I have in front of me what I believe to be fair criticism of South Beach Sessions.
We've got Ted Danson on tomorrow and the criticism is from Phantom Dukes.
Why the bleep is Dan LeBattard moving from an old journalist to a therapist
without any training or degree. Shit is embarrassing.
I have chosen the weird lane on South Beach Sessions
of instead of getting the guest to cry, the host cries.
It's weird.
It keeps happening to me.
I can't stop.
I can't stop crying.
All of a sudden Sam Morrill's like,
why are you crying right now?
It is super strange. It happens again with Ted Danson.
It's embarrassing every time it happens,
but it keeps happening, I can't control it.
Juju, thank you for being on with us.
Yesterday you were not critical at all.
Everyone applauded you for not being critical,
but I want you to be critical,
because I think you are the eyes and ears of the show,
and I've checked out on much of
the show's social media because our reddit got so poisonous because we didn't have as a show an enemy that I became the enemy and I'm like
Okay, no, thanks. I'm leaving now. This was nice while it lasted
So I want to hear from you on the things that we're doing wrong the things that we're doing
Incorrectly the things that the audience is saying. What do you have for us today? Anything or you're still on your positivity kick?
It's not a kick for the,
you just explained how you say,
hey, it's become so toxic and poison
that it just becomes a struggle at times to see this,
like to see yourself talked about in this manner.
People come to my DMs and they be,
not even DMs no more,
people just send the messages and at me at the most disrespectful things.
And then male mental health, I can admit like, bro,
I be reading some of that stuff and some of that stuff.
It makes me insecure about myself.
It makes it gives me the imposter syndrome of knowing that, dang,
I deserve to be here because I'm seeing people have told me you don't deserve you just uh
if you just this you a me you got your meal ticket and so some of the stuff actually gets
through to me the same way it does everyone else I'm no superhuman you feel me so that's why I'm
just trying to be more positive because I'm listening as well as reacting as I know I
shouldn't listen to all of it but just as a man in this mental health month, I can admit that some of this stuff just be affecting me.
So I try to go a different angle.
I'm not going to ramble. You took offense to the younger generation discounting Dave Grohl's success in his music career.
And I think that's that energy is the exact energy I have when people discount Kalea Copper, Breonna Stewart, Asia Wilson,
just because they just learned about who Caitlin Clark is.
And I definitely understand how that happens,
but I think it's up to us to exhibit patience
and the willingness to encourage the inclusivity
and not the frustration that comes
with the entitlement of knowing.
Like we have to be willing to teach each other and have the patience and it will serve the
newcomers a little bit better if they have also have the willingness to willingness to
listen and learn without the ego that's attached to their reputation.
One of the many reasons no need for apology one of the many reasons that Juju is in the
job that he is in beyond being an artist with a very
keen eye for things that others don't have an eye for is because he handles
our social media overall so much better than I possibly could if I were running
our social media or if somebody else here were running our social media. But I feel for you daily,
Juju, because the young people around here, I noticed this for the first time with Mina
Kimes a million years ago when she was just starting in the business and I didn't have an
eye because I'd been a columnist for such a long time taking negative letters and everybody getting
mad at me all the time that I didn't
have an eye for just how corrosive social media criticism can be even to people who
have giant popular Q ratings like you and Mina because of whatever it is about human
nature that makes us notice the one negative comment instead of the 20 positive comments. But I have felt for you pretty consistently because you're so good at this and to be good
at it the way you are, you have to be obsessed with it.
And your obsession with it makes it so that I feel like you're daily getting hit with
shit that not only you don't deserve, because I know the merit of why it is you're hired
and why it is that you work around here,
but stuff that is truly challenging because you can't,
as a job title, disconnect from it.
You're not even allowed.
I've had to check out on it, and I've been for 30 years
getting criticized, so I'm plenty, plenty used to it,
and I still had to check out on it.
Yeah, for the first time in my life, I've, like, bro,
like, people who know me, this is crazy. for the first time in my life, I've like, bro, like people who know me, this is crazy.
For the first time in my life, bro,
I'm more insecure than I've ever been.
I'm used to knowing for a fact, I'm better than dot, dot, dot.
I'm used to knowing and saying that
and breathing that and talking.
That's where my energy comes off sometimes as it is,
because I'm from the streets.
Like I'm used to making sure that everybody out here know what the hell going on.
And I will do, you know, I mean, things to the contrary.
You feel me? So this is my first time actually hearing criticism come at me.
And I can't lie, it hurts my it hurts my feelings.
It hurts my confidence.
It hurts my just my overall excitement to be alive sometimes because I want to be a
musician.
That's still my dream, my ultimate goal.
And people within this industry, they don't necessarily have the, I'd say the fans of
the show, they don't have the filter that I wish that they had.
You know what I mean?
They just say it.
Even it'll be fans of the show
that I have the DM from the last time you DMed me.
It was a salute.
I love you so much.
And I was turned into, ah, you're, you're so entitled.
You just a free, what are they called?
Rooney rule hire.
They go, they're creative in their distance to me.
Like I commend them, but it just, it hurts so much.
And especially to see some of the people,
it's like former coworkers we have get it. I can tell, burner pages,, it hurts so much. And especially to see some of the people,
it's like former coworkers we have, get it.
I can tell, Burner pages, I can tell all this stuff,
but sorry for rambling, Jessica.
I'm just trying to just be open
during this mental health month and just show that.
We won the championships in two sports just right now,
but more importantly, it's just about being real.
And speaking of being real,
someone sent me a message on IG, Avery Bolano.
A salute to her husband, whatever her name is.
Hey Juju, my husband's birthday is today.
I was hoping you guys could give him a shout out.
He had a double lung transplant in February,
and the show has been a big part
of what has been a long recovery.
It's his 39th birthday birthday and he would love it if
you guys could shout him out. He will obviously be watching. She didn't give his name, but
shouts out to you brother. We mean like to have an impact on these people's lives means so much
more than our opinions of what's happening and what's current events. Thank you sister for
sharing that with us and I will try to do a better job moving
forward of just being involved and keeping the negativity out and just being a better example.
I'm rambling, I'm so sorry. Happy birthday to him. I don't care. Good luck.
Juju, I think the vulnerability that you're showing is something that everyone could really use
and I certainly appreciate it as someone who's dealt
with my own mental health struggles to begin with.
The bigger and bigger your platform becomes
on social media or anywhere else,
you only grow to kind of hear more
of your insecurities thrown at you.
And that is something that's really tough to deal with
and you, I will say, and this is sort of behind the scenes,
but you and I have had a lot of conversations about this
and I've always appreciated your mentality
and your willingness to sort of just bring someone in
and make them feel loved.
And I think that's so much of what we try to do on this show.
That's so much of what this show has done for you,
for me as a listener for so many years.
And it is difficult to be vulnerable,
but putting that out there the way that you are,
I think helps so many people
who are listening to this right now.
Thank you so much, brother.
I love you, Jeremy.
I wanna say that in front of the world.
I love you, Jeremy.
I know as men we get so, we can't be, nah,
I love you, Tony, I love you, Jessica,
I love you, Lucy, I love you, Chris, I love you, Lucy. I love you, Chris. I love you, Dan.
I love you, Stu.
Like you guys are my actual friends.
Like I like my friends have dropped off drastically over the last few years
from gun violence or just from just from health and and concerns of that nature.
So I really appreciate every second I get to spend with you guys.
And I try to exude that.
I know I come off too much.
I buy you shoes
that you don't need or buy you shirts that you don't want
but that's just my love language.
So I really appreciate all you guys
and the listeners of the show, I got your back
and I will improve and be a better man
and less emotional, you dig me?
You guys know the Pope is a minority shareholder
in dominoes?
That one I made up actually. up actually that one has to be
Francesca juju we love you too and everyone that's being mean knock it off
because we all get mean comments and it's not cool well that should do it I
think that fixed it knock it off not cool it's better than you making fun of
Roy for a whole segment knock it off that was funny though that's funny
faceless cruelty people knock it off
