Starting point is 00:00:45 I'm Megan Reyes and alongside me as usual are Katie Novotny and Logan Hackett. Ladies, how are we today? I'm good. How are you? I'm doing great. There's a lot to be excited about. Katie? I'm pumped.
Starting point is 00:00:58 I'm pumped. Let's get into it. We do have a packed show and first up are the Olympics are finally underway I can't believe it's already been four years, but we're here. We're back. We're looking for some gold medals What are you all looking forward to the most over the next few weeks? Honestly, just like all the different sports that you don't get to see on a regular basis. I was reading something about like canoe Slalom, I don't know. It looks absolutely insane. And then break dancing.
Starting point is 00:01:27 The break dancing. Yeah. It's like I've never seen anything like that. And I've seen like Red Bull competitions and I feel like it's kind of going to be like that. And I'm really excited. Break dancing is going to be cool first year that it's at the Olympics. I love watching track at the Olympics. That's my favorite. Plus gymnastics. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Winter sports are really cool because it's something favorite. Plus gymnastics, I don't know. Winter sports are really cool because it's something that I could never, ever, ever do. And I could also never, ever be a Summer Olympian because I'm not an athlete, a pro athlete, but the sports are just a little bit more relatable as far as like, yeah, I did gymnastics when I was younger. I definitely didn't do all these crazy half-pipe things in the Winter Olympics, but that's why I like summer. I mean, we can all do a killer cartwheel, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:09 but that's the thing. We're all Olympians at heart. I'm excited about beach volleyball. That's like my favorite thing to watch because it's just, it's usually, it's two people and they're covering so much ground and I'm like, there's two, two USA teams that are really, really good. And they're like they're sandwiched between Brazil. So it's like Brazil's like number one pick and number four. And then USA is in the two and threes. And I'm just like, oh, I'm I'm so excited. I just can't wait. I can't wait.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Well, as a lot of people know, I am an obnoxiously proud first-generation Filipino-American, and I'm very excited. There are 22 Olympians competing for Team Philippines at Paris 2024. And I know that at the opening ceremony, they're wearing a very traditional barong, which is a very traditional Philippine-like shirt, dress shirt. They're going to look sleek and classy, everything that I would expect out of the Philippines. And we know that every Olympics,
Starting point is 00:03:10 people can't wait to see what countries are wearing for the opening ceremonies. This year, not disappoint. So we're gonna dive into some of the opening ceremony outfits, and I wanna know what everyone thinks. Let's start with the USA. Katie, what are the vibes you're getting?
Starting point is 00:03:26 I'm getting like a villain from a rom-com vibe or like a prep school. Like they're all going to bully me for not having a Mercedes Benz. That's how it feels, which like it does make sense. American culture is business. It is prep. It is. We are the rich bullies. So I think I think it's actually on point.
Starting point is 00:03:47 It's giving a little gossip girl. Yes, that's exactly what I was going to say. Or the stereotypical private school kids that you see in British movies or something like that. But no offense, y'all. Y'all got to switch things up. I feel like it's the same thing every single year, but in a different font. Because it's Ralph Lauren every single day.
Starting point is 00:04:04 It's every time! There's other people that exist! Drives me bonkers. Okay, what about Australia? I can't get over the khakis. I feel like this is like, I read that it's supposed to represent the beaches and the sand and the ocean.
Starting point is 00:04:22 And I'm like, this is like the first pass at what a beach and an ocean would represent. It's like sand, khakis, ocean, turquoise. And then they stopped. And I'm so, I'm so sad about it. Okay, Logan, as our Australian, what do you think? As an Australian, I feel like I represent many Australians when I say this, we are so unimpressed every single year.
Starting point is 00:04:45 It's so ugly. I mean, green and gold are kind of hard to work with to begin with, but I feel like we could be doing a little bit more, kind of make it flattering. I feel like none of this is flattering on anyone. It's kind of like, you know, you have a meeting at five, but you gotta, you know, go sailing at six. It's like party on top, or party on bottom,
Starting point is 00:05:07 business on top. I like the guy in the middle who's just standing there. Right? So awkward. Like, I think that like, like just shows you how uncomfortable he is. He just is not into it. The dresses are so ugly too.
Starting point is 00:05:20 The dresses are hilarious. We're gonna have to get a video of the dresses, but the videos of the Australian athletes in the dresses, or at least like, we can probably only really see the skirt because I think they have something over the top, but it's something. It's something. Anyways, moving on, let's go to Poland.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I see this is like, I'm very neutral, colors overwhelm me. So at first glance, this like eases my anxiety a little bit. And then I dive a little bit deeper on the right. I'm just not a sweater, like pullover sweater girl. It's giving winter and I feel like it's gonna be a little hot outside. I hope they don't overheat or anything, but no, I agree. It's very like minimalist and the colors go really well, like flow well together. But it's just like, eh.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Okay, let me say this. As a resident poll, I was blown. Like, my dad always talks about when he was growing up up they like had like blood soup and pig's feet so like coming from a culture that had nothing we really come a long way like they look they look way better than i thought they would like i think they did a good i do think it gives winter and like winter formal a little bit i like the neutrals i'm not the biggest fan of floral prints in general but i I think it's at least flattering and like they look stylish, you know? You gotta look at it a couple of ways and we're not gonna get way too into the weeds with this. I think if this was something in a store
Starting point is 00:06:54 or if this was everyday fashion, I can rock with it. And then also on the stage, like the Olympics is probably not the most memorable. Yes, yes. When you have green and gold skirts like Australia. Yeah, if you want to be memorable, where's the khakis, right? All right, let's go on to Taiwan.
Starting point is 00:07:10 No notes, I love it. I think it's awesome. Oops. Yeah. I think it's awesome. 10 out of 10, no notes. I have, if there's one thing I love about Asian culture is the fashion. It's very, like they can do the baggy and the oversized,
Starting point is 00:07:25 but they can do tailored and clean cut so well. I love. I literally just wrote sick, no notes. No notes. It's just so, it's, you want to keep looking at it. And that's like what the ceremonies are for, right? You're showing off ever all the skill sets in one little outfit.
Starting point is 00:07:45 And I feel like when they all- I think I'm looking at a Vogue cover. Yes. Right, when they all walk in together, I feel like it's gonna be so sleek, like a runway type thing. They could really strut through that opening ceremony. All right, Taiwan, 10 out of 10, gold for you.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Moving on to Ireland. Are they doing karate? I think it gives a little straight jacket to me. I think there's a, I mean, I think it's cool that it's all recycled, which you can. That's a cool fact. Wait, so it's 100% recycled material? According to an article that I read, which, you know, I don't know how easy it is to work with recycled materials I'm thinking not that easy
Starting point is 00:08:29 a lot of ventilation going on you see the little zippers I think that's that's cool. Logan do you have thoughts? It's giving martial arts all the way and I feel like Ireland doesn't have much to do with the martial arts, so I'm a bit confused. I love the concept of recycled materials, go green, go earth. Yeah, that's all I have to say. Yeah, go green, go earth. I like that.
Starting point is 00:08:56 That's a good tagline. That's the 206th or whatever country that's. It's just a little uninspired. Yeah. It's okay. It's okay. It's just a little uninspired. Yeah. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. Okay. Let's go to Haiti.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Oh, see. Okay. First of all, this looks like a high fashion spread. A hundred percent. I think it looks so, it's stunning to use a word from Love Island. It is stunning. Logan, thoughts on this from you. I want to know if the girls are going to wear the heels, like the heel boots. I feel like we might see some odd walks. First, I have a doppy down. I need sneakers.
Starting point is 00:09:33 But like, the whole, I don't even know what to, geometry, the whole geometry of it, and the way that it comes out at the top and then snatches at the waist and then cut. Oh my god, it's so good. I am obsessed with this. But now that I look at it more, I'm so sorry. The men's pants kind of throw me off. Yeah, I was just more paying attention to the women's outfit. I didn't really pay attention to the pants either. And I'm probably gonna keep not paying attention to them.
Starting point is 00:09:59 However, I do like the boots a lot. I agree with the waist. I love a balance like fitted and then flowy or oversized on the bottom. She's rocking the hell out of this outfit. So she really is. And I think there's like there was some pushback from China about their uniforms being like too feminine, like and not as like
Starting point is 00:10:21 gender fluid or gender norm. Like it's very gender norms. And this one, even though it's very feminine, I think it does it in a really elegant way and it still has a little bit of an edge to it. So it doesn't feel like it falls in that category, you know? Well, now that you bring that up, that actually makes me look back on a lot of the other countries
Starting point is 00:10:39 that we looked at and even the U.S. That's probably what they're going for is gender neutral and gender inclusive. I think also there's ways you can do that, that's probably what they're going for, is gender neutral and gender inclusive. I think also there's ways you can do that, that. 100%. Prep school. 100%. There's a range. Let's lean into the range, baby. Speaking of range, speaking of last but not least,
Starting point is 00:10:58 Mongolia did their thing. They went hard. I don't know how you can touch this, you know? Like, I'm so sorry, Mamboya. We were not familiar with your game. Truly. Truly. It's elegant. It feels like you're learning something, which I think is awesome. And I just love the elegance of it. It's just, it's pretty.
Starting point is 00:11:22 It's very beautiful. I can't wait to see them together in a group wearing this. And I really like when cultures incorporate traditional aspects of their country in a more modern way. And that's what this feels like. Mm-hmm. 10 out of 10. Love. All right.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Well, we could get into all the other countries. I wish we could. I wish we could too. However, now we're gonna play another game. And we're gonna play Would You Rather, Olympics edition. We have all seen the athletes in the village have tiny little beds made out of cardboard with roommates, no AC in Paris in the summer.
Starting point is 00:12:00 And then on the other hand, the surfers that are competing in Tahiti have their Olympic village on a cruise ship where they get their own room. So first up on this game, Logan and Katie, would you rather sleep on a cardboard bed but you're in Paris with most of all the other Olympic athletes and around all the festivities or would you rather be in Tahiti on a cruise ship? and around all the festivities, or would you rather be in Tahiti on a cruise ship? If it's my first Olympics in the Olympic Village, 100%, I love the atmosphere and just being able to meet everyone.
Starting point is 00:12:32 But that said, if I had been to the Olympics before, Tahiti, all the way, every single day, that is, it's like a destination tournament or whatever. After you're done, you could just go and hang out. You're on a cruise ship, what are they gonna do, fly you off of it? No, you could just go and hang out like you're on a cruise ship what are they gonna do fly you off of it no you can stay there for the whole time I as someone who has a hard time sleeping and has massive anxiety and claustrophobia neither option sounds good
Starting point is 00:12:57 to me I feel like I'd be feel trapped in the cruise ship and I feel like I would be up all night on the cardboard boxes. But if I had to choose, I'm with Logan because at least I'll be able to escape and there's at least like other people around me and I also wouldn't get seasick so I would I could leave the Zofran at home so that would be good. I think I would definitely pick the villa in the village in Paris around all the other Olympians. I get extreme FOMO. And I've seen, okay, so yes, they're on a cardboard bed. You have a roommate.
Starting point is 00:13:30 It's kind of giving a little bit like freshman year at college. I've also seen a lot of TikToks about the other aspects of the village that are really cool. Like they have really cool convenience stores and they have, it's not just a village where it's dorm style. It's quite literally their own sort of enclosed town I think you might get over the whole bed thing for the sake of being in the middle of the action and
Starting point is 00:13:54 feeling like you're actually part of the Olympics it is for the greater good like go green go earth it is supposed to be the best it's like it's all recycled material you can like recycle everything apparently with all these things. Which that is Mother Earth is we need to keep her in mind, you know, and that's I think that's legit. I would sacrifice my body, but that's the crazy thing. It's like they're sleeping on these things and then everything go participate and be an athlete. That's so hard. It's probably more comfortable than we might realize. Maybe. I hope so. Okay, on to the next one. For background, the Seine River is gross.
Starting point is 00:14:28 And over the last few years, French officials have spent $1.5 million to get it cleaned up in time for the Olympics. Last week, the Paris mayor took a swim to prove it's safe. We'll get to that in a second, but people still have doubts. So would you rather risk swimming in the river and risk, you know, E. coli or some like skin disease, or remove yourself from the competition and lose out on the chance at a medal? I will risk a skin rash because a rash is temporary. A gold medal is forever. I would swim.
Starting point is 00:15:07 I would swim in it. Famous platforms. As someone who like absolutely hates being dirty, I would compete in it, but then kind of hope that I got something so then I could see the country. Mmm. Cute, I like that.
Starting point is 00:15:21 A business woman. Yeah, I looked at it a lot. If I did it, I'm the same way. I'm super germaphobe. I wipe the bottom of my shoes off before they go into my luggage type of thing. So the thought of swimming in this river freaks me out. But for the sake of a gold medal, I would probably just have to be like complete, full wetsuit.
Starting point is 00:15:42 The only skin showing is my face type of thing. then I'm taking five showers afterwards. Okay last one and we're not gonna overthink this one so the very first answer that comes to mind you have to go for it. Katie you're up first. France is famous for its cheese, bread, other delicacies. Would you rather eat escargot as an appetizer before every meal or only be able to have bread once a year? So baguettes, croissants, anything. One, two, three.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Oh my God. One, two, three. Escargot. I love bread. I'm going free so I'm going with the bread one because I don't eat bread anyways. Yeah, that one's hard. I don't eat that much bread, so I don't think it'd be that hard to give up. I never tried escargot when I was in France,
Starting point is 00:16:35 and I think it's a lot better than people may realize, but I don't know which one I'd pick. I might go escargot. I told you all not to overthink it, and then I over thought it, so here we are. I have more things I want to say but I'm going to stop. This Olympics game, we are excited to support women's sports. Of course, that's what GoodFall is all about. But we would also love your help.
Starting point is 00:16:59 DraftKings has partnered with the Women's Sports Foundation to help ensure that women have an equal opportunity to participate in sports. So for every entry into the free Play WSF Olympics pool, our partners at DraftKings will donate $5 to the Women's Sports Foundation to support organizations that keep women playing sports up to $50,000. And in support of the Foundation, we each wanted to take a minute to talk about a female Olympian who has inspired us. So, Katie, why don't you start us off? Who is your choice? I'm going with Jenny Finch because I am a big softball player. I was a big softball player when I was younger and she went to the Olympics in 2004,
Starting point is 00:17:53 which is like prime time when I was like in softball world. And she also went to Greece and I went to Greece in 2004. So I was like, oh my God, we're like the same person. And then she was also, this was like back in the day, I went to a Catholic school and she was like very Catholic. So I was, and then she was, she was like really close with her dad. Her dad was the pitching coach.
Starting point is 00:18:13 And I was like, I wanna be her. She just, and she was through so fast. And she was so, I loved seeing such a like full rounded woman just dominate. I feel like it was one of the first times I saw someone that felt like me and be applauded on a bigger scale. And I thought, I just absolutely loved her.
Starting point is 00:18:36 And her fastball was fricking sick. Like I just, I remember being like, oh my God, she's throwing 75 miles an hour. Like, what a gal, what a gal. Logan, what about you? What Olympic athlete inspired you the most? Mine is Logan Tom. She is an American volleyball player
Starting point is 00:18:53 and I was actually named after her. So she was competing in the 2000 Olympics and she made the team when she was 19 years old. To this day, she's still the youngest to be on that team. So it was kind of cool, because I came out the womb and I just had somebody like look up to, because my dad was like, you the youngest to be on that team. So it was kind of cool, because I came out the womb and I just had somebody like look up to, because my dad was like,
Starting point is 00:19:06 you are going to be an athlete. And I was somebody other than hockey, which was really big here. So yeah, that's her. Oh, wow. That's so cool. You're her namesake. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:17 For me, my Olympic athlete, well, there were quite a few. Christy Yamaguchi was a big one for me. And also Sean Shawn Johnson. I loved watching Shawn compete in gymnastics. When I was younger, I was a gymnast, and then I pivoted full-time into ballet and dance. I thought she was mesmerizing when she competed. She had the best landings, the biggest smile on her face.
Starting point is 00:19:39 I'm 5'1", she's like 4'11", so she gave me, you know, hope that short queens can also do big things so I'm still to this day actually a big Sean Johnson girlie. Coming up Juju Gotti and Roz Golden-Wooday share their favorite moments from last weekend's WNBA All-Star Game. What it dooski my sister Roski how are you doing in a billion a day? Welcome sis how you doing today? I'm so good I'm so happy to see you again. I just saw you in Phoenix for All-Star and I'll be working with you
Starting point is 00:20:30 today. Right? Oh my goodness, it was a blast out there too. When I saw you, I couldn't believe like first off, every time I see you I can't believe I'm seeing you because it's always in a place to be if you know what I mean. And then we had a great combo. I saw you I was like what up Juju? You be conquering dragons. I can't believe he was wearing your headband in 115 degree weather. It was so hot. Don't get me started on that. That's my insecurity versus anything. It's left fashion and now it's my forehead is so gigantic that I just want to put everything over it. And through the grace of God, it sticks even in the heat. Well, yeah, like, and real quick, like you gave me nothing
Starting point is 00:21:15 but positive energy, like I promised that I want to always take the opportunity to shout out people who helped me like I was going through a little bit of a mental warfare. And you snatched me right up out of it and reminded me of my value, reminded me of just who we are and where we are on this earth and why we're here. So always big thanks to Big Sis on the screen. You did. Oh, absolutely. I meant that wholeheartedly. I absolutely remember the conversation and you know, you are that. So, thank you so much. Now what stood out for you from this illustrious All-Star weekend in Phoenix, Arizona? I'm gonna start out with the game.
Starting point is 00:21:52 First of all, the product, the game was excellent. It was a competitive All-Star game, full stop. We got the ratings back. 3.44 million people watched it. So, okay, people showed up. And then I feel like I'm gonna just say Team WNBA got their look back, Juju. They got their look back.
Starting point is 00:22:10 You know what I'm saying? Like, first of all, we are all super excited for Team USA. Like, they just recovered. They were in London. They just beat Germany. They're heading into Paris. Momentum, we're very excited for Team USA. But for Team WNBA, like, you know,
Starting point is 00:22:26 there were a couple of girls who had some snubs along the way and they got to shine. I mean, obviously, Arika Gubuwale, 34 points in the second half. Really exciting style of game. She off use her dribble, set up her shot and rainbow pop it in. And I think fans who might be new will love that.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Nekka went off. Obviously she's one of the biggest snubs in my heart for Team USA. And look, Kaitlyn, the rookies, WNBA rookie record, Tenasis, and Angel came and showed up double double. The rookie class, they're not hype. They belong, they deliver.
Starting point is 00:23:02 How about you? What about you, Tune? Like you said, bruh, Agum, bruh, people don't understand. She hit a buzzer beater to win a national championship for Notre Dame. Kobe was like her big bro. So please always keep respect on Arik Ago Mwale's name
Starting point is 00:23:18 every single time. So I wasn't surprised, but like you said, they got that lit back. And I think For the rest of the earth like for earths like the the thing of earths like the mantle and the crust That was the worst thing that could have happened to every other nation Because now the team USA women got they look in their eyes Now Asia Wilson is back
Starting point is 00:23:43 You already didn't want to see Asja, but now Asja fresh off of loss, dare I say I think the women gonna continue their under, when's the last time they lost? I think Dwight D. Eisenhower was in office. Oh wow. Maybe not even then. So yeah, that's Bill Trouble, but you're right.
Starting point is 00:24:00 That was a great win for Team WNBA, sis. What else was stood out for you? You know, there were some other winners too. Yeah. Quiet as cat. I want to see if you agree with me too. I think Flau'jae and Paige Becker's won WNBA All-Star. Talk about it.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Talk about it. They were huge winners. OK, so our good sis Flau'jae, I don't know who was working harder. She did the boardroom coin base party. She performed Surprise at the Candace Parker party. Then she closed it out at the Fenty party to wrap all saw up.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Don't forget she came up for the Espy's performance. I mean, she was sitting courtside, she got fits off, she was having moments with Allie the Elephant. I know she got to the bag. I know Fahjai exists, I'm so happy to see myself getting to the bag, doing her thing, she is multifaceted. And for Paige, I'm gonna just say Paige one because she's so dang cool and you would've thought
Starting point is 00:25:02 Paige was in the W, the way she was just casually sitting with like Jacket on I was like wait Cool as a fan nothing is trying too hard for page and there's so much respect going both ways the W respects I should respect the W so, know, these college girls coming up this next season, they're gonna blow up even bigger and the game's in good hands. They won though.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Hell yeah. And Flau'jae, she touring the world with a song with Weezy F. Baby, excuse me, pardon me, little, excuse me, pardon me, the greatest rapper alive since the best rapper retired. Come on, salute. Big salute to big Flau'jae. Like, and like you said,
Starting point is 00:25:45 she not only performed at those places, she crushed every single. She slayed outfit, being on red kicks, being on the court side. Yeah, I agree 100% with you, man. Salute for them stanky. Their future so bright that if I was them, I wouldn't mind sitting in college for a while. I'm going to use my whole eligibility out because they're getting paid. Right. I mean, there's a lot to be excited for and heading to the W2. But I mean, especially for Flau'jae, I mean, she's got it factor, you know, she's got an incredible story. She's incredibly talented and she's not afraid of anything.
Starting point is 00:26:23 She shines. Right. And her energy, you can feel her. Big fun. You can feel her energy. You did ask. And I saw breaking news. For the first time in the history of the world, her and Khalia Copper were in the same building at the same time, quelling all the rumors. They are not the same person, guys. I couldn't believe it. They are, in fact, not the same person, guys. I couldn't believe it. They are, in fact, not the same person. But I'm glad they were able to get that flick off. There were a couple of cute picks that came together, and duos and combinations that we didn't know we needed,
Starting point is 00:26:55 but we absolutely did. Right, we did. I got to share with sis Aubrey Plaza. You did. The world didn't know they needed me and Aubrey on the big screen screen and guess what? They got it you did so stay tuned stay tuned. You never know. Yeah, I asked this I'm like, hey man, I'm trying to get into acting never you never know what happens. Stay tuned good follow
Starting point is 00:27:17 What else stood out for you sis? Yeah, and you know you had mentioned impacted these players earlier. And one thing that is more on like the serious side, the impact side, is the WNBA and women's rights and this upcoming election. All energy right now is building up in the country for the November election. And, you know, I actually at WNBA All Star to give you guys kind of a behind the scenes look, And, you know, I actually, at WNBA All-Star, to give you guys kind of a behind the scenes look,
Starting point is 00:27:45 hosted a panel with Playmaker and Social Change Fund United, and it was with Candace Parker, Natasha Cloud, it was with Cogwork Woman, Jasmine Crockett, it was outstanding. And the reason why is because I expect to hear more and more from WNBA players on women's rights issues as we come into the key of the election, because who better to ask? I mean, the conversation was so dynamic, intense, urgent, passionate, because who better than these women who are the fiercest, the
Starting point is 00:28:25 most respected leaders of a league that is very unique and very influential in the WNBA to speak on topics like women's reproductive health access, or the gender gaps or pay disparities. These are literally issues that WNBA players rim with, discuss, have to, like, that is part of their ecosystem right now, every single day, and also for the past year. Who better to talk to than these women? And so it was really dynamic and awesome. And I expect, I hope to hear more from these great women
Starting point is 00:29:06 during this election season and that they are asked for their opinion. Hey, bruh, I wish it was 100 people in here with me so we can give you your claps, sister. Stranger, stranger. And I love, I love me some Tasha Cloud. But Tasha Cloud gonna stand up, she gonna fight for it. She gonna tell you how she feel.
Starting point is 00:29:25 She gonna stand with her people. Salute to Tasha Cloud for always being a big voice for most of us. You did great. For so many. And I think too, like she did a great job of bringing out the WNBA has often been at the forefront of social change for years over many different causes. And then there's so much unique representation in the W. You know, Natasha Cloud raised her hand and say,
Starting point is 00:29:48 yo, I represent for the poppies. You know, Candice Parker will come in and she's a mother. She's actually experienced childbirth in different roles. You know, like there's so much diversity in the W and that's what makes it unique. Right, and we done seen the display as a power, like vote Warnock, two words, vote And we done seen the display of power, like, vote war knock. Two words, vote war knock changed the world when it came to...
Starting point is 00:30:09 I started hearing Atlanta with our Atlanta dream, with LaFleur having those views. And them sisters stood up and said, uh-uh. We're gonna change. And they actually changed the world. So much respect to all the women who stand up. And so you for standing up for us to see. Right. Could you add one more thought in on the Debbie since we on our soapbox right now. And it's not only on women's topics, the
Starting point is 00:30:31 majority of the league is black woman. So you know, you're talking about a league that is not only diverse in race that, but also has a majority group that is black, that is women. They're diverse in expression of femininity, in sexuality, in all sorts of ways. It's in body type. I mean, the W, I'm so glad it's getting the flowers right now because it has a little bit of everything. Also salute to Alicia Gray.
Starting point is 00:31:02 Oh my God, that had my boy, girl. I was in here bawling like a damn baby in that damn arena looking at Alicia Gray because I know how humble, you see how humble she is and just how adorable. She went crazy. Oh my God, seeing her on that stage, it meant so much to me, man, that I was like,
Starting point is 00:31:21 let me calm down, let me go get me a shot or something before I be in here crying. So that was really big for her. 55k each event. Yeah. Big news. Was that one of your biggest things that came out of All Star for you? Or do you have something else too? Absolutely. That was definitely one. The first one was, you
Starting point is 00:31:41 should have called Caitlin. That's one of the biggest ones. Second one. Yes, Alicia Gray, Alicia. Great, bro. Like just people as humble as her don't usually rise to the top as far as like just in in in front of the camera. And so seeing her with that opportunity, Asia supporting her ride, Renee in the crowd going crazy. Oh my god, bro. I'm telling you, I almost called the Holy Spirit in there that night. crazy. Oh my god, bro. I'm telling you, I almost called the Holy Spirit in there that night. What else excited? You got anything else that you loved about All-Star? Bro, I really just love the camaraderie of it because a lot of the season has been highlighted
Starting point is 00:32:22 around like controversy, pitting each other, pitting us against each other. Is it gotta be Caitlyn? Is it gotta be Angel? We can't just celebrate that Caitlyn had a great game and then celebrate that Angel had a great game. No, it's always some of this. And everywhere I went, Caitlyn was relaxed in this crowd that we in, in there kicking, kicking, not even being hounded or cameras in their face. And Angel as well, like, he was able to see these sisters
Starting point is 00:32:43 interact with their actual family, which is the W, and extended family, which is us, you know what I mean? It's like, that was so beautiful for me to see as a supporter, because I know those sisters' mental health sometimes be like, man, I could say this if I wanted to. Or they got to defend themselves. So I love just to see them outside of the cameras and just having a great time and with smiles on their faces. Yeah, you know, that's a really great point.
Starting point is 00:33:11 It has been really combative, you know, storylines to start the W season and to see the love being reciprocated all around. It was beautiful. It felt beautiful in there, man. It felt beautiful in there. You feel me? Yeah. Then it topped off with me seeing you and Big Mo in the building.
Starting point is 00:33:29 Come on, bro. It was so much love, man. Salute to Monique Billings, man. We were like, I just support. I support every sister. I'm an Atlanta Dream supporter, of course. But it's hard for me not to root for D'Erica Hamby. It's hard for me not to root for Ray Burrell. It's hard for me not to root for D'Erica Hamby. It's hard for me not to root for Ray Burrell.
Starting point is 00:33:46 It's hard for me not to root for each of Courtney Williams with a redemption story in Minnesota. It's hard for Phoebe in New York going to Germany yesterday. But it's just so many amazing stories around the W and I can't wait for the world to tap in. Even more. 100%. Even more. I think it's only going up coming out of the Olympic break.
Starting point is 00:34:07 Second half of the W season, it's gonna be like a stampede into the playoffs. Hell yeah. Cause also I seen yesterday, Saitou back. And look, Dallas is a thing without Saitou, but Dallas is something totally different with Saitou, a healthy Tasha Howard, and you see Eurekeka what she out there doing.
Starting point is 00:34:27 Absolutely, absolutely. And I just see them, I mean, hey, dare I say, look out for Dallas. 100%. Hell yeah, but yeah, man, every time I get a talk to you, sis, I promise to God, I feel like I'm back home, I feel like I'm with family, I'm with peace,
Starting point is 00:34:42 and I just enjoy your presence every single time. Thank you so much for kicking it with the kid, man. On here, you did me. It's so good to see you, Juju. You are the best. I don't know how you don't sweat with all your clothes on. Now that's a whole different topic. I think it's just because you are too cool.
Starting point is 00:35:02 That's what it is. So it was so good to see you in person. And this is our first time. This is our first moment together, right? Right. You dig us? Come on now. Starting point is 00:36:57 Welcome back into Good Follow, and thank you to Roz and Juju for sharing their favorite All-Star Weekend moments with us. And speaking of All-Star, it was announced that Bumble came on board as the first ever official dating app partner for the league. And as women's sports grow, more and more brands and industries are getting in on the action. So we're going to have a quick conversation and talk about our favorite collabs and partnerships in women's sports. And thank you, Megan, for asking this question because I've been wanting to talk about this so bad. Jeez, I am obsessed with the drugstore makeup brands
Starting point is 00:37:32 that have gotten on board in women's sports. There are quite a few cosmetic partners, but specifically the drugstore brands like NYX, Milani, and E.L.F. have all shown up to partner with either women's athletes or teams and leagues specifically. And I think it's really important from an accessibility and affordability standpoint for young people to watch their favorite athletes or go to games and see these partners sponsoring the teams. And if they go home and say, hey, mom, I want this Nick's lip gloss, we know it's $3.
Starting point is 00:38:05 And I think it's just such a natural, it makes sense. The audience is right there. I love seeing it happen and I love seeing these brands get on board. So Katie, as someone with a professional background in advertising, I would love your expert opinion on what brand or brands should sponsor a specific women's sport.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Yeah, thanks for that Meg. I've been thinking a lot. I've been running the numbers and I've been seeing a lot of gaps in some of these categories. There's some key brands that need to hop on before it is too late. We have Kodiak Pancake Mix. You need to get down on the volleyball game here. It's obvious the taglines, they write themselves. Pancake is real.
Starting point is 00:38:46 Serve up something good. Power up your day. This is cause for a celebration. Or simply, pancakes are better than waffles. Volleyball rules, pancakes rule, no one wants to waffle. We're right there. You're right there, the opportunity is there. I could see, I project about a 300% increase in sales
Starting point is 00:39:03 if you partner with a women's beach volleyball team. The next one, husky shovels. Again, we're sticking with beach volleyball here. Holes can appear anywhere on the ground or on your defensive court. You gotta stay ready with husky shovels. Couple headlines we could, I'm just like off the top of the dome for quality digs.
Starting point is 00:39:20 You get it? Or attack the dirt. Or works just as hard as you do. Husky shovels. My favorite, my favorite, maybe there's a play into the Bumble stuff. A tool that actually gets the job done. That one's for the ladies out there. It's just a subtle nod to the digs, you know? This market, the shovel market is untapped. I think we need to break ground. I think we need to break ground and I think this could be a really great opportunity for the shovel market to make an impact.
Starting point is 00:39:58 Maybe you can pass out shovels at beach volleyball games. I think that would be a fun giveaway. Everyone just has their own shovels in the stands. I don't know, I'm just riffing. I'm just brainstorming here. There's no bad ideas on brainstorming, you know? Oh, we got one last one. I would love your feedback on this third one.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Simply spiked. It's just, it's right there. What are you guys doing? What are you doing? Beach volleyball needs a drink. I don't know why they're sleeping on this. You sip, they spike. Get it?
Starting point is 00:40:27 I like that one. Goes well with juicy plays. Oh, that's a tie into the brand language right there. Perfect for the pregame. Whoa, whoa. Who likes to pregame people that watch beach volleyball? Who likes to warm up beach volleyball players? It's a hand in hand.
Starting point is 00:40:44 It's an absolute home run, which I am now mixing sports metaphors. But I don't know. They already they already do a juiciest moment in sports for the NFL. So I want them to bring women's sports into it. So that's number one. I also I'm thinking just again, off the top of the dome. Sponsor summer women's tournament winner gets to meet the Olympians, cash prize, beach VIP party for you and your friends, sponsored by Simply Spiked. I think
Starting point is 00:41:11 it's great. I think it's an absolute slam dunk. You know, all I have to say is Don Draper could have never. I thank you for that compliment. He could have never. That's all I have to say. I specifically love the Simply Spiked. Right? And I would love, I can't wait to see this activation in real life.
Starting point is 00:41:36 I am too. If we have any, if there's any marketing people that want to get in touch with my people, my people's people, it will take a while time to get in touch with me, but we will make it happen. I really hope it happens. Logan, do you have any ads? I feel like I want to hear your thoughts. You're our Gen Z on the ground person who knows all the trends. What are we missing? I think these are like hitting the nail on the head or whatever you say, like especially the shovel one, because it's quirky.
Starting point is 00:42:06 People are doing quirky things these days. It's something like you were saying it and I'm like, who would have ever thought of that? Well, you're thinking of it. And I think it would just, it would hit my generation really well. The only thing I kept thinking about with the shovels was like holes, the movie.
Starting point is 00:42:21 Oh, dig it up, oh, dig it. Yeah. Dig it up, oh, oh. That's why I kept making that face cause I was like expecting Shia LaBeouf, which I don't think I want him near women's sports, but I can't picture Shia LaBeouf popping up in your presentation. I mean, we could do some type of whole situation.
Starting point is 00:42:36 There is, I did find a former pro volleyball player, Courtney Guerra, who's a garden lover. And I think we need to partner with her and she needs to have her own garden shovel line with Husky I think and then she can she can kind of bring us all in it'll be perfect. Thank you for putting this together an incredible SWAT analysis, perfect pitch, mad men could never. There's ton of more.
Starting point is 00:43:06 We'll do another deep dive in a couple of weeks or so. Alright, well stay tuned. When we come back from the break, we'll be talking Olympic women's soccer. Welcome back to Good Follow and it's now time for this week's DraftKings picks. On Sunday, the four-time Olympic gold medalist U.S. women's national team played Germany in the group stage of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Germany are ranked fourth in the world with the U.S. right behind them at fifth. And I have a hot take here. I have this match ending in a draw. Don't come for me.
Starting point is 00:43:58 I don't want you all in my mentions. I think we're going to see a dynamic U.S. side, one that we've been wanting to see under Emma Hayes. But Germany cannot be overlooked, so I said what I said. I think it's ending in a draw. For players to watch, I'm going with forward Sofia Smith. At only 23 years old, Sofia has scored 20 goals for the senior national team. The first time Olympians scored on the big stage at the 2023 World Cup, and I think she'll start adding to her
Starting point is 00:44:25 Olympic resume this weekend. These picks are brought to you by DraftKings. Visit sportsbook.draftkings.com or find the DraftKings sportsbook wherever you get your apps. And so let's stay in the world of soccer for a minute. As of recording this, New Zealand and Canada have not yet played. However, it's already getting a little spicy because earlier this week, New Zealand claimed Canada spied on them during a training session with a drone and filed an official complaint with the IOC. And since then, FIFA has opened an investigation
Starting point is 00:44:56 into Canada after they confirmed that a non-credentialed team analyst flew a drone over New Zealand's training. So Logan, as our Canadian, half Canadian, what are your thoughts on this situation? I feel like it's illegal to be wearing this Jersey right now, but I did want to wear it to support the players. I am flabbergasted because how could you be so dumb?
Starting point is 00:45:23 A, but B, why New Zealand out of all teams? Like we have Columbia and I want to say, there's another really good team in our group, France, Columbia and France in our group. And you're spying on New Zealand with a drone during the Olympics when it's like illegal to fly anything above like 10 feet. You are insane and I don't know what the goal was.
Starting point is 00:45:43 I almost don't even want to know what the goal was because it just doesn't make any sense. I'm dying't know what the goal was. I almost don't even want to know what the goal was because it just doesn't make any sense. I'm dying to know what the goal was. I am dying, especially after coming out of Tokyo when it was like, this is like the big one, you know, everyone's like excited to be back. Like, I love that you're basically saying like, just cheat better, like be smarter with your cheating.
Starting point is 00:46:02 You know, if you're gonna try to cover it up our teams. Or at least like try to kind of cover it up. When they detained the guy, apparently he was like, yeah, I did it, we're spying on him. Um, don't really know what to tell you here. His sentence got lowered, so maybe that's why. But just be better. It's just so, I mean, I know there are different types of drones.
Starting point is 00:46:24 My partner flies a drone, so I've learned more about them. It's just so, I mean, I know there are different types of drones. My partner flies a drone, so I've learned more about them. But what is funniest to me is depending on the type of drone, and I know that a lot of teams do use drones for training purposes when it's obviously like official and credentialed, but drones are loud. So like, if you're trying to be like sneaky about it, they're so loud. They're incredibly obvious. They're so loud.
Starting point is 00:46:45 They're incredibly obvious. You're like, oh, there's a drone spying on me. Coming out of this, Canada's head coach is supposed to set out the group stage opener. So things are getting spicy before it's really even started. I'm so scared to see what's going to happen that's like our punishment such a Canadian thing like we're so sorry we did this and we're gonna fly our people home and then sit our coach for one game so we have like one coach on the bench but like the IOC could really mess everything up and honestly it might be deserved like I don't know how strict they are on that
Starting point is 00:47:19 type of stuff but even just thinking of it like firsthand spying is like what are you doing? I hope they don't get kicked out, but I am very scared for this team. And I do feel for the players because Bev Priestman, the head coach, apologized to not only the New Zealand team, but to Team Canada players as well. Yeah, that part stinks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:39 You work your tail off to get there, and then some guy has a drone obsession obsession is like, I got an idea. What a way to start the defense of your gold medal. Yeah. We'll see how this transpires. Did someone bribe him to do it? Like it feels like there's like, or is it just stupidity? I don't get it. I mean, if they really wanted to be smart, they would have gotten the Love Island producers set up those cameras beforehand.
Starting point is 00:48:08 So you can't see anything. You never know where the cameras are. And then you get all that footage back and then no one's the wiser. Well, if you were gonna go about it that way, then you were gonna set up like a confessional. He was gonna get caught and then go in and be like, look at the camera, sit down and say, yeah, I did it.
Starting point is 00:48:23 They got five minutes of footage for all we know that could have been them warming up. What if they didn't start their practice yet and it was literally all for nothing? It probably was. Right, it's like the part of the practice where media are allowed to film before they make you put your cameras away.
Starting point is 00:48:38 That's what they got. I also wanna know, where was he? Was he hiding in a bush outside the stadium and just looking down at his thing? In full camo gear. You see a bush just like slowly creeping closer and closer to the field. These are the fun storylines. I mean it's not that fun as we've discussed but these are sort of like the funny quirks that happen in women's sports quite often that people aren't paying enough attention to. These things go on in men's sports all the time and they become headlines.
Starting point is 00:49:06 Everyone talks about it. It's a whole scandal. This has been happening. We just get to talk about it more now because people are starting to pay attention. But it just makes you laugh. I was thinking about it this morning when I was taking my dog on a walk.
Starting point is 00:49:17 I'm like, we are here. This is the time. Women's sports are front and center and we've got drones flying over soccer training. This is our deflate gate. This is equal opportunity. This is what we're here for. Well, the foundation of this show is that communities get built one good follow at a
Starting point is 00:49:31 time. For this week's good follow, we're spoiled because we heard directly from many WNBA all stars themselves on who their WNBA good follows are. Check it out. Bam, bam, bam, bam. Good follow, we in the building. Salute everybody. NBA Good Follows are. Check it out. Bam, bam, bam, bam. Good follow in the building.
Starting point is 00:49:49 Salute everybody involved. We had the all star practice man. They're getting some shots up right now. We're about to ask these ladies a couple of good questions. Who is the best social media follow in the WNBA? I mean, I think you got to go with the face of the league. Sid Coulson. Sid Coulson. Either league. Sid Coulson. Sid Coulson.
Starting point is 00:50:05 Yeah. Either me or Sid Coulson. Yeah, I think so. Stewie's pretty funny on social media. I think Angel's pretty entertaining. Good Follow. Follow right now. Send us your nominations at Good Follow Show
Starting point is 00:50:17 and tell us why your Good Follow should be featured. Good Follow is brought to you by DraftKings. We'll see you all next week. So So Thanks for watching!
