Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Late at Night.
Yeah, nailed that vocal performance right there.
I mean, look, Kid Cudi's not the most skilled vocalist, but you know, he makes it work.
We were just talking about, you know, that's its own swag, not being able to sing.
Who's your favorite bad singer?
I love Kid Cudi's bad singing.
Yeah, me too.
I think it's fantastic.
I think that's the appeal, though, too, for a lot of people.
You can sing it as good as Cudi does on an album, singing along.
I mean, that's the whole theory behind why popular music is like
all the chords are like so close together and like easy is because
they want songs that your brain can sing back to you without any musical skill right exactly and
like you don't need vocal range what are you you're not fucking freddie mercury just keep everything
real tight right here just sing it all speak for man. Oh, you're doing runs? How many octaves? Jack, how many octaves can you go?
Vibrato. Like dozens. Wow!
That's more than a piano. Yeah.
Damn, we should, okay, well, we'll have to check
that out. Anyways, I am Jack and that over
there, well, that's Miles Gray.
And here are some of the things that are trending on this Tuesday afternoon.
Kid Cudi is trending.
That's why we, is your mind fucking blown?
We started out talking Kid Cudi, and then that was trending.
It's like, wow. Not like yesterday.
We did a Luke Hemsworth reference.
But really, the main thing we title is Kendrick Lamar, even though we already done Trendrick Lamar.
But that's just how the names work.
Sometimes we're tapped in.
Oh, yeah.
Trendlick Lamar.
Trendlick.
Trendlick.
Yeah, I already said my brain is broken today.
Yeah.
So.
Next NFL Combine combine we'll do
the trender lick test yes but anyway kid cuddy he's trending because he tweeted this thing out
basically saying like i do not fuck with kanye west anymore and the way he clarified that was
this is his tweet hey so i know some of you heard about the song i got with pusha pusha t
uh i did this song a year ago when i was still cool with Kanye. I am not cool with that man.
He is not my friend. And I only
cleared this song for Pusha because that's my guy.
This is the last song
you will hear me on with Kanye.
Scott. Signed Scott.
He signed that Scott.
I feel like he refers to himself
a lot as Scott. Yeah, I think since
the therapy and stuff, he's been more like, you know,
I don't need to be Kid Cudi. I'm just Scott Miscutty call me Scott so yeah Scott Miscutty yeah Miscutty
is his last name man yeah that's a great name um great name great uh artist a great bad singer
yeah I really liked uh Kid Seagos sometimes yeah their little collaboration uh do we know what
initiated this i know cuddy and uh pete davidson are good friends i think they just in general
that they've been like i felt like he connie was always saying shit about kid cuddy and like
i don't know it's it's hard to know i feel like things have
been tense for a long time and they kept coming back to each other and like kid c ghost was like
big because they're like oh my god cuddy and kanye are back together again but i'm sure with
like the state kanye west has been recently i'd imagine maybe someone who was like trying to be
a friend and being really honest with him probably got like a quick, rapid ticket out the fucking entourage.
So I don't know.
I mean, whatever.
I'm glad to see Scott doing all right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The Santas is trending.
What's what's this fellow up to?
So many.
It's honestly, it's like like take your pick right now there's one where
he's there was like a press conference where he was talking about um the math books and he was
like i don't want to talk like i'm not going to tell you what we saw in there uh and many people
like just look at the people who got the fucking contract and then work your way back from there
to draw direct lines to ron desantis and then also he's also people are saying though like it was it was corrupt he just like was giving
it out to his homies uh well i think right now it's like so murky right that you know uh aside
from just like the the parts about it where they're like they really do think that concepts
of people working together is like you know
like antithetical to their
aims of having a completely fucked up world
I feel like it's also
like we talked about on this
morning's episode it's like
them just stunting you
know just trying to like make
grab a headline for sure it's all
that's why that's why Abbott's doing
it that's why DeSantis is doing it they're all running in november like right then the loudest assholes
keep farting because they want the attention and this and here he is doing his thing but now this
time he also he's doubling down again because he's also talking about taking like revoking disney's
like you know special status in the state because they have like the right to like semi-self-governance in florida which i didn't i knew they they basically
have like florida lets them do whatever the fuck they want but he was specifically talking about
this thing called the reedy creek improvement district which is a private government controlled
by disney world and it was set up by the state in like this late sixties and allows like this
zone,
this improvement district to provide the government services that the state
normally would like zoning stuff,
fire protection,
utilities,
infrastructure.
And he's like,
well,
what if we did away with that?
And some of the tax breaks,
uh,
but many people are like,
you're going to try and fuck up the biggest employer.
And one of like big,
one of the biggest employers in the state,
if not the largest.
Yeah, it's pretty erratic.
Okay.
We'll see how that goes.
But yeah, again, it's all about inflicting maximum pain
and chaos and then saying like,
and see the reason why it's all fucked up
is because I had to do that to protect the children.
Is Max Payne the character's full name, Maximum name maximum pain that's a question just a video game
character max pain uh i mean i know it's a man with nothing to lose but yeah no you're max p-a-y-n-e
that max pain yeah is it maximilian pain maximum he's just max you know let me see his wikipedia
real quick yeah i was just looking trying to figure it out anyways Johnny Depp is trending
so Gawker if you're not reading checking out the new Gawker they're back they got some good
writers over there and they were pointing out a couple days ago that um the the live feed of the Depp-Herd trial,
Johnny Depp is in a defamation civil case with his ex, Amber Heard,
and that there's a lot of support
for Johnny Depp on TikTok,
and it seems like the young generation
is really feeling this man
more than would seem obvious
based on first of all the fact that like there's seems to be a lot of documentation of
him being pretty fucked up um but also um like it's we were we were trying before we started
recording trying to figure out like where the affinity comes from.
He's been washed for a while.
Right.
Washed to us.
Right.
Because I was like, man, what do you want me to dust off my old Benny and June VHS and fucking get down to some old Johnny Depp?
But I feel like for these kids, they see Captain Jack Sparrow and they see, you know, all those other like kid films he was doing when we were like, OK, Johnny Depp.
Right. Like early 2000s, kid films are still kind of new enough and probably on streaming enough to still resonate and i i think this article even so gawker tried to figure it out and they were like
you know he's started movies like alice in wonderland bad uh public enemies good the tourist
mordecai uh like all these movies just listing them out and they were like what what is it pirates
four dark shadows um i think you can't underestimate like knowing how
entertainment works like my kids favorite movies are not the ones that like come out in theaters
while they're little it's like stuff from five ten years ago like we've talked about the hell that uh
cars 2 has created in my brain uh since that became my older son's favorite movie.
But, you know, like pirates are a whole thing.
Like pirates are like a phase that kids go through.
We reached out to our listeners in one episode and we're like, let us know like the phases you went through as a kid,
especially if they were weird.
We got some really good ones like,
you know,
Greek mythology.
There's a lot of kids out there who are really into Greek mythology when they
were,
you know,
four to eight years old.
But pirates is like a classic.
It's like,
it's easy.
Yeah,
it's easy.
It's there with dinosaurs.
So we were like maybe
like and then you remember that performance is pretty undeniable right like it's a massive
mainstream hit um that like has a major cultural like footprint and it's a very charismatic performance um so i don't know i was saying like
it's i wouldn't put it on the level with like ledger's joker but it's like it's like that kind
of thing where you're just like yeah this is every every moment that he's on camera you're
kind of really enjoying it and he's dressed as a fucking pirate so right yeah you know ledger's
joker like that's still one of the most popular costumes that like every year for halloween still
to this day so yeah i mean i think and also jack sparrow he's got he's got the charisma that people
like a kid is going to gravitate towards it It's like, he's silly and possibly drunk the whole time.
Yeah.
And I feel like that's,
that's why I saw,
man,
that's so funny.
I didn't even think about this.
Like my nephew had a captain Jack Sparrow impersonator,
like at his birthday a couple of years ago.
And this dude was feeling it.
Yeah.
He was,
he was not going to give these kids he was not going to let them
just see him get into
his normal car that is not a pirate
ship and leave. He was in
character the whole time. He even had
a modern duffel
bag. He pulled up with a fucking
calf skin
fucking satchel and shit
for his fake pirate swords. yeah man there's a beauty to
that i appreciate that yeah you know um you know as i talked about the spider-man at my kid's fourth
birthday was like miserably hung over had a watch on the outside of his spider-man costume um and did like a single somersault and
then realized like that that made his head hurt too bad because of whatever he was going through
and uh just sat down and put his head in his hands for a couple hours so i i i love somebody who's
like you know what this is this isn't where i my career going, but it's where I am,
and I am going to fuck this role right up.
I'm going to bring it today.
Anyways, yeah, let us know, Zeitgang.
Where are you?
Where are your kids on the Johnny Depp love? Like, the shit that's happening in this feed that Gawker documents is like,
first of all,
they're like,
these are young people who use phrases like gaslighting.
Um,
and you know,
things like,
like they're not anti-social justice at the same time when someone's like,
ah,
Amber looks so sad.
They're like,
shut the fuck up.
Like,
like really strong. And there's like like, ah, Amber looks so sad. They're like, shut the fuck up. Like, like really strong.
And there's like a,
uh,
hashtag justice for Johnny depth,
uh,
hashtag on Tik TOK that has 1.1 billion views.
And like the most popular entries include Johnny debt being a whole mood at
his trial today,
a fan meeting depth on his way out of London courthouse caption,
the best day of my life
list of celebs who support Depp um a fan telling Depp to keep on fighting because the public is
united on his side so like it's it's very strange it's almost like the French loving Jerry Lewis
like where you're like for real huh so that king doesn't really make sense but okay
like i'm not everyone because everybody's looking at it through their own lens that we
we do not have those glasses on yeah i'm just trying to think back like to first seeing pirates
and being like yeah all right i remember but i have to go further back i'm like i remember
seeing flight of the navigator and being like y'all want to check out ford lauderdale right in my mind that was the most exotic place because this
movie had weird spaceship shit but i'm like wait but he's from ford lauderdale i have not heard of
this place and if there's some spaceships going off there i want to know more yeah i don't know
how these brains work yeah so i was trying to think otherwise, like it by this logic,
Jeff Goldblum should be beloved by young kids because he also gives a,
like one of those can't take your eyes off them.
Like the screen,
every time he's on screen,
the movie's super watchable in Jurassic park,
which is a dinosaur movie,
which is probably the only thing that's like more central,
like kid phase than, you sharks and pirates but I was also thinking like that
that performance just like straight up I think would have confused me as like a four-year-old
right Jeff Goldblum like why is that man making love to the camera while talking about math would have been the thoughts
that went through my head. Anyways, let's take a quick break. We'll be right back.

In 1982, Atari players had one thing on their minds.
Sword Quest.
This wasn't just a new game.
Atari promised $150,000 in prizes to four finalists.
But the prizes disappeared.
And what started as a video game promotion
became one of the most controversial moments in 80s pop culture.
I just don't believe they exist.
My reaction, shock and awe.
That sword was amazing. It was so beautiful.
I'm Jamie Loftus.

across four decades.
It's almost like a metaphor for the industry
and Atari itself in a way.
Listen to The Legend of Sword Quest
on the iHeartRadio app, radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts
and we're back uh and libs of tiktok is trending so this is a tiktok account where
that that is basically like fueling a lot of the right-wing talking
points about how liberals are all pedophiles yeah i mean like specifically there's a lot of like you
know you can point a lot of uh you could draw a lot of lines to the homophobia and transphobia
with like stuff that is posted on this libs of tiktok account like this account will go through
tiktok and like for example it'll find like a teacher who works in a state that is going to have a don't say gay bill or something like
that enacted. And they're venting about, they're like, well, I'm, I'm gay and I'm a teacher. And
I like, I can't talk about my marriage at all, or like raising a question like that.
And then this Libs of TikTok, I'm like, here's a teacher, you know, they're really look at what
they're trying to do.
They're acting like they can't push their agenda now because of these laws, etc.
And you'll see like people like the press secretary for fucking Governor DeSantis be like, what district is this?
And they're like basically pointing it out.
And like, there's not a lot done to make this person anonymous.
So they're essentially being like, know finding people to harass uh and
using this account to do it and a lot of this you know there even there was even mentioned that this
uh there was like a reference to this account when like desantis was talking about their own
like don't say gay bill like legislation so there is this conversation where the shit that's posted
on this account ends up going into the talking point machine of the right wing and then eventually
expresses itself in like legislation so taylor lorenz at the washington post you know uh seemed
to have figured out who the person running the account was and now conservatives are like
freaking out because they're just like this is like this is dark single and it's like hold on
this whole account is made to like harass people so what are you talking about and yeah also i think you're also worried that you're like the
thing that helped gave or give some sort of like sense of realism to the just out there nonsense
that you talk about that that is now being examined more and people being like wait what is this thing
that y'all are so into um hmm and the and the person that they found out it was is like a
just a real estate agent in florida is that right uh it was in brooklyn as a real estate agent and
then like you know was the you know doing real jan sixer stuff too so oh hell yeah predictable
predictable um bill o'reilly while we're on
the subject of predictable right-wing assholes you know i mean i guess the stresses of like
the current situation the current political climate uh can get to anyone because bill o'reilly
we typically you know assume he's pretty unflappable, will not completely lose his shit at a teleprompter.
It will not lose his shit on a teleprompter.
Yeah.
We'll do it live.
Yeah, fuck it.
We'll do it live.
Fucking thing sucks, he says, of a thing that is just scrolling the way
he's supposed to read in front of
him.
Anyways, I'll just read
the description from the Daily Mail
and
this, you know, typically we don't use the Daily
Mail as a source, but this is
just a description of what is happening in a video.
Dressed in a light jacket,
rumpled pants,
and bright white sneakers, the six foot four commentator towers over the airline worker
and says, what you're going to do, it's three hours late, he says. He can then be heard saying,
no, no, no, no. You're going to find out, jabbing his finger aggressively at the airline employee.
When the employee says something o'reilly responds you
fucking scumbag don't talk to me like that i love that everyone's a scumbag to him this is like
an airport airline employee fucking scumbag yeah fucking scumbag i bet you're in in cahoots with the mafia like the scumbag thing is just so it just represents such
a very limited uh worldview uh or rather than squints at the worker's name tag which the man
hopefully holds up for him so he can read it more easily um and then o'reilly starts cursing
as his face contorts in anger.
Exact words cannot be made out on the video.
The airline worker objects to O'Reilly's tone.
You're threatening me with violence, man, he says.
No, I'm not, replies O'Reilly.
O'Reilly takes another look at the man's name tag, tells him you're going to lose your job,
and then demands you're going to get that information
before storming away from the counter. him you're gonna lose your job uh and then demands you're going to get that information before
storming away from the counter it does in a lot of ways like line up with the because the the thing
about the um the fuck it will do a live meltdown is that it's not really clear like what he's mad
at or like what what it was the awkward wording yeah the outro music for the show that but then he says the
fucking things sucks and that um it's it's the thing where like you you you try and be like aha
this thing's shitty and then someone be like no it's not that's normal and you'd be like well
actually this all this is all fucked up then you know what i mean like he couldn't because it
sounded like he he was having trouble finding out
how he's gonna articulate to play us out and like the person's like i don't know that's pretty
normal language right and then when he like probably processed that like yeah i'm just
a fucking idiot he then just went to this fucking thing sucks because he couldn't just
accept that he was wrong which is what this whole shit is about. All these people is they can never hear something like, oh, okay, right, my bad. Right. It's no, this thing sucks. And whatever happened here must have been like, oh, well, you know, you're late for your flight, so we can't really help you. And it's like, no, now I think his flight was canceled or delayed. Very frustrating. But he wants the information what information not clear your name your employee
id number i will have you terminated because as we know the people at the front uh at like
front-facing people who are dealing with customer service at an airline are also the ones making the
calls about which flights get delayed and canceled.
And also, you think they haven't heard that shit
before, too? Right. Yeah.
I'm going to hold you responsible.
What's your name? You're getting fired. It's right
here, sir. Yeah. Hold it
up to your face. Knock yourself out,
Jadakiss, because ain't shit going to happen
to me. And finally, Netflix
is trending. Uh-oh.
Shares cratered 23% after the company reported that it lost subscribers for the first time in more than 10 years.
I can see that.
I can see that.
I don't know.
It does feel like Netflix is like...
Maybe you shouldn't raise your prices.
There's already inflation and the product like there's just they're they're losing
losing out on being like man netflix has good shit it's like now like man there's a lot of
streaming services like it's not we're losing in this situation by like having to pay more money
for other services but yeah i mean now i think about all the streaming services i have i'm like man i might as
well have fucking cable uh but netflix you know for them to lose subscribers for the first time
in 10 years i think that says a lot like whether that's again speaks to the streaming wars and how
everybody's like knuckling up with their own service or if it has something to do with the content or just the prices, whatever it is.
I'm sure it can't be good for old Netflix.
But I feel like now they're kind of turning into TLC and shit.
Where it's like, I'm like, yeah, man, I go for the trash dating shows.
That's what I go to Netflix for.
Yeah, wild to see.
We'll see where they end up.
go to Netflix for.
Yeah.
Wild to see.
We'll see where they end up.
TLC.
It's like from TLC up to like
some of the shit
is like HBO quality
but like that's when
it's really like peaking
I guess.
And then
yeah as we talked about
Apple.
Apple Plus has like
some good shit.
HBO Max has some good shit.
I watched that first episode of Severance.
Yeah, I'm supposed to watch that.
Enough to make me be like,
all right, I guess I'll keep this.
Watch the next one.
Well, there you go.
All right.
Well, those are some of the things
that are trending on this April 19th afternoon.
Get ready.
Well, what are you doing to prepare for 420?
Just
stretching my fingertips out.
I can stay holding the
joint all day. Decorating the trees,
man. Hell yeah, dude.
Putting all the
pot leaf streamers up around the house.
Nice, man. Nice. Man, I ain't doing shit.
Oh, right.
I might watch the Batman for 420, I think. Oh, really? Yeah, I haven I ain't doing shit. I might watch the
Batman for 420, I think. Oh, really?
Yeah, I haven't seen it, so I want to watch it.
Would that be in theaters or is that
that's dropping on streaming? No, that's going to
be at Gray MC 420.
Okay. My local
theater. But yeah, the only thing I
told you, I went to see everything everywhere all at once
in the theater. And how was the
theater experience? How did you feel? It was once. And how, how was the theater experience?
How did you feel?
It was cool.
Yeah,
it was a smaller theater,
so it wasn't like,
it wasn't as packed.
So it wasn't,
you know,
I don't,
and I wasn't,
and I went for like an early matinee too.
There you go.
So I was going for,
you know,
I was trying to,
I was trying to play the numbers.
There you go.
Uh,
all right.
Well,
those are the things that are trending.
We are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. Bye.
