Starting point is 00:01:04 Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. Every great player needs a foil. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Listen to the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese on the iHeart on the iheart radio app apple podcast or wherever you
Starting point is 00:01:25 get your podcast presented by capital one founding partner of iheart women's sports hello the internet and welcome to this episode of trend flag movies there's a debate happening we're gonna save it for the second part but what are the red flag movies? The movies that if someone tells you, oh, that's my favorite. I love that movie. Citizen Kane. Zero Dark Thirty. I never even seen Citizen Kane. Have you been to the Academy Museum? I know you have not.
Starting point is 00:01:55 No. Okay. So first of all, you saw the picture I took. I flicked it up with what's the original shark from Jaws called? Like Billy or Bobby. Oh, that was that was the Bruce. Bruce. Bruce.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Yeah. Yeah. So that picture I took was from a science museum oh that's big that's bruce bruce bruce yeah get crunk with it bruce oh man with it like short said let bruce bruce hit it um that's bruce the shark but anyway in the thing like they have a display where they have the original um rosebud like a little sleigh and the funny thing is, I've never seen fucking Citizen Kane because I was never into cinema enough to be like, I gotta see it.
Starting point is 00:02:31 It's black and white. Miss me with it all. But when they have it in there, when I saw it, I was like, oh shit, Rose, look at you in here. And we can't say what it is because you can't spoil Citizen Kane. I literally just said that. I have no idea what why is that shit important oh miles you simply must watch citizen kane it's a harkens back to a time when uh it was enough to have a simple household item
Starting point is 00:02:57 be the the thing that brings people into theaters as opposed to big sharks nah jack come on we're big sharks over here i'm a big shark guy personally so we'll talk about it we'll think about if anybody has any red flag movies i definitely do i bet they're all like my favorite i'm a fucking geriatric millennial who came of age in 2005 like come on now well we'll get to it. But first, Davos is trending because all the biggest, richest criminals, billionaires in the world are gathering in Davos, Switzerland. This is going to make some people sad, but the proceedings apparently got off to a somber start. According to the Wall Street Journal, their champagne fountain like broke or something.
Starting point is 00:03:42 It was it was feeling a little less fizzy this year around um oh yeah apparently the end of the free money era has put a chill in the swiss mountain air these motherfuckers man yeah man it's tough fucking interest rates are killing us man yeah i'm not about to dip into my fucking our accounts and shit fuck that i love the other thing i read i saw another headline that said it's down to managers to stop quiet quitting davos leaders say yes there we go so this is just like the propaganda font for all the like globalism brains capitalist talking points that are out there but it's just kind of wild to me like how again these people are so insulated because of their wealth they have quite literally no idea
Starting point is 00:04:31 how anybody who isn't a billionaire lives or like even quiet quitting where they're like it's not that like it's something that's getting away from you as a manager it's because your working conditions fucking suck it's not a communication problem people don't fucking work they're they're starting to be like what are my needs well they're not being a communication problem. People don't want to fucking work. They're starting to be like, what are my needs? Well, they're not being fucking met here, and they don't pay me enough, so fuck all that. Stop being like, managers have to do a better job of communicating the values. Like, what the fuck? Channing Tatum is trending for a couple reasons.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Yeah. I didn't know he was dating Zoe Kravitz. Yeah, he's dating Zoe Kravitz, which I found out about because I recently watched The Lost City and was like, what's... How old is Channing Tatum? Isn't he our age? What's he up to? Yeah, he's our age. He's 42. So a little bit older than you.
Starting point is 00:05:19 But he's right in there. Whatever, bro. I'll take him. Well, he's only two years older than me. What grade is he in i got this uh looks great in the movie has some funny scenes dating zoe kravitz so you know great work he said something like i felt like i was trying too hard i was reading the headlines and he was like following some fan accounts i was like bro is this your first time like dating just liking every post yeah or like a woman of color like are you overthinking everything like she's so cool and i'm just chain i just know how to body roll real good yeah he's coming off of a
Starting point is 00:05:56 decades-long marriage that just ended so it's tricky out there and there's probably a rom-com in the offing about about channing Tatum getting back out there. As a 42-year-old who was like, yeah, man, when I was dating, man, the year was 2002. And I had it like that. Again, he will be the embodiment of the out here as in like out here. Basically, just be 23 Jump Street. Ghost is what he has his eyes on the 1990 movie about death and pottery based erotica is going to potentially be remade by channing tatum
Starting point is 00:06:35 oh okay uh wait is he saying like he's pursuing this as a producer he is he's signed on to do this production company bought the rights to the movie wow yeah can't think of a another thing that we needed more right now then fucking bring go like huh yeah okay go ahead go ahead do what you gotta do he did say it needs to change a little bit presumably a reference to the fact that the only black character in the movie is inexplicably magical. Hey, we'll see what he learned. We'll see what he learned. We'll see what he learned. Yeah, dude, I think that Whoopi Goldberg character could be
Starting point is 00:07:14 way more powerful. Could have all kinds of magic powers, man. That's right. There's also almost a ghost TV show in 2013. It definitely feels like a movie that doesn't make sense that it was as successful as it was. And it's just like there was something
Starting point is 00:07:29 about the moment and the performers and everything that just worked about it. But people are trying to make it happen. I remember in fourth grade or third grade, I remember being like, my parents were like,
Starting point is 00:07:44 man, Ghost Day for you. Not like you can't watch it, but I was like, well, it's ghost like man you don't want to you don't need to watch that shit and then i remember like let's watch ghost on vhs just to figure out what it was about and i was like oh shit dude pottery the throwing wheel that's the only thing that stuck with me oh really i watched that movie a lot like because it came out when i was in like fourth grade and for some reason i don't know i think i might have seen it in the theater or something. And it really, really stuck with me. Stuck with you.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Wow. Ghost. Ditto. Jaws. An emotionally unavailable man. Yeah. Learns to be less emotionally unavailable. Debt ceiling is trending.
Starting point is 00:08:21 This tends to happen every time. The president and Congress congress some kind of power struggle yeah different parties so washington is gearing up for another big fight over whether to raise or suspend the nation's debt limit i don't know like they always talk about this in ways that seem to suggest it's like too complicated and like well there's all these factors at work and i'm sure that's true but it's ultimately like republicans just wanting to cause pain to make joe biden look bad right basically yeah because i mean all it is is like what's our defined legal limit on how much debt we want to accrue right and like they always like point to it to be like, look at what the budget,
Starting point is 00:09:05 like, look at all this debt. It's like you, y'all, everybody keeps kicking the fucking can down the road. Ain't nobody wants to fucking start thinking of like, how are you going to, what are you going to cut back on military spending?
Starting point is 00:09:16 You fucking dummies. Come on now. So it just ends up becoming this whole, you know, like you said, it's just because it gets weaponized because if, you know, suddenly we go past that and we have to halt whole you know like you said it's just because it gets weaponized because if you know suddenly we go past that and we have to halt you know all the extraordinary measures have been exhausted that's when checks stop coming in you know right like that's if you work for the
Starting point is 00:09:36 federal government your paycheck could stop their social security like so it causes enough chaos that you know if you're craving enough you're like like, yeah, I don't know. See what the fuck they do. Yeah. An opportunity to directly cause pain based on political things. Yeah. But you can act like you're being fiscally irresponsible. Right. The whole thing is irresponsible as fuck.
Starting point is 00:09:57 But yeah, it's never a problem when like the parties are lockstep through the different chambers. But now they can have a little fun with this to see what happens with Joe Byron and McCarthy and the whole GOP. Now, the whole gang and they play what hand tune in next time. Tune in next time when your Medicare checks stop coming in. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Let's take a quick break. We'll be back to talk red flag movies and power Rangers. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me for I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control
Starting point is 00:10:56 groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, I've been thinking about you. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110, 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello, everyone. I am Lacey Lamar. And I'm Amber Ruffin, a better Lacey Lamar. Boo.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Okay, everybody, we have exciting news to share. We're back with Season 2 of the Amber and Lacey, Lacey and Amber Show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network. You thought you had fun last season? Well, you were right. And you should tune in today for new fun segments like Sister Court and listening to Lacey's steamy DMs. We've got new and exciting guests like Michael Beach. That's my husband. Daphne Spring, Daniel Thrasher, Peppermint, Morgan Jay, and more. You got to watch us. No, you mean you have to listen to us.
Starting point is 00:13:05 I mean, you can still watch us, but you got to listen. Like, if you're watching us, you have to tell us. Like, if you're out the window, you have to say, hey, I'm watching you outside of the window. Just, you know what? Listen to the Amber and Lacey, Lacey and Amber show on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And so BuzzFeed, I guess, issued a new list of red flag movies. I feel like they issue red flag movies kind of on a pretty regular basis.
Starting point is 00:13:44 That's like a weekly. Is it generational? Oh, every week there's a new one. I feel like once a few years have passed, you're like, okay, we got to update this shit. Well, there was one earlier in the summer, I remember. And now there's apparently a new one. And so they issued their list. Gawker came through with theirs. The BuzzFeed one just seems to be like overrated movies more than anything else.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Or just popular movies that have like, so love actually is number one on their red flag movies list. But I know a bunch of fine people who really fuck with love actually, you know, but we talk fucking cash shit about that movie here. Oh, I do. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:14:20 but I don't, it doesn't make me, it's not like a red flag movie scene. I don't know. It just suggests something. Right, right, right. Whereas love actually just means you're a silly romantic
Starting point is 00:14:33 who really loves Christmas, I guess. And a lack of agency? Yeah. A Joker, I think, is a pretty clean-cut one. Sure. Then they have the human Centipede, which... That's wild if you led with, yeah, man, that's one of my favorite movies. On a date.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Yeah, that's the framing they always do if you're on a date and someone says, The Wolf of Wall Street, that makes sense. Suicide Squad, not to be confused with The Suicide Squad. So it's like the original one by the guy who makes all the pro-police, the David Ayer. Right. Oh, yeah. And it's like American Sniper, Taxi Driver, Scarface, Donnie Darko. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:20 I mean, those are pretty... Fight Club. This feels like a low energy listicle to be honest yeah for sure for BuzzFeed Gawker came with hard eight and basically saying like anybody who's like PT Anderson's debut film is actually his best
Starting point is 00:15:35 okay I get that yeah it's annoying thank you thank you all Joe Swanberg movies which I think is like the mumblecore guy the virgin suicides they're saying that if she's your favorite director great if this is your favorite of her movies take a beat primer tenant i don't know what they have again can you imagine the tenant be like man tenant yeah the way they made that though the way they made that, though. The way they made that. I mean, I sound like me.
Starting point is 00:16:07 And I haven't even seen Tenet yet because I was like, man, I gotta see this in the theater. And then I was like, the pandemic took me away. Never mind. Yeah. They both seem like movies
Starting point is 00:16:18 that were designed to generate internet flowcharts, Primer and Tenet. They're both time travel, time direction things that people are going to love to explain to you. They closed out with Citizen Kane.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Hey! So there you go. Thank you. I think my main one is the Boondock Saints. Do you remember that movie? Oh, yeah. I mean, again,
Starting point is 00:16:41 I think that was like the white version of Belly, maybe? I think that's right. I think that's right. I think that was like the white version of Belly, maybe. That's right. I think that's right. I think that's how someone tried to fucking sell it to me. And I was like, I'm good. I'll watch Belly again. That is really my only one where I'm like, oh, I'm at least just not going to want to
Starting point is 00:16:57 talk about movies with this person. I think it's right. Right. Right. Movie taste really fucks with. This makes perfect sense. Right. Because I was putting
Starting point is 00:17:05 a lot of like white kids on to gangster movies in college so i'm like oh you never seen king of new york what i'm like y'all you never seen fuck man fuck scarface you never seen king of new york and they watch it and all the time there would always be this refrain man you gotta see boondock saints and i'm like i thought you were gonna say they were saying that you gotta see boondock saints and i'm like i thought you're gonna say they were saying that you gotta see boondock saints and then they saw it and were appropriately embarrassed no no no that would always be like the the culture share moment where i'd be like oh here's this i'm like so much rap inner like interstitials interluse take fucking you know like the frank white like big's whole shit he takes so much from king of new york and they're
Starting point is 00:17:45 like wow wow wow and then the response would be like man check out boondock saints man i'll bring that by next time bring that by next time it's like the movie when you first see reservoir dogs or pulp fiction and you're 11 that you would have like written with a gun to your head sick ass wanton violence dude i. I love it. Love it. Love it. So tight. Anyways,
Starting point is 00:18:07 hit us with your, uh, red flag movies, but like a good one, a nuanced one. You know what I mean? Yeah. I like that.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Um, Greta Thunberg is trending. She, uh, she was arrested. Oh, why can't she just be cool? I know.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Why can't she just be cool and be passive about trying to warn people about the dangers of our warming planet because of pollution? But anyway, because of, you know, the war in Ukraine, a lot of people are like, you know, getting away from natural gas because they were getting it from Russia, which meant other fossil fuels being burnt, which meant coal. And there was an expansion of this coal mine and a lot of protesters came out in Germany. there was an expansion of this coal mine and a lot of protesters came out in Germany. You may have seen like some of the clips over the week weekend where like there was like a one where like the riot police were like just stuck in the mud and it felt like a Benny Hill sketch or something. Cause like they couldn't get there.
Starting point is 00:18:53 Like this one person is falling over with their leg fixed in the mud. They're like, ah, I can't get out. Um, but then yeah, Greta Thunberg was arrested for being there. I'm curious how the media will cover it because when she was just making speeches that were like, it's really fucked out here, y'all.
Starting point is 00:19:10 People were like, oh, Greta. And when she's like, and also the rampant nature of capitalism with its runaway profits. And wait, hold on. Let me finish this. Because of that, there will be no way for us to move on if we are addicted to this kind of growth like arrest her yeah but anyway she was over at this protest and i think a lot of people the reason it's trending on twitter is because a bunch of people are just making stupid jokes like when gretta sees andrew tate in prison dude it's be hilarious like first
Starting point is 00:19:39 of all do you know anything about anything right was that like a good moment for climate change when the andrew tate thing like it like made her relevant to people is that like people are going to be more aware of climate change because of the the meme about the pizza getting him arrested no clue but anyway real shit's going on and yeah i mean i think it's like as as we see constantly we're just getting reminders that we can't fucking sit on our hands. Where's the action? Yeah. And when it gets specific, people are much less comfortable with pointing out the specific ways that capitalism ties into this.
Starting point is 00:20:17 Wait, so what's wrong with making money, though? How does that hook up the planet? Because that actually creates. Never. No. Just go back to your fucking manosphere youtube videos there's a good documentary on hbo king in the wilderness about the last year of martin luther king jr's life and how kind of reviled he was uh at the end of his life because he had started kind of tying his critique of institutional racism and with a critique of capitalism and
Starting point is 00:20:46 that that seems to be the line where people stop tolerating your uh your criticism yeah the intersectional nature of it because it's like wait hold on he's trying to get the poor white people to team up to yeah no no no no no no no that like the, it's like the one hand we have to play. And Power Rangers is trending. Yeah. Oof. There's a 30th anniversary special coming to Netflix. I'm old, baby.
Starting point is 00:21:13 30 damn years. And I remember when this shit came out, but it's only two of the original cast members are in it because it's a little tragic. I didn't realize Trini,
Starting point is 00:21:24 the Yellow Ranger, she passed away in a car accident. Like in the early two thousands, we know about the green white Ranger who passed away recently. I think the red Ranger isn't in it for some reason. Amy Jo Johnson, who I think was the pink Ranger. She's not in it. So we got Zach and Billy, I think is what was their names from anyway, the black and the blue, they're the only ones back. Yeah. They shockingly turns out 30 years have passed yeah especially when you're doing a show like already in your mid-20s i mean you're like we're in high school you're like well all right whatever that's right sure you are sure you are but yeah they look uh they look happy and it's uh yeah just wild to just to see
Starting point is 00:22:06 like the face of david yost who's the like the blue ranger when you're like yeah man that's an adult bro like yeah and i kind of like it almost feels like like the like when daniel craig started becoming james bond we're like okay so are we trying to show like how fucked up life is for a power ranger because that would be interesting take but no it's uh like they're pitching is like a joyous occasion and it seems like it's like a joyous occasion for the people involved with the making and i'm glad they have that but for the rest of us it's like oh man yeah it's a bummer like reading just about like what happened to this person what happened this person you're like oh no yeah um but, they're back. 30th anniversary.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Come feel old with us. They'll have like a really sad, like acoustic guitar remix of the Power Rangers theme song. You know, go, go, power, question mark at the end of go,
Starting point is 00:22:58 go, power Rangers. You mighty morphin' Power Rangers. All right. mighty morphin power ranger her um alright those are some of the things that are trending on this Tuesday January 17th we are back tomorrow with the whole last episode
Starting point is 00:23:16 of the show until then be kind to each other be kind to yourselves get the vaccine don't do nothing about white supremacy and we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed.
