Every great player needs a foil.
I know I'll go down in history.
People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game.

Hi, I'm Eva Longoria.
Hi, I'm Maite Gomez-Rejon.
Our podcast, Hungry for History, is back.
And this season, we're taking in a bigger bite
out of the most delicious food and its history.
Seeing that the most popular cocktail is the margarita,
followed by the mojito from Cuba,
and the piña colada from Puerto Rico.

Well,
well, well. Oh, no.
They say the Lakers
couldn't be swept.
Well, that's true. Maybe.
Anyway, we've got teams moving on
up and other teams just on the
way to wherever they go after the season ends for them.
I can see you beckoning from the NBA afterlife.
Yeah, I'm saying come to me.
Come to the light, Sixers fans.
It's comfortable here when you accept that you are watched.
Please.
We are recording this before the Sixers have been officially eliminated for that, just so people understand.
Wow, you're committing to it right now, sight unseen.
You know. Okay, that's how we make peace with peace with things anyway so we're going to be talking about that
we'll be talking about all the incredible playoff basketball today and we're going to discuss
with writer jasmine walkins on today's episode writer and sneeze therapist writer and sneeze
therapist also creative lead writer at widening canedy bodega okay we only have the top draw guests here
anyway i'm miles gray and i'm jack o'brien and this is a mouse and jack
got it with five he's
gonna try another three mr lebron james
jasmine l watkins the funniest person on nba twitter I got to say recently, you've made things so much easier for me to digest,
except laugh about,
laugh through my pain as a Laker fan.
Anyway,
welcome.
Welcome back.
It's great.
You seem a little sad.
I'm not sad.
I'm so happy.
I think it is so great. Wow. We, we didn't get swept though. I think it is so great
Wowee
We didn't get swept
There are people, there are Laker fans coping
right now being like we didn't get swept though
Progress, it's called progress
Ever heard of it? Yeah technically it is
Technically it is
That does mean something
I mean they're not worse
so I don't know
You guys got better uh yeah you know
yep i call it a success and just take uh to quote uh joe biden take the win uh maybe we don't want
to reference that um yeah jasmine how's your how's your uh playoff watching experience been so far
uh now that the hurt is gone it's better uh you know you just gotta tweet
through the pain pretty much yeah and it's yo laker fans are coming after me because i've said
some things but i'm like y'all don't know that i'm one of you yeah we're we're all in this together
we all suck together yeah exactly yeah sometimes you know you have to know the the best the most cutting commentary comes from the
people that love you most yeah you know what i mean and you're channeling yeah because for real
you we when we when you know the team and everything that's involved with it so intimately
you're gonna have a level of analysis that's just that is gonna cut so much deeper and then be like
what were you a hater you're like no i love this place that's
why the hurt is so bad but yeah um whatever let's uh where do we want to even start i guess uh i
mean do we want to start with a quote from zomal yeah bring the quote back bring the quote back
the quote i think we're the best duo i think they're in a bigger market and people have more interest in LeBron and AD
in LA or what Dame and
Giannis could do in
the massive market of Milwaukee, my
editorializing, or what Luca and
Kyrie could do. If we're talking about the best
duos and getting the job done
and how they play for each other
and with each other, I think me
and Jokic are undoubtedly number one. Jamal
Murray of the
denver nuggets yes don't say that like a question yeah he had two game winners in a five game series
yeah i know that although the last one we basically rolled out the purple and gold carpet
and said hey man go, just piece us up.
Some of the defensive scheming was questionable.
They were scheming against the
fans.
They were doing these schemes.
Yeah, scheming implies like a level
of complexity and
sophistication.
Yeah, but I don't know.
I mean, is it really Jokic and Murray?
Michael Porter Jr.
just pieced us up game after game?
His shooting was, oh, he just won.
I mean, no disrespect to him, obviously, but my goodness, put a 23-8 on 55-49-77 splits for the series.
I saw something about how his three-point shooting was just miles ahead of everyone else on the team
and yeah we saw that and we experienced it
Jasmine what do we do?
Where do we go from here?
Roster wise I think
I think
some changes have to be made and it starts
at the top with pockets, Coach Ham
he gotta go
then from there I it's tough i think you have to keep braun ad
but i don't know i'm some days i'm right there with d low and the other days i'm just not there
that the lows are too low yeah yeah the d lows are too low i think you guys need to move on from D low for as an outside observer.
I just,
it's not because when he's good on offense,
he's very good,
but he's still not good on defense.
No.
And when he's not good on offense,
he's bad on both sides of the court.
And it's just,
I don't know.
I saw my good friends to producer Jabari,
you know,
get sucked in and I'm tired of. I saw my good friend, Super Producer Jabari get sucked in
and I'm tired of seeing D-Lo
hurt you guys as an outside observer.
I'm not hurt. I gave up.
I just want you guys to move on.
Find somebody who can play defense.
No, when a Sixers fan is
giving you sympathy, it is time.
Yeah.
We've got a lot of stuff right now.
The light has gone out behind my eyes i don't know
if you can see that yeah no yeah you look like the dude in the crossroads the bone thugs in harmony
video somebody's hand just came and touched me on the forehead and my eyes went completely black
yeah exactly then you just came for me too and i'm gonna miss everybody
yeah uncle charles please but like yeah i don't know i mean now we're there there's so many
reports ham is staying ham is gone lebron is staying lebron is gone the lakers will help
lebron reunite with his son that cannot happen i'm just sorry i'm this is not a family reunification
center this is a sporting franchise where we're trying to
hang up banners.
I would do it to keep LeBron.
If LeBron wanted to come to Philly...
Well, because y'all are not used to nice things.
Exactly.
We'd be like, hey, man.
We'll employ your son here.
Go ahead. Let him.
Y'all would draft
Derry to get LeBron.
Yeah. That's right. go ahead and let him let him yeah we'd draft to get LeBron yeah yeah we would
that's right
we would draft
whoever he wants us
to draft
to get LeBron
honestly
but
Philadelphia is like a
you know
Eastern European nation
in the early 90s
we'll do whatever
you know
we don't
we don't have rules
we don't have standards
you're like yeah
you want to own that
yeah go ahead
that's yours I guess you've been here
long enough cool yeah
Yeltsin Soviet block you know that's what
we're vibing exactly rise of the
oligarchs but yeah I don't know
I mean there's really nothing to say I'm
I don't you know what I've made
my peace thank you so much
for this season
you seem at peace
last year I thought you guys might have been the second best
team in the west this year i mean that that was as you know last year was the best like the closest
sweep of a series i've ever seen this was another one where it's like man that really
in a lot of ways felt like it could have gone in either direction, but it actually couldn't have because
of
just how
deadly the Nuggets are and how many different
ways they can kill you. It's just
they're so good.
I don't know who stops them.
But Minnesota
looks tough.
Like Ant looks
I'm starting to get excited about Minnesota's tough. Like, Ant looks...
I'm starting to get excited about Minnesota's chances.
Yeah.
I mean, oof.
Swept the Suns.
Ha ha!
At least we didn't get swept.
Ha ha ha!
But man, Anthony Edwards is so good.
And just, he is really being like i'm here y'all
like in every game he's like i don't care who it is where i'm at every everyone is going to
get it in this building whether it's doing the degeneration x which is right there on their court you know what i mean uh it was just yeah yeah yeah uh but i don't know i mean
like i don't know what for me like aside from yeah the wolves looking great i'm now i'm like
what are the suns okay because what who thought that was gonna work no to be like of the two of
the three of us who thought that was gonna work me i hoped it was gonna work because i i like uh frank vogel and i like kd
and it did not emotionally yeah we'd like for that to hurt but we know if we're being objective
or like show me one that worked show me i hope for a lot of things that don't come true yeah yeah
that was exactly um by the way i just started recording uh we've i've i've only been recording
three podcasts a day for uh 10 years now uh but i forgot to record this one yeah so hey we're both
we're frazzled man we're frazzled yeah yeah it's uh we're on the ropes right now you know no one
can blame you but yeah i don't know i mean i i think just like looking at it like now it looks
like it's falling apart like with whispers of like devin booker was like get me out of here and you're
yeah be like they they they're kind of handcuffed to everybody like y'all got no nothing they got
nothing to offer anybody right now so i don't know what happened yeah i just don't know how it gets
better from here because it seems like the change they're going to make
is coaching change.
And we've seen other people move on from Vogel
to worse coaching situations in the past.
So I'm not saying, I'm not naming names, Jesse.
I'm not saying what franchise I'm talking about.
But it can only be one.
But I, yeah, i don't know like beal is locked in he did not look good in that series um i don't know maybe maybe there's a future where like everybody's a little bit more healthy but i don't
there's gonna they're gonna need to find a really strong fourth piece.
Fourth and fifth and sixth piece
somehow.
I don't know who it is.
Grace and Allen getting hurt,
it's easy to miss the fact that he
was huge for them this year.
He led the league
in three-point shooting this year.
He was really a strong...
He was probably the third-best player on the team this year because really like a strong, uh, I mean,
he was probably the third best player on the team this year.
Uh,
cause Beal was hurt a lot of the time and didn't have a great season.
But,
um,
so I think that was a big miss,
uh,
for like,
they missed him a lot in the playoffs,
but I,
it's not,
there,
there's no easy answers for Phoenix suns fans.
That quote from,
from Beal right before when he said,
I've never been swept a day in my life.
I'll be danged if that happens now.
And cut to that press conference the next day,
and he's like, well, I'll be.
And had one of the worst elimination games that I've seen.
It was not good.
I do respect him getting fouled out so
technically he did not wind up in like on the court when they were being swept that's true
yeah right took the heroes he got by on a technicality there yeah there's no coach i
got this yeah does the foul. Like, lock size.
He's like, I only got three fouls.
He's like, all right, I'm going to have to deck the ref or something.
Like, I got to get efficient, man.
I got to get off this court.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Whatever.
So, there's more pain there.
Where else were you thinking in the West? Oh your oklahoma city thunders ticket is
burning so i do when we were in vegas on okc to win in the off season we were there for summer
league for summer league because i saw i saw the first chet summer league game and i was like
maybe um and so put 100 on that that would be worth a lot if it came through.
Like millions?
No, no, no.
No, no.
I don't know how much.
$10,000.
Oh, whoa.
No, that's still.
That's no joke.
That's 100x.
That's 100x.
Yeah, because they were.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Underappreciated to say the least.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I don't know.
Like,
I don't think they're top three in the,
like they'd probably be third in the West heading into the second round of
like most third,
most likely behind nuggets.
And I think probably behind Minnesota.
Um,
but that's still,
you know,
stranger things have happened
it's not going to happen but that's
a pretty good bet
it's not happening but
I like that you did that
hey Jasmine you know what
when I said that I did that
in the off season
we had a gambling expert on
and he thanked me for my donation
to the city of
Las Vegas.
Yeah.
He said,
thank you for donating yet to Caesar's palace.
Yes.
And guess what?
Uh,
you walk in,
you're like,
yeah,
it's still not going to win,
but,
uh,
it is looking a lot better than it ever has.
I think there's like a website where you can sell
a ticket like i could i could sell that now but i'm not gonna do that no no it's a fun idea it's
a fun idea fun idea yeah the minute you sell it that's when right you know that's when it happens
that's when yokech murray both go down with injuries and yeah murray gets deported to canada
for some reason like his papers weren't right and you're like what uh ant somehow gets traded to okc like just like huh yeah i don't know we just thought
it'd be cool so yeah let it happen yeah ad just pulled up and asked if he can if he can get in
um yeah i don't know it seems like it's gonna work out but yeah that was uh i mean that that final
game when they got swept as you know again i again, I'm still invested in Brandon Ingram.
And I still like to see when he does well, it makes me feel good inside.
And when he's not doing well, I feel bad.
And that was a terrible performance.
That was the feel bad movie of the playoffs.
Of the playoffs.
If you're a Brandon Ingram fan.
Yeah, that wasn't great.
Yeah.
I mean, now the fans are calling for him and CJ McCollum justallum like just to be like get out be gone that's a little too convenient i know a lot of
fans when their team gets eliminated it's easy to be like and it was these two people and that's it
then that was the whole thing that's my analysis yeah yeah i don't like that i don't like that we
just call for people to right get out and leave when we lose.
As Laker fans, I think it is different because we expect excellence.
But Pelicans, like, stop.
I like how you're like, it's all right when we do it because we don't have time for no foolery.
We expect excellence.
No foolishness.
Yeah.
Well, like right now.
You see how, like, guys.
I mean, it's.
Go ahead.
Y'all can't just be grateful.
Okay.
I'm tripping.
It's different.
There's levels to this.
There's levels to this.
I'm only upset, though, too, because now every Laker fan is calling for my cousin, Rui Hachimura, my fellow black knees person in the league to be out.
And I get that last play didn't look great, but a lot of things didn't look great in that last play. And I think it's a little too convenient to just be like, oh, and look get he did that last play didn't look great but a lot of things didn't look great in
that last play and i think it's a little too convenient to just be like oh and look he was
he left us wanting more that whole series but but again it's it's it's bigger than that but i get it
too everybody sees that like and that's why it was just that part there do you remember this is like
going off on a tangent and i apologize or you're welcome steve bartman with
the cubs and how everybody thinks that that's why they lost the game but it was actually like
the pitcher carrie was like not doing what he should have done the shortstop missed an easy
catch yeah and that's how i feel with rui like yes it was bad but everything in totality was right yeah so exactly i'm very glad that you
said that yeah no exactly i mean like come at moises alu you know what i mean that's who you're
supposed to come at not steve fartman passionate that he had that ball and he did not yeah he was
a horrible fielder he was doing like silent film acting about how easily he could have caught it and like
pointing at steve bartman like it's glove but not for him he stole it the guy is this guy
all right chapman settle down yeah buster keaton chaplain not chapman oh yeah that's fine too
charlie yeah charlie chapman yeah i know charlie rex chapman We know what he was saying. Charlie Chapman? Charlie Rex Chapman?
Elsewhere in the West,
Clippers, they're tied up
two and two.
That series is the most fun series we got
going, I think.
I hate to admit it.
It depends on who you ask.
It was painful to see just paul george and james
hard and just like ice that game out at the end and i was like jason kid please put some rim
protection in there james hard is just going in just floating it up like it's nothing how many
how many are you gonna allow please i can't watch this right now it's nice to have a great coach in the in the playoffs
like tylo it's just yeah that tylo's a good coach and i i don't think jason kidd's like that good a
coach so there's always going to be those moments in the in the playoffs where it's just like oh
right we coach it coaching advantages do matter uh Yeah. That was nice.
Can't relate.
No clue what that was.
Now I'm like, we should have Ty Lue because he played for us.
That's how it should work. You should never be able to work for someone else.
Look, I said I made my peace, but it's just I have a peaceful exterior.
It's right there.
It's at the surface.
I get it.
I mean, look, as much as I know this has become a de facto Lakers and Sixers podcast,
but it's just, it's one of those things,
or even when you feel like,
we were never going to win anyway,
there's still this sickness that all Laker fans have
where they're like, we could win this year.
And we might be able to, and we probably should.
Until reality sets in and you're like,
I was wrong, but I can't help it i don't say this
in front of everybody but i really thought i was like hmm something tells me lakers in six
i i had it in my mind and i'm like am i delusional and i asked everybody and they're like
hell yes but i really thought like looking if everybody was like doing what
they should have done right i'm trying not to blame d-low that's what i was really trying to
write right then but i yeah maybe i'm just delusional i really thought we would have made
it more of a series see that was the part is like i wanted to dabble in that like the comfort of laker fan delusion
but part of you is like if this if i crashed out on it it would be way too painful i was like you
know what i can't even put that bet down because i'm just my body can't cash that check emotionally
um yeah so we shall see what happens there but yeah jack you were saying you thought maybe you
cursed kawaii by by praising him too much.
All right, we don't need to bring this up again.
Miles.
We were both like, maybe that OKC
New Orleans series could get tight.
It takes Jasmine heading into
the playoffs where
people are forgetting
that the Heat
were this good, were this bad
heading into the playoffs last year okay uh
so watch out for jimmy buckets to turn things up again uh i don't know how you're falling asleep
in the exact same way and then like minutes after we published it was like jimmy butler's out for
the entire series uh right and then i was like oh
yeah well one more thing uh kawaii leonard people forget um last year when he was kind of injured
played in the playoffs and when he played was the best player in the nba uh so look for that to
happen again and he played fairly injured and looked like he was trying to spite me for making
that prediction uh yeah it was it was not it was not pretty so yeah i'm not wrong about many things
as people know as listeners know i rarely miss but when i do when i do, I'll blame someone else.
Yeah, there you go.
Like a true champion.
Screw you, Kawhi.
Oh, man.
Yeah, it's tough.
I just, I don't know.
But they have looked great without him.
So it's going to be interesting to see where it goes from here.
Yeah.
Because I can't imagine the we're better without Kawhi trend keeps up.
Which is wild to say.
One thing that people
keep being shocked that James Harden
is having good games in the playoffs,
he had some
incredible games in the Sixers Celtics
series last year.
He just didn't have them consistently
enough for them to win the series.
But he had
a couple games where people were like,
James Harden's good in the playoffs now.
And it feels like that just got memory
hold. Right. As did...
I think it's because of the disappointment of that Celtics
series that people just completely
wrote him off. It's like, but when it
matters. When it matters.
It doesn't work. Was he good
in game seven no no we all
remember that there's no the last that's the last memory that's the one you might remember
i'm just saying like we are not in the elimination game yet so i wouldn't be like right hardin has
turned a new corner because he turned that corner last year he just didn't do it in the elimination
game so let's let's keep our powder dry on the James Harden is is now playoff James um yeah you
know we'll see yeah yeah exactly uh all right let's take a break we'll come back and we'll
look at the other side of the league the Eastern Conference It'll take about three minutes. Yeah, I know. After this.
I'm Keri Champion, and this
is Season 4 of Naked Sports,
where we live at the intersection of sports
and culture. Up first,
I explore the making of a rivalry.
Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel
Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People
are talking about women's basketball just because
of one single game.
Every great player needs a foil.
I ain't really hear them.
Why is that?
I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on.
From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports.
Angel Reese is a joy to watch.
She is unapologetically black.
I love her.
What exactly ignited this fire?
Why has it been so good for the game?
And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained?
This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better.
This new season will cover all things sports and culture.

iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you stream podcasts
and we're back the eastern conference playoffs though seems like a mostly it's wild like
everyone talks about how tough the west was it was like so tough to like you know what we have nearly three or near what two out of the three series that are already over
were sweeps you know what i mean yeah and that just shows you like how just powerful some of
these teams are it's a little bit tighter although it feels a celtic seat i think that's a bit of a
foregone conclusion at this point so it looks like you're to win that one. The big news in the Eastern Conference is Porzingis
has something going on
with his calf. He's out at least
several games, which is
a very broad...
That's an SAT question.
What does at least several
mean?
That's
a huge game changer. I think he's one of
the more important players for their success.
Um, he like kind of the big difference maker that made them took them from what they were
last year to being, you know, one of the best regular season teams ever.
Um, and you know, give them the, the size and rim protection that they need to like
be a real threat to win the title this year.
We'll see.
I mean, I think there's still a real threat to win the title this year. We'll see. I think there's still a real threat to win the title
this year without him. It seems like
it's not as bad as I think
everybody was fearing when he
first walked off and put his
hands on top of his head.
Whenever an athlete limps off
and pulls their jersey to cover their face
and puts their hands on their head,
that's the universal symbol for
I've done it.
I think I cooked it. Turkey's done.
So, yeah.
At least several, I feel seems a bit euphemistic
based on that physical reaction.
Yeah, who knows? Who knows?
Pacers are looking like they're going to win that one
with the badly
injury-depleted
Milwaukee Bucks.
I mean, as a neutral, I'm really
disappointed because I would
have liked to have seen
at least 30%
healthy Bucks. They seem
decimated by injury. I want to see
everybody at full health and especially
them where there is so much build up
and having Damian
together I think captured a lot of people's
imagination. It would have been fun.
I am anybody but the Celtics
as far as
my preferences.
They probably had the best chance
in the East of challenging
the Celtics.
I'm definitely
not happy about how this is shaping up.
Credit to the Pacers, though.
They've, look, you got lucky there.
You're completely falling apart.
It's funny, too, because after that first game, the Pacers were like, don't worry, man.
They got Doc Rivers.
We're going to be okay.
We're going to be okay.
Did they say that? I saw it on their fans' Twitters.
They were just being like, don't worry.
Oh, they're Pacers fans.
Yeah, not the players. No, yeah. The fans
were just like, don't worry. The universe
always delivers. There are certain
laws of gravity. We did have Pacers
fan Megan Gailey on
and she said
that it was after the
Pacers went down 0-1.
She said that she felt like Dame
had cursed Halliburton for doing the Dame
time gesture in the,
I think it was the in season tournament.
And that seemed to have broken the curse.
Uh,
we do believe in curses here.
Very dumb basketball podcast.
We don't believe in analytics.
We believe in curses.
No,
and couldn't tell you what all those weird numbers mean,
but I know a curse when I see one that broke the curse and now he he's rolling uh they seem to be doing
pretty well yeah because i was looking at stuff i was like what do you mean yokich is uh with
ts or travis scott i saw some number of usually 77 travis scott's or something whatever don't
matter uh can you please not mention the in-season tournament without mentioning who won yeah yeah yeah uh yeah karen bass came through and was like guys at least we got one
so we're half a champion she said uh tough season at least we won the in-season tournament
karen bass please fade into the background We do not need to hear from our mayor
right now. Not right now,
Mayor Bass.
Yeah, and then the Cavs
magic, right now
before the game five
happens, they're tied up 2-2
and I remember
the beginning like, I don't know.
Yeah, they were down up too, but I was like,
Orlando's defense is
is one of the better weapons i've seen like in the postseason and they they took it to them in
the second two games so orlando cleveland and uh clippers mavs i feel like are the two uh
round one series that we can kind of count on being there for us as
everyone else is learning. I haven't watched
a second of
either of these teams in the regular season.
So I'm like, I'm really
just here for vibes this time.
And it's, the last couple
games have not disappointed. Well, the
scores have, but now I'm like, this is
a series, and I'm hoping somebody goes
to seven.
It's possible. the magic aren't good on the road so but like if they
want to survive they're gonna have to get something in Cleveland but I did but that's what the post
season's for for people to rise to the occasion or fall flat on their faces like the Lakers did
or fall flat on their faces like the Lakers do.
I really hadn't seen Suggs since Gonzaga.
The last time I saw him, I was like,
he's like an offensive powerhouse.
Watching him in the playoffs,
just ripping people at half court,
I was like, he's a totally different player and really fun.
And then Isaacs is really fun.
I don't know. They're cool, man. I don don't think they're gonna beat anyone in the second round but uh they're they're
a lot of fun yep um jack i can't believe do you got nothing else to say about the sixers
do you just want to gloss right over that you're like yeah nicks are probably gonna win well i mean
where the game has started like as we're recording this the sixes are down three one the game the elimination game has started and
i don't know it's yeah the like they have not been able to win the close ones and yeah that's
mb seems too slow to rebound seems to be the problem. And so there's just a lot of problems
on the offensive boards due to his injury.
And it's just like a truly cursed career
for this man in Philadelphia.
Just seeing that shot of him that they're saying like,
yo, he's got a mild case of Bell's palsy,
like a form of like facial paralysis.
And I was like.
Yeah, half his face is paralyzed for some reason.
I could not.
I was like, yo, this guy is doing everything right now.
He's like, I got half a leg.
My face is paralyzed.
And he still, I still made that shot.
I was like, hey.
He put up, like everybody's talking uh him being historically bad in the playoffs
he does seem to have historical bad luck in the playoffs um he did put up 50 in game three um
despite that one of the strangest just performances uh in a in a basketball like seemed
for the first half it was like is he alright? Is everything okay with him?
He seems like he's going through things
emotionally and then he ended up
having 50 and the Sixers won
the game.
I think the Knicks
are too quick for them.
Things aren't
with him being injured.
It's a liability for the Sixers
so they are up 10-2
right now
I always sound defeated even when they're
if they were up 3-1 this is how I would sound
this is just what it is
to be a Sixers fan
we were doing this all season we're like
Jack look at them they're putting a little run together
you're like I don't know it doesn't matter
I'm like come on tap into the dilute every it's funny every time we have philly
fans on like blake wexler too everyone has like the same thing it's like i don't know man like
i'll believe it when i see it but but i will watch and maybe go on sad life and meanwhile we're over
here on the other end of the spectrum just like like, yeah, Lakers championship next year.
We're both on the same school
bus going off a cliff, but it's like that
meme where someone's looking out one side of the bus
and the other person looking out the other side of the bus.
But we're on the same bus.
It's just like the Lakers fans are like, wow,
banners!
We are not on the same
bus, by the way. You guys have 18
titles. We have 18 titles.
We have a couple,
we've had an MVP or near MVP for the past, you know,
four years.
And every year the,
the playoffs are a disaster.
So due to like thing,
it like doesn't make sense.
Like,
I mean,
I guess it makes sense because he's seven foot two and,
you know,
has just like a
massive body and like you know that but it's every he'll have a great year and then like things just
start to fall apart right at the postseason um just i mean it's a long season it is it's too
long yeah but like this year you know he took some time off. I guess he was badly injured. Anyways, none of this makes sense.
It's been a fun ride as a Sixers fan,
and I am no longer a Sixers fan.
Thank you.
Oh, okay.
That's been my time.
You sound like Elon Musk on that Tesla shareholders call.
He's like, actually, we don't make cars.
We actually have AI robotics coming,
so it's not an L at all.
I'm now just a fan of the great game of basketball.
Thank you. Ah, yes.
You have transcended.
You have transcended.
Well, speaking of transcended, I think it's time we start a new tradition here on the show.
It's time to give a quick eulogy to the teams we have lost to the postseason.
Cue the church music, please.
cue the church music, please.
Dearly beloved,
we are gathered here today to lay several teams down to rest this week.
And although they each fought valiantly,
we're going to need the Pelicans to step up first.
Please, please, please approach the lectern, please.
I think they're in a better place now
than they were when they were getting swept
a couple nights ago.
The most depressing detail as we were going through the eulogy notes.
They won 49 games in the regular season this year.
That is the third most in franchise history.
And it didn't even feel like that good a season for them.
Right, right.
They still only have
two playoff wins since
the 2017-2018 season.
Is this how you're supposed to eulogize someone
at their funeral is just saying depressing
about them?
It's a little bit.
I guess maybe we'll call it a post-mortem.
Yeah, okay.
We wish Zion the best of health
moving forward and
you know happy trails
to Brandon Ingram I guess
absolutely
to the Pelicans you know now you have
time to tour the beaches of Galveston
Texas or go to Faraday
Louisiana it's all
fun and games
Phoenix Suns fans
we're talking to you next.
And there was plenty of evidence
that a manufactured super team
would rarely work.
We honestly, we can't fault you for trying,
for having a dream.
Look, I was there.
I thought Gary Payton and Carl Malone.
Anyways, let's forget it.
Anyway, I'm just saying we can't fault you for trying.
We can't fault you for trying.
I did really believe.
I really believed that they might be able to do something
because of how good the Nets looked four years ago.
That was the logic that I was clinging to.
I remember, yeah.
Remember when the Nets had Kyrie and KD?
But it was peak KD.
So that was the difference anyways the the rumor mill is already a buzz surrounding uh multiple stars uh head coach frank vogel
uh the team in general we wish you safe trails to casa grande and now my my Laker fans, our time has come yet again, as Denver has done it to us again.
I don't think AD, look, you may have played a career high in games, and LeBron in his most games since 2018,
only for the team to not perform to expectations and have immediate rumors about his future in la following
the season but at least this ride has been fun and completely fear free of anxiety or angst i'm not
it was full of anxiety and actually what am i kidding look the nuggets seem to have been our
alpha and our omega we started the season playing them they pieced us up. Then, when we were unveiling Kobe Bryant's statue,
we played y'all, you pieced us up.
Then,
the night LeBron James became the
first player to reach 40,000 points,
you pieced us up.
And now,
we meet again as you
nuggets lay us to rest
and we ride off into
North Hollywood
relaxation.
Thank you so much. Alright, we're
going to take a quick break, and we're going to be right
back with the fourth quarter, right after this.
Wow, you're really crying.
That's incredible. These are courage tears,
man, because I'm so courageous, bro.
I'm Carrie Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture.
Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese.
I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game.
Every great player needs a foil.
I ain't really near them boys.

Do you ever wonder where your favorite foods come from?
Like what's the history behind bacon-wrapped hot dogs?
Hi, I'm Eva Longoria.
Hi, I'm Maite Gomez-Rejon.
Our podcast, Hungry for History, is back.
Season two. Season two.
Are we recording? Are we good?
Oh, we push record, right?
And this season, we're taking an even bigger bite
out of the most delicious food and its history.
Saying that the most popular cocktail is the margarita,
followed by the mojito from Cuba,
and the piña colada from Puerto Rico.
So all of these...
We have, we think, Latin culture.
There's a mention of blood sausage in Homer's Odyssey
that dates back to the 9th century B.C.
B.C.?
I didn't realize how old the hot dog was. Listen to

So we're back. And it's time for the fourth quarter it's time so we are back yeah rapid
fire round of questioning jasmine l walkins you're in the hot seat you've done this before
this is the fastest question answer segment in all podcasting history we're going to give you
a question you just chest pass it right back quick reflexively don't be you know giving quality
in-depth answers.
Just give us like reflexive answers, you know?
And if you take too long, we're going to be rude to you.
But I just want to warn you.
Perfect.
We will be rude.
Perfect.
Here we go.
Brian, start the clock.
Oh, wow.
This is Bill Marno.
Bill Marno.
My favorite show.
Have you seen him?
He has some of the funniest
takes on
just the stuff. I just keep
saying to myself, can he
say that? This guy's got something.
Should you go first,
Jack, or should I go first? I would love to go
first, Miles. Thank you for asking.
You're very welcome. Jasmine,
you could have any player's skill set for a day,
but it has to be a
non-basketball skill who are you picking and what skill oh like rajon rondo's like roller skating
ability or something rajon rondo's roller skating uh steph curry's golf swing one of the ways
yeah wayman tisdale's base oh oh wait wait wait wait who played saxophone somebody plays a really mean
that was bill clinton he was the president
no i get i get i always think bill clinton was in the nba too no uh i want to say i want to say
david robinson david robinson somebody played Pond for Maxie Johnson.
And I think it was like a... Oh, David Robinson did play.
Yeah.
There we go.
Wow.
Wow.
We got to go in the vault for that one.
Hold on.
Here it is.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Look at Magic. He's got a tear in his eye. like he just watched the lakers play or something anyway that's beautiful that's a beautiful answer are you a musician though no but you why yeah okay
that makes sense that makes sense okay jasmine we've got a time machine but it's a laker specific
time machine and you can go back in time
to see any of these moments I'm about to give you
choose one
Magic's game winner, Baby Skyhook in game 4
at the Garden in 87
Game 7
2010
you know what time it is
and also the Lakers title game
in the bubble versus the Heat
those are your three options.
Where are you taking the time machine?
2010.
Yeah.
Easy.
Yep.
Yep.
Yeah.
It's still chasing that feeling, I got to tell you.
It's still chasing that feeling.
It's still chasing that feeling.
Okay.
Next.
Over the Celtics.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because, I mean, look, they gave it to us and we said to say, okay,
let me regroup real quick.
I think we got something for you.
We got something for you.
We did.
Unfortunately, you do have COVID antibodies
and you're able to spread COVID back in 2010.
So time traveling there was the wrong answer.
You've started the pandemic 10 years early.
Messed up.
Did you imagine?
That's the thing about time travel.
We should have mentioned that.
These are trick questions. I know.
It's my own fault. Alright, more likely to happen
and why Pacers
Eastern Conference Final run or
Clippers Western Conference Finals run?
Pacers.
I think
Halliburton. They got the
Caitlin Clark magic around them.
And I don't think the world is ready to see
or we're not
ready for Halliburton's outfits
to leave us. So he can't be out.
We need a few more games.
And I will never pick Clippers no matter what.
Right. That makes sense.
That makes sense.
Who are they playing second round? Pacers? playing the celtic second round or are they playing the knicks
oh they are playing knicks knicks all right yeah i can see that i can see that assuming
you know the sixers don't come back right yeah no let. Right. Yeah, no. Wow. I tried to bait him.
Did you see him? You're right.
Crazy and assume that.
He is dead inside. It's fine.
His eyes did the bone thugs thing again.
Yeah, yeah.
Went black.
He's like, where am I?
In this version, his Uncle Charles was
Barkley when he played on the Sixers.
I miss my uncle Charles.
Jasmine, I want to show you some fantastic 90s throwback jerseys.
Pick your top three from these coveted
iconic basketball jersey designs
from the 90s.
I'm going to go Hornets.
Okay.
Larry Johnson.
Larry Johnson era.
Pinstripes.
Teal pinstripes.
Great pick.
Yeah.
This is tough.
I'm gonna go Magic.
I'm trying not to be all pinstripey, but.
Wow.
Yeah.
Again, iconic.
The pinstripe.
Yeah.
Shack era.
Bright royal blue with pinstripes i i would say bulls but
i'm not gonna go three pinstripes i'm gonna go sixers just because that was a golden era of
sixers jerseys that is a great sixers jersey iverson era basketball swooshing by there's
something going on with the eye i forget what it's got a star on it got a star that's also that made me very sad because
i'm thinking about like sixers now no shade like t-wolves now all the jerseys suck jerseys aren't
aren't the best yeah not the best i don't get timberwolves from from whatever they got on now
it's too clean like right about that kg ruggedness yeah exactly like i want to i want to picture
stefan in that thing like yeah it's it
well it's funny too because like the best jerseys like every year are when they're like we're
bringing that one back from the 90s you're like yes you know what i mean like i got like i got
the grizz i got a grizzlies jersey because they they did the vancouver one like oh because i oh
i had to because at the time i was also a big sharif abdur rahim fan too it was kind of
nostalgic for me uh but anyway look see jasmine we got to keep this going jack do you have a
question another question yeah our final question what is the one moment or game from nba history
that you wish twitter had been around for, pre-2000 and whatever year.
2006.
Just for the discourse, I know it's
an easy one, but I would go
finals, jazz,
bulls, Jordan,
push off, diddy, didney.
Just because
I would want to see everybody
dissect that play
into oblivion.
And we'd be getting the flu game conspiracy theories right away.
It was pizza, but yeah.
You see?
It's so much drama around that.
Oh, my goodness.
Jordan's not the GOAT.
That would have also been the big...
Jordan's not the GOAT.
Could you imagine some clowns just saying that with their whole chest?
You're like, yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Well, you know what?
I'm going to save this tweet for 20 years.
Exactly.
It's Bob Cousy.
It's Bob Cousy.
Always was.
George Michael.
Close second.
Bobby getting unfair shade.
He was good.
And I just feel like everybody's on him
because he is not as good as the generations coming after him obviously yeah yeah yeah yeah
yeah yeah just like the footage of him dribbling around like it looks like he had just invented
dribbling like 15 seconds before that clip he's like look at what I can do with the ball
yeah spinning spinning around that always shows you like why when we started this show it's always about
the game is always evolving
forward and getting better and better
and better and that's where we start and look at where
we're at now with the kind of stuff we see
Ant do and everybody
anyway it's good times
it's good times for the neutral and
I now declare myself a neutral
I can't wait to be a neutral in t minus
an hour and a half just come to the light now come to the light now uh jasmine walkins thank
you so much for joining us i'm austin jack i'm at boosties where do people find you follow you
support you celebrate you oh support me on twitter at jasmine l walkins um you could also tip me if you want to buy me
lunch i'm just kidding no one does that um and yeah don't follow me anywhere else i'm actually
good there you go yeah honestly i mean this is you it's a must follow if you are interested in
anything basketball and humorous and just genuine fun it's got to be jasmine's account please i try
to keep it lighthearted yeah but it's but it's fun yeah it's just like it's but it's got to be jasmine's account please i try to keep it lighthearted yeah but
it's but it's fun yeah it's just like it's but it's the kind of it's what we need it's what i
need to be honest um right now sending you a virtual hug miles yeah in this that and was the
dude awful coaching that dude on youtube who screams like breaks down all the place I'm like
yep yep
if Sam
Kennison was a Lakers fan
that's been very cathartic

next episode as we have now
fully transitioned to neutrality.
Full neutrality? neutrality who are you
gonna be rooting for once once we're both fully neutral oh man you know I
didn't hear you know it is I'm about to get my New York New York New York mix
no I'm going Minnesota full full in the tank for Minnesota and obviously okay see
so that's gonna be tough I mean at point, you know what it is. It's just we're united in it being anyone but the Celtics.
Anyone but the Celtics.
Anyone but the Celtics.
No, anyone but the Celtics.
We don't want the Celtics anymore.
Don't let them hang another banner anymore.
So that's it from Delusional Laker Fan Town Thank you so much for listening to us
We'll be back next week
Bye-bye
