As the U.S. elections approach,
it can feel like we're angrier
and more divided than ever.
But in a new, hopeful season of my podcast,
I'll share what the science really shows,
that we're surprisingly more united than most people think.
We all know something is wrong in our culture, in our politics, and that we need to do better and that we can do better.

Hello, the internet, and welcome to this very special episode of
Come on down to the Geist is Right.
There's courtesy of Johnny Davis. This is the second time doing this intro because i forgot to hit record uh i can't believe that's the first
time i've done that because i'm a very forgetful dumb human i'm jack o'brien that is miles gray
uh miles how are you this fine thursday? I've never been better, Jack.
Things are sunny in the
San Fernando Valley right now. We are
approaching 91 degrees Fahrenheit.
Wow.
And it has me
actually really messed up emotionally
because I would love to go outside and
enjoy it with many people.
Yes. Yeah, I feel
you. Let's tell the people what's trending get their
mind off of the world beckoning outside their window yeah uh i c p is that what i think it be
yes when you tease your child for wetting their pants i see that's a good joke no it stands for uh the ableist rap group insane clown posse uh they are basically
out here making a lot of waves uh for saying that hey look they we're not gonna miss the gathering
of the juggalos okay but we're also we are going to uh some of our merchandise to help make some protective masks as well.
But they said, first of all, though, we cannot put the juggalos at risk.
And shout out to them for, you know, doing a lot to protect their own people than actually some governors are.
So in a way, you know, I guess Whitmer might be the governor of Michigan, but so might, uh, Shaggy and whatever the other one's name is.
Uh,
more like the impressive clown posse.
Cause I'm impressed.
Wow.
Uh,
no,
who is a shag and violent J I shouldn't know.
Give it to violent J violent J.
Yeah.
And Shaggy too dope.
So yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean,
it's a big,
big moment.
I'm sure like everybody who has a, as a fan of everything, they're finding. Yeah, I mean, it's a big, big moment. I'm sure like everybody who has a fan of everything,
they're finding their annual, you know,
big tentpole event being canceled
unless it happened like up in February or January.
But yeah, like Comic-Con's done.
Gathering of the Juggalos is a wrap.
No Coachella.
I mean, this is what we have to do.
When are we going to stop being surprised
or even announcing when something
is canceled? More than that, Jack, when are
we going to stop
these experts from killing
the economy? Really?
Yeah. That's all I'm reading.
Truly, Miles. That's a lot
of Faygo that's not going to be sold
at that gathering of the Juggalos.
That's not going to do much
for Michigan's economy, I can tell you that much. I've always had a soft spot for the juggalos. That isn't, that's not going to do much for Michigan's economy. I could tell you that much.
I've always had a soft spot for the juggalos just because they were definitely
the target of like one of those middle America,
um,
like straight,
uh,
mainstream culture panics where anybody who committed a crime and listened to the uh insane clown posse like
was seen as they were like see they're a gang they're a violent gang um it was kind of like a
soft satanic panic well i mean the lyrics were pretty dark the lyrics were definitely not oh yeah i mean like there's i like i said i don't
i don't believe in saying clown posse to be a satanic cult but if you were some quote just in
the same way when gangster rap was coming out people just took what the words were and were
like how could someone even say that as a song like how are they talking about this as a song
and like when you talk about about stealing the souls of kids
at the wild carnival of souls,
people are like, oh my goodness, their souls.
Yeah.
But that's part of the fun, right?
They also, Juggalos,
star in one of my favorite Workaholics episodes.
Let's talk about Elizabeth Warren.
Shout out to her and her family.
She lost her older brother,
uh,
to COVID-19,
uh,
this morning.
The,
oh man,
just like her statement this morning.
Yeah.
Just the statement on it.
I mean,
again,
you know,
this,
this illness,
this virus knows no bounds,
no boundaries.
There's,
it can get anybody from the highest to the lowest,
the relatives of presidential candidates. When there was just this part that she had
written in her statement or that was part of her statement, just saying how she just really
was, you know, obviously there wasn't much that can be done, but she felt really terrible that
no family could be around her brother, you know, before he passed away to like, you know, at least like hold his hand or say that he was loved.
And like, when you I mean, yeah, anybody who's lost anyone, you know, like if you're fortunate enough to be able to say goodbyes and things like that, how important or how that can be part of your healing process.
And just to even comfort the person who is going through, you
know, something like this.
But yeah, that was really that was that was tough to read.
Had they tried one of President Trump's economic advisors idea of putting everybody in space
suits or space outfits, as he called them?
Who said that?
Stephen Moore.
Stephen Moore, member of Trump's Economic Task Force,
spoke to the New York Times and said
that he's been advising the president
about how we have to really get things opened.
May 1st, too late.
But maybe the way to do it
is to put people in spacesuits or space outfits.
Wow. No, seriously. be the way to do it is to put people in spacesuits or space outfits no seriously um he said so
does he work for big spacesuit or a big space outfit i'm sure i mean think about all the money
you make off of that spit those outfits he's like honey put all of our stock in space outfits
what company is that i don't know just fucking do it space outfits space what. Just fucking do it. Space outfits. Space? What is that?
Just do it.
The shit the space people wear.
Let's talk about Elijah Wood for some reason.
Yeah.
Again, in this age, especially now,
like we've already,
from the beginnings of this trend show,
whenever we see a name or anyone sees a name,
we go, oh oh goodness what has
happened what tragedy has befallen this trending person uh but it seems okay elijah wood is fine
uh but he apparently made a big splash because jack i'm sure you saw this because you were on
your nintendo switch playing animal crossing with everyone else yep this dude pulled up and he was
just he was just selling turnips, doing whatever.
Slanging turnips.
Just doing his good old thing on Animal Crossing.
Hey, I like to turn up on Animal Crossing on my Switch as well.
Oh, my God.
All right, kids?
Call the police.
Here, I'm going to go skateboard off into the distance.
I'm going to go crash my wheelchair on this half pipe.
Yeah, I think it's just like everyone.
People were just really excited to see him, you know,
just have a celebrity interact with them
and kind of doing the same thing like everyone else is doing.
And I'm sure, Jack, seeing this now,
that probably puts your plans to go on Animal Crossing on hold
because you kind of wanted to be the OG of that,
but I guess he beat you to the punch.
Yeah, I wanted to be the first person
to really surprise people with a bushel of turnips.
So I'm going to have to come up with a new line
where I show up on someone's island and say,
time to turn up.
Right, right, right.
Fucking Elijah Wood. Once again.
Fuck. First,
he takes my idea to be the
biggest asshole in Hollywood at
poker games, and now
this. Wasn't that
him who was the
asshole in Molly's game was supposed
to be based on? Oh, shit.
Was it supposed to be Elijah on? Oh, shit. Was it supposed to be Elijah Wood?
Yeah, maybe.
I actually never saw Molly's game.
I just heard that it has a really unflattering depiction.
No, it's supposed to be Spider-Man.
Toby.
Is that not Elijah Wood?
No, no, no.
He's Frodo.
You're thinking of...
No, no, no.
Peter Parker, bro.
Toby.
It was Toby.
Toby McGuire.
I think they're the same person, but
we'll agree to disagree on that one.
Way to set two fandoms against each other.
I know. I apologize, guys.
But they're the same person.
And finally, NFL
Draft.
I prefer it in the bottle, but...
Ah, you son of a bitch. I knew you were gonna do that.
I'm on fire. I'm on fire
right now. Come on.
The dad jokes are just flowing through me.
Oh, my goodness.
You're like the emperor in Jedi, just shooting out of your fingers.
Ah!
Exactly.
I don't care about the NFL draft. This has always been a thing that happens on a day in the spring where, like, I think
it used to happen on the same day as the Kentucky Derby or, like, around the day of the spring where like i think it used to happen during the on the same day as the kentucky
derby or like around the day of the kentucky derby uh and yeah it's just this random like media
day where like all anybody talks about in sports is the nfl draft and i'm just tuned
the fuck out too many positions too many football players for me to keep track of uh as someone who just
doesn't know you know you every i'm famously not engaged with the nfl so yeah the one thing i
remember the last time i think i remember about the nfl draft was that it had happened around the
oklahoma city bombing because i remember i was on a trip like i think it was my spring break when
the oklahoma city bombing had happened and then
i feel like the news cycle was just the nfl draft or the oklahoma city bombing right oklahoma city
bombing happened on the anniversary of the waco uh standoff which is april something we talk about
on tomorrow's episode april 19th you know who was first draft first pick that year in 95 kijana carter oh wow holy shit i don't wait kijana carter i actually don't know who that is
running back for the bengals uh played for penn state because i just remember that was like one
of the you know back in the day like when the nike would make like college football jerseys
like the one from penn state was Kajana Carter's jersey that's
the only reason I know that person so people would be like oh shit does dude know about Nittany Lions
I'm like no no dude I know Nike shit from the 90s right right right right wow a running back who goes
number one now that's something that dates that draft am right? You're telling me. We've never...
Well, that's plenty.
That's four things that we're trending
right now. We hope you guys
are having a good quarantine,
a good afternoon. Staying safe.
Wash your hands. Be good to each
other. We will be back tomorrow
with a banger
of an episode.
We will talk to you guys then.
Bangar.
Talk to you then.
Bye.
