Thank you so much for that.
A.K.A.
Mine was courtesy of Peter DeReed.
Peter D-E-W-R-E-E-D-E.
Good thing we spelled that out.
Yeah, because that is not how I would...
I don't know how to pronounce that at all.
But I do know how to pronounce our guest's name.
He is a hilarious comedian, former cracked columnist, and podcast host of the Unpopular Opinion podcast.
He is Mr. Adam Todd Brown.
Yay!
Hey!
Hey, thanks for having me.
I appreciate it.
Hey, Breezy.
What's going on, man?
Not much.
What is something that you have searched in the not-too-distant past that is revealing
about who you are as a human being?
Oh, I didn't catch the, that reveals who you are as a human being, so I picked Sandy Hook
crime scene photos.
I think that's perfect.
Tell me a little about that.
Why are you looking into that?
Because I was looking into Sandy Hook conspiracy theories.
And one of the big sticking points people have with, oh, this is a hoax,
is why didn't we see the crime scene photos?
And sure enough, there aren't any out there online but if you think back
to any major tragedy like that how many really graphic crime scene photos stick out in your head
exactly bro we don't have a ton of right crime scene photos from columbine we don't have crime
scene like we don't have pictures of dead bodies from 9-11 they're not gonna just take pictures of
dead kids and upload them to the internet.
Unless it was like a conspiracy theorist types.
Well, it was on like rotten.com.
I remember you used to have like weird fake shit like that.
Yeah.
Like this is, you know, this is from the inside of what it is.
Tupac's autopsy photo or whatever.
I think that was it.
Well, that's dark.
What's something you think is underrated?
Something I think is underrated.
Cargo pants. Wow. I feel think is underrated. Cargo pants.
Wow.
I feel like.
Just as a fashion statement.
I feel like.
I know you're wearing jeans with cargo pockets on the side.
I'm not.
Jargo's.
I wish I was.
Jargo's.
I wish society had not turned against cargo pants.
I 100% agree.
They're wildly functional.
It feels like a cop outout to Big Purse.
Like, they're just trying to get
us to start carrying bags.
When cargo pants should just be
our go-to. And it's funny because back when
cargo pants were around, they were functional.
And as pants got tighter,
it's just apparent that I'm carrying all these things in my
pockets. In the cargo pant era, you didn't
know I had three ounces on me.
You know what I mean? You didn't have i had three ounces on me right yeah i mean yeah
i got anything yeah now i gotta look like i'm wearing a diaper right i'm going through the
airport uncalled for yeah what is something you think is overrated uh let's go with space
space outer space outer space not like nothing personal space is dope right but outer space
i don't i don't trust us to get there without me blowing up and dying in a really spectacular way.
Like when we get to space tourism stuff.
I'm definitely not getting there in an official government capacity.
Did that new Falcon Heavy test get you thinking about that?
That SpaceX launch that's happening today?
The SpaceX launch that we could all see from our balconies?
Right.
Yeah, that was uncomfortable.
What I didn't like about it is I kind of thought that's what it was, but if you looked at the
trail of smoke, it looked like it went off course.
Yeah.
And I was like, oh, where's that going to land?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The funniest part was just like that first 10 minutes when people were just trying to
figure it out.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was crazy looking.
That's not Falcon Heavy.
No, that was another SpaceX launch.
SpaceX, yeah. crazy looking well this that's not falcon falcon heavy no that was another space excellence space
access today is the the the massive the largest rocket in the world that they're testing yeah
oh good largest rocket since we last went to the moon i believe uh and yeah it's just elon musk
being a modern day hp barnum like he's just he's good at publicity he's good at getting his name in people's minds
h.p barnum hewlett packard barnum yeah h.p barnum uh the famous computer designer uh what was his
name p.t barnum uh yeah oh that's right it's not h.p barnum interesting plug uh shout out to our
new sponsor hewlett packard uh but like it's funny they were interviewing today and he was like you
know i feel like in our lifetime we will have a lunar base and we will have a city on mars
and he said it so arrogantly that i was like dude shut the fuck up yeah yeah it's not up to you
not really buying it anymore yeah apparently on board uh the falcon heavy such a a name that is is doing too much work uh but he has his cherry red tesla like roadster that he is putting on
the spacecraft into orbit around mars with uh the astronaut dummy in the passenger right and
space oddity playing on loop um so yeah just the alien species that like comes and finds our civilization, like years and years after we've all killed each other is just going to be like, these people are so fucking stupid.
They'll see that and they're like, they'll know we all had small dicks.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So this is kind of the first piece of space marketing, the first billboard anyone's putting up in space.
Just sending up fucking garbage into space.
Be like, look at this.
Kind of feel like that flag we put on the moon was the first advertising we put on space.
Yeah, that's true.
We're the ones you should be afraid of.
Yeah.
That was pretty effective, actually.
Or destroy first.
If it was even real.
Am I right?
We got two hours to talk about that?
Thank you, my man.
Talk that shit.
I'm just saying, why wasn't it waving?
Why was it waving?
Why was it waving?
Why was it waving?
There's wind on anyway.
Stanley Kubrick.
Right.
Let's try Kubrick.
All right.
So we're trying to take a sample of what people are thinking and talking about right now,
today.
And the way we like to open up is by asking our guests, what is a myth?
What's something that people believe to be true that is not?
California is a liberal state.
I think San Francisco and Los Angeles are liberal and the rest of California is a total crapshoot.
Right.
Could be really progressive, could be a former and still KKK stronghold.
You just never know.
Right.
California, according to, there was a 2016 Southern Poverty Law Center study.
California has the most active hate groups in the nation.
I think 79.
Holy shit. Yeah, when that map, there was like an interactive map that they had
and I was like, whoa!
Looky here. And what's crazy is a lot of
them are based in LA. Yeah, in
Orange County. Yeah, there's a ton. Yeah.
Especially Orange County.
Yeah, LA, Sacramento,
San Francisco, all those areas have
hate groups. A lot of hate groups, yeah.
Like just your standard
neo-Nazi type hate groups?
Neo-Nazi groups.
I mean, it also gets into what you call a hate group.
There's also a lot of what the Southern Poverty Law Center calls hate groups are like black separatist groups.
Right, yeah.
Oh, interesting.
Then it kind of gets into what's not like...
It's not like PETA or like California, aggressively Californian shit.
No.
Yeah, there was a Nazi bunker in Santa Monica for a long time.
It was designed to be the Nazi base of operation if they won the war.
And as soon as World War II ended, we immediately tore it down 70 years later yeah there's other
remnants of it yeah it's like yeah there's still some of it's still there it's called murphy's
ranch right yeah i've walked out to it actually there's like a hiking trail you can take out to
it and i've gone out to pay my respect to no just because it's a nice hike. But yeah, L.A., there is weird stuff like that.
And Adam, I wanted to open up.
So you were the first person who I listened to who said that Donald Trump was going to get elected.
You said this very early on in the Republican primaries.
early on in the Republican primaries, you went well, everybody else was, you know, being like,
well, we'll see when it gets to, you know, those later states. And then we'll see. I think it was even before the primaries. It was I wrote the first article saying he was probably going to win
in October 2015. And yeah, I just I had had a feeling, it just felt like people weren't taking
it seriously enough while at the same time, a lot of people were taking it very, very seriously.
Right. And it just, it's, you know, it doesn't matter what candidate they put up, you have to
take it like a, it's like a trap game in sports. You're like, ah, we can beat that team.
They end up getting blown out.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I mean, at the time that you were taking him seriously, yes, there were a lot of people
in the middle of the country taking him seriously.
But the mainstream culture was, for the most part, just sort of dismissing those people.
Yeah.
was for the most part just sort of dismissing those people.
Yeah, there's a really famous video now of – I think it was George Stephanopoulos interviewing Keith Ellison,
who's a Democratic politician from Minnesota.
And Keith Ellison said the same thing.
He said, you know, we should take this seriously because Trump could win.
And oh, does George Stephanopoulos laugh.
Right, right. Just laughs and laughs and laughs.
And then as soon as Trump won, that video came back and there's all these people slowing
it down and auto-tuning it.
Yeah, it was a really common thing.
John Oliver went on Colbert at one point and Colbert asked him about Trump and he was like,
I'm not taking that seriously.
It's like, we should.
We probably set up.
But he totally stopped the Trump movement in his tracks with that drunk stuff.
That was awesome.
We got him there.
We got him there, guys.
So I wanted to ask you, what is do you have any predictions, things you think we're not aware that we should be taking seriously right now that uh maybe we should be well i have a whole idea of where our next three wars are going to happen or at least
our next three military interventions trump has a long history of when people bring up human rights
he's just like whatever we abuse human rights too right so then whenever trump's the trump
administration comes out and uh is concerned about rights, it's always a red flag. And the first the three places where they've talked about human rights. Well, besides Iran, the three places they've talked about being concerned about human rights are Venezuela, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
And Rex Tillerson used to be the CEO of Exxon in Venezuela at a time when they nationalized all their oil
and basically took that company from him.
He went to court and sued and got a settlement
that wasn't what he was looking for.
And he's had a grudge ever since.
Now he's our Secretary of State.
Yeah, right.
And around April of last year,
these stories started coming out about Trump being concerned about human rights in Venezuela.
And I'm like, oh, yeah, well, we're going to go to war in Venezuela pretty soon.
And sure enough, just this last week, Rex Tillerson, he's kind of floating the idea that, hey, maybe a coup will happen in Venezuela.
Maybe the military will back it.
Venezuela and maybe the military will back it.
And once any representative of the U.S. government starts talking that way, it's bad times for that country.
We're either going to go in or someone's going to go in and we're going to give them a lot of support.
Yeah.
And I think it's all tied to natural resources and oil.
Right.
I mean, I know that Venezuela has a lot of oil, right? That was sort of the whole issue is that Hugo Chavez nationalized their oil and we didn't like that because they sold us a lot of oil.
Yeah, I get the sense they knew they had more oil than we realized before we knew it. Right.
Because we didn't find out until 2014 that they have actually the biggest reserves of oil in the world, even more than any country in the Middle East.
Oh, wow.
Hashtag oil boys.
Yeah.
And in 2015, not long after we found that out, Obama all of a sudden issued this executive order calling them an enemy of the state.
And basically what that means is any country that does trade deals with us cannot trade with Venezuela.
And what it did is it blocked Japan from doing this big gold deal with Venezuela that would have bailed their economy out.
But once we put that executive order in place, Japan couldn't do anything.
So we've been kind of waging – if you look in – it would take an hour to go through it all.
But if you look into it, we've been kind of waging economic war with Venezuela for almost three years now.
And it's been pretty devastating.
I mean, back at Cracked, we had this section, the personal experience section of the site, where we would just interview people with interesting or extreme life experiences.
of the craziest stories we ever heard were from people in Venezuela who, like there was a guy who it had gotten so bad and hunger had gotten so bad, like all the grocery store shelves were just
barren. And he was having to fight off looters with a crossbow because he had a mango tree in his
yard and they were all coming for the mangoes. And that was the only way he was feeding his family.
Yeah.
It's inflation is the thing we hear about all the time.
And it's like,
it's been a long time since we've had really high inflation in this country.
So it's hard to wrap your head around.
But in Venezuela,
inflation got so bad that basically if you were making the equivalent of a
hundred thousand dollars in the United States overnight, you were making like equivalent of $100,000 in the United States,
overnight you were making like $10,000 a year.
Your money just became worthless overnight.
And it's not our fault, but the things Venezuela did that made it happen,
we've kind of seized on and are exacerbating it to, I think, go in and put a government in place
that's a little more friendly to our needs.
I mean, because the human rights abuses that we hear about are North Korea and Iran, right?
And those are the places-
That was in the State of the Union.
Right.
That was in the State of the Union.
Those are the places that get all the attention as, you know, that watch out, America's going to go to war there.
And you're saying that these three other countries are also quietly being...
There's a CNN article, if you just search Nikki Haley, Trump, South Sudan, and you'll find this opinion piece she wrote for CNN, which is weird because that's like their boogeyman, basically.
That's where all fake news emanates from.
Right.
But Nikki Haley was writing this opinion piece about why we need to go to South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo and fix these human rights abuses.
And if you look, you can actually pull up a list of conflicts happening in Africa right now.
And yes, those places, there are bad things happening, but they're way, way, way down the list in terms of countries that need humanitarian help.
Right.
But what they are both are they're both really resource rich countries that China is working with to set up a basically set up their own oil market that would not be backed by the US dollar as all oil markets are right now.
And it would basically cut us out of the foreign oil market, which would destroy our economy.
And even like it's such a high level thing.
They can't like the government's never going to come out and go, OK, here's why we need
to go to war in South Sudan.
Right.
Like people are just gonna be like, shut up.
We don't need that oil.
Right.
But we kind of do.
Right.
Right.
It depends on what kind of lifestyle you want to have in the United States.
Right.
And sometimes I feel like Trump is just the best way to sell these crazy military excursions we're going to have to go on.
Because then you can just be like, he's crazy.
We don't know what he's doing.
Right. But with someone like Hillary Clinton in place, it'd be like, he's crazy. We don't know what he's doing. Right.
But with someone like Hillary Clinton in place, it'd be like, well, no, she's not crazy.
We have to explain that a little more.
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
I mean, isn't it possible that some of these military campaigns will just happen without us noticing?
Like, I feel like a lot of.
Oh, for sure.
You know, military action was happening in Africa that we didn't know about until a handful of troops were killed over there.
And then people were like, oh, look at that.
Oh, in Africa?
Yeah.
I think a lot of people were like, whoa, why are we in Africa, though?
Right.
It's interesting to see, like, before all of our meddling in South America previously was to, like, curb communism.
Yeah.
And now it's like, well, now we got to get the jump on china so they're not fucking up the whole right oil futures and shit so it's it's interesting to
see this whole the pattern play out with sort of the same same sort of tactics and things like that
right now with just different stakes yeah it almost feels like an alien invasion kind of thing
where they don't want to tell us right that's what we're fine because if we lose it's going to be a
whole different country right if we lose that economic because if we lose it's going to be a whole different country
right if we lose that economic standing in the world it's going to be a radically different
place to live and i don't know if americans are ready to hear that yeah right like i'd rather hear
there was an asteroid coming then i might not be able to afford a blu-ray player if a new one comes
out next right i yeah no just kill me now yeah exactly right away yeah if you told me i'd like the the number one at mcdonald's would now be 78 dollars
yeah it's not a world i want to live in uh all right we are going to take a quick break we'll
be right back with more Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist

And we're back.
So the stock market plunged yesterday,
went down, lost all of its gains from the past year,
all those days of everybody high-fiving.
I know Miles and super producer Anna Hosnia and I were just high-fiving around the office,
being like, another record day for the stock market.
And took a huge tumble, lost all of the gains that it had made over the past year yesterday.
Then this morning there was another big sell-off and then it came back and I guess it's sort of stabilizing.
But first piece of very bad news in the stock markets.
Well, it's weird because like initially, right, yesterday they were like, oh oh can you believe trump was touting all these economic gains as the market was crashing
like will he own this one or won't he and they're like this is what happens when you always point to
the stock market you live by the stock market you die by the stock market and then immediately they
be like well this is normal though and this isn't bad so it's like what the fuck are you saying like
are you trying to pit them with like some kind of a negative piece? Or are you also trying to calm people to know that this is actually like it's sort of normalizing itself?
Right.
I mean, it's tricky because he has been pointing to the stock market as evidence that, you know, Main Street people in middle America are doing well and that he is, you know.
Yeah, who are trading in all those oil futures.
Right.
Exactly.
well and that he has, you know.
Yeah, who are trading in all those oil futures.
Right, exactly.
And I think the point that people are making is that, you know, the stock market is not the economy.
And so.
You know, it's funny.
This might be the first place that said that out loud.
Because if you watch all the news coverage, it's not like they're not really drawing that
line.
They're getting very technical and it's sort of.
There is an entire channel that is just devoted to people interpreting complete chaos and randomness like i think it's the msnbc cnbc cnbc
it's just non-stop just them being like uh and now we're seeing a downturn and that's clearly
because of uh these jobs numbers that just came out pork futures pork futures uh it's it's basically like the weather channel except they
believe that they can explain like if the weather channel was like and that is because uh donald
trump is angry we have a storm in the plains uh it's just completely uh applying you know logic
to randomness but uh so you know like we saying, the economy is not the stock market and vice versa.
People are speculating that part of the reason that the stock market is starting to go down
is because the economy is doing so well.
Yeah, I heard it's basically a correction that investors call for when the
economy is going in one direction or the other for too long.
Right.
So it almost kind of makes Trump look good, but he's just too dumb to know how to put
it into words.
Well, what's funny – it's funny because even on the alt-right, because they fundamentally
don't understand it, Alex Jones was saying this was a false flag attack by the banks.
Oh my god.
Fundamentally don't understand it.
Alex Jones was saying this was a false flag attack by the.
Oh, my God.
It's wild how everybody yesterday was just trying to spin each other's version of whatever side of the media was how to spin it.
But, yeah, like that was the funniest shit.
I think he's forgotten what false flag means.
Yeah, no, exactly. We talked last week about the comment section in The Hill being just like crazy.
It's a cesspool.
Cesspool of right-wing anti-Obama, just horrifying, anti-Michelle Obama rhetoric.
And one of the things that I saw in there were people pointing out that U.S. average wages for workers
were actually going up for the first time in a decade.
And that's actually true.
They're seeing gains that are keeping pace with inflation in the average wages of employees,
which is great news for American workers.
But people think that might be why the stock market is going down is because the stock
market is not showing how well American
people are doing. It's showing how well the people at the very top of corporations are doing.
And if U.S. wages are going up, that gives the employees, the human capital, more leverage,
which means worse things for the bottom line of companies.
So having higher wages for workers is actually bad for the stock market.
So that's, I don't know.
I think that kind of puts things in perspective.
Because it isn't something like 1% controls 40% of the stock market in this country.
Yeah.
There was a really fundamental shift in this country when we started destroying labor unions because before that, CEOs were beholden to investors but also beholden to their employees.
And once employees lost that bargaining power that labor unions provided, it turned into more and more CEOs were beholden to investors, and that's it.
And you can kind of trace that around the early 80s when we started destroying labor unions.
That's when wages stopped going up to the point that even if they're going up now,
what happened this week is what's going to happen.
Right.
They'll just adjust the stock market accordingly.
And if you manage to make enough money to save it and put it away in the stock market,
it's going to be gone.
Good time to be just getting by in life.
Bitcoin is also going down and people are speculating that, you know, this might be
the quick fall of the cryptocurrency market.
There's just hold on, baby.
Just hold on to all you
cryptocurrency investors out there.
Right.
All I know is I just want to make sure
that Ghostface Killa's cryptocurrency,
Cream Capital,
like cash rules everything around me,
Capital...
Cream, get the money, dollar, dollar.
Is that a real thing?
Yeah, that's a real thing.
Oh, my God.
Oh, you thought he was joking
the whole time when he was saying that?
I love Ghostface Killa so much.
I know, he's the best. Who do you think found him? Was that Shkreli? Yeah, exactly's a real thing. Oh, my God. Oh, you thought he was joking the whole time when he was saying that? I love Ghostface Killa so much. I know. He's the best.
Who do you think found him?
Was that Shkreli?
Yeah, exactly.
I think Shkreli was like, hey, my man.
He definitely lost that feud with Shkreli.
Maybe he had to be the face of Cream Corn.
That's what I thought it was, Cream Coin.
But that sounds too much like Creamed Corn.
And so they had to go with Cream Capital.
But good naming decision because we know this face
yeah ghost face hates creamed corn right so problematic for him um i disagree with him on
that i love cream corn yeah and we could have a whole other podcast about that as well we should
actually that's what this podcast is about now um but we wanted to talk about some people who made a bunch of money off of cryptocurrency and went down to Puerto Rico.
It's basically like if somebody wrote a satire of late stage capitalism, like they couldn't do any better than this.
And then there's like one guy in his 50s, all like decided they were going to take all their earnings off of cryptocurrency. And like they have, you know, billions of dollars of cryptocurrency, some of them.
And they're moving the money from the Caymans, which is what you use as a tax shelter before.
They're moving it over to Puerto Rico.
They're moving it over to Puerto Rico. grid um by the way 40 still don't have power in puerto rico uh i love laughing at that um but uh so these guys have decided they're going to create a uh a crypto utopia where it's like
this society that's run by this guy. His name is Brock Pierce.
He's sort of the leader.
Of course his name is Brock.
Of the Portopia movement.
Former child actor
who has been sued for fraud
multiple times.
Clearly a con man.
But let's listen to the description
of these guys
because this New York Times reporter
went down there.
So the leader of the Portopia movement emerged brock pierce wearing drop crotch capri pants a black
vest that almost hit his knees and a large black felt hat uh the uh there's other guys uh one guy's
wearing two-tone aviators and another another guy is wearing a smartphone on a necklace.
So they're just like –
What are fucking two-tone aviators?
The ones that like gradient.
There's like a gradient?
Yeah.
Oh, wow.
So he's in the CIA.
Yeah.
Right.
He's a spook for sure.
And he's got a cell phone necklace?
Cell phone.
Yeah, a smartphone on a necklace.
I like how they simultaneously straddle nerdy dad with like out-oftouch dude who just went to a hip store to buy clothes or something.
Yeah, it's just they're transported from Silicon Valley.
But they say things like, we're benevolent capitalists building a benevolent economy.
Mr. Pierce got into digital money early as a professional gamer, mining and trading gold in the video game World of Warcraft, an effort funded partly by Steve Bannon.
Steve Bannon!
Yay!
And he's a controversial figure.
Like I said, he has been sued for fraud, among other things.
Oh, also, I just had to pull up his acting career.
He played young Gordon Bombay in The Mighty Ducks.
Oh, shit.
So just think
about that damn he was also luke davenport in first kid is that the one with simbad i don't
know we have yep it is that's what i remember simbad is like secret service agent anyway that's
a whole other thing luke davenport is he is he the first kid i wonder president davenport your
son is out of hand yeah he is he is. He is? He is.
He's the main kid.
So the kid from First Kid.
The First Kid.
Of course he's got government connections.
So here's a quote from them.
He said he is aiming to create a charitable token called One with $1 billion of his own money.
And now I want you to get ready to have your fucking mind blown, you guys. So this is...
It's called One.
One.
Okay.
Now he says...
Like you won something or owe any?
No, owe any.
Okay.
And he says,
if you take the my out of money,
you're left with one.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Don't be that way, Brock.
And if you look at one,
it means you're on e
then somebody about him immediately he's tuned into a higher calling said kai nygaard scion of
the canadian clothing company nygaard and a crypto investor quote he's beyond money
dude is this a fucking christopher guest mockumentary it's amazing
that guy's starting a cult for sure oh no they've they've taken over a like abandoned hotel and
they're all living in a hotel that like was just a building that happened to not be touched by
the hurricane so of course you want to put the somehow they got that currency invested while people are
living in fucking shanties and shit exactly uh out of here now this is maybe maybe the most
telling quote uh next we hear from a gentleman named halsey minor uh who is that a is like a
gamer tag for xbox he's the founder of the news site cnet which is a very useful website, and he is moving his new blockchain company
VideoCoin from the Cayman Islands to Puerto Rico this winter.
He says, referring to what's happened here, he says, what's happened here is a perfect
storm.
Referring to Hurricane Maria and the investment interest that has followed, he added, while
it was really bad for the people of Puerto Rico,
in the long term, it's a godsend if people look past that.
Man, perfect storm is such an awful phrase to use in that context.
Yeah.
Wow.
Bad for the people of Puerto Rico, but when you think about it,
cryptocurrency is really what matters. Just look past the humanity of it all.
Yeah.
And think about the sick-ass video coin, baby.
Right.
Yeah.
Katrina was bad,
but we'll have so many casinos there someday.
Man, Cryptopia.
I thought it was a place for crypts to hang out.
I didn't realize this is what they were going with.
Yeah, Cryptopia would be.
We're in Cryptopia.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Los Angeles.
We have an update from yesterday's show. Dodge was not pleased about that video we played the audio from where somebody replaced the Martin Luther King speech from their ad with the actual Martin Luther King speech where he talked about how America is being overtaken by advertisers and charlatans who are making people think that they need this truck or this car to make them better than their neighbor.
Dodge was shocked that people had a negative response to their ad because, of course, they are.
They're completely tone deaf.
And immediately made YouTube take down that video where people replaced it with the actual audio.
But it still lives on Twitter.
The last bastion of freedom.
The House Intel Committee finally voted to release the Democratic rebuttal to the memo,
and now it's in President Trump's hands.
So he'll do the right
thing yeah he'll crumple it for sure throw it in the toilet he's gonna eat it right um i i don't
know what the response could be for anyone who is was for the release of the republican memo
right what they could possibly be saying about why they shouldn't release a democratic memo
about the exact same thing if they're for transparency but we will find out what their deal of a pickle here right um but miles you wanted to
update us on uh some of your heroes from your childhood yeah uh the jackass guys you know
because uh there's an article that came out a few days ago about just checking in with them
and you know our parents were right.
If you keep acting like them, you're going to fuck your body up and be in really bad shape.
And it's like really pretty sad.
Like Danger Aaron, remember him?
He always – he had to drink pee and do stuff like that.
He's had like so many surgeries, like nine knee surgeries.
He broke his back like three times.
He's like, I am not doing well.
And he's like – in the article, he was like saying, I want to remind people that you only get one body, so don't ruin it.
And then you talk about like Rob himself, who was one of my favorite people on Jackass.
I didn't realize he –
Rob himself was his name?
Chris Robb is his name.
But he was called – I'm sorry.
I'm using everyone's like Jackass name.
There's Aaron McGee and things like that.
But I'm talking about Robb, Chris Robb, Robb himself.
like Aaron McGee and like things like that.
But I'm talking about Rob,
Chris,
Rob,
Rob himself.
He was like,
he had to leave the show. Cause he slowly got addicted to painkillers from the injuries he was
sustaining and like drinking with that.
And it was just exacerbating it.
And apparently like he'd look at everyone else.
Cause other people were hurt on the show and also taking painkillers.
Like he was like,
well,
what about him?
And like,
he just,
he got his life kind of spun out of control.
He pretty much like lost a lot of his money and had to like get sober.
And then he was like working as a waiter and was talking about how like people were recognizing like dude what
the fuck are you doing here yeah and he was just sort of like he went through some dark periods
and bam is still struggling with alcoholism uh so it's just like a it's sad because man i fucking
loved those like cky videos and like jackass i was just one of these young ass kids thinking like
this was fucking hilarious right and then now you're kind of seeing like the fallout of it it's it's pretty uh it's
it's it's sad it's ryan dunn uh yeah he died yeah in a drink drunk driving accident he killed his
passenger like 120 miles per hour yeah and that kind of kicked off bam's downfall right um and
so it's sad just how like sort of connected there and like almost everyone had
been arrested like even preston preston lacy really do all those bits with we man like he
got caught with a bunch of weed and like we man had to get his shit together and obviously steve-o
had his problems but it's like it's hard to think of anybody who really got out of there
and like is playing with a full deck still right they're like a bunch of former nfl players
basically yeah they're all gonna be using canes to walk by the time they're like a bunch of former nfl players basically yeah they're all
going to be using canes to walk by the time they're in their 50s yeah yeah it really reminded
me of like professional wrestlers like what you hear about them yeah because they were just putting
they were stunting with their bodies for you know the spectacle of it all and now they're sort of
living through the reality check of that our bodies are not temporary or not you know invincible
yeah and even and it's let slipping note about Johnny Knoxville.
Knoxville has been – he's had trouble too.
Like everybody – I mean Knoxville I think outwardly has the most opportunities
like after Jackass, but he also has his own issues too.
And he wouldn't even like give him a quote for the story.
And then there's like Steve-O who's kind of pulled through his issues,
but now he's just so obnoxious.
Like if he's anything – he's like Steve-O who's kind of pulled through his issues, but now he's just so obnoxious. He's like this – he did this documentary about recovering from drugs on MTV.
And at one point he goes into a Starbucks and orders a coffee and the woman goes, do you want whipped cream?
And he goes, no, I'm a nitrous addict.
It's like, just say no.
Just what are you doing?
She doesn't need to know that.
Yeah.
But he had some surgery and like thugged it out without any medication.
So good for you to take that seriously.
Like when you know you're struggling with addiction, like, you know, I mean, he's a
good example for people to understand.
Like he's trying to do his best.
Just leave your baristas alone.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You can answer a yes or no question with a yes or no.
Just leave your baristas alone.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You can answer a yes or no question with a yes or no. And also people who are struggling from drug abuse or drug addiction.
You don't have to go completely drug-free during surgeries if you do want to recover.
Don't let that be a reason that you tell yourself not to quit because you want to be able to have painkillers during surgery or anesthesia.
You can still have anesthesia during surgery.
Do a lot of people like try and demand that?
It depends.
There are definitely like threads of the recovery community that are like all about, you know,
nothing that affects us from the neck up and, you know.
So he had no drugs?
from the neck up.
And, you know.
So he had no drugs?
I think it was something like afterwards.
Oh.
That he just was like, no.
Because they at least have to.
We'll tell you, you know, as long as you're using it under medical supervision.
Yeah.
We're not giving you an open-ended prescription to the painkiller.
Here, take off with this maraca full of 80 pills i like to picture him turning down anesthesia
so they just put him in a shopping cart push him into a wall to knock him unconscious they just do
yes fucking civil war battlefield surgery it's like bite down on this dowel right all right we
will take a quick break and we'll be right back Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist
who on October 16, 2017, was murdered.
There are crooks everywhere you look now.
The situation is desperate.

All you need to do is record everything like you always do.
One session.
24 hours.
BPM 110.
120.
She's terrified.
Should we wake her up?
Absolutely not.
What was that?
You didn't figure it out?
I think I need to hear you say it.
That was live audio of a woman's nightmare.
This machine is approved and everything?
You're allowed to be doing this?
We passed the review board a year ago.
We're not hurting people.
There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing.
They're just dreams.

I got swept up in Kabir's journey, but this was only the beginning.
In a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron,
and the consequences for everyone involved.
You mix homesteading with guns and church,
and a little bit of the spice of conspiracy theories that we liked.
Voila! You got straight away.
I felt like I was living in North Korea, but worse, if that we liked. Voila! You got straight away. I felt like I was living in

of avocado, mariachi,
delicious cuisine,
and of course, lucha libre.

Mexican than this. Lucha libre is. It doesn't get more Mexican than this.

And we are thrilled to be joined by super producer Anna Hosnier.
She is the co-host of the newest show that we're releasing.
So our little HowStuffWorks comedy network out here on the West Coast.
We have released two shows thus far.
West Coast!
You're listening to The Daily Zeitgeist, which is our first flagship show. And then we released Culture Kings, which is hosted by Carl Tartt, Edgar Montplaisir,
and Jacquees Neal, three of your favorite guests from the Daily Zeitgeist, where they chop it up and talk about pop culture and rap and the NBA and just all sorts of things.
That's been having a lot of success.
Every episode is better than the last.
I highly suggest you check it out.
And we are thrilled to be announcing the launch of our second spinoff show,
which isn't really a spinoff show because it already existed,
Ethnically Ambiguous, hosted by Anna Hosnia.
It's so refreshing to have some women in the conversation.
Yeah.
It took a lot of convincing.
We were like, I don't know about...
Yeah.
I've actually blackmailed Jack into giving me this show.
Right.
I'm like, once you get a woman talking, you know, then it's like...
The entire podcast is us just shrieking.
You just slid a DVD onto his desk that said, Compromat.
So you know you're on the How Stuff Works Network.
But this is a show Anna's been doing for a few months now that I loved and that we brought over to our network.
How do we describe ethnically ambiguous?
Let the people know.
How do we describe ethnically ambiguous?
Let the people know It's a show that me and my co-host
Shireen, who is Syrian
And I, who I am, Iranian
You are? That's how you say that
Who I am, Iranian
And we talk about
Growing up brown in America with immigrant parents
And we talk about Middle Eastern news
That's never talked about in mainstream media
Just like stuff you won't hear
On the daily
um so come to my podcast and listen to that if you want to hear about you know saudi arabia
you know iran and north korea like adam was saying those are the places they look at human
rights violations and then the countries that bring money into america are never looked at
like saudi arabia for sure and then all of a sudden you're like, but wait.
No, those are different though.
Yeah, exactly.
Exactly.
Hey, come on, man. That's my homie, man.
That's how they're rationalizing that over here in D.C.
Yeah, I saw you hanging out with those crown princes the other day.
Hey, my man.
They know how to drive Mercedes, man.
You're doing that like skating on the street.
Yeah.
Where you just like hang outside of the car.
My homie had the two-wheel motion with the knife out the door straight to hollywood boulevard looking like the mia video but yeah one
of my favorite things about the show uh other than anna's winning personality is that uh it
provides context for a lot of the stories like you know i pay attention to the news but i always
felt like i lacked context for a lot of the stories that are taking place in the Middle East.
You know, and I think just for a lot of people in the West, they hear stories about the Middle East and they just think of movies.
And it's just like a giant war zone of, you know, sand and prayer calls and whatever homeland shows to establish something is taking place in another country.
It's basically just all insurgents running around.
Right, exactly.
Like throwing grenades.
And you're like, there's kids there?
Right.
Oh.
And just listening to like a handful of episodes of your show, I feel like I totally, I can
like hear the news and like understand, like put it in context more than I ever have been
able to.
So that's sort of a byproduct of listening.
And you won't feel like you're like,
you know, doing homework while you're listening.
Yeah, no, because we don't take
the most serious approach to it.
No, lucky but loose and fancy free.
Yeah.
But like you told the story of an Iranian politician
who was sort of overthrown by the-
His former prime minister, Mohammad Mossadegh. Yeah. He was overthrown by the former prime minister, Mohammed Mossadegh.
Yeah.
He was overthrown by a coup after he nationalized the oil in Iran.
So they wouldn't share it with the British or America.
And then the British came and old Churchill.
Right.
Got up in Eisenhower's ear and said,
if we don't get this guy out of here,
he'll turn into a Soviet communist,
which is a stretch.
Enter Kermit Roosevelt. Boom. That's when the coup happened. Got Mossadegh out of here, he'll turn into a Soviet communist, which is a stretch. Enter Kermit Roosevelt.
And boom, that's when the coup happened, got Mossadegh out of there.
But this is a guy who was trying to take the oil industry in Iran and share the spoils with the people of Iran.
Right.
He was about the people.
Right.
And that was not cool to other countries.
England was like, how about us?
And this is where BP comes from, right?
Yes.
Back then it was called something else, which I can't think of off the top of my head.
Right.
But it was basically a going concern of Iranian oil.
Without going in and overthrowing this guy who was trying to share the oil wealth with the people of Iran, there would be no BP today.
Right.
So actually, BP used to be called the Anglo-Persian Oil Company.
What are you going to do?
Hey, rebranding is very powerful.
And after they destroyed Iran, they were like, and now we are BP, the British Petroleum.
Now we are BRB. Yeah, so this gave me a much more context for, you know, the eventual, you know, what happened in Iran.
You guys have told some stories about Syria.
You've told some stories about Palestine that totally put those countries in more context than uh gal gadot wonder woman herself talked about
gal gadot's um support of the idf what is the idf israeli defense forces which is israel's very
aggressive army she's a problematic lady yeah gal gadot yes a great feminist icon yet doesn't seem
to realize that you can't just support certain group of women and ignore a whole other group of women because of their ethnic origin.
She's also got a weird, like a friend of hers was assaulted or raped by someone in Gal Gadot.
It was like, pfft.
Was she like, well, you should have left.
Don't say anything.
Yeah, it was kind of like that.
There's a lot of victim blaming.
She deaded it?
Yeah.
Oof.
Well, what are you going to do?
And then you guys also talk about your experiences and, like you said, what it's like growing up around.
Yes, we talk about personal experiences, what it was like to be raised by our crazy immigrant parents.
Right.
Good times.
We talk about that. I think a lot of people who have immigrant parents
are going to identify.
My wife's parents are immigrants from Korea,
but I know that she's able to identify with stories
that you guys have about how mental health is treated
by parents who are
immigrants mental health is not a thing not treated no yeah they just say not give you
everything stop complaining and you're like okay it's like why are you being weak yeah are those
tears have you lost your goddamn mind it's like yeah yeah i have you choose to be happy yeah have
you tried that if you have nice things and your your parents worked for years to give it to you and walk 10 miles in snow to get to school to get to where they are today, then you have no right to be depressed.
Right.
That's how it goes.
Yeah.
It can be inconvenient.
That's like my mom's story about growing up in post-World War II Japan when I want to turn the air conditioner on.
I'm telling you, yeah, because I came on the show and it's just fun.
Yeah. It's a great time
yeah it's and yeah it's true like it's the other thing like you're saying Jack is even
you know when you have immigrant parents it really doesn't matter where you come from because
right there's all this similar feeling of oh we have things we're bringing from other countries
into this one and trying to reconcile that with trying to fit in and how our parents do things and
what's expected and yeah yeah it's got to check the show out hilarious thing where they they came to america to give
you the dream and then they get so upset when you become americanized right they're just like
how could you be so americanized and you're right i don't know what you want for me
we lost a daughter today she had a scrunchie in her hair. Yeah. So it's a good time. Yeah. One of my favorite episodes is you guys talking about how you would try and do normal American
– like nail polish and things like that and hide that from your parents and – yeah.
I used to always have my hands in my pockets around my dad so he wouldn't see that I was
wearing nail polish.
Right.
Because that would be a big deal.
He just thought you were shady.
Yeah. Okay. Well, cool. Right. Because that would be a big deal. He just thought you were shady. Yeah.
Okay.
Well, cool.
Well, awesome.
Well, the segment in general, we wanted to call it You're Not Alone because I feel like when you're growing up with immigrant parents and you're just surrounded by kids who have American parents, you feel like, wow, I literally am such a weirdo.
I'm so different.
My parents don't get it.
No one gets me.
And you try
so hard to fit in and it's like oh no we're all these kids with immigrant parents are experiencing
the same thing yeah we're all struggling to you know not take our shoes off in people's homes
when you're like no no no i have to take my shoes off if i come to your home or me immediately
cleaning if i spill something like i did this weekend at jack superbowl part of both things
that happened at my house this weekend.
Yeah.
We just made Miles
clean the whole time.
Miles was on his hands
and he's scrubbing.
But I like it.
You've been gaslighted.
I could ask my mother
inside,
oh my nanny,
I've been there.
Like is what I would hear.
I would have to start cleaning.
Well,
so where can people find ethnically
ambiguous you can find us on the how stuff work network how stuff work network how stuff works

Miles is going to play us off on a song that he was playing in the office today.
Yeah.
That is super dope.
You know, because Rex Tillerson, he's going to have to cruise around Latin America and, you know, get familiar.
This is a song by a producer named Sango, who's like a dope producer.
song uh by a producer named sango who's like a dope beat producer uh he has a whole album called otra vez which is like him taking sort of latin styles uh from countries such as even colombia
uh mexico brazil and turning them into trap beats so this one is uh this is the bogota trap beat
called patras and uh this is sango and this is dope he's just uh trap He's just trappifying the music. And enjoy it.
Bob to it.
And we are going to ride out on that.
We will be back tomorrow because it is a daily podcast.
Talk to you guys then. Thank you. We'll be right back. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Defne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist who on October 16th, 2017, was assassinated.
