All you need to do is record everything like you always do. What was that? That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. Can Kay trust her sister or is history repeating itself? Starting point is 00:02:15 And you didn't even have to go to a resort in the Dominican. Oh my god. I love our listeners. I love our show, but man, it makes me so happy to not have to do it. I'm just so, yeah. Thanks, Dad. Okay. Hey, you know what?
Starting point is 00:02:31 Gotta tell you something. I love you kids, honestly, but fuck me if I didn't tell you how happy I was that I didn't have to be around you. Holy shit. Freaks me out. But no, I mean, it's good. We gotta take, this is how how we this is the only way to have the show go we're always sick for this episode the last episode yeah we're always this
Starting point is 00:02:52 is the first time i'm not like audibly sick just like a little bit like spiritually just in spirit yeah and you are you're you are sick so i have yeah i got a little something going on um this won't be the last episode we release, I don't think. No, for the year. But it's the last one we're recording. And we thought we'd be straight with you. You're our friends. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:12 So we're going to just tell you the damned truth. So this episode, the premise is year in review in review. Yep. We're going to look at all the years in review from around the wide internet and and just you know it's a pan for me i'll tell you that much 2022 in general is a pan for me and then why did they make all these years in review about this subject matter just leave it wait it's about a pan that's a pan yeah what does that mean like a bad review oh oh okay okay got it yeah That's a pan. Yeah. What does that mean? Like a bad review. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Okay, got it. It's a pan. Yeah, I'm sick. My review of the years in review of 2022 and my review of the year 2022 is it's a pan. Panning it. Straight panned it. Yeah. That's a skip.
Starting point is 00:04:01 2022 is a skip. This is the first time people haven't been excited about the new year i feel like i feel like ending 2020 people like fuck 2020 that was like the whole vibe remember that's right and then it was like we're gonna turn it into 2021 and kovats gonna be gone the one we're like we're gonna get back see we're wise and we're worn down real summer yeah vax boy summer it's where it's happening and that's where i was at i was like i'm single ready to mingle summer 2021 let's go yeah i was then going into 2022 i think people were like you know what we get it we we slipped up a little bit we're just we're just
Starting point is 00:04:40 getting vaccines and shit we're like 2022 I haven't heard anybody say shit about 23. It's like, I guess that's true. I guess. You know what I mean? It's like a bill you have to pay. You're like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:04:54 I know. Honestly, you know what? Fuck 2022. Okay. This is our year. I love that energy. That's so funny that that was a thing for like five years in a row
Starting point is 00:05:06 everyone was like all right and now it's coming this is gonna be our year y'all buckle the fuck up y'all like leaving 2016 they were like well that was 2016 had a weird one but it's like oh yeah trump is the president motherfucker what are you talking about? I forgot how dark those years used to be before we hit a pandemic. Yeah, when we do that on top of it all. Yo, so the Google search trend, I mean, Google search trends, it's not like, I mean, they're just telling us what people search.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Not number 10, being Jeffrey Dahmer. Jeffrey Dahmer. All right, so we can go through the top 10 here real quick. I do just want to say, though, COVID is nowhere to be seen on this list except for the like where do i find which is like all covid so it's just like like the superego of like the zeitgeist and the media is just like yeah we don't talk about that shit uh call it bruno because we don't talk about that shit anymore and like on a day-to-day basis's like, yo, where do I get tested?
Starting point is 00:06:05 Where do I get the, you know, where do I buy masks? Where to anyways, nowhere on this top 10 list. Uh, the number one, shamefully for America in 2022,
Starting point is 00:06:17 the number one search was wordle. The word. Wow. Uh, that apparently everyone was cheating at because that like that's the only reason it's not like you once you know the game exists you don't ever have to google it again unless you want like to go maybe there are things where people are like finding other people to like talk about like what was today's wordle but if you play you don't get the word they tell you
Starting point is 00:06:43 what the word is there's nothing about wordle that you can be googling other than uh wait what's today's wordle yeah what's today exactly that was the number one search trend in the u.s in 2022 is it because like every everybody was like so into like posting their like scores because I know you were steady being like, oh wow, it definitely became a point of pride for a lot of people. Mine makes sense because I am one of the foremost. My streak ended at 228 this
Starting point is 00:07:16 year, but I'm currently 69 under par and many consider me the greatest Wordle player alive. Did you cross the virtual picket line? No, my streak was over by then. I don't believe you at all. My streak was over by then. Oh, I bet it was.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Yeah, okay. He had me downloaded. Stop poking me in the chest. You're such a bully. He got a burner to play when they were striking, I think. Yeah. That was his hack around it. No, I don't even play it anymore.
Starting point is 00:07:43 And my streak came to an end because i just forgot to do it well also now you you play it analog style because you got a board game yeah that's right that was what i got in the white elephant gift exchange for our office was the wordle board game well that was for me yeah that was a grease payment and then you got mine i didn't know what i was doing which i can't believe nobody commented on the fact that mine was a clear JFK assassination reference I got the magic bullet for people oh wow
Starting point is 00:08:11 clearly thinking that it would start a conversation about JFK assassination conspiracy theories well yeah I'm glad you attempted it that way because in the past you would just go ugh like apropos of nothing until somebody said what Jack and you're like
Starting point is 00:08:27 I was just thinking of and then like about the JFK assassination fuck that was it by the way our wish for the new year is for you to never say the words JFK again
Starting point is 00:08:42 even when JFKk jr comes back um yes so i just but this makes sense so this is like a d like the subtext you you can read the text which is that wordle was our number one search or you could read the subtext which is just that america is a nation of cheaters and grifters as we've seen. And this is like, even though crypto wasn't in the top 10, this makes the crypto collapse and the rise and fall of crypto make sense.
Starting point is 00:09:11 That we had a word game that was somewhat popular and the number one search trend, the number one thing people did with the internet was cheat at that. How do you know they were cheating if they were just,
Starting point is 00:09:24 maybe they were just trying to get to the Wordle webpage? It's you just can go there. You just type Wordle into your browser. Yeah, but isn't that automatically a Google? No.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Well, here's the thing. Okay, if you search Wordle. Okay, stop yelling. There's gonna be the New York Times There'll be the New York Times link and then there'll be the new york times there'll be the new york times link and then there'll be the articles that are saying here's today's wordle right right so i think maybe i think with this analogy well i mean how much what's the percentage we want to say people are cheating i guess how many people just have this shit already like in their app or have the app or have it bookmarked is the question versus how many Google. I haven't had to Google Wordle
Starting point is 00:10:06 since the first time I played Wordle and I play it an embarrassing amount. So I don't know. Maybe you're right. Maybe people were just saying, wait, what's that game called again? I think it's definitely possible that it's a combination.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Like it can't be all cheating. It was Googled more than election results. Yeah, which is wild. That repetition. Or people are just dumb as fuck and don't bookmark shit. be all cheating it was google more than election results yeah which is well the rest of the repetition or people are just dumb as fucking don't bookmark shit right and this is like that could be it portal which is i do that too uh but in theory right if you search enough times then it should come up as like an url and it should just take you straight to wordle like if you just type in wordle it should probably pop up and just you know like
Starting point is 00:10:45 because like if i'm on instagram on my laptop i just type in in and then it's like instagram.com and then you click and then right yeah you know look i think i think what we found out is jack cheats at wordle yeah what's happening just hold on no what's what What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:11:05 What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:11:05 What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:11:05 What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:11:06 What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:11:06 What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:11:06 What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:11:10 What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:11:12 What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:11:14 What? What? What? What? of like celebrity death it's always lottery stuff and like some kind of murder or shit so like you have wordle election results and then this year's betty white queen elizabeth bob saget ukraine mega millions powerball numbers and haste jeffrey dahmer 2021 was nba dmx gabby petito kyle rittenhouse brian laundry mega millions amc stock stimulus check, Georgia Senate race, squid game. Wait, NBA was number one? Yeah. That league? A basketball player? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Did people just find out about that? I don't know. I think we were also scratching our heads at that last year. People are googling NBA because they're all cheating. They're all cheating at the NBA. This is a cheating scandal. The other things that popped out to me that don't anywhere else, we're going to cover the critics' top 10 lists and stuff.
Starting point is 00:12:15 The movie that dominated all other movies this year, but came out in 2021, was Encanto. Encanto was the most searched for movie. It was also three of the top 10 most searched for songs and number one and two. Like it had the one, two and 10 spot for the most searched for songs of 2022. Damn.
Starting point is 00:12:38 And if you had kids, you knew this shit. Yeah. And like, of course. It was a tough time for me because so many little kids would turn and be like you're like the encanto girl welcome to my life anna it happened so many times i was like okay damn you know how many times my partner racist ass kids horrible photo he's taken of me and goes you look just like the girl from incanto and i'm like this is a hard time for brunette women of
Starting point is 00:13:07 color with curly hair do you understand what we went through during the incanto hype we don't talk about brunette um yeah i was like all right your children are racist i have to say this to so many parents oh my god hey i have to talk to you your many parents. Oh, my God. Straight up. She's a racist. Hey, I have to talk to you. Your daughter? Yes. She's a racist. Oh.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I'm sorry. Do you work at this Panera Bread? Yeah, I was just saying. Your five-year-old is racist. Okay, thank you. Let's go, honey. Let's go. The Encanto woman is being hostile.
Starting point is 00:13:48 The Encanto woman. You're right. It has to start somewhere all right uh let's take a quick break we'll come back we'll finish out google trends and we'll move on to time magazine's person of the year and other stuff condo woman You're right, honey. He's being hostile. I'm sorry, you're being very hostile. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts
Starting point is 00:14:24 separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that.
Starting point is 00:15:23 I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified.
Starting point is 00:15:39 Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this?
Starting point is 00:15:54 We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence
Starting point is 00:16:11 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It was December 2019 when the story blew up. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, former Packers star Kabir Bajabiamila
Starting point is 00:16:24 caught up in a bizarre situation. KGB explaining what he believes led to the arrest of his friends at a children's Christmas play. A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest. I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. I got swept up in Kabir's journey, but this was only the beginning. In a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron and the consequences for everyone involved. You mix homesteading with guns and church and a little bit of the spice of conspiracy theories that we liked.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Voila! You got straight away. I felt like I was living in North Korea, but worse, if that's possible. Listen to Spiraled on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And shortages was another, I don't know if that was a trend last year like a category of trend but we had baby formula tampon adderall sriracha i didn't know there was a sriracha shortage uh just generally food shortage the lines of food banks stayed long this year uh but that's not something that will generally be covered in mainstream media
Starting point is 00:17:46 news sources. Diesel was trending. It was the number one shortage, which you know, yeah, there was no Fast and Furious movie this year. Wow. Thank you. Because of diesel shortages?
Starting point is 00:18:02 No, because people are missing Vin. Isn't that what I just said? Diesel just said diesel i discovered on a side note i discovered over the holiday that my grandmother is a big fast and furious fan and that made me laugh oh my god that rule that's so great i was at her house and i saw this like stack of like vhs's of like all the Fast and Furious movies. On VHS? Yes, VHS. I was like, Paula, why do you have all these? She's like, oh, because those are my men.
Starting point is 00:18:31 And I was like, oh. Oh, wow. Those are my men. Hell yeah, let them know. I love that. Love that for her. The Rams are a good metaphor for this year. They were one of the top search teams in sports,
Starting point is 00:18:46 presumably from when they won the Super Bowl, and they're currently the worst team in the NFL already. Somehow they just went from first to worst. Love to see it. Did y'all see? So LA had this, the Van Gogh exhibit. Oh, that used to be Amoeba? I mean, in New York, it was huge, too.
Starting point is 00:19:07 There was two of them. It's huge everywhere. They're like everywhere. I feel like it's a conspiracy theory. That's what I keep seeing on TikTok. I saw it because, like, I don't know, but people were taking their kids to see it. So we went and saw it.
Starting point is 00:19:17 It's just like a big, it's like a long YouTube video. Yeah. Yeah. It's a projection. It's just a projection. Yeah, projection. $50? It's like a long YouTube video. Yeah. Yeah. Over. It's a projection. It's just a projection. Yeah. Projection. $50.
Starting point is 00:19:28 It's so wild. No, that shit is not $50. Somebody got so rich this year off of this shit. No, no, no, no. That's. Yes. I'm sorry. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:19:37 Yes. I cannot. That is fucking me up so bad. That fucking dumb ass room with the fucking laser show with van gogh art is 50 fucking i thought that shit was like 15 it's just a laser projection it's and it's it's not like did anybody see it no like i don't want to i don't want to yuck anyone's whatever but like i'm yucking the price for sure yeah the price is yuck. And the caliber, it really feels like something
Starting point is 00:20:07 that an art student could have done in a couple days. It's just like an animation of Van Gogh's painting style. Yeah. It's fine. I think it must be a result of the legalization of weed.
Starting point is 00:20:24 I was there and I was just like, oh, this would be cool if I was high. For sure. must be a result of the legalization of weed because it's... I was there and I was just like, oh, this would be cool if I was high, for sure. This would be way cooler. But 50 bucks? 50 dollars is a lot. So the top exhibits of this year were
Starting point is 00:20:39 Van Gogh, Washington, D.C., Van Gogh, Seattle, Washington, Van Gogh, like just over and over. Raleigh, North Carolina. Boston, Massachusetts. I mean, my mom almost went in Houston. And then like real art from like artists like Basquiat had a thing in New York. Like there was a Basquiat exhibit in New York that came in at number nine behind like five
Starting point is 00:21:02 of these Van Gogh YouTube videos. Wow. Should I hold one? Yeah. Van Gogh YouTube videos should I hold one? yeah oh my god I wonder what's going on this guy who's behind it Massimiliano Sicardi his name is Massimiliano yeah he is like
Starting point is 00:21:22 he studied at the London School of Contemporary Dance of London so he's like this visual artist but he He is, like, a, he studied at the London School of Contemporary Dance of London. So, he's, like, this, like, visual artist. But he also is doing, like, he has an immersive Frida Kahlo show, too. So, is he just, like, slurping up, like, the, like, projecting rights to these artists, which is, like, might be cheaper than another exhibiting license? Oh, for sure. And then just being, like, yo, I turn it up like this i charge them 50 bucks and i has lambo well i think it's like just
Starting point is 00:21:51 the instagramification like people just want to take photos and post totally totally that's what's the genius part and guess what museums boring that's not full of your instagram well it's like the museum of ice cream or like the Museum of Color. Or the Museum of Britney Spears. Remember that one? Oh my god. Yeah. It took over the Amoeba Records in LA. Like that building. But it's also, yeah, it's the perfect
Starting point is 00:22:16 thing for this year because it's basically co-opting the work of real artists to just, you know, like what the AI things are doing. It's just pulling shit from elsewhere and being like, what if meme that you could turn into a meme?
Starting point is 00:22:32 Was it this year that Twitter decided that Frida Kahlo is white? Yes. I think so. I'm not sure it's problematic, but you know. Never forget. Frida Kahlo is white. I do like they have the top scenic spots. So if you thought you were unique taking a picture I'm not saying it's problematic, but we knew that. Rita Collins White. I do like they have the top scenic spots.
Starting point is 00:22:53 So if you thought you were unique taking a picture in Dumbo or Golden Gate Viewpoint or the Bellagio Fountain in Las Vegas or the Statue of Liberty. I think I took one of the Bellagio Fountain this year. Yeah. The most depressing one. So LA makes it on this list with the Beverly Hills sign. Oh, yeah. Of course. Of course.
Starting point is 00:23:10 The Beverly Hills sign. Yes, because people are obsessed with Beverly Hills' boring ass. I know. It's so sad. It was so funny. I was, before the holiday party, you know, because our office is in Hollywood, there was this Australian woman who was on the street, and she was talking to this local dude, and the guy was like, oh, you know, the, cause our offices in Hollywood, there was this Australian woman who was on the street and she was talking to this local dude.
Starting point is 00:23:27 And the guy was like, Oh, you came from Australia, huh? I was like, well, so what'd you think? She's like,
Starting point is 00:23:31 Oh, you thought Hollywood was like old diamonds and nice stuff, but this is like pretty fucked up. Boulevard. And I was like, I was like, it's just so interesting how there's just this, such a narrow depiction of the city where like,
Starting point is 00:23:48 you're literally only seeing, you're seeing this like very unreal part of fucking earth, basically where you're like, yeah, man, I love the palm trees and the Mercedes everywhere. And then you're like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:23:58 yeah, yeah. Uh, everywhere else is pretty normal and has like shit going on. Uh, but anyway, really hillside take a picture with it i was born in the bellagio fountain i was born i don't like that character
Starting point is 00:24:13 vegas bane i'm a i'm a persian californian so i've been going to vegas my whole life yeah life yeah you had a what your mom had a water birth in the bellagio fountain that's an amazing origin story just the trashest most american person is born water birth in the bellagio fountain uh no it's because we used to always go to the bellagio and then when caesar's palace opened up we switched to be caesar palace people uh, I don't know. That's just a little bit of Hosniye history corner. I mean, I prefer Caesar's Palace. Not gonna lie.
Starting point is 00:24:50 My three days in Vegas. Bellagio's over, baby. I snuck into Caesar's Palace and I got free access to the beach. It was nice. Or the pool. Bellagio's over.
Starting point is 00:25:00 It's all about Caesar's Palace. I mean, actually, here's the thing. I think even Caesar's Palace is over and now it's all about the new hip young hotels they have opening up there i don't even know they're all called like no toe or no vote no no no no no hotel and casino and it's fucking tight guys give it a try it's all gold thank you well come on why are we splitting airs well speaking of trump uh time magazine's person of the year was back as always uh it was zielinski sure that's like that makes perfect sense it's
Starting point is 00:25:35 like the mainstream media pick like it remains the number one story on the front page of the new york times um i feel like zielinski is who like americans who read newspapers and magazines want to think defines them like i could be that guy if i had to defend my nation funny late night talk show host who rises to the occasion and leads the world if put to the test um i think it should have been elon musk again though i think i think because so they made it Elon Musk last year for some reason I guess just because he has most money
Starting point is 00:26:09 but this year he is so symptomatic of just American decline and what we're seeing with Kanye and Trump and Elon Musk they're all like it should have been one of those three because of just like the like all of the most famous successful rich people just melting down and like having the
Starting point is 00:26:32 same mental health crisis at the same time is very weird i do think if they have made it kanye though the like america would have flipped its lid you know what i'm saying it's been hitler before yeah i think to your point like zielinski is perfect because he's also like helps sanitize like ridiculous military spending yeah man let's send fucking 40 billion at the fucking drop of a hat there you go uh fucking defense arms manufacturers and then everyone's like oh yeah terrible thing going on over there and it's like that money could well okay fine like let's not ever equate what our spending looks like ever um but yeah yeah i did it everybody wins with him on the cover to be honest yeah yeah cool presidents is not a vibe cool president or what what is he a president
Starting point is 00:27:23 i forget yeah yeah right okay yeah cool president is not the vibe like that should have been a person of the year cool president tim biden you know with that energy of like obama like cool president yeah cool presidents or young cool prime ministers what's this what was trudeau what was his deal he's so hot and then they're like what was his deal like that energy like he's so hot and then they're like you know he's like low-key racist right and then you're like that's low-key that's low-key actually right it was pretty low-key and the costume was good yeah was he the genie in that one yeah that one was fucked up you could do that without the face
Starting point is 00:28:09 paint that's what it would have looked better without the face it would have just been like a hot you know disney aladdin but yeah like a cool a cool president is about as cool as you could look in a cop uniform yeah you know what i mean like okay cool you're break dancing in a cop uniform yeah you're like zielinski being on like letterman's like welcome to my couch or whatever that fucking show is i'm like the fuck first of all you have time to take off to do talk show appearances what are you doing i mean it's all of us but i mean but that's that's all part of managing the optics of this fucking like invasion and being able to justify the spending like he has to go out there so people aren't like fuck it man like let fucking putin crush him and like what's what the fuck is it our problem well oh yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:28:58 you need middle america to be like well i did see him on that letterman show so i think he needs help well when you consider what what's happening on fox right and like tucker carlson just beating the steady drum of like yeah nothing nothing's going on over there we need to completely like just go turn our turn our attention away from that you see that there's like there's stakes for every side playing out in real time from every dimension but for sure yeah again at the end of the day, it helps justify from, especially from the U.S. perspective, a shit ton of defense spending. Right.
Starting point is 00:29:29 That's wild. Like when you see that spend, it's like that, like it always is like U.S. gives whatever billion to Ukraine. It's like, no, we gave that like Northrop Grumman.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Like, what the fuck are you talking about? You know what? I've actually been a better move. Family feud. The Zelensky's versus the Putin's. Yeah. Think about it.vey steve harvey just being like survey gives a look to
Starting point is 00:29:52 the camera i watched so much family feud i watched a lot of family this year those youtube compilations of dumbest answers ever oh my god those can set me through he's the best at responding to a dumb answer that we've ever had if i ever need to pass through like and i'm dying and you guys can't get me to let go play one of those compilations and i'll go through to heaven go happily all right we're gonna take a break and we'll come back with the people who do the best job with like taking their data and turning it into an editorial feature is probably porn hub. So we'll look at their year end list. And then also like the,
Starting point is 00:30:29 the critics lists didn't do a ton for me. Like the, you know, it's the best place to go rather than reading any individual critics, like top 10 lists is just go to Metacritic and get those, but they didn't really add much. I think Pornhub still does a better job of telling you what was hitting in the media.
Starting point is 00:30:47 We'll talk about that. And then Metacritic also had their worst movies of the year list, which was actually pretty informative because there was a bunch of movies that came out that I didn't know about that I want to tell you guys about. We'll be right back. Beeria! This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months.
Starting point is 00:31:23 These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI
Starting point is 00:31:45 in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:32:05 I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session, 24 hours. BPM 110, 120.
Starting point is 00:32:26 She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything?
Starting point is 00:32:41 You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi everyone, it's me, Katie Couric. If you follow me on social media, you know I love to
Starting point is 00:33:10 cook or at least try, especially alongside some of my favorite chefs and foodies like Benny Blanco, Jake Cohen, Lighty Hoyt, Alison Roman, and of course, Ina Garten and Martha Stewart. So I started a free newsletter called Good Taste that comes out every Thursday, and it's serving up recipes that will make your mouth water. Think a candied bacon Bloody Mary, tacos with cabbage slaw, curry cauliflower with almonds and mint, and cherry slab pie with vanilla ice cream to top it all off. I mean, yum. I'm getting hungry. But if you're not sold yet, we also have kitchen tips like a foolproof way to grill the perfect burger and must-have products
Starting point is 00:33:51 like the best cast iron skillet to feel like a chef in your own kitchen. All you need to do is sign up at katiecouric.com slash goodtaste. That's K-A-T-I-E-C-O-U-R-I-C dot com slash goodtaste. I promise your taste buds will be happy you did. And we're back. And all right. And Biria. And Biria. What?
Starting point is 00:34:21 Biria was huge this year, dude. As food, you mean? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Everyone was up in the Biria. What? Birria was huge this year, dude. Like Birria tacos? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Everyone was up in the Birria. Everybody was. A lot of places I shouldn't have been to. Suddenly we're like, we have Birria.
Starting point is 00:34:33 You're like, no, the fuck you don't. Like, I'm scared to eat whatever Birria you think that is. All right. So Pornhub has most searched movies and characters, which I found very interesting, revealing. Harley Quinn at number one. Tracks. Number three was 365 Days. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:53 What fucking costume is that? I don't know. Is it just, I mean. I think they just want scenes from 365 Days. Well, my favorite question was, are they porn actors? Oh, like if they're like professional adult actors yeah maybe i mean to do it right they give when you watch the movie but it's wild when you see that as a search though because it's like you're on porn hub you're but yet you're like
Starting point is 00:35:17 let me see that clip from 365 well i guess it's kind of like what tumblr and twitter you know used to do where it's just like splicing all the sex scenes together, probably. Right. You know, like a compilation of just like they're like, we don't need any of the foreplay of this horrible storyline. I just want to see them fucking. And it's just like. Yeah. Harley Quinn's stepsister.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Right. The stepsister stuff is not as popular on here. They don't have most popular categories, at least on this grouping, but they do have top gaining categories. Reality is number one. Is that reality stars? Are they starting to appear in porn?
Starting point is 00:35:57 I think there are reality stars that are doing... I don't know if it's Pornhub or if they're on OnlyFans right yeah yeah yeah it's meant to just be less studio actors doing like costumey shit like home video
Starting point is 00:36:14 yeah yeah yeah just like real life shit but all these other ones are like I assumed already very popular but scissoring is also the big riser I don't wonder if that has to do with Barbie is that like people get ready for the new Barbie movie
Starting point is 00:36:29 let's just move on let's just move on I don't want to talk to you about this anyways and then I just want to talk about Barbie's having a resurgence in the zeitgeist and that was something that everybody did with their Barbies.
Starting point is 00:36:48 She doesn't show up on the most searched movie characters, movies and characters, but I do love how Elastigirl is separate from the Incredibles. Yeah, and they're both in there. I like that. Happy to see just a happily married couple make it into the list. Elastigirl, the best. There's a lot of
Starting point is 00:37:06 Incredibles out there. The Sonic one I'm worried about. But you know who's actually taking the L? Sonic I am worried about. Sonic I'm a little worried about. But I like that the people who are taking L's right now in terms of seconds viewed, muscular
Starting point is 00:37:22 men. So these are the categories that are the best uh categories viewed the longest first categories viewed the shortest six minutes and 10 seconds for muscular men yeah just just not it anymore i think people's aesthetics people's aesthetics are changing scissoring also very quick i like outdoor it's my fetish yeah well you're outside people people are just like i just want to get yeah they're like i've been cooped up for too long yeah they're like living watching curiously through the people in the porn they're like well i'm not gonna go on a hike but at least if they are fucking on a hike i can live with that thank you that is funny like where does that come
Starting point is 00:38:03 from other than just being like i just it's nice to accomplish two things at the same time yeah yeah sort of thing yeah yeah okay jack come on you gotta get out there it's not it has nothing to do with barbie what now orgy has to have something to do with he-man right i don't even think it's appropriate for you to have uh put this in this doc i put it in there so there you go this is my analysis um all right over at metacritic we got the top 10 lists uh the digest of the top 10 lists where they like give three points the number one like the critics number one movie of the year
Starting point is 00:38:45 and then like one point if it makes the top 10 the music is pretty much what we thought beyonce rosalia kendrick bad bunny wet leg which i think we talked about at one point on the show but yeah they're a fun band uh they had some everybody like shay's long yeah shay's long is a good one and it taught me how to pronounce that word movies every everything everywhere all at once is number one by a lot so that's good although it does make me because that was also i think my number one on air movies episode so i feel bad about that now but elvis though though, huh? The Batman and Elvis both came in the top 30. That's interesting. Whatever, look, I don't...
Starting point is 00:39:30 What the fuck do I know? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think you can't deny the, I guess, the broad appeal of something of just being like an absolute spectacle either. Yeah. And that's what I don't consider cinema.
Starting point is 00:39:43 I mean, it was a fun movie to watch not batman god i'm saying bummer batman was like what if we made a batman movie that wasn't fun to watch that was our idea for the pitch the log line they were like you know how like the ending of that band nirvana was really sad let's make a a Batman movie off of it. Just capture the vibes of the day we found out that there's so much sexual tension here, but it's gonna go nowhere and you're gonna be like
Starting point is 00:40:14 this like sad and disappointed the whole time. Well, yeah, they're like Gen Z's not fucking right and neither is our Gen Z ass Batman in his looks. Oh man. Just something's in the way. That just, the way that became
Starting point is 00:40:30 a meme was so funny though too. Just using that song as like a catch all for being so dark. Remember his little Gen Z glasses, the small little like. Oh yeah, those. I don't actually think they're locs. No, no. Locs are like jail, like these are locs. Wow. Miles would just have some straight locs, but I don't actually think they're locs. No, no. Locs are like jail. These are locs.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Miles would just have some straight locs ready to go. Yeah, locs are because they're like what you get in they only come from prison culture. It's like what Michael Imperioli's character is wearing in White Lotus. Like why? Why is this guy wearing locs?
Starting point is 00:41:01 It's like such a choice. Anyway, and TV was pretty the rehearsal wasn't number one but it was in there um i thought it should have been number one but yeah it was like better call saul and shit like that severance was number two uh but they also released the worst reviewed movies of the year and this was revealing especially because li Liam Neeson released a movie this year called Blacklight. I didn't even know that. I did not know that. That does paint a picture
Starting point is 00:41:31 in my mind that he's running around using a blacklight to solve Jackoff-related crimes. Isn't that where your brain goes? No. No? Alright. Oh my god, someone's watched a lot of Room Raiders. Isn't that what you use blacklights for like in action movies what is a black light for yeah
Starting point is 00:41:52 and any like i guess i mean i used to watch a lot of csi you know back in the day and they used to check that there's blood usually yeah if it's oh blood okay you know yeah yeah yeah like what's luminol you have to you have to spray the luminol for it to react under the black light oh yeah yeah yeah yeah i watched too much dexter and room raiders oh that's true miles had an amazing pitch for a movie that i we can't even share with you it's slightly related we're pitching we're pitching well we're in the process we're taking it out we're taking it out in the new year. We're taking two words.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Should we give him the two word pitch? Nah, nah, nah, nah. Oh, is it two words? Dexter and Lokes? No, no, no, no, no. Kind of. This movie is about Travis Block, a shadowy government agent who specializes in removing operatives whose covers have been blown, uncovers a deadly conspiracy within his own ranks
Starting point is 00:42:44 that has nothing to do with fucking Blacklight. Okay. They just thought that was like a cool name for a movie. Yeah. There was a movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart this year. Yeah. Did you go to that?
Starting point is 00:42:56 You knew that? I didn't watch it, but Zach watched it and I just sort of like would walk in and out of the room. What was it about? It was about like, like, oh shit. What's his name? Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg were like old friends. And then like, I guess Mark Wahlberg got like famous for some, I forget.
Starting point is 00:43:13 But Mark Wahlberg is like that crazy friend who always gets you in trouble. And like, what's his name? Kevin Hart is like a family man now. Yeah. I don't got a problem. You got a problem, bro. Well, it's just be like, he'd be like, come on, man. You need to come hang out with me because you've been so, I don't got a problem. You got a problem, bro. Well, it's just be like, he'd be like, come on, man,
Starting point is 00:43:25 you need to come hang out with me because you've been so, I don't know, caught up, you know, being a father or whatever. And then it's like insanity ensues, you know, they're like the two biggest box office drawers.
Starting point is 00:43:37 And they put it on Netflix together. And then, well, yeah, that's just wild. It like that movie. I remember seeing like an ad for it somewhere but I
Starting point is 00:43:48 didn't know Mark Wahlberg was in it and it basically doesn't exist it exists Naomi McPerrigan's actually in it oh really yeah that's pretty cool that is man alright nevermind completely flew under the radar it got lost in like the Netflix scroll shuffle of it
Starting point is 00:44:04 all and also oh when I look at this like poster of it too it just looks like something on netflix you just kind of be like yeah yeah yeah sure that's on netflix yeah more on that later you know i mean like this isn't necessarily like this movie's got it all folks you're kind of it like i don't know visually it doesn't anyway they appear to be smuggling a giant tortoise somewhere yeah it's that thing where you're like me and my friend oh man he's real crazy he's real wacky he got me into something also the movie poster is bright yellow like the background which is also the case with central intelligence i feel like there's something with kevin hart movies and them making the background yellow they're they like
Starting point is 00:44:45 create these weird rules for different actors and movie posters it's like almost like a superstition um do you guys know who sean payton is he's like the former new orleans saints football coach so he at one point got suspended from the nfl because he was paying his players he was involved in a what they called a bounty hunting scandal where he was paying his players, like hurt other players. And he got suspended for a year and they made a movie about him being suspended for a year and coaching his sixth grade son's youth football team. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:19 Where he's the hero. Yeah. And he's played by Kevin James. Yes. I vaguely remember the movie coming out. Oh wait, Hometown? Home Team. Home Team. Yes. I watched that because I met the family who made it in Rhode Island.
Starting point is 00:45:36 It's made by like a family of boys who've got like 12 kids in the family, right? And so they started this production company. What? Because they have so many children well because they were like so many of them that like they were all like really creative and always making videos and stuff they live in little compton rhode island this is how i met them holy shit and so the reason they got into this is because they started making like
Starting point is 00:46:00 little like twitch videos not twitch what am i am I saying? TikTok video. God, I'm losing it. TikTok videos for Kevin James, like in the pandemic. So he would like hire these like young like filmmakers to make these like YouTube TikTok videos for him. And so basically like through that, he like moved to Rhode Island during the pandemic and like would make these videos with them. And through that, they were able to basically get into like Happy Madison and are now like big time directors for Happy Madison for them. All 12 of them. Well, so there's a production company.
Starting point is 00:46:34 So there's two of the oldest brothers are the directors. But then every single other brother under them has like a role. Like there's an editor. There's like, you know, like one of the one of them was like an extra or like played a role in it. Like it was like they extra or like played a role in it. Like it was like they all have like they all play their part. I went to their production studio. It's really cool.
Starting point is 00:46:50 They have like this thing, this giant warehouse that they turned into like a studio, like office. There's a bar in the basement. They have a sister who's like a really cool artist who has her studio off. Dude, it's a family business. They have it all. They're the homies now. I'm down with them. So I watched the movie.
Starting point is 00:47:08 Was it my favorite movie? Not necessarily. I didn't really understand what was going on, but I was supportive. Okay. The number one worst reviewed movie of the year
Starting point is 00:47:17 was the first sequel to 365 Days. Which one was that? Remember 365? Oh, the horny movie. Yeah, the horny movie 65 days and which one was that remember 365 oh the horny movie the horny movie that went viral during the pandemic that went viral because everyone was horned up during the pandemic two sequels dropped
Starting point is 00:47:35 this year which it seems like that would be pretty hard I get critics being like this stinks but also audience gave it 1.6 out of 10. I feel like audience expectations going into that have to have been pretty low, and they didn't even meet that.
Starting point is 00:47:52 So, that's just a sad where are they now. 365 days of the franchise. It didn't live up to its initial promise. Where are they now? In Poland? It was like 365 is the original movie and then i think it was like after 365 days like the next 365 days and then yeah i don't remember what the second one the
Starting point is 00:48:14 third one was yeah the next three and like the second i think was like this day or something oh that's right it was this day and then it was like after 365 days yeah anyways one of the critics said that the first sequel was like one long team america world police style sex scene if you remember the sex yeah uh wow okay so great with that description now i'm interested yeah me I mean, it's crazy. It is like some of the most intense shit. All right. Well, those are the things that I had. I think we're done. We've landed the plane, folks.
Starting point is 00:48:55 Another one in the books. Yeah. And then we're ready for takeoff in a few more days. But thanks for listening. And we'll be back soon. Do I sound sick? I don't know maybe don't worry about it i'm gonna rush biggest trend of all is my love for you guys so this is uh yeah
Starting point is 00:49:14 this is the last one of this week we're gonna take off on the second and then we'll be back with some prediction-based episodes on the thirdrd and the 4th. Nothing on the 5th, because we're still off. And then back on the 6th. Bye. Bye. Bye. sister in seven years. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. What was that? That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. Can Kay trust her sister or is history repeating itself?
