Starting point is 00:00:00 not to get sexy but i had a great shower yeah what's a great shower for you just hot and long just you know yeah yeah you do the thing where man when when i like have a long i always put my forehead against the wall right underneath the shower head and just like i'm like a guy in an action movie you know what i mean like after he like pulled a bullet out of his arm and just like let my head like yeah you just lost your best friend and you know revenge is coming but you gotta process it emotionally exactly exactly exactly that's how it's so i think so many of my shows like that was a good one it's like it's some fucking form of an 80s action film cop shower. Yeah. I fucking did it, dude. Kay hasn't heard from her sister in seven years.
Starting point is 00:00:53 I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. What was that? That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. Can Kay trust her sister or is history repeating itself? There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams.

Just listen, okay? Or Lacey gets it. Do it. Hello, the internet, and welcome to season 346, episode two of the Daily Zeitgeist, a production of iHeartRadio. It's a podcast where we take a deep dive into America's shared consciousness. You knew this. Did you also know this? It's Tuesday, July 9th, 2024. Did you know this? That means it's National Dimples Day. Don't have them, but good for you if you do.
Starting point is 00:02:49 It's also Cow Appreciation Day, National Sugar Cookie Day. That's it. Dimples, cows, and sugar cookies to just, you know, sprinkle over your wonderful July 9th, Tuesday. All of the genders. Exactly. Exactly. The only thing cuter than dimples is a cow eating a sugar cookie. That's true.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Well, imagine a dimpled cow eating a sugar cookie. I just ejaculated. Oh, well, good. Thank you for being honest. That means I will be honest and I will say that it's me. I cannot. I had an accident. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Well, please allow me to introduce myself. Yes, it is I, Miles Gray, a.k.a. the Shogun with no gun, a.k.a. the Lord of Lancashire, North Hollywood's finest. And I'm thrilled to be joined by my guest co-host, comedian, actor, writer, improviser, what name? You name it. He's done it all. Please welcome to the microphone and also lover of skate culture, too. Gotta say. Gotta say.
Starting point is 00:03:46 We talk a lot about skating, especially 90s, early on skating together. Anyway, welcome to the show, Mark Burke! Yay! Thanks, dude. Thanks for having me. I'm really good to be here. Thank you for that. You, I love, I sound like a quadruple threat all of my, but all of my abilities are deeply
Starting point is 00:04:01 non-threatening. Yeah. Dude, he loves a good skate video. Loves a yes and. Yeah, yeah. Loves a hot 10-minute stand-up set. Exactly. Just the least scary stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:11 And a hot shower with an orange. All right. Well, see, now we're getting into the business. All right. Let's talk shower oranges, man. Maybe a peach shower. Yeah, I'd do a peach shower because peaches to me are even sloppier than an orange. You know, I need to-
Starting point is 00:04:23 I'd go in there with a rack of ribs. Yeah. You do a sloppy rib in there? Just completely. But I hide the ribs like Gollum with the ring. Right, right, right. But then when I'm done with the ribs, I'm just like washing all the sauce off. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Now you're understanding the practicality of the shower food. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, just take your rack of ribs in the shower it's much cleaner that way uh and well you heard the voice right there it's one of our favorite guests when we have something tech to discuss he is look i'm just going to describe him as one of the greatest raider fans of all time obviously i think that's no oh yeah oh yeah oh one of the member of a large class action suit. Oh, are you right now? Is there something going on? No, just I'm a season ticket holder. It's the same thing.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Yeah. Oh, right. Yeah. Well, hey, shout out the Davis family and shout out this very fantastic tech critic with giving us all the news that you need when it comes to things like the rod economy and the tech sector at large. Host of the Better Offline podcast on cool zone media please welcome ed zitron what's up youtube welcome yeah well yeah we'll call youtube today eventually we will be there we will be there i don't use youtube i i have no idea how well i mean i use it but like the idea of posting videos on there scares me because every single time i've watched someone with like a huge following on twitter huge following on face um on like facebook or instagram they're like i'm gonna post my videos on youtube and they get like 500 views yeah yeah youtube's just the just the brutal it happened because you're trying to you're basically when you do that you're trying you're starting over because that's a completely
Starting point is 00:05:57 other ecosystem although some people do like with podcasts some people just only use youtube to listen to podcasts it's strange so that's terrifying yeah like the least you that's that's an insane way to consume podcasts to me it's just to have just to have like just like youtube with a static graphic screen playing hey man yeah i also like the people who do it and they've just got the shittiest video feed yeah right and you can tell they're doing it. I feel bad because they're trying to get ads. Right.
Starting point is 00:06:27 And it's just, yeah. YouTube, true nightmare, but a great place to find Elliot Smith concerts. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I've been down that rabbit hole. That's usually a good indicator that my mental health needs addressing. Yeah, someone texted me the other day and was like, oh, you listen to Elliot Smith. You okay?
Starting point is 00:06:43 Yeah, everything. All right, man. I'm like, no. What time listen to Elliot Smith. You okay? Yeah. Yeah. Everything. All right, man. I'm like, no. What time of day? Absolutely. Yeah. You want to talk about it? No.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Oh, man. I'm drowning in unchecked depression. Why do you think I'm watching all these glorious concerts? Do you think because I'm feeling good? I'm trying to pick at a wound right now with music. But anyway, Ed, it's good to have you. Obviously, we're going to talk about things. I mean, at first, I was like, I've just been so obsessed with the Cybertruck and all of the failings. I saw one for the first time a few weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Wait, you just saw one for the first time? I feel like Vegas would be crawling with them. Not see one in Vegas. I was in New York, and I saw one. It is such a funny vehicle. Yeah? Yeah. It is so small.
Starting point is 00:07:29 It's so small. My mom saw one for the first time and she got angry about it. She's like, I saw this car. It was so shiny. It looked like a box and it was, it was just, it was really ugly looking. I was like, what do you mean? She's like, it was just so shiny. I don't understand it. And so then I pulled up.
Starting point is 00:07:41 I'm like, was it this? Was this the car that hurt you? She's like, yes, that piece of shit. So I want to talk to you a little bit about Tesla, what's happening over there, the Cybertruck. But also there were some two stories about tech that I definitely wanted to get your input on because they intersect with a lot of things we talk about, like, you know, climate change and also the state of generative AI that we thought was going to be like total disruptor. I mean, Mort and I were just talking about, did you see the fan view AI beauty pageant that just went down? No. Oh, so there was this whole AI-generated beauty pageant thing that happened
Starting point is 00:08:15 and the aberration that was created that represented Morocco won $20,000. Okay, let's look this up. So AI beauty Pageant. Let's go look at these beautiful ladies. I am single. I hope one of these beautiful ladies will be my AI wife. They will if you go to FanView where subscribers can get access to exclusive content.
Starting point is 00:08:37 It was put on basically by the only fans of what they have. Oh, they look exactly like every AI-generated. There's a weird thing with AI generated people. Even taking away the fact they usually have 90 fingers. Right. They have this weird glassy look to them. Like they're not looking at the center of the camera. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Yeah, right. It's not dead-eyed, but there certainly is no spirit or soul behind the eyes. And these ones especially, they look alright right in photos but then when you watch the video it looks like it looks like a cyborg trying to learn american english yes like the gesturing is wild but it doesn't match the words at all yeah it looks like yeah it looks like the mouth and the body are being controlled by two different puppeteers
Starting point is 00:09:21 basically it's so good that we're, like, we boil an entire lake to create a picture of Garfield with huge knockers. And, like, that's the future for me. Yeah. That's what, that's why we do tech. How come you burnt up your earth? Well, I wanted to see what Joe Biden would look like as the
Starting point is 00:09:39 three-breasted woman from Total Recall. And, uh, that completely... I wanted to see the Philly fanatic with Joker makeup. Yeah. Right. But in an anime style. And three-dimensional. If I didn't see Marge Simpson in a miniskirt,
Starting point is 00:09:57 I wasn't going to make it to the rest of my day. Well, the thing is, there was already Simpsons erotic content out there. You know what I mean? That's a connoisseur. Yeah. I'm just saying, so those are the people whose jobs I'm worried about. These are artists.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Because human beings used to be making that. Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. Our greatest artists. Our greatest artisans. Absolutely. So, Ed, we're going to talk about that and plenty more.
Starting point is 00:10:18 But first, we have to ask you, since you are our guest today, what is something from your search history that's revealing about who you are, what you're into? Let's go take a look. Okay. Coming up, Rose's lyrics. So, Elliot Smith again. And then effective internet on GDP in early 90s. That tells you everything. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:10:40 The effect on GDP of the early internet? Yeah. The effect of internet on GDP in early 90s. Someone posted doing the internet of the early internet? Yeah. The effect of internet on GDP in early 90s. Okay. Someone posted, doing the internet in the early days. It doesn't actually, it also didn't affect anything. It absolutely did. We'll get onto the Goldman Sachs report, but none of this compares to the early internet.
Starting point is 00:11:01 Yeah. I'm just sorry. I know the song Coming Up R up rose but as i look at the lyrics of coming up roses by lee smith i'm a junkyard full of false starts and i don't need your permission to bury my love under this bare light bulb the moon is a sickle cell it'll kill you in time your cold white brother will ride in your blood like spun glass and sore eyes this so uh good and the cold white brother there is elliot smith he was a big rap fan yeah yeah the cold white brother yeah yeah he was in he was doing him and he had him and ll cool jay at the time we're trading diss tracks
Starting point is 00:11:38 oh my god they called him white kendrick that would could you imagine yeah it doesn't even make sense like i don't know i'm sure people would take that to like in a way yes i agree uh ed what's something you think is underrated stretching because i've yes my body up again what do you very briefly i didn't like i i managed it so last year i was doing great mentally and And so I just massively over-trained lifting and boxing and then couldn't work out for eight months. Holy shit. Because I just messed my arms up. I was also massively over-training.
Starting point is 00:12:12 And I didn't stretch before lifting. And I paid for it. I'm a big idiot. Yeah. Just a big, big, big dunce. I like that humble brag. It's like, dude, I was fucking working out so hard. Like I had to fucking shop.
Starting point is 00:12:25 It was so dumb, man. Wait, but how did you not, how did you get so serious about, like, fitness and then, like, just completely ignore, like, the tenets of, you know, good training? Oh, I was extremely depressed. Oh, okay. I was just, like, in a really bad way. Yeah. And, like, working out a ton made me feel less.
Starting point is 00:12:43 So, I'm like. Right. Alive. Just revealing my mental health to everyone on here. And now I'm on a good thing again, but I didn't stretch yesterday because I was a dumbass and feeling crunchy today. But I'll be fine. Hey, you know, be nice to my friend, Ed. You might like him when you get to know him.
Starting point is 00:13:00 That's what my therapist tells me. Put down the Elliot Smith. Put down the Elliotiot yeah not that he's not one of our great lyricists he is but you great you read these lyrics and you're like oh yeah the people that listen to this immediately need to go see a professional what's great it's hard the thing with elliot smith he killed himself tragically and it's like people like shocked at the time you listen to any of his lyrics you're like oh yeah how did he do the same thing with chris cornell sadly chris cornell like vividly described killing himself and people like shit he was depressed
Starting point is 00:13:31 it's where we're like we just thought those were funny songs man you know no one will do no one will do me in before i do myself like yeah that that's about like jacking off we thought it was a cute liberate world he's jacking off outside We thought it was a cute limerick. The outside world is jacking off outside. He's really into gooning. That's what that was about. Big goon. Not an Arsenal fan either. But okay. I'd like to ask you this one. Well, also, I've got to agree. Stretching.
Starting point is 00:13:55 I'm realizing I need to do more neck stretching because I'm so sedentary. A neck stretching thing now is so banging. Oh, yeah? You've got to send it to me. A resistance thing. Yeah, I'll send you stretching thing now is so banging. Oh yeah. Yeah. You got to send a resistance thing. Yeah. I'll send you a link. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:07 It's called like next level. It's so it's like, it's called the name. Yeah. No, that's excellent. Yeah. Because of an Instagram ad where Patrick Mahomes is using it.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Oh, it's a product. Yeah. And what's funny though is I bought it and i was like in my head insulting myself saying oh yeah you're just like patrick mahomes and then my trainer was like you do realize though that he also has a neck right yeah like he too has a neck and you have a neck and you both have the same neck muscles so in that sense yeah so in that sense this will help your neck. You will not become Patrick Mahomes. And I saw the ad again, and he is using the top-level extra pro thing. His neck must be just…
Starting point is 00:14:52 Oh, yeah, you got it. And not just any neck. I'm looking at the photos of this guy, and man, what a neck. Yeah, he looks like Dwayne The Rock Johnson fucked, let's see, Elijah Wood, I think. Like, he's a hot kid. Whoa, I do see it. You know what I'm saying? Beautiful eyes and that neck, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:15:12 But that voice. Yeah. Does he have a weird voice? He has like a Kenny Powers voice. Yeah. Ah. Like Southern? Oh, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:20 There was a video of him after the Super Bowl talking about the party that he was at after the Super Bowl. And someone cuts immediately to the Kenny Powers bit where he's going, yeah, we had the fucking Spoon Man. Yeah, the fucking Spoon Man. Fucking tiki torches and shit. And it's so close. Oh, shit. That was one of my favorite lines when he was talking about partying with the Spoon Man on Eastbound and Down. It's such a loser boast as well. Yeah like but such a good perspective into his worldview is like oh yeah i think the
Starting point is 00:15:50 apex of socializing is the spoon man from the fuck wow speaking of chris cornell he's like fucking out here being like yeah man i'm just hanging man spoon man fuck yeah that stevie little's character is maybe one of the greatest television characters of all time yeah oh yeah i never gave that show enough of a chance but i'm gonna do it it's gonna happen oh man oh hell yeah kenny pick up your damn fix fuck you ass blood he calls some guy ass blood. There's a character arc where he's like, he decides he wants to look different, so he starts getting all this surgery.
Starting point is 00:16:28 He gets a giant chin. He has ice blue contacts. It's hilarious and terrifying. I'm really going to watch this show again at home. It's wild. You guys ever see AP Bio? Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Now, I wish that show went a lot longer. Just Dennis being a teacher. Yeah. And he's horrible. Yeah. He's worse than Dennis. Just terrible. That dude, Mike O'Brien, that created that show,
Starting point is 00:16:53 he's like one of the great improvisers. I know him a little bit from Chicago. I'm not surprised he made a brilliant show. Other underrated thing, though. New metal. And I have a specific one. Okay. There was a band called OSI that did a cover of Elliot Smith's Christian
Starting point is 00:17:08 Brothers. And by the way, a new metal version of Christian Brothers is really bad news. Yeah. My therapist didn't just text me. Yeah. Hey, I got a notification about a song you're listening to.
Starting point is 00:17:21 And it's like, it's so, it's so good, but so like new metal it sounds like it should be on the commercial for a young adult book got that got made into a movie called like injustice 3 injustice it's so it's so good osi christian brothers it's so good but also just like oh boy what is good like i listened to it a lot and i was like it's not a good sign just a quick taste oh god that's so filthy i love it wow okay i'm hearing a little bit a little a little
Starting point is 00:17:54 late 90s emo guitar in there am i crazy no a little bit yeah it's it's very layered guitars yeah it's also just just cheesy in a way. One thing I learned good from a mental health, as proven by the music I listen to, is just being fine with sincere stuff. When I was younger, I got a little bit too down in the hole of being like, I must be cool. I can't mainstream stuff.
Starting point is 00:18:19 And now I'm completely the other way. I just watch whatever on TV. I'm like, this stuff, I'm like, oh, yeah, it's so shit. Oh, I'm a filthy little pig. Give me some new metal. Right. No, that's a sign of maturity. Like, I will straight up listen to Katy Perry now.
Starting point is 00:18:34 You know what I mean? Yeah. I like that shit. Also, wildly optimistic. Also good for your mental health. Just to like a blind optimism of some of that pop stuff. Oh, baby, you're a firework. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:18:44 It's your fire? Dude, let them know what you're worth. I was listening to a band called Spock's Beard that was very positive in that it's like 70s style, like 70s style, like psychedelic music. I was listening to it. I'm like, why am I listening to a happy song?
Starting point is 00:18:58 Yeah. And I went straight back to Christian Brothers. Oh, man. No, no, I listen. Spock's Beard. Listen to what you like, man. Listen to what you like. That's why, like, as you get older, you get off the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:19:08 Like, you like that fucking band? You like that show? You like that movie? You like that dude? It's like, dude, life is fucking miserable. You need to want to die at least twice. And then you're like, okay, sure. Oh, you're finding some joy?
Starting point is 00:19:21 Nice, dude. Keep it up for yourself. That's all you got. That's all you fucking have. Must be nice. Yeah. Oh, you're coming around to Oasis? You know what?
Starting point is 00:19:28 That's probably really fun for you, actually. No, Oasis, my only problem with them, other than I think their music's mediocre, is that I was very much part of the Blur camp. The Blur versus Oasis camp from the 90s. And Blur is just a better band, and I can prove it. And now the PowerPoint. But I'm not talking about'm not i'm not talking about better i'm not talking about no musical differently it's all right it's all just pop
Starting point is 00:19:51 shit all they did was internalize and rip off like a lot a lot of the beatles and a little bit of the kinks and internalize in such a way they make an incredible cover of i am the walrus too yeah did i mean for me i only really care about like maybe the like three songs that's on, you know, Morning Glory. What's the story? Morning Glory. And then after that, I'm not really aware of them aside from like the Gallagher brothers showing up at like Manchester City matches. QPR by Noel Gallagher. You did? Because I was in his way. Wow. Alright. I've been saying some stuff to him too. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Let's hand him out to an autograph from us. They also lost the game, so he was not pleased. This is back when Man City was crap. This was before they were purchased by Dubai. Yeah. This was back when QPR was quasi-competitive, so 20 years ago. Oh, like Adel Tarabt was like quasi-competitive, so like 20 years ago. Like when, oh, like, you know, Adel Chirapt was one of their great wingers.
Starting point is 00:20:49 I remember, very tricky winger for the Queensport Rangers. Queensport Rangers? Yeah. We didn't have a great winger back then. We'd lost Kevin Gallen. We had Les Ferdinand. He basically died. Oh, dude.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Fucking hell, what a miserable team. The lesser Ferdinand brother. That team killed me liking soccer. Oh, I was going to say, because I'm like, hold on now. Because I remember I was trying to get to the root of you, your sports thing. And now I know you died inside because of Queens Park Rangers. You don't. Imagine if you could see like 35 Raiders games a year and they were worse.
Starting point is 00:21:19 Right, right, right. And it was also, it was in a not great neighborhood. So every time you went down there, it was kind of like, I never got hurt or anything, but I worried about it. I think everyone did. Loftus Road is kind of a sketchy place. Loftus Road is not great. It's come a bit more upmarket these days.
Starting point is 00:21:37 This is where I grew up. It was fine. I grew up about a 15-minute walk down the road. It's hilarious how much of this conversation is gibberish to me, like you guys may as well be speaking Esperanto How much of that I taught and understood That's fine, we're here
Starting point is 00:21:55 We're here to talk that wild shit I just remember, wait Harry Redknapp I think managed KPR, didn't he? No, that was a long time after I stopped. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, well, that... Do we do...
Starting point is 00:22:09 Yeah, we also do Overrated, because I've got one. Oh, here we go. The Boys. It's Overrated. The Boys. The Show, The Boys. This season has been dog shit on top of it. It's lazy.
Starting point is 00:22:22 The last few seasons have been lazy. At first, it was like slight it was violent and gory but there were surprising moments yeah you're like oh they're exploring now it's like every episode they explode like 19 people and they even begin the episode with like clips of them exploding people and also i swear to god carla band's accent is worse and it was already pretty bad and i'm sure the defense is, this is a pastiche. I'm not offended by it. Wait, which actor is that?
Starting point is 00:22:49 Carla Band, the butcher, Billy Butcher. Oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because if he wants it to be a pastiche, he should go further. He should be more ridiculous. But right now, it's in this weird way. And what sucks is, it's like, he will say, say like West and East London things, which is just very weird. I grew up West London and the accent is different there. Sure.
Starting point is 00:23:13 And honestly can change depending on the area. East London is very specific and bleeds into the rest of London. You get a lot of East London slang and he will just say shit that doesn't make sense. Like what's a what's a Eastonism that that does your ear in he will be like it's fucking diabolical that's one of the better ones i've heard people say that but i'm trying to think of the examples because they're it's like trying to remember a gibberish sentence right right right yeah yeah oh he's got a bloody knockoff you know he's up with marvin and're like, what the fuck are you talking about, man? And the thing is,
Starting point is 00:23:46 if he wanted to go further, he should just go completely. He's like, this man's a tosspot and a tinpot. Like, life of a Brexit geezer style. Right, right, right. If you've not seen those videos, please watch them all.
Starting point is 00:24:00 Take George Football. No, I have to. They are my favorite. Wait, life of a Brexit Geezer sounds... Yeah, and it's... Life of a Brexit Geezer is amazing, by the way. That's the... If you've not watched it, it's a treat.
Starting point is 00:24:10 It's a series of memes with a... It's Back in Black by ACDC playing. And then it's a... Life of a Brexit Geezer. Oh, yeah. Wake up, meet the wife, Susan. There's my little princess. Isn't she lovely?
Starting point is 00:24:23 And they find the worst pictures of people in the world. Right, right, right, right. And it's like, pitch looking lovely today, lads. And it's just a brown field. It's like no grass and weeds. It's amazing. No, I have watched those more than I should. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:24:37 Okay. I had something to get into. And the boys does things very well sometimes. Like they've got the bloke that I can't remember the name of who was in The Walking Dead. Jeffrey something. I'm so bad at actors' names. Which character? Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Starting point is 00:24:56 Oh, oh, oh, Kessler. The guy's playing Kessler. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Absolutely fantastic. He's so good the whole time. He's such a schmaltzy actor. He's brilliant and coloban is just sounds like he's having a stroke during reading his lines because they're so
Starting point is 00:25:12 off and it's again no problem with making fun of british people they deserve it but get it right or go way over the top just right right come here are you going to be authentic or just bad because i think bad would be really funny yeah yeah that my favorite sort of kind of offensively silly british gibberish is like uh that toss part satis part pull of tiddlywankers like you're gonna go for it go for it yeah yeah yeah don't don't yeah it's like it's like anything when you start walking that tight rope of accuracy you, you're going to get people who are going to be able to figure you out and be like, ah, just look. I'm used to hearing it shitty. Just go all in on shitty.
Starting point is 00:25:50 But if you're going to try and trick me, then you need to put in more work, sir. Yeah. I watched The Lighthouse the other day. I hadn't seen that. It came out like two years ago, I think. And Robert Pattinson is not bad, but he's up against Willem Dafoe, who is incredible.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Right. You know what I mean? And Pattinson's accent is this very strange mix of mostly Irish and New York kind of back and forth. Sort of like you're talking about. It's a real weird move. And he's not bad, but the accent. Sugar. Sugar's the funny one with Colin Farrell.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Because he's meant to be like a hard-boiled detective. Yeah, I went to the bar to check. I checked out the bar with the beers. He's Irish. But it's so good, you don't mind. Yeah, right, right. That show, by the way, is amazing. Everyone should watch Sugar.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Do not spoil the end. Okay, good to know. Sorry, I'm just rambling. The Boys, tap it. it's a bit hotter uh check in with us after this break where we will dive down into the dregs of the tech world and economy right after this i've been thinking about you I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you.
Starting point is 00:27:10 Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110, 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out?
Starting point is 00:27:30 I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Starting point is 00:29:07 We're in our own world, remember? Right, in our own world. We're two space cadets. And totally normal humans. Sure, totally normal humans. Embark on a journey across the stars, discovering the wonders of the universe one episode at a time. We'll talk about life, love, laughter,
Starting point is 00:29:24 and why you should never argue with your co-pilot. Especially when she's always right. Right. And if we hit turbulence, just blame it on Mercury retrograde. Or Emily's questionable space piloting skills. Hey! Join us on In Our Own World for cosmic conversations, stellar laughs, and super corny dad jokes listen to in our own world as a part of the my cultura podcast network available on the iheart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts and don't worry we promise to avoid any black holes most of the time and we're back as i said up top ed or initially i was like we gotta have ed on i need to know
Starting point is 00:30:09 what's going on with tesla i need to know what's happening with the cyber truck and we are going to know we're going to talk about that in due time uh but there are since you are here i just didn't want to touch on two ai stories that popped up over the last week first we have google downplaying slash ignoring the energetic cost. And what I mean is the energy that is used to run AI. It almost, like, based on this report, it looked like they were not actually quantifying what the toll was on the environment for them to be running their AI program. It was sort of like, you guys must know. You guys must know.
Starting point is 00:30:43 And they're like, and, you know, who's to know exactly how we can measure that because clearly it runs afoul of their own stated efforts to be mindful about climate change and so like that it looked that felt like a bit of a cover-up would you say or how it turned out that they've actually increased their carbon emissions by 48 over the last five years, I think it was. I think it was Rachel Metz of Bloomberg who reported that, which is so good. It's so good that they did that. Now, just a little thing, though.
Starting point is 00:31:13 2019 was when they started this. So, hey, that was before generative AI. Not true. Large language models have been around a minute. But also, they've been plugging AI. They've been trying to do other AI things too. They just don't give a shit. And what's great is I think Microsoft were like 28% in the last few years.
Starting point is 00:31:32 Yeah, something else. It's so good. It's so good they're doing this. We need to boil the ocean. Right. For a big titty Garfield. Totally. Yeah, I can't wait till we lose a species of baboon just to make sure that we have like Thomas the Tank Engine, but a sexy lady.
Starting point is 00:31:47 But smoking blunts, man, for my new album cover on my SoundCloud. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I have to turn the guy from R.I.P. Bozo into a real human being. Right. Oh, God, though, someone was doing that with this AI generated videos thing. Really? though someone was doing that with this ai generated videos thing they did where it was like the woman the meme where the woman is turning it is like looking at her boyfriend because her boyfriend is looking at oh distracted one distracted girlfriend there you go flawlessly
Starting point is 00:32:14 described and they did they did like a video version it just looked insane like and they're like this is the future i know and i don know. Are these people recent concussion victims? Are they just insane? Well, look, do they know? It's because they've devoted a lot of time to creating this shit. So it has to be the future for them. Wait, so you tell me I post the little like there's like the one of like the evil little girl looking to camera with the burning house behind her you know that meme and then they animated that or like she then looks at the camera and then like a firefighter comes over and she's like nice to meet you and you're like what the
Starting point is 00:32:52 fuck what what is this like what i needed this is what was missing or like the the feature-length film of the dog and the house on fire with the this is just fine yeah right me i need that to be a two and a half hour drama i have no imagination i cannot imagine what an image means and also i need right and when i look at a meme i need to know the entire backstory and you know subsequent happenings and the contained within this visual narrative yeah i need hbo level true detective style production work. And I need a max level series of franchises to follow it. Right. Oh, now you're putting out some good ideas.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Oh, what's great, though, is all these AI people, they love to say like, yeah, I can finally watch Narcos with Travis Kelsey and Mr. Beast in it. It's like, yeah, that's... The fuck do you... Why do you watch television? Yeah. I watch TV so that I can control the television.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Yeah. No, it's all men trying to control the universe. That's what all this shit is. Yeah. I don't like that person. And I'm too scared to do psychedelics and trip in my own mind and figure shit out. So I will make the AI put Travis Kelsey in the boys. I need to give Ellen double D's because I'm incapable of meditating.
Starting point is 00:34:06 Right. I love it too, because it's not even like close to doing one of these things at all. Yeah. Like it's not even slightly close. You can't get up. Like you get like a half a minute long video that takes about 20 minutes. I've talked to people.
Starting point is 00:34:22 If you saw the open AI generative video thing. And you wait like 10 to 20 minutes for a three to 20 second video. And it will sometimes just have shit you didn't ask for. There were these guys who did a video about a guy with a balloon for a head. Thrilling. And every time they generated it, it was a different looking balloon.
Starting point is 00:34:40 And sometimes the balloon had a face on it. They never asked. They're like, no, the balloon is the head. it they never asked they're like no the balloon is the head no face the air is like yep yep balloon face got it got it balloon head right there what else man it's like they're mimicking how they deal with their significant others yeah all right yeah sure whatever fuck it here's the blue balloon head what else yeah fuck it i don't care i'll need to read the computer more. And it's so cool that this also costs so much.
Starting point is 00:35:10 It's just, I live in hell. Yeah. I look at this stuff and I'm just like, the fuck? Why are we doing this? Why? I mean, yeah, right. I mean, the huge part is that this has become the new thing to prop up the tech industry
Starting point is 00:35:22 and just bring in a ton of investment and say that this is the future and promise things that it cannot do. And, you know, as I think as listeners of the show have watched or listened, it went from me going like, holy shit, dude, it could fucking pass a medical exam to now after like interacting more with experts in the field being like, oh, it's right. That was that was the point of that early shit to get me to think like it's going to fuck the world. And it's really just a lot of chest puffing to try and get more investment. Which brings you to the second thing that happened.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Goldman Sachs, they had a report where they essentially said the thing. Most of people like you, Ed, and our past guests who have been, you know, very vocal doubters about the AI revolution have also said, there's like a blurb within this Goldman Sachs report about generative AI that's essentially, it's like, yeah, it's not that great. And also no financial upside, really. Hard to see that. So this report is like 31 pages and it came out June 25th. A guy called David, Jesus Christ, Jacob Silverman.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Okay. Wow. Javid. A.K.A. Javid. That's a cool name actually. He posted it a few days ago and I sat there on the day after July 4th, July 5th as it's known, and printed it out, read it on like physical, and just sat there pissing myself laughing. Because there is a bit in it with this guy called Jim Covello, who is a head of global equity research at Goldman Sachs.
Starting point is 00:36:54 And this guy just sits there and goes, no, this is stupid, this is bad. There's a whole bit where he talks about people, a lot of the defenses of AI, they're like, well, the early days of the internet were very expensive yeah and he's like that's not true people point i'll read out quote for you people point to the enormous cost decline in service within a few years of their inception in the late 90s but the number of 64 000 sun microsystem servers required to power the internet technology transition in the late 90s pales in comparison to the number of expensive chips required to power the ai transition today even
Starting point is 00:37:29 without including the replacement of the power grid and he just and this guy i'd never heard of him before he's been doing this decades there are articles from like nine years ago saying yeah jim's been our number one analyst since 2009. And he called Intel early when Intel was going through bad shit. He used to be a semiconductors reporter. He even adds that this is the best part on this thing. He's saying people say, oh, yeah, people didn't predict smartphones. And he said, actually, I sat through thousands of presentations predicting smartphones in the 2000s.
Starting point is 00:38:04 Right. And they pretty much match to exactly. Actually, I sat through thousands of presentations predicting smartphones in the 2000s. Right. And they pretty much match to exactly. He even says, yeah, we all thought GPS was going to be in a phone. We all thought that was going to happen, but it wasn't cheap enough yet. And he said, no such roadmap exists for AI. And there are multiple other people in it. There's a guy called Asimoglu from MIT.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Let's see. Yeah. Daron Asimoglu from MIT. Let's see. Yeah. Darren Asimoglu. He's an institute professor at MIT. His whole thing is just saying, yeah, it's not going to have much effect on productivity or GDP. Everyone's estimates are stupid. They just sit there and they're ruthless. Yeah. And they go through them.
Starting point is 00:38:38 And I just put out a newsletter about this. And it's crazy because Goldman Sachs,s no soul not a soul in that building right they're not doing this because they're like we need to let people know no they're doing it so that they can get this was a report i don't know how this was distributed it wasn't sent out to the media right it was just sitting there and what's wild is this was probably sent out to people just saying yeah i would just start i and it even says where to put your money as well it's like it's talking about how you should keep investing for now but this has got maybe 12 to 18 months which i think is optimistic and it's just brutal
Starting point is 00:39:16 because it's one thing i've said it a lot i said it in like march i was saying this kind of thing but i am a guy like i'm just a guy. I run a PR firm. I do a podcast. This guy is decades of analysts. The MIT guy is a very well-known professor. Sorry, I missed that quote. No, I was just doing
Starting point is 00:39:38 some promo. I said, better offline. He's subliminally pushing stuff. Where's your ad at? The newsletter? Where's your ad at? Shout out Basement Jax. Shout out Rudy. But what's great about it as well is the bit where there's an interview with Microsoft's former VP of Energy, and he's just like, yeah, we need to build a new
Starting point is 00:39:53 power grid. We need a new one. We need a new one. And by the way, America really isn't capable of doing this. Wow. It's kind of infrastructure stuff. Yeah, it's just for stuff that that no one wants and is not good for people like and there's a bit where jim cavello even says it's a trillion it's going to cost a trillion dollars to get this done
Starting point is 00:40:18 and there's no trillion dollar problem it solves and it needs to solve complex problems and it can't just it can't he doesn't go like it could he's just like no it can't i mean it's not yeah it's not gonna happen it feels like with this like to have the wall street money be like i don't know about this yeah that feels a bit like the reckoning is now upon us um and like i mean how will sort of the lack of confidence in generative ai from a huge player like Goldman Sachs, like affect things because I feel like normally in another industry, like the industry would respond with some new shiny product. But the last few new shiny things the AI industry has trotted
Starting point is 00:40:56 out have fallen like woefully short or ended in drama with Scarlett Johansson. So I'm like, is there is there any kind of rebuttal from the industry like how do they kind of keep the ball moving i get that some people are trying to be a little bit revisionist i mean like well this happened with other things that were early on that entirely changed our economy but this feels i don't know like well and also jim cavello quite literally goes after the specific points where people say well in the past it's like it's not what happened in the past right he calls it revisionist history he's he's just completely it's like neo at the end of the matrix it's kind of beautiful oh where he pulls the bullet out of
Starting point is 00:41:36 the air just stuff well that but also just the one-handed knocking of the punches oh yeah and he's being like yo yeah yeah and because cavello doesn't give a shit he's probably insanely well paid to be good at this and actually is literally a month ago goldman was saying oh yeah ai could grow we're optimistic yeah but they have they have too many analysts and this guy's the head and it confirms my biases so i'm going with this guy but with with this movement it's very strange so i wrote a piece a couple like a month or so ago called the rock on bubble biggest problem that tech has right now is it doesn't have any hyper growth markets it hasn't had any for a while if you actually look back it's
Starting point is 00:42:15 like 2015 at the latest that it ran out of ideas and what was that idea well that was around the time of smart watches oh okay smart watches connected fitness right smart home as well smart home was big 2010s thing they were this is going to be huge and it was huge yeah but then you buy the two things you need and it's over but not like cloud compute e-commerce the actual big movements and there hasn't been one for a while so you've seen things like crypto crypto i actually put to the side because crypto was not adopted by a lot of the tech industry just a lot of venture capitalists metaverse ar augmented reality vr these things popped up and they were like okay these are the future now and i think it's because none of the people at the top actually
Starting point is 00:43:01 use products or build anything they're're all management consultants. Almost every tech company is poisoned with MBAs. But on top of that, the AI boom is very scary for them because it's been so successful hype-wise. It's got so much attention. Yeah. And they've told so many lies. They've lied so much about it. They've said it can do things in the future that it literally cannot do right there is no situation where generative ai is going to become uh the
Starting point is 00:43:32 kind of oh is it artificial general intelligence they call it right that's consciousness it's a math machine it's a very complex math machine but that's all it is it's a computer yeah it's gonna take a minute for this bubble to burst because they've all doubled and tripled down but what i think's gonna change it is two things number one i think a big ai company's gonna go tits up i think there's gonna be someone like kahir who was it kahir they made an ai powered software engineer that they actually had to fake the demo for you look behind the scenes with most of these things. So many mechanical Turk ass fucking scams that they trot out and be like, no, it's doing it.
Starting point is 00:44:09 It's a fucking dude behind a curtain. This wasn't even a dude. They just didn't. They just faked it. The video just faked it. Oh, like just all scraped the video. There it is. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:19 And a guy, a software engineer just cut between it. It's like, no, you see that the time moves. It was fucking great. So one of those companies is going to go tits up and when that happens that's going to scare the venture capitalists and then they're going to push their startups they're invested in to start selling i also think character ai is another one they raised 150 million dollars from andreessen horowitz so that you can talk to satoru gojo from jujitsu kaizen in a chat bomb hell yeah dude wow well i mean it's
Starting point is 00:44:46 not like that fucking manga comes out very often anyway um yeah sorry going around there but also at any time in the next few quarters i believe the market will go okay so we love that you're spending hundreds of billions of dollars on nothing have you made any money no and if you look in the recent earnings, every single company is like, yeah, AI revenue is going to be incremental. It's going to take a minute, but you know the future is good, right?
Starting point is 00:45:15 And at some point, the market is going to say, hey, why no money come out? Why no growth come out? Why not growing? Me likey money. Me wishy money now. But me is no c money and what's going on they probably have two three more quarters but i think like two this can only go so on oh go on so far
Starting point is 00:45:35 yeah at some point they have to be like there's no money coming they're like fuck it get miles dyson out here we're doing skynet man we gotta let him know and it all goes back to a guy called jack welch you should look up jack welch did a whole thing with the shareholder supremacy last Miles Dyson out here. We're doing Skynet, man. We gotta fucking let him know. And it all goes back to a guy called Jack Welch. You should look up Jack Welch. He did a whole thing called the Shareholder Supremacy last week. Is he of the Welch's great family? No. No, he's talking about G-E-O.
Starting point is 00:45:54 G-E-C-E-O Jack Welch. Yes. The one who, the man, great book called The Man Who Destroyed Capitalism by Derek Gellis. David Gellis. Jesus. I wish he was the great man. I want to hear from the great man, but keep going. But basically that man taught the world of capitalism
Starting point is 00:46:10 how it is today. Please. It's like an 11,000 word newsletter. But nevertheless, everything has come down to a point when all of these tech companies are built to show growth and build for growth.
Starting point is 00:46:21 They're not built to build stuff. People want, all of them are run by MBAs. Mark Zuckerberg, fun fact about Mark Zuckerberg, one of the defenses of Mark Zuckerberg is he's a coder, right? He's the guy who coded Facebook.
Starting point is 00:46:37 You want to know when he stopped coding? 2006. Oh. My man has not coded for 18 years. Facebook is a mess. He doesn't give a shit. But I think also Meta is one of the weakest ones. I think Meta is probably one that's going to have trouble.
Starting point is 00:46:55 But I think if anyone's going to get their ass reamed for this whole generative AI thing, it's Microsoft. Microsoft and Google. But Microsoft primarily because they're spending so much on build-outs. They have become Oracle's biggest customer because Oracle builds data centers. I learned that very recently and it bothers me. We're all looking at this and I think, honestly, it's just getting bad. I just think most people realize how bad it is. Most people are pissed off about this and most people would love it if AI actually
Starting point is 00:47:25 was useful, maybe not taking their jobs. Oh, another part of the Goldman Sachs report, by the way, is then repeatedly, because remember, these people not particularly so, they don't care. They care about money. They're just like, yeah, and it can't even replace any fucking jobs. They're just like, it doesn't replace jobs.
Starting point is 00:47:42 But it's a fine argument in the sense that if this was actually the future, don't want doesn't replace jobs but it's a fine argument in the sense that if this was actually the future don't want it to replace jobs but yeah if it was capable of doing that that would make it worth all this shit right well it's good it would be good for the ultra rich and a dystopian it would be terrible for everyone else yep but also they want you to believe that it's so fucking insane just when i i feel crazy when i read this stuff because you read this and then you look at these companies like google putting ai in search which nobody liked yeah and told people to eat rugs and put glue on pizza everyone knows that but
Starting point is 00:48:16 their stock went up their stock went up when they did that yeah and it's just we live in a looney tunes world yeah where it's like yeah a few buzzwords and a few investors of note get involved and it's like, yep, the line goes up now and we don't need any proof. Yeah. Did you say vertical integration? Here's $30 million. That's all you had to do. That's why I like SoftBank. Have you heard of SoftBank?
Starting point is 00:48:39 Yeah. So SoftBank, Japanese venture firm, they just give shit tons of money to the work they gave like billions to uh adam from we work yeah and at one point adam took a loan out on his we work stock for like oh i think it was like over 100 million dollars and then defaulted on it because the only thing he put up as collateral was his WeWork stock, which was now worth like $20,000. And SoftBank was like, well, that'll happen. That's an L. I love Masayoshi-san.
Starting point is 00:49:11 I think he's amazing. He goes up to you and you're like, I need $3 billion. He's like, no, you need $5 billion. And I got it right here. Take it now. Oh, yeah, babe. I need to invest this.
Starting point is 00:49:21 Yeah. He's like, we're not called HardBank, baby. This is going to be soft. And then Masayoshi-san, I know we've gone on about this, he said that he'd been put on Earth to create an intelligence. He fucking, yeah, he was put on Earth
Starting point is 00:49:35 to create artificial intelligence, super intelligence that's 10,000 times smarter than a human. I am super serious about it. I love him. That's the thing. If you're going to be like this, be that. Be crazy.
Starting point is 00:49:46 Go all in. Go all in. Be the supervillain we desire. Throw caution to the wind. All right. Well, we're going to come back and we're going to talk about another stock where the line just went up. And I need to know why. Because I thought it wasn't good.
Starting point is 00:49:57 That's Tesla. Right after this. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life it's too late for that I have a proposal for you come up here and document my project all you need to do is record everything like you always do one session
Starting point is 00:50:19 24 hours BPM 110 120 she's terrified should we wake her up? absolutely not 24 hours. BPM 110, 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out?
Starting point is 00:50:33 I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Señora Sex Ed is not your mommy sex talk. This show is la plática like you've never heard it before. We're breaking the stigma and silence around sex and sexuality in Latinx communities. This podcast is an intergenerational conversation between Latinas from Gen X to Gen Z. We're covering everything from body image to representation in film and television.
Starting point is 00:51:27 We even interview iconic Latinas like Puerto Rican actress Ana Ortiz. I felt in control of my own physical body and my own self. I was on birth control. I had sort of had my first sexual experience. If you're in your señora era or know someone who is, then this is the show for you.
Starting point is 00:51:48 We're your hosts, Diosa and Mala, and you might recognize us from our flagship podcast, Locatora Radio. We're so excited for you to hear our brand new podcast, Señora Sex Ed. Listen to Señora Sex Ed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Do you ever wonder where your favorite foods come from? on the iHeartRadio app, Apple push record, right? Okay. And this season, we're taking an even bigger bite out of the most delicious food and its history. Saying that the most popular cocktail is the margarita, followed by the mojito from Cuba,
Starting point is 00:52:34 and the piña colada from Puerto Rico. So all of these... We have, we think, Latin culture. There's a mention of blood sausage in Homer's Odyssey that dates back to the 9th century B.C. B.C.? I didn't realize how old the hot dog was. Listen to Hungry for History as part of the My Cultura podcast network,
Starting point is 00:52:53 available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back uh and yes ed another stock i felt like a few months ago on the show we were talking about how the stock stock price for tesla the performance has not been great there was a flood of like well the sales are short and then like elon got his pay package and then everyone's like yes he's back baby and the last few like, yes, he's back, baby. And the last few weeks have seen a huge increase. One headline said it like wiped out all losses. They're in the green for the first time in 2024. And this is because Elon Musk is a genius, correct?
Starting point is 00:53:37 It's because he's Jack Welch, too. He is basically like the great guy. Not the guy that the Alec Baldwin character from 30 Rock was based on. In Harvard, I was voted most. Yeah. But the thing is,
Starting point is 00:53:57 their deliveries are still down. They beat Wall Street estimates, but they were still down 4.8% year-over-year. But the stock is like $250 now. It's a meme stock. And I don't think... I think it's impressive
Starting point is 00:54:13 how bad it is at this point. It's so horrible. It's like watching a very bad person win again and again and again. Yeah, truly. But also, even though they voted his stock package through, the Delaware court still made it clear that it was not, like, things will change.
Starting point is 00:54:32 I just don't know when anymore. Tester is just so fucking bizarre. I bet Google and Meta are so jealous of him because it's just disconnected from all reality. 100%. I mean, speaking of, like, you you know promising shit and never delivering on it like what's going there's like this there's a new sort of self-driving update and a lot of people like yeah baby it's gonna happen but this has never fucking happened still and the the fleet
Starting point is 00:55:00 of robot taxis that you could lease passively in your sleep while you make passive income while you're catching Zs. That's nowhere to be found. And I'm just always, it just blows my mind how, I mean, it's definitely, definitely cult-like because they're the detract, there aren't really the detractors who are vocal kind of get cast aside. And there's so many people who are like, it's okay, man, that this thing fucking sucks. Like the cyber truck fucking sucks. It's okay, man, that this thing fucking sucks. Like, the Cybertruck fucking sucks. Objectively, it fucking sucks. Like, I took it to a car wash.
Starting point is 00:55:31 It fucking got fucked up. My control panel fell off. The fucking side panels fall off. The charging issues, I can't get the charger out. It broke my finger, and it accelerates when it wants to. Yeah, exactly. I drove into a house on accident. Yeah, it's just, it's very weird. And there is no stock out there like it.
Starting point is 00:55:51 But also, it's up today. I maintain. This shit will burn. They are, tech is out of ideas. And so is Elon Musk. The Cybertruck is ridiculous. It looks like shit. It's small.
Starting point is 00:56:04 It's a terrible truck. Terrible car. Terrible car. It's a terrible deal. Yeah. It doesn't even pay off on its promise of being a truck. Like, there's so many hilarious things I've seen on Reddit where, like, someone's like, you couldn't even put a bicycle flat into the back. Yeah, you couldn't put a bike in it.
Starting point is 00:56:18 You couldn't put a Christmas tree in. What the fuck is this? My favorite one is this guy who was like, yeah, took my truck to Home Depot and he got, like, four bags of mulch. Oh, I too yeah there you go like like soil and someone was supporting with i did this in my toyota corolla yeah exactly as a guy who likes cars i could say we're very dumb and it is all about like me want to be seen in vroom vroom machine like i just want something that looks like a ferrari or something yeah or a hot wheels yeah exactly so yeah for sure but the interns don't really make yeah yeah but i'm just saying if it's if you like the aesthetic of the wow factor of the
Starting point is 00:56:56 truck which you you know being sure a nine-year-old uh it's it's that's all you need you know what i'm saying homer simpson yeah yeah for sure yeah right right yep if you're homer simpson who thinks whatever hackers from the late 90s thought was cool is cool yeah well that's what like that's what's wild is there there's just such a pattern of bullshit and yet like like to your point ed it's like the guy keeps fucking how like that not a single thing he's promising is happening and people are still willing to like make all these excuses for why the cyber truck isn't actually in an l on four wheels and they're just like don't worry man just what happens and now there's like some new thing about they're not
Starting point is 00:57:36 calling it a recall but they're saying they're going to change the motors and some of the early cyber trucks and i'm like what the fuck is this? point they're going to run out of electricity i was about to say gas right because there aren't any new things with tesla deliveries are slowing down yeah the actual fundamentals of this stock are not brilliant on top of that elon musk may or may not do a bunch of fucking ketamine right also a lot of his companies are very unprofitable tesla's actually profitable it's just very weird because this crap works until it doesn't he's just very good at keeping it going yeah it's 250 bucks now it was like something else like it was like 180 or something like a few weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:58:48 It's just at some point the worm turns. I'm just no idea where it's going to fucking happen anymore. Yeah. I thought it would be by now. I hoped it would. Partly because it'd be entertaining. But also he's a shithead. Yeah. He's a fucking asshole.
Starting point is 00:59:00 He's so annoying. He has all of this money. And he's like, yes it's a very epic and based post the 14 words and oh jesus yeah right 14 he retweets them yeah yeah right and he's like got twitter which is just burning money just constantly burning money spacex is funny though because people say oh yeah they're profitable no they're playing fucking accounting games that they're not really like there's a wall street journal piece about this it's a wall street journal piece about just fucking random woman
Starting point is 00:59:29 at tesla and spacex as well this man's a goblin it's like everything is so unlikable it's so upsetting and then i saw did you there's this so they had one of the like head lead engineers like a while ago and they were trying to create all the hype for the Cybertruck. He went on like Jay Leno's garage, like YouTube channel. And there's this clip where he's talking about the side mirrors. And he's like, we didn't even want side mirrors on this thing. I'm just going to play this because it's like to me, I'm like, wait, hold on. How exactly does Tesla do things?
Starting point is 01:00:02 How exactly does Tesla do things? And so Jay is like, the question he's asking this engineer is like, were there any things that like you wanted that just got like completely shot down? Like what were some other like bold design choices you made? And this is him talking about the side mirrors, the side view mirrors. Yeah. I mean, we didn't want mirrors. Right.
Starting point is 01:00:22 And so in the beginning, we weren't even designing mirrors. I like how Jay Leno goes, huh? And he goes, we didn't even want mirrors. like how jay leno goes huh and he goes we didn't even want mirrors he goes oh just that part is so funny i'm playing again we didn't want mirrors right and so in the beginning we weren't even designing mirrors and then just we couldn't get the regulations changed yeah okay did you hear that so he goes and you know we couldn't get the regulations changed so you know we had to put him in so i'm like it's half of their the way they ideate is sort of like well can we get the laws changed so we can like get this harebrained shit onto the car yeah it's like powerpoint deck one break the law power back but what if we've we just changed it yeah and then that never works
Starting point is 01:01:06 right and paid enough money to change the legislation which is what they're assuming they're going to be capable of doing which they probably you know it's just surprising that they weren't able to because i was saying like all car designers forever they've wanted to get rid of side mirrors like all aesthetically all cars car designers feel that they look like weird ears coming off the cars so like these but know, like, oh, and also we have to have mirrors. But the hubris of these dudes is the same kind of hubris that is like,
Starting point is 01:01:32 oh, we're actually not going to die. We decide we're going to upload our consciousness and totally defeat mortality. You know what I mean? This is the level of presumptive hubris that we're dealing with. They just don't drive. I genuinely think these people just take cabs everywhere.
Starting point is 01:01:49 That tracks at a certain level of wealth. People just don't drive. It's the theme across everything we're talking about. Sundar Pichai of Google doesn't use Google. Satya Nadella of Microsoft. Oh, fuck. I put my thumb up and now the Zoom video...
Starting point is 01:02:04 Now, keeping this in, I just want to tell the listeners what's happening. It throws your fucking video screen. in a dealer of microsoft oh fuck my thing i put my thumb up and now the zoom video now we're keeping this in i just want to tell the listeners what throws your fucking video screen i i have a video stream right now this is an important ai related thing that proves my larger point so if you raise your thumb in front of the camera now on zoom it does a weird pop-up bubble of a thumbs up and then it freezes your video through the power of AI. Yeah, mine won't do mine. And that's exactly the shit that someone would, like Eric Yuan, CEO of Zoom, or any number of people at Microsoft or Google who don't use their products and think, that sounds great.
Starting point is 01:02:35 That's awesome. What if on top of showing my thumb, thus giving the thumbs up, it also showed my another thumb? Yeah, but animated. But this is the problem across all of this right elon musk doesn't drive anywhere google sandra pashai doesn't google anything sachin adela doesn't use fucking microsoft word he probably sends outlook like emails but that's about it right none of these people interact with the economy with labor they don't do work they don't do anything so like of course they're yeah, I don't need fucking mirrors on a car, you asswipe.
Starting point is 01:03:09 Right. You don't need to see behind you. That's what my driver's for. Right. Exactly. Yeah, this thing can go off-road. Cut to, it cannot really go off-road. Yeah, he said it could double as a boat.
Starting point is 01:03:20 Right. Elon Musk. And then, like, someone's Tesla Cy truck got uh totaled because he drove it through a very small puddle of water yeah it didn't even actually reach like the door i saw like where they showed where the water reached like it didn't even really even get in the not even close and like the insurer's like yeah dude we're not fucking we're not touching this thing sorry it's so cool yeah i love all of it well and now like you see too a lot of cyber truck owners there's like a bunch of stuff too or they're like this is how you remove your side view mirrors from your fucking Cybertruck.
Starting point is 01:03:49 And I'm like, that's a great idea. Your 7,000 pound missile car now has no. Sure. Because it just looks cooler, man. When I mount my 50 cal machine gun in the back with my big American flag. And you see a lot of people doing this. Like, it's just interesting, too. Like, it also has an appeal to people who are also not quite living in the same reality as us. Like
Starting point is 01:04:08 you see so many people who are like putting like they're wrapping it to look like a world war two fucking fighter plane or someone mounting a machine gun and having like a gigantic American flag because it looks like a meme they saw. And they're like, and that's what it does, man. It's a meme. It's a terrible car and i hurt my thumbs uh trying to load in some kibble so thanks elon yeah it's so good and i love that this guy is a billionaire that's good as well yeah yeah there are times you get a little bit black pilled when you think about this stuff too much right yeah i mean it's it i know it's hard especially again like you said you're watching someone who's an evildoer just continue to compound financial wins and you're like i don't
Starting point is 01:04:52 i but again that's how the game is set up so if you know at a certain point you can yeah yeah it's it's inherently competitive so those that cheat win here's my thing is i really do feel you guys probably won't agree with this but i feel like being that rich is a wild burden and terrible for your for your spiritual life that it's like because think about this way like if i don't if i have very little money what is required to make me happy all it takes is a shower orange that's it i just need one peach to take into the shower with me but if i'm wildly rich and i'm used to spending millions of dollars, the amount of money I have to spend to get more new, exciting sensory information is cocaine, ketamine and a couple of sex workers who have to do stuff that is not even sex anymore. You know what I'm saying? HGH and more hair transplants.
Starting point is 01:05:37 Constantly. You watch what happens with these people, too, which is the profound lack of maturity, the Internet behavior of a 13-year-old who's like, yeah, what if I tweeted the word queef? Can you imagine? At 420. Yeah, dude. It would be pretty funny. It's absurd. Yeah. You know?
Starting point is 01:05:56 So I'm so grateful that I don't have that amount of money. We're real. We're real. Hand it over to me and I'll tell you how it goes yeah sure but also i agree i actually think when you because the thing about someone like elon musk mark zuckerberg sandra pesci sandra pesci got paid 220 million dollars to fuck up google in 2002 sorry 2022 these guys they don't have bills right they don't wake up in the morning worrying about anything. They could get fired that day, get nothing in return, and have probably $50 to $100 million of liquid capital and a bunch of assets and probably walk into another job the same day.
Starting point is 01:06:46 They don't have trouble getting introduced to people they don't need to worry about career progression they don't need to worry about anything all of the things that a person worries about and pretty much any income level are just concepts to them and problems that you have are things that they can mitigate in pretty much every way Elon Musk could probably look better than he does he just chooses not to which is very funny but it's I think when you think of it like that like it does sound like hell but at the same time give me the money give it to me I will be smart enough I'm smart enough to know what I don't know. I'm down for that, Ed. I'll, I'll, I'll support you getting a couple bill,
Starting point is 01:07:27 but also on, on top of that, all these CEOs, and this is such a cheesy thing to say, force them into therapy. You can't be the CEO of one of these companies without like three hours of therapy a week, hour and a half beginning. Or just,
Starting point is 01:07:39 or, you know, just cap the fucking, the, the wages that you can get as CEO and then, you know, leave it there. But Ed, I got to thank you for stopping by and just making me feel even better about my Heritage Series or Foundation Series Cybertruck that's going to be delivered later today.
Starting point is 01:07:58 I've seen that. That's beautiful. All those eagles on there really look great. It's a beaut, dude. Got to say. It's a beaut. Got Conan right there on the hood. Leave some of the woman for the rest of us, man. Yeah. Oh, yeah, dude. Gotta say. It's a beaut. Got Conan right there on the hood. Leave some of the woman for the rest of us, man.
Starting point is 01:08:07 Yeah. Oh, yeah, dude. I will. I will. But anyway, thank you so much for joining us on the Daily Zyke, guys. Starting point is 01:08:43 Is there a work of social media or otherwise that you have been enjoying enjoying so there is a tweet which i will get you the link of at some after the thing where someone tweeted and i i'm paraphrasing here but it was like i saw your man crashing his flying machine in the town square your man was saying confound it and drat or something like that it's just it's it's a wonderful tweet oh shit yeah i saw that one too who was it also um one another thing i've been laughing at which is necessarily funny is ipad underscore latino so that sent saint yugira who has had a very strange turn, posted, going to debate the omniliberal and Wolf Frieden on Biden staying in or dropping out.
Starting point is 01:09:28 Brianna Wu is on my side for dropping out. I have never heard a conversation I wanted to hear less. Yeah. Jesus. It's between that and 10 minutes of people punching dogs. Yeah. It's tough. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:43 The only Destiny I'm interested in was a Microsoft product the only destiny I care about was destiny 2 but then I guess that was Bungie
Starting point is 01:09:51 technically right Bungie I'm by Sony Playstation now see how the mighty fall

Starting point is 01:11:28 And, uh, at Glamino tweeted me and said, you mean like this bag in Australia, we call it the bachelor's handbag. So perfect to call the chicken. It's the bachelor's handbag. Love the Aussies.
Starting point is 01:11:45 You always, always given us something to laugh about. And another tweet I like is from at Tradwife2049 tweeted, You've just ordered Pizza Hut and a two-liter Mountain Dew. You've loaded up RuneScape on your PC. No school tomorrow. Your parents don't care if you stay up all night long. A perfect summer night. You are 41 years old.
Starting point is 01:12:05 The year is 2024. That's just a legitimate tweet. That's not a joke. That's just, yeah. That's happening. Look, I get it. That happened to me yesterday. No, it sounds great.
Starting point is 01:12:17 Look, we see ourselves. We see ourselves and we honor them. Mort, did you find that tweet that you were liking? Yeah, I got a hot one from Will Fennett. will strike tim i would strike timothy chalamet out on three pages slider outside he feels like he's drowning curveball in the dirt of course he's chasing it lady board ladybird sucked kill yourself and bang 97 inside corner you're out you were always out you've been out since the day you were born. No, there is a TikTok version of this. That is one of the best.
Starting point is 01:12:50 Will Sennett is also one of the funniest guys alive. But also, he has one where he does this. And he's a very threatening looking guy. Like he just, he, part of his comedy is that he looks a little bit. He's a lovely fella. Has a very good podcast called A Closer Look as well. But he does that one. And he has an amazing one about princess diana where he just starts around he's like princess diana i can't
Starting point is 01:13:09 give you much you could move to the beautiful city of cincinnati ohio and you could have two children called like chris or gunner or something and you know we could see the cincinnati bangles who should be good and he just goes on this insane protractor rant about the Bengals.
