Kay hasn't heard from her sister in seven years.
I have a proposal for you.
Come up here and document my project.
All you need to do is record everything like you always do.
What was that?
That was live audio of a woman's nightmare.
Can Kay trust her sister or is history repeating itself?
There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing.
They're just dreams.

Hello, the internet, and welcome to this special episode of Thursday Zeit Fever.
I don't even know why it's special.
It's just special because we're here.
I'm Jack O'Brien.
Who are you?
I'm, I'm, who am I?
Miles.
I'm Miles Gray. Nailed it. Boom. Told you, doctor. here i'm jack o'brien who are you i'm i'm who am i miles i'm miles gray nailed it boom told you
doctor uh and we're talking about trends we're talking about what's trending now this evening
and up top we have so all these spotify apple music they're releasing their uh you know what
you listened to they're telling on you to you about what you listened
to musically this year.
That's an interesting way to describe that
process. It's also a mixture
I feel like a lot of people are embarrassed
too. Either people are out here being
like, fuck yeah, I like these
podcasts and shows, or other people are like, oh my
God, I've been exposed
as someone who likes whatever artist
they believe is a source of embarrassment.
I had to really sort through mine because got a lot of children's music on there.
That's cool.
It's easy listening.
Hey, it's self-care for you.
Very simple taste in music.
He likes the wheels on the bus better than most songs.
Different by five different artists.
Got a wheels on the bus playlist.
By five different artists, actually.
You've got to have wheels on the bus playlist.
Yeah, I also noticed that a lot of people are using this to flex on,
like stands are using it to be like,
look how many streams Ariana Grande had this year.
How many?
Oh, I'm sure.
2018, she had 2 billion streams.
This year, she had 5.7 billion streams,
in case you thought she wasn't exploding.
Yeah, good to know. Was that information that she
had tweeted out? No, just like her stance. Well, that makes sense. I don't know. I mean,
this whole new way of like measuring who the bigger fan base is based off of like trending
or view counts and things. Right. It's such a product of like social media culture where it's
like I can actually quantify how lit this is
because i'm used to looking at likes and things like that and when that's your currency like you
can't just be like yo this band is actually better than that band because your band sucks
rather than like well we got fucking nine billion tracks nine billion likes i do like
kind of the metric like when like doing it for the individual people, I think is fun.
It's a fun way to look back.
What do you mean?
Like that.
I liked looking back at my list.
Oh no, no.
What I meant is like when these fans, you know, like BTS fans will go up against like
One Direction people.
That's what I mean.
I like certain uses of the metrics.
Like I would be interested to see Netflix's like metrics.
Spotify told me I listened to over 5,700 different songs this year.
5,700?
That seems impossible.
Apple Music told me I listened to 12 different songs this year.
And five of them were Wheels of the Bus covers.
Was there, wait, how long until you actually got to a song you had actually been listening
to?
Like the 20s.
Ah, well.
Yeah.
Damn, what a good dad.
Shooter off Dialet. Oh, wow. Playboy Cardi? Yeah. Wow. That was my number one. Ah, well. Yeah. Damn, what a good dad. Shooter off Dial It.
Oh, wow.
Playboy Cardi?
Yeah.
Wow.
That was my number one.
Okay, sir.
That's How You Feel off Scorpion.
Just dropped my phone.
I think those are both songs you got me into.
No, I lean for real.
I was playing a lot for that Playboy Cardi song featuring Skepta.
Uh-huh.
Might not mess with us.
You made your super sus.
What about you?
What are you seeing in your tops?
Well, because Her Majesty uses my Spotify account to stream music because she refuses
to pay for it as an ongoing battle in my relationship.
Right.
My number one artist is Sharon Van Etten.
Who you don't listen to.
Like, has every top spot imaginable on this thing. Wow.
And then Nipsey Hussle, Hustle and Motivate
was one of the songs I listened to. I was,
I had that on loop after he passed away.
What else?
I had some
Norman fucking Rockwell
from Lana Del Rey.
The greatest. A couple of the songs
off that album. A couple of the songs off
Father of the Bride, the Vampire Weekend album.
Sweetener, I just discovered that song by Ariana Grande.
Have you heard her?
I'm still, this kid's been getting a little bit of buzz,
have not really checked her out yet.
Know her brother though, Frankie.
He is a force to be.
When I saw him on Big Brother,
tell everybody that that was his sister,
I knew we had a star.
That was very insecure on our hands.
One thing, I got a lot of Mitski, too.
That's also from Her Majesty, but I like Mitski.
Mitski's great.
Shout out to Japanese Americans.
But oddly enough, that one track from The Sinner, season one,
is in my top ten.
Big Black Delta?
Yeah, Hugging and Kissing.
That is all over my shit.
I don't know
it's it's spooky and i think it reminds me of how well that song was used throughout the show
yeah and i think that's kind of the the balance i'm striking with that one yeah stand on the word
i had a similar relationship to that the song that ends the first episode of righteous gemstones oh
really yeah it's like a 80s like disco. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There were some really, well, I think nearly every other episode,
I just had one of those outro songs on loop.
Yeah, they were blacking out to really good songs.
And Nike's off Blonde.
I think I told you at one point, I was like, man, Blonde is a really good album.
I listen to a lot of old music.
I'm an old man.
Hey, that's Frank Ocean, huh?
One for the old heads.
Another one.
Hey, put your grandpa to bed and turn on Blonde for him
so he goes to sleep with little sweet dreams of Nikes.
But I would love to get year-end lists from all of the streaming services,
all those things of what was the most watched,
how many hours did people watch?
All that good stuff.
Well, now that we live in the information age, that's coming soon. Hit me.
I want an Excel spreadsheet from all of you.
End of day.
Mulan is trending.
Yeah, that trailer.
It's the first trailer, I think?
No, no.
There was another one.
Oh, but this one has way more.
This one is like the real feature length trailer, basically.
Yeah, yeah.
It definitely feels like an action epic more than it feels like.
I think the first trailer recreated a bunch of the scenes from the animated movie.
I don't know why I pronounced it that way.
But this one makes it seem like it's
its own thing yeah i uh i don't know i'd never seen the animated version word uh but i like
action so yeah i still won't see it but good you won't see a PG-rated action movie? Nah, man. I need to see limbs coming off.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Otherwise, like, what's the point?
Exactly.
Visit Eroda is trending.
And I just went ahead and bought a ticket to Eroda.
Oh, you already got your ticket?
Yeah, I didn't even look into it.
Do you know what continent Eroda is on?
I was assuming, like, Eastern Europe, one of those like cool up and coming Eastern European nations.
I was too embarrassed to look it up.
So I too bought a ticket because I didn't want to ask.
Because it seems like a lot of younger people on Twitter were going to Eroda.
So I was like, oh, is this the new fire festival?
Is this the new Tulum, Mexico?
Yeah, yeah.
It turns out it's not a real place.
What?
Oh, I think we both bought tickets from the same travel agent based in Lagos, Nigeria.
Yes.
But it's actually, it's just a promotional pitch for the new Harry Styles album.
Yes.
Because it's called Adore You, I believe.
Uh-huh.
And Eroda is Adore backwards.
So that's-
Whoa.
I just, wait a second. Yeah, okay i see what i see what you're doing
harry styles turning words backwards guys come on that's it's the i mean the it's like the da Vinci
code version of clever it reminds me of this historical cartoon from my history class like
back in the day when there was like the embargo
act of like 1807 and there was like this thing where they just kept calling it a turtle called
oh grab me and it was embargo backwards and i remember being like whoa i see what they did
there and i was like oh grab me sounds really dumb but anyway shout out to the embargo act of 1807. Wait, your, your history textbook was doing that?
No,
this was like an actual political cartoon of that era pushing back against
like,
you know,
yeah.
Like merchants.
Low in mind.
Hey man.
Late 19th century.
Yep.
Yep.
Eddie Murphy's trending.
Yeah.
What's going on with him?
He was on Ellen.
Awesome.
And I think she was like,
see, I have black friends too.
They're not just all war criminals. Did she get mad at him for not inviting her to his birthday party?
I don't know.
No, it was like halfway between, I think there were some headlines talking about him going back on SNL.
And then the one anecdote that was going around was this thing because he has 10 children.
one anecdote that was going around was this thing because he has 10 children
and he told on Ellen
he was basically saying like how men and women
respond differently to him when he brings up
that he has 10 kids right and he's
like you know so Ellen was like does it
seem like a lot to you or does that seem
okay like the you know
having the 10 children he's like no that
seems okay and he said men kind of look
at me like he's crazy how much did that
cost right and then he said and women it's kind me like he's crazy how much did that cost right uh
and then he said and women it's kind of like there's something sexy about it i think eddie
murphy must be doing his thing jokingly but uh i sure yeah 10 kids man like my mind uh yeah i'm
thinking how much did that shit cost right how much How much? Because it's not like the same woman in one marriage, right?
No, no, no, no.
He has a – he's had previous marriage.
But isn't there like a figure like what it costs to raise a child like from like birth to 18 basically?
Oh, yeah.
It's something like a quarter million dollars or some shit?
I mean it depends. You can can find savings uh yeah sure you know like clothe them in paper clothes
and paper stuff like i do you like uh paper hospital gowns yeah i mean it rare it rains so
rarely out here just in a brown bag just a brown Yeah, man. That gives me anxiety thinking about that.
I'm too selfish to spend money on my own child right now.
All I know is my parents made it work for very, very little money when we were kids.
I think that's why my parents have one.
They're like, nope, nope, nope.
Raising you in L.A., I'm sure that's more expensive than wheeling West Virginia.
Hey, but the wheels keep on turning, man.
They keep on turning, don't they?
You said it.
From a town known as wheeling West Virginia.
First line of the album Piano Man.
It is?
Yeah.
Wrote a boy with a six gun in his hand.
Is that Billy Hoel?
Yeah, Billy Hoel.
Billy Hoel.
Love him.
Love him.
The best.
Classic.
Is he from New Jersey?
He is.
Yeah, all right.
Well, actually, I think he's from Long Island.
Oh, fuck.
Long Island.
Don't want to mix that up.
Well, shit, man.
Shit, dude.
Shit, man.
You guys can check back in tomorrow.
We got a banger of an episode coming at you.
And then after that, we'll do another one of these check-ins with the trends tomorrow evening.
Yo, Billy Joel was born in the Bronx.
Was he?
Yeah.
Hell yeah.
Yeah.
Sorry, gang gang.
That's why he likes those uptown girls.
Yeah.
Oh, damn.
Look at him.
All right, guys. Have a great night. We'll be back tomorrow. Oh, man. Look at him. All right, guys.
Have a great night.
We'll be back tomorrow.
Bye-bye.
Bye.
