Hello, the internet,
and welcome to this episode of
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Trend.
That's from Rory
the Scriv.
Scrivner.
We just had a
five-minute conversation
about the movie Don't Tell Mom mom the babysitter's dead.
Sue Ellen Crandall, dude.
That's wild that you remember her name.
Yeah, because I was in love with Christina Applegate in the early 90s.
She may have been the white woman that ruined me.
But from watching Married with Children children and then don't tell mom that
babysitter oh loved her and now just she yeah now she's and she's still got it she's still
putting out the what uh talent um i don't know why i turned into like a theater teacher there
but she is uh so talented and i think it's just remarkable because for me because she started out
as kelly bundy and when i met kelly bundy i was at that age where i was like she's dumb
and assumed that the character was like her kelly bundy became the because at a certain age i was in
love with every babysitter i had yeah and that's how i didn't i
couldn't even put anything together i was like i love that i love i don't that's my i love her my
babysitter and then she then don't tell mom the babysitter's dead it's all very baby city you
know baby city mayor and i'm the mayor mayor of baby city um don't know what that means don't ask
sounds like an adorable uh pixar movie
well it's like it's probably a boss baby it's a it's a spin-off of boss baby with
yeah anyway look hey giving away the ip at this i know come on let's tell the people what's
trending uh caitlin jenner is trending and what so i do not know fucking prize she's gonna be governor that's apparently that's
the the the the rumors the sounds the noises uh are that she is exploring a run a gubernator she's
a republican right yeah yeah he's like a trump supporter oh dope or maybe i think she i think she off ramped off
trump at a certain point where she's like oh fuck the this brand might also burn me up so let me
just do this other thing yeah so let's it'll be interesting i mean i don't know if this is uh
we're setting ourselves up for another you know like gray davis there was a recall of gray davis which led to arnold schwarzenegger so i don't know i hope i don't think you know i don't know we'll see it's not gonna is that
because so that that's interesting though that that would be part of the strategy because
um not that many people vote or at least it's off cycle so it's not going to be as many voters who are just like voting for the sake of doing their civic duty because it's off cycle.
And so like maybe a celebrity would have even more impact in that because then you're getting specific people out to vote.
So maybe that's the logic here where they're like, we got to get a celebrity.
What's how about Caitlin? Yeah, we got to get a celebrity. What's about Caitlin?
Yeah, we'll see if these.
I mean, that's why, like, I think why Newsom now is like June 15th.
California is open again, baby.
Right.
Which sounds like, you know, some red meat to the recall folks.
Yeah.
She would never win.
You know, even if there was
like diminished attention i mean if she entered the race it would bring more attention and i think
people would probably organize to keep a republican governor from taking the mansion
is that okay okay i your confidence makes me feel better um i mean i don't know look i thought i thought 2020 was
gonna be our year right so yeah yeah cut and then now we're like yeah president jenner
uh has claimed all mars colonies to be lawful uh in the space wars against china and we're like oh
alien is trending uh did we did we finally meet one what's going on just a hot hot question being asked
a lot of people are responding to the just someone posited is alien a horror film
you're please leave your answer after the tone this is from l hunt who uh tweeted this out
interesting features writer for the guardian yeah Yeah. I mean, it's...
I have a line in my mind
that probably doesn't make sense,
but it's,
if there's a machine gun in the movie,
it's not a horror movie.
Because, like, Aliens...
Like, Aliens is obviously
an action movie.
Alien, I think people are like, it was a horror movie,
but then James Cameron gave it an action spinoff.
But Alien, I think watching it,
I also assumed it was an action movie
because Machine Gun and, you know.
Right.
But same reason.
Like,
I don't,
I don't really think of jaws as a horror movie,
to be honest.
Well,
that's why I like,
there's a debate about like the aesthetic of what makes a horror film is what
it's setting off in the replies.
Really?
I mean,
it's,
it is a horror film in that,
like it's operating in the same way presentationally as a horror film would
be.
But I think a lot of people,
L hunt specifically said, I say no no because horror can't be in space right i mean unless you've actually seen jason in space which right has some of the best kills yeah and a lot of people are
saying you know like horror has to be grounded in reality versus it being a thriller so it's like
all semantics.
So yeah,
I definitely understand that.
Like,
I feel like a horror film is almost like you feel like it could happen to
you,
which is sort of the premise or at least the,
but then there's so many fantastical dumb horror films.
Like,
man,
that shit ain't happening.
But I guess because you're dealing with earth bound creatures,
uh,
we're just fucking each other up it's
different would godzilla verse kong be a horror movie i mean that's a monster movie that's more
of like a spectacle summer popcorn monster movie um but i mean that's jaws similar someone but
someone replied it's sci-fi horror is usually people knowingly doing unspeakable things to other people.
The alien is only following its natural instincts.
Yes.
Like a lion hunting its prey.
Thank you.
Yes.
And stop calling Jaws horror too.
And then someone just by an idiot was just like, so Jaws is a comedy?
Okay, idiot.
Fuck off.
But Jaws, yeah. I mean mean like that person's trying to make
the case that like well obviously jaws is a horror movie so i guess uh checkmate and it's like no i
don't think jaws is a horror movie like i don't yeah it all depends i mean people are that's
another thing that's being talked about now is now but what about jaws jaws is horror so but then
people are saying i don't look to each their own
at the end of the day i think we can all agree uh jaws is scary as shit and you don't want to
get in water after you watch it and alien will freak the fuck out of you yeah i did want to get
in water i wanted to get eaten by a shark like have you seen event horizon yeah that's a good
that's definitely horror right i i mean again, we're in space though.
But it does cross over into that evil spirit.
There's evil taking place.
It's not just a monster that is behaving.
So then our spirits, our spooky ghost shit is horror, right?
Right.
That's weird.
It's hard to say i don't know
if if you're gonna say if we're gonna say if we if we agree with l's logic that space
negates the horror like the ability to be categorized as horror then event horizon cannot
be horror right and also i mean when you think about it uh i've heard that in space nobody can
hear you scream exactly makes it even scarier
and check out
Event Horizon playing on more max
Saturday April 10th
at 8.05pm they played that at a
high school like movie
sleepover that I was at like
at my high school they played
Event Horizon that shit will still
fuck me up and I've seen it a lot
and I was like the av club did a
sleepover that was actually fun as shit that was a great high school event oh wow shout out to great
high school events huh i was the other day i was just talking about fucking uh grad night at
disneyland how seniors in like the la like orange county area like they have
nights towards the end of the year where those are loose from like eight to fucking eight
oh really eight p to eight yeah and it's basically when all the kids just did
wild drugs and shit and wow good would get like kids would get expelled off that trip
uh well here's another movie miles that we can ask that question about peeps is it a horror
movie or not they are making a peeps movie and also our writer jm points out that in case you
are noticing that peeps are everywhere this year uh both leading up to and after easter uh that's because there was a pandemic lead shortage last spring a shortage of peeps
and the peeps people were like gotta jump all over this and just flooded the zone with peep shit
um this year there was kellogg's peep marshmallow flavored cereal with marshmallows. Fuck Kellogg.
This is my episode of Behind the Bastards.
Yeah, the cum doctor.
With Robert Evans.
It's a two-parter, and I am thoroughly freaked out of my mind.
Yeah, it's gross.
Talking about Kellogg.
Anyway, quick plug for the friend of the pod.
For friend of the pod that does not need a plug
no hey man uh have the daily zeitgeist on behind the bastards
uh but that is marshmallow flavored cereal that has marshmallows in it
which is like having salad flavored salad dressing i guess marshmallow flavored so the the wood as uh it's called the
the non-marshmallow parts are marshmallow flavored that's what that's from uh doughboys i think nick
wiger's friend growing up called the the grain part of the grain part of cereal wood uh but um anyways that part is more flavored so everything is mallow uh but now
uh they're really seeing how how much we are feeling peeps because they have announced
day after easter that they are going to make a peeps movie uh the movie will be about a ragtag group of peeps who go on a
cross-country journey to attend the annual brand celebration peep fest this is not a movie this is
a movie yes how it's so i think they're basically doing right it's basically like the lego movie but uh poorly executed and uh no reason to exist but so peep fest is a real thing
that happens every year in bethlehem pennsylvania um and it's uh both like a peep lovers convention
and a new year's eve party featuring the dropping of a giant peep at midnight. So this is suggesting to me that peeps as a brand are like,
we are bigger than Easter.
Easter.
Like they are like Bruce Willis when his action career took off and he was
like,
I'm actually a blues singer.
You can call me Bruno.
Like peeps is like,
I am a global icon.
Easter ain't shit. that's just some shit
i'm associated with that's not me exactly um so they're trying to they're trying to
get that crossover finally from the peeps movie and i yeah i think we will all be asking the
question is this a horror movie? Yeah, absolutely.
It sounds like such a bad idea.
But this is the other thing that is starting to alarm me, is that we may be so out of touch with society that we don't realize the fucking, the pull of peep culture.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
For sure.
They're congregating on New Year's and praying to their golden peep culture yeah you know what i mean like they're congregating on new years and praying
to their golden peep yeah it's definitely like has an aesthetic like there there are peep uh
crocs that are like yeah crocs that look like peeps i guess um i just so divisive i feel like it's hard yeah like i don't like legos aren't divisive
i get right you know that's that's right peeps be fucking you up they they suck they taste like
garbage they're stupid the texture's whack uh i like it anna just pointed out that i said aesthetic
uh so yeah that's funny um aesthetic but peeps don't even taste good to like do people who like them like i feel
like they're more respecting the visuals no they're respecting their elderly family members
who they who were forcing them upon them from childhood and they don't want to they don't want to you know fight back against nana who gave me peeps every year right but i love it i don't know look it's like gang if you're if
you know if you know about this peep fest i need to know are we missing out is this some shit that's
wild because i'll go there this new year's fuck it i'll go i'll take molly at peep fest i'll fuck
act a fool yeah if you guys want to uh if you guys want to sponsor a uh peep fest uh daily
zeitgeist episode peeps we're here for it they're not peeps isn't even owned by like a major
corporation either they are like they're indie right just born quality confections
that is that's the name of it called Just Born? Just Born. Okay.
The Just Born identity.
Wow.
I mean, now that you mention it,
the perfect voice talent for this Peeps movie?
Mm-hmm.
Matt Damon.
There it is.
Exactly.
Thank you.
Mm-hmm.
Oh, who would have thought?
They have weird union disputes okay cool no way
not peeps not my peeps just born just born just born maker of shitty bird poison wow
yeah i don't i shout out like people let us know what if you are peep gang. Just so you know, Jack, if you ever go to the headquarters,
you know that the slogan is, a great candy isn't made.
It's just born.
Uh-huh.
There we go.
I don't know what that means, but that's what we got.
That suggests, like, a weird birthing process
where, like, there's some living creature
that is behind closed doors is this a bunch of just here like breathe push come on three
fucking weeks i did i did just watch uh my first easter movie with my kids i'd never seen the
christ yeah they they really did not like it i was i was surprised
they're like you see no look at what look at what our savior went through kids um my my son did
because some relatives you know want to bring up the jesus-y side of the holiday and that did lead
to a conversation of what is death where is heaven uh what does all that mean do we
die do i die yeah i was like here watch this movie hop instead uh and hop is like a christmas movie
uh but about easter kind of smart uh has james marsden uh as a 38 year old playing a young
slacker who like never does his character die like no james
marsden does in every movie he's in yeah no uh his wife is fucking some other dude but uh he does
not that's that's fucking a peep he's fucking the easter bunny uh the the easter bunny played by russell brand uh so it's very very
of a specific time um yeah man that's wild though those existential talks i remember when i learned
about death and i remember asking my dad if he was gonna die and he was without hesitation oh
yeah yeah everybody's gonna die you. You're going to die.
And I just started crying. Oh, no.
I just started crying.
He hit me with that.
Just to my virgin ears.
First question.
I'm like, do we die?
He's like, oh, yeah, everybody.
Oh, yeah, I bet.
Everybody's dead.
Everybody dies.
You're going to die.
You're already dead.
Taichi's going to die.
My friend Ty was next to me.
He's like, Taichi will die, too.
Wow.
And we were like, oh, yeah.
He was like, I already had this talk because he's like two years older than me no but i had to do the oh wait so will you be
in heaven when i go to heaven uh yeah but not for a long time not for a long time uh yeah and then
i'm like should i even be telling them this shit like that i don't know it's confusing because that is i as a very
young person remember coming to the realization that like heaven didn't really make sense and
then like that keeping me up for like nights on end wow like but eternity doesn't make sense how
could there um see and you know what your kids are lucky because jeremy renner has done the lifting for
us and now you can play that song heaven don't have a name that's true you know so we don't
know it's up it's up to us baby this could be heaven right now yes peeps fat just born peeps
factory is the name of heaven in my book uh all right guys that's gonna do it for uh this afternoon
we are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show
until then be kind to each other
be kind to yourselves wear a mask
and don't do nothing about white supremacy
we'll talk to y'all tomorrow
