Starting point is 00:00:53 Buckle up and listen to In Our Own World on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Trust us, it's out of this world. What happens when a professional football player's career ends and the applause fades and the screaming fans move on? Starting point is 00:01:38 Just kidding, I'm Amber Reffin. Okay, everybody, we have exciting news to share. We're back with season two of the Amber and Lacey, Lacey and Amber show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network. This season, we make new friends, deep dive into my steamy DMs, answer your listener questions and more. The more is punch each other. Listen to the Amber and Lacey, Lacey and Amber show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Just listen, okay? Or Lacey gets it. Do it. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Today We Celebrate Our Indotrendence Day.
Starting point is 00:02:21 That is courtesy of somebody whose name I didn't write down. Bill Pullman. I will find the purveyor of that name of the trending show by the end of this episode. I'm Jack O'Brien. That's Miles Gray. And this is What's Trending This Fine Friday Afternoon. The person with Into Trending's Day. I found it, at FaceForward1. Shout out to you.
Starting point is 00:02:49 FaceForward1. I also have my FaceForward. It's not on the back of my head. Oh, good. Yeah. So we have that in common. For the record. For the record.
Starting point is 00:02:57 For the record, it's pissbuck. Yeah, it's pissbuck. For people who don't know, search man washes hands in urinal. It's a YouTube video of an American at a Dutch EDM festival. And because the public urinals are kind of out in the open, this American person who's usually used to peeing in private thought it was a hand wash, and it's a fantastic video. Hard to record.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Let's talk about Takashi is trending. Yeah. That is... He's back. Of the 6ix9ine variety, Takashi 6 variety takashi six nine came back dropped new music did an ig live with over two million viewers and called himself the king of new york yeah he's back is his hair back to normal to his credit he'd hit the roots are fully out so he's dealing with a bit of an identity crisis so at the very least we do know he has not been to see anyone who would do his hair.
Starting point is 00:03:47 But yeah, his live was pop. And I think, you know, he's going off this like Meek Mill was saying he needs to apologize for being a rat or whatever. And, you know, he's back. He's trolling. He's doing his thing. I don't know. I was never a fan, but that's what's a trend in. Dude, he's my favorite rapper.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Oh, yeah? No, I've never heard a single song by him. I think I've heard like five seconds of songs, and I'm like, not for me. I only need to know how on Bodega Boys when Mero starts doing his impersonation of Tekashi69. That's all I need. Yeah, that's close enough.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Boycott Costco is trending, at least in my household it is, because these assholes at Costco trying to tell me I have to wear a mask to get my rotisserie chicken. Damn it. This is trending among Republicans because they don't think they should have to wear a mask. This is, by the way, okay,
Starting point is 00:04:43 so Costco, you have to show an id card to get in there like costco doesn't even act like it's like a place where you're just like free to do whatever the fuck you want it's like a club you have to join and pay fees to even enter and right also go fuck yourself you of course you have to wear a fucking mask also just like with the amount i don't know every outrage on the right is just bullshit at this point it's like okay because the bottom line is these people don't have the conviction to ever do anything that would inconvenience them they don't have any principles as human beings so the most they can do is just threaten to boy boy i said boy scout boycott
Starting point is 00:05:26 costco and that's how they feel that they're going to get their point across but you know because this happens every time with keurig and volvo and nike it's like yeah okay because i'm betting you did it you're not going to do this the whole reason you're mad is because you're inconvenienced you're going to further inconvenience yourself to go to not go to the big box store where you buy like all of you you know just okay nice well it's tough to start a trend when you are the least fashionable people on the planet and like are not responsible for any culture of note ever so like conservatives yeah nobody's when they're like, yo, we're not wearing Nikes. It's like, all right, we wouldn't notice, honestly, because nobody pays attention to what you guys wear. And like Costco is not sweating over the fact that a bunch of 65 and up white people are not going there anymore because first of all, they will.
Starting point is 00:06:23 And second of all yeah you know they're not they're not convincing anybody else well this also this like rights shit it's like they want to rah rah have a party when a cake shop is like no i'm not making a cake for this gay couple because that's my like you know fuck that i can choose that as a store owner i can choose that that's my right as a store owner but costco is saying hey we're trying to not have our other patrons and employees get sick and possibly die please wear a mask to enter yet that's the whole other you know again there's no it's only selective like in terms of what they're willing to stand up for. There's nothing consistent. It's just whatever matches the mood and whatever the culture war flashpoint is.
Starting point is 00:07:09 I'm just going to say I'm happy to be on the side. I am in the culture war because they are having to support some of the dumbest shit of all time. Like just. Yeah. So congratulations to all of you. And there have been people asking Costco managers managers like have people been canceling it's like yeah some some but we're also but but they're like we're also getting like wild new memberships because people like are trying to buy things in bulk and also some people are buying uh memberships just to counteract people who are just being stupid about saying, like, it's my right to kill a worker in your store with my germs.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Yeah. Uh-huh. Let's talk about this tweet that's going around. Which player from the 2000s do you wish had a longer career? About NBA players whose careers ended too soon. I'll tell you one person whose career ended too soon that i didn't realize and this is a correct o'brien jack o'brien uh why wasn't he drafted first of all no i want to talk about craig hodges real quick three-point specialist from the chicago
Starting point is 00:08:20 bulls for the first two championships has i I think, still to this day, the best performances in the NBA three-point shooting contest. And I said recently while reviewing The Last Dance, the New Jordan documentary, that I didn't care that he was omitted from the documentary. I was wrong because I didn't realize that Craig Hodges had some pretty good politics. He wanted Magic and Michael to boycott the 91 finals in protest of the Rodney King beating. I'll talk a little bit more about this. I'll talk about this a little bit more on Tuesday's episode of the show when we talk about The Last Dance because I was wrong to say. People should be talking about Greg Hodges more, I think is really what I came away with
Starting point is 00:09:10 after a listener pointed that out. Also ahead of his time. He was a great three-point shooter at a time when people weren't shooting enough threes, and we have since realized that that is the most important shot in basketball. Pretty cool. Turns out it's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:09:26 But yeah, so this tweet from Bleacher Report, I was like, I only got to it because names like Brandon Roy or just Odin or Bynum were trending. I'm like, what the fuck is going on? And because this tweet from Bleacher Report says, which player from the 2000s do you wish had a longer career? The options being Jay Williams at the Bulls, Bynum, Andrew Bynum when he played the Lakers greg odin blazers brandon roy blazers gila
Starting point is 00:09:49 rainis the wizards or yao ming at the rockets and even though i'm look there are a lot of people it's weird this is one i was surprised how i had something to i had i had a strong feeling about every person in this grid but i honestly feel like brandon roy brandon is the with lamarcus aldridge together i thought could have looked fucking freaky and i had like one of my really close friends who grew up in la with me he went to school up in portland and was always talking about brandon roy whatever and i was like whatever whatever and i started watching like oh shit this motherfucker's really good and Then the injuries were... I don't know. For me, Brandon Roy really stands out to me on that list.
Starting point is 00:10:28 I'm a Laker fan. And Gila Raines is from North Hollywood. Brandon Roy was immediately the person who jumped out to me. I didn't realize Jay Williams... Those were in order of how young they were when their career ended. I didn't realize Jay Williams' career ended at age 21. Yeah. I know he had a motorcycle accident, but I didn't realize that was the end.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Yeah. Younger than you. Yeah. I mean, that's wild to think. Jay Williams was younger than me when his career ended. Think about that. when his career ended. Think about that.
Starting point is 00:11:10 You always talk about me as the youngest up-and-coming dude in podcasting. Yeah. Gilarenas, I'm not as... I mean, fine. Gilarenas doesn't... I don't know. His career ended at 30. That's a lot of people's careers end at 30. I mean, it's a little young young but he was also a you know
Starting point is 00:11:26 six four player like it doesn't get that much better from that point forward you know yeah i guess jay williams just like definitely leaves them and him and odin leave the most question marks like right i wish i was able to put together a larger data set to see what they were looking like to kind of predict more of a trajectory larger data set to see what they were looking like to kind of predict more of a trajectory. You got to see that with Roy and everybody else on this list and even Bynum. But yeah, Jay Williams and Greg Oden,
Starting point is 00:11:54 I'm always like, what? He's curious. And I mean, just shout out to Bynum. I don't know if he even belongs on that list. Well, I think it's because he has so much hype. And especially for Laker fans, we were in we were heavily invested on him coming good on like what we thought his potential was but then you
Starting point is 00:12:11 would see him with his weird ass haircuts on the bench uh and then i just saw along trending with this they say one of the most significant moments in nba history is when bynum was thrown out of the calves practice for shooting too many threes. He just didn't like basketball. It's kind of hard to be like, man, how much better would this dude's career have been if he liked basketball? Like, well, I mean, at that point, what are we even talking about?
Starting point is 00:12:39 It's not like his career was cut short necessarily by a freak injury. Brandon Roy is also tough because his career was cut short necessarily by a freak injury. Brandon Roy is also tough because his career was cut short by an injury that was almost like a chronic condition, I feel like. Yeah. Al Gore, another one whose NBA career was not as long as a lot of people were predicting when he entered the league. He's also trending. Not for this.
Starting point is 00:13:01 He was not included on this Bleacher report uh spreadsheet but uh what why is al gore trending actually i don't know because al gore is trending because he's he's back at it again i mean i don't know if you guys are familiar with albert arnold gore jr but this man has scathing takes and this one buckle up your seatbelts because al has done done it again he is he is describing what is going on right now with the reopening as quote this looks like the start of a botched reopening damn son now hold that trump yeah i mean so That's his take Dude, this looks Yeah, no shit Al Gore, thanks a lot man I wish people would listen to you
Starting point is 00:13:50 More when you're talking about Climate change, but It is true, this does look like a I wonder if he hit post and then Said to himself, that'll get their attention Out loud Or if it was just in his head Game, set, and and match yeah there's people
Starting point is 00:14:06 like gore and hillary who are still like kind of hanging around like keeping the keeping their name in the in the public eye i'm wondering if they're like because they think there's a chance biden has to drop out maybe could you imagine if the democrat if biden dropped out and they went with gore or hillary because i feel like that's who they would go with look i'm i'm already dealing with a lot right now i don't need to fucking i don't need to play this mind exercise we're getting triple shat on hey we'll see we don't know what's gonna happen this this yeah that that question has never made me want to go into the weekend more right just having to think like what the fuck they're gonna sub this dude in oh my goodness but i, I mean, I would still take him over.
Starting point is 00:15:06 I mean, look. Hillary. He's definitely going to take climate change seriously, and that alone to me is fantastic. But, yeah, let's leave that. Let's leave those nine games for later on. You know who I'd like to see them pull in? Jay Williams.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Oh, yeah. I mean, what a talent. All right, Miles. That is going to do it for this week. Another one in the book. Swish. Another one. From downtown. Hope you have a good weekend, Miles.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Hope you guys have a good weekend. Listeners, wash your hands. Be good to each other. Wear masks outside. Either don't jog or if you're going to jog, wear a mask whilst jogging. Yeah. Be good to each other. We'll be back on Monday with another podcast.
