And if we don't know the answer, we bring in people who do, like negotiation expert Maury Tahiripour. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. Every great player needs a foil. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Listen to the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese on the iHeart on the iheart radio app apple podcast or wherever you
Starting point is 00:01:25 get your podcast presented by elf beauty founding partner of iheart women's sports hello the internet and welcome to this episode of the weekly zeitgeist uh these are some of our favorite segments from this week all edited together into one uh non-stop infotainment laughstravaganza. So without further ado, here is the weekly zeitgeist. Hey, who's that voice? That voice is someone we are thrilled to be joined in our third seat. A hilarious stand-up comedian, actor actor musician with a 7.6 rated album on pitchfork uh you can listen to his podcast cold brew got me like anywhere fine
Starting point is 00:02:11 podcasts are given away for free his new book the advice king anthology is available now anywhere fine books are sold the poetry window is open because it's chris motherfucking crofton what's up what's up i'm so happy i'm so happy to be here i'm gonna clear my throat hold on i know you've been saying your other podcast it's just i'm not kidding my cold brew got me like clear my throat is what my fucking show should be called and we got to do something about it question you said when you clear your throat what is it what is it achieving is it that you're trying to knock something loose it's that you're scratching a throat it's well what walking through your throat just trying to get the the attention of the room i don't know certainly not but i think
Starting point is 00:02:56 i don't think that's helping the look of like older white men when they do that because it does seem like that's what they're doing but I think most of the time it's just something's fucking caught. And it sucks. Flemmy. And yeah, it's not good. It's not good on a first date. It's not good. It's not good on any.
Starting point is 00:03:16 It's not good for a single man to be running around clearing his throat. It's the opposite of what a woman wants. A woman wants moisture. Put it on a t-shirt. Put it on a t-shirt. A woman wants people to be flexible and ready for action. Not dried out and fucking standing. I'll help you with the stroller as soon as I'm done doing... I'll be right there to help you with the baby.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Real bad phlegm. Why does daddy make a scary noise i don't know he's too old i should never have married him daddy sounds like an old radiator is daddy trying to command the room again i never fully i the the movie big fish uh the tim burton movie like the main character the dad the, the legend dead character, uh, repeatedly keeps saying as an old man, I was just dried out, uh,
Starting point is 00:04:10 when they would like find him in a pond. I don't really remember that movie that well, but I remember that line because I was so baffled by like, were they like trying to make it a thing like a quote? Because he says it multiple times, I think, um, like a slug.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Yeah. Maybe it was just a very realistic portrayal of aging you know i mean it like you can look at the pictures of miles i'm looking at a screen right now because we're doing this via zoom so i'm looking at two moist dudes miles over here yeah miles and jack both look like you know there's not going to be an emergency situation where they you know can't not gonna be an emergency situation where they you know can't get to the fire exit because they're clearing their throat and in the middle there's me and i look fucking dry before we start recording the last thing i say is the cords are dewy let's get it let's get it on exactly i said every time yeah it's like you guys are a couple of wet boys and i'm like wow dry wet boys yeah so anyway
Starting point is 00:05:07 yes it's kind of a thing like uh i just uh do everything sort of like uh without preparation in a way like i mean like i just i'm not it doesn't occur to me like oh you should really like clear your throat a bunch before this fucking podcast but then yesterday it got out of hand the one that we're putting up tonight uh the new episode of Cobra Gamut, which is so fucking good. Like, we really have gotten hit our stride. It's funny, man. Today was the most recent one that we're putting up tonight. It's the funniest one we've ever done.
Starting point is 00:05:34 Oh, it's so fucking fun. I mean, it's insane. But the labor that went into de-throat clearing. But we had to, like, I had to, like, edit it. There's just, like, a lot of noises on there, you know? And I was just like, that is not, you know, like, I can't. We got to edit it. There's just a lot of noises on there. I was just like, that is not... I can't. We've got to do something. I don't know if there's a filter called
Starting point is 00:05:49 the old... It's called Wet Boy. What are you putting your mic through? You've got to be putting that through a wet boy pedal. Yeah, exactly. The moisturizer. Vocal moisturizer? So anyway, we're working on it. People who are fans of the show pedal yeah exactly the moisturizer yeah yeah exactly yeah i got what vocal moisturizer yeah so anyway we're working on it people are fans of the show you know and we have a lot of crossover
Starting point is 00:06:11 a lot of our fans are fans of you guys of course and so you know just we're working on it don't don't if your objection was too dry yeah they're working on it we're working on them i'm getting i'm getting my neck worked on. Pre-show medical procedure. Yeah. Polite medical procedure. I mean, it happens pretty quick, too. Like, you know, it's just one minute you never clear your throat. The next minute, you know, you're fucking clearing your throat.
Starting point is 00:06:36 That's all you're doing. Seriously, there is nothing. You know, I don't think, unless you're, like, already a famous professor or something, and it's, like, maybe matches. Like, somehow, like, that could be a thing where you're, oh, he's got gravitas because he clears famous professor or something and it's like maybe matches like somehow like that could be a thing where you're oh he's he's got gravitas because he clears his throat or something because he's like already an author i mean i'm an author but i'd have way more successful author but if you're like rudyard kipling and you're going around your through clearing your throat
Starting point is 00:06:58 then you're probably it's a power move but for me it's just like it's just what's this ass i'm on hinge you don't want to be fucking clearing your throat while you're on your wine holiday or whatever very fucking basic motherfucker wants to do with their goddamn hinge life right you know hinge those apps you know we've talked about that before oh yeah last person they want they want to do a selfie with a fucking boat and a glass of wine the last thing they want is some motherfucker clear in their throat reminding them reminding them of their mortality. Yeah. Could you stop death rattling on my selfie?
Starting point is 00:07:37 Picturing like somebody with a glass of champagne in the air, boat in the background, like face to the side, catching their good face. And then you're in the background like mid-cough with like a phlegm. You know who clears their throat less than you? Joe Biden. I was going to saye biden is wet compared to you that's right what is something from your search history you know i was looking through this and i apparently am a little bit of a psychopath because i actually clear my search history just like i clear my, I was looking and I don't, there's nothing there. So I don't know what to say.
Starting point is 00:08:11 I don't know what to say either. I know I started this during the pandemic when I would just like clear my tabs, but I'm going to look through like my old, my history, it's just like attendance forms. That's what's, everything's on QR codes. So it it's so my it tells me that i'm a student it's the most uninteresting thing about me but if you look up my i would say youtube search history now that's a different story all right what are we looking okay let me look t spill what channels are we watching drama channels
Starting point is 00:08:43 no okay i will tell you about this all I've been watching has been the H3 podcast. Okay. They come out with like three-hour episodes for a week. I don't know how they do it, but it's just like what my mind needs to get away from school. So my search history is just different clips from the H3 podcast as the past month has been. If I'm being completely honest, I just love it. What else? What do you subscribe to on YouTube? I have a wide variety. I'm looking at my subscriptions now. I really like,
Starting point is 00:09:18 I like things that can be a good distraction for me that I can do like while doing laundry or like have on the background. So there's another podcast called Two Hot Takes where they just read Reddit stories that I subscribe to. I like I like some news. I like do you know who Emily D. Baker is? She is a law. She's a lawyer who gives a lot of good law advice. And I love looking and hearing her perspective on like the different cases. So I have a nice variety of stuff, but most of it's long form content, which I think is kind of interesting. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. The, the, the word on young people for a long
Starting point is 00:09:56 time was like, they, they, their attention span is 30 seconds. Yeah. Every video has to be 43 seconds. Okay. You can do this hour long thing, but you have to speed it up. So it's done in 20 seconds. Do it on point five. One point five. One point five. Wow.
Starting point is 00:10:12 But yeah, long form content. Just luxuriate in the learning and energy. Bask in it. Bask in it. I love Mooncat. Do you, are you subscribed to Mooncat?
Starting point is 00:10:22 No, but do I need to be? She makes like, like these like long form documentary pieces that are really dope. M-U-N-E-C-A-T. Subscribing now. Yeah, she did like she did recently one on like the Manosphere and other one about how like crypto is like the libertarian hellscape that's like about to be unleashed on humanity. But like done in a very like, you know, YouTube-y, fun, jump cut, you know, costumes kind of thing. So is YouTube your social media of network or is YouTube your social network of choice?
Starting point is 00:10:58 It really is. It is my social media of choice. Actually, I don't have my Instagram notifications on. I don't have my Snapchat notifications on. I barely go on them. I just notice YouTube is best for my mental health. It does less issues. It makes me less anxious and it helps most with my anxiety. And you're able to know when you're drifting into manosphere content too. Exactly. And that is when we put our phone away
Starting point is 00:11:18 and we do activities without our phone, which is also very lovely. And before we started recording, you were talking about how you only eat raw liver. Is that because of the liver king or is that something? Oh my goodness. If you want to talk about liver king, whoa, that's all we want to talk about, to be honest with you, Tammy. I mean, honestly, when I think it's so funny that he was saying he wasn't on steroids because like, come, I think what was most funny that he was saying he wasn't on steroids. Because like, come. I think what was most unfortunate is he was promoting a lifestyle that was so unrealistic.
Starting point is 00:11:53 And if he promoted, he believed in the ideals he was promoting, he wouldn't have done what he did. I know. Yeah. What a shame. Love a grift though. Love a grift when you're like, yeah, I'm looking like this from eating raw liver. Raw liver? For real? He was like, I feed like my kids only raw liver.
Starting point is 00:12:03 And I was like, God god i hope not like that there's so much good food out there yeah wow how much of the manosphere like just the right wing kind of alex jones like they've they're all admitted hoaxes like it's not like they're is it it's not like they're still trying or like you know lying about like they're all alex jones said at in court like under oath i'm basically a wwe wrestler the liver king is like yeah i spend 150 000 a year on steroids at least it was like 12 000 a month or something like that a month i just did that math in my head. But, yeah. What is something you think is overrated?
Starting point is 00:12:49 Well, you know, I just, guys, I am, y'all are talking about being the old man of whatever. I am the old man of social media. I don't use social media, okay? I have an Instagram account so that the stuff they don't want you to know, Instagram account can, at me or whatever the functionality requires.
Starting point is 00:13:07 That's what our social media person told me to do. I just got on TikTok videos, like just started seeing them because that same person made a TikTok channel for stuff they don't want you to know. And I have been watching content to try and see what is happening on TikTok. I'm seeing all of these, I'm'm gonna call them inaccurate pseudo informational videos so it's like somebody is sitting here with like their their mic and they're like yeah talking like this yeah there are five reasons the x-37b is a nuclear missile waiting to happen and then it's just complete bs like it's just not researched it's not backed up with any kind of information it's just like telling you what the thing is that's happening and i am then you look at the view count for those videos and oh they're astronomical oh
Starting point is 00:13:56 my god yeah so like i don't understand i'm saying it's overrated because there appears to be a massive audience for whatever that is oh yeah but i just don't understand it so maybe it's exactly rated the way it should be i just know like things i know you mean it gets fucking murky when we start talking science or even anything that requires lived experience like there's shit we're like here's eight things they'll never tell you you can do on an airplane and like you're like wait what and it's like from some like 18 year old i'm like where the how the fuck do you like you're not coming at me like with like i have i have 900 uh like flown hours on an airplane blah blah it's like some loose collection of like reddit posts and then someone like makes it into a tiktok video the other ones that are wild too are like ones that are like about psychology where it's like
Starting point is 00:14:44 here's six signs that you might be in a codependent relationship and then like there there's some but it's funny because it's bred an entire counterculture of experts having to debunk all these fucking videos or they're like hi i'm an actual psychologist don't fucking listen to what this like they just butt in they're like that was absolute garbage okay What's the next one? Or scientists? Are those as popular as the ones saying the... I guess they don't do view counts, right? You can see for sure, but
Starting point is 00:15:13 I haven't done a one-to-one comparison. Typically, the one that has the more wild, salacious kind of shit does better. And then you come out of it convinced that you've had ADHD since you were born. Then the Adderall shortage happens um thanks tiktok uh yeah it feels like an even more opaque and like personalized version of what we were already seeing happen on social media where everybody's hearing a specifically like tailored version of reality
Starting point is 00:15:47 that is just catered to them and they assume everybody else understands and knows all the often false things that they've heard and read and absorbed yeah yeah it's yeah it i mean man i fuck if if tiktok was out in like 2003 oh the fucking big swings i would have took that's why i'm like shit why am i am i like older and have more media literacy because i would have been like oh you want some weird facts i'll make up about japan right now no you're so right you're so right hey yeah it's just like it's it's at a perfect time at a perfect age for this generation too, where it's like,
Starting point is 00:16:25 man, you have all this, like you're learning so much. You want to share so much. You're, and then probably within two weeks, you realize everything you believed is actually completely fucked up. And now you've got like a new way of thinking.
Starting point is 00:16:36 So it is interesting to see like the ebb and flow of like, uh, you know, what the popular discourse is on the tech talk. I just like dance videos. I've changed a lot since last spring. It's incredible stuff i've learned and i'm sure you share with you 12 things anyway okay six reasons why america is not a white supremacist capitalist patriarchy what it's just the majority like eventually will have its word you know it like the more people
Starting point is 00:17:04 are creating content the more that truth will rise to the top whatever they want the truth to be right oh yeah there's like a thing now like imagine the fucking uh mandela effects that people are going to be suffering from because of tiktok right you know what i mean and just weird shit where you're like did that happen or was that one viral tiktok i watched as i ingested 300 videos a day like what what happened there in 20 years the mandela effect will be elon musk crushed at that uh dave chappelle show thus launching his career as a comedian but a lot of people remember him being booed and that's just the tricky way that our memories
Starting point is 00:17:43 deceive us but that video was suppressed off the internet because Elon was running Twitter at the time. But I think like there's another, uh, there's this one trend right now that's called when I was a baby and people are, there's this video that was shown of like this little like Marionette doll that someone made out of clay with like a green cone hat and like a white
Starting point is 00:18:03 cape. And it's clearly a doll and this person's like making a dance and spin and it's just like a weird video but people are like duetting it like playing it side by side as they record themselves with their like young children and they're like telling their kids like that's you as a baby and just capturing like the confused looks as they like insist to their child that this doll was them as a baby it's just like what and their kids are like that's not mean like yes it is look that's you look at the little dance you did oh wow and they're like do you remember and then they're like oh yeah oh yeah that is me and then but haha chill where are we going i mean i get fucking with kids like, it's just funny because then there are people
Starting point is 00:18:48 on Tik TOK who are like, just wait 30 years when people in, they're going to see that and be like, Oh my God, that was wait. No, that wasn't me. How the, why the fuck do I think that was, that's a doll. There's no real anymore. There's no truth anymore. Everything is AI generated. It guys, it feels more and more like we're all just going to be on different servers.
Starting point is 00:19:05 We're going to choose the server we want to live in, and that's the one we're going to be on. We practically are, I'd say now. I lie to my kids, but I spend my lies carefully. You lie about Santa. I lie about being stronger than the Incredible Hulk. You got an elf on that shelf? No, no, no, no. We do have an elf that visits us at a
Starting point is 00:19:28 random time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. But, um, yeah. What's something you think is underrated? Alright, well, I have two for you guys. So the first one is also going to be laughable considering my heart attack thing, but I do think cold
Starting point is 00:19:43 showers are underrated. Now, I'm not talking about, like, you know, 15 do think cold showers are underrated. Now, I'm not talking about 15-minute cold showers is something crazy, but if you're a morning person, like if you shower in the morning, a quick two-minute cold shower, dude, wakes you the fuck up. You do it before the hot or at the end of the hot?
Starting point is 00:20:00 I'm talking just cold, my man. Just cold. You're washing yourself in ice cold water. You're washing. You ice cold washing you're a no hot yep i'm a no hot kind of guy but here's the thing it's got to be you have to be committed to taking a short shower right you're not it's not one of those showers where you're like thinking and blah blah it's like a quick in and out shower and it does suck during the shower it's never fun but after you get out it's like you had a cup of the cleanest coffee you've ever had you
Starting point is 00:20:25 know what i mean like you're just like locked in ready to rock feeling good about the day so my wife is very into huberman do you know huberman yeah yeah right yeah we're trying to get him on our podcast yeah yeah yeah so he's like this stanford scientist and he has all these like hacks and one of them is like the cold shower and she got me to buy in and i did the cold shower and i felt like shit for the rest of the day i was like oh my god i'm like exhausted and yeah like i have a cold for the rest of the day so i think it like definitely works for i think some people for sure the like that, the way you described it is the way I always hear people describing it, that it like ramps up your kind of energy and your adrenaline. And for me, it was just, my body was like, yo, don't do that ever again. It might've, it might've given you a
Starting point is 00:21:15 silent heart attack. Yeah. Yeah. I think that's exactly. I felt like shit the whole day. I could barely think. Look at neck pain. It's crazy. And what's your other underrated? I think the, I think being underrated can be underrated. Like when other people think you are, when other people underrate you or underrate something, that's underrated. Because I think like,
Starting point is 00:21:39 you know, I don't know. It doesn't really matter if you're a performer or whatever, but like, let's say, let's say I assume you're a bad doctor. We're talking about doctors, right? And then you come in and you're just like a normal doctor. Now I think you're
Starting point is 00:21:50 a great doctor because my expectation was that you were whack. Do you know what I mean? So sometimes being underrated gives you an edge. Low bars. Yeah, exactly. All about low bars, man. Yeah. Every day. The lowest. But yeah, like it also... You heard how we opened this podcast right
Starting point is 00:22:06 you heard my usher singing bar is pretty high but yeah it definitely is like a psychological advantage i think when it's i think the the most powerful it is is when you actually have a very strong sense of self and you're interacting with somebody who underrates you because that's when you'll be like, what the fuck was that? Yeah, exactly. I remember I read an interview with Margot Robbie or something where she was talking about how when she first got to LA before she was famous,
Starting point is 00:22:36 she would go on auditions and she felt like casting or whoever, producers, whatever, that she was auditioning for were like, when she walked in the room, that they would immediately judge her as like, just like a hot, ditzy person. And then when she actually like did the audition and like was good, that they were like, oh my God, she's the best actor ever.
Starting point is 00:22:54 She's like, I don't know if I deserve that response, but because people thought I was going to be dumb. The whiplash. The whiplash of it. You know what I mean? Yeah. Hell yeah. Whiplash.
Starting point is 00:23:03 There you go. Hell yeah, bro. All right. Let's take a quick break. Hell yeah, bro. All right. Let's take a quick break. We're going to come back and we're going to talk about a celebrated thinker among men, Brett Kavanaugh, and what he's up to now that he got the pass, is in the Supreme Court, and still loves beer. still loves beer.
Starting point is 00:23:30 I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For
Starting point is 00:24:10 I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions. Like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed?
Starting point is 00:24:45 Or, can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it like you miss 100 percent of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first,
Starting point is 00:25:37 I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them.
Starting point is 00:25:49 Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game?
Starting point is 00:26:08 And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. And we're back. And yeah, I mean,
Starting point is 00:26:38 so CBS has butt plugs. That's one piece of news that we want to share with you guys. That's old news. I didn't realize that. Come on, man. For the people that are active, you news that we want to share with you guys that's old news i didn't realize that come on man for the people that are active you got it you know that isle at cvs they got all kinds of stuff you're like oh shit when they i got a ball cvs what no no you can make your own with a tennis ball and some twine um but yeah no no yeah you cut you make a little hole in it so it's a little more compressible
Starting point is 00:27:07 look guys you could have a whole tiktok about how to make your own bondage gear with stuff around the house or stuff you can get at a dick's sporting goods but tucker carlson on his show at the end of last week you probably heard a lot about the right talking about butt plugs and insurrections and somehow they melded together and it turns out friday is when we heard uh this guy trace gallagher come like he was on tucker carlson's show and just talking about like i don't know if you've heard tucker they got b plugs and cv like this just listen to this whole exchange because it's so just listen how about How about this one? The producer for... A producer for Tucker Carlson tonight
Starting point is 00:27:47 happened to notice that CVS is now selling sex toys, and they appear to be a relative bargain. For example... A relative bargain? ...for $11.97, though the accompanying lotion that goes with it will set you back an additional $11.97. And if you've got the cash right there in the middle,
Starting point is 00:28:03 the buzzy butt will run you 32.50 information just wanted you to know about new york but it's it's immoral to sell marlboros trace just so you know thank you for your reporting you blow my mind every night okay wait so so his argument is you should you should be able to sell marlboros yes oh what the wait what just happened was that an ad that just came in i guess to be like You should be able to sell Marlboros. Yes. Oh, what the fuck? Wait, what just happened? Was that an ad that just came in? I guess that was another.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Yeah, that was a pre-roll. Yeah, we can cut that out. I guess he pivots off of that, which is, I guess, saying like, well, if you can sell sex toys for consenting adults to use, why can't you advertise death sticks? Right. consenting adults to use why not why can't you advertise death sticks right like the the logic is really interesting and again i like how they start off with like and it's quite a relative bargain a couple things i like how they're like when your producers happen to notice but i don't need to delve into the purpose personal lives of anyone and the kush tush or tush kush is actually a lubricant so i don't know why i meant the accompanying lotion because the the tush kush
Starting point is 00:29:10 already is a lubricant and i think it was 1179 in that picture but he said 1197 so they had to introduce mistakes so it seemed like they were not familiar with this and that they were surprised well but also relative bargain what is that where is your basis for comparison are you i mean but was 30 something maybe right yeah i don't again that that was just for them to be like oh like you know butt play equals maybe lgbtq or straight dude i don't know look i don I don't know. I don't know. But CBS has them. And yet they won't let your kids smoke in school. Come on. It's a weird segment.
Starting point is 00:29:54 So, yes, shocked, I'm sure. But then the next night, Marjorie Taylor Greene decided to incorporate that material during her one hour stand up special. I guess that was described as a new york young republicans gathering with many luminaries of the right uh in the audience and she started off with the usual like rah-rah maga bullshit including um y'all if i was doing january 6th with steve bannon we would have fucking won yeah then january 6th happens and next thing you know I organized the whole thing Along with Steve Bannon here
Starting point is 00:30:26 Oh my god He unmade it And I gotta tell you something If Steve Bannon and I had organized that We would have won Okay so We would have fucking won That's where she left that one
Starting point is 00:30:41 She's like alright guys Starting material Just want to normalize some political violence and just say it's which is very weird because like like weird humble brag because before margie taylor green's whole thing was like it's a peaceful protest and that's all it was and now you're pressed because people called it a failed coup attempt and now your ego's getting in the way hold on like what the fuck she's lying and like obviously knows exactly what it is she don't want smoke she can't even do a pull-up right you know what i mean she's not she's not built for it but she will try to do a pull-up she will yes
Starting point is 00:31:16 matt have you ever seen marjorie taylor green doing a pull-up i have not oh it's worth a look it's it's wild it's the one of the most violent things i've ever seen really yeah it looks like someone trying to quite literally i don't even know like it feels like if a fish had arms for the first time and it was learning what to do with it um i will find that clip but yes it is as jarring physically as as you can imagine i'm just scared because i feel like that's maybe what it looks like when i do a pull-up so now i'm now i'm gonna like watch myself in a mirror next time just to make sure it's wild so after after like depending on where you get your news you may have heard the headlines it's like marjorie taylor green says i would uh you know i would have did
Starting point is 00:31:59 the fuck out of january 6 with steve bannon if we had people, I guess, got tired of the like people on the right, normalizing political violence. So others just went with, why is Marjorie Taylor green talking about butt plugs at this event? And again, she was had some kind of like, you know, homophobic screed about,
Starting point is 00:32:17 you know, supporting like LGBTQ children. And she figured, Oh, here, now I can draw a direct line from like gender affir gender-affirming care to CVS-selling toys. By the way, you can pick up a butt plug or a dildo at Target and CVS nowadays. Boo?
Starting point is 00:32:36 I don't know how we got here. Came here. Sorry. I may still be finishing your dessert. I apologize. Yeah. gay marriage sorry i might still be finishing your dessert i apologize yeah this is the state that we're living in right now and it's so okay thanks open mic marjorie even the audience is like what i didn't like groaning too one person was like i don't know if you heard someone goes yeah because, because gay marriage. Really? Oh, really? Yeah. Fucking nice genius galaxy brain take there. But again, this whole thing, like the logic that the right uses to other and dehumanize
Starting point is 00:33:15 like the whole LGBTQ community, which is sort of like their, their presence will somehow change a child in ways we can't imagine. Like, is it like, is I guess the idea here, if they're aware of something like butt play, they will become anthropomorphized butt plugs? Right. Like, by that logic, like, you know, if kids know what guns are, then what happens? It is a weird overprotective thing, right? If this instinct to protect a kid from any possible thing you may think is inappropriate for that child's innocence, and then you try and prevent them from learning about it at all,
Starting point is 00:33:56 rather than having conversations about complex things. Yeah, informing them. But again, I don't need like spin my wheels because there's no need to like find a rationale behind any of this like you're weaponizing again like you're saying matt like the put like the parental instinct to protect a child to then be like oh man you know what's really bad brillo pads right right you're like what what would he what's what's wrong with brillo pads like at the very least if some person who you think is like a respectable human is saying this thing is a danger to kids on some level you'll probably be like well in what way like you'll just you'll at least entertain hearing
Starting point is 00:34:34 it because you don't want to be like dismissive of safety but again something is you know terrible is just homophobia i think most people be like, that's not a real thing. But hold on. What about Brillo pads? Don't put them in the microwave. That's what I like. Oh, no. Okay. What about those little Doritos chip bags you get, the snack pack, that you can shrink? Oh, be careful.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Okay. Be really careful. I used to do that with Rice Krispie Treats wrappers. Wait, you put them in the microwave and they shrink? Yeah, they fucking spark up and they shrink yeah they spark up and they shrink yeah you could be like yo look at my mini crumpled doritos bag and they're like you almost fucking blew up the school doing that yeah yeah what are you doing in the teachers in the teachers lounge miles okay you can't have that coffee i want to see marjorie taylor green
Starting point is 00:35:21 with a pull-up bar in the teacher's lounge because Brian just posted a link to those pull-ups and I don't know what it is. You guys are so right. It's this fluid motion thing that is kind of beautiful to watch in one way, but it's also just like I don't understand which parts of the muscle groups
Starting point is 00:35:39 are really beginning. Yeah, it would be bad for your back to try and whip your body, use the momentum like a fucking flagellum on an amoeba or something. Am I using the right terms? I'm feeling very science-y. Yeah, that's correct.
Starting point is 00:35:56 I'm probably just making fun of it because that's what I looked like when I was trying to do pull-ups in PE class as a kid. I could never do pull-ups. I was like, they made you do pull-ups? Oh man, as a kid i could i could never do pull-ups i was like they made you do pull-ups oh man they didn't do that shit at my school i think everybody knew well we had those like presidential fitness yeah things right but it was never things yo my maybe my you know what my school didn't have a thing to pull up on so i think we just did fucking uh like mile times and push-ups you'll have a rope right
Starting point is 00:36:27 like yeah we had a rope yeah there was a jumper oh oh no see my elementary school i didn't have a gym until like high school we didn't have a gym at my like elementary school everything was outside that makes sense yeah so we were just out here couldn't even pull up on anything that's what we got these old shuttle runs is all of that oh yeah we did oh and the flexibility one too where you put on the box and you had to like oh i used to get loose before that one because that was the one i kind of excelled at like i wasn't hitting as many push-ups as like other kids but i was a mild guy but i was bad at everything else what was your mile time i I don't remember, but I think it was like five minutes. I like that one.
Starting point is 00:37:12 Yeah. All right. There's new Congress coming in. New Congress just dropped and a lot of speculation about what the agendas are going to be. And we're starting to see them take shape. And the Republicans are kind of as suspected you know they're they're in line with elon musk's cool joke about uh my pronouns are investigate fauci
Starting point is 00:37:34 prosecute actually prosecute fauci yeah sorry if you want to be respectful but yeah like it's all a bunch of fishing expeditions obviously hunter biden's laptop is going to be a huge one any and like other trump grievances right like marching up people who cross trump is probably how they're going to waste all their energy but um they've also said that they are going to act like politicians who are worried about governmental dysfunction and they will be looking into covid aid abuse really the thing they couldn't give a fuck less about in 2020 the very thing many of them benefited from personally while working americans were left to language that yes you will get to the bottom of that for fucking sure uh no they won't but again this is going to be an attempt to try and act like all of this abuse didn't happen under their watch with Trump in office.
Starting point is 00:38:31 Because again, we didn't hear a single fucking peep unless it was like about helping those in actual need. You know what I mean? That's when they had something to say. It wasn't like when people were just taking off with all this money and like people just like being like yeah man i fucking bought a lambo and shit it was pretty dope but apparently they will get to the bottom of this i think again it'll be a very bizarro optic circus because they're like okay we got to get away from the election denial but we also got to chum the waters for the base to be angry enough to vote while also trying to appeal to new voters who aren't as put off by racism homophobia xenophobia
Starting point is 00:39:06 and just general societal regression right how about the democrats where are we gonna get from them they got control of the senate still yeah jack thank you for bringing that up because chuck shoomy and the crew are gonna roll up their fucking sleeves and start cracking some skulls you know what they've been saying they said, first of all, since they have their outright majority in the Senate, they have subpoena power. They don't need Republicans to buy in at all. So what will they do? They have said
Starting point is 00:39:33 they're going to look into corporate abuses of power. Really? They said they're going full populist, folks. They said they want to see whatist folks you know they want to see they said they want to see like what fossil fuel companies have been up to big tech if they're overstepping compromising our privacy what's going on with inflation but before you go and think we're about to get you
Starting point is 00:39:55 know enter some new age of progressivism i would just consider the limitations that the democrats are mindful of this is from nbc news just when they first were speaking to democrats about their agenda quote still democratic senate sources said there will be limitations in the use of subpoenas which in many cases require majority support on committees according to non-partisan congressional research service one reason is that the 2024 Senate map is extremely challenging for Democrats with three members defending seats in red states and another five in competitive purple states those senators may be particularly sensitive about supporting subpoenas that come in partisan flavors now if you're about looking at corporate overreach can't imagine that's gonna smack of partisan
Starting point is 00:40:37 unless we're talking about you know your benefactors right it seems like that would be broadly popular to just these corporations. Fucked you over. Uh, we gotta, we gotta be very careful. Hold on. No,
Starting point is 00:40:50 hold Amy's based in Minnesota. So you can't bring three M up here. Don't bring three, do not subpoena three M or Amy Klobuchar is going to be in fucking shit. Okay. Find someone else. Get Sam Bankman fraud or that guy barely has any fucking barely any goodwill points for that you know what i mean like they're gonna bring up they're gonna do shit they're gonna bring like
Starting point is 00:41:09 people forward i'm just a little weary um because you know when you say those like well we really want to do this stuff but senate math yeah you know like so they're basically saying maybe there will be in will in no way actually deliver on the initial premise that we threw out there. I can see them doing some stuff in big tech. Fossil fuel companies are safe as safe. Unless it's like Saudi Aramco or something. They might start a war, but nothing's happening to big fossil fuel companies. It's creepy that that makes so much sense to me.
Starting point is 00:41:41 That makes so much sense to me. They would go after building more weapons or using the weapons that are already built to make some profit that way rather than actually going after the companies. But guys, I had this conversation with my father the other day. He's in his 70s and his retirement funds with all the stock market stuff that's been happening, they've just been rocky, let's say. And I wonder what happens if, let's say Democrats actually did go after energy companies and these big tech companies and did do some good, made these companies pay their fair share or pay back humans when there's been some kind of environmental disaster or something like that
Starting point is 00:42:25 and then the stock market plummets for for at least in those sectors like what happens to all the older folks and does that matter what do you guys think i think like anything right it's a very very well set up game where they've tied people's livelihoods to the fucking stock market right yeah you know what i mean it's such a risky fucking look at all these people are getting fucked over because certain like municipalities or school districts were like using ftx and like crypto for their fucking like pension funds yeah yeah that's that's where it's fucked up you know what i mean the fact that now because to your
Starting point is 00:43:05 point that is something to consider because if someone says yo we need to kneecap these fucking fossil fuel companies then someone can say well you know like 60 of x you know like let's say just whatever this is a hypothetical like 50 of the firefighters in new york like a lot of their pensions are tied to that performance of this industry that's really bad and i am here to lobby on behalf of them to tell you this will be the knock-on effect of your legislation and that's where it gets murky and you put people up against a wall and i think there's more education needed but i totally i totally get that which is weird it becomes an oroboros like all of it right it's all interconnected and that's what makes the system of capitalism like that's why the statement it's easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of
Starting point is 00:43:50 capitalism like makes so much sense it's just massive and ongoing and self-perpetuating and smarter than any like single human so it's it's gonna find a way to survive and you know punish anything that threatens its overall health. But I mean, the last time we had a major market collapse, the people weren't you provide relief and support to people who get fucked over by the operating of a of a company that like they didn't have access to what like a company that was lying and committing fraud whoa you're just gonna give money away jack yeah we've been giving money away to corporations and ceos and banks for like, that's the only time America feels okay about giving money away.
Starting point is 00:44:48 So it's like, we need some protections in place for people who are going to get fucked over by all the horribly corrupt things that have been happening now for decades, but it needs to protect people and people who are trying to retire and be able to live out their lives and not protect Morgan Stanley's ability to continue giving out million dollar bonuses to themselves would be my argument. But yeah, I think but I think it's just important. Right. It's like more people have to be in touch with understanding, like just how unpredictable and just how like sort of well set up everything is. So like you depend on the stock market while also acknowledging that like the philosophy of like infinite growth is also the,
Starting point is 00:45:37 it's like the cause of and solution to all of life's problems. Right. Exactly. So you're in this like really fucked space and i think it just takes a you know i think like anything the more people are able to like articulate that it'll feel less like well then what do we do about this like yeah we do this because we've been giving money to the fucking people who don't fucking need it while other people end up rotting and that's the that's the fucking game here it's not well what about
Starting point is 00:46:05 exxon man fuck them what about you where's your fucking livelihood where's your sense of stability where's your ability to like feel safe and that you can provide for your family what about fucking you man fuck these billion dollar companies seriously don't send your empathy that way understand the system and then find a way that you can actually at least be able to inform yourself and others that like these are the real stakes. Because the more we like flounder on and like this sort of half understanding what's going on and half wanting to ignore it, the longer it's going to continue. And it's the same shit we see with the Democrats of this whole thing of like being like we're attacking populist until we act like again, you'll have to forgive my cynicism here because i've seen this so many times but the proof will be in what comes after these grillings will there be regulation other than that it's just going to be a bunch of fucking youtube clips that they're going
Starting point is 00:46:57 to fucking fundraise off of and that's that's the other part is people need to be able to demand that from the politicians but again knowing how everything's set up, you start to see how fucking hard it is to break that. And with all this thing of like, yeah, we got to consider the Senate. I'm like, look at every single thing they did that with Obamacare, build back better child tax credits, every piece of climate legislation, fucking every piece of banking reform, fucking every piece of police reform. It's all, you know, the Senate matter, the math. in every piece of police reform it's all you know the senate matter the math they just have to make you feel like they're the team that's gonna do those things or could do those things or maybe would want to do those things right exactly and i think many people are at a point now where they just want to feel like fucking make good on all this shit because we're very quickly like as
Starting point is 00:47:39 people's situations become more dire you're really just gonna like i think people's gonna become fully apathetic uh and just really see like what's the like what they just court my vote every two to four years for fucking what like incremental change yeah we need a chaotic good party as a third party in the u.s you know what i mean like they're they're always aiming for good whatever that is but they're just super chaotic about it yeah we have a chaotic evil yeah yeah right i just got a notification last night from uber being like hey donate to help us continue to provide service to the ukrainian fighters and it's just like this built-in logic of like you're a like 50 billion dollar company and you are asking me for donations for you to do something that is
Starting point is 00:48:27 beneficial well no here's the thing actually we already donated 50 million right but we're just trying to get that back right so you the individual but that's the logic that works in america like stepping outside it's like well that doesn't make sense why are they a massive corporation asking me a private individual for donations and it's because they can in our country right but you know that like when you go to the store and they're like would you like to feed a homeless dog yeah yeah they're just recouping what they already get your money isn't going to that they already made their donation they're just taking your money to make themselves whole and it's a huge tax benefit yeah oh no yeah baby until they get your ass um got it let's take a quick break i want to talk about ufos

Starting point is 00:51:22 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game.
Starting point is 00:51:44 Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them. Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch.
Starting point is 00:51:58 She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:52:23 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. And we're back. And the news out of science is undeniably good. Scientists at a lab in California created the first breakthrough in nuclear fusion technology that seems to suggest we might be on a path to be able to create clean, sustainable energy using basically the same power as the sun, but here on Earth, just like create a little sun from this LA Times article. Last week for the first time, they designed this experiment so that the fusion fuel stayed hot enough, dense enough, and round enough for long enough that it ignited and produced more energy than the lasers had deposited, which that's what you need. The net
Starting point is 00:53:12 energy gain was about two megajoules in, about three megajoules out. I was reading all about it. I'm like, I don't know what a fucking megajoule is. Is that like a vape cartridge? Like, what the fuck are we talking about but there are plenty of articles that were like hey dumbass this is why this shit is fucking important and i'm like oh shit because normally right we're using fission reactors in nuclear power plants which are splitting atoms and create radioactive waste like in the form of spent fuel rods this is literally fusing them to create an energy like a net energy gain and has no like has none of the pitfalls of like fission reactors it's clean which i was like oh okay so no like chernobyl fukushima type shit also infinite like
Starting point is 00:54:01 it's clean and once you get it going like it's it's a party for for all to have fucking energy right that was like that's when i was like i see i see that is that's big yeah yeah it also generates three to four times as much energy as fission which itself is already roughly a million times more powerful than any other energy source on earth so how many times more roughly a million times more powerful a million times more wait how many how wait what's fusion is how many times more than fission three to four times as much as jesus if that's wow okay yeah so it intriguing, very promising. Still, like the fact that we don't use fission, the thing that's already a million times more powerful than the other energy that we have available to us. I think that has more to do with it not fitting into the world's preferred
Starting point is 00:55:01 paradigm of the moment, which is global corporate capitalism. Like you, you need the government to like intervene and handle a nuclear reactor. Essentially, that's not a thing that can be like easily privatized. You can't just like find some, you know, plutonium rods and, you know, become a nuclear billionaire overnight, you know? Right. So I don't know. Like, we already have a fairly when you look at, like, people writing about the nuclear energy that we have available to us through fission, like, it's already pretty safe. And, you know, there are some downsides, but not nearly the amount of downsides that fossil
Starting point is 00:55:47 fuels have but you know through a steady drumbeat of like disaster movies and overblown news disasters it keeps it as something we're afraid of and i don't i don't know if it's that they're all overblown i mean not all over to render like compared swaths of a nation like unfeasible i think is bad but i get i get the point because i think my first reaction is like nuclear bad no yeah simpsons three-eyed fish yeah i'm specifically like from the simpsons i'm trained to be scared of nuclear energy for sure. But greenhouse gases have like killed way more people. Yeah. George, do you have a similar reaction? What's your first thought when you hear nuclear energy? I mean, I like you just assume it's bad, but I'm like,
Starting point is 00:56:38 I don't know. I, in my mind, I'm like, if we had a thousand nuclear plant, nuclear energy plants in America, would that meet, would that be all, would that be it? Like, would that be the only energy we would need? Cause I feel like I've read stats like that, where it's like,
Starting point is 00:56:52 you know, it wouldn't take that many nuclear power plants around the world to like power the entire world. Yeah. And it's like, it's, and in my understanding is it's clean until there's a Chernobyl. But then when there's a Chernobyl,
Starting point is 00:57:04 that's really fucking bad. And you get the three-eyed fish, like you said. You know what I'm saying? So how many Chernobyls have we had? So we've had like two? Or has there been a bunch more that I don't know about? Yeah, there's Fukushima. There's definitely been some high-profile disasters.
Starting point is 00:57:20 And there is something, I think, naturally that scares us about like such a sort of hard-to your mind around like form of power. But I definitely don't think fission especially is without its flaws. It's just when you look at what gas like and coal has has done to people, you know, it kills them in ways that they're comfortable with i guess right right you know well i guess comparatively like you have more deaths from fossil fuel burning energy generation than you would like these nuclear you know like millions yeah like way way way way way more yeah i think that's what makes the fusion thing so exciting is where you go well guess what none of that is a possibility with fusion thing so exciting is where you go, well, guess what?
Starting point is 00:58:05 None of that is a possibility with fusion. In fact, like you can't even make nuclear weapons with fusion, like a fusion reaction type like facility. So there's like all this stuff. You're like, it's actually the best fucking way possible. Right. And but then like, and I'm like, OK, great. So we're out of the woods. But again, I feel like they only were able to do that in a small controlled like experiment.
Starting point is 00:58:28 And now it's about scaling that up to like a commercial level, which they say is like maybe a couple decades away. But yeah, yeah, yeah. There was in college, there was this lake near my college that was manmade and there was a nuclear power plant nearby and the lake was always warm and the local people were like yeah the the power plant like it's just because you know like the like the pipes or some shit like running it's like so it's always warm it's always warming it and i was like that sounds bad like that sounds really bad like we're swimming in like a man-made lake it's a hot spring and yeah hot a nuclear powered hot spring a hot spring. Yeah. Hot, a nuclear powered hot spring. Nuclear hot spring. Yeah. You guys want to go swimming at the nuclear hot spring? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:08 You want to go to Three-Eyed Frog Lake? Right. Okay. It is, again, like talking about things that are like really intertwined. It's hard to figure out how much of it is just like a natural fear of like, well, radiation is this thing that we don't like fully understand. We know as bad as compared to fossil fuels. But there's also been a concerted smear campaign by fossil fuel companies to make nuclear energy terrifying
Starting point is 00:59:35 because gas is something one person can, you know, put in a truck and sell to another person. and sell to another person. And, you know, nuclear power, you need government level budgets to invest in a power plant that requires, you know, massive infrastructure and resources. And then everything, you know, from there is much more efficient.
Starting point is 00:59:58 But that's not a thing that you can like easily incorporate into the system, the money system of the world. And then also like most of the money in the world or a great deal of the money in the world, at least at this time, is tied up in the current system of global capitalism and privatization and deregulation. And this would move and you really you really want to closely regulate these nuclear power plants they'd be like whoa whoa whoa everybody's getting electricity now yeah we're like cheap oh fuck because they're already like you think how hard like fossil fuel
Starting point is 01:00:36 companies were fighting solar energy and like but but technology's gotten to the point where they're like sorry like this one's just going to get away from you more and more as more people are like well fuck it then i'll put on my house if i have to like the idea where they're like, sorry, like this one's just going to get away from you more and more as more people are like, well, fuck it. Then I'll put on my house if I have to. Like the idea where they're like, well, fuck, man, they just a fucking son gives them that. And this thing makes like a son basically that they can exploit the energy off of. That's like a fucking nightmare for like a lobbyist whose interests are like, got to keep got to keep the fucking dinosaur bones at the forefront yeah guys you want to burn up dinosaur bones or some weird freaky science future shit come on y'all i'm with dinosaur bones this might sound like a dumb question but why is fusion so much harder
Starting point is 01:01:18 than fission like what is it that has made the fusion thing so like out of our reach? No clue. Okay. Respect. Couldn't tell you. I wish this was that kind of podcast. Could it be that fission was, you know, easier to turn into a weapon? And so they, you know, they were out at the cutting edge of that and had their more resources invested in it. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:01:42 That makes sense to me. But I actually haven't done done the research. It just might be, you know, from a science perspective, like much, much more difficult. But I just I'm interested to watch how this story unfolds, because, you know, I have absolutely no doubt that the global corporate order will find ways to sabotage the use of nuclear power in this form as well, or at least try to. But I also think they'll be going with the grain of, you know, the hive mind of global capitalism and people naturally will just kind of want to reject this, even though it, I don't know, it has a good head start. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:28 Because the first thing we're finding out about it is like they created a sun in a lab as opposed to, you know, nuclear weapons. So that's maybe a benefit. The lazy Google search I did is that it just takes way more energy to fuse atoms than to split them. Right. That's the other thing and the amount of pressure and all this other stuff they have to recreate for fusion to take place just much harder than splitting an atom and makes it go boom i mean it's metaphorical right it's way harder to like bring things together than just destroy shit seriously right
Starting point is 01:02:58 yeah and then look at and look at the unbelievable power unleashed in people in the things coming together versus letting them apart a good metaphor a good metaphor but yeah did you guys see that thing with christopher nolan recently about oh yeah about oppenheimer yeah like so what did he do he like he's he's bragging that he was able to recreate an atomic blast without cgi and then everyone's like so wait are you saying like what did you do you blew up like a small atomic i didn't quite understand what was going on we just saw the headline it to me it sounds like he was able to create a mushroom cloud you know which doesn't necessarily need like an atomic bomb to do but yeah i have a feeling that's wouldn't put it past sick i made a fucking mushroom cloud did you guys get that on camera yeah it's also wild when you look back at like the history of the u.s and you know during the
Starting point is 01:03:50 cold war there they were just so cavalier with nuclear weapons they were just like bombing just like bombing you know uh places in the desert like within you know sight range of las vegas all the time they had like a las vegas beauty pageant that was like mrs a bomb and like you could see like as the beauty pageants happening you could see like mushroom clouds in the distance so i'm sure that also didn't help with people's willingness to you know the the fact that it was mostly a weapons thing for like when it first came on the scene yeah well and oh yeah and also we just have the worst examples when you hear the word nuclear or atomic yeah it's not like yeah and like the the jet pack that saved everyone's life it's like atom bombs you know that horrible shit
Starting point is 01:04:38 or chernobyl you saw that on hbo anyway that and then you're immediately like yeah yeah but bring on the fusion please and i think honestly it may i know like there is a obviously we know that something that could just be like infinitely replicated like and created like energy is a bit of a kind of gross idea to fossil fuel companies but i also feel like it gives like society the out to like where they're like no man if we can just do fucking this then we can fucking eat the meat and do fucking everything else and then we can just just nip this part in the butt and then have free energy for everyone so who knows i mean we're not we're not exactly about doing the work in this country. So I certainly saw it as like, wow, science really did it.
Starting point is 01:05:27 Yeah, I mean, you bailed us out. It'll just be interesting to see if we're willing to use it. But well, right. And then and the other thing being is we can't wait 20 to 30 years to then be like, all right, clean energy. It's also we need to be doing that shit yesterday. So at least we had a break. All right. That's going to do it for this week's weekly Zeitgeist. Please like and review the show if you like the show. Means the world to Miles. He needs your validation, folks.
