, he said the internet, which this is the decade when the internet went from tyranny toppling to dystopian data mining, human race commodifying bullshit. Podcasts are overrated. I'm just kidding. Where am I? What was his underrated? Yeah, what's underrated? He gave me underrated
Starting point is 00:55:22 institution. Okay. What is it? What is it? He went in some weird directions, guys. Underrated institution, the sacred. What? Is he talking the secret? The sacred.
Starting point is 00:55:34 Like this decade could be said to be the one that saw the death of the concept of sacred, wherein something is revered and protected by that reverence. Oh, we get it. You're not on social media. Next. Overrated. Dan didn't do an overrated innovation. Yes, he did. Overrated.
Starting point is 00:55:55 Buried lime scooter under Tesla solar roof tiles. Those never came out. No? No. Really? Yeah, he introduced them at a thing, but then they never came out. But then yeah he introduced them at a thing but then they never came out but then he did too much acid and forgot right he's like whoops uh all the sustainable energy innovations tesla is making maybe they did come out and then he said myth that virtual reality is a gimmick it's not i'll die on this hill. He loves the art. That's interesting.
Starting point is 00:56:26 Yeah. Well, I think a lot of people just dismiss it being like, oh, just like 3D glasses when really it's really immersive and shit. Maybe that's what he means. I don't know. I'm talking for him. Before we close out, I don't know what your plans are. Can we do person? Yes. Sorry, I just want to give Sophie's
Starting point is 00:56:42 overrated innovation, smart speakers, which, yeah. But underrated rear view cameras in cars, which I like. Oh, yeah. I wish I had one. They became mandatory in all cars in 2012. That's the only reason I can parallel park. The new version of that is the screens, the car play where you're like you no longer have to look at your phone because the screen in your car.
Starting point is 00:57:07 Oh, it takes it over. Wait, is that a thing? Yeah, it's like casting onto your car screen. Yeah, that's like in the newer model cars. Like if you rent a car. What? Yeah, it's really good. So just like your Google map will just be on your windshield?
Starting point is 00:57:21 Yeah, becomes a windshield thing. Yeah, yeah. I've been waiting for this my whole life. I know. It's been a long time coming. It's been? It's been. Okay, person, people.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Shereen covered this already. Overrated Taylor Swift. I also had that. I just can't. The way she tried to be like, oh my God, I created gay rights in a weird way. Which is like, what are you? You just discovered this?
Starting point is 00:57:49 Like, that song was, in my opinion, 10 years too late. Like, come on. Yeah. And she just appropriates culture in weird ways. Like, she pulls and takes what's good for her and dismisses other aspects of culture that she should acknowledge. Why not when it's a one-on-one? Yeah, it's very, it's a bummer. Also, her music, I guess, I mean, look, it's just not for me.
Starting point is 00:58:11 I'm not really into like that sort of pop. Yeah, it's bad music. Look, some people, it's really interesting. Like some people really, really like her and I, that's fine. I don't get it. Get your music where you can by whoever you like, but it just never spoke to me, and I just don't like her as a being. I think if I meet someone
Starting point is 00:58:29 and I find out they're a fan of Taylor Swift, that's when I question everything about them. Can we be friends? I don't know. So Sophie's underrated is Taylor Swift. She's gonna kill you. Sophie's underrated is Kim Kardashian, which I kind of like.
Starting point is 00:58:44 I respect that very smart woman who you know gets shit done and her overrated which I love and I think is the right answer is Elon Musk the most overrated person of the decade
Starting point is 00:58:59 we both talked about this before we started recording but Scarlett Johansson being the highest paid actress in the world and she I just, we both talked about this before we started recording, but Scarlett Johansson. Oh, yeah. She's my overrated. The highest paid actress in the world. And she sucks. She. Sorry. Like, she's okay, but she plays the same thing every time.
Starting point is 00:59:15 And she's just a bad person. Like, not, I don't mean, she's not a terrible person, but like every interview she gets, like she just had an interview with some Vanity Fair or some shit. I don't fucking know. But she defended Woody Allen again. an interview with some vanity fair or some shit i don't fucking know but she defended woody allen again like she just like everything every chance she gets she just like digs her fucking grave but she's still the highest paid actress in the world it's and then like whenever people are like oh how about how that role you played was super whitewashed and she's just like whatever and then if she gets cast as a like cis actor in trans role, she's like, no big deal.
Starting point is 00:59:48 It's fine. Like, whatever. As an actor, I could be a tree if I wanted. It's just like, shut up. Your takes are terrible. She's in every movie. And there are so many other actresses out there. But why doesn't any studio know that?
Starting point is 00:59:59 My favorite thing about her marriage story thing, where everyone kept tweeting, can you believe she memorized this 10-minute monologue and just delivered it? Spot, like, perfectly. And it's like, you're describing acting. That's acting. Like, what is so fascinating? Have you seen a play before? Not for everyone.
Starting point is 01:00:18 Marlon Brando. Have you ever seen the pictures of him? No. Trying to act. Behind the scenes in The Godfather, he's like, the people he's acting opposite have all his lines taped to them. Really? Yeah, because he couldn't memorize anything.
Starting point is 01:00:32 That's hilarious. Okay, well, Marlon Brando is another creature. Brando? Brando. Brando? I think it's just like- Buttigieg. Buttigieg?
Starting point is 01:00:41 Doesn't anyone else get tired of seeing her face in every movie? Like, she was in maybe four of the movies this year that were everywhere. And it's just like doesn't anyone else get tired of seeing her face in every movie like she was in maybe four of the movies this year that were everywhere and it's just like i'm tired like i i want to see a different person it's like emma stone had that a couple years ago jennifer lawrence had that a couple years ago and it's every every couple years there's a white woman that's just like in every fucking movie yeah i'm tired of it. It's an interesting thing. I think she's great. I'm just kidding. I also have a quick underrated person of the year. Oh, same.
Starting point is 01:01:11 Yes, go ahead. I'm going to say Solange Knowles for fucking knocking the shit out of Jay-Z in that elevator and starting the goddamn renaissance, which turned into Lemonade and us being like, how dare you, Jay-Z. That's a great one. That started a revolution. The elevator started a revolution with Beyonce and then she came out
Starting point is 01:01:31 and started dropping classic albums. Yeah. She's very underrated. But that was a really interesting moment because there's a photo of them all walking out. Solange looks angry. Jay-Z looks shook and Beyonce's just smiling to herself
Starting point is 01:01:46 and that is so iconic to me because she knew she's like and if you step to me I will kill you like or my family will like this is such a strongly or just they're bonded so well that like my sister will beat the shit out of you in an elevator the second they
Starting point is 01:02:02 close and we don't think there's any eyes on us and that was a very beautiful moment in my opinion that started a whole nother like beyonce the self-titled album self-titled album great but this started a whole nother revolution where jay-z had to put out an album being like yeah my bad yeah that wasn't a good look wasn't i agree so hard it's beautiful she's so underrated her music is amazing yes and it must be so hard to be beyonce's sister like as someone who also has sisters that are like amazing like it's cool to just like that she owns her fucking thing she doesn't like she's not competitive she's not i just love it she her music is great and that did start a fucking wave of everything like these
Starting point is 01:02:43 women aren't just because they're famous and live in the spotlight doesn't mean you get to just treat that like that this is a true this is a powerhouse and how fucking dare you jay-z like i get it you're some hot shit too but don't you step yeah to the fucking noel family and that i think was a very powerful move by that entire family to i know part of me feels like maybe that got leaked on purpose yeah because i just feel like so in my opinion this is how i've always seen it beyonce's whole like that leaked and then either one they were like the rumors of him cheating on her are already getting out people know so we have to get ahead of this and i bet she i think this is how i imagine because hollywood the industry is hell is that it's everything is so premeditated and things happen for a reason like they beyonce controls
Starting point is 01:03:33 everything that comes out about her all her documentaries are her like she gets final like every not every bit of knowledge we know about beyonce is because beyonce has let us know right and a part of me feels like they were like we need to get ahead of this if this drops then we hit with them with the album where you acknowledge you've been cheated on and you acknowledge that you're gonna leave him possibly and then he's gonna come back like it feels so premeditated it's almost fucking genius and we bought it like fucking little like amazing at the teat being like please mommy please more and she's like here you go and we were like yes queen and that was it baby i wish that it just kept going for hours and then
Starting point is 01:04:14 she was like and then we were all but it's true they nailed it they fucking nailed a fucking cheater and and we bought we And we all bought that goddamn album. And we all said, Jay-Z, you are lucky to be here because Beyonce forgave you. And that was amazing marketing by her team. So shout out to underrated Beyonce's marketing team. And agents. Great PR. Great PR.
Starting point is 01:04:37 And that's the industry, baby. A couple news story myths. Dan had the vaping crisis. What? The vaping crisis. What? The vaping crisis. The one saying vaping is bad for you? That everybody was dying.
Starting point is 01:04:53 Well, it's not great for you. It's not great for you. It's also not like... I think it was put out there by the smoking industry. The tobacco industry because they were losing out on a lot of dollars to a bunch of new technology.
Starting point is 01:05:11 And also at the very beginning of this decade, that thing where Toyotas were accelerating out of control, that was not actually happening. What happened was people were hitting the accelerator and thinking they were hitting the brake. What? Yeah. Are you shitting me? No, I'm not shitting you.
Starting point is 01:05:32 They like – people who like studied it were like, oh, no, they're – when you look at the onboard computer, they were just hitting the thing. But so the thing – it always happens to people who are in new cars and usually people who are a little bit shorter and so they're just like not oriented. That is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. Well it's really sad because like people died but like weren't able to
Starting point is 01:05:57 That is dark man. Yeah. It's super dark. Pathetic and dark at the same time. Yeah. Damn. Anything else? On that note. aesthetic and dark at the same time um yeah damn anything else yes well any fun ones no but the uh well okay i'll do my best here my underrated for a news story is uh i i don't know why we are not talking every second of every day about how we've done such irreparable damage to the environment and how we only have a pretty short amount of time, relatively speaking, before we start seeing major catastrophic effects.
Starting point is 01:06:37 It's going to happen in our lifetime. It's going to ruin all of our lives. And we don't seem that concerned about it just yet because it's not something that's happening right now that we're seeing like the catastrophic effects of. But we need to be worried about it far more than we are. And we need to be making changes as consumers, as people, you know, whatever, every, every. We're all going gonna die soon. Anyway, that's my end of the day. Yeah, that was one of my myths was that we,
Starting point is 01:07:10 it's like this kind of weird consensus, it feels like, that we think, well, once we get Trump out of office, everything will be fixed. And it's like, no, no, the damage is done. The damage is done. Like, we will, what we end up doing to try and fix it
Starting point is 01:07:22 will give us maybe like a few more years. We are, we're fucked. Like, it's just kind of like the way of the world hey we wanted too much we did too much yeah it's not like fossil fuels was like i don't know i think they got a point yeah let's quit that let's quit that we just dug our grave way too deep we can't crawl out at this point yeah wow great vibes uh i also yeah go ahead i was gonna say my overrated news story of the decade was the Kim Kardashian breaking the internet with the champagne
Starting point is 01:07:50 on her butt yeah that was my favorite news story of the decade it's my end of my lifetime no
Starting point is 01:07:59 what you just think it was stupid yeah like why was that news and like why they have taken credit for corning that term, though. Breaking the internet?
Starting point is 01:08:07 From that time. Oh, interesting. Yeah, from that thing. They were like, that's where that came from. Weird. I guess I hadn't heard that before. And then Ralph breaks the internet. Did they sue Disney for stealing their term?
Starting point is 01:08:21 Have you seen the poster where it's Ralph with the champagne pouring onto his ass? That's hilarious. Is that real? No, I wish. That would be awful. That would be so funny. Alright, I think we covered off on a lot. I think people know this decade better than they did at the beginning
Starting point is 01:08:39 of this episode. I think we all learned a valuable lesson about... Sophie wants me to say the Me Too movement. Overrated or underrated? I'm just kidding. Underrated?
Starting point is 01:08:55 She said that it is a myth. No, she said... Sophie is going to murder you. You can't leave this video. She said it is important. It's important. And I quit, she said. We are going to murder you. You can't leave this video. She said it is important. It's important. And I quit, she said.
Starting point is 01:09:10 No, that is good. We probably should have talked more about that. Although we did talk about it a lot in the 2017, 18, and 19 reviews, which she didn't do. So to be fair to all of us. Okay, she's still going to kill you. Definitely. All right. Well, thank you guys so much for joining us for this. Thanks all of us. Okay, she's still going to kill you. Definitely. All right.

Starting point is 01:09:39 Oh, no. And we'll be back tomorrow, I guess. When will we be back? Yes, tomorrow with a reg. Reg F. Holy shit. It's 2020. We're really doing it, everyone.
Starting point is 01:09:50 And we are all Barbara Walters. Yeah. How's your vision? Mine's still bad. Not 2020. This is 2020. That was my impression of Barbara Walters. That was just you talking.
