Starting point is 00:02:01 Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of Boosties in the Zite with Diet Trends. Robert Brown, which, you know, I'm old, but I still was like, what does this mean, Miles? Boosties in the Zite with Diet Trends? Yeah. And you know what's funny? This is what's so wild. I've never heard the song before, the actual Beatles song before. You just basically heard it.
Starting point is 00:02:30 Obviously. I mean, look, your legal name is John. It is. And so is Lennon. So that does feel like overlap right there. Greatest Johns. But yeah, the only reason I knew it was because it was one of those things, like an older person was like, you lucy in the sky with diamonds they're talking about lsd and i was like whoa what's lsd but i'm gonna pretend i know what is lucy in the sky with
Starting point is 00:02:55 diamonds what is lsd yeah i was like cool and so that's the only memory i have to an older cousin who told me about that who are you talking about jack? Jack Lennon? I call him Jack. You might know him as John Lennon. Yo, Jackie. Yo, Jackie. What's up? Hey, where's Yoko? Yoko. That's a great
Starting point is 00:03:18 Philly word. Yoko. Oh, no. Alright. I'm a little sick. I got a little extra bass in my voice and I'm enjoying it. Okay. I'm just going to say that.
Starting point is 00:03:30 You got the vid? I don't know. I woke up feeling a little bit... I don't know. Got a gland that is bigger than it usually is. We'll see. We'll see. Might just be fighting something.
Starting point is 00:03:43 But let's get into it, Miles. Dan Crenshaw is trending. Don't bully me around with that deep voice. Let's get into it, man. Dan Crenshaw trending. Previously, Tucker Carlson, if someone
Starting point is 00:03:59 made fun of Dan Crenshaw's eye, I believe Pete Davidson may have, he lost his shit over it how could you say that about a guy who threw his body on the line in service of american imperialism um well i guess today he did a 180 because he's you know not as pro putin as tucker is and then so now he's like yeah well guess what, guess what? Now I'm going to make fun of his eye. So this is Tucker Carlson now. And the more I think about it, it takes a lot of gall for eyepatch McCain to
Starting point is 00:04:29 attack mom to worry about baby formula as quote pro-Russia. He said eyepatch McCain. Wow. We'll see. I mean, he wasn't mad at what Pete Davidson was doing. He was just mad that he wasn't as funny as he is with his eyepatch McCain.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Yeah. Killer, dude. I really don't care. Let these people rip each other apart, but it's just so funny. No, I'm pissed. I'm pissed. The chyron when Pete Davidson made a joke about dan crenshaw it said snl sinks to new low by insulting wounded veteran it just shows you veteran like he's still bleeding they don't give
Starting point is 00:05:13 a i know it just means like you know purple heart recipient okay there's wounded in combat my bad my bad okay i yeah i get it we are both protective of dan crenshaw exactly and mostly because his name is a very famous street in south l.a so shut up boulevard but yeah i think this shows how quickly when you're a republican nothing it doesn't matter all the shit that they say fucking like who are the people who are above reproach like veterans or something the second you're like in the way of whatever the very narrow agenda is like man i don't give a fuck fuck yeah like fuck fuck a gold star family like whoa yeah meanwhile like at sporting events we're still doing things where people are like rousing you know rounds of applause or people on their feet
Starting point is 00:05:56 when like you know over the pa at a sporting events like okay let's you know for all the active duty like military let's please give a round of applause in that context like americans like always default to honor the troops but in this shit when it's like i'm a putin turd and it's going counter to what i like so you're eyepatch mccain there's a article in uh the new yorker and now i am three for three i read three articles this week in the new yorker and with this trending episode and tomorrow's episode, I have referenced all three of them. Wow, you hit the lib trifecta. Lib trifecta, baby.
Starting point is 00:06:33 One of them was very bad. It was like a criticism of a book about how economists, they're not all bad. And we need to let technocrats just do their thing a little bit. Anyways, but one of them was about this new breed of dictator around the world, comparing them with the 20th century variety. And one of the things that they say is kind of um standard is like they're the only thing they have they just follow the hate so wherever they're
Starting point is 00:07:12 wherever they sense energy and like anger and hatred they will follow that and they're not ideologically like specific in any way um and, and you know, Tucker, uh, I think a lot of people have, have their chips on him being maybe one of the, the, the next great Trump, the, the Trump of the future.
Starting point is 00:07:36 So, uh, it doesn't, doesn't surprise me. He's not, he's not going to be specific or consistent. God, Tucker,
Starting point is 00:07:43 please run. You're going to make things so easy for the dnc their whole campaign will just be to play montages of your show and they won't offer any policy guidance on anything do you think that was guy i think he would he would do well right like i feel like people are really feeling him yeah he's slick with his mouth and you know he's smarter than most of the republican base so yeah he's he would do a very horrific job of galvanizing that group of people just oh my god miles just aged 15 years with that one exhale just abe l Lincoln. Grubhub is trending. So Grubhub was basically like free lunch today.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Great. You know, somebody came up with that in a meeting and they were like, let's do it. That's fucking genius, Todd. So they had a promotion where they were going to let people order free lunch. So they did it. And as with many a tech company, they didn't you know make sure the
Starting point is 00:08:46 infrastructure was in place to pull something like this off oh so it wasn't smooth yeah it was just like uh fewer restaurants than usual were available on the platform as restaurants just closed orders because they didn't want to deal with this shit um oh because too many people were like yeah fuck it and they're like, I'm getting slammed with 60 orders at once. Some restaurant owners received notice of the promotion. But that wasn't the case across the board.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Orders were piling up as they awaited a courier. And the app and payment were both glitching out the whole time. despite those glitches, they were sending out tweets amid the chaos to remind users to get their last minute orders in. I mean, nice try to curry some favor with the consumers. But, you know, the cool thing would have been like, hey, we're giving the couriers healthcare. Here's a $15 tip on Grubhub you can give to your courier or something like that.
Starting point is 00:09:53 It is wild because tech CEOs are always telling people there's no such thing as free lunch when they're telling them they can't have healthcare. But they wanted to see if they could make it happen. They did not try hard enough. Um, Biden crypto. What's happening?
Starting point is 00:10:13 Is he issuing his own coin? Yeah. He got a new coin. How do I open PDF? Jack coin. Oh yeah. It's called corn. He's selling corn pop NFTs from that bad man who was the black guy he
Starting point is 00:10:29 kept a razor rusty razor blade on him or whatever that i know how you guys do keep a rusty razor in the rain jar what was it like in a rain barrel or some shit the rain barrel like what the fuck all right anyway assumed a population of like people under the age of 50 were all still doing this thing that one person told them they did and like yeah that was like the equivalent of like a chain email that he heard of i was like you know what you know what the black people do they hold rusty things in a rain barrel and i'm joe byron but yeah this crypto thing is coming out because one of his picks for the federal reserve's vice chair of supervision is this guy michael barr and he's got a senate confirmation hearing coming up but a lot of people have pointed at the financial disclosures that
Starting point is 00:11:16 he's put out uh you know since he's been nominated and everyone's like wow look at this guy he's uh pretty heavily invested in over 80 uh technology companies like crypto, debt collection, microfinance firms. And a lot of watchdog groups are like, this is not a good person to be putting in a role who has a vested interest in cryptocurrency. cryptocurrency when what happened with the crypto market last week, absolutely. So many smaller investors got rinsed because of the lack of regulation that they're like, well, how are you going to square this? Because it doesn't seem like this person is 100% trustworthy if they've already been like, yeah, I got a lot of money tied up in this stuff, too. So, you know, the revolving door kind of continues. But, you know, I think on the other side of it, people I'm sure the Biden administration is like, no, this guy is great because he knows about crypto. But it's it's difficult to like square all of that when you see some of these financial disclosures and just sort of like the amount of like silicon valley people that have been on like the transition team um while again we're dealing with an unregulated ponzi scheme
Starting point is 00:12:30 market uh with cryptocurrency right now are is there like a movement in the aftermath of this crypto crash which like seems to be like it's sort of settled now that crypto is a mess and a scam um it depends man because if you're like talking to crypto like maximalists you know who are all they do is talk about crypto the they seem to be towing the line that it's like it's it's up and down man we're gonna get through this we're gonna get through this but what what's different is with Terra and Luna going down, those huge coins that crashed, that one was pegged to the dollar. A lot of smaller people, countless anecdotes of like, oh my God, I lost my entire life savings because I was into this stupid coin. Because I got into this groupthink with everyone if we're all gonna make it and i absolutely lost all my money what do i do now and there are some people you see like
Starting point is 00:13:31 doubling down they're like well i'm buying luna now you're like it doesn't have any value but people are still thinking about like well i'm gonna buy this dip so in the aftermath what i've seen is a lot more outpouring of like there's a lot of crypto l type accounts like retweeting like really just sad like sort of juxtapositions of people being like good luck being poor and then the next tweet is like i lost everything in crypto what do i do right but at the same time there's a lot of angry computer scientists who are like we've been saying that this technology is very flimsy and it's not really promising to do what everyone says it's going to do and that's i've been looking into a lot of the computer scientists who are taking
Starting point is 00:14:09 apart this technology like this jank like the fuck are y'all doing and i think really the biggest thing to consider with all of that is uh which i think is really interesting point at the moment is that it's it's going to create create an opportunity for more extremism. Because with people losing a ton of their money, you have some crypto agnostic people or crypto apostles type people who are saying, oh, you know, this is all because of the Fed and like they're against us. While really they're not doing the thing of like,
Starting point is 00:14:42 look at the people who put those projects together and who are probably laughing their asses off holding your money. That's who has your money. Like don't. So a lot of people in extremism research are like, this could be a very interesting place. You have a lot of distant financially disenf the fucking people who told you constantly that everything was going to be okay. And they're probably have their skin like now instead of you, you know, that's kind of where that attention needs to go. it's it is terrible to read countless anecdotes of people who completely did not were not ready to take such huge financial risks with their savings and did and that's really fucked up yeah like it's like they're really like that's the real aftermath of it that uh i think is
Starting point is 00:15:36 something that needs to you know have an eye on it but yeah i saw somebody like tweeting i think it was the guy one of the producers at that podcast, Blank Check, but they were tweeting about how any celebrity who took money from a crypto company should just, the response should be, apologize publicly, say you're returning the money, actually return the money, and then help people find crypto disaster relief, basically. Because it felt like it was, okay, we're through this. This is a settled bad thing that has happened.
Starting point is 00:16:14 But yeah, you're right. We've been talking a lot about the fact that each problem contributes to the other problems and there's this cascading thing. And crypto is definitely, a lot of people pitch it as a solution but it definitely feels like it's uh another another contributing problem to the overall collapse and i think the projects that people will point to to be like well this has the potential for this or that they're too few and far between because most people are now like from the outside who are ignorant about it
Starting point is 00:16:45 they're they're looking at like this prosperity gospel that's basically come out and like the influencers around crypto are doing like they've took a whole thing of just like showing opulent lifestyles to kind of seed this in the mind of you know retail investors to be like oh shit this could be so this is a path of financial freedom which for millennials can totally understand the the appeal of something like that because you look around you're like fuck man my financial opportunities are fucking limited as hell how am i going to get to like some sense of real stability and a lot of people you know were uh intoxicated by the promise of these kinds of things and it's just it's just tough to see now the fallout on the other side of a lot of people getting completely just destroyed um yeah but
Starting point is 00:17:30 you know it it it rolls on and like yeah i think it's true a lot of the celebrities like matt damon and shit lebron james who's you know really touting shit is like the next path to create generational wealth those are terrible looks for y'all. Joel Embiid had an ad go up as the crash was happening. There were so many poorly timed I mean Jimmy Fallon's
Starting point is 00:17:55 his display name is Fallon.eth for Ethereum. He's got a fucking NFT as his profile pic. this dude is still on that shit and it's just like please you look how like this man how does this man constantly end up looking so bad you have to be here his instincts are always good always yeah um let's take a quick break we'll be right back i'm jess casaveto executive producer of the hit netflix documentary series dancing for the devil the 7m tiktok cult and i'm cleo gray former member of 7m films and shekinah church and we're the host

This wasn't just a new game. Atari promised 150 grand in prizes to four finalists. But the prizes disappeared. And what started as a video game
Starting point is 00:19:47 promotion became one of the most controversial moments in 80s pop culture. I just don't believe they exist. My reaction, shock and awe. That sword was amazing. It was so beautiful. I'm Jamie Loftus. Join me this spring for The Legend of Sword Quest, a podcast about the fall of Atari and the disappearing Sword Quest prizes. We'll follow the quest for lost treasure across four decades. It's almost like a metaphor for the industry and Atari itself in a way. Listen to The Legend of Sword Quest on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. podcast or wherever you get your podcasts. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts
Starting point is 00:20:40 on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI
Starting point is 00:21:04 in a violent, revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio
Starting point is 00:21:20 app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Some people won't give you the real talk on drugs, but it's time we know the facts. Fentanyl is often laced into illicit drugs and used to make fake versions of prescription pills. You can't see it, taste it, or smell it. Suppliers mix fentanyl into their products because it's potent and cheap and the dealer might not even know keep yourself and others safe by knowing the real deal on fentanyl get the facts go to real deal on fentanyl.com this message is brought to you by the ad council and we're back uh and the n draft is tonight, I think?
Starting point is 00:22:06 The draft lottery. Oh, it's the lottery tonight. Not the draft. The draft happens at the offseason. Yeah. It's the draft lottery. It's where all the Pelicans fans make fun of the Lakers. Right.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Thanks for that, Lakers! Literally a lottery where they like show which team gets the first pick basically yeah they can't have it just be like numerically determined by worst record because teams would tank anyways the nba draft lottery happens uh usually at halftime of one of the first conference finals games and the eastern conference finals games and the Eastern Conference Finals between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics. Kicks off tonight. NBA action. So, yeah. I'm excited for both of the
Starting point is 00:22:52 conference finals. They're going to be a great series. They're all very promising. Margot Robbie is trending for a couple reasons. This is a compound trend. So, first Margot Robbie had a letterboxd account um it was like a burner it wasn't like margot robbie was the name i don't think um but it got discovered and
Starting point is 00:23:14 she took it down because she had had a section that was watch for barbie uh so like she was you know movies that she was using to research the role of barbie um which is interesting like i don't see why actors don't do that like that's dope i want to see what movies they're watching the it's like interesting to the people who would care enough to look at it and then probably nobody else gives a shit right i'm sure that that's easy for me to say. Like, I've never been a woman on the Internet. But among the movies in the watch for Barbie section where the Truman Show. Okay. Splash, splash and Puberty Blues, which is not one that I had heard of.
Starting point is 00:24:00 It's a coming of Australian coming of age comedy drama television series okay all right yeah and then second reason that margot robbie is a compound trend is bruckheimer jerry bruckheimer is developing a new pirate sequel around margot robbie which makes sense to me if You saw her as Harley Quinn. She's really... Big pirate energy. Big pirate energy. Big pirate energy. All right. And finally,
Starting point is 00:24:33 let's bring her home with Messi. Let's get Messi, baby. Let's get Messi like Lionel, baby. Look, he's the legendary player. He was at Barcelona. He plays for Paris Saint-Germain. His contract runs out in 2023, uh look he's the legendary player he was at barcelona he plays for paris saint germain uh his contract runs out in 2023 so there's a lot of speculation what's his next move because he's he's gonna be 35 this year uh and is the reason it was trending was there was a rumor going around
Starting point is 00:24:56 that oh you know what he might he might end up fucking around and retiring uh in the MLS in 2023, which everyone was like, the idea of watching Lionel Messi absolutely just rinse defenders would have been a sight to behold. But his manager or his agent came out and was like, no, it's bullshit. Absolutely false. So we'll see where he ends up.
Starting point is 00:25:19 I mean, it was very difficult to see him play in a shirt that wasn't Barcelona. But we'll see where he ends up. How is he playing? Like, is he at that stage of his career? Like, is he at the Beckham post-Bending-It-like stage? Yeah, I mean, he's definitely...
Starting point is 00:25:37 Yeah, I mean, his pace, you know, it's not what it used to be. But he's also just such a skilled dribbler. And his control of the ball is such that, like... You's like he can be like one of those players who age as well because they just get more efficient they're like i don't need to just run as fast as i can i can just start using my body a little bit differently to just make the plat like the passes and shots that i you know that'll help out right but like he's fast and he quick, but his main thing is that he has the ball on a string basically. Right. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:07 And exactly. I mean, just in general, everything about him, it's like, what can he do? Just scoring with both feet, free kicks, whatever. But yeah, I think, you know, being 34, that's definitely a tough place to be because, you know, typically they say you peak at 28, but he was doing really well in the
Starting point is 00:26:25 in the final like the years following that um so yeah i mean this is always just a time too when agents start looking around like where's the biggest payday for me also because my my client is about to retire too so maybe we can all win with one last big deal so we'll see we'll see where that goes but it would be like when pele came to uh the u.s i'm sure that like that would probably fundamentally change how many people interact with like the mls if like there was a chance to see lionel messi play every week but it's not gonna happen so don't worry about it how long did pele play in the u.s oh man formos? Let's see. He played. He signed a three-year deal with the Cosmos.
Starting point is 00:27:12 And I think he may have played three seasons. Okay. Yeah. And that blew things up for the beautiful game in the United States. Yeah. Because, I mean, at that time, he was a singular name still. But yeah, he set all these records too for the three years he was there for attendance records because
Starting point is 00:27:33 people just knew. They're like, hey, I don't really know about soccer, but I know that one word, Pele. I'll go see that. And that's all right. That's a little bit of all right. Exactly. Pele. Hell yeah. Pele. Hell yeah. all right. That's a little bit of all right. Exactly. Hey, lay. All right. Hell yeah. Hey, lay.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Hell yeah. All right. Well, those are some of the things that are trending on this Tuesday afternoon. We are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy.
Starting point is 00:28:02 And we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Bye. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church.
