Hello, the internet, and welcome to this Friday episode of Died, Hooked on a Trending. That is courtesy of Atlas Novak. I am Jack. That is a good name. You are Jamie. I am.
Starting point is 00:02:39 How about that? And this is the last damned thing that we're putting out this week. So first of all, have a great weekend, everyone. And that's the last damned thing that we're putting out this week. So, first of all, have a great weekend, everyone. And that's the show. No. We just wanted to pop in and say, hi. Hope you're doing well. Any big plans for the weekend?
Starting point is 00:02:56 All right. Never. Donkey Donors is trending. Dunkin' Donuts. All right. right everybody listen if you're listening to this on friday it's not too late most dunkin donuts are open until 9 p.m you can go there are some that are 24 hours i bet that they have to honor it up until midnight is free donut day you get a drink at dunkin donuts guess what you get a free donut as well uh remember to be very kind to the people who work at dunkin donuts because they're having a terrible day
Starting point is 00:03:31 today they're having the worst day of your entire year but it doesn't need to be a bad day for everybody have you ever i i worked at so i just came in so hot with the Dunkin' Donuts. I'm going to slow my speech. No, please. I mean, you guys should see the just bathtub-sized Dunkin' Donuts that Jamie is selling. I've been gaming every Dunkin' Donuts in Los Angeles. I have 400 free donuts surrounding me. Is that iced Affleck?
Starting point is 00:04:01 What are you drinking these days? Ben Affleck's preferred drink is a little too sweet for my taste but I respect I respect his order I have to I used to know it because in like early quarantine I ordered it because I don't know I had time
Starting point is 00:04:20 I had time so a lot of time to kill so I would get Ben Affleck's order back when he was with Ana de Armas, and he would get her his order as well. It was a simpler time. Made that relationship rest in peace. I know. But have you ever worked at somewhere on the day that it's like,
Starting point is 00:04:38 free coffee day? Free whatever day? It's very unpleasant. I worked at a rooftop pool at the the soho house it was a soho house pool boy my first job out of college what and i was sexually harassed for a living and i was there the day that there was the new york cityout which was in the middle of the summer. And so everybody came to this pool deck. There were people hanging off the roof.
Starting point is 00:05:15 And I became a waiter that day even though I was a pool boy and worked for 24 hours straight. That was the closest thing I got to that. It was madness. That sounds so awful. It was to that. It was madness. That sounds so awful. Yeah, it was really awful. But also exciting. The pool was very small, and by the end of the day,
Starting point is 00:05:33 like not even by the end of the day, by like 4 o'clock, it was like milky. That's how many people were in it. I know. I'm sorry. That's so gross, but it's true. No, that's good to know. I think that history needed that anecdote.
Starting point is 00:05:47 If anyone was there and wants to reach out to Jack, I apologize. The oral history of the, yeah. The oral history of the day the pool got really milky. That's so awesome. Yeah, I worked a couple of free coffee days. And I guess I was working at a bagel shop when the marathon bombing in Boston happened. But that was that was like, no, I mean, the bagels ended up being free, but it was because due to the trauma. Everyone were you working that day?
Starting point is 00:06:17 I was working that day. Yeah. Oh, my God. Where we weren't near. We were like I was like near Fenway Park. So it was like a little like, so there was panic, but there wasn't, we weren't near any of the actual like sites where things were happening. But the bagels ended up being free that day. There you go.
Starting point is 00:06:34 So, you know, there you go. Are people generally, so you worked at a Dunkin' Donuts during free coffee day? I've never, no, I worked at a Seattle's Best Coffee and we did some free coffee promotions. I can't imagine, I've known Dunk's employees who have been through and endured National Donut Day and then also I think National Iced Coffee Day. They should get hazard pay. I hope, I think National Iced Coffee Day. They should get hazard pay.
Starting point is 00:07:06 I hope. I kind of wonder. I would hope that you would at least get time and a half for a day that's just full of angry, angry people that want their strawberry frosted more than they want to be alive. Right. That said, I am going to be going to my Dunkin' Dubs in choice right after we stop. And I am going to be going to my duncan doesn't choice right after and i'm going to be angry and i'm going to be so mean i uh had a ritual a week-long ritual uh when i was back in pittsburgh with my wife and i would take her to where she had to go every morning and then pass a duncan donut stop, get a little breakfast sandwich.
Starting point is 00:07:47 And I even got a jelly donut every once in a while. And it was lovely. What's your Dunkin' Breakfast sandwich that you get? The sausage, egg, and cheese, but not on a croissant, on a English muffin. And I did the hack that we recently learned on Daily Zeitgeist where I asked them, it's supposed to be for only McDonald's sandwiches, but I said, hell, why not? Let's give it a shot. What do you have to lose?
Starting point is 00:08:10 And I said, could I get a real egg on that? And they always said, huh? What? What do you mean? But then ultimately gave me a real egg and it tasted wonderful. Whoa. As opposed to the springy microwave egg.
Starting point is 00:08:26 I didn't know that.'s that's incredible yeah and i bet they hated you or a fresh egg yeah no they did not like me they're like hey fresh eggs here again all fresh eggs here and it looks like he's starting to spread the word yeah i'm sure the Dunkin' Donuts employees, any Dunkin' Donuts employees listening are like, fuck you, man. All right, let's talk about Drake Bell briefly. It's not good. Yeah, Drake Bell,
Starting point is 00:09:01 I'm most famously of Nickelodeon series Drake and Josh, big child star of the early 2000s. He played Josh? He famously played Josh. This is a very unfortunate and scary trend of if there's a famous person named Drake, they just shouldn't be around teenagers. If there's a famous person named Drake, they just shouldn't be around teenagers. Because the other Drake also gets involved with teenagers, and that is not legal.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Just buddies. Just buddies. He just wants to be buddies with Billy Bobby Brown. I just want to die. So Drake Bell today was charged with disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and attempted endangering children in Cleveland, Ohio. The details of the case are extremely vague, but it sounds like there were DMs and he was trying to arrange meeting up with an underage girl at one of his concerts a couple of years ago um and obviously i mean she and her parents um started the case and he is out on bond right now on the agreement to have no contact no contact with the victim but i think that the case will be ongoing it's just very fucked up and there's not a good there's not a good famous drake uh that exists um he is also a musician
Starting point is 00:10:34 is that what i'm understanding yeah there was i think that that was like kind of a part of the nickelodeon deal that he tried to carry into his adulthood was like every TV star has to be a pop star if you're on TV and he kept trying to do it but I don't know there's been various unsavory news items about him over the last couple of years I don't really know what's
Starting point is 00:10:58 going on but this is disgusting bye bye Drake is there anything like worse than and the other drake made it bad made what i'm about to talk about uh bad gave everybody hope of like an actor who really wants to be a musician i i mean more power to them but it i just find it very embarrassing um it's i mean especially when it's like they're they were never that good i feel like i mean the nickelodeon success story is ariana grande but then for
Starting point is 00:11:31 every ariana grande there's 40 children who couldn't hold a tune and were aggressively told that they could especially old white guys who want to be rock stars like johnny depp and uh i've been enjoying billy bob thornton's work in the tv show goliath uh which really just because it's on amazon prime yeah i really i don't know i just i like that dude on camera for some reason and and then there's king renner of course right and just i'm always reminded of this Billy Bob Thornton interview where the guy just asked him one question about his acting career, and he was so mean to the guy. He's like, I'm not talking about acting, dude.
Starting point is 00:12:17 I'm here to talk about my band, my music. But it's like, no, Billy, Billy, Billy, Billy, no one gives a fucking shit about your band is the problem, my man. Buddy. It's just bad. There's some NBA stuff trending. You're going to have to unpack this for me. What happened on the court?
Starting point is 00:12:37 Last year's national champs, the Los Angeles Lakers, won the title in the bubble with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It was the fulfillment of the promise of the Lakers trading away all their young, promising talent to get Anthony Davis, who is very talented but very injury prone. And this year, they started the season earlier than players wanted to. And a lot of people got hurt because there just wasn't enough rest. LeBron got hurt for the first time in his career, basically. And Anthony Davis got hurt in this series. And so they were up 3-2 in the series.
Starting point is 00:13:20 No, it was tied 2-2 in the series. The Lakers were rolling, looked like they were about to tied 2-2 in the series the lakers were rolling looked like they were about to like blow this team out of the water and then anthony davis got hurt and they just got like destroyed for the rest of the series like embarrassingly so uh so they just got bounced out of the playoffs now everybody's like what are the lakers gonna do fire the coach who just won the yeah it's the first round of the playoffs so wait they're gonna fire the coach i don't know that i they probably won't but that's what uh lakers fans would like because lakers fans have no patience and they expect a they expect to be winning a
Starting point is 00:13:58 championship even when it's mid-season they think think they're like, it's been too long. Win another championship. They just have very high expectations. I wish I was someone else to have this conversation. I'm like, oh, no, they lost. That stinks. It is sad. I really like the Lakers. I really like this team.
Starting point is 00:14:20 I really like their coach. I root for them on behalf of Miles, and I'm sad to see them lose. I loved Miles' Lakers experience. Made it all worth it for me. That's what makes me love basketball is Miles yelling. Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:40 And finally, I want to talk about the treat economy. We already talked about the free donut that you can get with a drink at Dunkin' Donuts. But they are giving out, let's see, you can get free popcorn if you buy some AMC stonks. Really? Yeah. There's like a section on the app that you get access to if you are a shareholder in amc and it includes free popcorn they're really wilding out recently they're just they'll do also if it's your first movie back at all and you have a membership with them you get a huge ass popcorn and a free drink
Starting point is 00:15:19 i mean they got mine they know what i like place part two last weekend how was the experience being back it was good quiet place two is whatever but like i was like oh like a a jump scare movie with a huge ass popcorn and people not respecting social distancing it was exactly what i thought would happen but it was exciting. Nice. Yeah, they're apparently not requiring masks or you don't have to wear a mask if you've been vaccinated and they're just working off of the honor system on whether you've been vaccinated.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Very cool, you guys. There's also the ultimate treat for vaccinations uh there's obviously the million dollar lottery but budweiser uh you know the america's favorite beer i guess i don't know uh is gonna give people free beer on the fourth of july if we get to 70 vaccinated vaccinated. Well, I don't, I mean, I don't think that's going to happen, but it's a nice thought. Right. It's just so weird that this is like,
Starting point is 00:16:33 it feels very, it doesn't feel dystopian because no movie was like, we're going to give people treats to get them to participate in the economy. But it is, it is weird. It's weird that like they're just using the logic of like a clippers game where they want you to make noise when somebody's shooting free throws they're like if he misses you get a free taco it's like if you buy stocks we'll give you we'll give
Starting point is 00:17:00 you a beer and some popcorn um it's very i I mean, as far as the vaccine stuff goes, I'm just like, if that works even once, then fine. Great. Right. But in concept, it is very dystopian.
Starting point is 00:17:16 But I, yeah, I mean, it's the sort of thing that would be laughable in a society that took care of people, I guess. But that ain't us well jamie thank you so much for uh joining today hey happy to happy to be here gonna get my donut
Starting point is 00:17:35 everyone if you uh live near an amc they're starting to show the minions movies again if you want to go see minions in in theaters, you can do that. I did it yesterday. And this was your first Minions experience and you enjoyed? My first Minions. And yes, I'll be back for more. Wow. And do you have a particular Dunkin' Donut that you recommend?
Starting point is 00:18:04 Ooh, I'm absolutely disgusting. So I like the, I think it's the vanilla cream one, which is just a donut full of frosting. It makes my mouth hurt to eat it. It's like so full of sugar. It like literally is a physically painful thing to eat, but I love it. It's so sweet that you'll gag and you might die but it's i'm
Starting point is 00:18:26 gonna go get one right now oh that sounds so good because usually like they're filled with custard which isn't isn't quite sweet enough for me no it's and it's also edible which i take issue with um yeah they sell they also sell one that's just full of chocolate donut or chocolate frosting. They're not shy about trying to kill you. And I appreciate that. That's great. All right. Go do that.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine and don't do nothing about white supremacy. We will be back on Monday with a whole last episode of the show. We will talk to you all then. Bye. Bye. Bye. Can Kay trust her sister? Or is history everything like you always do. What was that? That was live audio of a woman's nightmare.
