You're listening to Giraffe King's Network.
Couple of breaking news items here for today's post game that are just coming through
the wire.
It has been formally announced that Leon Olmesi and Sergio Vuzquez will be making their
first starts for Inter Miami tonight. Greg, I saw your video that Chris Cody put on social media.
Not.
I haven't called it.
Yeah.
That was so great.
But what was really stuck out is you getting to enjoy that moment with your son.
So you guys bought tickets.
You upgraded on your tickets, hoping that this day would come since a franchise was announced.
And you got one spectacular moment to validate
every decision you ever made or you going to night.
Yes, I am going tonight.
I'll be in the press box tonight as I usually am, but it was so cool to be able to watch
Messi's debut in the stands as a fan among all of the bedroom.
It was just and after the fact I heard Wittingham ham's goal call which I texted him that for
him at his career right now that's his you believe in miracles let's let's play that again
because it was a great job by witty and we love witty this is courtesy of the inner Miami
audio network Joseph Martinez now trying to play the one two with messy challenges coming
into the side three kick given and this my, is Lee and L. Messy territory.
The last kick of the game will come from the left side
of the pitch, about 25 yards from goal.
And honestly, this is penalty kick range for Lee and L. Messy.
How many times have you seen him score goals
from this sort of position?
Edge of the D, challenge going coming from behind,
and a free kick to come.
Four men in the wall for Bruce Usual,
a draft excluded behind them.
The whistle sounds messy approaches, he goes for.
High five!
Oh, you're not that's the honest debut.
That's the most important advantage
everyone can just see.
With the last kick of the game,
Leonardo Maxi has won it for Inter Miami. It's a really cool moment.
And if you're watching tonight, I don't know if it's available the way that it might
be on Univision or to the A&A on Spanish language, but it's on Apple TV.
If you want to watch it in English and you have other additional options available on
that, for people that are just casually getting
into this?
They don't need a storyline bigger than messy.
They don't even really need to pay attention to boost gets messy is the draw here, but there
is actually interesting subplots to today's match up against Atlanta United that the Martino
a decorated manager did very well with that landing United goes against his former team.
Joseph Martinez on inner Miami, a former on the less United goes against his former team. Joseph Martinez on inner Miami, a former MLS MVP going against his former team.
And they had an ugly breakup.
There is actually another active Argentinian World Cup winner on the pitch that is not
Lionel Messi's plan for Atlanta United, the Ago Amada, who's been brilliant this season.
So there's also additional juicy storylines to go along with just the major headline,
which is Lionel Messi.
Another story that is broken on the wire recently, and I'll hand it to Lucy on this because
I was genuinely confused at the wording.
It's at the NCAA and Jim Harbaugh are working towards a suspension agreement.
Yeah, they're like negotiating a suspension.
So Jim Harbaugh had recruiting violations, and that's actually not why he's getting suspended
it's because he lied about them.
The details of these recruiting violations are like objectively hilarious.
He went out, took some recruits out for breakfast, and got a cheeseburger.
And everyone noticed it because he was getting a cheeseburger at 10 in the morning.
And so then when he went to the NCAA and was like, no, I didn't take them out to breakfast,
people were like, yeah, we know you did, because they saw you with the cheeseburger.
So he lied about that. And then the NCAA punished
them. And now he's suspended for what's supposed to be the first four games of Michigan season.
If it's a cheeseburger, if it's a cheeseburger, isn't it lunch? Well, that's breakfast.
That's why it was so vulnerable. And actually one of the games out of the four is just because
he ordered a cheeseburger during breakfast time. Well, here's the thing. If you put an egg on
the cheeseburger, it's actually brunch.
But there wasn't an egg.
The farmhouse could have dried that.
The farmhouse.
Yeah, although we can't say anything that he says as truth because he's a liar when he
comes to the burger in the morning.
And my thing is, yeah, they may have been Iowa 42 to three in the big 10 championship
game.
We don't know that's not because of cheating and lying.
Yep. That's probably the only reason they did that.
Damn right. What was the violation though, because the violation seems to be about recruiting
and not the burger. It was paying for the recruits. It was like an unauthorized visit. You're
not supposed to do that. And then he lied about doing that, but they caught him because of
the burger. He's getting potentially suspended as they continue to negotiate a punishment.
It's a whole funny world that we're still doing this. We're still pretty ridiculous. We're still policing
here, recruiting you. We're getting a whole new, less punitive way, although a four game
suspension for the head coach does sound punitive, which just means the NCAA has rightfully
taken offense at someone order to cheeseburger at 10 a.m. So if you think I think there
is also like COVID protocol with this, where you weren't supposed to be meeting with
recruits, so I think that's added into it. And although it is a four game
suspension, all four games are at home and they're not against the best teams.
Pop up matchups. Like it doesn't really feel like that big of a deal.
But the burger is this happened at Miami. We can do that with anything.
Actually, I did do that with the Northwestern thing,
and the media actually acted appropriately with that one.
So, but every other time, imagine if it were Miami.
But it does feel though, it does feel like
our threshold for what we're scandalized by,
the idea of a recruiting violation,
there used to be sports illustrated cover stories
about recruiting scandals,
and now you need to have
a give me hazing. Give me some real shit. I do want a different. I do want some stuff
that's like actually scandalous. I do want to hold that briefly granted the punishment
for Pat Fitzgerald was unrectified. But initially we had two game suspension for hazing, four
game suspension for cheeseburger. He didn't get a game suspension.
It was two weeks in the summer.
Yes, it was two weeks away from the program in the middle of the summer.
Less than a slap.
That's a fair.
Yep.
And now he's suing because he had an oral agreement, which is legal in the state of Illinois,
which is even more ridiculous.
Well, that's another thing about the NCAA trying to apply its rules.
And it's why they went the politician route for
their next president.
It's because all these states have different rules, and all of them have different rules
specifically regarding name, image, and likeness.
And the NCAA is working very difficult, very aggressively around the clock.
You could already see by Ray and Paul forcing the NCAA into
discussions and investigations and committee meetings over golf that there's a lot of
back trailing here to get a universal nationwide policy for name image and likeness.
There are other things that we as a country should be worrying about more than NIL.
Like, what time was this breakfast?
Yeah.
It was like 10 a.m.
It was early. I'm okay with It was like 10 a.m.
It was early.
I'm okay with the burger after 1030.
That's it.
Everyone else is ordering breakfast.
What's the earliest you go burger?
What's the earliest you go burger?
I would say 1030.
I think that was about right.
Yeah.
Can't do it before.
If it was a weekday known.
What do you like?
I don't like to do it in 1145.
I would say 1030.
Between 1030 and noon, it has to be a farmhouse burger.
Afternoon, all bets are off.
Right.
Whatever you want. But if they only have the breakfast menu out and then you're like hey i want a burger because
that's my assumption of what i think you're like i'm a time-bought i'm i'm jim harbott
i'd like a burger now is it a diner i have no idea if it's a diner then that's good form
because i can just quickly fire up a burger it's the same girl
what is great time to be in the big ten right now let me tell you great time
Great time being the big 10 right now.
Let me tell you, great time.
