Starting point is 00:02:05 nfl fantasy football podcast on the iheart radio app on apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts hello the internet and welcome to this episode of dear zeit people uh i'm jack o'brien that's miles gray uh that short show title is courtesy of Johnny Davis, the man, the myth, the legend. So let's tell them what's trending, Miles. Obviously, a lot of quarantine shit is trending. Yeah. Hashtag quarantine life. Yeah. Everyone is kind of dealing with like just, you know, the change disruption to our lives in every way. So people are just kind of sharing with like just you know the change disruption to our lives in every way so people are just kind of sharing memes or just a lot of pet mischief and things like that so it's it's a varied hashtag that's been going pretty uh i don't know strongly on twitter uh but yeah i think just people
Starting point is 00:02:59 are kind of sort of sharing their experiences with this hashtag and seeing, you know, trying to make sense of it as much as possible as things get so disrupted. Yeah. We're also, uh, the number one trending version of that hashtag is misspelling quarantine. Uh, yeah. Like with an E where,
Starting point is 00:03:17 where, where, where, where in quarantine life, uh, it's, they're spelling it how it sounds, but you know, it's quaren
Starting point is 00:03:26 quaren like square but without the s and then end time i don't know whatever this is what happens when we've been cooped up at home all day that's what it is it's quaren time all right and that's all it's going to be social distancing pickup lines now this i've got to see yeah oh man people are just i don't know that everyone's just trying to have fun with just how different people's i guess our dating habits could be after that so people are just using stuff like hashtag social distancing pickup lines with i have toilet paper or maybe you must be pneumonia because you're taking my breath away i I think people are trying to make this. Hollywood Exposed tweeted, I'm just a girl standing six feet away from a boy asking him to maybe move back another foot.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Thanks. Hashtag social distancing pickup lines. Also trending, first day of spring. It is officially the first day of spring. Yeah. first day of spring it is officially the first day of spring yeah and you know great great time to go out into uh the outside air and just stand in place yeah run but like stay six feet away from people very yeah it's so bizarre man it's like this is usually a time where everyone's like being like yeah it's spring get
Starting point is 00:04:45 out spring break whatever and now i mean some people aren't letting that shit affect them or letting this pandemic affect them but it's very strange to like have this be the the launch of us coming out of the cold winter but none of us are able to leave our homes now right and that means that uh when it's the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere according to nasa earth uh our seasons are caused by a tilt in earth's orbit twice a year the northern and southern hemisphere get equal amounts of daylight these days are called equinoxes so this is like the day where we're perfectly uh in we're we're in balance with the southern hemisphere. So shout out to y'all.
Starting point is 00:05:29 Shout out to that Wikipedia definition of an equinox. Dolphins is trending. They've apparently returned to the Italian coast. Yeah, some niceness from all of this throughout it all. I think just the decrease in human activity has uh really been a boon for nature like i've seen memes where there were like elephants who got drunk i don't know if that's real or not but uh there's also just the yeah a lot of uh dolphins have returned to the italian coast and i guess haven't been there for a long
Starting point is 00:06:02 time because of all of the activity so i don't. I think a lot of this with all this lockdown, too, and like the cessation of normal human activity where I think a lot of people may actually become or get in touch with just how much of an impact we have on the surrounding world. right yeah i think that elephant story i hadn't connected the elephant story and the dolphin stories to like everybody being kind of shut inside but that makes sense there's yeah there's all sorts of interesting facts about the demilitarized zone in between north and south korea and how there's like different um you know animals that only live there and all sorts of really cool shit because people don't go there. Oh, man. These animals must be like, yo, what the fuck is going on? I know, right? Did they die?
Starting point is 00:06:56 They died, huh? Oh, shit. They died. Okay. That's what I'm saying. We're out here. It's a matter of time until we go full i am legend and like deer just like walking down the street that would be yeah and then they'll get shot probably by some hunter um
Starting point is 00:07:12 oak park is trending back back to uh this new reality uh because they uh it's a suburb of chicago and they have a shelter in place uh which shelter in place is basically you're not allowed to leave your residence unless you have like you're a health care worker or whatever yeah um and that starts friday and lasts until april 3rd in olive oak park because they had a couple uh people test positive a couple of the ER doctors there tested positive. That was one of the wild thing was hearing an Italian doctor who just lived through their peak was saying that his hospital is trying their best to keep up. But there's like 40 of their 70-something nurses are out sick because they all have coronavirus. sick because they all have coronavirus. Well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:07 And like, I think they were even trying to accelerate the graduation of medical students just to kind of have people who were like medically literate staffing some of these places. So, I mean, that shows you the tremendous strain that this has on like all of our infrastructure, even the people that we think are going to be like, well, at least they're there. No, like we're all very vulnerable to this. Yeah. are going to be like, well, at least they're there. No, we're all very vulnerable to this. Yeah, and that's not great for patients if they're doing that because one of the worst days for medical malpractice and deaths in hospitals is July 2nd because that's the first day that residents start at hospitals.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Oh, wow. Yeah, there's a learning curve there and this is a hell of a way to uh introduce young people to the hardest job in the world basically seriously yeah anyways uh shout out to any oak park listeners we hope you guys are staying safe and uh you know everything's going all right in your household uh that is going to do it for this fine thursday afternoon um we hope you guys are safe out there and yeah we'll we'll be back tomorrow with another whole ass episode of daily zeit Zeitgeist.
