And on this new season, we'll cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the Internet, and welcome to... It's Trenderation Next. Generation Next. Remember Pepsi? I almost said
Starting point is 00:02:09 Pizza Hut. Pepsi Hut. Man, I was part of Generation Next. They're partnered together. Is Pizza Hut owned by Pepsi? I don't know. They're not owned, but I think they are exclusive Pepsi. Yum Brands. Exactly. Of course they are.
Starting point is 00:02:26 You see what we do over here? Anyway, I'm Miles. That's Becca. Hello. Hi. How you doing? I'm good. I'm good.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Excited to be here today. Oh, wow. Great to have you. Let's tell the folks what is trending on the internet. The first thing that is trending. Elon. As in Musk, as in that fucking guy. That guy. Scrub ass Tony Stark.
Starting point is 00:02:59 He's out here trending because he just bought close to 10% stake in Twitter. This was like coming on the heels. I remember a couple of weeks ago he put a poll. I was like, do you think free speech is really, is, is, is actually, you're able to engage in free speech on Twitter? I don't know why I'm talking like Nicolas Cage. That's my Elon Musk impersonation. But I mean, I have never really listened to him speak, but to me that felt right. So go off Elon, you know, buy your 10% stake. I don't know what the fuck that means.
Starting point is 00:03:24 They did say that Twitter stock went up after he bought it. So I don't know what that means either because the stock market is a scary place of weird white men. Hey, it's just people trying to make it. I'm still selling my NFTs, folks. If you want my NFTs,
Starting point is 00:03:41 check out NFTsNuts.com. i'm giving them away at this point i'm not gonna lie they're not doing great um coachella though that's trending let's not talk about my nft project that went down um because kanye west not performing no travis okay i mean cool thank god i don't know like i am like is kanye stable enough to perform at coachella i feel like that would have been an insane show not a good way biggest thing missing from all of this is like what who was who was around kanye yeah urging him to keep keep it cooking at this temperature still because i think so many people are just kind of like this is this is kind of a very slow motion uh descent into sadness uh but yeah i don't know i the the coachella lineup i can't remember if there were other any good ones but that definitely opens up a big old headliner
Starting point is 00:04:38 spot yeah but that shit's fucking isn't that shit this month it is this month and they were having issues i saw earlier at least like trending on tiktok that a lot of people who have bought tickets in 2019 they were told that they could redeem or not 2019 2020 right uh that they could redeem them for this 2022 show but because of obviously the influx of people who did buy those tickets there's been a lot of tickets lost in translation so people who literally spent money did not get their money back like they have not gotten a free return like a refund not even like hey we weren't able to fulfill your ticket so like here's your money back like it's just like lost and eaten 500 plus dollars see that's what and that's what i would do when i would go i bought them off the website maybe once before and went through that.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Every other time, I would wait like the day of and find somebody so desperate on Craigslist. I'm going to have to eat all this money. I'm like, I say less. I'm right here. I'll give you half. Yeah. Like, what do you need? I'm sorry, but I need to do Molly in a tent with Fatboy Slim.
Starting point is 00:05:46 I almost did Coachella once because it's always my birthday weekend. So I'm always like, I'm going to do it. And then I'm just like, I feel like as I get older, I'm getting too tired to do a festival that long.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Yeah. And you'll realize, I mean, I remember like early on, I used to go, I used to fucking camp and shit there. Yeah. And that's a lot. And as somebody who, look look i'm not trying to
Starting point is 00:06:06 be gross but like i only go number two in my own house you know exactly i got home field advantage or like if i'm in a hotel fine yeah like if i'm looking at a safe space a fucking bank of baking in the desert heat porta potties yeah no guess whose body's like no i don't think you're going to bathroom at all you're good you're good just keep partying no i literally have issues with all of that while traveling like period so i literally just i know i wouldn't go for four days like i would just be stuck get that little bit of culture shock or that travel shock to the gut not great anyway uh so you know and that's gut talk on tZ. And that's been gut talk.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Shout out to all y'all who stand by us. And then lastly, for this segment, Hunter Biden is trending because their conservatives are really, really going off on this one. There was an ABC News report that was saying that, you know, the Secret Service has to, like, rent this mansion in Malibu to protect Hunter Biden. And the shit costs like 30k a month to rent and people like oh how could this happen look at all the money for hunter byron what is this uh but many people are like this isn't new like this is what happens this is what the this is something that extends to family members of the president. And also, I don't know if you heard about California or a lot of metropolitan areas. The prices don't make sense anymore. It's an absolute robbery job on people.
Starting point is 00:07:35 So, yeah, a little Malibu place might be 30K a fucking month. And then many people on Twitter were like, like oh people don't realize how much the trump children cost taxpayers yeah it was after he left absolutely insane well and especially because wasn't it like i towards the beginning of the presidency that like um melania refused to live in the white house like she still had her place in new york and so like they're paying for secret service in new york and dc so like there's no room that like at least, you know, like Joe Biden's family for the most part is in D.C. and in the White House. Like this is insane. If anything, I want to know about the turn up at that $30,000 a month mansion in Malibu.
Starting point is 00:08:18 Absolutely. That sounds fun. Yeah. Like and then you'd be like, man, fuck it. I got to be a weird president cop. Yeah. And then you'd be like, man, fuck it. I got to be a weird president cop, but at least I can kick it in this mansion in Malibu with my other friends who are just as equally emotionally aloof. And all we can really commiserate on is state-sanctioned violence. But whatever, it's a vibe in here. It's a vibe.
Starting point is 00:08:40 It's Malibu. It's given this place its Malibu vibe. You know what I mean? All right, let's take a quick break and we'll be back to talk about the rest of the trending topics. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted just like mine through powerful in-depth interviews with former members and new chilling firsthand accounts the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives forgive me for i have
Starting point is 00:09:35 followed will be more than an exploration it's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again listen to forgive me for i have followedRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties
Starting point is 00:10:17 you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Sananner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:10:49 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys. I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros,
Starting point is 00:11:17 Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. soon women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained?
Starting point is 00:11:39 This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up?
Starting point is 00:12:16 Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago.
Starting point is 00:12:32 We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from blumhouse television iheart radio and realm listen to dream sequence on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts and we're back sacramento is trending because over the weekend there was a mass shooting uh where six people ended up losing their lives over around a dozen people wounded in the capital of the state of california and i this is i don't know like we've within the time that we started
Starting point is 00:13:22 this show mass shootings went from a thing that would take up two weeks worth of media space to 10 days to five days to one day to a couple hours to now even man what happened on the grammys last night wait there was a mass shooting in sacramento and we're still we're over here on some like oh yeah that sucks well that's kind of like I think we're reaching that level of apathy now around I mean I am like I looked at this new
Starting point is 00:13:54 story and I was kind of like take a deep breath and then like move on because like what I think it's exhausting because at this point I feel like I don't know what else to do right it's like we talk about it it's exhausting because at this point, I feel like I don't know what else to do, right? It's like we talk about it. It's important to raise awareness.
Starting point is 00:14:09 We donate to the causes. We are actively being anti-gun. But at this point, it's crazy that the government every day just does not care about its people. It's like they know what they need to do when it comes to lobbying and gun and restrictions and all those things and they just refuse to do it they they would rather get money from the gun lobby than to protect the lives of innocent people the nra is barely hidden like it used to so you know fucking do something but yeah it's you know we have a we have gun violence issues we have
Starting point is 00:14:46 racism issues we have homophobia issues where yeah we're we have we're constantly looking at the same thing play out where people of you know good conscience are like this is horrible and why does it continue and yeah it it all it can do is kind of grind you down you know any other time i feel like that would have been massive massive news but yeah uh man just obviously rest in peace to those people who lost their lives and absolutely those that are wounded can recover as well third good marshall is trending along just with the general supreme court vibes at the moment um third good marshall though is trending specifically because first we are now at the moment. Thurgood Marshall, though, is trending specifically because, first, we are now at the point where Ketanji Brown Jackson has moved away from the racist interrogation sessions of the confirmation
Starting point is 00:15:35 hearings from a couple weeks ago now to fully discuss the nomination and to push this nomination through. So we have the first black woman serving as supreme court justice uh on the supreme court in the u.s then you got places like politico like along with that news tweeting stuff like you know katanji brown jackson is on track to be the first black supreme court justice and people were like oh clarence thomas is literally yeah they're like he's there right now and look i get maybe you're taking shots like you're trying to do a joe biden thing we're like he ain't black yeah that's scary
Starting point is 00:16:11 i mean even then i'm like political but i don't know if that's for y'all to leave that to it anyway but then there are people like uh thurgood marshall as well like the actually like really uh substantive supreme court justice who again has a lot more in common with katanji than fucking clarence thomas does because she comes from a public defender background which we've talked on the show which is markedly different than pretty much everyone else who's a prosecutor who's more on the side of look what you did wrong we gotta get your ass yeah versus somebody who's a defender being like hey you know we kind of you know these laws are kind of we need to really look at all the dimensions of how someone gets to this place right now you know people deserve rights and like human
Starting point is 00:16:53 empathy and you know sure sure sure well yeah i love those words too those sound good um but in practice they're just so hard to extend to people be Becca, because that's the cool part about the United States. So yes, she is pretty much set to make her mark on history. And you know what's really interesting? There was polling that showed that her popularity went up after all that racist BS that went down with her being just all of her morals and professionalism being questioned.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Her fucking polling numbers went up after that. Making her one of the most basically popular Supreme Court nominees like we've ever seen. And that's wonderful to hear. Because I mean I'm sure much like how I felt watching that stuff. It was just like this is so lunacy. Like it is insane. Oh yeah. That these people are asking these questions.
Starting point is 00:17:47 And it just it broke my brain. It made me I mean at least i was angry in a very different way than when i saw um what's his face get confirmed in 20 brett kavanaugh yeah brett kavanaugh in 2017 was it or 2018 18 i think 2018 yeah yeah like that i felt like i was sitting i was literally i remember at my workplace they did a watch party which is dystopic in and of itself and uh they had drinks out they were like here do y'all want to take shots and commiserate in like the sadness that is that we're even having this like trial for him to get confirmed and i was like clenching my hands and wanting to like punch a wall this is so nasty and triggering to watch, you know,
Starting point is 00:18:25 a, uh, a person who is convicted multiple sexual assaults, you know, get confirmed in the Supreme court. Uh, whereas like on this end, it was like amazing to see a black woman who's so strong and powerful and
Starting point is 00:18:38 incredible and qualified, you know, have the opportunity to be at this, you know, level, but also so saddening to see how nasty these questions were yeah and how white supremacy will rear its head whenever it's given the right opportunity and to the point where like if you watched it you would have been like if this was
Starting point is 00:18:56 a hidden camera at someone's like job performance like interview or whatever you know job assessment meeting or whatever the fuck kind of shit people have in these jobs you know whatever these things are called jobs that you would have been like oh this is like the most fucked up place to work like i can't believe these people are talking to her like that and not seeing how overtly just hostile and racist they appear but again put that through the context of like the senate confirmation hearings and like wow like they're really acting tough today like don't know these people are trash but you know what katanji uh on on track to make history so a bit of a bit of positivity uh you know what's probably going to shape up to be another weird week because what week isn't at this point right
Starting point is 00:19:43 every day it gets weirder out there i know so hey all we got to do is stay weirder you know what i mean then everything will be okay uh becca thanks so much for helping me talk trends today uh make sure uh you guys tune in uh tomorrow we got a big old episode great one great one for you uh as well as you know more trending throughout the week but until then please take care of yourselves take care of each other try to have an open mind and heart because there's too many hater ass ignorant people out there so be like one of the the chill ones for sure all right then uh we'll catch you later till then bye Hey, I'm Gianna Pradenti. And I'm Jermaine Jackson-Gadsden.
